Was the Copenhagen Global Warming Summit Walk-Out a Win for the U.S.?

As we stand on the cusp of 2008, the Republican Party remains stuck in the throes of an identity crisis. Most Republican voters have an intuitive sense of this—even if they don’t quite know what to do about it.

GOP voters sense a party without direction, one that has drifted from many of its core values in order to preserve power or placate perk-hungry voters. They also sense the high stakes, which explains their widespread discontent and indecisiveness: They’re afraid of making the wrong decision at a time when they feel they really need to make the right one.

I know the feeling. I felt it myself.

About this time last year I carefully evaluated the candidates for the GOP nomination. It was a nerve-rattling experience, particularly in the still-fresh wake of the 2006 elections that swept Democrats to power. I considered many factors in selecting a candidate, but two in particular stand out a year later. First, I wanted to support a candidate who would unify the Republican coalition. Second, I wanted to support a candidate with a track record of extraordinary leadership.

I found such a candidate in Mitt Romney.

As Iowa voters prepare to cast the first votes of 2008 this week, I wanted to retrace the steps of my thought process in the hopes of convincing Hawkeye State Republican - and independents - in New Hampshire, South Carolina and all across the country—to support Governor Romney.

Romney Unifies the Republican Coalition

To hear the media tell it these days, one might think the three parts of the Republican coalition—military conservatives, economic conservatives and social conservatives—are distinct entities with irreconcilable agendas. In fact, the Republican coalition has worked together to propel GOP candidates to victory in 5 of the last 7 presidential elections—Ronald Reagan in 1980 and 1984, George H.W. Bush in 1988 and George W. Bush in 2000 and 2004.

Of course, not every Republican ascribes to all three “legs” of the “stool.” But over the past 27 years, most Republicans have understood that the independent fate of each of these legs is inexorably intertwined with those of the other legs. So sometimes an economic conservative may not be a social conservative but might support a candidate who is in the hopes that the candidate will advance a free-market agenda. And so on with various other permutations.

In a country of 300 million people, this is how politics works. And for Republicans it has to work this way because there simply aren’t enough military, economic or social conservatives who can, by themselves, carry a candidate to a national victory.

In evaluating the candidates, I determined that Governor Romney is the best candidate to unify the Republican coalition—and therefore the most likely to defeat Clinton or Obama in November. He is a strong military conservative who has spoken eloquently and forcefully about the threat of radical Islam; he is a dependable economic conservative who wants to extend the Bush tax cuts and believes in the power of free markets and free trade; finally, he is a social conservative who understands the importance of family values and a culture of life. In short, he is a friend to—and a unifier of—all three parts of the Republican coalition.

Romney Is a Proven, Extraordinary Leader

In my many years in the business world, I have seen firsthand the importance of leadership. I have seen companies succeed and fail, often due to the leadership capabilities of their executives.

This year alone we have seen both great triumphs of leadership (General David Petraeus’ oversight of the surge in Iraq) and great failures (former Attorney General Alberto Gonzales’s ham-handed management of the Justice Department). So when it comes to choosing a president, I place high value on leadership experience.

Thankfully, the Republican field has plenty of candidates with notable leadership experience. Nearly every major candidate is a proven leader, and many have overseen governments or other organizations in times of great peril. But only one candidate, Governor Romney, has the breadth of leadership experience that I believe our next president needs.

Governor Romney not only has government leadership experience as Massachusetts’ former chief executive, but he also has private sector leadership experience. Governor Romney spent the majority of his career at Bain Capital, building a world-renowned private investment firm that helped birth companies such as Staples and Domino’s Pizza. He also rescued the Salt Lake City Olympics from an ethics scandal, thereby bringing honor to our country with one of the finest Games in recent memory.

It is Governor Romney’s experience at Bain and the Olympics that truly sets him apart from his competitors. He has seen, firsthand, the ups and downs of the business world. He understands the symbiotic relationship between competition and efficiency, and grasps the detrimental impact that high taxes and government regulation have on businesses. Most importantly, he has made a career, both in the private and public sector, of making the touch decisions, of being the person with whom the buck stops.

As the recent assassination of Benazir Bhutto in Pakistan makes clear, the world remains a very dangerous place. The next president will have no time for a warm-up; he must be ready to lead on his first day in office. Governor Romney’s blend of public and private sector leadership, and his record of extraordinary success, make him the right man to do just that.

The Right Man at the Right Time

Governor Romney’s ability to unify the Republican coalition and to provide effective leadership on his first day in the White House differentiate him from his GOP competitors, and position him to beat the Democratic nominee in November. I urge my fellow Republicans in Iowa and elsewhere to support the right man at the right time for our country: Governor Mitt Romney.

romney cannot be trusted to tell truth
slick rich mitt romney cannot be trusted to tell tthe truth!

slick rich mitt is a pathological liar....and not a good one either!

He lied about an NRA endorsement,

he lied about illegal workers on his lawn:

He lied about seeing his liberal RINO father marching with Dr. King,

he lied about being a life long hunter,

he lied about raising fees but not taxes for mandatory abortions and other healthcare services, and killing embroyos.

Nuff said.

Sam- the only way Obama can beat
Romney is if they never debate.

Obama is naive and inexperienced, and accustomed to getting softball questions.

Sam- Cut-N-Run Ron will never win
so you may as well give up now.

Resistance is futile!!!

Sam you are very ignorant
in your facts and knowledge. Mitt is incredibly well-qualified to lead this country. He has led many businesses and government positions to success. It is utterly laughable that you would even compare Obama to Mitt. Please don't our intelligence as conservative voters. Unless you are from "the other side". Although I see you are a Ron Paul fan. I won't be like every other person and call him a crackpot or whatever else they call him. Ron's views on certain, very certain issues are correct but he is wrong on Sooooooo many other issues to be a conservative. He is a libertarian and should run as their candidate.
I have a front row seat to the Iraq war and he and many other people are very wrong about their thoughts on the people over here. The surge has been a great success we are talking with many people that used to be fighting against us as they realize that Al Qa'ida isn't their friend either. The military loves Mitt and has alot of support over here.

Hairy Cornpone - How liberal could
George Romney have been if my Leftie Mother hated him so much? She hated him almost as much as she hated Ronald Reagan, Barry Goldwater, and George Murphy.

So you and your little Cut-N-Run Ron tag team can go try and spread your misinformation elsewhere.

I wonder...
where all of you are going to go when Mitt wins the nomination for the Republican Party? I'll say this that probably 98% of Mitt's voters will still vote in the election if Mitt doesn't win. We will vote for another Republican candidate, however, I think that all of your hatred towards Mitt is blinding you all of the bigger picture and I am afraid that you'd sit out to try to "prove your point" like so mant did in '06. Look at what what that got us-Pelosi and Reid and MORE important the Democrats feel empowered because they won because some of you wanted to "prove a point". Get serious about your country! There are alot of us over here in Iraq dying for you to vote back home and we would hope that the American public would take it more seriously. At least here the Iraqis have higher turnouts than Americans do. I love my country and I hope that ALL people on both sides will get out and vote even if their initial candidate didn't come thru. I know that's what Fred, Duncan, Giuliani, and McCain would tell their followers. I am not so sure about the Huckabee camp?? I hope you prove me wrong.

Great analysis...
hope everyone read this piece, including the Democrats and especially Huckabee supporters. I pray to God that He grant them a wise decision this coming Thursday. Lastly, may America unite as one strong country once again.

Romney Rules!
Ron Paul Drools!

Just kidding, he wouldn't have an honest, descriptive website.

@Mountain Rose
Dear Mountain Rose:

George Romney was against the war in Vietnam-and ceetianly he was nota conservative. Moreover, he even said he had been "brainwashed" into iniationally supporting the war, and he changed his mind.

So yes, George Romney was a liberal.

and no,I have not a Ron Paul supporter.

Hairy Cornpone
OK then, who do you support?

Three Romney flip flops in one video
See the real Mitt Romney:

Pro-Choice
Anti-Second Ammendment
Anti-Reagan/Bush

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Elx3UWmyAY4

Romney supporting amnesty:

The Lowell Sun 3/30/2006
"With these 11 million people, let's have them registered, know who they are....those that are here paying taxes and not taking government benefits should begin a process towards application for citizenship."

Romney supporting abortion on demand:

Boston Herald Debate 10/29/2002
"I will preserve and protect a woman's right to choose and am devoted and dedicated to honoring my word in that regard."

Boston Globe, 10/15/05:
"Governor Mitt Romney has signed a bill that could expand the number of people who get family-planning services, including the morning-after pill..."

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P_w9pquznG4&feature=related

Now I've heard of flip flopping on a single issue, but this guy is an across the board flip flopper.

Clearly, the only thing Romney believes in is his own lust for power. He is the epitome of a pathological liar. There hasn't been a more psychotic and dangerous man in a US Presidential race since, well, Joseph Smith back in 1884.

Mark knows his stuff ...?
Joseph Smith died in 1844. Wikipedia is your friend. You were only off by 40 years.

Anyway, you point out 3 issues. 2 of which relate to abortion. NEWSFLASH - Romney has changed his position on abortion. He has explained it time and time again. It's not new and it's nothing he is trying to hide. He has apologized for it and is now firmly pro-life (which he was always personally - just didn't think gov't should get involved to overturn a SC ruling). The 2nd quote actually shows that he was keeping a campaign promise.

As to the amnesty thing ... he should have taken a harder stance as it relates to illegal immigration. I wish he was more Tancredo on the topic. However, what he proposed or suggested was nothing close to the McCain/Kennedy plan. He also denied instate educational benefits (which Huckabee supports) and driver licenses for illegals. He empowered state troopers to verify residency status. Huckabee/Giuliani didn't do that - McCain certainly wouldn't have taken that approach.

So while Romney is far from perfect, he does represent the best chance for conservatives to tackle HRC and retain the WH.

Huckabee says Romney is ‘dishonest’
Is Huckabee right?

PI-Mike Huckabee called chief rival Mitt Romney “dishonest'’ today for what Huckabee said were gross distortions of his record, and said voters should question whether Romney would tell the truth if he were elected president.

“If a person will become president by being dishonest, just remember, if he becomes president, he likely will not be honest on the job,'’ Huckabee told voters at a restaurant campaign stop.

So apparently distressed at Romney’s criticism, Huckabee refused even to commit to voting for Romney for president if the former Massachusetts governor wins the Republican nomination. “I would never vote for a Democrat in the presidential election next year,'’ Huckabee said. But asked if he would prefer an honest Democrat to a “dishonest'’ Republican, Huckabee refused to answer.

Boortz is right
the biggest liability Ron Paul has, besides his cut and run stance on the Iraq war, is his supporters. This column provides us with ample evidence that his fans are just plain nuts. Yes, I'm talking about you, Sam.

Wonderful piece
I am so glad to read a supportive piece about Mitt Romney...how he is the most qualified of the candidates and indeed, does unite all factions of Republican voters. I've felt almost alone in my support of Mitt (Mountain Rose has been one of the other regular supporters here, although I didn't forget about Spiceman). I'm SO GLAD to hear from our military poster that many in the military also support Mitt Romney.

WAKE UP, PEOPLE! MITT ROMNEY HAS A PROVEN RECORD OF OUTSTANDING LEADERSHIP IN THE PRIVATE AND PUBLIC SECTOR! HE HAS NO MATCH IN EITHER REPUBLICAN OR DEMOCRATIC PARTIES. Let's ALL support him!

Mom in Wisconsin

for Sam
Sam writes: "Obama would beat Romney - landslide"

I agree, but Obama is not going to get the Democrat nomination. Hillary is.

