Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

WASHINGTON -- President Obama, known for his soaring oratory, has been having a hard time finding the right words to respond to the Iranians' struggle for political change and freedom in a repressive society.

The reason: He has so much invested in his let-us-sit-down-and-settle-our-differences diplomatic approach to Iran that it has all but turned into a "see no evil, hear no evil" policy toward that nation.

The headline in the Washington Post late last week seemed to capture Obama's inability to fully respond to the massive protests in the wake of Iran's apparently rigged elections that have disenfranchised millions of Iranians. It read: "U.S. Struggling for Right Response to Iran," with a subhead that said, "Obama Seeks Way to Acknowledge Protesters Without Alienating Ayatollah." One week after the Iranian elections, Obama and other administration officials were still engaged in opaque verbal gymnastics to avoid offending the Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Iran's supreme leader, while all but dismissing what has become -- let's face it -- the denial of basic human rights.

At the beginning of last week, Vice President Joe Biden responded weakly for the White House, saying the administration was taking a "wait and see" position. Then, even as the protests mounted into a sea of anger, the administration still seemed incapable of identifying with the pro-democracy demonstrators.

By Tuesday, Obama was stuck in the same benign position of his earlier statements that this was a dispute that was "ultimately for the Iranian people to decide."

But there was no direct sympathy for the Iranian people, who believed that opposition leader Mir Hossein Mousavi had been denied the election by President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's government -- only this generic bromide: "But I stand strongly with the universal principle that people's voices should be heard and not suppressed," Obama said.

"A reporter shouted a question about whether he stood with the people of Iran, but Mr. Obama had already turned and left the stage," White House correspondent Jon Ward reported in The Washington Times.

Everyone in the room got the point.

As thousands of demonstrators packed the streets of Tehran to protest the election amid wide charges of vote fraud, the pictures of repression and state retaliation were flashed around the world. Basij paramilitary gangs, allied with the Iranian regime, were seen beating and harassing protesters. As many as eight or more were shot by government security forces. Others were rounded up and jailed.

Eventually, the communication networks were shut down by the government, and the foreign and Iranian press were barred by the Ministry of Islamic Guidance from covering, recording or photographing the street protests. Earlier, there was an attempt to shut down access to Web sites such as Facebook and Twitter.

But the White House wasn't budging from its pro-engagement position toward Iran's militant regime. Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton summed up that position by midweek: "We are obviously waiting to see the outcome of the internal Iranian processes, but our intent is to pursue whatever opportunities might exist in the future with Iran."

The silence toward the Iranian people's plight was deafening. Arizona Sen. John McCain charged that Obama's administration needs to speak more forcefully about Iran's election mess.

But Obama turned even more dismissive of the Iranian voters who believed the election, and their struggle for basic democratic rights, has been stolen from them by an autocratic government.

"Although there is amazing ferment taking place in Iran, the difference between Ahmadinejad and Mousavi in terms of their actual positions may not be as great as has been advertised," Obama told CNBC last Tuesday.

McCain, in an interview on CNN cited by the Washington Post, said he was "frankly incredulous" by Obama's statement.

"To say there's not a bit of difference between the two candidates is beside the point. The Iranian people, obviously, think there's some difference, or tens or hundreds of thousands of them wouldn't be in the streets," he said. Even more to the point, these disgruntled Iranians believed -- I think with much justification -- that Ahmadinejad's re-election by an alleged two-to-one margin is total fiction. Millions of paper ballots could not possibly have been counted in a matter of hours, as the government alleged. More disturbing were reports of opposition candidates who lost the vote within their own communities where they were most popular.

Apparently, even Supreme Leader Khamenei now thinks fraud may have been committed. He had declared Ahmadinejad the victor right after the election but backed away from that and ordered an investigation by the Guardian Council, a panel of senior Islamic clergy and jurists, that could lead to a partial or even full recount.

Mousavi supporters do not trust the council, which is allied with the government. They want an independent commission to conduct an inquiry, and Mousavi has called for a new election.

Meantime, the Obama administration has some explaining to do about its callous dismissal of the human-rights issues that have been raised by all of this. The Iranian people have taken to the streets to demand their rights to a free and honest election, but his administration's position seems to be that getting along with the Khamenei/Ahmadinejad regime is a lot more important than a few million lost votes.

Silence heard around the world
What does the silence of President Obama show other countries whose watching how President Obama addresses what is going on in Iran. In all of President Obama speeches he has made sure to tell the world it's not his fault, he blames Bush for everything and apologizes for this country, but he doesn't know how to take a stand because he's always passing the buck. There's no path of least resistance for President Obama to take, so what does he do. Makes another speech talking about a robust debate. Is this what the world wanted to hear just in case they were in the position Iran is in. Thanks a lot President Obama for showing the world this country is still promoting free societies and free elections with your silence.

