Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

It’s never good when opportunists, the unprincipled, and outright ingrates seek to advance themselves at the expense of past friendships, past favors, or the truth. It’s especially troubling when those who act in such a contrived and disloyal manner once held national office or still operate from a platform of national stature.

*** Special Offer ***

Former Republican Governor Tom Ridge of Pennsylvania and former General Colin Powell have both recently gone out of their way to criticize conservative radio host Rush Limbaugh. Why? Other than to curry favor with the Obama White House, the liberal mainstream media and those on the cocktail/Hollywood circuit, there seems to be no legitimate reason for them to go after someone who is simply and strongly expressing the opinion of tens of millions of his fellow Americans.

When recently discussing these two gentlemen on his radio program, Mr. Limbaugh rightfully asked and said, “Who’s really changed? I’ve been who I am for 20 years. When it comes to core beliefs and principles, I haven’t changed…and during these 20 years these same type of Republicans sought me out. They wanted my help in the ’94 Congressional races. They wanted my help in 2000 and 2004. They wanted my help in 2006. Many members of Congress called this program and wanted to get on this program. Now all of a sudden, I am the primary problem with the Republican Party.”

To Mr. Limbaugh’s question and points, I would ask these questions of those Republicans and ingrates who now shamefully attack him to advance their own self-interests: Do you ever actually listen to his program? Do you understand that he honestly believes and espouses conservative values? Do you understand that he is truly fearful of a leftist ideology that now controls our government, our media, and our colleges and universities? Do you understand that he is worried that if you water down or change sacred principles to pander or morph into the party in power, that it’s extremely unhealthy for the Republic? Do you understand that some on the left are trying to snuff out the voices of dissention and freedom of speech and you have become the useful idiots of their censorship campaign?

In concert with the concerns of Mr. Limbaugh, conservative radio and television host Sean Hannity has recently been saying, “I don’t think the United States of our parents exists anymore.” For me, that is a line that resonates for several reasons. The main reason being that over two years after writing the novel “America’s Last Days,” there is not a week that goes by that I don’t get an email from a reader - usually military, police, or current or former government types -- which echoes the words of Sean Hannity by saying, “Thanks for writing a novel that addresses exactly my fears for our nation. As far as I’m concerned, the United States of my parents and grandparents no longer exists and the far-left will ensure that it does not exist in our “history” books for my children to read.”

In this novel, a super-militia which believes in traditional values has been created, and is headed up by the former Director of the FBI and the former Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. In a fictional meeting between the head of this militia called “The 1776 Command” and the sitting President of the United States, the head of the militia says in part: “Mr. President, we believe the United States of America is broken beyond all repair. We believe that the liberals in our government, in the media, and in our schools and universities, have made things so twisted that what was once the United States of America no longer exists…we believe…that a new nation must be formed. A nation that will be imbued with all that our Founding Fathers dreamed would be the bedrock of the United States of America.”

While not advocating -- that is NOT, Obama Justice Department -- for revolution, Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity do share many of the beliefs and fears of my fictional characters as well as the real fears and beliefs of tens of millions of their listeners and viewers. And for that, they are being vilified by the left and abandoned by former “friends.” Vilified precisely because they choose not to walk away from their core values and conservative principles.

Understanding the motivations of those who put self and party before nation, I think it’s safe to assume that those going after Limbaugh and Hannity will never be thanking me for writing a novel that articulates the excesses and dangers of the left. No surprise and no problem.

What is a problem, is that those elbowing each other out of the way to cravenly get an invitation to an Obama State dinner will gleefully sacrifice their alleged beliefs, the loyal-opposition voices of Limbaugh, Hannity, Glenn Beck, and Mark Levin, and the rights of the American people, for a seat at that table.

Seems like “America’s Last Days” to me.

GO FOR IT--ATTACK RUSH AND SEAN--LOSE ME
AND MY MONEY.

If the Phoney Republicans even had any values they would not be pandering and peddling thier crummy selves to the Democrat Anti-Constitutionalsist.

WE WILL NOT GIVE OUR MONEY TO PEOPLE WHO ATTACK OUR BEDROCK CONSERVATIVES.

TAKE A WALK.

ROWDY BOOTS

Had they stuck to their principles, Rush
& Sean & others could have avoided this internal GOP debate over whether the party should "moderate" or "move right".

They should not have supported McCain, who was hardly better than Obama. Had the limited-government third parties collectively gotten 5 or 10 percent of the vote, instead of the measly 0.7%, the GOP leadership would be falling all over themselves trying to woo back the conservative base.

Instead, the conservative base and its pundit leadership have proven once again that the GOP can completely take them for granted and they'll show up & vote anyway. That is no way to advance an agenda.

Doug asks: "Do you understand that [Rush] honestly believes and espouses conservative values? ... Do you understand that he is worried that if you water down or change sacred principles to pander or morph into the party in power, that it’s extremely unhealthy for the Republic?"

Rush & Sean do believe and espouse conservative values. They should start being consistent by not supporting those who oppose those values, regardless of their party. This is most important during elections, because votes and money are all that power-hungry politicians of either party care about.

Tom Ridge & Colin Powell vs Rush & Sean
Neither Tom Ridge, nor Colin Powell are conservatives so their views do not and never have represented mine. Sean Hannity and most especially Rush Limbaugh's views do represent my views.

Choice
Our choices in the last presidential electon, if I remeber correctly, were sit it out, Not an option for me- vote for Obama, or vote for Mc Cain. Mickey Mouse was not on my ballot. I voted for Mc Cain, reluctantly, but Obama gave me nightmares. I am awake now and the reality is so much worse that my worst nightmares 2010 is coming. We will not need armed men in the White House to change things just unarmed citizens in the voting booth. I firmly believe this.

For the first time ...
...in my voting life (1950's),I did not vote for the Republican candidate. The Republican party can do with that little bit of information whatever they wish.I don't vote against people,I vote for people. So I voted for Bob Barr as my little protest vote.McCain can join Feingold in the ashheap of history, and if they continue to nominate people like McCain, the Republican party can join those two.

No Doubt About It.

THIS IS NOT the America of our parents and grandparents. No where near it.
................................................................................................

The liberal media and liberal educational system WILL make certain America's greatness is lost in the history books. They're doing it now!
................................................................................................

Liberal, secular Americans with the the POTUS and the Congress of the U.S. on their side, control the nation. In every aspect of the culture, traditional and conservative Americans are under attack.
................................................................................................

"AMERICA'S LAST DAYS"?

The facts are irrefutable.

One by one
they will cross over the neutral grounds and surrender to the enemy. And that is how I see the liberals --as enemies. I tend to believe that Obama is mostly an ignorant black man who is starstruck with his own self and is having his strings pulled by someone else. He was being groomed for this for a long time. Now he seems to believe he is what his adoring fans think of him.
How did we get to this time in history? How could things have changed so much? It didn't just start with Obama. It started when we slowly began elevating other cultures above Christian culture. We just let it happen.
Obama took over the steering wheel and stepped on the accelerator. He's like some idiot teenage boy showing off at how fast he can go.

Blame and denial are not policy
Blame and denial are not policy statements. Drivel about 'history' as if there is only one self-flattering version is hardly the path to progress. We have problems because of mistakes made in the past that are repeated in the present.

Neither conservatives nor liberals have a clue.

Powell and Ridge Different
Powell and Ridge have different reasons for their attack on Rush and need to be viewed differently.

Powell is a self-centered, disloyal creature of Washington D.C. and should be treated with disdain. Powell endorsed Obama at the time when it would do the most damage to John McCain, the Republican candidate and supposedly a "friend" of Powell, and Powell then voted for Obama. That disloyalty was consistent with Powell, when he was Secretary of State, not telling Bush and Cheney that Armitage was Bob Novak's source and let Bush and Cheney get pilloried in the press about the so-called leak of Valerie Plame. I am in 100% agreement with Rush about Powell. In fact, my message to Powell would be to get lost.

In contrast, Ridge loyally worked hard for McCain and the Republicans in 2008 and was a Republican Governor of Pennslyvania who has worked throughout his political career for the Republican Party's success. His atack on Rush was motivated by some frustration with Rush, which is actually understandable. Rush attacked McCain last year, running parodies of Mccain during the election campaign, and Rush continues to attack McCain presently, even though McCain has compiled one of the more conservative voting records in the U.S. Senate this year, voting against every Obama budget and bailout bill and voting against the ocnfirmations of Geithner, Kagan and Sibelius.

Rush is right that the Republican Party needs to define a philosophically conservative message and that it is right to look to Reagan, who was a political philosopher. But a conservative message is a panacea. In 2008, we had a financial "crisis," a Bush Administration bailout plan, Bush unpopularity, leftist money, absurd media bias and demographic changes working against us; and some of those factors we are going to continue to work against us in the future. Republicans need each other and focus attacks on Obama and the Democrats.

Enemies of the Republic
We got this way partially as the result of citizen apathy, compounded by short memory syndrome.

We should no longer tolerate this as a behavior real American citizens should embrace.

Put Ridge, Powell and McCain on the ENEMIES OF THE REPUBLIC list... and KEEP them there!!

Sharel, your choices on the ballot also
included Bob Barr of the Libertarian Party and Chuck Baldwin of the Constitutional Party. Either choice would have sent an easily countable protest against the big-government tendancies of the GOP.

2010
I can't express how sad it makes me to see what I consider the demise of this great country of ours. It does help tho, to read comments like the ones here and to realize that there are plenty of others that hold my beliefs. Also,Rush, Hannity, O Reilly etc. do have huge followings so there are a great many conservatives in this country. Let's hope that we come out in droves in 2010 and at least lessen Obama's power.

Frogs in the pot...
America over the years of wealth and properity have gotten fat and lazy. We've had lots of extra time to think "deep thoughts" like those of the Flower Children of the 60's. These same idiots are now in power and have poisoned many behind them. The rest of America, those of us who work, pay taxes, go to church/synagogue, and otherwise live our lives being as productive as possible, have been slowly "re-educated" into more liberal thinking. The mainstream media has been largely to blame in this subtle, slow lie. We are like frogs in a pot of water. When it is set on the stove and the heat is slowly increased, the frogs are calm and evently are boiled to death without ever noting what happened. Turn the heat up too quickly, and they become panicked, trying to get out of the pot. Fortunately, I think the liberal rhetoric has turned up the heat too quickly and some of us "frogs" are getting panicked...and hopefully, not too late.

It is a wonderful thing that the likes of Rush, Hannity, Levin, Quinn, Wilkow, Beck, to name a few, have kept us informed of the machinations of the left.

We must rebuild the Republican Party into a party of conservative ideals. There is no room for the so-called "moderates" who are essentially "democrat-lite." If we can't purify our ranks, then perhaps it is time for a new party. Just a thought...

Most importantly, we must scream at the top of our lungs when we see things being done outside the parameters of the Constitution. Obama has done so much already in that arena. We have a difficult battle, but we can succeed. We can take back our country!

Correction to 7:23 AM Post
That's "NOT a panacea" in the last paragraph of my 7:23 AM post. Time for morning coffee.

"Change" will come 2012 !
Sean, Rush and Glenn are all great Americans.

They educate us about the issues and unlike
the MSM which pretends to be objective but pushes an agenda down our throats they are open and honest.

ANY one listening to them gets that.

They are being attacked because America is beginning to see that their Emperor has no clothes.

They now see that Obama is teleprompter dependent and STILL SAYS one thing in Scranton and another in San Francisco and another in Hollywood.

He has not even been in office a year and his buck passing and Bush blaming are already getting SO old even some liberals are sick of his whines. It highlights all their failures since they controlled congress for the last two years.

The whole country is beginning to look forward to the "change" in 2012 and they know it. They go nothing so they attack.

Rush, Sean and Glenn are our best most real "hope" to move our country forward in the right direction for our citizens and for the world.

chris
I DID vote for Baldwin!

Have y'all noticed that anybody who runs on true conservative and Constitutional principals usually WINS? When the GOP got smoked in 2006, many of the Dem opponents staked out positions more conservative than the GOP incumbents (until they got into office and were introduced to the strongarm tactics of the Queen of the House).

