Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

Sit in on a corporate boardroom struggling to come to grips with the new economic climate Barack Obama has created. Do we expand? Create more jobs? Launch a new product line? Step up our marketing efforts? Ratchet up production?

But, wait a minute. The bigger our company gets, the closer we come to being "too big to fail," a "systemic risk." The nearer we are to intrusive government oversight, limits on executive pay and regulators breathing down our necks. We better watch out. We may even get taken over. Stay small. Forget the new jobs.

An investor ponders where to put his 401(k) retirement money. Should he invest in robust, growing companies? Firms with a bright future? But, be careful, they could get so big that they get taken over by the government and you lose your entire investment. Don't invest in firms that will fail, but stay away from those that will succeed, too.

Meanwhile, at the kitchen table, a middle-class family discusses their career moves. Should she go back to school to pursue a better job at higher pay? Should he put in overtime? Move up in the company?

Hey, wait a minute. Our combined income is just under $200,000 a year. If we go any higher, our tax bracket goes up, we start having Social Security withheld on our new income, we lose our current deductions for our mortgage, state and local taxes, and charitable donations.

Forget the promotion. Forget the new job.

Downtown, investors in a hedge fund are meeting to consider participating in the bank bailout scheme by buying toxic assets from failing institutions. We could make a killing. The investments could pan out big time. It's a risk, but the reward could be great.

But hold on a second. If we make tens of millions, hundreds of millions, while taxpayers are having to pay for failed banks, won't we get hit with a 90 percent tax? Won't we get to see our pictures on the front page with the president shaking an angry finger in our faces? Yes, now he wants us to invest, to help him rescue the banks, but once we do, won't he be on our case like he was on AIG's?

The Japanese have a saying that, thankfully, has no English equivalent: The highest nail gets hammered down first. Obama's perverse view of fairness threatens to create reverse incentives, militating against growth, jobs, expansion and upward mobility.

For decades, astute observers of national welfare policy warned of the perversity of the incentives that kept the poor on welfare and discouraged them from taking jobs. Employment meant that their slightly higher income would be more than offset by the loss of other benefits like food stamps, day care, rent supplements and Medicaid. Work didn't pay.

Now Obama is applying the same crazy policies to the upper end of the economic spectrum. Upward mobility is alive and well in the United States, at least until Obama took over. A study conducted in the late 1990s examined the economic fate of those consigned to the bottom 20 percent of incomes in 1980. The analysis concluded that more than four out of five had left the bottom quintile and one in five was now in the top 20 percent!

It is true that the top quintile is getting richer while the bottom is getting poorer, but the bottom is not the same people. There is, fortunately, a constant churning at the bottom as new immigrants move in and those who used to be on the bottom begin their long, thrilling upward climb to the American dream.

But Obama does not believe in individual upward mobility. He would penalize it, tax it, regulate it, inveigh against it and disincentivize it. We will be like salmon swimming upstream to mate. We will overcome the currents, the waterfall, the rocks and the predators, and will grapple our way up the stream. Then, at the top of the waterfall, will stand Obama the Bear, waiting to scoop us up and have us for dinner. The taxman cometh.

Good enough for Government Work
The dirty little secret is that it is now much more lucrative and secure to go to work for the government than for private enterprise.

In our small, coastal California county, the "County Administrator" makes $230,000/year, almost cannot be fired, and will retire and make .... $225,000/year with COLA's forever.

Many of the County employees retire after 25 or 30 years at age 50 - 55 at 90% of their salary, and the are HIRED BACK TO DO THE SAME JOB, now as consultants, while collecting their pensions.

Did I mention that the County leaders are not doing a great job ... rising taxes, crumbling streets, increasing gang violence, businesses leaving, etc.

The private sector people with more responsibility and more risk of being fired are paid ... less.

And all of this is BEFORE Obama ....

How could Americans have been so blind?
Boy, we really did it to ourselves this time. I thought the LBJ fiasco was bad, and the Jimmah Cotta disaster was worse, but this vermin who was elected on 11-04-08 makes those pitiful choices seem very minor by comparison. Let's all pray to God daily that we can survive this treasonous fool and preserve our constitution and save our wonderful country from these criminals who are hell bent to destroy us.

Good...Excellent......
Let's hope Obama's policies continue....so the libtards who elected him can reap what they sow......conservatives will survive......lol....
Go Obama....put those policies in effect....lol...go, go, go......lol.....

I've NEVER witnessed firsthand the dismantling of a superpower....these are exciting times.....time to pull up a chair, get a cold brewski, pop some corn...and watch the show as the libtard policies bear their fruits.....lol.................lol......lol.....and ONE more "lol" for good measure....(snicker)

Obama Deception - HQ You Tube movie
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eAaQNACwaLw

Obama is a puppet like G.W. Bush who is working for a global dictatorship for a global bank with a global digital currency. Obama's job is to bankrupt the country and let the Federal Reserve pledge the US collateral to the World IMF bank.

..

The libs will protest
...that it's all just speculation - that these conversations aren't really taking place. But the fact is that these very dynamics have [layed out precisely the same way before. The New Deal prolonged the Depression in just such a manner and the Welfare state has dramatically INCREASED poverty at a cost of several trillions of dollars.

Then we'll get hit with the standard canard fest: the BS that the middle class has been steadily shrinking; that the middle class has been experiencing a declining standard of living; that Obama is "fixing" the Bush policies (when they are identical except in size); that CEO pay harms someone else; that things would be worse if government bailouts had not been used to save those companies "too big to fail"; that conservatism or lassez faire have been ascendant for 40 years and that is the problem; that the current economic crisis was not the direct result of government failure but was, instead, the fault of "greed" and/or a failure of capitalism.

NONE of those positions have any truth to them. In fact, none of those positions survive the scrutiny of intellect, but they will be presented as inescapable fact by morons who are incapable of researching the talking points they blather on about (else they would not attempt to purvey such idiocies).

We patiently await the libtroll parade.

I am more interested in O helping UAW
while others get skinned. The only reason he is protecting them is contributions now and reelection time.

They may all get fooled when customers will not purchase a vehicle made by the UAW. Can happen easily...

Time to protect yourself
I was recently retired then the Zero effect hit. I moved my retirement first to cash and missed some of the downturn. Now I am anticipating poor returns and sky high inflation. So I am moving my retirement funds to what I hope is a safer place outside the US. Most 401k, 403b, IRA, Roth accounts have options for funds investing in foreign companies. Think about it, you can vote with your investments.

CEO v. Congressmen
Do you know that a Congressman like Barney Frank will have a pension of ~$97,500 every year from the day he retires until he dies?

Do you know that he will get the top of the line healthcare for free until he dies?

Do you know that he will still be eligible for Social Security and Medicare?

Do you know that even the highest paid CEOs might be eligible for Social Security and Medicare?

Do you understand that shareholders can fire the CEO for any reason, but that Congressmen ABHOR term limits?

Do you realize that Congress taxed you and your heirs without even reading the legislation?

Do you comprehend that most Liberals, who are wealthy, live in districts that are impoverished?

Do you really think that they care more about you than in their own power?

To use Tammy's word, it is "pathetic" that you constantly defend them?

BTW, would you like $90,000 in a frozen Eggo box?

Socialism Closed The Eiffel Tour

Steve, WA, I have been on that bandwagon since July. You might also choose precious metals and life insurance policies, which are not subject to the tax code.

For those about to rock, I salute you and read my posts on "the socialism shuts down the Eiffel Tour" thread.

If you have read them before, many of the numbers have been updated, but are no less frigthening.

AIG
AIG is proving to be a hard nut to crack. Been 5 weeks trying to get my IRA account out of there to a other management company. So far nothing be stalls and paperwork.

Voters thought so
Despite the warnings 52% of Americans fell for this socialist community agitator, with no business experience what so ever. They allowed themselves to be manipulated by a main stream media who refused to vet this man. We now have a federal government moving swiftly to establish control of our financial institutions, health care, energy, and even the American auto industry. Do you democrat drones really think more government in your lives means a more successful you?

TOP OF THE HILL
Our politicians today firmly believe that the way for them to stay on TOP is legislating the prohibition of all others from climbing the ladder.
Little do they realize the masses at the bottom will eventually 'kick' that ladder out from under them.

People should be Picketing Government
employees who get those "Guaranteed for life" outrageous paychecks...they pit people against CEOs and Bankers so no one will look at them..these "Tea Parties" should happen in front of all Government facilities and mention termlimits and paycuts for Government employees...they will be like the Legacy Costs of the UAW but to all AMERICANS and are creating deficits in all states..they must go!and government should be SMALLER..a WHOLE LOT SMALLER

Response to Scotch Indian
Hey at least you guys have Hollyweird and Sean Penn. They will save the world from all of us "haters", right? Seriously, I feel for you but can do nothing about it except give you one piece of advice-leave CA. The Libeals, Leftists, Democrats and that "special class" of people that greatly reside in San Francisco will love it when the illegal aliens take over and reclaim CA for Mexico. NOTE-If that did happen then watch how many of them become staunch supporters of the U.S. Military.
Anyways, I digress, again the best thing to do is leave CA altogether. Although I am not sure where you will be able to go to now.

Just don't come to Texas
Those libtards can stay in California..we don't need them infecting our state with their radical agendas..duh

Get out ....
Government get out of our board rooms and let private enterprise operate in our Republic, not democracy, as our Constitution states. Either that or change our Constitution via the required state's approvals. If you do not, then there may be a rebellion or revolution because WE will not, for long, tolerate violations of our Constitution!

Kathy
As far as I'm concerned, Americans that voted for Obama will get what they deserve. I just hope that they won't bring everyone else down with them.

This coumn is so right
I just did my taxes and realized that the increase in household income I made in 2008 was taxed at the rate of 46% when you include SS and medicare. To be honest, that does not motivate one to work harder. My state will then tack on 6% -- so I'm looking at 52% taxation on the increased amount. I would like to also state my household makes no where near 250k.

