Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

The Republican Party would be self-destructive (not for the first time, either) if they did not let the immigration compromise negotiated by Sens. Saxby Chambliss (R-Ga.) and Edward Kennedy (D-Mass.) pass and become law. The hopes of the entire Latino community are pinned to immigration reform and, if the GOP is seen as blocking it, the consequences for the indefinite future will be horrific.

The Republican Party will lose Hispanics as surely as they lost blacks when Barry Goldwater ran in 1964 against the civil rights bill (even though a higher percentage of Republicans than Democrats backed the bill in each house).

If the Hispanics are not massively turned off by a Republican rejection of immigration reform, they will drift into an increasingly pro-Republican orientation just as Irish and Italian Catholics did before them. Already Protestant evangelicalism has converted a third of the American Latino population, a clear precursor of GOP political support.

Hispanics now account for 13 percent of the U.S. population (blacks are 12 percent) and will constitute 20 percent of our population by 2020 regardless of whether immigration reform passes or not. Key red states like Texas and Florida hang in the balance, depending on the voting intention of their burgeoning Latino populations.

The reform compromise proposed in the Senate postpones, in my opinion wrongly, granting citizenship and voting rights to immigrants now in the U.S. for at least a decade. While they get legal status immediately on payment of a $5,000 fine, they must return to their country of origin and wait their turn in line for a valid green card to return legally. Only then can they become citizens. Given the seven- to eight-year wait for green cards, they would not be a potent political force until well into the next decade.

In the meantime, the GOP base should note that the bill commits the Democrats to the border fence and a major increase in border guards. It also will require tamper-proof identification cards, a key element in blocking further illegal immigration.

But the political stakes are largely in the symbolism of the bill. Whichever party is seen as supporting reform will gain a huge vote share among Hispanics, and the opponents will lose accordingly.

Had the Republicans gotten it together to pass such a bill while they ran Congress, they would have gotten unambiguous credit for the achievement. This history would have made it possible to switch Latinos into Republican voters. Surely, two-thirds of Latinos would not have voted Democrat as they did, in their disappointment with the lack of a bill, in 2006.

In fact, the Republican Party could well have held onto the Senate with a few Latino switches in key states like Georgia and Missouri.

Now the GOP will have to share credit with the Democrats, but the signature on the bill will still read "George W. Bush," a fact that Latinos are not going to forget.

But if the Republicans kill the bill, driven by their own irreconcilable base, they will leave it to the next president — very probably a Democrat — and two Democratic houses of Congress to pass the liberating legislation. The GOP will have delivered the largest minority group in America right into the hands of its adversaries.

The compromise requires English skills, payment of a fine, and a good work history for an illegal immigrant to get citizenship. It also requires that he "touch back" in Mexico and wait his turn. The bill also puts border enforcement before the granting of rights.

Democrats want Hispanics to vote but don't want them to work and compete with their labor union allies for jobs.

Republicans want them to work (since the employers are mostly Republican) but don't want them to vote.

This bill, unfortunately, allows current illegal immigrants to work immediately but defers giving them the franchise for almost a decade. It's a bill a Republican should love.

Illegal Aliens
Morris: What in the world have you been smoking? Both political parties, led by the President and the Democrats, are leading this nation down the path to "third world status" and national suicide. Soon, there will be no United States of America, as we have known it! I think you must have taken a "dumb" pill when you got out of bed this morning.

Toe Sucker
Why does anyone listen to this reprobate? Many of us are concerned about illegal aliens and border security, Mr. Morris has already told us he's in favor of amnesty and open borders. He makes his money off the cheap labor express like many inside the beltway. He has sold his soul and wants to entice the rest of us to do likewise. He has a low opinion of Latinos since he argues that the only way to win their votes is to abandon the rule of law. Does he really think hispanics are all in favor of lawlessness? I know that is not true. Hispanic citizens are as much against illegal aliens and their corrupt employers as we are. It is we the people who bear the burden of the true costs, financial and human, of this misguided sell out of our nation by elites whose concerns are not the same as ours. Theirs are profit and power, ours are security and sovereignty.

Not as long as Bush is President*
We should not undertake any immigration reform until after another Presidential election. This President has shown his loyalties are not to American citizens on this issue. Personally, I believe we need Comprehensive Immigration Enforcement, not reform. We have the laws, what we don't have is any enforcement. Without enforcement, laws are meaningless.

This new package will be no different than 1986. The borders could have and should have been secured September 12, 2001. But that would have disrupted the cheap labor express and the RNC could not disappoint its contributors. So the problem has doubled as enforcement went from inadequate under Clinton to nonexistent under Bush. Now they will try to jam another amnesty down our throats. The question remains, will we let them?

*(update)We should not undertake any immigration reform until Ted Kennedy is gone. He is largely responsible for the 1965 legislation that led to the 1986 amnesty that led to this years amnesty. Before 1965 we allowed approx. 250,000 people in legally each year. He told us we would not have a million each year, we do. Legally. We also have a million a year coming in illegally which was supposed to have been fixed by the one time only amnesty of 1986. Author: Ted Kennedy. Ted Kennedy has inserted provisions into this bill which would make it impossible to deport anyone, even those who already have deportation orders. He has fixed it so we will get to pay for the lawyers for the illegals to contest their cases. As far as any enforcement goes we are just supoosed to believe them that this time they really, really mean it.

Yeah, right.

Morris/Immigration
Again even Dick Morris is looking for expediency.
I am not worried about myself any more but what this country will be when my grandchildren are my age. Congress is willing to pass anything - without reading it, checking the cost to the rest of us, or how it affects our daily lives. They have no concept what the real world is about. On this issue, Dick Morris is no different. Earth to Dick: We do not want credit for this boondoogle of a bill.