2010
This country would not be so far to the left if fair-weather conservatives did not stay home in 2006 and 2008 in silent protest.

Faith and perserverance
Rush, Hannity, Levin, Prager, Coulter, are proof that believing and holding to your principles you can affect change. I wish it was more revolutionary in nature, but at the end of the day, these are the individuals who speak to a set of beliefs and values.

This once was a great nation where a parent could let their children ride their bikes and play and you would come in when the street lights came on. We didn't have a group of morons who wept for murderers, rapists, and child molestors and cheered for the deaths of unborn babies.

A group that weeps the death of a monster who executed babies because a woman claimed her mental health might be at stake. Heaven forbid people actually had to accept responsibility for their own decisions.

The current administration proves that daily with the pathetic cry of "I was left this mess". Name one time that GWB said we got attacked because the previous administration failed to do it's job. Bush rang the warning bell about Fannie and Freddie and no one was listening, and this current group of turds now wants to rewrite history.

I want the America of my parents not the current crap it's time to roll back the clock and take our country back.

Rush and Hannity
Rush and Hannity and Beck certainly have their following with about twenty percent of the population that believes in earnest that with the fall of the conservative movement and the election of Obama comes the fall of America. And a twenty percent of active listeners can make you mighty rich. The problem is it can't get you elected.

The Democrats have built a winning coalition of liberals, moderates, and even some conservatives. But the republican party has become more conservatives ad conservative alone. There is not a single Republican member of congress from all of New England, the party is falling apart and they have no leaders. This is what ridge and powell are saying and they are correct.

Audacity-Frauds:Mohammed, Hitler, Obama

Dr. Ali Sina, February 8, 2009

http://iranpoliticsclub.net/politics/audacity-frauds/index. htm

“Bold, Arrogant, Megalomaniac, Narcissist, Compulsive Liar and a fraud celebrity, erected by the American Liberal Media and sold to the naïve public as the 44th president of United States of America! Obama with the highest amount of campaign funds in the history of America, had practically bought his way in to the presidency!

“We may wonder how evil men like Hitler and Muhammad fooled so many people to the extent that under their spell they willingly committed the most hideous crimes. Could this happen again? Could, in this day and age, another narcissist deceive millions with his big lies? Sadly, the answer is yes. Human evolution is only technological. Psychologically and emotionally we are still cavemen. It is at this level that people are conned and narcissists operate. Obama’s followers worship him. They act thuggishly towards his critics.

"Even law enforcers, such as sheriffs and prosecutors have agreed with him to abuse their authority and form “Obama Truth Squads.” It is clear the intent is to intimidate h is critics. Does truth need the hand of law? “Yes,” if you ask Hitler, Muhammad and Obama, “no,” if you ask Jesus and Buddha. This is just the beginning. What do Obama’s minions do when he is actually in power? Their cultic mentality and their vicious attacks of his critics can only be likened to that of Muslims, fascists, Nazis, Bolshevists and followers of Jim Jones. This level of fanaticism is unprecedented in American politics.”

Cont…..

JMO51, the last time the GOP ran a
conservative for President was in 1984, and he won 49 states.

The last time they ran collectively as conservatives for congress was 1994.

Since then they've been breaking promises, growing government and becoming more liberal.

It's "moderate" Republicans that have been losing elections. You say "the republican party has become more conservatives ad conservative alone." Sorry, charlie, you've got it completely backwards.

Audacity of Frauds: Part II

Mohammed, Hitler, Obama!
Dr. Ali Sina, February 8, 2009

http://iranpoliticsclub.net/politics/audacity-frauds/index. htm

“It does not take much to see that Obama, like the above conmen is a narcissist and like them, dangerous. There are many obvious clues to those who understand narcissism. One is the fact that he is a serial liar. Some of his lies are big, so big that few doubt them.

“Could anyone in their right mind run for the presidency of the USA if he or she is not an American? This sounds ludicrous and yet, there is cause to believe that Obama may actually be an illegal immigrant and ineligible for the senate, let alone the presidency.

“It is not a secret that I am not an Obama fan. I have gone out of my way to w arn Americans to be wary of this Pied Piper.

“Despite my bias, when I first heard this allegation made by Philip Berg, a lifelong Democrat and a former Deputy Attorney General of Pennsylvania, I dismissed it. The possibility of one person having the audacity to bamboozle an entire country and commit a fraud so colossal just seemed too farfetched.

“However, I know a thing or two about narcissism. I know narcissists have no grasp of reality and as such they can be very audacious. I also know about the magic of the big lie. So I paid attention to what Berg says and hey, he seems to be on to something. Then again, what did Obama have to lose? He may not even have dreamt that he would win. Just running for presidency would have given him fame and recognition, something a narcissist would kill for. But hey, the world is full of suckers and surprise, what started as a prank became a reality.”

And be sure to note the paragraph quoted from Chapter 10 of Mein Kampf.

Look at the last election
Take a long, hard look at the last election. During the Primaries, the mainstream media just fell over themselves to get McCain the Republican nomination.

Not standing by your values is a political mistake, which is why I think so many stayed home last election. McCain did not represent the conservative values most Republicans hold dear--lower taxes, smaller government, less government interferrence.

Bush strayed from those values and many voted for Obama becasue of it. I for one have registered as an Independent, until I see which direction the Republican Party decides to go.

I think it is a big mistake by the Republicans to snub Sarah Palin. They claim to want to be more inclusive, yet they shun her. I know so many women who have been diehard Democrats that absolutely love this woman. Say what you will. but when she is in front of a crowd she energizes it. She could be a tremendous asset in fundraising for the party. Yet they treat her like a leper. I personally believe McCain got the votes he did because of her.

Screw the mainstream media and what they think. I truly believe they are afraid of her and what her impact could be if she gets out there doing speeches and letting the American people know who she is and what she stands for. She was brought on the scene way too late. There were not many who knew her and look at the response she got--MSM excluded.

She is one of the most dynamic political speakers the party has and they are foolish if they do not utilize her talent.

Right now there is no front runner, but in the meantime, get her out there to motivate the party base. Her speeches motivate and she can give Obama a run for the money. His speeches are more like sermons or lectures, I for one don't appreciate being lectured.

THE ANTI LIBERAL ZONE
Has a FRESH essay up on conservatism and a picture worth 1000 words.

Obama is not doing anything that he

didn't already TELL US THAT HE WOULD DO... at least to those who were listening ...

Not the least of which... "I WILL STAND WITH MUSLIMS SHOULD POLITICAL WINDS SHIFT IN UGLY DIRECTION."

They're getting ugly!

A Force Of Evil
Evil is evil, any way you color it. When power hungry politicians take over your very life and you do nothing to stop it, you become nothing more than a robot going through the motions of being human. The Liberal faction of my Party is the embodiment of this evil, hiding behind that well known cloak of morality and self-righteous behavior. By claiming to be saving us from ourselves, they are actually training our young to follow blindly any where they lead. This is audacity, which in itself shows contempt for restraint of laws, religion and decorum. If Obama is true to form, his arrogance over the masses only shows how little regard he has for the opinions of others and feels he needs advice from no one. He seems to have little regard for anyone but himself and may soon be the supreme leader of the world, at least in his own mind. The more he says "I will do this or that and not our nation should do this or that," the more he is placing himself above the citizens. The Liberal media just flatters his ego at every turn hoping for a few crumbs of recognition from the supreme one. How many truly spoiled people in your life have you known and actually liked? Sooner or later, he may fly too close to the sun.

Clifton L. West

Frogs in a pot...
Your observations are very true. If one reads how various dictatorships grab the power, one finds common threads, be the dictator fascist or socialist/communist (all were begotten by the same devil).
1. There is hardship caused by war, collapse of economy or great social differences, injustices.
2. Large segments of society are suffering and/or are dissatisfied with the prevailing conditions.
3. A group with a simple message and a silver tongued messenger offers a "simple" solution.
4. The group exploits all the democratic means and traditions and grabs power.
5. Once on power all the sweet promises are thrown under the bus and the silver tongue retracts behind steel teeth.

Most of the fascist/socialist/communist dictators have the paitience of a snake and their future victims (at least most of them) don't realize that they are frogs in a pot of water and the heat is being slowly increased... Read about the Bolsheviks before and in 1917, the Italian fascist in early 1920-s, the Nazis in the 1920-30 time frame, the communists in Eastern-Central Europe in 1945-48, the Chinese in their "Long March" to communism to get the picture. Abey Hoffman, Tom Hayden and co. were quite outspoken in the early 1970-s that they would win by rotting and sabotaging the "system" from the inside. Welcome, Brave New World! The terrible process, however, can still be halted and REVERSED, given the will and dedication!

Seems like “America’s Last Days” to me.
Me, too, Doug!

The America of our parents
It always makes me shake my head in frustration when I hear people bemoan the state of America and assign the blame to one "group". I guess conservatives don't get divorced, don't drink too much, don't do drugs, cheat on taxes, eschew paying their bills, or fail to practice parenting. The truth is our country is where it is because as a nation we got lazy and greedy as individuals. My next door neighbor bought that $50K SVU he just had to have and meanwhile his kids are runnign the streets and in trouble is it because he is a staunch conservtaive or liberal or because he simply has done a terrible job of parenting? Gettign that really nice car was more important than raising his kids properly. Our country is where it is because the last 1.5 generations have completely fallen down on our core responsibilities...raising productive children and living within our means. Both sides have done miserably on this.

Super-Militia
Why do our conservative super patriots love to fantasize about armed revolution and the dissolution of the American union?

Hannity, Beck, Limbaugh and the others couldn't get elected dogcatcher in this country. Why? Because their vision of returning to the America of yesterday doesn't resonate with American voters.

The way to change America for the better is at the ballot box. Republicans have plenty of good ideas. Find some charismatic leaders, articulate your ideas, and get elected. Then implement.

This is how it works.

Re Post # 17
Post # 17 advocates that, in the anticipated days of revolution, "any elected, appointed, or hired official that has voted or acted contrary to the provisions of the Constitution" will be found guilty of treason and put to death by hanging or gunshot.

The poster making this recommendation has often posted to townhall his own interpretation of what is and is not Constitutional, and I believe he does not find Constitutional authority for the National Institutes of Health, a federal facility in Bethesda MD where medical research is conducted and applied clinically. A research physician working at the NIH in the area of cancer research could fairly be called "a hired official". I wonder whether Joel De-Oppresso-Liber is serious when he proposes the state execution of a doctor for doing cancer research, and where he finds Constitutional authority for such an action.

There's enough blame to go around for the 2008 election disaster. Further discord between conservatives, Republicans and traditional Americans CAN NOT HAPPEN AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!

JMO51 @ 8:37 a.m. EST: I'm surprised how little you know about politcs. Only eight years ago commentators stated the Democratic Party was finished. Ask losers John Kerry and Al Gore about it. They'll tell you.

It can't be said enough. Politics can change in an instant. This is true throughout all of known history. Will it happen again? Of course it will.

America of My Parents
Principles matter and I think that in short time the silent majority of Americans will wake up and say enough. We have allowed ourselves to think that the lowest demoninator of citizen is the role model, the guy in the gang or the guy in prison. I think the 'phase' is starting to wear thin and more and more people are starting to see the light; families matter, having a job matters, principles matter, and when you look at what is happening today, the democratic agenda, there is disaster everywhere; no jobs, raising interest rates, a weak view of America, the main stream media lying and telling half truths and a very disalusioned middle class. So, soon the 'sleeping giant' will wake up and when he does, America will again regain it's footing. We have too much to loose if we don't.

To Anne
Your posts linking to the Iran Politics Club are interesting---I followed your links and looked at the IPC website. We don't often see recommendations on a conservative website to follow the political teachings if Iran. Are you now a follower of Ahmadinejad? Or perhaps you didn't quite realize what you were linking to?

Iran doesn't like Obama, and you don't like Obama: does that mean you have found common cause with the Iranians? Or that you took their bait?

T.C. - RE: nation has come to its senses
RE:"First indication the nation has come to its senses..."

