Poll
Was the Copenhagen Global Warming Summit Walk-Out a Win for the U.S.?

WASHINGTON -- Most media polls are showing President Obama's job approval in the 59 percent to mid-60 percent range, but not pollster John Zogby, who says Obama's rating has dipped below 50 percent.

Contrary to many of the other major presidential surveys such as the venerable Gallup Poll, which puts Obama's number at around 60 percent or higher, Zogby's poll (mid-March) showed that Obama's job performance fell. His findings are significant for a number of definitional reasons and are worth a closer look.

In his most recent survey, the pollster said that "49 percent rate his job performance as excellent or good, and 50 percent as fair or poor (less than 1 percent were not sure). That is a dip of 3 points from the previous poll," Zogby said last week.

His numbers, as with other pollsters, show a huge partisan divide in how Americans rate Obama at this point in his young presidency. Ninety-one percent of Democrats score Obama favorably, compared with only 14 percent Republicans.

On job performance alone, 87 percent of Democrats rate him excellent or good, compared with just 9 percent of Republicans.

But if Gallup scores Obama's job performance at 60 percent or better, why are Zogby's numbers so much lower?

Zogby told me that he uses a scale that ranges from excellent to good on the positive side versus fair to poor on the negative. "If you look at the fair rating for Obama, that was 12 percent. If you split that, because some people think fair is approve, then you're up in the mid-50s," he said.

In Zogby's differential rating scale, "fair is a negative because it doesn't get you anywhere. Presidents don't run on the basis of saying reelect me, I did a fair job," he told me.

Other polls put their fair responses into their favorable percentage, and thus produce a larger approval number for the president in their surveys.

Obama's numbers have declined for several reasons, according to Zogby. For one thing, "expectations are very high," he said.

That's largely Obama's doing. He raised them by saying he could and would wipe away every problem the country faced: Fixing the economy, raising spending for a huge range of social-welfare problems, cutting middle-class taxes, enacting national healthcare, and developing alternative-energy sources to end our dependence on foreign oil.

It didn't take long for many Americans to realize that he could not do all of these things at once, and may not be able to some of them at all.

The other major disappointment was Obama's over-the-top claim that he would be able to bring warring political factions together in Congress and usher in an era of bipartisanship -- something for which he was not known for doing during his brief Senate apprenticeship.

"The message was supposed to be consensus problem-solving, and I think voters see a reversion back to hyper-partisanship," Zogby said.

Can Obama get his numbers back? "Sure, but right now the economic-stimulus package looks as if it's spending and people haven't seen the results," he said.

Promises are one thing, but delivering on them is quite another. And as things stand now, Obama's presidency has had a rough takeoff, to say the least, including a sloppy vetting process in his Cabinet and sub-Cabinet nominees. Critical posts at Treasury and elsewhere remain unfilled in the midst of the worst recession in decades.

His cap-and-trade energy taxes are going nowhere in this Democratic Congress. Democratic budget chiefs have erased proposed revenues for his two signature policy proposals on energy and healthcare reform. The money to pay for his middle-class tax cuts after 2010 remains in doubt. And polls show growing doubts over the huge deficits his budget would heap on a cash-strapped economy.

This week's revealing Washington Post poll found "the nation's overall mood remains gloomy, and doubts are rising about some of the administration's prescriptions for the economic woes. Independents are less solidly behind Obama than they have been, fewer Americans now express confidence that his economic programs will work, barely half of the country approves of how the president is dealing with the federal budget deficit, and the political climate is once again highly polarized."

Meantime, the administration is attempting to tighten the regulatory reins over an economy that sees higher, punishing tax burdens in its future to pay for Obama's grandiose spending plans and a monster federal debt that will make President Bush's budgets tame by comparison.

Obama was swept into the presidency on a luxurious buffet of spending promises for virtually every political constituency in the country that flocked to his banner. Voters wanted to believe he could do these things without imposing any costs on them.

Now we know he wants to charge seniors more for their Medicare prescription-drug benefits, reduce tax deductibility rates on home mortgages and charitable contributions, and increase taxes on small businesses and on the capital gains investors earn on their retirement investments. And that's just for starters.

The downward slide in his polls is only just beginning.

I was right. I said in Jan. that in 6 months the ones poll nubers would tank. I can't wait for Jun, and July.

