How Not to be A Cho Seung Hui

Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

This past week Sheryl Crow instructed us all on how we could save our planet: namely, by wiping our Chattahoochee canal with only one sheet of toilet paper. Sheryl, if you really want to cool the earth, really commit and don’t use any TP. If you truly believe the specious global warming doo-doo, Sher, then none has got to be better than one. Go commando, Crow!

Not being an aging, pot smoking hippie—but a very concerned dad—I think we should be showing young adults how not to be a Cho Seung Hui. Call me unhip, but I’m more concerned about how we can wipe a would-be Cho off the planet than I am about how a single ply of Charmin helps regulate the earth’s surface temperatures, thereby saving the polar bear. Which reminds me, I still didn’t get my polar bear permit for this fall’s hunt.

The video left by Cho affords great insight into this sick gnat’s psyche, which provides us with a good blueprint on how not to become twisted and pathetic. Three principle evils repeatedly showed up in this petty ninja turtle’s video montage.

1. Self pity. One thing that came screaming out of the Cho video was this little wussie’s “poor me” mentality. Poor widdle Cho. Nobody likey you? You’ve got a rough life. This young man suffered from all the injustices of an upper middle class life: iPods, high speed internet service, the ability to attend a stellar university in a first world country with enough surplus cash to buy a frickin’ arsenal and employ a stripper to entertain him in a hotel room. If only American Idol’s execs would have found out about Seung’s sad subsistence they could have held a telethon just for him to relieve his stress, which far out weighs what others are suffering in third world countries. . . . Not.

If you, the young person, do not want to get anywhere close to being a Cho Seung Weed, then drop the pathetic waa waa stuff now. You live in America, dammit. You’re blessed no matter how much your life might temporarily reek. Grow up. People across America, join me in doing this: when one of our young citizens starts a pity party in our presence, let’s take the toilet paper we’re now saving (thanks to Sheryl Crow) and cram it down the ungrateful narcissist’s whining pie hole.

2. Blameshifting. Cho, the feeble blowhard, said Mercedes Benz, cognac, rich kids and hedonism forced his hand to kill people. Cho, if you can hear me through all the screaming you’re doing in hell right now, why didn’t you join the chunky and demented Rosie O’Donnell and blame Christianity and President Bush, as well?

Young person, to avoid a meet and greet with Seung Hui in Satan’s sulphur pit, quit blaming others for your actions. People who do that sound like dismal weasels. Look, if circumstances (or your own terrible choices) toss you into dire straits, put on your thinking cap and try to figure how you can best field this bad deal. And in the mean time, suck it up, play the man, cease the sniveling, find the high road in your SNAFU and blow us all away by turning your lemon into lemonade—alright, Puss-N-Boots?

3. Isolation. Young person, if you don’t want to think freaky thoughts that lead to doing foul things, then quit being a loner. Most people get weird when they spend too much time alone. I understand the need to be by yourself. I like my alone time, too. I need it.

When alone I pray, read the scripture or other great books, enjoy a nice cigar, and I sing AC/DC songs at the top of my lungs while wearing a Spartan outfit from the movie 300. But I’ve learned through years of practiced solitude that there are a few telltale signs indicating I need to cease from my solo time and become more social:

• When my seclusion begins to spawn convoluted conspiracy theories.

• When I believe my dog Spunky is commanding me, in Spanish, to start a revolution.

• When I begin to think that I am the prophet Elijah that is to precede Christ in his Second Coming, etc.

Cho went loopy being a loner. That crazy bastard did not have people around him to tell him he was a crazy bastard, because he was a crazy bastard that drove off non crazy bastards. Young person, you can get unweird by getting out more often. Be friendly. Take the rejection chip off your shoulder. Buy The Idiot’s Guide to Not Being a Jerk and get a few buddies who feel the love, freedom and responsibility to crow bar you away from your demons when they manifest—alright?

If our young ones would just suck in their pouty lip, cease to blame others because their life blows and do the Rodney King and try to get along, we could circumvent a lot of egregious behavior—not to mention Cho-like murderous mayhem.

too nice out
It is way to nice outside to deal with anything on this site today. I've wasted three minutes already writing this.
See ya all on a rainy day.
God Bless

Feelin' for the kin
I certainly agree with the advice to young people. Sad to think of Cho's parents, who could very well be Christians, and for all we know, he might have accepted the Lord when he was younger. Haven't seen any press on either one of these things.

