Are You Ready for Carbon Rationing?

Poll
Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

Frank Pastore interviews Cal Beisner of the Cornwall Alliance about rational and irrational policies aimed at helping the poor and the environment.

Pastore: I started driving in the early ’70s. I remember the gas lines. The odd and even days on your license plate determining when you can get gas and waiting 20 or 30 cars deep to put gas in my little, ugly Pinto, my first car. I can remember that. And then of course I read Winston Churchill and they were talking about the rationing during World War II that lasted, by the way, years after World War II—and it’s awful. You don’t want rationing. But yet in Britain, now, they are proposing this idea of having a carbon rationing card. You get this much, like a credit card and every year you get credited with so many carbon credits and then you spend these on gasoline, airline tickets, electricity, natural gas. And so you have got to make the decision—do I drive the car out to visit the kids or do I have my air conditioning at night so I’m not sweating bullets? Do we go to church on Sundays or do we—you know….

These are all big governments, central government types that are leading the environmental movements. Cal, this rationing thing scares me. How about you?

Beisner: It’s not by accident that rationism and fascism sound so much alike. Fascism is all about government control of people’s lives. It’s about centralizing everything. It’s about planning by government and that’s exactly what is going on when you’ve got rationing by government law rather than rationing by the market. When the market rations it uses prices to signal where goods and services are most needed and where they are most demanded by people—it responds to peoples own free choices.

Government rationing doesn’t do that at all. Government rationing decides in advance where the resources are going to go and then it says to people, “You get in line—you tow the line or you’re just out of it bud.” This is called fascism. It’s not politically correct to tell it that way, but that’s exactly what it is.

Pastore: Well the way they spin it in mainstream media, it’s corporations and the big polluters—big oil, big pharmacy, big auto—that are going to get nailed with this tax and rationing.

Beisner: Nonsense, because the corporations always have to meet all their costs including taxes and license fees and everything else. They’ve got to meet all their costs, and you know how they do that? They charge for their goods and services, big surprise. So you know consumers, ordinary people, pay all the costs. So it’s not just going to be the corporations that get hit. The corporations will pass all the costs on to you and me.

Pastore: I want to make sure people understand that we’re not talking about chemicals in the water, dirty air, throwing trash out the window when you’re driving….

Beisner: Rather irresponsible things.

Pastore: …there are policies out there that are nutty that don’t do anything to address the situation.

Beisner: One of the clearest examples that we’ve seen recently is the food riots that have started up around the world. The prices of basic staple foods, the various grains have more than doubled in a single year. Now for you and me, in a rich country, where we spend an average of about 15 percent of our annual budget on food, you bring up the price of food by say 10 percent or something like that—after ironing it out to all the other kinds of foods. That means we go from 15 percent of our budget to 16.5 percent.

But in very poor countries a lot of people spend 75 percent of their budgets on basic food stuffs. You double the price of those and you starve people. That’s exactly what happened. That’s the kind of short-sightedness that is behind so many of the policies being pushed to fight global warming. It came on basically because of the desire to try to turn corn into ethanol to reduce our CO2 emissions. Now, even that was short sighted because as it turns out, when you count all our CO2 that gets emitted in the process of planting and raising and harvesting and transporting and refining the corn, the burning it through your car—that puts just as much CO2 into the atmosphere as drilling for oil and refining that and burning that through your car.

Pastore: I read something about the percentage of man-created CO2 is minimal to the…

Beisner: Yes, my word it’s very, very small…

Pastore: But you get the idea that CO2 is this toxic chemical that you have to put a HazMat suit on to get around.

Beisner:  CO2 is most definitely not a toxic chemical.  CO2 is a chemical absolutely vital for life. If you didn’t have CO2 in your bloodstream you wouldn’t breathe because your autonomic nervous system responds to the level of CO2 in the bloodstream to cause you to breathe. So when that happens that’s when you take a breath. If you didn’t have enough CO2 you wouldn’t breathe. But plants have to have CO2 in order to grow. They take in  CO2. CO2 is for plants as oxygen is to us. They starve without it and the more CO2 you give them the better they grow. Which means CO2 is really a good thing.

Our planet has been basically starved for CO2 for the last several thousand years by comparison with the times when it was as its optimum when the earth was covered with lush vegetation.  CO2 is minimal now. We are just beginning to recover a little bit of that and the result of it is a great increase of plant growth around the world, a shrinking in deserts and an increase—most importantly—in agricultural crop yields which means more food and lower prices for food. So if we are pushing down CO2 we are pushing up the price of food. If we are pushing down CO2 by fighting the use of the cheapest energy sources—oil, coal, and natural gas—then we are also pushing up the prices of food that way as well. And that means we’re starving people.

Pastore: If you had say a hundred million dollars to invest in order to help the environment, help the world’s poor, how would you do it?

Beisner: Well, I don’t have to be the one to make that analysis myself because a group called the Copenhagen Consensus has done that repeatedly. Their most recent report came out just a couple of months ago. They said that if they had, actually they were asking if I had $70 billion, where would I put it? The number one place would be micro nutrient supplements for children—vitamin A and Zinc to fight malnutrition.

Pastore: Really?

Beisner: Number two would be the Doha round of the World Free Trade Development Agenda. That is the expansion of free trade. Because free trade leads to economic development and that’s what the poor need more then anything else. And you know where global warming mitigation efforts fell?

Pastore: Probably number three.

Beisner: [Laughing] No, 29 and 30 out of 30.

Pastore: Really?

Beisner: They’re terrible. They cost more than the benefits that can be projected coming from them. They are a total waste. Not only by themselves but more importantly also because they rob money from these other actions that would be more helpful. If you spent $250 billion trying to fight CO2 emission you can’t spend that same money on micronutrients supplements for children. As a result more children die….

This was not just a group of smart guys. This was eight world class economists. Five of whom are Noble Prize economists. Reading papers by scores of experts on the various different policy options looked at. Many, many, policy options—far more than 30—and they narrowed it down to 30 and global warming mitigation falls at the bottom.

Start with putting Gore on a diet
That will save some carbon in food and when his planes and limo fleet cart his fat butt around.

These peple are not serious
Anytime I see someone using the term “fascist” or “Fascism” I know that they are not serious in their discussion. I don’t think we need to worry about rationing here as it will never happen.

The Congress is really not worried about AGW or globull warming. They know that it is a scam and that there is no such thing. If it were a real problem we would actually be screaming for a worldwide bad on fossil fuels from everyone including us.

The objective of Congress is two-fold:

First get reelected until death do us apart and second to advance socialism and communism. They will use this scheme for reelection via the influence peddling scam in tax and trade. They will advance socialism through the “tax” portion.

