Can the British Still Call a Cigarette a Fag?

Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

When it comes to unleashing humorous and scathing vocal invectives, Jesus was King of Kings. Yes, the Prince of Peace punk’d people like no other could. Would He have used the word “faggot” in one of His verbal chainsaw massacres upon the political and ecclesiastical morons of His day? Absolutely … not.

No, Christ would not have called some soulless, Aqua Net addicted, duplicitous politician who hires anti-Christ, homely bloggers a fag. That would needlessly offend the homosexual community by comparing them to a skanky politician. Having said that, I have no doubt Christ would have cranked out a cut down on a first century Edwardsian equivalent that would have sawn the boy down to the ground—Dorothy Hamill hair cut and all.

Many don’t see this side of Christ because they’re biblically illiterate. Being dee-tee-dee, they get their cue regarding “what Jesus would do” via the brand spankin’ new, pretty and PCified, 21st century Christ they have created just for their squishy flesh.

We all know this new Jesus. He’s the positive motivation speaker/Savior who says, “howdy doo,” has Mitt Romney-like eternal hair, loves kittens and grins so much his gums are drier than Gandhi’s sandals. In addition, our new Hey-Suess would never say anything to offend anyone; or if he did, it would be about “they and them” but not “you and you.”

If you take the scripture straight (as I do my Johnny Blue) and you get no help from some PC slathered priest and you simply read the Gospels (imagine that!), you will see that our loving, compassionate life giving Savior also skewered His opponents, His friends and a of lot supposed “earnest” seekers like Wolfgang Puck would a small pig.

If you’re a conservative who purports to be a Christian, then you’re to get your behavioral and communication cues from Christ—not some Politician (past or present). And FYI . . . the Lamb of God was no Lamb Chop in word or deed.

Not only did Jesus perform some outrageous and scandalous acts of compassion, but also as stated, He was a verbally vicious warrior when necessary. He wasn’t some squeegee cleaned, wind testing cliché weaver of fuzzy phrases. He said stuff that made people want to kill Him, and y’know . . . if I remember the story correctly, I think they eventually did.

Sweet baby Jesus grew up into a rowdy man who personally attacked people, both in their presence and absence, and being the fun loving Savior that He is, He did His dissecting primarily via exaggeration and caricature. As a matter of fact, His shtick (if the Trinity doesn’t mind me calling it “a shtick,” which they don’t because I’m one of Their favorites), was one of outrageous exaggerations.

As Douglas Wilson points out, in his brilliant book, A Serrated Edge, in regards to communication, Jesus . . .

1. Roamed from mild Horatian irony to His preferred Agent Orange approach.

2. Portrayed incongruities in a blistering humorous light, and it wasn’t because He was a funny man. He was using humor (remember humor?) as a polemical weapon.

3. Applied offensive humor for necessary controversy. His illustrations and attacks were for the express purpose of getting the party started. Things were oh, so boring back then and someone had to shatter a beer mug or two.

4. Didn’t weep all the time when He saw sin and hypocrisy. As a matter of fact, He didn’t weep near as much as many sniveling non-prophets today do. Christ’s usual m.o. was a) whip the culprits or b) ridicule the crap out of them. Make them cartoon boys. Jesus, as Wilson points out, understood that kindness to wolves is hostility to sheep.

5. Made fun of how insincere people prayed and fasted. You wouldn’t fall asleep at His CPAC speech.

6. He used ethnic humor to prove His point. Try that today.

7. Called one nice lady a dog. A dog! A self cleaning, butt sniffing, vomit eating, flea riddled dog. (Snap!)

8. Didn’t engage in smarmy, pipe smoking, “your turn/my turn” arguments most of the time. He simply let fly and then left the room not seeking any extended dialogue with dilatory dimwits.

9. Shotgun blasted those insufferable critics that are never satisfied.

10. Ripped into the Pharisees in the book of Matthew chapter 23, his magnum opus that makes Ann Coulter look like a kitty.

All of the above is from the one whom so love the world that He laid down His life for them.

And don’t even get me started on the words the prophets and apostles used to whittle down the wusses of their day. They popped off with analogies, especially the prophets, not unlike those with which a stevedore would serve up. Most pastors and politicos wouldn’t even touch these passages in public. But men inspired of God did, and they rocked the house. I wonder if you and I could roll with these boys. Selah.

