A Question of Strategy for Pro-Lifers

Poll
Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

Dear National Right to Life, why do you oppose this strategy? Millions of us pro-lifers would love to know.

What Muise and his supporters want is for a state to pass a Human Life Amendment and the litigation eventually be taken up by the Supreme Court. He believes the Supremes wouldn’t rule on the personhood question itself, but would rather remand it back to the states for them to decide the personhood question for themselves. This is the federalism the nation was cheated of when SCOTUS wrongly passed Roe.

Right now, leading the way towards the passage of a Human Life Amendment is the state of Georgia, thanks to the hard work of the Georgia Right to Life. So far, things are looking pretty good.

As far as the whole personhood issue goes, to be logically consistent, pro-choice advocates must hold the view that children in the womb are human non-persons that only later become persons somehow—maybe when they grow enough big body parts, or their heads exit the womb, or maybe when they develop a sense of self-concept—around the age of two.

But how can your size, or having the right body parts, or your spatial location determine your moral value as a person? How big do you have to be to be a person? Why not one millimeter smaller? What are the specific body parts or organs that make you a person? Am I less of a person if I lose some brain cells in an accident? Did I suddenly become a person when the doctor cut the uterine wall during my mother’s C-section or when he lifted me out of the uterus? Was I not a person moments before?

This type of reasoning makes personhood sound something like weight—something you gain and lose through time. But personhood is not a property I have, it is the substance—the essence—of who I am. I am not a human that happens to be a person, I am a human-person—the term is implicitly redundant.

Every argument I’ve ever read for the existence of this pro-choice created category of “human non-persons” fails miserably when challenged.

There’s just no good argument against the traditional view that all humans are persons from the moment of fertilization.

So, getting back to our football game: What will it be, National Right to Life? Do we kick the field goal or go for the win?

I’d like to hear from the kicking team.

How about it National Right to Life?

Contraception study leaves out key info.
From Pro-Life WI:

A Portland, Maine middle school made national headlines in mid-October when the local school board approved a proposal allowing students to obtain birth control pills and patches at their student health center. The students, in grades 6-8, are mostly between the ages of 11 and 13. The Maine school board cited the 17 pregnancies – at the district’s three middle schools - during the past four years as one of the reasons for their disturbing decision.

Family planning officials cite polls and other data in their efforts to show the public stands behind such decisions. But are they cooking the books? A recent poll, conducted by Zogby International and reported on by the Associated Press (AP), has come under fire by the National Abstinence Education Association (NAEA). Zogby’s poll claims, in essence, that 67 percent of adults surveyed were in favor of giving out contraceptives to children in public schools. The NAEA says, however, it is important to look closer at the details of the poll. Most notably, when the NAEA analyzed the poll’s data, almost two-thirds (63 percent) of the 1,004 adults polled were not parents. Only 30% of parents polled were in favor of birth control at schools.

Valerie Huber, president of the NAEA, said, “Public officials are very diligent in teaching children about health dangers like smoking, drinking, or taking drugs. But for some reason, when it comes to sex, we drop the ball. We at NAEA believe that abstinence education needs to be on par with those other public-health messages."

Jen and Truetolife
Well guys, I was away for the past few days, and just read the remainder of your posts. I cant BELIEVE your patience, Jen - and if Len is bringing out the "worst in you," you are a MOST remarkable person!!!!

He seems to have that effect on everyone - truetolife has some s'plainin' to do when she meets St. Peter as well! Heh. Except me of course! I'm just as bad as this ANYway!!!

But that is what evil does. It spreads its influence. Truetolife, one consequence of evil, is not being ABLE to "recognise the good" - and that is OBVIOUS from what Len said to you about your daughter. What a remarkably twisted little mind he has.

Anyway, we WILL meet... and we will recognise each other, Jen. What a beautiful way to finish posting. Hope your prayers (not mine of course!) for Len are answered as well.... otherwise... He could be in for a very warm reception indeed....!

Though. Given his level of stupidity - do not you think that maybe his ignorance will save him???