And that will neutralize the Iraq War as an issue. Because Hillary VOTED for the Iraq War, as a Senator. Romney was not in Congress. Hillary is actually MORE responsible for the Iraq War than Romney is. In fact, she is more responsible for the Iraq War than any Republican candidate except McCain.

The real problem with Romney
The real problem with Romney is his basic unlikability. Romney likes to tout his business CEO experience. But that's actually going to backfire with working class "Reagan Democrats."

Romney reminds them, and reminds me, of the corporate CEO who restructures companies by laying off hundreds of workers. I was laid off once, and Romney reminds me of the CEO who issued my pink slip.

That's one thing that separates him from Reagan. Reagan never forgot his humble working-class roots, and in 1980 he spoke with compassion for the unemployed. To Romney, they're just figures on a PowerPoint slide.

Huckabee got pretty far, on a shoestring budget, because he came off as someone who cared about average people. Romney does not.

Please allow me to translate...
"Mr. Romney showed a complete lack of core beliefs, proving we in the GOP could twist, turn, and distort him into any shapeshifter we want for the moment, and his willingness to "write the big check" sealed the deal. And that HAIR, are you KIDDING me?"

Mitt
Nice article on Romney, but Mitt was governor of a state that boasts the likes of John Kerry, Ted Kennedy and Barney Frank. Does anyone really believe he won the state's governorship by being conservative.

The Best Reason
To support Mitt is that he'll restore the GOP's moral authority. There's article out today that McCain is being supported by big corporate bundlers. Huck's on Judical Watch's top 10 crooks of the year. He's also obstructed every probe into his ethical lapses. Now, out of desperation he's personally attacking Gov. Romney. If there's one word that won't stick to Romney it is the word dishonest.Campaign puffery is not dishonest.Look at how Hillary has exxagerated her foreign policy experience.Sipping tea with an ambassador's wife isn't foreign policy experience.Speaking of foreign policy experience I think it's necessary to find the Pakistan/Afghanistan borders on the map. There's more to securing the southern border than nabbing Pakistanis with shoulder fired missles.

Excellent article!
Doug,

I agree completely with your article. If we can only be so fortunate to elect a man of Romney's calibre?...................(oh wait, I forgot, he's an evil mormon, so I'd better check out what all the "religious" bigots are saying against him)

Huckabee the huckster.
Huckabee uses a planned out, holier then thou attitude, to bash his opponent most of the time without substance. We just had 8 years of Bush bashing, instead of call Romney cheap names, liar, dishonest, insincere, etc, Huckabee should talk more about what he plans to do. The more I see the Huckster, the more he turns me off. I would say Romney is more transparent and upfront. I let lifestyles speak for themselves. Romney’s life has walked the walk. My children would benefit from emulating him more then these phonies who say their personal life don’t matter, that it is what they do a politicians that count. What a rank excuse for personal failure. They are the same person standing in front of crowds selling a bill of goods as that person who rolled out of bed that morning. Only the circumstances and clothing have changed.

I love this
Every time somebody writes a favorable article about any of these fine candidates a whole cross section of conservatives proceed to slam the guy up one side and down the other. Some might complain that we're tearing ourselves apart, but I maintain that that is a great thing. We need to be tearing ourselves apart right now, especially right now. We're just 4 days away! Let's keep the debate at a fever pitch until we have a candidate. That will be the time for all of us to come together and support the candidate in the general election. But now, let's keep it going.
I don't have any particular problem with Gov. Romney, though he does have some lib tendencies. One thing I worry about is the fact many christians view mormonism as a cult and therefore will not vote for Romney under any circumstance.

Can't fool everyone!
"Romney’s ability to unify the Republican coalition..."

You have to be kidding? Romney has split the party, not unified it. Moreover, articles like these perpetuate that split because they artificially try to prop up the guy. This alone is evidence that he cannot stand on his own. What you should have said is that "He can fool some of the party all of the time...."

Someone, please
Provide a quantifiable definition of victory in Iraq. We've already sacked the capital and deposed the despot; how many boots on the ground are needed to pursuade the warring factions to view themselves as members of a greater Iraq who are best served by embracing western secular forms of government? Our abiding presence in Baghdad enables us to kill al Qaeda, but it also enables the organization to recruit new members.

As for Romney's supposed commitment to economic liberty, free markets do not require legal tender laws, as participants are able to arrive at a currency based on its ability to retain purchasing power over time. There is a reason for gold and silver having been chosen as money wherever available and permissable. A central bank that enjoys a state-sponsored cartel on the issuance of a debt-based fiat currency (The Federal Reserve) and the progressive income tax that supports it (The IRS) are straight out of Karl Marx. Though Flip Romney may ease the tax burden for a season (assuming he does not undergo a characteristic change of heart) and though he may refrain from debasing the currency to make up the difference (unlike W) the fact remains that both predatory institutions would survive his presidency.

To SteveL
Re "Romney reminds me of the CEO who handed me my pink slip": Romney reminds me of every SLICK boss I ever worked for. I could absolutely see Romney being nominated and elected because the American people love SLICKNESS. Romney has demonstrated clearly that he will say whatever is expedient (changed position on several major social issues; recently got caught in the lie about having seen his father march with MLK). But he is handsome and smooth and rich and has nice clothes and hair and is a businessman and is SLICK, and in the US that sells like popcorn.

SLICK people operate in a kind of class system: everybody they're not under, they're over. And they have no problem lying to everybody they're over because basically they disrespect everybody they're over. Their attitude is "You are unimportant---what is important here is that I maintain control". SLICK people are manipulative. They lie. When caught in a lie, they say "You misunderstood" (ie your perception of reality is faulty).

And SLICK people are self-serving. "Why aren't your five big healthy sons in that war you say you support?" "Because they are serving their country by working on my campaign." That alone should have the American people gagging---in both parties.

continued
Any leader unwilling to allow the citizenry actual recourse against runaway state growth, financed parasitically through taxation and inflation, demonstrates, at best, nominal commitment to free markets. Economic liberty eminates from monetary liberty. We must retain the prerogative to repudiate the state's currency.

Ron Paul has spent a political career attempting to deliver Americans from the tyranny of paper money, communal ownership of their labor (income tax) and D.C.'s appetite for State and individual sovereignty. I for one am weary of perpetual warfare and welfare and boogeymen and dragons that only Big Government can slay.

Let us not show liberty to be pearls trampled under foot of swine by choosing an imposter over Ron Paul. Dr. Paul's platform is inevitable; may we effect it on our own terms, while we still have a viable middle class.

Spidey's right
The GOP cannot/will not elect a man who choses to run a sleazy campaign, who lies, who uses religion to divide, and who has so many ethical problems that there are too many to list. For a man supposedly devoted to religion, I find Huck to be sorely lacking in principles, character and moral judgment. And this is to say nothing of his ineptitude in foreign or domestic policy.

I don't know SteveL, do you really want an average Joe as the man to trust in such consequential times as these? I sure don't. I want a proven leader, and honorable man, a man who is true to his family and country, a man who has a record of excellence and a committment to success in every endeavor.

That man is Mitt Romney, but I think Fred Thompson would be a fine second choice and I kind of hope it is a Romney/Fred ticket.

Palmtree - please expound
on how Romney has split the party. Can't wait to hear it.

Can't wait for this
crap to be over so these brain-dead paulbots can stfu about their loony crackpot god.

Crank paul is totally unelectable. He is only here to siphon votes from the pubs just like ross perot did.

I wouldn't be surprised one bit if dr crank sleeps in a "Hillary!" nightie.

Setting the record straight!
Huckabee gave a candid interview yesterday on "Meet the Press" which made Romney look like the polished used-car salesman that he really is.

Check it out....

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/21134540/vp/10005061#10005061

splitting the party
This is the primary season folks. Of course candidates are differentiating themselves from the other candidates in their own party. Splitting the party would be refusing to support the GOP nominee or going 3rd party if you lose Huckabee, Paul have each refused to rule this out. All of the serious Republican candidates have more leadership experience than the top 3 Dims.

I can't wait until polls become votes
I can't wait for Romney to wrap this nomination up.

Regarding all the mud-slinging, I agree with Romney 100%. Romney’s McCain ad even underscores that McCain is a man of good character before comparing Mitt’s & McCain’s positions on the issues.

An “Attack on other candidates” is when you de-fame their character instead of their record. Clearly - McCain & Huck have come out as the true attackers when they choose to attack Romney’s character instead of his record. Romney’s ads are not attack ads. If I agreed with amnesty for illegals and for criminal pardons then the Romney ads might actually sway me toward Huck or McCain; If Romney was running true attack ads, that wouldn't happen.

Huck & McCain clearly are choosing to go after Romney’s character instead of his record…which is the absolute worst way to sling mud. I think this approach is the most hypocritical for Huck (since he has positioned himself as the “christian” candidate…and since mud slinging personal attacks are not exactly the “christian” thing to do.)

Oh well - it won’t matter anyway…Romney has always been the best candidate all along (and its not even close.) It is just becoming more obvious to more Americans.

Palmtree
Please tell us how Romney has split the party.

In fact, Huck is the one who tried to split social conservatives by religion-baiting.

Huckabee will never get the nomination precisely because HE would split the party. He is neither an economic or defense conservative. He is right about abortion and practically nothing else.

And he has a real ethics problems. He lies, destroys computer hard drives, registers for gifts, steals furniture, is corrupt (pressured law enforcement to kill investigation of his son's dog killing and giving high government posts to those who donated), pardons criminals who come to Jesus, and so much more.

So, Palmtree - tell us again how Romney splits the party.

Dems are terrified of Romney
From the beginning the DNC has been gunning for Romney? WHY? They know he has what it takes to beat their candidate, whoever that may be. He has a great background, is well financed, and has no skeletons-and believe me they have searched every closet they can. The DNC has given more press releases attacking Romney than any other Republican candidate by far.

This was a great article giving us a good look at why voting for Romney would be a smart choice. Previous posters claiming lies by Romney are spreading dem talking points. Each of them are easily explained and understood. For instance - He did see his father march with MLK. Four books talked about his father marching with MLK. Romney obviously saw pictures and film of these events. Even more important to remember that most of claim to have seen events that we weren't present to witness. I 'saw' a man walk on the moon. I 'saw' the tidal wave hit Indonesia. etc. Another example is that he didn't lie about hiring illegals for his lawn. He hired a landscaping company. When he gave them another chance and they broke their promise not to use illegal aliens he fired them.

MItt Romney's economic knowledge and experience will be invaluable as this country faces some truly tough problems. Most of us are fine right now, but we feel the shakiness of our economic situation and it is frightening.

Ron Paul is trying to remake the Republican party into the libertarian mold. This is not the libertarian party. His supporters by far will not vote for anyone but him, so it would benefit us all if he would just go off and run on the libertarian ticket and take his faithful followers with him.

Hawk is right
Romney has the nomination. He is fighting a 2 front battle right now against Huck and McCain and winning. And he's doing it by taking the high road and not mudslinging. I'm impressed, and so are most conservatives.

There is no one else right now who can gather the support of all of us. That is why so many respected conservatives are lining up to support him. Keene, Weyrich, National Review, Bork, and more. There's sure to even more endorsements after Romney wins Iowa.

I wil vote for Romney, I can vote for Fred or Rudy, I would hate voting for McCain, and I would never, under any circumstance vote for Huck. He's a grifter, a deceiver, a religion-baiter, a liberal, and is 100% unfit for high office. He is actually worse than the Clintons because he pretends to be something he's not. With the Clintons, what you see is what you get.

Mr Wilson IS over the rainbow
The Dems are salivating over a possible RINO candidate becoming the nominee. The mere thought it could be The Mittster has them reaching for their bibs...

