Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

Barack Obama had it half right when he said that the McCain campaign would focus on raising voters' fears about him.

He was wrong in saying that the chief point of attack would be that he "doesn't look like all those other presidents on dollar bills." He wishes that were it.

But McCain does need to raise fears about Obama - that is, play on voters' worries about electing a man they don't know who has only a few years of experience in federal office. (Indeed, Obama's only been in the Senate since 2005 - and he spent most of 2007 and 2008 running for president, paying almost no attention to his duties in the Senate - as witness his absentee record.)

These fears will focus on two key areas: the economy and national security.

McCain needs voters to hear repeatedly - from top economists and office-holders - that Obama's tax-hike plans spell economic doom. The campaign must explain that Obama is not simply raising taxes on the rich - that he's crippling their ability to generate jobs, make investments and produce wealth. (For example: "When Obama says he'll only tax the rich, he's saying he will only tax the engine room, not the rest of the ship.")

The public must learn what the impact of doubling the tax on capital gains would be - how it would drive investment out of the country and cost us one to two points a year in economic growth for the rest of the decade.

Voters must hear how Obama can't possibly finance his programs - particularly his health-insurance schemes - with the tax hikes he's advocating. They need to ponder the impact of these tax hikes on an already slowing economy - it's legitimate to fear a new depression, not just a recession.

Economics is a field voters don't know much about and, consequently, fear greatly. Obama can capitalize on the current hard times - but he can lose big time if the impact of his tax policies is explained.

On national security, events could take over and put the issue center stage. But McCain must lay the groundwork to take advantage of whatever situation develops. He needs to hammer home the accusation that Obama is "naive" and "inexperienced" - both of which are obviously true. He should run ads mocking Obama's claim that Iran is a "tiny nation" that could pose no real threat to the United States. He needs to hit hard at Obama's plans for Iraq and Afghanistan, hammer at Obama's opposition to the surge and refusal to vote to pay for the troops.

The offshore-drilling issue helps McCain, but it doesn't conjure the kind of fear that national security and the economy do. McCain has a long task ahead of him of burying Obama's credibility on these issues, and he needs to begin right away.

For better or worse, this election is about Obama. It is a referendum on the Democratic candidate and his agenda of change. McCain is a well-known commodity: Voter opinions of him are not likely to change much in the next three months. But their view of Obama is subject to wild fluctuation.

That's why the undecided vote right now is running at twice its 2004 percentage at this time in the race. That's why older women are withholding their approval of Obama. McCain can and must use August to tilt these doubts into negatives.

It's starting to look like McCain can win - if he does the right things.

How about some Akido?
John McCain is a complete and well-formed man. Barack Obama is completing himself. As he moves to fit what he perceives to be a right-of-center country, he distances himself from the simple and authentic passion of a young candidate who once pledged "Change We Can Believe In."

This is the trap Barack Obama has made for himself, the one he cannot escape, the one Hillary Clinton foresaw, the one that may doom him. The Obama campaign knows it too. In fear the dream is being lost drop-by-drop, they are going negative on John McCain.

McCain need not be a fear mongerer
There are serious issues about Obama's competency to be Commander in Chief and the Economy that should be attacked.

Unfortunately, McCain is just as weak on economic issues than Obama (although to McCain's credit he is a fiscal conservative). So I would suggest focusing on CIC first and then focusing on the economy with a Veep pick that works on that level. If not Veep, then announce your Treasury Sec. pick.

For Veeps, Palin is the best choice. A woman who wedges the Hillary supporters and a solid conservative who is very hip on engery issues.

If Palin is unavailable, perhaps it makes sense to tap Romney--if the emphasis is on business skills.

Fear Is McCain's Only Hope
He is a Trojan Horse Democrat, so conservatives won't vote for him. He will need enough frightened Democrats and independents to get elected. Are there enough?

Praying For A Miracle In Minneapolis
The only hope the GOP has is a convention that produces a different candidate. One that will uphold the laws of this country and not strangle us economically with carbon taxes.

wait till november
We'll have the necessary election and inauguration come January.

It must be John McCain; otherwise it's Obama. No shortcuts at either convention; that's a pipe dream.

We'll know more when the vice-presidential names come out. Since Obama's a rookie senator at best; he'll be driven by his fat cat sponsors in Congress to name a Bush-hater. That much is sure.

