Poll
Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

While Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) hangs in there, locked in a tough race with Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.), the Republican undercard is facing obliteration in the 2008 general elections for the Senate. Polling suggests that a massacre may be in the offing — and one that’s possibly even greater than the worst of previous GOP years: 1958, 1964, 1974, 1986 and 2006.

Scott Rasmussen, whose site, www.rasmussenreports.com, follows these races closely, is producing truly hair-raising polling data.

Of the open Republican Senate seats in contention, Democratic victory seems very likely in Virginia (Democratic former Gov. Mark Warner now has 55 percent, while fellow former Republican Gov. Jim Gilmore stands at 37) and New Mexico (where Democratic Rep. Tom Udall takes 53 percent to GOP Rep. Steve Pearce’s 37 and 57 percent to Republican Rep. Heather Wilson’s 36). In Colorado, Democratic Rep. Mark Udall has a narrow lead over Republican Bob Schaffer (45-42). Nebraska would seem safely Republican, but a humongous black turnout in Mississippi could elect former Democratic Gov. Ronnie Musgrove, just as it led to a Democratic congressional victory in a bi-election this month. Score them: two Democrat, one leaning Democrat, one leaning Republican, and one Republican. A net loss of two or three seats.

And then there are the endangered incumbents. Three GOP senators are actually behind their Democratic challengers. Alaska’s Ted Stevens is behind Mark Begich by 47-45. Elizabeth Dole trails Kay Hagan in North Carolina by 48-47. And Jeanne Shaheen is well ahead of John Sununu in New Hampshire, 51-43. Stevens’s legal problems and the likely huge black turnout in North Carolina make all three states lean Democratic at this point.

Even when GOP incumbents lead, they are perilously under 50 percent. In Oregon, as of this writing, Gordon Smith leads Jeff Merkley by only 45-42 and Steve Novick by 47-41. And in Texas, John Cornyn leads Rick Noriega by only 47-43. In addition, Norm Coleman in Minnesota is hanging on by his teeth against Al Franken, 50-43; Susan Collins is only narrowly ahead of Rep. Tom Allen in Maine, 52-42; and in Kansas, Pat Roberts holds only a 52-40 lead over Jim Slattery. Mitch McConnell in Kentucky may also be in trouble.

So, among incumbents, score it three leaning Democratic, two tossups, and three leaning Republican.

Overall, that’s a likely Democratic pickup of five seats, with an eight-seat gain possible, and, in a partisan wipeout, a 12-seat shift.

Mon dieu!

In all likelihood, the filibuster will still remain a theoretical Republican option, but, in practical terms, may be beyond reach, especially if Obama wins the White House.

Driving the GOP’s imperiled Senate situation, or course, is a massive shift in party identification. While the two parties are normally about tied in party ID, the Democrats now enjoy a 44-30 advantage in the latest Fox News poll of April 29.A combination of the Iraq war, gas prices, the credit crisis and a looming recession are dragging down the Republican Party, big time.

So is a president with a 28 percent approval rating. Bush needs to go out and tell America that things are bad, but not that bad. There are solid signs that the economy may not be tanking after all. Unemployment, while rising, is still at historic lows. The credit crisis has not led to a wholesale collapse of the financial industry and the instability appears to be easing. And, in Iraq, we are approaching a more stable situation with lower combat deaths. Bush, who has largely been hunkered down in the White House, needs to hit the trail and move his ratings up into the mid- or high 30s, not an insurmountable challenge.

Will the endangered Republicans recover? Most have prevailed, in the past, by lifting their personal ratings out of possible danger early in the race. But when long-term incumbents find themselves mired in the high 40s or low 50s in vote share, it indicates a massive voter desire for change that is not likely to abate.

In the House, the incredible three Democratic bi-election victories, combined with the retirements of so many Republican incumbents, indicates that the GOP may be facing disaster there as well.

This is not a good year to be a Republican.

GOP Senate Massacre of '08
Good! That is exactly what should happen to a party that has been going left and distanced itself from its conservative base. We the people have lost control of OUR Government and this November we and conservative Christian-Judaic America will get exactly what we deserve (No representation whatsoever at any level of what used to be OUR Government). But don't fret, over the next four years, BUY Gold, Real estate, and hang on to God and your guns. We're gonna need 'em. In 2012 Vote for a new Conservative Party. Oh, by the way, we only have 53 months to form one.

Chris
Appreciated your thoughts.

In my mind, a vote for 3rd party is a vote for BHO. McCain will need all the help he can get. Not that he's 100% conservative, but I think he is solid on Iraq/Iran and taxes. Much weaker on "global warming", and social issues. But BHO and HRC are complete disasters for the US. But i'd take HRC over BHO - I think she understands Iraq/Iran much more than BHO, but she is forced to pander to the far left. But she looks done anyway.

Also, i think the Republicans are at risk possibly to lose the ability to filibuster..the dems could come up with the magic 60 in the senate. What a disaster. That would negate alot of what the asleep Republicans could do in the senate in my mind. But they would wake up - hopefully, just not sure what they really could effect then.

It's just an embarrassment how little the Republicans were able to accomplish when they held the Presidency and both houses. But the Republicans did not have the 60 Senator supermajority...it might be different if the Dems have it.

Hold on to your kids, your wallets, and your constitional rights - democrats are coming, and they mean to strip us of much of this.

We can do it!
And it's up to us if it's going to get done. Check here and see what I'm talking about, it's too long for TH character limits. Besides there are other articles, too.

Meanwhile, I'm going to Grassfire to try to stir people up there.

Laffer Curve
Arthur Laffer popularized the Laffer Curve. It explains why tax revenues went up after tax cuts by JFK, Reagan, and Bush 43.

It simply says that above a certain tax rate, raising tax rates will discourage economic activity and reduce tax revenue to the government.

A simple thought experiment will also confirm the concept - what would happen if we raised all tax rates to 50%, then 90%, then 99%, then 99.9%? Eventually no one would pay taxes - they would retire or work for money under the table.

The real question is not "Is the Laffer Curve concept correct" but "what combination of tax rates yeilds the maximum possible revenue"? The increased revenues after the three tax cutting periods I mentioned before demonstrate that rates were higher than the optimum point before the cuts in all three cases.

I think what you're referring to (what Stockman was pushing from the OMB in the early 1980's) is "supply-side economics" which is a broad system of economic thought (including the Laffer Curve) that has problems in other areas.

Oh - and Reagan was an actor, not an economist, but his instincts were right on the money. I prefer to look at results, not what some guy said about it afterwards in order to sell a book.

laugh ler curve

just for the heck of it you should read david stockmans autobiography. remember him, hes the one who pushed laughler. read it and weep. in it stockman admits that he and the whold reagen administration thought the thing was a joke and only used u=it because it looked good as a visual. everyone except reagan that is. he never did nknow what the heck he was doing anyway. readi t. its guaranteed to take anout 50% of the lustre of the reagan administration away.

John Konop's tax increase
We're on the top end of the Laffer curve, so a tax increase will only slow down the economy and thus not bring in more revenue.

Bush's tax RATE cuts (one of the FEW things I appreciate from him) actually caused revenues to rise [don't believe me? look it up] - but he & the GOP congress increased spending at a faster rate; thus increasing deficits.

The only real solution to the deficit is to cut spending, which neither the GOP nor Dems want to do.

Political Truth Serum
Very interesting!

Newsweek-Fellow Americans, I know you worry about the economy. So do I. But, frankly, if you elect me, I won’t do much about it. It’s a $14 trillion economy. Every three months, 7 million Americans change jobs. Presidents aren’t powerful enough to steer this colossus. Sure, we can pass “stimulus” programs, but if we overdo it — as we did in the 1970s — we will make the economy worse. Believe me, presidents would prevent recessions if they could.

