Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama’s single most illuminating statement in the course of a just-completed overseas tour was his self-description during the stop in Berlin as a “citizen of the world.” Widely interpreted as nothing more than an innocuous expression of solidarity with his adoring, post-nationalist hosts, this declaration is actually just the latest indication that Senator Obama embraces a vision of his own country and its role in the world that should be exceedingly worrisome to America’s citizenry.

The appellation “Citizen” has a checkered past. French revolutionaries used it first to distinguish the common man from the reviled aristocracy, then to enforce their reign of terror on both. Orson Welles entitled his classic film modeled on the life of William Randolph Hearst “Citizen Kane” – depicting an unscrupulous demagogue who, despite his privileged background, nearly obtained high elective office on a populist platform.

Now Citizen Obama uses a turn of phrase with no less troubling overtones. The notion of world citizenship has become a staple of transnationalists who seek to subordinate national sovereignty and constitutional arrangements to a higher power. They are working to replace, for example, our directly elected representatives operating in a carefully constructed system of checks-and-balances, with rule by unaccountable elites in the form of international bureaucracies, judiciaries and even so-called “norms.”

Citizens of the world can have their rights circumscribed or even eliminated without their consent. For instance, in March the Organization of the Islamic Conference – what amounts to a Muslim mafia organization – demanded that the UN Human Rights Council (dominated by the OIC’s members) amend the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. The effect was to alter the foundational freedom of expression so as to prohibit speech that offends adherents to Islam.

World citizens embrace the idea that the United Nations and other multinational organizations are imbued with a moral authority not found in nation-states like ours. When he was the Democratic Party standard-bearer, Senator John Kerry famously described American foreign and defense policy as only being legitimate when it passed a “global test” – in other words, approval by the international community.

Today, the Democrats’ incipient nominee subscribes to the view that, as he put it in Berlin, “The burdens of global citizenship continue to bind us together.” Global citizenship amounts to code for subordinating American interests to our putative responsibilities as a member of the international community. The former can be pursued only to the extent our fellow global citizens – or, more precisely, their unelected, unaccountable spokesmen in Turtle Bay, Geneva, The Hague or other seats of “world government” – approve.

To further such a subordination of American power, the transnationalists have long sought to enmesh the United States in a web of treaties and institutions. These include: the World Trade Organization (which now routinely rules against U.S. companies and economic interests while giving a pass to Communist China’s); the International Criminal Court (which has just established an ominous precedent for U.S. officials by indicting the sitting – albeit opprobrious – president of Sudan); and the Law of the Sea Treaty (described by its admirers as a “constitution of the oceans,” it assigns unprecedented responsibilities for control of the oceans and even activities ashore to international organs).

Of course, the notion that there truly is such a thing as an “international community” is a conceit of the transnationalists. In practice, decisions are made by majorities usually dominated by the world’s authoritarians – Russia, China, the so-called “non-aligned” of the developing world and, increasingly, the Islamist states. The subordination of U.S. freedom of action, let alone national security, to such a world citizenry is a formula for disaster.

A riveting insight into this reality was provided a few months back when the National Rifle Association’s Wayne LaPierre addressed a meeting in New Orleans, the scene following Hurricane Katrina of the forceful disarmament of law-abiding U.S. citizens. Mr. LaPierre showed a video which included a chilling statement from a senior UN official to the effect that, while she understood Americans were reluctant to part with their firearms, they had better get used to being “citizens of the world” just like everybody else.

For many in Sen. Obama’s audiences, references to “global citizenship” must sound about as benign as his mantra about promoting “change we can believe in.” It all has a sort of Rodney King-like quality to it: “Can’t we all just get along?”

In fact, the terminology Citizen Obama uses reveals an attachment to a radical transformation of not just our foreign policy but of the nature of our country itself. The “change” he has in mind could prove fatal to our sovereignty and constitutional form of government.

Questions about the appropriate role of America in the world and how it conducts its relationships with foreign powers are, of course, essential topics in any presidential campaign. That is particularly true at a moment when the United States finds itself engaged in a global war with a totalitarian ideology, Islamofascism, that has embedded itself in many allied countries and enjoys strong support from most of our foes.