If you think the Dim party isn't waiting to unload on Romney's Flip-Flops the way the GOP destroyed Kerry (and they would be just as accurate in their portrayal of The Mittster as Flipper as we were about Lurch)...then you ain't in Kansas anymore!

Vote for a man who can ACTUALLY WIN!!!
Vote for a man who IS and HAS ALWAYS BEEN a True Conservative!!!
Vote for a guy who means what he says and says what he means, without all the NUANCE!!!
Vote for THE candidate WE CAN TRUST to name Conservative Judges to the bench!!!

Vote FRED THOMPSON...

Thompson/Hunter 2008

W/O=

There isn't a bit of difference
between Mitt, Rudy, McCain and Thompson. Oh wait, Mitt's taller.

If you really want to know.
Mike answers the Romney-initiated rhetoric in the video.

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/21134540/vp/10005061#10005061

Romney doesn't split the party.
He, and the money behind him, are illustrations of what has the Republican Party heading toward permanent second class status. When your core party principles devolve to catering to the Wall Street corporate crowd and using our military to build other nations...you are not needed as a political party for the people. Unfortunately for the Republican Party establishment, they need the votes of the "common folk" to win elections. Reagan brought the middle class social conservatives and blue collar crowd into the Republican Party with his stances on the social issues and policies to help all American succeed (especially small businesses). The RNC leadership is only interested in pro-corporate policies and global policing (for their globalist friends). They've alienated the middle class, blue collar class and religious voters. Mitt Romney takes us further back in time to the Republican Party of Buckley and his fellow trust fund tea-sippers gabbing about the weather in Newport for the yachting season.

Huckabee will be the Unifier
How can you possibly say Romney will be a unifier when he's sawed off two of the three legs of the party in Iowa and New Hampshire- the great patriot, John McCain and the hope of the Republican party's future, Mike Huckabee. Remember Ronald Reagan's 11th commandment? Our party needs a man of vision to lead us foward. We need to be strong on defense, seal our border and strive to become energy independent in 10 years. This is foward thinking. The man doing that is Mike Huckabee.

What we don't need is a man who was for abortion, then against it then before leaving office signed a law approving $50.00 co-pays for women to have abortions. We also don't need a man who claimed to walk with Martin Luther King and then went back and said well, I didn't actually do it; I did it in his mind.

Over the last few weeks Mike Huckabee has been tested by the babtism of fire from both the left and even more so by the right. He's handled it all with grace and dignity. That's why I support Mike Huckabee.

Any Dem could destroy Romney
and Huck A Bee too!

Check out the facts. Romney will say anything.

His Dad was brainwashed on Vietnam. Suspect he will say he was brainwashed on Iraq...but he needs a brain first!

http://romneyfacts.com/

On Crack
You've got to be joking...Flip Flopney? Used car salesman who changes his positions for political expediancy? He was staunchly pro choice until 3 years ago; right about the time he started thinking about running for the presidency. Not in this life time.

There's only one genuine conservative in this race and its Fred Thompson. America will miss out on 8 years of Reaganesque conservatism if they let Fred slip away. See his video to Iowans below...it is a defining moment and shows all the others to be children in this race.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VblJq4j0_SE

rothenberg on christian conservative
Stuart Rothenberg in his Dec. 27, 2007 column (see http://rothenbergpoliticalreport.blogspot.com/ ) explains why christian "social" conservatives will never support a Mormon, like Romney, for president. In part, he says:

"Many evangelicals won’t vote for a Mormon for president of the United States for the same reason that almost all Jews would not vote for a candidate (for any office, I expect) who is a member of Jews for Jesus. For Jews, the Jews for Jesus movement is a deceptive attempt to woo Jews to Christianity under the guise of remaining true to Judaism.

Likewise, for evangelicals, Mormons are not “Christians” in the sense that evangelicals understand the term, and by portraying themselves as “Christians,” The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is deceptively wooing evangelicals or potential adherents away from Christianity.

Evangelicals see Mormons as trying to blur the line between Christianity and Mormonism, just as Jews see Jews for Jesus as trying to blur the lines between Judaism and Christianity.

In each case, evangelicals and Jews would not want to elevate to high office someone who might give legitimacy to a group that passes itself off as something that it is not, and that threatens their own group."

I know many social conservative and I agree with Rothenberg's analysis.

JimM - Huck and McCain are 2 legs?

Huck's the hope of the party in what world? Have you been able to read the news for the past 3-4 weeks? It does not appear so.

And McCain and Huck are the ones breaking the 11th commandment.

Sooo funny, Jim.

Seriously, Susan. Do you know what you're saying? Romney has no brain? Do you know anything at all about the man?

You lost any credibility you may have had with your last post, Susan. Good luck.

PC writes: "I don't know SteveL, do you really want an average Joe as the man to trust in such consequential times as these? I sure don't."

I'm just telling you that Romney is going to be a tough sell in the general election. I just don't see Romney connecting with the voters the way Reagan did or Bill Clinton did. He is businesslike, bloodless, distant, and packaged.

In "such consequential times as these," we need a leader who can COMMUNICATE with the public on a deep level, so that they will believe him and follow where he wants to lead. Americans will listen to Romney. But he will leave them cold.

Romney Both a Liar and Divider
Romney claimed yesterday on Fox news interview to be following Reagan's 11th commandment of not attacking fellow Republicans while in the same breath attacking McCain and Huckabee. What a joke, this guy is the very definition of a RINO and yet you shills at Townhall.com keep on pushing him.

I guess Romney's Bain Capital buddies are getting their money's worth for purchasing Clear Channel, the owner of talk-radio in this country and Townhall.com

If Romney wins the nomination the GOP is dead. Plain and simple.

These are the primaries
First love is Hunter Thompson. Real love is Thompson/Hunter. I can vote for Mitt as what he says he is now. A pox on your house if he is another Bush. I cannot tell you how distasteful it is to believe a liar and then have him stick it to you. Here in Tx we seem to be the proving ground for the liars club.

Romnney dishonest in ad?
Mitt's TV ad says Mitt got tough on Meth. manufacturers/dealers, compared to Huckabee.

Fact is Mitt was such an outstanding Governor that when Mitt tried to change the meth. laws in Massachusetts... Well Mitt FAILED!!!
Result.
Massachusetts penalty for meth. manufacturers:
2.5 to 5 years prison time.

Arkansas penalty for meth. manufacturers:
5 to 10 years prison time.

Is Mitt dishonest? Yes.
An inconvenient truth. Romney/Gore 2008.

PC, Mike isn't running for President of the world he's running for President of the United States Of America and he's doing a fine job.

Mike has held his fire for the last 3-4 weeks and tried his best to run an honorable and positive campaign. "Checkbook", I mean Mitt has run millions of dollars worth of those dark negative campaign adds and I would be disappointed if Mike didn't respond. As for John McCain, I think he's an honorable man a a war hero. What do you think?

Romney DIVIDES, GOP dies with him

If you RINO lover insist on shoving this man as the GOP representative for the election, they it is you who will elect the democrat candidate.
We have been telling you we are sick of the sort of politician Romney is and you will not listen.
Almost half of this country has said Romney is a NON Starter and will not vote for the man regardless who the democrats run.

Romney jurist picks not tilted to GOP
Independents, Democrats get call

By Raphael Lewis, Globe Staff | July 25, 2005

Governor Mitt Romney, who touts his conservative credentials to out-of-state Republicans, has passed over GOP lawyers for three-quarters of the 36 judicial vacancies he has faced, instead tapping registered Democrats or independents -- including two gay lawyers who have supported expanded same-sex rights, a Globe review of the nominations has found.

Of the 36 people Romney named to be judges or clerk magistrates, 23 are either registered Democrats or unenrolled voters who have made multiple contributions to Democratic politicians or who voted in Democratic primaries, state and local records show. In all, he has nominated nine registered Republicans, 13 unenrolled voters, and 14 registered Democrats.

SteveL
But he doesn't come across that way to me. I've never understood the slick label. When I look at him I see a very accomplished, yet real person. I know that he went out and helped clear fallen trees at a home in CA after the fires - but the press was not there. I know that he changed a tire for a woman after church services one day. I know that when I see his interactions with his family that he is a real and very decent family man.

I guess some people resent his great success, and his superior intelligence, but I don't. That's the kind of leader I want, and what I believe we need now more than ever.

Frankly, I'm sick of the hair, money and slick comments because they are not real. They are just criticisms made out of desperation because with Romney there's not so much to criticize.

I also believe that Romney is not a natural politician, and is not entirely comfortable in that role. He did not get into politics until the age of 50 or so. He is a natural born leader, but perhaps reluctant to be a politician. Maybe that is why he doens't come across so well, folks are more familiar with the Huckleberry-type guy. Now THAT is slick.

No amount of money
Is going to get this rino Romney elected, you can bet on it.

Hilliary is more honest, but just as crooked as this no account politician Romney.

48 percent of voters will not even consider this man for President.
Its stupid to push such a divider and expect to win against the democrats, it will NOT happen.

Just LOOK at what he done to Massachusetts!
Its most basic laws have been twisted by this lying snake Romney, and you expect conservatives to support this crooked man?
Not happening

I support Mike Huckabee
Mike Huckabee has my complete support. This is the first chance we have had in a very long time to have a leader who is for "the people" of America.

Mike motivates me and I am excited to see the great things he will do for us and our country.
All of the negative attack ads won't change Mike's proven leadership record.

As everyone has seen, Mike Huckabee has surged to number one in the polls. When people hear him speak, they understand why he is the right choice to be President of the United States.

God bless Mike. If "we Americans" stick together, our country will move ahead stronger than ever with Mike leading it.

I endorse Mike Huckabee.

It's McCain and Huck who are name-calling, not Romney. He's pointing out facts.

Huck held what fire? He's calling Romney a liar. Do you need to be reminded again of Huck's whole strategy - to divide social conservatives by running as the anti-Mormon candidate? My gosh, man! How is that honorable or positve? It's hard for you to make your case for Huck with any credibility. Huckabee is a proven liar on so many issues it's hard to count.

And Romney's ads and statements merely show Huck's record. That is not dark or negative, unless you think the truth is dark and negative.

Black is white for you apparently.

Romnney dishonest in ad?
Mitt's TV ad states that Huckabee grew the Arkansas government from 6 billion to 16 billion.

Fact is that 6 billion number was from the Bill Clinton/Jim "Guy" Tucker period.

Would Mitt ever dare to be dis-honest? YES.

Another inconvenient truth. Romney/Gore 2008

marinepatriot Has Best Post OF The Day

Rawmoney: More of the same...
Rawmoney is a plastic quarter billionaire with about as much in common with most Americans as Algore and dieting. Ron Paul is my choice and I voted for Bush the last two times.

Huck supporters have eyes / ears closed
Come on folks! Seriously, at this point when we know so many facts about Huck's positions, record and character how can any of you honestly support him? What is your criterion for your support? I suspect it is on religion alone. But even then, Huck falls short. He's a religion-baiter who breaks the 9th commandment regularly.

I'm an enthusiastic Romney supporter, but I can happily vote for Fred, Rudy, or even hold my nose and vote for McCain. But Huck is unworthy of the GOP nomination. Period.

4 - Mitt said he only raised fees in Mass. Is a fee a tax?

I look foward to your response.

Mitt's "contrasting" TV ad states that Huckabee's tax and spending were out of control.

Mike/ Arkansas 1% a year

Another incovenient truth. Romney/Gore 2008

Mitt vs. Huck
Mitt is yet another silver spoon trust fund baby the ruling class elite perpetually trots out to ensure their wealth and continued prosperity. I'm not saying he is a bad guy, but he moves in a world that is totally out of touch with the day to day realities faced by the overwhelming majority of Americans.

