Was the Copenhagen Global Warming Summit Walk-Out a Win for the U.S.?

The list of issues on which Barack Obama has flipped now that the primaries are over is long and growing rapidly.

• He says he believes in a Second Amendment right to bear arms.

• He now opposes late-term abortion.

• He suddenly is a devotee of using faith-based institutions to deliver public services.

• He now says that he won’t raise Social Security taxes on anyone making less than $250,000 a year. In the primary, he said he’d eliminate the threshold entirely, including on people making as little as $100,000.

• He recently opposed the Fairness Doctrine for talk radio.

• Now he says he’s going to consult with the military before pulling out of Iraq.

But so extensive a list of flip-flops, all in the past few weeks, begs the basic question: Was he lying before when he was a liberal, or is he prevaricating now?

Even if Obama means what he is saying as he moves to the center trying to win the general election, the fact is that he will be forced to move very far to the left should he become president, forced by the liberals in his own party.

If Obama wins, it’s more than likely that he will take office with a Congress filled with Democrats and liberals. Most probably, the Senate will have at least 55 Democrats (including pickups in Colorado, New Mexico, Virginia, New Hampshire and Alaska). And there might be as many as 62 (possible Democratic pickups include Maine, Minnesota, Oregon, Kentucky, Texas, Kansas and North Carolina). The House will, of course, be solidly in Democratic control.

Faced with the same situation in 1993, as he took office as president, Bill Clinton found no alternative but to move dramatically to the left, shelving for the moment his promises of a middle-class tax cut and welfare reform. He had no choice. The Democratic majorities in both Houses served him with notice: Either you stay within the caucus and not cross the aisle in search of support for centrist policies, or we will do unto you what we did to Jimmy Carter when Tip O’Neill turned on him and made his life miserable. Clinton was forced to emphasize healthcare reform over welfare changes and to go with a liberal economic stimulus package capped by big tax increases. The liberal stain sank so deeply into the fabric of his presidency that it caused him to lose Congress in 1994, and almost to lose the 1996 election.

It will be the same with Obama. On all of his basic issues, the Democrats in Congress will hold his feet to the fire and make him govern to the left. On his signature issue of Iraq, he may find himself with a war already won, a democracy already stable and a problem already solved. Nevertheless, he will be forced to rip the scab from the wound and set it bleeding again by bringing our troops home prematurely. His healthcare proposals will be forced far to the left until they amount to a government takeover of the healthcare system. Obama will not be able to govern from the center. His party won’t let him do it.

Ultimately, Bill Clinton’s congressional supporters became his jailers and he morphed from their leader into their hostage. Dependent on every last Democrat to pass legislation in the House and to prevail over a filibuster in the Senate, he found himself pushed further and further to the left until, he told me, “I don’t even recognize myself.” He had to lade his economic and anti-crime package with pork to satisfy urban congressmen and to win their support of a bill that included a federal death penalty.

Obama will not be able to help himself. The Democratic majority in Congress won’t settle for triangulation. They will make the Obama of November into a liar and the Obama of the primaries into an honest man.

OBAMA
MANCHURIAN CANDIDATE

What about Social Security?
Clinton had six years with a Republican Congress. He rejected the findings of his very own soc-security-blue-ribbon-task-force led by Democrats Kerry and Breaux. And that's after they came up with a very reasonable plan. Republicans did not reject the findings.

Clinton didn't do anything because Democrats didn't want to lose the s.s issue by solving it - prove me wrong. But maybe you're saying that he didn't have a choice. If true - that's scary.

NOT flip flops:: "CHANGE"

My head is spinning:

WHO can keep up with Obama's "CHANGES" every day he changes his story, position, viewpoint, history, credentials, etc.

SO that is what OBAMA means by CHANGE:

calculate every lie and then calculate his lies about his lies:

OBAMA's change about everything is perpetual.

Can't run Medicare or VA Hospitals

HMMMMMMMMMMMMMM obama wants to control our health care (AKA RATION IT) as he plans to ration our food, energy, and transportation.