Fletch
Amen...
You know, my mom was a single parent in the 70's.
Early on, she had no choice but to receive gov't assistance. It was not assistance. It was a the hammer in wait for the nail to rise.

She had a job but couldn't make more than X. She couldn't own a car, that would be an asset. She couldn't save any money, either.

And the idiot neighbors we had would report her to the state for driving her father's car to work. No public buses.
I remember the day she'd had it. She told the neighbors to go fukk themselves, she was done. And, shortly thereafter, we rented a house with an Aunt, and my Mutti worked two jobs to make it. She just retired and thank God, she never looked back on what Uncle could "do" for her.

CAPITALISM vs SOCIALISM
In this event the CEO is a socialist so he wins and capitalism loses.

Great Article!
Another excellent TH article. The last few paragraphs summarize the Obamanites PERFECTLY. They must be defeated and replaced using ANY means necessary.

Obama Investing in Failure what a plan

This is the core plank, in the Barack Obama 'Doctrine' of 'Making America Great'.

Business: Reward failing business's who are poorly managed with huge sums of cash.
Punish successful business's by taking more of their cash.

Citizens: Reward the American Citizen who makes bad decisions and whose lifestyles increase the costs of others, with an infusion of cash.
Punish the American Citizen who makes good decisions and whose lifestyles increase their prosperity and prospers the lives of others, by taking their hard earned cash from them.

Students: Reward students who have a poor record of student achievement and poor grades by funding their lifestyles with grants and large sums of cash.
Punish the good students by minimizing funds available to them by giving cash to the failing students.

Taxpayers: Reward those who do not pay taxes by giving them cash for not paying taxes.
Punish the taxpayers by increasing their taxes to give to those who do not pay taxes.

An age old adage is "You reap what you sow". If one plants good seed and fertilizes and waters it properly, one can expect a good harvest of what is planted.

When one plants bad seed, the harvest will be a worthless crop that produces more bad seed.

Barack Obama's core belief is that investing in failure and nurturing failure, will produce 'Excellence' in America.

Barack Obama believes that 'Failure will be the Success' of his administration.

The Cost of Ignorance

"Ignorance is the Mothers Milk of Liberalism."
Retired Geek

The lack of knowledge of the total failure of the vast majority of bureaucratic operations in comparison to the free market is abundantly available, yet people constantly look to the governmental bureaucracy to solve their problems.

The amazing thing about this type of ignorance is that everyone has been exposed to how poorly government and large government protected companies operate, yet they fail to make the direct correlation to the bureaucratic system as the root of the problem.

This turning of a blind eye to what in reality is highly detrimental to any individual in this case “the nanny state”, makes it easy to understand how snake oil salesmen make a good living.

Liberal Ignorance and inability to comprehend that Government bureaucracy as compared to the 'Free Market' is extremely costly.

Every citizen in America has been exposed at some point in their lives to Government inefficiency, whether at the drivers license bureau, dealing with the IRS or trying to make sense of property or school taxes.

Liberals believe this same Government bureaucracy can 'Save and Protect' American industry, that has shown poor judgment and made poor decisions from failing.

Liberal logic always determines that 'Investing in Failure', whether it is a business or a citizen (or illegal immigrant) always trumps investing in success.

D. MORRIS IS 1000 % CORRECT !

It is sadly "true " many of the moves Obama has made will hurt any level of business
with countless added regulations and raising the Capitol Gains
the fuel of growth in any business big or small and of course his raising of Corp Taxes ..... the dagger in the heart of all Business's .
This will increase their cost of doing business greatly not to mention the Trillion dollar plus Carbon Credit Tax that effects all that breath who are human in a terrible economy .
This Union
(PAYBACK )insane
( No Private Vote act ) is a small Business Killer . Totally unlawful against the Constitutional right of the Private vote !
Since Obama won't allow the Banks to pay back those Tarp Funds (he changes daily )it is obvious he wants big Govt. hands to (Control ) formerly free Enterprise Capitalist system . Yet Govt. knows nothing about .... Just look our 37 year Energy problems , Society Security , Medi a care , Freddy and Fanny loans as a few examples upon many . ..
This is what Socialism has always been about .. '' Government Control " of the mind and body !

Non-Sense
Anti-trust laws were on the books for a hundred years and working effectively until Reagan and the Bushes stopped enforcing them.

The objective is to make greater profits, not necessarily in gobbling up all of your competitors. In the old era, people made gobbs of money by making deals not making great products and when they failed they went looking for handouts on the premise of being too big to fail.

No one in Obama's administration has suggested an across the board control of corporate salaries, only those in businesses recieving hand outs from the federal government. If its OK to place a limit and how a welfare queen can spend her check why not on a corporate welfare queen.

On the tax issue raising taxes a little bit on people who can afford it is hardly an end to civilization.

Shareholder Rights
Conservatives should have been pushing for greater shareholder rights. But during the Reagan Era, shareholders rights have been weakened. This has resulted in compensating CEO and top executives for failure. Board of become exclusive clubs accountable to no one.

Boards are hand picked by management the the Boards return the favor with ever increasing compensation. When the companies go under the shareholders and workers suffer, but not the people at the top who retire to generous bonuses. That so many of the CEO's who crashed and burned their banks are still in charge is a tesiment to flaw in the system.

Republicans and some dems like Frank, Dodd, and Shumer, have been in bed with the Management class. Use corporate money to buy policies that are often detrimental to the shareholders.

This is what is wrong with the syetem and Republicans had years to practice what they preached and didn't. I question some of the decisions that Obama is making, but he would not be placed in this position had the Republicans had not sold their soles to the management class at the expense of shareholders.

Retired Geek
Whe are looking at collassal failure of the private sector.

Dick
As is so often the case, you and the other "Dummy" have written an article absent of reality. The "Too Big to Fail" argument is only pertinent to critical aspects of this economy. No Corporation is using the actions of this government to plan it's future. Articles such as your, contribute to the pathetic context in which your party is held! That is truly SAD...

Last time, it was vote against Bush
not particularly: vote FOR Obama.

Next time, we'll be voting against Obama. That is, if the Republicans can find the "perfect" candidate. Too many of them stay home if their candidate has flaws.

Excactly What is Fairness
I posted this in my blog last week, but it bears repeating- "Fairness" simply means "I envy what you have and I want it, too." It does not take into account what you had to accomplish or sacrifice to achieve it, it just sees the end product- that you have accomplished something, and I should have it as well.

That kind of fairness is a very immature attitude.

I asked a liberal friend last week, "If you take everything from the rich, who do you take from when there's nothing left?"

It was informative of you to label your first post "Nonsense". It would have been better still if you had likewise labeled the second.

The sharehlder has the ultimate right to divest himself of any stock that does not perform satisfactorily for him. If his shareholder vote is insufficient sway to other shareholders, he can always vote with his feet. The "weakening of shareholder rights" under Reagan is a cute little fairy tale but we're discussing the real world here.

Is the market perfect? No. But it is a helluva lot better than the alternative. A common problem with liberas is that they simply do not comprehend the marketplace (or the real world at large ... which is why they are liberals). They cannot grasp, for example, that when the government creates a massive asset bubble (the boom) and then bursts it (the bust), businesses (in this case primarily the banks) suffer from the government's incompetence. Often a good CEO is one that prevents the damage from such times from being worse than actually occurred.

Frank, Dodd, and Shumer were pushing for greater socialization and governmnent intervention because making homes available for poorer Americans (even if, as is obvious, it could not be sustained) was politically advantageous to them. The notion that this was being "in bed with management" is amazingly silly.

This is what is wrong with liberals. They misperceive reality (by a huge margin) and then blame everything on business, not becasue it has any connection to reality, but because it feels good to blame "business" and "businessmen" for all that is wrong with society.

I question ALL of the decisions that Obama has made because not only are they a repeat of the same failed policies of the end of the Bush administartion (only larger) but becasue they feed the imbecilic notion that the crisis resulted from the problems of the "management class" rather than government itself.

voter ignorance?
Come now. Does anyone think that US voters did not know that McCain's views were often assumed by voters to be those of Obama?

Does anyone think that Obama defined change?

The rest of the story is coming soon...it may be painful!

Taxpayers will turn inward.......
What is happening right now, is taxpayers are looking for ways not to pay more taxes and to save their money in other areas that have no link to the government. What is going to happen when people invest in gold and/or put their money under the ”mattress” instead of banks or wall street, stop growing their small, medium or large businesses (no more employment growth) so they don’t pay more taxes or remove jobs as taxes go up to balance it, tax payers stop going out to dinner, stop buying non needed products, stop upgrading their homes or not buying a home………. I know done some of this! Now lets’ say 10% or 20% of tax payers rein in their spending, their placement of money and stop the growth any size businesses……… how is the government going to pay for all their new useless programs? More and More higher taxes on everyone? How is New York City going to survive when all the “rich” people move out or go poor as an example of their current higher tax trend?

So, to the liberal spenders, who is going to pay the bill for your personal feel good agenda social programs now? But then you might be entertaining the idea of coming into my home to look for gold coins (been done before) or just make me pay real estate taxes so high I lose my mortgage free house, or you can raise all taxes to 95% like FDR wanted for all? I can hold out but not everyone can.….

Holy Ignorance Batman!!!
"Whe are looking at collassal failure of the private sector."

One would have to search far and wide to find a statement more incompetent than THAT one. WHAT part of the private sector failed?!?!?

The crisis was caused (as are all boom and bust cycles, from the panic of 1813 to the Great Depression to this one) by government failure. In this case the Fed began pumping excess liquidity into the economy in the first part of this decade and particularly in the 2003-2005 timeframe. The market reacted - as it must - by trying to invest this liquidity. Then, the interventions of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac created an irrational resale market for risky assets (giving them a governmental imprimatur) that could not otherwise possibly have been maintained. And once the malinvestment was created, the Fed overcompensated in turning off the credit spigot (again, as happened in the 1930s).