Question
What % rate it as excellent?
What % rate it as good?
What % as fair?
What % as poor?

Seems like apples and oranges to me.

Most of the other polls on RCP are asking favorable or unfavorable. Is that why Zogby's is not included? Any other polls asking the Zogby question? excellent and good vs. fair and poor? The "fair" question would seem to me to be approval, like a "C" in a class.

http://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/other/president_oba ma_job_approval-1044.html

Obama's numbers will always
be higher than his approval because too many media types are invested in him. Can anyone really imagine NBC, ABC, CNN co-sponsoring a poll that reflected badly on their messiah?

No, the questions will be asked in a manner that favors O. Quite the opposite of how Bush was treated.

What goes up....
always comes down.

Obama & Co. persuaded too many citizens that he could walk on water and fix everything. Well, he's drowning as his water walk gets a little damp. He'd trying to do too many things at once lest he "waste this crisis".

Presidents of both parties have for too long been destroying the Constitution with their actions, usually aided and abeted by both Congress and the Courts. Obama has moved this particular problem a whole order of magnitude along. I would be surprised to find maybe 25% of his actions complied with the Constitution.

Unfortunately, there is very little citizens can do at this point. Congress should be our ally against presidential malfesiance, but those bozos are as bad or worse than Obama. About the only recourse we have now is to write the congress critters and threaten them with unemployement. That will be too little too late but a step in the right directions.

Polls do not matter
Barack Obama and the Democrat controlled Congress are going to push through as much of their socialist agenda as they can before the mid-term elections of 2010. Even if the Republicans regain control of Congress, they will be unable to reverse little of what the Democrats have passed. If Obama is not stopped now, there is little hope for the hardworking, freedom-loving Americans.

Obama doing one thing well...
He is highlighting the ignorance, gullibility, and/or just plain stupidity of a fairly large percent of the electorate...those who voted for him.

At the behest of our global elite mortgagors, he was created by Madison Avenue as a charismatic cult leader, and he's very successful in getting the masses to follow him in this journey through socialism to the nearby land of marxist enslavement.

Give credit where credit is due.

The Only Power the People Have Now....
... to stop this "progressive" juggernaut is to find our voice and scream like hell against it. It's up to the people to give the loyal opposition a spine.

If members of Congress believe they will lose their jobs, they will listen to the voters. But only if the voters come to their senses.

Americans are not supposed to be a bunch of sheeple, reaching across the aisle and going along to get along. We are supposed to be suspicious and loudly so of our politicians.

The danger of Obama is not that he's unable to do all he's promised. The danger is that he will do it. Voters need to be shown way his ideology is fundamentally unamerican.

People wanting BO's change need to steal a boat and row to Cuba.

John
Polls have influence, but there are 2 things that matter much more. How people vote, and how they handle their money. It doesn't really mean much if Dumbo's approval rating is 50/50 if the approval comes from street corner droopy drawers and the disapproval comes from those who invest, hire and fire. If this is true, the economy will stagnate, sort of like now. Reagan's election was polled as too close to call, and was a smashing landslide. People lied to pollsters. They still do. It is not popular to tell a pollster you are going to vote against a black man, vote against spreading the wealth, vote politically incorrect. So people lie. The 2010 vote will be very illuminating one way or the other.

Scorecard
Let's take a closer look at this socialist agenda and why it looks so tantalizing to those in need. The government is crafting a war between us and them and we are powerless to stop it unless we think, speak, and act. Rob Frazzini is proposing an Elected Officials Scorecar here http://www.robfrazzini.com/?p=196 and some positive thinking here http://www.robfrazzini.com/?p=226. I think he's barking up the right tree.

A word from the past
"A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within.
An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and carries his banner openly. But the traitor moves amongst those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself.
For the traitor appears not a traitor, he speaks in accents familiar to his victims, and he wears their face and their arguments, he appeals to the baseness that lies deep within
the hearts of all men.
He rots the soul of a nation, he works secretly and unknown in the night to undermine the pillars of the city.
He infects the body politic so that it can no longer resis.
A murderer is less to fear."
Marcus Tullio Cicero 42, B.C.

My Poll
I conducted a poll on myself, and I can proudly say that it is 100% accurate:

1. Do I trust Obama?
no

2. Is Obama doing a good job?
no

3. Do his policies suck?
yes

Conclusion: Obama's overall approval rating from me is 0%.

