Was the Copenhagen Global Warming Summit Walk-Out a Win for the U.S.?

WASHINGTON -- President Obama's domestic agenda is losing steam in an increasingly contentious Democratic Congress amid growing public doubts about the veracity of raising taxes in a deep recession.

The economy remains sick. The stimulus plan isn't working. Investment capital, the lifeblood of a vigorous economy, is still on strike. More than 40 House Democrats voted against his energy tax bill, which barely passed by a seven-vote margin, and now faces huge obstacles in the Senate. His healthcare plan is on shaky ground. His promise not to tax middle class workers is in shreds, and massive deficits are piling up as fears mount that the economy may face months, if not years, of anemic growth.

The White House fashions new, defensive arguments weekly on behalf of Obama's stimulus. The latest argument coming out of the president's economic advisers is that they never actually expected the stimulus bill to trigger growth this early in the year. It's going to take a lot longer to show results, they now say.

The Gross Domestic Product, the measurement of all the goods and Services the economy produces, shrank at an annual rate of more than 5 percent in the first quarter. It is expected to shrink further in the second quarter but at a slower pace.

Americans are not spending, they're saving. The savings rate jumped to 6.9 percent in May, a 15-year high, while spending barely budged by 0.3 percent. "As the first half of '09 ends, investors are growing more anxious about whether the economy can bounce back later this year," AP reported last week.

Holding the economy back is unprecedented borrowing and a raft of higher taxes that Obama intends to impose on the country -- from energy taxes that will increase the cost of everything we buy to healthcare taxes to pay for the president's grandiose national health insurance plan.

None other than billionaire financier Warren Buffett spoke out disapprovingly last week about the Democrats' so-called "cap-and-trade" energy plan, calling it a "huge tax" and "fairly regressive" one that all of us will pay -- hitting low-to-middle income people the hardest. From turning on your light switch, to heating or cooling your home, to all the products we purchase and consume -- no one will be spared.

That makes a mockery of Obama's campaign promise that taxpayers who earn less than $250,000 would not see "any form of tax increase, not your income tax, not your payroll tax, not your capital gains taxes, not any of your taxes." That's why David Axelrod, Obama's senior adviser, avoided any mention Sunday of the president's campaign tax pledge on ABC's "This Week." Indeed, he pointedly would not rule out taxing employer/employee health insurance premiums that are now fully tax-deductible -- an idea that is being increasingly pushed by Democrats as the only way to finance his $2 trillion healthcare scheme.

Some Democrats say that would be the kiss of death for health care this year, but Obama may be willing to agree to it if it's the only way to get his plan through Congress, say policy insiders. Notably, the president does not want to engage in "drawing lines in the sand" beyond which he will not go in setting higher taxes, Axelrod said.

The president is willing to consider "a lot of different formulations" to finance his healthcare plan, he added. In other words, he's keeping his tax options open.

Therein lies the rub, With this year's budget deficit likely to surpass $2 trillion before Obama even begins to pay for his health, energy and other domestic initiatives, he's going to need a lot of tax revenue to pay for the costliest domestic spending legislative wish list in American history.

And, one way or another, it's going to come out of the paychecks of America's working class. But the White House may be in deep denial about Obama's agenda and its legislative prospects.

"It's getting harder and harder to see how they are going to pass these sweeping overhaul bills in Congress," veteran healthcare analyst Grace-Marie Turner at the Galen Institute told me.

"The pay-fors just aren't realistic and the left is going to balk if they don't get a public plan and universal coverage. And they can't pay for that," she said.

Other tax changes are in the works that business executives say will be job killers if they are passed this year as Obama is proposing. One of them is his plan to outlaw or restrict roughly $190 billion in tax breaks that allow businesses to defer paying tax rates up to 35 percent on foreign profits invested overseas to expand markets.

"It makes U.S. jobs more expensive," Microsoft Corporation CEO Steve Ballmer told Bloomberg Financial News last month.

If Obama's anti-business initiative is enacted, Ballmer said, "We're better off taking lots of people and moving them out of the U.S. as opposed to keeping them inside the U.S."

Politically speaking, all of this may be reaching critical mass. Obama's popular support has eroded a little in recent months, though its still high.

But support for his agenda has decidedly fallen well below his approval ratings, which means it's in for rougher sledding in the months to come.

You are right
This is completely true. Jobs lost, higher taxes, and no defensible reasons for it by Obama and his administration.

Obama's catch phrase
"Make no mistake about it..." and then he proceeds to ramble on about whatever he is pushing for the day. The liberals bashed Bush and the Republicans for their irresponsible spending and rightly so. But now that Obama has quadrupled the deficit in one year it suddenly is alright.

