Poll
Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

Nadya Suleman, the mother of the octuplets, is being resoundingly criticized all over the country for basically having children she can’t afford. I know of no one who says they support her decision, for obvious reasons: unmarried, unemployed, bankrupt, living on welfare and homeless. She and her six kids are living with her parents in a little three-bedroom home, three of the kids have “special needs” that require money from the state, and they’re poor enough to qualify for food stamps.

She says she simply wanted more children because she grew up as an only child and she didn’t want her six children growing up without sufficient siblings. So, she gathers the money she had saved from her disability claim against the state from a few years ago and finds a fertility doctor willing to implant the rest of the embryos she created with her long-time boyfriend that gave her the previous six children. She says she implanted the six remaining embryos, two of them split into twins, and she gave birth to the longest-surviving octuplets in American history on January 26.

You know the story.

But, here’s the question: Who are we to criticize her when—at least in some respects—we’ve been doing the same thing for so long?

We, too, are having children we can’t afford. We’re getting benefits from the government that we didn’t pay for. We make decisions every day to do things we know we won’t be able to afford, all the while assuming that someone else will pay for it.

In many respects, we’ve become a nation of Nadya Sulemans. Who are we to tell her, “No! You can’t do that”?

Think of all the Americans who aren’t paying their own way, their “fair share”—who can’t afford the children they now have, who still choose to have more, and who rely upon someone else to feed, clothe, house, educate and provide medical care for them.

We’re an incredibly compassionate, generous and caring people—especially for those who, through no fault of their own, are thrust into unfortunate situations where they need our collective help. Widows, orphans, the disabled, those with illnesses and injuries that make it nearly impossible for them to care for themselves.

But something is wrong, very wrong, when we’re growing so many citizens who don’t even try to pay their own way, who willfully choose to take limited resources away from deserving others, and who live in such a way that they just assume it’s someone else’s responsibility to take care of them.

What ever happened to “If you don’t work, you don’t eat?” And, “Thou shalt not steal?”

Nadya Suleman is a woman who could not qualify as a foster parent, let alone an adoptive parent, and she was allowed to bring eight more children into the world, for a total of fourteen she cannot possibly care for properly. In my opinion, this is theft and child endangerment.

My heart breaks for the future of her fourteen children.

And my heart breaks for the future of America. Over half of all wage earners pay no federal income tax yet they, too, are assuming someone else is going to pay their way. In this respect, they’re like Nadya Suleman.

As Alexander Tytler allegedly wrote in 1787:

A democracy is always temporary in nature; it simply cannot exist as a permanent form of government. A democracy will continue to exist up until the time that voters discover that they can vote themselves generous gifts from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates who promise the most benefits from the public treasury, with the result that every democracy will finally collapse due to loose fiscal policy, which is always followed by a dictatorship…The average age of the world's greatest civilizations from the beginning of history, has been about 200 years. During those 200 years, those nations always progressed through the following sequence: from bondage to spiritual faith; from spiritual faith to great courage; from courage to liberty; from liberty to abundance; from abundance to complacency; from complacency to apathy; from apathy to dependence; and then from dependence back into bondage.

As a nation we look like we’re well down that path to dependence. Clearly, we are a looking to big government to meet more and more of our needs. Let’s pray we change course before we kill the goose that lays golden eggs.

sue the doctor
The fertility doctor needs to pay to take care of these eight children. He enabled this weird pregnancy to happen. Otherwise it could not have occurred without a man. If the state has to provide any support to these children, then the state should sue for paternity and child support. Maybe the fertility doctors will think twice in the future.

Cape Conservative
The answer to your questions about why the doctor in question would do such a thing is one word. Money. She saved up her disability payments and monthly payments for her "disabled" children to pay for more children. He saw the dollar signs, and did his job. A bit too well, in the opinions of those of us who really paid the bill. In my opinion, one of the reasons for the mental health community working to expand the definition of autism was specifically for the purpose of expanding payments from the state for "disabled" children. Maybe we could all become disabled, then the state could pay EVERYONE! Yaayyy!

continued
The doctor and clinic should be held financially responsible for the care of these eight babies! I am not a California resident, but if I was, I'd be really ticked off to think I had to support a kook like this!

We have to return to a system that focuses on GOOD VALUES and PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY! It is LONG OVERDUE!!!!

