Was the Copenhagen Global Warming Summit Walk-Out a Win for the U.S.?

WASHINGTON -- It's safe bet that President Barack Obama will not be getting any awards from H&R Block for his administration's ability to sniff out tax dodgers among his Cabinet nominees.

Three nominees in a row, at last count, have run into trouble for nonpayment of taxes. One wiggled through his nomination, but two others have withdrawn, badly tarnishing the Obama presidency and shaking public confidence in his administration.

It was embarrassing enough that Timothy Geithner, President Obama's nominee for Treasury secretary, failed to pay $34,000 in taxes. This guy, after all, was a Federal Reserve president who will oversee the Internal Revenue Service -- whose job is to go after tax deadbeats.

But worse than that, Geithner had put off paying the IRS until November, shortly before Obama named him to the high-level Cabinet post, two years after the IRS brought the troubling tax problems to his attention in 2006.

When the roll was called in the Senate on his nomination, 34 senators voted against confirmation -- an unusually high vote of no confidence for a Treasury secretary -- including Democratic Sen. Tom Harkin of Iowa.

Before that scandal had barely cooled, former Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle, nominated to be secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services, revealed that he hadn't paid more than $128,000 in back taxes over three years.

Incredibly, Daschle chose to pay what he owed (more than $140,000 with penalties) just six days before his confirmation hearing. Colleagues were stunned by his lame excuse that he didn't know he owed the taxes.

The Senate Finance Committee, which oversees the IRS and the tax code, questioned Daschle behind closed doors Monday to hear their former colleague's explanations for his transgressions. He emerged from the grilling looking ashen-faced. By Tuesday, he withdrew his nomination, saying the uproar of his tax delinquency would only be "a distraction" that would end up hurting a presidency still in its infancy.

Ignorance of the law is no excuse when the average American worker is hauled before the IRS court to explain nonpayment of taxes. But that was part of Daschle's explanation when he was asked why he did not pay the taxes that were long overdue.

He had made more than $5 million in the past two years, reaping more than $220,000 from the healthcare industry that he would oversee as secretary of HHS, and the use of a chauffeured limo whose services are taxed by the IRS as income -- but on which he had paid no taxes.

That service alone was valued at $255,000 in unreported income, the committee's staff investigation found. Failure to report it can be a crime.

Particularly embarrassing to the Obama White House was the huge sum Daschle raked in from the health industry over which he would have official jurisdiction as HHS secretary.

The Health Industry Distributors Association (HIDA) dished out $14,000 for a speech he gave last year, and reminded the South Dakota Democrat of the fat check he received when the group raised concerns about possible Medicare reforms that would affect the healthcare industry.

In a letter, posted on its Web site, the organization reminded Daschle: "As you may recall from speaking to some of our members during HIDA's 2008 Executive Conference in Miami, where you were the keynote speaker, a competitive bidding program will undermine access to quality care for millions of beneficiaries."

But the consulting (i.e., lobbying) Daschle did for the healthcare industry goes much deeper than the large speaking fees he got from the health-insurance industry, drug companies and other healthcare groups.

As part of his work for law firm Alston & Bird in the past two years, he gave "policy advice" to UnitedHealth Group, an insurance conglomerate that assists the Medicaid program and dispenses advice to drug companies.

Obama wanted Daschle to oversee the development of his healthcare-reform program, but in the end he had become a case study in conflicts of interest that turned into an ethical nightmare for the administration.

The third nominee to run into income tax trouble Tuesday was Nancy Killefer, nominated to be a deputy director of the Office of Management and Budget and the administration's chief performance officer. She withdrew her name Tuesday after it came to light that she had mishandled her payroll taxes.

These embarrassing vetting blunders were "really quite stunning for a transition team that has so carefully studied everything that might go wrong," said presidential scholar Stephen Hess at the liberal Brookings Institution.

If any of these tax-evasion cases had broken in a Republican White House, the Democrats would be screaming for a special prosecutor and blocking any vote. The Democrats confirmed Geithner Monday and probably would have confirmed Daschle, too, but he mercifully spared Obama and his party from the bloody Senate battle that would have ensued.

Leona Helmsley, the late New York real-estate diva who went prison for failing to pay her taxes, once famously said, "Only the little people pay taxes." Three high-income tax evaders in a row this week left many people thinking that the Obama Democrats were adopting Helmsley's imperious rule.

Tax Cheats
I doubted we had heard the half of it. Just the tip of the iceberg. Obama promised to have the most ethical administration known to man,and Nancy Pelosi promised to 'drain the swamp'. What happened? Oh yes, the Democrat Party happened.

But they were able to discover...
They couldn't find a whole host of tax cheats in their party, but they did discover that Gov. Palin had tried to get a book banned from the library....ooops, turns out they were wrong about that, too.

What a joke.