Stimulus hoax
Yes, even Warren Buffet is against cap and trade. And this is the same Warren Buffet that Obama consulted before and after the election regarding the economy. So why isn't Obama now heeding what Buffet is saying? Because it goes against Obama's agenda.

Two weeks ago in the Sunday Omaha World Herald Buffet stated that he did not see the economy getting any better this year, that in fact he thought it would get worse and that it would maybe level off in 2010. He also stated the next 5 years did not look much better.

Don't you just love how the WH likes to spin things? They didn't think the stimulus bill "would trigger growth this year". That is an outright lie. Obama was on TV two Tuesday nights in a row addressing the nation and stating that by the summer we would see great strides in the economy as construction would be in full swing. After all, the stimulus bill was touted as the "infrastructure bill" and jobs would be created. They have to keep back tracking on what they said before all to save face and keep him in office.

Sun comes up, Obama lies
The punk in chief and the puppet-masters pulling his strings are criminals singularly focused on the destruction of our country. If he is not stopped, and soon this nation will be on its knees. Congress - representatives of the people? I think not. Need a complete purge of this self-absorbed, out of touch band of fools. Revolution is at hand.

Wait a minute...
The MSM is telling us that the economy is doing great! They cite the number of jobs created and that spending is up. You don't suppose that the MSM would actually downright lie to us do you? What a surprise that would be.

The whole Ozbama administration is one of teleprompters, promises that cannot possibly be kept, and "green screen" projectors. You know...where they have a news reporter standing in what looks like the streets of Bagdad, but he's really in a studio in New York, or how Hollywood depicts Spiderman swinging from skyscraper to skyscraper on his spider webs. If you cut the switch off, the "green screen" images disappear and the real world is revealed. It's like when Dorothy's dog Todo pulled back the curtains on the Wizard of Oz and revealed the fake that he was.

What truly disappoints me is that so many so-called intelligent people have bought into the "green screen" Utopia that Obama projects to the public. Some day, hopefully sooner than later, someone will pull the plug and the nightmare of American style Soviet/Marxist Socialism will be revealed to everyone, not just to we conservatives.

Plunder the Rich Before Collasping The
economy.

This appears to be the plan of our Marxist president. It appears that our dangerous, extremist, subversive president Barack Hussein Obama is plundering America's wealth, knowing that he will force the economy to collapse.

It also appears that he plans to encourage this to the point of chaos, hoping to complete democrats slow coup of the Constitution.

What else is new?
Obama is a lost child, being paraded about by communists. America better read bloggers like http://www.theblacksphere.net, and buy his book, since he give Republicans the recipe for winning! And he's HYSTERICAL!

When unemploy. was 4.36 and thr DOW
was 15000, the MSM was stuffed with the homeless (who had vanished since Reagan) and job losses overseas (the horrors of outsourcing) and desperate college students earning double degrees because they were unemployable.

Now, with a near 10% national unemployment rate (12% in WA) and TX the only state not in recession, Katie Cutesy and Stephopollutus are full of 100's of 1000s of jobs *saved* (GM's?--they soon won't be when 100,000 dealer employees are laid off) and created (all gov't--more automatic Dem. voters).

I'm sure the Marxists want us to get used to the European-style ec. where in Fr. and Ger. a 12-15% unemployment rate is no biggie. Here, it would throw more people on welfare and Medicaid and that's what the King O admin. wants: more people on state rolls.

The only good thing is even Bernake and Paulson say there's no more money for any more *stimuli.* All good things come an end.

Bork Sotomayor.

Breaking Promises
How long will people keep supporting this big earred lying idiot from Kenya. He has broken every promise he made during his run for the white house. Not much of a surprise since all his promises were smoke and mirrors in the first place. HE IS A CON MAN PEOPLE!!! If you cannot see this you should take some night classes, read more, stay away from the main stream media, GET SOME EDUCATION!!!!

moving poeple overseas
Mr Ballmer is being politically correct and somewhat inaccurate. Multi-national companies rarely move significant numbers of people overseas. What they move is a handful of executives and the jobs, not the people. The Americans lose the jobs, the local workers at the new foreign location get the jobs. That will be the impact of this new direction. Foreign workers will prosper.

Commonalties?
What do Hugo Chavez, Daniel Ortega, the Castro brothers, Mel Zelala, Kim Jung Il, and Barak Obama have in common?

Yes, the obvious answer is; big-fat-liers (that's a given), but I was going for a more important and dangerous answer...they are all egomaniacs seeking ultimate power over their hapless people.

