Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

The Democrats who say they're in no rush to approve emergency funding for our troops in Iraq and Afghanistan, may be digging themselves into a hole in the global war on terrorism.

It is an axiom of American politics that whatever divisions there may be in our electorate over the war, a majority of voters want their government to stake out strong, unequivocal positions on national security. There can be no "maybe" in our collective voice to defend our country and our allies.

But the Democrats have been sending increasingly disturbing signals of weakness, doubt, division and fear in their actions lately that may come back to haunt them in the 2008 elections. A few examples:

-- They took off for an Easter spring break two weeks ago, leaving the unfinished troop-funding bills on the shelf while our soldiers were fighting and dying in the war on terrorism.

Democratic leaders maintained that our troops were in no danger of running out of needed arms and armor, but the military said otherwise. That's why the administration labeled the funding request an "emergency." Whatever your position on the war, Americans want to make sure our forces have everything they need to defend themselves and kill the enemy in battle.

-- Before leaving town, Democratic leaders also sent word they were no longer going to use the words "global war on terrorism" -- the term the administration uses to describe the war we, and our allies, are fighting. But if anyone needed fresh evidence we are in the midst of a truly global war against radical Islamic terrorism, it was provided in blood and body parts last week in two countries on the continent of Africa.

Al Qaeda's new wing in North Africa bombed the prime minister's office in Algeria Wednesday, killing more than two-dozen people and wounding more than 200 others. The day before, terrorists in Morocco blew themselves up in a battle with police.

The group claiming responsibility for the bombing in Algiers calls itself "Al Qaeda in Islamic North Africa," an arm of a growing Al Qaeda network that has struck in several European countries. There were the bombings in Great Britain; the train bombings in Madrid, Spain, where 191 were killed and 1,800 injured; the bombing of a Tunisian synagogue that killed 21 and numerous other attacks throughout the Middle East and in Asia; the 9/11 attacks in the United States; and now last week when Al Qaeda was opening up a new front in North Africa.

If this is not a global war on the civilized world, what else would you call it? If Democratic leaders have a problem with this term, they have a serious problem understanding the terrorist threat that faces us here and abroad. And that threat is getting worse. The attacks in Algiers, the deadliest in the region since 2002, when bombers killed 38 people and wounded 80 others, sent new signals that "Islamic fighters were regrouping," said an Associated Press dispatch. It called the attack on the prime minister's office "the most brazen attacks in Algerian history."

That raised new global-security concerns in Europe. "Could Europe, just a boat ride across the Mediterranean, be next?" an AP dispatch out of Paris asked last week.

But is any of this registering on Democrats who are bent on passing an emergency supplemental appropriations bill for the troops that tells these terrorists the date on which we are going to quit Iraq?

Last week's Al Qaeda attack on the Iraqi parliament building was a fresh reminder of what awaits the Iraqi government and its civilian population if we pull out and let the terrorists take over, seizing the rich oil fields that will give them renewed resources to threaten us with biological, chemical and perhaps nuclear weapons.

All of this makes the Democrats' arguments of the past about the nature of the terrorist threat seem even more ridiculous now than it seemed back then. Last year, and well into this year, Democratic leaders argued that we should be focusing on only one country -- Afghanistan. That is where the real terrorist threat is, Nancy Pelosi and John Kerry have said, not in Iraq, which they dismissed as a civil war and hardly a serious front in the battle against Al Qaeda.

But it turns out that Iraq is now a central breeding ground for Al Qaeda, as are the neighboring countries of Iran and Syria, which has been arming, training and financing the terrorists.

Last week, the U.S. command in Iraq said Iraqi militia fighters were being trained in Iran in the manufacture of armor-piercing roadside bombs (EFPs, or explosively formed penetrators) to kill American soldiers.

In a briefing in Baghdad last week, U.S. military spokesman Maj. Gen. William Caldwell told of the Iranian role in the latest attacks on our forces: "We know that they are being in fact manufactured and smuggled into this country, and we know that training does go on in Iran for people to learn how to assemble them and how to employ them."

But while Caldwell was revealing how Iran was helping the terrorists in Iraq, House Speaker Pelosi and Senate Democratic Leader Harry Reid were on Capitol Hill saying they had no problem with lawmakers traveling to Iran and talking with their leaders.

Such is the mind-set of the present Democratic leadership in the midst of the global spread of terrorism that threatens all of us, now more than ever.

WHAT?
"...may be digging themselves into a hole in the global war on terrorism..."

"MAY" be? There's an understatement!

The Leftinistra are just flat out dumber than a box of used condoms.

Oh Fiddle!
The GOP Hierarchy sat down at the roulette table prior to 11/7/06 and they put all their chips on the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, the New Tone and the Hispanic Vote. Totally ignoring and insulting their base supporters. Surprise Surprise. Look what happened. And now we want to blame the Dem's for exploiting our extreme weak defensive lines? The Dem's are riding high right now.

And look what our illustious President is doing. Appointing Gov. Bill Richardson-D, New Mexico to an important position of envoy to N. Korea. What a feather in his cap! And a boost for Democrats. And praising Ted Kennedy as our "best legislative Senator". Also, trying to push forward a so-called immigration bill that no one but the Dem's and Rino's want.

Talking about "fiddling while Rome burn's"? That lable belongs exclusively to our own dysfunctional GOP family Mr. Lambro. Don't you think? DD

I would say
our whole government fiddles while the world burns.
The pols in DC seem to have gone off their proverbial rockers. The dims keep investigating Bush. Bush keeps bending over. Our borders remain open. The troops are waiting for their funding.
Nancy kisses Assad's gluteus maximus while Syria provides aid to the enemy to kill off our soldiers. Now she wants to go kiss AhmedNuts's gluteus maximus while Iran supplies deadly weapons to kill off our soldiers.
Does anybody in that god forsaken beltway have a clue?

Chapter 13 is now up on my blog for those reading the diary.

Peppermint
Your right. Watching our representatives perform is akin to watching fantasy-land movie. These idiots in DC are so bent on their self-serving power struggles they don't see that the United States is burning from within. The inmates are truly running the Asylum!

The (D)s and (R)s...

Don has it aright, to an extent. Our current crop of Politicians, most of then, do seem to be flinging poo while the world burns.

Pelosi is the worst. She not only flings poo at the voters and the President, but the Constitution as well. Where does she get off playing SecState?

Saddest of all, our President has the cajones to confront terrorists, but not Dhimmicrats.

Goshawk and Pappy
Good comments both of you.
We are living in truly nutty times. If it gets any crazier, I'll have to start drinking the hard stuff just to deaden the pain of it all. Never done that before, but these pols are driving me to it.:-)

what strikes me as odd
Is the fact the leftist posters always claim conservatives are spouting talking points and are swilling "kool aid" yet while here I noticed several posters angry at the CIC for leaving the border open, being too lienient on criminal democratic actions. But I have never really seen any comments from the left showing anything other than talking points and blind obedince to a socialist agenda. I believe Snooper would agree that the anti-war protesters having among their ranks central american communist groups is enough to show their true feeling about our country.Hopefully the GOP will put a canidate forward that will stand by our beliefs and values.

The title of this column is
"Democrats Fiddle While The World Burns". I find that interesting in that the "Democrats" was used rather than "liberals". Prior to the 2000 elections you could have made the point that although almost all of the Dems were financial and social liberals, there were a few who were hawks on the foreign policy side. With the advent of the "Deniacs" and purging of the party over the last 6 years you can no longer say that. They have completed the process that started back in the late 60s and have purified their party. Now you can use the terms Democrat and Liberal interchangeably.

Sadly over the years many of those purged liberals with hawkish tendencies have entered the Republican Party. On a lot of issues these pols with an (R) after their name will still vote with their (D) brethren. We call those individuals RINOs. In a lot more instances lately they have proposed Republican liberal policies on social and economic issues. We call those Neocons.

Now you can NOT use the term Republican and conservative interchangeably. The question remains, can the Conservative movement take back the Republican Party?

Vic
Your right about the Democratic party. I have heard many times from many sources that the Democratic party is no more. It has been completely hijacked by the Liberals and should be called the Liberal party. With that part complete, they're now infiltrating the Republican party.

In denial
Why is it that this is the opening line in so many liberal posts? It is almost as popular as "you are all racists".

First off I don't believe any polls except those that are given on election day. 2nd, even if these polls were accurate I would not believe them because they are based on answers from a population that has been "educated" by lies promulgated from the MSM. Most of the public have absolutely no idea how things are going in Iraq.

3rd, it is not the job of US leaders to get behind what ever thing is deemed to be popular at the time. It is the job of the politicians to lead and do what is right for the country.

And finally, liberals like you are totally out of touch with reality.

To hosekuervo
What you, the Dems, and the Republican elite should take home from the last elections is this:

The Democpraps won control of both houses in extremely narrow victories.

A large number of conservatives stayed home because they believe the Republican Party has abandoned them. This was the difference in the elections, NOT the peace-keeping in Iraq.

If you or the Dems think that Iraq is the driving force for the 06 election then be prepared to go back to minority status if the Repubs finally wake up.

If the Republican elite do not do something to bring back the conservatives, not only will they lose more ground in congress, but they will lose the White House too. Then we can go back to the good old days of total Democrap control, like when Carter was president.

Liberal Psychosis
With the very existence of our nation at stake, the Democrats are worried about grabbing temporary political power by making sure we lose another war. The main similarities between Viet Nam and the War on Terror are the Democrats cowardice and treason.

To hosekuervo
Yes, read what I said "Extremely narrow victories". Not the number of victories. Most of these victories were by less than 1% of the votes. In some cases the victories were so narrow that no victor could really be determined. Of course the Dems have tried to spin this into a mandate. That's just normal for the Party of the Big Lie.

If a few more Repubs had shown up it would have been a Dem defeat.

Vic
They don't care. It's the globalist elite vs. real conservatives. There are plenty of the globalist elite on BOTH sides of the aisle. The Presidential front-runners ALL are globalists, in BOTH major parties. So, they don't care whether a Republican or a Democrat wins, they will still control the show.

If we don't stop voting by Party and start voting for the individual, we have no hope of prevailing.

Vic & 'Kuervo
Vic has it right about the "narrowness" of the victories, but what is even more telling were the number of candidates with a "D" after their name which ran to the right of their "R" opponents and won. I believe they are called "Blue Dog Democrats".