June 2009 it begins with the latest Gallup Poll:

*only 45% of Americans approve of Obama's handling of federal spending, and 46% of his handling of the federal budget deficit.*

Republican Self-Criticism (1)
MacKinnon claims Powell and Ridge have "no legitimate reason" for criticizing Limbaugh and Hannity. How about because of DISAGREEMENT with them. Is that legitimate enough? You do not have to be seeking to "curry favor" with the White House. When did we Republicans decide to vest some of our leaders with a sort of Papal infallibilty? I guess I forgot to sign up on the mailing list for that newsletter. I have never been a fan of either Powell or Ridge. Consequently, I have not seen their comments. But whatever they said should be judged on its own merit instead of met with shock over their irreverence.

Up the REVOLUTION!

Though I truly do like the ring of a new majority built from within an "American Constitution" party. Where do we sign up?

with Chris Matthews appearing on Hardball recently proclaimed “(obumassiah)’s sort of God.” Other than violating the doctrine of Separation of Church and State of which the lefties are so fond, the idea of obumah as deity is the most repulsive concept imaginable. This is not hope and change; it is despair and chains. We must act now. 2010 will be too late. The precise moment the supreme bean signs his health care plan into law the game is over. I advocate we go on strike. Taking a clue from the great Reverend Doctor Martin Luther King, Jr., we make peaceful protest against the policies of the marxists in power and we produce nothing. If we produce nothing, they cannot steal it from us. By cutting off their money stream, forcing them to do without, we just might finally get their attention.

To jim: It's a Long Time Gone
I often remember Sunday dinners at my grandmother's home. Around the big dining room table were eight of us. Now it's 70 years later, every one of them but me is dead, and the house burned down years ago. I can see the site on Google Earth; not a single tree that I remember still stands. The school where I learned to read has been torn down. The streetcars we traveled in have been gone for fifty years.

The radio programs we listened to (Walter Winchell, Ma Perkins, Sergeant Preston of the Yukon) are history. In that house there wasn't a single TV, microwave oven, cell phone, or computer (nor did we dream of such things). We did not know Eggo Waffles or Pop Tarts. The news on the radio was of World War II; veterans of that war are now old men, dying every day. A neighbor died of strep throat because penicillin hadn't been invented yet. One neighbor drove a Model-T Ford and another one had a Hupmobile. Cars had running boards and rumble seats and had to be started with a crank.

As an old lady I struggle to understand how what was reality can simply cease to exist. But this I do understand: we cannot conserve what CONSERV-atives long for---we cannot bring back the past. "Our parents' America" is not coming back. Either we acknowledge that the present is a new day, or we founder. Which is what the CONSERV-atives appear to be doing.

The Quota Has Been Met
Let not your heart be troubled. We have gotten our first "affirmative action" president out of the way. Now we can begin repairing his damage with the next election. Independants will have learned their lesson and will shun the socialist democrats. All the folks who wanted a black president have been appeased now and will stop voting again. Most things will return to normal.

Republican Self-Criticism (2)
I became a convervative as a teenager watching Wm. F. Buckley's Firing Line every Sunday afternoon. I subscribed to his magazine and read his books and those of other founders of the modern conservative movement. I found his intelligence, logic, and wit irresistable. His labors finally bore fruit due to their influence on one man in particular-Ronald Reagan. But Buckley hardly inspired the average voter.

Limbaugh and Hannity, in contrast, are intellectual lightweights. They do not read many books. (Hannity says he does not have time for that). Research staff read for them and create talking points for their shows. They do make many pointed observations and often shine a light where few others are willing to look. But way too often, we are subjected to way too much eolian stench from these two blowhards. But, they get voters energized and to the polls like Buckley never could.

Thank you, Doug
You are telling it like it is. Those turn-coats in the Republican party should hang their heads in shame, but they won't.

I'm also glad you named names and didn't go the "polite" route.

Colin Powell is typical of people who get too much recognition. He started out as a patriotic person who served his country well in the military. When he gained a name for himself and became a celebrity of sorts, the adoration and limelight were too big of a temptation. He had to keep that attention, and he decided that joining the liberal camp was the only way to do it.

It’s really sad. Instead of just being a celebrity whose 15 minutes will be soon forgotten, he could have been a great American on the same level with Thomas Jefferson and Patrick Henry.

The voice of my father
My dear dad has been dead 10 years this August, but I can hear his voice in that of Rush Limbaugh's. My dad really loved to listen to Rush's show everyday after he retired from Chevy. And for a long while this tail-end baby boomer could not stand it. You see, I thought I was "so enlighten, being a Democrat and all."

On my visits home, accompanying dad on his errands, I listened to Rush. When back overseas serving my country, I would listen to that magical first hour (all that AFRTS got)

Once I was back in the CONUS, and after my Air Force retirement, I would listen (still listen) to him on most days.

He sounds exactly like my father, and my uncles (more than my aunts and my mother). Not his voice, but what he says. The language usage, the cadence, it's of a by-gone era. Where a high school graduate DID have about as much "general education" as many college "kids," maybe better.

His love for this country, and he respect for those that truly want to improve upon its greatness is evident. I have never found him to be "mean-spirited" or even "nasty," unlike many other entertainers on the other end of the political spectrum.

Mr. MacKinnon, thank-you for this little opinion piece so close to Father's Day.

Everyone else, if your dad is still around, call him today. If you can go visit. Even if you are on opposite sides of issues.

Colin Powell's Loyalty
CP is not a loyal Republican. He is loyal only to his race (mulatto).

chris
In all due respect. your history is a bit revisionist. Conservatives were hailing the Bush Presidency as a victory. Christian Conservatives were lauding Bush as one of their own.

Of course given the utter failure of the Bush Administration, conservatives were faced with a quandry, accept the fact that conservatives policies had made a mess of things or as create this fiction that these conservatives were not real conservatives.

Which begs the question, who are the real conservative political leaders-can you name any current members of congress that are your kind of conservative and which Republican Candidate for President this time around would have met your criteria as a true conservative?
1994 was a year of hope and promise for Conservatives, but in the end they did not deliver.

I doubt that on close examination even your hero Ronald Reagan would meet your definition, the myth after all is different from the man.

Please name the conservative politicians that you think are true conservatives.

secularsquare
You epitomize the very type of obsequious person Mr. MacKinnion speaks of in this article.

T.C.
I think the Republicans had a real chance to be in power for a long time. But Bush turned out to be incompetent and the Republican Leaders proved that they were only interested in serving their big corporate contributors.

In the eyes of the public, we gave the conservatives a try and what they gots was an utter disaster and so they fired their sorry butts.

So now it is the Democrats turn and most people are willing to give them a chance. If things work out well, they will likely be in power for a while, maybe a generation. If they fail Conservatives will have a chance and there is no doubt that at some point they will rise again.

lilly: That comment (#37) "Iran doesn't

like Obama, and you don't like Obama: does that mean you have found common cause with the Iranians? Or that you took their bait"

"... stereotype that military families are often composed of stupid people."

YOU are obviously a low-life, ignorant, simpleton.

Robert
Because they truely don't love America. They only love it when the public is with them, when the public rejects them they are prepared to force their way on the majority.

Conservatives made a big deal about liberal questioning Bush policies in a time of war. But now that the President is a Democrat all of a sudden the rules are different and that was on day one.

I think it was right of liberals to crititize Bush and right of conservatives to critize Obama. But given the fact that conservatives were so quick to attack liberals about this not on the substance but on the idea, you would think they would at least try to walk the walk.

Lilly
You surprise me. For someone who grew up in your generation, how did you get so brain washed? Something must have gone wrong in your life somewhere.

Just because it is a new generation does not mean old values have to be thrown out. You are wrong. Reality does not “cease to exist”. What is real, is real and the truth never ceases to be true.

Reality may change form from generation to generation, but the bedrock of truth never changes. Conservatives have no desire to bring back Model-T’s, running boards or street cars. In fact, if anything, it is liberals who want to return to the days of scarcity.

Liberals fight nuclear power plants, one of the cleanest and safest power resources available, but push wind mills and other backwoods remedies that can’t possibly provide the energy needed today. Liberals are constantly recalling the days of the old family owned, general store and abhor the Wal-Marts that provide everything consumers need under one roof at a lower price. Liberals want to preserve the old family farm even though corporate agricultural operations produce more product for more people at a lower price.

Human nature still proves that people work harder to better their own lives and that hard work creates a strong and prosperous society for everyone. History still shows that people who get handed their living without putting forth much effort will continue in a place of dependency and eventually bring down those around them. This is the truth. This is reality.

Reality is that you cannot give people rights without requiring they be responsible for those rights. Rights without responsibility creates a society of spoiled children incapable of retaining those rights.

Read your history books and you will see these truths have never changed. They are what our founders called “self evident” truths.

Societies that have tried to ignore self evident truths have not created a new reality. They have only created their own demise.

DanNV
And to whom is my obsequiousness directed? Not MacKinnon. Not Ridge. Not Powell. Not Obama. Not Limbaugh. Not Hannity. Is there anyone else in this column I missed?

America is beginning to see that their Emperor has no clothes.

The now see that Obama is teleprompter dependent and still says one thing in Scranton and another in San Francisco.

He has not even been in office a year and his buck passing and Bush blaming are already getting old even some liberals are sick of his buck passing.

It highlights all their failures since they controlled congress for the last two years.

The whole country is beginning to look forward to the "change" ...

O Man is already going down in the latest Gallup polls.

Didn't take America long to see the truth and Obama did it to himself.

Rush, Sean and Glenn only report. America decides.

Bye bye Libs

Conservative or liberal
What the hell do they mean? I really don't know. We once thought that conservatives believed in the principles of Ronald Reagan, who, as great a man as he was, was still a man and made some mistakes. Today those who call themselves conservatives seem to be able to change their philosophy with the shifting of the political wind. W the conservative presided over the biggest increase in government spending in my lifetime, until now.

Face the facts, we haven't been given the opportunity to vote for a true conservative since Reagan, and he was not a pure constitutionalist. Look what happened when a true constitutionalist and conservative was offered to the people as a candidate. Ron Paul was given short shrift not only by the MSM, but by his own party and we the people as well.

No folks, we will never go back to the America of our parents, and thank God for that. My parents had four terms of FDR to live through. I remember part of those four terms personally. We may have had a closer family then, but we didn't have any more choice in who we voted for than we do now. Al Smith in 1932, Alf Landon in 1936, Wendell Wilkie in 1940 and Tom Dewey in both 1944 and 1948.
When we finally did get a Republican who could win, it was not because he was a conservative, but because he was a war hero.

The party fed us Bob Dole in 1996 the same way they fed us John McCain in 2008 as well as George N.W,O.Bush in 1988 and 2002, W in 2000 and 2004.

Makes me want to just sit back and avoid the political process entirely!

To Ms Kelly
The values of the good old days conservatives long for:

1) The country club golf course of my childhood did not allow even black caddies, let alone black members; Tiger Woods would have worked in the kitchen if he was there at all.

2) Social shunning of the unwed mother and her child; finger-counting at the birth of a baby to see if its parents had had premarital sex.

3) Black applicants with college degrees applying for jobs at companies where they were offered only a janitorial job.

4) Children's reports of sexual molestation disbelieved, whether the abuser was Uncle Harry or Father O'Toole; abused child made to feel guilty for saying such a thing.

5) Well-dressed, well-behaved, well-moneyed black people turned away from nice restaurants and hotels.

PS Wal-Mart destroys small business, often family-owned small business, and entire Main Streets of small business. Conservatives applaud this?

PPS RE Lifelong dependency: check out the military. I know a guy whose military service consisted of working as a dentist for six months in Paris, France. His disability is not service-connected (multiple sclerosis). He receives full military disability with generous extras such as a special vehicle and a no-questions-asked grant of $50K to remodel his bathroom. Ever'body talkin' 'bout Heaven ain't goin' there, and everybody soaking up military benefits isn't a combat hero to whom we gratefully owe our lives---but we still support them all in grand style, forever.

The Left's Playbook

Anne, I am not making this up. Seriously, follow your own link. It is to the Iran Political Club. Did you see criticism of Obama and just jump on the bandwagon without reading the fine print?