Approval ratings?
I stll don't accept the premise.

In a rational world this guy should still be a community organizer in Chicago, if that.

Key Point
The author states: "Obama's presidency has had a rough takeoff, to say the least, including a sloppy vetting process in his Cabinet and sub-Cabinet nominees." This in spite of the fact that George Bush all but turned over the White House to Obama and his team after the election.

If he couldn't get it right in spite of the generous pathway provided for him, he is incompetent in the extreme and that is being kind.

You are right, BUT rating our officials, especially Republicans, requires that we know what they are saying and doing. THAT REQUIRES A MEDIA, other than Fox News, THAT IS EAGER AND WILLING TO HAVE THESE SENATORS AND REPRESENTATIVES ON THEIR SHOWS. Haven't seen much of that. They probably won't if it is a negative for Obama. If these shows comply, everybody needs to be watching every show at once. WHAT DO YOU SUGGEST?

I don't believe we have enough people in this country who care enough to pay attention.

A view from the powerful:
Capital Research Center:
http://www.capitalresearch.org/blog/category/democracy.

GEORGE SOROS: You see, for the last 25 years the world economy, the motor of the world economy that has been driving it was consumption by the American consumer who has been spending more than he has been saving, all right? Than he’s been producing. So that motor is now switched off. It’s finished. It’s run out of — can’t continue. You need a new motor. And we have a big problem. Global warming. It requires big investment. And that could be the motor of the world economy in the years to come.

BILL MOYERS: Putting more money in, building infrastructure, converting to green technology.

GEORGE SOROS: Instead of consuming, building an electricity grid, saving on energy, rewiring the houses, adjusting your lifestyle where energy has got to cost more until it you introduce those new things. So it will be painful. But at least we will survive and not cook.

BILL MOYERS: You’re talking about this being the end of an era and needing to create a whole new paradigm for the economic model of the country, of the world, right?

GEORGE SOROS: Yes.

A voter has to ask themselves, is this what they support? Is this the case, or just more hype?

Does anyone here agee with Soros?

anderson659
No one in their "right" mind (get it?) could possibly agree with Soros.

There seems to be something inherently wrong with small minded people, in that they are so willing to give up their own power in order to hand that control over to someone else.

George Soros is one of those people who, for some inexplicable reason, has been the recipient of a lot of small minded people's will.

Obama is his hand puppet, so naturally, he moves as Soros moves.

I just took Marty's poll.....
the results are conclusive.

Obamanation
Anyone who believes that MORE gummint will solve problems is a complete and terminal IDIOT. The problems we face are all DUE to gummint action and inaction. All gummint and Obamanation can do is to grow problems and introduce new ones, while stripping any remaining civil liberties we do have. Just say no to marxism and say NO to democrats... say no to republicans until they figure our the RINOs need to be booted.

Tea Party
Correct, treason from within is killing our country. There are those who live in our land who hate it, who'd rather be a eurosocialist eunuch "ruled" by a new intelligencia (an oxymoron today) and aristocracy.

Obama is a bum who has never held a job (community organizer aka rabble rouser is NOT a job), neither is a State or US Senator.

Obamanation
Like Rush, I hope this poor excuse for an idiot (I disagree with O'Rielly that Obama is intelligent... unless you think Algore is intelligent) fails so miserably, that Jimmy Earl is bumped up from the bottom. I will not and cannot support a smarmy marxist (that includes Nancy the Red and Dingy Harry).

Oh, no...

You mean that "the oceans will not recede and the earth will not heal...?"

Oh, the calamities.

What could I have been thinking.

zogby's track record

the Pollster.com average has Barack Obama's numbers at 59.3 percent approve and 33.8 percent disapprove; the Real Clear Politics average is slightly more favorable to Obama, at 61.2 percent approve and 30.5 percent disapprove.

So a Zogby poll that put Obama's numbers at roughly 50-50 would be a significant outlier. Outliers are nothing new, however, when it comes to Zogby polls. They are, in fact, the rule and not the exception.

Let me qualify this a bit: Zogby International conducts two types of polls. One type are conventional telephone polls. Zogby's telephone polls, while prone to somewhat wild fluctuations and subject to their share of erratic results (such as predicting a 13-point win for Barack Obama in the California primary; Obama lost by 9 points), are actually not terrible, and did fairly well on November 4th.