It is amusing to listen to the Democrats' claim they have been given a "mandate" by the results of '06, but that GWB's re-election in 2004 with a MAJORITY of the popular vote (something Clinton NEVER achieved), was a non-mandated, "narrow" win.

I guess it just depends on which side of the fence you sit... so what else is new?

Peppermint
"Does anybody in that god forsaken beltway have a clue?"

Who was it that said.... nothing in politics happens by accident.

Not out of touch or in denial...
Poll numbers --- "a sure sign of a bad idea is the applause of the mob"

Fiddling
Well, I'm not sure WHO is "fiddling" more, because I see it coming from BOTH sides of the aisle and I'm not just talking about the politicians.

Everyone is so focused on the evil terrorists (yes, I realize there are terrorists, but they're not our biggest problem right now), they are not watching what is happening in our OWN COUNTRY. We are having record-breaking trade imbalances, our dollar is failing, illegal immigration is rampant, efforts continue under the guise of SPP to merge Canada, Mexico and the U.S., Bush wants to keep fast track authority so that he can ram through more NON-FREE trade agreements while the ones we have have sent countless industry and jobs to RED China and India, etc., etc., etc.

Do you really think this is all some big accident? Geez. If one wanted to orchestrate America's downfall, you couldn't do it any better than what we are doing.

To Primus54
I think that the 08 election is going to be one of those watershed events that occurs about once every 50 to 75 years. One of the two major political parties is going to go down into a permanent minority status for a long time.

The Dems have been given a chance to show their colors in Congress. This was done largely through dissatisfaction of the Republicans by conservatives who normally have voted for Republicans.

The Dems so far have shown nothing that most normal people would find as worthwhile. In congress their big achievements have been witchhunt investigations looking for a crime or an excuse to manufacture a crime. On foreign policy they have tried to figure out a politically palatable method of surrendering to the terrorists as well has a way for Congress to take over foreign policy.

I have a secret to share with Ms Pelosi. You were not elected by the American public. Very few of the general population agree with the political philosophies of the average SF voter. If you keep on with these illogical forays into foreign policy you will destroy the Democrat Party. SO my recommendation to you….keep on keeping’ on.

If the Dems keep up their current actions and the Repubs wise up, the Dems will go down for the count. If the Repubs don’t wise up and the Dems get rid of Pelosi and Dean, the Repubs will go down for the count.

deceit
The current administration caused these problems in Iraq. Prior to the war, there were no Al Qaeda terrorists in Iraq. Bush and his cronies lied and misinformed the congress and the public about Iraq, claiming that Hussein had WMD's. They used fraudulent and misleading evidence:

*attempts to obtain yellow cake uranium were all based on fraudulent papers from spain. These papers were used by the british govt, as well as, the US govt to support the war even AFTER the CIA proved them to be frauds.

*Aluminum tubes that were supposedly to be used for centrifuges were actually found to be for 88 mm Rockets and were later found at the factory. The International atomic energy agency had already pointed out that they were not the correct design for centrifuges.

The US then went into Iraq and did Osama's dirty work for him. We removed the ONLY secular dictator in the middle East. The ONLY dictator who pushed women's rights and freedom of religion. Although, it is noted that he was very cruel to anyone who threatened his power; Saddam was no friend to terrorists and was not a major threat to the US (unlike radical islam, Al Qaeda, Iran, N. Korea).

It should also be noted that the administration had assessed the costs as 50-60 Billion [it has cost hundreds of billions of dollars]. The administration also claimed that the war would last only a short time [6 months according to rumsfeld].

Who should be blamed for the fiasco in Iraq? Not the Dems!!

Iraq is not the problem. It is the fundamentalist religious mindset (islam and christian).

Troll spinning
Wonderful to see that the TH liberal trolls still have their heads thoroughly buried under sand. Still too busy worrying about those damned Christian theocrats and pretending that Saddam wasn't buddy buddy with terrorists so they can feel good about themselves.

Explain the Al-Queda training camps in Iraq under Saddam's rule.

Explain why the dems loaded 24 billion dollars of pork to an emergency war funding bill, only to have it pass by 3 votes. Further explain why this bill included a timetable for withdrawl, something entirely outside the realm of Congress' authority.

But hey, why put any deep thought into anything, living with your head buried in two feet of sand is surely more comfortable than seeing reality.

DA
Have you ever read what Clinton said in 1998.
Read it and get back with your argument of no WMDs

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1066449/posts

DA/deceit
What you wrote has its points. However, since Saddam is gone, the worst thing that the US could do right now is to leave Iraq before it can defend itself. Bush made the bed and now he must lay in it. Unfortunately, the American public and Congress are along for the ride. BTW there were terrorists in Iraq. Saddam allowed them to train in training camps in some of the more sparsely populated areas of the country without interference. Granted, there are many more now than before, but at least they are being killed over there. Bush cannot sign the funding bill as written, as it gives a time table for the bad guys to wait for. Congress needs to get things going, and stop interfering with the final stages of the Iraq situation.

Um...

Hmm.
On the 13th, David Limbaugh accused Democrats of fiddling while Iraq burns.

Now, just three days later, Democrats are fiddling while the WORLD burns!

Who knew things could get so bad so fast? I thought conservatives' dire warnings about the consequences of a Democratic congress were a little over the top. But not even they predicted immediate global immolation!

Moron...

Brian
I think you are right, but the Libs' heads aren't in the sand. Those heads are in a different dark place.

Boggle
Reading a TH column is like playing Boggle. In Boggle you look at a bunch of letters and see how many words you can spot. Often the words are overlapping and use the same letters in different ways.

Now read a TH column and spot the misrepresentations, misdirections, and outright misstatements. Like in Boggle, the winner can find lots and lots, but I have only a few. From the opening:

"The Democrats who say they're in no rush to approve emergency funding for our troops in Iraq and Afghanistan," -- I never heard a Democrat say this. They have said that the Bush deadline of April 15 or May first was bogus. They refer to Pentagon audits. (1) Moreover, they already would have approved funding had Bush not threatened to veto the bill. If Bush needs the funding so desparately, he will sign the funding bill they send him (2).

".. may be digging themselves into a hole in the global war on terrorism." There is no global war on terrorism, that's a brand name pushed by the RNC (3).

"..a majority of voters want their government to stake out strong, unequivocal positions on national security." -- Curious, refer to polls as though they support Bush. They don't. A large majority wants to start withdrawal within a year with a timetable. (4)

To DA
Every point that you listed has been documented as false complete with links in previous TH posts. No I am not going to do your research and go back and duplicate all this.

To D_Doutel

The Dems have been in charge in congress only for a short time now. Give them a chance, they have only succeeded in making fools of themselves so far. If the Repubs sit on their cans and let them, I'm sure they progress to the next stage and try to destroy America.

Terrorists In Iraq B4
One terrorist who comes to mind who was in Iraq prior to the latest US invasion was Al Zarqawi. He got wounded in Afghanistan, and was in Iraq for medical care. So to say that Saddam had no ties at all to the terrorists is false on the face of it.

Cut and Run
Hosekuervo,

Not all who oppose the way the war is going are in your "cur and run" corner. Note they oppose how the war is going, they don't support the left. Many of that 68% (or whatever the current percentage is) actually support GREATER involvement. So, among your 65+% are a number who think Bush is doing TOO LITTLE. So, don't confuse those unhappy with the war with the surrender lobby.

liberalgoodman
"Moreover, they already would have approved funding had Bush not threatened to veto the bill."

So now you are Edgar Cayce?

Craig C
Add to your terrorist list Abu Nidal (who was involved in killing US citizens), though he was killed by Saddam right before our invasion -- not for a lack of love, but as a PR move, and Ansar al-Islam, who had a huge training camp in Iraq

Yes, the leftists will tell you it was in the Kurdish regions, but it was still in Iraq, and, thanks to ignoring the no-fly zones, Saddam had more control over both the north and south than liberals would amdit. Of course, admitting Saddam ignored the no-fly zones would be admitting we had at least one reason to invade, and that is anathema to the left.

liberalgoodman
If I was Bush I would direct the OMB to take the money from the congressional operating budget. When it was empty I would tell them to shutdown until they had a budget.

We need to speak up!
We need to let these liberal nincompups that they better do their jobs for whats right for the security of the country vs. what they thing it's right for the party.
Reagan Democrats need to take their party back!
You need control the fools that you have in charge and you need to do it now!!

Wake up take your party and country back.

God Bless President Ronold Reagan and his Family!

Yo chill out
The world is burning? The very existence of our nation is at stake?!?

Why do the stakes have to be so high in these discussions? Every generation of politicians and their cohorts of commentators like Lambro want to convince us we're going to hell in a handbasket!

We in the electorate eat it up without criticism or sense of proportion. If you're conservative, youøre probably convinced the terrorists are going to destroy our way of life tomorrow if we don't immediately stomp out the entire middle east. If you're liberal, gosh the world's oceans will swallow us up next week if we don't revert to Victorian standards of living.

Meanwhile, the global economy improves each day, Americans' social cohesion improves, worldwide millions are lifted out of poverty by free commerce, and pretty much everyone can expect to live longer, healthier, richer lives than at any other time in history. Let's face it, unless you live in Africa, this is the best time in history to be alive. Ever. And all things being equal, I'd rather be born tomorrow than today.

Get a grip people, and try to keep your perspective. Our generation and the ones to come have got it made. Terrorists or no terrorists, global warming or not. Hey, at least we're not hunter gatherers who doubt whether half of us will survive till next year!

Dumbercrats
Should we be suprised that the Democrats are weak on defence and the security of this Country. They have allways been the party that would spend big bucks on their Social programs and let the defence of our Country left wide open for any or all who wish to bring us down.It started as far back as the Civil War and progressed thru WWII,Korea,Vietnam, they did not think that we should have been involved in the Middle East I.E Desert Storm, now that we are past 9/11 they think that if they don't address Terrorism that it will go away. The Liberal Left must think that if we had not responded to 9/11 that we would be safer and Terrorism would be a middle east problem, How blind can you get to reality and that Islamic Radicals and Terrorism was growing throughout the world, the U.S included.Weather we should be in Afghanistan or Iraq dose not matter because we are there and our troops need support in Defence for themselfs and against the terrorists, so its a No-Brainer unless they are blind to reality, which it is no suprise is it.Support our young troops.

