Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton is finding that her job description is dissolving under her feet, leaving her with only a vestige of the power she must have thought she acquired when she signed on to be President Obama's chief Cabinet officer.

Since her designation:

• Vice President Biden has moved vigorously to stake out foreign policy as his turf. His visit to Afghanistan, right before the Inauguration, could not but send a signal to Hillary that he would conduct foreign policy in the new administration, leaving Hillary in the role of backup.

• Richard Holbrooke, the former Balkan negotiator and U.N. ambassador, has been named special envoy to Afghanistan and Pakistan. He insisted on direct access to the president, a privilege he was denied during much of the Clinton years.

• Former Sen. George Mitchell (D-Maine), negotiator of the Irish Peace Accords, was appointed to be the administration's point man on Arab-Israeli negotiations.

• Samantha Powers, Obama's former campaign aide, who once called Hillary a "monster," has been appointed to the National Security Council (NSC) as director of "multilateral affairs."

• Gen. James L. Jones, Obama's new national security adviser, has announced an expansion of the membership and role of the NSC. He pledges to eliminate "back channels" to the president and wants to grow the NSC's role to accommodate the "dramatically different" challenges of the current world situation.

• Susan Rice, Obama's new United Nations ambassador, insisted upon and got Cabinet rank for her portfolio, and she will presumably also have the same kind of access to Obama that she had as his chief foreign policy adviser during the campaign.

So where does all this leave Secretary of State Clinton?

While sympathy for Mrs. Clinton is outside the normal fare of these columns, one cannot help but feel that she is surrounded by people who are, at best, strangers and, at worst, enemies. The competition that has historically occupied secretaries of State and national security advisers seems poised to ratchet up to a new level in the current administration.

Hillary's essential problem is that she is an outsider in the current mix. She was the adversary in the campaign, and Rice and Powers -- at the very least -- know it well, having helped to run the campaign that dethroned her. Can they -- and she -- be devoid of bitterness or at least of normal human trepidation? Not very likely.

The fact is that the power of the secretary of State is not statutory, nor does it flow from the prestige of the post's occupant. Former Gen. Al Haig, once supreme commander of NATO and chief of staff to President Nixon, found that out when he was undercut as secretary by the White House troika of Mike Deaver, James Baker and Ed Meese. Bill Rogers, Eisenhower's attorney general and Nixon's California confidant, found himself on the outs from the moment he became secretary of State, with Henry Kissinger soaking up all the power through his direct access to Nixon as national security adviser.

The power of the secretary of State flows directly from the president. But Hillary does not have the inside track with Obama. Rice and Powers, close advisers in the campaign, and Gen. Jones -- whose office is in the White House -- all may have superior access. Holbrooke and Mitchell will have more immediate information about the world's trouble spots.

So what is Hillary's mandate? Of what is she secretary of State? If you take the Middle East, Afghanistan and Pakistan out of the equation, what is left? One would have to assume that the old North Korea hands in the government would monopolize that theater of action. What, precisely, is it that Hillary is to do? The question lingers.

And for this she gave up a Senate seat?

Whoops!
I wondered why he let her in there. That attorney who is directing his affairs must be pretty cagey. Oh, well, you know what they say, couldn't happen to a nicer person.
As for the cabinet secs, I felt most were figureheads and didn't matter. The ones that do matter are in energy and environmental activist areas. They can do enormous damage to the country and will based on the choices he made.

Community Organizer
He is a man that is sensitive to his needs. So he keeps his enemies close and ineffective. We may owe him some thanks for isolating a political pariah.

Let's hope his presidency and world leadership skills(?) are greater than the sum of his community organizing and inexperienced senate parts.

poor missus clinton
although she is an annoying individual and a pathetic excuse for a human being she probably deserves better from the messiah for her loyalty and support of the failed dim policies and would help the clueless clown from chicago who is imitating a president and doing a bad job with that.

But i wonder how the missus clinton feels about getting rear ended by someone who won, not on ability but on his skin color and ability to read a teleprompter.

The messiah has proven the job is more than he can handle but that won't stop the msm and the lefties from their love affair with the fool

WOW!
It's hard to imagine Hillary as the most capable foreign policy advisor in the administration, but if nothing else she knows better than to negotiate from a position of weakness. That is more than we can can say for Mr. Obama and Mr. Biden.

Here's hoping and praying no major international incidents occur in the next 4 years!