It falls most immediately to Senator John McCain to highlight Citizen Obama’s radical answers to these questions and ultimately to U.S. voters to determine whether they want a global citizen in the White House or a president of, by and for the American people.

World citizen?
Isn't this Geo Soros goal? He wants the US to act as a World Nation, whereby everyone from every nation has Citizenship status in the US, votes in elections etc.

Obama is heavily funded through channels by Soros and shares his views.

Soros wants the US Military to be controlled by the UN.

The day...
....the US military becomes controlled by the UN is the day I separate.

Citizen Obama
Comrade Obama, who is kissing up to the rest of the world on expense of American people. After all, his wife started feeling proud of this country only recently, and she is the one who wears pants in the family. And of course, Barack Hussein was not aware about her feelings nor was he aware about his church’s teachings after being it's member for 20 years.

Good article...
I've heard of the UN proposal to ban any negative comments about Islam. That's been on Jay Sekulow (sp) on the radio. I note they aren't the least bit worried about offending Christians or Jews! I didn't like his comment about being a citizen of the world...although I know we are all members of the world's population. I just don't care for a guy who wants to be the leader of my country going abroad and talking about being a global citizen. Sounds too "one world" to me.

It absolutely infuriates me!
That this arrogant, self-absorbed, self-serving "CITIZEN OF THE WORLD" would plant himself on a stage in Germany and apologize to Europe for the United States! How dare he! Who the hell does he think he is? He is is certainly not speaking for me! Frankly, I'm sick to death of hearing him and that bitter, sour faced, woman he is married to tell us how miserable we are. I for one am not miserable and do not hate my country! I am so proud of our military for the sacrifices, the effort and the accomplishments they alone have made for us. How dare he not give them the credit and appreciation that they so much deserve! This man does not need to represent our country! He's a complete fake! He used this "Field Trip" of his not for Europe but to say to the American people "Look at me, see I can look Presidential!" What a con artist he is! Granted he is a good con artist but is this what we want working for US? He seems to think he already has the job! He has already started transitioning himself into the WHITE HOUSE! I just can't wrap my mind around the possibility that the American people would vote this "Paper Tiger" into the White
House giving him that much power over us all on a flimsy at best Hope that he "might" be able to do the job. WAKE UP AMERICA! WAKE UP! WAKE UP! And get a grip! He is not "The One"

Who are those guys?
On its face, the thought of an America, subordinate to a greater world order is ludicrous. It would be a step in that direction however, if a Barack Obama became our next president.

Should a President Obama embrace the catastrophic concept of a world court for instance, a concept completely in keeping with his personal concept of what this nation should be, we would lose overnight, much of the sovereignty we not take for granted.

Obama was not just pandering in Germany, he was stating his intention to bring the United States of America under global law, most certainly, that of the European Union.

Without the United States, Europe would fall into anarchy, they simply cannot defend themselves against a determined and sustained assault from an aggressor nation such as Russia or now even China. Yet, Barack Obama views Europe as the template for our own form of governance. It is his vision for America.

It is a vision, frighteningly, blinding far too many in this nation to the certainty of our downfall should his vision see the light of day.

Citizen of the world..

Fine column..right on target.

I believe Obama is a remote controlled puppet of the Far Left, themselves owned by G. Soros..one of Satan's little helpers. I am more concerned about the Radical Marxists who would be swept into Office with squishy Obama.. B.O.. obviously, doesn't even wear the pants in his own family..

Another interesting article entitled... "He ventures forth to bring light to the world"..
I didn't gave the Europeans enough credit.. apparently, a lot of them were not impressed by the lite-weight, egotistical Citzen of the world..

" That is particularly true at a moment when the United States finds itself engaged in a global war with a totalitarian ideology, Islamofascism, that has embedded itself in many allied countries and enjoys strong support from most of our foes."

Which of our "foes" gives strong support to "Islamofascism"?

