Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

GM, now renamed Government Motors, has a new CEO: President Barack Obama. By replacing the head of the company and demanding a restructuring of its board in return for further financial TARP aid, Obama has taken upon himself the responsibility for the future of the company. As Gen. Colin Powell said when Bush was considering invading Iraq and toppling the Saddam Hussein government, "If you break it, you own it." Now it is Obama's company.

This move will backfire big-time! The auto giant is very, very unlikely to be saved by this current TARP infusion. Doubtless, it will need more in the near term. But the resentment now focused on the management of the company will then turn to Obama. Having demanded a replacement of the management, it is he who will be held responsible for the company's future.

And, each time GM asks for more money, Obama will face a choice: take personal responsibility for laying off 100,000 autoworkers or anteing up the additional cash. By intruding himself so deeply into the management of the company, Obama makes himself central to its future. If Obama lets the company fail, having already extended credit, he will have all of Michigan on his case. If he keeps coming up with more and more tax money, he will earn the contempt of the voters.

Socialism has its price. By taking over the management of a company, you become the determinant of its fate in the public's mind.

Obama does not seem to realize that government takeover is the beginning, not the end, of the problem. He should have stuck with being president and leave making cars to others.

And, as the new CEO of General Motors, what will his policy be on corporate compensation? Will the public tolerate his letting his new company pay salaries sufficient to attract the talent necessary to salvaging the firm? Or will he have to rely on a bunch of kids right out of school, willing to work for one or two hundred thousand a year, for the company's salvation?

When it comes to the hard work of cutting retiree health benefits, reducing salaries, laying off workers and closing plants, is Obama willing to resist calls for his intervention? Is he up for getting the blame for all the "heartless" measures GM will have to take to salvage its future? He has put himself squarely in a position to pay a steep political price for his assumption of power in GM.

Most troubling is the sense that Obama cannot have thought this through. He can't have planned this. President Clinton used to say at strategy meetings that we needed to think three or four moves ahead and not just "kick the can down the road." Obama is clearly not following his predecessor's advice.

He realized GM needed money. He knew the public would have a fit if he gave it. So he decided that he would appease his electorate by exacting blood from the company's management and directors by using his guillotine on some of its old grey heads.

But, had he thought before he acted, he would have realized that it would have been far better to have criticized GM from a distance even as he extended more money rather than to, in effect, take over the company.

The president's protestations that the government does not want to own a car company are quite beside the point. It's his now, and he better figure out what to do with it.

GM Takeover
Sad thing the president does know what he is going to do with GM.It is the American people who do not know. The erosion of our manufacturing base has far reaching problems that have been felt for many years now. And the entire nation not just auto workers and those related to or dependent on the auto industry will pay the price. Downward pressure on wages outright job loss are already happening in a broad sweep across America. But the worst is still to come. If this leftist shift and outright power grab is not stopped, in 4 years we will not resemble the country we once were. People will not, really cannot accept just how far and how quickly this great nation can be taken apart, or what life will become for us all. Simple truth is no one anywhere from border to border will be safe. There is no such thing as a safe job. How much is your piece of the American dream worth? What are you willing to do to preserve it? Today it's GM. Tomorrow who will it be?

Just More Dirty Tricks By Dems !!!
Eric Holder has decided to void the Ted Stevens conviction. How convenient for the Democrats that he was convicted just in time to cause him to lose his election.

I am no Ted Stevens fan,but I have said all along this was a trumped up charge because the Democrats needed his seat. This is shameful!

I think he is ratting out other senators and this is a payoff to silence him.He should sue the pants off someone. This is a travesty that a senator's life can be ruined just to take his seat. The election should also be voided!!

Obama...
...couldn't coach an 7-yr old Soccer team without a freaking teleprompter, and he thinks he can run GM? Morris has hit it dead square - but it's even worse - he's going to face either the wrath of the general public for pumping money to this broken company, or the wrath of Michigan as well as other states where GM Plants will be closed. Fluffo REALLY hasn't thought ONE move ahead, forget three or four. Areas with GM Plants are HUGELY dependent on those plants for their local/regional economy. They might be solidly 60-65% democrat now, but shutter a plant and devastate the local economy and they'll turn away from the morons (Dems) that did it in a heartbeat.

BTW...if Fluffo wants to extract money from eople who are overpaid, why not go after Hollywood? or the NBA? or Hannah Montana?

Where's this B--lS--t end???

The point
The point is NOT whether Obama can help GM. The point is that what he did is unconstitutional and un-American! The man is a socialist dictator.

An expensive lesson
Obama has never managed anything. He has never had to live with the consequences of his decisions. Most managers have a chance to make this type of mistake early in their careers -- they make an expedient decision, and a year later they have a worse problem on their hands. It's humbling, but you learn.

Clinton was a governor -- he knew this from experience. But Obama has lived in the hothouse world of far left ideologues and University profs -- he has never had to eat his own cooking. He has been able to vote "present", and talk out of both sides of his mouth with no consequences. Not now.

