Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

2009-2010 will rank with 1913-1914, 1933-1936, 1964-1965 and 1981-1982 as years that will permanently change our government, politics and lives.

Just as the stars were aligned for Wilson, Roosevelt, Johnson and Reagan, they are aligned for Barack Obama. Simply put, we enter his administration as free enterprise, market-dominated, laissez-faire America. We will shortly become like Germany, France, the United Kingdom or Sweden -- a socialist democracy in which the government dominates the economy, determines private sector priorities and offers a vastly expanded range of services to many more people at much higher taxes.

Obama will accomplish his agenda of "reform" under the rubric of "recovery." Using the electoral mandate bestowed on a Democratic Congress by restless voters and the economic power given his administration by terrified Americans, he will change our country fundamentally in the name of lifting the depression. His stimulus packages won't do much to shorten the downturn -- although they will make it less painful -- but they will do a great deal to change our nation.

In implementing his agenda, Obama will emulate the example of Franklin D. Roosevelt (not the liberal mythology of the New Deal, but the actuality of what it accomplished). When FDR took office, he was enormously successful in averting a total collapse of the banking system and the economy. But his New Deal measures only succeeded in lowering the unemployment rate from 23 percent in 1933 when he took office to 13 percent in the summer of 1937. It never went lower. And his policies of over-regulation generated such business uncertainty that they triggered a second-term recession. Unemployment rose to 17 percent in 1938 and, in 1940, on the verge of the war-driven recovery, stood at 15 percent. (These data and the real story of Hoover's and Roosevelt's missteps, uncolored by ideology, are available in "The Forgotten Man" by Amity Shlaes.)

But in the name of a largely unsuccessful effort to end the depression, Roosevelt passed crucial and permanent reforms that have dominated our lives ever since, including Social Security, the creation of the SEC, unionization under the Wagner Act, the federal minimum wage and a host of other fundamental changes.

Obama's record will be similar, although less wise and more destructive. He will begin by passing every program for which liberals have lusted for decades, from alternative energy sources to school renovations to infrastructure repairs to technology enhancements. These are all good programs, but they normally would be stretched out for years. Freed of any constraint on the deficit -- indeed empowered by a mandate to raise it as high as possible -- Obama will do them all rather quickly.

But it is not his spending that will transform our political system; it is his tax and welfare policies. In the name of short-term stimulus, he will give every American family (who makes less than $200,000) a welfare check of $1,000 euphemistically called a refundable tax credit. And he will so sharply cut taxes on the middle class and the poor that the number of Americans who pay no federal income tax will rise from the current one-third of all households to more than half. In the process, he will create a permanent electoral majority that does not pay taxes, but counts on ever expanding welfare checks from the government. The dependency on the dole, formerly limited in pre-Clinton days to 14 million women and children on AFDC, will now grow to a clear majority of the U.S. population.

Will he raise taxes? Why should he? With a congressional mandate to run the deficit up as high as need be, there is no reason to raise taxes now and risk aggravating the depression. Instead, Obama will follow the opposite of the Reagan strategy. Reagan cut taxes and increased the deficit so that liberals could not increase spending. Obama will raise spending and increase the deficit so that conservatives cannot cut taxes. And when the economy is restored, he will raise taxes with impunity since the only people who would have to pay them would be rich Republicans.

In the name of stabilizing the banking system, Obama will nationalize it. Using TARP funds to write generous checks to needy financial institutions, his administration will demand preferred stock in exchange. Preferred stock gets dividends before common stockholders do. With the massive debt these companies will owe to the government, they will only be able to afford dividends for preferred stockholders -- the government, not private investors. So who will buy common stock? And the government will demand that its bills be paid before any profits that might materialize are reinvested in the financial institution. So how will the value of the stocks ever grow? Devoid of private investors, these institutions will fall ever more under government control.

Obama will begin the process by limiting executive compensation. Then he will urge restructuring and lowering of home mortgages in danger of default (as the feds have already done with Citibank). Then will come guidance on which loans to make and government instructions on the types of enterprises to favor. God grant that some Blagojevich-type is not in charge of the program, using his power to line his pockets. The United States will find itself with an economic system comparable to Japan's, where the all-powerful bureaucracy at MITI (Ministry of International Trade and Industry) manages the economy, often making mistakes like giving mainframe computers priority over the development of laptops.

But it is the health care system that will experience the most dramatic and traumatic of changes. The current debate between a Medicare-like governmental single-payer plan and a channeling of coverage through private insurance misses the essential point. Without a lot more doctors, nurses, clinics, equipment and hospital beds, health resources will be strained to the breaking point. The people and equipment that currently serve 250 million Americans and largely neglect all but the emergency needs of the other 50 million will now have to serve everyone. And as government imposes ever more draconian price controls and income limits on doctors, the supply of practitioners and equipment will decline as the demand escalates. Price increases will be out of the question so the government will impose health care rationing, denying the older and sicker among us the care they need and even barring them from paying for it themselves. (Rationing based on income and price will be seen as immoral).

And Obama will move to change permanently the partisan balance in America. He will move quickly to legalize all those who have been in America for five years, albeit illegally, and to smooth their paths to citizenship and voting. He will weaken border controls in an attempt to hike the Latino vote as high as he can in order to make red states like Texas into blue states like California. By the time he is finished, Latinos and African-Americans will cast a combined 30 percent of the vote. If they go by top-heavy margins for the Democrats, as they did in 2008, it will assure Democratic domination -- until they move up the economic ladder and become good Republicans.

And he will enact the check-off card system for determining labor union representation, repealing the secret ballot in union elections. The result will be to raise the proportion of the labor force in unions up to the high teens from the current level of about 12 percent.

Finally, he will use the expansive powers of the Federal Communications Commission to impose "local" control and ownership of radio stations and to impose the "fairness doctrine" on talk radio. The effect will be to drive talk radio to the Internet, fundamentally change its economics and retard its growth for years hence.

But none of these changes will cure the depression. It will end when the private sector works through the high debt levels that triggered the collapse in the first place. And then, the large stimulus package deficits will likely lead to rapid inflation, probably necessitating a second recession to cure it.

So Obama's name will be mud by 2012 and probably by 2010, as well. And the Republican Party will make big gains and regain much of its lost power.

But it will be too late to reverse the socialism of much of the economy, the demographic change in the electorate, the rationing of health care by the government, the surge of unionization and the crippling of talk radio.

It was a grand experiment
I didn't think the grand experiment of our Founding Fathers would fail so soon.

But it looks like the beginning of the end.

So long, U.S.A. It was good knowing you.

Socialiam here we come
well, at least every pinko in America will be thrilled

~RIP~ to the GOP!!
The ONLY "GRAND EXPERIMENT" that has ENDED is the deregulation and tax dodge perpetrated by the GOP.
YOUR ARROGANCE and GREED, rightly so, is OVER.

Hang onto your wallet. In a few years you will not have anything to put in it. Just remember, in the first 6 years of the Bush presidency with a Republican congress the deficit increased $2.6 trillion. In the last TWO years under the democratic congress the deficit increased $2.4 trillion before the bailouts. Obama and the Democrats have proposed having a $2 trillion deficit next year. That will almost match Bush's first 6 years. Now, you will see the greed of the Democrats really bury us in debt. Obama himself promises trillion dollar deficit for many more years.

A Trillion Here or There, No Big Deal
Once the debt is re-valued in the new American dollar (redeem 1000 of your old rubles, I mean dollars, for one of the new version), the debt won't seem so big. Didn't the collapse of the Soviet Union teach you folks anything about sophisticated monetary policy?

Has Morris "EVER" been right??
According to my imprecise calculations, Mr Morris has been right exactly 0 times this election cycle. He has been wrong on every issue and with every point he has tried to make beforehand...
So, I hope to God he's wrong now !!!

But, the most Dangerous man in D.C. now is Ex senator Tom Daschle..Morris is correct in on way...if the Dem's get National Health Care...it is the end of Conservative political ambitions...they can never put that genie back in the bottle...it will be the end of Republicans as we know them...
Daschle is out for revenge...and he's not going to stop until he has it....

lone
arrogance you should look at yourself in the mirror. Tax dodge you mean like obama's treasury secretary. No wonder Ohio's economy is falling apart. They have such pathetic people like you running around.

God help us all
Too many people have been drinking the koolaid for too long.

Britain is just now waking up and they do not like what they see. It is coming out that unless the United States does something magical and quickly - Britain is bankrupt.

For the 1st time in our history, the payroll of the government exceeds that for manufacturing.

Unless spending declines and taxes are cut we are going to be in the same boat and the United States dollar will be basically worthless.

The time has come to use the same methods and tactics that the left has been suing for years. It is time to start suing and going to the courts. The federal government has way over stepped their powers and have been doing things that constitutionally they are not allowed to do and have been for most of the past 100 years.

There is no right to healthcare, education, welfare, housing or many of the other government programs. It is not in our constitution and as a matter of fact, it explicitly is against such programs.

The federal government has gone unchecked for too long and even though our politicians take an oath to uphold, protect and defend the constitution, it only lasts as long as the oath.

It is a shame that so many people want to blame the wrong people for things not having an knowledge of who in the government is responsible for what. That is exactly why we are in this mess, not because of Bush or the Republicans or even the Democrats but because of the people.

How could so many people vote for Obama and not even know who the majority party in Congress is or what the powers of government are. They read all kinds of bull in the press which is agenda driven and think that they are being told the truth.

Dick Morris has been consistently wrong every step of the election.

He wrote a whole book called "Condi vs. Hillery". Couldn't have been further off in a prediction.

Plus he's creepy.

I'm not in the GOP, but I agree that the Obama presidency will by looked at as the symbol of "the beginning of the end" of the United States of America by historians. America is about to be European-ized.

