Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

President-elect Barack Obama's appointments to Homeland Security, the Justice Department and now the CIA indicate a virtual abandonment of the War on Terror.

As Homeland Security chief, he's named a governor whose only experience has been with the US-Mexican border. His attorney general pick, meanwhile, took the lead in pardoning FALN terrorists. Now he has rounded out his national-security and Justice Department teams by naming ultraliberals.

Leon Panetta, his choice for CIA chief, is as liberal as they come. Though originally a pro-Nixon congressman, he long ago embraced the left with the fervor of a convert and brings these values to the CIA.

As President Bill Clinton's chief of staff (a tenure that coincided with my own work with Clinton), he was a dedicated liberal, opposing accommodation with the Republicans who ran Congress and battling hard against a balanced-budget deal. After winning re-election, Clinton jettisoned Panetta for the more moderate Erskine Bowles in order to reach a deal with the GOP.

Plus, Panetta was a prime mover in the 1995 appointment of John Deutch to head CIA, replacing hardliner Jim Woolsey. Deutch eventually needed a presidential pardon after being caught committing a massive security breach by taking home his laptop, laden with secret files.

Choosing Panetta to head the CIA culminates liberals' 35-year crusade to take over the agency, humble its operatives and rein in its operations. In 1977, President Jimmy Carter named liberal JFK adviser Ted Sorenson to head CIA, only to have the nomination killed. In 1997, Clinton tried to name his ultraleftist National Security Adviser Tony Lake (who had quit Secretary of State Henry Kissinger's staff over Vietnam), only to have that nomination rejected as well.

Each time, the intelligence community acted to protect its own and curbed the liberal president's inclinations. But now, under Obama, the Democrats will finally have their way and appoint a liberal zealot to head the agency.

Panetta will, presumably, curb such practices as waterboarding, rendition and warrantless wiretapping. So we won't gather much intelligence - but our spies will dot all the i's and cross all the t's.

Over at Justice, Obama is naming four liberals to staff the agency, each determined to rein in effective intelligence-gathering.

Professor Dawn Johnsen of Indiana University Law School is to head the Office of Legal Counsel. She distinguished herself by writing a law-review article taking issue with President Bush's efforts to keep us safe. It was titled, "What's a President To Do: Interpreting the Constitution in the Wake of the Bush Administration Abuses." Presumably, she'll bring back the days of the wall between criminal and intelligence investigations, which led to our failure to examine the computer of "20th hijacker" Zacharias Moussaoui, which contained wire-fund-transfer information on the other hijackers.

No less an authority than Harvard Law professor Laurence Tribe, who taught Elena Kagan, the new solicitor general, predicted that she and Johnsen would "freshly re-examine some of the positions the previous administration has taken."

Obama's other Justice appointments, David Ogden as deputy attorney general and Thomas Perrelli as associate AG, bring back Clinton/Reno Justice Department retreads. Both participated eagerly in the constraints on intelligence-gathering that left us so vulnerable on 9/11.

Bush's legacy shows one clear achievement: He kept us safe after 9/11. Now his successor's policies are about to eradicate that singular achievement. The liberals will, of course, all cheer these appointments and the policies they'll pursue once in office, but these appointments make it frighteningly more likely that we will, indeed, be hit again.

I would be inclined to agree with you only if I were a terrorist. The Clinton adminstrations officials at Justice chose to ignore the warnings of impending attacks and leave the incoming president to clean up the mess. I fear that if these nominations are approved, we will soon be heading down the same road...the only question is will they come soon enough for Obama to blame his predecessor.

LET ME GET THIS STRAIGHT
LET'S JUST PRAY THAT OBAMA IS NOT THE VICTIM OF HIS RIDICULOUS LACK OF SERIOUSNESS ABOUT TERROR.

GOD FORBID WE LOSE ANOTHER CITIZEN TO THOSE MURDERERS.

PEOPLE WAKE UP!

ROWDY BOOTS

Wobbie Wanger,
I see Wobbie is still in lalaland. These picks just about guarantee another terrorist attack,I really don't understand the lack of a sense of reality from the left. God help us all while they sell us down the river!