Dhimmicrats!
Geez, go figure that they're weak on foreign terrorism. The only thing that they're GOOD AT is killing Americans. After all, LBJ killed about 50,000 GI's before the libs finally lost their nerve and cut and ran from Vietnam...defunding them like they want to do Iraq. (Hey! It worked once right Dhimmis?)

On my blog, I have an excellent example of life under Sharia and last week, I posted an article of Libstain Congrcritter Seestak who's busy kissing Muslim butt at CAIR.

If the shoe fits Libsquirts...

Proud American
Great post on the Copperheads of the Civil War. Typical liberals past. Obviously, we had the misfortune of them reproducing themselves.

BTW, check my blog for a story on GloBULL warming idiots calling for Govvie intervention in an APRIL snowstorm.

Only a libdolt...

G-gaisford
I agree we live in relative opulence and comfort. However that does nto justify ignoring the real threat of terrorism. Tell the ~3000 in the WTC and pentagon that they have nothing to worry about.

Yes, you are right we live longer and have more. But should we not take reasonable precautions to live even longer, such as protecting ourselves from terrorists?

Just because you have air bags, do you drive recklessly and not wear seatbelts? Killing terrorists is just defensive driving for the world.

Global war on terrorism
Is Lambro suggesting we should bomb Morocco and Algeria?
These acts of terrorism must be dealt with primarily by the governments where the incidents occur.
meanwhile, we continue to give money to Pakistan and sell them high tech weapons that have nothing to do with fighting terrorists, but other nations.

The LGM Spin
LibGood(sic)Man(sic) posted, "There is no global war on terrorism."

Wow! Could have fooled me, LGM. I guess Bin Laden never declared "war" on the US and 911 was, as Rosie O'Dumbell claims, merely a Bush black op.

Well, I guess it all makes sense. The Democrats don't want to fund the war because there actually is no war. I'll bet that's good news for those family members of the dead soldiers and marines who died in the non-war. Are they now non-dead?

If they are dead, who killed them? I suppose Rosie will say that Bush, Cheney and Rove snuck out of the White House at night, took Air Force One to Baghdad, planted IED's, then flew back in time for a prayer breakfast.

You can see the brilliance of Nancy Pelosi. Why should the US spend money on something that doesn't exist?

Thanks, LGM, for your clarity of thought regarding the Bush conspiracy. Can you shine some light on the tri-lateral commission's latest shenanigans?

Vic: Narrow Democratic Victory?
Vic, I admire you dude. You should be given a special job by the RNC for your attempts to rally
cleary demoralized Republicans after that A** whupinn you took at midterms. Even "your leader"
Prez Bush acknowleged it as a "thumpin". But good job buddy, the rnc needs to get you a cheeleader outfit with pom-poms. I can hear you now:

GOOOOOOOOOOOO BUSH!!!

Hey Vic, the bottomline of the Dems "narrow victory is this:

Democrats control BOTH branches of Congress and the "Rubberstamp Republican" majority is kaput.

Democrats control the gavels, the committees, the money and the supeonas...

your reasoning on midterm results in only partially correct. conservatives may have stayed home, but independents didnt and they voted overwhelmingly democratic and dissatisfaction with Bush and his handling of Iraq were the primary determining factors for the results.
If you think that Iraq wont be the same for
prez election 2008, youre more delusion than I thought. Its an albatross around the republican parties neck and they know it..stay the course with bush thru 2008 on Iraq and repubs lose bigtime.

2008 Elections
I think most liberals are getting a little nervous. They may hide behind thier snarky spin and talking points, but deep down they fear November 2008.

It was clear that the 2006 mid-term elections were a referendum on the GOP handling of the WOT. Rahm Emmanual conducted a brilliant House Campaign to recruit conservative Democrats for Red State Districts. He was equally brilliant in keeping them on message. Those 22 Dems that won in Red States ran in most cases to the right of the GOP rivals. The Democratic House contenders ran on strong conservative social issues, and told the voters that they could do a better job than the incompetent Republicans. In my own district, a liberal lawyer named Joe Donnely, when asked about the future of Iraq, said there will be no cut and run if the Dems retake the House. "We are in this for the long run."

Fast forward 5 months later and Freshman Democrats in lock step have demanded we surrender, pull out, redeploy (pick your metaphore). Pelosi, Murtha, Dingell, Waxman, Rangle, et als did a complete 180 within days of taking the majority. To make matters worse, there have been no less than 6 well publicized resolutions to pull the troops out since Jan 23rd. If this wasn't enough, Pelosi made a well publicized trip to Damascus wearing a headscarf in submission to Islamic Sharia (Something that is never required by visiting diplomats. I wonder if Pelosi, who calls herself a devout Catholic covers her head during Mass?) The public display of submission to a know terrorist and a terrorist nation will not go over well with Red State voters.

At risk are 25 Red State House votes for 2008. Do not think that the RNC hasn't done internal polls. Do not think that the DNC has not done internal polls. Emmanual last week, in a desperate attempt to take the public eyes off of the recent terror events, and his own leader, wants to widen the attorney scandal investigation in the House. All the of the brilliant election work he did a year ago is literally evaporating. The Dems have run the House for only 3 months, and it is fast becoming a PR disaster for them. I remember 3 years ago, some influential Democrats warned about Peolosi's lack of leadership skills, and her tin political ear. Their worst nightmares are coming true.

Left angle
Victories of less than 1% in several elections is overwhelming? Must be a new dictionary of which I am unaware.

And controlling the gavels and committees means you have 1 more seat than the other party. Having a veto-proof majority is an overwhelming victory.

Do you have one of those? I think not.

hey war mongers...
your blood thirsty money hungry vultures put the troops into harms way without a plan and there's still no plan. so we gotta get them out! now the stays are extended to 15 mandatory months... defend that if you can... the people of iraq want the us out. and they will defeat the thanks-to-the-us-invasion al-qaeda themselves.
so lets keep the soldiers there at $30,000 per year and the black water shadow army mercinaries at $100,000 per year and bankrupt this country and really make it ugly.

>If they are dead, who killed them?<

Some died at the hands of foreign jihadists, who can honestly be called terrorists, but the vast majority have been killed by indigenous Iraqis.

Now, if the shoe were on the other foot and the Iraqi military invaded, conquered and occupied the United States, would you be a terrorist if you resisted the occupation?

The problem is using the word terrorism in a generic way, which obfuscates any logical and attainable military conclusion.

andrews the congressional bottom line
Democrats are the MAJORITY

Republicans are the MINORITY

so youre telling me repubs/cons are happy about that? get real.

Public display of submission
>The public display of submission to a know terrorist and a terrorist nation will not go over well with Red State voters.<

It worked for Bush when he held hands with the Saudi prince.

I see you are in the same lala land as DA, therefore ya'll probably went to the same posting at Kos to get your talking points. I also see that you have no idea what an independent is. By the standard political definition I am an independent because I am not registered in iether of the two major political parties. I am however a self-declared conservative.

But all of that is OK. I hope that you an DA both keep to what has so far been your strategy for the Democrap Party. If you do and the Repubs get back the Conservatives ya'll will be relegated to the dustbin of history.

liberalgoodman
You had better lay off the "Boggle" whatever the he11 that is! YOUR comments alone have more misrepresentation and distortion of facts than all the posters combined! Typical Moonbat droppings!

Change of tactics
So, if get Lambro's column right, he is suggesting that because our policies in the past have created more terrorists than destroyed (eg- invading Iraq, invading Afghanistan, etc), then we should bump up these policies rather than change them. Smart. Real smart.

Here's a counter-example. When those British sailors were being held by Iran, there were voices all over TH who wanted Britain to invade. What would that have accomplished?

Guess what? Britain didn't invade. And everyone came off happy and with no loss of face. What's so bad about that?

Vic: I deal with REALITY.
read your own post, then mine, whose are are closer to reality and whose are not?

I'd say clearly it's YOU that is in lala land.

you need to go check the midterm election results. independents were the determining voter block and the voted overwhelmingly for democrats at midterms.

THATS A FACT JACK!! LOL

Andrewe
What world are you living in?

If you think the invasion of Iraq and Afghanistan created terrorists, well here is some info:

Hamas and Hezbollah have been waging a terror war for over 20 years, and not just in Lebanon and Isreal. In 1995, Hezbollah terrorists blew up a Jewish civic center killing over 100. Hezbollah murdered 250 Marines in 1983. The Marines crimes? They occupied a barracks at the airfield in Beruit.

Hezbollah murderd 35 Airmen in Daharan in 1996. Hamas terrorists murdered the CIA station chief in Beruit in 1985. Al Quaida terrorists blew up 2 embassies in East Africa in 2000, and ran a gunboat into a Navy vessel refueling in Yeman. Al Quaida terrorists have killed over 10,000 Filipinos since 1982, and over 5,000 Thais since 1989. Al Quaida terrorists attempted to destroy the WTC in 1993, and Al Quaida terrorists murdered over 100 tourists in Egypt in 1997.

Andrewe, go back to sleep, We will wake you when the bombs start flying over here. Personally, I don't think you will care one bit. Your first reaction will be to wave your hands in a French Salute.

Celebrate while you can. As a matter of fact, many in the GOP secretly are pulling for Pelosi; she is a gift that keeps on giving. Unfortuantely her leadership is killing GIs. Don't think for one moment, that the so called Independents are those in fly-over country haven't caught on the the Democratic Majority. To wit, this is what that majority has accomplished in 3 short months:

Over 12 resolutions to pull out of Iraq (Counting both Houses).

A call to understand our misunderstood friends in Damascus and Terhan (the guys supplying weapons to the Iraqi terrorists).

The Speaker publically debased herself in front of a known international terrorist/murderer by covering her head in his presence.

The Majorty has launched no less than 75 investigations into the Bush Administration

The Majority has voted 3 times to allow 23 million voters fall under the Alternative Minimum Tax beginning next year.

The Majority has shelved thier promise to remove earmarks from the budget process (This was actually the first order of buisness on 24 Jan 2007).

