Poll
Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

I am a co-host of a Boston talk radio show "Pundit Review Radio." My co-author, Paul, is a thirty year Boston journalist.

We recently authored a Townhall.com article on an Evangelical theologian who endorsed Mr. Romney and how historically unprecedented that endorsement was. Hundreds of angry people responded to that article- many of whom called us "bigots."

As long as Mitt Romney keeps America focused on his religion, he may win the upcoming January primaries.

But as soon as Americans are able to penetrate the religion smokescreen and see his governor's record, voters may think twice.

The media – liberal and conservative – have been a willing co-conspirator in keeping Mitt's governing record a secret. Am I suggesting the Romney campaign deliberately focused America on his being a Mormon to hide his record as governor? You decide.

For your edification, here's the real Mitt Romney.

1. Mitt is a liberal. How do you think he got elected to the most left wing state in America? He was as pro-abortion, pro-gay agenda, pro-gun control as Ted Kennedy when elected governor. He was pro-choice when he was elected and pro-abortion when he left the governor's office. When he was elected governor, the Baked Bean State did not have gay marriage. When he left, it did. When he was elected, Massachusetts had a Republican governor for nearly two decades. When he left, it didn't. What it had was a Hillary disciple who is now transforming the Cradle of Liberty into an amalgam of the Soviet Union, Sodom and Las Vegas. Imagine what Mitt could do as president.

2. He's that liberal?! He gave Massachusetts a socialist government health care plan entitled "Commonwealth Care" that some call Hillarycare as he was walking out the door. And, apparently he didn't know it included abortion as a health benefit. Because by then, he had discovered abortion was "wrong."

And speaking of health, Mitt presided over the opening of the most corrupt and most expensive public works project in U.S. history – The Big Dig tunnel-bridge system. This project killed nearly a dozen people in the 48 months since it opened. When an immigrant woman was crushed to death by a cement-ceiling panel that fell on her as she traveled through one of the new tunnels, Mitt went on TV and said he would get to the bottom of this dangerous, deadly project. But he didn't. Here was a public safety issue a conservative could have made a presidential-run-reputation on, exposing the Democrat corruption and fixing the problems. But he ignored it, preserving the public health menace for future victims. Instead, he took campaign contributions from international Big Dig contractors.

3. I thought he was pro-life? Romney's Massachusetts health care plan says "no." The plan covers abortion. What kind of Pro-lifer thinks abortion should be part of his health care plan? Romney signed this bill into law after he claims he had a discussion with an anonymous Harvard doctor wherein he discovered abortion was morally wrong.

Would it be too cynical to suggest the Harvard doctor was a PHD at the Kennedy School of Government who gave him a lot of computer printouts on Republican voters showing they don't like abortion? Was it then he "discovered" abortion was wrong ( i.e. the wrong position for a conservative presidential candidate)?

Unlike Reagan who had a true turnaround on abortion, Romney has ping-ponged back and forth on this issue for years. As a 1994 U.S. Senate candidate, he said he had believed for nearly a quarter century that abortion should be "safe and legal." Yet by 2001, the Salt Lake City Tribune quoted him as saying, "I do not wish to be labeled pro-choice."

A year later, running for governor in Massachusetts, Romney was definitely Pro-choice and promised he would not touch any abortion law. During a candidate's debate, he was so firmly Pro-choice, he renounced an endorsement from Massachusetts' Citizens for Life.

But last year in South Carolina, a modern day miracle occurred. Romney declared, "I am firmly Pro-life...I was always for life."

4. But he does stand for family values, right? If you think two guys getting married constitutes a family, then yes, he's into family values. Publicly, he was as normal and upstanding a family values guy as you'll see. But privately, he seemed to be working for the gay agenda. When the Massachusetts' Supreme Court imposed gay marriage on the citizens of the Commonwealth, Romney could have exercised a "bill of address" to impeach the activist judges. But he didn't. He signed something he didn't have to directing town clerks to issue marriage licenses to same sex couples or be fired. One Justice of the Peace Linda Gray Kelley did lose her job because of her religious views against gay marriage.

Romney went even further however and directed his Department of Health to change the state marriage licenses to read "Party A" and "Party B" replacing "Husband" and "Wife."Romney was under no legal obligation to do either of these things. Would a true family values governor do this?

He now claims to support a constitutional amendment to protect marriage. Yet in 2002 then governor Romney called a similar attempt to amend the Massachusetts' Constitution "too extreme."

He's the kind of family values guy who distributes pink fliers proclaiming, "Mitt and Kerry wish you a great Pride Weekend" during "Gay Pride" events. Oh, he's against the gay agenda!! And he's for it.

5. But he's a fiscal conservative, right? When it comes to spending money, he is more liberal than Ted K. He's spent the gross national product of small nations on media, which accounts for all the good press he's gotten. Ninety percent of voters may not want him, but 99 percent of the media loves him - even conservative talk radio show hosts.

Big spenders Hillary and Ted K praised the health care law signed by Romney. Coincidentally, it is quite similar to a plan unveiled by Hillary dubbed, "Healthy Choices." Romney Care increases government mandates, regulations, costs and bureaucracy with less choice for consumers. The Congressional Budget Office noted that this level of government intervention and regulation was "unprecedented."

Unprecedented – as in – even the out-of-control socialist Democrats hadn't gone this far. Sally Pipes, of the Pacific Research Institute who reviewed Romney Care in a recent Wall St. Journal article said the governor's plan was in "intensive care" right after birth. Only months after going into effect, the plan was costing Bay Staters $150 million more than the public was first told.

Premiums are nearly double what Romney promised. Keep in mind, Massachusetts already has the highest health care costs in the world. And Mitt increased them. Let's connect the dots.

RomneyCare will take "Taxachusetts" into the 75 percent tax rate. That's his fiscal legacy to the place American Democracy began. Imagine what Mitt could do as president.

6. But he'll elect conservative judges, right? Romney loves to preach passionate sermons against "judicial activism." He promised to nominate strict conservative constructionists to the federal bench. The problem is, his record disagrees. The Boston Globe reports that as governor, Romney "passed over GOP lawyers for three quarters of the 36 judicial court vacancies he faced, instead tapping registered Democrats or Independents including two gay lawyers who have supported expanded same-sex rights."

7. Are you saying he can't be trusted? Ted K called him John Kerry. The term he used was "Multiple Choice Mitt," i.e. Mitt takes numerous positions on issues. He's for it, against it and – oh what the heck – he's such a nice guy he agrees with both sides. When it comes to issues Ted is right, Mitt looks like John Kerry. The good thing is voters seem to understand Romney better than the media. A recent Pew Center Poll found only 12 percent of respondents thought of Mitt Romney when the word "honest" was presented to them-the lowest percentage of the four major Republican candidates.

For all you Iowa-New Hampshire-South Carolina gun owners, keep this in mind. Mitt is for and against the 2nd amendment. While campaigning in New Hampshire last April, he said to a man wearing an NRA hat that he was a "life long hunter." Romney's campaign quickly issued a retraction, admitting he'd only hunted twice in his life. He declared his love for Massachusetts' fascistic gun laws and favors the Brady Law, which the NRA opposes. Perhaps the time will come when he "discovers" the second amendment is a good thing. But it can only happen during an election campaign.

8. Well then, what's all this about Mitt being the "pragmatic" Republican choice? Ah yes. Keep in mind, pragmatic means "what works." Mitt has a voter approval rating down around that of the Pelosi congress, in spite of all the media's acting as his press agent. Voters don't trust him. The idea that he is the Hillary-slayer is at odds with his record, which...uh... has much in common with Hillary, in particular the gay-friendly, socialist health care stuff.

If pragmatic means "what works," then what is it about Mitt that works? When most Americans wouldn't vote for Mitt in spite of all the money he's thrown out and all the media glorification, doesn't that seem to be the opposite of pragmatism? Contrary to conservative talk radio common wisdom, Mitt is the un-pragmatic choice. If Mitt does to America what he did to the "Birthplace of American Democracy," America will be in a nose-dive by 2012.

You live in MA? How do we know you live there? You are making statements that are of off the wall, and refutable, as your charge is countered by others who live in MA.

You are misrepresenting the health plan. I have a copy which I downloaded from the Government site.

This is the cached copy of http://www.mass.gov/gic/spd/nhpspdfy08.pdf.

right on
It is about time that someone has said it all this way. I live in Ma. and I have to live with all Romneys bad laws. I 100% agree. Mitt could have done alot more to help out conservstim in Ma. but he chose not to. Health care is the biggest joke. My 20 year old daughter who makes 10 dollars an hour has to buy insurance for more than 200 dollars per month. She does not need it. Mitt also FAILED to help elect his own lt. govenor. He was running for govenor as soon as he walked in the door. CONSERVATIVES, DON'T BE FOOLED.

Huckabee

It's bizarre the wide range of views on how liberal or conservative the candidates are.

Some say Thompson because Mitt is too liberal.

But I heard Ann Coulter on the radio the other day and she said the EXACT OPPOSITE.

She said Romney was as conservative as anyone could be as the governor of a deep blue state like Massachusetts.

Whereas she considered Thompson's conservatism suspect because he could have been way less liberal as a Senator and the people of a conservative state like Tennessee would be just fine with that.

So her point was that Romney tried to be as conservative as he could be for the environment he was in, while Thompson did just the opposite.

So as I understood it, her point is that Romney's personal instinct is to be conservative while Thompson's is to be liberal.

I don't know how valid her point is but I did find it interesting.

Personally those two, Thompson and Romney, are the only two of the major candidates I think deserve consideration. I happen to support Romney, but I think Thompson is OK too, and as an immigration reform advocate I give him high praise for having released an immigration policy plan the other day which is the first I am aware of from any candidate that truly shows a good understanding of the issue.