CO2 will march right along unabated.

Vic -- get serious
The one thing neither Pastore nor the interviewee elaborated on is corporate participation in carbon rationing. If you believe that the government is acting alone when formulating methods for dealing with "global warming" and carbon credit trading, you have a lot to learn. The global warming agenda is almost entirely fascist-socialist in origin and intent. As with most environmenetalism, it's about establishing who makes money and who pays under specific conditions and restrictions. And it's the greatest fraud in modern human history.

Get familiar with the how's and why's of the World Bank and it'll all make sense.

Here's a better idea
http://sayanythingblog.com/entry/offsetting_the_carbon_offs ets/

Vic,
"I don’t think we need to worry about rationing here as it will never happen."

Vic, we ALREADY HAD rationing in this country. Gas lines in the 70's were largely the result of the gov't suppressing the price people could charge for gas. I remember those even-odd gas days as the authors here do.

You may not be old even to remember those days. I don't want to go back to them.

Great options.
But McCain wants it. I guess that's why real conservatives support McCain over Obama.

Real conservatives don't support either one. They support conservtives.

I totally agree
with Buckelew!

"As with most environmenetalism, it's about establishing who makes money and who pays under specific conditions and restrictions. And it's the greatest fraud in modern human history."

Well said, fellow patriot.....it cannot be made any CLEARER than that!

I'm glad I'm not the only one
using the "fascism" word. What we are going through today is a reorganizing of how the world works to concentrate power around the ruling elites of each country. That these people pool their investments in hedge funds like Carlisle Group goes far to explain why our elites don't care about defending our constitution or national sovereignty. Does anyone think it is a good idea for the Bush, Gore and Kennedy familty wealth to be pooled with the sovereign wealth funds (stolen loot from non-democratic countries)?

Ticket to Totalitarianism
I remember odd-even days, too. And "malaise." Anybody ever notice that all of the REAL economic downturns we've had since the 1960's were accompanied by shortages &/or hi price$ for energy?

I'm glad to see others are starting to pick up on what I've been saying for years: the Anthrogenic CO2 Induced Climate Change (ICO2ICC) dogma is all about giving government an excuse to _ration_ energy, & by that means grow to totalitarianism. "Cap & Trade" in particular is RATIONING. The fact that one can sell one's ration tickets doesn't make it "free market." In any case, if the cap were actually set low enough to make any difference (even if that were possible) there'd be nothing left to trade. We'd freeze & starve.

But since it's bogus anyway, the "cap" can be arbitrarily set at the optimum level for maximum government control of our lives. We'd end up having to constantly ask "mother-may-I" just to go about our lives. ACO2ICC would be used as a means to force us to live in cities close to work, ride slow buses & only go where mass transit goes, be near-vegetarians, send our kids to the closest public school for indoctrination, & generally revert to a near Soviet std of living.

It's not about carbon dioxide; they can't even say what the optimum temperature or the optimum carbon dioxide concentration for the atmosphere is, so how can they say it's too much? It's about creating a rationale for controlling us.

Businesses get on board with it because if they get on the reservation they might get thrown a few carbon-credit bones. That was the angle Duke Power tried to play, & they got blown off.

Furthermore, the logic of ACO2ICC demands centralized worldwide government as well as totalitarianism. That's why the UN, which aspires to be the government of the world, is the big cheerleader for the ACO2ICC dogma.

Dystopian future
If the eco-Marxist, rationers have their way then our future most definitely will include obtaining permission to buy a vehicle and that will be granted based on multiple factors including your income, family size, distance required to travel to work, etc. And if you live far from work you will be interrogated as to why you don't live near public transportation. I can also see permission being required to buy a home larger than a predetermined size gain based on family size, marital status, income, etc.
If you don't think this is possible then keep in mind the CA plan to remotely control thermostats and extrapolate from there.
These control freaks will control everyhting if allowed to.

As A Carbon Based Life Form

I feel threatened by all of these people who want to eliminate carbon.

In addition to this, I would like to know what these radicals are made of?

Since many of them are from Hollywood, I suspect that some of them are partially silicon and collegen-based life forms.

I wonder how Nancy Pelosi would feel if she were told she had to reduce her collegen footprint?!!!

And then there is Jane Fonda and the impressive percentage of silicon in her body... What if she were told to reduce her silicon footprint.

And then there is Michael Jackson, whose nose (or lack thereof) may be a symptom of trying to reduce the amount of carbon in the world.

And what about Greenhouse gasses that emanate from these gas bags when they flap their lips, or when the vegans fail to take their bean-o?!

As a carbon-based life form, I feel that I need to point out these hypocracies for my own self preservation.

Why Can't We Get Anyone To Push This?
The narrative in the MSM and by all of the politicians is that CO2 is killing us. But the truth is that methane is far worse. Climate change is more than likely cyclical, and related to issues with sunspots (or lack thereof). So why are the "sheep" letting Obama and the left villainize the oil companies? Obama said today we would be off oil in 10 years. In the meantime, he wants to appropriate their windfall profits to pay for tax credits for alternative fuel vehicles. This will shut the oil companies down or move them overseas. How does that help? The only problem with oil is that we are too dependent on foreign oil. Oil in and of itself is not the problem.

Stop it Mountain Rose
That "collegen-based life forms" blast made me laugh so hard that I clenched my stomach and accidently vented my week's carbon quota into my office cubicle.

So a bunch of delusional Marxists of self-importance get together led by a pop-artist- has-been self importantate, for another chorus of "We are the World".

they label themselves "The Elders"....in one big game of circle jerk, that makes their members and conscience feel they are making an actual difference.

Kumbaya.

Buckelew/Liberty Guy
Of course I remember the gas lines and they had nothing to do with rationing, What they had to do with is price caps on gasoline which caused the oil companies to simply stop bringing it in. The gas lines were due to simple incompetency of both both Nixon and Carter, both of whom were socialists.

As for fscism there really is no such thing. it is a made up word from Musellini who preferred to use that word instead of communism.

As I said, we will have taxing and not rationing.

Communism
If we don't get our heads out of our ***** soon,we'll be living in the Communist State of America.Just stick around awhile, then say goodbye freedom.

Will: You're exactly right!!!

Marxist Obama is already advocating exactly that, and should he be elected (God forbid!) we'll be well on our way in less than a year!

This demo Congress refusing to allow domestic drilling is simply a pre-emptive first step toward controlling what we do and how we do it...

Fraud
This, carbon rationing/cap&trade, etc., is abolutely one of the greatest frauds ever perpetrated. It is the biggest income redistribution scheme in history.