Linda
St. Helens, OR

Out of touch
While Dick often makes good points, I think he is not reading the pulse of the people. Many Democrats are also strongly opposed to this bill. Any legalization of these masses will depress wages and displace current businesses by new immigrant owned and operated businesses. Wake up and connect the dots. Once made legal, illegal aliens will demand higher wages, will gravitate to higher paying jobs or to businesses no longer afraid to hire them and the irony of it all will be that they will start their own business and put their current employer out of business. Why would they want to work for those that have exploited them. All of you that have approved of hiring the aliens with or without their false documents will soon be out of business. This bill is a big negative. As the bill is reviewed, the cost is astronomical, the leadership sends the welcome mat to future illegal masses. It legalizes all aliens within 24 hours including those who are not working, those who have infectious diseases, those who are gang members and felons, and those who continue to have anchor babies. Any sane American or sincere policy maker would never validate the unknown millions who will step up for their free pass. Dick is wrong on this one. The winning card for the Republicans is to secure the borders. Border security should be a given and not tied with immigration or any other bribe or compromise. Attrition through enforcement and reversal of anchor baby citizenship will slowly reverse the chaos. And, oh yes, make sure the anchor baby stays with the parent when they are returned to their homeland. We want to be sure to keep these families together.

Latinos aren't going to vote Republican
period.

I Realized tonight that the
establishment Republicans WANT the 10-15 hard Right to desert the party. Sure, they'll lose elections for 8-12 years without us but then they can reconstitute the party along the lines of the British Tories.

That should have been
10-15%

Will someone please explain this to me?
In fact, the Republican Party could well have held onto the Senate with a few Latino switches in key states like Georgia and Missouri.

Georgia has two Republican Senators, neither of whom was up for re-election last year.

It seems Dick Morris is
more concerned about the party than he is the nations sovereignty.

Wrong! Wrong!! Wrong!!!

Dick has demonstrated quite clearly here that while he understands the mind of the Democrat politician and the mind of the Republican politician, he has NO IDEA about the incredible FRUSTRATION and even ANGER of the American people.

I know that there are a few liberals who are Pro-Illegal Immigration (that's an oxymoron if I have ever written one), but most of my liberal friends HATE the invasion. They understand that you can not import 100 million uneducated poor in a ten year span without suffering serious national consequences...crime...infrastructure...health care...education??

Anyway, Dick is trying to spin just like the rest of the MSM and the politicians...they are trying to tell us that we are not as mad as we really are. (What has he been smoking?????? There have been about 24,000 negative posts on Townhall in the past three days!!! Oh, that's right, I forgot...he's part of that "elite" group of politicians.

Arrgghhh!!

At best,
this compromise could sway ten more percent of the Latino vote to the Republican side, as it was reported to in 2006.

At best.

To win this 10 percent of 13 percent of the population, the Republican party may very well alienate 10 percent of 70 percent of the population.

You don't need to be a mathematician to figure that out.

Dick, go back to chasing hookers around. There's enough neocon hustlers with Medved and Chavez on Townhall.

It is conceivable that many
Hispanics that are already here might support future Republicans, but the massive hordes that will inundate this country will assuredly vote Democratic. The country will shift all the way into the unconstitutional abyss into which it is already hanging. If you had spent as much time in 3rd world countries as I have, you would know why they look as they do, and since they are, after a fashion, democracies, they will never escape. Visit Mexico, for instance. You will find a country that by any rational standard should be as rich as the US. But it isn't and it never will be. Or try Argentina. There is one town on the Pampas that is almost pure Welsh. About 1900, when they immigrated in mass, the choice between the US and Argentina was a toss-up. Now Argentin looks good only in comparison to, say, Bolivia. Yeah, let all those guys in. I'm visiting Australia for several months this summer, and spending s lot of money to do so. The hurdles for a tourist are taller than for immigrants into this country.

While quite important to Dick Morris,
and his fellow pundits, I think most Town Hall Americans really don't give a c**p about the future political implications of this abortion of a bill.

What we do care about is the future of this country....not the future of the politicians.

A couple of points:
1. Sometimes a person does things simply because they are right, and sometimes you oppose things simply because they are WRONG!

I don't CARE if the Hispanic immigrants in this country turn toward the Dems, if their reason for doing so is that they support ignoring the laws of the land. If they are willing to do that, then they couldn't be counted on when the chips were down as long as someone else waved a peso at them! Wouldn't they (and their children) benefit from having their country observe the law?

2. I don't think that the GOP politicians are worth saving. So if we lose them, and we lose the Republican party by not pandering to the illegals...big deal. Haven't we yet realized that there isn't a dime's worth of difference between the tweo parties? I see very little in the GOP worth saving, especially if it requires any extraordinary effort, and CERTAINLY NOT if it requires compromise of our integrity. (I'll leave that to the "elites" within the beltway)

Both parties will scramble to provide - at taxpayer expense - a multitude of benefits in order to purchase the vote of the ill-educated new "Americans", so who cares if it is the Dems or the GOP? Both will rape the producers in this country in order to pay for it.

I can vote against an incumbent no matter what letter appears after his name.

Amnesty Blackmail
Dick morriss believes that the Republicans in congress should submit to a form of Blackmail in my opinion to possibly garner a few at the most Latino votes ??? NEVER.
I believe that Morriss, as well as many of the Republican So Called elite have no real concept of how angry the public is over their attempt to grant amnesty.
I just wonder what they would do if they had a taste of Anti Amnesty demonstration in the streets.
We are a law and order society but what happens when you see a president and government who refuse to enforce the existing laws ???

And Dick...
if this bill is such a political slam dunk for the party, why is Pelosi trying to distance hersfle and her majority from it? Why are they trying to get a bunch of Repubs on board before they send it to that other Repub's desk for him to sign it?