Whenever somebody spews the propagandist "deregulation" meme, they're admitting they know very little about the economy of their country. There was no deregulation, as evidenced by the net increase (not decrease) in both regulatory laws and regulatory employees in government through time (perhaps you don't understand this, but "deregulation" would mean a net decrease in these two metrics).

I urge all readers to read your blog (ready heavydoug's blog by clicking his user name).

It's a prime example of the kind of economic ignorance that is sinking this country. We've got a massive education problem here, and there isn't any sign it's improving. A poorly-educated citizenry is the only route to tyrannical power for the Obamas of the world.

This isn't a game, we're in some serious trouble here and I'm not sure the damage can be controlled.

TIffany, WRONG!
Your little mind said,
Whenever somebody spews the propagandist "deregulation" meme, they're admitting they know very little about the economy of their country.

HA! HA! HA!
YOU ARE SO WRONG!

I GUESS the previous Admin., yes BushCo, SAYING it WAS the DEREGULATION SCAM during GOP CONTROLLED YEARS that triggered this MESS is just WRONG?

"The turmoil in financial markets clearly was triggered by a dramatic weakening of underwriting standards for US. subprime mortgages, beginning in late 2004 and extending into early 2007. But the loosening of credit standards and terms in the subprime market was symptomatic of a much broader erosion of market discipline on the standards and terms of loans to households and businesses."

The WEAKENING OF STANDARDS = DEREGULATION.
2004 and extending into early 2007 = GOP.

SO I think "The President's Working Group" knows more than you about the economy .

Tiffany, BO's got about a year
before the new wears off and these libnuts lose their "teen idol" groupies to the cynicism and apathy of the American electorate. 2010 will offer the last best hope of talk radio/Fox to mobilize the middle with facts. They should have used it this year but thought Sarah and Rev Wright/Ayers would do the trick. I knew they were wrong because McCain was the wrong man for the main platform. Nailing the dims on driving up energy costs, legalizing illegals and putting more baby killing, property grabbing and terrorist sympathizing judges on the bench.

TIffany, And the Corp. TAX DODGE....
AGAIN from the previous Admin., BushCo.

In 2005, 1/4 of ALL "large" U.S.-controlled corporations and 2/3 of ALL U.S.-controlled corporations reported NO TAX LIABILITY.
NONE!
(It defined large corporations as those with assets of at least $250 million or gross receipts of at least $50 million.)

Not surprisingly, the income collected from corporations has been declining as a percentage of GDP, with the burden transferred to our income and payroll taxes. Which the GOP created, but spews about.

Blacks, Jews, Hispanics vote race
"If they go by top-heavy margins for the Democrats, as they did in 2008, it will assure Democratic domination -- until they move up the economic ladder and become good Republicans." This premise is false. The top heavy Democratic vote is not based on economics. It is race based. The antipathy is to the Protestant Ascendency and its assimilated Catholic allies.

Making money did not make Jews resent Christians any less. It will not make Blacks or the Amerindian Mexicans White. Obama is going to ignite a race war and if America is to survive as America there will have to be a growth in White Christian political identification and solidarity. Multiculturalism is inherently divisive. Whites must separate themselves from the idea of the common good and join the Blacks, Jews and Hispanics in pursuing ethnic advantage. Whites must learn to play by the rules that others play by because, as it is, the game is rigged against them.

AND TIffany, don't forget

It was BUSH who had Greenspan tell bank regulators on May 18, 2001
"Make more money easier to borrow" (paraphrased)

It was BUSH and the LOCK-STEPPED GOP who forced
the AMERICAN DREAM DOWNPAYMENT ACT on America.

When Bush spouted at signing......
"This legislation will authorize $200 million per year in down payment assistance to at least 40,000 low-income families."

"I set a goal to add 5.5 million new minority homeowners in America by the end of the decade."

================================

Can you say "MORE GOP supported DEREGULATION".
DEREGULATION that sucked America dry.

With the expansion of government...
...and federal deficits will be a reduction of the national economy. The private sector economy will stagnant because so much available capital and the national economy will be controlled by the central government and to service the deficit.

Inflation and high interest rates will follow because capital/money will be in demand. As Obama and the democrats take more governemnt interventions it will worsen the private economy. Obama and democrats will see the bad economy as a sign to introduce more government jobs programs.

Obama and democrat socialist fixes will spread the misery index. Obama has started telling us we all must share in the suffering. Obama will be Jimmy Carter's second term and Bill Clinton's third. The difference this time is that Ronald Reagan won't push Obama out of office. And, a Republican Congress won't save Obama from himself.

CHANGE AND RESPONSIBILITY?
Given that Obama has promised "CHANGE" in his campaign, it is a matter of national of necessity that he sets a new standard of "RESPONSIBILITY" for the Democrats. They must fulfill what they first began in supporting Bush regarding the confrontation with Iran and Syria, in defending Israel's right to exist, and in assuring the emergence of a democracy in Iraq.

Provided Obama leads the Democrats on this CHANGE OF RESPONSIBILITY, his domestic policies will follow and be successful. But without that CHANGE, the USA is doomed to a fragmented stature on the world stage and Obama will fail as President.

Obama as a "World" leader.
Obama will purposefully neuter the USA so that he can then merge this country with the rest of the EU mindset. In the process he becomes great in the eyes of the world. This world has both admired and abhorred the power of America and will provide a standing ovation for Obama's pruning of the power and influence of this once-great nation. His eye is upon becoming a world leader, with his term as President of the USA as a mere stepping stone. He is more than willing to sacrifice America for his popularity abroad.

This Obama fellow has a distinct advantage in negotiating with the Muslims who seek the end of Western civilization because he will be able to remind them that he was raised a Muslim and that he believes the Koran. To them, in their culture and to their way of thinking, he has "infiltrated" the Western World and will now help them achieve their goals of world domination. He will appease them for a time while they gather behind him, never forgetting their ultimate goals. They will feel that their god is using Obama to help them achieve their goal and they will be willing to play along. He can claim to the Christian world that he attended a (so called) Christian Church and with his words he will appease those who don't recognize him for what he is. He can be black to the black and white to the white. He will say what the people want to hear and will lead those who are desperate for guidance. He has no conscience as you and I know conscience. He will become a popular leader of the "world".

HA! HA! HA!
YOU ARE SO WRONG!
--
Cutting and pasting paragraphs from reports you don't understand probably isn't the best way to demonstrate that your debate opponent is wrong--especially when said material has nothing to do with your opponents claim.

My claim is that net government regulation of financial markets has *increased* in the last decade. This claim is supported by two publicly available facts: 1) the number of regulatory laws on the books written to control financial activity has *increased* every single year, with little or no repealing of previous laws and 2) the number of government employees hired to oversee financial activity has *increased* every year, with little or no elimination of previous positions.

This clearly cannot be "deregulation" if we're using the non-propagandist, proper, English language dictionary definition of the word.

I posted a simple paragraph of rational reasoning. You've countered with 3 different posts of cut and pasted material. As is typical of blind, liberal cut-and-pasters, you provide no evidence that you even understand the material. In debates, I would much prefer that you simply outline your argument in your own words and use links to support your claims. It helps to demonstrate that you understand what you're talking about.

Finally, I don't know why you believe that Bush-bashing or GOP-bashing is undermines anything I've said. I'm neither a supporter of Bush or the GOP--both have in fact increased government regulation (as you've pointed out). It's clear you're just blinding battling straw men. My point was that claiming that "deregulation" has occurred is a myth. You've provided no convincing argument that this is wrong--you're just foaming at the mouth over Bush like the stereotypical Obamamoron.

Heavydoug

I read your blog. It's a joke. As an economist you make a great ditch digger.

You just might want to learn some basic economics before you shoot off your big mouth. It'll save you the embarassment of continually making a bloody fool of yourself.

Tiffany

You can't reason with Lone. He's a Northeast liberal. Northeast liberals NEVER let facts get in the way of their aeguments.

Tiffany

I should clarify my statement.

Lone is a Northeast STYLE liberal, like Ted Kennedy, Barney Frank and Deval Patrick. You don't need to live in the Northeast to be one. You just have to be stupid.

This Article Makes Me Feel Good
This article makes me feel good.

After reading Dick Morris columns on this website over the past few years, I've learned this: If Dick Morris predicts something will happen, it won't.

Deregulation?
Regulatory spending by the U.S. government in the banking and finance industries:

1980: $725 million
2007: $2070 million

I invite Lone, Barney Frank, or any other Obamoran in this thread to make the case that government control over financial markets has decreased in recent times.

The Obams Presidency
All I see ahead are difficult times under "The One" and his minions, the Demoncrats.
I watched a documentary about FDR earlier this evening and it was frightening how similar it was to the fiscal policies espoused by the Leftists and "The One". It was also noted what a dangerous affect it had on the overall economic condition of the US as well as how it actually did more damage to recovery than help. The sad and dangerous thing is that after 10 years, recovery only really began after WWII started.
Almost all the proposed and enacted programs and solutions of FDR sounded so much like those proposed by "The One" and the Party of Evil that it was alarming and worst of all, not only did they not work, they made things worse.
Add foolish economic policies gleened from the past that failed to moral decline with social changes that further erode the already shakey moral fiber of this country and a vision of total collapse is certainly imminent.
This "messiah" is riding the horse of death and destruction and the Leftists, Socialists, Liberals are all saddling up to herd the sheeple into the corral of destruction and the death of our nation as we know it.
The prayers that are requested should be for the survival of our nation.
The '30s may be here again and very soon.

It's depressing
When Morris is right. I'm afraid, this time, he is.

Re: Heavydoug and Lone...
THE STUPID FACTORY = WHERE LIBERALS ARE MADE.