Conservative or Liberal
I've been waiting for someone on TH to say that.
Thanks.

To AF retiree
I can appreciate your hearing your Dad's voice when you listen to Rush Limbaugh; those warm associations are powerful. A while back someone posted on townhall that she was voting for Huckabee because the name reminded her of Huckleberry Finn. And we tend to believe what a person says, and not challenge it very much, when we just LIKE him.

But how do you feel when Limbaugh states positively something that turns out not be true? The first time I ever heard him he was saying that President Clinton had murdered Vince Foster. No such evidence was found and no such case was proved. Opinion, even if strongly held, does not equal fact.

More recently Limbaugh said, in his usual definite, absolute manner, that Judge Sotomayor is a racist. In fact, in racial discrimination cases she found against the plaintiff (the person charging racism) 80% of the time---that is not the record of a racist judge, and many who said that of her have taken back their words.

Limbaugh's popularity derives partly from his style---his audience likes absolutes, so he has developed a style that relies on exaggeration, distortion, misstatement, mockery, ridicule, and being ABSOLUTE. But selling his style sometimes leads him to say things that can't be trusted to be truth. Are you sayin that's OK as long as it's something you like to hear?

Lilly, you can't be serious
"PS Wal-Mart destroys small business, often family-owned small business, and entire Main Streets of small business. Conservatives applaud this?"

I don't suppose it could be the higher business taxes, property taxes, sales taxes, corporate taxes, import taxes, and the myriad government regulations that small businesses have to contend with, could it? Wanna know why people shop at WalMart? Because they are usually located in low tax areas, where they can provide lower prices, better parking, and more selection. And they can buy by volume, which offsets the draconian taxes levied on businesses.

It's ironic that the same people who tax and regulate small businesses out of existence blame one of the few entities that is able to turn a profit.

Heres' a clue, Lilly (though the chances of you grasping it are miniscule, I will offer it anyway). lot of us shop at WalMart because we don't feel we should have to pay the taxes passed on in the form of higher prices that government keeps heaping on small businesses. I'd love to support small businesses, but not when paying more money for what they offer only goes to an already bloated government.

Wanna save mom and pop stores? Lower their taxes, eliminate some of the one-size-fits-all stupid regulations they have to follow, and get cities to quit charging folks two bucks an hour to park their cars. Then maybe they can be competitive. Killing WalMart isn't going to help small businesses, it's only going to increase taxes on the poor by forcing them to buy from stores that are overtaxed.

re: The Turncoats!!!
The reason why this is taking place is that there are a number in the GOP who are basically the country club types who don't want to advance any more than where they are or ruffle any feathers because it would mess up their little world and then they would have to take a stand on any issue!!! Basically, a gutless wonder!!! Kudos baby, kudos!!!

It's fun to look up the background of various figures in the news, ranging from political leaders to "what ever became of that actress we just watched in an old movie". Internet makes that so easy. I happened to look up the background of various talk show hosts. It's interesting that three of those wellsprings of conservative knowledge in the fields of economics, politics, and social policy (fields in which people toil for decades to master formally the body of knowledge), Limbaugh, Beck, and Hannity, all went to work as commentators right after high school. A couple of them fooled around in some local college for a course or two and then dropped out. I think that any reasonable person would have to conclude that they are primarily very good at a specialized form of show business and that, if Jane Fonda's grasp of politics should not be taken seriously, neither should Rush Limbaugh's.

Reps. just took the leg. house in NYS
For those cons. who are so pure that they cannot vote for anyone but Reagan, you will never see another Rep. pres. in your lifetime.

But Republicans are not dead, and a majority has taken the NY State leg. House with the change of party by two Dems. (crooks, both), but you have to take power where it is offered.

For NY State, it means the Patterson leg. program of high and higher taxes and fewer jobs is prob. shot and so is Patterson's run for gov.

Reps. need to oppose Dems. on everything, as the Cong. is bent on corrupting the US into insupportable debt (spending $2.5 million a minute) and generations' long leg. problems like *national* health which is meant to make more money for Cong. and threatens Am.'s eminence in top medical care all over the world.

People who want real health care do not go to Canada or England or Germany. They come here.

Rush Limbaugh: Flunked out of college after three semesters (by his own mother's statement). Avoided military service by means of a pilodinal cyst (cyst on his bottom). History of drug abuse and unlawful drug-seeking. Married three times with multiple divorces. Has made a fortune as a radio propagandist. Known for spending money flamboyantly and extravagantly.

If you have a son, which path would you rather have him follow?

Rush Limbaugh
Sean Hannity
Mike Savage
Mark Levin
Randy Cunningham
Glen Beck are not in any Government position to force anyone to do their bidding.

They have one thing and that is the very thing all enemies of America have always hated.

Freedom of Speech
Freedom of Religion.

They have nothing but their speech while the people who are in Government and hate their rights of speech have the power to ABUSE THE LAW.

The real danger in America today is the ABUSE OF LAW.
Obama and his thugs ABUSE THE LAW EVERYDAY.

Take off the gloves and fight for this country if you want your children to know the Liberty the cost of Blood has given as a Birth Right to EVERY AMERICAN.

The real hate mongers are the people who attack these men and their Liberties and they are very bold due to the absolute ignorance of citizens today.

Obama is as Anti-American as I have ever heard, and he insults Americans and our friends as he chums up to the enemies of out Liberties.

This man obama is bringing destruction.

He is digging a deep pit for the fools who follow this blind man into the ditch

Limbaugh's Philosophy
The most frightening thing I have ever heard Rush Limbaugh say was to tell his listeners to limit their information sources to one: him.

"Folks, this happens all the time. People listen to stuff on Cable then they come to me all scared and I have to straighten them out. Listen to me, folks. Don't go to Cable. Don't read those liberal papers. They will just get you confused. Just come here to me right away, and I will explain everything."

He appears to disagree with Thomas Jefferson, who said, "Almighty God hath created the mind free". Also, "I swear on the altar of Almighty God eternal vigilance against every form of tyranny over the mind of man."

Rush's Truth?
Lilly, I seriously doubt you've ever listened to a full radio program of Rush Limbaugh. He uses absurdity to express not only a humorous lancing of Liberal orthodoxy, but also empahsize conservative principles which completely escape, r.e. are incomprehensible, to the liberal mind. Think something along the lines of the playwright Samuel Beckett, as in "Waiting for Godot."

Lilliputian, what do you do with your
life except spend all day and night on TH?

Thomas Jefferson actually said that reading (novels) was a waste of time and corrupted the mind.

So, you cannot use Jefferson in your defense.

Rush, Hannity, O'Reilly, et. al. will outlast King Elect O and his *progressives* as 62,000,000 real voters denied Big O and the 67,000,000 who supposedly voted for O were full of fraud and criminality engendered by ACORN and Rock the Vote and the Black Panthers. The latter will not thrive long.

Cons. is forever, and even the college kids so nuts for Big O will outgrow him and his message.

JMO51 on definition of a conservative...
I am an evangelical Christian, and a believer in limited government. I am an economic conservative in every sense. I live as a social conservative, but believe the government should not protect people from themselves, which makes me a libertarian rather than a social conservative.

One thing I hope we can agree on - conservatives believe in the rule of law, starting by either following the constitution or properly amending it.

JM: "Christian Conservatives were lauding Bush as one of their own."

I will admit W looked good in 2000 and 2001. He really hacked me off by signing the clearly unconstitutional McCain-Feingold and spending like crazy. I was no fan of his by 2003.

JM: "who are the real conservative political leaders-can you name any current members of congress that are your kind of conservative and which Republican Candidate for President this time around would have met your criteria as a true conservative?"

Well, there's idealism, and there's practicality. There have only been two sort-of-conservative presidents in the past 120 years: Coolidge and Reagan. Both were hampered by the blue-blood wing of the GOP. Reagan promoted pure conservatism in his speeches, but obviously had a mixed record governing as a conservative.

Ron Paul is the only currently serviing ideal conservative I can think of. He was so close this year, but I had major problems with his unwillingness to defend the country / finish what we started. Granting that we've made mistakes, we can't just pretend they never happened - we have to start from where we are now.

...

to JM, continued...
Almost all Republicans (and all Dems) support the federal government doing things it was not empowered to do by the constitution. But to make progress in the right direction, I sometimes vote for them anyway. My senator Jeff Sessions is a good example - he supported the bloated farm bill, but he's still one of the best senators, so I voted for him despite various reservations.

I would have voted for Romney, Ron Paul or Fred Thompson last year. I would not have voted for Huckabee or Guiliani, and am happy not to have voted for McCain. Palin & Jindal look good, but not ideal. From what I know right now, I'd vote for either.

"1994 was a year of hope and promise for Conservatives, but in the end they did not deliver."

Yeah. That's pretty much what I said - they ran as conservatives, then moved left.

JM: "I think the Republicans had a real chance to be in power for a long time. But Bush turned out to be incompetent and the Republican Leaders proved that they were only interested in serving their big corporate contributors."

Agreed.

JM: "In the eyes of the public, we gave the conservatives a try and what they gots was an utter disaster"

That's the problem - we didn't give conservatives a try - we gave pro-business big-government progressives a try. Now we're trying pro-labor big-government progressives. It's time we tried limited-government for a change.

JM: If the Dems "fail Conservatives will have a chance and there is no doubt that at some point they will rise again."

That's the other problem - eventually the Dems will stumble and the GOP will get power back. My concern is that the GOP will be no better than the Dems. That's why we need to reject moderate GOP candidates so they'll run conservatives.

Core principles
Limbaugh is a reflection of modern America, with drug problems and multi-divorces to his credit.

Ignoring those foibles is like ignoring that Bill Clinton is a serial adulterer.

If "families matter", Clinton is way ahead of both Limbaugh and Coulter in the family department, but doesn't make his politics any more acceptable.

lilly
How about this one?

Who would you rather be like?

Isaac Asimov with reportedly a 200 I.Q. who wrote dozens of books, was known worldwide, midia personality, worth probably millions. An atheist who is now serving his real master in hell.

OR;

The 88 year old widow of a sharecropper living in a 2 room shack in the backwoods without electricity or running water. She never went past the 8th grade, but she reads her Bible every day, and knows "whom she has believed."

I know that is an easy one. Obviously the 88 year old sharecroppers widow is the more intelligent of the two.

So here is another easy one. Who would you rather be more like? Any liberal leaning idiot [credentials mean nothing] whose beliefs are destroying the nation.

OR;

ANYONE, no matter the past, who realized as I did that liberalism only destroys. Who wants the America of the founders to survive. Who knows that the Bible trumps the Constitution and ANY MANMADE LAW. And, who will not bow to socialism, sexual perversion, or agressive atheism.

"AS FOR ME AND MY HOUSE...."

MUST READ black conservative!
This guy is the black Limbaugh! He is witty and funny, but educates from a different perspective. http://theblacksphere.blogspot.com/2009/05/republican-solu tion-to-winning.html I am confident you will agree...HILARIOUS!

Red Stater YOU can't be serious
Lowering taxes won't save the mom and pop stores. How can you compete with a corporation who buys everything from China? The South and the Midwest did this to themselves...you the shoppers are guilty of destroying main street. Manufacturing jobs are gone because people do not realize that what they buy have real consequences to them. Conservatives are sitting here complaining about the "good old days" and then turn around and defend their sacred Walmart which is so dependent upon Communist China, the two entities cannot exist without each other.

lilly, lilly, lilly, lilly, lilly...

No, I know that YOU'RE not making it up... it's that YOU did NOT understand the POINT!

The POINT being that there are SEVERAL SIMILARITIES between Obozo, Muhammad, and Hitler... and SEVERAL SIMILARITIES on MANY LEVELS!

NOW, I would STRONGLY SUGGEST that you go back and re-read the column... and do it WITHOUT (if possible) your pre-conceived lunatic liberal agenda.

Try to read WHAT IT ACTUALLY SAYS rather than what you WANT IT TO SAY.

Who knows, even YOU might learn something.

But then, perhaps not...

