Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

To paraphrase world renowned environmentalist Smokey the Bear, only YOU can stop the hate-filled liberals, their unethical handmaidens in the media, and protect your nation in the process.

When asked several months ago, why he might be considering voting for and supporting the Republican nominee for President, Connecticut now-Independent Senator Joseph Lieberman said quite simply and truthfully, “because this is the most important election of my lifetime.”

Joe Lieberman was born during the middle of World War II.  He has lived through the Korean War, the Cold War, and Vietnam.  With that life and experience behind him, he still said what he said.  Why?  In a word, terrorism.

Contrary to the smug and biased beliefs of the liberal media, the American electorate is astute and up on its current events. Voters recognize that terrorism is not only the defining issue of our time, but one that will most likely be with them for the rest of their lives. With that understanding, most of these voters -- like Lieberman -- know that no one will be stronger or tougher on the issue of terrorism than John McCain.

In conversations I've had with past Pentagon colleagues as well as some of the current crop, a recurring worry has been relayed to me. It is this: If Barack Obama wins the White House, what happens to the Bush doctrine of basically killing these terrorists where they stand?

The biggest fear of many of these Pentagon and military officials is a fully reconstituted al-Qaeda -- or other terrorist organizations that have sworn to strike deep into the heart of the United States with nuclear, chemical or biological weapons. What, they wonder, will happen, if -- in conjunction with canceling the Patriot Act and ending or curtailing many of the tools needed to monitor those who have promised to kill us -- a President Obama decides that the Bush doctrine against terrorism is morally or ethically objectionable?  Should that happen, how long before these terrorist groups are back to full-strength?

With John McCain, most of these Pentagon and military officials — and most of the American people — know exactly what they are getting. They know they would be getting a president for whom war is not a theoretical or academic exercise.  But rather, a part of his life experience and wisdom.

The hate-filled liberals and their propagandists in the media understand that as well.  They know, that with regard to the defining issue of our times, John McCain makes Barack Obama look like the highly inexperienced “Professional Candidate” that he’s become.

So, to divert the attention of the American electorate away from the obviously unqualified Obama and this critical issue, the far-left and their assistants in the media, have recklessly decided to strike out from their home base in the gutter and shamelessly -- but entirely predictably -- attack Governor Sarah Palin and her daughter.

If you had started an office pool to guess as to when liberal “feminists” would falsely smear the accomplished Governor from Alaska, you would not have even had a chance to flip over the hour-glass before the attacks began.  Spearheading the assaults were Maureen Dowd of The New York Times and Sally Quinn of The Washington Post.

When I asked a respected Washington media personality about the Dowd and Quinn offensive against Governor Palin, this person said, “Look, to a large extent, Dowd and Quinn got where they are professionally, not based on their talent, but rather, based on their liberal views, their looks, or who they married.  Maybe they are reacting to their own insecurities when they go after a conservative woman who has actually done something to positively affect the lives of real people.”

No matter the reason, the disreputable attacks on the McCain-Palin ticket by false-feminists, the liberal wing of the Democrat party, and the liberals who control the mainstream media, are going to continue right up until election day.  That is a given.

As these liberals and much of the media try to hijack this election, the American people need to step back from the far-left cesspool, breathe some fresh air, and ask themselves the question that the highly respected Senator Lieberman has already answered.  That being, “With regard to the national security of the United States, the State of Israel, and our allies, who would the terrorists least like to see get elected?  McCain, a man who would use basically any means to hunt them down where they eat, sleep, and plan.  Or Obama, a man who would treat them as criminals, strip our military and intelligence services of the ability to question and monitor them, and prosecute our own intelligence operatives for “mistreating” proven enemy combatants?”

All who are honest about this subject know that the terrorists would least like to see McCain get elected.  It is for that very reason, that Lieberman has put country before party and is working to elect a man exponentially more qualified to protect our nation.

As the far-left in and out of the media continue to attack a child, the American voter needs to remember the ultimate truth:  Only YOU have the power to stop the hate and decide “the most important election of our lifetime.”  Vote.

Let me Tell you about Hate Driven
For the last 25 years Rush Limbaugh has had
a corner on hate driven. And his wannabes
(unfortunately they are legion but they tend to
show up on Town Hall) are only making America
an increasingly unpleasant place to live.

