Poll
Was the Copenhagen Global Warming Summit Walk-Out a Win for the U.S.?

Nobody is grinning wider about Barack Obama’s lead in the polls than big union bosses. This election is their best shot in a half-century to make over Washington. If they can capture the White House, the House of Representatives, and produce a filibuster-proof Senate, they are looking at the biggest rewrite of labor law in modern history.

If this happens, The Wall Street Journal says, it “could lead to higher payroll and health costs for companies already being hurt by rising fuel and commodities costs and the tough economic climate.” In turn, all prices go up for you, too.

To understand the excitement Obama creates for Big Labor, you need to look back at his early days in Chicago, because it was in organizing that Obama began his foray into politics.

Obama’s arrival in Chicago in June 1985, to work with the Developing Communities Project on Chicago’s South Side, became a pivotal and eye-opening experience. He was tossed right away into neighborhoods where crushing poverty, raging violence, a cornucopia of drugs and homicidal crime were endemic.

At this time, Obama’s mentors schooled him in the Alinsky method, named for the radical socialist Saul Alinsky. He believed in agitating people so intensely, making them so angry about their rotten lives that they “rub raw the sores of discontent” and take action to change their lives. Alinsky’s book, titled “Rules for Radicals,” became the lodestar for Obama’s approach to politics.

As Obama wrote in his memoirs: “Change won’t come from the top…Change will come from mobilized grass roots. That’s what I’ll do. I’ll organize black folks… For change.”

For the unions, Obama has been a long time in coming.

George W. Bush gave the unions eight years of corruption probes, and forced more openness in their financial dealings. Bill Clinton gave them NAFTA. George H.W. Bush allowed workers to withhold the political dues they pay unions. Ronald Reagan famously broke the air traffic controllers’ union. During this time the U.S. workforce came to see little value in unions, and today only 7.4 percent of private-sector workers are members of a union.

Union bosses are well aware that their days were numbered until Obama came along. And they are sparing no expense in getting him elected.

The AFL-CIO and its affiliates have raised an unprecedented $250 million to put 200,000 union workers on the street campaigning for Obama in the crucial final weeks. The National Education Association has budgeted up to $50 million. The Service Employees International Union has added $100 million to pay 2,000 union members to leave their jobs and go work on Democratic campaigns. All totaled, unions are expected to spend more than $1 billion of their members’ money on the 2008 elections. Moreover, it’s not only money; many unions, including the mighty Teamsters, have given Obama their endorsements.

Obama hypocritically says he doesn’t take money from special interest groups, yet unions are special interest groups. And what is organized labor expecting to receive in return? Plenty.

As Pete DuPont has written, if Obama is elected in November, “Significant labor law changes will likely start with the elimination of secret ballots for union organizing elections, so that unions can verbally "ask" workers if they would like to join (read: intimidate them into saying yes). Then may come repeal of the 1947 Taft-Hartley Act provision that allows states to enact "right to work" laws -- 22 of them have done so -- that allow workers to take jobs even if they decide not to join a union.”

Sen. Obama co-sponsored the legislation to which DuPont referrers, known as the Employee Free Choice Act or “card check.” This would make it much easier for unions to add new members by replacing secret ballots with cards that union organizers demand co-workers to sign. Obama has said several times he will sign it into law if elected.

Then there is the Teamsters Union. They claim they are not as corrupt as they used to be, and therefore should not have the Feds watch their every move. In March 2008, they were able to extract a promise from Obama to turn down the heat. He released this statement: “It’s time for the Justice Department to begin negotiations with the Teamsters regarding the elimination of the IRB (Independent Review Board, which investigates and punishes corruption)…”

This is only one of many promises he made to this special interest group -- promises he will be hard-pressed to renege on. That’s why union bosses are doing everything they can to get Obama elected. Not only will workers be coerced into paying union dues, but also a President Obama will make it much more difficult for businesses to survive, and the economy will suffer.

Union bosses in bed with leftists..
The operative word in the subject title is "bosses." Who doesn't know that? It's not news. Fortunately, labor unions are not privy to rank & file national vote preferences. Certainly, some union members will probably vote the interests of their labor unions, but there are those who vote in the interests of their country. The unions have been busy attempting to retire the present confidential ballot for union elections. Another leftist version of personal freedom of choice.