The Majority is threatening a constitutional crisis over the fireing of 8 US Attornies. The Executive is an equal with Congress. Congress cannot supeona anything from the WH concerning a beef they have with the DOJ.

The Majorty has threatened to remove several powers from the Commander in Chief regarding his ability to lead the military.

Pelosi and Reid have both scaled back the number of days Congress will remain in session. It is the lowest in modern history.

This is not what the voters had in mind when they voted the Democratis in the majority. Enjoy it while you can. The Democrats cannot help themselves. They haven't an agenda, nor do they have a clue what they will do next other than threaten investigations and hurl insults.

Conservatives Needed for GOP
No more RINOs please, and let's get rid of the ones we've got, off to a happy retirement.

The left clearly does not want us to be victorious over the terrorists. They have thwarted the efforts of our troops causing casualties they claim to be upset about.

What is it with these leftists who live the capitalist lifestyle here in really grand fashion! Do they really think they get to keep all their goodies when they get the "utopia" they are trying to bring our way? Maybe they think if there were millions less of us, they'd get their green earth or whatever it is they are looking for.

I'm all for letting them continue to enjoy themselves, just keep 'em out of politics, out of any decision making whatsoever.

Peace to us all.

A Lesson In Politics
Politics is, and always has been, a game of give and take.

I'm currently reading a biography of Washington. During Washington's first term there were two huge stinks. One was Hamilton's position on the Assumption of the Debt. The other was home of the nation's capitol.

The Federalists, or conservatives, were for a strong central government, whereas the liberals were for strong State governments. Everyone was lobbying hard for the Capitol to be in their State. Historians have no written record, but most indications are that Washington traded 5 liberal votes in favor of Washington D.C. in exchange for 5 liberals voting for assumption.

Republicans and conservatives today suffer from understanding politics.

I just got back from traveling and met with a couple of Aussies and Canucks. NATO has stepped up to play a major role in Afghanistan and Canadian and Australian troops are there. WEll, guess what. The Canadian and Australian governments are both in deep doo doo with their voters because Canadians and Australian people are both very unhappy with Afghan involvement.

It's hard to claim a "global" war when you are the only country who believes it. Reagan and Bush Sr. understood world politics and understood that politics means compromise. Bush Sr. did not overthrow Saddam in part because "allies" in the middle east didn't want it.

Aesop once said, "Be careful what you wish for, you just might get it." Conservative media in the likes of Hugh Hewitt, Rush Limbaugh and Fox News have wished to make every position either conservative or liberal. There is no more "American" position in right wing media. All conservative positions are good. All liberal positions are bad. No good conservative will broker with a liberal or compromise a conservative position. Rush Limbaugh and the rest pretty much paint the world of American politics as conservative politics, black and white. And f**k the world. Conservatives don't need the U.N. or any other country.

Well, that's where we are today. Bush has blown off the world, treats the U.N. as nothing more than knee-biters, and unlike Reagan who use to meet daily with Tip O'Neil, has nothing to say to any Democrat, whatsoever. Bush treats politics as black and white. Something Talk Radio wants. Do not barter with the enemy, either Democrat or French. So Bush does neither.

Republicans and conservatives have the quintesstial conservative politician. Bush does not engage in politics with his opponents. It is either "my way or the highway".

The only dispute with Bush's desirability are the actual positions he takes. But its not his fault his positions are sometimes at odds because Republicans in reality have not one clear position on what the conservative position in.

So, Bush is exactly the ideal Rush Limbaugh politico. He's black-and-white, do not talk and do not negogiate with political opponents.

To see the end result of this modern politician, one simply has to compare the politics of Reagan and Thatcher with Bush and Blair. Reagan and Thatcher were strong allies. So were Bush and Blair. Reagan was a politician, Bush is not, and the net effect is on display for all to see.

Conservatives today believe they can rule the world without compromise, without politics. The politics of conservatives can be summed up as "my way or the highway" with conservative politics revolving around defining the highway and electing who best can build it.

Here is how bad it is. A true savvy politician would have been able to work Bush's immigration stance to his benefit. Rather than putting forth the immigration stances Bush does as his own idea, he could have gone into "negotiations" with the Democrats and came out with some "compromise" that he won some conservative political battle with the Democrats in exchange for immigration compromise.

But Bush is politically too stupid to take advantage of such opportunities. Or is he? Or perhaps Bush realizes that in today's conservative world of politics, compromise with Democrats is a worse political move than championing some liberal position as conservative.

You people should not be crying about conservative politics today. You asked for black-and-white, "my way or the highway" politicians and you have them. They do not work with Democrats or play with the rest of the world.

The first step to political recovery is to quit bashing liberals as the mainstay. Until this year, the Senate has voted with 90 or more votes consistently to approve the Iraq war budget?

Has any conservative other than me pointed that out? No, conservatives are pointing out that Democrats cut the war budget in Vietnam. Which, if one looks it up, only happened once and only happened AFTER the troops left Vietnam.

The U.S. cannot afford to wage and cannot win the global war on terror all by itself. The fact that the *citizens* of Canada and Australia are very much against their respective country's tiny involvement in Afghanistan ought to be a wakeup call that the world is not ready to fight just yet a "global" war on terror.

Conservatives today have painted themselves in a very small corner. They do not play with their fellow Americans, the liberals, and they do not play with any other country. In fact, it is fair to say that in politics the refuse to compromise or cooperate with either, otherwise known as playing politics. Bush is not a politician and the conservatives in that regard got their dream President.

So the roughly 50 million conservative Americans are going to wage the GWT and win? Rule the world? No wonder Rush calls himself just an entertainer. Even he knows that the pictures he political paints are crazy.

I do not deny the Dems are the current majority party. My point is, for all your crowing, they do not have a veto-proof or fillibuster proof majority, and they won by razor thin margins in several districts, many times by running right, or focusing on local rather than national issues.

For you to call this slight majority won by tiny margins, mostly by playing at being more right than they really are, is an outright lie. the dems won because the republicans dropepd the ball, not because the public heartily endorses the party of pork, welfare, surrender, bribery, and terrorism.

Sorry, but it is the truth.

JP: youre misguided
The only people complaining about Speaker Pelosi
are far right wing republicans/cons. dems are applauding her efforts as she is following the mandate of those who voted to turn the U.S. congres over to Democrats.

You repubs seem to be shellshocked and clearly in denial about the results of midterms. The majority of americans want the Iraq war ENDED ASAP. The majority disapproves of President Bush and his handling of Iraq.

Yet Bush arrogantly and stubbornly escalates the Iraq war thru his "surge" policy in search of his so called "victory" in Iraq. Whats really embarrassing is that the with the U.S. being the worlds "superpower" as repubs/cons like to brag, with the most modern weaponry and intelligence in history as repubs/cons like to brag, Bush and company cant defeat a ragtag bunch of insurgents
armed with antiquated weapons and people bomds.

As for what the dems are doing in the majority, what did you expect? for them to govern like republicans? get real...as for investigations I
suggest you check the number and amount of money repubs spent investigating former president clinton..there is no comparison.

More blaa blaa propaganda & the obvious
3,300 dead, 25,000 wounded (seriously? 10,000), Current cost 1/2 trillion (1 trillion if we get out today).

LET ME ASK YOU ALL: What COULD we do with say about 10,000 or 15,000 men, the best America has (which we have lost forever or disabled) and 1 trillion dollars in the world wide fight against terrorism? A lot and we would be more secure may be.

Its the GOP that releases the slogans and talking points that are repeated in unison and perfect harmony like a cross between lemmings and mocking birds. (Any party that is in lock-step, with no internal disagreement scares me.) Stop being a liar about what the Dems said or want. YOU DON'T HAVE A CLUE.

Talking is GOOD. You can be petty and a whinny cry baby about Pelosi and Reid and call them traitors who should be arrested and convicted, but some say Bush is a war criminal. Funny, the Bush great plan? Call everyone EVIL, don't talk to them, invade and occupy adjacent countries, tell them, BRING IT ON, We will bomb you to the stone-ages. THAT IS A GREAT PLAN. Than you wounder why they are fighting us? Where did the hijackers come from? Saudi Arabia and trained in Afghanistan. We did not attack Saudi because they sell us oil.

Little known FACT, five of the hijackers where trained by the US military. No not the conspiracy theory. The U.S. has a long-standing agreement with Saudi to train pilots for its National Guard. Candidates are trained in air combat on several Army and Navy bases. Training is paid for by Saudi Arabia. We all know other hijackers received civilian flight training in the US. Plus after Bush took office, a early 1991 report, "Bin Laden determined to attack inside the U.S.", outlined how al qaeda was trying to hijack airliners, traveling in and out of the US and use of explosives. We where asleep at the switch, and Bush is the most vacationed and exercised president in history.

But as we know and Donald Lambro will tell you its all the Democrats fault, Blame them, its the way to go.

************************************************
Donald Lambro=DL

DL: "whatever divisions there may be in our electorate over the war, a majority of voters want their government to stake out strong, unequivocal positions on national security."

(No division? That is a lie. 70% of the electorate wants to start an orderly voluntary, not surrender, reduction in troops. Do you all sit around knowing the majority of American is against the war, so you get together and say, lets lie about it? You equate national security with Iraq, another lie. "Fight them there or fight them here", is pure propaganda bull. Sad part is a lot of mindless conservatives believe everything they are told by the right wing media.)

DL: "Al Qaeda's new wing in North Africa bombed the prime minister's office in Algeria"

(Algeria is where the danger is, not Iraq? Duuh you think? NO KIDDING, YOU ARE SO SMART. I had a Jordanan waiter TELL ME THIS LAST MONTH. He is muslim. We where talking about world, Easter, religion and terrorism. He said Algeria, North Africa is where the problem is. Duuh! The Dems did not say there is no terrorism in other parts of the world. THEY ARE THE ONES THAT SAID IT. Its the GOP that is saying Iraq is sooooooooo important we must stay there forever, at expense of being able to fight in any other country. We are so bogged down in Iraq we are unable to respond. We need to redeploy. But Bush has ruined and worn down the military to where its dis-functional, and is only running it into the ground more. I AM ALL FOR WAR, WAR IS GREAT. However Bush has done this incompetently and half hearted from the start. We NEEDED 300,000 to 400,000 troops. He sent less than 1/3rd. We needed to start the draft again. We needed to go to war, not do this half way thing. Bush is the SLOW BLEED President. The only reason we left Afghanistan in a hurry was NO OIL. The only reason we don't go into North Africa is....OIL.)