Doug, I appreciate your no nonsence (sp?) approach. Keep up the good work, and join me in praying for that young man's family.

right on
dont you know you wont be asked to speak at any liberal schools talking like that?

Hey what about that nutty poet
professor-ette who gave such a bizarre speech at the convocation? Nikki Giovanni used the occasion to spew her personal activist rant material.

She seemed as derranged as Cho himself, and I wonder why the college thought her vile meanderings would be comforting to the survivors of the massacre.

Victim mentality.

Cho and Giovanni have a lot in common.

Dude, find a better dealer, please!
Cho didn't get the way he was because he picked up a lot of self-pity from the liberal society around him. Something that works one way in my brain (and yours, although occasionally your columns make me wonder....) just didn't do that in his brain. What he got from a culture in which self-pity and blameshifting are emphasized is simply a vocabulary to express the horror in his mind. If he'd lived in ancient Sparta or 12th century Finland he would have found cultural materials to use.

That reminds me: ever hear of berserker behavior among the Vikings, or amok in the Philippines, or arctic madness in far northern Sibera? Those folks went nuts and killed everyone they could, and I doubt very much if they'd ever heard of blameshifting as a creation of liberal culture.

What a Terrible Article
This article is obscene. Evidence suggests strongly that Cho suffered from paranoid schizophrenia. This severe mental illness can't be cured (or avoided) by exhortation, religion, friendliness, good living, or the kind intentions of others. It is not curable by counseling. It can usually be controlled with medication, which works best if the patient is also supported by regular meetings with a mental health professional. It is not a manifestation of evil. It is not evidence of satanic possession. State-of-the-art thought is that schizophrenia is caused by a fault in brain biochemistry. I really can't believe the nonsense I have been reading about Cho. Yes, he killed 32 people, but he also suffered, probably for years, and his young life is also lost. And almost always, schizophrenia is a tragedy for the patient's family. Is there such a thing on townhall as empathy? As common sense?

NO
Unforturnately, insanity is not something you choose, it chooses you. Genetics and brain chemistry aren't something you can tough out.

Unfortunate column
Everyone spouting off about Sheryl Crow confirms the existence of the right-wing echo chamber. The left has one too, but don't you righties think for one moment that you don't have one as well. None of you people apparently read where the one-sheet thing came from. It is impossible to believe that Crow's toilet paper comment was anything other than a joke. Does anyone believe that Crow believes that it is possible to use just one sheet? Please. No one would ever suggest that.

I'm not sure what to think about Giles. Was this supposed to be a joke? If so, Crow is much better at joking than Giles. Giles gives decent advice to people who are not mentally ill: Self-pity, blameshifting, and isolation are all undesirable. But all of these things are fairly common and yet Cho's actions are decidedly uncommon. Clearly something else was going on. From everything that has come out about Cho's life, this person was clearly mentally ill. Mental illness like schizophrenia can't be cured by the sheer force of will. You can't just "suck it up."

Am I wrong to wonder if Giles is one of those on the right who doesn't believe in mental illness? Is he one of those people who actually believe that the human brain is not susceptible to biological defects which can lead to abnormal behavior? Does he believe that mental illness was cooked up by liberals who want to make excuses for bad behavior? The belief that the most complicated structure in the human body will always work fine as long as liberalism and satan are kept away is ridiculous and guarantees further tragedies. If we can accept that a biological defect can lead to chronic ingrown toenails, why is it so difficult to believe that a biological defect could lead to mental illness? Folks, the human brain is more than capable of falling apart all by itself. No help is required.

I know most people who visit TH want the lesson of Virginia Tech to be that we need more guns, but the real lesson is that we should learn as much as possible about mental illness. We need to teach parents that it is decidedly not normal for a person in his or her early 20s to have never had a friend. We need to eliminate all stigmas associated with mental illness. We need to reach out to immigrant communities from cultures where mental illness is still regarded as a moral failure that must be hidden. We need to help families help their loved ones with mental illness get help.