What we can do is preserve an economic climate that favors long-term growth. That means holding down the tax burden to maintain incentives for work and investments. We’re already running a $400 billion deficit or so; some broad-based tax increases may be needed. This will disappoint conservatives, who think no one should pay taxes, and liberals, who think only the rich should pay them. But we must also cut spending, because unless we do, the future tax increases will be crushing.

"... it completely baffles me why any sane thinking American would even consider BHO..."

Unless McCain comes up with a really amazing VP, and maybe even then, I'll be voting 3rd party this fall.

The possibility of BHO taking the presidency doesn't bother me much because that will cause the currently complacent Republicans in congress to oppose his moves to the left.

If McCain is elected, the GOP will continue to go along with whatever big government he wants, and the Dems will support any of his moves to left.

I also think (and hope and pray) that BHO's administration will be even less competent than Carter's.

Basically, even though BHO is more liberal than McCain, the country may end up less liberal.

Hopefully the GOP will get a clue. I had been irritated with Sean Hannity's commitment to the GOP, but it was great to hear him tear Boehner a new one this afternoon.

morris.....zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
he misses many of his predictions..Iam not saying he's wrong on this issue but he is not as accurate as some may believe!
Look it does look bad today...but things can change over night----REMEMBER NEW YORK:9/11!
At the moment at looks like WHICH PARTY IS THE
DUMBEST?
ELVIS

Dick it right about the masssive losses
I see virtually no effort on the part of the Republican Party to even communicate with the base. They are sending out emails looking for money without addressing the concerns of Republican voters. When you walk out on your base you lose. The President turned his back on the base and so did the Republican Party. No leaders in sight so I guess we just watch the wipe out and pick up the fight when we find some back bone and leadership.

Lack of leadership
Ever since 2000 the Republican party has shown by every measure that there are no leaders in this party. While living in Tennessee when Frist was the Senate majority leader, I was rightly proud of the Senator from Tennessee. But as I watched his ineptitude in leading the majority, it became clear he was not a leader. No one since Newt Gingrich has shown any real principled leadership in the GOP. There are to many go-along, get alongs in the party. The me too gang! We can only hope that a real leader will emerge or that a new party is actually formed and the GOP disappears as it should.

This may not be bad after all
I happen agree with El-Rushbo. Losing the Senate is probable yes. Losing the Presidential Race is likely as well. Whats the best that can happen if neither takes place? We have a liberal Republican for President and a moderate Reblican Senate who act like liberals. If all were going to get with any candidate is liberal policies let the Dems have it all, flaunt it all, show the people what they really want to see which is raw unrestrained socialist power. Once the people get the bill see how quick the people who love socialist policies all of a sudden love Republicans again. That's how Reagan was born.

What am i frightened about with Obama/demoratic rule?

For Starters:

1) BHO goes to Iran, and talks...and talks, and appeases just like Carter. In the meantime, Iran gets nuclear capability...sells them to Al-Qaeda...1+1="Death to America"

2) We pull out of Iraq, the single greatest mistake we can do - it will embolden our enemies, and give Iran and Al-Qaeda a base of operations and no one, i repeat NO ONE will ever believe or Trust the United States again. All the terrorist states love B. Hussein Obama - they've practically endorsed him - why do you think that is?

3) We get more Supreme Court justices like Ginsberg, Stevens, etc. who say partial birth murder is a constitutional right, .and other such hogwash

4) My hard earned dollars - after years of working and saving, will be taxed out of existence...to pay for "universal" Medical care

5) The immoral social agenda of abortion and gay marriage and other misguided issues that the left has managed to drive into my children as "acceptable lifestyles".

6) The elitist democrats, who clearly know more than ourselves what we need, and who we apparently need to take care of us because we don't have the will or brains to do it ourselves - these "leaders" will take away freedoms of speech and commerce, and replace them with a leftist style socialist-Marxist-soviet machinery if they could get a way with it.

7) a man who stays in a church for over 20 yrs with a "spiritual mentor" the likes of Wright - and I should trust BHO's judgment, with his message of "change" for America?

I'm not saying Republicans have been stellar, but it completely baffles me why any sane thinking American would even consider BHO who hasn't done a thing in his life, clearly not in the Senate, and give him the most powerful position in the free world? Michael Savage might be right – liberalism is a mental disorder.

Every tax that is imposed on the oil companies is added to the price of gasoline. Why don't you call for an investigation on how much of the price of gasoline is taxes. It's now about 42%. The oil companies get less than 3%.
Hussein will make his first move the surrender of the US to his Islamo-fascist-terrorist leader and make this the Islamic States of America. Don't believe a word he says: He is allowed to lie under oath. So we have to prevent him from that.
A number of democ-rats are running as conservatives.
It was crossover-in-open-primary democ-rats and indis that gave McCain the nomination, not repubs.
Maybe, in Jan, after seeing what is now the govt, the people will take back the country.

I am hoping that
before the democ-rat convention, McCain will switch to the democ-rat party and take the democ-rat nomination, and the GOP convention will nominate a real Conservative.
Regardless who is elected Pres, vote in a large majority of Conservatives to the House and Senate to prevent the Pres from doing anything. That is the only way the United States will survive the three liberals.

Dick Morris
I do not trust anything this man has to say and do not have any use for him. He is a shill for whatever wind is blowing.

Buck-PA-You can rant all you like but when you awaken one day soon and find that there really IS a God who has never stopped loving His people, the Jews, then that will be a crying day for you. God told them (or us) that He would never leave them (or us) or forsake them (or us)--It was when the Jews left Him that they started their downhill slide. BUT He is drawing them back to their country--His country-- and they will triumph, cause He put it in His word.
Our very survival is inexorably tied up with whether or not we are there for the Jews-- like it or not--God's Word has Never Changed--Never will Change-- may as well give in and read it and find out what your future is if you continue to hate the Jews.

As for me and my house we will serve the Lord and seek His will-- God help us-- this country has been led on a fateful journey by those who are truly blind--wake up and look hard at
William Koenig-DC-for president. I say he is the one we need. Unlike the 3 dims that are running around lying all over the place!!

WHO shoved McLame down our throats?
Pianogirl-Ga--Be aware of just WHO shoved 'John-Baby' down our throats!! It was the cross-over dims--not allowing us to have a better candidate. When Operation Chaos returned the favor by helping her keep going, you'd have thought the dims would wet their pants with disgust!!! Turn about, fair play. Probably too little too late, unless the blind dummies of the dim party should miraculously see the light. I find that usually always when a politician of any party, opens their mouths, they are LYING--just like the Clintons when the truth would serve them better. They do NOT
know how to tell the truth. And she thinks she should be president--arg-g-g-g-g-h-h-h-h-h!!!

And I know that the ARAB-American Muslim with the profane pastor would be the worst thing for our country--set us back with all the high taxes and getting his muslim buds in the WH!!!

Look up William Koenig-DC--just declared candidate-- Check him out and vote for him when the Convention declares him the candidate. Oh be still, my heart--but I can dream!!!

farmer's wife:
Thanks for showing up stevel's idiocy--but remember he is from Let'er Swim Kennedy, Kerry, Barney Franks and however-many-other-guys-who- love-to-love-on-other-guys-country--Massachusetts-- so sad to say that I have acquaintances in the state-- how these so-called intelligent people can continue to send the likes of these guys is FAR FAR beyond any comprehension !!!