Ostensibly, "From each according to his ability, to each according to his needs." Ultimately this fraud will result in the establishment of a two-tiered society in perpetuity; guess to which side you and yours are slated to be relegated?

Mr. Jefferson's words have never been so prescient.

Semper Fi

Article doesn't make sense
The Bush administration and republican congresses did not push through ethanol subsidies to make a dent in global warming.

They did it in the mistaken attempt to create another source of energy from corn and other agricultural products. Cheney and Bush don't care about global warming. They saw the current oil crisis years ago and hoped ethanol based fuel would do something to keep gas and heating oil prices low.

Maybe it worked to some extent and oil prices would be even higher if we were not using so much ethanol today.

If I have to pay Carbon Credits it's
coming out of some politicians hide...burn them at the stake and we'll see how much they like carbon!

It's Only Right
It makes sense for Americans to be controlled in this manner. By their own admission, coming this November, Americans can no longer manage their own lives. It is dangerous to allow over 300 million people freedom to harm the planet and the rest of the nations on Earth.

When they raise their arms in desperation to a guy with 143 days in the Senate, after having been a local polical hack and neighborhood agitator, Americans are proclaiming their voluntary servitude. They are saying that they forgo their rights and their freedoms for the promise of substandard, but safe and carefree, lifestyles. They want to be fed and clothed, their mortgages paid off, and they want free, but marginal health care.

They are agreeing to low horizons, that the prospect for grand things is too risky, they prefer to have guarantees even if they are rationed.

Obama and Pelosi and the other communists we've put in office rightfully must take charge. They are due all the trappings of power: corporate and military jets, high salaries and generous benefits, armed security and bullet proof limousines, all at our expense.

They can relax in Gulf Stream IIs on their way to exotic locales at others' expense while they tell us how many light bulbs we can have, when and where we can go places, and where we can live.

How else do you rule a nation of slaves?

DON'T FORGET
Increases in inflation is generally closely followed by increases in unemployment and crime. We'll probably see an increase in motorcycle related traffic accidents which will also increase health care costs and insurance too. The price increases of fuel ripple effects every other aspect of our lives. Perhaps that is why most wars are fought; over food or fuel. Pelosi needs to go the way of Daschle. Reid is basically a spineless Pelosi lap dog. Congress should do what the people of the USA want, and the last poll I heard was 70% want offshore drilling. If people actually believe the garbage spewing from Pelosi and BHO about years before oil is available, they need not vote because their low IQ should disqualify them. Drill for oil, harvest oil shale, increase natural gas availability, expand wind and solar, and especially expand nuclear energy!

quit bashing hippies
I'm an "aging hippie" and totally resent the aspersions being cast on us. Not all of us drank the kool aid! I'm voting for McCain because the Obamathon is seriously bent.

The truth is SO refreshing!
Thanks, Frank for conducting this interview.

I have relatives and friends who have swallowed the gorebull warming bulls!t hook, line and sinker. They are so friggin' gullible it simply boggles the mind.

I left Pelosi a message on her voicemail, telling her in no uncertain (but polite) terms that her insisting that she's "trying to save the planet" is sheer lunacy.

The hypocrisy of Al Gore and his ilk is beyond belief, but what's more unbelieveable are the folks who fall for this shiite!

Buckelew
is exactly right.

The whole global warming scam is just a way to ration energy.

“It is Kissinger’s belief, according to his aides, that by controlling food, one can control people, and by controlling energy, especially oil, one can control nations and their financial systems. By placing food and oil under international control along with the world’s monetary system, Kissinger is convinced a loosely knit world gov operating under the frame-work of the United Nations can become a reality before 1980” Paul Scott (in the 70’s)

They weren't successful then, but it looks like they will be succeeding with energy now. The world's monetary system is already a done deal. The Fed being a private banking cartel. We already have gov planned food shortages (ethanol).

And these control freaks
are hoping to scare the bejeezus out of the multitude in caving into their craven greedy lust for total power and control.

The question is: Will We The People go along and agree with this totalitarian "utopia" or will we stand up and say HELL NO!

It comes down to every single one of us asking ourselves what will I do if push comes to shove. I, for one, will tell them to go to hell.

What will you do?

Hey Vic
I have to agree with you. We are currently being governed by either State Socialism or a Marxist/Leninist government.
When over 70% of our population is polled and feels we need to drill for more oil, and our government ignores the people, I interpret this as "our government is a dictatorship".
SOCIALISM
"What is socialism? It is a politico-economic philosophy that believes government must direct all major economic decisions by command, and thus all the means of production for the greater good, however defined. There are three major divisions of socialism, all antagonistic to each other. One is democratic socialism, that places the emphasis on democratic means, but then government is a tool for improving welfare and equality. A second division is Marxist-Leninism, which based on a “scientific theory” of dialectical materialism, sees the necessity of a dictatorship (“of the proletariat”) to create a classless society and universal equality. Then, there is the third division, or state socialism. This is non or anti-Marxist dictatorship that aims at near absolute economic control for the purpose of economic development and national power, all construed to benefit the people".
R.J. Rummel
Professor Emeritus of Political Science

Previous to Harry and Nancy, the left were Democratic Socialist. However, when Harry and Nancy refused to allow a vote on drilling in he senate and house, that is when our country went to the dark side. These two are Socialist Dictators and we have got to get them out of office.

If you haven't read Atlas Shrugged, read it. If you have read it, read it again. The book was written in 1957 and boy does it hit home today.

Hey Frank Pastore
Truly a great Article. We need more from you.

Hey prpl (hippy guy)
Not all hippies are bad! :)

George Carlin
CARLIN: I'm tired of these self-righteous environmentalists, these white bourgeois liberals who think the only thing wrong with this country is there aren't enough bicycle paths, people trying to make the world safe for their Volvos. There is nothing wrong with the planet. Nothing wrong with the planet. The planet is fine. The people are (bleep) -- difference, difference. The planet is fine. Compared to the people, the planet is doing great. It's been here four and a half billion years. Did you ever think about the arithmetic? The planet has been here four and a half billion years. We've only been engaged in heavy industry for a little more than 200 years.
CARLIN: Two hundred years versus four and a half billion, and we have the conceit to think that somehow we're a threat, that somehow we're going to put in jeopardy this beautiful little blue-green ball that's just a-floatin' around the sun? The planet has been through a lot worse than us, been through all kinds of things worse than us, been through earthquakes, volcanoes, plate tectonics, continental drift, solar flares, sunspots, magnetic storms, the magnetic reversal of the poles, hundreds of thousands of years of bombardment by comets and asteroids and meteors, worldwide floods, tidal waves, worldwide fires, erosion, cosmic rays, recurring ice ages, and we think some plastic bags and some aluminum cans are going to make a difference? The planet isn't going anywhere. We are! We're going away.