If you liked Jimmy, you will love Barack
Obama is not the end of the world (maybe). It is a chance for younger voters to experience the joys and prosperity of the Carter years.

Thanks but no thanks.

Sure'nough
did either of you gents check out the "very marxist" poster on the door.

Lenin would be proud
And no doubt would have endorsed Obama as Chavez, Castro and A-Jad have done.

Obama won't stop until all business has been destroyed and we are all indentured servants to the state.

Say NO! to socialism ... say NO! to Obama!

Unions....
are synonymous to the majority of Americans with organized crime. What better group to affiliate with Obama to bring him down?

Union Bosses
Once the rank and file find out that LIBERAL policies are behind a lot of the job loss in this country, they'll turn on the leadership like pitbulls on a piece of meat. They just need to wake up to the facts.

Unions are Organized Crime
Forget about union activities with organized crime, they have managed to have their own family, protected by law. They get protection money from employers, coerce members and then extract tribute from them, damage productivity, demand life-long pensions for retirees, and are no where near democratic.

Unions have destroyed the school systems in this country, and extracted unreasonable contracts from governmental employers. There are so many things bad about unions, I am flummoxed each and every one is not being investigated by the Justice Department.

Instead of providing more legislative cover, Congress should be considering ways to eliminate them entirely. And yes, I will live without them, gladly.

Elite liberal labor leaders betray blue
Today's liberal, "better sort" also exhibit a contempt for the common citizen in their irrational environmental and energy policies.
For example, we have wealthy labor leaders who endorse Barack Obama, Robert Kennedy, Al Gore and Senator Harry Reid's policy of refusing to allow extraction of oil on American soil or off coast waters. Further drilling for oil or mining for coal would lower energy cost and provide numerous, lucrative jobs for union members. However, labor leaders like Jimmy Hoffa, Richard Trumka and AFL-CIO president, John Sweeney support those who would curtail or reduce the growth of American industry and manufacturing. Could it be that those with a guaranteed source of wealth have the audacity to demand that those of us who are not of the progressive aristocracy must reduce our lifestyle and expectations? Are only our liberal lords allowed live in spacious houses, drive limousines and fly in private planes? Have labor leaders now assumed the style and status of Hollywood's elite ? Why are Americans refused to ability to drill, mine, utilize, manufacture or transport coal and oil products while the rest of the world can do so? Why do the liberals refuse to allow the building of refineries, factories, steel mills and nuclear or coal-fired power plants? Why do we need licenses, charters, restrictions and rationing mandated by elite bureaucrats, while other third world countries, like Communist controlled China, can consume and expand? And why are American workers denied prospects of employment because of the environmental restrictions and carbon credit allocations to be imposed by the wealthy liberal elite throughout the world? Are we turning to an age of Marxist Mercantilism, where only the elite, through their government-chartered monopolies, are allowed to control businesses?

Rethink Unions and Affirmative Action
This campaign season has brought two questions front and center for me:

Do unions do more harm or good for their members? Blue-collared workers know that Obama will shipwreck industries, so why are the union bosses supporting Obama? The unions obviously aren't looking out for their workers' jobs.

Does Affirmative Action help or harm black citizens? From what I've seen, AA has effectively destroyed black citizens' views of their opportunities and their possiblities of a normal family life. The Million Man March shouldn't have been necessary to tell black men to step up to the plate. Sad. The intention was a good one when it was first inacted, but it has become Negative Non-Action.

ARE THEY TRYING TO HANG THEMSELVES?
I remember the demise of US steel superiority. It centered with the union greed. Restrictive labor laws will mean a faster exodus of US jobs to foreign countries than the mexican invasion we are experiencing now. Less workers mean less union dues, and that's the only good result of their insanity. They are now fringing on organized crime and extortion. School unions are a primary source of what's wrong with many school districts. The administration act as the union bosses and suck up money targeted for the classroom. Unions had their usefulness, but now they end up being a detriment. Benefits and retirements depend on the business "going concern" - no company, no money geniuses.

