White House Sends Mixed Messages

Was the Copenhagen Global Warming Summit Walk-Out a Win for the U.S.?

WASHINGTON -- The Obama administration's latest lame excuse for its failed stimulus-spending plan is that it underestimated the severity of the recession.

"We misread how bad the economy was," Vice President Joseph Biden said Sunday on ABC's "This Week."

The White House has been coming up with a lot of half-baked reasons why the president's massive $800 billion plan has not made a dent in the mushrooming unemployment rate, but this one was a beaut.

Misread? Throughout his presidential campaign and the early months of his presidency, Obama repeatedly compared the recession to the Great Depression when one-third of the workforce was unemployed. Even his economic advisers have since said that such a comparison to a decade-long depression is preposterous. But Obama kept comparing it to the worst economic catastrophe in modern American history -- if anything, exaggerating the recession, not underestimating it.

Biden, speaking for the administration, said it was unfair to say that the stimulus has been a failure, because "no one anticipated, no one expected that the recovery package would in fact be in a position at this point of having distributed the bulk of the money."

But not too long ago, the White House was predicting that the stimulus plan would soon be creating or preserving (which no one can verify with any accuracy) hundreds of thousands of jobs.

Then, when polls began showing increased public doubts that the plan was working, the administration said that it would begin "ramping up" the snail's-pace stimulus spending over the next 100 days.

Now Biden is saying that the plan is going to take more time than anticipated because so many of the contracts for construction and other public-works projects have only recently been completed or were still in the pipeline.

Critics of spending-stimulus programs warned of such delays last year when Obama was selling his idea to the nation, and later when it was about to be sent Congress. Even the Congressional Budget Office, the nonpartisan auditing arm of Congress, projected that the lion's share of the money would not be spent until 2010 when many economists said the recession would be over.

If doubts about Obama's spending scheme were growing last month, they were mushrooming last week when the U.S. Commerce Department reported that nearly a half-million jobs were lost in June -- pushing the unemployment rate to a 26-year high of 9.5 percent. Workers saw their weekly wages fall, too, as forecasters said the jobless rate would likely exceed 10 percent before year's end. Construction spending fell, as did consumer confidence.

Indeed, even administration officials are saying unemployment will get a lot worse before it gets better. "The unemployment rate will likely be higher in 2010 than in 2009," said Jared Bernstein, the vice president's chief economist and economic policy adviser.

The latest numbers not only rattled the White House but Democrats on Capitol Hill, too, including those who had a hand in crafting the deeply flawed stimulus bill, and there was talk of revising the plan and expanding it.

Senate Banking Committee Chairman Chris Dodd admitted last week that the big spending bill was not working the way Democrats hoped it would. If things grow worse, Congress might have to re-examine the plan and "do it again," he said.

"One of the mistakes that were made as we go about it ... we did not get these dollars into the job-producing sectors, a lot of it wasn't targeted as it should have been," Dodd told reporters.

But in a case of mixed messages, while Biden was still pleading to give the stimulus plan more time to work, the White House said last week that the package should be judged on its merits now.

When NBC's Chuck Todd asked presidential press secretary Robert Gibbs, "When should we judge the stimulus package, whether it's working or not?" Gibbs replied, "I think we should judge it, we should begin to judge it now."

Despite what Democratic critics were saying in Congress, Gibbs was singing a different tune. "The stimulus is working. The stimulus plan is injecting money into the economy. The stimulus plan has obligated $160 billion to deal with the dip in the amount of growth."

But "obligated" is not the same as spending, and it does not mean the money has made its way into the economy's bloodstream. In fact, less than half that amount has been spent. And even if it had been spent, this is a paltry sum that would not make even a ripple in the once-mighty $14 trillion economy.

The administration seems to be divorced from economic reality. This plan is not going to create jobs.

When Obama proposed his plan, he said it must be "timely, temporary and targeted," but it is none of these. The bulk of the money will be spent when it's too late, it will not go to where jobs are needed, and it will saddle a weakened economy with another trillion dollars in debt.

Now the administration wants the American people to believe that it did not fully comprehend how bad things really were.

Understanding the Obama Czars

Trying to understand anything by the definition of Liberal words, (especially those of Barack Obama) is futile and only leads to confusion of anyone trying to discern what is actually meant.

ObamaSpeak is quite similar to the terms introduced by George Orwell in the dystopian classic "1984", 'DoubleThink' and 'NewSpeak'.

The Orwellian term 'DoubleThink' in simple terms is tightly coupled to 'Cognitive Dissonance', where a person holds two diametrically opposed views of reality as one view, i.e. "War is Peace", "Freedom is Slavery".

The Orwellian term 'NewSpeak' in simple terms, was designed to replace and reduce the concepts of e.g. objectivity and rationalism into one term - 'OldThink'.

The ObamaSpeak term 'Czar', has little if anything to do with the original meaning of the word 'Czar', which meant the 'Supreme Ruler' of a Country, specifically Russia.

The ObamaSpeak term 'Czar' cannot be understood by definition and must be understood by function.

The German Socialist term 'Führerprinzip' and its intended function, reveals the intended purpose of the ObamaCzar.

This approach is basically a 'Hierarchical' structure where someone is appointed directly and has the sole responsibility of oversight of a particular function i.e. 'Energy', with little interaction with others except for the one who made the appointment.

This effectively bypasses Congress or other oversight and leaves decision making in the hands of the appointer.