I would like to see all children in her care taken by the California children's services and allow them to be put out for adoption. WITH NO visitation from this woman. She needs to be put in a mental institution and kept away from any and all children!

There are FAR TOO MANY avenues to explore in this case and I hope that California will begin at square 1 and not stop until they have uncovered the entire deception - by both the woman and the medical clinic/doctor. My guess is they will find she has been ripping off both welfare and Social Security Disability - IT IS TIME TO PAY THE PIPER, WOMAN! Life is not just a free ride at the expense of others!

I would like to know how a fertility
doctor would impregnate a woman who WAS ON DISABILITY!!! Multiple birthing would certainly tax one's body, you would think, thereby necessitating a person being in GOOD HEALTH!
Why were there NO psychological tests made??

Why would he implant embryos in a woman who had THREE children DISABLED?

I have read many stories about welfare recipients making sure they got their children classifed as disabled to BRING IN MORE MONEY!!! She made more a month being a negligent mother than I did working 40 hours a week as a secretary!!!

This woman is a CROOK, PLAIN & SIMPLE and I hope she receives ZERO $$

Well said.

"In many respects, we’ve become a nation of Nadya Sulemans."

Good Point! We are constantly encouraged to become as self-serving as the baby popper-outer...

two more applicable quotations
from questionable sources:

I've seen this one attributed to S Hunter Thompson: "The Romans had bread and circuses; we have welfare and the World Wrestling Foundation. The difference is in the technology."

And this, which has been attributed to Everett Dirksen: "You can't legislate against stupidity." (Although we seem to try on a daily basis.)

More Internet legend. Just cause we like the sentiment, doesn't mean we shouldn't attempt to verify.

JDs Handsome Son & Homeschool Mom AZ
(continued from above)
Just wanted to mention that we may be down but we're not "out".

Both my husband and I are learning to run an internet business and promoting a book to try to salvage public schools, and rescue them from the liberalist agenda that is brainwashing our nation's children.

I applaud Homeschool Mom for protecting her children from the "dumb-down pablum" that is being spoon-fed to our nation's youth.

The Department of Education's agenda is to build a nation of non-critical thinking, brainwashed followers. Unfortunately, they have been spectacularly successful. Witness the enormous numbers of young people (graduates and drop-outs alike) who voted for the holy BO.

JDs Handsome Son
Always love to read your comments.

I have worked (really worked) since I was 8 years old and my husband (the slacker) started at the ripe old age of 12.

Now that we're oldsters, and both disabled physically, we will protect all that we worked so hard for, for so many years.

And the MSM is worried about the increased sale of arms and ammunition. Well they should be.

We too are armed to the teeth and will defend our home and our lives. Any home invaders who think they have found an 'easy mark' in these two "helpless" old timers will be very surprised if they try to "share the wealth".

My motto is "the best revenge is living well".

Right on! Right to the point!
Excellent comment!

We pay no taxes
Or at least very few, outside of FICA, social security, and the like. My husband's in the Navy - enlisted - and I work from home. But here's the thing: I hate getting tax rebates just because we have kids. I think it is wrong. We file for it, of course, because it is there and if we don't file for it, things are skewed further against us -- just as happened in the housing market when anyone could get a loan. But I wish it was not there. I'd rather have a true free market, an equal playing field. How come there's no one out there promoting my views?

"Conservatives" who love their socialism
Pastore wrote:

"...who rely upon someone else to feed, clothe, house, EDUCATE and provide medical care for them."
==============================================
Is this a conservative at TH suggesting public education is an example of welfare or does he mean government funds for college tuition?

Careful Pastore, lots of people think they are conservatives while they insist they are entitled to the taxpayers giving their kids an education at on average $10,000 per year K-12.

When you tell them they should not have children they cannot afford to educate privately (in private institutions or at home) they'll go on an on about how it's an unrealistic expectation for anyone who isn't rich. (Even though millions of Americans who aren't rich do it all the time.)

Consistent conservative thought? I don't know. That's a scary thing.

The government promotes
Irresponsibility and laziness with their socialist welfare handout programs. So in turn the government robs honest hard working tax paying citizens to pay for their BS. We went to the polls in November and we voted the biggest tax soaking socialist jerks into office and now we are getting the biggest government theft spending bill from the idiots the American people voted into office. America please wake up and stop voting in dumocrats, stop listening to the MSM, stop buying the pathetic BS of the dumocrats and demand our government stop taking our money for their irresponsibility, please.