I Can't Say Thanks Loud Enough
I am so glad to see her shrinking, in fact, when they completely disappear we will all be the better for it. And then... just four years of P.O. to endure

Shrinking but dangerous
Can't say that I feel sorry for the incredible shrinking Hillary Clinton, or that I will miss her. But, those who forget just how potent her venom is, may live to regret it. President Obama made a huge mistake with her nomination.

Linda,
Florida

Facinating really.
When I noted VP Biden making the tour of Europe, I wondered why Sec. Clinton wasn't given that assignment as the Administration's first point liaison to allies and the world.

The presence of Mr. Holbrooke is anything but reassuring for her mandate. If anything, Mr. Holbrooke will be the Kissinger to Sec. Clinton's Bill Rogers.

I'll anticipate her taking her leave if this continues by waiting for an arrhythmia in the Foreign Policy and then decrying the Administration's conduct and setting herself apart as the one that stood alone, Cassandra like and prophetic.

Ms. Clinton in the shunted background is potentially as dangerous to the President as Clytemnestra was for Cassandra.

So much for the "world's smartest woman"
She's toast, a footnote in History.

I had an inkling that picking Hillary for State was an effective way to de-fang her. Had she gone back to the Senate, she could have been a thorn in BO's side, and he certainly didn't want her as VP.

I'll wager she resigns in two years so she can run against Lord Obama. POTUS is the job she really, REALLY WANTS! By the time the next pres election gets cranked up, Barama will have mucked up things so badly, his own party will be ready to toss him overboard.

Iran and N. Korea is is Hillary's Reign
Remember Bill negotiated the first non-treaty, treaty where the N. Koreans 'promised' not develop nuclear weapons or programs. That is where Bill will be returning with Hillary taking notes to remind them of their initial treaty that is still under contract, should we say. Also, Hillary will be leading the SPECIAL envoy to Iran. Barak wanted her to eat her words when she said 'we should not negotiate with iran'. Now she will be heading the envoy that does that, and to boot, her husband will be an unpaid consultant for the USA, or is he getting paid?

Let's be fair, the woman lacks any necessary experience to be secretary of state, she struck a deal with Barak in order to relinquish her delegates at the DNC convention and campaign for barak. Hillary will also become baraks VP in 2012 when he bids for reelection so her minimal/symbolic role with foreign affairs will make her seem qualified. Then she won't have to make up stories about dodging sniper fire in Bosnia as first lady.

Whose Blackmailing Who?
Do NOT underestimate the Clintons ! They are a pair and they work together. Morris knows that as well as anyone.

They could burst B.Hussein's bubble any time they please. They are NOT on the outside looking in. They are on the inside watching and guiding him in this latest takedown of the financial markets.

George Soros is their mentor. This will be evident in due time. The Democrats are their patsies and are being used. The New World Order is their aim. These are my opinions.

IMPLODING DEMOS
All will be well with America soon as the Demo's have already started to "eat" thier
own...thanks to their Messiah and his expertise atshoving people under the bus.
This will definitely be a weekly "Who's Next"
program that will be playing for the next four years. Stay tuned for who the next victim will be now that Bush is gone. The demise of the Demo party cannot come fast enough!

Rowley
You may be right.
On the other hand, this could have been the keeping your enemies close plan. I wouldn't underestimate the clintons, I don't think they tossed all the opposition research they dug up on O; they may be biding their time. They know where all the bodies are buried and who put them there. And they are probably paying operatives to get as much dirt on O as they can.

Tabitha917
It's pretty comical that you claim WE need to "get a life"...

When Gore lost in 2000 did YOU ..."get a life"
When Kerry lost in 2004 did YOU ..."get a life"
After we went into Iraq did YOU ..."get a life"

Obamboob is a total moron who just sold you into finacial ruin and your kids into permanent poverty and the best you can do is say ..."get a life"

If YOU were not such an uneducated fool by voting for Obamboob the rest of us wouldn't need to worry so much and we might have been able to "get a life"

Unfortunately the Democrats just took ALL our lives away with this Socialist Spendulous Porkzilla!

Young lady why don't you just go back to your welfare office and let us enjouy what is left of OUR LIFE.

Opps, I forgot liberals are totally against LIFE

Tea Party:
My thoughts exactly. Hillary knows all about Obama's citizenship problems. We have not heard the last of her.

Pretty well sums up BO & CO.
"While sympathy for Mrs. Clinton is outside the normal fare of these columns, one cannot help but feel that she is surrounded by people who are, at best, strangers and, at worst, enemies."

LouLouise & Tea Party
I keep thinking I will wake up from this mightmare. How did we lose our country? Greed?

