The Opportunistic Rise of Barack Obama

Do you feel the leaked information from a global warming alarmist organization is meaningful?

By now it's a familiar tale: On July 27, 2004, Barack Obama strode to the podium at the Democratic National Convention and captivated the nation with a soaring and memorable keynote address entitled "The Audacity of Hope." The speech marked America's first encounter with a rising political star. By the time Obama took the stage in Boston, he was already a shoo-in to become the next United States Senator from Illinois; he enjoyed a massive lead in the polls back home, where the state Republican Party was in total disarray and his carpet-bagging opponent seemed to specialize in alienating voters. Since that summer night more than three years ago, Obama has rocketed into the political stratosphere and now faces the possibility—if not the probability—of becoming his party's standard-bearer in the 2008 election.

Several questions still linger. How did Barack Obama rise from relative obscurity to his current level of prominence? How many Americans have heard of Alice Palmer, Blair Hull, or Jack Ryan? These names may hold no significance to the legions who now chant "yes we can," but they are names that Barack Obama should remember well. The mainstream press, which affords Obama nearly unanimous glowing coverage, has repeatedly failed to report a reality that doesn't quite fit the Obama-as-Messiah narrative. Namely, that this self-stylized agent of hope and change is a political opportunist extraordinaire. Barack Obama's dizzying ascendancy to political celebrity has been marked by less-than-inspirational bare-knuckle politics, an unremarkable legislative career, and a slew of lurid scandals that conveniently sunk formidable opponents.

Obama's first big break came in 1995 when Democratic Congressman Mel Reynolds resigned from office amid allegations of a sexual relationship with an underage girl. As state officials convened a special election, a venerable Chicago politician and civil rights leader named Alice Palmer chose to vacate her State Senate seat to pursue the open Congressional slot. After she was defeated handily, Palmer returned to run for re-election, only to discover that her hand picked successor was unwilling to relinquish his spot on the ballot. Though a series of legal challenges, Barack Obama strong-armed Palmer—and several other Democratic challengers—off the ballot, clearing a path to victory by destroying all potential competition.

During his unexceptional tenure in Springfield, Obama managed to rack up 129 "present" votes, including numerous noncommittal tallies on controversial issues such as abortion and gun rights. He also developed a curious, albeit rare, pattern of registering incorrect votes—including an accidental "no" vote on a hotly contested child welfare bill. When confronted with his mistaken vote, Obama asserted that he was "unaware" that he had voted the way he had, and asked that the record reflect that he had "intended" to vote the other way. Similar cases of supposed vote-casting confusion afflicted Obama on five additional occasions.

As the 2004 general election approached, Obama began to eye greener pastures. He decided to run for US Senate, positioning himself as an antiwar candidate. His longshot effort attracted throngs of college students, yet Obama gained little traction against the party's frontrunner, millionaire Blair Hull. But a bombshell scandal resurrected Obama's prospects. In amazingly short order, Hull experienced what the Chicago Tribune described as "the most inglorious campaign implosion in Illinois political history." Late in the primary race, unsealed divorce papers revealed allegations that Hull had verbally and physically abused his ex-wife. The Hull campaign tanked, and Team Obama celebrated. The nomination was theirs.

Illinois political observers then turned their attention to what promised to be a fiercely competitive general election race between Obama and GOP frontrunner Jack Ryan, a well-funded, charismatic businessman. Once again, however, scandal lurked in sealed divorce papers. Over the objections of both Ryan and his ex-wife—actress Jeri Ryan—the damning documents were made public, and the resulting headlines were salacious: Ryan had allegedly pressured his wife to visit sex clubs. Like Reynolds and Hull before him, Ryan dropped out of public life in disgrace, with Obama happily playing the role of beneficiary.

With Jack Ryan out of the picture, a desperate Republican Party trotted out a polarizing non-Illinoisan to face Obama in the fall. Alan Keyes' disastrous Senate campaign is perhaps best remembered for Keyes' spate of vicious, counterproductive attacks launched against Obama, including the assertion that Jesus Christ himself would have voted against Obama. The rout was on.

DNC organizers, anticipating Obama's assured victory and recognizing his potential widespread appeal, wisely offered him a coveted primetime speaking slot during the summer convention. Although the Beantown gathering was designed to be a political infomercial for the ill-fated Kerry/Edwards ticket, Obama stole the show with a speech that inspired millions and, more-importantly, transformed him into an instant media darling. Obama had seized his moment and smashed a rhetorical homerun. Less than half a Senate term later, he announced his Presidential bid.