"oh, it's not our fault"

This will be politcal candy for the Demos in 2008. There's sooo much good for the Demos to come out of this bill.

Why is this buffoon's column here?
This guy is a self-serving schmuck with all the acumen of Rainman, about as useful as a sixth toe, whose only interest seems to be in hearing himself make noise.

VOTE.

Give this ridiculous column and its pathetic author, a formewr Clintonista, one dinky check mark.

Too bad we can't deduct check marks!

What a bloody dolt!

Hey DICK, who is going to pay?
You would think the 20 million illegals are here for free.

The Heritage folks say it will cost $900 Billion in the next decade and add $2.5 Trillion to the Medicare and SS roles.

How can we ever include new 'citizens' who cost us $3 for every $1 they contribute?

Idiots all.

Pass this to get votes???????
What ever happened to trying to do whats best for the country?

Anyone who votes for this piece of crap will not get my vote in the next election. Instead, I will work for and donate money to who ever is running against them.

I am already a voter and I have a long memory.....

Dick Morris
thinks he has almost everything figured out but is nearly always wrong. I never read anything this goon writes and only clicked on this one because I knew there would be some great comments to read! I wasn't disappointed!

Are you drunk, Morris??
Besides the fact that Amnesty is national suicide, patently unfair, prohibitively expensive to the taxpayers, unAmerican and anti-worker, and dangerous to our national security.... it is UNENFORCEABLE! Who is going to do 20 million background checks? The same people who can't figure out how to get busses to New Orleans 5 days after a hurricane?

Give me a break! Amnesty is our govt's way of saying American citizenship no longer has any value since they are just giving it away to anyone who sneaks in.

Not to mention the legal challenges. Once these illegal aliens get their amnesty, their lobby groups will challenge all new laws and rules they don't like in the Courts (which we will pay for) and get them overturned. Just like they overturned Prop 187 in CA after the voters unanimously voted for it.

And Amnesty will be suicide for the Republican party, since all these people will vote Democrat. We will be left with one party only and that will lead to America becoming a Marxist Socialist Republic.

Amnesty is a terrible idea, and anyone who thinks it is is either terribly naive or looking to make sweeping changes to America that Americans don't want!

I would never consider voting for ANYONE who votes YES on Amnesty. NEVER. I consider them traitors to their nation.

I think it's pretty sad that our troops are overseas fighting for their country, while their own elected representatives are selling their country down the river.

A pox on Congress.

health care
Let's take your logic, Dick. You state that a Democrat will win next year, and I think you're right. If this immigration bill gets passed, and Hillary wins, they will be legal when she puts the full court press on for nationalized health care. We will then be obligated to include them in our "free" health care system. We will go from 17% of our economy going to health care, mixing in paying for 13% more of the populace that has no health care as of now, and that 17% begins to look more like 20% of our economy. They will break us economically. The status quo, while unacceptable, is superior to this bill. But you did make a good point that if it passed it would put the Latinos in the conservative camp.

Illegals
Dick misses the mark on everyone of his points. The was no bump in Hispanic voting for republicans when the first amnesty was granted, nor will there been one with at least 12 million illegals now. Accepting illegal behavior no matter what it is only gets more of the same.

Mr. Morris
Mr. Morris, you speak of what Republicans should do... You imply that the Democrats are going to win the election, so we should just go ahead and go along with this amnesty legislation, because it could be much worse. Nice logic there, Morris. The Republicans had the chance to actually FUND the fence that they had voted to build. They also had the opportunity to fund and supply adequate numbers of Border Patrol; not to mention stripping handouts to illegal aliens. But did they, when they had control of Congress? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. So now, you tell us to tuck our tails between our legs and just accept this BS piece of legislation, if we're good little Republicans.

Well, for me, Mr. Morris. I'm an American first; a conservative second and a Republican third. So therefore, so sorry, I will not ever accept amnesty.

And, Mr. Morris, if Hillary wins, it will be because of Wolves in Sheep's Clothing, like you, that are way too prevalent in the Republican party. That is the only good thing about this whole scamnesty bill.... you all have painted a big red bullseye on yourselves and I thank you for that. :-)

"If the citizens neglect their duty and place unprincipled men in office, they will soon be corrupted . . . If our government fails to secure public prosperity and happiness, it must be because the citizens neglect the Divine commands, and elect bad men to make and administer the laws.” [Noah Webster, The History of the United States (New Haven: Durrie and Peck, 1832), pp. 336-337, 49]

The Minutemen are doing their best to fight this thing and have good updates on their website.

Clean out Congress
God forgive me for saying so, but I'm starting to wish Flight 93 hadn't gotten thwarted and had hit it's target, the Capitol. Maybe Bin Laden would have done us a favor in the long run. We could have cleaned out all the entrenched corruption in Congress in one shot and we could have hopefully voted in REAL Americans who actually put their nation's welfare, sovereignty and security before their own self-serving agenda.

a voice to trust?
Ah, nothing like a former hired gun for Slick Willie Clinton to tell Republicans how they should act! NeoCON Dick Morris has been so right about Iraq-- let his wisdom keep flowing over us! He is also a rich, remote "elite" type (they LIKE their cheap domestic help, and those Mexicans are no threat to THEIR children's private schools) who cannot comprehend all the fuss among Middle Americans who are seeing their nation disappear as it morphs into a third world barrio.

Supporting ILLEGAL aliens will be the death knell for Republicans! There is so much disinformation being perpetrated by apologists for ILLEGALS that the xxxx is getting piled higher and deeper! "hackamore" is right-- when ILLEGALS are allowed to vote, they will break at least 9:1 for the left-- for big entitlement government. The fear of a backlash among native-born latino voters is misdirected-- about half of them in Az. recently approved tough new anti-ILLEGAL alien referenda issues in the state most immediately burdened by them.