Not a "line". A moat.
"Notably, the president does not want to engage in "drawing lines in the sand" beyond which he will not go in setting higher taxes, Axelrod said."

"That makes a mockery of Obama's campaign promise that taxpayers who earn less than $250,000 would not see "any form of tax increase, not your income tax, not your payroll tax, not your capital gains taxes, not any of your taxes."

Obama and Axelrod drew a line in the sand: $250K. Not just a "line", but a moat.

They are liars.

STOP THEM
Everytime there is a spark of recovery, these creeps pass some legislation or give a speech to stifle the progress and cause people to lose jobs. This guy will only be compared to Hitler instead of former American presidents.

gettingoldernwiser
the lefties don't get it nor does the msm.

They are so wrapped up in their adulation for their messiah and savior, the fraud posing as president they can't see he is a committed leftist determined to destroy america.

For him and other's of his ilk, america is viewed as the enemy of mankind and the one country that stand's in the way of a universal socialist nirvana

But what flap ears does show is that his 20 plus years under the tutelage of the haters wright, farrakhan and ayers and others has convinced him the only way he can save america is to destroy it.

He fully buys into victimhood and seeks to punish those he believed achieved success at the excpense of others.

But cap and trade has nothing to do with the globull warming scam. It is only about giving flap ears and his cronies more power to regulate the lives of average americans as well as give them $trillions in new revenue to implement their socialism

Congressional dims want to see america fullky ounder the control of one party and are betting that by cooperating with flap ears they can destroy the republica n party or reduce it to total insignificance.

The countries hope at this point is to convince congress to block further erosion of our freedoms and in 2010 take back congress from the dims and put an end to flap ears and his socialismby withholding all funding for his plans

Otherwise we are looking at a very bleak future and the end to america as we know it

poor meathead from az,
you're such a fool,do you really believe giving this country back to the ppl that almost destroyed it is such a wise thing to do??.......we had eight yrs of gop rule and it ruined this country and yet you make it sound like we had a coup to make President Obama president....meathead your full of hate i can hear it in your every word.....get a life - better yet get a job stop being such a hater to a president who is only trying to help the ppl...the gop had their turn and failed. they use fear and rob the american ppl....now you are so concerned about spending and everything else that President Obama does....i have one question for you meathead what was spending like under the gop control and did govt get smaller or bigger under the gop control??????what you dont realize is you are blinded by hate... all the gop sing about today they had a chance to do and they didn't, yet you want to believe the gop is going to save america.....come on meathead grow up...

It Will Be More Costly
I do not know exactly how much Obama Care will cost, but one thing I am certain of, it will cost more with each passing year. The reason is simple. It does not address the reason medical cost are rising and that is medical inflation. Whatever the insurance cost will be today, will cost more only because of inflation. And since medical inflation is greater then overall inflation that cost will increase at a faster rate than the overall inflation rate.

lloyd the loser
obviously another leftist troll who has no understanding of basic economics.

So tell us bright boy how does a $2 trillion deficit benefit this country.

Flap ears scared the country telling them that without his $900 billion porkzilla quickly followed by the $400 billion supplemental would keep unemployment below 9%

Now the unemployment is at 9.4% and soon to reach 10% which even you hero flap ears admits to.

Economists talk of any recovery taking years with growing unemployment. And flap ears is talking about a second porkzilla.

So tell me bright boy how does growing the deficit and passing this disaster to be paid off by children and grandchildren and great grandchildren justify this spending.

But then I doubt you understand this or even care.

All you know is that flap ears the clown is the bright light in your failed life

You are probably amongst those who ridiculed bush and like flap ears blamed bush when he ran a $200 billion deficit. Obviously you lack the understanding to see the difference between $200 billion and $2 trillion.

But even after piglosi and corrupt land deal reid took over congress with the promise of no new spending without cuts in other programs, they still grew the deficit by $700 billion.

Or don't you understand that all spending bills come from congress

As for meatheads, that term describes you, an idiot who blindly follows flap ears and his plan to destroy america and implement the socialism that losers like yoiu think is an improvement over our republic where people have long made their own choices and not left their lives to be run by gov't dictates

lloyd the loser 2
while cities and states are cutting back on jobs due to the slowing economy and states dealing with diminishing budgets the feds under flap ears have increased fed employees by close to 100,000 new hires.

So exactly why did the feds need this sudden increase in gov't employees

But for fools like you gov't under the dims can do no wrong.