Rememember the Carter years!
We will be lucky if the Obama national security team doesn't achieve the same results as the Carter years, namely the expansion of powers hostile to the U.S. and the free world overall. I am not hopeful that we will enjoy more years without experiencing another major attack. But that's just considering what the obvert enemies, the radical Islamicists are likely to do.
Depressingly, even if McCain had campaigned more effectively and had won, we would still likely remain unprepared to counter the ruling regime in China in its stealth program to create "science fiction" classes of weapondry (such as nanotech methods of mass detruction.)

A Sad Affair
It is sad to see this un-American cabal dismantling everything that has kept the terrorists at bay for eight years.

B.Hussein is preparing to have his talks with Hamas. Hamas only knows strength. They will discover soon we have no strength with this administration and we may all suffer.

"the only thing we have to fear..."
is cowardice!

"Those who would give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety”-Ben Franklin or by a book’s author, which Franklin published.

What part of that is so difficult to understand?

And just what are you so freakin' afraid of?

9-11? Equivalent to a slow weekend of drunk driving deaths in Texas.

Conservatives talk tough, but I've never met a more insecure, frightened bunch of cowards.

Stop thinking of ways to get around the Bill of Rights and grow a pair.

I've lived my entire adult life in the downtown neighborhoods of our largest cities. I've never felt any need to own a handgun, nor have I felt threatened at any time of day or night. After 49 years on this earth, I believe that conservatives fear the unknown more than any tangible danger.

If you are really that fearful of 'terror', exchange your collection of American flag lapel pins for a single pin of the flag of Sweden. No more fear of anti-American violence.

Steve in CA
What if that slow weekend of deaths happened to you or your family? would you still spout the same liberal BS?

because the world did not change
I grew up five miles from Manhattan, and my family still lives in a and around the city. Several of my relatives lost coworkers or neighbors. They have also lost friends and acquaintances to traffic accidents but they are not advocating spy-cams in every car. They have lost loved ones to fires, but they do not advocate warrant-less searches of smoker's homes.

Why is this one situation the only one in our lifetime to warrant government spying on her own citizens, and law enforcement no longer having to obey the law?

Another
right-wing column by two losers who Clinton had the good sense to get rid of. Time for new hires..

Barry's picks?
It seems to me that the Clintons after losing an election are setting up Barry for a fall. Will "The One" take the bait wel he sure is nippin lets just wait and see what happens after it potentially nips him.

Trust Me ... Just Words
It's difficult to read the liberal comments here without hand to mouth. No facts, just trust them that they've finally gotten "it" right.

That said, the prize goes to "Wobby." Morris is out of line? Critiquing liberal picks by a Socialist wannabe cannot be discussed? Puleez.

They have a saying in Texas, Wobby -- Big Hat, No Cattle.

Even worse
Republicans to include normally hawkish Republican Congressman Pete Hoekstra, seem to be embracing Obama's pick of Panetta for CIA. What is says is that everyone in Washington are politicians first and representatives of the nation last.

If "we the people" don't get off our duff and start jerking the chains of these career self-interest sponges, we deserve our fate. Time to kick some congressional booty people and kick hard.

Rowly
You said, "we may all suffer" from Obama's picks and actions regarding national security.

If his administration creates an open door for one - or several - Islamist mass-casualty attack on American soil, I think it's safe to say that the vast majority of the "we's" who will suffer the most - with the loss of their very lives - will be those who voted for Obama, since I don't figure the redoubts of the VRWC, places like Salt Lake City or Tulsa or Sioux Falls or Jackson, MS, are likely to be higher on terrorist hit lists than big liberal-dominated cities like NYC or DC or Chicago or Boston or L.A. or San Fran.