Rush and hate...
Ah, yes, that great American terrorist Rush Limbaugh who has driven hundreds of the dittoheads to fly their airplanes into liberal meeting places...

Limbaugh is an entertainer who has a point of view. Come to think of it, he's the anti-Chris Matthews.

If you really think Rush is a threat to our society, and is on any level as dangerous as those who take the more violent interpretation of the Quran, you need to change your meds.

Why Hasn't...
The current administration captured or killed Osama Bin Laden ???

Frankly, he and Al Qaeda may have already won the war.

Just by getting away with the 9-11 attacks till now.

"Killing these terrorists where they stand" ... give me a break.

Bush has created far more terrorists with his misbegotten criminal invasion and occupation of Iraq.

Sadly, under Bush, the U. S. has lost any semblance of moral authority.

We Can Only Save Our Country
By enforcing our laws, unfortunately neither R or D candidate is willing to do that. Hast la vista, estados unidos.

never ceases to Amaze me
I am 45 and have spent all my adult life in uniform serving our country. It never ceases to amaze me that some people in this country think America is the evil country. They think we "create terrorists" and our wars our "illegal".

they hate America and Americans. Fortunately most of the people I meet on here or in my day to day life understand that America is the most overwhelming force for good the world has had for the last 230 + years.

We defeated a great evil in Saddam Hussein. We stopped genocidal Killings in Bosnia and Kosovo. We overthrew the Taliban that beat women in the streets for not having the proper head coverings AND the taliban allowed terrorists to openly build bases in its countryside. We crushed the Al-Queda in the place where Bin-Liden claimed was the central front in the War and sent him scurrying to a cave.

In John McCain we have a man who will hunt him to the end of the earth and his VP is an excellent shot!

Tinsldr2
First, thanks for your service. I spent a career in the Army and another in civilian law enforcement. Much of my time in the Army was spent countering and defeating various guerrilla and terrorist groups in Central and South America. Many Americans have no idea how close to victory those groups were, or what it would have meant to have hostile nations to our south. Sure, they may think of Venezuela, but they forget the wars in El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Peru, Panama, Colombia and other latin American countries. Thankfully, Ronald Reagan stood with our allies and we defeated the communists and other subversives there. (After the wars, I lived for years in latin America, and I know how grateful the people there are for the support of the USA during those difficult times.)

But today America faces a different threat, one to which Obama and his ilk give little credence. When I heard Obama poo-poo Iran as a threat because it is a "tiny country", I thought of how, on 7 December 1941, the tiny country of Japan threw a crippling punch at the United States. Today, military might has little, if anything, to do with whether a country is tiny or not. Hell, the bulk of our terrorist enemies aren't nation-states anyway.

In any event, we must stand firm against terrorists, their sponsors, hostile nations and their allies, and we must show resolve in dealing with them. Now is certainly not the time for the dog-squeeze sort of "leadership" that Obama and his ilk might muster.

We need McCain & Palin
Thank you both for your service. Well we know who Hamas, Hezbollah, North Korea, Iran, Russia, Cuba, Islamic Jihad, and China wants to win the White House in the worst way. If Obama wins the terrorists will be making that disgusting " lululu" sound and passing out candy. That says it all.

Night and Day
The gulf between liberals and conservatives is increasing almost daily.

I was thinking of responding to some of the leftist kooks here, but thought, "Nah, not worth it."

Tinsldr2 - thank you for serving our country and I concur whole-heartedly with your excellent post!

To: The7Sticks
Honestly, this is all you worry about? You're right to be perverted? For cryin' out loud, no one is going to ban your porn. Sheesh...so many issues in this country and you worry about Playboy not coming to your mailbox.

So Move On...
To: The7Sticks

Have you considered relocating? To another country?

Contradiction in terms?
Isn't the phrase "the liberal wing of the Democrat party..." somewhat - tautalogical?

Piligrim
It should have been states as the "communist" wing of the Dem party as opposed to the mearly socialist wing.