Repubs Bad
So why has no one focused on the Dems that were going to change every thing their 1st 100 days? All they have accomplished is investigations which have yielded nothing.Every thing went to Hell after they took over!!

dbz77
how would they vote. they would vote with their feet. all of them men women and childre wouils rush to the nearest hospital and demand abortions whether they were pregnant or not. everybody knows that millegal immigrant cant wait to get an abortion. they get pregnant just for the simple joy of losing thweir baby and screwing the american gringos out of a few bucks in hospital bills. soon as they figure out a way to make money out of it .then look out. theyll be performing them in the middle of the street while doing the mexican hat dance. you dolt

Lost Franchise
I live in the district represented by Jerry Lewis, principal cause of the '06 (and upcoming) GOP wipeout in the house. He has represented the district since Trigger was a colt and there's no effective way for a lonesome conservative to register his objection. Alas!

How would I notice
With the exception of gun control, how would I notice a difference? They are both the Washington Party.

-Helping to win the war against terrorism? Nope
-Curbing ear marks and corporate/special interest pork? Nope
-Sealing the borders against illegal immigration and some terrorist backpacking a dirty bomb across the border? Nope
-Staunching the flow of good jobs overseas to cheap foreign labor? Nope
-Keeping the other legislative/special interest/PC/fundamentalist wacko guy from telling me what to do? Nope

Whats the difference again?

It doesn't matter. The fix is in.
It has been in for quite some time now. Just consider that the most likely next president is wholly a creation of the major media.

Allowing us the sham of a vote merely perpetuates the illusion that we have any say in the matter.

Here in my adopted home state of 17 years I have in watched in amazement as they effectively and brilliantly short-circuited any candidate who didn't adhere to the party line, to the point that anyone with a modicum of sense knows it's a waste of time, effort, and money to try.

Fred Reed said it best in the February issue of The American Conservative: "Finally, there is the press, which decides what the public is allowed to know. Unless you spend time outside the America, you may not realize to what extent the media is controlled. The press is largey free, yes, but it is also largely owned by a small number of corporations which, in turn, are run by people from the sam pool from which are drawn high-level pols and their advisers. They are rich people who know each other and have the same interests. We are ruled not by a government, but by a class. It is very nearly correct to say that these people are the government of the United States and the federal apparatus merely a useful theatrical manifestation."

Read it and weep. The sooner one gets that through one's thick head the less time one will waste imagining that his vote makes any difference and will stop wasting time on useless and fruitless endeavors.

Irresponsible GOP need to be humbled
The GOP has strayed away from its "principles" -- they have allowed lobbyists and looney Dems to determine the agenda and have been flaccid in their response. They deserved to be kicked you-know-where -- at least staying away from political office will humble them a bit. Shame on all those GOP leaders who voted for the "Farm Bill". Such rogues have no place in our party and they deserve to be booted out. Thank you, Town Hall, for highlighting on the insipid jokers who have ruined my party. They call themselves Reaganites to get elected and do the opposite to remain in power. Glad to see them losing.

Smitty
How would those Mexican Socialist voters vote on abortion?

Dick swings & misses again
Yes Republicans will get massacred but not for the reasons cited.

"combination of the Iraq war, gas prices, the credit crisis and a looming recession" -those are all symptoms of Republican stupidity, not causes.

Its all Demographics, Republicans allowed in tens of millions of Mexican Socialist voters, that's the whole reason we're in a gas crises, credit crises & face a looming recession-Bush & his Socialist buddies invited in millions of voting indigent foreign Socialists-that they financed with sub-prime loans.

the main albatross...
re:
"A combination of the Iraq war, gas prices, the credit crisis and a looming recession are dragging down the Republican Party, big time."

... is this endless, pointless, profligate, neoCON war of choice against the wrong bad Arabs. The dollar is getting hammered partly because of our being on a path of squandering $2 trillion for NOTHING. Middle America was neoCONNED (a solid majority believed that Iraq was connected to 9/11) into the quagmire by a relative few militant Zionists (Perle, Wolfowitz, Feith, Libby) who wanted permanent bases in Iraq to protect Israel's flank, as they had called for since 1996 (PNAC). The facile, fatuous excuses given for taking out Iraq soon proved to be charades because they were. Worse still, Saddam was OPPOSED to Iran and Osama. Such a deal!

William Koenig
Don't know his name?? He has thrown his hat into the ring--he is Conservative--he has his finger on the pulse of D.C.--his columns are extremely interesting. I believe he just may be the ONE that I have been praying that God would deliver to this NEEDY Republican party.

I challenge each of you to learn about him, judge him, and GET BEHIND him--- He would be an excellent president. Much wiser and more knowledgeable than any of the 3 dems running now. Open your minds to the reality of a very good candidate--not one that you did not choose (McCain) and neither of the two liars in the dim party.

Morris
You are part of the reason the GOP is in trouble. You came out at the beginning putting down Fred Thompson, and other conservatives. You said Fred was lazy, when you had no idea how busy he was.You said he wore a toupee on Law and Order, which he didn't. You put him down constantly. You pushed that laughable Huckabee, and then McCain. Now look where we are. Rino McCain!!
Now, you hate Hillary so much that if Osama Bin Laden were running against her, you would still tell people how awful SHE is.I'm scared of Hillary, but more scared of B Obama.
I also get your stupid newsletter on my email everyday, but I'm cancelling that! I've had it with you!! Cause I feel that thanks in part to you, I have to vote for McCain and his Rino views on illegal immigration, and global warming.

Chris
Why did Republican voters reject Ron Paul?

Talk about Biting Off Your Nose
My father (1909-1986), a lifetime voting Republican, had a favorite saying which reflected his view toward his defense of ALWAYS voting GOP, "Don't bite off your nose to spite your face." Despite whether or not a GOP candidate represented my father's stance on different issues, he always found a justification for supporting Republicans instead of Democrats. I have been following his example for the last 28-years and will do so again this year and support the GOP candidates/incumbants.

I have no doubt that four years of McCain may at times be unpleasant, but I think we can survive a term with him. I'm not sure our nation will not be "changed" beyond repair under Obama with a Democrat-controlled congress.

If for no other reason, please consider:
The SCOTUS justices most likely to retire are already are the most liberal, but who is more likely to attempt to appoint EVEN MORE LIBERAL justices? Obama or McCain?
And,it's not just SCOTUS. There are federal judicial appointments all over the nation waiting to be filled (and many appointments are being stonewalled by the current Congress). Imagine if federal appeal courts all over the land were populated by justices along the lines of the 9th Circuit!

So you're angry with the GOP and won't vote for RINO McCain? -- President Obama is an alternative? Don't bite off your nose to spite your face!

The Republicans did it to themselves
This party seems to be able to snactch defeat from the jaws of victory every time! They refuse to acknowledge their Conservative base with an ever growing paranoia, almost like they are the weird child-molesting uncle in the cellar.

When you try to "out-Democrat" the Democrats to get Democratic votes, this is what happens. Even election gimmickry aside, the current slate of Republicans are NOT Conservative by any measure! No matter who wins the Presidential election: McCain,Obamamessiah, or Hitlery, there's going to be a Democrat in the White House.

Just look forward to your freedoms going away, your ability to support your family going into the toilet, the State raising your kids, and a downward spiral into Socialism.

I guess the Baby Boomers finally did destroy this country after all?

Whose Fault?
For those who are complaining about McCain being the nominee.

WHOSE FAULT IS IT? Most of us had the opportunity to vote for Ron Paul.