Now only two figures impede Obama's path to the presidency. Unless Hillary Clinton can revitalize her sputtering campaign, or John McCain can defy the political odds and prevail in a tough electoral climate for Republicans, Barack Obama will become our next Commander-In-Chief. Unlike most seasoned politicians, who earn presidential nominations through many years of legislative, executive, or military accomplishments, Obama has exploited his rock-star status to skip to the front of the line. With many of his supporters apparently distracted by his powerful persona and vague, uplifting message, few people seem to notice, or care, that Obama's qualifications to be president are more than a bit thin. Americans would be well-served to shake themselves from the "change" trance long enough to examine Senator Obama's relatively meager record.

I appreciate your thoughts about the differences between the Springfield legislature and Washington, and how these must be obvious to Clinton the writer. It is dissapointing if Mr. Benson did indeed stoop to deception by implying something he knew was not true.
Other than this, though, I enjoyed the article for its insight and history on Mr. Obama's rise to stardom. It really is amazing, don't you think?

Poetic Justice
Would it not be justice to see Obama brought down by a sex scandal.
He has been far too lucky. Amazing how those sealed files(kinky sex) just happen to open every time Obama has an opponent. Reynolds, Hull and Ryan.

A bigger war
Obama is sometimes compared to Kennedy. Kennedy also had grand ideas but idealists in our country are seen as weak and exploitable overseas. Consequenty, they are frequently tested like a fox toying with it's prey. Obama has no military experience and his supporters seem to think that he can order things into existence. That's a naive belief of those who have never served in the military. The unfortunate consequence is that since they have no experience with alternatives they go to the extreme. Kennedy new better and even he went into Cuba and Viet Nam. I suspect we will be in a wider war if Obama is elected.

Debate the Specifics
Regardless of how "opportunistic" his rise to national prominence and becoming our next president, the Clintonistas, Repugnicans, and McCainiacs never seem to tire of claiming Obama is an "empty suit" spouting platitudes.

Not true. Trust me. He has definite plans in mind how he will change America to lead it into the 21st Century. You may disagree but he WILL bring change.

Barack policies on the Military that will be pushed when he is president:

Make the investments we need so that the finest military in the world is best-prepared to meet 21st-century threats.

Ensure that soldiers and Marines have sufficient training time before they are sent into battle.

Increase the size of ground forces, adding 65,000 soldiers to the Army and 27,000 Marines.

Give our troops new equipment, armor, training, and skills like language training. Strengthen our civilian capacity, so that our civilian agencies have the critical skills and equipment they need to integrate their efforts with our military.

Restore the readiness of the National Guard and Reserves. Permit them adequate time to train and rest between deployments.

Provide the National Guard with the equipment they need for foreign and domestic emergencies. Give the Guard a seat at the table by making the Chief of the National Guard a member of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

Now, what do republicans and McCainiacs disagree with in the above?

lilly - reality check
Why am I reminded of the movie "The Candidate", with Robert Redford, after being elected saying "What do I do now?"

Obama will have to show some substance and the race isn't over. Do you really think that the Clinton machine wants to roll over and play dead? Do you really think that they'll go for an even split of Michigan and Florida delegates?

Obama--gay?
Well, it all makes sense now.

Savage said on his radio show last week that Obami got a lot of his early campaign $$ from the L.A. Gay bigwigs, and that Hillary is supported by the Lesbian crowd.

I wonder if Obami had to EARN that $$ from his Hollywood Sugar Daddys.

Perhaps the Michelle he is married to is really a "Michael." Yikes!

Skin vs. Gray Matter
It's a sad testament of American citizenry when 90+ percent of blacks base their vote on skin color vs. logic. You may despise Hillary (I do), but she is much more qualified to be Prez than the Empty Suit.

I will cast my vote in the March 4 Primary for the Hildebeast just as a means to cancel out 1 vote from the Pro-Hussein Obama, "anybody but whitey" Koolaid drinkers.

Stop the Reverend Jim Jones Koolaid Krowd (sic).
Stop Barak Hussein Obama (BHO).
If you really think BHO is the best of the 3 candidates, you're already past the point of no return...and not worth saving.

That's it....drink up....embrace the cool, sweet, purple toxin....

Regardless if Obama/Clinton get
nominated, assuming McCain wins the Rep. candidacy, the campaign will be a real contest between two versions of the US:

Obama/Clinton have the Sweden view of America, a non-industrialized neutral high-tax country run on water power and 19th C. socialistic cradle-to-gave programs that are bankrupting the real Sweden

or

McCain's a pre-Vietnam, anti-tax, strong foreign policy view of America as economic power and world leader.

I don't think no matter how the MSM spin it, the general citizenry of America are going to vote an anti-war, pro-tax, pro-gov't nanny-state Dem. with no exec. exp. and give him/her command of the most powerful nation that has ever existed and its military to be adandoned while it's in the field.