DL: "All of this makes the Democrats' arguments of the past about the nature of the terrorist threat seem even more ridiculous now than it seemed back then. Last year, and well into this year, Democratic leaders argued that we should be focusing on only one country -- Afghanistan."

(Donald Lambro, what kind of idiot propaganda are you spewing. The FACT is Afghanistan is where we need to be and STAY, BUT NOT THE ONLY PLACE. The Dems did not say that. You are a liar. They did not say that is the only place we ever will need to be. THIS LIE ABOUT HOW CLUELESS DEMS ARE IS PROPAGANDA BULL. The fact is we did not hit Afghanistan fast enough, hard enough and long enough. Bush pulled us out too fast to go to IRAQ, A MAJOR MAJOR MAJOR MAJOR MISTAKE! DEAL WITH THAT.)

DL: "But it turns out that Iraq is now a central breeding ground for Al Qaeda, as are the neighboring countries of Iran and Syria, which has been arming, training and financing the terrorists."

Duuh, you think? You are so smart. What kind of obvious things can you say next and claim the Dems don't know. WHO MADE IRAQ A CENTRAL BREEDING GROUND OR KILL FIELD? Bush and his war of desire and choice has made Iraq a one stop killing stop, a convenient place to kill Americans in the mid east. That is OK, spilled milk and all, but it takes some balls to blame the Dems for some how being out of touch or incompetent.

DL: "Iran was helping the terrorists in Iraq, House Speaker Pelosi and Senate Democratic Leader Harry Reid were on Capitol Hill saying they had no problem with lawmakers traveling to Iran and talking with their leaders."

Yea HOW DARE THEY TALK. They are traitors and should be arrested and convicted. Some say Bush is a war criminal, but its Pelosi and Reid that are the problem. Funny. Great plan. Call everyone EVIL, don't talk to them, invade and occupy adjacent countries, tell them, BRING IT ON, We will bomb you to the stone-ages. THAT IS A GREAT PLAN.

DL: "Such is the mind-set of the present Democratic leadership in the midst of the global spread of terrorism that threatens all of us, now more than ever."

Yea the Dems are a threat, and all this time I thought it was radical Islamic jihadist, terrorist, al qaeda, Iran, Syria, North Korea. And all this times the Dems where the enemy.

You fools forget that pulling out if Iraq does not mean giving up, hiding, surrendering or cut-N-running, as you liars say the Dems want. That is a stupid thing to say. Are you in high school. Some one disagrees and you make up some ridiculous scenario and say OH YEA YOU WANT TO DO THAT! No listen and shut up for once. Bush and the conservatives GRAND PLAN is to stay bogged down in Iraq and keep doing the same thing (but calling it another TALKING POINT name, like SURGE). This is all propaganda and ineffective. ITS ALL ABOUT - CONSERVATIVES, ARE SO SMART, STRONG, WE KNOW WHAT TO DO, WE KNOW HOW TO FIGHT THE WAR ON TERRORISM. THE DEMS ARE WEAK. RIGHT. WELL SO FAR YOU HAVE SCREWED IT UP BIG TIME. TIME FOR SOME INTELLIGENCE AND NOT "STAY THE COURSE".

The only reason for stay the course and just repeat ITS GETTING BETTER again or "the insurgency in the final throws", is for the PRIDE OF BUSH and FUTURE POLITICAL POWER OF THE GOP. Bush can't deal with the idea he is a failure.

Deal with it; the conservative RULE for 6 YEARS HAS BEEN A COMPLETE FAILURE, WHICH HAS EMBARRASSED THE GOP AND AMERICA WORLD WIDE. THE RESPONSIBILITY FALLS ON BUSH AND THE GOP CONGRESS AND SENATE 2000-2006. I AM AS SAD AS ANYONE ABOUT THAT. I TAKE NO JOY IN THAT. ITS OVER AND DONE. NOW WE NEED TO PUT THIS BEHIND UP. ITS NOT ABOUT THE WAR ON terrorism

WANTING TO WIN AND REALITY ARE TWO DIFFERENT THINGS. ADMITTING THE FAILURE IS NOT THE SAME AS WANTING TO LOSE. WE LOST, WE NEED TO GET READY FOR THE NEXT GAME AND THE REST OF THE SESSION. Stop the madness. Stop being a liar about what the Dems said or want. YOU DON'T HAVE A CLUE. In fact Bush and the GOP are LOST. All they are doing is what they do best, play politics. ITS NOT THE TIME FOR POLITICS. It is time for serious people to solve problems. We need to follow the Iraq Study Group (Baker, etal). We need to LOOK at leaving and start the stabilization plan. I AM FOR THE SURGE, but as a prelude to getting out, not staying.

Andrews: a question for you
yes the dems dont have a "super majority" just as repubs didnt when they were the majority but I'll ask you this:

If democrats were able to "obstruct" much of President Bush's and the republicans agenda while in the minority what do you think is gonna happen now with them in the majority?

that's what I'm trying to get thru your head.
You repubs dont have the power to "rubberstamp" or block investigationS, or send conservative activist judges passed thru CONGRESS anymore.

GunnyG
Now you and I both KNOW that the Clintonistas will CLAIM they provided this French intelligence to the incoming administration.

Like the Rose law firm billing records, some document will "show up" backing up this claim.

And the usual liberal suspects on this thread will swallow it -- hook, line & sinker.

They can't help themselves... it is the "progressive" disease of liberalism.

Cheers, Gunns.

Left angle
Don't ahve the power to "obstruct"? You guys did it as a minority, so why can't the republicans?

Ever hear of a fillibuster? That WAS my point. You don't have the ability to force investigations down the public's throat, as you can't override a fillibuster. You still need to get some turncoat republicans to go along, or you can't do it.

Of course, with the weak kneed republicans we have now, it doesn't matter.

But, best of all, I wish you luck. Have all the needless, partisan, divisive investigations you want. it will just let the public see that you are the party more intent on "settling scores" and grabbing power, all the while doling out the pork, than defending America.

Will do wonders for your party come 2008.

Left Angle
And why are you worried about "conservative activist judges"? Won't president Pelosi be nominating the judges now, the same way she controls foreign policy?
Oh, that's right! SHE'S NOT THE PRESIDENT.

I'd like to congratulate you on turning off your "CAPS LOCK" key. I guess some Libs CAN be taught!

But I note your last post has absolutely NOTHING to do with the substance of this column...

Sheeesh!!!!

My post was a sarcastic rebuttal regarding the idiocy of re-naming the Global War on Terror.

As Donald Lambro asked, "If this is not a global war on the civilized world, what else would you call it?"

Exactly my point! What would you call it, Utah? An "unfortunate incident caused by Bush's foreign policy"? How about "Bush's War?" I'll bet you'd like THAT one!

I simply can't believe you are arguing over what name to call this war instead of how to win it. Typical you leftists: change the premise of the debate in mid-argument. My disgust at you so-called liberals is only exceeded by my hatred for your anti-American diatribes.

You claim that most deaths in Iraq are caused by "indigenous Iraqis". Since no casualtiy figures are available for that, why are you lying? DailyKos made-up figures don't count.

You are typical of the liberal BS artists who post here. Our men and women who get killed and wounded deserve more respect. I had to put up with your liberal BS in Vietnam and now I see the same BS regarding our guys fighting the IslamoFascists in the GWOT.

You simply can't imagine my hatred for you lying liberal pukes.

Correction
The democrats are not only digging themselves into a hole. If this were true, I wouldn't worry one bit. Instead they are digging all of us into a hole and placing our military at risk.

I must add that what we are dealing with in the democrat leadership in the Congress is typical of the cowards they are. As our military is engaged in a life and death struggle, they concern themselves with what we are going to name the conflict, doing their best to soften the language and paint their country into a corner. President Bush made it clear in his September 2001 speech to the nation when he proclaimed this fight to be a fight against terrorists, those nations who fund terrorism and those nations who provide safe harbor to terrorists. Regardless of any preferred name that Harry Reid or Nancy Pelosi may prefer, my definition includes Iraq, Iran and Syria within the scope of nations that we must deal with. It isn't that I like this. It is what we are faced with and it is time the Harry Reids, Nancy Pelosi's and John Kerry's of this nation determine whose side they are on.

Conservative Ron
"it is time the Harry Reids, Nancy Pelosi's and John Kerry's of this nation determine whose side they are on."

They already have decided. It is time they admit that the side they are on is not that of the American people.

something like that...

Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi and company are on the side they've always been on. They are on the side of getting and retaining power at any cost. They aren't technically on either side in the war. The dems are on the side of perceived political advantage. Whatever side of the war that lands them on doesn't matter to them.

so when did that frankfurt hijacking actually happen? oh yeah, NEVER... and clinton passed all the info he could to bush which they all summarily ignored (bin laden determined to attack the us) and allowed 9/11 to happen on BUSH'S WATCH or BUSH'S NON-WATCH or whatever... so go ahead and blame clinton all you want, i do believe it was bush as pres that 9/11 happened.

It looks like the moonbats have cut&pasted everything they could find at Kos & Huf and run amuck inventing statistics again.

However you spin Democrat indiference to the safety of American troops, you can be sure it encourages young Muslims to join the Terrorists and be part of the team to conquer America.
Democrat apathy is helping to kill America's sons & daughters, just as surely as they trigger the bombs themselves.
Democrats are helping the ememy recruit while they deny arms & supplies to our own troops.

75% of the American people approve of this?
I think that might be a false estimate.

How Do Dems Get Elected???
A salute to Don Lambro for an excellent column. You may wonder at times, how do the Democrats who are in denial about terror and other things get elected. I tackle that question all this week in my own site, which you can reach by clicking on my name above. I hope you'll come there and, if you wish, leave your comments.

Here's an excerpt from today about how Dems get elected in PA:

About 2:30 p.m. EDT I'll post another piece on Congressman Jason Altmire, who represents the 4th congressional district (western Pa). Here's an excerpt from the piece that will appear on my site: http://www.camp2008victory.townhall.com.