Barack Hussein 'Alinsky' Obama.
I know what has happened to Obama. My question is,what has happened to Democrats? I always knew they were left of the mainstream in the latter years, but socialism?

What on God's green earth has happened to them that they would turn their backs on their own country to embrace 'a world leader wannabe' who espouses'economic justice'? Do they not know what that means?

Are they willing that all should pay so that all will be equal? What happened to 'if you don't work ,you don't eat' and 'the poor will always be with us'?

Obama's polls are static, even with all the glowing press coverage. Maybe some people are opening their eyes, finally, and seeing this man for what he is...a dangerous tool for the ultra-left.

He does not fool the Europeans either
He ventured forth to bring light to the world
The anointed one's pilgrimage to the Holy Land is a miracle in action - and a blessing to all his faithful followers

And it came to pass, in the eighth year of the reign of the evil Bush the Younger (The Ignorant), when the whole land from the Arabian desert to the shores of the Great Lakes had been laid barren, that a Child appeared in the wilderness.

The Child was blessed in looks and intellect. Scion of a simple family, offspring of a miraculous union, grandson of a typical white person and an African peasant. And yea, as he grew, the Child walked in the path of righteousness, with only the occasional detour into the odd weed and a little blow.

When he was twelve years old, they found him in the temple in the City of Chicago, arguing the finer points of community organisation with the Prophet Jeremiah and the Elders. And the Elders were astonished at what they heard and said among themselves: “Verily, who is this Child that he opens our hearts and minds to the audacity of hope?”

Yup!! New World Order here we come!!!!
Hey FYI, Check out the Lisbon treaty it is the new constitution of the EU aka European Union of which there are 27 countries. France's Sarkozy is the president of the EU The UF, Germany, France and as I said total of 27 have signed it and will soon lose their sovereignty and be subject to International law, court, and the eventual world army they already have the Euro and international banks and stock market we are soon to be alone or not if our polititions have their way, google it and check out Ireland they refused to sign and are getting a hard time from the EU and by the way, when it has come to pass they will be called the UNITED STATES OF EUROPE. God help us!!!

Count me out Granny
I am not going with the World in its new order.
I recommend no one goes with them.
It will be a horrible ending

ok talent scout
A short course in the miracle of BO's conception. It all started on a bridge in Alabama, when JFK invited African tribesmen to send their best and brightest sons to come to America and learn of freedom, which in the fulness of time led to the birth of a messiah.

He was a son a AFRICA! and of a virginal sainted women who was the kindest person to ever walk on this earth. When the heavens align there is born one who can unite us all and bring the hope of change to this desolate planet.

Michelle has been given the role of the one who proclaims that the messiah has come and will lead us all in a few rousing chants of "YES WE CAN!" "YES WE CAN!" "YES WE CAN!"

of course we are citizens of the world
whether you like it or not, or recognize it or not.

What does it mean to be a citizen of the world - it means that
events that happen elsewhere (in other states) have a direct effect on
your life in a different national state.

This ever happened recently?
Does it happen every day?
It does if you even have a small sense about how the economy
works. Or culture - especially if you live outside the U.S. I could
go on, but point made and imo proven.

Gaffney
misses the point purposely, citizens of the world do not have one
government but are tied together by a variety of entitities this
includes government, NGOs, multinational companies, etc., etc.

And being a citizen of the world as I stated we all are does not
make you less of an American citizen or place the priorities of
people worldwide over those of your coutrymen. Obama talked
about American patriotism in the paragraphs following his
"citizen of the world' comment. This is deliberate omission by
any fair commentator.

Citizen Jones
Since when is federal bailouts for the richest 1% "a president [and government] of, by and for the American people"?????? Yeah right!

Your "trickle-down" economics has also pickled your reasoning in thinking Americans are a breed apart of our fellow human beings.

We just have the most massive military juggernaut this world has ever known; therefore obviously nobody can judge us for our war crimes. Alas thankfully, our whoring in Babylon has set the stage for America's brutal fall in a coming day . . .

Let the merchants of the world despair!