Matters have been made worse (broken record time - again, as in the 1930s) by government created uncertainty.

That's reality. It you want a fully researched detailing of the disaster, pick up Woods' "Meltdown" or if you want to see how the identical (or extremely similar) conditions had the same results, pick up Rothbard's "The Panic of 1813" and "America's Great Depression" or Jim Powell's "FDR's Folly".

Who is to tell me I earn too much?
My family was dirt farmers, as all they had was dirt. My mother quit school in the Great Dep. to help at home and became a self-taught bookkeeper. She married a salesman, and they paid mine and my sister’s college tuition—we earned the rest, and both married engineers.

There were no Pell Grants, student loans, “open” campuses with no fees in our time. We worked for our board, books, and food at school.

We sent our own kids through college to become teachers, engineers, and one lawyer. My son married a lawyer whose grandparents came here with everything they owned in a sack. Why should we pay for any one else’ illegals to get free medical, Soc. Sec., or free college tuition? Because according to some punk in the White House that we earn too much and “have” too much?

The campus I teach on today accepts EVERYONE, altho’ everyone doesn’t make it through their first classes, as many cannot read or write or compute. This summer I will teach a course in ENGLISH GAMMAR to “college” students, material I had in GRADE SCHOOL.

What good is promising people who major in English but don’t know what a noun or verb a “free” college ed. while stealing my earnings through taxes to do so?

This punk pres. who talks of “fairness” somehow went to three colleges on no known support and produced no known records of any kind. Who is he to tell me what is fair, when he lived a charmed life and was groomed by Ted Kennedy and the Chicago corrupt machine politics to bring Chi-town-style thuggery to DC?

I’m going to a tea party on Wed., and I already sent my teabags to DC. If you don’t want this nonsense to continue, do the same.

Do you think that the government has a right to limit what a welfare receipt can do with his or her check?

Do you think that the government should have the right to tell a company that is recieving corporate welfare from the taxpayers what level of compensation is approriate for executives.

SO you think that shareholders who ate the ultimate owners of corporations should have some say in the compensation of CEO and other top executives?

Barack Obama Hates a Strong America

Barack Obama 'Hates a Strong America' because, Obama and his followers feel that 'Strength is Oppressive'.

Barack Obama feels that a 'Strong America' will cause Oppression in the World.

Barack Obama feels that a 'Weakened America' will bring more 'Freedom and Liberty' to the World.

The Plumber
Nothing unconsitutional about bailouts or farm subsidies. Its been going on for decades. Chrysler, airlines, military contractors, etc all have received some kind of extra help from the taxpayer on the too big to fail or too strategically important to fail.

Both Liberals and Conservatives have presided over bailouts. No one has ever made a sucessful challenge in the courts on the basis of constitutionality. We currently have a conservative majority on the courts and no one is making a case because they know that they would lose.

Like it or notm, fair of not. AIG, Citicorp, Bank of America, are all too big to fail. The Bush administration tested that by letting Lehman fail and it almost brought down the whole financial system.

AIG would not be too big to fail if it were not too big. In other words if there were a lot of little AIG's rather than one big one the failure of some or a few would not crash the system. That is one of the reasons for Anti-Trust laws, the very think that Morris is complaining about.

Does it offend you to think that you tax dollars are going to reward failure and incompetence, me too. But the solutions which are greater regulations, stregthening of shareholder rights, strict enforcement of anti-trust laws are all opposed by the far right as placing limits on the CEO and Corporate Boards.

Ironic isn't it that uber free market crazys hasten the era of socialism which was started by the Bush not Obama administration.

ReCon-USMC
Right wing propaganda. Thats what happens when you watch too much Fox News. Anyone with 1/4 of a brain knows that Fannie and Freddy were bit players in this mess. Yes, there were problems with them this crisis has many fathers, but Fannie and Freddy were late to get on board and did not write Sub-prime mortgages. Fanny and Freddy had nothing to do with credit default swaps, and throughout the crisis maintained some standards on who they lent to.

Sorry sir, but the culprits were wall street firms who acted irresponsibly and took advantage of a reregulatory zeal.

As to Frank and Dodd, they deserve a share of blame, but not for acting like liberals, but by behaving like Republicans. (Money will do that to you.)

BTW, that you for your service to this country.

Joel
While your oints are well taken, alas, SCOTUS will never return to the original intent sufficiently to rule accordingly. They had already strayed away from originalism by the passage of the 16th Amendment and Roosevelt's stacking abandoned it entirely.

It is at least a good thing that you show tremedously more knowlegde of the Constitution than your chief detractor. No "ascendancy of wealth" concept exists anywhere in the document; if anything, the Constitution as intended prohibited the granting of privilege (collective liability is best ahndled via insurance rather than government fiat) in the first place and thus conferred no special taxation rights as a result of powers not granted.

Certainly examples of amazing ignorance such as the one provided to you are instructive, but they are not worth the cost of a stamp let alone the additional expense needed to get the penny past asylum security.

Judicial Review
"The Constitution, as it is written, is the ultimate Law of our land..."

It's a shame Obama doesn't believe this.

To F1etch Response April 13,2009 10:20AM
I have also done some research on this recession. You are absolutely correct concderning the panic of 1813 and the Great Depression. In each occasion, the government's intervention in a natural business cycle created a worse mess than if they had just left it alone. Recessions are a natural phenomenom of any free market system. Those who were foolish and lived on the edge during the boom times are always going to suffer in lean times because they didn't plan for their future. To have the Obama administration claim that these cycles will never happen again should tell every believer in the free market that he is going to do away with capitalism. Under a socialist system, there would be no ups or downs, no incentives to invest, and no incentive to create jobs or to work. Some idiots think Obama is going to create Utopia.

ReCon-USMC
There would have been no country wide if they did not have a place to peddle these no doc mortgages.

Wall street created mortgage backed securities, AIG issued Credit default swaps and the Federal Regulators looked the other way or frankly had been castrated by uber free market types in the Republican Congress like Phil Gramm, and a Bush Administration who stocked regulatory agencies with incompetent political appointees.

The entire Senate Banking Committee went along in exchange for hugh campaign contribiutions. That included the Dems who voted straight down the line with the Republicans.

Some experts sounded the alarms but were ignored by the media especially the right wing media who spent hours covering Natalie Holloway and gay marrage and ignored the potenial crisis.

Addressing more "Nonsense"
"Nothing unconsitutional about bailouts or farm subsidies."

...other than the complete absence of a grant of that power to government anywhere in the Constitution. Just because a blind eye has been turned to it doesn't mean that it is either constitutional or anything but harmful.

Both Democrats and Republicans have presided over bailouts. That is not the same thing.

Thw whole concept of "too big to fail" is absurd on its face. There is no economic catastrophe related to such failures any more damageing than the taking of resources from productive areas of society in order to prop up these entities. Lehman's failure was NOT by ANY stretch of the imagination the cause or contributor to the financial crisis, but rather a SYMPTOM of the underlying governmental failure (just as were the bank failures of the 1930s and while THEY were NOT deemed "too big to fail" only a small percentage of depositor funds were ever lost).

The alarmism behind the belief that a collapse of any one component of the economy could possibly result in the collapse of the economy as a whole is on par with the population alarmism of Paul Ehrlich's "The Population Bomb" and predictions on such a basis are equally as credible.

"Does it offend you to think that you tax dollars are going to reward failure and incompetence, me too."

Sure. But that is based on an actual understanding of what CAUSED the problem and the knowledge that it cannot be addressed by "more regulation" (which was a contributor to the problem rather than a contributor due to its absence).

Ironic isn't it that uber socialist intervention crazys have the nerve to blame their own failures on capitalism and the free market as if anyone around here would be stuid enough to fall for such foolishness.

JMO51
You are a liar an an obfuscator!!
It was your beloved Democrats, (Barney Frank, Chris Dodd, Barack Obama, and Franklin Raines) that caused the whole mess by forcing banks to write bad loans to bad people in bad neighborhoods. Now they are using the government to bail them out and basically give them free housing.
Now with nothing else to do, Barack is sending his ACORN minions to hurl insults (and other things) at working people while breaking locks on foreclosed homes and staying in them for free.
You and yours are a bunch of thieves and liars!!

barrysoetoro.com
The man in the White House is not "Barack Hussein Obama", but, his real name is "Barry Soetoro". He's using the name "barack hussein obama" so nobody can find out anything about his past. So his birthplace is not the only thing he is hiding in his birth certificate. And mr. soetoro/obama said if he is challenged in court about his birth certificate, the "costs will be high". He is telling everyone that he will fight it at all costs. Why would an honest/innocent man fight so hard to conceal a public record? The statement "the costs will be high" is an admission that he is guilty, and he knows it. How much would it cost for him to retrieve his original birth certificate and present it to us so we'll shut up?! Why won't he just do it and get it over with? Because he's GUILTY and he knows it. Mr. Soetoro/obama is a FRAUD. He's illegitimate. He's a socialist. It's illegal for him to be President of the united States. He's a threat to national security.