Walmart and China
Wal-Mart earned $315.7 billion in revenue in 2006

$22 billion was imported from China.

Do the fricking math.

Back to work until around 6 pm...

This WAS my country Part 1:
Where to start. America when I was still in grade school was a land of endless promise. Flawed in some ways, yes but not fundamentally. So some wizards of smart had to INVENT flaws and AMPLIFY flaws until the America THEY saw bore no resemblance to the land of my youth.

I am a product of strict Catholic schooling and the Scouts. Never made Eagle but did complete Life and made Brotherhood Member in the Order of the Arrow. The Order is for life.
We were a service organization but entirely VOLUNTARY.

I carried the flag twice at the head of the column in the St. Patrick's Day parade past the Cathedral and met the Cardinal there for the first of several times. Later I taught the religious awards program for older Scouts and Explorers. My second class included twins from Throggs Neck. Sea Explorers. One was a girl and the first (maybe only) female recipient of the Pius XII Medal.

When we went down Fifth Ave. people took their hats off as the flag passed and waved at the kids in dress uniform. Now there'd be a rabble from the Lavender Mafia flinging stale pizza at them probably.

Summer camps were two weeks trips to the central Catskills. Days on the lake, in the woods and around a fire. Lots of learning and growing went on. Learned the bow and rifle there and never put either aside. Saw my first raptor a Cooper's Hawk from a makeshift blind and made plaster casts of the bear tracks in the morning in front of my tent.

lily is much like one-of-the-bulk of a group of Indian-Canadians who heard a speaker in 1993 laud Canada's "multiculturalism" policy, where I found the same speech quite incomprehensible (for the record, that still-existing policy was dreamed up by Liberal government as divide-and-continue-misruling)

People get the government they deserve..
and that a majority (however small) of them vote for. Those of you who did nothing to advance a candidate better than McCain and then, in a fit of pique, voted against him are as much to blame as anyone. Given a choice between tweedledumb and tweedledumber, you have to vote for tweedledumb, or you get stuck with tweedledumber. Given that it was ultimately a two-horse race, a vote for anyone other than McCain was effectively a vote for Obama, and look at what we got. So, instead of just bitching about it now, get out and get involved to make sure we have better options next time.

This WAS my country Part 2:
As time went on for a total of 7 summers we started to see "underpriveleged" kids arrive in Scout uniforms with some fairly tough looking "Scoutmasters". They were "at risk youth" in a special program to expose them to life outside the city.

They tried to start a rumble the first day they were there. The stole gear every chance they got. They were GIVEN a clean uniform for each day of the week and turned them into rags. They had NEW sleeping bags, packs and tents!! They BURNED all this stuff the day they left. This was a precursor and a bitter lesson I never forgot.

We had some REALLY poor kids in our troop who would have gladly taken some of that gear off their hands. Some had older brothers in the troop and had to wear hand-me-down stitched up uniforms most of the time.

I remained as an Assistant Scoutmaster for about 3 years till college took too much time and eventually dropped out. I made some of the best friends I ever had during those days and wouldn't trade them for anything.

While my views and vision for the counry are different from your, I will agree that Ron Paul is the most consistent candidate. He walks the walk.

But I would be curious as to how you would answer this question. You have a vision for what you want for this country. So does the far left. The far left are not gonna get what they want because most people don't share their vision. Likewise there are just not enough conservatives who think like you think to make a majority.

There are a lot of people calling themselves conservatives but many could be neo-cons or blue bloods, etc. Even with all of those groups bound together you cannot get to a majority without getting moderate and independent voters to cut your way.

So is it better to have a Republican Party that is very ideologically pure but can't win a majority or a center right republican party that provides a counter balance to the center left democratic party?

Obama and his political team would love to see the Republican Party Swing Fully and totally to the right and that is why they have coronated Rush as the party leader. If people like Powell and Ridge and the people who think as they do feel they have no place in the Republican Party where do you think they are gonna go?

This WAS my country Part 3:
About this time I got the hunting bug big time. I remember having two GREAT archery pro shops in the Bronx(!!!) where you could SMELL the fletching, glue and cedar when you walked in.

I also got into black powder about the same time and used to go with a college buddy upstate to shoot. He didn't have a gun and I had no car so it worked out. We burned a LOT of powder up their. Smelled like incense.

NONE of that was questioned nor was I cast as a "militia member" for belonging to the NRA since I was 16 years old. This country has become a squishy and sickening place where the only SAFE bigotry is aimed at anything traditional or conservative.

Lilly, re post 26
Points 1,2,3,4, and 5. This is nothing but stereotyping. You have no proof of this what-so-ever. I thought conservatives were suppose to be the bigots.

Just cause you talk about equality don't mean you ain’t an elitist snob who wants to keep them you don't like on the other side of the tracks.

EXCELLENT BLOG

I would recommend that everyone read "theblacksphere.blogspot.com" Especially all of the liberals infesting Town Hall.

Liberals need to know, as someone else has pointed out today, that liberalism is anything but "progressive."

As I learned over many years liberalism only destroys.

Kevin how can we get more blacks to read your blog?

Renny is right. Since you spend all your time on TH, it's obvious you aren't contributing anything to anyone.

Nuff said. I've got work to do.

I am sure Rush as being a little tongue and cheek when said only come to me. And anyway it is good for ratings. Rush and Hannity are entertainers. They could not get elected dog catchers and in Rush's case his life story is hardly a model that anyone would want to aspire to.

There are no real leaders of the conservative movement now only talkers. If you look at Rush's prediction over time he has been wrong more times than he was right, but he is banking on his listers always being in the present.

Lilly...
Lilly, Lilly, Lilly.... Tsk, tsk, tsk.. What has jaded you so in your old age? As a self-proclaimed conservative, I find your post at 11:13 quite offensive. Apparently you don't know many true conservatives. I do. I don't, however, know any who wish to bring back Jim Crow laws. I don't know a single person who wants a return to segregation in any venue. I certainly don't know anyone who would speak openly about such a desire and, if he or she did, he or she would get an earful from me. I believe, as a conservative, a Christian, and an American, that all men truly are created equal. Skin color is not an issue for me. Culture is an issue for me. Let there be no doubt, but I understand that culture is not and cannot be dictated by skin color or ethnic identity. Your blanket accusations against conservatives is ignorant, wrong-headed and offensive. It seems to come from some part of you that never really grew up. Please refrain from making blanket statements and generalizations in the future. Thanks.

Brilliant sum up of lack of *integrity!*
and sacrifice of PRINCIPLE:

"What is a problem, is that those elbowing each other out of the way to cravenly get an invitation to an Obama State dinner will gleefully sacrifice their alleged beliefs, the loyal-opposition voices of Limbaugh, Hannity, Glenn Beck, and Mark Levin, and the rights of the American people, for a seat at that table."

Matthew
You haven't the first clue as to what Wal-Mart does. Wal-Mart is one of the greatest things that ever happened in our economy. You don't see that because you can't get beyond the talking-points about "Mom and Pop" being put out of business, or how Wal-Mart doesn't pay their employees, etc.

Let me ask you ask you a few questions Matthew:

1. When Wal-Mart builds a new Super Center, how do you think the store gets raised -- by magic? How many construction workers get paid competitive wages to build the place? Does "Mom and Pop" provide those kinds of jobs?

2. When Wal-Mart stocks their shelves, how do you think that merchandise gets to the store? How many truck drivers does "Mom and Pop" employ?

3. Where do the Wal-Mart trucks pick-up their merchandise? How many warehouse jobs does "Mom and Pop" provide?

4. See all the computers in Wal-Mart? How many IT professionals do "Mom and Pop" employ?

5. How many Accountants do "Mom and Pop" employ? Advertising professionals? Marketing professionals? Legal professionals?

6. When the "little guy" designs a new product and needs to get it to the market, what are his chances that "Mom and Pop" will buy his product from him and carry it in their stores? Do you realize how many wealthy people have been made because of Wal-Mart having the operating capital to give their new products a try? "Mom and Pops" are never in a position to do that. And when those people with the new products become successful, they open plants and hire people...it just keeps building.

And to add to all of that, when "Mom and Pop" do get put out of business by Wal-Mart -- there's a gazillion other businesses that they can get in to. Take a look around you Matthew -- you'll be surprised at what is really out there!

JMO51

I am enjoying your discussion with Chris and have a couple of things I'd like to address from your 12:53 PM comments.

Reagan ran as a pure conservative whose ideology resonated with a majority of the electorate at large - including independents and some Democrats. Remember that this was during a period when Republican legislators were even more rare than they are today - and just a decade and a half after the counter-culture movement. In other words, someone living at that time could make similar predictions as you about how out of the mainstream conservatism was.

It is not necessary for for the GOP, as a party, to have a large, loyal membership for a true conservative to win an election.

The GOP that Powell advocates already exists - it is called the Democratic Party. It would be hard to slip a piece of paper in the "void" that exists between Powell's "Republicanism" and the Dem Party principles.

In contrast, Obama is the most liberal president to be elected in my lifetime (I'm 55), but who ran as a populist and had the added benefit of a fawning media, collective white guilt, an unpopular incumbent, and an opponent who was, at best, a moderate.

I have little doubt that a day will come when even moderate Democrats will awaken and say, "My God, what were we thinking???"

other MAJOR promise Obama broke--ETHICS!
RE: April22, #76

I agree with your post, (of Obama's "lies and broken promises") except that you forgot the major one of demanding "highest ethical standards" of everyone in his administration. Obama's *hypocrisy* is appalling, such as among his very first acts of appointing the little TAX CHEAT, Tim Geithner!

"...The list of Obama's lies and broken promises grows daily.

1. Make Government Open and Transparent
2. Make it “Impossible” for Congressmen to slip in Pork Barrel Projects

Walmart built its empire by forcing all manufacturing to offshore into developing countries in search of cheap labor. I don't know why you think this is good for America.

The demise of America
What we are seeing now is just the tip 'o the iceberg'. The dumbing down of the american voter has produced the climate of dismantling
this once great country. You know the country I'm referring to, the same one that is being demonized by our new messiah. he has replaced our former Messiah in our America. Look how he bows to the muslim leaders, look how the great Brian Williams bows so delicately to him. Listen to the fawning of the media, especially the
journalists who have a 'tingling going up their legs' when the messiah speaks. Listen to former republicans like former Gov. Ridge and Colin Powell are joining the sermon on the mount who are criticizing their former party so self-righteously, especially Powell who would have loved to be president, but was forestalled by his wife because she was afraid her husband might be assassinated if he ran for the office. He's probably sorry now that he didn't try for it.
However, as each day brings more misery to our beloved country,
especially having its own president apologizing all over the world for all the misery this country has left in its wake. You know the kind of misery I'm talking about. The misery of giving the american people
the gift of freedom that is jealousy of the world. The misery of giving
the black people a part of America. The misery of sacrificing the lives of millions of our service people throughout the wars of this world to give OTHER people freedom without grabbing their territory. The misery of donating money and food to people around the world who are starving or as a result of calamities. The misery of this president who thinks he is 'the One' who denigrates us not only to the world, but to the same 'terrorists' who murdered 3,000 human beings on 9/11. Now that's change!
By the way, Janet Napolitano, I am a right wing extremist, who loves
this country with a passion. God Bless America, when He gets though with it.

Joel DOL 2:20
Compared to William F Buckley I dare say all of us are intellectual lightweights. Limbaugh and Hannity have something that Buckley lacked, however. That is star power and entertainer personality. You must admit that for the average American plebe Buckley's show was dreadfully dry and more akin to an Oxford debate than entertainment. Those of us who enjoy the intellectual give and take of British style debating can find Hannity's harping and Limbaugh's satire monotonous and predictable.

As for Glenn Beck, I enjoy his perspective but he tends a bit toward the alarmist side of things at times. If you are interested in listening to a voracious reader who brings on intellectuals of both sides of the aisle who know how to give and take in a civil manner you can find none better than Hugh Hewitt.