Reason
You write that we need to eliminate all stigmas associated with mental illness. A significant element in the run up to the horror at VT was the fact that society has decided that people with mental illness have to be considered normal. The laws are written to deny information about the mentally ill from being from revealed even to those in a position to help.

We have taken the desire to remove the stigma so far that the rest of society has been left unprotected. The authorities in society that have the responsibilty for public safety have to be in a position of being pro-active when dealing with the mentally ill.

Trulib, Reason
You folks have put your fingers on a difficult area. Namely, proactive dealings with people who are dangers to the public weal. Perhaps its a bit inefficient to even discuss this area, when people who are proven and obvious dangers, murderers, pedophiles, armed robbers, are routinely released onto the public. But preventive action is a concept with the potential to give govt huge new and dangerous power. Who decides what is insanity? What are the penalties for being insane? Once again its "we're from the govt and we're here to help". Given the incompetence and ineffectiveness of the current criminal/jurisprudence system, i shudder to think about giving govt the power to act on what someone thinks you are going to do.

While not a big fan of his writing style
I think Mr. Giles points are well made.

However, I doubt if his target audience, disaffected youth who have not yet made the transition to permanent mental illness, are very likely to be reading this column. But at least he tries.

Lilly
I'm sorry, but I have absolutely zero empathy for Cho. He mass murdered 32 people, Lilly. How on earth could you feel sorry for him? I feel empathy for his parents and the survivors' families. I also feel empathy for US, because now the gun grabbers are out in full force trying to make sure the rest of us cannot protect ourselves from someone else bent on killing us.

gently99
You're right. This is a very slippery slope and one we best not go down.

ummm, Liberty.
You feel "sympathy" for these folks. You can feel empathy ONLY if you have suffered like they have! Forgive me for being nosy.

Rick
I used to get a little annoyed at misspelled and/or misused words but i soon found i make so many errors myself that i appreciated the forbearance of the old hands. I just attribute all errors to mis-strikes.
Doing my perpetually inadequate proofreading, i think i may have made several boo-boos in this post so i'll quit before i get further behind.

What about Ismail Ax?
I hate to stretch too far, but it was reported in Virginia newspapers that Cho had "Ismail Ax" written in red ink on his arm. Ismail was the "illegitimate" son of Abraham, who by Islamic accounts was offered to God as a sacrifice with an ax as opposed to Issac and a knife. Is there any truth to this reported inscription? If so, could Cho have been influenced to this mass murder by the religion of peace?
Christianity teaches that everyone is ultimately accountable to a higher being for all they've done. Islam teaches that certain murders result in eternal rewards from a higher being and humanism teaches a man is only accountable to himself. If Cho was influenced by Islam, his actions speak for themselves- he destroyed infidels. If he was guided by humanism, his accountability to anyone ceased when he killed himself. The constant destruction of Christian principles in this country could have contributed to all of this. When Christianity held some sway in the US, even non-believers were socially restrained by the possibilty they would have to account to the God they did not believe in.

As Far As I am Concerned
Whenever a person, for whatever reason, decides to go mad-dog, then he or she deserves a mad-dog's fate. This is not about their lack of morals, or their ability to fulfill the social contract; rather, my point is simply about what members of society absolutely need to do when presented with an existential threat, whether of the four-legged or two-legged variety.

BTW: Anyone who is part of the "Cho was victim too" school of thought because he had psychological issues had better look a bit more closely at Cho's case. The danger of lumping Cho in with all other psychotics is that people are then going to look at each and every psychotic person as an existential threat, and deal with him or her in the same manner as if he or she was a rabid canine, in other words - KBAM! People who fall under the all-too-unmbrella term "psychosis" fall into a very large range from merely being self-destructive at one end and being and imminent social threat at the other. Anyone not in the grip of dementia or catatonia has some thinking capacity, and to that extent, can be "reasoned" with, especially if you follow the K.I.S.S. principle, to wit: if you cross this bright line of expected social compliance, either one of two things will happen to you: incarceration or death. Cho was a clever little punk, he knew perfectly well that once he started his shooting spree that those were his only two possibilities, and that's why his suicidal finale was planned from the very start.