This has me seething
My son is paying back taxes and interest on a small debt on his business taxes. Even though
he'd gotten bad advice from an incompetent accountant he took full responsibility for the mistake and it was a mistake including trusting this incompetent. Between taxes, the
rise in gas prices that caused his food costs to rise. The business died Nov 5, he had a steady customer base til then including businesses with regular weekly orders, he closed his doors the end of that week. It was wierd, the business didn't slowly decline, it just went poof, the day after the election and this state is a Blue State. We have lost mills in our area, and some of the businesses he served either cut hours and labor or just closed their own doors. The residential customers were facing their own financial problems so that clientele faded away It's small comfort knowing he's not alone when it will take years to pay off his debts.
And then Gibb comes up with the talking points even REpublicans who confirmed Geithner were parroting "a few exceptions for people who are uniquely qualified to lead this country." In other words, there are people so smart, that they are above the laws we the little people must obey.

Chicago Politics Rule
Of course Obamas cronies are influence peddling tax cheats! The man has been nurtured in the swamp of Chicago Politics and when Blago starts Blabbing, the circus will turn out to have more than three rings and King O will explode in a puff of smoke.

Karma is always waiting in the wings to attack those who cannot remember that they are mortal ... or in this case, that they were not elected President of the Supreme Soviet.

Defending Obama's Lack of Character

How does someone defend a person with NO character?

Obama Character
---------------
1) The summation of all of Obama's decisions and actions (judgment).
Chose a 'Black Separatist Church' to raise his kids in.

2) Obama's personally held values.
Brother and Aunt living in poverty and Obama ignores them.

3) Obama's view on sancity of life.
Thinks 'Partial Birth Abortion is a right for women.

4) Obama's defense of the helpless.
Worked hard to deny any aid to babies dying in excruciating pain.

5) Obama's associations, allies and friends.
ACORN, Terrorists, Communists, Socialists.

6) Obama's honesty and personal integrity.
Lies about anything for political expediency.

Those Trying to Defend Barack Obama have no other recourse than to attack the messenger of the truth about him or change the subject.

Those Trying to Defend Barack Obama have no other recourse than to point to other peoples bad behaviour in hopes of mitigating the horrendous lack of empathy that Barack Obama has for defenseless little Babies.

Those Trying to Defend Barack Obama have no other recourse than to try and point to others 'Radical' alliances and friendships in hopes of changing the subject.

Those Trying to Defend Barack Obama have found there is absolutely NO way to defend Barack Obama so they use any ruse they can to get off subject or change the topic.

Attempting to defend Barack Obama is a 'fools' quest at the very best.

Tax Cheats are the Good People to Obama

People who cheat on their taxes and lie about them are, 'Good People' compared to the friends, alliances and other nefarious people that Barack Obama has been close to his entire life.

Tax cheats are probably some of the best people Obama has ever known and associated with.

Barack Obama has 'Consistently' shown bad judgment in his choices of friends, alliances and associates.

Rod Blagojevich - whom Obama campaigned for and endorsed - is just one of the many 'Nefarious' characters which Barack Obama has aligned himself.

Tony Rezko - convicted felon - and Obama had several buisness dealings.

Obama started his political career in the home of Bill Ayers - unrepentant terrorist.

Ali Abunimah head of a radical Palestanian group received contributions from Obama.

Barack Obama chose his Mentor and spiritual adviser, Jeremiah 'God Damn America' Wright.

The list seems endless - read about more of them on my blog.

http://hisfacts.blogtownhall.com/2008/10/21/obamas_radical_ and_communist_alliances.thtml

Barack Obama has consistently 'Chosen his friends Carefully' according to him.

What consistency - What judgment - Barack Obama has shown!

Unemployment Tax Holiday
Please help spread the word about a petition for 'Unemployment Tax Holiday'. We are asking to be allowed to pay back unemployment/income taxes over 2 or 3 years without penalties. We think that IRS should, at the very least, give us the same treatment they gave to Tom Daschle, Tim Geithner and Charlie Rangel.

The petition can be found at: http://ue09.blogspot.com/

Any more questions?
Ephesians 6:12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

Leave Them Alone
We are wasting time with these confirmations and their petty snoopings into the lives of our ruling elites. It’s insulting and most undignified for them to have to be probed by the ignorant masses.

We wanted change. Self governance proved too difficult for us. We flocked in the millions and knelt before Him and pledged our fealty to Him, our savior, our messiah because we wanted free food, medical care, mortgage free homes, and college loans. We accepted His dominion over us, Him and his Dukes and Earls in our legislature who promised to carry out His wishes.

Under feudalism, vassals have no rights to impose themselves on their feudal lords. We are due only a meager, but safe and predictable, existence. This is the bargain we struck with them. Give us free stuff and our share of surplus government cheese, and we will give up our freedoms and our horizons.