BUSH, 9/11 & THE HUDSON RIVER MIRACLE
I find it highly significant that President Bush's splendid, moving, gracious Farewell Speech summing up his eight eventful years in office, with its focus on the war against terror and national security, was delivered just hours after the miraculous crash of Flight 1549-when an heroic commercial pilot who served in the military safely landed the damaged plane in the frigid cold of the Hudson River saving himself, his crew and a 155 passengers. I find it significant and relevant to the President and his stewardship for the following reasons:

1.One of the lucky passengers John S. Howell of Charlotte, North Carolina was brother to a firefighter who died on 9/11; and 2. the plane once evacuated drifted down river from Midtown Manhattan and came to rest by the USS Intrepid before it recommenced its journey south to Battery Park where amazingly it stopped by Ground Zero as if moved to that spot by God.

Disagree with Republican gains in 2012
No, the barbarians are at the gates, and the media is cheering them on and in.

If the media is even more in the tank than it is now, and a solid 30% of the minority electorate would vote a Hugo Chavez into the White House, the Republican Party (as we know it from Reagan to Bush) will have no chance to recover; and will, in effect, be either a straw-man opposition or will split into a conservative, lean, mean opposition party (with a new name?) which will need several elections before it becomes 'felt.'

Also, 'hate-speech' laws will become so vague that to speak the truth (the downside of some homosexuals adopting young boys; the inner-city wreckage directly linked to the lure of single parent motherhood by the welfare system itself tempting young teens) will probably get you either "RE-TRAINING CLASS or jail-in-the-Gulag." Laugh now, many of the Jews laughed at Hitler's ideas too.

Obama
The people get the government they deserve. I don't think they are going to like where they get it.
Amen

FDR
You give FDR far too much credit. Those who can read or have lived through that period of time, might think otherwise. FDR still receives underserved credit from the masses of ignorant voters that fell for his great oratory. Sound familiar? Ask Eastern Europe, which he sold under the bus to Stalin about it?

This country is sucky
What a grand place to live. Home of the Brave? Come on guys, what a crock! Brave men and women do not take from their neighbors to fund their ideas of what is right and wrong. God, we are into idiot worship in this nation, whether they live in academia or in politics, or more and more, in the military. Absolutely have lost our senses. And I would not really care except for the coming generations who will never know what they missed.

Give it all up, my fellow citizens. Kick back and let the Big O give it to you hard and fast, to paraphrase Mencken. Because that is how it is going to be coming at you.

Land of the Free, Home of the Brave? What a crock! Indonesia, Hong Kong -- want to see a gutsy people? Check those countries out. They hands down kick our white, little, scared butts when it comes to self reliance and freedom.

Didn't you see it coming?
All the "little" infringements (curfews, DUI stops,...)
Best panderers winning elections.
Nepotism in politics.
Lawyers making laws for lawyers.
Medicare and Medicaid fraud.
Pell grants making tuition go up.
These and many more signs.
You should have objected even if it didn't affect you.

Experiment
It really won't matter in the grand scheme of things how the economy is handled because unless something happens really really fast, the people who were promised things during the election will become disheartened and join the whiner brigade. Remember we are a society of instant gratification and if we don't get what we want right now then we swiftly get unhappy. There is also another principle that comes into play, the easier you make it for people, the easier they want it, so after people get a little taste of the giveaways, they're going to want more and God help us if somebody gets a little more than them. All your going to see is wealth envy on a much larger scale.

Here Comes Socialis
NATURE HAS A SUBTLE WAY OF WARNING US OF IMPENDING DIASTER, EVEN SOLIALISTS DIASTERS. READ IT AT, http://stopthepresses2.blogspot.com/search/label/Socialist

Jose
You make a good point. Wealth envy has been held at bay for centuries in this country by the American dream of getting a bigger share of a bigger pie. That has slowly shifted, and now appears to have reached a level which will fundamentally change America from a dynamic world leader to stagnant irrelevancy.

The market
had its worst ever Inaugural Day performance yesterday. Welcome to the world, Obama. When you say you are going to spread the wealth, the people withthe wealth believe you. They take it and go where it is welcome. Check with Mr. Castro. The Cuban economy is now completely fair. Its the stone age for everybody. I understand the prostitutes still make a decent living off the tourists.

Is there any hope?
We now live in a country where a politician just got elected based on nothing but feelings and race. Most people could not even name one thing Obama wanted to do. They either talked of the first black president or they have been mislead by our media that labels democrats the good guys and the republicans the bad guys. Until we change the media the country will continue to spiral downward into socialism to where there may be no return unless a dynamic individual is able to rise above the frey.

Contradictions
Given how wrong you were making projections during the election, I've learned to take your scribblings with a grain of salt. We did not enter 2009 as the free enterprise nation that you claim. After all, the defict Obama inherited is projected at $1.2 trillion, and this follows on 7 years of consecutive average deficits of $500 B per year. The GOP long ago abandoned the Reagan philosophy of cut taxes in order to prevent spending, as it embraced every spending proposal it could pass from 2000 to 2006. And, as far as medical care, there's much you didn't mention. The government already, for example, spends 50% of all dollars spent on medical care - making the idea that it is a free enterprise system somewhat laughable. Further, this system costs Americans almost twice as much as other systems among the industrial nations, yet we generally don't live as long as their people do - which hardly qualifies us for the "best" health care system, whatever else it does.

And then, you believe that Obama will end up being disliked in two years. Interesting postulate - but you forget that he's a politician who surrounded himself with centrists, and they may not conform to your view of policy.

Never forget, after all, that 2/3's of American's don't like the health care system as it exists, and that Obama's stimulas package will add some $400 billion each year for two years to an existing deficit of $1.2 trillion. Assuming the public will forget the $1.2 trillion to focus on the $400 extra billion is a bit of a reach - given that the GOP's fingerprints - to include Bush and Paulson's, as well as the Senate, are all over the $1.2 trillion.

We'll see, but your article is full of contradictions. After all, if Obama secures most of the 30% minority vote - which in 25 years of so will be 50%, that hardly indicates that the GOP can stage some significant comeback quickly.

To Contradictions.
Since you seem to think that growth in government is good tell me who will finally pay the bill you seem to have forgotten that someday some time it will have to be repaid. You also assume that all minorities are as ignorant as to think that the government is the answer to that solution. The government has caused prices to escalate in all aspects of American business with adminitrative costs. The average American seems to have been educated by the same morons who populate the public teach corps and you think that growth in government will bring about prosperity and a better healthcare system you are a fool. If you want a good example of the government taking over ask someone who is under tricare which is offered to military people while on active duty who are not covered under active duty benefits for full time soldiers. A government agent has to approve your care. Do you really believe that is a good idea. We have free public education in America and the rich get a good education because the democrat party showing their loyalty to the NEA votes down vouchers. When we get free health care only the rich will get good health care.

Creeping Socialism
The grand experiment failed years ago. Attributing it all to Obama ignores all who contributed previously. We've had an 80 year cycle beginning with Hoover in which the federal government began and continued a steady expansion of its power and budgets. In that cycle, the GOP controlled the white house for 40 years, yet only one GOP president, Reagan, identified government as the problem - not the solution. The rest, to include Hoover, Eisenhower, Nixon, Ford, Bush Sr and Bush Jr believed in an activitst presidency which, by definition, included using the federal government to solve problems. And of course, these presidents were ably supported by FDR, Truman, Kennedy, Johnson, Carter and Clinton, who believed the same thing. Along the way, we ended up with the Federal Reserve board, whose money policies carry more weight and have more influcence that the actions of the government itself.

The Republican form of government took a body blow beginning with Lincoln, and was buried years ago by his successors. Obama is nothing more than a continuation of this trend. It has been a steady form of creeping socialism. We started with Medicare under Johnson, added Medicaid under Nixon, Drug Entitlements under Bush, and now another step under Obama.

Pinning it all on Obama may be useful to partisans, but solves nothing.

Same ole, same ole
The government screwed up SS, Medicare, education, our out of control tax system and hands out raises to themselves in congratulations of the great job they are doing.
It takes a real idiot to think they can improve health-care, fix the deficit, close the borders or improve our national security. All they are interested in is lining their pockets and staying in power. If they think they have to disarm the people and bring in more illegals to acomplish this they will do it.
Paraphrasing JFK, it is no longer "Ask what you can do for your country" but "Who is gonna gimme something".
I have always been proud to be an American but that does not mean I am proud of the greed and stupidity of so many Americans.

I am thankful
to have lived my life in the finest era of this great country. Born in 1940, I had the luxury of what the greatest generation bought for us by their sacrifice.
I have watched liberals chip away all that was good and decent in this country for over 50 years now in their quest for power.

They took over the schools and placed their own curricula in them, denigrating both the country and the founders.

The instituted their PC politics where fear rules the day and free speech dies.

They instituted the welfare state to pay extortion money in order to keep cities from being burned and to secure the votes of those who think we owe them something for things that happened in the past that none of us bear any responsibility for.

Now they got what they wanted all along, a president about whom we know nothing, who spent large sums to keep it that way and who will use this and any other crises to obtain even more power over us until we are no longer the greatest country ever devised, but just one more vote at the UN table.
We committed national suicide on Nov 4th.

Russell
At no point did I endorse the idea that government spending is good. Read what I wrote again. I merely pointed out that given so few members of the Democrats or GOP seem to believe that spending is bad, that Obama is a continuation - not some watershed of change. The Fed's spent $1 for each $1 spent by all state governments in 1950. Today, it spends $5 for each $1.

Further, I also pointed out that we do not have an existing free enterprise health system as some keep talking about. When government controls over 1/2 of all spending of anything, it controls all the key elments - and that system cannot, by definition, be free enterprise.

Do I want more government involvement? Not at all. I'd like less. However, that battle was lost years ago. No one, including Bush nor the GOP when it was in control of the house and senate made any meaningful attempt at all to reduce Medicare nor Medicaid. Rather, it added the Drug Entitlement program.

Is it right? No. Will my opposition change anything? No.

