Poll
Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

WASHINGTON -- The White House had been working for months to talk Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan into running for President Obama's former Senate seat to keep it from falling into Republican hands.

Madigan is popular, has high voter-approval poll results, and was seen as the strongest Democrat who could hold the seat. But in an unexpected blow to the White House's political recruiting efforts, she turned down the president's request and decided to run instead for re-election to her present job.

Within hours of her decision Wednesday, Republican Rep. Mark Kirk saw his chance and sent out word that he was running for the seat now held by Democratic Sen. Roland Burris, who recently announced he will not seek election to a full term. Appointed to fill Obama's seat by disgraced Gov. Rod Blagojevich, Burris has been the target of a Senate ethics committee inquiry into whether he offered any quid pro quo in exchange for his appointment. This all happened before Blagojevich was impeached and removed from his office on charges that he sought to sell the seat to the highest bidder.

Until now, no one thought the Republicans had a chance to win the Senate seat in heavily Democratic Illinois, especially in the present climate when the GOP's brand has been badly damaged. But Kirk may be the one candidate who can pull it off in a state where widespread state corruption has badly damaged the Democrats' brand even more.

The youthful five-term congressman represents the Democratic-leaning 10th congressional district that Obama carried last year by 61 percent, but Kirk's cross-party appeal has kept it in the GOP column against all comers.

He is a prodigious fundraiser, too, raising more than $580,000 in the second quarter, amassing a total of $1.1 million.

"Kirk is a very strong statewide candidate for Republicans. This is an easier race for them now that Madigan is not running," said Jennifer Duffy, senior elections analyst at the Cook Political Report.

But other Democrats were expected to run for the seat next year no matter what Burris decided, promising a potentially divisive party primary fight that could further weaken their party's chances of holding on to the seat. State Treasurer Alexi Giannoulias has already announced that he is running, and businessman Chris Kennedy was also expected to enter the race.

Madigan's decision to forgo the Senate contest was not only a major disappointment to the White House but a personal blow to White House's chief of staff, Rahm Emanuel, a former congressman from Chicago who has also become Obama's chief candidate recruiter.

Madigan, a top Democratic vote-getter in the state, was called to the White House last month where she met with Obama, Emanuel and senior adviser Valerie Jarrett in what insiders say was a full-court press to draft her for the race.

This has not been an especially good month for Obama and his White House team to demonstrate their political firepower. So far they have failed to get their way in three key battleground Senate races.

New York Rep. Carolyn Maloney ignored their political pleas against challenging Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand for the party's nomination in next year's contest to fill Hillary Clinton's seat. None other than former President Bill Clinton is headlining a gala fundraiser for Maloney on July 20, despite the White House's heavy efforts to consolidate the party establishment behind Gillibrand.

Then Pennsylvania Rep. Joe Sestak dissed the White House efforts to keep him from running against Sen. Arlen Specter, the recent Democratic convert whom Obama and Gov. Ed Rendell have embraced.

And now Madigan has flatly turned down Obama's request to take his old Senate seat.

Meantime, while the Illinois Senate race has suddenly become a more competitive contest with Madigan out and Kirk in, a number of questions "need to be answered" before its direction becomes clear, Duffy told me.

"Does Kirk get a competitive primary? Can Democrats avoid a bruising primary?" she said.

"One thing to remember is that Illinois has a very early filing deadline, the first week in November, and an early primary in March. This means that Democrats might be less concerned with the fallout from a primary, and more with making sure that a viable general-election candidate emerges from that contest," she added.

But as things stand now, Kirk's candidacy may in the end benefit from what is turning into a perfect Democratic storm that has badly damaged their state party's credibility. Blagojevich has been impeached and is facing a corruption trial. His former chief of staff has pleaded guilty to having a hand in the scheme to sell Obama's Senate seat. Burris has been an embarrassment to the state.

Sounds like Illinois Republicans may be borrowing one of Obama's old campaign lines next year: "It's time for a change."

Mark Kirk
Voted for the Cap and Trade Bill. And he wants a 25 year minimum sentence for marijuana dealers.

The first is against what Republicans stand for and the second is going against the tide.

If he is the R candidate I'm sitting that one out.

simon
there may be a growing trend agasinst falp ears and his agenda.

Others have written that the dims in particular have been blindly foll owing flap ears because the msm proclaims he is more popular than sliced bread.

But now that his numbers are in serious decline it is just possible that congress critters who put their ambition ahead of party loyalty may desert flap ears to stay in dc.

While I don't know anything about kirk, he may have voted to reflect the wishes of his district.

The best we can hope for is that any repub candidate running in 2010 takes the p ledge to not only oppose flap ears socialism but to roll back everything the fool has done to this country

Here in az many of us are hoping we will get a serious candidate to oppose mcshame and send that rino into retirement

Mark Kirk
I agree, If Mark Kirk is the Republican candidate for senate I'm out!
He is not a conservative and does not support conservative positions.