Let me ask the Ann pooh-poohers on the Right a question: What exactly is one allowed to say or not say? Can I say pooh-pooh? What words are verboten? What about phrases? Analogies? What about body parts? Hair? Pot bellies? Tones? Can we have a tone when we talk? Can we roll our eyes? Snicker? Yawn? Can we cough, “bull$#@&” when we hear something ridiculous? Can the British still call a cigarette a fag?

Please, help us endangered brutish beasts of the baser sort to understand the Nancy world of civility that some are sweetly rollerblading into. Also, for clarification, which pundit[s], blogger[s] or radio show host[s] now determines what’s cool and what’s not cool? Will it be a group thing or do you have one Dandy you’re looking to?

I think all the stink that’s been made on the Right regarding Coulter’s joke is simply envious folks trying to get their slice of the Ann power pie. Of course, they’ll never confess that, because envy is the one sin people never like or admit they have.

What is Envy? Envy is, as Thomas Aquinas said, “sorrow at another’s good.” Someone who is centered can watch another person righteously prosper and not hate him or her for it.

Not so with the envious. When the me-monkey sees someone else excel, they are slapped in the face with the reality that they’re getting dogged. Instead of sucking it up and working harder and smarter, they allow their pride to fuel their wounded wittle spirit. This sets the dejected one down a path of disparagement of the prosperous that eventually morphs into the desire to destroy the person who is trumping them.

Look, the way I judge my co-belligerents in the conservative cause is this: can they, in an enlightened and entertaining way, wreak havoc upon the secularists that are attempting to hijack this God blessed nation? I don’t care whether or not they’re my style or if I agree with all that they do. If I’m in a bar fight and I’m getting my butt handed to me, I’m not looking for perfection; I’m looking for a fellow warrior who can cave in the skull of my enemy. And that’s what Ann does. She decimates the Left . . . and for that, I salute her.

So . . . has anybody seen any good movies lately?

Can I get...
an Amen, brother!

I was going to say that Jesus was second only to Shakespeare for his insults but, well, being put down by God, that's gotta hurt.

Can the British Still...
Yeah, in a bar fight, I would want Coulter by my side--rather than Barnett, Hewitt, Medved, or Ham.

It is extremely discouraging that McCain and Guiliani are even in consideration as Republican candidates for the presidential nomination. What problems do conservatives have standing behind Hunter, Tancredo, or Santorum?

To Lynne
I appreciate what you've been through, and I support you 800 per cent.

so does that mean ...
... you've got no problem with the 'N' word? Any number of anti-Semitic phrases? Nah, of course anybody on the left using that language would be dragged over the coals. But since the right doesn't even bother pretending to tolerate gays, they don't have to pretend to be bothered by anti-gay language.

Remember all the vitriol aimed at the left over the Michael Steele-Oreo flap (which turned out to be exaggerated anyway)? The right went nuts with that one. Explain, please, how you can attack that and defend Coulter? I mean, without being an enormous hypocrite.

Missed the Point
I am soooooooo pleased to see that there are still non- koolaid drinking conservatives out there. I thought I was the only one that thought GO ANN GO!!! The real issue was that we saw what suck ups the three top contenders are at the moment. I do not like any of these three wusses. We need Tom Tancredo or someone like him that stirs up our blood. The first person I got to vote for was Ronald Reagan, so I guess I expect more than the average "Best we got" list of losers. Thanks Doug for having the Gullianis that Rudy doesn't seem to have!!

Who is this "Cigarette" guy?
Any man with that kind of name has enough problems without being called a faggot by a famous blogger. "Ette" is a feminine suffix isn't it? Poor guy.

What You Said
Tom, my first presidential vote was for Hubert Humphrey. A few days later, I was ashamed of myself. I flailed myself with a 2 x 4 and immediately registered as a Republican. Whew!! That was close.

Lady, I like your comment. But like so many good comments, the left won't get it. Many of them don't believe Jesus is God. To them it's all mythology.

For my part, I'd like to see words: like; dude; honky; cracker; and gay returned to their original meanings and usage and left there.