Try TENS OF MILLIONS of lost votes
What can Obama care, don't you realize he ripped off Hillary in the primary, and his acorn minions were slamming donald duck and mickey mouse ballots home for their lying suckhead dictator.
Obama is steeped in election guilt of an intensely personal nature, so he's on the theifs side over there as well - I mean get a clue - the two criminal regimes match perfectly.
Obama cannot open his blabberhole in defense of what he personally didn't do here - he's one flabby faced crimitard election theif sucking the backside of another in thug comraderie.
Screw the piece of crap, you'll never be able to count on a crimelord.

teleprompters can't make up for a lack
courage! Hey Jimmy, err Barack, your limitations are showing.....

Obama and cronies
Obama cannot come out for the protesters because he and the democraps are trying the very same type power grab in this country. They are nationalizing all the financial markets, the automotive businesses, The banking industry, and now it seems, all busnesses in the country with every day. Right now they are going for the medical industry. What is next?

Oh, Cap And Trade. The energy industry. They want to drive gas prices up so high that it will be impossible to buy gas for a work commute longer than a mile from home. And then they will say, you dont need a car for that. Ride a bike. Yea, my wife of 40 years is going to ride a bike 30 miles one way to her job...right...oh I forgot. She couldnt afford that kind of commute once Obama and crew have their way. It would cost her her entire paycheck just to pay for gas for the commute. Good thing we live on a farm. We can always harness up a horse or two or maybe a couple of our goats or sheep and use them to go to town.

Naa...Obambi wont support anyone wanting their rights because he is determined to take away all of outs the same way. And if he comes out for the protestors, what does he say when the inevitable protests of his administration start here in the US.

It should be no surprise that Obama
is unsympathetic to the rights of Iranian individuals. After all, his philosophy has been known all along -- he believes in the greater good of society, not in the rights of individuals. In his pin-head mind, he believes that individual rights are a hinderence to a good orderly society. He is a Marxist communist and how more people don't see it is way beyond me. He may as well wear a sandwhich board declaring that his religion is communism, because every action he has taken so far reflects that fact.

If he doesn't do something very soon to fix our financial system, specifically, our mortgage finance system, we won't have to worry about money anyway. He keeps printing more and more money and has made bailouts the cure-all de jour.

If an when an economic recovery does occur, it won't be because of anything King Barry has done. His HighandMightyness hasn't a clue about how capitalism works, in fact, to him, the very word is like sunshine to a vampire.

If the outcomes weren't so serious, this whole administration would make a great Saturday Night Live skit, but damn it, I'm tired of this sham government killing the best country in the world and replacing it with the evil darkness of neighborhood block captains, overregulaltion, suppression of thought and speech, affirmative action, equality of outcome, and the absence of economic opportunities for everyone.

A very typically Muslim reaction
The Prevaricator-In-Chief won't criticize a Muslim religious decision. Ever notice that Muslims don't speak out against anything that a religious leader says or does? I've been told there is some proscription against this. As there is a Supreme Leader in Iran who is an Ayatollah, Obama will never speak against him. Watch.

I think that it is always interesting look at what Obama DOES and ignore what he says. When I reference him as at him as being a foreign-born Muslim, not American, his actions become more predicable.

Stolen/jiggered elections
are Obama's and the dhimmicrats stock in trade - why would he say anything?

Joe Blow Biden was absolutely right about one thing; "Obama would be tested." Little did we know it would be on an almost daily basis and our own "supreme leader" has shown himself to be sorely lacking.

What could anyone with a brain expect from someone with no experience, accomplishments or basic grounding in the fundamentals of the USA. He isn't the Manchurian candidate - he is the Indonesion (Muslim) President.

I wonder is BHO actually thought he could get away with voting "present" after becoming POTUS? Probably - he is so arrogant he thinks his poo doesn't stink, and still far too many of us are standing by while he craps in our cornflakes.

Obama the Coward
Great article and insightful posts here. I agree that Obama is pulling a similar power grab here, and that Obama is unwilling to stand up to a Muslim religious leader (due to his own beliefs and background). He is also a coward who uses smarmy words -- when he can no longer avoid action -- to mask the violations of his henchmen.

Time to stand up
Like the iranians in the streets it is time to take back our country. I hope they can really achieve their goal for freedom, not like here where we have gone backward and have the worst criminal in the world sitting in the WH with all his criminal cronies. Liars and thieves that is what they are. Time to take them down. This time make sure your vote counts.