Hey Mountain Rose
Please don't ever go away from TH. I don't know what we would do without your insightful input. You certainly have a way with words and thoughts.

Hey Anna
I'm still having problems with your thesis or conspiracy theory.
Your quote was:
“It is Kissinger’s belief, ACCORDING TO HIS AIDS, that by controlling food, one can control people, and by controlling energy, especially oil, one can control nations and their financial systems. By placing food and oil under international control along with the world’s monetary system, Kissinger is convinced a loosely knit world gov operating under the frame-work of the United Nations can become a reality before 1980” Paul Scott (in the 70’s)

Paul Scott had a lot of Anti Kissinger articles. It almost seemed to be a compulsion with him. I would like to see a verbatim statement from Kissinger regarding the above, not "ACCORDING TO HIS AIDS". This kind of reminds me of Bush lied and people died, but when you examine the history, it's just not true. I guarantee you that the Bush platitude will be around for a long time even though there is no evidence or truth to it.

Goodnight to one and all.
Please... Convince everyone you know that Anthropogenic Global Warming is a scam.
Also, read "Atlas Shrugged" by Ayn Rand. Great Fiction/Philosophical Novel about Capitalism vs Socialism.

for longreachone
What exactly are they saying CO2 will do to us? I haven't met a liberal yet who can answer this question.

OK here is your answer. C02 does two things that should concern you.
First it mixes with water and forms acid. Water plus C02 yields Carbonic acid. It is in the carbonated sodas you drink. There has been so much C02 released into the atmosphere it is mixing with ocean waters and turning the waters acidic. Acid waters are not good for the tiny plants and animals that make up the base of the food chain in the ocean. It eats away at their tiny shells, these organisms are microscopic. In other words this is a threat to all live in the seas.

The other issue that has been discussed and banged around Town Hall is that it traps heat and is changing earths climate. Global Climate change. There is plenty of evidence that our climate are changing. Australia in the subtropics, the area scientists say will be the first to experience climate change is having a H#ll of a time. See this website from a newspaper in australia. australian drought and wheat shortage

Finally someone with a brain!
That was a good read!

CO2 has as many good uses as bad, and it's only slightly more than 1% of our atmosphere.

So let's get some of that plant friendly gas out there so our forests can grow and continue to generate the oxygen we breathe!

It's nothing new... there's ALWAYS a 'chicken little crisis'.

In the 1970's our ozone layer was going to be completely depleted by 2010.

Really? Seems to be doing just fine to me.

Mtn Rose

I with you ! We need a movement to reduce the collagen-based life-forms to save Mother Earth !

Mountain Rose - Great post!
Thank you for your astute observations and comments. My favorite was about Michael Jackson and vegans. I am still laughing...

My only suggestion is that you warn everyone before reading your comments by issuing a "spew" alert.

Keep up the good work!

To 'Sandrob' About Carlin . . .
. . . that was what he said back in 1992. On his last special ("It's Bad for Ya") prior to his death, however, Carlin was repeating the mantra of the radical environmentalists about so-called "global warming." The very radical environmentalists whom he once mocked, as late as 2001 (when he referred to "upscale, yuppie-looking, Greenpeace environmentally-conscious a**h***s" and "Mr. and Mrs. Natural Fibers").

Fascism, in whatever
form, has always become ashes upon the garbage pile of history...it will be so with this lunacy as well....

@chicaree
A couple of questions for you -

1. You state the reasons you claim that CO2 is bad. However, according to the above article, as well as a couple of other things I've read, we're currently at less than previous maximums. If this is the case, then how come the same kinds of bad things didn't cause serious problems at those times? I'm not saying they didn't occur, but the world, and mankind with it, does seem to have come out all right in the end.

2. While I admit I have not read the articles you posted the urls for (I'll try to make the time later today to do so), both of those titles sound as though they could be referring to variations in seasonal levels. I fail to see how that feeds into what I perceive as your commentary direction.

FMO
I have read all of the post and only you understand "Cap and Trade" for what it is.A Fraud.Unfortunately, you don't understand what real fraud is.I just wanted to redirect your thinking.I could help, but I won't.

how ignorant are you people
oh no he said fascist so i completely disregard his statements categorically.
are you people that stoooopid. they were not floating the topic around just willy nilly, they were defining the term, explaining the parameters of the concept, they were not accusing an individual or group of people in a name calling fashion or a threat of doom and gloom. they were explaining and defining the concept. to trash their discussion because they used the term fascism is as ridiculous as calling me a racist for saying "you people" earlier in this text.
no wonder we are in such a mess today, we have too many pseudo intellectual people who think they know everything. back that up with too many gullible sheep.

ps global warming and co2 are still just a hoax scare tactic of socialists.

Beisner
I believe that Beisner was obfuscating in claiming that mitigation of Global Warming issues fell to 29 and 30.

According to the Copenhagen Consensus 2008 website, #14 is "R&D in low-carbon energy technologies" which is under the category of Global Warming. While in a strict sense one can argue that "R&D and Mitigation" is #29 and "Mitigation" is #30, the implication of #14 is the R&D of lowering our carbon output which is directed towards "Global Warming".

All in all, I appreciate the opportunity to read this article and comment on it. Keep up the good work.

Ender
The thing you have to remember about chickpea is that her knowledge of science, like most liberal eco-idiots, is the equivalent of the wavelength of a gamma ray; i.e. infinitely small (10E-6 nm).

The only thing she can do is repeat talking points from the eco-idiot front organizations.

Random thoughts
Al Gore has been mentioned as a possible Energy Czar in an Obama administration. He's currently making a fortune selling carbon offset credits to the gullible; no way that he would accept a government job and take the pay cut.
Co2 is .038% of the atmosphere; you will never hear a rational explanation of how this gas,in this concentration, causes our planet to warm.
People who speak of the 'greenhouse effect' are only telling half of the story. Greenhouses have a venting system that opens and closes to keep the desired internal temperature. It should be obvious that the earth has a similar mechanism or we would have ceased to exist long ago.
My two best selling bumper stickers: Celebrate CO2 and Celebrate Global Warming.

Vic, get serious
Fascism is opposed to both liberalism (ideally free society) and communism -- fascism is authoritarian and nationalist.