My point? While Cho may have had psychological issues, he had a very significant rational streak which enabled him to plan and execute a rather complex terror operation single-handedly. The VT massacre was Cho's show from beginning to end; that's not the image of the pitiable psychotic. If you also take into account that Cho's last video diatribe was just a long-winded rationalization for what he was about to do, then one is lead to think that he was severely neurotic, rather then insane. As such, that makes Mr. Cho sane, evil, and Satan's punk.

We cannot suppress what is news, BUT there is a great danger that some will miss the messages...

I am passing along below an excellent piece in TIME about the nutcase at Va. Tech and others of his warped ilk... I agree with that op-ed that we are looking in the wrong places (gun control, violence in the media, etc.) to fathom that we might obviate such nuts, or to try to comprehend the incomprehensible. The reality is that there are ALWAYS a handful of the lost and the damned... the biggest mass murderer was in Russia-- he never saw American TV, and guns were less readily available.

Here is a selected excerpt:
"Freud explained narcissism as a failure to grow up. All infants are narcissists, he pointed out, but as we grow, we ought to learn that other people have lives independent of our own. It's not their job to please us, applaud for us or even notice us-- let alone die because we're unhappy."

We could jump thru hoops passing tighter gun control laws, but they would have no effect on guys like this. The PC liberal crowd who now cry out for more gun controls were the same ilk who demanded privacy "rights" for the mentally disturbed and clearly warped like Cho at Va. Tech.

We should indeed be concerned about violence/trash generally because it debases the culture and us as a people-- NOT because it inspires the handful of puerile, self-obsessed misanthropes and psychotics waiting to explode. They tar and feather Imus for saying what rappers make mega-millions bleating routinely-- that he targeted his supercilious, sardonic rap-parodied calumny is a distinction of little difference.

Speaking of guns and crime, ILLEGAL aliens typicially buy a "pistola" early on after they get here with their often untaxed, ILLEGAL income-- we SHOULD WORRY ABOUT THEM and their gangs, drugs, crimes, ethnocentricity, balkanization, and identity and welfare fraud permeating like a metastasizing cancer through the body politic. It was not raining when Noah began construction of his ark-- there are none so blind as they who will not see.

Here is the REAL message/moral from the tragedy at Va. Tech:

Cho
A good killing came from this--Cho did the right thing: He did himself in!

Cho and Sheryl
Re: Cho - One thing, it showed how much damage can be done by one with a gun, and 35 without one.

Rosie and the other person - I wouldn't want to sit by them in a theater or on a bus... phew.

Could Sheryl have been joking? I hope so.

lilly----
Your post shows ignorance. You validated everything Doug said. My daughter is 17 1/2 years old and I just brought her for an abortion. I am not proud of this. She says "its not my fault". The hell it aint! Keep your legs closed. Always someone elses fault. If you have 5$ in your po%ket and a car, and a fridge with food in it, you are one of the top 5% of the richest folks in the world. Stop whining.

Cho - Reason
Reason has excellent points. I agree whole heartedly. Calling Cho and other mentally ill or even misfits, cute little names such as whacko, sicko, mitigates the seriousness of their mental attitude and/or illness. Those are kids' words when they razz another kid. This is serious business. The schools at any level need to be aware of behavior that is odd and put the techers' notes together to recognize patterns.

McVey was just anti-whatever, the 9/11 terrorists were anti-America, but the Columbine incident and Cho were literally out of their minds. Early recognition might have prevented both tragic events.

Sheryl Crow
She says she was joking. However, she appears to be yet another individual worried about all of OUR carbon footprints, while she opts herself out of such concerns.

This interview with her and the producer of Albore's movie is quite funny. The interviewer shows them up for the idiots they are:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_i8xZopJq_U&eurl=

..."when the global warming warrior hits the road, her touring entourage (and equipment) travels in three tractor trailers, four buses, and six cars. Now that's a carbon footprint!"
http://www.thesmokinggun.com/backstagetour/scrow/scrow1.html

Face It!
This Oddjob wannabe left one positive. He showed all America just how big a joke the "Gun Free Zone" is.

To Liberty
1) Your post seems not to acknowedge the difference between empathy and sympathy. Understanding that mental illness is an illness, in Cho's case probably a neurochemically- or biogenetically-determined one, is not the same thing as saying we sympathize with what he did.