If you’re a Democratic candidate statewide or in a district outside Philadelphia and Pittsburgh, how do you get elected? You run on the proposition that you’re in favor of the rights of the unborn, gun owners, and labor unions. You’ll also say regularly that you “support the troops,” although you’ll be vague about how you can do so without supporting their mission. You’ll talk about the need for fiscal restraint, but that won’t generally apply to “special" projects benefiting either your district or that of a political ally. In most cases, you’ll proudly note that you’re a Christian, usually a Roman Catholic (like Congressman Jason Altmire, Senator Bob Casey, and even yours truly). You’ll demonstrate regularly that you’re a big fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers (like Altmire) or the Philadelphia Eagles (like Governor Ed Rendell). When you cast a vote in Congress that your constituents might not like, you’ll remain silent about your reasoning on the subject. You’ll maintain extremely close relations with Nancy Pelosi and the rest of the Party’s liberal leadership, and you’ll vote with them on critical issues. In cases where your vote is not needed, they'll let you cast a vote that appears to be “conservative.” You will look at your elected office as a lifetime position, and you will do everything necessary to retain it. During your many years in Congress, you'll never do anything to offend John Murtha, who has a long memory. You will have long and relatively happy life. Is this a caricature? No, it's very reliable advice on career planning.

More to come . . .

ok, good! but gunny,
so you still haven't addressed my previous 2 or 3 posts. which i wont repeat since you ignore them and hide in your eho chamber anyway... i'm calling you out here, gunny!

and i hope hillary DOESN'T win, but i still think she will.

Do you read anything or just ad hominem attack the messenger like most libretards do?

FYI, terrorists take months and years to plan event depending on their scale. Here is their planing cycle. Try reading it nitwit.

That is politics as you see it. Opinion and nothing more. The actuality is Bush has compromised way too much. Hence all of the pork that has escaped his veto pen. You assume that all agree with conservative talk radio. Just because we listen does not mean that we agree. Furthermore, if you did listen you would know Bush gets criticized constantly. The real art of politics is not compromise. It is knowing WHEN to compromise. Bush left Saddam in power because he made a bad deal with the UN. If you recall he has been resoundingly criticized ever since then and lost his second term election. So what if Tip and Reagan met everyday??? Different world then in case you hadn't noticed. It is not in the best interest of the Dems to meet with Bush everyday. It will be seen by their supporters as capitualation and by the rest as two faced liars we know they are. The media would then no longer be able to cover them then. So you obviously do not know politics as well as you claim let alone strategy. Get back to the school room. Also guess what??? Federalists won the strong central government argument in that little war known as the Civil War. Without a strong central government you have fifty countries and no states and chaos or genius haven't you figured that out yet????

Nice rant
>You simply can't imagine my hatred for you lying liberal pukes.<

You talkin to me? I'm a Ron Paul libertarian. Now, what are you but a foul-mouthed whiner?

mishaz
Considering that you have yet to refute anything I've posted, I think that your tinfoil hat is on extra tight.

Did you happen to READ the report that French Intel posted? Did you happen to note that the Afghan leder had guys infiltrated into the Taliban, who supported A.Q., and send the intel back.

Lastly moonbat, Osama Bin Laden himself calls the cut and run in Somalia as the starting point that he could hit us. Guess what, your hero pulled that Dhimmicrat Maneuver.

Left Angle
You surely haven't watched the polls - I don't balme you, the MSM and DNC are pretty mum on them. Internal polling done by the DNC shows a 25% increase in NEGATIVES for Congress. This increase is since Nov 2006, at a time when Congressional popularity was at its lowest since 1976. The Nov 2006 poll was a reflection of voter disgust with the GOP.

These negatives concerned three things: keeping election promises through legislation, spending, and the Iraq conflict. These were 3 areas where the Democrats hammered the GOP in 2006. Yet, it is now 3 months into this Congress and the polls indicate that voter disapproval is even worse.

You blissfully ignore that 22 of the Democratic House pick ups occured in Red States that voted GOP since 1988. To keep these districts in Democratic hands, the Democratic party must:

1)Not offend these socially conservative voters (For instance,Going to Damascus and submissively presenting oneself to a terrorist that is killing US servicemen).

2)At least attempt to keep a few of your election promises (not raise taxes. The new AMT kicks in next year, which will affect 23 million households).

3)Do not Cut and Run. Not one of the 22 new Freshmen in the new House Majority ran on Cut and Run.

4)At least show a little deferrence to the President as Commander in Chief. Murtha, Reid, Pelosi, Lantos, and Durbin can pontificate and obstruct all they wish, but again Red State voters who gave this party a chance in 2006 will regret they did so.

I don't think anyone in the DNC realizes that Bush will not be on the ballot in 2008. The Democratic Majority will be; they will be judged harshly in the Red States if they keep this course.

My prediction, the Dems will lose at least 25 seats in 2008- whatver gains they made in 2006 will be gone.

who's defending clinton?
was i defending clinton? no... you brought him up to deflect... he didnt' do enough, and now bush is in charge and made it worse. you have a real knack of avoiding the my questions. and your terrorist attack list stops at december 2000. . . because no terror attacks happened after that.

oh and by the way, bin laden was so sad bush invaded iraq... nope BONUS FOR AL QUEDA. it is bin ladens wet dream for the us to keep attacking arab nations and to bankrupt the us military.

i will assume you will bring up clinton again and again avoid my topics alltogether. exit echo chamber, left.

Do you really have the patience to refute that same silly Lib fiction every day or are you just playing with them like the revolving ducks in a shooting gallery?

mizhas
You don't post anything of substance.
Your incoherent raving is nothing but alphabet soup.

Tell me how you come to think 75% of Americans support Pelosi's butt kissing the enemy?

You would not just invent that 75% figure would you?
That would make you a liar if you did.
Where did the 75% of Americans figure come from?

OK MAYBE 70%
IT'S COMMON KNOWLEDGE.... MERCINARIES? ARE YOU SAYING THERE ARE NONE IN IRAQ?

mishaz
You're boring and stupid. A lethal combination.

So frigging what, there's mercenaries there.

WOW! FYI, there are mercenaries patrolling oil lines in Latin and South America, I know a few of them from the Corps. Big whoop.

The AVG in WW2 was a merceanary outfit getting paid by the Nationalist Chinese to fight the Japanese, with the nod from The Great Socialist, FDR.

The CIA hired "free-lancers" for a few decades as well. The FBI hires contractors to perform surveillance.

Again...so fricking what?

SO WHAT, HUH
so screw our troops, right? typical moral high-grounder. thanks for proving my point. PIG!

JP: again youre misguided..
As long as Republicans continue to "stay the course" with Bush on Iraq it will continue to be an albatross around repubs necks. all the dems have to do is follow the same strategies at midterms by tying congressional repubs to bush's iraq policies on Iraq and its a done deal.

my prediction dems maintain control of Congress and win the white house...

My advice to repubs JP?

KEEP UP THE CUT & RUN RHETORIC.. STAY THE COURSE!!!LOL

Why the name calling mizhas?
You Communists usually resort to name calling when you have been beaten!

On the subject of name calling;
If you can't back up your claim that %75 of Americans approve of Pelosi crawling on her knees to kiss assad's butt then it makes you a LIAR!

Hey hosekuervo
Since when is foreign policy done by polling people, most of whom couln't find Iraq on the map?

My Opine: Get Real...
The only people complaining about Speaker Pelosi
far right wing repubs/cons who are obviously upset and resent that a democrat is Speaker of the House. No only that she's a Democratic Woman..how dare she...

you know you repubs/cons have a problem with strong, intelligent and assertive women anyway,
mysogynist that you are...you know the repub line on women has always been:

"keep em barefoot, pregnant, subserviant and in the kitchen" lmao

I will ask this of you, another libdrool: Do you even know any Christians? Can you tell me how it is that you can compare the Islamofacists, who are cutting off the heads of infidels and blowing them up with suicide bombs, with Christians. And please don't tell me about the Crusades 700 years ago (which was called to repel the Moors {Isalmists}) or some abortion clininc bombing (more Muslim bomnbings in a week than all abortion colinic bombings)a decade or more ago. Do you know anything at all about the teachings of Christ?

jp: response
No bush isnt running in 2006, but will hand off
his policies to whoever the republican nominee will be and again, it will be an albatross around his neck, whoever it is...

speaking of polls, look what's happening to Bush's most staunch supporter on Iraq, Sen. McCain..he's sinking like the Titanic.

GunnyG
Hey regarding your comment about libtards reproducing themselves: remember no matter what happens and no matter how much control they get, they are aborting themselves more than they are reproducing so we will soon out number them anyway.

sloo: I dout that.
pelosi's trip was authorized by Congress as a
"fact finding mission" therefore she broke no laws. "Fact finding missions" by congressional members require no presidential authorization..
if you throw the book at pelosi, throw it at the repub congressment who visited Syria before and after Pelosi and were highly critical of bush's policies toward them.

Wrong
>If anyone would have come close to what Pelosi did during the Clinton years. BUBBA would throw him or her in jail enforcing the Logan Act.<

Gingrich and Boehner did exactly the same thing with China.

Dems send our troops to die for nothing
I am a Republican who believes that Iraq is not the war, but is only the battlefield. I believe that our brave troops are doing good for the entire free world while in Iraq. I believe the sacrifice of our troops is in the noblest cause there is. I believe that their service in Iraq shows patriotism of the highest order. That is why I think Congress should fund our troops with no restrictions at all.

If Democrats do not beleive our troops are there doing good for our country and the free world- then they MUST not use our young men and women for cannon fodder for even one more day solely to get votes for their surrenderist defeatist party! How can they live with themselves?!!

All great posts
Now, seems as if the author of this piece did not get the memo that the term "global war on terror" is now prohibited per the ruling dems, led by queen nance.
We need to all wake up and see what is going on in this country. The powers that be in the Republican party better hear what we are saying. If not, things will only get worse.
Wonder what term we can use?

apoplectic & andrews
With regard to Reid, Pelosi, Kerry, et al picking whose side they are on, I wish I could say that I didn't agree with you but unfortunately I have to agree that what you both say is correct. Wouldn't it be nice if there were Americans still in control of the democrat party? I think back to Scoop Jackson, Sam Nunn, Harry Truman. At one time the democrat party cared about the nation first and their politics afterwards.