Republicans can win, but...
The problem with the Republican conservatives is that they are looking for the “perfect” candidate. In the last presidential election, most conservatives looked for a “replica” of Reagan, not realizing that in 1980 we happened to blunder onto Reagan who fit that particular page of history. None of us conservatives knew that Reagan would turn out to be the “perfect” president, but he did. Conservatives are, generally speaking, religious people, who are searching for God, a.k.a. “perfection.” I personally believe that God is perfect in every sense because He in His wisdom gave mankind the perfect set of circumstance for man to learn, and yes, evolve in his thinking. There is no such person among humans to be prefect for everyone, but a person who is strongly conservative in secular principles, will recognize the most burning needs of a nation in a particular time, and will make the right decisions the times call for.
Obama, unfortunately came at a time when we, conservatives, were disappointed in Republicans generally speaking, and many of us were misled by the constant barrage of the mainstream media for 7 years emphasizing and exaggerating the wrong doings of the Republicans, and we either didn’t vote, or compromised our votes for a McCain, or, unfortunately even went as far as voting for Mr. Change. This is a lesson we had to learn, not to look for a “messiah” who will be able to “lift all our pain,” and solve all our myriads of national problems.
If we, conservatives, compromise to a certain extent and accept that a “perfect” presidential candidate is not the religious savior of our nation, but is firm on these three principles: 1)against sexual deviancy in societal trends, 2) for free market economy and 3) a national security hawk, then we have found the Reagan of our time. Pro-lifers MUST continue to “win hearts and minds” form their churches, not force this highly divisive issue into the election process and unto our legislative and executive candidates.

Actually, I don't see what your reply
to me has to do with what I said.

The gov't does restrict its largesse: you can't use food stamps to buy liquor--I don't know about cigarettes, but I don't think either Bush or the Big O should have given anything to the auto industry (partly, as Ford didn't take the *loan*), but the gov't is a poor example of a shareholder, due to its overwhelming power.

This situation has in some ways worked before on a smaller level. Chrysler was bailed out in the 70s, and NYC also was bailed out with, I think, teacher pension monies in the 70s.

But nothing on the scale of today's spending from the 1st *stimulus* under Bush ($642 billion) to the TARP ($750 billion) to the O stimulus ($1 trillion) to the proposed deficit of $3.6 trillion and growing (it is predicated on the USA having a 4% GNP next year, which is unlikely) has ever been attempted and never has the gov't, a giant ax and not a scalpel, tried to interpose itself into major industries on this scale and actually direct *private* businesses individually.

The gov't is a blunt instrument and not well suited to making generation-affecting decisions. Look at its nutsy devotion to ethanol.

My pt. was in 1915 my mother's parents made $300, and I now make, and my son the engineer with his wife the lawyer, a gadzillion times more, but should the fed. gov't have to the right to tell us as individual citizens that we earn too much, and would it be more *fair* to tax us more heavily to give OUR earnings to people who have their own opportunities to fulfill their dreams in Am.?

One of the problems with Obama's tax
philosophy is the underlying belief that money is not property, therefore they are not putting your personal property at risk by taxing your income. You see how simple life is when you can define the rules to suit yourself?

Left Wing Propoganda
Or rather blatant economic igniornace. That's what happens when listen to too much Air America. Anyone with 1/4 of a brain knows that Fannie and Freddy were NOT bit players in this mess, but rather exacerbated the excess liquidity problem substantially by giving a governmental sign-off to a market that could not otherwise be maintained without such interference. Fannie and Freddie did not WRITE subprime mortgages but they engaged in the trading of mortgage backed securiities (this is what Fannie and Freddie ACTUALLY DO) that INCLUDED them. This unwarranted support of a retail market for such mortgage instruments distorted the entire supply and demand interation for ALL mortgage securities (including CDS instruments) albeit none of them would have come into being (even in the complete absence of additional regulation) had not the Fed created the liquidity problem in the first place. THAT isn't Fox News or partisnship; that's basic economics.

Sorry sir, but the culprits were the Fed, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac no matter how little eductaion in economic concepts you've had or how desperately you choose to remain in denial. Kind of like repeating the absurdity that Frank and Dodd did anything but act like the flaming liberals they have always been, pressing Fannie and Freddie to intervene eer further in order to create "affordable mortgage availability".

Finally...
"There would have been no country wide if they did not have a place to peddle these no doc mortgages."

FINALLY, one gotten correct. But the fact is that the secondary market for these instruments would never have come into being in the first palce had not the excess liquidity in the marketplace been created by the Fed and would not have lasted very long (and thu been much less severe) had Fannie and Freddie not bolstered an irrational secondary market for just such mortgages.

Mortgage-backed securities have been around COMPLETELY WITHOUT PROBLEM for decades. Nothing changed with regard to the nature of people in the business or the regulatory environment under which they operated (the "castration" of regulations" at any time during the period is entirely delusional. What changed were the actions of the Fed and the subsequent actions of Fannie/Freddie.

Your factual inaccuracies don't get any more credible because you keep repeating them. Read an economics text or a history book bot written by obvious ideologues or read the economic analysis of the crisis by Thomas Woods "Meltdown". You must unlearn what you have learned ... mostly because its silly.

Aniko, you are right
Too many people on TH bragged of not voting for McCain because he had been for *comp. imm. reform* and he helped Ted Kennedy pass NCLB and was part of the Gang of 14 on judicial nominations and was not Reagan.

So, Ohio went for the Big O by 200,000 votes BUT ONLY 5000 ACTUALLY VOTED MORE THAN IN 2004.

The difference is that too many Reps. STAYED HOME. They gave up the race to the 200,000-dubiously reg.'d ACORN products (15 reg'd in the OH River) and helped give us the terrible situation we have now.

But 62,000,000 did not vote O and need now to write Cong., send tea bags, go to tea parties, be ACTIVE, and not just blog here for ego's sake, if the US is not to turn into O Land.

JMO51
Apparently you have never heard of Annual Meetings. Or shareholder Proxy Battles.

Oh, I forgot, it is the government's responsibility to change the Board of Directors, not the shareholders responsibility through their voting. And the Republicrats, from Reagan through both Bush Presidencies, failed to reform the system. Could this be because the people are too disinterested, or lazy, to bother to submit items for the Annual Meeting agenda?

I think the people are as interested in good corporate management as they are in good governmental management. That lack of interest is how you wound up with the immediate past Governor (you remember, the one who a hooker believed had kinky tastes), and the current tax and tax Governor. It is also how we wound up with the Hopey-Changey Administration. The big difference is you might make money with corporate managers, but you will never make money with any government manager, even good ones.

Philosophy
Dick's column today really is the basic philosophy of the liberal mind set. Liberals are so worried about making us all equal, they can't see that the system of the USA already did that. We just aren't all equal at the same time. As the bottom rung of the ladder moves up, more people come in to take their place. Without the incentive to strive for the top rung, those at the top don't work so hard to keep making the ladder higher and higher.

Even with all the problems we have had lately, my health and not being able to hold a job any more, which has caused some financial difficulty, I much prefer the capitalistic system to the welfare system. I spend more of my time on generating outside income, and operating a home based business that I can do even with my health issues. And I dare say that I will do better than I ever did when I had a job, but it will take time for me to climb the ladder again. But, I can do it, and I will.

re: Joel-De Oppresso Liber - Jud. Review

Well stated. John Marshall seriously over-reached in the Marbury v. Madison decision. Unfortunately, the parties wronged did not assert themselves at that time.

The ultimate interpreters of the Constitution are legitimately the States, as they are the signatories to the contract that established the Federal Government by ratification of the Constitution.

It is passing strange that the Supreme Court, a creature created by that contract, would be empowered to decide whether the terms and conditions of that contract are being met. This seems entirely contrary to the fundamental rights and obligations of common law defining contracts.

This is one reason why the adoption of Amendment XVII was so destructive of Federalism.

The only peaceful way to re-establish the Constitutionally specified balance between the States and the Federal Government may be a Constitutional Convention.

Man, you wrote two whole paragraphs trying to explain something to the liberals. That's too much! There is no way a liberal is gonna read those two paragraphs and be able to make sense out of anything. Use small words for the liberals(under 3 syllables). You just cannot use big words like "financial", "capitalistic" or "generating" and expect a liberal to understand there meanings. Use words like "good" and "fair" and "right" and "hope" and "change". Then you'll get to them. Remember, liberals are easier to read than a children's book. So talk to them like you're talking to a child.

Frank & Dodd Should Be In Court!
F1etch offers, "Fannie and Freddie did not WRITE subprime mortgages but they engaged in the trading of mortgage backed securiities (this is what Fannie and Freddie ACTUALLY DO) that INCLUDED them."

Absolutely!

Capitalist Companies work best when run by Capitalists for profits.

Clearly, capitalist companies being run by Politicians for votes is insanity! They have no skin in the game. The failure of Fannie & Freddie has no effect on the electibility of Rep Barney Frank, Sen Christoper Dodd, Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Sen Harry Reid or Pres Barack Obama -- all with their hands on the helm.

Yet, they bear no pain in the failure of the institutions that they manage.

When 9/11 hit, we had a Congressional Committee to investigate. Now, we have a financial meltdown and no one is investigating! Obama and his party are playing a diversionary game that exploits populism. Everyone hates Wall Street, so let's blame it on them!

They want you to just accept that Auto, Bank, Insurance and Healthcare Industries all colluded with corruption to destroy our Economy. And, the Government is the hero!

Like Reagan offered, .... the Government is the problem! And, Obama wants to give us more of it! Good greif!

The truth is that Frank and Dodd should be doing a "perp walk" into our courts and put away for life. Political meddling in finances is a license to steal.

Great Blog
This government is way out of control. That is way "The conservative Reconstruction Project" has done so well. There are people still left in this country that see this government is getting bigger and bigger. We have to that our country back from these nuts on the left.