THE OBAMANATION
IT LOOK LIKE THE HISTORIC MARKER OF THE OBAMANATION WILL HAVE VERY LITTLE FOOT PRINTS IN AMERICAN HISTORY. UNLESS BETWEEN NOW AND THE EARLY 2010 PRIMARIES PRESIDENT OBAMA ADMINISTRATION WILL BE TAKING SOME EARLY LICKS, IT LOOK LIKE CARTER CLAN SEPARATING WHICH LED TO KENNEDY CHALLENGING THE SITTING PRESIDENT. NOT ONLY IS THE LOSING OF THE SEAT HE ONCE HELD LOOK POSSIBLE BUT THE LOSING OF THE SEAT ONCE HELD BY HILLARY CLINTON AND THE SEAT CURRENTLT HELD BY NEW DEMOCRAT SPECTER

Recruitment Concerns ?

Why are Conservatives concerned and commenting on Obama's recruitment efforts when over the last month you've lost 3 potential candidates for Potus 2012.

-Ensign -Done
-Sanford -Done
-Palin -Done, whether you admit it or not.

You are so worried about what's going on in the house to your left that you can not see that your own house is being boarded up and condemned..

you spend much to much time on dialog and attempts to bringing down the other side with inflated trivia and fiery rhetoric dispersal. It is way past time for you to rebuild your own --- starting by finding a credible leader that's not a college dropout radio host who gets paid $38million/year just to keep the fires in your bellies.

Where are the GOP Rebuild and Revitalization Efforts on Townhall ?

Sky Pete
Why do liberals like yourself even care what Republicans do? And you're suggesting we take advice from you? Hardly. Save your breath.

Mark Kirk:
Even though I live in an adjacent state, I don’t follow illinois politics all that closely. I do like to visit Arlington Park on occasion, but gasoline costing around 20¢ a gallon more in the land of Lincoln keeps those visits to a minimum. That Mark Kirk “represents the Democratic-leaning 10th congressional district that Obama carried last year by 61 percent” tells me all I need to know about the man. He’s a rino in a donkey costume. While I will never, ever vote for a member of the party that gave us obumassiah and his pack of commie thieves, I will also never, ever vote for a non-democrat who supports any portion of the obumarrhoid agenda. The RNC and the Missouri Republican Party better pay attention. I am a pro-Constitution, pro-life, pro-NRA independent fiscal conservative who has been labeled a terrorist by both the governor of my state and homeland security. I vote. Don’t offer me a ‘lesser of two evils’. I’m not buying that garbage anymore. I’m Gill O’Teen and don’t tread on me!

Kirk
I am a conservative and am glad he will run for a office that I can get a chance to vote no on this rino. Voting yes for cap and tax is voting millions of Americans out of work. He also co-sponsored the hate crimes bill with John Conyers (D-Michigan). He needs to be purged. get out and vote.

Mark Kirk is a RINO
Kirk claimed on his web site that he read the entire 1,200+ pages of the Crap-and-Tax bill, then voted for it anyway.
No honest (or intelligent) Republican or conservative would have voted for this bill, which effectively nationalizes the energy sector and hurts the Americans who can least afford huge hikes in energy-related prices.
Kirk is typitcal of the politicians in Illinois: indistinguishable in their ideology, cynically craven about doing whatever it takes, and interested only in self.
Won't vote for him.

The Recipe for Republican Victory!
If you want a seriously GREAT read, that is funny, poignant, yet satirical against Democrats and liberals, the read The BIG Black Lie. http://theblacksphere.net/site/my-book/ http://www.amazon.com/BIG-Black-Lie-Learned-Democrat/dp/06 1530222X The author is the black Ann Coulter, and his book is a blueprint for how conservatives will win the next elections!

Ohio is producing bad numbers for
King Elect O.

56% do not approve or more gov't debt or spending.

Ohio is a battleground state where ACORN is under investigation for registering 200,000 fraudulent or criminal voter registrations.

You guessed it. Big O *won* Ohio by 200,000 votes.

Perhaps the worm turns.

Go to tea parties on July 17th to protest your Cong. reps and Sens. support of Obamacare at their local offices.

Kirk is from Big O's state
of Illinois.

You cannot imagine how he was strong-armed by our magic N*gro.

But he should be thoroughly roasted for his vote for cap and trade, to remind he is a REPUBLICAN, who is against BIG gov't and FOR private business and economic growth.