The one thing I do advise is for people not to be fooled by Huckabee. The guy is a tax and spend liberal, and he's a pro-illegal immigration guy who loves to schmooze with the La Raza types. (and he loves to make nasty slurs against those who want the immigration laws enforced. At least he used to do that in Arkansas.) (the evidence can be found in my book "Immigration Politics", or just do a little googling and you should be able to dig up his sorry record on that issue.

"Janis Hutchinson who escaped from the Mormon cult has their number. "

I hate to disappoint the cloak and dagger effect you have built up, but it is not that dramatic "escaping" the LDS church

Jacob H.
"I am surprised by how the public accepts the Mormons. "

Why not? What is it to you?

Thanks for this article.
I am surprised by how the public accepts the Mormons. I am also shocked by the ignorance of the public about the beliefs of the Mormons.
It is scary. (The people's ignorance and the beliefs of the Mormons.) I wish that people would look into Mormon beliefs. They would be shocked, too.

How sweet it is.
The writer was too kind, in his article.

"Consult with lawyers" before going to war?

Mit will say anything for votes
He waffles, he waivers, he wiggles, he wobbles.
The only thing that matters to this man is money and power.

He's too slick to be real.

But Jackson has slick Mitt's number,

and Janis Hutchinson who escaped from the Mormon cult has their number.

Let's try REASON!
You said,

"When he was elected, Massachusetts had a Republican governor for nearly two decades. When he left, it didn't. What it had was a Hillary disciple who is now transforming the Cradle of Liberty into an amalgam of the Soviet Union, Sodom and Las Vegas."

On the one hand, you imply the state was conservative before him because they elected GOP governers for two decades, and it was his fault they became so liberal they elected a democrat after him. At the same time, he must be a liberal, because the state is liberal, and they elected him.

The truth is the state had been electing conservative governors for a very long time even though it was fairly liberal and continues to become more liberal through the years. Even when they last elected a Democrat, Edward Joseph King (1979-1983), he was conservative on most issues.

Gov. King is described on the governor website (www.mass.gov) in the following way: "Governor King froze property taxes, reduced state spending on social programs, and undertook a variety of efforts to encourage business formation and agriculture in Massachusetts. He identified the need for greater centralized data and technology planning in state government, creating a new division for this inside the Executive Office of Administration and Finance. Advocating capital punishment, President Reagan called King his "favorite Democratic Governor," which mobilized the liberal members of King's own party to defeat him."

As you mentioned, the state had been electing conservatives before him, so electing him as a conservative is easy to understand with over two decades of precedent.

There are many illogical statements in your blog here. I don't have time to unravel them all in a comment, but see my blog for more:

Ok iam convinced
Guess I'll vote for Hillary. Might as well vote for the socialist thats out of the closet

Two thumbs up - Sandman!
I agree with the following post: "What we do know is that a) you don’t get elected governor of one of this nation’s most liberal states by swearing allegiance to the creed of Reagan; and b) he has admitted to and demonstrated his previous commitments to PRO-abortion, ANTI-gun and OTHER liberal policies. We are now being asked to accept on FAITH?, in effect, that he has now repudiated his previous liberal views, because there is no track record of conservative action. And so we are left only with the words of someone who seems to frequently change his mind about what he truly believes."

THEY DO LIKE TO REINCARNATE or MORPH when running for president, don't they? Romney is as double-minded as his competitor HRC! Wow, that would be a NO-WIN election for the entire Nation; let's step back into the Dark Ages! Heaven help us all if those two become our choices! I believe people are starting to see Hillary's facade; hopefully, they will see through Romney's.-(Beware of a wolf dressed in sheep's clothing!)

Anyone who watched the demo debate knows Hillary can't handle questions where she hasn't been prepped beforehand or play with "the boys!" She is as false as her plastic surgery face! Follow this link:

Go Fred or Huck!

Romney's : he's a RINO for big money
Mitt Romney has no problem playing the role and pretending to be a conservative. His Mormon roots make that a natural. What is far more telling is that is was elected governor of Massachussetts, a very liberal Northeastern state in the heart of the liberal "establishment" of this country. They had to at least toleate him for him to have a chance. they seem to have turned a blind eye to him.

Romney has the big money that most politicians only represent the interests of. Much of his money was inherited from his father, auto maker and former Republican Senator, George Romney. He knows how to represent his own money, and the big money elites trust himm accordingly to do their bidding as well.

To get elected, he will flip flop until "his fish, being out of the water on various issues,is comfortably and safely swimming again.

McCain is trying to do this flip flop on the illegal immigration issue, an issue he fell on his sword for in support of big money interests.

The first tier candidates in both parties are members of the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR)which is the premier organization in the United States representing big money, elite interests. They will support and further the blueprint for our future outlined and proposed in "Building a North American Community." President Bush has attended three summits furthering this plan with his counterparts in Mexico and Canada. Check this out on the internet. Have some grains of salt and your skepticism handy, but suspend your disbelief long enouth to check it out.

Our freedoms and liberties asAmericans hand in the balance. Our sovereignty, way of life, and standard of living will be as devalued as our dollar is now. And the dollar story behind this dramatic fall of the dollar is part of this plan as well.

Loser.

Sheesh, I guess it had to happen.
I've never fully understood why some people find Mormonism so threatening.

I'm not Mormon personally but I do have family members who are and I say that without a doubt they are some of the kindest, most family oriented, generous (with time and money), and patriotic people I know. Certainly more so than other so called "Christians" I know who can't seem to feel good about themselves without berating others for their beliefs.

This is America people where we're all entitled to believe whatever we want as long as we don't harm others.

I have my doubts about Romney but his religion plays absolutely no part of it, nor should it. It doesn't take an IQ of "150" to see the true motivation behind this article. What garbage.

Sean\Fejj, you're right to be proud of your religion.

GOF and the rest of the haters should be ashamed of themselves...

Romney
I am surprised Townhall would allow such a hit piece on any candidate, even a on a Democrat! This writer must be dizzy with all his spinning. I think he and all the "Mormon" haters that came out of the woodwork on the comments should set up their own website and scream and yell all day. They need to find a nice Baptist church attend, pray, and work on that grace the Lord was so kind to provide them. I don't blame the writer as it is evident he suffers from diminished capacity when it comes to Romney but Townhall is normally more responsible. I believe in free speech but this was out and out slander.
I am sure Hillary and Rudy really appreciate all his efforts but we are just not as stupid as the mainstream media has us made out to be. You guys must really be loosing your grip.

grumpy old fart's question avoidance
GOF
I note you and lexenox continue to avoid answering the question of the status of the polygamous Old Testament prophets - a slightly inconvenient impediment to your false doctrine meme. Surely you must have an opinion. Why would God permit these good men to whom He revealed His will to to practice such a 'perversion' - most curious. Or is that portion of the Bible mistaken?

In your world the Book of Mormon is Smith's fantasy. Well we have the book and so it must be explained. So, aside from our explanation (which we know you reject), only two theories have emerged as the preferred position of those who oppose the church. I'm curious as to which camp you fall into. Are you in:
1. The 'Joseph Smith wrote it' camp (the Solomon Spaulding theory) OR
2. The 'Joseph Smith was deceived by the devil disguised as an angel who inspired him as to what to write' camp?

Conservtives only, please.
No more liberals. Period.

Gregg Jackson commentary.???
Ohhh Mr. Jackson;

You sir, have some definitive serious bigoted issues.

Did you ever hear of slanted thinking, or did you simply just make it up when you posted you "laughable" silly & tainted comment.

Watch & observe sir. Governor Romney will very very be your next USA President.

By the way, what type of credentials do you have sir? They certainly do seem highly questionable to myself.

Best of luck to you in your fruitless expeditions...

Jerry-

Fejj
"You, and others who attack the LDS church, use polygamy as your main attack weapon..."

Nice try. Avoid my direct questions all you want my Mormon friend, but don't paint me as some theologian debating the minutae of any particular superstition.

My quarrel is with the fantasy dished out by Joe Smith, and those who refuse to face the obvious historical facts which contradict it. Re-read my posts and try again.

aDNA On A roll!
you are on a roll. Keep it comin, Surprised you have not talked about Romney's support for homosexual scout masters or how he forced Catholic Charities in Boston to adopt to same sex couples or get out of the adoption business. This guy has sooooo many skelatons it's unbelievable.

Gun Restriction Galore
"When Romney ran for Senate in 1994, he told the Boston Herald that he supported the Brady gun-control law and a ban on scores of semi-automatic firearms. Both laws were heavily supported by Democrats and — according to President Bill Clinton — were the reason that his party lost control of the Congress in 1994."

PS, Romney has supported gun restrictions all the way up to 2005, until he decided to run for President.

So pick a candidate that does not want to restrict gun ownership in the US. Mike Huckabee does not leave you wondering.

Why risk so, so much being wrong on Romney?

Huckabee/Paul '08! (#2)
Everybody who posts that Huckabee is a big-government CINO/RINO isn't on to Romney, or what?

Anybody who can buy their way into the election is suspicious anyway. (And to my utter embarrassment, I voted for Ross Perot in '92)

In the top tier,
Rudy's pro-choice, pro-gay, anti-gun.
Mitt "I'm a flipper not a flopper" was pro-choice & pro-gay as short as 5 years ago.
Fred is against the marriage & life amendments, voted no on impeaching Clinton.
McCain brought us McCain/Feingold campaign finance reform, McCain/Kennedy/Bush amnesty.

Huckabee's more socially conservative than them all, and only Ron Paul beats him on fiscal conservatism.