The history of this ec. mess is
1938--FDR and Dem. Cong. create Freddie Mac to help forestall mortgage foreclosure, particularly for farms. Backing by tax payers.
1968--Johnson and Dem. Cong. invent Fannie Mae to promote housing to *lower income* applicants. Backing by tax payers.
1977--Carter and Dem. Cong. pass first Cumminity Redevelopment Act forcing banks to loan to people in formerly *red-lined* areas considered poor credit risks (up to 10% of portfolios) and forcing ins. to insure such risks. Backed by tax payers.
1992 and 1999--Under Clinton and both Dem. and Rep. Cong. pass new CRAs lowering standards for income verification for those applying for mortgages. Backed by tax payers.
2003 and 2005--Geo. W. Bush and John McCain sponsor leg. to lower % Freddie and Fannie can carry of *bad* or unrepayable mort loans, which are growing disproportionately as disability, child support, workmen's comp, and other situational income has been counted for mort. income requirements. Cong.--Frank, Dodd, Schumer, and Rangel all oppose.
Banks do give bonuses and perks for securing more and more doubtful morts., after all the gov't demand them anyway.
Freddie and Fannie eventually raise their buying of bad loans from 8% to nearly 20% until they can take no more--2008, and then credit freezes.
One reason the recession cannot get over is Feddie, Fannie, the CRAs, Frank, Dodd, et. al. are all still in place and tax payers are still promising to support these semi-gov't orgs. and mortgages are still being written with their backing. Our Cong. reps. have made no restructuring for Fred and Fan or the CRAs a priority.
Time marches on.

Curious
What if any fiduciary or malfeasance resposibility will be required of the government workers responsible for the running of private companies? Can we prosecute them if they screw up?

There is NO National Mortgage Crisis

The National Mortgage crisis is a 'Myth' perpetrated by Barack Obama, Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid.

There is a crisis in some Liberal States that voted for Barack Obama.

1) Nevada - 1 out of 76 homes in foreclosure.
2) California - 1 out of 173 homes in foreclosure.
3) Arizona - 1 out of 182 homes in foreclosure.
4) Michigan - 1 out of 397 homes in foreclosure.
5) Florida - 1 out of 214 homes in foreclosure.

Barack Obama targeted Arizona because Liberals think they can win that state in the next election.

Foreclosures are a personal financial crisis, but NOT a National financial crisis.

The beneficiaries of taxpayer charity will be highly concentrated in just five states - California, Nevada, Arizona, Florida and Michigan.

Most of the homes in these 5 states that are 'Underwater' were financed by Fannie and Freddie to those NOT qualified for regular financing.

Yes, thats how socialism works
From up here in Kanukistan, I can tell you that at a certain point, which is much lower than that same point in the USA, it becomes much more sensible to Go Galt, turtle up and either slowly, stealthily go off the books and spend your excess in America and bury the cans at midnight ... or to simply quit doing anything extra, lest it be confiscated to be doled out in Child Fitness Credits or Fmaily This or Child That, to people who make lots more (babies) than you make.

If you want to live that way, there's already a country available for you. Of course, it's collapsing like wet cardboard in a tornado, but hey, that's what you want, right?

US Gov't Trashed The Economy!
JMO51 offers, "There would have been no country wide if they did not have a place to peddle these no doc mortgages."

Wrong.

Fannie and Freddie have been the political chew toys of the Democratic Party for over 15 years, captained by Barney Frank and Christoper Dodd. Under their management, Fannie and Freddie were stictly used for politically correct employment and governance.

Fannie & Freddie, under politically correct management, backed high risk loans that favored high risk borrowers. When US Government guarantees enterprises that back such high-risk loans, such hig-risk loans become legal tender throughout the world! They are as safe as the US Government.

You have got to be a Kool Ade drinker to buy the story that the Auto, Banking, Insurance and Healthcare Industries are the common thread that caused this financial mess. And, of course, the Govenment is the sober one that needs to fix this.

The truth is that the US Government screwed up the market! And, Obama wants to apply more of the same to fix it! You have got to be out of your mind!

Obama Teleprompter Cartoon

Setting the stage:

Barack Obama is standing in front of a urinal, reading the teleprompter.

The Teleprompter reads:
=======================
Start Peeing.
Stop Peeing.
Unzip Pants.
Shake it.
Zip Pants.

A Secret Service agent 'Screams' into his communication device "Mop Up in the Presidents bathroom, someone is messing with his Teleprompter again."

Wow
This is a typical conservative article. By the way Dick that Chinese saying, "the highest nail gets hit down" was used incorrectly. That saying is talking about how China is interdependent//collectivist culture. They don't believe in individual advance, they believe in anything that benefits the society or group as a whole. The government is not going to start taxing people 90% and they are not going to start taking over companies. They just want people to realize that if you are a global financial company you effect everyone. I believe that everyone should be able to make money and advance but not at the expense of the common man. I just wish that conservatives would start thinking realistically and not exaggerating everything.

OhioGal
has it right. Producers are going to stop producing. Smal businesses will scale back. Those with income ranges that get taxed are going to work less. These same producers are going to hide what hasn't been confiscated from future taxes. They are also going to consume less as they bunker down.

This tax season I've reached my limit. As I write out large checks to the fed, state, and local governments, I am planning to work less next year and I'm not spending a penny beyond the basics like food and toilet paper for the next few months. I'm boycotting the economy. You can take the fruits of my labor at the point of a gun, but not one penny I'm left with will be going to this economy -- if enough people do this good luck with an economic recovery.

Joey in GA
You know, you are right. I keep forgetting they don't understand those type words. My bad.

I remember talking to a liberal friend of ours about getting less o what you tax, and getting more of what you reward. I was explaining to him about welfare type programs and such, and how taxing success will ultimately lead to less successful people. You could see there was a glimmer of light coming from his head, but he just couldn't understand how that could be.

I thought for sure he was going to vote for Obama, but he told me he voted for Ralph Nader. You just can't help some people. It is no wonder why the country is in such peril. Our children are being taught by mostly that liberal mind set. The dumbing down of America has been going on for way too long, and I am not sure it is reversible after this much time.

Joel/ Fletch1
Joel,if you have a lawyer ask him/her this simple question. What is the basis for "Taxation"? President Taft acknowledged that an "Artificial Entity" that enjoyed certain privileges was indeed eligible for taxation. Ascendancy to Wealth is a concept that underwrites "Private Property". There is no Context for insurance in this argument. Ask a Lawyer, who is right. My specialty is Real Estate Law. Don't listen to this "Fool" who appears on TH trying to prove a negative. Fletch1 is a "Fraud". If his "Dumb As" know so much. Why is he discuss a case of the "Horse has left the Barn". The "Idiots of America" are trying to place blame on Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. They do this because they have no idea as to how this economy works. I guess they don't post that on the Cereal Boxes.

Jason - WOW back atcha...
First of all, this ISN'T China. I cannot understand why liberals are always so apt and ready to fire with "in XXXX, they do this and that and the other thing...". Where is it written that because something is done in country X or country Y, it should also be done here in the US? When did we become a nation of followers instead of a nation of leaders?? If these other countries are so much better than us, why aren't illegals flocking THERE?

Secondly - interdependence/collectivism (read: Socialism) is a blantant, proven failure. Capatalism exercised correctly in a free market benefits EVERYONE. Another rhetorical question - when/how did we turn from a nation fully willing to get up out of our ruts, get up off of our collective arses, and go out and make our way in the world - to a nation with our hands out and the wool pulled over our eyes, waiting like little birds in a nest for momma to feed us??

Barack Obama won the election because a general populace that is unable or unwilling to think for themselves and believed in "Hope" and "Change". He also won because of a general populace that is jealous - jealous of success and envious of someone who might have more "stuff"...so much so that it's now "out of style" to enjoy the fruits of ones labor...holy crap!

Jason - you say everyone should be able to make money but to quote "not at the expense of the common man"...please explain how a business owner who breaks his back and gives up his time, sweat, tears, and most likely equity to become a success would do so "at the expense of the common man". I wait in anticipation of your response! (not)

Sounds like someone is a little jealous.

Sounds like YOU yourself need a dose of realistic, unexaggerative thought...

Higher Taxes Grows Poverty & Government
Lulu offers, "Producers are going to stop producing. Smal businesses will scale back."

Poor people suffer taxes disproportionately more than everyone else.

Every tax, tariff, embargo and regulation gets reflected in the net cost of goods and services.

Poor people, nearly by definition, spend 100% of their money on goods and services. Any cost increase, for them, forces a consumption decrease. Will it be the cigarettes? Will it be the beer? Or, more likely, will it be letting the kid live with a dirty diaper an extra hour or two? Or, a meal skipped here and there?

So, they slip deeper into poverty.

How about the family treading just above poverty, saving 1%, maybe 5% of their money for a house, someday? Any increase in costs, drops them into poverty and to lose sight of the dream.

So, Obama wants to raise taxes. He thinks we are too stupid to see that the intended beneficiaries of his largesse will, in the end, be the greatest victims.

The real winners in the tax lottery are politicians --- they get a bigger government take, more power and the pretense that they are helping the little people.

With Obama, America is out of its mind!

It's over...
We'll never know what hit us. These are the good ol' days. The future isn't so bright. Keep those Tea parties coming but maybe everyone should just say NO to the taxman. Taxation without representation remember?

Good points
Thomas Sowell has written extensively about economic mobility and that people move rather easily from one bracket to another in our country. This is based on longitudinal IRS data. Also, he has said our country is not one of "haves and have nots" but rather one of "haves and have lots". Our "poor" have high rates of home ownership, car ownership, and possess many modern conveniences. Don't tell liberals - it only confuses them.

LuLu
I am with you all the way!

I'm a small business owner (read: one employee...myself!), and when I started out on my own with this venture 1 and a half years ago, I had grand ideas. I was going to build a business...expand it...get to the point where I was running the company with others doing the work.

Then along came OprahBama and the presidency of "HopeyChangey" and BAM - down went those hopes! Now I hope to stay under the radar (and under that $250,000 threshold). I'm looking out for #1. Screw this guy and his "mandated charity". Take your "sharing of the wealth" elsewhere pal. I'm more than happy to do my part, grow a business, possibly provide jobs - provided it's not while under the gun...not now. Now I'm more than happy to remain in the trenches and make a decent living by myself.

I challenge the libtrolls wandering over here intoxicated to explain to me exactly how my change in mentality is going to be BETTER for the country economically.