Three Words Describe Obama Cult
Imhotep...Imhotep...Imhotep. LOL

Ryan
Congratulations, you said the magic words "in time of war". That's maybe not the whole point, but it's a big part of the point. McCain, an aging warrior who has been dining out on his POW experience for forty years now, made a joke about war when he sang "Bomb bomb bomb, bomb bomb Iran". Escalating our Iraq war is not a joking matter. The Democratic Party understands that war is a hideous tragedy that should be avoided whenever possible. The Republican Party, filled with war profiteers and ne'er-do-wells who dream of glory, love war. They hunger for it.

Bush/McCain will keep in war and take us into more war. Either Clinton or Obama will seek to end the war so that our resources as a nation can be turned to the needs of this nation.

Oh cornpone harry
Cornpone? Corn likker more likely, and you've been in it again. Somebody tried this with Kerry, you know, saying that Kerry had had gay sex while he was in Vietnam, and the charge got laughed off the boards. I remember somebody posting, "What did Kerry do, go out in a rice paddy with Charlie? Hahahahahahaha".

Nice math, Black Knight
"6. Voting 134/4000, or 0.0335, or 335 hundreths of a percent of the time present or confused.

7. One percent = 1.0%

8. 1/10 of a percent = 0.1%

9. 3 hundreths of a percent = 0.03%

10. 335 hundreths of a percent = 0.0335%"

As King Arthur said to the real Black Knight: "You're a loony."

335 hundredths of a percent equals 3.35%. I'll make it easy for you. If you had 335 hundredths of a dollar (i.e., 335 cents), would you have 3 pennies plus a fraction of another one? Seriously, your math skills are as suspect as your analysis skills - equating the highlighting of a lucky path to a Senate seat with blaming Obama for the political follies of his opponents.

I'll break it down for you: Obama is an excellent and inspiring public speaker with little public service experience. The article attempts to point out that even his public service experience came about because he ran into an incredible slate of luck along his meteoric path. In other words, he's in the hunt for the presidency because he's an excellent and inspiring public speaker - hardly qualifying him to run the largest organization in the world during a time of war. Get a clue.

Soros Is Only a Part of the Equation...
Obama is also endorsed by the radical-left MoveOn.org. All this, plus what's been noted about his uber-liberal voting record and positions, tells me all I need to know. I can also say that if I lived in Connecticut in 2006, I would've voted against Ned Lamont immediately because of his own MoveOn.org connections; alas, I am not a Connecticut resident.

Just thought
I'd share some observations on B.O.

I'm voting for him AGAIN!

Hussein Obama's gay sex scandal

---------------------------------
I followed that link and read the story

These are serious allegations of immoral gay sex and coke snorting, which Hussein should be forced to answer immediately !!!

If he is innocent, why is he notavoiding questions about it???

And where are the fawning mainstream media groupies?

They are obviously ignoring this scandal. Why??

Is it because they want to see the first Gay Muslim President elected???

Black Knight
If I may, you forgot something. Obama attended a secular public elementary school in Indonesia. Indonesia is a Muslim country so some of the other children were Muslim. Obama attended this school from, as I recall, ages six to nine. As a result of that extensive Muslim education in a Madrassa, Obama grew up to be a fervent Muslim. One wonders how he managed to get into an American college and law school after having been brought up in a Madrassa where the language of instruction is Arabic and the curriculum is the Koran, but, never mind that little detail.

He is now a secret Muslim terrorist plant just waiting to infiltrate our government. That's why his father gave him the middle name of Hussein: to remind everybody of the ex-President of Iraq. However, as a cover, this Muslim pretends to be Methodist and has joined a Black Panther church. Once he is in the White House, Obama will waterboard white people. Meanwhile, as Hillary's buddy Anthony Cuomo has explained to us, Obama is shuckin' & jivin' his way to the White House. Sometimes he even dances a JIG to the tune of SHINE on Harvest Moon, which rhymes with COON.

I hope this covers all bases.

Go Obama, for whom I have already voted, and I am both elderly and white.

Hussein Osama must be stopped: heres how
Heres how to stop this radical extremist:

1. Vote in the Democratic primary for Hillary if you live in Ohio, Pennysylvania, or Texas.

That will suffice to defeat Hussein. And it will also defeat Hillary! So it's a double bonus.

Here's why it defeats Hillary also:

If Hillary gets the nomination, the blacks, who are hopelessly paranoid, will think it was another "stolen election" and rumors abouit trickery will spread like wildfire through the balck community, and Al Sharpton will pim.p that bigtime. And ther balc viters will will be mad as hell at "crooked" Hillary and stay home.

without 85-90% % of the black vote no Democrat has won since John Kennedy in 1960.

Thus, Hillary will lose in a huge landslide and that will return the congress back to the republicans.