Meanwhile, rounding out the 2nd tier you have
Hunter and Tancredo (also Keyes & Cox for thoroughness' sake). God love 'em, they're good guys, but their supporters, for the good of the country, ought to get behind someone else so we don't hand this to Rudy or Mitt by default. Less than 2 months to the 1st primary.

That leaves us with 2 choices.

If you think Huck is a big-government, pro-amnesty CINO, then Ron Paul's your man.

If you think Paul's an isolationist wackjob with neo-Nazis for supporters, and truly reducing the federal government & living by the Constitution are just pipe dreams, then Huck's your man.

I say we join forces behind these two and stick it to the 2-party corporate shell game.

Or sing the Who song again, "Meet the new boss, same as the old boss."

Huckabee/Paul '08!
AbingtonJim, we here in the Republic of Texas & the rest of flyover country know gay marriage was forced on you by the MA courts. But, Romney didn't have to rush in and order "bride/groom" stricken from the marriage applications before the legislature had a chance to follow court's orders to change the law.

soulsamurai, props for supporting Huckabee. Governors typically do win the presidency, and since the only 2 in the race are Huck and Mitt, I've chosen Huck.

Pirate, thanks for your insider's view to Romney's guv-ship. I'll return the favor if Rick Perry ever tries to be President.

He'll "do more than Ted Kennedy"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uEOJNw4lmlI

Mitt answers a question about Boy Scouts and homosexuals. It may concern you if you go to a Bible believing church, which might not wish to hire someone living in open sin. (ENDA)

It may concern you if you think two separate, opposite answers to a question in the same breath are problematic.

It may concern you if the questioner points out that Romney has promised to do more for "homosexual rights" and abortion than Ted Kennedy.

Remember
Today, nearly 24 million (eight percent) of our countrymen are veterans. Of those, 33 percent served in Vietnam, 18 percent in the Gulf War, 14 percent in WWII and 13 percent in Korea. About three percent served in Iraq and Afghanistan and other counter-terrorism theaters. More than 25 percent of those veterans suffer some disability.

Please pause with us at 1100 EST this Sunday to pray for all our veterans.

His excuse not to support marriage amdt
This is an excuse not to protect marriage I have not seen before...

"Mitt Romney's wife, son, and daughter-in-law signed a petition in support of a proposed constitutional amendment that would ban both gay marriage and domestic-partner benefits in Massachusetts - an amendment that Romney himself condemned as too extreme after being told of his family's support for it. … Eric Fehrnstrom, a Romney campaign spokesman, said Romney opposes gay marriage but also opposes the amendment, since he sees no reason to change the current laws, which allow for domestic-partner benefits to public employees.… 'Mitt did not know they signed it, and Mitt does not support it,' he said. 'As far as Mitt is concerned, it goes farther than current law, and therefore it's unnecessary.' "
- Boston Globe 3/22/2002

Commonwealth Care
A veto here and there, on Romney's part, could be very shrewd. If he knew he was running for president, he could veto a few things for appearance's sake. Another posted the fact that Arnold vetoed homosexual marriage, but passed seven other bills; 777 shoves homosexuality into every subject in school.

Look, his vetos would be overridden, so no harm done. This is my refutation of the "He did what he could considering the liberal legislature and courts" defense. That is not enough. In these days, Republicans need to be extremely wary, since Dems are creating and funding their own Republican party--see Guiliani, Thompson, McCain, Arnold, etc.

This man passed the only universal health care package in the whole country. It is set up to give health care to illegals.

Why go against your doubt? Support a true conservative, like Huckabee or Hunter.

inkling
let's do some editing on your writing. i'll just go through your last couple of posts so as not to waste too much of my time.

1. you wrote, "You haven't the time to organize your thoughts... and yet, you think your thoughts are so important that you post them, WITHOUT organizing them."

now i don't have a 150 IQ like you claim to in your earlier post, but isn't there an inflection in one's voice upon reading that sentence that would indicate it should be punctuated with a question mark? (much like the one i just used) maybe you were just in a hurry, and and i can understand how that happens.

2. "And after 30 F**KING YEARS of studying Christian theology, I'm telling you -- there's are valid, GENERALLY ACCEPTED reasons to identify Mormon theology as outside the mainstream of Christian thought."

since we're being petty. did you mean to write, "there ARE valid, GENERALLY ACCEPTED reasons to identify...."? also, i don't believe "F**KING YEARS of studying Christian theology" is really considered to be a sign of professionalism. furthermore, the sentence is kind of oxymoronic with the whole vulgarity and christian thing.

just my humble opinions though. maybe if you give me your email address i could send you my posts for you to edit before they go on the board. and with any F**KING luck i can feel as confident as you some day. i threw that expletive in there so i could maybe start to be as professional as you.

grumpy old fart
You give the impression of being a concerned Christian (concerned enough to 'warn' others of Mormonism's falsehoods as you see it) and yet you say "who cares what God think". Wow - very odd! You, and others who attack the LDS church, use polygamy as your main attack weapon and so I ask a valid question (which I note Lexenox has failed to answer).

So gof why don't you have a go answering it? Or maybe there have been times in the past when God has authorised the practice of polygamy. It is worth noting that the revered House of Israel (the 12 sons of Jacob) each came from one of Jacob's FOUR wives. If Mitt Romney is a flawed candidate for believing in a church that believes that there have been limited times (in the past) when the practice of polygamy has received God's sanction, then the Bible must too be flawed to contain the writings of not only flawed polygamous prophets but of their offspring as well. My my my - what a theological mess - discounting Jacob and all his descendants as somehow being apostate.

America
Sorry. I should have been more specific, since not everyone is familiar with the central plot line of Joe Smith's fantasy. Lehi et al (Hebrews) coming to America around 600 B.C., with subsequent divisions and infighting over the next 800 years or so, leaving the native americans alone in the end (descendants of Hebrews and the cursed seed of Cain) blah blah blah.

All of this tale is total B.S. of course, but back when Smith was starting this cult he had no way of knowing that anyone would eventually be able to disprove his story.(Well, maybe if he was just a tad smarter, or really cared, he might have...)

In any case, is there any good reason why an educated 21st century person would resist stating the obvious, that Smith tall tale was total fiction?

Greg Jackson- Romney's secrets
Greg Jackson isn't being truthful on Romney. As a Conservative, I do know Romney was a weak beginner but he struggled with a radical left liberal legislature who loved to tax, spend and party. Romney spent a lot of time using his veto but they always had enough votes to wash out his veto. Romney kept at it and I do know he was not for same sex marriage. One only has to read the facts on this subject. Romney wanted to give the people the opportunity to vote but again our legislature decided they would not give us our constitutional right to vote. Massachusetts is a big socialist state where the people have no rights. The legislature is in fact owned by the gay lobby and I didn't see in your article that fact. In fact the head of the gay lobby wrote a letter to the legislators telling them they had better stop the vote because they "the gay lobby" was responsible for them keeping their seats. Romney didn't have a chance but he kept trying. Now we have a radical left liberal governor along with our radical left legislature. Deval Patrick worked for Bubba Clinton and he's cut from the same cloth. The real conservatives keep trying but with people like this writer, we'd have a better chance with the devil. You may be on talk radio but I listen to Rush and Howie Carr. Never heard of you.

You won't care, but every bit of respect I had for you just flushed down the toilet. I'm not even a liberal. Maybe you've had a bad day? So, you think Rudy is more Christian than Mitt, go figure.

Taft shows he's truly a liberal
Liberals always assume that when people disagree with their point of view, it's because they're just ignorant. "If they bothered to read as much as *I* read," they think, "they would obviously agree with me."

Taft, you ARROGANT LITTLE TROLL...

Yes, I've known Mormon families. Plenty of them. I've shared meals with them. I've barbecued hamburgers with them. I've worked beside them. I've had their missionaries in my home. I even liked some of them. And unlike you, I've studied their theology.

And after 30 F**KING YEARS of studying Christian theology, I'm telling you -- there's are valid, GENERALLY ACCEPTED reasons to identify Mormon theology as outside the mainstream of Christian thought.

Now -- stop assuming that you're the smartest man the planet has ever seen, and make room in your BIGOTED thinking for the possibility that somebody might just have more information on a subject than you.

God, these arrogant liberals make me PUKE. They think they're the most moral people on the planet, and they're the least.

Dude -- you're making an idiot of yourself, and I'm trying to HELP you. Bite all you like, it just makes you seem that much more a fool.

Funny
Some RWers are ready to ditch Mitt over religion, and he's like way more Christian than Rudy. His own church won't let him take communion or be buried in their cemetery.

inkling_revival
Have you ever met a Mormon family? You would change your mind instantly. All religions have ideas perceived by others to be a bit odd.

Hey, grumpy old fart,
If indeed Mitt believes in "facts" as you choose to call them, and yet in the same sentence suggests that facts are untrue, what basis do you have for determining the next president of the United States since all facts are untrue? Quite frankly, you might find that Fejj's comments to be something a christian conservative might ask you. But, if you want to answer his question on polygamy, I recommend that you ask yourself what you or the leaders of your religion would do if all of a sudden governors, such as Wilburn Boggs of Missouri issued an extermination order to kill all who belonged to your religion? Preservation of life and of the religion is exactly why polygamy was instituted among Mormons. While they instituted it long before the extermination order, Joseph Smith spent a considerable amount of time in jail which he was later told he was innocent for any crimes. What do you call unlawfully holding someone prisoner? Would you call it a threat against your constitutional rights?

Now, lets think about this for a moment. Here your life is placed in danger, all who are following you have their lives in danger, freedom of religion is not applicable to your set of beliefs, and you are constantly hounded as a fugitive from state-to-state only because people fail to understand. If this kind of activity were happening in America today against your religion, would you be alright with it?

With Republicans like these...
who needs enemies?