America's biggest threats
# 1 - Democrats
# 2 - Mainstream Media
# 3 - Trial Lawyers
# 4 - NEA
# 5 - RINOS
# 6 - Islamists

Prety much in that order.
PS - Dowd and Quinn are ugly and angry. I wonder if they are ugly because they are angry or is it angry because they are ugly ?

What is a Communist "Organizer"?
Er.."Community Organizer" ? Is that a Job ?

Quinn & Dowd
Dumb too...

Smokey Bear
It's not "Smokey the Bear", it's Smokey Bear. Is it Peter the Rabit? is it Santa the Claus?

Feel Free to Move to France
Steven: Don't let the screen door hit you in the butt ! Giving you the benefit of the doubt, so as not to think you are a total idiot. I am assuming that you make such stupid statements because you are furnished bad information by the Liberal media. Of Course, if you had an abundance of smarts, you could find the truth elsewhere.

Really, Doug?
"...no one will be stronger or tougher on the issue of terrorism than John McCain."

I might believe this were it not for one fly in the ointment. Open borders. Border Patrol has been warning us that hundreds (if not more) olive skinned people are sneaking into the U.S. via the Mexican border. Middle Eastern illegals are coming up from Central America where they are able to mix in with the general population. It is believed by some in law enforcement that we now have large active cells of terrorists, maybe Al-Qaeda maybe others, who are living in the U.S.

If this is true, they are not here for economic opportunity. They are here because they are planning attacks on American citizens that some of us will be the victims of.

In spite of all this, McCain still favors a lax approach to border security. In this day-and-age, this is a fools folly. If McCain becomes president, he will answer for this.

Taft
Name one.

oh my
I love this column. It and the comments so far sum up one of real problems in this country. Consider this:
Steven, a liberal brings up Rush.
1udaqudguys, a conservative declares that ridiculous in the light of the 9/11 terrorists.
Egon, a conservative, places the MSM as the number 2 threat (second to the Democrats, of course) while the terrorists make a poor showing at 6th.

This demonstrates perspective that is stretched to delusion. (1udaqudguys, this is your queue to show you’re fair minded)

MacKinnon is propagating the myth of a hate driven enemy of the state. It is the TH equivalent of KOS’s hate driven “Christian Taliban”. Neither is true nor representative of the citizens of this country. They serve only to stir up the faithless, the cowards and the truly hateful.

Let’s face it. They are as much of “The People” as we are. The rhetoric shown here is either self-serving or worse, sick minded. It’s corny but true that we have nothing to fear but fear itself. Yes this election is very important but not in the way commonly expressed. McKean is no more a conservative than Obama is a liberal. If they each took a few steps to the opposite side, they would switch places completely.

I urge all to have faith and courage and reject MacKinnon’s (and similar) assessments.

Taft.
As a liberal you would be an expert on lieing. The lib monkeys are really howling.

Be glad I'm not the President.....
Because the liberal trash who seem so comfy living in the gutter, would be doing exactly that, because people who act treasonously would be finding themselves deported and their citizenship stripped - if you don't love this Nation to the point where you obstruct her proceedings and work toward her demise, you need not be here, period. I'd throw them out on their butts - maybe drop them off in Syria where they can whine and complain that the SYRIAN GOVERNMENT doesn't do quite enough for them. I'm fed up with the whole lump of garbage they call the "left" - call it whatever you want, but if you put lipstick on a pig, its still just a pig. There's alot of pigs in this Nation and they NEED TO GO.

i tried to get real discourse at kos
after making my conservative points they switched me off and denied my ability to post comments or reply...so much for open-mindedness.

doesn't exist at kos, not by a long shot.

MikeR: Left vs. Right and Hate
When you get to hate, the left is _deluded_.

Rush hates? Right-wing talk radio hates? (The average) Right-wing conservative hates?

Hate is a buzzword thrown around by the left as if it is a magic spell (Expecto Petronum!) to squelch discussion.

Hate is not a strongly felt opinion that you don't like. Hate is wishing your opponent ill.

Give me examples where popular radio show hosts like Rush, Praeger, Medved or Ingraham, wish the left ill.

Are there those who hate? Yes, there are, but those people are denounced by the mainstream right and is nowhere as common as that on the left.

The proof is to compare the "hate" level on TH with the Daily Kos and the Huffington Post. Try to have a serious discussion with the left on those sites without getting kicked off. What percent have copious amounts of expletives?

