Debunking Obama's Ayers "Fact Sheet"

Will Congress pass Obamacare by the end of the year?

When George Stephanopoulos so rudely queried Sen. Barack Obama about his long-standing connections to unrepentant domestic terrorist William Ayers during a recent Democratic debate, many conservative newshounds cheered. At long last, Americans had been introduced to a name that only a handful of right-leaning news sources had previously explored. Obama challenged the question's relevancy, carefully avoided details, and pivoted to another topic of discussion. The damage was done, though, and his campaign was forced to issue a "fact" sheet to debunk any nasty implications the "distraction" of a question may have raised. Team Obama informed readers that a) Obama himself is far too young to have been a member of the Weather Underground, b) The mainstream media consensus is that Obama's ties to Ayers are irrelevant, c) All charges against Ayers were dropped, and d) Ayers and his wife, Bernadine Dohrn, are actually pretty "mainstream" these days. Three of these four defenses ring hollow.

First, let's stipulate the obvious: Barack Obama was a young boy when Ayers and Dohrn were blowing up federal buildings, running from authorities, and warning Americans to "guard your children." Obama is not a terrorist, and he should not be held responsible for the Weather Underground's criminal acts.

Next, let's examine Obama's claim that his connection to Ayers and Dohrn is "tenuous" and "phony." Is it phony that Obama's political coming-out party in the mid-1990s was hosted by Ayers and Dohrn? What about the panel discussions in which Ayers and Obama both took part—that were organized by Michelle Obama? Tenuous? I suppose the goodbye party for prominent Israel basher and Arafat apologist Rashid Khalidi, attended by Obama, Ayers and Dohrn, is also unworthy of discussion. That Khalidi himself hosted a fundraiser for Obama's first Congressional campaign must be completely irrelevant, too.

Then there's the pesky fact that Obama and Ayers served together on the board of the Woods Fund for three years—and continued to do so even after Ayers was quoted in the New York Times fondly recalling his days as a bomber, and despairing that he hadn't "done more." (This quote, the Obama fact sheet reminds us, comes from an interview that just happened to be published on 9/11—Ayers had made the incendiary remarks earlier. I don't know about you, but that makes me feel a lot better). The funds Obama and Ayers helped control at the Woods Foundation funneled thousands of dollars into both Khalidi's organization and the now-infamous Trinity United Church of Christ. Irrelevant, phony distractions? So what if the Obama campaign's top strategist concedes that the Senator's relationship with the terrorist is "friendly"? I apologize for even devoting this much attention to such tenuous and unimportant information.

Obama's "fact" sheet then brings us the crucial bulletin that all charges against Ayers were dropped, and that he spent no time in jail. Absolutely true. Except a minor detail was omitted: Ayers openly admits he is "guilty as sin" but "free as a bird." Charges were dropped because federal authorities overstepped their legal bounds in pursuing the Weathermen, not because the charges were unfounded. Perhaps this distinction was too nuanced for a man who found it appropriate to compare his racist pastor to his own grandmother, and an unrepentant terrorist to a respected United States Senator. The Obama campaign also curiously chose not to "fact check" Bernadine Dohrn's criminal record, which includes a seven-month stint in jail for refusing to cooperate with a murder investigation.

Finally, and maybe most preposterously, the document pronounces Ayers and Dohrn to be "respectable" members of the "mainstream" community. After all, it has been seven years or so since Ayers said he didn't regret setting bombs. That's ancient history. Today, these folks are pillars of the level-headed, mainstream Chicago community. Enter the audio.

I happened upon this content as I conducted some basic research into Ayers and Dohrn for a special report my boss, Sandy Rios, was planning to run on her daily radio program in Chicago. The former terrorists both gave speeches at a reunion of aging radicals in November of 2007, and the audio is available on the web for anyone with a computer to hear. Considering that The Sandy Rios Show is a relatively small operation without a small army of researchers at our disposal, I initially assumed that the intrepid journalists that populate our mainstream media had beaten us to the punch on this story. They hadn't. The audio linked above clearly demonstrates that the terrorist tandem is neither respectable nor mainstream by any reasonable definition.