I speak English, those are my words, and they should be returned to me---but others are free to use them too.

Cheers.

OMG
I didn't think anybody could be funnier than Ann or Doug, but you girly, you take the cake.

ROTFLMAO

Edwards tried
Edwards tried to bring Jesus into the fray by criticizing all of us for not spending more on the poor.

Perhaps he should take the advise Jesus gave the rich young ruler:" Go, sell all that you have and give it to the poor...and the man went away sad."

Yes taken out of context, but go look it up and get back to me with the correct verses.

Bravo!
Very well stated...WWJD? He would absolutely, positively tell it like it is...

Way to go Mick!
I especially like the refusal to unilaterally disarm. Keep 'em coming.

Great article
Mr. Giles and we right wingers are not going down the PC road no more. Abolish PC and get back to a sane world.

You and Ann Coulter rock!

HalJordan
No, Senator Byrd and friends will probably not be invited to the next CPAC.

I don't recall Coulter shouting. She made a joke that was more than appropriate, regarding "The Breck Girl."

You seem unable to grasp the concept of analogy. The "bar fight" in the current context is a verbal battle against the PC thought police, and the "skinny" Coulter can more than hold her own in that arena.

If you want so badly to use the "f" word, do you think you could make it funny?

Jesus would call you collect.

Largely agree
I think Doug is pretty much on with his WWJD diatribe. Being a "Favorite" is a great outlook and so am I. Jesus always speaks to me calmly and I appreciate that because New Testament descriptions of his demeaner at his return scare hell out of me. Oh ya, I am also a sexist and I think Ann is hot but I do not know if she can cook and I could not put up with her sharp tongue unless she could. S

to hal
Ann p****s you off does she? In a verbal bar fight, I want that "skinny" chick on my side. She, and I , will destroy you, big man. Your vitriol is MY weapon.

1/2 hour news hour
I never saw stuff so good! Rush? Marry me? Ann? If Rush wont, would you? LOL!

Yo,MICK!...
...Tell it like it is,man!!!!!!

the bigmick
Just remember, Kimberly is a Leftie. Lefties get confused by facts.

Christ was not a nice guy
He told the wealthy young man who wanted to find a way to heaven that a rich guy he would enter heaven when a camel passed through the eye of a needle (St. James version; newer translations take some bite out of the retort).
He told the security mongers "Suffer the little children to come unto me"--meaning get out of my way. Even non-Bible (most of the anti-Christians who know nothing of what they speak) readers know he had a temper and overthrew the moneychanging tables in the Temple.
I don't justify Ann's remark because pejoratives of any kind detract and deflect from any issue. Conversely, I taught journalism for thirteen years and have written for newspapers all of my life and can vouch that the beknighted media uses the worst slurs and obscenities anyone can imagine, and I know you can imagine the worst. The n- word is not denied. The f- word has every permutation. For any media person, esp. the lamebrain-stream media, to get all self righteous over someone else' use of language is absurd to the nth degree.
As to Kim, how early do you get up to start blogging up Townhall? Don't you ever work? You obviously don't spend any time actually learning what a controversy is about. Who the hell are you and why are you always reading materail that you disagree with and that never changes your pt. of view no matter what the subject? Take some money out of the bank and take a vacation. You are only huting yourself with high blood pressure and constant stress. Get a life.

Michael Deadhead
I am leaving TownHall, the trouble with Gay writers is that they try to change everyone to their way of life. I will miss TownHall but I just can't become a party to what some are trying to push. Medved is a jerk.

Jesus got sarcastic
"Matthew 11:18-19 18For John came neither eating nor drinking, and they say, “He has a demon”; 19the Son of Man came eating and drinking, and they say, “Look, a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax-collectors and sinners!” Yet wisdom is vindicated by her deeds.’*

In other words, he is pointing out that some people are never satisfied. He also was fond of pointing out how some people stood in church praying out loud "God, thank you for making me such a great guy! I tithe, I help people, I fight your battles -- I'm way better than that schmuck over there!" Meanwhile, the guy he was pointing at was praying quietly, "Lord, be merciful to me, a sinner." Which one, Jesus said pointedly, is the one that's going to have his sins forgiven? When reproved for healing on the Sabbath, Jesus asked the lawyer if, when his ox fell in the ditch, would he leave it there til the sun went down? And if it was okay to save a dumb animal in distress, why was he making a Big Deal out of saving a human being?