2) The instant you refer to those seeking to limit gun ownership to the legally sane as "gun-grabbers" you expose yourself. And I won't argue with you---if you are a trained marksman and had been present in one of those classrooms, armed, ready to draw, and not subject to Cho's shock-and-surprise tactic, you may very well have been able to kill him and thus save lives. I wish with all my heart you had been.

Mental stability?
How often do you see some perverted Lib come to TH name calling and insult the author without reading the article then throw out a general insult to all conservatives?
Make you wonder about their mental process?

Illness?
We seem, in our "educated" world ,to immediatly ascribe to people such as Cho , Kleebold a diagnosis of mental illness. I don't believe we want to face up to the posibility that some people in this world are indeed evil, in spite numerous examples of such evil. That would force us to admit that there is such a thing as good ,and evil.

Something bipartisan;
RE: The new Fluorescent light bulbs;
The enclosed link does a good job of explaining the expenses involved but failed to mention the danger to children.
Unlike a car coming down the street, children don't recognize fine particles of a poisonous white powder as any more dangerous than talcum or blackboard chalk on an eraser.
What if a child breaks one of these bulbs and tries to clean it up? Or a child finds some in a trash can and decides to play with them? Mercury can kill in sufficient concentration but exposure from a single broken compact fluorescent bulb is more likely to cripple or disfigure a child.
Help prevent tragedy by alerting as many people as you can.

http://www.foxnews.com/printer_friendly_story/0,3566,268747,00.html

MyOpine
Thanks. What do we do about alerting our governments who want to stuff fluorescent light bulbs down our throat by force?

Bytheocean
I don't know any solution for politicians.
They tend to jump to conclusions without checking the facts, take a firm position and then imbed their feet in concrete because they refuse to admit errors.

We can pass the word about the danger though.
Knowledge is the greatest safety device.

I have seen examples of mercury poisoning in the CA gold country and gone skinnydipping in rivers with men who have no hair anywhere, not even a whisker or eyelash. ALL teeth gone, no fingernails or toenails.
I heard it can also cause blindness.
I was not aware it can do mental damage as well but it does not surprise me.
Nice thing to happen to a little child?
Try to get the word out.

My Opine
Living in California, can you imagine the toxic waste cleanup bill after an earthquake?

Also fish carry mercury so we can get the toxic effects without witnessing such a light bulb break.

Great. Our pets are being poisoned. They divert the tainted pet food to pigs and chickens for human consumption. The bees are having problems which threaten our fruits and vegetables and flowers. The corporate giants want to clone animals which does away with natural diversity which means that one germ can wipe out a whole food supply. The government has plans to force us to use new light bulbs that can poison our fish.
Grrrr.

Skinny dipping and Virginia Tech?
I'm trying to connect light bulbs to the Virginia Tech massacre, reaaly struggling with that connection, and skinny dipping with hairless men...is that what led to this mass murder? Can't we just stick to name calling?

Not to worry
All the bees are mysteriously dying. According to the International Beekeepers Assoc., they have found a tie to the pesticides bio-engineered into genetically-modified food, especially GMO corn.

If we don't have bees, we will not have food for more than a few more years. Voila. No more worries about the state of political affairs.

AND BEES TOO!!!!
Say it isn't so, Cho was tied to the bee massacre too and it isn't the bee mites (parasite) that are responsible? He keeps killing from the grave!!!!

reply to Reason
I think it's quite possible that Doug doesn't believe in mental illness. Since conservatives like to believe that everything everybody does all the time is completely freely chosen, how can there be such a thing as disorders in brain chemistry that lead to bizarre ways of thinking and acting? Nah, can't be nothing like that, now can there? Better to blame liberals and Satan; conservatives KNOW these are the main sources of all bad stuff in the known universe. That's why Doug's solutions involve locking 'em up (all odd people, presumably--after all, they're all liberals) and/or blowing them away.

Doug's advice is hilarious; it amounts to "Don't think or act weird, and you won't think or act weird." He's not going to take Dr. Phil's gig away with this approach.