WELL, that Government controlled by democrats can't even run the VA Health care system or Medicare: it is all "RATIONED" health care:

NO energy policy
Schools are a miserable failure
Infastructure is in shambles
and the list of miserable government controlled failures goes on and on

NOW Obama wants to run the Oil companies and our Health care: He wants forced servitude and mandate speaking Spanish:

He can't even keep track of what he said ten minutes ago:

Which version is it this HOUR ?

Obama's Talk and Walk the Talk

Tick Tock: Tick Tock:
As the clock goes around and around
Change the story for this hour

Spinning wheel, spinning wheel
As the wheel turns around and around
Another version he has found

This way, that way,
Lean to the Left, lean to the Right
And they all fall in.

Obama's change will mostly be his mind
But, of course, he will *govern* from the left.

He's a 19th c. socialist, post WW I pacifist, and mostly plain stupid politician.

His various swings are even beginning to annoy the left.

Dems. run DC, and it is the murder captial of the US, has the worst schools of all the worst schools, and has been totally abandoned by its governers, who live in Georgetown and/or the horse farms of VA. Certainly wouldn't want to live there.

To avoid the Obamanation of our country, please support McCain, send money, get out and work.

A big fal liar...
But, at this moment in time Sen. Obama has a good chance to win the Presidency. Not only is this a scary thought, but, it shows that not enough americans trust the Republican party and conservatives to govern and that is not his fault.

What a crock
Dick Morris somehow infers that Barack Obama would consider his "evolving" positions on the issues should he be elected. Is anyone that stupid? This man is an extreme liberal socialist, he even reaffirmed in his own words that he is a "progressive," which is to say he is to the left of the left.

I am beyond mere concern at the ability of political figures, their aides, the media and especially the public to allow such obvious, in-your-face deception by someone who wants to lead this nation. Outright panic would more suit my emotional position.

To be blunt, Dick Morris and all the others like him who both pontificate for personal gain and provide glossy speculation disguised as commentary are as much to blame for the ignorant among us as anyone.

Mr. Morris, the future of the United States of America is not a game to challenge your political strategic abilities, it is a nation of 300 million people who depend on our nation's leader to make the right decision. The real game is deadly serious, not an exercise in imagery.

Talk versus Action

I care very little what a politician says while they're running for office - LOOK at Obama's voting record:

Left of Ted Kennedy on most issues
Left of NARAL on Abortion

Obama IS a liberal and has acted as such for years. Anyone who thinks otherwise is a FOOL.

I'm certainly not surprised.
Come election time, Democrats always make a right turn, followed by a left once elected. They wouldn't be elected at all on their own agenda.

Better Than More of the Same
I'll take Obamas and Dems shifting economic policies (Balanced Budget Amendment, Rebuild New Orleans, Alt. Energy Economy, Invest in Ifrastructure) over another false "conservative" platform (Deficit Borrow and Spend, Rebuild Iraq and Afghanistan, No solutions for healthcare, housing, energy, immigration)!

Obama will not need to be "forced"
to govern from the left. He knows very well this will happen; in fact he is COUNTING on it. So he can say whatever he thinks will get him elected now; and afterwards will pretend to be "forced" to adopt policies he favours anyway, the very ones he detailed during the primary.
Morris and McGann are being disingenuous, in a long line of far-left Obama enablers and helpers from the MSM.

Better Than More of the Same, Gerard
"Rebuild New Orleans" what does that mean? Bring back all the thugs and murders after building them some new housing projects? After all he's a Community Organizer.

Maybe he'll model it after all the good work he did with rebuilding the south side of Chicago.

...Ya think?

It's Not "Change" It's "Refining"
Obama calls it "refining my position." He's going to Iraq and will be refining his position on the war some more. Obama wants to be able to tell whatever crowd he's talking to what he thinks they want to hear; in front of a different crowd, he will refine it back again.

The fact that this guy is seriously running for the POTUS is amazing. His groupies actually think he should be POTUS; how sad for America.

We're still 3-1/2 months away from election day, and I'm soooooooooooo sick of hearing his lies and the media covering it up for him. The AP should just call themselves the OP since they are obviously working specifically to get Obama elected; to hell with the country. People should quit buying their newspapers; what a waste of paper!

What Obama should refine is oil! That we need.

Obama's position is precarious.
If this guy leans any further to the right McCain will be in danger of having Obama as a running mate.