This pending travesty legislation is SO EGREGIOUS that Rasmussen says it is equally disliked among Dems, Republicans, and Independents... what does that say prima facie?!?!

Rasmussen's latest poll also notes that 72% of all respondents think that REAL border security/enforcement MUST COME FIRST... only 30% have any concern about naturalizing ILLEGALS. Consider these recent Rasmussen polls:

http://www.rasmussenresearch.com/2006/May%20Dailies/Immigration%20State-by-State.htm
http://www.rasmussenresearch.com/2006/April%20Dailies/Immigration%20April%207.htm

highlights:
Support for an enforcement first policy on immigration tops the 60% mark in all but one of 33 states polled by Rasmussen Reports over the past month (see State-by-State Immigration Data).

Fifty percent (50%) of Americans say the immigration issue is very important. Another 32% say it is somewhat important.

An earlier survey found that two-thirds of Americans believe it doesn't make sense to debate new immigration laws until we can first control our borders and enforce existing laws. That same survey found that 40% of Americans favor "forcibly" requiring all 11 million illegal immigrants to leave the United States.

[Rasmussen Reports was the nation's most accurate polling firm during the Presidential election and the only one to project both Bush and Kerry's vote total within half a percentage point of the actual outcome.]

Mr Morris
I think you've gone and lost your ever lovin' mind!!!
To h*ll with party politics. This peice of (to steal Gunny G's Saying) dog sqeeze that they are tryingto pawn off onthe American people should be bagged and tossed it the trash with the rest of the dog sqeeze before ANYONE steps in it, Reup, Dem, Lib, or Conserv.

Disappearing Americans & Illegal Aliens

This is why when meat packing plants have been raided due to illegal immigrants it may explain why they are not having a hard time finding American workers to replace them.

Angry Bear-Here’s a post by reader Ken Melvin, tackling the issue of illegal immigrants and how it affects the official unemployment figures in the US:

E/P Ratio, Disappearing Americans, and Illegal Immigrants

In the beginning - a model. For this model, 80% of the current population of some 300 million are between 16 and 65, and some 70% of this 240 million, i.e., some 166 million, are available for work for which they are qualified that pays a decent wage. That is to say that, in the model, some 166 million of the current 300 million (US population November 2006) are in ‘the labor pool’ or ‘labor force’. If 150 million of the 166 million citizens are employed in 2006, then the remaining 16 million are unemployed. The ratio of this 150 million employed to the 240 million of the population between 16 and 65 years of age, 62.5%, is known as the employment to population ratio, E/P. The ratio of the 16 million unemployed to the 166 million people available for work as a percentage, 9.6%, is the percent of work force unemployed, or the rate of unemployment.

Dick Morris has lost his mind
So Dick thinks we need to reward 12 million people who crossed our border ILLEGALLY. I also heard Hillary wanted to allow all the convicted fellons the right to vote. No No No. We should welcome anyone who comes to this country in the legal manner as we always have done, but not those who are demanding rights undeserved. The Republicans are afraid of big business, and the Democrats are rubbing their hands as they see all the votes and the power it could bring them. The public is yelling it's heads off that we must return to a rule of order. I think Washington is so far out of touch, that they are shocked at the phone calls, emails, and letters coming from voters to put a stop to this bad and ill advised bill. Shame on president Bush for not standing up for what is right, congress is no surprise, they have not been right for a long time.

Morris is just as dumb as Novak
Except that he doesn't understand that the Latino community is not the unified whole that the black community is. The latino community is socially conservative by its very nature which emphasizes the family above all. Mostly they are anti abortion and catholic, so the run to appease illegal immigration does not hurt the republican party near as much as an insider like Morris thinks.

Freedom of Speech
My belief that everyone has a right to say what they please in a public forum is cast in granite, but I certainly do not intend to continue to support TH when they utilize the comments of pathological morons like Dick Morris.

I suppose they also have rights to trot out a variety of so-called opinion makers, but this Bozo wannabe comes from "under the barrel." I responded to the first column he submitted to TH because of his stratospheric level of stupidity or his whale dung level of intellect, but I am uncertain which. None the less, TH would be better off showing Morris where the back door is located.

Perhaps we could get Morris a job with Laraza or even a position under Putin in the KGB because he is master of the two-faced requirement.

Addendum
Morris is right about the Republican Party backing the so-called compromise. The Republicans are in favor of the deal, but it is the conservatives who recognize the mind numbing insanity of the immigration charade. The Republican Party is the same as the Democratic Party today in that they both hold meetings with the devil on a daily basis.

Once again Dick Morris is out front of the pack when it comes to appeasing those who support him financially like the cavalcade of stars at FOX. I say it is past time for TH to replace Morris with Alfred E. Neuman.

The forest and the trees
Dick Morris is forever focused on the trees and how many of them he can get to vote his clients' way. In the meantime, his opponents have set the edge of the forest on fire.

For crying out loud man, have you NO principles? How about just one, like we are a nation ruled by laws? Millions of aliens go about in open defiance of our immigration laws this very hour. Our government has proved inept at enforcment of the laws, yet your preferred solution in lieu of enforcement is a bigger regulatory morass for our inept government to administer. Get a brain and a BACKBONE Dick.

Idiotic
It's hard to express how idiotic this column is. The only thing enlightening about this column is how clearly it reveals what sorry, gutless political hacks the authors are. What's sad is that they aren't even right about the idea they're pushing. Anyone who thinks that amnesty will buy Republicans a significant share of the Hispanic vote is smoking something a little too strong. Meanwhile, the authors ask us to sell our country, our principles and our values down the river for this idiotic pipe dream. Even if the authors were right about getting the Hispanic vote, they'd be wrong on principle.