Our lords have much to do. It is an enormous task to feed and clothe 300 million stupid slaves who are unable to change their diapers. Do we really expect that our masters have the time to fret about trivial matters like taxes, rules and other legalities? They have to be granted certain indulgencies. They cannot be fettered with all the laws we have to obey. We have nothing to do but eat and soil ourselves.

Our rulers have to manage our lives. That’s what we voted for. Leave them alone.

what you want
He "nominates" and we rejected. He said, "OK, they should go." And they are. He apologized and admitted the error of this episode.
Can we move on? What more do you want?
If we rejected every tax cheat in Washington we'd empty the joint and leave it back to the mosquitoes.
Another way to look at this is that the tax system is even corrupting our nations' leadership. If you'd dare call them that.
Change the tax system!

Obama's Tax Cheaters
Why aren't Daschle and the other tax cheaters Obama has nominated in jail?

In 1970, I was in the army. In September of 1969 I returned from a year in Vietnam. When I made out my 1969 tax return I made an error in my favor. It was an honest mistake. The day before I received my tax refund I received a three page letter from the IRS informing me of my error and they acted as though I made the error deliberately in an attempt to defraud the government out of money. They informed me that should it happen again I could face a fine of $5,000 or five years in jail or both.

What was the exorbitant amount that I, according to the IRS, was attempting to defraud the government out of? It was a whopping one cent!

Taxes
In the tax year of 2007 both the IRS and my state revenue department lost money that I had sent them. I ended up having to pay interest but not penalty to the IRS and pay both interest and penalty to my state.
Of course I proved that I had sent them the monies that they lost.
"Only the little guys pay taxes." This could be an Obama quotation.

One Word Solution
FAIRTAX

Tax Cheats
Daschle should bury himself in the Black Hills in shame, never to be heard from again. What a loser.

Audit Time
All members of congress should have a tax audit. That should be a prerequisite of having the power to make tax laws for the rest of us.

Congress should be an open book where their finances are concerned. If the little guy must pay their taxes,so should the big guy.

Come on conservatives
you know demarats never brake the law. They can do anything, and the msm will tell us how great they are, and how we just can't do with out them. Just look at Mr Geithner, Mr Rangle, Mr Daschel, and Ms Killefer. My question, who is next?

PARA_DIMZ
You certainly gave me my laugh for the day. Our tax system is corruping our leadership. Right! Blame it on someone or something else - typical Dem.
Just because he apologized doesn't mean he has good judgment - his abysmal lack of judgment is frightening. No experience is showing big time.

Change we can believe in?
I don't know why Daschle quit, after these dummies confirmed Geithner who had far more serious problems than the others. None of these dipsticks has any honor or integrity. Obama has already appointed lobbyist, no integrity there either. Geithner, Rangel, Daschle, and the other person got passes no other citizen would get. Joe the plumber gets an anal exam, in to his taxes, and slammed by the media for asking Obama a question that forces him to be truthful. I understand the lack of these traits is okay by many because Dems never claim to have standards or ethics anyway.

Mark Foley sends sleazy emails to a page, his party sends him packing, Gerry Studds did much more engaged in the act the left lauds him. William Jefferson stashes questionable cash in his freezer after having commandeered a National Guard truck working on Katrina rescue, the left yawns.

The left
is a carbuncle on this American Republic, just
as suppurating and putrid as a conventional carbuncle..start to drain it and more levels are
exposed.
O's apologizing is a royal joke..you know I am getting pretty tired of empty apologies from these gutless wonders. I think the Only apology that's been sincere from the magic One
were the apologies to Europe and to the muslim world, all else is just his lips moving.
It is galling that the Republicans joined in this confirmation, and he isn't a member of THE
Club (Geithner I mean) and now he's standing with the O letting the world KNOW that any business CEO's getting a bailout, including those the government goons forced to take a bailout will now be serfs of the O administration. And if they really play ball
they will all get along fine, just make sure some of that money is laundered through to ACORN and it's subsidiaries. And Big Bro will be watching so that every compliance is seen, heard and obeyed...he's the messiah, he won, he rules.

CEO PAY CAP
I was amazed at what some CEO's were doing & making BUT what BO is doing smacks of Communism. He's ordering how much a person can be paid. This man scares me to death.
I'm hoping the Republicans fight him tooth and nail over the stimulus package (what a joke) and is a thorn in his side for however long he remains in Office. (Impeachment, etc)

Tax Cheats
For the life of me, I don't see why Presidents don't pick business men to do business tasks rather than politicians. It seems that Mr. Obama is trying to govern by ideology, as opposed to qualifications.

I'm afraid that Mr. Obama will turn out to be a worst President than Jimmy Carter. Now that's a reverse miracle if I've ever seen one.