Another proof is the number of patently false, despicable lies from _the Democratic leadership_ attacking the right, e.g. "Republicans want to take your Social Security away" and "Republicans do not care that children go to bed hungry". Some of these come right from the House floor!

You claim that the "right is afraid that the left is the enemy of the state"? That is a strawman argument. The right does fight the left's attempts to shove their views on the public without legislation or Constitutional amendments.

It's hard to have a serious discussion with those who argue by twisting the meaning of words.

The7Sticks: IS there no end to your

irrational comments.

And, btw, when was the last time a Christian beheaded someone????????

Yeah, that's what I thought........

Loony left VS loony right
One side would doom this noble experiment in human liberty known as the USA, whereas the other would "doom" those who are working so hard to twist, destroy and otherwise erase the values and traditions our country is founded on.

The teaching at my church last night was from Psalms 36 in which David describes his enemy with verses 1-4. It was so appropriate to hear, preceding the masterful speech of Gov. Palin.

"There is no fear of God before his eyes, for he flatters himself in his own eyes, when he finds out his iniquity and when he hates.
The words of his mouth are wickedness and deceit; he has ceased to be wise and to do good.
He devises wickedness on his bed; He sets himself in a way that is not good: He does not abhor evil."

King David worshiped in the Old Testament way, asking many times, "Get 'em, God!" Jesus teaches us that we need to pray for our leaders, our country AND our adversaries.

Christians are required to love one another and our enemies, but that doesn't mean we'll stand by and let them do evil.

I love that Gov. Palin has a servants heart, so unlike those she referred to last night with self-serving hearts.

"wjrii" RE: "HATE" L vs. R
The comparison which makes the point most clear to me is that of PROTESTERS AT THESE 2 CONVENTIONS.

Free speech, fine and good. Dissent? Likewise.

WHAT'S BEEN GOING ON? Hardly...just hate and violence...supression and intimidation. THAT IS "THE LEFT" OF TODAY.

Disgusting.

TX Gal: Well, if you "hate" TH so much

why do you come here????

You could just as easily log onto Kos and Huffy, where there is NO hate.... HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA

But, TH doesn't rip down your ridiculous posts like they rip down Conservative posts of Kos and Huffy... What do you have to say about that?

It certainly appears that there is a direct correlation between left "hate" and left "stupidity."

wjriii
I know, and I’m not going to sugar coat what happens at KOS and Huff, but go to Red states if you want to see the conservative equivalent. No, I will always say that one of the reasons TH is the best is because of the level of decorum.

Rather my point is that your examples are not the average for liberals and that for each attack point of theirs that you listed, a similar one is being raised by the Republicans.

Next, consider how Corndog expressed it in his 9:04 post. He expresses hatred in the strongest terms. Does that mean that conservatives are a hateful people? Does he speak for you? Or look at Janet’s comment. Basically, if she were in power, the opposition would be eliminated. I’m sure she thinks she’s a patriot trying to save her country, but her actions spell the end of freedom and of the nation she’s trying to save.

Otherwise, I never said "right is afraid that the left is the enemy of the state". Be careful with your use of quotations. I said that one of the uses of such rhetoric is to stir up the cowardly and that both sides do it. I do not believe that the right as a whole sees the left as an enemy of the state.

To Steven and 7
Steven Rush has only been on the air 20 yrs., and please give me an example of the "hate driven". 7 please grow up, I lived in the 60s and the 70s they were not idea, they were filled with hate, booms going off, high crime. All the things the great society brought us, and still is. 7 someday you might just have a daughter like me, and I do not beleave you would like to see her in your mag.
Doug, loved the column.

MikeR
Do you approve of the daily, drip by drip, name calling and character assasination by democrats against Bush and his administration? From my perspective, in place of attacking their positions on policy matters, democrats have labeled and name called. (dumb, nazis, liars, stupid. evil, sick etc.) Unfortunately, such tactics have received world wide exposure leading democrats to then point out over and over how much the world disrespects America.

Liberal Venom
One thing has always puzzled me about liberals. If they hate the United States and our government system as much as they profess, why do they continue to live here?