As a former Teamster...
the union did nothing except take my money for dues and other fees required to join, which was mandatory. I was only working summers while going to college, but they took full dues. In return, they did nothing...the women I worked with in the laundry said the same thing...they didn't want to belong to the union but had no choice. Sounds like Obama will take the labor union power back to its level of the 1970's. What a loss for the work force. And a loss for the work force is a loss for the consumer.

Obama wants all his supporters to assume
the position!

On your knees Obamies of all races and religions.

It is time for your evening call to worhsip your lord and master - SWAMIE-OBAMIE!

So get off of TH and get in front of your autographed photo of Obamie and recite your sacred incantation:

Yes we can!
Yes we can!
Yes we can!

Now click your heels three times and say:

Obamie's the ONE becasue OPRAH said so...
Obamie's the ONE becasue OPRAH said so...
Obamie's the ONE becasue OPRAH said so...

and then your favorite little mantra:

Anyone who won't vote for Obama is a racist...
Anyone who won't vote for Obama is a racist...
Anyone who won't vote for Obama is a racist...

There feel better?

Obamie hears you because he is all hearing .... I means have you seen the ears on this guy?

McCain wears $500 shoes and has 9 houses
Obama is for equal rights for all people! This article is laced with all kinds of lies! Yes obama will be good for the unions but there will be oversight and regulation of the unions so they are not out of bound! I will take obama anyday to McCain who only looks out for the rich and the oil companies! McCain owns 9 houses, wears $500 shoes! And you really think McCain cares about the average person? Don't be fooled! McCain is only interested in protecting he and his cronies pockets! Remember his best friend and top economic advisor said that "WE ARE A NATION OF WHINERS AND WE ARE IN A MENTAL RECESSION" Oh I will take Obama anyday!

Opportunists
Barak Hussein and the Democrat Party use of bedfellows like Union Bosses, Teacher's Unions, Trial Lawyers, Homosexuals, Corrupt Business plainly confirms that they will stop at nothing in their quest for power.

Ebony
To what lies are you referring? If you really want to understand unions and governments, take a look at Michigan. Our collapsed economy, high taxes and very unfriendly business climate are the direct result of Democrat and union control. Specifically the UAW. Around here the UAW actually put out a bumper sticker that reads "lost your job yet? Keep buying foreign vehicles". But you wanna know why folks buy foreign cars? Because they're a better value for your money! And do you not agree such a bumper sticker is also outright intimidation? Around here if you do drive a foreign vehicle you're apt to come out of a store and find it damaged by some union moron! Ford, GM and Crysler no longer operate on the concept of supply and demand, but work on the concept of providing pay and benefits to their UAW workers. Is it any wonder those three companies are failing? During the last round of contract negotiations, the UAW took responsibility for the retiree's healthcare plan. I give them about five years, (if not sooner) before the union starts whining they don't have enough money to cover their retirees (because they've spent it all on political ambitions) so they need to cut benefits or need a handout from the Feds. If you really want to know what America will be like under your messiah's rule, take a good look at Michigan and the devestation wrought by unions and dems. Is that what you want for America?

EBONY
WE are a nation of WHINERS just listen to you.

If you think OBLAMA is going to reign in the UNIONS then you are more stupid than your own remarks. How is he going to reign in the people who give him millions in contributions.

I would rather have a man who has $500 shoes than a man who sat in his church for 20 yrs and didnt here one word of what his pastor was preaching. AMEN

I didnt hear you LIBS bashing EDWARDS and his $400 dollar haircuts he was getting and to show how ignorant you libs are. Your boy EDWARDS you know one of the most ethical leaders by what LIBS were spewing now has another DADDY BABY out there for the GOVERNMENT to take care of.

Look at your DETROIT MAYOR, actually INMATE 27330 and of what he has done to DETROIT MI,

I have one question for ya, WHY IS IT THAT ALMOST EVERY STATE OR CITY THAT IS FAILING IS RAN BY LIBS/DEMS. You would think the people of DETROIT would have a better handle on who they elect when every MAYOR has been corrupt.