Zogby, however, also conducts Internet-based polls. These polls are conducted among users who volunteer to participate in them, first by signing up at the Zogby website (you can do so yourself here) and then by responding to an e-mail solicitation. These Internet polls, to the extent they rely on voluntary participation, violate the most basic precept of survey research, which is that of the random sample. And as you might infer, they obtain absolutely terrible results.

NO FREE RIDES FOR OBAMA ANYMORE
I remember the moron who was in tears because with Obama she wouldn't have to worry about her mortgage or gas or anything anymore. And there were hundreds of thousands if not millions of these moonbeams out there.
Obama did NOTHING to calm them all down. He just let them believe all the crazy, pie-in-the-sky BS because he knew if they believed it, he was in.
So now he's in. It's time to sink or swim. No more 'hope and change' tripe. If he fails to do anything some of you Koo-Aid slammers believed he would do, you know who to blame now. And it ain't George Bush, it's WONDER BOY!

You're correct, Zogby is an outlier
And here's the complete rundown on why that poll is an outlier and not to be trusted:

http://www.fivethirtyeight.com/search/label/zogby

Hint via Nate: "These Internet polls, to the extent they rely on voluntary participation, violate the most basic precept of survey research, which is that of the random sample. And as you might infer, they obtain absolutely terrible results."

C'mon, Lambro. If you're going to try to make an argument on Obama's poll numbers dropping, at least do it legitimately.

All polls prove
is how stupid people are. If you are happy with someone that said:

"no earmarks" then put through over 8,000 of them.

"transparency on my watch" then quickly passed a "stimulus" that no one read-not even him.

"I wont hire lobbyist" then he hires lobbyist.

"I wont support NAFTA" then sends a letter to Canada saying it was just campaign rhetoric and it means nothing.

He chided Bush for telling American's to spend after 911 to help the economy. He then spends trillions of our dollars.

I could go on, and on, and on...is the bar this low for the American public. This guy is a mess.

Yes, I did Ranger
Unlike you, I don't follow lockstep behind corrupt politicians. You are a slave to the democrat party. I am a slave to no one, but this out of control government-thanks to simple minded people like you.

Did you move out of your mother's basement yet?

If you did, good for you. Maybe, you will be a man that thinks for yourself someday.

The News Needs Democrats
The News is by for and about what the Democrats are doing to each other.
Rob, rape, murder, destroy, and look at me.

No one wants to watch how conservatives live.

OO Eye balls = sponsors = $

Think Bush was bad,Obama is the worst .
I agree with reply #11,100% right. Is time for America to wake up today, tomorrow is too late.BO has an agenda to destroy America and he will do it,he does not care anyway. We the people have to wake now and opose his marxist/comunist agenda.I was born and lived in a comunist country for 25 years and I see what is coming, trust me,I know what I am talking about,do not take for granted the liberties that you have, tomorrow will be gone.

The Great Obama--Sham and Shame on:
Every misled, faithless voter who put this INEXPERIENCED PERSON in the most demanding executive job on the planet.

Could he run your grocery store today? NO

Could he run your restaurant today?
No

Could he run your gas station today?
No

Could he run your company today?
No.

Why? He does not have the experience and qualifications.

OK...SO LET'S PUT HIM IN A REALLY BIG, DANGEROUS JOB, THE PRESIDENCY.

WHAT HAVE YOU AMERICAN BECOME? SO EAGER TO GET THE "FIRST BLACK PRESIDENT" THAT YOU PUT THE FIRST INEXPERIENCED PERSON IN THE JOB.

THANKS A LOT...THANK GOD I SAVED, PAID OFF MY DEBT AND DON'T NEED A JOB!

HAVE A NICE DEPRESSION.

ROWDY BOOTS

An Educated Voter
A political party pandering to a "least common denominator" is dangerous - reference Germany in the 1930's. An "uneducated congress" passing "green" legislation, "carbon footprint" taxes, and extremely harmful "healthcare reform" would brand this congress and this administration as the worst and most destructive of American principles in our 232 years of existence.