Neither true liberalism nor communism can support nationalism, while communism has very deep authoritarian roots. Fascism overlooks the contribution of the individual for the sake of corporate bodies and state bureaucracies -- a muddled form of socialism. Conversely, "successful" free and communist societies would depend upon individual initiative. Free societies are not necessarily encumbered by selfish motive, while communist societies are undone by selfish motive. This is what makes nationalized communism a miserable failure and an impossibility: The "community" is too large to ensure individual responsibility and sustained homogenous progress.

While Mussolini's ideas were awash with esoterics and big brother ideas, he despised communists. The NAZIs and fascists had a lot in common -- and we're having more in common with them every day, as we surrender our rights and sovereignty to elitists and leftists in both parties. That's why so many of them are hawking the global warming fraud.

Buckelew
Go back and read some history and anlysis by authors that were contemporous to the times.

Both Hitler and Mussilini were socilaist/communist but since they hated RUSSIANS and were intending on making war on Russia, they called their brand of socialism something else.

It is ALL the same product, just a different label.

I recommend Hayek as a good source, particularly this book.

http://www.press.uchicago.edu/presssite/metadata.epl?mode=s ynopsis&bookkey=206047

BTW
The call them Democrats in the 21st century in the U.S.

Oh yes
I'm quite familiar with Von Mises, Garret, Hayek, etc.

My comparisons below were in regards to societies in their puritanical forms which, obviously, we won't see in reality.

The Russians were not pure communists, as the US is not purely liberal. And Mussolini's and Hitler's ideologies were heavily abridged ideas. They did not liken themselves to communists.

tax reform
We the people pay all taxes, and we are the sole ultimate source of all tax revenue. Regardless where government initially collects the money, all tax money ultimately comes from us, the people, even though business has to pay thousands or millions of dollars at one time, and get it back from us one dollar at a time.
Since we the people are the one and only source of all tax revenue:
There should be only one tax to collect all tax revenue.
It should be a single, simple, fair, direct, graduated, individual, full-income tax levied on living persons for each level of government: One Tax and Done.
The best thing that government can do to help the country, the people, and even government, is to repeal all of the many hundreds, or thousands of existing taxes, fees, and charges. These taxes are the federal deficit. These taxes are the high price of everything. These tax eliminations are spending cuts. Every tax that is eliminated is a tax that we the people no longer have to pay. These taxes are the difference between the price we pay for health care and everything else, and the price we would pay if these taxes were repealed. Eliminating these taxes will remove them from the price paid for everything by everyone, including government.
One Tax and Done will provide many benefits to all, even government:
One Tax and Done will end government-caused recessions because governments would cut off their only source of tax revenue.
One Tax and Done will stop reductions in tax revenue because people reduced their use of water, sewage, and other governmental services.
One Tax and Done will reduce the price paid for everything by one-third.

Hey chickaree
You said:
"C02 does two things that should concern you.
First it mixes with water and forms acid. Water plus C02 yields Carbonic acid."
You went on to say the C02 was mixing with ocean waters and changing the pH.
I say:
Carbonic Acid H2CO3, is only formed in strongly acid solutions. The ocean waters are at a pH of 8+ (Alkaline).

The oceans take up 70% of the earth's surface and contain 98% of the earth's waters.
There is approx 228 trillion gallons of water in the oceans and the oceans are the largest carbon sink on our planet. Do you have any idea how ludicrous it is to say the tiny amount of C02 produced by mankind could be changing the pH of the oceans.

During the Early Cretaceous Periods, C02 was at 4,500 ppm, approximately 12 times the present C02 levels. The average Temperature at that time was 12-15 Degrees C (53.6 to 59 Degrees F).
How do you explain this?
How do you explain that the temperatures have gone down over the last ten years as C02 has gone up.

Show me or anyone else, proof that Anthropogenic Global Warming exist.
You are a denier of fact and a Lemming that follows and cannot claim independent thought.
You are like the Lemmings in Germany that chose to ignore the extermination of millions of people while their Fuhrer Adolf Hitler was informing them of his great deeds.
A portion of the trillions of dollars spent on the fraud of AGW could be spent helping undeveloped nations. People will starve and die from lack of medical assistance because of lemmings like you who pretend to know something about which there is no proof

I started out believing in AGW. After I saw reputable scientist like Dr.Roy Spencer, Dr. Lenzer, Dr. Bob Carter, Dr. Tom Segalstad and 31,000 other scientist ask where was the proof, I had to ask the same. As I investigated, I found it was all just a fraud being perpetrated in the name of Science and Climate Change.

There are none so blind as those who will not see.

chicaree on carbon dioxide
Chicaree, as the water in the oceans becomes warmer, it holds less carbon dioxide (or any other gas) than it can when it is colder. Thus, there is less carbon dioxide in the warmer water--which reduces the acidity of the water.

We need global warming
The reason that so much of this planet has had drought for so many centuries is that we’ve been in an ice age, and the water needed for normal condensation has been frozen into glaciers. Glaciers are frozen water needed as condensation for barren and frozen lands of this planet, causing drought and flooding. When glaciers melt, some water runs into the oceans. Some water thaws the ground below where the glacier was, and soaks into the ground. Some water evaporates into the upper atmosphere where it becomes normal rainfall for the whole world.

The heat of the sun, clean air, and the absence of cold from glaciers and sea ice will cause more water to be evaporated from the oceans, lakes, and rivers into the upper atmosphere than there presently is; and the winds will blow it evenly around the world, providing normal rainfall world-wide, even where there presently is drought, and barren and frozen land, preventing flooding.

The worldwide rainfall will cause long-dormant seeds in barren lands to sprout and grow into new plants: The best way to go green. The new plants will inhale carbon dioxide and exhale oxygen, which we breathe. There will be so many new plants, that we might have to increase the amount of carbon dioxide we generate, to provide enough for all of them

A glacier in Greenland is melting, returning the land to the way it was a millennium ago. Larger crop yields are already the result, and the codfish have returned. Put the UN there.

Snow fell before leaves, and a month before winter started. Parts of the country and the world have record low temperatures and record amounts of snow and ice. We’re entering another ice age. How soon will Greenland be frozen again and the codfish gone? We need global warming as soon as possible. We do not need Gorebull warring against us.

Sandrob--
Excellent!
As you say, there is none so blind as those who will not see. You can wonder why so many people who claim to be scientists ignore basic laws of physics and observed facts such as those you posted.

a Concerned American
I wasn't much of a Carlin fan until I watched those environmental videos. I guess he wised up at the end.

Hey chicaree! Where ar those "holes"
You told me that you were a scientist and that Dr. Evans article was "full of holes". You never did come back and say what any of those holes were.