Amen

Obama TALKS patriotism but...
His life history would seem to portend something else.
Consider: His political start was launched in the home of the 60s terrorists/hate America Willaim Ayers. Whom he later served with on a board and befriended(though he tried to downplay it).
His Church of 20 years(conveniently leaving upon becoming the nominee)pastored by the Rev. Jerimiah Wright specialized in sermons lambasting America and White people.
Honored such paragons of virtues as Louis Farrakhan of the Nation of Islam, an anti-Semite and racist.
Posted the charter of Hamas.
Obama in his book "Audacity of Hope" states that he never embraced his mother's race and held it in suspicion, that he identified with his Father(whom left when he was two), as a son of Africa.
Michelle Obama's senior thesis at Princeton is replete with vitriolic diatribes against racist-America and the rich white evil.
The most striking statement made by Barak in the book: I will stand with the Muslims if the political winds change in an ugly direction".
Sound like a patriot Or someone who speaks with political expediency in mind?

A "citizen" of WHAT world???

. . . Did O'Vomit mean the "One World"???

One world, one government under Anti-Christ, one "religion" under Satan??

. . . THAT's "the world" you meant???

Well, of course you want to be a citizen of THAT world!!!

Obama's Trip Backfires; McCain Surges to 4 Point Lead in USA Today/Gallup Poll

Dual Citizenship disqualifies!
http://noquarterusa.net/blog/2008/07/27/divided-loyalties-o bamas-eligibility-problem-part-1/
Read the entire article above link.

If Obama holds dual citizenship or ever has...he is disqualified to be candidate to the Presidency. Ted Olson should investigate this and view his original birth certificate.
The US State Department says, ” Claims of other countries on dual national U.S. citizens may conflict with U.S. law, and dual nationality may limit U.S. Government efforts to assist citizens abroad. The country where a dual national is located generally has a stronger claim to that person’s allegiance. However, dual nationals owe allegiance to both the United States and the foreign country. They are required to obey the laws of both countries.”

There is no way a person who has Dual Citizenship, or who has had Dual Citizenship, should be eligible under Article II. As you will see in Part Two there is good evidence that Senator Barack Obama is such a person, that Governor Bill Richardson may also be and that Senator John McCain is not. By definition NATURAL BORN = BORN IN THE (SOLE) ALLEGIANCE OF THE USA, not born on US Soil.

A Definition if you will
Everyonesfacts, as does Obama, likes the concept of "world citizenship". In politics words and phrases can mean anything you want. In the real world we have dictionaries.

citizen: a native or naturalized member of a state or nation who owes allegiance to its government and is entitled to its protection.

This raises the question as to what government Obama, Everyonesfacts and the rest of the "world citizens" owe their allegiance and what government they expect to protect them.

I will rely on the United States and our founding documents, especially that old 2nd Amendment.

Mike

O'Vomit
Germany’s Stern magazine carried the headline "Barack Kant Saves the World."

One of their columnists, Florian Güssgen, wrote: "The man is perfect, impeccable, slick. Almost too slick … Obama's speech was often vague, sometimes banal and more reminiscent of John Lennon's feel good song 'Imagine' than of a foreign policy agenda."

O'Vomit, Mr. Foreign Language, didn't give his speech in German? What a sham!

Obama and Sosorsitting in a tree - k-i-ss-i-n-g.

Obama is a socialsit, anti-American dissembler.
He and Michelle Evita Obama must be totally rejected - they are determined to destroy our liberties and our Constitution. NOBAMA!

Obama - Citizen of the World
The whole "citizen of the world" thing is more prevalent in Obama's words, and more important, in his actions, than many voters may realize. Does Obama's view of himself as "citizen of the world" more important than his being a citizen of the United States?
Consider his words from a recent speech -- "I'll double our foreign assistance to $50 billion by 2012, and use it to support a stable future in failing states, and sustainable growth in Africa; to halve global poverty and to roll back disease."

Obama seems to be focused on fixing the globe, with the United States paying most of the bill -- or as John McCain would say, 'And that is you the tax-payer, my friend!'

for Rowly
Rowly asks: "My question is,what has happened to Democrats? I always knew they were left of the mainstream in the latter years, but socialism?"