Huckabee comes from common stock and realizes what is important to the vast majority of Americans. His background is much closer to the lives of most voters. His shared experiences and intuitive sense of the issues dear to "common folk" are things money can't buy (sorry Mitt).

Huckabee connects with people. Mitt does not. I'm tired of voting for one of "them". This time I'm voting for one of "us".

JimM - I'll answer question if you will
1 Against - he changed just like Reagan. The abortions in Mass are not Romney's doing. He had no choice in the matter. Read up on it and be prepared to accept the reality.

2 Yes. Broder and others had no reason to lie about it back then, and many witnesses saw it.

3 Romney never walked with King and did not say so.

4 Romney saw his father doing it in the same way I saw my father do housework for an elderly neighbor down the street. I knew he did it, but I wasn't in the house. You know this is exactly
what Romney is saying.

5 It's not bothering me too much that Romney raised fees to balance the budget. It's a far cry from raising taxes the way Huck did. And remember, he is profoundly grateful for any tax! LOL

What about Fred?
I like Fred. How come no one talks about him? Thompson is strong on Foreign affairs and National Security. He's smart. He's been around a long time. He's seen it all.

He has a double major in both Philosophy and Political Science. As well as a law degree and for years had a respectable law firm. Had many corporate, international clients.

Was on the Watergate Committee. He has experience as a US Senator, successfully. Won by a 20% margin.

I like Thompson on a personal level because he comes across as honest, sincere. He doesn't give off the air of posturing and guarding each word--like Romney and Huck. He comes across as confident and experienced.

He isn't going to kowtow or back down in the face of political pressure. And he's a pure conservative. Fighting against too much federal power and believing in the power of the individual states. I like that!

He doesn't present himself as savior of the world and answer to all my hopes and dreams. Just someone who's going to get the job done, even if he doesn't get the glory and doesn't get the limelight.

I watch and feel as though "yeah, I can trust this man with my security and too make wise decisions on behalf of my country." He's a MAN, not a wimpy pretty boy.

If I shook hands with Thompson his handshake would be strong and firm. Romney would be a dead, cold fish.

Thompson's my man!

Dividers
I am sadly amused by so many references to dividing the party. If a candidate does not think exactly as you do, they are dividing the party. I hold my beliefs dear, but I will gladly and gratefully vote for which ever candidate receives the nomination. STOP THE WHINING AND GROW UP.

Now, my questions for JimM
Are you bothered by Huck:

Using the "Christian Leader" floating cross anti-Mormon strategy?

Or his lying about not knowing anything about Mormon theology, and "innocently" asking the old standard Mormon-bashing question to the NYT reporter?

Or his destroying computer hard drives when he left office?

Or his giving government positions to donors?

Or his gift registries?

Or his stealing furniture?

Or his pressuring law enforcement to not investigate his son's dog killing?

Or his lying about his role in the DuMond parole?

Or his pardoning of 1000 criminals because they came to Jesus?

Or his ineptitude on foreign and domestic policy?

Or his liberal views?

Or his Bush-bashing?

Just a few questions for you to think about. I hope you can answer even just a couple.

Defending Huck has got to be quite the task.

To Lilly
You remind me of my former sister in law who wen ton the internet and found hyerself a rich guy to marry, then left my bro and 3 kids. THEN claimed he had the affair! I've never worked for a poor CEO. I've gotten pink slimps - its the nature of doing business. But I found jobs quickly (because I was qualified) and worked for more rich CEO's. Corporations provide jobs. My husband has one, and we enjoy the paycheck. I've since retired and am now raising 7 wonderful kids. Romneys Sons served missions for the LDS church. If you knew anything other than what your pastor has told you, about the LDS church, you'd know that these guys serve tohelp others, not just teach. And, if you have not received the memo, the United States enjoys a volunteer armed forces. Mitts sons are adults. I never saw Chelsea marching down to the recuriters when Mama voted FOR the war. Nuff said. I'm voting Romney. Praying he gets the nom and picks Thompson as second chair.

Verbivore
I like Fred, too. But I think you should acknowledge that Romney is highly respected by his peers. His word is good according to people who have worked with him. His reputation is stellar. I doubt Romney would be where he is now if he were a wimpy, pretty boy. Do you not know anything about his past experiences?

I would also feel safe with Fred, but I'm not sure he has the leadership, skill or initiative to accomplish much. But I agree, he would do no damage, unlike Huck or McCain.

Huckacide
Isn't it concerning that intolerance (GeorgiaGal & Mark above) is still alive in America today?

No, I won't stand in line to commit Huckacide.

Romney is a liberal
He might be the guy to vote for if you like liars and liberals. He will lie about anything. He claims to have been a hunter all his life, hunted twice. Was for gun control, still doesn't agree with the NRA. Claims to be a Reaganite, but previously claimed to be an independent and was not for Reagan policy. He is still not much on the pro-life side, saying on Meet the Press the 16th that he would not further the pro-life movement. Raised taxes in MA, never cutting them that I know of. He is a liberal. How can a liberal unify the Republican party?

PC eyes and ears open
PC when it comes to looking backward at records, I'll be the first to say both Mitt and Mike have a lot of junk in there trunk.
My biggest beef with Mitt is that he attacks based on the past, but doesn't like his past to be picked apart. Which is easy.

Looking forward, (my preference) is fine.

Taxes.
MR- same income tax system
MH- Fair Tax I believe this is better and more conservative.

War.
Both want to win it.
MR- ? what then?
MH- wants to build up military.

Supreme Court.
MR- says he will appoint anti abortion judges
MH- no doubt here

Illegal Imm.
MR- wants to find a way to keep illegals here but get them started on a path to citizenship.
MH- 9 point plan. Back of the line. Not amnesty

Religion.
There's no religious test for me, thats unconstitutional.
I'm not a Southern Baptist.
I'm not a Mormon.

I'm happy to look at what there saying now.
For me Huckabee's a great communicator and positive for the US.
Romney may be good for US, but he's negative.
i.e. - Mitt polls at 47% negative.
That's Hillary country.

PC
1 - So federal fees would be OK, too? What new federal fees would you accept to balance the federal budget? I still think a fee is a tax.

2 - Funny, The Martin Luther King library has no record of Romney Walking with McCain. Do you have a picture?

3 - If Mitt's against abortion, why did he sign into law $50.00 co-pays for abortion before he left office?

4 - What year did the NRA endorse Mitt?

Reality or Fantasy?
The reason Romney is doing so well is because he has bought and paid for these puff articles to unrealistically promote this fantasy to the rest of us that the birds sing in this man's presence and the squirrels rush to immediately press his pants!

Queen.
Nice post for Lilly. But you may as well try explaining internal combustion to your dog. Or getting your cat to do your taxes.

Something to Think About
People say that Mitt Romney flip flopped on abortion. I looked into it. He was always personally against abortion. Before serving in office, he thought abortion was not the government's place. When he served in office as a governor, he came down on the right to life time and time again, consistently, and even received many endorsements from the nations top pro-life conservatives because of his actions. That is a flip in the right direction at a time when his decisions made an impact.

People say he enacted abortion health care. I looked into it. That health coverage cannot be attributed to Mr. Romney. It was part of the laws of his state and enacted by a third party completely outside of the control of the governor's office.

People say he raised taxes. I looked into it. Mitt Romney actually shrunk his state government. Again, he shrunk the state government of the most liberal state in the US. He did this without raising taxes. He balanced the government's budget and recovered from a huge deficit by cutting programs. Again, let me repeat, Mitt Romney shrunk his state's government and cut many programs.

People said Mitt lied about his father marching with Martin Luther King. I looked into it. George Romney marched in many civil rights marches, in support of Martin Luther King. George Romney and MLK counted each other as friends and corresponded frequently. I saw that George Romney marched for civil rights with Martin Luther King.

People say Mitt Romney doesn't support gun rights. I looked into it. Mitt Romney made it easier for gun owners in the most liberal state in the country.

I am tired of people attributing the decisions of an 85% Democratic state legislature to Mitt. I am tired of how a handful of lies about Mitt's record -- lies made up by attributing the laws of the most liberal state and a liberal state congress to Mitt -- have been repeated along with anti-Mormon garbage on these boards.

PC
I don't know as much about Romney as Fred. And I agree he is well-liked by his peers. But so is Fred.

Romney has more of a business background. Nothing much on Foreign affairs.

And yes, my sense of the cold fish handshake is purely subjective. But I watch his mannerisms, listen to what he says, and there's more desperation from him. More wariness of saying the wrong thing. Less confidence. We need a President who requires a short learning curve.

Fred just seems to be a no nonsense guy.

GeorgiaGal
That has got to be the most cogent, deft explanation of the evangelical/mormon problem that anyone has ever offered. You also did so using very few words, augmenting the brilliance behind them. I agree with your assessment. I think it is a very real problem for Romney. I don't fault christians who feel this way though I do not share their conviction myself. What I know of Mormonism, I can't say I could ever believe what they believe, but it's not like they're out murdering people in the name of their religion like the radical islamists. As a whole they seem to be pretty well together, and they are very serious about helping people.
We will see. Great post.

A Liberal?
I don't get the jabs that Mitt Romney is a liberal.

1. Is it liberal to be pro-life? Is it liberal to support a marriage amendment to the constitution? Is it liberal to stand for life and marriage in the most liberal state in the country? (Attempts to attribute existing state laws about abortion and marriage to Mitt Romney's positions are often stretches into the absurd.)

2. It is liberal to support an increase in troops? Is it liberal to support Gitmo and call for it to be enlarged? Is it liberal to go around talking about fighting radical jihad? As a governor, Romney cut state programs while increasing state troopers.

3. Is it liberal to support the Bush tax cuts? Is it liberal to pledge no tax increases? Is it liberal to cut government waste? As governor, Mitt Romney actually decreased government jobs and spending in the most liberal state in the country.

Why Romney is right for POTUS
and all you Mitt Romney haters better get a grip and stop these juvenile attacks...ONE blogger even complained of Mitt Romney's hair as if it would make him a bad POTUS! Some of these posts are worse than a third grader would write. We have a large group of candidates...a woman, a black man, and attorney, a mayor, senators, a preacher, a libertarian and a very successful governor in his personal life, (38 years of marriage to Ann with five successful sons) in business (Staples, Domino's Pizza, Bain Capital ($250,000,000 personal worth) and governing Massachusetts (strong liberal Democrat state) as a Republican, saving the Utah Olympics from disaster, a law degree(with honors), MBA degree at the same time from Harvard...and much, much more. NONE of the above mentioned candidates can touch his experience and integrity. Well now, Mitt Romney haters let me see how you spin this in favor of your candidate of choice.

JimM is not willing or able to defend MH
Do you believe David Broder and others at the time was lying about George Romney? Why would he? I don't. Do you believe the many witnessess who have come forward are lying? Use some logic in determining motives for lying.

There is far less reason to believe Romney would raise fees, than Huck would raise taxes. Remember, he is prfoundly grateful for ANY tax. He cannot win on the tax issue against Romney. No way, because the records of his tax hikes are public.

The $50 abortion was not Romney's doing, it was state law, and the legislature. It's funny that you won't read the facts about this. You just want to use it as an issue to throw out, but it has no basis in reality.

Yes, Romney misspoke about the NRA. But they did support him on legislation in Mass. And he quickly corrected the record. I'll take Romney's few statements that were wrong over Huck's deliberate deception any day. He is the great deceiver.

Will you please answer one of my questions, now?

I don't believe you can, but you should at least try - for the sake of your own credibility.