Here are some more "Global Warming Deniers" for you:

Dr. Claude Allegre -- of the U.S. National Academy of Sciences and French Academy of Science -- who was among the first to sound the alarm on the dangers of global warming. His view now: "The cause of this climate change is unknown."

Dr. Edward Wegman -- former chairman of the Committee on Applied and Theoretical Statistics of the National Academy of Sciences -- who demolishes the famous "hockey stick" graph that launched the global warming panic.

Prof. Hendrik Tennekes -- director of research, Royal Netherlands Meteorological Institute -- who states "there exists no sound theoretical framework for climate predictability studies" used for global warming forecasts.

Dr. Antonino Zichichi -- one of the world's foremost physicists and former president of the European Physical Society -- who discovered nuclear antimatter and calls global warming models "incoherent and invalid."

Dr. Zbigniew Jaworowski -- world-renowned expert on the ancient ice cores used in climate research -- who says the United Nations "based its global-warming hypothesis on arbitrary assumptions and these assumptions, it is now clear, are false."

Prof. Tom V. Segalstad -- head of the Geological Museum, University of Oslo -- who says "most leading geologists" know the United Nations' views "of Earth processes are implausible."

Do you mean to tell me that they are all crazy?

chicaree, You can't possibly be serious!
You said: "C02 does two things that should concern you.
It eats away at their tiny shells,"

You've GOT TO BE KIDDING!

The ocean is LOADED with calcium carbonate which is chemically the same as "Tums for the Tummy"; BILLIONS of TONS of it. In fact the primary source of CO2 in our atmosphere is that which is released from limestone by volcanic heating as the limestone is subducted and melted.

The ocean is pretty thoroughly buffered against any increase in acidity. It's not exactly a fresh water lake, you know.

BTW, guess where all of that limestone originated? Most of that carbon came from CO2 in the Earths primordial atmosphere, the same place that ALL of our breathable oxygen came from. If it were not for CO2, we would have no oxygen.

In what area of science do you work?

Wally believe me it is true.
Wally believe me this is true and the scientists who discovered it were as astounded as you. The ocean is well buffered. It was early in 2006 (I think) when it was discovered on a NOAA cruise crossing the Pacific Typical of cruises they were taking many samples, including sea water samples. The acidity test was ran and came out acidic. They ran more test scratched their heads and rubbed their eyes and it kept coming out acidic. The next year they put out the word to all research cruises in all oceans to take samples and turn them into the NOAA Pacific Marine Environmental lab in Seattle. I attended a seminar given by the head of the lab that ran those samples. His and his assistants put in over 7000 hours analyzing all those samples. All the oceans are reading acidic. The depth of the acidity reaches to 1 meter as I recall from his talk. The only source they can come up with is the C02. Here is the PMEL WEBSITE on ocean acidity. http://www.pmel.noaa.gov/co2/OA/

I assume that there will be "oh this is made up data" just like the global warming stuff. But that is not how science work. There is no gain for anyone to fake this data they would continue with out their ocean cruises whether there is acidity or not. Why am I even having to explain these points? Scientists would be ostracized out of the scientific community if any data was faked.

Sandrob
Sorry to take so long to get back to you. I have a life outside of Town Hall believe it or now. I have to go back and sort out the information and will if I can find to day but I have a lot of work before 5:00

Someone asked what branch of science. I have an advanced degree in biology and worked for 35 years in a Marine Science Research facility and worked with ocean and fisheries researchers.

I won't forget but you may have moved on to other columns as it will take me some time to put it together. So hang on.

Hey Younger
You said:
"Thus, there is less carbon dioxide in the warmer water--which reduces the acidity of the water".
I say:
The ocean water is a base, you can't reduce the acidity if it's base, you reduce the alkalinity.
A little lesson in Basic Chemistry not Physics.

Regarding C02, There is an equilibrium between the "Acid" and "Carbonates" (Acidic Oxide). To say it contributes to a lowering of the pH of the ocean water ignores this equilibrium. In fact C02 contributes more carbonate to the oceans, buffering any acidifying effect.
You were right when you informed chicaree regarding warm water releasing more C02. I'm not sure your point was, I guess it sounded good.
Just a couple of points and a couple of observations.

You said:
"You can wonder why so many people who claim to be scientists ignore basic laws of physics and observed facts such as those you posted".

What I see here are platitudes. What observed facts are you talking about? Are you referring Hockey Stick graph submitted by Michael Mann and accepted by Scientist and reviewed by Science Magazines as true facts. It only eliminated the Little Ice Age so as to reflect the temperatures he needed to prove Global Warming. That was a good one!
Oh, wait a minute, you must be referring to the scientific facts Benjamin Santer left out of the IPCC Assessment Report. You know, the facts submitted by reputable scientist working for the IPCC that concluded there was insufficient evidence to say that man is contributing to global warming or climate change.
Or, could the facts you mentioned be the temperature charts submitted by Wei-Chyung Wang, where it was proven he falsified facts by reporting temperatures from stations that did not exist? There are numerous other facts I would like to share with you but I have a limitation on the size of this post so I will conclude by saying:

There are none so blind as those who will not see. :) LOL

chicaree, I find that very interesting
What was the Ph, if I may ask, and over how many years have scientists been taking Ph samples in open ocean? Is it possible thaat this has been going on forever and only discovered due to calm weather conditions?

The fact that the low Ph only extends about one meter deep makes me think that this is more a matter of stratification than of any substantial change in the overall Ph of the ocean.

We have known for years that the ocean is the primary sink for CO2 and that most of the O2 released back into the atmosphere is as a result of alge in oceanic surface waters. Also, even though the ocean is loaded with limestone, limestone does want to sink to the bottom, I'm told.

frustration
I can't relocate those articles I promised to comment on. Will someone put them up again for me.

as to C02....".However, according to the above article, as well as a couple of other things I've read, we're currently at less than previous maximums."
Answ. Yes there were some eras that had more C02 in ancient times.
and the world was a totally different place than now and depend on for our livelyhoods. At that time there was not 6 billion people walking the planet depending on rich areas of farm land to support them. If we don't drastically reduce C02 the heating will change ecosystems that we depend on. Maybe we can adapt but if we are fretting about high gas prices how think about moving huge populations of people around. . For example.... The mid west may turn into a desert. The Southwest is supposed to run out of water. It depends mightily on the Colorado River for its water. No snow on the Rockies no water in the Colorado. How do you provide water for Phoenix and the millions of other people who live in the South West. PLEASE PLEASE read the Australia website to see what is happening down there. Sign up for the Google Alert on the Australian drought. Its one grim newspaper article after another.
Australia http://www.thetrumpet.com/index.php?q=5378.0.107.0

chicaree, Another question re: position
The primary contribution to CO2 is from volcanic activity. Hawaii is only the surface manifestation of a 6,000 KM system of oceanic volcanic activity.