Disgrace to Writing
First, I want to say that you, Dick, are a disgrace to mankind. You spend your career instead of reporting bashing and destroying people's lives. The name "hillary" is like a word programmed in your brain to start the negative words. I feel sad for you. You are an intelligent man. You don't seem to understand that the GOP's hope was this woman. Mccain will NEVER beat Obama. Even with Obama's sexual accusations by two men, the associations with terrorists, his angry wife, his crooked money dealings and all the other scandals that "we" are all aware of has not hurt him and Yes everybody is aware of them and still vote for this man. Yet, you, being, the so called voice crusadors of the Republican conservatives have made it almost impossible to not have this man as our President. The Fox network and this townhall mag can thank you for the "bais" mouth of yours. We can thank people like you for destroying our country. The 10,000 bloggers that we are involved with will do anything to make sure that the Florida and Michigan votes are counted and when that happens "she" will be your new president. So, stop saying that there is no hope- when this woman is the GOP, moderate and centrize Hope. Give your mouth a break without saying her name for one minute, son.

SCOTUS
If MCCain were to win (without my vote), and Mr. Morris and pollsters are correct that the Senate (and house, too I beleive) will have such a large Democrat majority, then I don't see how worrying about McCain's SCOTUS choices make a difference. Choose a true conservative? NO confirmation! Then, he would have to creep further and further left toward his beloved Liberal friends, until he picked one who would meet their approval.

So, the argument that I should hold my nose and vote for that RINO for POTUS because of any potential SCOTUS nominations doesn't hold water.

What Does It Take?
When I threatened to vote for Dem's or at least stay home in Nov, '06 it was because of J McCain & co. They stood in the way of good judges. They sided with the Dem's. They criticized evangelicals and thought this would be a winner for them. But, when vote time came, I couldn't do it cause of the horror I saw coming in the Dem sweep. But enough people did follow through with my threat, and the sweep happened anyway.
What is it going to take, for the RINO's like McCain, Snow, Lindsey Graham, and the senile senator from Alaska and his bridge to nowhere, to figure out that we aren't like the Dem voters who vote for the same party no matter what they do?
We are watching and the Republicans from Oregon and Washington St., Trent Lott from Miss. were not keeping faith with us.
We need core conservatives with a covenant like the Contract with America. You can't promise one thing and do another anymore, because we are watching.
We won't close ranks around Republican child molesters and dishonest politicians ( like the Democrat with the $90,000 in the freezer or like Repub Duke Cunningham)like the Democrats do.
We're not like them.
No money for the RNC!
No support for amnesty!
No more half measures in war! If it's bad enough to go to war, the it's bad enough to fight to win and make them sorry they messed with us.
What's it going to take to understand?

The GOP IS NOT LISTENING
Polls have shown that over 80% of American's do not want any form of amnesty! We want borders closed. It has been proven that terrorists have crossed our southern border. Many people have not seen the horrible pictures of our southern border because the media does not show them: the rape tents, the destruction of private and public property - people have made fun of and derided the Minutemen - grandparents, veterans etc who realize the dangers of open borders while we are in a terrorist war. John McCain recently met with LaRaza - who lobbies our politicians - despite the news that there are 12 million illegals in this country that taxpayers paid out over 349 billion dollars last year in their support, there are over 30 million. Do the math - with anchor babies and chain migration - in a few years 50 million - what kind of country will my grandchild, age seven, grow up in? Obama and Hill will tax us to death - leave borders open - and as far as dealing with terrorists - God help us with these two very flawed and inexperienced candidates - I wish to God the GOP has not sold us out - and they did! Do I write in Ron Paul - who was at least the most honest candidate of all and stood by his convictions and our constitution!

From a DINO
I registered as a Democrat for the PA primary because my Republican candidate was chosen for me by the independants and Democrats of other states. I voted for Hillary hoping that if she won, she'd take our Governor "Fast" Eddie Rendell with her. I will stay a Democrat because in the town where I live, in SW PA, no one runs on the Republican ticket, so I am basically shut on on primary day. Our Democrats run unopposed in November. So, I am a Republican stuck in a Democrat wig and glasses. Senator Specter (R) votes for AMNESTY for illegals every single time.(See NumbersUSA) Yet he laments that the Republican party in PA has lost so many voters. Congressman Murtha(D) is one of the biggest pork spenders and his remarks against our troops I consider traitorous. There is a former L. Colonel, William Russell, who was in the Pentagon on 9/11, a Republican, who is running for Murtha's seat. Murtha has been there since '73, time for a change. We need to start in the SENATE AND HOUSE, Congress is responsible for all of these problems..Check out William Russell(R)for CONGRESS. The congressional district that Murtha reigns over was gerrymandered to include the low-income, union, elderly and former steelworking towns that ensure his election decade after decade because of his bringing home of the PORK! Time for some new blood...

Bad Time to be an American
It is astounding that more Americans cannot see through the BS the Democrats are spouting. In addition, they continue to lie to the American people and get away with it. Pay-Go is a euphemism for raising taxes, inclusiveness went out the window immediately after Queen Nancy was annointed, transparency does not exist - even though it was promised, and I could go on forever. That the Republicans in Congress squandered a golden opportunity to lead is indisputable. While dissapointing, that is no reason to turn this country over to Marxists who will lead us rapidly down the path of everey failed civilization in history. It may be that the failure of our experiment in Democracy is overdue but I hoped that it would not occur until long after I was on the planet to witness it. With the Democrats in complete control, look for exponentially higher taxes, confiscatory fiscal policy that puts everything private citizens own into play for government to take, a terrorist attack the likes of which the world has never witnessed, the dismantling of our military and the ability to defend ourselves, and, potentially, the take over of the country by a foreign power when we surrender after the aforementioned terror attacks. Khrushchev was right, we will be buried from within.

Supremes
RINO McCain Feingold has made a campaign promise to appoint Supremes who will protect and defend the Constitution (Amendment 1?) more than they will protect and defend the erroneous decisions of dead judges (precedents). Sure he will--if he can get bipartisan support. If I ever want to vote for a Democrat, I will vote for a real one. It is time to let the GOP rest in peace and start or join another party. http://www.poorgrandchildren.com

GOP massacre.
While I agree with you about the prospective massacre of the GOP -- brought about by the GOP's own self-inflicted wounds -- but I must disagree about Mitch McConnell. The Democrats just handed him a PERFECT candidate in Bruised Bruce Lunsford.

Another example of GOP corruption...
This time in Hawaii. The Party is obviously not up to listening to its constituents, which is what will thrust it into the dust bin of history.

Here is an article that describes in detail the events of the Hawaii State Convention. As an aside, it turns out the whole thing was scripted to a T. The script is available in PDF form if you Google it.

The Historian-Sarah
You touch on a subject that has often been ignored - which is that a part of the problem for the GOP is that the Democrats, in most of the races, have done a much better job of recruiting candidates. They've been organized for the last 4 years, whereas the GOP has been asleep at the wheel. The two Udahl's in Colorado and New Mexico have long political family pedigrees, Musgrave - a former governor in Mississippi, Allen who beat the current GOP candidate for governor in Virginia, Sheehan a former governor in New Hampshire, etc. The three seats the Democrats just won in the house also reflect this, as in every case, the candidates had less baggage. And, of course, you have the pragmatic politics played by the Democrats who recognize that all politics are local, and are running candidates who reflect their districts.

And Sarah, don't mistake men like Liberman's conservative position on the war as an indication that he will vote for conservative justices. He still caucuses with the Democrats and represents Connecticut, and socially, he's a solid liberal - not a conservative. In general, the conservative tag applies more to the house races - than the Senate. And its the Senate that votes on justices - not the house.

Constitution
It is far past time for the turncoat and spineless Republican Party to vanish.

Vote for your Constitution, which will take care of our country on its own. Vote Constitution Party and let the chips fall where they may.