There are many countries of the world that would be happy to take them. Mexico and Russia are only two. If I hated the U.S. as much as they say, I'd find somewhere else to live.

On the other hand, I doubt if they could find anywhere to live that they would like unless they were the dictator there.

Foreign Hatred for the U.S.
One thing I have always found interesting about the "foreign hatred" of the United States and its people. The ones expressing this hatred can't wait and would spend anything they have to get here.

TX gal
You haven't seen hate until you go on huff or Dkos. I joined huff post to blast Obama and let them all in on a little truth. No vulgarities, just facts, and my post was never put on. You're lucky to be on TH.

The libs hate truth. It burns their ears. So they immediately call Rush a hatemonger. He's actually a truthmonger. Any rational thinking human could never vote for Obama if they took into consideration his socialist tendencies. He would pose a national security risk just by occupying the oval office.

loco
No I’ve have spoken against such tactics so many times that I have been asked to drop the subject. I oppose such action no matter what the source or target. Any realistic appraisal of even a site as modest as TH will provide plenty of examples of all those words and worse being directed at Democrats. And remember that just because onside does a thing doesn’t make it ok for the other side to reciprocate in kind. That too is an excuse we hear from both sides. My main point is not to refute that such behavior exists, but to say it is not representative of either side. Consider 45caliber’s 11:29 post. He asks why liberals continue to live here if they hate the country so much. The answer is that they don’t hate the country. They may even love the country as much as some of the folks here who would destroy freedom in order to save the country.

MikeR: Re: Left vs. Right Hate
I live in a strongly red state. I do not see hate.

You claimed hate as expressed by visible public conservative figures. I gave counter-examples of visible public liberal figures. You then switched to say that average liberals are not not as bad as average conservative liberals.

Are you dropping your charge that visible liberals are more hateful than visible conservatives?

Would you please give examples of "average" conservatives expressing hate more than "average" liberals?

I would agree that average liberals outside of closed liberal bubbles (like New York, higher education, and journalists) are not as extreme as the visible public liberals. But that was that wasn't your point.

I couldn't find Corndog's 9:04 post, and I would agree that Janet's post is out there. However, do you mean to paint all conservatives based on 2 posts?

Regarding my quote, I apologize. I misquoted you. Your exact quote is "MacKinnon is propagating the myth of a hate driven enemy of the state." Even though I got the words wrong, the intent was accurate. That was your statement, not a quote of MacKinnon. Quoting your statement is entirely appropriate.

I stand by my point. The right does need to fight the predations of the left. The left is trying to twist the meaning of the Constitution because they know that they can't pass legislation or Constitutional amendments to effect the changes that they want. If you want to quibble over "the left" meaning activists or the average liberal, I will clarify that "the left" means activists, as your charge was directed at visible people.

MikeR: Oops! My mistake
In my response to your post, please replace

*** "Are you dropping your charge that visible liberals are more hateful than visible conservatives?" ***

with

*** "Are you dropping your charge that visible conservatives are more hateful than visible liberals?" ***

Anne and jimmis
"Well, if you "hate" TH so much why do you come here????"

I didn't say I hated TH. In fact, I have a morbid fascination with it.

"You haven't seen hate until you go on huff or Dkos. I joined huff post to blast Obama and let them all in on a little truth. No vulgarities, just facts, and my post was never put on. You're lucky to be on TH."

I rarely go to DKos, sometimes I read HuffPo, but never commnent. But face it..... There is "hate" coming from BOTH sides.

wjriii
I think I understand now. I don’t think right wing radio talks hate and I don’t think Rush hates. When he makes joke like his “I’m dreaming of riots in Denver” song I think it’s just another joke in bad taste. My initial comment was how a liberal claimed that Rush had a corner on hate and how he was rightly corrected by a conservative. Yet right after that another conservative did the same thing. I used these as examples of perspective stretched to a ridiculous point.

And no, I do not mean to say that conservatives are worse than liberals in any way. What I am saying is that there are some on both sides who use identical tactics.

As for MacKinnon, I don’t know his heart so I can’t asses his motives; but his actions are clear and I put them on par with what is found on KOS. I’m saying that there is no such thing as a “hate driven enemy of the state” (at least in the domestic sense). MacKinnon may believe so, in such case he’s crazy, or he may be doing it for profit or out of petty revenge, but the motive does not change the situation.