McCain's choice might be a woman. I truly can't imagine one who fits the office.

The men eligibles are an extremely bad field looking back at the GOP primaries. It should come down to a southern governor or party stalwart in Congress. Nobody mentions governor Mark Sanford of SC, whom I imagined would run strongly as incumbent VP come 2012. He's looking like an outsider today. I think that's a shame.

One thing's sure about McCain. He won't make rookie mistakes because his DC experience goes back so many years. He's seen the flops who ran in the past, and he won't let it happen to him.

dread...
great post...I agree with you...I thought Sanford looked like a good pick...don't know why his name was dropped. I still like Palin from Alaska...

Actually, McCain isn't pushing...
... the fear buttons enough. Despite what the Old Toe-Sucker says, McCain will not lose a single vote that could be his by working the race angle -- a black candidate WILL bring a mindset and values that are legit issues. McCain also needs to mention that, if you'd enountered the Honorable Democrat's name in a news story six years ago, you'd assume he was one of the 9/11 hijackers. "America... are you seriously thinking of voting for THIS guy?"

Know the real Obama
Read Saul Alinsky's Rules for Radicals and connect the dots to find the real Obama.

His entire work history and life's passions are found in those rules. He has never held a job that was not in aid of achieving the Utopian dream of Alinksy and his fellow travellers; Lenin, Stalin, Mao, Pol Pot, etc, etc.

Dick is wrong, Obama wants to kill the US economy and rebuilt into one that is much more confiscatory and centrally planned. That is why he advocates taxes that simply are not constitutional; his latest being the give poor folks a thousand dollar rebate for energy and take it out of the jeans of the shareholders of oil company stock.

Cheers,

Bloefeld

Dread...
I hope you are right about all that you said. I would love to see John Bolton as V.P. and as president someday. I think Palin doesn't have enough experience...yet.

The Republican Message
Every now and then, a townhall columnist will state the Republican Message of 2008:

Be Afraid. Be very afraid. And vote Republican.

If, on the other hand, you are an optimistic American who vote your hopes and dreams rather than be ruled by fear, vote for Obama.

MA: Obalmy only 9 points ahead
of McCain. That's incredbile. Of course obomination will will in this miserable godforsaken hole of a state, but obamessiah should be ahead by 20, hope this closeness in the darkest blue state (McGovern, Dukakis, Kerry) augurs well around the country.

BINGO! Spot on!

And between "The Obama Nation" by Jerome R Corsi and "The Case Against Barack Obama: The Unlikely Rise and Unexamined Agenda of the Media's Favorite Candidate" by David Freddoso, the dots will be connected, the "Ts" will be crossed, and the "Is" will be dotted.

And that's just for starters!!!

Oh, that's rich! Ranger, the little man

"Robert" presumes to tell Morris and McGann they're wrong???

Like the little twit knows anything!

Almost as arrogant as Marxist Obama...

Master of the Obvious?
Am I crazy in thingking that Morris' column makes defeating Obama sound so easy because it IS easy? BHO is so easily defeatable in view of his utterly non-sensical, anti-American, and socialistic world view that we can only wonder what the McCain folks are waiting for. Position the man's dopey soundbites alongside the rantings of his anti-American cohorts and his candidacy will crash and burn overnight.

Oh, Heck!
Wobbie is predicting again and unfortunatly I hope he's right for once. I like Palin, but with wobbies record, she's almost guaranteed to be bypassed!

Sarah Palin would be nice to.BUT
McCain will win Alaska anyway.
He'll also win Tenn.BUT

I think BHO is crashing.BUT
McCain does need to finish him off.

Oh what you do not know young man. Nam wasn't so huge either. Folks did not blow themselves up fanatically or fly themselves and good folks into buildings then. Just a handfull of men changed America forever, so don't come with that stupid tiny nation BS.

McCain 08.

John McCain
can handle Barack Obama, the campaign and the Presidency. He is battled hardened from an early age, knows all the ins and outs of Washington, understands the process - what is feasible and what is not, he knows all the players - the good, bad and the ugly.
He knows when someone is making it up as he goes along. Americans would be proud to have John McCain as President and worried about Obama - on the wrong side of every issue - worried and unsure do not actually cast a vote.