Well, what went around has come around.
Bill Clinton must be having double scotch's.

See our coming Pelosi Scandal on PresidentialBalls.com

We want more
DIck Morris and Eileen McGann unquestionably have evaluated and come to the right conclusions about the situation in which Hillary finds herself. Wouldn't it have been nice if they had ventured some kind of guess as to how Hillary will meet these challenges and you know Hillary will not only meet these challenges but will somehow come out smelling like a rose while doing it. I am disappointed that these columnists only told half the story here and with the continuing saga of Hillary, it is a shame we didn't get even a tiny hint of where the writers expect Hillary to take this.

a (hole)
typical comment from a leftist troll. Discount the message by attacking the messenger.

Funny why you clowns continue to think the child president and false prophet b hussein can walk on water.

The point remains he is clueless concerning the job and only feels comfortable around those kissing his posterior opening.

But anyone who disagrees with him is a target to be thrown under his bus of personal ambition.

Monday night we saw he is intellectually challenged when selected msm people submitted questions beforehand and your messiah had to read the answers his handlers put on his teleprompter. Seems the clueless clown continues to prove is isn't ready to lead. He proves he can't think on his own

Hillary
Whether anyone likes it or not, she has free access to Rahm et al. Also, she may be the de facto administration "behind the scenes" health care specialist

Question "A"

Concerning posting #22:
Do you have any evidence to support your claim?
Just asking.

Hillary should have known better
But what do you expect from a self-aggrandizing person like Hillary? She made her bed she can sleep in it.

Morris's points are spot on and she is going to be frozen out like Rogers was in the Nixon Administration.

NSC is going to be the straw that stirs the foreign policy drink in this Administration. Biden will be runner-up.

Hillary will run for Pres. again in 2012 because Obama is going to do his Carter redux and certainly be a one term president. This guy is going to be a disaster and his economic policies a disaster. Period.

And while he wallows in his economic troubles, which he conveniently blames on Bush (proving Obama has zero class - there is plany of blame to go around on the meltdown on both sides of the aisle), he'll be able to accomplish zero elsewhere in the portfolio of change he ascribes to so disingenuously.

Michelle Hart
Excellent post!

Sorry For Hillary
Hades may have just frozen over because I am about to say something I never thought I would say. I almost feel sorry for Hillary. Mind you I would not vote for the woman for dog catcher of the smallest town in America much less POTUS.

But she has become the latest victim of those who decided that it was time for an African-American president. Women such as Hillary or even Sarah Palin can wait.

Of course the Clintons have been counted out before and risen from the ashes like the legendary phoenix. So stay tuned folks. The worm may turn again.

The Clintons - doom?
Some of you are agreeing with Dick Morris that the Clintons will be frozen out. Others say they will rise like the Phoenix. Time will tell who's right.

I think they lost a lot of their power when the MSM threw them over for Obama. Evidently a lot of their backers (Soros, et al) did, too. So did the voters.

Someone mentioned they knew "where the bodies were buried." My guess is they know because they buried them: Ron Brown (See Ron Brown's Body by Jack Cashill), Vince Foster, etc.

One day I was pondering what kept the two of them together. A thought flashed through my mind: "As long as they are married to each other, they cannot be forced to testify against each other." Self-interest in legal protection, perhaps.

Why are Dick Morris and his wife so
obsessed with Hillary and Bill? Jealous?

A few things
You've had strong Secretary of States (like Kissinger and Baker and Rusk) and weak ones (like Christopher and Rogers and Vance). Power does come from the president--Nixon and Reagan both distrusted State. Rogers knew nothing of foreign policy--Vance was ignored under Carter). We'll see how Hillary does. I expected Rice to be named as SOS. Perhaps Obama will pull a Clinton or a Bush--she stays on for this term (or less) and Rice moves in just as Albright and Rice did replacing Christopher and Powell. I find her rather mindless though. She once called the conflict in the DNC--Africa's World War comparing it to WWI.

While in general WWI was constructed to Europe there were battles and conflicts in Asia, Africa and the Middle East as well. Countries from almost continent on earth save Antartica provided troops--this wasn't the case with the DNC.

LMAO
Poor Hag, ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha too bad heh heh heh............now go away!