Rowdy in PA said he hoped Obama is not himself the victim of his lack of seriousness about national security. I think in fact Obama stands a fairly decent chance of being just such a victim. If his policies open the door for the Islamists to perpetrate another 9/11 or worse on our soil, somehow I doubt they'll show their gratitude to the Obama Administration by deciding that Washington DC should be considered sacrosanct. Who know, such an attack might happen on a day in the near future when Congress is in session and Obama has no reason to be out of town, meaning that Biden is in town presiding over the Senate, and Pelosi and the Senate pro tempore are also present, while Hillary is off to some distant country as SoS, when WHAMMO! - and guess who now becomes the 45th president of the United States. And all of us who thought she was crazy to take the job are going to realize, yeah, she was crazy, all right - CRAZY LIKE A FOX!

Wobbie
You are right, my response was a bit lame, you should know because yours are always lame and without any basis in reality or facts. You can have your own opinions, but not your own facts!

dont worry
we will be able to correct all the aforementioned foolishness after the second nuclear attack. the first one will be followed by hand wringing, blaming the us, blaming the republicans, blaming bush, and lots of palaver about not unfairly blaming innocent peaceful muslims. it is the second nuclear attack that will restore national sanity.

I did read today that some security people were concerned about the inauguration with so many people being there.

I am concerned every time there's a huge gathering like New Years Night or the Superbowl game.I think we will be hit again and am just thankful it has not happened again before now.

I suppose we will never feel safe again. Like the Israelis, always having to watch our backs. The enemy is moving to the states and I will always wonder whose side Obama will be on if push comes to shove.

I know you are a baseball fan, though not a Braves fan. Our John Smoltz has been signed by Boston. He is one of my favorite players and has never pitched for anyone else. Twenty three years. It is a sad day....Take care.

Not Surprising
It should surprise no one that Ovomit is choosing losers and those who are inadequately prepared for these key positions. After all, he is an inadequately prepared loser himself. Besides, neither Ovomit nor his liberal minions give a rat's a** about the United States, so they do not care if the Muslims attack again. The American people deserve terrorist attacks like 9/11 because Jeremiah Wright said so.

Ranger29
It appears you have all your lines memorized . . . you keep repeating yourself throughout this entire blog post.

May I make a suggestion, why don't you start reading books that actually teach you something. For instance: The Looming Tower (Lawrence Wright) . . . not a Republican.

DanNV
I wholeheartedly agree!

Ranger29
I have read everything you have said, and one thing comes to mind.

YOU REALLY DO NOT KNOW WHAT YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT.

I DO!

ENOUGH SAID.

In case there was ANY doubt
That Wobbie/Wanger29 is not only NOT a military person, but also IS TOTALLY INSANE, the posts he made in this thread up to this point should remove ANY doubt.

It's just too bad that in a matter of hours they'll be gone, and the people who come in here after that won't be able to see someone who has repeatedly claimed to be a Captain in the U.S. Navy defending Obama's picks of Anti-Intelligence community people for top national security and intelligence positions in the new administration.

As if that wasn't bad enough for someone who not only claims to be a Naval Officer, but also claims to be currently in the Middle East, in the middle of the war zone, Wobbie/Wanger29 also continually downplays the threat that the
Islamist Extremist pose not only to this country, but to the world as a whole.

If this flaming retard was truly an officer in the United States Aremed Forces and his superior officers didn't IMMEDIATELY relieve him of his command and arrest and put him on trial for Sedition and/or TREASON, THEY should themselves be subject to charges of the same.

BTW, for anyone who wants to know the insane things he's said after the mods remove his posts, I have archived them for future reference, and possible use against him in a Courts Martial and/or Criminal/Civil Trial for TREASON.

Don't forget his AG pick..ERIC HOLDER
My word he's even more scary...

A perfect storm is developing for Second Amendment opponents that could allow President-elect Barack Obama's choice for attorney general – Eric Holder – to "ban guns at will" despite the 2008 affirmation from the U.S. Supreme Court that U.S. citizens have a right to bear arms.

The situation was described with alarm by Alan Korwin, author of Gun Laws of America, in a recent commentary.

He cited Holder's known support for gun bans – the former Clinton administration official endorsed the District of Columbia's complete ban on functional guns in residents' homes before it was overturned by the Supreme Court.

And Korwin pointed to overwhelming Democratic majorities in Congress as well as Obama's known support for gun restrictions and his presence in the Oval Office.