Do you remember when some on the left would claim there was a “vast rightwing conspiracy”? It wasn’t true yet now we have some on the right claiming there’s a left wing conspiracy. MacKinnon’s claim of a hat driven enemy serves the same psychological purpose as the liberal claim of a Christian Taliban out to turn us into a theocracy.

wjriii
Oh and I’m sorry that someone flagged Corndog’s 9:04 post. I don’t like when a post is removed and I don’t agree with the practice. I say let all see it for what it is.

Deflection
Of course libs want to paint conservatives as 'haters'. It is called deflection. When conservatives tell the truth about lib lies, we are 'haters'. When conservatives dare to base their choice at the ballot box on experience, loyality to Country and honor, we are 'haters'. When Obama and his ilk stop hating everything American, the world will be a better place. I know REAL hatred when I see it. I think most libs can't even begin to admit that their hatred of everything conservative is a form of mental desease that crys out for proper treatment. Failing that we need a special place for all those haters on the left. I say we reopen Patton Mental Hospital and put most of the left coast where they can't hurt themselves, the Country or anyone else. Rubber rooms are the final solution.

MikeR: Hyperbole
"Enemy of the State" is hyperbolic. However, the essence (watered down) is the same.

Liberal desire a much different America. I hope that we can agree to this degree.

The right sees liberals as:

- wanting to remove religion from public view.
- breaking down the importance of the traditional family.
- forcing liberal morality on all, e.g. homosexuality. This is not to say the right want gays persecuted, only that their private lives is that, private.
- wanting government to provide a cradle-to-grave no-fault, painless life for all, concentrating on equality of outcome, rather than equal liberty for all.
- controlling the behavior of all according to the philosophy of the liberal elite, e.g. diet and health (trans-fat, obesity, smoking, etc).

Several of the above have definite Constitutional problems, and all of them are significantly different from the concepts that the right believes made the US great.

From this, you can see how one could make the hyperbolic statement that the left is an enemy of the state.

Hate
Conservatives do have hate. They hate anyone who tries to attack America's freedom, whether that be terrorists, communist or left wing loonies.

Liberals have hate as well. They hate America's Christian roots, conservative's higher moral stadards, the free market, and conservative's free speech.

Basically, liberals hate themselves.

Do you know

Do you know the difference between a liberal and a pile of manure?
The answer: The manure has value and a use.

Reply to Ed Wallis, Comment 30
Yes, I noticed the lack of violence or destruction of the protesters at the Dem. NC.
I saved the video of a young lady speaking with a policeman. Her body gestures were in no threatening; seemed only to be speaking to/at him and I could not hear the words. She wasn't
"in his face."
He attacked her, giving her an uppercut blow to below her chin with some sort of weapon in his hands.. billyclub or rifle, knocking her to the ground. I was shocked! I hope she didn't suffer serious injury. It sure seem unprovoked
Those protestoers were NOT BREAKING WINDOWS, SETTING FIRES, OR COMMITTING OTHER UNLAWFUL, OUT-OF-CONTROL ACTS such as the rabble-rousers at the Rep. NC were/are doing. It is my personal belief that a number of those were hired-hands.
I believe I heard about 800 of them were arrested. I don't think I counted 800 demonstraters at the Dem. NC, and I doubt more than a handful were arrested.
So, looking back at the stark difference between the groups of protesters, I deduce that each group was following the leadership qualities of the party THEY WERE PROTESTING ON BEHALF OF......not the Party holding their
particular Nat'l Conv. I find that pretty revealing.

It’s All They Have
It's All They Have
We should not be kind in the condemnation of the DNC running-dog lackeys’ attacks on Sarah’s credibility: after all, It's All They Have. It just sux to be a Democrat right now: no real ideas, no fathomable spirituality, and no safety nets under the platform. Surviving the media warthogs is the least of Mrs. Palins’ worries, I think, because the cattiness of the femi-nazi is just getting warmed up. Next, from the worst of them in The View, we’ll hear that her shoes don’t match her skirt (by the way, did you notice that at the GOP acceptance speech last night that a pantsuit was not present?) or, perhaps the media darlings will endlessly discuss the temerity her second youngest daughter displayed to kiss and play with her baby brother when she should have been listening to the speeches: but then, after all, It’s All They Have.
McCain/Palin ‘08
See You at the Polls!

wjriii
I know what you mean and in some ways I do agree. It is this view of what America should be that gets the paths crossed. In most of the cases you list I can understand the anxieties of both sides and counsel for a centrist position.