Would this be the CHANGE he was speaking of? Hmmmm...

This is a blog world. Your stated credentials are merely self-aggrandizement. This is not a pick-up bar, your credentials mean nothing. If you are not capable of using empirical evidence to prove your point, maybe you should try another venue.

It is always interesting to read a failed argument, followed by invented trump cards, like credentials.

My goodness, why on EARTH do liberals even bother getting out of bed in the morning?? You folks want a law/regulation/nanny-statist for EVERYTHING! We can't eat trans-fats...we can't smoke...we can't leave our engines idling in the parking lot of a convenience store...and on and on and on.

If you are that unknowledgeable of the market and you are unwilling to take the risk, you should not be in the market. Do your research and buyer beware...apparently, unless you voted for Obama.

The whole problem with liberals is their unwillingness to take responsibility for themselves and their actions, and their willingness (and blatant hubris) to want to assign blame and restitution for every blessed thing that may happen to them.

=============================================
But during the Reagan Era, shareholders rights have been weakened. This has resulted in compensating CEO and top executives for failure. Board of become exclusive clubs accountable to no one.
=============================================

So, in other words, because companies in the past were shortsighted enough to pay a failed executive a ridiculously high salary amount, we now ALL have to suffer?

And I think someone else put it correctly...vote your proxy or sell your shares if you are not happy with management.

Before people can appreciate
Obama's greatness, they must be made equal.

JMO51
What law school did you attend?

Any corporate law class or good book on corporations law would tell you that shareholders have the absolute right to fire any board member or executive, along with setting salaries.

Not enough regulations?

Every year (since 1992), I have spent thousands of dollars on rules & regs updates, memoranda, understandings, and case law on the Securities Act of 1933 and the 1934 Securities Exchange Act.

Could there have been more on CDS and GSOs?

Yes, but a NYT article last fall laid the blamed the feet of Alan Greenspan and former Clinton Treasury Secretary/financial advisor, Robert Rubin.

Well, what about those AIG bonuses?

http://hotair.com/archives/2009/03/30/aig-fp-strongarmed-do nations-for-dodd/

And, the government regulating your welfare check?

Sheesh, down here, you even have to pass a DRUG TEST to get welfare.

The irony is
that Obama and his pals are doing things which will inflict damage on our way of life that the terrorists could only hope to do.

A Funny Thing Happened On The Way

To the LIBERAL Tea Party.

At least the mainstream tea party movement can attract THOUSANDS... and, they were protesting corporate welfare, a subject with which I agree...

I guess Madame Dufarge had a better gig at the Improv...

Shareholder Rights cont'd...
==========================================
============================================

While I'm not going to argue with the failure of some banks and companies, I do take issue with you playing the blame game (yet again) saying that the crash of these institutions is a direct result of high CEO compensation. There were a whole laundry list of factors involved to cause this and to point at one item is at best irresponsible. Do some research for pete's sake.

===========================================
Republicans and some dems like Frank, Dodd, and Shumer, have been in bed with the Management class. Use corporate money to buy policies that are often detrimental to the shareholders.
===========================================

Who are you trying to kid here? Republicans and SOME dems??

Wake up...almost ALL politicians are part of the "higher-end" class. The difference between them and Frank/Dodd/Schumer and your "saviour" is that your heroes all got caught with their hand in the company till...didn't one of them make over 9.5 mil from Fannie or Freddie last year?

What about that...where is your blaming NOW??

=============================================
This is what is wrong with the syetem and Republicans had years to practice what they preached and didn't.
=============================================

Yet another irresponsible gem. Give it up - find a hobby or something else to do - because you are not very good at this.

I got my proxy in the mail. It was like voting in the Solviet Union, One set of candidates nominated by who, the existing Board.

Proxy votes are a joke even if you hold a substancial anount of stock. Plus corp. shop around for the state that offers management most powers and stockholders the least. Even a non-binding vote by shareholders was vehemently opposed by management. Of course, you can sell you stock and trade one corporation with weak shareholder rights for another with weak shareholder rights.

As to conservatives no credibity on the issue of corporate welfare. For anything that goes wrong it is always the work, consumer, government, but never the masters of the universe.

flap ears and success
seems he is the typical leftie. His success counts and the money he piled up from the ghost written books that were more like love letters to himself are fully earned and his to do as he wants.

And 4 days before he took the oath of office, he signs a book contract which will pay him $500,000 advance to rewrite one of his bio's and a book to be written later.

But oddly enough there is no outcry against flap ears greed and using the presidency to line his pockets.

Guess success for socialists has a whole different meaning than success for capitalists.

But the idea that flap ears was a humble community organizer doesn't stand up to the millionaire he is today. Seems like many leftist elitists living large is okay for them but not for those who believe in capitalism

Denise
Maybe in theory, but the fact is CEO's have recieved extraordinary compensation even in the face of their own apparent failure.

Love it!

High corporate compensation is not the problem. It is an absence of accountability in which failure gets you bonuses.

Dodd, Frank, and Shumer betrayed their ideology by acting like Republicans. Republican on the other hand proudly do the bidding of corporate interests.

Welfare - A Liberal Ponzi Scheme
Denise offers, "At least the mainstream tea party movement can attract THOUSANDS... and, they were protesting corporate welfare, a subject with which I agree..."

I, also, agree. Welfare is a tax created for political exploitation. Get rid of all welfare!

Welfare's only real beneficiary is the Government, which skims the intended tax to grow bigger and more powerful.

Politicians love Welfare, it exploits votes, gets them elected, rich and powerful --- all at the same time! Plus, it creates more poverty for more Welfare, votes, money and power! It just keeps getting better!

Madoff would have made a great Democrat. They love Ponzi Schemers!

cactushead...
Well put, good points.

The whole problem with Libs and thier ilk is their obvious, jealous, petty hubris. They are the original "do as I say, not as I do" crowd. Also notable is their ability to work folks into a frenzy and play "goalie" with the facts.

I especially get a chuckle when a politician promises to "tax the rich". As if he/she is not of the "rich" class. Another laughable tidbit is how liberal politicians somehow have this reputation as being for the "little guy" and the conservatives are the "wolves stuck in the henhouse". Such BS - it's a fact that conservatives give higher proportions of their income to charities than liberals. Conservatives helped the civil rights legislation to become law while liberals fought against it.

Revisionist history is an amazing tool - the libs have perfected its use over the years - and the result is sitting in the WH, playing "president" while the rest of us fret over our futures.

Hypocrisy
AIG execs got money the was written BACK IN to the bailout.....We had pitchforks and lynch mobs!

Fannie and Freddie Execs got EVEN MORE in bailout money.......crickets.......

Ironically......the dems have put a brand on wall street that it is the excess of the GOP and free markets that did it. UPon further research, we find that MORE MONEY was given to Dems than GOP.

So..The wall st guys knew what was going on......they relied upon the support of the Dems to keep the party going....as no one in the party of the moonbats knows the first thing about money, economics, etc, etc......

Look at our own granmasta 0......the man has never had a job, and most likely has never had to do legitimate budgeting in his life......
Like all good liberals....I am sure he believes that things just magically appear....

McSame2008
So you're suggesting that Morris is angling for an Obama appointment?

Acting like...
JMO51, you wouldn't have the first clue about how a Republican acts...so don't even.

Dodd/Frank/Shumer/Obama/et al. are pulling the wool over yours, mine, and everyone's eyes. You are a willing participant in the biggest rape and plunder seen in some time.

I challenge you to explain to us all exactly how what HopeyBoy and Joe the Plagerist are attempting to pull-off differs in what you blindly call "acting like a Republican".

Let's be real here - power is the drug that's driving the whole show. That's what the Democrats really want. They want to keep the man down and dependent on the gubmint so as to keep 'earning' their votes. God forbid a CEO work his way to the top and earn a decent compensation package in return. Sure some of them fail...but apparently, we'd rather see people sitting on their porch steps earning that money for nothing instead.

Is that how it is?

Separation Of Business &State Works Best
JMO51 offers, "Dodd, Frank, and Shumer betrayed their ideology by acting like Republicans."

What on earth are you going on about?

Dodd, Frank and gang have injected government management of mortgage enterprises. Heck, they forced Fannie and Freddie into backing politically correct, high risk mortages, with America as the guarantor.

Mortgagers are risk averse. Dodd, Frank and gang, made them high risk explorers.

As far as I know, this seems pretty basic theory of Democrats: State runs businesses for politically correct reasons. Thus, we have economical melt-down.

Republicans have always promoted the separation of businesses and State.

CEOs, Pols, and Failure..
Apparently JMO51 has a problem with corporate CEOs and the like are rewarded for failure with bonuses and perks.

Apparently JMO51 also doesn't like the fact that, according to him, "republicans do the bidding for corporate interests".

Apparently enough though - JMO51 is perfectly fine with Democratic lawmakers like Bill Clinton, Bawney Fwank, Shumer, Dodd, Ted Kennedy, etc. are rewarded for THEIR failures.

Apparently enough - JMO51 is perfectly cool with having a ManBoy in the White House, a neophyte so green behind the ears he's being tapped as an alternative energy source, fail abjectly in his first 3 months. Hey JM - why don't we check on HIS compensation? His Pension? HIS post-"presidency" benefit packages?

Apparently enough still - JM051 is perfectly OK with criminals and shady characters in positions of power and their fingers on the triggers of our nation...for example:
Kennedy the murderer...
Biden the plagerist...
Frank/Dodd/Shumer the major players in the Fannie/Freddie problems...
Obama the possible Muslim/possible Kenyan/possible American who may have lied on inauguration day but is in no hurry to prove yay or nay...

Please advise...

Comments about the Poor
If the poor today are the same as the poor of 10, 15 even 20 years ago.....The problem IS WITH THE PERSON....not the system.