One can only hope. . .
I hope events play out as Mr. Morris and Ms. McGann state. Clinton's first two years in the Presidency directly led to the best policy years out of D.C.,'95-'97, since '81-83, and '21-'23 before that.

dick morrisand flip flopping
the subject of the column might or might not be a legitimate one, but you should be ashamed of letting dick morris antwhere near a computer that has the potential for writing the words flip flop on it. it might be the firat computer to blow up a building. .

Duh
The GOP is completely broken and it will take at least 8 years to fix it. Obama will run just slightly to the left of center in his first term. Once he is re-elected, he will take a hard left turn. If that turn is hard enough, it may give the GOP a chance to reinvent itself and be nationally viable in 2016. But if is truly a moderate and governs from the center, the Dems could hold power for another 25 years.

No one knows
what Obama will do if he gets elected. Its certain how he will vote if McCain makes it. He was last year's most liberal senator and if he continues to be a senator, he will remain there. A moderate president will not solve the oncoming problems. For the next elected president to serve 2 terms and exit with over 50% approval he is going to have to solve at least some of them. Neither Obama nor McCain has the smarts nor the voter backing to do this.

The Only Thing
Obama is good at and can be trusted to do is change his mind.

Obama will Govern from the Left ? ?
Really ?

Wow ! That Dick Morris is amazing !

Maybe in his next article he'll predict McCain will support McCain / Feingold.

Govern from the Left
Why would anyone think differently? J. Wright, B. Ayers, Michelle, everything, was it a lie? I don't think so. He is what he is and his voting record clearly shows who he is, so, why would he change. He knows exactly what he's going to do. It's just too bad that the majority of us will suffer because of it.

Prevaricator or Liar?
“They will make the Obama of November into a liar and the Obama of the primaries into an honest man.”

No Dick, they won’t. He is rated as the most liberal Senator currently serving. His voting record, his statements and writing, and his radical associations speaks for themselves.

He is simply saying whatever it takes to get elected and you darn well know this.

Senator Obama won’t even need the gentlest nudge from his liberal brethren to stay in line. He will have a hard time controlling the Congress, however, because it isn't as liberal or as radical as he is. If anything, the moderate Democrats will try to push him toward the center.

Obama Supports Infanticide
This is according to Jill Stanek:

"Barack Obama is so radically pro-abortion he supports infanticide, as evidenced by his active opposition to the Illinois Born Alive Infants Protection Act. This makes him further left than any U.S. senator and even NARAL."

It really doesn't matter what he says this week, Obama voted for infanticide when he opposed the Illinois Born Alive Infants Protection Act. No pro-lifer should be fooled into thinking that Obama has changed his position on abortion in general and late-term abortion specifically. No pro-lifer should vote for Obama.

Closet Commie??
The Democrat Playbook was written by Karl Marx, Fredrick Engles, and Joseph Stalin a LONG time ago. Anyone who half Dozed through the Mandatory High School course "Americanism VS: Communism" or similarly named course, [and that Should be All of you who graduated in the '60s], will recognize the Flip/Flop "Say anything they want to hear" method of acquiring power, and advancing the Commie Agenda. You may Rest Assured that "Barrack the Beautiful, Mesmerizer of Millions, and Grand Mufti of Chicago" will revert to his Far-Leftist, Black liberationist ways, two daze after His Coronation!!

NObama the "CHAMELEON" lies again.
He changes his color and/belief to match the political environment/landscape he is currently in. LOSER LOSER LIES LIES NO CHANCE NObama.

obama to the left
I doubt there is a boundary to just how far to the left "osama" obama would go on his own. he doesn't need to encouragement or pressure of a leftist congress, he'll go there on his own initiative.

Dick Morris
I am glad to find out I am not the only person who believes Dick is a "spy". You can't oppose the Clintons this long and still be breathing. He is either a spy or a really bad strategist. Where are the qualifications for a political strategist and/or political pundit listed. Some of these experts just appear out of nowhere somewhat like Obama.

pals
Considering Pelosi's influence in the house and the fact that both she and Obama are left of left, I would say that if he were elected we would indeed be in for some radical change.

Merle
"I would say that if he were elected we would indeed be in for some radical change."

***

This is my most heartfelt prayer.