Why, because I'm a minority in the US, and there aren't enough people like me to influence congress anymore.

We have become a direct democracy. This country is now run by the general public - and that public years ago left the vision of the Republic that I have, and adopted their own view.

The only thing that can change this will be a general economic collapse. Forcing change.

Surely, you can see that. A majority of the public voted for Obama because they "want" more health care - not less. And so, they will get it.

Been an Ohioan all my life and have lost almost every friend I ever had - including family - trying to convince them that Dennis is a loser. See where it got me. I'm not aloud to even mention the Obamas. It's like taking the Lord's name in vain. We have lost our minds. Guess they're all so used to being out of work they'll grasp at any straw. Unless there are some very drastic changes in the GOP over the next 2 years, I think I've voted for the last time.

Seawulf
I don't believe the US committed national suicide on November 4th. I believe it has died by the death of a 1000 strokes over the last 50 years. You may rever the greatest generation, as you call them, but never forget that Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid were their doing. Further, That it was members of that generation which enacted Roe v. Wade, and that we switched from being a creditor nation, to becoming a debtor nation, in the early 1980's. The idea that Obama will integrate the US into the world ignores the fact that our banks, corporations, and financial markets have already been integrated, and that our existing debt owed to the world has given power to other nations that ensures only that any President - which was true of Bush as well, could no longer chart an independent economic policy. Further, the failure of the past three Presidents to deal with the issue of enforcing immigration laws guaranteed that we would become not a nation whose cultural mix was based on Europe, but on Asia, Africa, and Central and South America as well. This is where we have come to today. November 4 is not the day that the US committed national suicide, it is the day that we simply affirmed what we have created over the last 50 years. As such, it may be the death of the vision that many had of the US, but that vision had been deteriorating for a long time - and now we are simply confronting jit.

Yep
Morris has it about right. But in additon to going after talk radio, I think Cass Sunstein will also help Obama come up with a legal way to apply the Fairness Doctrine to the internet as well.

I repeat, who is he?

Barack Hussein Obama is President of the United States of America. Can anyone, of either political persuasion, point me to any website that verifies that Barack Hussein Obama is this person's real, current, legal name. If he was legally adopted by Lolo Soetoro, would his name not become Soetoro? Where is the record that he legally changed his name back to his natural (?) father's? I'll keep asking this until I'm satisfied. I hope this can be answered to our satisfaction. The American electorate, in its infinite wisdom, has elected as President a man whose name we don't know for sure.

Schickelgruber became Hitler. Djugashvili became Stalin. I know it's a bit late to ask this indelicate question, but shouldn't the truth out?

Do the kids want socialism
I've spent a lot of time on-line and I'd say about 75% of the under-30 crowd is pro-Obama and definitely support an expansion of govt programs. They love the idea of free (or subsidized) college, universal health care, all the great gimmee programs the Dems propose.

My only hope is that their generation will drift Right over time. Growing up, paying a mortgage, having small mouths to feed...plus of course the life experience of seeing govt fail at most everything it tries...have a way of taking the blooom off the socialist rose.

But, if they really mean it, if they really want socialism, there's poetic justice in a way. Because they'll be the generation that foots the bill. They have an entire lifetime of earning potential ahead of them, and under Obama and the radical congress, their lifetime earnings will be significantly less.

the leftists kooks

fully buy into the idea of the messiah that there is a free lunch for everyone. Despite all economic proof that deficits are damaging to the economy the dims are still planning a $2 trillion deficit this year. Sopme 5 times the size of bushes last deficit the dims cried was trouble for the country.

But let the dims explains why deficits under repubs are bad for the country but even larger deficits under dims are good for the country

We on the right have said all along that bush was a very bad steward of the treasury and he allowed repub to spend like drunken sailors. But all we now hear from the dims is that the repubs spend recklessly now it's our turn to spend recklessly.

The red nazi, pelousy says she has seen no prove that tax reductions grow the economy. And this comes from a mega millionaire who has taken advantage of tax laws that allowed her and hubby to accumulate these many millions.

But isn't that typical lib hypocrisy, I got mine the hell with you. But let the dims explain why every wealthy district in the country is represented by dims and a compliant congress that writes tax laws benefitting the wealthy.

But the dim fantasy is that only rich repubs benefit from tax laws as if there aren't any rich dims. But for those leftists who think there is untapped wealth out there to steal to reward the losers, forget it. Congress has written laws providing tax shelters that preserve the wealth of the super rich.

And even their messiah, the clueless clown from chicago has his millions tied up in these tax shelters to protect him from the coming tax increases.

Huge spending plans and huge deficits will have to paid for and it will come from the working people who aren't rich enough to hide their money

noboma
Could it possibly be true that mayby noboma is a tool being used by the muslims?

Follow the money trail, where did all the millions, perhaps billions come from for his journy to the White House?

Something to think about.

God help us all.

Didn't Bush start this?
"Using TARP funds to write generous checks to needy financial institutions, his administration will demand preferred stock in exchange. Preferred stock gets dividends before common stockholders do. With the massive debt these companies will owe to the government, they will only be able to afford dividends for preferred stockholders -- the government, not private investors."

Morris told us what Obama wants and plans to do, which is readily apparent from what the Democrats say. But history may not cooperate. We just have to wait and see.

I think the biggest threat to the GOP is the question of blame - blame for the Second Great Depression. Great Depression II is likely to intensify and bottom out sometime in Obama's first term, and could even be worse than the first one. Will histroy repeat itself? In the first Depression, the Republican Party got the full blame and the Dems ran against the "Party of Hoover" for causing the Depression for the next 40 years, and the Dems held the WH for 20 years from 1933-1953. This time the Depression will intensify and maximize during the Democrat's term, but still started during the Republican's. Obama is very skillful, and I'm afraid he will be successful in blaming us.

From 1913 til now
What many fail to realize is, in the words of Wodrow Wilson on his death bed " I have done a grave injustice to my country". It has taken almost a 100 yrs of financial manipulation of the Federal Reserve Bank, including the 1933 bankruptsy of the US at the Genevia Convention to get us where we are today. Not 8 yrs, not 30 yrs, although in that period of time we have seen the rapid decent into this financial abyss we stand on the verge of. This nation has borrowed itself into this financial mess in 1913 through the Federal Govt.; and has passed along its spending habits to its citenzery, claiming good fiscial responsibility to do so. Inflation, deflation, recession and depression are al symptomatic of the root cause, borrowing from a note situation and being hamstrung by the increasing intrest; which means the principal can never be paid back. The govt. uses its citizens as a means to come up with the money to make ever increasing payments. Each of us is responsible for a debt we did'nt incure; but one we can not afford to completely pay. Socialism is born of such and capitulates to the demands placed on it by a master who says' I dont care who runs the country, let me control the money". Then all are controlled, free money comes with a price; and we are paying it now in compound intrest!

Obama Presidency
What about appointment of judges ?

The Great Depression
IF OBAMA, THE NARSICISTIC POPINJAY, AND HIS COMRADES IN CONGRESS INSINUATE THEIR SOCIALISTIC DOGMAS ONTO THE PRIVATE SECTOR; THE ECONOMIC CHAOS OF THE 1930S WILL SEEM HALCYON BY COMPARISON.

How many kicks in the teeth does it take before conservatives realize that the Republican party is no longer the party of conservatives? By "conservatives" I'm speaking of those of us who want to conserve the Constitution (and all that that entails) and a free-market economy.

The Republican party has become little more than Democrat lite - a gutless bunch of toadies afraid to stand up for what they claim they believe in.

Morris is wrong
I tend to agree with and respect Mr. Morris' opinions. Here, however, he completely misses the point.

To preemptively blame Obama for the socialization of the US is false and disingenuous. What about the last eight, and especially last two years?

With the growth of government spending under Bush, especially Medicare part D, and the absurd bailouts, 90% of the heavy lifting of the socialization of the United States has already been done under a republican president.

Of course, Obama will continue to carry the flag of socialization, but its inevitability was assured under Bush.

weakning of standards = deregulation
I watched a C-span video of a congressional discussion of the business practices of FNMA on you-tube. The Republicans were asking for more oversight and the Democrats said leave the bank alone, it's doing fine. It was quite an eye opener. The reason the banks were in so much trouble was that the Federal Government told them they had to loan to a wider base of applicants, particularily to women and minorities. They were told to losen their standards of loan requirements, that is how much the person earned and had worked at a certain job, for example. It was government telling a private industry how to run their business and it failed miserably--that is the banks failed. This type of regulation of banks started under Carter and the finishing touches were put on by Clinton. The government has no idea how to run a business, let alone a country. If we all ran our households the way congress handles our country's business, we would ALL be losing our homes and living on the streets. And we want them to run our health care?

Here Comes the Socialists!
The “recovery plan” (aka, bailout) and the “stimulus package” (aka, mega load of garbage) is nothing less than an advanced taxing scheme without representation.

Folks, it's your children’s future which is at stake, both in the horrendous tax burden to pay off the debt and the interest on the debt but also on a behemoth and oppressive government with greatly reduced liberties. There are other options: 1) Tax holiday for 6 months combined with serious government belt-tightening starting with a 20% reduction in the politicos' salaries and perks and further future reductions for poor performance.
2) Let the private sector self-correct without bailout or stimulus. Reform the financial industry in the right way (minimum government intervention and maximum private sector accountability).
3) There are others but less do-able.

If you look at Bush's term and what McCain stands for you cannot say that they are the carriers of the conservatives' banner. They are both putrid hybrid liberals with a sprinkling of the conservative on some issues. We need new leadership with an iron will and true vision for America. The country is being flushed down the toilet of mediocrity and third world status. McCain is already positioning himself with B.O. to be his lap dog; pretty pathetic.

Morris Wishful thinking
Mr. Morris states:

"So Obama's name will be mud by 2012 and probably by 2010, as well. And the Republican Party will make big gains and regain much of its lost power."