Remember the Carter years
As usual when challenged to make a decision, any decision, Obama has responded with a forceful and resounding vote of 'Present'. It's time to resurrect that timeless phrase from the Carter years: More mush from the wimp.

Time to take back our country
Appleblossom,

I agree. AND it just might be easier than we think. We need to stop buying Chinese goods. Chinese money, which buys our debt, is what powers the "community organizer" (Chicago Black Mafia Crime boss) who now sits in the White House.

If we don't buy Chinese goods, Obama can't sell our debt. Without that cash, he can't nationalize any more industry. Voila.

We the people are still in control. Let's use it.
BTW
I also plan to boycott ABC, their affiliates at ESPN, and all of their advertisers if they do not give equal air time to those opposed to nationalized health care.

THE BUSH DOCTRINE LIVES
in the streets of Tehran. Click my name and read my piece: George Bush, Iraq and Iranian Contempt for Barack Obama and the Anti-War Left.

Stupid
What do you expect Obama to do? Swoop in and change their election results? He can't. What would be the point of saying they are false? He doesn't have the evidence. You guys are so stupid and will complain just for the sake of complaining. It's getting old.

Tyler
No one wants Obamadinejad to change the election results. We want him to take a stand for liberty and democracy. Make a statement about how he is in the people's corner and that there should be an independent agency counting the ballots.

But this will not happen as he is a vacuous, gutless fool that represents nothing. He is a national embarrassment. Make that international.

Tyler
Why not? He is the messiah. He knows all.

We know that you libs always side with dictators, terrorists, murderers and rapists.

Tyler
Thanks for branding all those with an opinion other than yours, stupid. It lets intelligent people know to blow-off your posts and not waste time and brain cells.

Thanks again.

BTW. Weren't you one of the chief whiners when GWB was in office? Thought so. Someday you might grow up.

flap ears and the iranians
seems flap ears can cheer the corrupt efforts of acorn and bestow billions on them.

But flap ears can't tell the people protesting in the streets of iran he salutes their efforts to demonstrate the democracy they calim they have.

It seems spontaneous peaceful demonstrations in iran, like the tea parties here, don't interest flap ears since they aren't about him.

With luck the iranians will unite with the military to overthrow the corrupt mullahs and prehaps attempt to move out of the 10th century.

But instead flap ears claims he needs to discuss matters with the mullahs.

But how appropriate for flap ears to want to deal with the elitist running iran. After all flap ears doesn't feel comfortable being around the rabble

Tyler
I am as conservative as possible, but I mostly agree with you. Obama doesn't have the proof that the election was rigged and wouldn't be able to change it anyway. However; that being said, he would never stand up to anyone and demand accountability. Obamba is so busy driving the United States on the road to socialism and conducting his world appology tours that he doesn't have time for anything else, even if he was man enough to make a stand, which he isn't!

Soaring oratory?
Obama has no "soaring oratory"... only his speech writer does. Obama just reads well.

Carol
I believe you hit on something, especially if you put that obsequious, groveling, obeisance to the Saudi King in perspective.

But we have to remember, our system was set up for checks and balances and the toadies in the ruling majority are enabling this pretender to skirt our laws, abuse our constitution, payola for his cronies and supporters. Harry Truman said the Buck stops here (with him), but in these days the BUCK Stops with Congress. And
it's about time we demanded action from them,
they have to be thinking of 2010.
They are bound and determined to shove everything that patriotic Americans DON'T want from blanket amnesty to the Pervert/Pedophile
Protection Act. I understand every DemonRAT House member voted for that garbage and Alcee Hastings, the fmr. Impeached Judge admitted in his floor speech that this will protect every kind of perversion imaginable and will punish any decent American who dares object and/or protect themselves and their children from these animals. This is how depraved and debauched the DemonRAT majority is..so much for the Blue Dogs huh? We need to confront them when they are out campaigning and DEMAND answers from them, put them on the hot seat.
I'm so angry at both partys, the one for it's criminal treason and the other for its cowardice.

Haven't read the article BUT
I do wish this basTURD would just SHUT UP! I can't stand to see his never ending campaign carried by the MSM daily. My greatest hope is that he (and his ilk including Joey and Nancy)will leave office in shame before his term is up. Sorry, I mean leave office in disgrace as this man has no shame.

Obama's a Muslim
That's why he won't criticize the Ayatollah. Can't alientate him, now can we?

A fine chance for Obambi to show his true colors, and, since he is doing just that, of course, the MSM will NOT comment on it. They'll just let it be yet another elephant in the room.