The US contstitution guarantees the right to freely pursue your own success unencumbered by the government. It guarantees the right....it does not guarantee success.....and these days it seems that even that NEEDS to be guaranteed.....or it is someone elses fault (THE RICH...THOSE SOB's!!) and its those "someone elses" that have to pay.

My income has increased 6x since entering the workforce. My recipe....

I am exceedingly tired of the dems croaking about the poor...
They know exactly what they are doing, however......

Claim to be for the poor...which is noble, but they really don't give a sh!t about them.

Claim to be for the unions...while not giving a sh!t about them.

Claim to be for the teachers...while not giving a sh!t about them.

And now they claim to be for immigrants and immigrant rights....while not giving a sh!t about them.

Why? Votes.
Nothing more....than Votes.
Anything to keep a lib in power.

It pays to follow the money....any big money will see the dems sucking up to it if only to suck more of it from the donor for their own purposes.

If Liberals really were for unions.....they would back the many things that allow unions to survive......but here we have unions giving votes to liberals....and the thanks from the liberals is:
Bankrupt Coal
Bankrupt Automotive and those yucky polluting cars.
Bankrupt Oil
And a week attempt at legislating power back to Unions by virtue of Card Check that WILL chase more jobs to Mexico and China.

The economy will always trump politics....always.

There are no principled Liberals........

Big Checks Make For Big Dreams!
JMO51 offers, "Maybe in theory, but the fact is CEO's have recieved extraordinary compensation even in the face of their own apparent failure."

So, who cares?

These are not government employees. These CEO's shopped their skills, just like you. They went to the highest bidders, just like you.

If you don't like their salaries, don't invest in them with your money or your patronage. This is pretty simple stuff.

You have got to be a Liberal. Only a Liberal would be jealous of other people's paychecks, instead of seeing it as an expansion of a horizon.

Granite Eagle...
Very well put...head of the class for you my friend!

One needs to always take a liberal with a huge grain of salt...for the reasons you specified and too many more to list, their thinly vailed concern for the "middle class" and their attempts to sound like they "care" are nothing but a big old scam to win votes and thus, suck in more power.

Unfortunately over half the population bought in to the scam...and WHY?

Because it was DIFFERENT from BUSH!

People let their obscene hatred for George Bush sway them into falling for one of the biggest, slickest marketing campaigns in the history of man...although, unlike a media ad campaign, it's not like you can turn off the TV, turn the page, or not buy the product. We're stuck with it...no returns, no refunds, no exchanges...for 3 more years.

Mac...
Here here!

JM, give it up, you're getting slammed. I actually feel sorry for ya.

Most normal people see an executive awarded compensation for reaching the pinnacle of his/her profession and think of it as a goal for themselves to shoot for...

A liberal is jealous and envious at said executive...however the same liberal has no issue with an empty-headed bimbo like Paris Hilton achieve fame and fortune for doing NOTHING...

LIBERTY IS THE ONLY STIMULUS WE NEED!

Remember reading about the 1920-21 Depression?

No, huh? Here's why!!!

http://www.reteaparty.com/

"About nine years before the onset of the Great Depression, a short, but severe depression struck t he US around 1920.

* The one-year drop in the GNP price deflator was the steepest ever in US history.

* The one-year plunge in wholesale prices was the worst in recorded history.

* The ratio in percentage decline of the GNP price deflator compared to real GNP was the worst ever.

* Unemployment more than doubled.

How did the US recover so quickly?

"President Warren Harding, who actually INHERITED a $25 BILLION debt (remember it was 1920) from the previous administration, implemented.

Pres Harding...
* CUT FEDERAL SPENDING BY 21%

* began to PAY OFF NATIONAL DEBT

* CUT TAXES ON CORPORATE REVENUES “EXCESS” PROFITS

* REFUSED TO BAIL OUT FAILED BANKING & BUSINESS INSTITUTIONS.

As a result, by 1922,

* GNP rebounded 6%

* unemployment dropped 43% to 6.7% overall

"This astonishingly quick rebound from a severe, one-year depression served as a springboard to the “Roaring ’20s.”

Compared to the recovery of FDR’s “New Deal”. From 1933-1940, unemployment averaged 17%.
Unlike Harding, FDR significantly
* raised taxes
* increased government debt
* bailed out a number of banks & businesses
* launched massive, public works projects.

Compare to the recovery plan of Hussein Obama.

Oh, you know WHY we didn't read about the 1920-1921 Depression? It was barely a blip in our economic history!

"Limited government, spending cuts, tax cuts, and free market capitalism work."

LIBERTY IS THE ONLY STIMULUS WE NEED!

Who are Poor?
I'll bet that the bottom quintile is made up mostly of people living on skimpy government checks. It is shocking to see 25% of elderly women poor and living on Social Security checks of $450/mo. I favor a flat benefir for all recipients. Now that would be $1100/mo. That would eliminate the worst poverty in one stroke. As usual, the government is the problem.

Should we blame Reagan or Carter for that one?

Excessive Taxation Is Tyranny
Excessive Taxation is Tyranny. Usurping the U.S. Constitution is Treason. Violations of the U.S. Constitution were crimes, but now its crimes for some and not for all. Failure to pay taxes ever was a crime, but not its a crime for some and a mistake for others because they are held up as "intellectuals." Government interference with free enterprise was not allowed, but now it's trampling on businesses big and small. AIG contributed to Obama's campaign fund and got billions more than once and entangled U.S. with Sharia Law Financing. Obama sent $20.3 million of our bail out money to Pakistan so refugees could migrate to America on the backs of the unemployed Americans who are being thrown crumbs - $100 more in unemployment but no jobs - and the rest who are hanging on by a thread and still working are being told they'll get $40 per which is taxable of their own tax money that was stolen and then more printed that they can pay back - are again to be thankful for the crumbs being tossed at them - while Obama eats fine foods; dresses in fine clothes; passes out our tax dollars to AIG and foreign bankers in the billions - gives millions to Planned Parenthood - and gay rights who want to throw everyone else in jail for speaking out or protesting peacefully - Yes, Obama brought change to America - but who the heck is he and how many names does he have and social security numbers which use to be a crime, too, according to the lawsuits filed across the nation that the U.S. Justice Department and the U.S. Justices ignore pending what?

Bush Was Liberal At Home vs Hawk Abroad
Koolmuse offers, "Wasn't Bush Ever President?"

Yes. Domesticly, he was pure Democrat. You never saw any praise, here. There was some glimmer of hope when he tried to pursue private retirement options and curtail Fannie and Freddie. But, he had troops in harms way and gave in to Democrats to get money for troops.

Now, we have a president that is Bush, on steroids, domesticly.

Just as with Bush, don't look for any praise, here.

Thanks. I cannot claim my take on the States and the contractual nature of the Constitution is original. If you take a look at some of the content in the various Amendment X resolutions that have been passed by various States, some of the language touches on this issue, perhaps not as directly as I've stated it, but it is there.

For example see:

Oh, and by the way the word again, is "proliferate". Look it up. Learn something.

"and Bush/GOP absolved the wealthy elite from paying taxes."

Wow...really?? That's something...

Pretty scintillating thought - if only for the fact that the wealthy pay the majority of the taxes in this country - it isn't even CLOSE.

oh, and by the way, the word again is "scintillating". Go look it up. Learn 2 things in one day...surprise us all.

"Did you forget that the debts, deficits were all left behind by him?"

No. He has been chastized vehemently here for them. You do realize that they PALE to near-insignificance in relation to the debts and deficits now being run up by his successor, don't you?

"Did you forget that Obama's been President for three months?"

No, but only a complete buffoom suffers from the imbecilic delusion that the same tactics that have NEVER worked before, have always made things worse and are, in fact, identical to those used by Bush at the end of his term whould be given more time (to fail even more spectacularly, I guess) before it is pointed out that the emperor has no clothes.

"What is wrong with you freaks?"

Unlike talking point liberals, we are capable of doing basic research, understanding how the economy works (something about which our self-proclaimed real estate attorney demonstrably knows nothing ... kind of like constitutional history and law) and dealing with reality...

Talking point liberals would rather demonstrate (vocally and repeatedly) that they are "isolated ... from the human race.... reality.. and the truth" and then have the temerity to act as if others have that problem.

It would be funny if it weren't so tragic.

Democrats Exploit Poverty For Power!
Koolmuse offers, "What the government needs to do is tax the wealthy elite 90% like they used to do. And use the money to "promote the general welfare"."

The preamble to the Constitution offers, "... to provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare ...", not the other way around as you propose.

The best way to promote general welfare is to cut taxes to the bone! No system on earth has delivered more people from poverty than the competitive, free market capitalism. No other! So, why not use it? Answer: Democrats need poor people to exploit for votes -- more poverty, more votes.

The poor suffer all taxes proportionately more than any other group.

The Rich are the ones that legislate high taxes. Do you know of one Congressman, Senator or President that is poor? Do you think that they would ever hurt themselves with taxes? Are you crazy?

Rich people simply pass all taxes on to goods and services and give themselves a raise accordingly. How dumb are you?

So, goods and services go up and poor people get poorer. Plus, the barely above water, sink into poverty. You Liberals have got this Ponzi scheme down pat. Rob the Rich, skim off the top and impoverish more citizens to your liking. Heck, they might even vote Democrat and create even more voting poor. What a racket! Sweet!

You could tax 100% of my income, which would become non-existent since I would cease to work altogether and fire everyone that works for me, and not touch my wealth.

Rock of Taxes

Noggin of Wealth

Taxes and wealth are not the same thing. The Kennedys could not work a day in their lives, renounce all dividends, sell an asset at a capital loss and fail to legally pay a penny, ONE PENNY, in taxes.

Accumulated wealth has already been taxed. It can be passed on through generations. It CANNOT be seized by the Federal government under Kelo or any other caselaw.

In fact, if I reinvest all of my profits and live off of principal, you will pay more in taxes playing music at some rave than will I.