Dohrn refers to America as "the beast" and "the monster" while rambling on about the United States' obsession with empire and our white supremacist way of life. She says she believes the US government to be the greatest purveyor of violence in the world. Ayers, not to be outdone, cheers an ongoing "spirit of rebellion…and resistance." He favorably quotes Mao Zedong's premier, Zhou Enlai. He calls contemporary America a place of "great stress, and oppression, and authoritarianism," and bemoans "a kind of rising incipient American form of fascism." (Jonah Goldberg, call your office). Does Barack Obama expect Americans to believe these deranged rantings represent anything close to mainstream commentary?

As more and more facts about Obama's relationship with Ayers and Dohrn emerge, expect the Obamites to intensify their insistence that such matters are "distractions," "old politics," or—as Andrew Sullivan has already labeled this issue—part of the right wing "freakshow." With all due respect, I'm not sure "freakshow" is the most effective pejorative to hurl at those being critical of two unrepentant anti-American terrorists. As the Obama campaign continues in its efforts to kill this story, they'd be well served to avoid issuing any more "fact" sheets riddled with half-truths, lies of omission, and falsifiable claims.

Might I suggest a high-profile speech from Obama to open up a "national dialogue" on the roots of domestic terrorism?

Good job
Keep exposing Obamessiah for the anti-American fraud that he really is!

not debunking but politically relevant
Debunking usually implies showing things to be untrue. That does not really seem to be the approach above.

Obama's supposedly debunked claims were that he had a tenuous connection to Ayres, that Ayers was never convicted of anything, and that he is a respectable member of the mainstream community.

Going backwards, Ayres is a professor at the University of Illinois at Chicago. He has served on advisory boards for the mayor of Chicago. That would seem to suggest that by any reasonable standard he is treated as a respectable member of the mainstream community.

It is apparently true that Ayres has never been convicted of anything.

And anyone familiar with with how boards of this sort work knows that people share board memberships on things, particularly charity boards, with people with whom their relationships are not particularly close. No republican would want to claim kinship with everyone they have served on a board with. That would be ludicrous. Given that both Ayres and Obama were active in improving the lives of people on the South Side of Chicago, the level of meetings is not that strong here.

So Obama's fact sheet seems to be quite accurate. I think what Benson means is perhaps that the facts on the sheet shouldn't be true. Ayres should not be considered part of the mainstream community, he should have been convicted of something, I'm not sure how this plays out with the second. But the claim of debunking is not accurate.

old news
Is any one still supprised over any of this?

He is a politician from Cook County and you think he isn't going to be dirty.

Lon
You might consider that rather than showing Mr. Ayers's "respectability," the connections of the U. of Illinois and the mayor of Chicago to a self-confessed, unrepentant traitor-terrorist show how the radical Left has either taken over, or is shamelessly coddled by, these institutions.

Imagine that Sen. McCain was consorting with a confessed, unrepentant KKK Grand Wizard who proudly recalled his murderous lynchings. Would it relieve your concern if the Grand Wizard had never been convicted due to a technicality?

A Little Parity Here??

By the standards that Guy Benson seeks to judge BaraK Obama, every presidential candidate (and probably every talk radio host) should cease all association with Oliver North.

king liberal
A very weak and embarassingly silly attempt to try and create the illusion of moral equivalency.

For one thing, Hagee never cursed his country, nor did he set off bombs that killed people.

Secondly, Hagee simply endorsed McCain. They don't have a long-term close relationship that involves years of interaction and cooperation.

Get real, King liberal. You only look like an enormous clown by posting such nonsense.

Since you brought up sex and gays.

Why does Obama respect homosexuals but not the Flag?

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

That has to be the most irrelevant and specious post on this board. You very funny!

I tell you what, come up with all the info you have on McCain hanging out with Ollie after his conviction and maybe you have something, although I think Americans might find bombing your own countrymen a tad more distateful than an illegal arms deal.

My clearance would've been revoked
or not issued IF I had acquaintances, worse friends, like Ayers OR was endorsed by a known terrorist organization (Hamas). How can BHO be POTUS given this fact, or will he not be cleared for access to classified information? I guess he could just call Sandy Berger.

And a Hardy Har Har Right back At Ya

"McCain Camp Touts Ollie North Endorsement"
http://blog.washingtonpost.com/the-trail/2008/02/12/mccain_ camp_touts_ollie_north.htm

Good Lord! McCain fawns over an endorsement from the man who made such a mockery of the will of congress, where he's served for lo these many (and I DO mean many) years! It's almost kinda *masochistic*, don't ya think?