Our Government
Ithink you would be hard press to find someone in government that has principles. They all want to be king anyway they ca. It looks like the end of the good old U.S.A..

Obama's Glaring Hypocrisy 1

Rudy Gerston wrote an article on another February 3 TH thread titled,

“Daschle’s Hypocrisy.

Rudy’s next article ought to be titled, Obama's Hypocrisy.

In a statement after Daschle's withdrawal, we were informed by dimwitted Obama White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs, saying Daschle had made the surprise decision, entirely on his own:

"The president said he accepted Mr. Daschle’s sudden withdrawal “with sadness and regret.”
Later, the chief White House spokesman, Robert Gibbs, said Mr. Daschle had made his own decision to withdraw. “He did not get a signal” from the White House, Mr. Gibbs said."

http://www.nytimes.com/2009/02/04/us/politics/04obama.html ?hp

Moments later, His Husseiness "The Great Pretender", tells the media:

“Tom made a mistake, which he has openly acknowledged,” Mr. Obama said, speaking about Mr. Daschle, who he considers a close personal friend.

“He has not excused it, nor do I..."

Yet another Obama lie!

Obama Stands By Daschle, 'Absolutely'
By Anne E. Kornblut

"President Obama repeated his support on Monday for Thomas A. Daschle, whose failure to pay more than $146,000 in back taxes until last month has raised concerns about his nomination to head the Department of Health and Human Services.

During a White House photo op, Obama was asked whether he still stands by Daschle.

"Absolutely," Obama said."

Obama's Glaring Hypocrisy 2

Now, today the MSM is trying to portray Obama’s pronouncements that he takes the blame for the Daschle “distraction”, as if it shows leadership and courage.

Yet, he is not being asked why, if he has had such an epiphany concerning the appearances that would be created by a Daschle appointment, why he hasn't applied that same concern for his appointment, and continued support, for tax-cheat Timothy Geithner who is in CHARGE of the IRS?

He claimed he made a mistake yesterday...yet today he appears with Treasury Secretary Timothy F. Geither at his side to outlined another of his socialist plans to force a salary cap that would be $500,000 for executives.

Oh...that's just what we need...who's wages will he assign a cap to next...your's? Mine?

He apologized yesterday for tax-cheat Daschle; today he appears at the side of tax-cheat Geithner.

IN YOUR FACE HUBRIS AND HYPOCRISY!

Thank you for your service and for your reply to my posts.

Rush Limbaugh cheating too
What's all the fuss Conservatives? Dick Cheney- one of your best guys laundered money to an account in The Isle of Man on profits he made from Halliburton's operations in Iraq according to The Atlantic. He successfully dodged the IRS and is not paying a penny back. Should Dick get a free pass on tax evasion since he was VP?

Another hero of Conservatives: Rush Limbaugh is a Kingpin of welfare-corporate capitalist style at U.S. Tax Payer expense. This free loader has made hundreds of millions over the years but hasn't paid a dime in taxes for his use of the public airwaves to broadcast hate speech and propaganda. Ralph Nader's letter to him outlines his Welfare King behavior.

http://www.nader.org/index.php?/archives/2100-Letter-to-Rus h-Limbaugh.html

Why should Democrats be punished for Tax evasion when Republicans are getting away with doing the same at a higher magnitude and taking corporate welfare while claiming to be "Capitalists".

Sorry. There was about a half ton of sarcasm in my 9:25 post. It didn't translate.

So far the news out of DC just. . .
shows us the ugly side of our legislators. We are being aware of people making two million a year consulting. Bull poop. who, now who is worth that? And the list goes on. Mr. President you have sparked a new but different interest in your job.

PresidentialBalls.com

First?
You're joking, right?

Both of the cases you cited are not remotely connected with the tax cheating exposed these past two weeks.

Nice try. Come back and post something when you have better information.

By the way, try reading something beside The Atlantic or a letter by Ralph Nader.

Did I ask if you were joking?

PARA_DIMZ
Sorry! I had to read it several times to figure out if you were serious or not. Evidently not. It sounded so typically Liberal!
Sorry again.

First
What has Limbaugh been elected or appointed too?
Do you have proof of cheating or has the existing law been used to his advantage? Believe me if he had been cheating you libs would crawl over broken glass, under barbed wire, butt naked to get him. If Cheny did then he should be punished. We do know Killerfer, Geithner, Daschle, are dishonest, lack integrity, tax cheats. atahey only paid up because they got nominated for some position, and their cheating would get exposed. Let's not forget "I will not appoint any lobbyist" That of course was just some words to say on the campaign trail, I don't have enough integrity to live by it.

RDS....Rush Derangement Syndrome
It is always fun to see who the left will try to run down each day. Rush Limbaugh or Sarah Palin or both.

The people who worry them the most are who they try to tear down. The influential ones. Comic relief.