Every government politician and worker who either voted for or supported the government rip off bill, should work for no salary, give up ALL of their retirement, give up every perk they get off the american people, no free transportation, no free airplane rides, dinners, health care, nothing, to try to pay for their BS bill!!!

Best Served Cold
We will have our revenge, folks. It's tough to endure all the gloating and insults from the left, but we will see them get what's coming to them.

Anyone with a 6th grade education and who's had to balance a check book knows what's going to happen to this economy. We got into all this financial mess by over-borrowing and over-spending. Those bright boys in D.C. tell us that the best way out of it is to. . . . spend and borrow ten times the rate at which we had been.

And they think we're the dummies.

None of you leftist pukes try to beat us over the head with George Bush. He's as much to blame. He's the reason many of us didn't turn out for McCain. Unlike you, we honor our principles. We blame our own who foul up.

But the joke's on Obama voters, the youth votes, the beggars and looters who begged him for housing and cars in Florida the other day. They are the bottom feeders who will be hardest hit.

And we can't wait until they're out in the streets burning down their own houses and breaking the windows of stores in their communities because the money spigot's been turned off.

It will be fun to watch.

What's that you communists say? You'll come after us?

Good! We are anxious for you to stray into our neighborhoods. Have you seen the news? We're armed up. We've got the guns and the ammo. We've got the training. We are eager to see you in our yards so we can tell if whether a 5.56 or a 7.62 opens your heads better.

Hurry, Hurry!

Pathetic
This sorry state of affairs has come about because of the acceptance of unwed child-bearing, the ease of obtaining food stamps and other entitlements, and the general expansion of the welfare state. The people who live in this manner are basically enslaved to the government, devoid of pride and a sense of accomplishment. If one watched the pathetic sad sacks in Florida yesterday requesting kitchens, better jobs, and more unemployment pay, it is easy to identify the group that is in the sights of liberals. All of these welfare payments need to be stopped and there should be no further subsidy of the inept, unmotivated, or lazy. Look what a mess the liberals have made of this country. Nadya Sulemans needs to provide totally for her children or have them removed from her care; additionally, she should be sterilized. This is pathetic.

We've been cultivating Nadyas...
...in earnest for the past 40 years. People are seeing the mess created by great society ideology and policies and mistake it for the failing of capitalism. We now have a nation ripe for the plucking of the corrupt and ambitious, and jealousy along with junk "science" have become virtuous. I will hate being poor, because now it accompanied by masses of entitled, ruthless people both in positions of power and powerlessness- which means it is also dangerous. This means gang activity is excellerating in the inner cities among the "powerless", and the ability to gain upward mobility and autonomy is being stripped from the hard working and industrious by the government incessant sucking maw.

What you see in our inner cities, such as Flint, Mi., Southside Chicago, Newark, NJ, DC, etc... is the direct result of Obama style policies. Very well funded increased poverty, more "need" than 30 years ago, crime, community deterioration, corruption, you name it.

This is not going to be fun, guys.

"What do you mean, 'we', pale face?"
Frank Pastore, I'm surprised at you. What do you mean, "We, too, are having children we can’t afford. We’re getting benefits from the government that we didn’t pay for. We make decisions every day to do things we know we won’t be able to afford, all the while assuming that someone else will pay for it."

I am certainly not having any children I can't pay for; the paltry unemployment I occasionally received I have paid back in taxes over the 35+ years I have been employed. I NEVER contemplate receiving Social Security as I sincerely believe that Ponzi scheme will be bankrupt LONG before I am ever eligible for it.

I suspect most conservatives are like me. So SHAME on you for coming to a conservative Web site and lump conservatives into a "we" which epitomizes the apex of liberalism.

Re: A Nation of Nadya Sulemans?
"You cannot legislate the poor into freedom by legislating the wealthy out of freedom. What one person receives without working for, another person must work for without receiving.

The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else. When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them, and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for, that my dear friend, is about the end of any nation. You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it."

Dr. Adrian Rogers

Blame people and churches
There was a time in America, and not so very long ago, that the Church was the go to guy for assistance for the needy. Then came the 1960's and all of the love fests and drug fests and protests of Viet Nam, followed by an ever expanding government.

Illegitimacy was taboo, so was divorce. Now we celebrate when 16 year old Jamie Lynn Spears pops a baby out of wedlock.