The above is, of course, a load of crap. But it's only a one-paragraph load.

It's not nearly as bad a week of the Nation's airways full of this William Ayers crap-load.

FLM
I'm sorry...it is inconvenient that BHO is having to defend himself. Since he is refusing future debates it should go easier for him in the near future.

no wonder.....
a group of white men can pick a piece of land and camp out calling it a religion, subject young girls and women to rape, molestation, and pass the couchie with horny old white men, because you people are so corrupt in your thinking from the inside out.

The sad part about it is there are some good White folks so I am not sure how that happened.

Obamaworld: Enter At Your Own Risk
One man's terrorist is another man's respected citizen. The hopeful nonchalant One has spoken!

Uh, I don't think so, pal. Maybe America-hating terrorists are "mainstream" in Obamaworld, but not out here in the Bitter Belt. Obama seems genuinely puzzled by our quaint and clingy ways. Can he correct our thinking by November 4?

I expect we'll hear another speech in which Obama will courageously tell us "I can no more disown my friend and benefactor (Ayers) than I could disown my white racist granny."

Another matter that needs attention: Obama couldn't get a basic security clearance due to his Ayers association. In other words, a guy who couldn't qualify for an entry level position with many of our government agencies thinks he's qualified to be President.

King Liberal Proves GG-AZ's Point
The point is, if McCain had any real association with Hagee, you'd be all over that and pounding it into our skulls that McCain is a racist.

However, all Hagee did was endorse McCain and that was the end of associating the names of McCain and Hagee together.

Yet, even though they have no relationship and never had one, you jump on it gleefully and use that as a diversion to take away from the racist and terrorist associations your flase messiah has.

Doesn't work both ways because they cannot be compared. It's almost sad to see how far you all go to deny and deflect to protect your prophet.

Face it. Obama does have close relationships with racist and terrorists, both domestically and internationally.

We're not even finished with the Tony Rezko case yet.

oblahmacrapola
the man of hoipe and change is incapable of admitting mistakes but seems to think that sleeping with skunks allows him to wake up smelling like roses.

He fantasy that he didn't know about ayers is pure bunkum. It seems that this was ayers one moment of glory and he alledgedly bragged about his youthful excapades whn he had the courage to stand up against the leading terrorist nation on earth.

That he was incompetant or more likely a coward unable to do the job is meaningless. That someone of priviledge grew to hate the country of his birth and tried to bring about it's downfall shows how pathetic the left is that they have the gall to honor such trash as the ayers. To make heroes of those willing to kill and maim fellow citizens and then brag as if it were something courageous shows how lost the left remains.

I knew about Ayers, so why didn't Obama!
The Weatherman were well-known at the time and we even discussed them in my university Poly Sci classes in 1979-80. I remember when Ayers got off on a technicality. I was still a slightly liberal moderate back then, but I held against my fellow screaming-liberal students that anyone who blows up buildings, no matter the reason, should go to jail for the remainder of their life. Oddly, several of them now agree with me, post-911.

So, if I knew about Ayers, why didn't Obama? I mean, so maybe Ayers offered to host Obama's political coming-out and Obama didn't know who he was, but in this day of cyberspace, why didn't he do some research? I mean, if you want to be president, don't you think you might want to know who wants to advise you? I think Obama knew and either didn't think it mattered or likes the money and support too much to cut off ties. That, and he can't admit a mistake to save his life, or the country. That's not a good trait for a chief executive.

Repentence
Ayers is anything but repentent for his crimes. Neither is Oliver North, but Ollie's crimes didn't kill innocent civilians just going about their ordinary lives and Ayers did.

Unlike some of the posters here, I believe that someone can turn from a criminal past and become a good person. I've seen it multiple times. Repentence is a wonderful thing, but it starts with admitting that you were wrong -- that your previous mindset and actions were incorrect and require correction.

Ayers doesn't seem to have done that at all. So, he doesn't plant bombs anymore or actually order anyone to do so. That doesn't mean he doesn't fund organizations that plant bombs. Just because he's put on a suit and now rubs elbows with people who have a lot of money doesn't mean he's good for society or that he's repented in anyway of his former criminal behavior. He's just learned a new rap.