The GOP is bent on corruption
I attended the Georgia State GOP convention as an elected delegate.

There I witnessed the absolute squelching of debate and dissent. Our microphones were turned off during debate, our votes were misinterpreted by the chairman, and most hideously, the rules were changed the day before without a quorum.

Their blatant "shove McCain down your throats whether you like it or not" attitude is exactly what is killing the GOP. May it rest in peace.

If you care to, you can watch it here (30 minutes):

Perilous Times
And what might we expect from a vastly liberal Congress and White House?

Out of control spending and pork barrel ear marks that will send our country into bankruptcy? Oh, I forgot, The GOP already did that. Well, maybe federally funded health care? Oh, I forgot, Bush did that too with prescription drugs for seniors.

Well, how about losing our country to a foreign enemy? Well, I guess we are three for three. Bush tried that too with "immigration reform". So tell me, how much worse can the Democrats really be?

Keep Going
Look at 2010 and it gets even worse. I can't see George Voinovich retaining his Ohio seat. Ohio will again be a two-Democrat Senate state, having flopped from two Republicans six year before. The reason is the total lack of candidate quality. You can't tell the difference between Voinovich and Brown (the Democrat) if you mask out the names on the statements. And Brown is NOT a conservative; he is a Party hack.

morris the chameleon
so you are predicting a possible democratic landslide icome November. does that mean you are getting ready to swithch sides again that is if you can find wnyone on the emocratic side who still wants you. come to think of it its about ime lieberman started sweating under the coller. does he really believe that if dems win and dont need wven the semblece of his presence in caucus that they will accept him back with open arms and allow him to rastain his seniority and commiteed chairmenships, especially when he sold his soul to the devil lieberman better pary that the dems are noit even close ro a veto proof margin, because they will rightly cause him to form a one man caucus. the turncaot party.

GOP massacre
Republicans have tried to become democrats lite. Gilmore in Virginia, for instance. He didn't want to celebrate the Capitol of the Confederacy's heritage. The Reed and Rove, and maybe Morris, caampign to liberalize and "diversify" the republican party has merely demoralized it.

The Iraq war hasn't helped, either. Every time McCain opens his mouth to defend the war, he loses votes. The people of our country have decided this war is over, and don't want to hear othewise. What is Mr. Morris' prescription for that?

Bunch of scrotes
Here in Georgia, we're totally screwed as far as this year's senate race. RINO Saxby Chambliss, who never met a subsidy or earmark he didn't love, faces a feeble democrat slate. I looked over the libertarian candidate, Allen Buckley, and he's an enviro-wacko whose views would be welcome in the jackass party.

I guess I'll be writing in Ronald Reagan in that race, too.

Incumbents of both parties deserve to be run out of town on a fast rail, at best.

No one can predict the future
Dick Morris is mostly off in his predictions. I remember him saying that Senator Clinton and Secretary Rice would be running against each other this fall. Hummmm.

And I remember him saying that Senator Clinton would be the next president. Hummmm.

November is still a long way off. A lot can happen between now and then.

Conservatives where?
The only conservatives I've seen lately are Romney and Jindal. I gave money to Romney's campaign and and will make sure my entire family gives the maximum to anything Jindal runs for on a national platform, whatsoever.

RNC can suck eggs. I'm not even sure if I am going to vote for McCain. If anything, it'll be based upon the four-year health estimates for SCOTUS members. I'd just as soon let America experience Jimmy Carter, Jr. for four years to remind them how bad things can get.

BillH from MN - don't write in Reagan
BillH from MN - I agree with the sentiment. But if you write in a name, it won't get reported in the totals from many precincts, depending on their policies and type of voting machine. Instead, vote a conservative/libertarian 3rd party on the ballot. It will have the effect you desire.

The GOP might lose Susan Collins and Ted Stevens? That would be a good day.

to SteveL -
"To the evangelicals ("religious right"), Bush is a GREAT President, and they're STILL quite satisfied with him, even now"
Not so. I'm an evangelical religious conservative / libertarian (pro-life), and I'm NOT satisfied with Bush. Why do you think his approval rating is in the tank?

to JeffreyRO5 in MI
"Bush went left???
Uh, I don't think so. We don't want him either. He is near universally despised by liberals."

That's because he beat Gore in 2000, not because of his policies, which have moved far left relative to how he ran in 2000. Look at the new domestic spending & government programs, expanded Federal role in education and everything else. The worst thing was when he signed McCain Feingold in a clear violation of his oath to uphold the Constitution.

You Have to Admire Rahm Emmanuel
As DNC chairman, he smartly figured out that he could run more conservative candidates than the moderate, DEM-Lite, spineless GOP puts out there and snatch seats for the DEMS from the hapless GOP in God's country, the South. That alone is a testament to how pitifully NONCONSERVATIVE the GOP is today. A vote for the GOP is a wasted Conservative vote. Vote Constitution Party in 2008.

SteveL...you assume wrong..
you say, "Farmers, like your husband, got huge profits for their crops, and they also got more than enough fuel to power their tractors, while truckers and urban dwellers in the cities suffered."

Really SteveL, huge profits, you say. Well we sold our cotton crop that year at $0.30/lb . We lost everything we had due to 18 to 21% interest on our operating loans and losing most of our crop to a hail storm on October 31 which followed on the heels of 21 days of 100+ degree temps. We couldn't afford crop insurance at that time because before the 2000 Farm Bill only the richest farmers could afford it.

Thank you so much for telling me what kind of farmers and people you think we were. We spent the next 10 years after bankruptcy working two jobs apiece and rebuilding our credit and finally were able to go back to the life we love, certainly not for the money but for the joy of doing what you love.

I take it that you faired better. Well good for you. We make no excuses for any mistakes that we made and we climbed out and tried to correct them on our own.

. We wound up declaring bankruptcy in 1984 after trying for over 5 years to repay the debt

where does compassion meet with....
practicality, continued.

There should be definable differences and definable ideologies but we must find enough common ground to defend what we all are and that is Americans. We should all value liberty more than ideology and recognize that life, liberty and the pursuit of our own happiness is a blessing to be cherished, that is admired and envied by the rest of the world. We can do no good at all if we sacrifice our liberty for whatever politicians are offering in the moment.

I submit to you that all the issues we argue about and disagree about everyday are the result of the actions of the people we put in charge. We have what we have because that is the way they want it.

We need to stop sweating the small stuff, not that anything we face is truly small, but sere that there is a bigger and more important issue to recognize.

Do the promises that are being made by our presidential candidates today actually preserve your freedom as well as the freedom of all, or do they merely speak to the ideology you agree with while actually diminishing the freedom of those you disagree with?

Two children born to the same parents and raised with the same advantages or disadvantages while they were equally loved and equally nurtured will not usually come out equally successful in life. Neither can all Americans know equal success but we all have the most equal chance at the beginning of our life's journey than anywhere else in the world and for that we should be thankful.

Americans For America
I will start a party for americans who put american interests first. I am sure we can overcome this two party system that has now become one party under political suicide as the players on both sides of the aisle march on to the highest bidder. As an immigrant I did not live here during Reagan years or any of the other great presidents. All I know is that unless AMERICANS WAKE UP AND HOLD REPRESENTATIVES ACCOUNTABLE TO AMERICAN VALUES, this great nation will collapse like Britain did under poor immigration laws and like France did under same. Americans can stand up like they did when they objected to the immigration policy pushed forward by McCain, Kennedy and Bush. Americans can take back their country. Live free or die hard - but lets not get complacent with unamerican values that seek to destroy our nation.