Townhall
Seems to be beholdin' to big business just like the WSJ pundits. They just keep trying to tell us why we are all wrong about comprehensive immigration reform, and why our wize leaders know best what is good for us.
For those that think the illegals are socially conservative, keep in mind, they have a higher out of wedlock birth rate than blacks. Many of them are nominally catholic but not OBSERVANT at all. They will vote 80% democrat because they love the freebies the stupid gringos offer them.

Morris is
just full of political crap.......he can't get past politics and throw a small amount of "what's good for America" in his thought process......betraying of America is ok if it supports the party..............

Mr. Morris
Yes, we are dealing with people, those who have paid the price to enter this country by its laws and those who have thumbed their noses at it for their own gain. And yes, things are bleak in Mexico, but that should be worked out with Mexico. No matter what, this is defintley not a political issue. Making it so will be result in bad decision-making and will hurt everyone on both sides for generations to come.

Our government is mandated by oath to do what is right for its citizens that placed them there, not what they believe is good for their political party. "Smacks" of Roman government doesn't it and we know what happened to them.

Come on Senators and Congressman - stand up and do the right thing - uphold our current laws as you were elected to do. Don't just change them in hopes of gaining votes. There is a solution to this, but not blanket forgiveness for violating our laws.

It's not about politics and we can't make it about economics, it's about security and principle.

Immigration
We do not need any immmigration reform, whatsoever. We need to enforce the laws already on the books. To do that we must have the cooperation of law enforcement agencies at all levels of government, Federal, State, County, City, Town and Village. Thus, any city that declares itself a "sanctuary" should have every penny of "federal" money that flows to it cut off, immediately. In addition to the law enforcement agencies, we need the cooperation of every citizen and legal immigrant, to identify and report illegals, so they can be sent back to the place from which they came.
It doesn't matter one whit what their motivation for breaking our laws is. It is irrelevant that "they just want a better life," or some other equally foolish variant of that refrain. They are breaking the law every day that they stay in our country illegally. A person who breaks the law is a criminal, and we have a sufficient number of citizens who are criminals; we don't need to import any more.
We need the cooperation of employers, and if they choose not to cooperate, they should suffer serious consequences. Give employers a 60 day period to identify any illegal aliens on their payrolls, and report them to the authorities for deportation. After the sixty day period is up, if illegal aliens are found on a company's payroll, a fine of $100,000.00 will be imposed. For a second offence, the employers will get gaol time. For a third offence, the company gets shut down.
Also, immediately cut off all services and benefits to illegal aliens. That means no welfare of any kind, no public schooling, no medical care unless death would be imminent, and then out they go, no in-state tuition rates at state colleges and universities, in fact, no admitance to those institutions for illegal aliens, in short, nothing. If you combine no jobs with no welfare, the illegal aliens will "deport" themselves.
It will take a bit longer, but the law must be changed that currently creates "anchor babies," to be that, unless the parents are in the country legally, the newborn is also an illegal alien, not automatically a U.S. citizen.
What is at stake here is the future of our country. The politicians, from the President of the United States down to the Deputy Assistant Fence Viewer of Jefferson, New Hampshire, are all employees of the people of this country, of the voters, actually, meaning U.S. CITIZENS. Unfortuneately, we, the people have allowed these employees of ours, especially at the federal level, to become our very own, self-appointed and self-annointed aristocracy. They may call themselves "public servants" when they are courting our votes, but they really believe that they are our rulers. They, particularly the President and way too many Representatives and Senators (the Senior Sot from Chappaquiddick comes immediately to mind), are arrogantly ignoring the wishes of their employers, we, the people. Unless we again hold them accountable for their actions, they will ruin this country.
It takes the American People a long time to get really angry, and it takes a great deal of provocation as well. But, and this is a key point, when they finally do get angry, their response is overwhelming. If our elected officials, especially at the federal level continue to ignore the clearly expressed directions from their employers, the consequences may be of a nature that no one would be willing to think could ever happen in our country.

want to get involved?
Earth to Dick Morris-- come in Dick! Please identify the planet you are on! Back here on Earth, we are forced to deal with the painful realities of the ILLEGAL invasion of America. Time is critical... do not bother to engage unless you are prepared to face realities, Dick.

Scamnesty: The Ultimate Largesse

Be afraid-- be VERY AFRAID! Congress, pushed relentlessly by the Conpiracy Of Evil, is poised to create a path to Scamnesty for 12-20 million ILLEGAL aliens. With "chain migration," that will mean MANY MORE millions of indigent poor-- and the permanent morphing of America into an entitlement government welfare state. The public trough will become a voracious, inexorable black hole devouring all that has made America great as we morph into a bilingual barrio.

If you listen to the pro-ILLEGAL alien arguments by members of the Conspiracy Of Evil, they are like low-hangin' fruit to refute... let's demythologize a couple of the most unctuous:

1) Disingenuous premises:
The "undocumented workers" are generally hard working, good people who simply want to feed their families and do those jobs that Americans won't do that America must have done... on balance, they give America more than they take... indeed, we MUST have their labors.

Reality Check:
ILLEGALS are too often both poor and undereducated-- a formula for socio-economic DISASTER if they are allowed to naturalize. We are simply allowing corrupt Mexico to dump its welfare problems on America. ILLEGALS drive down wages, and they ARE taking good jobs-- America does not save at all! A relative few hoteliers, contractors, meat processors, and other law-breaking employers milk them for lesser wages, then the TAXPAYERS GET STUCK with the crimes, barrio blight, drugs, gangs, sullied schools, ethnocentricity, and welfare costs. Bilingual education is a scam and an abysmal failure. ILLEGALS are at least 3x as likely as legal residents to be incarcerated for serious crimes:

http://www.theamericanresistance.com/articles/art2004jan04.html
http://www.amren.com/Reports/Hispanics/HispanicsReport.htm

2) We should respect their "rights" and put those who have a job on a path to citizenship and require the payment of back taxes, learning English, and paying a $2,000 fine. They have a right to come here because "our immigration system is broken."