If and when California is bailed out, Barack Obama will appoint a Czar of California to oversee the 'Investment' for the "American People" and thus acquire control of the eighth largest economy in the World and bypass the California Government and its citizens.

This introduces another German Socialist term 'Ausnahmezustand' or in simple terms, governing by Crises, manufactured or because of current conditions.

What is the function of Ausnahmezustand?

Remember when Barack Obama's 'Chief of Staff' Rahm Emmanuel said, "We can't let a crisis go to waste".

Barack Obama used the word 'CRISIS' 25 times in his speech about signing the 'Obama Stimulus Fiasco', where most who voted for the Bill had NOT even read the Bill.

The 'First Step' in Socialism, take control of financial systems and devalue the currency by taxation, borrowing, spending and printing worthless money.

Critical thinkers realized the first clue that something was really wrong about Barack Obama, was when he rushed through his economic plan because of the crisis and then borrowed huge amounts of money (to reduce debt?) and now is sitting on most of that money.

Crisis after Crisis are now bubbling to the top across America, from the State of California to Cities like Detroit Michigan.

Meanwhile Barack Obama is focusing everyones attention on 'Free Health Insurance' that will cost the Taxpayers Trillions of dollars.

The Obama Administration has withheld irrigation water to the most fertile 100,000 square miles of food producers in the World, in California, causing even more unemployment and financial stress and soon massive food shortages.

Ausnahmezustand in simple terms, is the Necessity of declaring 'Martial Law', which "Temporarily" suspends existing rights, rules and regulations in order to deal with the "Crisis".

"We cannot continue to rely only on our military in order to achieve the national security objectives we've set," he said. "We've got to have a civilian national security force that's just as powerful, just as strong, just as well funded."
Barack Obama Speech July 2, 2008 Colorado Springs CO

This statement debunks any notion that Ausnahmezustand wasn't part of the Obama agenda long before election.

Obama is patient and will wait until the crisis is such that people will want 'Martial Law' and him as the Decision Maker.

The Worst Kind of Lynch Mob

The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Tuesday shows that 33% of the nation's voters now Strongly Approve of the way that Barack Obama is performing his role as President. Thirty-six percent (36%) Strongly Disapprove giving Obama a Presidential Approval Index rating of –3. Those figures reflect the highest level of strong disapproval measured to date and the lowest level recorded for the overall Approval Index.

As "The Michael Jackson Diversion" fades out with his finally being laid to rest, the media will eventually have to move on to the next great diversionary tactic to avoid the fate that awaits them and that is increasingly nipping at their heals.

The disaster waiting in the wings is one resulting from their collusion in the fairy tale elevation of another icon whose rise to fame and glory is destined to result in an equally tragic and ignominious fall from grace.

The disasterous and damaging presidency of Barack Hussein Obama; a man who, much in the manner of Michael Jackson, is an empty shell...a caricature...and as President, a man who is equally bereft of any sense of reality.

The worst and most dangerous kind of lynch mob is the one made up of those whose adulation and idolatry of an individual, turns to hatred and hurt feelings at being taken in by him before having their dreams and fantasies dashed upon finding out the truth that he is neither their hero nor is he honorable in his having deceived them.

The media has a stake in creating diversions...they will be seen as equally corrupt for having participated in that deception.

And the mob of liberals, once they decide to take up their pitchforks and torches, will be coming for them too.

Obama reaps what he sows.

Candidate Obama spent a lot of time "talking down" the economy. Now he has to deal with the economy he helped create. So far it doesn't look like hes up to the challenge.

To claim he inherited an economy he helped create while in the Senate does not work with independant voters.

His solutions will lead to run-a-way inflation, exporting of jobs, and adversion to risk.

The next President is going to have a tough time fixing the damage.

Ronald Reagan and the American people had to endure 3 years of tough times before the Economy got re-started again.

Lying again of course
Mr.Obama made a huge mistake. He thought he could manipulate the economy with his words--talk it down to provide the necessary cover to pass "emergency" legislation, then thought he could talk it back up again so it would look like the dems spending spree was to credit.
Didn't work.
He scared off the people really needed to fix the economy: investors and employers.

He owns this mess.

Capt...The Stimulus Needs Stimulating
What a crock! This black conservative blogger predicted Obama would come back for more of Mama's milk! http://www.theblacksphere.net one of the BEST blogs on the internet!

The plan
I don't think there is any mixed message here. The Plan is a series of political payoffs to Obama supporters and it is clearly and unabashedly and transparently so.

No Excuse
If they really didn't understand the problem, they shouldn't have been "preaching" like they did. My personal take is they were intending to "lie" just as the Clinton Parrots like George Stephanopolous and James Carvill cried
"the Worst Economy In 50 Years when the unemployment rate was 6%. No one seems to think that people who lie to you during the campaign do so bcause they are "liars" and will
"lie when in office" No, they are always "surprised"!!!!!!!!

This is economics 101

Everyone knows you can't tax and spend your way to prosperity.

Everyone except Liberals.

You never fail, do ya kevin?
It;s enjoyable to see there's one constant in all these threads . . . YOU! Welcome Kevin.

same as clinton
Clinton raised taxes because "he didn't realize the economy was this bad !" same play as 1993, hopefully we'll get the same election results as 1994.

The people are starting to figure it out. Obama's just providing payoff to his supporters as any seasoned chicago hack does- he's the Black Blago- just not as crude or obvious.