We have allowed this to happen by not judging the sin (not sinner, sin), turning a blind eye to bad behavior, and lately making excuses and justifying said bad behavior.

The churches have cheat sheets that they now use to direct you to Government Assistance programs and offices instead of running their own food pantries and shelters for the homeless and downtrodden.

And now we have an 850 billion pound gorilla in the room which will only make indentured servants out of the working stiffs (me) to prop up the lazy and immoral.

Come Jesus, Come!

Nuff said

A good time for the Sheeple ...
Oh, Frank, you are so benighted and cruel. Most Americans are ninnies and sheeple, doncha know? They need the guidance of the special, educated elite in all aspects of their lives, at all times.

Now, we have a whole gaggle of compassionate Harvard grads running the show, with a person of color leading the parade! It's going to be a great time to be a sheeple.

Ironic, isn't it ?
That the greatest nation ever created, America, whose inspiration to the world was that of "Freedom", will soon be destroyed by our "inalienable right" to "free" stuff.

When will Obama tell welfare recipients
... "there will be a time to have more children, but not now."

Or how about

"Buying steak and lobster with your food stamps is not just bad taste, it's bad policy, and I won't allow it."

I could go on and on. Seems like the only people with restrictions on the money they receive from the feds are those who HAVE jobs, and MAKE something.

Everyone else can do what they want.

Daschle still runs HHS, clandestinely 2

The health care industry is the largest employer in the U.S. It produces almost t 17% of the nation's gross domestic product. No failure there. Yet the Socialist-Democrat Party bill treats health care the way European governments do: as a cost problem instead of a growth industry.

They would rape the health care industry of its profitability, in order to fund their Socialist agenda. Simple as that.

This "stimulus" is dangerous to your health and the economy.

This "stimulus" bill will affect every part of health care, from medical and nursing education, to how patients are treated and how much hospitals get paid. The bill allocates more funding for this bureaucracy than for the Army, Navy, Marines, and Air Force combined (90-92, 174-177, 181 H.R.1 EH, pdf version).

It is clear that this plan came right out of Tom Daschle's book and that he will be rewarded handsomely by for his part in this clandestine takeover of one of the few profitable industries left in America.

This coup is not being instituted with the best interest of you and me [as Obama dupes and welfare slaves are wont to believe], it is part of the Socialist-Democrat Party's attempt to put a stranglehold on the American people's ability to offer any resistance, whatsoever, to the elites, like Daschle and his limousine providers, Reid, Pelosi, Frank, Obama, et al, who will be the only ones to profit off the labors of those who they enslave. And those who have already willingly consigned themselves to that fate. The Obamanation.

Daschle still runs HHS, clandestinely 1

The "stimulus" bill is a Trojan Horse filled with Socialist governance programs that would never pass the smell test were they not sneaked into a fiasco of much bally-hooed impending doom being propagandized upon an ignorant and panic-driven bunch of Obamamaniacs.

According to an article written by Betsy McCaughey Feb.9 (Bloomberg):

"The bill's rules (H.R. 1 EH) will affect "every individual in the United States" (445,454,479). Your medical treatments will be tracked
electronically by a federal system.

But the bill goes farther. One new bureaucracy, the National Coordinator of Health Information
Technology, will monitor treatments to make sure your doctor is doing what the federal government deems appropriate and cost effective. The goal is to reduce costs and "guide" your doctor's decisions (442,446).

These provisions of the "stimulus" bill are virtually identical to what Daschle prescribed in his 2008 book, "Critical: What We Can Do About the Health-Care Crisis."

According to Daschle, doctors have to give up autonomy and "learn to operate less like solo practitioners."

The goal, Daschle's book explained, is to slow the development and use of new medications and technologies because they are driving up costs.

He praises Europeans for being more willing to accept "hopeless diagnoses" and "forego experimental treatments," and he chastises Americans for expecting too much from the health-care system.

allowed?
While I agree Ms. Suleman and her litter are ridiculous, who has the right to forbid her to have them? At least they can pay for her social security:) By the way, the Tytler quote is definitely not his: http://lorencollins.net/tytler.html

Nadya Suleman
Mr. Pastore, scary but terrific article. Great analogy to Nadya Suleman. We have become a nation of people with her exact mindset.

It sounds like Alexander Tytler had a crystal ball that foresaw the downfall of America. It's heartbreaking to see it coming to fruition.