Truth Check--
HOGWASH! We owe them NOTHING! NO THING! It is NOT our immigration system which is broken-- it is the nonfeasance of the national pols to enforce existing laws which has precipitated this crisis. We need to require a tamper-proof I.D. card ASAP for ANY non-citizen to function here period-- to work, get a license, attend school, rent an apt., pass go, etc. They will not really build the wall or otherwise crack down on employers-- the I.D. card radiates the cancer at its starting point. Make ILLEGALS repatriate to apply for it, then vet them thoroughly to see who might come back on an INTERIM basis to work.

There should be NO CONNECTION WHATSOEVER between having been here ILLEGALLY and later gaining citizenship. Token fines and back taxes are a farce! Some would charge them a $2,000 fee when their ANNUAL cost to taxpayers (per Heritage) will be $22k just in net govt. services used alone for a family headed by an uneducated, poor ILLEGAL?!?!

Why is this such a vexing problem? Because different powerful users with ulterior agendas salivate over ILLEGALS --> the PC "elite" left sees poor, malleable voters (40 acres and a mule redux) who will assure big entitlement government for the Big Brother elites to control; miscreant employers see cheap labor that the taxpayers are forced to subsidize; the scandal-plagued Catholic Church sees replacement contributors; self-serving national pols see hispanic votes in key states; the well-heeled like their cheap domestic help-- and THEIR children will not have their private schools ruined by them; finally the latino groups quite simply indubitably seek the Reconquista-- the morphing of America into Mexicomerica.

Middle America MUST unite and stop Scamnesty which is again pending in Congress. You can learn more and/or get involved to save America at the sites below. First, an easy way to reach the OFFICIAL contact info for your Senators and Representatives to oppose the pending Scamnesty Bills:

http://www.congressmerge.com/onlinedb/index.htm

BOOKMARK IT AND BARK AT THEM OFTEN! It IS EASY-- just a few clicks!!!

Some say that it does no good to contact Congress... don't believe it! Middle Americans like you derailed Kennedy-McQuisling Scamnesty in the House last year! Congressman Peter King said he had NEVER seen such a revolt in the heartland in his many years in congress. BUT the Conspiracy Of Evil is determined to cram ILLEGALS down America's throats, so we MUST BE RELENTLESS in expressing our righteous indignation to stop Scamnesty. We won the first battle, but we MUST NOT LOSE THE WAR! Congressional staffers track the feedback... I get letters and e-mails back from Congresspersons who do not even represent me addressing my specific concerns. YOU CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!

Other good sites are below... the first one is GREAT -- a well-organized group trying to save America from myopia... it has prepared e-mails addressing proposed legislation you can customize and/or just send to your elected representatives!:

FOLKS, THE VERY SURVIVAL OF THE AMERICAN HERITAGE, RULE OF LAW, CULTURE, COMMON LANGUAGE, SOCIO-ECONOMIC STABILITY-- INDEED THE AMERICAN WAY IF LIFE ITSELF-- ARE IN DIRE JEOPARDY!

That "cheap" labor is nothing of the sort! Per Heritage, EACH household headed by an undereducated, ILLEGAL alien will cost taxpayers $22k a year in deficit taxes versus services used alone! And that is just the tip of the iceberg of their total costs (crime control, enervated schools, balkanized barrios)! GET INVOLVED TO STOP THE INVASION NOW FOLKS-- BEFORE IT IS TOO LATE! AMERICA WOULD BE A TERRIBLE THING TO WASTE!

Dick's still a liberal
Dick, while we know that you don't like Hillary anymore, you're obviously still a liberal so please stay out of the conservative arena. The problem with your argument is that it's based on politics. So we should give amnesty to illegals so that they can vote for Republicans? That's the very mentality that is leading Republican and Democratic politicians to sell-out this country by supporting this lunacy. It's OK for you to be a political consultant, but it's not OK for our politicians to screw this country for future votes. It is disgusting and pathetic.

We're elect politicians to protect and serve America. Please enlighten us and tell us how legalizing an invasion is good for America?

I'm all ears!

And Then what
Okay, Dick you're right the Republicans just need to sign this amnesty bill (any Amnesty Bill) so that we don't alienate the fastest growing Demographic.

And then what...

I suppose that the GOP will later have to sign on to reparations legislation to latinos for the shameful way that their native lands were stolen from them by the white man -- can't offend this newly powerful demographic after all.

And then the pathetically few "draconian" elements of the Amnesty bill will have to be eliminated so that again these lations don't go running to the other side of the aisle.

And then the GOP will have to come out in support of a paid federal holiday for Cesar Chavez or Jorge Bush honoring these great Latin patriots -- to not be for this holiday would be racist and risks alienating this important demographic.

And then the GOP will have to sign onto affirmative action programs especially designed for Latinos -- this will be the only solution for a party still struggling with its racist past and a move sure to maintain and grow GOP support amongst the Latino community.

And then...

Oh well you get the idea.

Completely off your rocker!
You say;" The hopes of the entire Latino community are pinned to immigration reform...", but you left out one, very important word, ILLEGAL. A more accurate statement would have read; " The hopes of the entire (ILLEGAL) Latino community are pinned to immigration reform and, if the GOP is seen as blocking it, the consequences for the indefinite future will be horrific. These are the hopes of all undocumented immigrants living illegally in the U.S. The Republican party would not, and should not, lose votes from these latinos, Latinas, as they cannot vote. The Latino community, who are here legally, pinned their hopes to an immigration process that took time, and money. From this community is where the republicans could lose votes, as the Latino community is a close family community. These people went through an excruciating process of paper, time, and money, which gives them a sympathetic ear. They may, personally, know many of the undocumented, and are personally connected by heritage. This is the family that went through an immigration process, and understand why the majority of undocumented did not complete, or skipped entirely. Here is where the republican party can make positive changes in immigration reform, and pick up a greater Latino base. The left plays the Latinos passions with a quick fix compromise, that does not reform the reason. The right, correct, direction is to passionately reform a bureaucracy to address the main reason.