MyOpine
I sent out an email about the article to which you referred us. I got a response back that fluorescent light bulbs are on their way out. Light emitting diodes, "LED's", are replacing them.

hey Lodestar
I also concur your point in another thread. I also picked that TIME magazine to read.

Our country's priorities are really screwed up. The easy gnat sized issues are blown of of proportion, but the citizenry cannot act appropriately against the things that REALLY affect everyone.

When one reads the websites of Concerned Women of America, the Family Research Council or WorldNetDaily, I have to wonder where these people get their information from.
Not from law enforcement agencies or social workers.
So I read and watch and look at the differences in interests and the blame game volleys being shot across each other's bows.

Somedays, using my experience with the Los Angeles Police Dept, or with anti hate advocates...we are shunning allies for emotional grandstanding.
Leftie this versus Rightie that-
Dems this versus Repubs that...
can't we all get along is right?

We have homegrown terrorists, admit more by the millions because of open borders and hog tied discommunicating agencies who are supposed to control it...AND a population that would rather vote against gay citizens as THE public menace number one, instead of compelling our laws to be enforced against illegal aliens who we don't know and don't know where they are.

Gang members and drug dealers and female school teachers who bed their students get less attention than Sunjay's next hair do.

Yes, let's all escape into our televisions and let entertainers tells us what we should be doing, instead of the voices in the wilderness doing it.

I have NO sympathy for Cho, whatever help he could have gotten he wasn't compelled to get and the school couldn't even expel him (what's up with THAT?!),
so we're left to wonder and scratch our heads and wonder how we missed something so predictable exploding after all.

Stay tuned, now that Sujaya has been voted off the American Idol island, there will be other pabalum tv fare to replace him. I'm sure there is school somewhere patting itself on the back that it got rid of the local gay straight alliance club, but failed to catch the kid contemplating suicide for lack of it.

How's that for when young people DO try and find friends and support for all the RIGHT reasons, but the Rebecca Hagelins of the world throw hissies about it?

It's a beautiful day in Los Angeles, hot and dry.
The murder rate increases in the summer with the regularity of brush fires...
I do know which people are dangerous and who aren't.
But I often get shouted down for having been whipped by evil, or some other such mind shriveling.
No, I'm simply someone who has been in the fray and know who our enemies AREN'T as well.

Don't spank me for pointing that out.
Nice to see your posts Lodestar...
later!

Liberty
Looks like we have another simpleton laughing boy.

I do wish TH would card these little children who come here to sass adults.

MyOpine - the Left
We are paying through the nose for gas for the last bad idea Leftist environmentalists had. We had to pay extra for special gasoline and then we found out we were poisoning our water and now we are paying extra to switch it back. Is there no end to what we have to pay so that Leftists can feel superior? Why can't they do what they like and feel superior about it instead of proselytizing the politicians into making the rest of us adopt their lifestyle? Someone on the radio pointed out that bicyclists represent about 2% of the population and yet we are using tax payer dollars to create an infra structure of bike lanes for them in the cities and in the state of California and through pristine environmental areas where speeding bikes represent a hazard to the foxes and coyotes and California quail. And then the yucks have the nerve to graffiti paint wherever they have been with their superior attitudes about how we car people are ruining the environment. And it is not as if they actually commute using their bikes anyway because who wants to sweat their way to work and then stay in the same clothes all day and then sweat their way home?

I wish we could have a giant switch. All Leftists should go to Europe and all people who have seen the folly of the European Left should come to the US.