There you have it: recipe for a huge victory in 2008

Get out and vote for Hillary if you live in either Pa, Ohio, or Texas!!

McCain is already our nominee, like it or not.

So no need to vote in republican primaries

Jack Ryan
My, but Benson is a master of omitting bits of the story that diminish his case. Jack Ryan did more than take his wife to sex clubs---his whole schtick is that he wanted his wife to have sex with him in public at those clubs, in front of other people, because that's what turned him on, doing it in front of people. And his wife wouldn't. He would take her to such a club and she would start to cry and want to leave. Then he would turn around and do it again. And again. He even tricked her into going. The public was disgusted. Ryan was soon political history when this story came out.

The decision to bring in Alan Keyes, Carpetbagger and Clown, split the Illinois GOP. Keyes as usual made an a** of himself and lost the election 27% Keyes, 70% Obama. Proof that God exists.

To Spidey
Your post is a first---even with all the racist crap about Obama, I haven't seen before the suggestion that black people vote for Obama because they believe he will forgive their debts and pay their bills.

BTW, TIME rated Obama, Clinton, and McCain as executives running their campaigns (as a business endeavor, not a feel-good exercise). Obama won without breaking a sweat. Does that tell you anything?

Pandm
How would it be possible to teach Constitutional Law at the University of Chicago Law School without knowing how the government works?? Your statement doesn't even make sense.

To newparty
I don't have that information. Mikva said in the NYT article that he often voted "Present" for procedural reasons. Somewhere else I read that Obama's "Present" votes were made (as "Present" votes typically are in the Illinois legislature) as a party strategic move. Sources mentioning this always specify that Springfield is somewhat unique in this and definitely is different from DC.

What, newparty, are you surprised that Hillary would do something dishonest? Or that a townhall journalist would distort the truth for partisan purposes?

Reply To Guy Benson
Let's see, Obama is being blamed for the following:

1. Being opportunistic.

2. Being less than inspirational, bare knuckle politician; yet Senator Clinton says he's not tough enough.

3. Being unwilling to relinquish his spot on the ballot in Illinois.

4. Clearing a path to victory.

5. Voting present 129 times and vote confusion 5 times, out of 4000 votes cast.

6. Voting 134/4000, or 0.0335, or 335 hundreths of a percent of the time present or confused.

7. One percent = 1.0%

8. 1/10 of a percent = 0.1%

9. 3 hundreths of a percent = 0.03%

10. 335 hundreths of a percent = 0.0335%

11. So for 0.0335%, Obama is being blamed for some huge voting violation.

12. Eying greener pastures; as if upward mobility is a mortal sin.

13. Being blamed because Blair Hull abused his wife.

14. Being blamed for Jack Ryan taking his wife to sex clubs.

15. Being blamed for the Republican Party being desparate and bringing in Alan Keyes.

16. Being blamed for Keyes' disastrous campaign.

17. Being blamed for giving an inspiring speech at the Convention; and smashing a homerun.

18. Being blamed for skipping to the head of the line; never mind that the line is 400 years old.

19. Being blamed for the Bay of Pigs.*
20. Being blamed for the sinking of the Titanic.*
21. Being blamed for the Great Depression.*
22. Being blamed for World War II.*
23. Being blamed for Hurricane Katrina.*
24. Being blamed for Ford producing the Edsel.*
25. Being blamed for the decline and fall of Western Civilization.*

Note: *=Joke's mine.

ask yourself this...
... if Obama were a white guy who had been in the Senate but 2 years and had never really done anything of note prior to that, is there ANY chance that he would be taken seriously in terms of gravitas to be POTUS?! Presidente Jorge has been underwhelming, perhaps destined to be seen as mostly a dud, but at least he could point to two terms as governor of a large state where he was popular.

Hussein is long on high-minded oratory, but so was Jimma' Carter, who benefited from following another unpopular guy in the W.H. [Wow, that experiment sure went well!] Hussein allows educated whites who support him to feel PC good about themselves, and when the electorate is "pithed" off, it might indeed overlook his lightweight resume and #1 liberal voting record to be charmed by his the piper's tune rhetoric.

These are
really lame and pathetic arguments against Obama. I hope they're the best you can all come up with, I suspect they are.

Eat your hearts out.

"My president." "My party." "Our Watch." Both sides do it. They will go into Liberal/Conservative websites, establish a bond with the posters, and then sound just like the opponents. Full of Bull and a Republican, you're transparent. ROFL

Full of Bull and a Republican...
is not a republican. I know a lot of republicans who cannot stand Bush. But they don't echo the left's talking points. Full of Bull and a Republican's screed sounds like something from MoveOn.Org. Full of Hope
Since when are requirements and qualifications necessarily the same thing?