Every IslamoNazi group in the World has sent troops to Iraq. That is the main battlefield they think will decide the fate of Radical Islam.
They arrive in Syria by plane every day.
Prisoners processed through GITMO and released to their native country have gone right back to Iraq and been recaptured or killed.

Some of the prisoners in GITMO are so dangerous they can't be released because their nation of origin refuses to take them back!

Conservative Ron
They still had one democrat with integrity left, up until the last election. The good news though is if Iraq does end up succeeding, it will not only deliver a serious blow to radical islam, but will now deliver a serious blow to those democrats as well. Could be a 2 for 1 special.

No exec. authority
Pelosi has no exec. authority to "negotiate" among nations, to prompt "peace" talks between nations, or carry any foreign policy Congress may think it has dreamed up. Congree has also very limited powers even of investigation and the issuing of their vaunted subpoenas. One reason you see some Cong. or Sen. pounding his shoe on the table a la the old USSR demanding subpoena power, and then hear they're really going to enter into "dialogue"--now a contaminated Lefty word like "compassion" and "appeasement"--and then you suddenly don't hear about whatever the issue was is the Sup. Ct. has many times denied Cong. the power to subpoena the exec. branch at will. The practice is simply unconstitutional. As far as finding out what was in Karl Rove's emails, I should remind Mrs. Clinton that she failed to respond FOR TWO YEARS to a subpoena for her Rose law firm records, and then like the worst kind of boss who makes underlings take the fall, Hill made her personal sec. be the stooge who "found" the Rose data laying right out in plain sight on the dining room table. Imagine!! The Clinton White never responded to subpoenas about Whitewater for months and sometimes years, and then went before the press to complain the investigation(s) took too long. The Dems. seem to think their narrow majority was some kind of mandate to lurch into a Left ditch with bloggers who write such wonderful political advice as hopiing Mary Cheney loses her baby and suffers great pain. Those Left drifters think they have a coup in keeping Dem. cand.'s from appearing on FOX News. It's like Imus--Lefties think they rid the world of a cons. radio show host but they didn't, because cons. think they got rid of a lib. radio show whacko. (Too bad for Imus.) The Left believes it has all the ideas, and all it needs to do is stop forums for Townhall and FOX and Imuses and the world will fall into line (again) to follow the Left's dimwit plan to nationalize us all and have the power to punish baddies like the Duke lacross team, without the detriment of being held to rules or evidence or fair trials. When they already have the answers to everything, all they have to do is shut everyone else up and the world will be a perfect Lefty oyster.

Iraqi Quicksand
I'm not a Democrat, never voted for Clinton, but this war in Iraq is an outrage. And I hold people like Lambro and other self-described conservative columnists as partly responsible. These were the ones in the media who were allied with the conspirators in the Administration, especially the Pentagon, that misled us into this quicksand. This was not a conservative policy, but a foolishly ultra-radical one.

Among the real reasons we went in, these five: (1) arrogance; (2) ignorance; (3) oil; (4) Israel; (4) profiteering.

Let's review what the Iraq War has achieved:
(1) the death of Saddam and his equally evil sons;
(2) 3000 innocent US military killed, over 20,000 injured, many maimed for life.
(3) tens of thousands of innocent Iraqis killed;
(4) alienation of most of our allies who had gone with us into Afghanistan, something we had to do after 9-11 - attack the terrorists;
(5) the USA now among the most disrespected countries in the world, with only Israel, North Korea and Iran ranking lower'
(6) Iran emboldened and more powerful;
(7) Iraq likely to become an Islamic theocracy, while before Saddam was a secularist despised by bin Laden as an infidel. Women, by the way, were treated quite well in Saddam's time - did not need to be covered and usually weren't. Christians treated well, also.
(8) Osama bin Laden still missing;
(9) USA spending billions upon billions, going deeper and deeper into debt - a trillion or more before we get out of Iraq;
(10) military-industrial complex (remember Ike's warning) pocketing billions in profit, some of it stolen;
(11) American people, united after 9-11, now in bitterly opposing camps;
(12) burden of Iraq falling on very few Americans - the rest living as usual;
(13) war now on two fronts, with the Taliban and Al Qaeda reemerging in Afghanistan while our attention has been on Iraq;
(14) Israel is in greater danger, along with our other Middle East allies. The Israeli lobby, of course, was a key advocate of the Iraq invasion -with such Pentagon heavyweights (or is that lightweights?)as Wolfowitz, Feith, Perle, Wurmser, Abrams, etc.
(15) we had been warned about WMDs and assured by many 'experts' - Chalibi, Wolfowitz, etc. - that we would be welcomed with flowers, that the war would be over very soon, that Iraqi oil would pay for the war, and other nonsense.

That's 15 - a round number so we'll leave it at that. Should we be paying any attention to those who had beat the war drums for this stupid blunder?

I don't think so.

Fire in the Theater!
Good column Donald. And I see the off-point Liberal rants are posted with great viggah!

The Democrats need the World burning so they can preach 'peace', conciliation, and retreat from any real danger. They need the electorate to vigorously complain about high taxes and big government so they can agree with them on one hand, and make matters worse on the other. And then they blame everything on the Republicans or Conservatives. Nice resume.

Proud American: I agree with your post, but why do you use the British spelling 'defence' instead of the American spelling 'defense'?

Jet Pilot: So, you think a muslim waiter is now a world affairs expert? Lots of luck. Nancy Pelosi violated her Constitutional authority [from that document she took an oath to support], and President Bush has not. Why don't you read and understand the Constitution and the Rules of the House of Representatives?

Mishaz: Are you a military expert of the Iraq situation? Or are you busy enjoying your Kos and Pork on Rye with a side of bullsh*t? Are you also an expert on what Osama Bin Ladin is and how and what he thinks? Wow! And do you really believe any of those MSM polls?

Left Angle: You write a very good Kos-influenced treatise, but the premise is wrong, the 'facts' are wrong, the conclusions are wrong---on second thought you don't write anything very well at all. By the way, is the Washington Post a 'far right wing' publication? I think not. Nor is it the only Liberal rag to attack Nancy's trip. So wise up, huh?

Ex-Tex: A-OK on your post.

In general, though, I really enjoy the posts. Liberals rant and throw out false 'facts', misrepresented 'facts', misinterpreted 'facts', and mouth foaming ala Kos. And the other posters vigorously defend the truth. It's all quite humorous in this humdrum existence called life. I do a lot of reading and research, and this is only the tip of the iceburg when it comes to these Liberals and their rants. Too bad they managed to lie their way into power in the Legislative Branch of our Government. Notice I didn't say Executive Branch. The Liberals have no power there, so they realistically should mind their Ps and Qs, and stay away from foreign affairs, war, and other operations of the said Executive Branch.

'Nuff said?

["...you know you repubs/cons have a problem with strong, intelligent and assertive women anyway, mysogynist that you are...you know the repub line on women has always been: "keep em barefoot, pregnant, subserviant and in the kitchen" lmao"]

I'm not quite sure what your last word is, but that's okay. I'm not sure where you get your preposterous ideas anyway.

Republicans and Conservatives have no problem with 'strong, intelligent, and assertive women.' There just aren't any in the Democrat Party---or the Liberal community. And like all reasonable groups, they don't care for strong, assertive idiots---male or female.

If your female heroes are Hillary Clinton, Madeleine Albright, Bella Abzug, [choose a name for here] from Hollywood, Janet Reno, and their ilk, then you're in deep psychological trouble.

By the way, it was a Republican who named the first woman to a cabinet post and the first woman [black, isn't she?] to a high security and ambassadorial position in the Administration. And it's the Democrats who want to keep the barefoot, pregnant women of the world in their kitchens and bedrooms producing more welfare fodder.

By the way, do you rant to your mirror every morning? Anyway, if you can't wise up, then at least grow up!

False "facts"?
Libs aren't the only ones guilty of such obfuscation.

Check out MyOpine's "facts" in his 5:36PM post.

>Every IslamoNazi group in the World has sent troops to Iraq.

Are there any documented captures or kills of members of the Filipino, Indonesian, Thai or Indian radical Muslim groups?

> That is the main battlefield they think will decide the fate of Radical Islam.

Who is they? It should be obvious to anyone paying attention that the radical Muslims can't agree on anything except how to blow each other up.

>They arrive in Syria by plane every day.

Fact or speculation? If fact, where is the documentation of thousands of foreign jihadists captured or killed in Iraq with fresh Syrian stamps on their passports?

>Prisoners processed through GITMO and released to their native country have gone right back to Iraq and been recaptured or killed.

I posted to Vic's post regarding my post this morning.

MyOpine
You engage in slander, or is written slander called libel? It's easy to hide behind your anonymity and make ridiculous charges. Why are some people unwilling to engage in spirited debate but insist upon trying to smear those who disagree? Could it be that they don't feel up to offering a convincing argument?

If you're a real and fair-minded Republican, I'm King Tut.

I suspect that I am a far-better patriot than you are, hopeful of keeping my nation from going down the tubes because of irresponsible blunders like the invasion of Iraq. I'm sure I voted Republican long before you did, maybe before you were born. In my earliest years I campaigned for Ike. Can you say that?

Republican leadership in those years knew enough to engage in a foreign policy based on strength and negotiation, rather than preemptive attack. Men like Ike (yes, and even Nixon, not my favorite but he did many good things)knew enough to outwit and outlive the enemy rather than wasting lives and money by attacking - and especially attacking the wrong country. Actually, I think Bush is a decent man, but those chickenhawks around him were arrogant and ignorant, and with agendas of their own, and convinced him to make the foolish mistake in March 2003. I'm sure he regrets it now, as do most Americans, but how in hell do we get out honorably?

Maybe a brilliant mind like yours has devised a fool-proof plan.

utahnotmormon/False "facts"?
Good post, except the final part. It's common knowledge from the military that several (perhaps not a huge number, thankfully) individuals who were detained as terrorists and then released came back to fight (and die) as terrorists again.
There is no need to "prove" thus with links or names. It is fact. If you know anyone who has been over in Iraq as a soldier, you know that is true.

Roy
I call it as I see it and you are simply another Communist cowering behind euphmism.

Your lack of knowledge of current affairs is well known to all.
There is no need to proclaim your ignorance.