DEMOGRAPHICS, baby!

40 years ago, the heart and soul of the Democratic Party was ORGANIZED LABOR--the AFL-CIO. These were blue-collar factory workers for the most part, socially conservative, who had been in the military and fought in all of America's wars. And while they were economic liberals, going on strike for better wages and working conditions, they were deeply patriotic. The AFL-CIO was staunchly anti-Communist.

But the U.S. economy has changed. The manufacturing sector is dying. There are fewer and fewer blue-collar workers. Only 9% of America's workers belong to a private-sector labor union. Instead, we have seen an explosion in the number of college-educated young people. They work on computers rather than on factory assembly lines. And they have the transnationalist "Internet mindset": The world is one big Ebay, one big World Wide Web, no nationalisms or national borders.

Remember too that this new generation of young workers were born after the 1960s and 1970s. They didn't live through the disasters of liberalism, and they have no first-hand experience with the Gulag or the welfare state or Mao's Cultural Revolution. To them, socialism sounds new and refreshing because they didn't live through it the first and second times.

Joe Sixpack is a dying breed. The new proletariat in America should be called Suzy Google.

Gaffney could not be more on target
This was another brilliantly insightful column by Gaffney. Liberals (like 'everyonesfacts') are incapable of grasping the danger that someone like Obama represents to our sovereignty. As Gaffney points out, their own idea of a great philosopher is Rodney King.

definition of citizen
Mike,
according to Merriam Webster the #1 definition of citizen is:
an inhabitant of a city or town; especially : one entitled to the rights and privileges of a freeman.
in the case of citizen of the world - the place is bigger.
Of course, as Americans we believe everyone should have the rights
as a freeman.

Mike, you use the #2 definition.

So it does not deal with allegiance just a recognition of how the
world is whether you like it or not.

Sorry CW
not a liberal - thank you, come again!

SteveL
I'm afraid you are more right than wrong. All your reasons are valid . We have been exposed to much of the same culture.

It has only made me more resistant to the changes in the last four decades. I suppose we are akin to AC/DC. Either we are drawn to it...or resistant to it. Thanks.( Steve is my son's name)

Definition of a Citizen Again

Everyonesfacts:

I looked up the definition on dictionary.com which I believe uses the Random House Dictionary as a source. Here is the direct cut and paste:

1. a native or naturalized member of a state or nation who owes allegiance to its government and is entitled to its protection (distinguished from alien).

2. an inhabitant of a city or town, esp. one entitled to its privileges or franchises.

3. an inhabitant, or denizen: The deer is a citizen of our woods.

4. a civilian, as distinguished from a soldier, police officer, etc.

Now of course the world is a much larger entity than a city or town. The definition is not open ended. "An inhabitant of a city or town" does not include the entire world so that definition is not applicable in this circumstance.

Now for argument's sake let pretend it can be extrapolated to include the entire world. The definition says a city or town. We can expand that to state, providence or even country. All of them are geopolitical entities. Here in America our geopolitical entities are all governed by a duly elected government. That is not true for the rest of the world.
Perhaps you can point out the geopolitical entity that governs the planet. Can we define the privileges and rights of a citizen of the world? What entity protects those rights and privileges?

It most certainly does deal with allegiances and responsibilities. The world is not as you would like it to be. You cannot ascribe world citizenship when it just does not exist.

Mike

definition of citizen expanded
Yes the definition is open ended since language is dynamic.
If not, we could still be using Webster's original (by the way Merriam
Webster is the continuation of Webster's and seen to be the most
authoritative for American English of course the OED is still the be
all and end all for English as a whole, anyways).

But using your definition we see that it is not difficult to see that #2 could be stretched to include it maybe in the next edition of even
after Obama is elected - I would not be surprised if the OED has
had it in its definition for years since this is not a new, as in Obama's
speech new, concept.
#3 would apply since we are all inhabitants of the world
#4 would apply since there is no universally recognized world group,
organization, or government hence we are all citizens of the world
even if we are a policeman in our local community or soldier in our
national government.