Are you a press agent for Slick Mitt
Using the "Christian Leader" floating cross anti-Mormon strategy? Did upi really need that ad to find out that Mike is a Christian.

Or his lying about not knowing anything about Mormon theology, and "innocently" asking the old standard Mormon-bashing question to the NYT reporter? Did you read the article or just the press release from Romney?

Please provide proof on your accusations rather than just lay them out like they are true.
These are like have you stopped beating your wife questions.

BTW, do you know and you probably don't that Mike couldn't as the governor of arkansas pardon anyone. He could only commute the longer sentences to shorter ones.

Or his ineptitude on foreign and domestic policy?
So I am supposed to trust another neocon. I don't know if we can afford such a mistake.

Or his liberal views?
What like protecting american soverignty

Or his Bush-bashing?
Bash the man who has lead our party to minority status? Bash the man who lead us into a disastrous war on flimsy information? Bash the man who has given us a deficit three times what it was when he took office? Bash a man who iimmigration policies come on dictates from the President of Mexico? Bash a man who cares mnre about his friends than those who voted for him? Bsah someone who looks and acts like Dougie in Animal House? Bash someone who can't tie a verb to a noun without mangling it?
Please give me a break.

I don't hate Mitt but he is Bush lite and I would't vote for another person named Bush if they were running for dog catcher.

I voted for it (pro-life), before I voted against it (pro-abortion).

Ones promise, ones word should mean and stand firmly for something!

Otherwise you're just pandering!

jim bowie
I read the article and have only read very few press releases from Romney. But I'm willing to bet there is more truth to them than the ones Huck releases. LOL

All of the accusations against Huck are common knowledge - records from news articles, and public governement records. I notice that no one defends Huck against these charges, they just try to claim they are false. How about some real facts?

I'd like just one Huckster supporter to actually set the record straight on these if the can.

Oh yeah, Huck protecting American sovreignty is hilarious in light of his abyssmal record in illegal immigration. Good one!

Wrong for America
Romney is the biggest phony to come along in a long time. The people who support him have been fooled by his image consultants that have tried to cultivate an image that most voters would like; but certainly NOT the real Romney. My hope is that people start wising up and abandon this guy, because even if he gets the nomination, polls have shown he would get crushed by any Dem running against him. A vote for Mitt in the primary is as good as a vote for Hillary in the general. And no sane person wants that.

Who cares if Romney is Rich?
People. That's what Romeny has working for him in his corporations. Who gives a flying wafer if he is a rich CEO? Oprah's rich, and no one digs her about it. And her hair is in place too. Clinton is rich. Shye'll tell ya every chance she gets! Her hair is also always perfect. I have never worked for a poor CEO. Once, mny husband did for about 10 days, before it became clear no paycheck would be coming our way. They parted ways, and my husband went to work for a sucessful man. Now were living the american dream.

Huck lied when he said eh knew nothing about the LDS faith. He spoke at the anti-mormon convention in 1998 in Salt Lake City, sponsored by his faith. So, he either spoke on stuff he knew nothing about, or lied about not knowing. Either way, I don't want that type of guy in the white house. I am LDS, and I do not feel I belong to a 'cult'. Study history, and see where the Iowan's and LDS have a LONG history. Not all good. Romney is a good man. I think he'll get the nom. And a few months ago, I thought the Huster would be a good second chair, I've since changed my mind to Thomposn.

Well said my friend, you're a real American hero who put's it on the line for the American people. Thanks for your service, I wish I could shake your hand.

Ordinary Americans who're undecided would do well to follow your lead and your line of thinking about leadership over and above the more arrogant "Hewitt" line of thinking in Doug Wilson's column above. here's what I say:

1.) Romney's a top down manager, not a leader.
2.) Romney does not unify the Republican coalition a) because he's all over the board, he doesn't stand consistently on principle, and b) he and his supporters have been unfairly dismissing, attacking and dividing not only his opponents themselves, but all their supporters too.
3.) He's been dishonestly misrepresenting himself and his opponents if he exaggerates and lies while trying to get the job what's he going to do if he gets the job???

This election in many ways is about the future moral direction of the country as well as the security of our borders, our sovereignty, our economic prosperity, and relations with the rest of the world. In all these areas character and values matter.

Flip/Flop - Changing your Mind
My old grandfather used to say "A good man will change his mind, a damn fool never will" People change all the time. I would not vote for someone so ridged as to never consider alternatives and change if necessary.

Romneys a snake oil salesman
and thats a compliment. He's a grifter. worst candidate by far. He slimes everything he comes in contact with. Notice his dishonest ads againt Huck and McCain. This from a man who is just an opportunist and always takes the easy way out.

Mtn Rose
That may be true, but my python is a constrictor, so a mongoose would be very wary of it....

This is why I gave our king cobra walking papers...

I support Mike Huckabee

Did you see how Mitt Romney treated the kid in the wheelchair? This is how Mitt treats Americans. Weather or not he agrees with the issue, Mitt turns his back on answering the kids question and acts like the rich snob he is. You will be amazed. You have to see this:

(thanks for everyones nice comments about my previous post)

Romney will appeal...
to those who value the superficial above substance. That's why he'll likely win the nomination. He's spent his way to appear to be the ideal candidate to the mindless sheeple who enjoy being led by Ivy League trust fund babies.

As for Romney being well liked by his peers? Of course he is! They are counting on him to help them expand their wealth and power. His peers aren't the average American, though. His peers are the wealthy elite. Mitt was born on 3rd base with a Jackie Robinson-like lead toward home. How does that relate to the lives of most Americans?

Say what you will about Huckabee...and he has some things in his record I don't care for...but he came up a much harder road than did Mitt. Huck can relate to most people and their concerns. Mitt's trying to buy the "street cred" that Huck came by on his own. Sadly, with all the money behind it...Mitt's con job will probably work for him.

rockerisback
Your post is only true if you're talking about the real grifter, Huck. He fits your description perfectly. Do you need proof? Because I've got mountains of it.

Commutations
Lies about commutations
Lies about Mormonism
Lies about floating crosses
Lies about innocent questions to NYT reporters
Gift registries
Government jobs to donors
Furniture theft
Corruption in sqelching law enforcement investigations
Computer Hard drives destroyed
Indifference to crime victims
Lies about his record

Huckabee is the great deceiver, and the slickest politician I've seen since Bill. I'm sorry that he has pulled the wool over your eyes. He is no conservative, and not an honorable man.

Phoney
The Concord Monitor (New Hampshire) called Romney a “disquieting figure” and said that while he looks and acts like a viable candidate they believe he lacks the core philosophical beliefs to be a trustworthy president.

Untrustworthy. Lacks core beliefs. Does America deserve that? I think we're better than that.

Best Overall Candidate and Phony
The WaPo indicates McCain has the most lobbyist giving money to him, more than Hillary and Rudy. McCain is the best overall phony.

Romney is the best overall candidate.

....a recent study by the nonpartisan Campaign Finance Institute and the liberal advocacy group Public Citizen found that McCain has more lobbyists raising funds for his presidential bid than do any of his rivals.

He has 32 "bundlers" of donations who are lobbyists. Former New York mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani (R) is the closest to him with 29 lobbyist bundlers, followed by Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-N.Y.) with 18.

McCain's campaign has also been guided by lobbyists. Davis, the campaign manager, is a former lobbyist who represented major telecommunications companies. The campaign's senior adviser is Charles R. Black Jr., chairman of BKSH & Associates, which represents drug companies, an oil company, an automaker, a telecommunications company, defense contractors and the steel industry, among others.

Former congressman Tom Loeffler (R-Tex.) was brought in to shore up the campaign's finances and operations yet still maintains his day job as chairman of the Loeffler Group, whose clients include oil, auto and telecommunications companies as well as a tobacco firm and an airline client.

Other occasional McCain advisers include the lobbyists Timothy P. McKone of AT&T, Robert S. Aiken of Phoenix-based Pinnacle West Capital, John W. Timmons of the Cormac Group and John Green of Ogilvy Government Relations. Also at Ogilvy is a major McCain fundraiser, Wayne L. Berman.

Their firms' clients have been a significant source of campaign contributions to McCain.

Romney is Hillary with Better Hair....

seriously - what is the difference between MittCare and HillaryCare?

Why was it that Mitt almost issued a tax free bond to Planned Parenthood?

Why is it that ...... et cetera.

Fred Thompson is a real conservative, Mitt Romney is nothing but Hillary with far better hair....

Duncan Hunter is the real deal
Americans, not just Republicans are confused. Elites have hijacked both parties for their own and not the American people's agenda. Free trade is their mantra which translates as "let us make money any way we can at any cost to the American way of life."

Americans know that something is horribly wrong and that their interests are not truly being represented by their elected representatives. This is because there are forces more powerful than the power of the ballot box, the immense power of basically the same extremely wealthy, powerful, and very influential interests who have both of our political parties well in hand.

Duncan Hunter is not one of our leaders that this elite has well in hand. They will do anything they can to keep his name and message from most Americans. He opposes their open borders, free trading, globalist policies. He opposes enabling illegal immigration. He is pro Christian, pro life, pro gun, pro strong military, and pro American. And those of us who are those things as well need to be pro Duncan Hunter.

I Support Mike Huckabee
No doubt, Romney looks the part - chiseled chin, coiffed hair, square shoulders BUT the FACTS are in... Romney has more criticisms to say about his opponents then good things about himself.

This signifies exactly what will happen if he gets into office - all ideas/policies will become chocker-blocked into a depressing quagmire of governmental despondency.

Please people, vote for someone who will change the fiscally driven high-brow politics into a leadership for ALL people. HUCKABEE

Nancy
I don't think we are better than that. A disquieting candidate may be just what is needed to wake up the electorate. As time goes on Romney will put to bed the idea that he is not the man for the job. I am growing tired of this thread. Time for a nap. Disquiet should be eschewed.

Paula
How is it possible that you can ignore Huck's liberal record/statements, ethical lapses and religion-baiting strategy? I just don't understand it.

You have to be truth-adverse to consider him.

Romney Unites the GOP
Only one candidate can unite ALL types of conservative...fiscal, defense, AND social. Mitt's the man!

Huckabee says he won't run the anti-Romney attack ad, but it has already been released to the media by his campaign (which they admitted to on Fox). Which means what? EVERYONE will now be playing it without his campaign having to pay a dime. Very, very sneaky Mr. Huckabee.

Excellent article
It is refreshing to read a thoughtful article that provides clarity in a close political race. Thank you.

Huck Loses in Vegas
Huckabee has broken down thru the crucial 10 % resistance level in the National Vegas odds. This is a very bad omen for Huckabee. Huck is at 8 about a point ahead of Ron Paul.

Huck is sneaky about using the media?
Mitt has nearly every "conservative" talk radio host and columnist shilling for him every day and night. Townhall might as well be his official campaign press website.

Vote for Hunter
Hunter has everything McCain has without the detriments.

communicator
At least we know that the next presidential candidate will be able to verbalize better than the present guy. Let's juts hope it is not Ron Paul and not Huckabee.

Elites Shilling for RINO Romney!
The bottom line is that Mitt Romney is the most liberal candidate in the race from either party. He accomplished what neither Hillary nor any other Democrat has been able to. Mitt gave Massachusetts a government run healthcare plan that included abortion as a “healthcare benefit.” (unprecedented) And Mitt gave Massachusetts “gay marriage” to fulfill a campaign promise in 2002 to the homosexual Log Cabin Republicans. That is the real story that the media including about 99% of the so-called "conservative media" (Hewitt, Bennett, Hannity, Sekulow, etc…) have conveniently ignored and suppressed. The real story that the media has buried is that Romney violated his sworn oath to protect and defend the oldest functioning constitution in the world (authored by John Adams) and knowingly violated it for his own political gain. And the real question that Romney and the media talkers who daily shill for him should have to answer is: Why should Americans trust that Romney would protect and defend the US Constitution when he flagrantly violated his own as governor?