Morris Ignores Hillary's Popular Vote...
'especially if Obama wins the whitehouse' - Has Morris completely ignored the demographics that won't be voting for Obama? Let's stick to the polls that make Morris' case that the GOP is 'finished'. As a proud american, I want the whitehouse to be occupied by a republican who will pick constructionist judges. Most democrats who are winning are CONSERVATIVE and not in the Obama camp of liberal thinking. This means, the CONSERVATIVE senators like Liberman will support conservative judges because while they are 'democrats' their values are 'conservative'. Where is Zell Miller when we need him? Remember him? Those are the democrats who are winning, not the LIBERALS like Obama.

The revolt from the phonebooth continues
If one sets one's house on fire to repair a leaky roof... One should expect to sleep in a field.

The first night sleeping under the stars might sound romantic and exciting. Loud complaints following the first night of "not sleeping" during the inevitable storm will be ignored.

Who is a RINO? Humm... interesting question. Is a RINO a person who has liberal leanings and often breaks with the party line, or a person who has conservative leanings who often breaks with the party line?

The GOP has not traditionally been the "Conservative" Party on all issues. More often than not throughout its history since the 1850's it has stood for what would be considered very liberal ideals. Abolition, Reconstruction, Black Sufferage, Equal Protection, Anti-trust law, separation from the gold standard, women's sufferage, income tax..., desegregatopm.... come to mind.

Sounds to me like the pot is calling the kettle black.

There is a lesson for those who denounce others as being impure... remember that the judgement on whether or not ducks foul the pond depends on whether one is a fish or a duck. Both still depend on it for their lives.

If the GOP doesn't win, the Democrats will. It is unlikely that with their newly recovered power that the Dems will suffer a repeat of 1994.

I suppose Y'all will just have to get used to sleeping in the mud.

Peace, Love, and Bobby Sherman - TMF

All those new Repubs?
Yes indeed, all those new Hispanics were supposed to turn Republican. What a crock. These jokes deserve to get trashed. Thing is, this is the beginning of a decades long shift. They've brainwashed the younger generations . . .

Who Cares
Here's the problem. I used to care if the Repubs lost ground but now I find myself asking if the loser is a conservative or a liberal. I could care less if the Sen Stevens of the world lose. He deserves to lose. He acts like a liberal and that's all I see or care. From now on tell me if they're a con or a lib? Maybe then I'll care.

Morris is right then?
If I am reading most of these posts correctly, Dick Morris is probably right, the GOP is "toast" in November.

Jake (Reply #42) echoed the premise of my original question, will Republicans and more importantly conservatives reform and regroup, should we suffer a resounding case of getting our butts kicked? Only, if we have someone who brings with them, a leadership quality in which we can believe.

In the meantime, it looks like we have cast our bets and we are putting our money on the GOP to lose. I suspect it is a "gamble" we will regret and a debt we will pay for, for much longer than we expected.

Bush went left???
Uh, I don't think so. We don't want him either. He is near universally despised by liberals, only somewhat less by independents. What I meant was that, with a few exceptions, like the completely admirable Sen. Hagel from Nebraska, Republican politicians, the talk radio crowd, the right-wing think tanks, all the visible manifestations of conservative thought have stood by this guy, even making up ridiculous excuses for him, no matter what ineptness he shows. Look what has happened to this country's finances under Bush! Where's the conservative outrage? And that's just one issue of many.

From a registered Republican
Every time McCain says something that makes me think that maybe he might be worth going to vote for he says something else that makes me realize how clueless he is. The Republicans are in a race with the Democrats as to who can bloat the government faster, and I don't see any slowdown to it regardless of who is elected. Ann Coulter is right: its crazy but Hillary is probably the most conservative of the three candidates.

JeffreyRO5
I don't understand your question. No one here is following Bush anywhere. We voted him in, but once in, he changed his spots and took off left, with more than half his own party furious. Why are GOP pols getting axed routinely? Because they have abandoned the principles of the people that voted them in. If Obama gets elected, i predict the very people who voted him in will be his worst enemies by 2010.

WestTexan
Start saying Congressman Rick Noriega over and over it won't hurt so much on election night.

it is over. Heck Coryn or whatever his name is just attacked veterans today....geesh

Republicans need to look no further then
the mirror. Whatever good that came out of the 94 congressional win by the GOP, they have lost because of arrogrance and weakness.
The Republican leadership-or what there is of it-is dysfunctional or lacks leadership.
It certainly doesn't help when your nominee, John McCain, is only slightly less liberal than the other side opponent.

The best thing that can happen to the GOP is a complete and utter rout in Nov. Maybe, then a true conservative party can materialize.

Politicians
are so intertwined in their world and wrapped around each other and special interests ankles to stand up with any guts for the American people.

Dan
You're right. Just as with LBJ and his ilk, if the Dems get full control, they'll screw this country up so badly that it will never be the same. Can you say 30 million new low income voters/social service syphons?

Remember the damage Lyndon did. Other than the obvious, I believe that he merged the social security fund into the general fund so that the crooks had access to it.

Bend over everyone, this is going to hurt.

for Farmer's Wife
Farmer's Wife asks: "How does one prepare for the onslaught on personal liberty that is about to be upon us?"

That's easy.

It's now clear that Obama is repeating the same mindset and policies of Jimmy Carter.

So all we have to do, is look back at the 1970s under Carter, and see who did well, and who did poorly, back then.

Under Carter's stagflation, commodities and hard assets were the best investments. They soared in value and investors made huge profits. As the Fed was forced to jack up interest rates, money market funds which can pay very high yields did very well too.

Farmers, like your husband, got huge profits for their crops, and they also got more than enough fuel to power their tractors, while truckers and urban dwellers in the cities suffered.

The dollar collapsed, and the bond market collapsed. So anyone who had savings bonds or a passbook savings account was cheated. On the other hand, foreign currencies like Swiss francs were a safe haven.

That should tell you what you should be doing under an Obama administration.

for JeffreyRO5
JeffreyRO5 asks: "So tell me, GOP'ers, why have you all followed GWB off the cliff?"

Because the Christian evangelicals, who were Bush's strongest supporters, led the way. And they have become extremely powerful within the GOP--the way organized labor was 40 years ago within the Dem party.

To the evangelicals ("religious right"), Bush is a GREAT President, and they're STILL quite satisfied with him, even now. All they care about is judicial appointments to stop abortion--and Bush delivered (Roberts, Alito). Bush also delivered on "faith-based" initiatives and defunding NGOs that advocate family planning. So the Christians are happy.

If you take the evangelicals out of the mix, the remaining Republicans are actually fairly dissatisfied with Bush.

The GOP and suicide
The GOP did it to themselves. I've been a conservative since I graduated from TAMU in 1982. As stated earlier, I am a Christian, conservative American. I've voted mostly GOP since the mid-08's when "conservative" Dhimmicraps vaporized.

I cannot get too excited about our GOP "leadership", they sure are leading anywhere, except to slaughter. I plan on voting for John Cornyn, a conservative in the Senate. I'll vote for McInsane, a third party just ensures Demoncats (mostly) are elected.

I'm a liberal progressive
So I'm thrilled, in the short-term, at the impending Democratic victories. But I don't want either party to be overly powerful for any length of time, that's not good for America. I don't want the Dems abusing power any more than I want the Repubs. So tell me, GOP'ers, why have you all followed GWB off the cliff? He has taken your party with him and it may be quite some time, if ever, that you regain your strength and influence. It has been quite a spectacle to observe.

If the Dims win..

The US Loses..big time.

the polls say.. I don't know of anyone who ever took part in an official election poll..

Meanwhile, things can change when you least it. just press on

Thanks, Thanks a Lot GOP...
The GOP got handed carte blanch and for six years squandered it at almost every turn. Back in 2000 I had no idea what a RINO or a neocon were.