Commonwealth Care
This is the nation’s first comprehensive “universal coverage” health bill.

It covers illegals; anyone applying will not be turned in to the INS.

And there is Mitt Romney right there. It's a two-for-one--you can see how he feels about entitlement programs, and illegal immigration.

Fejj
Look, who the heck knows what the Gods want? Who cares? I do know, however, that I don't want a president who is willing to profess belief in facts that he knows to to untrue.

Do you?

This article is non-sense
Truely, Mitt has some challenges in his campaign. He worked with a bunch of Democrats in Massachusetts who have worked hard to mess any political chances for Mitt that they could. This strategy is called political positioning. Even though you have a Republican governor with a majority of Democrats in the Senate and the House, what else are the Democrats to do but to royally mess things up for the governor, so they can get the power during the next political cycle. Now the Democrats are taking all of the terrible things that the Mass House and Senate did and blaming it on Mitt. Does anyone actually think that Mitt Romney passed all the laws all by himself? Does anyone think that Governor has any responsibility for what the Mass House and Senate passed into law? Mitt tells everyone that he used his power to veto a great deal. Well, I wonder why. Look at all the Democrats he was working with. Is anyone really surprised by all of this political positioning?

lexonex's polygamy obsession
Lex
Sean is right. I am a temple going LDS member and have witnessed the sealing of an LDS woman who was previously sealed.

A question I want you to answer though and that is: does the fact that Abraham, Isaac and Jacob (all recognized by Jews and Christians as prophets) practised polygamy make them wrong or unacceptable in the eyes of God?

Gregg is a Joke
I have grown to expect this type of journalism (opinion) from the left, but it is disturbing when I find it on the right. I do not doubt that Romney is moderate or even liberal on some issues, but don't try and substaniat these claims with lies. I know for a fact that Romney was the biggest fighter against gay Marriage in the country, testified in congress against its dangers and spoke nationally about the need for a Marriage Ammendment. There is no way you don't know that also. It was the Mass legislature that put gay marriate in. You are a disgrace! What is your agenda?

Just the facts ma'am
I have little use for debating the theological questions raised by Mormons, Baptists, Catholics, or any other religion for that matter. The main issue I have with Mormons is their demonstrably false and racist assertions regarding history.

How can you trust a man who professes belief in facts he knows to be untrue?

How about it Sean?

Mitt's REAL record
Romney is a liberal. But a the good kind of liberal. An Arnold liberal.

First of all, Romney is pro-gay rights. And that's a good thing, btw. Let's just get that out of the way. A person can be pro-gay and against gay marriage. Just look at Arnold in California. He vetoed the gay marriage bill BUT signed ALL the other 7 pro-gay rights bills sent to him. 7 out of 8 pro-gay rights measures is VERY impressive.

Romney is in fact a liberal. RomneyCare.

5 ¶ Thus saith the LORD; Cursed be the man that trusteth in man, and maketh flesh his arm, and whose heart departeth from the LORD.

5 ¶ Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.
6 In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.

Brother, you have helped Mr. Romney by raising peoples awareness of him, at the expense your won nose dive.

Sincerity is not enough, we must know the truth and it is sad that you have been deceived and I hope you will recover. Remember if we follow Christ we will do as Christ, given to prayer, compassion, and caring service with love.

He has a great skill compromising with liberals. Yay.

Ta-Da!
And the true agenda magically appears!

no need to apologize.
your intentions are sincere and you just want to defend your religion. i just believe that mormons as whole should avoid clarifying these distortions. what's funny is that these avowed anti-mormons think they are doing good things by "exposing" mormons with their ridiculous claims that they know mormonism better than mormons do. what's gonna happen is that their distortions of what they say happens in temples and what mormons believe will only serve to generate genuine interest. they keep trying to out-do each other with wild claim after wild claim and eventually the topic of mormonism will take on urban legend status, and no one can help but see if the urban legends are true.
i once knew a good man from worcester, massachusetts (he has since passed away). he told me of how he became a convert to the lds church. he said that when he was younger he lived next door to lds missionaries and being the obnoxious guy he was, he liked to try and get under their skin. so he took it a step further and decided he would read the book of mormon and try to ridicule the missionaries with strange questions he got out of it. long story short, he said half-way thru he said to himself, "dammit, now i know it's true." and then he felt the need to convert.
let these guys run with it. they're hurting their own cause.

Sean "Cold Water" applied to face
“is based on the belief that spouses of plural sealings will be allowed the choice in the hereafter which sealing will continue and which will be broken” (Sean)

Where are your Mormon Scriptures that document this claim? Where is the “revelation” by ANY Mormon Prophet that supports this claim? Where is the speech given by ANY Mormon General Authority suggesting this claim?

Your problem is very simple Sean. You are using your own thesis or Mormon culture hearsay to keep that big fragile Mormon belief mosaic in your head from cracking from top to bottom.

Search for God Sean. Let God develop your belief system and not some cult.

(The “Mormon Orgy” title was meant to be descriptive and not offensive)

I think I've explained everything that needs to be explained (though part of me wishes I hadn't). This will be my final post to you.

I was one of those mormon missionaries.

Your claim: "Sean, you claim to be a “Mormon”. I understand “Mormonism”, you don't!" is arogant and absurd.

If you want to believe that you understand the tenets of my faith better than I do, go ahead. I'm done arguing.

Mormon Christians
It seems quite ironic, for all the anti-Christian claims made against The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Why, of ALL the Christians denominations, is it the ONLY one with Christ on their Church's official home page? Maybe because it is actually Christ's true Church on the earth?

The Creedal Christians are the ones who make a narrow definition of Christian, so as to exclude everyone else who believe in Christ as not being Christian. While the Mormon Christian may differ in some theological concepts in Christ, at least they do not deny you your Christianity over it.

The article by Gregg Jackson is as, anti-Romney, as is any of the anti-Mormon article's I have seen. Packed full of Bull-Faced lies.

scallywag
I know. I know. And I really debated even addressing the subject. But since the original question was whether or not Mitt was a true Mormon based on his response to poligamy, I thought I might be able to keep it on that level. Instead I was sucked in---and have been trying to fight my way back out of the topic ever since---by someone who obviously had an agenda drastically different from his/her original query. I apologize. It won't happen again.

What does Sean Really Know?
“you should know better than to enter a setting such as this and try to explain something as complex as temple sealings. your intentions are good i'm sure, but these guys your up against didn't come here to understand you” (Advise given to Sean)

Sean, you claim to be a “Mormon”. I understand “Mormonism”, you don’t! Please show the documentation to support your claim i.e. Mormon scriptures that allow Mormon females to be “sealed” to multiple Mormon males.

Sean, please stop those Mormon Missionaries one day and ask them if a Mormon female can be sealed in the Mormon Temple to multiple Mormon males. I guarantee you that the answer is “No”. At least, I SURE HOPE SO.

Come on now, any other “Mormons” beside Sean that believe that Mormon females can be sealed in the Mormon Temple to multiple Mormon males?

lexonex
No off-shute. I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Your "Mormon-Orgy?" subject line is offensive, though I must admit I saw it coming. In my earlier post I debated explaining further that the current arrangement of plural sealings for women (and men for that matter) is based on the belief that spouses of plural sealings will be allowed the choice in the hereafter which sealing will continue and which will be broken. Apparently I should have. We also believe that people who are unmarried in this life will have the opportunity to marry in the next, because we see marriage as one of the greatest blessings most important steps in human progression.

I doubt that this explanation makes the practice any more acceptable (or understandable) to you, but maybe it speaks to the gender-inequity concerns from your earlier posts.

I know I said that I would rather not argue the religious question with you and I stand by that, but since it was my neglect (or overestimate) that fostered your response, I thought I better clarify.

sean
you should know better than to enter a setting such as this and try to explain something as complex as temple sealings. your intentions are good i'm sure, but these guys your up against didn't come here to understand you. that's why there are mormon missionaries that make themselves available to whoever wants to listen in a private setting that doesn't foster the penchant for hyperbole and cheap political points. just turn the other cheek.

SandMan
Catholic priest practice a profession. They are paid to preach. It is perhaps a noble profession (at least it used to be, for some it still is) and I don't have a problem with paid clergy, but it is a career choice and doesn't necessarily connote the same sacrifice as volunteerism (especially on the level that Mitt has volunteered for his church). That's a poor counter-argument.

Your original post suggested that Mitt is Mormon the way Rudy is Catholic. I offered his volunteerism as evidence that there is a huge difference in the way the two practice their religions. I could have also offered the fact that Mitt attends services every week (no matter where he is) whereas the kind of catholic of convenience your equating him to attends every once in while, or a meriad of other lifestyle differences, but it sounds like that may not have had any more influence on you.

You can learn the LDS position on abortion at http://www.lds.org.

"Human life is a sacred gift from God. Elective abortion for personal or social convenience is contrary to the will and the commandments of God. Church members who submit to, perform, encourage, pay for, or arrange for such abortions may lose their membership in the Church."

You'll notice that there is no political position stated.

Mormons are also against drinking, smoking and coffee, but they aren't trying to get them outlawed on a national level. As a general rule, they do not try to force their beliefs on other people via government mandate.

One's political position on abortion is therefore left to the individual. And there are plenty of Mormons (albeit a minority) who are pro-life personally (they would never have or encourage an abortion) but pro-choice as a matter of public policy (they either believe the libertarian view that it is not a matter for government, or they believe making abortion illegal would lead to dangerous consequences).

Mitt's abortion history in no way makes him any less Mormon.

Mormon Orgy?
“I'm mormon and have personally been present at a sealing of a widow to another man; several times in fact. The rule you're referring to was at one time standard, but it is no longer.” (Sean)

Sean, do you realize what you are saying? Step back a little. You are saying Mormon men AND Mormon women can be sealed to multiple spouses? What kind of Mormon Heavenly Order is that? I think that would make Hugh Hefner blush.