To see specifically how Romney shredded the Massachusetts Constitution by instituting “gay marriage” read this “Joint Letter to Governor Mitt Romney from Pro-Family Leaders.” It is devastating. http://www.massresistance.org/docs/marriage/romney/dec_let ter/letter.pdf
Again, if you are not part of exposing this information, you are part of the cover up.

Special interest Mitt
Bill Clinton could change to pro life, and pro second amendment and he would be the equal to Mitt.
Mitt is not a conservative, by any stretch of the word.

PC, while I agree with you about MH
I disagree about Romney. Too many eleventh hour conversions for all, or any to be true. While I also agree with the oldcountryboy in that anyone that never changes their mind is either ignorant or Jesus, the changes in Mitt recently are too many and too convenient. Huckabee has shot himself in the foot and his record is awful!

Fred is the one that says that he does not have a great desire to become President, but that he feels that the country needs him again. I like that! No fear of the Nixon syndrome.

Mitt reminds me too much of Kerry and that is very bad! Huckabee reminds me of the playschool bully that whines when he doesn't get his way. Rudy simply scare me to no end. McCain was, IMHO, brainwashed by the N. Vietnamese during all those years in captivity and is a hero that should be given a respectful retirement and not be let anywhere near making policies for this country.

Hunter is a good man with absolutely no charisma and that is not a formula for winning.

My dream ticket is Thompson/Hunter.

Action - Head Out
Action, if Romney is so liberal, why do the liberals is Massachusetts hate him? Why did he cut government employees, programs and expenses as governor?

Why did he have a pro-life record as governor (your hack jobs of attributing existing Massachusetts laws and the actions of organizations outside of the governor's office, like the $50 abortion, to Romney, who opposed abortion as governor, don't fly among the literate).

If he is so liberal, why is he the main candidate supporting a marriage amendment and constantly touting that children deserve a mother and a father?

If your "real stories" are so real about Romney's gay agenda, then tell us why the Rush Limbaugh's, the Hannity's, the National Review's, and dozens of prominent evangelical leaders have supported Mitt Romney and don't believe your "real" stories?

Action, maybe you are the one who needs to pull your head out.

To all who truly seek, ye shall find....

.....that Romney is head and shoulders above any, any, or any other candidate this year as an ALL ROUND, QUALIFIED AND QUALITY PRESIDENT.

I did not read the previous posts except to skim seeker_of_truth`s last post.

I don't have to, they are thew same posts as since a month ago. Half of you say yea, and half say nay or I don't know.

Well my big nose says yea. Everything Doug Wilson says is hunky dory including his opinion.

It's very simple folks. Don't fight losing battles. Among the leaders he is the most qualified even if you dislike "Mormons". So what.??. You can have a non believer or a believer. He is the only one who believes in Jesus Christ and believes in the United States of America.

He is selfless to even offer his time to the country. Very few highly qualified men or women would. Most of the candidates are "politicians".

He is not a pol in the usual sense.

Support whomever you wish in the primaries, but I feel strongly that HE WILL be our candidate in the general election.

Enough said.. Semper Fi..

paulmerchant...
"If your "real stories" are so real about Romney's gay agenda, then tell us why the Rush Limbaugh's, the Hannity's, the National Review's, and dozens of prominent evangelical leaders have supported Mitt Romney and don't believe your "real" stories?"

Follow the money. Limbaugh, Hannity and everyone at the National Review are firmly lined up with the Wall Street/Northeast GOP elites. They are doing nothing more than spewing out the RNC talking points. A vote for Mitt ensures the D.C. corporate gravy train continues to roll down the tracks...even as the Republican Party continues to implode, and the nation weakens.

re:Marine Patriot @215
I've watched that video before and I didn't even need to watch it again. For those of you that don't know, it's all about legalizing marijuana. All that guy in a wheel chair was trying to do was capitalize on his infirmity in order to back Gov. Romney into a corner to get him to say something that could then be put on YouTube or to persuade him to change his position. It's just the same old Liberal TTPs. Do not be fooled by the shallow attack.

BTW whom ever it is that keeps using Gov. Romney's initials it's WMR not MWR.

1 soldier for Mitt
(absentee from Iraq)

I am OK with Mitt, but...
... beware of the Huckster, Rudy, and Sen. Juan McQuisling on ILLEGALS!
I simply do not trust them on the CRITICAL issue of stanching ILLEGALS, who will destroy America if not stopped and reversed. We can do this by enforcing EXISTING laws and requiring REAL I.D. to function in America-- to work, rent, get licenses, seek services, attend college, pass go, etc.

This is EASILY the most serious threat to America's socio-economic and cultural well-being and even national security (known Islamic militants have pervaded, some entering across the border posing as Hispanics) because today's modern service economy CANNOT benefit on balance from importing the ignorant indigent, who inevitably become HUGE net users of tax $ and social welfare services. The left wants them to vote ASAP to assure a permanent entitlement welfare state; hence, the drivers license motor voter fraud scheme rejected by 75% of New Yorkers. Here is an excellent summary of where the candidates stand on ILLEGALS (Mitt and Fred are best among front- runners) including specific actions taken while in office:

http://www.betterimmigration.com/candidates/2006/prez08_gop 1.html

The Huckster has favored tuition for ILLEGALS and said that he does not understand resentment toward them. What about "ILLEGAL" does he not get?! Understand that some 22% of ILLEGAL aliens overstayed visas-- they need to be sent back also. America should only welcome educated, skilled immigrants who come here LEGALLY! Sen. Juan McQuisling deserves NO 2nd chance for finally "getting the message," and Sanctuary City Regularization Rudy is a no-go also.

There are a couple candidates that......
º
...I like: Hunter really well and somewhat Thompson comes to mind although hes is CFR, but we're talking leaders, there are only three.

When I support Romney it's because I have good vibes about him and bad and very bad vibes about Giuliani and Huckster.

I could live with Giuliani although he is far from being an ideal candidate.

I believe Romney is the one to pin our hopes on. That's all you do. Pin your hopes on one because somebody is going to get elected and WE are going to have to live with that election.

I, especially, agree with LODESTAR with respect to the Huckster. He is and would be bad news for the country. Cross your fingers he disappoints his followers. Some people would follow the devil himself.

g2825m
Sir, you make an excellent point. There is no way i will vote for McCain or Rudy. Their records are those of big govt socialism. With Romney, the jury is still out. He is now saying more and more of the right things. The question becomes, Will he stick by his words. History has not been kind to many men elected on fiscal responsibility promises, only to set pork records. The whole Republican party is on probation, the worst of it being few up there in DC seem to realize. Interesting things will happen.

The most significant line
of this column is;

Doug Wilson is chairman of Townhall.com, a California co-chair of Mitt Romney's presidential campaign....

This explains two things, Doug's agenda to get Romney elected AND TH's clear bias towards him.

All the biased pro-Romney, anti-anyone else columns have turned TH into a Romney PAC rather than a conservative site to discuss and debate issues. Our opinion no longer counts, unless it is in line with Doug's & TH's agenda.

To Doug,

Thanks, but no thanks.

To me Romney exemplifies all that is wrong with the GOP, and is nothing like Reagan.

To use your stool analogy, there are some thick books under his stool legs propping it up and making it appear level and stable.

paulmerchant
The liberals in Mass. hate everybody. They hate their own mothers. They pretend it isn't true and will say all kinds of goofy things to cover it up. The trick is figuring out who they hate more. They hate Mitt a lot more than they hate Hillary. Personally I like Hillary. She has great hair.

"Leaders" like Doug Wilson...
are hopelessly out of touch and are charting the course to oblivion for the GOP as a mainstream party. After Mitt gets blasted in the general election, because all the social conservatives and Reagan blue collar Republicans stay home...perhaps the GOP will get back to the issues that matter to most people.

Christopher nails it!
when he says above:

"Doug Wilson is chairman of Townhall.com, a California co-chair of Mitt Romney's presidential campaign....

"This explains two things, Doug's agenda to get Romney elected AND TH's clear bias towards him.

100% spot on. Couldn't have said it any better.

example is proof
didnt think i was going to email again. but iam crawling out of my sick bed to speak one more time...people can talk, talk, talk! but the most important thing in life on matters like what you folks have been talking about is...EXAMPLE ! EXAMPLE IN THEIR PERSONAL LIFE! AND MITT IS SOOO CLEAN THE MEDIA ARE JEALOUS OF MITT ROMNEY! 38 YEARS OF MARRIAGE, MADE MILLIONS(BRAINS),CLEANED UP THE OLYMPIC MESS! and he will make believers out of the doubters..after about 2 years in the white house!!now back to bed....best wishes to all of you !!

Vote for the best man for the job,Hunter, not for whom the media tells you are the leaders in the polls. Vote for Hunter.

INDEED ROMNEY IS A GOOD CHOICE
Excellent analysis Doug. I have come to the same conclusion and have decided to cast my vote for Romney. The man exudes competence, poise, goodness, and tenacity. Just what the GOP needs and just what America needs. Of course he's not perfect (no candidate is). But he's got as impressive a background as I've seen in a long time. I think he will make an excellent candidate. My vote's for Romney.

NOBODY HAS A COPYRIGHT ON CHRISTIAN
Someone said: "Likewise, for evangelicals, Mormons are not “Christians” in the sense that evangelicals understand the term, and by portraying themselves as “Christians,” The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is deceptively wooing evangelicals or potential adherents away from Christianity."

LAST I CHECKED NOBODY HAD A COPYRIGHT ON THE TERM "CHRISTIAN."

ANYONE WHO BELIEVES IN JESUS AS SAVIOR IS A CHRISTIAN, NO MATTER HOW THEIR RELIGION GOT STARTED. MORMONISM IS A TYPE OF CHRISTIANITY, JUST LIKE PROTESTANTISM AND CATHOLICISM ARE DIFFERENT TYPES OF CHRISTIANITY.

PROTESTANTS WHO ARE SO ADAMENT THAT THEY ARE THE ONLY CHRISTIANS WOULD DO WELL TO REMEMBER THAT THE ORIGINAL CHRISTIAN CHURCH (THE CATHOLICS) CONSIDER PROTESTANTS TO BE HERETICS, SO IF YOU'RE GOING TO EXCLUDE MORMONS FROM CHRISTIANITY, BE PREPARED TO BE EXCLUDUED TOO.

The media is winning
The Main Stream Media and any good Republican worth his salt knows they want an all New York election and if not Hillary, then Hillary lite. Regan had a principle of not speaking ill of fellow Republicans.

First of all, every candidate has chinks in his armor. Even the great RR was pro choice at one time, had more than one marriage and estranged children. If we are looking for the perfect candidate, he will not be found. My first choice Gingrich had baggage. Huckabee has problems with the pardons and paroles and taxes, and now he has a "new" just in time for the caucus tough immigration stance, he is a moral person on the side of life. Romney, like Regan flipped from pro choice plus has all those who try to make his religion a "political" issue. Thompson has show all the dynamics of the old porch dog on Hee Haw. McCain a fine patriot tried to get us to swallow shamnesty and McCain Feingold. Guliani has the pro choice problem, marriages, and immigration.
Since Christ is not running for POTUS, we have to deal with the flaws. Some of us may have a few as well!
That said, after 56 years on this Earth, after Newt, I stand behind Romney. I do see in him character not unlike Regan. He is optimistic about America, came from a state of liberals (refined in the fire), converted to pro life, has administrative experience all over and has been the only candidate to bring up concerns about the threat of China to our economy. He obviously knows what creates jobs and economic strength first hand. He pulled out an Olympics mired in scandal and debt right after 911 and put into play anti-terrorism measures still being used today. Well, as RR said, there it is as I see it. I love a Romney/Huckabee or Romney/Gingrich or Romney/Tancredo ticket and strongly believe with either we can run away with the presidential election.