You are conflating citizenship in the world with a single government
Obama did not do it nor do I.

I will agree that it entails allegiances and responsibilities, maybe
not the ones you would think, but an allegiance to our fellow man
and a responsibility to make the world better preferably starting at
your own backyard and emanating outwards from there.

And yes Mike you are a citizen of the world whether you like it or
not and whether you renounce allegiance or accept responsibility or
not.

Citizenship Defined Cont.
Everyonesfacts:

You said: "You are conflating citizenship in the world with a single government
Obama did not do it nor do I."

Obama and you by extension did exactly that. Here are Obama's words:

"I come to Berlin as so many of my countrymen have come before. Tonight, I speak to you not as a candidate for President, but as a citizen - a proud citizen of the United States, and a fellow citizen of the world."

In the speech he is using "citizen of the world" in the same context as "citizen of the United States"

Now I agree with you under my definition #3 that I am a denizen of the world and that denizen and citizen are interchangable in that context.

But that is not the context that it was used by Obama. He used "citizen of the world" exactly as he used "citizen of the United States" there imparting the same meaning to the phrase.

Continued in next post:

Citizenship Defined Cont. (Cont.)

Let me state the problems I have with the way it was used in the speech:

The first is that he is pandering to a foriegn crowd.

Second is that he is subordinating the United States citizenship to the world citizenship (which does not yet exist). And by extension he is subordinating our sovereignty to some undefined world organization.

Third, he is showing a collectivist/socialist attitude toward the responsibility of government. Our government is constituted to protect our inalienable rights, not to feed the world or protect the rights/wants/needs of Europeans.

And for the fourth reason I must again quote you. You said: "#4 would apply since there is no universally recognized world group,
organization, or government hence we are all citizens of the world
even if we are a policeman in our local community or soldier in our
national government."

Obama used the citizen reference because he seems to believe exactly the opposite of what you stated. As most liberals do he defers to the United Nations and treats the organization exactly as if it was a world governing body. This is a very dangerous belief to hold.

The last line of yours in the above quote I will assume is a mistake. There are no soldiers in our national government. There are soldiers in the Armed Forces, which are a tool of the Executive Branch of the National Government. The distinction may not appear important to you but it was important to our founders, it is important to the Armed Forces and it is important to the health and welfare of our Republic.

By the way can I pledge allegiance to the world. Where do I write to renounce my world citizenship and if I do will I be required to leave the world?

Mike

Studpid "citizen of the world"
I could not belive Harvard produced such an idiot. How could an American apologized to a bunch of concert rockers in Berlin. Be real or be an "Imbecile". Come on speak French, too.

Not American
I think it's inaccurate to call Obama un-American. I think he is better called not American--I don't think he sees himself as an American. He doesn't think like one, act like one, or relate to those who do.

He seems almost to me like the sly, ultimately unknowable drifter. Stateless and vaguely for sale.

World stage
The presumptive egomaniac obama only wants to USE the office of the president of the United States of America as a stepping stone to a higher office, our "citizen of the world" wants to be the first leader the new one world government we'll be finding out about real soon (I'm sure swarznegger's in there somewhere too!) and with the help of geo. sorros, he and his ilk is sure to succeed if the American people are as stupid as they are depending on (or dumned down enough!).... obama is not the least bit concerned about our interests OR our soverignity
Great example: obama says, You just need to make sure your kids learn to speak spanish!! OK?? Them doggone europeans are gonna make a mockery out of us and they might not like us because we're not bi-lingual like they are.... Now, we need to straighten up or obama might not accept us as we are!! we don't wanna disappoint obama and his wife and the rest of the world! So let's get down on our knees and lick some boot!! I want you all to feel real guilty for being SUCCESSFUL and wealthy!!! Bad.... BAD Americans you have no right to be proud of yourselves for your GREAT accomplishments... PLEASE PLEASE!!! Wake up folks!! The red flags are out and they are a-waving!! All you have to do is listen to what that rat says.