And despite flap ears proving daily he is totally ignorant of history, economics and america's roles in defending democracies. fool like you see him doing do wrong

Strange how the supreme court and the legislature of honduras acted against a chavez clone who wanted to make himself dictator.

And what does flap ears do, he sides with leftist dictators chavez and the castros. So much for flap ears standing for democracy and the will of the people

But then flap ears also sided with the killings mullahs in iran rather tha n with the people in the streets over there protesting voter fraud.

But then flap ears can't see voter fraud anywhere especially when it occurs in countries run by dictators, or by his own acorn supporters.

So tell us bright boy why has flap ears given acorn with charges of voter fraud be rewarded with $8 billion from the tax payers.

And despite clear voter intimidation in philadelphia why have the dims closed the case.

Flap ears promises everything about his administration would be transparent but like all his lies, he will continue to betray america and reward his supporters with tax dollars

lloyd the loser
so tell us bright boy since you claim the repubs did destructive things to the cou ntry for 8 years why not provide examples.

And since the dims controlled congress for bushes last two years, why didn't they correct what you claim bush destroyed.

You have never once provided a single example of where or why the country is worse off because of bush.

But just to help you out. Bush was a poor steward of the treasury and did allow the repubs to grow the deficit. And he passed a drug bill that will end up costing many billions.

But by comparison these are still small numbers compared to what your hero flap ears has in store for america when he destroys the economy

"More than a Friend!"
That was a very revealing statement made by Obama to the gay gathering he held at the White House. I swear the guy hugging him looked like he could hardly keep from french kissing him.

So, outside of a gay-loving, democracy-hating, America-blaming, chaos-making, media-sucking, dictator-hugging, race-baiting, lying son a gun, what have we got? Brilloquence? Just a squeaky clean steel wool scrubbing pad that will take the outer layer of skin off ya'. if you don't watch out.

I dislike Obama and now I completely distrust him after his siding with the would-be dictator Zeyala against the Honduran's standing up for their democracy. It IS as bad as we thought it was. WE are not crazy!!!

Those dots are getting bigger AND closer together!

barbara
what part of the state are you in and if near phoenix are you coming to gilbert for the tea party

Deficit Spending & Barack Obama.
The Bush Administration ran up a $2.752 trillion deficit over an 8-year period that included 7 years of war in Iraq and Afghanistan; the economic downturn after 9-11; the addition of a prescription drug benefit to Medicare; a massive increase in federal education spending under No Child Left Behind; and the current recession and 2008 Wall Street bailout.

THe Obama Administration beat that record in its first 38 days, running up $2.867 trillion in red ink. It's not that liberals hate deficits, they just dislike going into the hole for the 'wrong' things.

They hated paying for the war in Iraq; after all, it went against principle to spend money to free 30 million people from the oppressive control of a dictator.

However; $2 trillion for health care! A small price to pay in order to purchase cradle to grave control over the entire US population. Once it passes; liberals will tell us who can and cannot be born, who can and cannot receive medical care, what everyone can and cannot eat & drink, what does (smoking) and does not (gay sex) constitute risky medical behavior, and who lives and who dies, and when.

Chains we can believe in!

I live near Hereford in extreme southern Arizona. We had a Tea Party on April 15th, but as far as I can see no one is planning anything here for the 4th. Thanks. I hope your Tea Party will be a big and exciting success! I wish that there was more that we could do. We must never let ourselves be bamboozled again.

I voted for McCain, but before he lost I saw that he didn't have the most savvy machine behind him or the fire in the belly pushing him to win. Maybe even secretly he didn't want to win and was sucked into the "I'm too old" vortex. I don't know. I did like Sarah Palin. The "swells" as Dennis Miller called them, made fun of her and were merciless in scourging her over nothing. Dirty Dog Democrats!! I will not forget what they have done and what they continue to do to this day. They have a lot to be ashamed of, If you ask me. And some of the Republicans have fallen into shadow by turn-coating and rolling over like wimps.

I have not given up on my country and I will keep the light of freedom burning in my own heart. No one can snuff it out!! Not Obama-- not anyone!! God bless America-- the greatest country on the face of the earth!

Keysian economics doesn't work,
hasn't worked, and never will work. Milton Friedman and Arthur Laffer explained how good monetary policy and supply-side economics does work -- and it worked very well after Carter was thrown out of office.

So, Obama may be surprised that the stimulus didn't work -- and he may say, give it a little more time -- but we've now traded the "8 years of the failed Bush policies" (according to the Democrats)-- and what we've gotten are the 100 years of the failed Marxist-Leninist-Keysian policies the have been proven to never work.

Change change change ... but change for the worse is what we got.

Throw the bums out.