Those, who have never been through the process, or sponsored anyone going through it, has no idea of the time, and money, involved. A great deal of the paperwork requires an attorney to understand the language. Every paper filed, and there is many, requires a filing, and processing fee. Many of the same papers need to be filed at various offices, paying the required filing, and processing fees. There is no sharing of information between immigration offices with these papers. They won't duplicate, and send, a papers from one U.S. office to another. An applicant completes, pays, and sends them to various U.S. immigration offices. As they also complete, pay, and send, papers to U.S. overseas immigration offices, duplicates incuded. These fees, and attorney fees, add up. An applicant can expect paying thousands to complete the process. I won't even talk about the time it takes for the immigration office to process these papers. The processing time quoted on the form is one of those roving benchmarks.

USCIS is overwhelmed with applicants, and they do the best they can, with the rules in place. Here, is where, the desire to skip entering legally begins. As this is also where America should focus its attention. Border control first, in conjunction with intelligently reforming the process. Compromising solutions are speculative actions taken to place a bandage on the wound. Reforming actions are solutions that deal with the wounds cause.

The will to fight
Dick Morris represents the sophistry that got us into this immigration nightmare....bad parent ignoring and therefore rewarding bad behavior. Compromise on laws, compromise on truth, compromise what it means to be American.

I really fear failure to stand by our laws NOW will set the wheels in motion for major civil unrest This has awakened a sleeping giant. YOU SHOULD HEAR THE PEOPLE. You are limp wristed Dick.

Your kind bent over in 1965, 1980, 1986 WITH GREAT RESULTS and want to do it again.

Evangelical Latins
We don't need an amnesty to evangelize. The best strategy would be no amnesty and continue to evangelize. Evangelism is not to bring people to the Republican party but to bring a person to Christ through the actions of the Holy Spirit through us. It isn't political at all.

The US Senate sells out

This is a letter sent to me about the immigration bill that Phil sent out in protest to lawmakers.

As a registered Republican who is also livid at the sell out being orchestrated by the traitors who call themselves representatives of the people. The US legislative branch has been disconnected from the electorate on the issue of illegal aliens and unlawful immigration for years. I had the pleasure of listening to Rep. Dana Rohrabacher on CSPAN last night where he went over the details of S 1348 with a critical eye. He and many like him can see this sell out for what it is. I am curious if the CofC and moneyed interests have influenced your judgment as they have many on the hill. If you spent some time with D.A. King of The Dustin Inman Society, I am sure that you will change your tune. Let's be honest. This is all about cheap labor and money being preferred over the American middle class and to further the integration of the USA with Mexico and Canada. What that happens America will no longer exist. I would hope that you would be able to see that. NAU, SPP, CAFTA, FTAA, LOST, etc. are obviously cogs in the wheel to establish the NWO. There is sufficient information in the public domain by the likes of Robert Pastor and his ilk at the CFR on the CFR web page, to make obvious to whomever wants to learn, our national sovereignty is being threatened and S 1348, if passed, would create a third world banana republic where the United States of America used to be. Wake up sir.

Ron Paul is the only one speaking the truth. Certainly not Saxby nor Johnny.

Regards,
Phil

A vote loser
Enough people have picked apart the bad policy advocated by Dick Morris. But with refreshing honesty, Morris bases his plea not on policy but on politics.

According to the Rasmussen Poll, the vast majority of Americans oppose this bill. Even more encouraging, the vast majority want to see enforcement first, prior to any amnesty.

Morris wants to align our party with the pro-amnesty minority, in order to pick up future Hispanic votes. Whether that will-of-the-wisp promise of Mexican-American Republicans is realizable is one fact Morris doesn't address.

But in the broader question, does it make political sense to anyone outside the Beltway to align the GOP with the minority, rather than the majority? Especially when the majority is correct on the policy involved?

A pig is a pig
You can tie a pink ribbon around a pig and put lipstick on it and you know what you'll have? A pig.

You can take an amnesty bill and talk about how passing it will win votes for the Party in the near future and you know what you'll have? A pig.

You can take the Party of Lincoln and expand its numbers, power, and influence by compromising everything it's supposed to stand for and you know you'll have? A pig.

You can take a shameless pollster who enabled Bill Clinton to get re-elected and give him a column on TH and you know what you'll have? A pig.

By God, You Elites are STUPID!
It's much easier for you to believe that all 75% of the American people are xenophopic, bigoted or racists thereby explaing why we don't agree with you; then just facing the truth--YOU ARE WRONG!!!! YOU ARE WRONG ABOUT US AND YOU ARE WRONG ABOUT ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION!

We don't want ILLEGALs (i.e. people who are LAW BREAKERS) to be rewarded with AMNESTY! Not murders, not rapists, not child abusers, not robbers, not gang members, not drug smugglers, and not illegal immigrants!!! Arguably ( at least from their point of view) all of the above broke the laww in order to give themselves a "better" life. Oh well- sorry we are a nation of LAWS!

Whether you stupid elites like it or not!

Dick think again
The only way the Rebublican party loses is if this bill passes. If that happens the Democrats have millions of new registered Democrats. It doesn't matter who passes it. These illegals live in L.A., Denver, etc., the Blue cities. Count on it they will be blue.

By the way I am a 58 year old "Hispanic", My parents and Grand Parents were born in America. I am an American First, I look at this country through that lens not the "Hispanic" lens.