Jesus tempered his messasge to his audience, and when he was dealing with smartalecks, he gave them smartaleck in return. That's the way he got his message across. And those listening to him said "Ooh, good one!"

Jesus wasn't a wuss. But language was his servant, not his master.

Ann Coulter
Thank you Doug. You are the first, and only person that I have read the article from, that has anything nice to say about Ann. She has been one of the most hated of all writers and I can only conclude that it is because she makes the people feel uneasy. They should only feel that way, if there is something in her writings or dialog that calls attention to their sins or shortcomings. Personally, I find her most refreshing, after reading all the drivel spouted in the name of being PC correct. Thanks again for supporting Ann. She needs to hear that she is not alone.

Just as in error as those you critisize
While the many "no one can criticize because God loves everyone" people are dead (as in eternal) wrong, you are just as wrong.

Christ did not criticize the people. He criticized their actions.

When a sinner (which we ALL are) repented of their sins, he accepted the person fully. It didn't matter how large we perceive the sin to be or how consistent the sin was in the person's life.
When he knew that the person was not interested in learning the truth or changing their actions, then he let loose on condemning the actions and failure to change (which is also an action).

Being omniscient helps a lot in this area. We have to go by the people's outward signs as to their willingness to change their actions. But we can get major hints by how they lead their lives after they have "changed" rather than listening to their statements that are incongruous with their life.

For HalJordan and others of his ilk
Ann was making a comment about the ridiculous event that happened when Isiah Washington the actor on Scrubs called a fellow actor a f*g while he was angry at that actor for always being on set late and never knowing his lines. The actor he called a f*g is in fact a f*g. In this days, f*gs are proud of being f*gs and don't hide it. So, what is the big deal? It isn't slander if what is said is TRUE. However, to keep his job Isiah had to go to rehab. That wa the ridiculousness Ann was alluding to before she made fun of wussy Edwards who hired hateful anti-Christian bloggers and has been given a pass by the MSM media. So, Hal, get a clue and some context. She wasn't calling Edwards a f*g, she was predicting that she would be slammed for making comments about him. And guess what, she was. Wow. The Truth will Set You Free. It's called facts. Try some some time. Mentioning the KKK is so old hat I wanted to laugh out loud. And P.S. I hate that I had to replace the a in 'that word' with an asterisk to get this to post. George Orwell is turning in his grave.

Kimberly
She doesn't even have a clickable name, where we can go to her (nonexistant) website.

CAN THE BRTISH CALL A CIGARETTE A ***
60 years ago I came to the US from the UK. I was 21 years old, I had spent four years in the British Army and I worked as a carpenter. Construction workers are a rough bunch and talk rough. One particular guy (a w*p) disliked the British, maybe because we kicked the tar out of the Italian Army in North Africa. Who knows? I was the typical 145 pound skinny runt and he took great pleasure in calling me Limey. I wasn't particularly offended by it but then he started on an anglophobic tirade, like, Limies are yellow, Limies can't fight, wasn't for America you would be speaking German. All this as we sat under a huge elm tree eating lunch. I was never a fighter and have not hit a person (even my own children) since I was eleven years old. This man had me by over 75 pounds and I was scared but I said "We will settle it now, OK? He looked at me and said "I don't wanna hurt you." So I got in his face and called him a yellow w*p. Everybody laughed. He worked out the day and never came back. On Friday he sent his wife to pick up his pay. I didn't particularly dislike being called a limey but questioning my courage was a different matter. I still find the word perjorative but I let it go, PC will be the undoing of this proud and great nation. We don't have to worry about Islam, we are rotting from within.

Reality Check
"Christ did not criticize the people. He criticized their actions"

So true. But unfortunately, most people take any criticism, even that of their incidental actions, as being a personal attack.

In literature...
...a f*gg*t was a torch.

Giles rocks, we need more like him.