If I apply to a job that says:
Requirements: 1-5 years experience in Financial restructuring/Bankruptcy. Delaware Bar admission. Portable practice.

and I meet these requirements, have I necessarily met their qualifications? How could they dare reject me?

If I told you that there are NO legal requirements for SCOTUS justices, would you or I be qualified?

there is a huge difference.

some
republicans as noted above seem to think hope is the be all and end all of everything. I hope I could grow taller than my 4 ft. 10 1/2" inches (don't laugh, took me all of 3 yrs. to get that 1/2") but it's highly doubtful.
Good Grief, just because Bush turned out to be a closet liberal you are willing to put all your hope in an closet snake. I'm with the Florida golfers.
He's got a record, in no record and yes he's Goldfingers stooge. I want us OUT of the U.N. which is nothing but a gaggle of gas bags who vote against everything we want and do while taking every cent and perk they can from Uncle Sam.
People swooning and crying at his meetings, one would think he's one of the Beatles. This is the results of 40 years of dumbing down our educational system so that now we have the "well educated" ..ahem..who can't spell worth a bean, cannot locate or identify geographic locations outside their McDonalds local; and haven't a clue how our government works or our honest
and unrevised history; looking for a politician to be their savior. Looking for politicians to solve the problems made by same politicians and
not taking personal responsibility as Americans.
Looking for an American Idol rather than a statesman patriot. God help us.

Go B'ho!! (again)
Yep, it's incredible that so many Americans would support such a man after 9/11... "ex" muslim, black seperatist church, will not acknowledge the National Anthem, middle name hussein. Need I say more? What of his "white" mother? Left out of the picture! Even Tiger Woods is proud of ALL of his heritages and he says so, never heard anything like that from barack hussein obama! Is there something that he's ashamed of there? What of his muslim roots? another small detail left out? Oh! but he should be president because he makes me "feel" good and I like him! Hate to say it but I'd rather not vote with such choises.... Remember a half truth is just as bad and effective as a lie. And then when we criticize him, we are called haters! OK I will admit I DO NOT like a brilliant but dangerous man.... Like I said before I don't think he's as empty as most people think, but he can't let on to his real agenda because it's detrimental to our national security so he's happy to appear to the thinking man as an empty suit! Be careful what you wish for!!

Obama's long resume
The following are Barack Obama's qualifications to be our next president:

Full of Hope and a Republican
My republican president has gotten us in a lot of debt...where was his fiscal responsibility? Why are we in Iraq? For the oil and a base presence...these neo-cons have ruined our country with their ideals...have you been doing your research...our name is tarnished because of my republican president...he wants us to believe that we are not safe and should live in fear...I refuse to live in fear because we messed up on our watch. I have been listening to the debates and I have read Barack's positions...what do we have to offer America? Nothing but more war and if you think the taxes aren't going to be raised then you are banking on "HOPE" get with it! Read my lips I will not raise taxes...okay and what happened more taxes...if you believe my fellow republican representatives you are not in touch with reality and your head is in the clouds. You know the mess we are in...and Barack will be able in two terms to get us out of it...not another republican or hillary. Our debt, our infrastructure, our schools, our communities...where have you been that you have not noticed? Yes I am republican but I tell you this I am not proud of the way we have driven this country apart and tarnished our name globally...we are borrowing from China every day...you get us out of this mess!

To full of hope
I wish when people quoted the bible they would include the context... not just the portion that fits their argument. Of course we're supposed to judge. Why do you think we have laws? Why do you think we have courts? The idea that we're not supposed to judge is ridiculous.

Next question: What mess are we in that Barack is going to get us out of? How is he going to do it? What mess are we in that we need to raise taxes? How has our good name been tarnished, and what is Barack going to do to get our good name back?

Barack's campaign is long on hope and change and short on ideas and specifics. Most Republicans I know are with it enough to see this... What's your problem?

Jim C

Just talked to a Chicao resident
who was shaking his head in disbelief while saying for years no one ever heard of Obama while he was in the Illinois senate.

Now, he said, all Obamae has to offer is a vague promise of change offered in eloquent terms and people are fainting at his gatherings. Unbelievable this Chicago resident said.

Twice while I was golfing down here in Florida two former Illinois residents said they wouldn't vote for someone with the middle name of Hussein who spent his formative years in a madrassa in a muslim country.

It's too much work
America will one day collapse under the weight of its own stupidity and political correctness. Enter Barack Obama, who will likely be our next president (gulp!) for those very reasons.

The media has given him a free pass because he is slick-talking "Barack star" who happens to be half African-American. Lame John McCain is given a free pass by the media because he is a "war hero" (yeah, I guess getting captured qualifies as a war hero these days). The voters, of course, are too lazy or stupid to see beyond the superficial. Obama's supporters are too caught up in the event and don't really want to know what he stands for or what his qualifications are. That would take too much work.