Got it? Consider it free tax/legal advice and my contribution to sharing the wealth.

Koolmuse, you are cool! Why stop taxing the rich at 90% though?? Let's make it 99% !! But let's also throw them in prison to make sure they don't leave the country with any of "their" wealth!

If you're thinking I'm being sarcastic, you're right; however, what I suggested is not that different from what you proposed.

Muse: Card Check Or Draft Card?
President Barack Obama requested new funding from Congress for the conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan, but he risks a backlash from antiwar lawmakers.

Mr. Obama is expected to seek congressional approval of, at least, $75.5 billion for the wars, perhaps as soon as Thursday. The issue is already raising tensions on Capitol Hill, especially among liberals who are sympathetic to the president's broader agenda but voice concerns about his timeline for withdrawal of troops from Iraq and his plans to beef up forces in Afghanistan.

"I can't imagine any way I'd vote for it," said Rep. Lynn Woolsey, a California Democrat and leader in the 77-member congressional Progressive Caucus. It would be her first major break with this White House.

Ms. Woolsey fears the president's plan for Iraq would leave behind a big occupation force of, at least, 50,000 troops. She is also concerned about the planned escalation in Afghanistan. "I don't think we should be going there," she said.

Similar sentiments echo across the House. Rep. Jim McGovern (D., Mass.) said he fears Afghanistan could become a quagmire. "I just have this sinking feeling that we're getting deeper and deeper into a war that has no end," he said.

Rep. John Conyers (D., Mich.) dismissed Mr. Obama's plans as "embarrassingly naive," and suggested that the president is being led astray by those around him. "He's the smartest man in American politics today," Rep. Conyers said. "But he occasionally gets bad advice and makes mistakes. This is one of those instances."

Since we seem to be going it alone into a wider engagement, I would quit dreaming about Card Check and start worrying about your Draft Card.

Fletch1 a question
can you cite any examples from the past where the u.s. federal govenment bailout of the auto industry failed?

Leftangle
It was the "chikenhawk" conservative Republicans that have been fighting our war and supporting our war. Now, as we all expected, you say you've been supporting it all along, and, actually, it's we who are th "chickenhawks" now. Where are the protesters, Leftangle? Where's the "Bush Lied, People Died" crowd? Where's the "this is Bush's illegal war for oil" crowd? Where's Cindy Sheehan?! I thought Obama ran on the campaign promise to "I'LL SET A TIMELINE!!! BRING OUR TROOPS HOME WITHIN 6 MONTHS!!!" Ya'll disappeared since Obama/Soetoro took office.

You do know his name is not "barack hussein obama". But, his real name is "Barry Soetoro". He's hiding more than just his birthplace in his birth certificate.

Still not so KOOL...
"Anti-1st Amendment TownHall censors prevent me from using the real word for arzhole."

[sarcasm on] Really??? WWWOWWWWW you're soooo clever!! Did you come up with that all by yourself?? Can I be KOOL like yoouuuu??? WOWWWWW!![sarcasm off]

Save it d***hebag...

"If you really don't know what I meant you are hopelessly stupid."

And how stupid are YOU that you can't recognize the obviously plain fact that I was JOKING?

"If Bush won his two wars what the f--k is the USA still doing in both countries."

It's called keeping the peace and preventing civil war you insipid, useless twit. Excuse me...where's Saddam Hussien? GONE. Excuse me again - when was our last terrorist attack? Still 9/11.

"Failing to get Binladen and WMDs...Bush war objectives... means he lost."

ZZZZZZZZZZZZZ - same old boring, run of the mill, liberal sqwaking points - you guys really need some new material.

"Obama has finally developed a realistic strategy."

HAHAHAHAHAAAAA!! What's that - Appeasement and ArseKissing 101?? Yea, go over to the Saudi king and kiss his ring...pet his little doggie...go tell everyone that America is SORRY...HAHAHAHAHAAAA!! Great "strategy"! You moron.

"We recognize Obama is bailing out the companies. You hate him for it. My point is you can't admit that Bush did it first."

You never asked me to admit that Bush did it first YOU DORK...if you HAD asked me I would have admitted it.

No - you are touting out the same old liberal complaint...Bush caused EVERYTHING...that's the problem I have with you and your group.

Still not so KOOL pt. 2
"Bush...who was on vacation over in Texas...told Brownie, his appointed head of FEMA that he was doing a great job while thousands died from neglect of FEMA."

Says the MSM. Where was old Mayor of Chocolate Town? What did HE do to rectify the situation? Tell everyone to crowd into the Superdome like cattle, that's what!!

Once again, semantics mean everything in a blog/post and if you had taken the time to write correctly instead of trying to be KOOL, you wouldn't look like such a complete D**CHE. You wrote, and I quote, "Did you forget Katrina?"...what about Katrina? Did Bush command the heavens to rain down on New Orleans? That's what YOU inferred, Mary.

"Oprah? What the f--k are you babbling about?"

To paraphrase a really "KOOL" guy, "If you didn't recognize what I was writing then you must be stupid". Sound familiar?

"Bush left the highest debts and deficits and a ruined world economy behind. What the f--k it has to do with Oprah...are you delusional or what?"

Once again, Bush did it all. Barney Frank didn't have anything to do with it, nor did Dodd or Shumer or Nancy Pelosi..NOOOO - Bush did it all! Bush is going to help the Washington Capitals win the Stanley Cup this year...then he's gonna pass for the Winning TD in the Super Bowl for the Eagles!! Bush is GOD!!

Liberals PreferTaxingPeople Into Poverty
Left Angle offers, "No what you actually mean is REPUBS/CONS HATE PAYING TAXES..ABSOLUTELY DETEST IT..."

Actually, we don't detest anyone paying taxes, because taxes creates poverty. So, for us, taxes, on anyone, should be bare boned, minimum to satisfy the Constitutional mission and minimze poverty.

Liberals don't care about poverty. Heck, to a Liberal poverty is a pool of votes --- the more the better! So, tax at will!

As Obama has made clear, Tax Justice (or, Redistribution of Wealth) is the goal, not poverty eradication. Tax is a system of despotic power -- it syphons citizen's freedoms and power over to the State.

Fletch: Bailouts DONT Work?
you stated:

"No, but only a complete buffoom suffers from the imbecilic delusion that the same tactics that have NEVER worked before, have always made things worse and are, in fact, identical to those used by Bush at the end of his term whould be given more time (to fail even more spectacularly, I guess) before it is pointed out that the emperor has no clothes."

I beg to differ please explain:

The History of U.S. Bailouts..please pay close attention when you click on the "what happened" section in each case.

Did you get lost on your way to the playground, son?

Put the bottle of Muskatel or Schlitz Malt Liquor down and listen up, you trailer-dwelling piece of dung:

"No what you actually mean is REPUBS/CONS HATE PAYING TAXES..ABSOLUTELY DETEST IT..."

No s**t sherlock. Do you like paying taxes?

Oh that's right, I forgot. You DON'T pay taxes so you DON'T know what it's like. You can't like/not like something if you don't know what it is.

But you LOVE that gov-mint hand out don't you?

"Which is pretty typical of you "real ah-mur- kans" on the right wing ,who stand up with your hands over you hearts at ballgames saluting the flag and prazing ah-mur-i-ka.."

Why are you here? I mean, besides the free stuff?

Isn't there a burkah with your name on it somewhere in Iraq?

"truth be told you want to live in this country for free and fight wars as long as some one else is doing the "actual fighting" chickenhawks that you are... "

Chickenhawks...HAHAHAHA that's a good one.

No, I think this is the more accurate picture...if I may:

You, a loser trailer-dwelling good-for-nothing unemployed schlep, would rather get a free hand-out paid for by the so-called "rich" and their tax dollars (that they just can't wait to pay). Meanwhile, when that monthly check comes in, after paying off your bookie and your dealer and after getting yet another tattoo and after paying off all of your baby-mommies, you might just have enough to buy you a coupla packs-a USA1000 ciggys and some Boone's Farm Apple and a few lotto tix, 'cause we-uns gonna win that there lotter-ay!! Oh shoot-howdy, that there toilet is backin' up into the trailer but shooooot - can't afford to fix'er...needs my trip to the Ole Country Buffet!

Now THAT's what being a "real ah-mur-i-kan" is to you, right?

Loser Angle: NO, Bailouts DON'T Work!

I'll repeat...

* Unemployment more than doubled.

* GNP rebounded 6%

* unemployment dropped 43% to 6.7% overall

"This astonishingly quick rebound from a severe, one-year depression served as a springboard to the “Roaring ’20s.”

Compared to the recovery of FDR’s “New Deal”. From 1933-1940, unemployment averaged 17%.
Unlike Harding, FDR significantly
* raised taxes
* increased government debt

LIBERTY IS THE ONLY STIMULUS WE NEED!

read the website provided below. you are WRONG.

Since you and yours keep bringing up Katrina, it might be of interest to you to know...

THAT THE DEMOCRATIC MAYOR, RAY "CHOCOLATE CITY" NAGIN, AND THE ENTIRE CITY HALL is now under FEDERAL INVESTIGATION FOR CORRUPTION FOR THEIR ROLE IN HANDLING KATRINA DOLLARS, AMONG OTHER THINGS.

And, BTW, the Democratic Governor, Kathleen Babineaux Blanco, pulled an LBJ and did not even seek her party's nomination for re-election.

Were you one of the guys that stole a flat-screen during the blackout after Katrina and, when asked how he was going to get it to work, he replied, "The Wall"? Eyes plugz it intos zee wall and it works!

First things first
The problem at the heart of all our recent turmoil and indecision is that on the whole the American people have either lost sight of what this nation is truly all about, or they've been taught an alternative history that precludes things like personal responsibility, civic duty, free markets, a strong military, and a distrust of centralized power in the hands of the few.

I read this great piece on this very topic today. Check it out.
