Poll
Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

The USA Today/Gallup Poll of late March suggests a strategy for Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) in the general election. The poll compared Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) and McCain on certain key variables. Here were the results:

Obama won:

• Cares about the needs of people like you, 66% to 54%
• Shares your values, 51% to 46%
• Understands the problems Americans face in their daily lives, 67% to 55%

McCain won:

• Is a strong, decisive leader, 56% to 69%
• Is honest and trustworthy, 63% to 67%
• Can manage the government efficiently, 48% to 60%

Neither won:

• Has a clear plan for solving the country’s problems, 41% to 42%
• Has a clear vision for the country’s future, 67% to 65%
• Would work well with both parties in Washington to get things done, 62% to 61%
• Is someone you would be proud to have as president, 57% to 55%

So Obama won the traditional Democratic (and female) virtues of understanding problems and caring about people. McCain won the usual Republican (and male) virtues of strong leadership and efficient management.

In an age of terrorism, weakness is a capital crime. McCain ne eds to base his campaign on establishing Obama’s weakness and his own strong leadership by comparison.

It is in this context that we must analyze Obama’s problems with the Rev. Wright and his emerging problems with former terrorist Bill Ayers. The American people are not about to judge Obama guilty by association, even with a lowlife type like Ayers and an anti-American like Wright. But they will see, in Obama’s tentativeness in handling these controversies and his “decency” in refusing to cut off his relationships and condemn these men, a sign of weakness that will hurt his campaign.

There is in Obama something of the Democratic candidate for president in the 1950s, Adlai Stevenson. Both from Illinois, they share an eloquence that lifts them above normal political figures and a profundity of thought that lies behind it. But each was seen as weak, and Stevenson as indecisive. Obama’s over-intellectualization of issues and of the problems that crop up in his campaign will increasingly harden into a perception of a lack of sufficient strength to deal with America’s problems.

The right wing tried to attack John Kerry in 2004 for a lack of patriotism and commitment to American values, just as it is now doing to Obama. It likely fell short of its goal. But the pressure it brought to bear on Kerry, through the Swift Boat ad and other attacks, led people to conclude that Kerry flip-flopped on issues and led them to discount what he said during his campaign.

Similarly, Americans will not buy that Obama is un-American. But the pressure the right brings to bear on him will cause him to appear weak in the face of attacks.

McCain needs to hammer away at the issue of strength and leadership and deal decisively with the problems that crop up in the campaign, while Obama dithers, thinks things through and tries to parse hairs in his responses.

Here the Iraq issue op ens a real opportunity for McCain, where otherwise his support for the war would be a real negative. Iraq is a lot like Social Security. Everyone knows there is a problem, but any solution is immediately shot down. The issue earned the label “the third rail” in our politics, a status that was underscored when Bush’s momentum from his 2004 reelection was smashed against the rocks of Democratic and elderly opposition to his Social Security reform plan.

So it is with Iraq: He who proposes an alternative is doomed. McCain’s position, that we have to stay until we win, is far from popular, but it’s a lot better than unilateral and immediate withdrawal.

And Obama’s opposition to the war begs a host of questions: Shall we retain any presence? What about al Qaeda? What happens if the government falls? Can we let Iran take over? Obama will dither and seem far from decisive as he answers each of these questions. They will make him loo k terrible, just as Kerry — in opposing the war after voting for it — looked like a flip-flopper.

McCain can use the predisposition of voters to see Obama as weak, coupled with the Iraq issue, to make the strength issue his key advantage.

Obama Won?
Obama won:

Except if you are a Typical White Person

Sorry, but Obama surely doesn't speak to me or cater to my needs. As far as he is concerned, I am part of the problem and I deserve the slings and arrows of hatred due to the color of my skin.

I never owned a slave, I never recited derrogatory language about a person's race, I am not a racist, and nor do I fear other races. However, per Obama's mind, it's understandable why I'm hated due to the color of my skin.

But what do I know? I'm just a Typical White Person.

McCain's Only Chance
This issue is about the only one where McCain and conservatives are in full agreement. Whether or not it will be enough to get people that say they will never vote for McCain to change their minds is the question that cannot be answered at this time.