Lilly
QUOTE:"... Limbaugh said, in his usual definite, absolute manner, that Judge Sotomayor is a racist. In fact, in racial discrimination cases she found against the plaintiff (the person charging racism) 80% of the time---that is not the record of a racist judge, and many who said that of her have taken back their words." Have you checked out the Ricci case. Sotomayor's most infamous decision to date, which will probably be overturned within a few months making her 1 for 9 in decisions upheld under scrutiny? The case involved hard working firefighters who took a test for promotion. Everyone took the same test but according to the defendant (I believe that was the city of New Haven, Conn.) not enough minorities, namely African-Americans, passed the test. So they threw out the results denying those who prepared and studied hard and followed the rules and succeeded their rightful promotions. The suit was brought before Ms. Sotomayor's court and she found for the city of New Haven. That would put Mr. Ricci and company in the role of plaintiffs ruled against. Mr. Ricci happens to be a white male. Therefore, ruling against plaintiffs in a racial discrimination suit does not equal ruling against minorities.

Recall how Hannity mocked Ron Paul.
I understand and agree with the author's premise. I've been opposed to Neocons, RINOs and CINOs since back when those John McCain/Lindsey Graham types were called Rockefeller Republicans. However, that said...

I remember only a few months ago, back in 2008 during the Republican primary, Rush, O'Reilly, Hannity, Fox News Channel, etc., all ridiculed and mocked Ron Paul who has always voted in accordance with the constitution and fiscal sanity.

thanks
Joel for the programming tip. I'll check it out.

Lilly for the 11:43 am family values update

To Robert
You are right, they love to fantasize about bloodshed. Several TH regulars advocate the murder of all Democrats and give instructions as to how this may be accomplished. There is a post to this very thread anticipating the happy days of armed insurrection when "elected, appointed, and hired officials" (presumably of the then-deposed government) will be tried for treason and either hanged or shot. All of this, of course, strictly within the parameters of the Constitution!

I remember when Fidel Castro took over Cuba. My little baby that was sitting in my lap as I watched TV is now a middle-aged man so it's been a while but I remember clearly that Castro lined up members of the government he had deposed and had them shot. Sounds to me pretty similar.

All of these fantasies about murders, shootouts, and takeovers, all of these loving descriptions of private arsenals, and oh by the way the recent murder of Dr Tiller, and a few recent church murders, add up to domestic terrorism (or to happily looking forward to it). All in the name of patriotism and Jesus, of course. On the other side of the globe it's all in the name of Allah. Same difference.

It seems most here have missed the point
The point seems not to be that Limbaugh, Hannity, et. al. are using excessive language to oppose the current administration. The point is that they have always used the same tactics. Limbaugh has been on the air since 1988 and has not appreciably changed his style of satirical attack on leftists. Remember "femi-nazis"? Yet the hypocritical moderates like Ridge and Powell come to Rush for help in their campaigns when conservatives are politically riding high. Yet now when conservative politicians have lost their voice (and their spine) as well as political clout these same politicians attack Rush for the same thing they formerly wanted to be associated with. The Republican party did exactly what Colin Powell wanted in this last election and nominated the loudest moderate voice in the senate. Powell chose to vote for and endorse the most liberal man in politics. His argument with Rush is not ideological. It is personal. Because Rush dared to expose Powell's hypocrisy at choosing to vote race instead of party, ideology or friendship.

You are absolutley correct- but dont forget there are just as many nutbags on the left extreme as there are on the right.

COMMON SENSE by glenn beck
We went to see the Common Sense show with Glenn Beck in Houston. It was well done, a packed house and the audience gave him a standing ovation, unlike what the NY Times reported It was dispersed with humor and concern for our country. Glenn Beck said we should think of ourselves as the same people that were our Founding Fathers. They were ordinary citizens of England who fought against tyranny and sought freedom resulting in building a great country with rights to the people, not the government.

I have the confidence that we can take back this country and stop the growing government. The winds of positive change are blowing.

1. We the people will act and stand with our Bibles and guns, not hide behind them.
2. Obama's stimulus plan is failing, unemployment reached higher than he and Geither projected.
3. Congress did not approve funds for Obama's left wing promise to close Gitmo and foreign countries are not too crazy for them either.

4. Tax revenues are down this past quarter.
As Craig T. Nelson said, "I do't want to pay taxes for programs I don't agree with", as will many more Americans, I'm one of them.

5. A Liberal Supreme Curt Judge delayed the GM bankruptcy. Obama's GM plan may not work.

6. Rachel Maddow on MSNBC said one thing negative about Obama yesterday, I heard it.

7. The Tea Parties will grow stronger on the 4th of July. Our area's Tea Party is projected to be so large that it will be held on a large ranch, between 15,000-20,000 expected to attend.

8. More Democrats are aware they may be losing their elected office in 2010 if they don't stop spending, a Democrat from Iowa actually spoke out recently against government spending.

9. Obama will be a one term President.

10. The Dallas Cowboys will win the Super Bowl in 2012.

(The last one was added to make sure you are still awake)

Rush does not represent me in any way.
If he is the direction of the repblican party, i will happily vote democrat. He epitomizes everything that i think is wrong with the republican party. I am a fan of Gen. Powell - i truely hope that the republican party moves in that direction as opposed the direction of Rush, or Palin or the other "true" republicans. I want a government that governs from the middle - preferably, middle right, but mostly middle. But i can tolerate the extreme left more than the extreme right.

Ditto
Dear Sir,
Add me to your and Limbaugh's list of supporters. I worked for Gen Powell and he is absolutely intelligent and we often worried about his ability to relate to common sense. We know he understands values, but somehow the position has finally gone to his head and he is out of touch with the values of our nation and the core of our military men and women,
Keep it up.

While im not a President Obama fan, your list is exaggerhated. Your list is basically 2 points.

points 1,3,4 and 5 are essentially the same point, just reworded. As are points 2 & 7. I agree that he is breaking promises, but i think it would be more effective to use idependent points. Instead of rewording the same point you could use (off the top of my head):

Guantanimo detainees tribunal flip flop
Taxing health benefits
Changing his mind on the torture pictures

This is not a knock or attack - just some constructive criticism.

kleindo2, on Glenn Beck: "he tends a bit

You may have a point there!

Obama lies and broken promises
In terms of tone:
Obama promised to be a hope-filled change agent who could fix our politics
and "heal a nation."

He would do it by refusing to appoint lobbyists to his administration,
increasing transparency in government,
and forging new bipartisan consensus.

His campaign promised to strengthen government checks and balances by limiting the use of presidential signing statements, mandating public review of legislation,
and vetoing wasteful congressional earmarks.

Yet none of those promises survived his first 100 days.

And more broken promises (lies)
Gone is Obama's promise to remove all combat troops from Iraq within 16 months of taking office. Instead, Obama is embracing a conditions-based withdrawal that would leave up to 50,000 troops in Iraq until the end of 2011.

Similarly, Obama is showing a greater openness to free trade than he ever did on the campaign trail. Campaigning in Pennsylvania a year ago, Obama promised to renegotiate NAFTA if elected president, and opposed new free-trade agreements with Colombia and South Korea. But now, the Administration says Obama has no plans to reopen NAFTA and is pushing Congress to ratify the trade agreements.

http://www.philly.com/inquirer/currents/Obamas_first_100_da ys_littered_with_.html

I have to go back to work now but I am sure others can add to this list

Regarding Beck, paranoia, etc.
As a retired nurse who has seen a lot of paranoia in both the clinical and social settings, I maintain that it's not really paranoia if "they" really are out to get you.

It seems to me like our current administration is something to be righteously feared.

RINO hunting
I am not familiar with what Tom Ridge said, but Powell is a worthless piece of #$%!. I agree with Joel-De Oppressor Liber on Powell. It was Schwartzkopf and his staff of West Pointers who developed the "right jab, left hook" strategy for the Persian Gulf War, and Powell got a lot of magic dust sprinkled on him from Schwartzkopf's victory.

Powell's enduring contribution to the military that I can tell consisted of taking Weinberger's strategic doctrine and adding three or four pacifist tenets to it, most notably the concept of "exit strategy." It is a popular term these days, but if you think about it, it is an anti-concept. A military should think in terms of objectives and meeting the objectives, not exiting, which implies lessening the focus/priority on victory and worrying more about finding a pretext good enough to justify retreat.

Paradoxically, it also enables endless "humanitarian" boondoggles, because politicians can justify military action in their minds by visualizing a transformed, thriving utopia as a desired end state whereupon the U.S. can exit, rather than asking themselves the hard questions about what specific objectives does our nation need to have accomplished, whether military action can accomplish them, and whether it is worth the cost. Of course, a lot of notions go into bad thinking, but I think the "exit strategy" concept enables it. It is my opinion that this tenet has done serious harm to military science.

Anyway, Powell is a turd, and he can claim to be a Republican all he wants, but he should reconsider that smug, self-satisfied attitude he brings with it, because "being a Republican" doesn't mean you get to influence the Party agenda or platform--you have to earn it through the merit of your ideas. And he has nothing to contribute. (And he can take his "mandatory national service" ideas and stuff them).

re: JMO51 on moderates
JMO: "The far left are not gonna get what they want because most people don't share their vision."

Looks like they're getting most of what they want this year. There have been a few disappointments and delays such as the closure of Git'mo, but by and large they should be pleased.

JMO: "there are just not enough conservatives who think like you think to make a majority."

Yeah - apparently not...

JMO: "... you cannot get to a majority without getting moderate and independent voters to cut your way. So is it better to have a Republican Party that is very ideologically pure but can't win a majority or a center right republican party that provides a counter balance to the center left democratic party?"

One problem here is we probably differ on the definition of "center-right". I'd call the Reagan administration "center-right". Bush-41 was just about center. Clinton and W were center-left. Obama appears to be hard-left.

Given my definitions, I'd rather have a center-right gov't in power, slowly shrinking gov't, than to be pure and have leftists in power.

Part of Reagan's genius was in convincing the "moderates" to follow him, instead of running after the elusive center like the current GOP leadership is doing.

If the GOP continues as it has been for the last 20 years, I'll probably vote for an occasional GOP senator, but in general I'd rather see them get their butts kicked than win and do what they've been doing.

My lord.
The USA of our parents does not exist anymore? Thank god. My folks were born in the 1930s. Racism, extreme poverty, very few roads, people lived with several generations because of a zero safety net, air and streams polluted, women treated like chattel, families averaged 6-8 kids with every family losing a child sooner or later, no TV, no computers, the list goes on and on and on. Now, if you were white, male and middle class on the GI bill, the 1950s were a gas. But lets not kid ourselves here, our parents did not live anywhere close to the levels we do and everyone was broke all the time. You folks need to stop remaking the past, its over dude.

I'd Go Back in a Heartbeat!
My 32-yr-old son recently asked me what I wanted - he knew what upset me (current events), what did I want? I've been a longtime conservative; voracious reader; observer & commentator. He wanted me to 'just chill' becuz my principles/ideals were out-dated. I told him that the Fifties were actually STABLE, PROSPEROUS, SAFER for most Americans despite writings (& even the recent 'Reservation Road' film) that denigrated those times as 'sterile & conformist.' I'd be happy to go back to then! Since the Sixties there's been a culture war, Socialism pushing to the forefront & culminating in Obama (raised to front the ideology of radicals). SHOVE PROGRESS! Now everyone is SELFISH and TRIBAL, Common Sense is dead, Freedom is squelched, we're all poorer and less safe, and we're supposed to be HAPPY?! EVEN PUTIN warned Obama not to go down this destructive road!! Too many people TOOK OUR BLESSINGS FOR GRANTED and we all are SUFFERING/in Free Fall and it's not over yet! WAKE UP! WAKE UP!

Colin Powell is a gentleman...
However Mr. Powell is not cut from the same cloth as Mister Republican Robert Taft or Barry Goldwater. Colin admits to voting for democrats LBJ, Carter and Clinton... in addition to casting his vote for Black Marx. Regarding his military acumen the bottom line is Powell was an affirmative action general... but he's always been a nice guy and gentleman.

Rush isn't booting anyone out of the GOP, but reality is Colin Powell is the very essence of a RINO. A nice guy, but a RINO.