I'm okay with my president hanging out with someone who did wrong and now admits he did wrong. I'm not so okay with my president hanging out with someone who did wrong, but still insists he did right. A president needs GOOD advisors, not terrorists, and Ayers was and, as far as I can tell, still is, a terrorist. Obama is still blowing it. Not that I would have voted for him anyway, but he finally lost my brother's vote on this one and that's a really hard thing to do.

Ayers, Dohrn and Timothy McVeigh
I am increasingly troubled how quickly we are to rationalize and/or dismiss actions and associations of polititians and candidates because they represent our "party". For those who can so easily dismiss Obama's association with Ayers and Dohn, do you also so easily dismiss what what Timothy McVeigh did? I would appreciate someone explaining what the diffference is.

Obama is on the horns of a dilemma
He also knows he's in trouble, and it's so desperate, he has now agreed to an interview with Mike Wallace on FOX.

Hillary's win means she's in for the loooonnnnng haul, and Obama has neither the seasoning nor experience for the real hardball of politics. He has easy races in IL, has been blessed by the Dems. bulls to be their savior from the Clintons, and has had a devoted, pussycat press.

Thankfully, Hillary carries a Lazarus, and the longer she opposes the sainted Barack the more we'll hear of his numerous shortcomings and looming deficiencies.

Behind Rev. Wright is also the Rev. Weeks, the guy who's called Mayor Daley a slaveowner. Obama just has them stacked up like cordwood.

Guys on TH, if you don't want an Obama of no experience and dubious abilities winning the presidency of the US in Novemner, the RNC and McCain campaign need money and organization. We need to put our money where our blogs are.

To John McCain --
Don't take conservatives for granted -- this business of McCain criticizing the North Carolina Republican leader who took Obama to task is absurd. I will vote for Obama if McCain is so politically correct that he is afraid to attack Obama for fears of being a "Racist." If McCain is so lacking in moral courage, then to hell with him.

Obama’s Vetting Through Association
Most people who have a complaint about the Junior Senator from Illinois, Barack Obama, say that he has not been around long enough to have built a record ... upon which one can judge the underpinnings of the decision-making of the man.

This information should cause one to pause and reflect on the fact some vetting has indeed taken place.

This vetting through association should not be confused with “Guilt Through Association”. It has everything to do with what these people, their background and what they think, and further, what they think about Barack Obama.

This vetting is in the form of the judgments of the people who know him best. They have worked with him, taught him, served on committees with him. They embrace him as their choice for the leader of the “Free World”.

The people we are talking about are the "former" radical SDS/Weather Underground members William Ayers, Bernardine Dohrn (Ayers’ wife), Tony Rezko, and Rev. Jeremiah Wright Jr. of the Trinity United Church of Christ. The first two names are of greater trouble than the latter.

We, at MAXINE, are dumbfound struck at how these people have not evolved one inch in a life and world that has advanced and evolved forty years from when these folks gained their fame.

In the video you found of the SDS reunion back in November 2007 (posted at Hugh Hewitt), Bill Ayers wears a T-Shirt with the words FREE MINDS screened across the front, yet his mind has been LOCKED DOWN in the same mode for over forty years!

In those same forty years, for example, many of us have changed, or modified our opinions due to the temperance of time and reflection ... or just plain temperance. Again, these folks have not - - - and they think that Barack Obama is the perfect person ... their radical Marxist based thinking process choice for the person ... to be the leader of the free world.

It'll probably end up being Hillary
Rush kept her afloat, and Obama will now sink in the primary instead of in the general election.

However, in his defense of the attacks, he said that he didn't talk "regularly" to Ayers. Strange choice of words. He could have said, "never". He could have said "only once or twice". Instead he uses a vague term. The question no one asked was, "HOw long has it been and how many conversations and meetings have you had in the last couple of years.

I'm sure by this time they are busy covering their tracks.

BILL PARDONED TWO WEATHERMEN!
Hillary is now claiming she knew nothing about this. She probably says the same thing when asked about the Puerto Rican bomber/terrorists and Mark Rich, who Clinton pardoned.

I heard that she was in the room when he signed the papers. Come on Hill, tell everyone how you had absolutely no input on his decisions -- or the price he charged.