How does one prepare for the onslaught on personal liberty that is about to be upon us?

I know that I have no idea. From the high fuel prices to the hoax of global warming and illegal immigration in between. The choices this election are slim to none for the American taxpayer. From Hilliary's I am going to take things away from you to Obama's I am going to tax you into oblivion and let the UN do the same to McCain's love for everything south of the border there is no choice.

Our brave men and women in the military are going to be told the sacrifice was for nothing and we do not value your service.

This land is no longer your land and it is no longer my land and we cannot have the benefit of our own oil and even though we are the most progressive and best protectors of the environment in the world we are going to pay for everyone else.

Bend over America your government is here to help you! All it costs is ever more of your liberty but in exchange we are going fix everything.

The feds have concluded
that there are NO LIMITS to the Federal Government. The Constitution is dead. It doesn't matter who you vote for, the fix is in and We, The People are voting for all the bread-and-circuses that deficit spending will allow.

It's all going to come crashing down, probably sooner than later. One Iranian-supplied nuke in Manhattan, and the whole house of cards will collapse.

Which countries will send US aid? Guess...

Hard Times Ahead
No matter if Democrats or the Rino's win. Niether side is interested in doing the right thing. We will get either liberal or liberal light policies that will eventually break the budget.

Oh bother
After reading the typos and incorrect choice of wording in my last post, I am now removing my keyboard from my computer.

Savage99
I wish I could prophecy the political future, if I thought I could I would probably be named "Dick Morris." I can only form opinions and concerns based on that which we are fed by a not so non-biased media.

As for "Li'l Abner," I though I was the only one who remembered that funny page character.

Dan
Unlike some posters here, who think they have the gift of prophecy, i find the current political zigs and zags confoozin' but amoozin' as Li'l Abner used to saay. However, one of the least possible possibilities i would say is 40 years of either party in continuous power. We are heading for some austere retrenchment. Whichever party is in will try and maybe succeed in blaming the other, but bottom line when times get tough, the ins are thrown out whoever they are. I expect the next 2 or maybe 3 presidents will be 1 termers. Inflation, which hits those with least assets hardest will punish renters, fixed incomes, and welfare recipients harshly. The only half-way solace is that these are the basis of the voters that have continually voted for a free lunch and candidates who have kicked the can down the road since 1932. The last years of low inflation, low interest rates, low unemployment and general affluence are about to come to an end. The starry eyed young things who think these things are inevitable, and now its time for a knight riding an ebony steed to fix everything else are due for a rude comeuppance. Maybe they will handle it, maybe not.

Robert
Someday you should actually put the whole picture in play, not a little piece. Check the figures for the DSCC (Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee), the DHCC (House) and then compare that to the GOP. The DSCC had $32.8 million on hand at the end of March, the NRSC had $15.3 million. The DCCC reported $38.1 million on hand, and the RCCC reported $5.1 million. The WSJ also reported that the 12 most vulnerable freshman House Democrats are well ahead in fundraising of their republican opponents. Then, compare McCain's money to Obama's, and then look at the individual campaigns as well. McCain is taking public money and folding his organization into the Republican National Committe because he doesn't have anything remotely like the clout Obama has - and has put together a strategy of trying to manipulate the media to get his message out since he can't pay for anything close to what Obama's media budget will be. In race after race, the Democrats are far in front. And, what Morris didn't tell you, is that Musgrove now leads Wicker by 8 points in Mississippi in the last poll. And, of course, it was Wickers seat the dems just won. Musgrove a former Democratic governor is not black, by the way, and is not some flaming liberal. Wicker, of course, was a Congressman. And for what it's worth, 34% of the registered voters are black. Obama is still my bet to lose, but in Mississippi, he'll get those blacks out - meaning Musgrove won't need a whole lot whites to win it.

GOP.
It is hard for me, and I'm sure for most people, to feel sorry for a party that shot itself in the brain.

Savage99
I respect your position, I too am not sure what I am going to do in November. The "gamble" will be whether or not "we" conservatives and Republicans can get it together enough in future elections to ever become the majority again.

Another 40 years of a Democrat majority in Congress is too scary to contemplate.

Stick a Fork in the GOP!
They have lost there way.

Dan
I don't consider my vote a gamble. I don't want either McCain or Obama to get elected, so i will vote for neither. I don't know which will be worse, so i can't even try to vote for the lesser of two evils. If there is someone else on the ballot, i will choose between them. If not i will write some one in. No tactics, no gamble, just making a choice.

President McCain,

Just a reminder... The Pearly Gates are always on the Right. And if you so choose, the Lake of Fire is to your Left.

Please watch your step!

9/12Repub
Your (4:42pm) post makes alot of sense to me.

I do appreciate and even admire some of the very staunch views I see here among those who are apparently more conservative than everyone else (because looking back to the primaries, no one was a "real' conservative, and no one was conservative enough.)
I understand (but do not buy) the notion that having elected Obama, the republican party will become uber conservative (and elected to office).

I think these same people will be here whining (like they probably were about Reagan before he died)
Like I said, I can respect the principles.
But to throw a vote to ... Obama? I think the damage he could do would be hard to fix.
Can't do that to our military.
I care more about America than about the Respublican party.

A dangerous gamble
Many are of the mind that a heavy loss by the GOP will be both a wake-up call for Republicans and that the Democrats will mess things up so badly, that conservative Republicans can sweep back to a majority in 2010 and 2012.

Should the Dems achieve solid majority status, they will be in a position both legislatively and through media propaganda to ensure that Republicans achieve nothing and that they get the blame for everything.

For all those who want to "punish" Republicans for their rightly deserved criticism of failing to lead or leading like Democrats, consider your options carefully, the face that is spited may be your own.

The good news is that Dick Morris' credibility anymore is about as deep in the mud as his former boss's wife.

Not so sure about that...

"This is not a good year to be a Republican."

Actually, this is a great time to be a Republican (conservative). It's a time to teach young commies, show them the eternal light. It's a time to point out all that's flawed with liberalism. A time to embrace fellow Conservatives, and know that we will re-ignite that candle of Freedom. The candle snuffed by liberal ignorance and want.

"RINOs", is that really the problem?

The consensus on this thread seems to be that RINOs (meaning, not conservative enough for your particular tastes) are losers, and deservingly so. And you all may be right. But I'm not entirely convinced.

What makes someone a "RINO" appears to be mean something different to each poster. To my in-state buddy, Virginia Patriot, it all comes down to immigration. Others care mostly about preserving marriage and the sanctity of life. Still others are justifiably concerned about infringements on Second Amendment rights. Cross even one of these lines, and you are condemned as a RINO.

My point is that when you create such a wide-ranging litmus test for who you are willing to support (i.e., satisfy each and all of a, b, c, ...), what you end up with as as your "conservative" candidate is an unthinking robot. My personal example: Jim Gilmore.

Now he's certainly no RINO. Just pull his string and he'll spout the conservative party line on whatever issue you ask.

But the problem is that this non-RINO is an ineffective idiot. I personally tend to agree with most all of the "conservative" positions outlined above. But there's no way I will lower my standards to vote for Jim Gilmore over Mark Warner. Warner is far from perfect, but at least he's capable of thinking for himself. Most Virginians apparently agree.

Perhaps RINOs are the real problem. But I'm not convinced. I think the real problem resides with unrealistic "conservative" expectations.