Meanwhile, Mitt Romney, given the reverse-star treatment by the media because he is a Mormon, will be sitting at home (unless McCain grows some brains and tabs him as his runningmate). Romney just happens to be smart, successful and a proven leader.

Yet, we're forced to vote for absolute garbage in the general election -- i.e., either Hillary, Obama or McCain. This, after having George W. Bush -- the definition of garbage -- in the White House for eight long years. So much for the cream rising to the top.

Obama's appeal
Is to mostly young people that see a lousy future. What they don't understand is that's it's liberal infrstructure in education that's killing them not a president. They are racking up 10's of thousands of dollars in college costs and there's no jobs for the courses most are taking, unless they just get teachers' jobs and teach the same crap. How many black people are majoring in African Studies and such for which there are no jobs. Also they are herded into group think so if they do get a private sector job they don't have the problem solving skills to succeed. They are turning to Obama not to fix the job crisis but to forgive their loans.Loan forgiveness should be attached to getting private sector, tax paying jobs, not national service or government busy work jobs. That's the other thing people should really worry about electing a Dem candidate, they plan on creating 10 million "green jobs" out of thin air (well tax payer funded). We don't need that many people sitting around putting together model windmills and changing flourescent bulbs.

WHAT WAS BUSH'S QUALIFICATIONS
Qualifications for the Office of President

Age and Citizenship requirements - US Constitution, Article II, Section 1

No person except a natural born citizen, or a citizen of the United States, at the time of the adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the office of President; neither shall any person be eligible to that office who shall not have attained to the age of thirty-five years, and been fourteen years a resident within the United States.

Term limit amendment - US Constitution, Amendment XXII, Section 1 – ratified February 27, 1951

No person shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice, and no person who has held the office of President, or acted as President, for more than two years of a term to which some other person was elected President shall be elected to the office of the President more than once.

As read above...Barack is qualified he has inspired many and including me a republican and the current elitest republicans who want to judge are not adhering to there own biblical principles...we shall not judge. Barack is qualified and the only one who is able to bring our good name back in the world. How are we going to get of the mess we are in if we don't raise taxes...be realistic and stop being so self-serving.

Obama's loves Che Guevera
Apparently on MyFox Houston Texas news they showed an Obama Campaign headquarters with Che Guevera posters on the wall along with OBAMA 08 signs on top!
Obama may not say much, but actions speak louder than words.
No wonder so many labor unions support this guy...birds of a feather.

Hope makes me smile
I prefer inexperience to sleaze, corruption, and divisiveness. I suppose you've heard about New York's Dem primary. Shameful. Sen Obama got zero votes in 81 districts. I hope MA, CA, MI, and FL will follow NY's lead and recheck their vote counts too.

Hillary Lies About NAFTA Support!

Hillary falsely claims she never supported NAFTA
As Obama points out to rust-belt voters that Hillary supported NAFTA, she’s crying that it’s just not true. Why would she bother lying in the internet age?

DavidSirota: Hillary Clinton has made statements unequivocally trumpeting NAFTA as the greatest thing since sliced bread. The Buffalo News reports that back in 1998, Clinton attended the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, and thanked praised corporations for mounting “a very effective business effort in the U.S. on behalf of NAFTA.” Yes, you read that right: She traveled to Davos to thank corporate interests for their campaign ramming NAFTA through Congress.

Hmm
His political opponents seem to have in common that sealed personal documents suddenly became unsealed and made public.
He has a power machine behind him named Soros, who made him and owns him. Look up HIS agenda if you want to know Barack's.

Many of his enraptured followers are too young to know better. Others don't really want to (feeling good is good enough).
But there are others would probably be taken aback if they knew what they were actually supporting.

Just for starters...
Do his followers agree that the UN should be the arbiter of how our foreign aid is spent?
Do they agree that we should cede our military to the UN Peacekeeping force, making it the only recognized military?
Would they like our military to take their orders from the UN?
Agree that a nation cannot act in itw own self interest without UN permission?
Just for starters.

Obama's thin resume
Well-written piece but still does not convince that his thin experience/accomplishment is the ticket to defeating him. What he does stand for is far more scary than his paltry resume.

Hyperbole
With McCain, we could nuke Iran, bringing Russia and China into an international nuclear encounter, probably by 2010.

Now, is that hyperbole, or minsless rantings, since the scenario I propose about McCain is every bit as likely as the one about Obama.

for Pancho
Pancho writes: "Is this a position or just the mindless rantings of someone clueless about geopolitics?"

It's hyperbole.

As conservatives, we don't really think America will be destroyed midway through an Obama Adminstration.

But as conservatives, we definitely believe America's strategic position in the world will be much worse off.