But that could change in the 111th Congress, sworn in today. And Korwin said the plan would allow the U.S. Attorney General – possibly Holder – to add to the list of guns banned to the public any "semiautomatic rifle or shotgun originally designed for military or law enforcement use, or a firearm based on the design of such a firearm, that is not particularly suitable for sporting purposes, as determined by the Attorney General."

"Note that … Holder … wrote a brief in the (District of Columbia) Heller case supporting the position that you have no right to have a working firearm in your own home," Korwin said.

The People of New York & California

Elected this crew. Hopefully, they will be the ones who get to pay the bill.

#24 DUMB COMMENT
I did not vote for Obama. I held my nose and voted for McLame.

Also, I grew up in New York State and never once voted for a liberal.

So don't make dumb comments like the people of New York and California should pay the bill.

We're all Americans with, unfortunately, an ignorant electorate. Let's try to change that rather than throw out dumb comments.

I am alarmed
about the security of this country. Liberals can now feel really good about themselves for being so compassionate toward terrorists and for being "better" then those who chop off heads and kill the innocents who get in their way. If our country is attacked again, will it hurt us less knowing we are "better" people then those who did it to us?

For a Thinker
It is always sad when a Californino or NY resident becomes incensed at the disgust the rest of America levels at the socialist workers paradises they reside in. Having worked in both "The City" and LA LA Land I can say I rarely encountered a "Republican" who felt quotas were wrong (hey there was slavery), the Second Amendment was relevant (who needs more than a muzzle loader), or the sanctity of state and local government ( look at those stupid rednecks in flyover country). If anyone is dumb it is someone who will cheerfully contribute 50% or more of their annual income to facilitate their oppression by the socialist thugs that administer their benighted environs. However, in the interest of party comity lets agree that I continue to reside with Americans that have the integrity to believe in the Constitution and the common sense to believe in self preservation, while you continue to reside with gutless lemmings who believe the world is a Disney fantasy.

QParker and Just A Thinker
I TOO held my nose and voted for McCain - and I am also a former Los Angeles County resident (for 15 years).

But there is a harsh reality that won't go away: as I noted in my earlier post to this thread, if America gets hit again by a mass-casualty Islamic terrorist attack on our soil, it's the liberal meccas like New York or L.A. or Washington DC that figure to be at the top of terrorist hit lists as opposed to the redoubts of the VRWC like those I named before. So like it or not, if such an attack happens, or several, the people who gave Obama his greatest support live in places where they're the likeliest to "pay the bill" in such circumstances.

Yes, regrettably, a few of the relatively few conservatives who live in these liberal meccas also figure to "pay the bill" with their lives. But Obama's voter base figures to do the vast majority of the paying.

Don't get me wrong, no way do I WISH for such an attack - and I'd take that attitude even if I was totally convinced that an Islamist WMD attack, or several, on our soil that eviscerated one or more major liberal meccas (even San Francisco) and killed almost exclusively liberals would ensure 50 years of conservative rule in Washington DC in the aftermath. But if the lack of seriousness on fighting terrorism that is indicated by Obama's choices for Attorney General, CIA head, and Homeland Security head result in just such a conflagration: well, again, the brunt of the dying will be borne by Obama's most ardent believers. Let's see after that how good Obama STILL looks to their survivors. Although clueless as they are, they'll probably reflexively still blame George Bush.

The Liberal Mentality
I believe there are two types of liberals, more,of course, but I am referring to two types.

There are those who believe that the world owes them a living. That the wealthy do not pay enough ,simply because they earm more.

This type feel no guilt if they stay in bed every morning rather than get up and go to work as the ones who pay taxes that allows them to loaf around do.

Then there are the guilt-ridden people with cushy jobs who live the good life without really having to work real hard to earn their pay. They live in the best homes, wear the best clothes and drive the best cars.Best of everything.

They know they don't deserve the exorbitant salaries and perks they get,so they want to share with the 'little man'. It makes them feel superior. They don't want to live or associate with them, but will pay them if they just stay in their places.

These are Obama voters.