Marxists are pigs..
The same Marxist pigs claim that it is their "right" not to be "offended" by comments by Ann and/or Doug also claim that it the first amendment (freedom of speech) of the constitution that allows them to make offensive comments towards constitutionalists (aka conservatives).

advice:)
Doug,
since words dont matter, and you are sick of being PC heres what you do-Go to any gay pride parade and yell the F word out. Or Go to the north end of Flint Michigan and call the first person you see the N word. I suggest you take your new and improved, Rambo machine gun carrying jesus 2.0 with you. As well as the very butch Ann Coulter. You will need them both trust me. hehe

Gene
nice touch with the reicht comment, very original, did you come up with that yourself. You do realize that Nazi is short for National Socialist right, and that they were athiest, anti-capitalist left-wingers who believed in Social Darwinism, eugenics, euthenasia, wealth redistribution and gun-control. Come to think of it, sounds a lot like the Democrat party platform.

Ann Coulter
Doug,

thanks for standing up for AND with Ann Coulter. I happen to like her and her opinions on just about everything.

Can the British Still Call a Cigarette a
I'm old enough to remember when "gay" was to be happy and to be a "discriminating gentleman" was a compliment.
If we're going to join the fray of redefining words or adding new ones to the lexicon, here are two:
Homosexuals are actually HETEROPHOBES.
Extreme environmenalists are either PRESERVATIONISTS or FELLOW TRAVELERS OF THE NEOCOMS.
Kent

Can the British Still Call a Cigarette?
The answer to the question, "Can the British still call a cigarette a f*g?" is "Yes, because they are more nigardly about allowing the meanings of words to change to satisfy the delusional ravings of illiterate left-wing idiots." But, you can't call a cigarette one on Town Hall because it has been corrupted too.

Cigarettes
Wonder how long it will be before the Town Hall censors delete the word "cigarette", too.

Fags
All I have to say is Ann Coulter ROCKS!! Jesus did not pull any punches, and neither should conservatives or christains. That is precicely how we got to this point. We must bring the appropriate level of discourse to leftists. Like Ann, when going to a gunfight, bring missles! we have them, what good are they if we do not use them. PC press be damned!

Concord2123
Regarding your reference to the "oreo flap", if I'm remembering correctly it got very, very little coverage in the MSM. As to the right tolerating the "N" word, don't think Coulter or anyone here said the "N" word. Try and stay on task. This is about Coulter's remark.
As for lefties being raked over the coals for anti-semitic remarks, show me where. However, I have seen many, many anti-semetic AND anti-Christian hate posts on liberal sites. Seems the all tolerant, diverse left isn't quite so.

pyangazu
Sounds like your Italian foe ran away. Just like World War II. LOL

Now I get it
Now that I've read a few of you manly Christians, I finally get it about Christianity. How about this summary?

Christianity is rightly understood by conservatives as itself essentially conservative. There can be no such thing as liberal Christianity or liberal Christians. The existence of people who think of themselves as such must be acknowledged at the level of fact, but such "Christians" are wrong and thus not truly Christians. Christianity requires that the social and political order be made as compatible with itself as possible. Accordingly, Christianity cannot properly support "liberation" of various allegedly oppressed groups in society. Thus, Christianity cannot be supportive of "liberation" of any such groups.

Politically speaking, Christianity is the religious branch of conservative Republicanism; it provides transcendental justification for insults and violence directed against all who are designated as enemies. See the actions taken by the founder of Christianity, as documented in today's column for exemplary conduct. Some versions of Christianity assert that the believer in this religion is to live in "imitation of Christ." Somewhere in the New Testament (unbeknownst to liberal religious scholars), it is written that Jesus's advice to his followers was "lock and load."

Christianity generally endorses most of the prejudices and expressions of hatred to be found in societies in which it is the predominant religion. Proof positive of this will be evident in any comments made about this post.

Ann Coulter
Really...All the kids are saying Tjhat's gay."
Now a Fresno kid gets suspended for the day for saying it....all of this political correctnessis maddening..STOP IT. How cna 2% of the population drive so much of our lives....

Is that blue like in Johnny Walker Blue? You have " 'spensive tastes, Ricky:)" or is htat politically incorerct to say now also.

Can a British still call a cigarette ...
Amen, Doug, you are right on. In our study group today we were commenting on some of Jesus' stinging remarks and how angry the Pharisees became. Yes, enough to plot to kill him. And it still goes on.