(When you say you are “Mormon” what does that mean? Reorganized Church of Latter Day Saints or some other off shoot? Are you really a Member of “The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints”?)

Gregg Jackson Is a Joke

lexonex
Just to clarify one more time:

In the sealings which I have attended and aluded to, the widow had been previously sealed to another man, without the previous seal being broken. She was therefore sealed to two men.

Is yours a sanctity of marriage (one man + one woman) or a feminist (men can be sealed to multiple women, but not the other way around) argument? Based on your comments it seems like the second, but I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and believe it is the first. Either to me is a moot point. My original response to your posts was meant to further the political debate, not the religious.

It seemed from your first comment ("I just want him to OWN ALL OF HIS RELIGION and come clean that POLYGAMY IS A HEAVENLY MORMON BELIEF AND IS PART OF HIS CHURCH DOCTRINE") that it was moot for you as well. That's why I responded. I wanted to give some perspective on Mitt's quotes from someone who accepts the whole religion, but still doesn't want to practice poligamy.

I would have never got in argument with you if I knew your hang-up was poligamy (no point).

Churches do note vote, congregations do!
__Churches, religious organizations are structures from which their leaders teach the principles that bind the congregation together. I once had a conversation with a church official who had just proudly proclaimed a vote for Clinton during his second, successful presidential bid. I asked this official how, with Clinton's pro-abortion stance, they could vote for someone acting against the Words teachings. I was told, "but he does so much other good for the people." Right then, and there, I realized the blinding influence of the left. That church official was just as responsible for the death of an innocent child, has the left carries with it the same burden.

Poor Research Faulty Reasoning or False
Here is the truth behind the article. This is just a regurgitation of what has already been said before. In fact, I have seen it where there were actually citations included so you could look it all up. The problem with that was that it wasn’t all true. So this time around they put it out there without citations hoping no one can find out otherwise. Half of its untrue, half of it is true, but taken out of context and half of it is only half truths. Yea, there were three halves.

Look at it; he starts by stating wondering how Romney got elected in the most liberal state and then follows it up by stating he was the last of two decades of Republican governors. Well which is it. Yes he used to be pro-choice. Then the author cleverly weaves recent statements in with old statements to make it look like Mitt is flip flopping. And no mysterious doctor helped him change his mind. A doctor told him embryonic stem cell research was not a moral issue because they were all destroyed within ten days. At that point he realized that abortion had so degraded life that Government should and must step in.

So he didn’t impeach the justices of the Mass Court. Who in Congress has asked for the impeachment of the liberal U.S. Supreme Court Justices? Come on. This guy is rehashing an old shoddy hit piece on Romney that a group called Mass Resistance did on him. A good chunk of the stuff they turned up was taken out of context and other stuff was just plain false.

Unfortunately many people will not take the time to do the research like I have done so they won’t know the truth. It’s why campaigns are so negative. People will believe anything. I hope that about covers it.

lexonex

Beware of the small print
The "little details off to the side" as you put it Hawk, are what make Mormons Mormon. You obviously know little of Mormon doctrine and Dogma.

This isn't a matter of some philosophical babble about how one gets to Heaven. To be a professing Mormon is to sign onto seriously whacked and obviously fraudulent assertions of verifiable human history and reality. Someone who can do that without qaulm is someone of which to be wary.

I am sorry to disappoint. I'm just one of the many part-time posters that thinks his opinion is more honest than the other. I wish you a good day. I'd hope we'd all be a little more responsible with the anonymity that the internet offers us and write with just a bit more decorum.
At the end of the day, although I don't personally know any of these candidates, I feel bad that they have to undergo all these nameless and faceless attacks without any way of addressing them all.
Look, I'm solidly in the corner of Duncan Hunter, but I don't believe Romney's character should be besmirched because we're in the heat of a political season and we're all lobbying for our candidate of choice.
Why doesn't Mr. Jackson ever write an article in favor of who he supports? He doesn't because unfortunately it's become a testament of one's honesty to be brash and in your face.
This may sound odd, but Mr. Jackson is trying to channel the demeanor of a Barry Goldwater or an Ann Coulter, but he's lacking in the department of optimism to balance his in-your-face style. Say what you will about Ann Coulter, but you get the sense she sleeps well at night and doesn't inject into every conversation she has with someone political grievances.
We should all take a breath and realize that we all really don't know as much as we think we do. Especially when it comes to knowing the character of others.

Christian denomination
I have always found it funny when people cite numberous Bible passages that warn against adding to or taking away from the Word of God.

If each of these passages truly meant God was silencing all future prophets from ever speaking subsequent to that point, should we not discard every book of the Bible subsequent to Deut 4:2 or Prov. 30:6? Since the Gospel of John was written as many as 30 years later than the Book of Revelations - should we not cast that out too since that writing came subsequent to Revelations 22:18?

Clearly - hermeneutics of these passages dictates that these prophetic warnings of adding to or taking away from the Word of God are warnings against those who tamper with prophets' writings - not warnings intended to silence future prophets. (Otherwise - you'd better discard everything subsequent to Deut 4:2.)

lexonex
As for Mitt accepting his entire religion. He does. He embraces its full doctrine and its complete history. That doesn't mean that the practice of poligamy isn't bizarre. Even for those who believe that at certain times in the earth's history it has been a true principle, it is a concept to which we in modern western society are unaccustomed, making it by definition bizarre. Mitt's quote that he "can't imagine anything more horrible" is also perfectly acceptable for someone who accepts all tenets of Mormonism. He is referring to the day to day living in that sort of an arrangement. Given his relationship with his wife (high school sweetheart, 38 year marriage, all of the experiences and intimacy that go with it) it makes perfect sense that the thought of bringing another woman into the family would be horrible to him. He accepts that the practice of poligamy has be a true prinicple at certain points in world history, and he accepts it as a part of the history of his church, but that doesn't mean that he himself wants to practice it. That, to him would be horrible.

lexonex
I responded to your first post. I then saw your second and third, and therefore need to clear up a few other things.

Quoting the Doctrine and Covenants is fine. The original revelation on plural marriage is still in the canon of the LDS Church. But what you fail to realize is that the LDS Church believe in living scripture. That is to say that there are still prophets on the earth today who continue to direct the practices and doctrine of the Church. A few pages (and 45 years) later in the D&C the practice of plural marriage is outlawed by the then prophet Wilford Woodruff.

Now, before the Mormon-haters start scream "same yesterday, today and forever," let me ask: if poligamy always a sin, is Jacob father of the 12 tribes of Israel going to hell? What about Solomon? How about the law of Moses? Is it still in effect? Apparently God can and does change his commandments to meet his needs. I'm not saying you can't make the argument, I'm just saying there is evidence to refute.

Helen Mar Kimball 14 year old
“Without any preliminaries [my Father] asked me if I would believe him if he told me that it was right for married men to take other wives...The first impulse was anger...my sensibilities were painfully touched. I felt such a sense of personal injury and displeasure; for to mention such a thing to me I thought altogether unworthy of my father, and as quick as he spoke, I replied to him, short and emphatically, ‘No I wouldn’t!’...This was the first time that I ever openly manifested anger towards him...Then he commenced talking seriously and reasoned and explained the principle, and why it was again to be established upon the earth. [This] had a similar effect to a sudden shock of a small earthquake.”

“asked me if I would be sealed to Joseph...[and] left me to reflect upon it for the next twenty-four hours...I was sceptical-one minute believed, then doubted. I thought of the love and tenderness that he felt for his only daughter, and I knew that he would not cast her off, and this was the only convincing proof that I had of its being right. I knew that he loved me too well to teach me anything that was not strictly pure, virtuous and exalting in its tendencies; and no one else could have influenced me at that time or brought me to accept of a doctrine so utterly repugnant and so contrary to all of our former ideas and traditions.”

14 year old Nancy
Nancy’s (Nancy M. Winchester) marriage to Joseph is undocumented, although according to Mormon Church Historian Andrew Jenson, Nancy married Joseph sometime before his death in June of 1844. Nancy would have been fourteen or fifteen years old.

A few months after Joseph Smith’s death, Nancy and another six of Joseph’s wives married Heber C. Kimball. Since the temple had not been completed when Nancy married Joseph, she was re-sealed to him in 1846 in the near complete, but dedicated, Nauvoo temple. Her husband “for time”, Heber C. Kimball stood proxy for Joseph Smith in this sealing.

Nancy immigrated to Utah in 1849. Several years later she received a patriarchal blessing from John Smith. She was blessed, “to heal the sick, cast out devils, and raise the dead, if necessary.”

Nancy died on March 17, 1876 in Salt Lake City.

It's the liberalism, not his religion
For many conservatives, Romney's Mormonism is not the problem. It is his Kerry-like going back and forth on positions. He may say that what he's telling us now is his REAL position on an issue, and that he was just moderating his position to get elected in Massachusetts. But many of us have grown more cynical regarding politicians and their claims. How do we know he's not taking a more conservative position now to get elected president?

Christian denomination?
While most Mormons seem to be very nice people who are sincere in their faith, the Bible has some very explicit warnings about those who add to or take away from its passages. It also warns against believing those who claim to be prophets.

Matthew 24:24 "For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if possible, they shall deceive the very elect."

2Peter 2:1 "But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction."

Deuteronomy 4:2 "You shall not add to the word which I am commanding you, nor take away from it, that you may keep the commandments of the LORD your God which I command you.

Revelation 22:18 "I testify to everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: if anyone adds to them, God will add to him the plagues which are written in this book."

Proverbs 30:6 "Do not add to His words Or He will reprove you, and you will be proved a liar."