When the cash cow goes dry and it WILL go dry soon, these two groups may be forced to get real jobs if there are any, work hard every day and pray that times will get better. That is when they will become conservatives.

Not "if" but "when"
"The liberals will, of course, all cheer these appointments and the policies they'll pursue once in office" . . . UNTIL WE GET HIT AGAIN. AT WHICH POINT, THEY WILL BE SILENT AND "UNAVAILABLE FOR COMMENT" AND NEITHER THEY NOR THE PRIMARY ENABLER, BARAK OBAMA, WILL BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR THE LIVES THAT WILL (NOT MIGHT) BE LOST WHEN (NOT "IF) WE ARE HIT AGAIN.

Rowly
I'm sure there are probably some latter-day James Earl Rays out there who would love to put a bullet or three in Obama before he gets the chance to actually sit in the Oval Office - and I'm sure the Secret Service will be on guard against that at the inauguration.

But if I were Islamic terrorists, NO WAY would I want to try an attack on Obama's inauguration! He's a prayer come true for them! If I'm an Islamic terrorist, in fact, and I knew a fellow Islamic terrorist who’s planning such an attack, I'd off him before he got the chance. Islamic terrorists with designs on perpetrating another 9/11 or worse on America in the next few years must be looking at Obama's choices for Attorney General, Homeland Security head, and now CIA head - and SALIVATING! If I'm an Islamic terrorist, I WANT Obama to take office.

For the very near term, I don't think any mass gatherings of people in this country - Super Bowl, etc. - are going to be in any more danger of being attacked, even with Obama in the White House, than they've been the last few years under George Bush; it's going to take Islamic terrorists a little time to regroup and reconstitute in sufficient strength to be able to reasonably be able to think about trying another 9/11. The undoing of George Bush's security measures isn't going to IMMEDIATELY strengthen terrorists with unholy designs on America.

But if Obama's "security" team institutes the policies we all fear they will, after about a year of his presidency, THEN all bets are off regarding the security of our institutions/gatherings from attack.

By the way, yes, I'm a baseball fan - and guess who I root for? The Red Sox! Yeah, I know, I'm a ex-Bay Stater who is happy to remain an "ex" for the rest of my life - but I was still born in Massachusetts, so I root for its teams. I sure hope Smoltz doesn't become the 2009 version for the Red Sox of the 2008 version of Curt Schilling: a 40ish pitcher injured and shelved.

This should be no surprise

Obama campaigned that he was going to weaken National Defense and intelligence capabilities.

Apparently Liberals voters are willing to allow americans to die.

Rowly RE John S.
I hadn't heard that; Last I saw Smoltzie he was moderating some sports event..My Uncle lives in Cumming and my son spent 8years at Emory getting 3 degrees so I became an *Honorary Georgian* according to some.. I'll be a fan of John's no matter where he goes..One of the LAST CLASS ACTS!! Have a Good Day!!

Obama Over The White House!
As usual, I was stricken by insomnia. So, last night (or early, early this morning), I once again watched the 1933 film "Gabriel Over the White House," which should be required viewing for everyone. If you can't watch it, here's a synopsis, with some current notes added in:

The newly elected President, Judd Hammond (or BHO), starts by saying voters will forget his election promises now that he has been elected; focuses more on his nephew than "REAL" experts; threatens to declare martial law (or darn near to it when one considers the War on the Economy, as bin Biden categorizes it); leaves Congress with little choice, but to capitulate to his demands and grant him the power to enact all necessary measures, unfettered by the normal system of checks and balances; assumes the mantle of "The Great Benevolent Dictator" (or "The One"); wages war on the private system and large corporations; orders a new "Army of Construction" - a massive public works program that will give a paying job to every unemployed (or union) man in America until the economy recovers (and to build "infrastructure"); spends billions (trillions, in this case), proclaims, “We need action—immediate and effective action" and attempts to solve his country's problems through authoritarian means (or trillion dollar deficits for years to come); goes into massive debt to achieve "prosperity".... ALL BECAUSE THE UNITED STATES IS "TOO BIG TO FAIL" WITHOUT GOVERNMENT'S CONTROL.