Dream on Mr. Morris. your doomsday scenario you paint in this utterly ridiculous cannard based on Prez Obama & the dem led congress presumed failure is exactly why repubs/cons find themselves in the predicament they are now in as the minority party.

They have nothing to offer but partisan bickering, divisiveness and absolutely no ideas for solving the nations problems.

Prez Obama and the Democrats yesterday ushered in a new era of positive can-do pragmatism for getting things done and putting the country back on the right track after watching the former republican Bush-Cheney administration and former congress literally run the country into the ground the last 8 years, six of which they had complete control of the govenment.

I have absolutely no doubt Prez Obama and the Dem led congress will be successful in the governance and doing the things they were elected to do by the majority, which will lead to his re-election in 2012 and the and a continued Dem led congress throughout his terms in office.

Blame Bush?
Here we go again: Blame George Bush, Right? WRONG! Congress and Congress alone is responsible for the whole bailout mess.....Our wonderful(?) Senators and Congress people have steered us into this mess, by refusing to regulate (and even lie about) the financial industry. "Redlining" deregulation spurred on by Political Correctness, gave us the "housing Bubble" and its collapse. Fellows like Barney Frank, told us on July 6th, 2008, that "everything at Fannie Mae, while experiencing past problems, is now in 'great shape.'" Christopher Dodd, another overseer of the banking mess, took money as well, and four times obstructed Republican attempts to regulate banking. The SEC was asleep at the switch, as well. As a former participant in this conversation suggested, "follow the money trail," which Congress will never do. Were someone to expose the real culprits of our malaise, Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid would be run out of town on a rail! Jerry, Asheboro, NC

Elizabeth Alexander's newest poem
After seeing the inspiring reading Elizabeth Alexander gave of her great poem, I contacted her to see what new and beautiful prose she has written. I have in my hand her newest, and perhaps greatest, creation of poetry:

CAUTION: READING THE FOLLOWING MAY CAUSE NAUSIA, DIAHRIA, VOMITING, AND A SUDDEN URGE TO RAM RED-HOT ICE PICKS INTO YOUR EYEBALLS!

Oh freddled gruntbuggley, thy micturations are to me
As plurdled gabbleblotchits on a lurgid bee
Groop I implore thee, my foonting turlingdromes
And hooptiously drangle me with crinkly bindlewurdles, or I will rend thee in the gobberwarts with my blurglecruncheon, see if I don't!

Pinko's calling the kettle RED
You really have to love the hypocrisy, "we enter his administration as free enterprise, market-dominated, laissez-faire America." Since WHEN? LMFAO! America except for a VERY brief period, has been a mixed economy. When we WERE free, it so terrified the European bankers that they had to work to establish a central bank in this nation to LOWER the playing field. This was accomplished in 1913 with the passage of the Federal reserve Act and the unratified 16th Amendment which made field hands out of once free men. Woodrow Wilson was one of the greatest traitors in history, followed close second by FDR. "Roosevelt passed crucial and permanent reforms that have dominated our lives ever since, including Social Security, the creation of the SEC, unionization under the Wagner Act..." ALL high points of Marxism. If the Dems are socialist, the Republicans are their fellow travelers.

Ancient Thinking
Thanks for the history lesson Mr. Morrison, as I recall it you were part of the Clinton era.

Realize what a catastrophe failure the conservative/republican operation administered during the election, which is significantly responsible for the success of the now President Obama and Vice President Biden. By the way, weren't you giving all sorts of advice to the republicans throughout the McCain campaign and the election or was that just sound bit sessions on the Factor.

Inauguration Day was elegant from start to finish, a mix of tradition and modernism, the elderly, and thankfully countless young people; hooray for America! For those of us who can see the significance of the inauguration and this new political season, those who are forward thinking individuals, applaud yourselves for you actually love your country.

We need (the Right) to understand the part about putting away childish things and ancient thinking. 2012 is just around the corner; the Right needs change, modernization and to pass the torch to its young members...is there any young members?

Obombo, the ventriloquist's dummy

Saul Alinsky, the immensely influential far-left ideologue who invented the role of grass-roots ‘community organiser’ that Obama filled for so many years, laid out in his book Rules for Radicals that the revolution could only be brought about by stealth politics.

This is what he wrote: ‘This is the job for today’s radical - to fan the embers of hopelessness into a flame to fight. To say, ‘You cannot turn away - look at it - let us change it together!’ ‘Look at us. We are your children. Let us not abandon each other for then we are all lost. Together we can change it for what we want...it is a job first of bringing hope and doing what every organiser must do with all people, all classes, places and times - communicate the means or tactics whereby the people can feel that they have the power to do this and that and on

Was it "elegant" when the racist reverend who gave the inaugural convocation did his Jesse Jackson jive-talking poem about us bad whities? I am so happy you self-loathing liberal whites got yourself an "elegant" black president with no experience, no credentials, dubious alliances, hate-mongering friends and family members. Unlike his illiterate minister, he do speak pretty, tho.

Well said, Sir!

I noticed the country of my youth starting to slid downhill in the late 'Sixties. I now believe that something approaching a majority has lost their minds! "Higher Education" has replaced common sense.

1937-1938
FDR thought that the economy had recovered sufficiently that he could cut back on new deal programs. GDP had risen to the 1929 level by 1936, although unemployment remained high. He tried to balance the federal budget by cutting government spending. The economy went into a deep recession and FDR responded by increasing government spending. By 1939 the economy had recovered and GDP was greater than in 1936. Amity Shlaes was an editor for the Wall Street Journal. She's about as free of ideology as Lenin,

Obama Presidency
Republicans, anti-socialists, capitalists, freedom lovers: Don't mourn, organize. We waited to see Obama's agenda, now we see his agenda. Don't give him slack, don't believe the unity hype, organize, organize, organize.

Next American Revolution
Once the Kool aid drinkers realize they have been "had" it will be too late. A modern American Revolution will take place over the same things as the original one in 1776 - HIGH TAXES!

Frightening and Disturbing
Even if Obama is voted out of office in four years, the implementation of any of the programs outlined by Morris would be disastrous to both the stability and growth of the country. If we are to continue to be a meritocracy, a country based on capitalism and entrepreneurialism, we must do our utmost to attempt to shortstop the enactment of any or all of these programs. The refiguration of the healthcare industry would be particularly disastrous.

Leaving Amerika
I had commented on various sites on what an Obamanation would mean. He has made clear his socialistic intentions and the Social Democrats control Congress have shown their plans for completely trashing the Constitution. I have completed my plans to leave this new United Socialist States of Americka. I have found employment overseas and am taking my family with me.

Good night and good luck.

REPEATING ROMAN HISTORY
Obama is repeating the reign of the Emperor Domitan. Domitan made all address him as Lord God (the media did same for Obama the Messiah). Domitan turned Senate into a rubber stamp, played up to the mobs with big spending, expanded imperial government and diminished municiple power and resources. The economy got worse. Eventually, famers abandoned their lands because of high taxes. DOESN'T ANYONE READ HISTORY IN THE DEMOCRAT PARTY?

POSSIBILITIES THAT MORRIS OVELOOKED
Most of what Dicks Morris said could be possible because Obama and gang have already said they want to do these things. However, today's world is not a peaceful place and we still have enemies that want to kill Americans. When, not if, we have another attack against this country, all agendas of the Dems will have to change. They will have to go back to Bush's plan to remember what it took to keep Americans safe. At least, Gates wil be there.

i believe the correct term for the current situation would be crony capitalism.

Power over Power
I don't think Morris mentioned one of the worst ideas since Social Security and Medicare -- "Cap and Trade".

In the name of fighting "global warming" -- or "climate change", if you prefer -- his government is going to arrogate to itself the absolute power to control the distribution of energy. That is, the likes of Pelosi, Reid, and socialist Carol Browner are going to have total power over power.

If you need energy to produce anything, you're going to have to get it from people who have never produced anything in their lives.

Think about that. No longer will market forces allocate resources. An agency in Washington staffed with gray-faced apparatchiks will decide who gets a trickle from the grid and what the price will be.

Heaven help us when that day comes. It is surely the road to serfdom.

When are we going to stand and resist this slide into socialism?

The truth about flight 1549
Those geese came from a terrorist training camp in Canada, and Bush failed to connect the dots.Luckily the spirit of Obama swooshed down and saved the day.

Wow! Obama really is doing the impossible! What a beautiful thing and what a great country!

DICK MORRIS"S CREDENTIALS
I watched Dick Morris (fox news) and read his material through the entire campaign. I have one question. How many times can you be wrong before you're no longer considered an expert?

OLBERMANN ROCKS

Lone in OH
Dear Lone,
I am a Republican, but arrogance and greed have not driven my life of giving and working to help others find work.

No more. I will sell my inventions and entrepreneurial ideas to those who will buy them and pay me no more in the U.S.A.

You have no appreciation for those of us who can provide useful work, not make-work for money of dubious value. So, unless the arrogance of the liberals with answers to all the tough questions show them to be working, count me out.

Re: Answers???
Look, socialism is not an answer to the tough times that America has econ. IT IS FOR THE FREE ENTERPRISE SYSTEM TO BE ALLOWED TO WORK!!!! That is the answer and for liberals to offer a answer of socialism and to throw out the constitution is what is so scary about these loons-YESIREE THERE IS A CLASS WAR THAT HAS JUST BEGUN!!!

Proud to be a socialist
I am always amazed to hear someone say they are proud of being a socialist or proud they voted for Obama. Socialists devise giveaways to people who don't contribute any money to the giveaway, they only receive from it. Wage earners pay, rich people pay, businesses pay, corporations pay, oil companies pay, but the people at home watching Oprah don't pay, they collect. That is socialism. The socialists are proud that they finally have their hero in the White House, the immaculate one, who will give them more and more until there is no more and then where will the socialists be? They will be in line to collect the last pittance the government can give because there will be no more donors and the socialists will wail loudly, "Why are the rich people poor? Where am I going to get my welfare check from?"