LDS Beliefs Mainstream
Perhaps you believe the Pearly gates are going to swing open, while LDS believe they will slide open - BIG FREAKING DEAL!!!!!

I'm looking at the big picture while you are tripping up in the detail off to the side.

Both believe in Jesus Christ - that he is the Savior of the World - that he is the way, the truth and the light - that he is God's only begotten son - that he is the promised messiah - that he died on the cross and was resurrected three days later - that he will come again.

The big picture is pretty mainstream if you ask me.

The Facts
Gov. Romney is for traditional marriage and he has proven it:

1. He pushed for an amendment to Massachusetts’ constitution to overturn the same-sex “marriages” that courts imposed.

2. He testified before Congress and wrote to senators in favor of the Federal Marriage Amendment.

3. He ordered enforcement of a little-known 1913 law to prevent out-of-state gay couples from getting “married” in Massachusetts and provoking a national constitutional crisis.

4. He opposes civil unions, but the Democrats in the state legislature demanded that they be legalized in the constitutional amendment

LDS Beliefs Mainstream?
From Wiki: "Cult roughly refers to a cohesive social group devoted to beliefs or practices that the surrounding culture considers outside the mainstream..."

Now you may consider the whole Golden Tablets, Seer Stones, Eden in Missouri, Native Americans turned red as punishment from God, etc. as mainstream beliefs Hawk, but I'm thinking not many other people would.

I'll let you read the rest of the posts to get a point-by-point rebuttal to Mr. Jackson's misrepresentations. There are plenty of quotes, links, etc. you can refer to. I'll focus instead on one of your other questions and an accusation.

"How the hell do you think he was gov of the most liberal, over-taxed state in the Union?"

You get elected when the state is facing a 3 billion dollar defecit and you are a fiscal conservative and business genius.

You also get elected by assuring the left-wing wackos that you won't change their precious gay-rights or abortion laws (as it turns out, this was a very conservative position as keeping the status quo in Mass. equates to vetoing and beating down the the continued liberalization of those platforms by a communist legislature and activist judges---which Mitt for the most part managed to do).

I am just as conservative as the "we" you refer to, socially, fiscally, and theoretically. And I would be willing to bet that I have followed the campaign of Mr. Romney more closely and am just as familiar with his record. I don't ignore it. I champion it. Maybe that's because I have researched and understand it.

I bet you didn't know that Joseph Smith (founder of the LDS church) opposed slavery. That was quite an unpopular position (even amoung "christians") at the time.

Yes, and Catholic priests don't sexually abuse little boys either.

With due respect, going through the outward motions of piety does not, in and of itself, provide proof of belief.

On the other hand, if you can show me where the LDS Church promotes, condones, or approves of abortion, I am willing to rethink my position.

Only the bafoon in you says that. Plenty of intelligent people do not embrace mormonism...but no one of any degree of intelligence labels the LDS church as a cult. The intelligent folks simply express theological disagreement - the ignorant ones say "cult." In doing so they are attempting to conjure up images of KKK gatherings and burning effigies. Anyone who applies this image/label to the LDS church is the epitome of ignorance.

That's my point.

What's Not To Like?
According to the article, Romney took a number of liberal political positions while running for governor of Massachusetts, and then while governor, he stuck to them. In other words, he kept his word to the people of Massachusetts. Now, while running for President of the United States, Romney has taken a number of conservative political positions. Thus, if we are to believe the point of the article about Mr. Romney's consistency, we can expect him to stick to his conservative positions while serving as President, too. In other words, judging from his record as govenor, we can expect him to keep his word to the people of the United States.

Sounds like a win-win situation to me.

All the defenders of Mitt here...
... fail to refute a single fact mentioned by Jackson.

Mitt a "Real" or a "Phoney" Mormon?
"Romney troubled by Mormonism's polygamous past"

(Retuers, May 10, 2007)

Boston, USA - Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney said his Mormon religious faith's history of polygamy could trouble American voters but that he too is bothered by it.

…said in an interview to be broadcast on Sunday that the practice banned by the Mormon church in 1890 was "awful."

"That's part of the history of the church's past that I understand is troubling to people," he said……………

……And I must admit, I can't imagine anything more awful than polygamy," he said.

…Romney, 60, who has previously called polygamy "bizarre,"

Fact: Polygamy exists still as a major “Heavenly” belief of the Mormons TODAY.

Fact: The original Joseph Smith revelation on polygamy still exists as “scripture” in the Mormon religion and the “scripture” has never been repudiated by Mormon leadership. GO ASK THEM.

Fact: Mormons TODAY perform “plural” temple marriages for their male members who desire such a marriage if their “earthly” wife has passed away and they have found a 2nd, 3rd or 4th (with the requirement that all previous wives are no longer living) wife for temple marriage ceremonies.

I might vote for the guy. I just want him to OWN ALL OF HIS RELIGION and come clean that POLYGAMY IS A HEAVENLY MORMON BELIEF AND IS PART OF HIS CHURCH DOCTRINE.

D&C Section 132 Verse 61
Section 132 D&C
THE
DOCTRINE AND COVENANTS
OF THE CHURCH OF JESUS CHRIST OF LATTER-DAY SAINTS
SECTION 132

Revelation given through Joseph Smith the Prophet, at Nauvoo, Illinois, recorded July 12, 1843, relating to the new and everlasting covenant, including the eternity of the marriage covenant, as also plurality of wives. HC 5: 501-507. Although the revelation was recorded in 1843, it is evident from the historical records that the doctrines and principles involved in this revelation had been known by the Prophet since 1831.

58-66, Laws governing the plurality of wives are set forth.

61 And again, as pertaining to the law of the priesthood-if any man espouse a virgin, and desire to espouse aanother, and the first give her consent, and if he espouse the second, and they are virgins, and have vowed to no other man, then is he justified; he cannot commit adultery for they are given unto him; for he cannot commit adultery with that that belongeth unto him and to no one else.

(The Official Scriptures of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints)

"odd tenets of the Mormon religion"
Polygamy was officially suspended by the President of the church in 1890, twenty-eight years after polygamy was declared illegal by the U.S. government, and thirteen years after a U.S. court had ruled that polygamous marriages were not valid (Wallace 368). Ann Eliza Webb had filed for divorce from Brigham Young in 1873, forcing the government to take a stand on the continuing practice of polygamy. The court ruled that she could not receive a divorce, since she was never legally married (Snowden 287).

The church has since become militant about preventing polygamy; anyone found practicing it is immediately excommunicated, and those who preach it are ostracized (Johnson 76). However, polygamy is still in practice in the church, just in a less obvious form. If a woman's husband dies, she may, after a suitable mourning period, marry another man as long as she marries him "for time", or only until death. After death, she will be brought into heaven to be with her first and true husband for eternity. However, if a man's wife dies, he may marry again celestially, thus providing for himself a polygamous family in heaven. The government may be able to thwart the holy practice of polygamy on earth, but they can do nothing about it in heaven.

"Agreed! Better to let a "lib” like billary have it, rather than any RINO!"

Are you INSANE???????????

Or are you a DNC plant, paid to split the Republican party?

If Hillary Clinton were a full-blown conservative, I would not vote for her. She's by far the most disgusting human being to run for President in my lifetime, the least honest, and the most dangerous; give the government to her, and we'll soon be Cuba.

By contrast, even if Rudy is a liberal (he's nothing remotely close to that), he at least kept spending and crime in check in New York, no mean feat.

Please, don't flush western civilization down the tubes just because you're sick of not getting your way on election day. That's a snit fit to beat all 3-year-olds. I'm sure you're more mature than that.

Mitt is VERY Mormon. He donated 3 years of his life to a self-financed volunteer mission in France. He then donated hours and hours serving as a Bishop (leader of a congregation) and then a Stake President (leader of other Bishops), both unpaid. He is as Mormon as they come. Whether that hurts or helps him in your mind, it at least speaks to his commitment to his beliefs, and throws a monkey-wrench into the flip-flop label. People with not moral conviction just don't do what he has done.

Size Matters Not
The size of the cult determines the truth of it's dogma?

Good one Hawk!
You sure gave Grumpy Ole fart what for. ‘Cause everyone knows that ignorance and frying go hand in hand. And don’t get me started on double-wides. Ex-Governor Running For President
It's difficult to recall any state governor or ex-governor who actually had the support of their own state when they ran for President. They've always made enemies who lash out when the opportunity presents itself.

As far as flip-flopping, name any of the first tier candidates that haven't done some. They all do.

They're all politicians - if their lips are moving, the odds are that they're lying.

Mitt's Healthcare
Regardless of what Mitt's health plan did in Massachusetts - Mitt has openly stated that the healthcare plan that is part of his presidential campaign is a noteworthy improvement.

https://www.mittromney.com/Issue-Watch/Health_Care

Why don't you read the current plan instead of trying to stick it to him that his MA health plan (which required come concessions and compromises to get it through the liberal Massachusetts legislature) is Hillary Care.

The willful ignorance of Americans never ceases to amaze me.

Logically possible that it's both?
Hawk chided some Grumpy Old person with: "The LDS church you refer to as a "lunatic cult" is (according to the yearbook of American and Canadian Churches from 2004 forward) is the 4th largest Christian denomination in America."

What, you don't think it's possible for the 4th largest Christian denomination to be a "lunatic cult?"

Historically, that's not a bad description. You should read the history of the Mormons before the turn of the 20th century.

Hey, the segment of Islam that thinks suicide bombing of civilian targets is an appropriate way to defend Islam against the US dwarfs LDS, having at least as many adherents as the entire Eastern Orthodox Church (the 2nd largest Christian denomination in the world.)