Still, do not turn down a strong Rep. candidate because he isn't a perfect cons. That's how we got King Elect O as president. VOTE for a viable alternative, as cons. by themselves cannot elect major wins.

renny,
sorry. We did not get King Elect O as president because john mccoin was a strong republi-con candidate. Remember, he considered his greatest accomplishment in the sin-ut to be his work with the likes of bridge jumper kennedy, assured one of his concerned supporters that obumassiah is a good man or something like that, voted for the first budget buster bill that was the only remedy for our ill economy and to do so he suspended his campaign, and throughout his losing campaign flat out refused to fight like a man and ignored many of the issues it was his duty as a candidate for the highest elected office in the world to address simply because he was afraid that he would be labeled a racist. Earth to johnny. It’s not racist to speak the truth. It’s racist to ignore the truth. mccoin is just another rino dressed like a burro. Hopefully the good people of Arizona will fire him for his part in trashing our country. I’m Gill O’Teen and don’t tread on me!

Please !
To all voters in Illinois! Have mercy on the rest of the country for once. First you send us the "Great Separator" in 1860 and now the "Great Delapidator" in 2009.
I know there have to be some good people from Illinois for I have met some of them, but they can't seem to get in office. Please try and come up with a Conservative who loves the Constitution and will have our country at heart and I will try to help elect a governor who want cheat on his wife.

Mr. Lambro, visit southern Illinois.
You'll find a few districts that were not carried by BHO by 61%. Even in Kirk's own district the double jeopardy part of "hate crimes legislation" is not terribly popular.

If 61% of his constituents are lefty-libs his vote for a long sentence for marijuana dealers won't be that inspiring.

Fred Barnes was touting him several months ago, but despite Kirk's prodigious fundraising prowess, some of us Republicans are going to support someone else ... ANYONE else.

I live in Illinois and...
let me tell you something, Kirk is a first class RINO. He voted for "Cap and Trade". One of eight "Republicans" to do so. If you want to compare him to anyone, try Colin Powell or George Ryan. Ryan switched parties for politically advantageous reasons. Colin Powell endorsed Barack Obama. Kirk sold out industry and the people. You think I want that man to represent me? Who is the Third Party Candidate?
Give me a Conservative. The Dems and Reps have screwed it all up. Besides, ANYTHING from the State of ILLINOIS is not worth having in office.
And I meant "anything".

re: Real Fear!!!
The real problem in this GOP come back is to cleanse itself of the rif-raf like turncoats and the like, but I will tell you this if anyone voted to the Cap&Tax bill then this is what you call another idiot trying to get into the assylum!!! The people that are presently running our gov. (this is both sides) are out of control and out of touch with the American people!!! Polls don't mean squat to these clowns and they have lost the meaning of "Gov. for the people by the People!!" I say there needs to be a term limit and also a referendum vote for anyone who can't seem to represent the people in the Const. way!!! Vote, people Vote!!!!

Looks like fewer passengers
are buying tickets for the train to h*ll.

Does it really matter anymore?
Republicans want compromisers, not a Sarah Palin. Democrats want to win for life!
Gone are the "good old days" when one of the party could bring in good leaders. Now, it is no longer Red or Blue states; there aren't Elephants or Donkeys anymore either. There are Purple states (rapidly turning Blue form massive illegal immigrants)and hybrid of Elephonkeys for leaders, comprised of sell-outs to Big Business!
Welcome to the New world Order!

Yes, it matters
The Rep. Congress under Clinton practically balanced the budget and produced one of the rare surpluses of the 20th C.

Reps. did not create Freddie Mac, Fannie Mae, the CRAs, or lead Wall Street into a meltdown.

Nearly ALL the Wall Street *leaders* were Dems.

AIG’s Joseph Cassano donated exclusively to Democrats.

Countrywide’s Angelo Mozillo is a Democrat who gave sweetheart loan deals to Democratic Senator Chris Dodd (CT), chair of Senate Banking Committee, and Democratic Senator Kent Conrad (ND) chair of the Senate Budget Committee, and a Barack Hussein Obama campaign aid, Jim Johnson, left his position for being a “friend of Angelo.”

Fannie Mae ‘s (created by President Johnson and Democrats to help low-income debtors buy houses) Frank Raines is a Democrat who received $20,000,000 in bonuses alone from Fannie Mae and then moved on the be an economic adviser to Barack Hussein Obama’s campaign.

Fannie Mae’s Daniel Mudd, a Republican appointee in 2005 to replace Frank Raines, claimed in a video in 2005 that Democrats were his “family,” especially Barack Obama.

Bear Stearn’s Jim Cramer is/was a life-long Democrat.

Both political parties’ representatives of this century did too much to damage American Financial institutions over a long period of time, but people should know Dems. contributed the much more over 60 decades.

One election of finding themselves out of work and I think the pseudo-Republican RINOs change their tune!

It's about time that the liberal, compromising Republicans find that the true conservative voters will not vote for them. And, if they cchange their skins once they're in office, then they will find themselves having had a record short career!