JM051 SPEW ALERT
JM051, this guy is an idiot, he obviously has his brain in his pants and can't keep his hands off it. What a dolt. Go away fool, far far away....Cheers

Ugh
I usually despise dogmatic reactions, but having heard the cowardly attacks members of the supposed "conservative" party throw at private citizens just reeks of the character assassination so typical of the left. After all, no matter your position in life, you can always feel better about yourself by insulting others right?

In any case, I refuse to endorse, vote for, or even listen to a "conservative" politician that insults Rush Limbaugh. It is not only cowardly, but extremely stupid. The left always tries to convince us that their view are "mainstream". It's about time we did the same, and the truth of the matter is, Rush Limbaugh is a hell of a lot more mainstream than someone like say, John Mccain.

Agree with Rowdy
Actually I also refuse to give the republican party any money, until Michael Steel retracts his criticism of Rush Limbaugh.

What is with all this cowardly pandering? I don't get it. Freedom is the radical concept - look at how easily young minds are swayed into socialism - tyranny and oppression is the standard amongst the human race. We cannot protect freedom by playing defense and pandering. Most Americans would agree with us if we had some Gonads and actually espoused our true commitments and feelings without fear, vs. the cowardly, pandering attacks on private citizens like Rush Limbaugh.

Oh yes, what a great America we live in, attacking private citizens for political gain is the NORM.

[Insert your choice of expletives]

Va has the right stuff
Thanks Vincent from Va you are spot on, any policitian that critizes Rush is no friend of mine and will not get my vote. We do not need nor want reach across the isle dullards including McCaine. We need strong stand up guys that will stand up to the thieves of the Dimocrap party, who are stealing the birth right of my grand children, and say no more. We must stop this madness and send the radical liberal communists into never never land and keep them there.

Keith in Oh.
It is obvious to me and probably everybody else reading this, that you are not a Republican if you have ever listened to Rush you would realize how much common sense and honesty he posseses both required to be a Republican. You on the other hand spew hate and lies with ever breath obvious Dimocrap attributes.

Powell and the RINOs
Powell went out of his way to endorse the most far-left candidate and President in this countries' history in Obama. And it wasn't like Obama was running against an arch-conservative in McCain. He was running against a Republican who did almost as much damage as the Democrats. And still Powell endorsed Obama.
Now the loathesome liars in the liberal media tell me I'm supposed to listen to Powell tell me how to save the Republican Party.
I don't think so.
I'll take Rush, Levin, Laura, Hannity, Ann Coulter, etc. over all the gutless RINO Republicans combined.

Rush Limbaugh flips, may support Sonia ?

Rush Limbaugh flips, may support Sonia Sotomayor

Politico-After calling Judge Sonia Sotomayor a “reverse racist” last week, conservative radio host Rush Limbaugh said Wednesday that he may now possibly support President Barack Obama’s pick for the Supreme Court.

“I can see a possibility of supporting this nomination if I can be convinced that she does have a sensibility toward life in a legal sense,” Limbaugh said during his show.

In justifying his flip, Limbaugh pointed out that Sotomayor is Catholic and “doesn’t have a clear record on abortion.”

Hinting that Sotomayor could possibly support overturning Roe v. Wade, Limbaugh said “whoa, it would be huge.”

“I don’t know if it will ever happen,” Limbaugh said, before claiming that the “opportunity” of her support in overturning the landmark abortion case could be enough to get his backing.

Despite voicing potential support, Limbaugh also said that he is not backing off his claim that Sotomayor is a “reverse racist.”

First - I dont really care if you consider me a republican or not, I consider myself an american, who happens to primarily vote republican. I dont care about party lines, if you say what i believe- you got my vote. Your entitled your opinion, same as i am. I have listened to Rush, and I never said he wasnt honest, i said he doesnt represent me, as i dont agree with many of his views. And i would like you to point out one statement i made that was "spewed with hate" that i made. Just one, please. The only hate spewed line i see is you attempting to insult me by calling me hate filled and a liar.

Again - All i said was he doesnt represent me, nor do i want him to. What lies or hate have a spewed - as you put?

This WAS my country Part 4:
Until about 17 years ago I was able to maintain a positive outlook and expected the future to be better than the present. That dimmed a little when Bush 41 was elected and promised a "kinder gentler America". I remember Col. Cooper yelling "I want a leaner meaner America Mr. President."

Then in 1992 the media threw away the last vestige of a pretense of objectivity with their campaign to ram Billy Jeff Clinton down our throats not once but TWICE. That did not start with the 2000 election cycle but they had perfected it by then. If not for Talk Radio, Fox News and the Web we'd have had NO alternate viewpoint available.

The fact that these outlets even exist gets the Nanny Staters' panties in a wad. Now I just pray for some relief in 2010 to slow the O'Vomit socialist juggernaut.

Soli Deo Gloria!!

Matthew, please....
....think!

You said

"Lowering taxes won't save the mom and pop stores. How can you compete with a corporation who buys everything from China?"

guess what, Matt? Go to any Fred Meyer, Target, Shopko, Ross, Sears, Best Buy, Sports Authority, JC Penney, and so on, all chain stores like WalMart, and see how much they buy from Asia.
Next, go to any locally owned Mom and Pop small business clothing store, gift store, etc and randomly select items and see where they're made.

That's right, Matt....China, Viet Nam, Indonesia, Cambodia, Sri Lanka....

If you think it's only WalMart, you're high.
And do you really think making gifts, sewing clothes, manufacturing sneakers, etc is what is going to make America great again? It is companies like GM, Ford, Chrysler, GE, Westinghouse, etc who have hurt the US far more by shipping manufacturing jobs overseas. Those jobs are not going to be replaced by us taking back the manufacturing of the cheap stuff we get from the Chinese.

And finally, I'll leave you with this: were it not for our buying billions in imports every year, we'd not be able to run on the deficits we do to pay for our increasing socialism. Who do you think is buying all of out debt, Matt? Why, it's the Chinese, of course!

Keith, I Am With You
Keith, I think you spoke wisdom. We had all better let go of our extreme craziness and move toward the center if we want to save our country. I am a Democrat, and I am inspired by Obama. But I am also inspired by Powell, and I might well have voted for him if he had run for President. Both of them seem pretty centrist to me. Anyone who thinks Obama is hard-left needs to read what they're saying about him on the left-leaning websites, mirror image websites of townhall. They think he's moved 'way too far right.

Palin and others of her ilk scare me to death. Her speciality seems to be whipping up a crowd until it is an angry mob screaming for the death of the opponent, and I don't see that as evidence of a competence to govern. Being "just like my next-door neighbor" isn't either. When she blew off that TV debate (and literally blew kisses) she showed that she would not follow rules and forms. Some of the folks in Dogpatch might think that's cute but she would have the world laughing at us after about one hour on the job. Governing all 50 states, dealing with economics and commerce, handling international diplomacy, waging war, and managing social issues requires a lot more than knowing how to p*** off the opposition and get your base to scream for blood. The woman doesn't KNOW enough.

lilly, gotta ask-if Obama is a centrist
who is a leftist?

lilly
"Palin and others of her ilk scare me to death. Her speciality seems to be whipping up a crowd until it is an angry mob screaming for the death of the opponent" Like most of your fever dreams about conservatives, lilly, this never happened. The liberals might be more convincing if they stuck to things Palin actually said or did.

Robert_AZ:Thank you. lilly has a problem

with "reality!"

"Palin... Her speciality seems to be whipping up a crowd until it is an angry mob screaming for the death of the opponent,"

lilly seems to like HER OWN version of what she wants to believe happened, rather than what actually happened.

What lilly doesn't seem to know (among a LOT of other things) is that Palin has actually MANAGED and GOVERNED... which is FAR MORE than Obozo has ever done.

I bet that lilly really believes that Palin actually said, "I can see Russia from my house." HA HA HA HA HA HA

The woman who doesn't KNOW enough is lilly.

Lilliputian has a very boring life
mostly dedicated to posting spurious remarks on a cons. thread she just doesn't get.

Palin actually governs the largest state in the union WITHIN its budget, commands the state national guard, can tell you the tensile strength of steel in an oil pipeline, talk about the life cycle of caribou, and raise a family of five at the same time.

King Elect O can't make the same statement twice and it's never factual or true either time.

For the Record
I declare 6/9/9 to be the official Dik Deerwood world "TIPPING POINT!" day. Whether liberal, conservative or independent - today is the day the world woke up!

Naysayers and weak-kneed take note: Iranians saying ENOUGH! to the bullies of the world, Pakistanis saying ENOUGH! to the Taliban and al-Qaida who kill their own and ENOUGH! to all the chicken-sh--- who hide behind women and religion for their selfish goals.

I realize many in the U.S. don't believe in war for many reasons - the biggest being the loss of their own children's lives as soldiers. But the reality is there are those who believe in war just so you can voice those opinions.

This is the day - June 9th - that no matter how one parses it, the insanity must be stopped at all costs. So get on the band wagon, get behind those who do the fighting for us and take out the bullies of the world. It's not their world ... it's ours! So get behind the changing of the "rules of engagement" so the good people can win over the bad people in this asymmetrical war on terror. Does it no longer make them good people - no! - just alive! The elegance is in it's simplicity.

So go get 'em! If I wasn't 66, I'd be fighting with you!

Dik Deerwood (Dick Rehwaldt)

Do you know how to work the Google button? Try it.

Saying that Sarah Palin "commands the Alaska National Guard" sounds impressive, but the reality is that their deployment in Iraq and Afghanistan did not involve her at all. A state governor "commands" the state's guard only when they are within the state, so the reality doesn't amount to much since Alaska hasn't had many forest fires or floods.

Palin is governor of the largest state but the one that has the smallest population but for North Dakota and Vermont. Lots of wide open (empty) spaces.

Her state budget was terrific as long as oil prices were up, but they're not up any longer and her state (which wallows in federal money BTW) is not riding as high.

As for raising a family, her son was in trouble with the law for doing vandalism (got discreetly sent away Stateside during Senior Year while Mama was running for Governor) and took Army as an alternative to jail, and her daughter got knocked up: classic signs of this mother being absent to her children and the children acting out. Palin used her children as campaign stage props, keeping them out of school and letting them sit for hours in Green Rooms. Please. Be serious.

But, hey, what am I saying. I'm a Democrat. By all means, nominate Palin for President of the United States. Cool. Brilliant idea. Go for it.

For Vincent
"Actually I also refuse to give the republican party any money, until Michael Steel retracts his criticism of Rush Limbaugh."

The RNC has had trouble raising money ever since they lost the 2006 elections exactly because the RNC continiues to promote moderates, liberals, and RINOs in the party but the base that makes the donations is conservative.

They keep calling me for money and I keep telling them I refuse to support a party that would nominate John McCain, would choose Arlen Specter over John Tunney to run for Senate in 2004, that gives a seat at the table, and a mike, to Colin Powell after he endorses Obama.

Today's GOP is a party of conservative 'little people' being told what we must believe by a cabal of country club elitists who are really embarassed to be associated with us but need our money and our votes to keep their jobs.

Today Rush Limbaugh played a "sound bite" of "Republican strategist" Michelle Laxalt from "Hard Ball"mon MSNBC.

Laxalt: I think that you're seeing an internecine warfare that started between Cheney and Powell over policy differences many years ago, you're seeing inside ball. I couldn't disagree more with Rush Limbaugh, excuse me very much, I don't think he has been elected even dogcatcher as yet and as a Republican, I don't want him as part of my party.

No Michelle, I won't excuse you. You're exactly the kind of elitist snob that's ruining the party. You haven't ever been elected dogcatcher either, AND NEITHER HAS COLIN POWELL, but you think it's OK for you to bash Limbaugh and for Powell to bash Cheney.

Cheney won 6 elections to the House and was ELECTED by his peers to be Chairman of the House Republican Conference and then House Minority Whip.

What elections has Powell ever won?

Lilly
>As for raising a family, her son was in trouble with the law for doing vandalism (got discreetly sent away Stateside during Senior Year while Mama was running for Governor) and took Army as an alternative to jail,

Again, you get military and a story wrong. Her son was not involved in the vandalism of school buses. It has been discredited. The military will not take a recruit by court order.