Apparently the number of adherents doesn't prevent a group from being "lunatic." The only question is whether, with that many adherents, you can actually call it a "cult." It's debatable, but not impossible, given the simple fact that that LDS is not theologically orthodox, denying, as it does, several central tenets of the Christian faith.

I find it hard to take seriously anyone who finds it too much trouble to capitalize the first letter at the beginning of a sentence.

I know all lower case is suppose to be chic on the Internet, but I find it just plain annoying.

The Romney Question
I don’t know this Jackson guy from spit, but I do know this. Even if Jackson is wrong, it doesn’t necessarily mean Romney is right. I don’t follow Massachusetts politics on a daily basis, but I know the people there prefer politicians like Teddy “Chappaquiddick” Kennedy and Barney “my gay boyfriend ran a prostitution ring from my house” Frank. That being said, before any mentally cognizant conservative would spend even one second contemplating voting for a former governor from that state, that ex-governor better have his you-know-what wired real tight when it comes to his conservative political bona fides. Mitt Romney does not.

To the contrary, we are presented with a record that, to the extent that it reflects an ideological bias at all, is liberal. The purported conservative part comes strictly in verbal (read: non-action) format. To accept that Romney is the real conservative deal, we have to look past what he has done in a place that is very inhospitable to conservative ideals, and take him at his word that he is now Ronald Reagan incarnate.

Believe me, given that I am implacably opposed to Guiliani, and will not vote for him under any circumstances, I would love nothing more than for Romney’s claimed Damascus Road conversion to be true. But I am not, and will not, be made a fool out of misplaced wishful thinking. Romney has a big hill to climb with this conservative, and frankly I don’t think he is going to make it.

To my fellow conservatives, I say, let’s move on to the next candidate on the try-out list.

article rebuttals..
in a short post such as the ones we all leave following these kinds of post are for the most part ineffective. to truly understand why something occurred, one has to understand the issues, environment and timing behind each event. i, like many of you, don't have the time or the monetary interest to sit down and describe the complete picture in massachusetts. if we did, we'd be lucky enough to be writing the articles and mr. jackson would not. anyone who has followed mr. jackson realizes that he hated romney even before he sat at the governer's desk. what else can be source of such distortions in these articles. the big dig? romney's fault? romney was producing millions of dollars of capital at that time creating the likes of staples, dominos, etc. when the big dig commenced. jackson alludes to it as being romney's brain-child. so romney was somehow to prevent the tragedy of the falling ceiling tile is omniscient powers, just like bush should have stopped planes from hitting the world trade center? both nightmares, were set in motion long before they took office. gay marriage was secretly thrust upon mass. by romney? with that thinking, bush secretly brought us terrorism, because after all he was in office when the worst terrorist attack hit us.
mr. jackson wants us all to believe in these anemic conspiracies of his based on what, mr. jackson's great influence. so that means we'd have to believe that conservative stalwarts like paul weyrich, wayne grudem, jim bopp, mark demoss, jay sekulow, sen demint, etc., have all had their well-documented intellects swindled by the cunning mitt romney.
who again are you mr. jackson?

Romney Secrets
This hit piece belongs in The Star, The Globe or The National Enquirer, not a serious political site like Townhall.com. It's poorly written and childish, much like the radio hosts we suspect.

My two cents
I lived in Mass when Dukakis was there and people in Mass did not like him but the media and Dems made him their king for a day. I am in CA now and it's good to hear what locals think about Mitt (and would be good to hear about the others as well) since we do not get the true story out here. I have been wondering about him and this article helps.

I am still stunned Gore couldn't win Tenn. If that wasn't the loudest and clearest indicator about him I don't know what is.

Bottom line is I still believe Hillary will be our next pres - Heaven help us - and we will not have the opportunity to get the best candidate to run against her. The media will control that.

Gregg, Mitt Romney's no RINO

How many RINOs do you know who do things like this:

Mitt Romney vetoed the bill providing state funding for human embryonic stem cell research

He vetoed a bill that provided for the "morning after pill" without a prescription because it is an abortifacient and would have been available to minors without parental notification and consent

He vetoed legislation which would have redefined Massachusetts longstanding definition of the beginning of human life from fertilization to implantation

Governor Romney strongly supported a successful ballot initiative that replaced the state's bilingual program with English immersion. (Romney Vows to Protect English Immersion Law, May 1, 2003)

Governor Romney demonstrated his commitment to school-choice by vetoing a bill that would have canceled funding for Massachusetts' charter-school program. (Romney to Veto Charter School Moratorium, June 23, 2004)

He supported parental notification laws and opposed efforts to weaken parental involvement

He fought to promote abstinence education in public school classrooms with a program offered by faith-based Boston group Healthy Futures to middle school students.

In the four balanced budgets he signed into law, Governor Romney used the line-item veto or program reduction power to cut spending by nearly $1 Billion.

Over the course of four budgets, Governor Romney made over 300 line-item reductions, 350 line-item eliminations and struck language 150 times

Gov. Romney was instrumental in passing a bill abolishing a retroactive capital gains tax in the state that would have forced nearly 50,000 taxpayers to pay an additional $200 million in state taxes and fees

From inside Mitt HQ...
"...Tagg, how do ya work this thing??? Don't we pay people to do this? What time is my manicure? I have a tanning appt this afternoon...dammit!!! Holy Misleading Batman!
This is perhaps the most deliberately misleading article I've ever read. It's sad that Mr. Jackson apparently sees enough ignorance in his readers to convince him that this kind of hate, slander, and obvious misrepresentation of the truth will help him advance his personal agenda. Let's hope he's wrong. Some of the comments sadly suggests that he isn't.

Additionally, Townhall should be ashamed of its role in publishing this kind of bile. It discredits the forum and is a blackeye on the organization.

Romney's Record
Having lived in "The People's Democratic Socialist Republic" fro 20 odd years I've learned that the most impotent creature on the planet is the "Republican Governor of Massachusetts". To say that Romney shares blame for the Mass Homosexual Marriage Laws is silly. It was done by Liberal Judicial fiat with the tacit approval of the State Legislature. The same Legislature thta has ignored the publics attempts to over turn the decree. As Governor Romney was able to do what ever the Legislature would allow and nothing else.
As to our current Governor, Coupe DeVille Patrick, he is the perfect example of Liberals efforts to relieve their white guilt by electing the most non threatening Black man they coud find. Massachusetts politics are beyond anything I've ever seen anywhere. It is an example of what happens when one party and one ideology has absolute total control over every aspect of public, and increasingly private, life.
We wil see a functional democracy in Baghdad several generations before we ever see one in Boston.

Mr Romney
You left one out. What about the Gay Adoption Law. Although not from your state, I personally wrote him begging for a "conscience exemption" for Catholic Charities--it did not happen. He could care less about faith values.

The Real Truth About Mitt Romney
TH'ers,

First of all, there are many outright falsehoods, misleading statements and omitted facts in the article. It was terribly written at best.

However, that being said...

I lived in Massachusetts for most of my life. I was a pro-gun activist in the Bay State for decades and Mitt Romney could not be counted on to support the Bill of Rights.

The following web page can be counted on as being accurate. It even has video clips from Romney's debates with Ted Kennedy (D-MA) when he was seeking Kennedy's seat in the U.S. Senate.

http://www.massresistance.org/romney/

I was there, I fought against Romney on many issues myself. On reading his campaign website and listening to him on the issues today, I would say without hesitation that Romney has flip-flopped on issues much more than Senator Kerry did.

I was there. I know of which I speak. I have to sit and laugh at all the Romney supporters have not personally have interaction with him while he was governor. I only read a few of the above posts, but it seems like many posters don't know what they're talking about.

I'm not voting for him, because he was my own governor and I don't trust him.

Anyone who knows anything at all about Massachusetts politics -- for that matter anyone who has ever been to Massachusetts -- knows this column is nothing but distortions. Give Me A Break!
Note the Conspiracy Alert in the very title of the article, and the defensive comments about how the author doesn't want to be thought of as a bigot. Why mention that if you're right about what you say? Note the use of key words and phrases like "seemed to" and manipulative statements like, "you don't get elected in the most liberal state in the country by being conservative." That is a lie, especially when Mr. Jackson contrdicts himself by saying, "When he was elected, Massachusetts had a Republican governor for nearly two decades. When he left, it didn't." Does that mean that the previous two decades of republican governors weren't conservative becuase they got elected in the most liberal state in the country? Here's a thought... you can't write peices for the Boston Globe, and participate in the Boston meida without bowing to the liberal decrees of the Bostonian liberal media.

These accusations have been brought up time and time again and refuted and proven false time and time again. How many more times will these desparate attempts to slime Romney come up? His years as governor are transparent. There was no conspiracy and secret plan to hide behind Mormonism. Medved is right when he says that people turn to conspiracy theories when they can't face the truth.

You can trust what the other radio hosts have said about him because they have a larger listening audience, they are more professional, AND they more credible than this guy. Think about this, all these people who disagree with Gregg Jackson... look at these names... Michael Medved, Laura Ingraham, Hugh Hewitt, Glenn Beck, Bill Bennett... do you recognize these names? Have you ever heard of Gregg Jackson? How do you know that Gregg Jackson is as credible as the others I've mentioned? Perhaps Jackson just thinks you're all idiots and will beleive anything sensational.

Slick
Gotta love good ol' Slick Romney.

Bigotry
Blue Piper; You must be a liberal because you are the one who is screaming bigotry. You speak in total ingnorance concerning a religion and a man that you don't even know. It would seem, in your book that the end justifies the means.