'Nuff Said?

Renny from twenty
Actually the congress under Bill Clinton did balance the 'budget', but not without a little subterfuge.

In order to balance the "General Fund", monies were transferred from the Social Security "fund" into the General Fund, (just like you would at your local ATM machine). That had the effect of giving the impression of 'balancing' the "General Fund", which is the fund that is reported! The Social Security Fund is kept "off-line", and nobody is any the wiser!

As an accountant who is worked in a 'fund account' situation, I know. (Besides, the truth of the matter was given away by the MSM in such a manner that it intended to go over the average person's head.

Obama is SCAR!
I had the opportunity to watch THE LION KING the other day.

And while it clearly can be a allegory for many of life's lessons and struggles, it is CERTAINLY an allegory for Obama's AmeriKa!

Obama is NOT the Lion King - either Mustafa or Simba - but he IS - quite obvioulsy - SCAR - the FRAUDULENT LEADER OF THE PRIDE LAND.

And CLEARLY - the Hyennas - one of whom was voiced over by that LIBERAL DIM WIT - WHOOPEE (cushion) GOLDBERG - were obviously OBAMA supporters - especially his ACORN supporters.

But the most symbolic connection that the movie had to Obama's AmeriKa was the desolation and destruction of the PRIDE LAND by SCAR - the FAKE kings's POLICIES!

The PRIDE LAND under SCAR - like AmeriKa under Obama began to decay into a barren, desolate, inhabitable wasteland!

If you get a chance to watch the LION KING any time soon, watch it as if SCAR is OBAMA and the PRIDE LAND is AmeriKa under Obama.

It is a PERFECT allegory.

You Ain't Seen Nothing, Yet
The center piece of Obama's agenda (Cap and Trade and Universal Health Care) promise to damage both Congressional Dems and Obama's reputation. Already, the continued very large loss of jobs is beginning to tarnish Obama's aura of Cool. Finally, voters are waking up to the fact that the President's huge subsidized spending spree has benefitted mainly well connected Democrats.

With the realization that whatever recovery does come by will produce no jobs, and Wall St CEO this week admitting that even at 8100, Wall St stocks are still over-priced, the President will be very hard pressed to get his 2 pet agenda items through the Senate. And even if he does get them passed, the Democrats will find themselves in an eerily similar position as they were in 1994. Already, many Dems in the House and Senate look towards November 2010 with fear.

It will all come down to jobs. If a decent recovery is not in place by Spring of 2010, a Democratic trainwreck is in order. But how can nationalizing Health Care (costs to taxpayers $1.6 billion and rationing to boot), and a massive tax on consumers via upfront and hidden costs of cap and trade aid in job creation? Well, they don't. Moderate Dems like Evan Bayh have been yeeling out the warnings since March. Obama's only accomplishment to date is doling out $800 billion to connected Wall Street investors, and another $780 billion to Democratic lobbyists?

Housing prices continue to slide downward as record home foreclosures do not abate. Consumer also continue to walk away from over $3 trillion in credit card debt. Now, with the threat of massive new regulations and taxes, many CEOs look to move thier enterprises to India and China. If the Dems cannot see things clearly, well maybe 10 to 11 million unemployed by Sept of 2010 will.

Obama stands the chance of doing for his party what Hoover did for the GOP in 1929-1932. The GOP was out in the wilderness for 2 generations.

Obama's Plan? Destruction of The Economy
Ignore Obama's Words and Policies!!
And, today, it was announced that Obama is going to start Targeting Small Businesses to give Stimulus Money to. Wonder what that's all about? Well, if you just read this article, you know.

Obama and the Libs in Congress want to get their Tentacles into Small Businesses by giving them Stimulus Money, and of course, with all the Federal Strings Attached. The Strings designed to Strangle Them Out of Business.

The absolute and complete destruction of America's Foundations is what Obama is up to and he must be stopped.

It is time for a massive letter writing and phone calling campaign to forewarn all the members of Congress that their Days Are Numbered in Office should they continue to allow this Steamrolling Destruction of Our Economy and the American Way of Life.

As for me, I am going to continue to Go Against Obama and his policies and be as politically incorrect as is possible every opportunity that I get. I refuse to Live in Fear from Obama or of any of his policies. If enough Americans would just stand up and Tell Them that Enough is Enough, they would get the message.

No to Kirk
I tried to email him about his vote on CAP and TAX.
He doesn't accept emails from out of district. I am a life long Republican and I will not vote for him. My husband and I spent 22 years in the Army and lived many place (here and overseas) and Illinios is the most corrupt place we have lived. It is interesting reading about the corruption in Chicago, at the sametime the MSM is falling all over Obama. Never investigating his background or questioning where we are headed as a country. As far as I am concerned Kirk is no better than other Chicago (and surrounding areas) politicians.