Fear, it works but is it right?
Dick and Eileen are quite right that fear "works." It has worked well for Republicans particularly since 9/11, but it has also worked well for Greenpeace and other radical environmental groups. It works for radical Islamists. Efficacy does not equate with nobility.

One could run a fear campaign against McCain just as easily. Is he more likely to start a shooting war with Iran that could cripple the world economy because of the Straits of Hormuz? Is he less likely to reign in the corrupt elements of the financial community that have severely wounded our economy? Is he less likely to really do something about our oil addiction?

Fear is an extremely potent tool in corrupt politics. Both the right and the left have often used it. A mature, democratic electorate should be able to see through it.

Blofeld #8 and Anne #18
Have just shown you the path to a greater
understanding of the true Obama.

He is not an “empty suit”; he is a “stealth candidate”
such as we have never seen before.

But you don’t have to go out and read a book.
Just read a few articles, now.

Start with Tony Blankley’s
“Who Is Obama? Where Is the Press?”

Then,“if you’re looking for the piece of the puzzle that
confirms and explains Obama’s network of radical ties”

Read an article…“Inside Obama’s Acorn” and explore the links.
Acorn has been involved in voter fraud in more than a dozen states.

In fact, BOTH Obama and HR Clinton are political disciples of
Saul Alinsky, who wrote “Rules for Radicals”

Clinton wrote her long suppressed senior thesis about him,
titled” There is only the Fight”

That is also the title of an article by Andrew Walden that
really is a must read, for she is still in the wings offstage.

All these are available online, if you care to look.

Ignore Robert

More Obama ignorance
"Iran is a "tiny nation" that could pose no real threat to the United States". Iran is actually larger than Alaska and with 66 million people it's no "tiny nation".

Obama's Senate Time and Race Relations
Yes, we are learning more and more that Obama is deceptive and a dangerous demagogue. His true experience is threadbare, and his so-called racial unity hypocrtical.

U.S. Senate Experience:

Just how much Senate experience does Barack Obama have in terms of actual work days? Not much.
From the time Barack Obama was sworn in as a United State Senator, to the time he announced he was forming a Presidential exploratory committee, he has logged 143 days of experience in the Senate. That's how many days the Senate was actually in session and working.

How about his real feelings on race, from his own words? Rather unsettling.

From Dreams of My Father :
'I found a solace in nursing a pervasive sense of grievance and animosity against my mother's race.'

'I never emulate white men and brown men whose fates didn't speak to my own. It was into my father's image, the black man, son of Africa , that I'd packed all the attributes I sought in myself , the attributes of Martin and Malcolm, DuBois and Mandela.'

'I ceased to advertise my mother's race at the age of 12 or 13, when I began to suspect that by doing so I was ingratiating myself to whites.'

'It remained necessary to prove which side you were on, to show your loyalty to the black masses, to strike out and name names.'

From Audacity of Hope 'I will stand with the Muslims should the political winds shift in an ugly direction.'

56 Or 57 Of The --How many States???
If the G0d-@mned FOOL, [and That's what he is, If, after staring at the Red and Blue States Map for YEARS, and Visiting and Stumpin'[electioneering] in Most of 'em] Still doesn't KNOW EX-actly Just how many States there ARE, How can He RULE and TAX the HEll --err-Uh--"Rich Reactionary Republicans" out of them, after the Coronation?? Oh!! Yeah, if we Create More States, Out Of The Very Dust Of The EARTH, we have a Larger Tax Base--- BRILLIANT!!! His First Miracle! HOSANNAH In The Highest, We'll All Be Saved, from Ourselves!!

What Scares Me about BHO
The rants of Wright & BHO's other ministers do not scare me! Michlle's lack of pride in America does not scare me! BHO's mutual aid society with Weathermen and terrorist is worrisome but do not "seriously" scare me!

BHO's ignorane, naivette, and inexperience does not scare me! BHO's self-aggrandizement does not scare me! BHO's extreme liberalism is bothersome but does not scare me!

BHO's "reverse" patriotism angers but does not scare me!

So what, if anything, about BHO scares me? Two things!!!

1. His policies would so weaken America that our vulnerbilities would be extremely expanded.
AND
2. OUR ENEMIES, WHO HAVE SWORN TO DESTROY AMERICA, WHOLE-HEARTEDLY ENDORSE BARACK HUSSEIN OBAMA. This scares the doowaddelly out of me!