Getting crowded in there, ain't it??

lambro
Obama is handling the Iran situation in the
very best way possible. It is not for us to
decide who is the legitimate president. Can
we learn our lesson from the 1950's or do we have to learn it all over again.

Don't believe everything you hear on Fox.

Tyler
is an idiot. Can you actually post something related to the article.

And BTW don't believe ANYTHING from the anit-American traitors at dailykostv.

More to the point
As usual, Obama comes out with "the vote of 'present.'"

His speeches and remarks about Iran are the same as everything else, empty rhetoric. He never says anything concrete. Everything is nuanced so that the listener can warp the words into any meaning they want. That is the emptiness of "Hope and Change." What one hopes and the change one wants is completely different from individual to individual.

No a chance to show leadership occurs and what does this lame excuse for a president do? He hides behind worthless noncommittal statement. His actions broadcast nothing but weakness to the world. And the message is deafening and clear.

I fear that he may surpass Carter and the worse president in history.

What a bright bunch
have shown up here. ohmygod.

Sorry I couldn't provide more examples of why
the Republican Party exists, but I don't have the room. Every country, I suppose, has its idiots, its big babies, its juvenile comedians, its profane jerks, its completely clueless people. We do here too, and they
seem to congregate way over there in the right
hand corner of the political spectrum, sucking their collective thumb and bellyaching endlessly, because they didn't win.

Tammy
You got THAT right! Not only a bright bunch, but one which is savvy and alert to what's happening right in front of their eyes.

You have a party in the Fed. gov't. that is determined to reverse the intentions of those who wrote our Constitution as they did to insure that we have rights, liberty and the "pursuit" of happiness.

They definitely did not want our country to be ruled by socialism, Communism, Marxism, or any other dictatorial ideology. These were wise men.

Do you actually believe you have more WISDOM that these dedicated and intelligent men?
I assure you, you do not. You are very foolish to support the socialist intentions of Obama. Though you obviously don't realize it, you and those who "think" as you do are the clueless ones.

No party cried like the Democrats when Bush won the 2000 election. They cried and they criticized him for eight years! This despite an independent vote count which showed he was the legitimate winner of the election.

BTW, don't you dare call me an idiot, profane jerk OR clueless! The very fact that you use those demeaning, and false, accusations, just proves that your rants are empty of any value.

Tammy
Ah, yes. The kind lady who posted "We are coming after you. You have been warned."

Kindly explain. Who is the "we"
Who is the "you".
Why is a warning necessary?
How is the trip going so far?

Stolen elections
It is not Obama's sympathy toward Islam that is keeping him from taking a stand. It is his lack of sympathy for people whose voices were diluted or washed away by voter fraud, since that is how he was elected. Not much difference between Ohio and Tehran, or between ACORN and the Muslim fundamentalist ballot box-stuffers.

Harmony
You have a party in the Fed. gov't. that is determined to reverse the intentions of those who wrote our Constitution as they did to insure that we have rights, liberty and the "pursuit" of happiness. "

****
Have you ever read a book about our founding
fathers, their intentions, and how they handled politics. You ought to give it a
try. It is a real eye opener. They hated
each other, there were fist fights, there was
at least one duel and the threat of others.

As for me, the pursuit of happiness requires
good health care. If I don't get it here, I
will move someplace else when I retire next
year. That is how important it is to me.
And don't tell me about Canada and Timbuktoo.
I know where the really good stuff is and I
already have a time share there. My votes
will remain here however.

Tammy
I thought you were going after somebody. Now you say you are leaving, presumably to get better cheaper health care at a time share? Be sure to let us know how that works out.

tammy the turd
another socialist happy to sit idly by while another dictator punishes his own people.

Funny how losers like you stand by and cheer when busloads of parasites are paid to attend rallies for your savior and messiah.

But flap ears can't be bothered to speak in support of the iranian citizens raising their voices against the mad mullahs ruining their country.

No one is asking america to send anything or anyone to iran, but flap ears would rather kiss the anal pore of the mullahs than take a stand for people demanding freedom from oppression

And likewise tammy the turd supports the killing mullahs rather than take a stand for those dying to free themselves

Hey Tammy
Enjoy that "free" health care when you leave. Don't be shocked when you learn that you are not "cost-effective" and are denied care. Don't believe it, come to any Detroit Hospital and see how many Canadians are paying out of their own pockets for treatments in the USA. So much for "free" health care in Canada.

Good riddance when you leave. I hear China or North Korea have a government system more to your liking.

The Barry voters
will learn, or at least a good number of them. The 20 percent who call themselves liberals will rationalize whatever happens to continue to portray themselves as victims of racism, robber barons, the military industrial complex, a theocracy, and so on.........