SecState Hillary
While The Glorious One has not exactly been impressing me with his political moves the past few weeks I must admit that he did a masterful job of minimalizing his chief rival Hillary. He talks her into accepting the SecState position in his administration, thereby ensuring her support. She can't very well criticize him while in his employ. Then, once she is confirmed, the REAL power players in his administration flex their muscles and mark their territories. Hillary was caught asleep at the switch and is paying the price. The much-vaunted Clinton political prowess appears to have dissipated. I just wonder if she will be bitter enough about being shoved aside to make a break in time for the 2012 primaries? This should be interesting.

Hillary is going to be
next SCOTUS justice.

Hillary WON'T replace Obama in 2012
In reading the posts of many here who still believe that Hillary may make another run in 2012, especially if she feels scorned and insulted by the Obama Administration by then, while several of these suggestions have come from posters I respect, I vehemently disagree that, unless Obama is dead by 2012, Hillary will take away Obama's nomination that year - or even TRY to.

The only way Hillary could POSSIBLY get the Democratic nomination that year WITHOUT driving away major blocks of voters she would need to win the White House in 2012 - starting with blacks - is for Obama to be so unpopular even with Democrats by then that he decides, like Lyndon Johnson did in 1968, it's best for him not to seek re-nomination by his party lest he be publicly humiliated by his repudiation in the primaries, which would allow Hillary to waltz to an open nomination.

The big problem there is that if Obama has been THAT much of a disaster that by then he decides he can't even retain the support of his own party, it is EXTREMELY unlikely that Americans are going to be in a mood at that time to simply replace ONE Democrat in the Oval Office with ANOTHER.

Also, how does Hillary campaign in the general election without having to draw attention to a president she SUPPORTED - publicly, anyway, in 2008 - and in whose administration she actually SERVED? If Democrats thought George Bush was an albatross around John McCain's neck in 2008: how many times HEAVIER an albatross would Obama be around Hillary's neck? And if Hillary poor-mouths Obama during the election campaign: if she hadn't ALREADY lost the black vote before then, she'd DEFINITELY lose it then - in a year in which Hillary's odds of victory are ALREADY unpromising.

Respectfully,
I disagree with the analysis by Dick Morris and Eileen McGann, and am somewhat surprised this has not been picked up by anyone here yet.

IMHO, this turn of events is exactly what Hillary wants and plays into her hands NOT in 2012 but in 2016--she hopes! As shown by my esteemed conservative acquaintances in this forum, even Hillary's opponents have sympathy for her. This will play in her favor when she runs. In addition, 8 years as SOS looks good on her resume regardless of her actual experiences on the job.

But most important to Hillary, not actually PERFORMING SOS activities keeps her out of SNIPER range in foreign countries, stop her from making undignified Albright-like sprints after Arafat-like leaders, and most importantly, keeps "bimbos" out of Bill's bed when she's out of town.

(Yup, just having some fun!)

Gullible Dunderheads
AH in MI could not be more wrong in his analysis of the Morris and McGann analysis. AH offers no credentials or facts as M&M do. AH offers only half-vast opinions and feeble, muddled attempts at humor based on the ridiculous behaviors of the Clintons and Albright.
More in line with method, credibility based on credentials and agreement with M&M I believe Obama has both the Clintons right where and how he wants them.
Unarguably they were the greatest threats to Obama’s Presidency. A Clinton supporter – Phillip Berg- was the first one to file a lawsuit challenging Obama’s eligibility among the three dozen or so, some if not all, still active. Obama owed Teddy and Caroline Kennedy a debt for their endorsement that lifted him out of some of the mire of his nefarious best friends and co-workers in Chicago thug politics. Obama tried to pay off on that by getting Hillary out of the Senate and replacing her with Caroline. NY Gov. Paterson threw a monkey wrench into that scheme.
In accepting the appointment as SecState Hillary opened herself and Bill to yet another publicly-reported examination of their finances and other shady dealings. Bill has a spotlight on his before then somewhat less known profiteering as ex-President on payments from Arab Muslims and others. (cont.)

Gullible Dunderheads - 2
Hillary is out of the Senate, buried and out of sight, out of mind at Foggy Bottom – State’s location in D.C. and a description of State based on some grasp of history – as much as Obama wants to isolate her there in insignificant, bureaucratic chores while others perform the functions of SecState, often in the limelight. Some circumvention of the Constitution even had to be done for Hillary to take the job at a lower (or the same) salary than her predecessor since Bush raised the SecState pay when Hillary was a Senator.
There is also a nasty story circulating via emails about how Bill and Hillary were convinced for her to take the job.
Credentials, in part: Retired military officer, advisor to Presidential appointees, political and public relations consultant, 40 years in D.C. area and with close ties there, plus professor of international relations and national defense courses.