>Palin used her children as campaign stage props

And the Obama's didn't.. Goodness if I have to hear about another Gap outfit Malia and Sasha wore. Or hear about the private school they are going to while Barack Obama does away with school choice for D.C. children who urgently need it. Or see another people or us weekly... Don't start on using your children in a campaign. Her child was a sore subject for your side, because your side made a RIDICULOUS unsubstantiated charge that it wasn't hers. You can't stand that she has principles and lives them.

Despite snowballing reports and rumors, Sarah Palin's eldest son, Track, was not part of the gang of four teenagers who criminally vandalized
44 Alaska school buses in 2005, a key culprit told The News.

"Track wasn't with me. Track had nothing to do with it," participant Deryck Harris, 20, said Wednesday in an exclusive interview.

Citing an anonymous judicial source, the Anchorage radio station 1080 KUDO was the first to report last week that Track Palin was the unidentified 16-year-old delinquent who not only trashed the buses but also swiped the bottle of alcohol that fueled the teen rampage.

The National Enquirer will report his "involvement" in the "notorious" attack in its issue out Thursday.

"I was friends with him. We hung out. But he wasn't there," Harris said, describing the incident as a senior prank gone awry. "It was my high school mistake. It was a really bad choice. I've paid my restitution."

Lilly has absolutely no credibility when it comes to military issues. Everything that comes out of her mouth on these issues are either a half truth or a lie. If she thinks that military disabled are taken care of in "grand style" she is delusional. She has said that she fights the "sterotype" of stupid military families. She has cited that the miitary has the highest suicide record in history which is not true, and now on this board repeated the proven falsehood that Track Palin joined the Army to get out of jail for vandalism. She also made sure that a poster not sugar-coat war and please remember all the villages and innocent men, women, and children we the military has killed. If there is anything military in Lilly's post, I suggest(no I urge) you tune it out.

The good, the bad and the ugly (I)
Wiseone (#2): "Today's GOP is a party of conservative 'little people' being told what we must believe by a cabal of country club elitists who are really embarassed to be associated with us but need our money and our votes to keep their jobs." My hat is off to you, well said!

Lilly (#9) wrote, "Anyone who thinks Obama is hard-left needs to read what they're saying about him on the left-leaning websites, mirror image websites of townhall. They think he's moved 'way too far right." Obama's voting record in the U.S. Senate prove in black-and-white that he was the most liberal-left member by a considerable margin. That some leftist websites and individuals believe he has moved right only proves how extreme they are.

Lilly (#37): "You are right, they love to fantasize about bloodshed. Several TH regulars advocate the murder of all Democrats and give instructions as to how this may be accomplished."

Lilly, were you equally indignant during the eight years of GWB, when it was almost a daily occurrence for screaming leftists in the street to call for GWB and members of his administration to be killed, and when more than one Hollywood movie 'fantasized' about his death? Somehow, I suspect not. In any case, you can't paint all of us with the same brush just because one or two nutjobs committed crimes. Collective guilt exists only in the mind of deluded liberals.

The GOP Has Been Neo-Conned to Death
Ron Paul says it best in this expert analysis of the origins of Neoconservatism and its link to Machiavellian thought...

http://www.lewrockwell.com/paul/paul110.html

Until these Neo-Cons like Bush I & II, Rummy, Cheney, Limbaugh, Hannity, William Kristol, Newt Gingrich, Coulter, McShamnesty, Wolfowitz, and other endless warmongers are eliminated from the GOP, the GOP will continue to rot on the vine. The wars and un-Constitutional nation-building in Iraq and Afghanistan were for no other reason than to establish permanent bases to protect Israel and keep a check on Iran and prepare to invade Iran. Endless wars cost endless money and are immoral. Even Dobson is a NeoCon now! If these Neo-Cons really cared about your safety here, they would have secured the border and deported anyone who hails from a Muslim country.

GOP Embraces the New World Order
They've been doing it since Bush I. All of you GOP diehards could use a good ol' Constitution Party lesson on genuine Conservatism because the GOP has so fried most of your brains with their "Conservative" talk but never honestly criticizing New World Order talk. Did Limbaugh or Hannity ever mention all of the New World Order references in Bush I, Bush II, and McCain's speeches??? Check it out for yourself...

...not O'Reilly
there's something about O'Reilly i just don't like or trust. When he had the opportunity to interview Obama - before the elections - he threw softballs. All he did was "mention" Wm. Ayers & Saul Alinsky - and then went on to something else. He should have told the audience who these people are (were) and challenged BHO.
O'Reilly's not in Rush, Sean or Mark Levine's class, at all.

GOP Now Trying to Co-opt Tea Parties
There is a George Soros-esque bigtime GOP fundraiser who has stated that he wants to back the Tea Parties. It's an attempt by the GOP to steal the thunder. After all, if you're not a Conservative party, a bunch of hypocrites fooling the masses playing the Corporate Whore in DC, it certainly pays to silence your TRUE CONSERVATIVE critics who can embarrass you and put you out of business by revealing the truth of your crimes and illegitimacy. GOP-RIP! The GOP is just another sellout party. You GOP diehards wouldn't know CONSERVATISM and CONSTITUTIONALISM IF IT HIT YOU SQUARE IN TH EYE!

Motherlode
>not O'Reilly

I completely agree on him. His ego has become unbearable also. I mean if I have to hear about his ratings one more time on his show- I think I will turn my T.V. on MSNBC on mute just for the hour he is on.

PLEASE EXPLAIN
Will someone please tell me why anyone should give a damn what 'Colon Piles' thinks?
By the way, some of the responders here seem to spend(waste)a lot of time fixing labels to people and/or groups that are ephemeral and not well defined anyway. My advice is to spend that time stating the plain truth. That way someone's personal perspective of any given label won't distort the message.

My problem with O'Reilly is he seems
quite willing to use the power of government to force people to behave in ways he considers right. Although I generally agree with him on what constitutes right behavior, I completely disagree that this is a proper role of gov't.

I have the same problem with Huckabee, and to a lesser extent, Hannity.

Real shame about Huckabee too - since he's a big supporter of both home-schooling and the FairTax.

Oh well...

Rush = Osama
They both broadcast silly little non-sense audio deep within bunkers. Both men are nothing but cowards.

Both Rush & Hannity
are a large reason for the demise of the Republican party. Yeah they may be popular to maybe 10% of the country and particularly those of you who are susceptible to the fear those two espew on a daily basis.

Truth be told, yes, Republican and Conservatives have some good foundational ideas for argumenting how government should be run...

The problem is how those ideas are articulated. Some 60% of the country do not like Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity and Ann Coultier and other radio bunker "shock jocks" (another 30% don't know or care who they are) Free speech yes, but bad for both the Republican party and America as a whole.

You guys have no one to thank but Rush, Hannity and YOURSELVES for the rise of Obama and the demise of the once proud Republican party.

THEY WANT & NEED OBAMA TO SUCCEED
Rush, Hannity, Fox News and talk radio in general NEED Obama to succeed to keep their listeners and viewers. How else will they get their ratings? I ask you to look at the ratings of Fox, Hannity or Rush in 2006 compared to today. I guarantee they are 20%-30% higher. They all secretly want Obama to succeed and stay in office for the next 8 years. It is bad for business for them if a Republican wins the white house in 2012 (hypothetically cause it ain't gonna happen)

Rush's ratings were remarkably higher in the Clinton years then in the Bush years, now there even better in the Obama years.

Unfortunately Rush, Sean and others will choose higher ratings then help fix the Republican party.

I would
accept the political views and comments of Howard Stern before listening to Hannity and Limbaugh on a daily basis.

Angry Old White Guy
Waaaaah! Another pissed-off old man who's still upset that coloreds can use the same restrooms as him. That tired old dishrag of a book sounds like it wiould be a great companion volume to the 'Left Behind' series. This column reminds me of the refreshing fact that the mean age of both Limbaugh listeners and Fox viewers is 67. See ya later dinosaurs!

Thomas's false stats
Thomas... I have seen that stat on several liberal posting sites. Your beloved Huffpuff has the stat at 84 years old. Your hero KO supposedly has an average viewership age of 59..not spring chickens. Radio and television are two different forms of media as well and the median age is much different. I will not bother posting factual links to the real data. You will not read them and do your own research.

The majority of the youth do not pay any attention to the news, so why would they tune in?

News channels across the spectrum are seeing older audiences tuning in.

Did you happen to notice a fact that liberal sites failed to post about the "median age" Maybe this will clear some things up..

"The broadcast networks have grown older than ever — if they were a person, they wouldn’t even be a part of TV’s target demo anymore.

According to a study released by Magna Global’s Steve Sternberg, the five broadcast nets’ average live median age (in other words, not including delayed DVR viewing) was 50 last season. That’s the oldest ever since Sternberg started analyzing median age more than a decade ago — and the first time the nets’ median age was outside of the vaunted 18-49 demo.

Fueling the graying of the networks: the rapid aging of ABC, NBC and Fox. The three nets continue to grow older, while CBS — the oldest-skewing network — has remained fairly steady.

“The median ages of the broadcast networks keep rising, as traditional television is no longer necessarily the first screen for the younger set,” Sternberg wrote."

What about the Rush Babies?
EVERY DAY a young sounding caller talks about raising Rush Babies and a lot of college age callers chime in. The archaic stereotype of the "old bald white guy" is the product of the immaturity of the poster.

He sees ANY conservative as his Dad telling him to clean his room, get better grades, fill the gas tank, get a job and GET OUT!! Then he focuses his rage at the authority figure of his father and replaces it with a generic "out of touch old guy conservative".

Check out conservativepunk.com for YOUNG conservatives en masse. What twerps. BTW, I'm 52 and have listened to Rush for nineteen years. I came to listen because I learned from other sources that there was a guy in the media who took up MY side and didn't ridicule conservatism but espoused it.

Powell,closet Democrat O a closet Muslim
Now that the Rookie is safely the President, he can act out his Muslim influences. Obama is his fathers son! There is no reason why a strong military Powell would trust our Country to an 'Amateur in Chief', especially one with long time ties with enemies of America! Fickle Powell wanted to be in the winners parade. Mostly, he rooted for and identifies with the 'black' President and you know the rest of the story, Ha!

Thank you chris. Well said. Many people don't even make it to the point of finding out others views on an issue. If you won't do things the way they want, it doesn't matter what you believe

I want the country I knew BACK!!!!!
I want to be able to park my Jeep along a country road, stoke up my flinter and head into the woods for a 5-11% chance of even seeing a deer without having to worry about some spiky haired loser in a Che shirt slashing my tires and riding off on a Smugmobile plastered with Greenpeace and Vegan stickers.

I want to be able to gas up the Jeep or the Aston without some self-righteous overeducted punk giving me stink eye.

I want to load up the grill on Independence Day with MEAT, CHICKEN and FISH and not get a lecture about meat being "murder". I also want to shoot off some rockets AND my cannon but that's another issue.

I want to be able to canoe or kayak peacefully down a river without having to warn other boaters that there's a gaggle of hedonists in full orgy mode (literally) on a makeshift raft around the bend. More than once on the Delaware. Usually round the end of college term.

I'd like to be able to talk to co-workers who also shoot about a bowling pin match without getting the "urban terrorist" stare from the wussy crowd.

Is all that TOO much to ask?

And Thank God it does NOT
As far as I’m concerned, the United States of my parents and grandparents no longer exists and the far-left will ensure that it does not exist in our “history” books for my children to read.”

That US was RACIST, who would want that again?

I want the BEST of our yesterdays
We've learned a lot of lessons in the last 40 odd years..a lot of good has been gained..BUT
We have thrown out most ideas of individual responsibility, social courtesy, self reliance,
faith in GOD, common sense & civility. Yes, I want the 'good' of our yesterdays to return. When children were merely children and not exploited by Ritalin obsessed teachers.
When education was the purpose of schools..not indoctrination. When the terms 'boys N girls' weren't psycho-babbled to death. I'm 55 years old and I remember the 'good' of our yesterdays. Bring it back!
