Poll
Will Congress pass Obamacare by the end of the year?

Their titles sound so confident:

• The Atheist Manifesto: The Case Against Christianity, Judaism and Islam by Michel Onfray.

• God is Not Great: How Religion Poisons Everything by Christopher Hitchens.

• Letter to a Christian Nation: A Challenge to Faith by Sam Harris.

and of course, • The God Delusion by Richard Dawkins.

Yet, like all atheists before them, they still can’t answer the fundamental questions of origins.

1) What is the origin of the universe? Why is there something rather than nothing? How do you get matter and energy from nothingness? How do you get a rock out of nothing?

2) What is the origin of life? How do you get life from non-life? How do you go from a rock to a tree?

3) What is the origin of mind? How does a living thing become a self-conscious being? How do you go from a tree, to an animal, to a human?

4) What is the origin of good and evil? How does an amoral being become morally aware?

Atheists respond to all these types of questions with essentially the same style answer. “We know God doesn’t exist. Therefore, since we’re here, though, it had to have happened this way. Thus, like the universe itself, life, mind, and mo-rality all ‘just popped’ into existence out of nothingness.”

I call them the Four Big Bangs:

1’) the Cosmological (the universe “just popped” into existence out of nothingness). Continued...

Not so seriously...
Summary of Pastore’s Questions for Atheists:

1. How do you get a blog out of nothing?

2. How do you get a blog from nothing . . . to post?

3. How do you get a blogger from out of nothing to post . . . thoughtfully?

4. How do you get bloggers from nothing to post thoughtfully . . . about what is good and evil— especially on Pastore’s article “Why Atheism Fails”?

Link to a very good debate between an atheist and a Christian. It came up at another thread and thought I would share it here for whoever might still exist and be interested.

Verbivore, if you're still reading
this thread, sorry to take so long. I got caught up in replying to BJ, then when I tried later the comments page for this thread wouldn't load. Didn't mean to gaff you off.

In brief reply to your questions:

"How are religous activists trying to "push into law" their theological beliefs? Which beliefs exactly?"

For starters, the belief that man is made in the image of "God". This is the very basis of opposition to the legal availability of physician-assisted suicide. Also, every taxpayer-funded 10 commandment display - I have yet to find one that failed to include the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th "commandments". See also, National Day of Prayer.

"And explain exactly where "religous activists" have confused physical science and philosophy."

Four words: Dover, Pennsylvania School Board

"Also, which beliefs do you "believe" are contrary to the beliefs on which our country was founded?"

It's not merely my "belief", it's a matter of historical record. Jefferson and Madison both, besides being worshipping deists, knew that religious freedom itself was endangered by government courtship of religious belief.

In part (there's lots more), "...no man shall be compelled to frequent or support any religious worship, place or ministry whatsoever, nor shall be enforced, restrained, molested, or burdened in his body or goods, nor shall otherwise suffer on account of his religious opinions of belief..."