What was the position of the samples taken relative to the oceanic ridge. It seems to me that could have a profound effect.

wally
I'll explain it, as the guy who was in charge of the sample analysis said in his seminar, as I am not a chemist. The water is 30% more acidic than it was at before the industrial revolution. It has changed by tenths of a degree and I don't understand chemistry well enough to explain how he arrived at the 30% change. They first are concerned about organisms with calcium shells as the acid eats away at the calcium. This includes Corals, Coccolithophores, (a type of plankton) Pteropods that are a tiny organism that is the main diet of juvenile salmon when they first hit the ocean. They have enough research now to know that it erodes the cell walls of non calcium planktonic organisms as well.

Corals are being slammed anyway as warm waters causes coral bleaching. Bleaching is when the corals expel the microscopic plants that live in their tissues. Those plants provide part of their nourishment. If the warm water conditions exists long enough the corals die from starvation. I have a photo of the Great Barrier Reef after an episode of coral bleaching that has large spots of white corals exposed stretching for miles. A coral reef area off shore of Florida was totally wiped out by a warm water episode. It is just dead zone now where it once was lush and full of life.

Those kinds of things are happening all over the planet. I find it very disturbing.

Cover Blown
Hey chicaree
I simply can't believe you have a degree in anything other than maybe a Liberal Arts Degree. Or, maybe your still in High School. Who knows? Your grammar is atrocious (no offense), it's almost as bad as Michelle Obama's grammar in her Thesis.
To say the oceans are acidic is comparable to saying the sky is falling. This is where you blew your cover. I honestly believe you are totally insane or you are just having a lot of fun with your play acting.
For what it is worth, I have enjoyed toying with you as you were toying with me. But, consider your cover blown. Hey, If you send me the address of your asylum, I'll send you some candy sometime.

LOL :)

Volcanoes
Good point. volcanoes release large amounts of C02. Here is information from another seminar this time, again from a PMEL researcher researching deep sea volcanoes. He was giving the results of their cruise to the Mariana's Island area. In that area there are many undersea volcanoes. These guy are very excited when they catch one in the act of erupting and they did on that cruise. He showed underwater videos of the eruption and bubbles coming out through the water. His comment this is PURE C02. then his next point is that I can almost quote this one from memory "we just don't know enough about these under water volcanoes to factor data in to climate change computer models. We have a good handle now on the C02 from the atmosphere and the amount dissolving into ocean waters. But we have not the manpower or funding to fully explore these undersea volcanoes and a good means of monitoring them. If we get a series of big underwater eruptions that could tip the balance of C02 way beyond what our climate change research can define at this point in time. In other words, they would have to throw out all their prediction and ramp them up to acomodate big underwater eruptions. I know your question how do we know the C02 in the water is not from the volcanoes. Answer it is on the floor not the surface and mixing takes some time.

Since that seminar they have been in the Antarctic using underwater hyrophones listening to the sounds of the ice sounds breaking up. they are using every means at their disposal to unravel all that is happening.Thats the other area of concern, they didn't think the antarctic would be much affected by climate change but it is much to their surprise melting away in big chunk. ON one side only however. I can't analysis that Antarctic trip yet as I've missed some of those presentations. But it is fascinating work they are doing.

I think i caught all my typing errors this time.

sandrob
I know I know my typing is terrible. Sorry bout that but the rest is true believe it or not.

chicaree,
"read the Australia website to see what is happening down there."

Well, for one thing they just had the first snow storm in Sidney in about 180 years!

I understnad that your take as a biologist is not the same as that of a physicist. Nevertheless, I think that you are being an alarmist with regard to climate.

Weather has never been entirely pridictable nor has climate change or ocean currents. Climate change is a fact; it always has been and always will be. The fact that climate is changing does not necessarily mean that it is changing for the worse. It will probably be for the worse in some areas and for the better in others. Either way, I have seen no credible evidence that WE are causing the change.

Much has been said about loss of ice at the north pole but little has been said about the coresponding increase of sea ice around Antarctica. Furthermore, no one seems to know why.

I stand on the premise that a CO2 level of 500ppm would be preferable to the present 380ppm and that the atmosphere is basically starved of CO2 due to the vast amounts of carbon sequestered in limestone, coal beds and oceanic sediments.

Furthermore, whereas CO2 is the primary greenhouse gas at the poles, especially in the winter, it is a very minor greenhouse gas at mid latitudes where most of the insolation occurs. Water vapor is, of course, much more important at those latitudes because it is about thirty times more abundant.

"acidification" of the ocean is another
line of BS from the climate change idiots and their their scam. When you see the term "acidification" used you have to know it is BS because we are talking about a slight change in the value of the pH by a few tenths of a point over sevral hundred years. Just like we talk about the atmospheric temperature changing a a few tenths of a degree over several hundred years.

Given the climate change people's past record of falisfying data and omitting key elements in their reports I have no faith in any of this cr*p.

IN addition, I have no faith in how they derive the pH of the ocean in 1700 down to thousanths of a point. I really don't have much faith in deriving it to that level TODAY. If you have ever seen a laboratory chemist creating a buffering solution for calibrating a pH meter you would know what I am talking about.

And by the way, the way they come up with 30% is by using the fact that pH is like the hurrican and earhtquake intensity scale. It is logarithmic. So a change from 8 to 7 would be a decrease by a factor of 10.

And finally, the term "acidification" is a scam because if they were to express the true term it would be less basic or "moving closer to neutral" which is less emotional.

Hey Wally
She said:

"in his seminar, as I am not a chemist. The water is 30% more acidic than it was at before the industrial revolution. It has changed by tenths of a degree and I don't understand chemistry well enough to explain how he arrived at the 30% change."

Between 1751 and 1994 surface ocean pH is estimated to have decreased from approximately 8.179 to 8.104 (a change of -0.075). 243 years.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ocean_acidification

pH decrease of about 0.025 over 15 years. Per Dr. RICHARD A. FEELY, Ph.D.

http://www.noaanews.noaa.gov/stories2006/s2606.htm

pH decrease of about .11 since the Industrial Revolution. pH average of about about 8.21 to 8.10 RICHARD A. FEELY, Ph.D.

http://www.legislative.noaa.gov/Testimony/Feely060508.pdf

When you see dates like the Industrial Revolution or 1750, remember, the pH scale was not even developed until 1909 by Soren Sorenson.
He was the Scientist that came up with measuring Hydrogen Ions. Prior to that they would add (drop method) an amount of acid to a particular solution and observe the reaction.
Not a reliable or accurate method.