I think the genius behind our success (and yes, we have the most successful form of government that ever existed) is that we find ways to work it all out. We have gone through a period where cooperation and understanding are almost nonexistent. MacKinnon is one of the voices opposing cooperation and understanding. I disagree with such thinking when it comes from either side.

There is only one real problem. When two people go to shake hands, one must always extend their hand first.

Jack provides us with another good example. He claims he knows real hatred when he sees it. He claims it’s all deflection and that conservatives are called haters when they tell the truth. And just what is this truth?

Obama hates everything American.
Liberalism is a form of mental disease.
They should be locked away.

Put simply, he makes hateful statements under the guise of showing how hateful liberals are. He’s not being a hypocrite. He’s stretching his perception to a ridiculous level. This was my opening comment.

Hate-driven conservatives
Steven is right. Liberals hardly have a monopoly on "hate-driven." For some time now, I've been visiting Town Hall and other conservative sites in an effort to understand assumptions on the right. One of the things that has struck me again and again is a lack of self-awareness---or more properly movement awareness. I wonder if people like Mr. MacKinnon have ever really listened to the likes of Savage or O'Reilly or considered the hateful stereotypes of liberals in the writings of people like Coulter.

And then there is the subject of lies. Conservatives seem to assume that the whole liberal movement survives on lies and distortions and that conservatives have a monopoly on truth. My observation has been that liberals, as a group, are far more fact based. Conservatives, by contrast are far more faith based (in both the religious and secular sense) and often cling to myths and "attack the messenger" when challenged with facts. The global warming arena is the classic example. Liberals, for the most part, hew to mainstream science on this topic, but many conservatives---apparently assuming that the science threatens their extreme faith in the magical free market---throw out ridiculous rejoinders (e.g., disparaging the "alarmist" musings of Al Gore and his liberal Hollywood friends).

You say that liberals are more "fact-based," but my observation has been that liberals are more emotion-based. Conservatives tend to be more rational. Yes, I occasionally see some vitriol spewing from a post by a conservative here, but most of it comes from liberal posters. As I commented on my blog (http://fiddlesticks.blogtownhall.com/), I've heard enough about the venom at DKos and Huffington, and I've seen enough here to conclude that most of it comes from the left.
BTW, concerning the global warming debate, the whole idea that conservative dissent about global warming and its causes is not scientific is prejudicial and untrue. And we aren't the ones comparing those who disagree with us to Holocaust deniers.

Different strokes/different folks.
My opinions only:
I go back to pre-WWII, through the war, the
conflicts, the economic/political ups/downs and this Democratic Congress has EARNED it's pitiful approval rating (3-6% in my group of
independents.)
I do speak out against what I perceive as the Democrats using the MSM as lawnkeepers for their WELL MANURED-FERTILIZED BACK/FRONT YARDS. I suggest if they want to throw dirt, they out to start with themselves with their own yard.
The Senate investigated McCain for Presidential eligibility, HE PASSED. THEY PASSED OVER OBAMA, and we citizens have yet to see a valid birth certificate for him to show HIS LEGAL ELIGIBILITY. After many, many months, I personally believe he DOESN'T EVEN POSSESS ON TO BRING FORTH!
If he did....why show what appears to be a Certificate of Live Birth, which isn't the same. It can be issued long after the birth. Hawaii is a US state, what's wrong with showing his Birth Certificate from there......if he has one?
CAN'T ANY AGENCY OF OUR GOVERNMENT MAKE SUCH A DETERMINATION? ON WHAT GROUNDS WOULD HE BE ISSUED A HIGH SECURITY CLEARANCE?
Quayle was demeaned for mis-spelling potato. Trent Lott was vilified for just giving an OLD fellow Senator a few words that would uplift him, or Judge nominees 'vetted' into longevity
Look at the arrogance of Pelosi; "They, they, they, they'll have to use their imaginations as to how to get a vote!" (of Republicans who wanted a stand-up vote on the oil crisis before leaving for 5 weeks.)
HER house passed 290 Bills; 30% for name P.O.'s, one for a watermelon month, and BY VOICE VOTE (no one held accountable) that infamous "Global Poverty Act!" Yet allows a stand-up vote between some Indian tribe and casino.
And this Senate/House, according to their calendar will have worked 8 months and get paid for 12, since they are taking off for ALL OF OCT, NOV, DEC.