The liberal's logical quandary
After being conditioned like Pavlov's dog to reflexively hate Bush by their political trainers, the liberals blame Bush for the current banking and consumer credit crisis. Pointing out the rising federal deficit, the liberals lay our economic problems sqaurely at Bush's feet.

On the other hand, liberals are solidly behind Obama and democrat economic solutions to the economic problems Bush leaves to Obama. Obama and democrats economic solutions to Bush's economic errors are to follow the path traveled by Bush with one exception, to spend more tax money on a grander scale that will dwarf the wrong-minded governemnt spending of Bush.

To the liberals, this logical reasoning is the natural solution for correcting the errors of the evil Bush presidency. "Bush started the nation down the socialist path. Bush wreaked the economy by spending like a drunk. Therefore, liberals have to fixed the mess Bush left by spending like two bus loads of drunks. "Socialism was bad under Bush. On the other hand, socialism is good under Obama. Spending 700 billion under Bush is wrong headed thinking. Spending another 850 billion to 1.5 trillion under Obama is right-headed thinking."

Go figure! To point out the illogic of the liberal's arguments against Bush;s economic policies and the liberals arguments in support of Obama's economic policies is an exercise in circular reasoning.

That's not all there is to Health Care
Health Care is the gold mine that Liberals stumbled upon many years ago and are so desperate for now.

And it has absolutely nothing to do with "Health Care".

The government will come-up with body weight standards. If you do not meet the standards, you will be fined. They will pass this based on the notion that obesity leads to medical problems and it is not fair for the "taxpayers" to have to pay for your neglect.

Your hobbies and activities will be regulated. It will be said that may hobbies and activities are risky and can cause physical injury. It will be said that the "taxpayers" should not have to pay for your risky activities.

Your homes will need to meet much higher safety standards. They will cite all the accidents around the home and will invoke the regulations in the name of saving the "taxpayers" money.

Businesses will have to meet the much higher standards as well.

Smoking will be banned. Obviously to save the "taxpayers" money.

Automobile manufacturers will have to meet much higher government standards. They will cite automobile injuries and the high cost to the "taxpayers".

Just about every facet of your life will have the government in it. And they will justify it by claiming they are looking out for the "taxpayers".

Not surprisingly, the income collected from corporations has been declining as a percentage of GDP, with the burden transferred to our income and payroll taxes. Which the GOP created, but spews about.

You Moron, Any tax increase on corp will just be passed onto the consumer. This raise in price will eventually drive corps out of business to affordability of products. Government then will either bail out or let the corp fail. (either way... to socialist is this is perfect). Socialize all Amerikan Business. (Dummycrates Agenda)

Are U Kidding?
Hey Dick....with Obama in office you will have to work harder than you have in the past 8 years... whining and complaining about Obama. Everybody knows it is the Republican "I got mine (handed to me by dad or granddaddy)-- now you get yours...as long as it's not more than mine" mentality that appears threatened that's giving you wedgies! Get over the loss and "re-construct" the GOP. Stop spouting evil!

Socialists need pockets to pick
and the support of complete idiots. We are running out of the former but have an abundant supply of latter. Things will be rough, but the trip into socialism cannot last long because it is unsustainable; an engine that will have no fuel in short order.

Daddy worked for his
"Everybody knows it is the Republican "I got mine (handed to me by dad or granddaddy)-- now you get yours...as long as it's not more than mine" "

Liberals long for the day they could say, "I got mine from big daddy government." When onbes father passing on a legacy to his children, to the liberal, is an example of social injustice! Only government can correct this social wrong. Take from those that have, give to those that don't until everyone is on the same level, poor, needing hand-outs from the central government.

Rich, liberal politicians controlling government run bail-out "quasi-businesses" chaired by rich, liberal politicians or their children, family members and / or special friends and political supporters. The only one allowed to be rich in soclialist governments or socialist politicians ... ask Castro.

Glad Obama was elected
But i did not vote for him...the way i see it America will wake up and realize the Democrats are no better than the Republicans which are no better than the Democrats. Two peas in a pod is what they are. And with the consensus being that the dems and reps are one in the same in 2012, The Libertarian party will grow again as it did in the 2008 election cycle.

Nixon- fail
Ford - fail
Carter- fail
Bush - fail
Clinton - fail
Bush - fail

I think Reagan did a good job very Libertarian leaning

The sky is falling
More rhetoric, Obama is a centrist, according to Rush anyone he doesn't like is a liberal or a communsit, labels everyone, such generalities are made by ingnorant people, so I am not surprised. I would be considered an intellectual elite by Rush, although I didn't go to an ivy league school, Univ of Mich, 1977. I am not happy about a few of the cabinet appointments, about keeping the Bush tax cuts that favor the rich. Which is continuing the policies of Reagan that have ruined this country, the top 1% had 8% of the income when Reagan started, they now have 21% of it. The trickle down economics of Reagan has moved more of the country's wealth upward, from 8% to 21%, that is some trickling down. But I will take Obama anyday over any Republican. Since 1980 the Republicans have had the White House except for Clinton, who was also a centrist, he also got rid of welfare with the Republican Congress, so you can't claim he was a liberal. And look where we are with all of these Republicans running the country, wall street and all the CEOs. There greedy CEOs crying about maybe having to go back to the 39% they use to pay, even as the difference between their pay and a workers pay has also increased over a ten fold since 1980. Lets not forget the hedge fund managers only paying the capital gains tax on 100 million while the middle class is paying 25%, they are paying 15%. There are so many off shore tax shelters and other loopholes that CEOs generally pay a smaller percentage than their secretarys. even Warren Buffer said that was ridiculous. But Rush wants more of this get all you can before the ship sinks, before every bank has it stock go to zero.

steve
I think the welfare program is still running

More rich democrats in a crony nation
Liberal's must stop living in the past but it is a fact that democrats raked in multi-million dollar paydays like, Jamie Gorelick, by using their clout with the DNC to help Freddie Mac and Fannie May to cook their books. By the way, Jamie Gorelick is the one who established the "wall of separation" between the CIA and the FBI making the 9/11 terrorist attacks possible.

http://inzax.us/2008/09/17/jamie-gorelick-clinton-crony/

"Gorelick also served on the board of directors of Fannie Mae, and was part of the accounting cook booking scheme which has resulted in hundreds of billions of dollars in losses and is now owned by the taxpayer...Gorelick, a democrat politician, pocketed $26 million from her Fannie Mae affiliation."

Frank Raines, another democrat, raked in $90 million in pay to cook the books for democrats and ACORN:
http://www.realclearpolitics.com/articles/2008/09/how_clos e_are_raines_and_obama.html

"He (Frank Raines) was accused of manipulating earnings statements so he could be paid bonuses to which he was not entitled. In July, Mr. Raines was interviewed by Anita Huslin, a business reporter for the Washington Post."

Leftist social justice policies like the Community Reinvestment Act (CRA) placed the banking mortgage and consumer credit industries in the peril we see today.

http://www.lewrockwell.com/dilorenzo/dilorenzo125.html

Obama's ACORN increased the pressure on bankers to continue the bad practice of approving bad loans:

http://notasheepmaybeagoat.blogspot.com/2008/10/barack-obam a-acorn-and-community.html

I bet a percentage of the trillions of dollars from all the federal government bail-out packages end up in the bank accounts of ACORN, Algore and various current and former democrat policitcal functionaries.

The past is the past. Obama and the democrats own the problem. Does it make sense for Obama to do more of what is wrong to fix what is wrong?

Well now! I believe
that this is what the "Pride of Scranton, PA" and his merry flock of "walkin' eagles" are so happy about. More like Europe?
Farewell to our Republic. It was great while it lasted.

Credibillity Gap
Hmmm. Morris is the author of "Condi vs. Hillary: The Next Great Presidential Race." So should I take anything else he writes seriously? I wonder.

Not so fast, my friend.....

"And the Republican Party will make big gains and regain much of its lost power."

GOP is fading, as it should......it will need viagra in 2010 to get back UP again......Just ask AIPAC how their donations are faring?

RINOS and compromising principles have finished the GOP....they cannot, and will not, ever retain majority power again. Look what the insiders of that party did to Sarah Palin.

First they chose her, then trashed her behind her back.....GOP can go to the ash heap of history. Good Riddance.

What an amazing day
So fantastic to see a country re-united with eyes toward the future, ready to roll up its sleeves and, finally, feeling as if it can once again hold its head high.

Fantastic. A great day for all of us!

hail to the chief
dick Morris covered some excellent points. Once health care is universal, the GOP will never be able to change or control it. this will be a disaster for our grandchildren's children. I spent thirty five years in the insurance industry, and if government is involved, disaster is imminent.

Eventually
The Democrats will over promise what this economy can provide. Then, we "free" men might engage each other in a black market arrangment, or, if contained by, well, the mark of the beast shall we say, there will be a collapse a la the USSR. May ours be as peaceful.

Republican Come Back
Isn't it amazing how Republicans had it all and lost it so quick. And to the most radical, socialist, guff balls I've ever seen. The Democrats make it up as they go along and Republicans just take it. Republican leaders need to stand up to the lies. Hold them responsible for there part of the problems.
This is Republican rock bottom. The only way is up. We need real conservatives in office. And we need them now. Real conservatism really does work.

The democrats Pyhrric victory!
A Pyhrric victory is when the cost of victory lead to the destruction of the victor. democrats have won total political control of the nation and the purse stings. Their socialist policies will lead the nation down the same path that caused the fall of the Roman empire.

So, drink liberal drink. Drink deep of the poison kool-aid!