Common Knowledge?
If there were a released Gitmo prisoner captured or killed in Iraq, it would be front page news.

It's make believe.

I don't know how to describe this!
I caught part of something on the news about a new case of the ACLU persecuting Boy Scouts of America.
I thought I would just check it out on Google, like;
GOOGLE ACLU v Boy Scouts

I did not find what I was looking for because I quit looking after page 50.
The ACLU must make a permanent carear out of persecuting The Boy Scouts of America because they won't accept NAMBLA as Scout Masters!

If anyone here does not know what NAMBLA is, take a look;
http://americansfortruth.com/issues/the-agenda-glbtq-activist-groups/national-glbq-activist-groups/national-glbtq-activist-groups/nambla/

My Knowledge
Of things you make up is rather lacking.

You just hate it when you're busted.

if you refer to my previous post
I think they proved me right

utahnotmormon
"If there were a released Gitmo prisoner captured or killed in Iraq, it would be front page news."

I don't see anything in my post indicating the release of Gitmo prisoners. Please show everybody where I said that.

There have been hundreds of individuals captured and then released by both US and British forces, who came back to fight and die.

They never got to Gitmo, as whoever interviewed them on initial capture did not view them as threats, much to the detriment of Coalition Forces.

Libs
You all are nothing but traitors, wimps, cowards, unpatriotic, unAmerican, power mad, immoral idiots. At first, you only seem to be pathetic and ridiculous but at second glance, you are dangerous to this nation. I'm amazed that you have the wherewithal to dress yourself each day.

I mentioned the release from GITMO.
Some of those from GITMO were released as far away as the Phillipeans and they came right back to Iraq.
I read about it in an article written by an officer from GITMO.

utahnotmormon is an argumentative nuisance.
I try to ignore him because he just provokes endless argument without purpose.

So what's your excuse
There is no excuse for anyone on the net to be uninformed

MyOpine
Apparently, you wouldn't know a communist from a fascist. I hope you don't see Bush & Co as conservatives. They are following the most radical policies of any administration in my lifetime. More and more Republicans understand this - people like Rep. Paul, Sen. Hagel and Pat Buchanan are good examples.

I usually don't engage in conversation with people so quick to libel others. You mirror the same temperament and attitude toward free speech as people like Hitler, Stalin and Mao. You probably think that the Illuminati secretly run America, that Pelosi is an Al Qaeda agent, and that the Holocaust never happened.

Just so you're aware, probably before you were born two of my early books exposed communism. I doubt if you would understand them. But you want to believe what you want to believe, to try to smear instead of respond, so there's no use in arguing.

I make comments here to engage others in useful dialogue, to read other viewpoints, and to express my own views. You appear to be a pitbull ready to attack viciously anyone who takes issue with your myopic, bigoted, pigheaded, amd ill-informed opinion. Maybe you should change your screen 'name' to MyOpineIsTheOnlyOneThatMatters.

Keep smiling.

You certainly seem to be a wonderully open-minded person, eager to listen respectfully to other opinions. You're a breath of fresh air. Congratulations!

Roy
CT may be a dick, but he is right.

Roy
Your stupid stream of name calling pretty much labels you.

I never said anything to support Bush but your rabid attack against him tells me more about you.

Communist is as communist does.
Cowering behind euphemism will not chang what you are.

You have been here long enough to know this site is read by all. The bad guys can't be provoked to post here any more but the troops still do.

When you post propaganda to collaborate with the enemy, do you feel proud to know you help in your own little way to prolong the war and increase casualties?

MyOpine
I'll bow out and let you take credit for the casualties in Iraq. I was against that stupid war before we launched it and hold those who pushed us into it liable for killing so many of our young men and women - and so many innocent Iraqis who had suffered enough under Saddam. A recent poll amazed me. A majority of Iraqis now feel they were better off under Saddam. And 2/3 of Americans now believe the war in Iraq wasn't worth it! So, I guess you would say most Americans have become unpatriotic and even communists? That will surprise millions of them.

I don't know what your religion is, and that is your business. I'm a Christian myself and Jesus gave us to some important principles in the Sermon on the Mount. Why don't you reread them? Luke 6:27-37 might be a good place to start.

Roy
Name your books. What are the ISBN numbers?
Or the UPC code?

Roy
Casualties are not something anyone would reasonably want to "take credit" for. However, I am more than willing to accept responsibility along with all others who believe the president made the right decision with the information he had at the time when he invaded Iraq. The alternative, as it appeared then and now is that those military casualties would and have prevented countless civilian casualties over here. Al Qaeda's history indicated that any attack they mounted for which there was no response resulted in further, more severe attacks. Given the lack of any attack on our shores since 9/11 I feel comfortable in saying one of the reasons is that we took the fight to the enemy instead of holding what Hillary recently has called "meaningful discussions." Give credit where credit is actually do, not for the casualties but from this administrations thwarting of terrorist attacks over here for the last 5 1/2 years.

No books? No certification? Roy?

I respect your question, but I'd rather remain anonymous. It permits me to write my opinions more candidly. And the tone of some of these messages suggests that there are some real nuts out there. (Just ask the students at Virginia Tech. Such a tragic day!)

Since I retired from full-time work I have had more time to sound off. But I just may give this up. Too time consuming, even addictive. I continue to write a newspapers column, magazine articles - and am working on yet another book. So I probably should cut back on the 'fun' on line and focus on more productive endeavors. Just happened to run across Townhall.com a month or so ago and find it entertaining. Most of those who contribute seem to be strongly convinced of their viewpoint. I should not complain, as I have some rather strong opinions, too.

Keep smiling.

Roy
I feel that the website shouldn't even allow comments unless those who comment have submitted an email or blog address.

You "Progressives" have absolutely NO credibility with statistics. Unless you have the source please don't quote them because your kind have a well earned reputation for inventing them as you go along.

As for wanting our soldiers out of Iraq, I am sure 100% of Americans want our soldiers out of Iraq, myself included.
However, unlike you & Paul etc., I do not want them to run home with their tail tucked between their legs.

People like you are too short sighted to see the nature of this war. This is not a high school football game where you can just pack up the players and go home.
Iraq is THE MAIN BATTLEGROUND OF A WORLD WAR ON RADICAL ISLAM!
For America to retreat would be a great disaster for all mankind.
This war will last for DECADES.
I know you don't like to hear this but the fact will not change simply because you don't like it.
Pray we don't loose this war because you will need to trade that bible for a Quoran & prayor rug if we do.
We are engaged in a war of culture.
A war to the death.
There will still be an Islam if we win but if we loose there will ONLY BE ISLAM!
Your wearing blinders like a draft horse won't change America's destiny.

A Nazi and a Communist?
You are right about me there.
I don't see 10 cents worth of diference.

MyOpine
Libs have no ability to think. Radical islam is a fact of life they will not except.

Lolo
My congratulations as you seem to be the only one to read the post of "drivebyposting." For being a driveby, it sure goes on forever.

Left Angle
Nice stereotype. All conservatives want their women uninformed, barefoot and pregnant. We don't like strong, opinionated women. Is that why ANN Coulter and MICHELLE Malkin are consistently the most supported columnists on TH?

Re Islamic Terrorism
My last message in response to Lambro and friends.

Islamic terrorism must be fought and defeated. The debate should be over how. The invasion of Iraq was a major victory for Al Qaeda and the Muslim crazies. Saddam was vile, but he was a sworn enemy of bin Laden because he was a secularist. He even waged a war against the Iranian theocracy. Why can't more of you guys get this into your brain? You obviously won't believe what you choose not to believe.

The challenge now is to win against radical Islam. Is this done by invading a Sunni-dominated Arab nation and turning millions of other Muslims into enemies? (The Sunnis are roughly 85% of Muslims.) That is/was a stupid policy. We need to divide the Muslim world, winning as many of the moderate majority as possible. Some people want to overlook that much of the war is going on within Islam - between the nuts and the decent Muslims who want to live like you and me. Remember: four Muslims nations have had women presidents or prime ministers. So to generalize about Islam is like generalizing about Christianity or Judaism. Probably the majority of Jews, certainly in this country, are not religious, do not observe the kosher laws, do not keep the Sabbath, etc. As for Christians, we know the vast chasm between rabid fundamentalists who know at least as much as God and more moderate and tolerant Protestants and Catholics who are reasonable when it comes to their faith.

I'm for winning the war by (1) attacking the right targets, as was true in Afghanistan where al Qaeda and the Taliban now have reemerged because of our preoccupation with Iraq; (2) winning over as many moderate Muslims as possible instead of alienating them through careful and wise negotiation; (3) making a just peace in the Holy Land where Israel and Palestine can exist side by side peacefully if we are a fair moderator of that conflict and not a puppet of the Israeli lobby and crowd; (4) securing our borders and ports which today are almost totally porous; (5) increasing our intelligence capability and effectiveness.

Sadly, too many - like you? (I hope not) - are helping to lose the war against terrorism by increasing the number of Muslim fanatics. You stereotype their religion which is amazingly like Judaism and Christianity. There is more about the Virgin Mary in the Koran than in the Bible. Muslims revere Adam, Moses, Isaiah, Jesus and others of the Christian tradition. Muslims, like many conservative Christians, oppose alcohol, gambling, pornography, abortion, etc. Ironically, they and fundamentalist Christians have more in common than fundamentalists Christians and liberal Christians. They object to what they see as our immoral society, much as Falwell, Robertson, Dobson, etc., are saying. Etc. etc.

I suspect you don't agree with me. In my view you toss aside the Sermon on the Mount and seem to accept perpetual killing in the name of religion - ours or theirs. Tragic when we should make every effort to win this war on terrorism without engulfing the whole world in devastation.

Since I am a senior I don't anticipate being around to see the final outcome of all this. But I do believe that God will guide us to victory if we try to follow the teachings of Christ. Or, that of Teddy R - "speak softly but carry a big stick". We need - for example - to woo Syria and even Iran away from bin Laden. Iran and Syria both assisted us after 9-11. Bin Laden is after them, too, as Syria is secularist and Iran is Shia and not Sunni. You will never understand this until you understand all these nuances.

Perhaps my faith in Christ is deeper than yours.

Meanwhile, I mourn the loss of fellow Americans in the war overseas and at Virginia Tech. Both awful tragedies.