Unlike Obama, we know that personal likability counts for nearly nothing in world geopolitics.

It was under the CLINTON administration, before Bush, that Chirac in France started to do everything in his power to undercut what he called the American "hyperpower." Clinton's charm didn't matter to him one iota. What he saw was America's military might and America's economic might--as an insult to France.

And if I had a chance to debate Obama, I would bring up such facts which he and his supporters have evidently forgotten.

Character counts
It's not "stupid" for the American people to prefer a candidate who appears to be idealistic, optimistic, and relatively free of scandal.

Obama appears to be happily married. He's never been accused of the personal failings that plagued the Clintons or Rudy Giuliani. Unlike Romney, Obama almost never flip-flops. He's a liberal and proud of it, and he takes his liberal positions out of philosophical conviction, not because polls and focus groups told him too.

Thus whether you agree with him or not, at least with Obama you know what you're getting.

And that's appealing.

Reagan was the same way on the conservative side. Even his staunchest opponents had to admit that Reagan passionately believed what he was saying and was willing to fight for it.

Those who say there isn't a dime's worth of difference between McCain and Obama are wrong. There are sharp differences: on abortion, on foreign policy, on government spending. The only people who think there are no differences are certain single-issue voters who think that immigration, or whatever, is the only issue in the world that matters at all.

Ignorance is dangerous
Too many American voters, most perhaps, are frankly too uninformed, or just plan stupid, to vote. They have little to no understanding of the issues that affect ALL of us. The Democrats are perhaps the most uninformed and vote on 'feelings' rather than any kind of rational analysis of problems and solutions. At minimum anyone that depends on government largess to live day to day, i.e receives welfare, public housing, food stamps, etc. should be barred from voting because they will always vote to take money from other peoples pockets to put in their own. This isn't democracy, it's legislative theft. When Dems appeal to poor voters by promising them government goodies what they are really promising is to take money from one group of Americans and give it to another. This appeals to Dems and those too damn ignorant to realize what Dem message is.

OT
>With Obama, we could be invaded, blown up and destroyed, probably by 2010.<

Is this a position or just the mindless rantings of someone clueless about geopolitics?

I report, you decide.

Sen. Teflon Obama
You wrote your silly screed on bad, naughty, horrible Mr. Obama.

Now, are you happier?

Good!

I don't like John McCain
but Barrack's approach to changing America is simply repackageing European socialism for america. He has no clue about what the effects of his tax and spend policies will do on a country with a weak dollar and massive foreign investment. Vernon Johns, the famed civil rights leader once said, "If you see a good fight, get into it." Barrack wants a fight over america's future and we need to give it to him.

Five stars, Guy
An excellent article. It's been said on TH before, but I will say it again. If Barack Obama were white, he would have been laughed off the stage 2 years ago. He is a first term Senator with virtually no experience, and while he is an excellent orator, that's about all he is in terms of leading the nation. He is a political darling because of his race. We can all thank mainstream media for his unceasing prominence, and we can thank the (obvious) stupidity and naivite of America voters for his ascent.

I really can't stand McCain and have said I wouldn't vote for him no matter what, but... The more I watch this campaign and the more I hear of this totally empty suit, the more I think the lesser of two evils might indeed be a saving strategy.

With McCain we will get bad government and administration, possibly for up to 8 years. Yikes. With Obama, we could be invaded, blown up and destroyed, probably by 2010.

If the LSM...
...were serious about Obama, they would be hounding him for details about his "change" slogans,i.e. exactly what changes does he plan to make,in detail please?

But we know the LSM is simply backing the Dem candidate,no matter what he says, and they don't want to embarras him.

An empty suit vs. ...
...an empty dress.Decisions,decisions.

No Choice
To have the choice of voting for B. Hussein Obama or John McCane is no choice at all. There is less than 2 cents difference between McFlapjack and Obama. Neither the GOP nor the democrats will get my vote. This country needs a new political party, the Republicans and the Democrats are so corrupted they are both worthless as are their candidates.

Obama proved he is clueless
on economics when he said yesterday we will grow the economy from the grassroots up or some such and then proposed raising taxes on capital gains.

he makes glowing statements to people who are equally clueless, counting on their inability to challenge him and MSM's adoration to give him cover.

If he is a constitutional lawyer that reveres that document, he wouldn't be the most liberal senator in the room.

Obama will surrender this country and leave us naked to our enemies.

Great oratory is nice, but specifics are better and this guy cannot reveal what he really wants to do to America or he'd be run out of town on a rail.

This is a national security election and this lightweight is dangerous.

Glib, but empty
Obama is a person that can talk for an hour on the subject of fried eggs, but couldn't crack one much less fry one.
He has no Knowledge of how the government works..
He is empty ---- totally

People reject war
and its costs, if they did it in the Vietnam War, they'll repeat history for Iraq/Afghanistan/Pakistan.