Here's a video glimpse of the future democrat, Obamanation:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6A832RUnk6s&feature=related

Jay Z and Young Geez will open a series of government approved nursing homes named, Love, Peace, and Unity By Any Means Necessary! If you're white, we’ll help you get right, because as Jay-Z said, it's hard to yell when the barrels in your mouth!

WOW! This guy is nuts.
Morris must have lost some serious money betting that Obama would not be president to make the goofy statements in his article. If Morris' scenario becomes fact then we all need to pack up and leave. Especially Morris!

Notice that Morris says that Obama will screw everything up and that the GOP will make "big gains" but he's not quite far enough over the edge to say that Obama will lose (or that the GOP will retake the White House) in 2012. That makes Morris a phony who doesn't even believe his own blurtings.

Larry22
I'm sure that your prescience is not to be denied when you say that our nation is now destined to crumble and fall. And you indicate your obvious glee in pointing that out to the stupid Dems who elected BHO. Right?

You even chide them by saying "So, drink liberal drink. Drink deep of the poison kool-aid!"

But um...there seems to be a tiny little flaw in your thinking...because unless MI is not covered in your Apocalyptical scenario...will you not be in the same boat as all those poor deluded "kool-aid" drinking Obama supporters?

So...if you truly believe what you say...can we assume that you are now planning your exodus from this evil and dooomed land of Obama?

Because if not, you really were just kidding us...and yourself...and you know it!

How do you know it won't work?
In fact, you make conservatives sound stupid and impotent. And seeing how you put us where we are today....I understand why. You're a bunch of 'can't-do' guys.

BTW;
Since you've all claimed to be so holy? Let us see you 'holy' ones turn water into wine and a few loaves and fishes to feed our American mulitude. Remember; you have been instructed by Christ to "Feed my sheep." Hop to it!

tom, my fear is historical in nature
No one is foolish enough to explicitly want Obama to fail. But, common-sense dictates his and the democrat’s economic and social policies can't work because those policies give too much power and central control to the federal government.

Our system of government is based on these historical facts about human nature and human civil society, the individual has historically had three dangers:
1. From his government, more have been slaughtered by their government.
2. From other governments, many have been slaughtered in wars between governments.
3. From society engaging in a war of all against all. "Bellum omnium contra omnes, a Latin phrase meaning "the war of all against all" is the state of affairs in many historically controlled democrat urban areas today :

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bellum_omnium_contra_omnes.

Our US Constitution limits central government to certain functions because a central government larger enough and strong enought that can provide you with everything you want must take everything of value you have to do this.

Plus, history has taught us that central government run by fallible humans will become corrupt because too much power in the hands of a fallible human or group of fallible humans will corrupt those humans absolutely:

http://www.phrases.org.uk/meanings/288200.html

Conservatives tend to assume that humans are selfish and central government should not be trusted with too much power run by any man or men. Liberals tend to assume that man, certain liberal men, are not selfish and can be trusted will absolute power, economic and social power, over other men guiding the masses from central government.

Human history is filled with the slaughter of men by their government. Obama and democrats want to mass power to central government. What does human history suggests will most likely take place over time if we follow the democrat path?

Doom and Gloom
Obama is only having his first day in office and already there is the predictions of gloom and doom. And as to FDR a lot of Americans Like the reforms he introducted like FDIC, SEC and Yes Social Security. A lot of people feel with dodged at least one bullet in not letting Wall Street Get its hand on the Social Security Trust Fund.

Most Americans want Universal Healthcare, they want better regulation, they want and end tothe war in Iraq. So when Obama accomplishes these things he will be more popular get, relected and be the bigging of an era of Democratic Government. The far right will takes it place back in the fringes of American Political Life. Once again seen as the oddballs and radicals whose ideas were tried and they did not work.

No More Doom & Gloom Over Socialism
Right on, liberal bloggers. Conservatives must stop pointing out differences in our concerns.
Conservatives must get in step to the beat of the drum of socialism. We mustn't oppose Obama's agendas or we'll probably be called "racists." 1. American taxpayers could find themselves paying for world wide abortions, diseases, and poverty which is a requirement stated in a Bill introduced and sponsored by President Obama.
2. U.S. Taxpayers will pay millions of dollars to Planned Parenthood per year while they makes millions in profits for killing babies aks abortions. Obama doesn't want terrorists tortured, but it's okay to rip the limbs off of babies and suck their brains out and crush their heads in America?
3. Taxpayers will probably end up paying for nationalized healthcare similar to HMO's, more corporate giants monopolizing healthcare for greed. If you like standing in long lines and waiting one year for surgery then you'll be fine with this plan, as well.
3. Taxpayers will pay for the militant gays to discriminate against Christians, Mormons, Jews, and anyone who says anything that they believe is "offensive." This law doesn't address thousands of young men and babies who die of AIDS each year.
4. Close GITMO. He'll let the terrorists out so they can re-connect with their terrorists cells or give them U.S. judicial rights even though Americans were tortured and their heads chopped off on video and more than 3,0000 died on 911.
6. Forget about Article II of the U.S. Constitution, apparently, it's unimportant.

SOCIALISM
SOME OF YOU FRUITCAKES HAVE NO CLUE WHAT MORRIS WAS TALKING ABOUT!ALL YOU ARE WORRIED ABOUT IS GETTING YOUR WELFARE CHECK AND FOOD STAMPS SO YOU CAN KICK BACK AND WATCH JERRY SPRINGER.
CHECK OUT THE MILLIONS THAT DIED UNDER STALIN'S RULE OR MAO OF CHINA OR ANY RULER THAT HAD SOCIALISTIC RULE;THATS IF YOU CAN GET UP ENOUGH GUMPTION TO GET UP BEFORE ELEVEN!

Today, I Sang the National Anthem
but I no longer had any pride in my country or its government or its People to finish the song. The words rang hollow and sarcastic in my mind. The America in that song is an America lost in time - that no longer exists. It was an America from the War of 1812 defending freedom and our fledgling government once again from British tyranny. The America they were willing to die for is now an America I could care less for. I used to love singing that song, and it would always give me chill bumps and even make me cry for all of the brave men and women who have defender her freedom over the many years of her existence; now, it just gives me the creeps! My thoughts are now about emigration just as they were for my European ancestors who came here years ago in search of freedom - a freedom that no longer makes any sense when we sing " the land of the free..."

Let's go German.
I wouldn't mind becoming more like the Germans: beautiful country, great hotels, big homes, no speed limit on the highway, 7 or 8 weeks paid vacation, and a life expectancy that may exceed that of Americans. After two world wars they seem to be doing something right.

Maybe, It's Time To Change My Moniker
Perhaps, I should change my moniker from "Take Back the Government" to "Get Out While You Can!"
I have lost faith in America, the political process, the government, and the American People. She is a doomed nation under God's Judgment for dividing the land of Israel, and she doesn't even know it. My thoughts are now of emigration to another country. The politicians no longer serve any fiduciary purpose for their constituencies; there is no representative government in DC unless you are talking about Corporate Representatives or Self Representatives. We The People are now We The Oh So Screwed. The politicians have given us the equivalent of the finger time and time again.

...Cont'd: America's Judgment
I would say all we have now is God, but I know America is under Judgment, so I can't even say that anymore. We haven't even a prayer because God cannot go back on His Word about Israel in Ezekiel: "I will seek to destroy any nation that seeks to divide the land of Israel. Ever since October 30th, 1991, the same day as the Perfect Storm which wiped out George H.W. Bush's house in Kennebunkport, Maine, and the Madrid Peace Accord, on October 30th, 1991, where George H.W. Bush announced a new Middle East policy of dividing Israel, America and her ignorant Liberal, godless politicians and bureaucrats in the State Department and the Presidency have continued thumbing their nose, mocking God by seeking to divide Israel. This has brought on Hugo, Katrina, Andrew, Midwest floods and massive tornadoes of heretofore unseen biblical proportions, the Northridge earthquake in California, the numerous fires in California, and of course 911, the destruction of the economy, the eventual destruction of our currency, and the election of an anti-American, racist, socialist question mark. More Judgment is coming, and it will only get worse and worse. The terrorists' suitcase nukes are next. If you live in NYC, GET OUT NOW! Move at least 100 miles away from the city; it will be the epicenter of an underground nuclear blast in the massive underground gaslines beneath the city. Millions will die tragically because our leaders in churches and our government pay no heed to the Scriptures.

The Stimulus Package
Should be renamed "The Obama Re-election pork bill".

800 billion of borrowed money for Obama to pass out. The congressional budget office says most of it wont be spent until long after the recession is over and some of it not until the next election.

Get it? Obama will sit up there in Washington over the years passing out money. The entire nation will come to him on bended knee. The press will spend four years telling us all the wonderful things Pork King Obama is doing with this massive deficit pile of cash which congress is going to give him to "save the economy". And with it, Obama and his people will create the political propaganda and good will that will propel them into the office on 2012.

This always has been about his re-election. After all, he came from no where, did nothing, and became president. Obama knows politics. He's going to use this crises to get congress to hand him a huge pile of money with which he will buy the next election. He's that good!

Have we forgotten?
As I read all these posts and remember documentaries I've seen over the years concerning our history, to include the forming of this country, WWII & FDR... to mention only a few, I think of a few things. The HBO series, John Adams reminds me of what the "founding fathers" went through, knowing that it would mean death, at the end of a rope if they didn't succeed. We have lost that kind of commitment as we have allowed "our" government to have way too much control. For some unknown reason, conservatives don't band together to overcome. I truly believe that we are greater in numbers but so many sit quiet, watch and complain among themselves, in fear of being put down for not being PC and God forbid, having to apologize for speaking the truth.

For those of you who have not read an article in the Aspen Times, here is some reading that needs to be read over and over again. Maybe it will finally get through. Maybe it will fire up those who sit quiet.