Barak Hussein Obama
is turning out to be the absolute dream candidate for the communists. I especially liked ecj-MAXINE's comments. This is what we have come to in such a short time. The republican party has moved so far left it is left of the old democrat party of only decades ago. The democratic party has truly become the communist party of the U.S. Hillary has been quoted repeatedly saying things verbatim from the manifesto written so long ago by a madman.

We may be seeing the final throes of the democrats as they run into the brick wall on the ideological left and have no where else to go. Is this the beginning of the end for the republic? Naw. Too many sensible people still around. We will get a new party born of the ashes of the democrats with a return to true liberal ideals of freedom joined by the libertarians and fiscal conservatives. Or maybe an armed revolution.

The fact that the republican party is following the democrats down the road to the cliff can only lead to misery for a lot of people before it is over.

If the lemmings want to vote to go over the cliff then, over the cliff we shall go.

Churchill was right
Democracy really is the absolute worst form of government imaginable, except for all the others.

Ayers/Obama
Back to the issue at hand. A person is judged by the company he keeps. Plain and simple. The fact that Obama thinks he is above that merely shows his total arrogance. That alone should tell people that he is not suited to run our country.

Up next on the hit parade
Hatem El-Hady, former fundraiser for Hamas, now fund-raiser for BHO. Boortz mentioned him yesterday, there is info about this scum-bag on the Boortz website.

Anybody else see a pattern here? Seems to me all of Obamessiah's friends hate the USA.

Ayers/Obama/Wright Flocked Together Long
Seems that the apparent dislike for America displayed by Obama's wife, and perhaps the great need for change seen by Obama himself, has been planted and cultivated by the anti-America friends and spiritual advisers the Obamas have accumulated along the way to their accumulating millions of dollars, eh?

As they say, "Birds of a feather flock together." Sort of late for him now to try to fly away from his former close friends, eh? Well, guess he isn't flying away, he is telling us they are all just run-of-the-mill normal American birds -- what BS!

Scary
I wasn't 8 years old when these two were terrorizing America. The pastor is a loudmouth pompous idiot, who up until Obama became a candidate, only influenced a congregation. He's now enjoying his 15 minutes of fame. Dohrn and Ayers are criminals/terrorists with a lot more influence. A man who associates with these two cannot become President.

I sure hope the people checking out Obama are checking out his wife, just as thouroughly. I also hope they are seriously checking the people and their organizations who are contributing large amounts of money to his campaign.

I really fear for our country that this no experience, sweet talker is bamboozling so many people. I would like to see a black man be president someday. Just not this one.

(Sigh) I may have to vote for McCain after all.

Flaming Liberal Multiculturalist
Your logic is still specious. Ayers and Dohrn aren't analogous to Ollie North in any reasonable way. A more apt comparison would be an actual domestic terrorist (of any stripe). But that wouldn't fit your ideology...

They're Back!
This whole scenario is shaping up to be a sequel to a bad B movie about vampires. Just when we thought the Vietnam War was over a battered Vietnam veteran finds himself facing his old enemies risen from the dead and more lethal than ever--Jane Fonda, William Ayers, Bernadine Dohrn leading a ragtag, aging mob of '60s Weathermen and their hangers-on. But in this sequel they are led by a handsome, charismatic changeling who is adept at disguising his true beliefs, identity, and objectives but once elected his fangs will appear and all the world will see--a totalitarian bent on sucking the blood and marrow out of our republic.

Flaming Liberal Multiculturalist
I don't recall that Oliver North ever murdered anyone.

Noteworthy point;
Remember who is offering up this potential candidate to the American population. This is the new Democractic Party.

Remember all the Senators and Congressmen who have endorsed this far left loon on the American public.

Remember the kind of Anti-America haters BHO hangs with.

Remember all the Colleges that Ayers and his croonies uses to indoctrinate our youth.

Remember why Obama has such a huge youth following.

These far left croonies are the bane of America, the cancer within. To them, up is down, left is right, good is evil and evil is good.

Ayers *is* the mainstream

Details what Ayers instructs teachers to teach. What I've realized since Wright emerged is that over the last several decades while most of us, including me thinks many Democrats, have been just living our lives, the Marxist hate-America radicalism has been rooting itself deeply into our institutions of higher learning, our churches, the media.