I think chicaree might be another "Robert" aka Ranger29

Global Warming/Carbon Dioxide explained
Here's an easy-to-read synopsis I find helpful, ultimately from a mathematician/"scientist" who was front-and-center in the global warming formulation. Explained are global warming, carbon dioxide, historical observations (science). Public policy is also questioned in simplest terms:

http://joannenova.com.au/globalwarming/scepticshandbook1-1. pdf

Global Warming skeptics handbook
I don't know why I keep doing this, maybe I enjoy banging my head against a wall. And I will ignore you name calling! I read the Skeptics hand book.

The No sign of greenhouse signature and the hand book discusses in lenght how the hot trophosphere has not been found. The models did predict a hotter trophoshere and scientists were perplexed when it didn't show on their readings. But then they found an equipment glitch and the high altitudes were hot in line with their computer models.

As to the comment about the ice core data showing that the warming occurred before the C02 levels rose. They (scientists) have identified various causes of climate change over the past eons, from sun's cycles to massive volcanic eruptions. It is true that C02 built up after the warming, lets say it was the sun's fluctuations, the oceans warmed and warmer waters hold less C02 and it was released into the air, forests dried and burned releasing C02 etc. But as it has been explained by the scientists, that I associate and papers I have read.. the C02 has built up at such unprecedented rates due to our burning of fossils fuels this warming is is happening differently.

From skeptics handbook "Satellites circling the planet twice a day show that the world has not warmed since 2001". Where did that data come from. From the UK Meterological office. report released in 2007 The last 11 years are the hottest on record. Washington post. 2006 is the hottest year on record according to the National Climatic Data Center
Australian Bureau of Meterology, 2006 the hottest year on record.

I think the Skeptics are lying.

Thanks Sandrob!
I wondered but want to give the benifit of the doubt insofar as credentials are concerned.

The fact that chicaree claims to be a biologist is hardly impressive with regard to understanding the physical sciences involved in the global warming debate.

chicaree, WE live in the "troposphere"
Ten KM above the tropics (32,000 ft) would be about the right height for the Tropopause (it varies) and I suspect that is what they are looking for when they say 10 KM. The Tropopause is very easy to find and above that is the stratosphere where temperature changes are very slight.

It seems clear that they know what they are looking for, and it just plain isn't there.

The Bible says something about people who will "strain at a gnat, but swallow a camel".

I think that those who are still obsessing about AGW are "swallowing the camel".

chickpea
There are three groups of these measured temperatures with only one from NASA showing and increase. Furthermore, the amount of increase we have is within the uncertanty factor of the measurements and the calculations that are used to "normalize" the temperatures. In fact, these calculations have been shownto have significant errors in the past.

And the CO2 increase has been PROOVED to come after the temp increase, unlike the AGW lies that omit data, falsify data, and rely on gigo computer models for their main impact.

Also, the UN Panerl of Politicians has openly admitted now that THERE never was a consensus of scientists agreeing to their work. They maintain that all they said was their work had been reviewed and the press misquoted them. hahahaha

No, AGW is a scam and most reputible climatologists and geologists say that. Only the ignorent liberals and the crooks like Albore are still touting this scam.

OK OK
I stand corrected. Strastosphere- trophosphere. The upper levels is what i was shooting for. But now i have lost credibility.. HUH.

Concensus is difficult to arrive at, scientists are a contrary lot. That is why the iPCC report is pretty conservative, and that is the case when it it has to be developed by a committee. there are many that are telling us warming is happening much more rapidly than predicted such as the north pole having a 50-50 chance of being ice free by the end of this summer. Comeon you guys think about that!

We will see as this plays out over time.

Did any body take the time to follow up on that remark about there not being any warming in the last decade. Do a google search, it screams about the last 20 years having the hottest on record. I read your web links, you should read mine. .

Time to go
Goodnight all

chicaree
First, you'd be more believable if you wrote in Englist comparable to a college-educated person. I do realize that science majors don't really need to know proper grammer to get a job, but you must have at least been required to take a few courses in the English department.

Also, I have a cousin who is a biologist and he says it sounds like you're taking this off someone's website, that you really don't understand what it is you're writing. He points out that, as a biology major, he was required to study chemistry, a basic of which is that ocean water is alkaline, not acid. He says that it would take a truly significant event to change the ph from alkaline to acid. The ocean is a pretty big body of water and it is very salty.

So, I'm going to go with Brian and say you're probably not what you're claiming to be and, at best, that marine biology stuff was as a lab assistant feeding the seals.

Chickaree, SURPRISE!!!
Even NASA had to revise their data re: warmest year.

It was NOT 2006, it was not 1998

IT WAS 1934!

Doesn't help the AGW theory a whole lot, does it?

Re: Arctic sea ice

Decline in arctic sea ice is thought to have more to do with oceanic currants than temp. in the arctic due to the fact that the winter of 2007-2008 was unusually cold but it didn't help the sea ice coverage much. Also, Antarctic sea ice has increased over all, by a similar amount.

Face it, Chicaree
As more or less pointed out by Pastore and Beisner, the contemporary global warming context (AGW) actually has almost nothing to do with science. If the argument was valid and there really was a problem, an arbitrary cut in industrial carbon emissions would occur; then corporations and governments would lose revenue and market control as consumers found more local, more primitive (if not more finite) methods for meeting their energy requirements.

Mankind is at the cusp of wonderful advances in technology, just as he was at the dawn of the industrial age. Many things we take for granted were offered in a multitude of variations and competition usually eliminated the non-viable without government intervention. Sadly, the consumer is increasingly forced to subsidize the non-viable by writ of law, and the origin of force is fascist (public-private partnerships, government mandates, etc).

The AGW agenda is lead by corporations (large oil and energy companies, bankers, emission credit (carbon rations) brokers and lobbyists, etc) and governments for the sake of profit and power. The intention is to force-please consumers into paying for energy alternatives offered by condition and restriction, ensuring wealth and power for those who are making the rules (fascism). Hence the reason Albert Gore doesn't want to include consumer participation in carbon credit trading other than as a resource. Hence the reason oil companies exploit the ethanol mandate to develop to hydrogen carrier infrastructure.

The only fact about AGW is that those controlling the energy game plan will get richer and more powerful by writ of law. Only a naïve fool would believe it’s about the climate or about the weather. It’s really about sucking the money and sovereignty out of your life.