Puberecent Fools ...
Forever young. The desire to remain young is
a foolish fetish and is an impossibility. We have traded maturity for adolecent petulence and desire. We aren't childlike but childish. In so doing, we elect a boy president and people who never broke through puberty to the congress.
They are fixated on "the illusion of power", which in fact is the oppression of the gulag. Their tactic is fear and catering to the basest nature of the electorate which is largely composed of people who are without the slightest understanding of the difference between license and freedom. We are a people who foster envy and are satisfied to see misapplication of the law bring otheres down.
The boy Obama answers to people more powerful than himself. his achievement is an illusion that only an arrogant man could be satified with.

I would add ....
what kind of men keep slavish and foolish people as their electorate? We have seen this in the workplace, where the director surrounds himself with people who are characterless and are wanting for ability. Staff that are nothing better than apparatchiks and for all the noise will remain servile.
I see T Boone Pickens advertisement here. Once an evil oil baron, now the darling of the left. Very old and very rich, what are his motivations? Does he qualify as a good man? Does he qualify as a leader? The answers you give say who you are.
And what of McKane? He assured us that we had nothing to fear from Obama. He told us that Obama was a good man.
'I'm from the government and you will do as I tell you as I know what's best for you.'

Obama's Quandry
From the looks of it, the President knew that his appeal to voters, and thus his ability to control Congress, would be short-run. Thus, his sprint to the Left and his rush to get every piece of legislation through Congress as quickly as possible. I really believed that he thought he could put off the effects of his massive spending spree (hyper-inflation) at least through the 2010 mid-term elections. He had high hopes that his assembeled collection of Wall St gurus (Geitner, Volcker, and Bernecke) could manipulate monetary policy in the short term, while his massive spending spree could eck out enough jobs, which would allow him to claim victory.

But he didn't anticipate the personnel problems (esp at Treasury). As a matter of fact, his entire White House operation has been very slipshod. The MSM has done a good job of covering the large number of gaffes, mistakes, and judgement calls the Obama White House has made in its short time in power. As a consequence, his ability to control legislation through the power of his charisma is waning. Obama it turns out, only has one ace card -his personality. That is why he is still in campagin mode. After it is all said and done, it is not his political powress but his personality that counts. If his personality begins to irritate and not enthuse, he is in real trouble.

Cliff
"I would add ....
what kind of men keep slavish and foolish people as their electorate? "

Perhaps you had Bertolt Brecht's famous quip:

"What do you do when you lose an election? You fire the people!"

Right Track / Wrong Track, Who Gains?
Yesterday’s ABC/Washington Post poll numbers show that in October of 2008 only 13% of respondents felt that the country was on the right track as opposed to 42% now. With regard to wrong track its 85% in October of 2008 vs. 57% now. Many commentators on the Right are trying to use the right track / wrong track stats as evidence that Obama is failing but they actually reveal that he is succeeding in turning around the public's perception of the problem. Furthermore four out of five respondents don't blame Obama for the current crisis in America and he has a current favorable rating of 66% as of the latest polling.

That same poll shows the Congressional Republicans with an approval rating of 25%. It would be foolhardy to think that a downtick for Obama translates into a direct up tick for the GOP. The failure of bi-partisanship on the Hill is, I believe, to be considered largely a function of GOP obstructionism for political ends and as such not necessarily a negative for Obama. Polling numbers, for what they are worth have shown that the public generally sees the GOP on the Hill to be operating in a partisan manner and not necessarily standing on party principles. In the final analysis, the GOP has to be about more than just sitting back and waiting for Obama to fail.

With regard to the Stimulus Plan spending as it relates to economic activity, no one with any degree of understanding of the American economy would expect that last months legislation would have an overnight impact, that is just so plainly naive. Meanwhile the DOW is up 13% since the beginning of March so just how “gloomy” are investors and just how little faith do they have in the future?

JPK ...
Listening to the radio ... it is amazing how tyranny is commonly accepted as the correct course. In discussing taxes, there is never the mention of the effect of fiat currency on the state of affairs.
Discussing health care, the Republicans talk about means testing.

republicans today are the towel boys in the Democrat latrine. They only desire to catch some of the spillover. The shame is that a remark like that would make me fighting mad. They are souless and as long as the money comes their way and all the perks and privaleges they are beyond manly offence.
Can someone tell me the difference between polititians/lawyeers and the criminals in prison? Attitude, ethic and motivation?

Polls - Whoo-hoo!
Polls schmolls.

As more people realize that

Obama's primary personality trais is COWARDICE, his approval numbers will deteriorate further.