An uncredited screenwriter was FDR, but it could have been BHO.

Obama, keep flying over the WH. We can't afford you.

"When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro... (or get elected as President or elected to Congress)." Hunter S. Thompson

Dot I's and Cross T's?
"Panetta will, presumably, curb such practices as waterboarding, rendition and warrantless wiretapping. So we won't gather much intelligence - but our spies will dot all the i's and cross all the t's."

Why do we need to combat Terrorists under the rules of the Geneva Convention? Last time I checked, Terrorists make up there own rules and actually have performed acts such as Beheading as a form of torture!

Good thing Panchetta is in charge. If I was in his position, I would beat him with the board after I was done.

Support our Troops

Speaking of Smoltz,he is one class act.He and Tom Glavine, both. Tom went to the Mets for a couple of years, but returned to Atlanta to finish out his career. It may already be over, since he had arm surgery last year.

Both he and Smoltz live around Atlanta,so I know Smoltz did not want to leave. I believe he left with hard feelings toward management and I hate that. I don't know the whole story yet,but he and Tom are good friends and that's another reason I thought he would never leave.

Evidently,Atlanta did not offer him much. Boston offered 5 million for a year with incentives.I hope he will be able to pitch at least a year. Smoltz also had surgery last year.

One of my sons lives in Marietta and his son lives in Kennesaw.I live near Augusta.

Torture

Most everyone opposes torture.

Only Liberals oppose pressuring terrorist for information.

I hope you are right that we are not in danger in the near future. I do know many Muslims were happy that Obama won.

I also know he has said he would side with the Muslims if the winds changed ,or something like that.

I think this man is totally dependent on someone to do his thinking. Thus,he has let the Clintons to it for him. I distrust the Clintons almost as much as I do him.

I don't think either has the best interests of our country at heart. I just hope we are strong enough to withstand what they plan for us. At least long enough for some of his worshipers come to their senses and see him for what he is.

Torture?? What is it??
I sound like a broken record, but we need to define "Middle Class" in understandable terms before getting into "Torture" and Proportionality (whatever the H#(L that is).
All I know for sure is *they*, PEOB"s bunch, want to totally defang the CIA, DNA, ETC and that is a mistake we'll all regret for a long time, if we live that long..But don't pay any attention to me, I'm just an Old "Warmonger"!!!

Roy
These people do not want to be spied on while they are plying their trade. They want a 'yes man'who will go along to get along. Panetta is their man. They know what they are doing. The Clintons tried it and it worked.

Why is anyone listening to anything
Dick Morris has to say? He was an adviser to Clinton for years and his Campaign manager in 1996 until he was fired for letting his highly paid lady friends (prostitutes) listen in on his conversations with Clinton and other higher ups in the administration.

This guy is a trusted source of reliable info?

Wow, you folks are sure on to Obama!
He is a covert agent for the commies, or Al Queda, or who? Do you people really believe this crapola? Leon Panetta was once an intelligence agent in the Army, so he's hardly a novice. WHy do you want Obama to fail? So you can feel better about having supported the idiot who has been in the WH since 2001?

good work, enough said about these soon-to-be-fired columnists. They represent the really degrading part of American political thought, especially Morris.

Let metell U that I worked for a couple years in the Pentagon Basement, directly below the JointChiefs/War Room digs, but that certainly did not equip me to run the Pentagon..And ACTUALLY I wish Mr Obama well..My Kids'/Grandkids' Futures depend upon it!!
My future is already a "done deal" don't U think?? Have a good Day!!

Oh well since you asked. The reason people listen to Dick Morris is for his professional views. Not for his personal life.

Just because a person may be unfaithful to his wife, may beat his dog, throw trash out his car window does not mean the person is not an excellent carpenter.

To my knowledge, there is nothing in Dick Morris's personal life that would compramise his professional life.

He is a very smart guy, very politically savey, has and excellent sense of whats on the american people's mind, and was a big part of the success of Bill Clinton's professonal life as President. In fact many of the domestic decisions that Bill Clinton made as President were with the advice of Dick Morris.