Get a tape
of the Philadelphia debate where Obama says that, even though there may ( may?!) be evidence that reducing taxes causes an increase in government revenue, he as President has an interest in "fairness." With all the programs and taxes that he is proposing, do you feel safe living in what Obama would consider a "fair economy?"

Obama changes his positions
so often, that any tyrant would rightly conclude that he could be rolled. This is what caused the Cuban missile crisis. Krichiev saw Kennedy as a weak person who could be rolled. So he placed missiles in Cuba, and the world came closer to nuclear war than it has ever been. Imagine a President Obama with his over inflated ego. He'll get pushed around at first because he believes in his own ability to mediate conflicts. However, this will only get more pushing from the tyrants. Eventually Obama will say, I am Obama and I am not going to take this anymore. People are laughing at me! Then he will push the button.

no good
Obama's socialism will bankrupt this country and cause a major depression. There is no way the u.s could afford his propositions. Raising taxes on the rich will cost a loss of investment, loss of jobs and drive businesses overseas. People affected by his tax increases will simply raise the costs of goods and services to offset the tax increase and this will cause a further erosion of the economy for consumers.

Who is the real 'flip - flopper' here...
I wouldn't trust a word out of the mouth of anyone who was on the Clinton payroll and now is a stooge with Fixed News. Go anywhere there's a paycheck??!!

McCain will win
My take. There are not enough deranged, crap for brains, "people" in this country to put a commie, marxist, change artist in the highest office in this great country.

The democrats have nothing but hate going for them. They hate Big Oil, Big Business, big cars, airplanes, the military, our way of life, and this country. Where did all this hatred come from??? George W Bush defeated them TWICE and they can't get over it.

So, after this election and John McCain is the winner, I guess their hatred will be redirected to McCain.

Democrats are not smart people.

Three Presidents
Each candidate has a few good ideas. We should have three presidents, one Republican, one Democrat and one Independent. all together, they should be able to solve the energy, economy and security problem. One president just hasn't been able to do it.

"You Are Not The Man I Married"
August 6, 2008

There must have been millions of wifes who have said that maybe after a few months of marriage when realizing that they had made a mistake. The feeling they experience in the pit of their stomach is a queasy and alarming nausea as reality sets in and they try to engineer a plan for escape. Something similar has happened to the American people in the case of Barack Obama. He is not the same candidate he was when the Democratic Primary began. The events that he has participated in, the unclear energy policies and war strategies, his unwelcome responses at a Town Hall meeting were some sincerely troubled individuals were told to "run for President themselves". Obama is lucky that he has the millions to do that, these people only wanted their concerns addressed. He is not the messiah, the energizer bunny of hope or anybody even resembling the virtues and personal strengths of JFK. The voters found out that he is just another South Side Chicago politician who has no credentials to be President, an empty but expensive suit.

Chad means Dick Morris:
"Who is the real 'flip - flopper' here...
I wouldn't trust a word out of the mouth of anyone who was on the Clinton payroll and now is a stooge with Fixed News. Go anywhere there's a paycheck?"

The FOXNEWS cannel is our best news source and hires mostly the best political pundits. Dick Morris is the very best of those. The wonderful thing about him is, Dick always speaks sense. He guided Bubba, that's true. Why should you argue with success?

He consistently gives the best account of the political scene. Even if he can't be right every time predicting what is to come; he takes every angle into consideration. And he's never boring.

If you want to be bored, go listen to David Gergen. He once was on George Herbert Walker Bush's payroll. That was a waste of Republican money. He's boring in the bargain. Or maybe Chad prefers Stephanopolis? Haha!

Taxing capital gains and corporations
The argument of "realcon" that the rich will invest here regardless of being soaked by taxes (because there is nowhere else that is safe to go) is ridiculous. The rich ALWAYS know where to put ther money, and with a click of the mouse, it won't be in the U.S. if Obama is elected. Check it out. Talk to some rich people. Brazil seems like a good bet. They are almost energy independent. They produce a lot of food. They are politically stable. They have a variety of good climates. Might be a good place for American Entrepreneurs. Polish up the Portuguese, and take off for Rio.