The opportunistic Rise of Barack Obama
Mr. Benson's comments are gentle reminders of Obama's shortcomings. The big media haven't, and will not, expose him.

The Republican Party, on a kick to lure black voters to GOP candidates since 1994 (Ralph Reed crafted the policy), has so far handled black candidates with kid gloves, even giving them free passes here in Georgia as part of the courtship.

If Obama is the democratic nominee, McCain will
have to go after Obama and tear away his
manufactured image if he plans to beat Obama. Will he?

Parallel to 1860
In 1860, 2 leading candidates for major party nomination included a veteran, well-qualified New York pol who thought it was his turn to lead the nation and a man of the "grassroots" from Illinois with some legislative experience and scant Washington experience. The latter got where he did through the power of his oratory and ideas. He wasn't very specific about what he would do in his presidency. He eventually wound up on the 5-dollar bill and the penny.

Obama, the new rock star of the Dem's
No wonder Hillary wants to debate Obama before Tuesday. There was a time when the media used to credit Hillary with the rock star status. Reporters said where ever Hillary went, they treated her like a rock star. Not so anymore. Camelot is gone, Bill mumbles at the first sound of hissing and booing, Hillary claims she has good reason to be so intense, and upset all the time, and Chelsea is attacked for helping Hillary's campaign. On the other side of the tracks life is so different with the Obama campaign. Obama smiles and even laughs during his speeches. His supporters all seem so happy. That's rock star status. Hillary's supporters are the same way Hillary is, intense and upset all the time. Hillary lost her rock star status along the way, when she had to be someone other then the real Hillary Clinton we know.

This is why we have an electoral college

A dangerously ignorant tyro like Barack Obama winning the general election is why our Founding Fathers instituted the Electoral College.

Should the audiences of Oprah, MTV and Nickelodeon do the unthinkable and actually prevail in November, all the pressure that can be be mustered should be brought to bear on the members of the Electoral College to do their duty to save this country from the ruinous disaster of an Obama presidency.

But I doubt they will.

And even if the Electoral College did select someone else, I have no confidence that they would make a better choice. Hillary would be nearly as disastrous as Obama and they are not likely to choose McCain.

As unsavory as McCain is, he would be less of a disaster than either of the Democratic choices.

It is very telling that both political parties have given us the worst picks of their litters. Both political parties are dysfunctional train wrecks.

We need to chuck both of them and create new parties.

P.S. to lilly:

The only way your argument will hold any sway is if you tell us how Obama's "present" record compares with his peer legislators. Was Obama's use of "present" higher than average overall? What kind of legislation did Obama use "present" on? Was his the only "present" vote or did others also vote "present" on the same legislation? A comparitive analysis is essential and you left it out. But unlike you I am not going to resort to calling you a liar but will give you a chance to answer first.

There ought to be a reality check
on Barack Hussein Obama.

But the problem is, the media loves reality show which is of course not reality or actuality. It is fiction mixed with hopes. In other words, empty hopes!!

Expect the media infatuation and the more or less staged performances to continue until August 2008. By then, I hope the Republicans have built up enough ammunition to be unleashed on his candidacy. By next month Hillary's presidency ambition would be history.

Re: 129 Present Votes
"During his unexceptional tenure in Springfield, Barack Obama managed to rack up 129 'Present' votes." Benson wishes to give the impression to readers that by voting "Present" rather than "Yes" or "No" Obama was either unprepared, uninvolved, or unconcerned. Benson appears to have done some research for this article, so presumably he knows what he chose not to share with readers: that in the Illinois legislature, a present vote is often procedural and is made for a specific legislative purpose. I quote an article in today's New York Times by Abner Mikva, whose career in Illinois and federal legislation and the courts goes back roughly sixty years (he was my Senator in Chicago fifty years ago so he's been around long enough to know what he's talking about). From his article:

"...In the Illinois Senate there can be strategic reasons for voting present [such as] signaling to the sponsor that an amended version may be passed [for example that greater fiscal responsibility, or wording, or the scope of the law, must be addressed]".

Mikva also points out that as a scholar and teacher of Constititional law, Obama would be aware of his voting responsibilities as a state legislator.

Hillary Clinton has attacked Obama for "ducking his responsibility" by voting present and now Benson has implied the same thing. Both of these parties doubtless know that a present vote in Springfield does not have the same meaning as a present vote in Washington. For either of them to withhold a full explanation constitutes a distortion that can only be called deliberate and malicious lying.

opportunism is the name of the game..
and we certainly can't blame him for his opposition's misogyny.

those shall be the kindest words spoken by me about the man.