It is an expensive lesson for him ... and for the world.

CRAZY BARRY'S AUTOMART!
Come on down! We're making crazy deals all day and into the night at Crazy Barry's!

Now that the largest corporation in the country has become nationalized, with the government paying its bills, hiring and firing its leadership, and pushing through an energy cap-and-spend tax that will determine what kind of cars people will have to want to buy, let me just ask it once more again:

DOES ANYBODY BELIEVE THAT THE CURRENT ADMINISTRATION DOES NOT WANT TO NATIONALIZE THE BANKS?

Since last Summer, the gubmint has taken over the housing industry, the auto industry, the real estate market, and massive chunks of the Wall Street Financial Scene. (What, in addition to gubmint funding, do all those have in common? That's right, they've all lost massive bundles of money since being taken over!)

So come on down to Crazy Barry's, friends! He's not done makine deals yet -- he's just getting started! How can he continue to offer deals like this? BECAUSE HE'S CRAZY!

Sh'yeah, right. Crazy like a fox.

Last one out of the henhouse, douse the lights please.

No time for myopia
If you step back and take a close look at the bigger picture, Barack Obama is in very deep doo-doo. The national security picture is about to explode, probably literally, all around him, the economy shows no signs of improving, industry if failing in several sectors, our financial infrastructure is in shambles and Obama owns all of it.

The car company fiasco is the least of his worries and this arrogant bumbler has no clue that there is a major breach in the dam even as he puts chewing gum on a leaking pipe.

What Next?
He has not been very sucessful about fixing the Economy which I am almost certain he really does not have a clue on how to fix......Now he is attempting to fix GM?

How much more of this will the American Tax Payer's take of this non-sense.

I smell another Tea Party.

New Cars
Let's see, when GM (Government Motors) start to produce their new line of cars, and seeing that they are Government cars, I bet the starting price will be about $150,000 per car. They'll weight 3 tons, seat 2 small adults, and get 4 mpg in the city. Oh yeah, if your on welfare, they would cost you ZERO, the government will pick up the tab, and give you 10 years free gas. But just rememeber, those Union workers and their elite leadership will be driving Japanese cars and having union gas cards.

Socialist Car Manufacturing
GM sold its soul to the devil for bailout money. Government, the new owner of the company, will produce a lousy car---who ever remembers the Russian automobile. Workers and the union will dictate policy and economics. To save itself, GM should have commenced bankruptcy. However, politics dictated the sell out of the corporate soul to Obama.

What's Obama up to?
Most people acknowledge that he is a bright guy. Yet, this seems like such a big mistake. Does Obama have an ace up his sleeve, some hidden agenda we aren't fathoming? He is clearly an anti-capitalism socialist, perhaps he is going to use GM as a demonstration project. Another idea is that he is so arrogant he thinks he can do anything he wants, and get away with it by making a good speech.

Somewhat off topic, it seems Obama has missed his calling. He should be head of the IRS, adding Sebelius to the tax evaders he has snared.

Kermudjin
What's Obama and gang up to? They have no idea! They just keep trying to see what they can get away with! When the public outcry is too much for them, they scrap the idea. When there is no or little outcry, they push for all they can get. Coherent plan of action is not anything they thought of. They're playing sandlot baseball with touch football rules!

Just another dumb question
Can't help wondering...

Does control of GM give the gubmint control also over the GMAC financing corporation, and in so doing, how many banks did the gubmint just take over as well?

Government-owned
Well, can't be that bad as Chrysler was planning to use Chery (a government-owned Chinese automaker in Anhui)to build its Dodge Hornet, but the economy crash in both China and the US has killed that deal. Dodge (perhaps) will get Nissan to build the Hornet, but I guess Fiat will have much to say on that now.

What REALLY Caused This
Does anyone with even half a functioning brain seriously believe--as Obonzo apparently does--that GM and Chrysler's current problems are really the result of a "lack of leadership"?

I don't. (But then, I happen to have a great deal more than just half a functioning brain).

GM and Chrysler didn't get into this situation just over the last few months. This is a predicament that was more than forty years in the making. And the federal bureaucracy's and the UAW's fingerprints are all over it.

Sixty years of exorbitant union demands and forty years of Washington bureaucratic interference in their operations have brought GM and Chrysler to their knees. To the extent that GM and Chrysler have suffered from a "lack of leadership", it's because their executives weren't free to exercise much "leadership" as a result of constraints from Washington and the union leadership.

Somewhere, Ralph Nader is chortling with glee. Barack Obonzo accomplished what he couldn't. He killed General Motors.

As a dyed-in-the-wool Chevrolet guy, it hurts to say this, but Ford Motor Company looks really good right now.

I can't believe I'm about to type this..
I own a Chevy truck, but if I had the money, I'd buy a Ford tomorrow. It pains me to write this, but GM has sold its soul to the devil by taking money from the feds and now it will dance to his tune. As far as I'm concerned, there is only one American car company: Ford.