Cho
Mr. Giles, point will received I would like to add a few supporting comments as follows? Maybe if we out law guns then maybe all the nut burgers would learn to comply and we can all just get along in the infamous words of Rodney the King. Let me see if I can make my self clear. We'll draft a law where the Government will come in and round up all the guns and we burn them in a big fire pit, but yet we can't even round up 11 million illegal lawbreakers and now we are to trust our Government to round up all the millions and billions of guns in America. Right? That sounds like something a tenured professor would teach a bunch of brain dead puppets in higher education. Maybe we should refocus our attention on the next villain of choice Global Awareness. After all we can always trust the highly educated weather prognosticators to give us a pretty good educated guess on tomorrows weather, at least lets be honest about it, they got a 50/50 shot of being right or wrong give or take 24 hours. But far be it from me, I barely made it through high school, so pardon me I must have missed the great debate. How dumb and stupid of me to have not been present. I can only assume they were experts doing the debating right? I wonder how many were actually masters at the debating, just some food for thought. There's always going to be guys like Cho out there in the world. Just like there will always be a Syndrome to name after the mentally deranged minds that produce results like what happened at VT, 911, the Ovens of the late 30s and early 40s. Some times there is only one draconian way to deal with belligerent people and I’m not talking about voluntary rehabilitation. If it’s a Syndrome, for a lack of a better word, I think it would only be prudent to name it after the great Senator from New York. I think "Hillary Syndrome" or "Reverse Hillary Syndrome" would be a more accurate excuse. For you less critical thinkers out there. Hillary Syndrome is that holy moment when you experience a reality check. You suddenly realize if you had known then what you know now you wouldn't have done it? But then there's always the excuse you were duped! Right? What that amounts to my friend is foolishness. On the other hand you could suffer from the opposite Syndrome, that's where you suffer a bipolar moment of pontificating, you knew the guy was a nut burger from the get go but you didn't do anything about it. That's the definition of stupidity. Everybody has excuses even Cho, Osahma, Bush, Nancy even Harry. Everybody has an excuse for why we are where we are. But one thing we all have in common and that's the same dumb down education we all grew up with. Please don’t be so vain as to think I’m against education. I know that God’s people parish for the lack there of. So I’m for education I’m just not for the results that excuse the insane! How could an individual that had resin to the level of Senior English Major be like he was? How could 88 tenured professors hand the hangin rope to Nifong when there was no evidence? How could Oshama justify 911? Why stop there, why did the Japanese boom Pearle Harbor? They all had one thing in common, SUPER STUPID. What are we teaching our young people about our history, what are we teaching our young people about anything? Can I get a witness that can testify to when there has been a time in our history that we all just get along? Don’t go Presidential on me now! If you’re looking for answers my friend put the text book down and pick up a Bible. If the Bible is such an offense and we are so dumb as to date our two eras by the birth and death of one criminal who profoundly changed the world as we all know it. Then just maybe that book has something to say about the content of our character, something that got lost back in a speech from the 60s. If only people would take the courage to put all the theories down and pay attention to something greater than themselves. The great communicators the wisest of our thinkers of all time can be found in the one-recorded document that has stood the test of all time. The Holy Bible. Now isn't that offensive to you free thinkers? And we’ve all been lead to believe God is Dead. Actually that’s true, but what the non-believer fails to grasp is that he rose from the dead. The Glory of God is found in the resurrection not the tombs of foolishness. Cho is where he belongs! Why, because of his character, he was a loner, a bore and self-centered. He had his opportunity and he blew it and 32 others away. You see when rage and hatred becomes your only option out you take as many as you can with you. That’s what happened to Cho and 32 others, what a shame, it almost happened to three white boys in the Carolinas, what a shame, what happened on 911 has not ended yet, now that’s really a shame. Cho was simply defined from the Bible as EVIL. No need to understand it, just avoid it and get saved. Works for me! But then again, who am I, just another uneducated one. Shame on me for not dumbing down.

Idiot's guide to not being a jerk
Hey, what a great title for a book. One of the reasons I became a Christian was to gain control of my inner jerk.

As for the environ-mentalists. I have a work colleague who won't flush the toilet until everyone in his household has been.

And when I said "that's just not right" my born-again atheist friends accused me of destroying the planet.

And I work in the defence industry - and it's full of liberals ...

Mental illness, islamists and liberals
Chos's ranting are alarmingly liberal. His blaming of the great, faceless us is 60's liberalism. Who killed John Kennedy? Why you and me. Lee Harvey Oswald was just a stubborn rumor. That is a joke, Lilly, Oh, Lilly. His blame of hedonism is text taken from the Muslims. I am not for unbridled hedonism but the attainment of appropriate pleasure is part of a happy, balanced life. Cho blames capitalism. Karl Marx, check you e-mails. I have heard many posters present some pretty strong assertions to the effect that mental illness absolves the mentally ill of any responsibility for their actions. Well, to say that mental illness is not touchable by accessing the cognitive processes is just bunk. For the liberal is pleases them to say that anyone's mental issues are manageable by exposure to Christian teaching. But this is borne of a prejudice against Chtistianity, so their thoughts are suspect. Genetics versus environment. They both matter.