Get Ready For The Messiah ?
The Messiah is here to make all our problems go away with a stroke of a pen.

He brings sunshine and hope to all people and if you don't like it, he is poised to send his "Youth, Media & Celebrity Army" to shut you up.

Obama will make sure that all speech is aimed at pleasing him, his political party and his chosen diciples.

There is no need to find work , the Messiah is here to take care of you by creating jobs for his chosen people at the expense of all those who have made their way without him.

Dick & Eileen,
I'm sorry for pointing this out, but your track record for predictions is not good. You, after all, are the ones who wrote, "Hillary vs. Condi" predicting that this last presidential race would be between Hillary Clinton and Condoleezza Rice.

It's true that Obama has a Democrat Congress, but they're not going to rubber stamp Obama's every desire. There are some pretty huge egos up there that will need to be acknowledged and assuaged. Besides, this is still a center-right country and there is no Ministry of Propaganda that could destroy the internet and talk radio. There's enough people that like Rush Limbaugh and others that would raise a stink if they tried that.

The people are watching Obama & Co. and will react. Letters and phone calls to Congress ARE effective. We, the loyal opposition, are watching.

my 2 cents
bo will TRY the above, but we have things in this country known as voters. We have elections, and God willing enough people will FINALLY become aware of what is going on and will stand up and let their voices be heard and then when mid-terms come around there will be some serious changes made.

(I hope and pray that) people are waking up.

A friend of mine who ran for congress and was defeated said to the newspaper in reference to voters "One day they'll make the connection between the government they despise and the congress they keep re-electing"

That dy is right around the corner.

Morris and McGann
News Flash: Socialism is already here. Thank you Republicans.

You wrote: "We will shortly become like Germany, France, the United Kingdom or Sweden -- a socialist democracy in which the government dominates the economy, determines private sector priorities and offers a vastly expanded range of services to many more people at much higher taxes. "

I just did a quick look at some of the figures
and while the USA has a GDP by far the largest
in the world (and also nearly the largest
country in the world), Germany comes in third
and France comes in 5th and neither are anywhere in that standing in population.
Secondly, (I am taking this from memory and it
was 2 years ago) Germany has a disposable
income for each citizen that is higher than
in the USA as does two of the Scandanavian
countries.

If you add the Euro Union as an entity,
everyone including the US moves one notch
down the ladder with GDP (I think we call it
GNP here).

I will also add one last thing. Except perhaps for some of the Scandinavian countries, you overstate that they are so
dominated by government ownership. It siimply
isn't true.

Morris and McGann
I forgot to mention one point during my last
post. None of the woebegotten countries
you mentioned - France, Germany, UK, etc.
have anything approximating the wide and
disgusting disparity between rich and poor,
that we have here.

Perhaps you've never seen Winston Churchill's perceptive comment:

"The inherent vice of capitalism is the unequal sharing of blessings; the inherent virtue of socialism is the equal sharing of miseries."

Envy is a pathetic basis for political arrangements.

wealth re-distribution
Originally our Founders, inspired by God’s Word in the Bible and common sense, wisely gave us a limited Government called a "Constitutional Republic." Originally, our taxes were used only to support national defense (Executive) and regulation of society (Legislative and Judicial). Later on taxes supported some land grants that assisted our settlers in establishing homes and private property where they could begin a new life and work for their subsistence.

Furthermore, it wasn't socialists and communists, nor lazy and irresponsible, nor homosexuals and lesbians, nor atheists and pagans that made America the greatest nation on earth; but responsible, moral and ambitions people.

I believe the best and most honest form of “wealth re-distribution” is capitalism and free enterprise, within the framework of our Constitutional Republic, with free, responsible people working and earning wages making and selling products and services, and then spending their wages for other products and services, to pay the wages of other citizens’ careers. This is how our wealth should continue to be re-distributed - from person to person - without Government interference.

In America we don’t need dishonest “wealth re-distribution” by government interference, or by a socialistic form of government, using taxes (without representation) for support of selfish, dishonest, lazy people.

Only honest and unselfish people can be effectively governed by our unique American “limited government.”

CAMEL LOT!modern day jimmy carter!

WOW!!
How can anyone make it more clear?

Not given a chance by her own party.
My niece was furious when the Democrats nominated a black man, kind of the way all who participate in these blogs feel. She a conservative young 24-year-old woman decided to become active in local Republican politics and in helping the party to elect McCain. She was very active in her college Conservative party chapter, a 4.0 student and one of the top of her class.

Well they had no interest in her or any need for a volunteer of her caliber. This is symptomatic of the problems and ills of the Republican Party/Conservative Party, the arrogance, and ignorance of how to achieve and sustain success and growth.

Apparently there are not many of the bloggers from Townhall.com who have anything interesting or forwarding thinking to contribute that may help the Party to a genuine functioning state again, by the way are there any of you who are working and volunteering for the furtherance of the Party, how about sharing a story or two about your experience.

Fear mongering and insults are old school tactics. Of course, our beloved National Review has booted some of these ignorant dopes from their realm. You know the writers many of the Townhall bloggers idolize. It is time we all do the same and clean the party house.

This is funny...
The "bio" above says, "(Morris)is the author of Condi vs. Hillary: The Next Great Presidential Race"!!! Although I agree much w/ of what the toe sucker here says, ya have to admit that that is funny. I mean, seeing as how the guy has written like 10 books since pulling that boner, you have to wonder if Townhall secretly hates him or something. Could it be...

I cannot think of any Republican...
...who is even mildly furious that the democrats nominated a black man!?!? They are free to nominate anyone they wish. That kind of thinking suggests something behind the motives of someone who would take the time to post such a comment.

+++++++++++++++
A portion of the comment was: "My niece was furious when the Democrats nominated a black man, kind of the way all who participate in these blogs feel. She (is) a conservative young 24-year-old woman decided to become active in local Republican politics..."
++++++++++++++++

The Republican party doesn't need anyone who thinks or feels like that. In other words, if the Republican party nominated for president Michael S. Steele, that would give someone a reason to be mad because my next door neightbor's daughter, who is smart, wanted to join the college radical socialist but was rejected. Therefore, no one can voice their political opinion unless they work to change the democrat party because the Republicans nominated Michael Steele. This sounds like a "straight up" racist, stereotypical democrat party, twisted logic "talking point."

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michael_S._Steele

I cannot think of a Rebublican...
This is what a good friend sent me.
So very true!

Conservatives don't band together more because we want to work hard and have a nice life for our families. We are not into standing on street corners shouting out. We don't need attention like the liberals do. We have faith in God and want to be left alone. We will rise up when we have a strong leader come onto the scene...Ronald Reagan. That's what we really need if we are going to survive. People all around me say we should do something...but nobody knows what to do. Because we are people of faith, we are not good at lying and shouting down liberal opponents. I could go on.

Click my name

I am giving conservatives a real lesson on socialism.

It's called "Socialsim is as American as Apple Pie".

Not a one of you can disprove my point!

This is a challenge!

Read the other weaklings first before you step up. Only applicants with brainpower please.

The Funny Part
Is that most people really don't have a clue what they really voted for. As usual, Morris lays it out quite clearly and thoughtfully.

Obama "fans" got swept in the euphoria of "change" by a rock star messenger from on high (who simply wasn't the hated Bush, and was carried to the finish line by his sychophantic handmaidens in the media) without expending a heck of a lot of time or brain cells to think about what this man was saying.

Be careful what you ask for.

On another point: ever notice how frquently President Obama is referred to as "Barack?" Like Madonna, Jewell, or Bono..and other celebrity rock stars. A sutle point to be sure but also an insight into how Obama is perceived by his legions of "fans." We live in a country where star-studded celebrity and style will trump substance, leadership, experience, wisdom, and vision any day of the week and twice on Sundays.

Mobilize!
I have been posting at a liberal website, I campaigned for McCain even though I didn’t like him, and in February I am attending CPAC 2009 in Washington DC. I love my pundits and my columnists and my radio guys, but we will lose if we do not mobilize! In Dicks article I see an opportunity and I want to know what you think. I am eligible for the check euphemistically called “refundable tax credit” and when I get it I am sending it right back with a note for President Obama about my ability to take care of myself. Do you think that if we became a group of thousands, maybe millions, who do the same, it would get some play? I have some ideas about making this a movement. Would you be willing to make the commitment to send back to Obama this dirty money? I am asking for your comments. Trying to get a feel for what might be the popularity of a movement like this.

Rudolf
Rudolf, Go your democ-rat logo to Germany! And take tom with you!

The Red Scare of 2009
In opposing government intervention in times of economic crisis, Republicans are ignoring the traditional role of the Federal government in fostering economic development that goes back in an unbroken line to the early nineteenth century. Republicans continue to tout the virtues of unregulated free market economics at a time of grave danger regardless of the historical fact that the Great Depression has proved otherwise. I would say that it is highly significant that at the 2009 annual meeting of the American Economic Association there has been a wholesale rejection of Reagan era economic principles with virtually all of those present endorsing greater government involvement in the economy via the levers of public spending and, that spending should play a greater role than tax cuts in the upcoming stimulus package.

Many conservatives that I know are hoping that Barack Obama will be a one term President and that as if by magic, the Republican Party will find electoral salvation in: “a return to the principles of Ronald Reagan.” It goes without saying that a channeling of the memories of Reagan into the present political environment would be about as effective as Sarah Palin’s constant rant about Obama being a “socialist” in upending the Democrats. The double whammy of the Wall Street meltdown and the multibillion-dollar misadventure in Iraq will be to the Republicans of this century what the inability to foresee and respond to the Great Depression was to the GOP in the last. While the Republicans can certainly win elections in environments where voters seek to punish the Democrats as opposed to embracing Republican ideas, the GOP could very well find itself relegated to running on the platform that it can better manage government than in winning elections by offering positions that represent an ideological change of course.