Missourian for Republicans

Out of touch with the Common Worker
Mitt Mandated that all residents of Massachusetts, ages 18 and older, obtain Health Insurance by 12-31-07 or be fined monthly and penalized on their Tax Return.

Although well intentioned, it creates yet another tax on the resident of Massachusetts.

Ex: I earn $52K per year(a median income), $39K after taxes, in Massachusetts for a Decent 4 Bedroom Home, it costs me $20K per year, Food $10K per year, Utilities $4K per year, Gas and Insurance and Maintenance on my vehicle $5K.

When calculating Health Insurance into the equation (based on my pay) it is an additional $5K per year ($422 per month).

Mitt doesn't know how to do "Poor Mans Math".

The Rich never do.....

Go ahead, pick Mitt, RAH RAH RAH!!!!

Change...
How about some real change in this country.

Does anyone have a clue about what is going on here?

Instead of everyone doing the "I'm a Republican, I'm a Democrat", therefore I'm sticking with my Party...

Why not Truly EVALUATE Each candidate with an open mind and vote for that person.

Type in the GOOGLE box, "Shenzhen China" to see how backwards China is... They are building a first rate city there. We are becomming the 3rd world country. Go there, do some HOMEWORK, and then look at the National Debt in this country.

This National Debt and the Feds continual printing of FIAT Money, is destroying Our Lives and MUCH MUCH Worse, our childrens lives...

Wake up, you brainwashed IDIOTS and realize where most of these "Same Old, Same Old" politicians are taking THIS Country. Jeez...

It's time to CHANGE Course, not follow this Economic Ship straight into the ICEBERG!!!

The best that can be said for Romney...
is that he doesn't have John McCain's temper. Philosophically, he is indeed Bush's heir. He is dishonest (flip-flopper), and would disappoint Republican voters tremendously.

zeppelin
if china is so advanced why do they have close to 20 of the most poluted cities in the world. They may have lots of money and very hard working people but they are also an ecological disaster. Exactly how are we becoming a third world nation. We have problems but they exist because far too many cirties are run by dims who enable poverty rather than push their citizens to excell. But that is the dims management style. Enable poverty and govt programs. You don't make peoples lives better but you do maintain a voting base. I have traveled around america and with the exception of places like philadelphia, baltimore, chicago, cleveland and detroit most of merica seems prosperous and well run. But it is appearant that dims are incapable of governing cities

Romney -- was he brainwashed too?
Romney's dad admitted to being brainwashed on Vietnam, remember? And Mitt the Flip Flop saw him march with Martin Luther King. Imagine that.

Heir of Bush? Suspect he is .. as he is as dishonest as they come.

Romney will say anything to please anyone. Of course he was a life time member of the NRA, as well as a charter member of the Brady organization to ban handguns. He objected to the Mormon Church's exclusion of blacks, but did NOTHING to change the Moron Church.

This guy has no clothes. See Double talking McCain is tied with him in New Hampshire. Huck A Bee may even win Iowa.

They are all stooges. Nominate any of them. The Democrats will win by a landside as they did in 1964. It's over for the GOP.

Susan
It's over for me too. Hopefully not so much for the GOP. Have a happy New Year and to all a Happy New Year!

susan
you have your candidates mixed up. It is the missus clinton who tells every special interesdt group what they want to hear and who is making promises she knows she will never deliver on. She wants to repeal all the tax breaks enacted by the bush administration to fund her plans to grow govt. Her problem is that she has overspent those amounts several times. But even the dims state they don't know what she stands for and that she is devious and can't be trusted. But as typical of the dims, they are driven more by bds than love of the missus clinton. But we on the right are still waiting for someone on your side to state the case that the missus clinton has done anything on her own and owes everything she has accomplished over the past 25 years to being bubba's wife. If there is a truly phony candidate running for potus it is the empty resume missus clinton

Party Pooper
Happy New Year to all you SHEEP.

For the last 5 elections, will someone tell me what "party" was running this country?

Hey, since it is too much work to actually decide who to pick, why not just draw a name out of a hat.

And by the way, Canada, Mexico and the United States are really just the same country, so let's just remove the borders and have a big PARTY.

Winner gets the first bag of Ameros, the new currency of N.A.

Vote for Hillary, she has nice hair...

My Gut instinct says to vote for Romney...

How about Jeb Bush, we need more Bush in the White House.

How about Alan Greenspan, he knows how to print those GreenBacks, and lend all of us Debtors all the Dough we need, No Income Verification Required or Credit Check....

How about Mickey Mouse, with Minnie as the first lady. Dats all cute and cuddly....

Does anyone in this site have any clue about economics, I know it's sooo Dull, but when Americans Life and Liberty is what this country was founded on, that gift is being given away to the likes of foreign countries, you know the reason we have borders???

To maintain an AMERICAN LIFESTYLE, NOT A U.N. LIFESTYLE!!!

Romney is Solid Gold
I am very impressed with the leadership record of Mitt Romney as described so well by Doug Wilson in this column. Romney is not perfect for sure, but neither are any of the candidates. However, Romney has shown that he can accomplish the work of governing in a democratically controlled state. The next president will need to be able to forward the republican platform while working with a democratically controlled house. Not an easy task to accomplish as evidenced by the current gridlock. Furthermore, as Mr Wilson described, he managed a very successful investment firm. Some who are posting comments seem to be forgetting that the free market and the private sector are what fuel the economy and prosperity of our marvelous country. I am inclined to support Mitt Romney because he has been able to achieve stellar results in both the private sector and in government, and in my view that takes Talent! The best predictor of future performance is past performance.

Economics 101
For anyone who would like to know what economic condition this Great Country is in, go to the following site: http://www.patrick.net and check out how this mortgage crisis is ready to destroy our way of lives.

This site has some great economic info from VARIOUS sources: "BusinessWeek", "Wall Street Journal","NYTimes", "LATimes", and a large variety of well known media resources.

That is the best way to make an IMPORTANT DECISION, such as who will LEAD this country for US. Get info about some one or some thing from MULTIPLE Resources.

If you read what I am saying, I'm not pushing any candidate down anyones throat.

I am asking the American Public to do SOME research on ALL of the candidates.

Then don't let anyone sway your choice.

Decide what is important to you, then pick the one who is CLOSEST to YOUR values...

Done what?
One last post before "Wishing" in a Great New Year.

I've gone a little bit Brain Dead...

What has GW done for the people of this country?

What did Billy Boy do for the people of this country?

What did the other Bush do for the people of this country?

Who do these Public Servants Serve?

Since when is Foreign Policy more important than Domestic Policy?

You live in what Country?

It's time to make AMERICA STRONG AGAIN...

All these Pizzant Countries around the globe ARE NOT States of this country.

It's Time to focus on this country.

Vote change, BEFORE it's too late.

You say you earn $52k/year? and your take-home is in the upper $30s?

The FairTax would untax your earnings allowing you to take home all of your $52k (less whatever your state confiscates from your paycheck)

While all of the Dems state they want to pick and choose who pays high taxes and who pays little or no taxes, Mike Huckabee's support for the FairTax is in concert with over SIX DOZEN congressional cosponsors that have endorsed HR-25 & S1025 (The FairTax).

So while other candidates spue feel-good platitudes to fill a 30 second sound bite, Mike Huckabee is advocating a bill that is actually in congress and has the support of almost 20% of the US House of Representatives.

Which means you get to keep your paycheck... and instead of having to earn $10,000 so you could write me a check for my $7500 used car, you could pay me the $7500 and still have $2500 in your pocket.

That's $2500 you could put toward your child's education, or downpayment for a home, or invest it (tax free) for retirement.

While others tell you what they think you want to hear, Huckabee supports a plan that is really an existing bill in congress.

Since he is a constrictor, he must keep you warm on these chilly winter nights!!!

Most Christians will not vote for Romney
Romney is a Clinton clone telling voters not what he believes, but what they want to hear.

His across the board Liberal positions on social issues while governor of Massachusetts (pro-choice, pro-gay marriage, pro-amnesty, pro-fetal stem cell research, pro-liberal judges, anti-second ammendment, etc.) and then proceeds to do an across the board flip flop on every issue just so he can run as a "Republican" and pander for conservative votes.

This is a guy who was Anti-Reagan all during the 80's and 90's.

50+ year old politicians like Romney don't just suddenly flip flop on all of their positions, they conceal their true beliefs.

That tells us all we need to know about this plastic phony.

Most evangelical Christians will not vote for Romney, so it's impossible for him to win In the general election, because a Republican CANNOT win in the general election without the Christian vote.

I am one of many Christian conservative Republicans who absolutely will NEVER vote for this disgusting man.

To Lily and SteveL
I have read many, but not all of the posts to this blog but was particularly bothered and want to respond to a couple:

SteveL, you sound like a whiney liberal complaining about a CEO issuing you a pink slip. My guess was there was some serious cutting that needed to be done in your company and the CEO was making the company stronger and more profitable by having to reduce costs. Invariably, over time that needs to be done and it takes courage for someone strong to make that decision. Instead of whining and blaming the CEO you should have looked at it as an opportunity to move onto something even better. I have been issued pionk slips 3 times in my life and I know how scary and even devastating that can be; however, I moved forward and now own a multi-million dollar company. That's what makes this such a great country. That liberal mentality of whining and blaming the big bad CEO for not taking care of you is very unbecoming.

Lily, I am also wearying of hearing that Mitt was caught in that huge lie about seeing his Dad march with MLK. Puh-lease! I watched my dad die at the young age of 43. I was only 15 at the time and was not at hosipital at the time of death. Am I a liar for saying I watched my dad die young?

Not the wrong man --
but Romney's not the most right. Flaws? Of course. But the criticisms have reasonable answers, as I point out at length here:

http://forgottenprophets.blogspot.com/2007/12/hobgobblin.ht ml

As for his being so very right, I don't suppose being a business man is any more qualification than being a housewife -- you know, like Hillary. No, my example is not without its weaknesses. But perhaps you see my point? If it's about resumes, Rudy matches Romney, 9/11 for Olympics. Then we take a look at New York City, compared to Mass. No comparison. That's my two cents.

J

And yet another Romney love piece
Romney has no credibility on so many issues that he can't be taken seriously as a Presidential candidate, let alone one for the GOP, even if his dad did walk with MLK.......well, not really walk with him but.......well, you know.

Another Shill for McRomney!
Amazing what money can buy!

romney ve the missus clinton
the left hails the empty resume of the missus clinton as her qualifiers for potus but romney has real life accomplishments to cite as his qualifiers. But there is essentially no on the job training for potus but running the country calls for a different mindset than running a state. Some call romney a flip flopper but making decisions at the state level is far different from those affecting the entire country. Fort mosty voters elections always concern local issues. Only potus calls for national thinking and romney a willingness to expand his thinking

A Great Message Excellent Posts
After the primaries are over and the candidates are chosen, who do you think you will see? The most popular candidates or the most capable and principled candidates?

We are not voting on the AMES Awards. We are electing an executive, CEO, Commander and Chief, a President; a leader of a nation, the largest business in the world. Good intentions are not enough. They say that the road to Hell is built on the cobblestones of good intentions and so is failure.