Wright tells Moyers that his words have been twisted, but everything he said is the truth. Ayers holds a tenured position, and like Wright he is esteemed by his profession, while he funnels venom down into our school system. Terrifyingly, they are not exceptions, but are representative.

Obama is part-and-parcel with the Hyde Park liberal intelligentsia. Be assured that were he not one of their own, they would not be so chummy with him. But he is cleverly packaged, with a well tested formula for deception (ref Deval Patrick) - including his evasions, minimizations, distractions, and outright lies to prevent people from seeing the whole truth. With plenty of help from the unbiased media.

This general election may be the most important one in our lifetime. With Hyde Park/San Fran Liberals in control of all three branches, there is no end to the damage that can be done.

The Wedge is in Place
Congratulations, you've found your wedge issue, your swift-boat lines for this fall: Obama, the most liberal liberal ever, knows the "unrepentant" domestic-terrorist handshake, won't wear the pledge pin and was brainwashed by an "infamous" preacher who hates America.

Associations
From the time we were old enough to have little friends in the neighboorhood, good parents have cautioned their children not to hang out with those who were bullies, disrespectful of others, or had a reputation for antisocial behavior.

Obviously, there was a very good reason for this sage advice. However, it would appear that the real FACTS in this case fully substantiate that Senator Obama never learned to heed this ancient adage...and I'm somewhat surprised that he hasn't blamed his white grandmother yet for failing to do so.

Of course, the other contender for the Democrat nomination is equally guilty of the same lapses in propriety with regard to her associations; so now, their voters (and the superdelagates) must eventually decide which "birds of a feather" are the most deplorable.

At his stage, I would choose Obama's, as they were befriended to acquire power and "gravitas" (street cred in the black community)...but with Hillary, it was always about the money!

At least as far back as circa 425 B.C., Euripides opined, “Every man is like the company he is wont to keep.” This was followed by a quote from Panchatantra (c 5th c.): By associating with good and evil persons a man acquires the virtues and vices which they possess, even as the wind blowing over different places takes along good and bad odours.” Or, as stated more succinctly in a Latin proverb, “He that lies down with dogs shall rise up with fleas.” Likewise, an Arabic proverb begins, “A wise man associating with the vicious becomes an idiot…” Finally, in Don Quixote (1605-1615), Cervantes states, without equivocation, “Tell me thy company, and I’ll tell you what thou art!”

It's going to be interesting to see how this all plays out.

Lol, Oliver North compared to terrorist?
Now THAT just shows what the political left is all about right there.

For those who are unaware, Colonol Oliver North is a bonafide war hero. He fought courageously in the Vietnam War. While faux war hero Kohn Kerry was busy video taping his "acts of courage" (read: shooting an unarmed boy in the back while he ran away) then shooting himself in the leg so he can give himself Purple Hearts and abandon the members of his unit, Col. North GAVE BACK two Purple Hearts so that he wouldn't be forced to leave his brothers in arms. Col. North was one of the most decorated veterans to come out of the Vietnam War.

The thing that stupid lefties (but I repeat myself) like to point to is the Iran/Contra scandal. US citizens were being held hostage by Hezbollah (You know, that group that Jimmy Carter thinks is a pillar of peace and freedom?), and North and others did what former President Carter couldn't do: Get those hostages freed. In the process, he also did something else Democrats have never been able to do: fight Communists.

Democrats can't even identify the technicality that led to North and others being investigated, prosecuted, convicted, then pardoned. But they know, somewhere in this war hero's history, there's "something there". They just aren't sure what that "something" is.

no votes for oil! :)
Sen. Barack Obama continued accepting donations from oil company executives and employees last month even as he aired ads in which he stated he took no oil company money, his campaign finance reports show.

Obama has taken at least $263,000 from oil company executives, family members and employees since entering the presidential race last year, including $46,000 last month. At least $140,000 has come in chunks of between $1,000 and $2,300, the maximum permitted under federal law.

Texas oil executive Robert L. Cavnar of Milagro Exploration and his wife, Gracie, have helped the Illinois Democrat raise at least another $50,000 by helping host a fundraiser earlier in the campaign.