I believe McCain can score points against Obama by pressing this issue and forcing Obama to give actual policy positions on Iraq other than platitudes of immediate withdrawal. Ironically Obama's responses on this issue will most likely provide the impetus for people to hold their noses and vote for McCain.

I agree wholeheartedly with Thomas Sowell when he says: "Senator John McCain could never convince me to vote for him. Only Hillary Clinton or Barack Obama can cause me to vote for McCain."

Don't confuse Obama's weakness
When will the Conservatives get it. Obama is a liberal. OK! Let's go over it again for those Conservatives who refuse who understand why Obama's base hasn't abandoned Obama because of their attacks. You are Conservatives attacking their nominee. How much weight do you Conservatives words carry with the liberals. None at all. So who in the world were you geniuses think were paying attention to your attacks on Obama. The Conservatives? Why should the Democrats care one little bit about how the Conservatives feel about the attacks on Obama. The Conservatives thought they were exposing Obama weakness for not disowning Reverend Wright or repeating speeches they thought Obama should make. They only exposed Obama as having strength for not bowing to the Conservatives Inquisition and playing by the rules of the court. The Conservatives are against Obama, the liberals are for. The Conservatives are for Hillary, the liberals are against. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to see that one. Then again, the Conservatives are not rocket scientist, just geniuses.

With all due respect
what John McCain needs to do is ignore the "finger in the air" advice of political opportunists like Dick Morris and run his own damn campaign.

shells
hows things going. Have you ever checked jackpines blog site. He has set up a chatline for conservs. If you get the chance check it out. You would be most welcome

maverick
I think that Conservatives 'get' that Obama is a racist, anti-American socialist. He consorts with known domestic terrorists and others who are racist America-haters. His wife is a serial whiner with a huge chip on her shoulder and a grievance against the entire country. It takes neither a rocket scientist nor a genius to ascertain that these people should never be allowed near the White House, it is, after all, the wrong color. A 'typical white person' can figure this out.

So Dick sez
Okay, I'll bite...weakness is weakness.
(and that is what terroists see too)

But Morris's weakness is Hillary Rodham Clinton.
He so despises her he overlooks the bigger picture. I'm sure Hillary will be happy to know she blinded someone, even if it wasn't by love.

dems have a race Dick
McCain is trying to keep his powder dry. Obama wants to assert himself the nominee by attacking McCain. But McCain can allow him to take all the line and duke it out with Hill right now. Which is what is bothering Obama to no end. He resents Hillary almost as much as Dick, just for that reason.

love hate
Democrats appear so in love with Obama, they cannot see the likely scenario forming. No doubt the stories are being formulated how BO takes over the Democrat party, reforms it, unifies everyone, and brought it back from the darkages away from the cliff. And egos will be following on those heels.

Why Not?
"The American people are not about to judge Obama guilty by association, even with a lowlife type like Ayers and an anti-American like Wright."

Why not? If I joined the KKK or Nazi Party should people not judge me by my associations? Why shouldn't we be able to judge the man by the company he freely chooses to keep?

Voting
Why do I almost never vote for blacks? The answer is easy. They are primarily liberal on most issues, which is diametrically in opposition to my views.

Adlai
He lost in 52 and 56. He wanted to run in 60. The Kennedy brothers made sure everyone knew that this guy could not win.

He was an intellectual not an empty suit, but he had no clue on how to be a President.

They felt he was like one of the old Harvard Profs smoking a pipe and telling everyone about utopia.

BO is a younger version. One thing about those older guys though, they did not flip flop. When they said how they felt on an issue that was it, none of the bs we hear today, if I had all the facts I would have baloney.

McCain
McCain has alienated conservatives as well as some Democrats for his stand on open borders and his amnesty stance. We have over 30 million illegal aliens in this country that taxpayers are supporting to approx 338 billion dollars a year (when we are in deficit and have a recession) because greedy, corrupt politicians want their fraudulent votes and campaign dollars from big business - McCain says he has "heard" that the population wants our borders closed, but like me, I wonder how many people trust that? We have Senators (il.e. Washington State) that will vote every time in favor of an illegal rather than the citizen - that is partly whats wrong with McCain - his age doesn't help either.

What Obama says part 1
America is the greatest nation in the world. I need your help to change that.

We are in a recession. People need jobs/money/food/ energy.
His solution: Raise taxes and give an extra 845 BILLION DOLLARS to the UN to waste.