Experience, education, energy, initiative, private victories, and public victories, in business, social, and political enterprises, of raising the skeletons out of the ashes of failure. That is the person to vote for. Who do you know who fits that profile? That candidate will not be like Peter Pan or Tinker Bell.

When Is Honesty Dishonest?

This is not a paradox. It is a serious question concerning integrity and ethical, veracious communications and actions. It is about honest sincere perceptions and intent of the heart.

Intent is the key. Honesty becomes dishonest when a truth is used to exploit, distort, or used to mislead, or deceive, in order to take advantage.

Mitt did not lie. His ads present the track records and the positions, which Mike Huckabee and John Mc Cain have always defended. Their performance does not come close to Mitt Romney's and that is why his numbers are rising, because everyone is checking things out for themselves, on every candidate.

His ads actually are very kind, because it is helping voters to see that he is honest, practical and fare, while he is disciplined and organized, giving strong leadership, and he will not make a promise he will not keep, nor will he distort the truth. Be informed, Vote your Conscience.

If Romney was such a good governor....
then why do the Mass State Police have to order troopers to raise an additional $1.2 million in speeding tickets next year?

http://www.thenewspaper.com/news/21/2130.asp

The article above reports that to offset a budget shortfall, troopers are being ordered to hand out more tickets! This makes the act of ticketing a revenue generator rather than a punishment for a crime.

Now before all this is blamed on Romney's successor read the last part of the story;

...on January 1. In 2006, the Massachusetts courts joined with insurance companies in encouraging the state police to offer bonus time off to troopers as an incentive for writing extra traffic tickets.

This above action occurred during his administration, his term didn't end till Jan of 2007.

What a great leader! (sic)

He works with the state legislature to create a financial situation where the state troopers become tax collectors in order offset budget shortfalls, and the courts in Mass join with insurance companies (special interest, they get to raise rates on the ticketed drivers) to reward the troopers who write extra tickets.

A Vote For Mitt Is A Vote For Liberty
It has been a good thing this has been a long campaign, because of the new GOP saviors that pop up and are propped up by the MSM as last minuet spoilers, Heralded by the same flip-flopping commentators in the heap of Liberal-Statists. Your empty claims, your bogus links, your and nay saying, and chanted regurgitated messages are figments in you own mind, or intended deception.

Believing what you think without confirmation, is to be wise with you own eyes fully closed as you pull the trigger, claiming that what the hit was the target.

I hope you have someone friend out there to balance your CHECK BOOK THIS YEAR.

Best to you All - HAVE A VERY HAPPY AND PROSPEROUS NEW YEAR!

Thanks For An Easy Question!

The answer to you question is easy. Mitt Romney is not the Governor. MA. had a over one billion dollars surplus when Mitt's term ended. So who do you think spent the money? The current Liberal Governor

And a bit more digging turns up....
Cities Eliminate Right to Contest Parking Ticket

In Boston and other cities in Massachusetts, motorists cannot challenge a $100 parking ticket in court without first paying a $275 court fee. If found innocent, the motorist does not receive a refund of the $275.

Massachusetts: Report Documents Toll Road Mismanagement

Report finds that mismanagement threatens the financial viability of Massachusetts toll roads.

The Massachusetts Transportation Finance Commission last week released a report documenting mismanagement of state's road network, including mismanagement of toll roads. The report issued a dire warning about the broad decline in the quality of roads and the selling-off of assets to mask deficit spending.

"The Massachusetts transportation system is in deep financial trouble," the report states. "Virtually every transportation agency in the state is running structural deficits and resorting to short-term quick fixes that hide systemic financial problems."

Loss of rights to challenge a citation due to a high court fee requirement which exceeds the fine and is required to be paid in advance of any court challenge....

More evidence of financial mismanagement, this time with the state toll roads.

Oh, but hey, Mitt is the man of the hour for those not impacted by such poor leadership.

More on the state police to offer bonus
time off to troopers;

Massachusetts State Police Offer Cops Money for Tickets
Court system and insurance industry pressures Massachusetts State Police into giving cash overtime bonuses for writing traffic tickets.

Police unions are up in arms over a Massachusetts State Police offer of cash for traffic tickets. Under a program that became public last week, troopers are given a 1.5 hour bonus on their time sheet for writing a ticket, but only one hour for a written warning and just half-an-hour for a verbal warning. The move cuts in half the amount of credit given for the verbal warning and brings troopers half-an-hour closer to lucrative overtime payments for every ticket issued.

The Boston Herald reports that insurance companies and the courts had pressured police into making the move because both make millions from traffic fines. The overtime bonus payments can increase a trooper's hourly wage by 50 percent, or even double it during holidays.

Union officials in the Western and South Shore areas where the program is in place told the Herald that the program eliminates officer discretion and that, like a ticket quota, troopers are being threatened with punishments for failure to issue more tickets.

"I absolutely refuse to write tickets unless somebody really deserves it," one trooper told the Herald. "You think twice before you take $600 out of somebody's pocket."

Contrary to Spiceman's claim of bogus links, the above was from the Boston Hearald, then re-published at thenewspaper.com.

And I knew someone like Spiceman would blame the new governor. I cited this story because it involves the state police which are under the governor's authority and it happened on Mitt's watch. In 2006 Mitt was still in office as governor of Mass.

More on the lost right to a court
hearing in Mass.

Massachusetts: Appealing Parking Tickets Made Impossible

Framingham, Massachusetts resident learns she has to pay $330 to receive an independent hearing on a $200 parking ticket.

For many Massachusetts residents, it's practically impossible to appeal a parking ticket before an independent judge. Framingham resident Deborah Adcock learned this the hard way when the city charged her $200 for parking in a handicapped space. Adcock suffers from a debilitating condition known as fibromyalgia and has a valid handicapped parking permit. On August 22, she neglected to flip down her visor to make the permit visible.

Adcock mailed her appeal to the city which was denied by the hearing officer Allan Nardini. Nardini is a former Framingham Police captain, he still reports his hours to the police department and he is paid by the city.

"It's infuriating to me that there is no common sense on the part of the hearing officer," Adcock told the MetroWest Daily News. "He knows what I'll have to go through. To me it's astonishing and I'm flabbergasted and shocked."

Hearing officers know that they can dismiss appeals without reading them because ticket recipients have no realistic means of challenging their decision. To fight the $200 ticket before an impartial judge, Adcock learned she had to pay a non-refundable $275 fee to the Middlesex Superior Court in Cambridge, plus $25-55 in other fees. She decided not to appeal and, so far, not to pay the fine.

In contrast to Mitt's Mass., Arkansas
has laws on the boobs to limit abuse of traffic laws to generate revenue.

Arkansas: Small Towns Push to Repeal Speed Trap Law

Arkansas Municipal League pushing to allow small towns to collect more than half of their annual operating revenue from speed traps.

Small towns in Arkansas are angry that state law does not permit more than a third of their annual operating budget to come from traffic citations. In response, the Arkansas Municipal League proposed changes to the legislature last week. The League wants towns to earn half of their revenue from speeding tickets.

The existing anti-speed trap law also prohibits issuing more than half of all speeding tickets for 10 MPH or less. Even this provision has not stopped cities from lowering speeding limits to entrap motorists, according to data from the SpeedTrap Exchange website which allows motorists to document areas notorious for unfair ticket activity.

"Some cities have got some really small budgets," the League's Executive Director, Don Zimmerman, told The Morning News. "If, in fact, they are limited to no more than 30 percent of their revenue from traffic violations exceeding 10 miles an hour, there are some places that can't even write a ticket a day."

Romney turning back 2 kid in wheel chair
Whether or not the kid had a valid question or not, my point simple. Romney turned his back on him because he didn't agree with the kids point. He left the kid in his wheel chair while he was respectfully asking Romney a question.

A real leader would have listened to the kid with Muscular Dystrophy, and then gave him an answer. You can see the resentment Romney had for the kid because Romney thinks he is better than him.

A similar question was presented to John MCcain, and MCcain gave the lady an honest answer, even though he didn't agree with her. I'm sure most of the candidates don't agree with medical mar. But watch how Romney treats this kid.

Mitt Romney walked away from the kid because he thought the kid was a piece of dirt. The video is very clear.

If you can not walk among the sick and talk to them like they are human, then you do not belong in drivers seat of America.

Watch the video and decide for your self. It is very clear that Romney is a rich snob and only cares about the power of being the President of the United States.

I don't want somebody like that representing us. Lets put our votes with the honorable Mr. Mike Huckabee.

watch the video and see what I'm talking about. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NY6UTnS6Z-A

I support Mike Huckabee for president 100%

Just how smart are Iowans
January 3, 2008 will show just how smart Iowans are, Huckabee is a hypocrite, will Iowans see through his hypocrisy or be taken in by it? It will be interesting to see.

Romney makes me nervous
Being a Democrat, Romney makes me nervous because
he reminds me so much, on the surface, of JFK.
Both were good looking, come from Massachusetts,
had problems with the religion thing. But the big difference is that JFK was dedicated to the common man and his plight, while Romney is dedicated to being just like Bush.

I cannot for the life of me believe that anyone would want even one more year of Bush. I am still in a fog as how Bush got to be president for the second term.

But that is water over the dam I guess. Please,
please, please don't let it happen again. If it
does I truly will spend my retirement in the South of France or Tuscany.

Lemonade
If you elect to spend your retirement in the South of France, then you have endorsed a country that spits in the face of the US and we gave her some of our best sons and fathers blood to purchase her from the Nazis. If that is your propensity, so be it. It speaks volumes about your character.

Rayfinn
Trust me, your opinion of me is a matter of
complete indifference to me.

P.S. France does not spit in the face of the
Americans. You can trust that too.

Huck on top 10 with Rudy and Hillary
source http://www.judicialwatch.org/judicial-watch-announces-list -washington-s-ten-most-wanted-corrupt-politicians-2007

6. Governor Mike Huckabee (R-AR): Governor Huckabee enjoyed a meteoric rise in the polls in December 2007, which prompted a more thorough review of his ethics record. According to The Associated Press: “[Huckabee’s] career has also been colored by 14 ethics complaints and a volley of questions about his integrity, ranging from his management of campaign cash to his use of a nonprofit organization to subsidize his income to his destruction of state computer files on his way out of the governor’s office.” And what was Governor Huckabee’s response to these ethics allegations? Rather than cooperating with investigators, Huckabee sued the state ethics commission twice and attempted to shut the ethics process down.

Keeps good company, Hillary, Rudy, Obama, etc.

I know! Let's make him president and see if we can raise our esteem of Bush.

A CEO For President
Romney has put together a product that sells well to a broad spectrum of conservatives. Like a good CEO, he knows that what sold for Massachussetts Democrat liberals will not appeal to Republicans in the rest of the nation. So he has changed the product. But does he believe in the new product at any level deeper than its voter appeal? Who Knows? His record suggests that when the market changes, the product will change. There is nothing in his political past that gives us confidence that he is a person of deep political convictions. Which is to say, he is not a conservative. He is a consummate politician and a terrific businessman - which means lots of compromises and more big government. No thanks.

I agree....
... with the post above, titled "Duncan Hunter is the real deal" -- he truly IS the best, most consistent, conservative, and honest candidate in this election, but for some reason, he has not taken off in the polls. I think he was largely ignored during the debates, and didn't have enough opportunity to make his views known to the American people, beyond the borders of California, where he has shown the greatest integrity and consistency of any candidate, during his long political career. He IS what this country needs right now, but I doubt that he will be able to take the lead at this point. Instead, I feel strongly that I will have to hold my nose and vote for whatever candidate the Republican Party spews forth, because any one of them is better than the (Democrat) alternatives. :o(