Perry White, Ann Coulter correctly defined "Swiftboating" as the exposure of the truth about a liberal. http://www.poorgrandchildren.com

Guy Benson
Anyone else find Benson's prose cloyingly smarmy and irritating? I've been reading his "commentary" for a while. I think it's clear that Benson has never engaged in more than superficial research into any policy subject; he has never allowed himself to analyze or entertain evidence that would change his mind about anything whatsoever; and he is at heart an incredibly insecure young man who puts on an obnoxious public mask in order to effect some sort of rigid order onto his life and opinions.

C'mon, Guy. Go do something with your life. Your privileged upbringing demands that you do more than just write unoriginal dreck on this website and superficially argue with "liberals". Go learn about humanity and discover that people are more than just labels.

"Your logic is still specious. Ayers and Dohrn aren't analogous to Ollie North in any reasonable way."

Really? Well lemme see here...

Ollie North took a big stinky dump all over the Boland amendment. He didn't believe in it. Bill Ayers broke the law fighting against the Vietnam war. He didn't believe in it. Hmmm,..any similarities?

Bill Ayers put American lives at risk through terrorist acts, setting off bombs at miltary recruiting centers (though I must point out, in all the vitriol I've read against him lately, nobody has said exactly who died as a result of bombs that he planted.) Ollie North funded South American terrorists and death squads fighting the Sandinista government in Nicaragua. I wonder who died as a result of that? (Oh, of course, how silly of me! They weren't *Americans*, that makes it all right.)

Ollie North ratted out his fellow conspirators to congressional investigators under partial immunity, and at his own felony trial the prosecution made too much use of that immunized testimony. Thanks to Ollie's buddies in the ACLU (that's AMERICAN CIVIL LIBERTIES UNION, folks) his felony convictions were overturned. Ayers was arrested, but apparently the FBI botched up so much of the investigation that no charges were admissible. Gee, see any similarities there??

"I don't recall that Oliver North ever murdered anyone."

See above. Ollie funded death squads. And I wonder if any if what he sold to the Iranians is turning up in Iraq these days...

" US citizens were being held hostage by Hezbollah (... North and others did what former President Carter couldn't do: Get those hostages freed. ....he also did something else Democrats have never been able to do: fight Communists."

What a nice way of saying that Ollie North paid RANSOM to TERRORISTS. Beowulfe, don't you know what happens when you pay ransom to terrorists?? Haven't you watched Bill O'Reilly wagging his big fat finger about this?? IT ONLY ENCOURAGES THEM! IT EMBOLDENS (I love that word) THEM!!

And then Ollie took the cash he got from the Iranians in exchange from the illegal sale of advanced weaponry, and funded Central American Rightwing terrorist groups with it, again specifically in defiance of an act of congress.

Beowulfe:
"Democrats can't even identify the technicality that led to North and others being investigated, prosecuted, convicted, then pardoned."

See above, and previous post.

But they know, somewhere in this war hero's history, there's "something there". They just aren't sure what that "something" is.

Why All This Ollie North Crap

It's just the best way I can think of to illustrate what a humongous load of crap all this Bill Ayers and Obama stuff is.

If my brain worked in sound bites and guilt-by-association smears like the hard-right loonies who are peeing in their pants over Ayres, I'd be shouting headlines like:

"McCAIN SUPPORTS PAYOFFS FOR KIDNAPPERS!"

(Ollie did it, and McCain lives on the same planet with him (and sought his endorsement). It's obvious!!) Or maybe:

"McCAIN FAVORS IGNORING CONGRESSIONAL LAW"

(Same 'proof' as above.)

And when I was trying to sound like I had a brain in my head instead of a very dirty ink blotter I'd blather on about how this 'association' between McCain and North (y'know, they spent alot of time in the SAME BUILDINGS in Washington DC?) calls into question the candidate's "judgement" and his "character" and most of us support OBEYING laws and McCain's association with a known LAWBREAKER means he's 'out of the mainstream' and on and on and on .......

A proposition for Beowulfe:

Tell you what: I'll give Ollie a free pass for paying ransom if you'll write me a nice posting praising President Carter for his meetings with Hamas leaders. They're doing the same thing, after all (though Carter is delivering no guns)....

Debunking Obama's Ayers "Fact Sheet"
Many American voters are beginning to wonder whether Obama's relationship with Ayers, Dorhn, Jeremiah Wright, as well as others, is a pattern in which Obama seems quite comfortable with people who really don’t like the United States of America. Important questions to ask about a man who wants to become POTUS.