For a great blog post on Coulter,

HalJordan, I think you picked
the wrong moniker; you should've picked Oliver Queen.

What has Jesus got to do with An Coulter
Ann Coulter's recent remark was not a remark that stemmed from the Christian doctrine such as "Love thy neighbor as Thy self:. I don't understand how you Good Christian poeple on the radical extreme right can show so much hatred towards people who happen to think differently than you.

I think that if Jesus came back to earth today you extreme Christians would crucify him again for his liberal view that "The Meek shall inherit the Earth"
and "Do onto others as you would have them do onto you"

gestell
You don't get it.

Cigarettes are "f*gs"?
But Giles I thought married men were the f*gs.

And what about the the gay people that were at the event? Are they f*gs? Do YOU also have a picture of you cuddling "Major Rod" floating out there, Giles?

If so, then don't hide behind Coulter like a baby and hope that she can fight your battles for you.

interpretation of the bible
The bible has been written by humans therefore it reflects the paths that humanity and each one of us can choose: peace or violence. You advocate the latter.

So what's wrong with being a faggot
My younger cousin told me years ago, that his son was complaining about being a faggot. Not only was he complaining, so too, were several of his class mates who were also faggots.

My only comment to my cousin was that they would eventually grow out of the situation. I was right. Once these boys passed on to the senior forms of the British public school they were attending, they no longer had to be faggots. In fact they were in the enviable position of calling on the boys in the lower forms to do their fetching and carrying which is what faggots, or fags for short, are supposed to do---at least in British Public (read private) schools.

bob3443

celtnik
And for good measure the Nazis were pro vegetarian and anti-smoking.

Ann Coultier The New Jesus?
Comparing Annie to Jesus is like comparing Cheney to Mother Theresa - Jeezee Doug have you no shame????

Still hanging around, Gestell?
You haven't changed your line much.

Neither have I!

GOD BLESS AMERICA.

Argue with that.

wow
What can be sweeter then creating God in your own image? Yes, that is exactly what Doug has done. Here, he has portrayed Jesus just as he sees himself. That way, he can remain the hateful individual he’s always been and not come into conflict with religion. Here’s just one of many good questions for a literalist. Where’s your beard?

Free Speech is a right
Personally, I don't care what Ann Coulter says.
She's free to express her views however. In any event, I got the joke. It's true, John Edwards is a exactly that. He's a wus.

As to Christ: Now there was one tough cookie. He once told one of his diciples: "What's that to you..." He sure messed with Peter's mind when he asked Peter three times if Peter loved Him. Looked like payback for denying Christ three times???? Sense of humor? I think so.

And calling men who could kill you "hypocrates and "white washed sepulchers filled with dead men's bones", was rather gutsy.

No, Christ was no modern-day lib religious type.

The pansies exist in the modern day Church. The church that Christ founded is built on the rock of ages not the styrofoam of feel-good liberal churchism that pervades our society today.

Christ would have fired the Rev Dr Feelgood and his/her "church-of-what's-happening-now" for being the liberal, tu-tu-wearing wussies that Christ was not.

Jesus Christ isn't Lord and King for nothing. He took the hit for us all, and lived a gutsy, courageous, life for all to see.

I bow to His greatness and majesty. And I spit on the Rev Feelgood and his/her apostate, liberal church.

Any good movies you ask?
Yeah Doug. Check out "Friday Fight Night" on the History Channel. "Shootout" and "Dog Fights" are a great series. I love real stories of American courage under fire...

I also recommend Barbarians II. Those people knew how to fight a war to win. None of this pin-prick, drop-a-bomb-on-a-baby-bottle-factory crap for them!!!!

Answer to the title question
Yes, as Brit slang DOES NOT have to be pol-corr in North America!

A better question is whether I can translate jargon using Brit rather than Yank English.

(an example of that is with a common six-letter profanity which in US means "angry" and in UK means "drunk").

To the big mick.
Wordy, perhaps. But worth it? No doubt.

Word definition?
concord2123 writes: "...Nah, of course anybody on the left using that language would be dragged over the coals."