We are in a recession. Unemployment is higher than it’s been in years.
His solution: Amnesty for 20 million illegal alien lawbreakers (some robbers, rapists, and murderers), so they can hold jobs needed by Americans Citizens.
.
Gasoline costs $3.50 per gallon. It’s actually $3.89 per gallon: You get 9/10 gallon for $3.50.
His solutions: A new tax on the oil companies which will be passed on to us-the-people-who-pay-all-taxes, thereby increasing the price to $4.50 per gallon. At the same time he mandated higher-gas-mileage cars, he mandated gasoline diluted with alcohol which gets less gas mileage. Gasoline explodes to deliver energy; alcohol burns. You will get only 9/10 of a gallon of gasoline for $4.50, so the real price will be $5.00 per gallon under Obama.

Nothing has changed since the 1970’s
Taxes have greatly increased in number and in rates. Carter capped many domestic wells with the tax that Obama now wants to impose on the oil companies.

Oil companies have high profits.
The cost of gasoline:
Federal pump tax: 18.4 cents per gallon
PA state pump tax: 32 cents per gallon
All federal, state, county, municipal, and school TAXES of all other kinds = 1/3 of the price.
Speculators’ add-0ns: Most of the rest of the price
Foreign nations’ prices: Much of the rest of the price
Oil-tanker ship charges and oil-spill insurance
The cost of the alcohol used to dilute the gasoline

What Obama says part 2
The oil companies’ cost to process oil into gasoline = less than 25 cents per gallon.
The oil companies’ profit: 10 CENTS PER GALLON (2.9%). The oil companies get the large majority of their profit from outside the country, not from the American People.

Barack is accusing the oil companies of price-gouging. BARACK REPRESENTS ALL TAXATION, WHICH IS A FULL THREE-SEVENTHS (43%) OF THE TOTAL PRICE.

The price could be greatly reduced by hiring the oil companies to drill, pump, refine, and deliver OUR offshore oil to us. There would be no speculators’ add-ons, no foreign nations’ price, no oil-tanker charges and oil spills. No dilution-with-alcohol cost would give us a full gallon of gasoline.
Repealing all the hundreds or thousands of taxes, and replacing them with ONE TAX AND DONE for each level of government, would alone reduce the price of gas by three-sevenths (43%).

He stands in front of a factory closed for decades and says the company moved out of the country. He doesn’t mention that it was taxed out of business by a Democrat-controlled Congress.

Barack wants to disarm all loyal, law-abiding Americans to put them at the tender mercies of the 20 million illegal alien lawbreakers (some robbers, rapists, and murderers), and his Muslim buddies who like to behead innocent victims.

Obama’s pastor Wright was a Muslim. Wright says that he is now a Christian. Radical Muslims don’t allow anyone to leave Islam and live. The Koran says that Muslims may lie under oath to non-Muslims. Wright is alive and well and hateful: Nothing happened to him. Conclusion: Wright and Obama are both radical Muslims.

Ignorance
I am frightened at all of the ignorance displayed on this site. It shows me the REAL America and just how people really think.

There is NOTHING anyone can say or do to ENLIGHTEN such ignorance.

I pity all of you because you harbor such EVIL, cruel and hate filled spirits.

Ron spoke of Mr. Obama and his pastor being Muslims. Would you say the same thing about America's Pastor, Billy Graham who spoke hate filled comments about the jewish population?

Did you di-own him because he expressed his true feelings about being Anti-Semitic?

Now that you have been educated about being a typical STUPID person, may I suggest that you go and EDDUCATE yourself so you won't be so STUPID in the future!

Ignorance can be cured with EDUCATION...
There is no cure for being STUPID!

Dick, You are a sad case for a man. Why don't you go back under that rock from wince you came and take your buddies, The Clampets (Clintons) with you.

You're so wrong, Sir. You bury your head in the sand, and very likely so you can feel good about yourself for being inclusive or multicultural or thinking the rest of us "Islamaphobes" or "racists." I've lived and worked in Islamabad, Cairo, Kuwait City, and Doha, among other more tolerant and accepting places. You are simply unaware of the realities of this world, and being ignorant and unaware doesn't mean dangers don't exist. They do...big time.