Is Everyone an "Acquaintance" to Obama?
Is there anyone in Obama's life that isn't a mere "acquaintance"? Does he have a 'best friend' or some long-time poker buddies that have known him for say, at least 10 years or more? Every time we turn around Obama doesn't know someone he is "acquainted" with. It's ridiculous!

Deconstructing Guilt-By-Association
Guilt-by-association tactics are the only one's of any newsworthiness that Republics have to offer an inquiring public. McCain's policies and character have been so thoroughly discredited that, as the McCain campaign has openly admited, the must now attack Obama's character.

The problem is that the only attacks that seem to them and to an uneducated public to merit publication are Benson's kind of guilt by association, which, when you think for more than thirty seconds about them, are obviously bankrupt. Consider only one feature of them. Never does Benson or anyother conservative writer actually alledge that Obama has said or done something to advocate terrorism. Benson even seems to exhonerate Obama in his second paragraph. He point blanks says, "Obama is not a terrorist.

Of course, this distinction doesn't stop Benson in his tracks. Like Palin, he implies that Ayers and Obama were almost bosom buddies, in which case, although we have no proof that Obama has ever said or done anything of a terrorist nature, readers must conclude that Obama in his heart of hearts or in his most private statements is in fact a terrorist sympathizer.

This is hucksterism, or flim flam, and Benson is earnest and thoughtful enough that he ought to know what he is perpetrating. But he doesn't. He's like the gambler who hasn't learned the Gambler's Fallacy: that each toss of the coin is just as likey to come up heads as tail, regardless how many times in a row it's come up tails or heads. There's a logic problem here that's augmented by ideological zeal. We need a revival of logic 101 to help dispel the GBAer's of America.

Ayers-Obama
Thousands of Chicagoans, including Mayor Richard Daley, know and have worked with Ayers. Are all of these people guilty of the beliefs and actions of 40 years ago? Just posing the question underlines its absurdity.

woods fund board vs alaskan independence
has anyone read the mission statement of these two organizations??? Is it domestic terrorism to grant money for the betterment of society or to separate yourself from the lower 48 and to proclaim that you are "alaskan" not "american".
I'm sorry, but I am confused about who is truly palling around with the domestic terrorist...

Grasping At Straws
It just seems to me that the McCain/Palin train is being slowed significantly by their lack of real position... instead they continue to bash and criticize Obama. Get a grip, folks... Guy, this isn't high school.

What surprises me most is that most of these people blindly follow a candidate who is completely out of touch with the American people. I don't make a lot of money but I would bet all of it that most of the mid-western red state voters make way less than $250k and wouldn't see any real tax breaks not to mention that pseudo-fabulous health care plan... WTF?

Every time I hear a McCain advertisement I have to think to myself, he's speaking to his buddies... He is speaking to that top 1%, not me because if he were speaking to me it would be blatantly obvious that he has no clue about the middle class working man.

And if we are really going to look at terrorist relations, oil deals, and political contributions then I think the conservative republicans out there need to look into their own party first before they start preaching!

Pot, meet kettle...

Stupid American Hateing Hippies
I guess you left wingers think it's ok to hate America and hate the men and woman who defend this country and it's ok to bomb them. I guess you think it's ok you bomb governemnt building as long as later in life your "for the kids and ending poverty". I love my country. I have no problem being the wealthiest county...learn from us. If you don't like this wonderful country...move! These extremist left wingers are the problem with the world today...they wanna take from the hard workers and give to the non workers. They want to give to other countries before our country is taken care of. We shouldn't think of any United Nations feed the children B.S. untill all the children in the U.S. are fed. Country First! I don't want any man as my president who has friends who dislike this wonderful country which allows people to go for their dreams offers more right and liberties than any other country.

Who will debunk the debunkers?
Now that 65+ million of Americans voted for a foreigner, Muslim, Radical Christian, Socialist, Communist, terrorist, racist, corrupt, Obama; what will Mr. Benson do? Poor thing.

Guilt by association would be ridiculous if it wasn't so contemptible.

By the way
Ayers never killed anyone. His bombs had no victims. AFAIK, the Weathermen only succeeded in killing themselves (one bomb set off prematurely and killed 3 of them).