Perhaps you have forgotten Robert Byrd? Or Trent Lott vs. Christopher Dodd and the MSM comments and reaction?

"But since the right doesn't even bother pretending to tolerate gays, they don't have to pretend to be bothered by anti-gay language.""

concord's main problem is with his perceived definition of the terms being used especially the word "tolerate". This seems to be a very large problem with many people on the left. They redefine words then expect everyone to accede to their new definition in all cases without any concept of context or actual definition. We see this same problem occurring with other words like niggardly. This problem occurs when there is filter malfunction in the receiver of a communication, especially with the PC, liberal filter in common use by those on the left.

Coulter and self-promotion
I have to hand it to the lady. She is truly gifted in this way. Would she have garnered a fraction of the publicity she received without gratuituously insulting a presidental candidate? I do not approve of those methods, nor do I see anything particularly "Christian" in them.

Yes, Jesus used strong language in dealing with his opponents. Yes, he called a spade a spade. But IS Mr. Edwards in FACT a "f****t"? NO. So she not only distorted the truth; she "slandered."

As for being in a bar-room brawl image conjured up by Mr. Giles? Yes, I like allies, but NOT allies who will hit ME with friendly fire for self-promotion and attention.

Regarding Mr. Giles' conclusion that criticism of Coulter from the right is based on "envy"... How can he KNOW? But in so declaring, he is presuming that he knows the motives of ALL those who genuinely find Coulter to occasionally cross that line which differentiates between what is fair game and what is not. And of course, cutting off the actual debate which HE started. Clever tactic, but unfair.

IF the "wreaking havoc" thingy actually worked, I might in fact be somewhat more supportive. But I cant see it. It certainly doesnt persuade others to one's viewpoint which is the whole purpose to debate in the first place, I would have thought. All it does is makes Conservatives look like the crazed fanatics so often caricatured by the MSM.

With Mr. Giles' portrait of Christ above, I have no argument, as far as it goes. And I sympathise with a theme which runs through many of his articles regarding the "masculinity" of Jesus - often lost in the " milk and water" approach he criticises.

However! When what is partially true is somehow conveyed as if it was the WHOLE, then that partial truth itself becomes a distortion.

I refer to Doug as a hateful individual not only because he himself expresses a wide list of people and things he hates, but because he has expressed how much he would enjoy killing people he doesn’t like. Note carefully that he was not talking about self defense, but making preemptive strikes. He claims he doesn’t just arbitrarily gun down undesirables only because he would go to prison.

As for Doug’s character, his columns illustrate it pretty completely. In this case, for example. I think name calling is wrong and he thinks its right. The entire premise of this column is that Jesus behaves like Ann Coulter and Himself would call someone a f*g even though he knows (being Christ) that the individual isn’t.

As for the accuracy of Doug’s portrayal of Jesus, I find that he focuses on some select incidents instead of trying to grasp the overall picture of Jesus as a man. This has to be done by considering all the things the He is reported to have said and done as well as the things he didn’t do that were within his capabilities. Doug compounds the situation by being a strict literalist. That will always lead to problems unless you have an original copy. Otherwise, accuracy can only be surmised through the study of several of the oldest texts availably.

It is very tempting and all too easy to see your own reflection when interpreting Christ. I too wrestle with that. But, by your own reasoning, the person who makes the most definitive statements runs the risk of making the greatest error. Here again we have Doug.

I respect that you have spent years in contemplation, but so have I. You probably know that very little in life can be taken at face value. Therefore, it is unwise to apply it to theology. It is Doug himself that claims to be a literalist.

I don’t hate Doug. I don’t ask you to reject Doug. I don’t care what Ann says or writes. Heck, I don’t even ask people to get out of the boat. When I disagree with a commentator, I say as much. Instead of pooping your pants with capital letters, refute me by showing how Doug’s vision of Christ is accurate. Show me why you think Jesus was the kind of guy who used bad language, beat people up and what else does Doug say; smash beer mugs and shotgun blast insufferable critics.

"As to Kim, how early do you get up to start blogging up Townhall? Don't you ever work?"

You haven't figured it out? She is a paid political blogger employed by the Democrat party.