Jackson 0-2
One only had to note the ratio of falsehoods, exaggerations and distortions to the truth in Jackson's last hit piece on Romney to know that he was unlikely to produce anything remotely approaching an objective analysis in this piece. Aside from the patently laughable attempts to pin the Big Dig fiasco on Mitt and to blame him for the overwhelmingly Democrat legislature's constant veto overrides that undermined his many conservative attempts at governing, it was the curious conspiracy of the big media Jackson alludes to that was the most bizzaire claim. The national MSM usually have a nominated chosen one on both sides of the political isle. The Republican annointed one usually gets more negative scrutiny and less fawning coverage than the annointed Democrat. Hillary's mask is now being stripped away and the media are retreating from their inevitability meme with her but Rudi is still their darling as they obsess about his lead in the meaningless national polls. Mitt gets cursory 2nd string coverage at best and very very little is mentioned in the press about his LDS faith. If Jackson's conspiracy theory had any validity you would see local media reportage in the frontline states (that is normally less slanted) reporting Romney constantly rasing his faith as the smokescreen Jackson claims it is. If he were to review one week's worth of IA, NH, SC and FL local media coverage on Romney you will find virtually no reporting of Romney or his campaign deliberately raising his religion.

This piece was pure unadulterated hack job. Fortunately his attempts to distort Romney's religion had no effect on Romney's rise in the polls and so this distortion of his record as MA Governor will suffer the same fate. The committed anti-Mitt posters here will have their 15 minutes but everyone else has rightly pinged Jackson for his disengenuous attack job.

May I point out:
Huckabee: says he will secure borders, but is for amnesty by having them pay a fine?
McCain: help author the McQuack Finemegold bill
Fred: (broke my heart) help author this same bill
So as I see it there are only two true conservatives left to chose from!
Hunter and Tancredo!

What a hack and a bigot. This guy is an obvious mormon hater and would love to burn Mitt at the stake.

Just Curious?
If the woman killed in the big-dig were illegal, does Mitt get any points on illegal immigration for taking her out?

Mitt Romney What is he about?
I sometimes feel one should be heard on such a subject. I wonder what religion the fellows are who prepared the article on Mr. Romney? Could they possibly be Evangelical Christians? There is one thing that is so obvious in our American Political System at all levels and that is that there is no shortage of liars. I wonder if there is an honest politican or an honest pundunt or an honest individual who professes to be a Christian if he believes that the end justifies the means, in other words is it acceptable to lie (a gross sin) if one can accomplish good by so doing? If a person is against another because of their religion isn't that a bit Hypocritical ? Didn't the Savior teach a totally different attitude toward one's neighbor, his neigbor being any one he comes in contact with, who also dwells on this earth. The greatest man to ever walk the earth was, according to the evangelicals, Jesus Christ and I wonder how He would fare in an election in the United States if the evangelicals were against his campaign promises, Promises that were detrimental to their personal and collective agenda? what a wonderful world this would be if integrity was an integral part of society. There are just two individuals I would vote for among the Republicans and they are the former governor of Arkansas and the former governor of Mass. I won't reveal which I shall vote for in the primary, but it will be one of those fellows. Neither are totally perfect but they are the very best of the bunch. Fred Barrett

The problem with Romney
Is not that he is a Mormon. As best as I can tell, he is Mormon the way Rudy Guiliani and John Kerry are Catholic. Which is to say, not very. I have known many Mormon’s and none of them wrestle with the “moral flexibility” exhibited by Romney. If you know anything about Mormonism, you know they are all about family in general, and increasing the size of them in particular. Utah is one of the few states in this country that has an increasing native-born birth rate. There is no place in Mormonism for people who drift in and out of certainty over such a fundamental issue for them as abortion. Which naturally leads one to wonder – just how forthright is Mitt about his true beliefs, intentions, and even promises? If he is all over the place with his purported religious belief systems, might he not also be all over the place with his political belief systems as well? The evidence suggests that he is.

What we do know is that a) you don’t get elected governor of one of this nation’s most liberal states by swearing allegiance to the creed of Reagan; and b) he has admitted to and demonstrated his previous commitments to pro-abortion, anti-gun and other liberal policies. We are now being asked to accept on faith, in effect, that he has now repudiated his previous liberal views, because there is no track record of conservative action. And so we are left only with the words of someone who seems to frequently change his mind about what he truly believes.

In order to accept Romney’s claims to born-again conservatism, one has to accept the honesty and integrity of the man issuing such claims. As far as I am concerned, Mitt has not yet met the burden of reasonable proof. While it is possible for someone to cross over from the dark side (politically speaking), before I throw him a vote bone I want to see some tangible evidence that he is over to stay. Otherwise, it is all just self-serving talk.

Good lord, what a load!
Wow,

As an ardent Mitt supporter, little did I know that he is actually the Devil Incarnate.

Here is my response to this BS-laden spin:

1. NH - Romney +15
2. Iowa - Romney +16
3. SC - Romney +6

The funniest part about this whole article, and there are many funny parts, is the concept that the Media is in the tank for Romney!

Lol, I can't go one day without reading 15 articles with negative spin about Romney compared to maybe 1 article that praises him.

And when Romney SURGED in the lastest polls in Iowa and NH, how much Media Coverage did THAT get? Answer - none.

I'm no English major ...
but I'm sick of hearing the word "co-conspirator". The word conspire automatically implies that others are involved, there is no need for the prefix "co". You see, one cannot conspire with one's self. Sorry to nitpick but we all have our pet peeves.

If the choice were between him and
Hillary, only a moron would have to even think twice about whom to vote for.

Romney was governor of the most Communist state in the nation...perhaps the world. 80% of their state congress and 100% of their federal congressional delegation are card-carrying Communists. Communist incumbents in Massachusetts have not lost a re-election bid since 1994.

In short, who is actually surprised that the state continues its path of mimicing the Soviet Union? The Queen of England has far more power...in MASSACHUSETTS...than the governor does.

Ouch!
Looks like some of Multi-Choice-Mitt's blind sheep are upset when the media protection is skirted. There is nothing new here. Most of America know this guy is liberal and just like Hillary, says whatever it takes to get himself elected. Must be something in the water in Massachusetts, all the politicians from that state seem to be flip floppers. Fred Thompson is the only true conservative in the race.

Just like Rudy saying he'll nominate strict constructionist. He didn't as mayor? So why would or should we believe him?

The field continues to narrow for conservatives.
Huckabee, Thompson, McCain, Hunter, Tancredo.

That's really all the real conservatives in the race.

Didn't have to read it...
to know that this was just going to be another one of Jackson's hit pieces against Romney. Mr. Jackson must think his readers are stupid. This piece is an insult to our intelligence.

EVERYONE knows that Governor Romney was facing a stacked deck in Mass with that loaded bunch of Democrats. He did what he could and more. He made a difference and has improved anything he touches. It is utopian that ANY president can clean up Washington but he will make improvements and do no harm. A major player in the pro-life movement in Mass. is supporting Mitt Romney, giving him an award. He fought gay marriage and is supporting an amendment to fight it still. He likes vetoes and will not be a tax and spender. Much of his life has been devoted to service without pay. We need Mitt Romney more than ever now as our President.

GO MITT!

With Mitt, it's Dukakis all over again
For those of us who actually live in Massachusetts, we're experiencing deja vu.

Back when Dukakis ran for President in 1988, he was also trying to reinvent himself as something he wasn't. We Massachusetts conservatives knew better. But because Massachusetts is regarded as so far out of the mainstream by you folks in the Red States, you folks don't listen to us when we try to warn you about guys like Dukakis.

That's why a guy like Dukakis or Mitt Romney can run for national office and run away from their Massachusetts record. The folks in Massachusetts can see the hypocrisy. But nobody in the heartland of America cares about our opinion.

The truth is available about Romney
For anyone who really cares - you can find the truth about these allegations quite easily. You will find that they are distortions, at best. They do not reflect the real record of Governor Romney at all.

It really is a 2 man race now. If you don't want to elect a man who is for;

gay marriage
gun control
abortion
amnesty
sanctuary cities

then you will not cast your vote for Fred, Huck, or McCain.

This Man
Got a 7% rating from the ACLU. That in and of itself is a good reason to vote for him, but he has NEVER wafted on border security. NOT ONCE! An as I believe this is the single most important issue we face today because of things like this- http://www.corruptionchronicles.com/2007/09/_islamic_terro rists_arrested_a.html
I will vote Hunter (he also gets my money NOT the RNC) and if he does not get the Nom and RP runs independent, I will vote for him. His forgein policy sucks, but at least he will also secure our border! Unlike the RINO peso george.
Truth is, people can change their minds, but how do we know for sure they changed their hearts at the same time?
P.S. Who ever posted the "on the issues" link Thank You!

Butt The Mutt
Egregiously ambitious unknown governors are not to be trusted. That goes double for a smarmy, leering snake oil vendor like Mutt Romney (and let's not forget to say the same for Huckster-Bee, the other ugly liberal from Hope!). There is not one conservative thing in this guy's record, as the above column indicates. Are we going to fall for a slick ad campaign and a set of glowing teeth? Why not just vote for Hillary? He's been stalking New Hampshire promising to waste more money on Federal Jobs Retraining programs, one of the biggest boondoggles in the War On Poverty panoply. He has nothing in his wretched little soul but ambition and he will walk across the aisle and betray us to the libs on Jan 20, 2009 if he manages to slither his way into the White House. And that goes double for Huckster-Bee.

Is Mitt Morphing into Bill?
Even if all the defenses of Romney are true, one thing comes across very clearly: He was ultimately ineffective in the most liberal state in the Union. Reagan raised a clear banner and tackled the issues in a frontal assault and won on many of them. Romney seems to be a politician, who, like a golfer, wants to know which way the wind is blowing before he makes a decision. I hate to say it but Romney, thanks to his charisma and looks, sans the sex perversity, reminds me of...dare I say it?...Bill Clinton.