Gestell and irony
I find irony in your writing. You criticize Doug Giles for promoting the locking up of the mentally ill. The liberal (insane) position is that confinement (treatment) of the mentally ill is just too cruel. It is also the liberal position that conservatives are resposible for Cho's rampage because the cons do not have the compassion to fund proper mental health care (facililties). Isn't this delicious irony? Positing two principles that are mutually exclusive of the other. Why, it's almost insane.

victims of Marxism (aka liberalism)
Cho was a "useful idiot" of the Marxist pigs. In their effort to oppress all civilians into "peon-ism", they attempt to instill envy in “useful idiots” – envy of anyone more successful than “themselves” (save for Marxist entertainers who (like drugs) play on the emotions of "useful idiots"). Rather than attempting to improve himself as a person, Cho allowed the envy to turn to hate, and planned the murder of students more successful than he. After murdering various students who were more successful than he, he took his own life, ensuring himself that he would indeed experience “global warming” for eternity.

Lilly Livered Liberals You Make Me Laugh

Congratulations, Doug Giles for once again smacking the dipshids - offending their sensibilities and their SACRED intellects.

And the posthumous award for limp-wristed lack of self esteem to our "gunman" is non-pareil.

You tell 'em!
I love your politically incorrect, butt-kicking style in this article. I forwarded it to several of my friends and my son, who is a poli-sci major at George Washington Univ. in DC and runs his own political talk show on campus radio. He'll love this. Hope he mentions it in his show today.

Mental illness vs. Evil
One thing seems to be cropping up here in the argument about mental illness and evil. Those who consider themselves "liberal" do not like the sting on their conscience of defining right and wrong, good and evil. For them it is far easier and "intellectual" to classify evil as mental illness. They are horrified by the notion of absolutes.

replies to sevenheart and Liberty
Just don't pay no nevermind. Nothing's happening to the bees. That's just a lot lilberal cr**; you know how those environmentalists are. Nothing can happen to the bees; God looks after them. However, bees are really good at being communist, so just maybe God has stopped looking after them because, as all conservatives know, He really hates stuff like that! So, if antyhing is happening to the bees, it's got to be the fault of the gay lobby. That's it. Remember. The gay lobby.

Hey, Concerned Dad
"Not being an aging, pot smoking hippie—but a VERY CONCERNED DAD —I think we should be showing young adults how not to be a Cho Seung Hui. "

My goodness, but your smugness is incredible. But that is not the worst of it. (By the way, what in heavens name does Cheryl Crow have to do with this issue?)

Do you think, concerned dad, that wiping mentally
ill people off the planet is an admirable thing
to do. Does it do one thing for preventing
mental illness in others. Does it give hope and
courage to other parents who are dealing with
mentally ill children. Of course, PERHAPS, you
meant that you want to do away with mental illness by finding cures for it. But there is
nothing in the tenor of your column to suggest
that. Death is a perfectly acceptable to you.

Your concern for mental illness is that you don't
like people who have it, or perhaps more to the
point, you hate people who have it. And I strongly suspect you will be raising your children to think in the same way.

This goes way beyond - shame on you, go stand in
the corner. Somebody ought to give you an
intensive course in what it means to be a Christian.

hey
your article is probaly the most stupidest thing i have read in so long. stop being a dam red neck. you ask why everyone hates americans and their mentality? you guys think your so superior to everyone. who the hell does the author think he is?

re lightbulbs and MyOpine
I sent the info on lightbulbs to some liberal friends. They wrote back that the EPA suggests
place the CFL in a sealed plastic bag and dispose the same way you would batteries, oil-based paint and motor oil at your local Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) Collection Site. If your local HHW Collection Site cannot accept CFLs (check Earth911.org to find out), seal the CFL in a plastic bag and place with your regular trash.

They said if you call a Hazardous Waste crew on every oil spot in your driveway they are likely to be happy to give one a bill in the thousands of dollars as well.

It runs out that Snopes.com on Urban Legends has a whole write up on the subject which I recommend people read.