Give her credit for persistence in the line of fire, and volunteering to be the canary in the mine. How else could you tolerate reading stuff you disagree with every day, spouting the silly party line they give you, getting continually clobbered, especially when you slip up and turn to the wrong page of the canned response notebook and post one that's not relevant to the discussion?

She's one tough babe - anybody remember the children's sand-loaded punching clown? Pops right back up. I think she spent years in a department store complaint window to qualify for the job, or maybe in the TGV ticket window at DeGaulle airport. Don't knock her unless you could the job.

Besides, we need her here. Don't tell the Dems when she posts the wrong blog - you have no idea how many conversions she's made to conservatism. Tell them to give her a raise and get more like her.

Say, Kim, Happy Birthday and many more the next time it comes!

You're welcome.

Actually, I have long come to the conclusion that "Kimberly" is a TownHALL plant who posts to stimulate otherwise slow days....! And the same guys/gals fall for it every time!

Hmmmm
Well if Anne C. can use the "faggot" word, and she wasnt refering to a cigarette. Then we should be able to use the other british words also

Like T-W-A-T, C-U-N-T....all common words used over there in daily language.

In britian they refer to a gay or homo as a poof or poofter.

She is just a silly little t-w-a-t. Cherrio Chaps

Funny how these words are censored on this site but faggot isnt..... where dose n-i-g-g-e-r sit?

Yep censored....

So, verbivore, what is it exactly that I don't get? Don't you like my characterization of conservatism and Christianity? Then say so.

As for thebigmick:

I don't claim Jesus was a "liberationist" (whatever you think that means) at all. My church (one of those awful mainstream moral bottom-feeding denominations) teaches that Jesus brings salvation through God's grace. I think that's a liberating message, all right, but I'm allowed to think that because I'm one of those liberal Christians (or as you would put it, so-called Christians). I've noticed that you conservatives are absolutely sure who is saved and who is not--and that list corresponds to your political preferences.

As for petitio principi, here's yours: "if your unwarranted assumption is that Homosexuals are an oppressed group," Here we have you denying what I might (although you didn't note that I did not do this in my post) assert. In the absence of your explanation of what you would or would not consider evidence in support of either your view or mine, your comment means zip.

Shall I include Rev. Fred Phelps's website for your enlightenment, or do you already have it bookmarked?

Good movies...
Doug, you asked if there are any good movies out there. In fact, I saw one that I think is right up your alley. "300" is probably one of the best action flicks that I think I've ever seen. Not only has it got a bunch of great action sequences, but the central theme of standing against tyranny, of prefering to die on your feet rather than live on your knees, is a belief that I for one adhere to. If there is an IMAX theater showing this movie in your area, it is well worth it to check it out.

It seems that all our responses to HalJordan are hanging in mid-air--because someone had decided to remove the original post by HalJordan.

HalJordan was wrong-headed, but it was not as if he had posted anything obscene.

My comments, in particular, make no sense whatsoever, without reference to HalJordan's original assertions. Disappearing posts are the most frustrating aspect of expressing myself on TH. Talk about Orwell spinning in his grave... All the stuff that disappears down the "memory hole."

I would like to see TH remove the "Flag as Offensive" option from these boards. It is thoroughly abused. Removal of obscene language posts is the job of a moderator--not to be delegated to the whims of agenda-driven, partisan posters--who feel no shame in deleting any post that does not accord with their narrow reality tunnel.

What are your thoughts on the matter?

I hope you get the chance to read this post, before some Einstein flags it as offensive.

Gestell
Gestell: "I've noticed that you conservatives are absolutely sure who is saved and who is not--and that list corresponds to your political preferences."

Again, one of those awful and false generalizations you tend to make about "conservatives." Why am I not surprised..?

reply to JimmyJoe
I'm calling them as I see them on TH. I've NEVER come across a post from a conservative Christian that even allows for the possibility that people could be genuine Christians but not conservatives. So, I infer that conservative Christians are in full possession of the complete truth about Christianity, and that only conservatives need apply. So, yes, I'm generalizing, but I haven't seen anything to suggest to me that my generalization is "awful and false." So, to you I say, check out the posts when a TH columnist deals with religious subjects. You'll see soon enough that I'm on to something here.

Go Jesus!!
What a wonderful column!