"Burn me once, shame on you; burn me twice, shame on me." I'm Independent.

MikeR: Extending hands
It is nice thought, and I wish it were as easy as extending hands and we all come away happy.

Neither side need demonize the other. There are honest people on both sides who want to improve the country.

The problem is that some issues are so fundamental that there is no win-win solution.

Abortion or not. Approve 1 of every 2 abortions? Approve abortions up to 4.5 months into the pregnancy? Either you believe that the fetus is a person, or you don't.

How BamBam voted

Will someone who knows how to do it, please go to the Senate records and seen how many bills, of all kinds, that Bush signed, that BamBam voted yes or no.

They say McCain voted 90% with Bush, but no one has said what BamBam has done.

Smokey Bear
Someone posted a correction about "Smokey the Bear"... In the 1950s, it was "Smokey the Bear" and there was with those words...

Trivial perhaps, but one of culture and my era.

66 year old grandpa.

There's WAY TOO MUCH wishful thinking...
... in America today.

Lefties wishing America had never been created, Righties wishing the Lefties would all vanish from the earth tomorrow, even-loonier Lefties wishing all conservatives were their slaves... I could go on and on.

So many people wasting their time wishing for things they'll never have, instead of paying attention to their real lives...

Ah, abortion, the great touchstone of political thought. Does it really all come down to that? Would you vote for Bill Clinton to take a third term if he promised to fight abortion and every other candidate supported abortion?

Really, I hate the death of a child, born or unborn. Unfortunately, our government has afforded me the opportunity to step over many a child’s body; so I have a somewhat more pragmatic view of the issue. That aside, even here we have room for compromise. What has been a major issue with Obama? Not abortion as a whole as much as the issue of partial-birth abortion. You want to outlaw abortion? Great. While you’re at it can you outlaw terrorism too? Just get that law passed and we can all sleep easier.

I’m not making light of the issue, I’m being realistic while you are now tilting at windmills. You are right; it can never be a win-win. It will always be a lose-lose; but in the end, we will still have to live with each other.

MikeR: Just an example
I know that abortion is a hot topic. That's why I gave it as an example of an issue that can not be a win-win.

I'm not here to argue abortion. I don't need your flippancy. Who has their hand out and who's using their hand to blow a raspberry?

As I said before, there are honest people on both sides. Both sides deserve respect.

Fear Monger
"what happens to the Bush doctrine of basically killing these terrorists where they stand?" There never was such a thing, or we would have followed the Terrorists into Afghanistan and stayed there until the job was done. Instead, we invaded Iraq and started taking everyone's toothpaste at airports. While the bush whitehouse is breaking their arm patting themselves on the back for "driving al-quida out of Iraq" they ignored the people that were the actual threat. Not to mention that there was no al-quida in Iraq before we got there. So now, in the name of security and in the name of the "freedoms" that they hate us for, we should be willing to forgo the privacy afforded us in the constitution and let republican big government tap our phones and search our homes with no cause. NO. that's not how it works. Quoting Ben franklin, "Those who would give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety." He was right. You, "my friend" are a fear monger.

I’m not being flippant. I’m being completely seriously. Abortion is not just a lose-lose issue. It’s a lose-lose-lose issue, one of the darkest aspects of our civilization. I have very little hope that we will ever resolve it.

TX girl
I doubt many liberal democrats paid much attention to the Repupblican convention, except for the rioting protesters, presumably Obama supporters. (over a thousand arrested) If you did see it, you saw a few hecklers and hate-filled demonstraters trying to disrupt the convention.

I did not see this happen in Denver when they were worshipping Barack Hussein Obama.