RHINO's All !!!
Teaparty hit the nail on the head when it was stated all of the Republicans in danger of losing their seats are RINO's. I am sick of Rino's including my own U. S. Senator from Missouri Kit Bond, who has never failed to support the Pro Amnesty bunch and voted against curtailing Pork barrel spending. My main sadness is that he is not up for reelection this year so I could vote against him.
Right On whoever said that the legacy of George W. Bush with the able assistance of his father, Arlen Specter, John McCain and too many Rino's to name will be the snuffing out the last breath of the Republican Party on election day.
George Bush and John McCain should be the Cover Boys of Mad magazine. " WHO ME WORRY " ???

Not Right Often, But He's Right Now
Morris is very often mistaken in his predictions, but on the future of the GOP he is right on. 2008 will be a blood bath of historical proportions. However, in the long run it is probably a good thing. The GOP needs to be purged! The only way to clean-up this poor imitation of a traditional conservative party is to have a thorough house cleaning. Hopefully those right wing "so-called Christians" who only focus on abortion, immigration and homophobia will also be recognized for their lack of power and influence. We can probably survive four years of Obama and his radical leftist philosophies. But, we must begin rebuilding this party immediately after it is cleansed in 2008. Just think no more Graham's, Lott's, Stevens', Lewis', Snow's, McConnel's, etc., etc. Say goodbye to the wimps, RINOS and moderates.

Excellent, Smithers!
Good. The GOP deserves to go belly-up. Once they start acting, not just talking but voting, like conservatives, then they will see a resurgence of support. Until then, they can swing slowly.

The People are the CEO not the Elected
If ever there was a time to begin the real push for term limits now is THE TIME! NO MORE CAREER POLITICIANS! This country began with an elected group that voluntarily served. Obviously times have changed and I don't have a problem providing a salary but it is obvious that they have created their own kingdom and no longer feel they serve us but that we serve them. How can we expect them to make good solid decisions when they live outside the confines of the American people. Let them operate on a 401k system where we contribute a small amount toward their retirement while in service but the rest is up to them not us. Let them be members of a PPO or HMO and contribute to their own healthcare. Can you imagine what a savings this would be to the American people. Also, we need them to have report cards and if they want a raise they need to go back to their state and let the people of that state vote on whether they get one or not. We need to eliminate the rampid absenteeism, and we need to require that they vote, there should be no abstaining.

As far as immigration, enforce our laws! they chose to come here, they chose to break up their families....DO NOT PUT THIS ON THE AMERICAN'S BACKS.

Personal responsibility is the back bone of this country and they continue to try and erode this basic truth and that is the biggest problem that we are experiencing in this country.

We also need to change how work is done, single issues need to be voted on based on their own merits. I am tired of back room deals .....this does not come from leadership but weakness!

As far as campaign finance reform.....no candidate shall receive money except from an individual .....the elected work for the people not groups!

GOP Senate Massacre of '08
If and when it happens, the massacre will have been well-deserved for the Republican Party. But they will doubtless conclude that the loss was because they just weren't liberal enough, in 2006 redux. A McCain win will only cement this notion to an even more dangerous degree.

Karma.

Detroit
That's what you get with total control by Dems. Another? California. That's what you get with total control by Dems. Louisiana (before Bobby) - another shinning star. I am going out on a limb to suggest that I have merely touched the tip of the iceberg with those.

The voting public will always be a mystery but at the end of the day they get what they deserve.

Play the hand you're dealt ...
Conservatives always face an uphill battle. Conservatives promote smaller government. Government employees rarely promote smaller government since it is contrary to their interests. Unfortunately, all politicians are government employees.
Still, I can't wait to vote for McCain and Bob Schaffer here in Colorado. I will admit that I may be "voting for a Republican just because he isn't a Democrat", but that is good enough for me if we have a chance to replace a Stevens or Ginsburg with a Roberts or Alito. It is good enough for me to support the troops by ensuring they never have to salute Obama as their Commander-in-Chief.

Democratic Congress
Actually, I might consider voting Democrat this time. I am tired of working. Why should I continue to work when I can sit back and collect benefits from all of the entitlement programs that the Democrats have created. I might even hire a lawyer. The way the Democrats, with lots of contributions from the trial lawyers, have changed our legal system I am sure that I have a case against somebody.

George Bush Legacy
George Bush has been working on building his legacy; that just might be the extinction of the Republican Party.

Did I miss something?
Aren't the GOP Senators he listed all RINO'S?
So what will change if a DemonRat gets their seats?
We can send them all the messages we can, but they are so deaf to us and blind to our anger,
they will dive into their bunkers and try and figure out, if they are good little boys and girls, roll over faster than they have the past 8 years, and really piddle on themselves, their
masters in the DemonRat party will forgive them, give them a pat on the head and let them jump in the bed with the.

Get Proactive
THe GOP needs to get the jump on the Democrats. Don't wait for their sweeping changes. Don't wait for the walking skeleton McLame to set a platform.

There need to be sweeping changes made in this nation and the GOP can take the lead:

1. Call for a full investigation of the American oil monopoly (if the GOP doesn't, they will get their butts kicked in November). Ask why, when Saudi Aramco is lowering their prices because of reduced demand (per Bloomberg, this has happened for three consecutive months) the pump price keeps going up. There is only one reason: EXXONMOBIL has a stake in the speculation market and they are propping up these billionaires who are buying low and selling high)

2. Start a manhattan project to develop an electric car. Pay for it by a windfall profits tax on the oil monopoly. This threat alone will bring down the price at the pump.

3. Restore competition to healthcare and healthcare insurance by making all pricing visible.

4. End corn subsidies.

5. Reveal to the public the real cost of the war in Iraq. It costs this nation X billion per week to sustain the military, whether it is in Iraq or Florida. Democrats call this the cost of the Iraq war. What we really need to hear is what are the incremental costs.

6. STop earmarks and stop the farm bill. Promise a balanced budget amendment if their majorities are restored.

7. Eliminate the IRS and the Form 1040.

8. End once and for all the constant attempts to institute amnesty. The dems want us to use less toilet paper, so that they can add 30 million new Americans that will put heavy price pressures in all areas of the Cost of Living Index.

These are all that I could think of on the spur of the moment, but I am sure there are other items that could help return sanity to Washington DC, home of the Lawyer Nation.

What are we?
I am a Republican, but I am a Conservative FIRST, Republican second. Until the Republican party returns to Conservative roots the party is doomed to failure.

I am torn in November, do I vote against Obama or do I write in a name. I have been pushing locally to get others to write in the name of Ronald Reagan in November. Writing in Reagan's name sends a message to the Republican leadership, that we want a Reagan Conservative.

Writing in any other name, Romney, Thompson, Paul etc will just be seen by the Republican leadership as people holding a grudge. However, to watch John McCain lose by 10 or 15% and to see that Reagan took 10% of the vote, that will send a clear message.

Although, as power hungry as the Republicans have been lately, I bet they wont even care.

Morris is such an elite,
that he still doesn't get it.

what's there to vote for?
The RNC had better wake up, I really don't feel al that compelled to vote at all this time around. There really isn't any reason to for a republican, other than he ain't a democrat. And that ain't a good enough reason to vote for any of them. May be that's why these clowns have low polling numbers.

Don't Forget, Dick Sucks Toes
The Republican Party under GWB seems intent on political suicide. Pandering to citizens of other countries illegally in our country while telling us we must be vigilantes if we object to illegal aliens ignoring our borders and laws. Mel Martinez was RNC Chairman to ensure an open borders candidate in '08. The cheap labor express will be kept running, regardless of the consequences, to party or country. GOP-RIP

Forgot to mention Lindsay Grahamnesty, I predict he will not be back, remains to be seen if that seat goes Dem or the GOP wises up and starts representing American citizens instead of pandering to citizens of other countries illegally in our country. GOP-RIP