Dick, I invite you and your family to please come live in East L.A. for a week. I want to see how you and your kids survive in this foreign city. You will see first hand that the erasuure of America has already begun.

Hey Dick,
If you could be graded on wishful thinking you'ld get an "A". Since you are not, you get one check mark for being an out of touch, disengenuous knucklehead.

Morris tries to push horse with cart
Like many statisticians Morris forgets that stats are not a means unto themselves.

It does NO GOOD to be the majority party if you have to give away the rule of law to get it.

Morris also fails (avoids?) completely to mention that every illegal in this country will become legal and able to work the moment this bill becomes law. If these invaders didn't bother to go through the 'line' to become citizens when they couldn't be here legally or work legally what makes Morris and these other morons think they're going to do it after their residence and employment become legal.

And, as previous posters have discussed, Latinos are not a uniform voting bloc. In fact, it was the Cuban expatriate community in Miami that swung the 2000 Presidential election to Bush in retaliation for Clinton's assault on the home of Elian Gonzalez' cousin and forcibly returning the boy to Castro's Cuba.

Of course, Morris hadn't had his falling out with the Clinton's yet, so that one probably didn't register on his radar screen.

I've got a "compromise" for you.
Here's my offer.

If the Congress and the President will agree to $hitcan this piece of $hit and immediately get serious about enforcing the existing law by deporting averyone of these illegals instead of signing them up to vote and receive entitlements, We The People will agree not to impeach the entire lot of them and charge them with sedition.

Morris takes it form a different view
He looks at things from the view point of how it could effect the politician. That was his job for years and he's not going to change. He often makes good points and while I generally don't agree with his view on things it is nice to get the other side of the arguement. As a voter I want to input as much informantion as I can into my brain. I want to hear ALL the arguements reguardless of how ridiculous they may seem.

As my ex-liberal fiance often says the difference between liberals and conservatives is conservatives will listen to the other side and debate it the liberals refuse to listen to facts that could shatter their dillusions. I've never known a liberal that was still a liberal after they actually talked about politics. What amazes me is the number of people I hear say how they would vote for Hillary because it would be "cool" to have a female President. I personally think it would be cool to have a GOOD President. Unfotunatly if you care about the constitution and the United States of America you pretty much can't be President because the ignorant masses won't vote for you. If they would the next President would be Tancredo or Hunter with an outside chance for Ron Paul.

Right on Dick
For once, some one is telling it like it is. I give Dick full credit for seeing the forest for the trees. As Republicans we have a great chance to get things right, and I believe this bill is a good first step. As far as I am concerned, it ain't amnesty if it takes 10 freakin years, a trip back to the mother land, and payment of a $5000 fine. What percentage of folks will actually comply? We can be stubborn and watch our party drop to minority status real fast, for a very long time. A compromise that strengthens our borders and gives working folks a chance (albeit a slow one) to become a legal citizen is a good thing.

Republican Support
Dick says republicans should support this bill - it seems they do - the republican politicians anyway.

The working man trying to raise a family with good moral values and love of country doesn't seem to have a voice in our gov't just in these forums where we can preach to the choir.

Listen Dick - the rest of us don't want our country overwhelmed by 100 million hispanics or germans or italians etc. - we are not bigots or xenophobic - and we don't want to sell citizenship for 5k to 30,000 gang members in east L.A.

Dick MORE A$$, Medved and Will
all FOR the compromise... The CALL themselves Republicans... HA HA HA

At least Novacancy had one WORD right -- RAGE!

If it weren't for a few, VERY FEW, true Republicans, TH could claim the title of RINO site...

NO COMPROMISE, NO AMNESTY, NO DEAL.

ENFORCEMENT ONLY. Whether you are Republican, RINO or Democrat - you need to side WITH America. And elected congressPEOPLE MUST SUPPORT the CONSTITUTION AS IT STANDS (or win enough votes to change it.) YOU TOOK AN OATH! Well, we are being invaded by an army of 20 million - WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO ABOUT IT?

I'm with Joyce
Where is a jihadist in a plane when you REALLY need him?

Silly lad, Mark
What in the world makes you believe that this compromise with its caveats, rules and regulations won't be treated the exact same way that the 1986 amnesty was? Or the 700+ mile-long wall along the border? Or the stiff fines on employers of illegal aliens? Or the laws against identity theft? Or any of the hundreds of laws already on the books that the illegal alien invaders and their collaborators in the business and government communities systematically ignore every single day?

What in the world makes you believe that, once these invaders are legitimized, they won't continue to march and protest that the caveats, rules and regulations are "unfair", "inhumane", and "discriminatory"?

And what in the world makes you believe that the quislings in Washington won't cave - AGAIN?

Please let us in on your belief system.

Please let me in on your belief system.

Republican Motive
I'm glad Mr. Morris suggests that republicans do things to garner votes rather than make decisions based on any sound principles. Pandering to the masses while ignoring our constitution and the principles laid out therein seems a sure way to save our republic.

Bi-Partisan Elite Propaganda
is exactly what this immigration "reform" actually is. Do not think for one minute that any of these corrupt, do nothing, let's get re-elected, power hungry partisans of either party want what is best for the nation!! What they want are more votes and more tax dollars to waste on their socialist, internationalist agenda!

As a candidate for President in 2008, I urge you to visit my website, JOEOLIVAFORPRESIDENT.ORG.
It is the only place you will find anyone willing to advocate a complete return to the Constitution, rule of law, and will of the people as the principles by which we govern ourselves as a free people. I am the only candidate who has openly published, on the pages of my website, a Campaign Platform that shows exactly how we can accomplish this goal.

Make no mistake, another Democrat OR Republican President will only strengthen the forces that are against American sovereignty and guarantee for this great nation and our children a future under more big government intrusion and declining personal freedoms.

In this election, we have a choice, and an opportunity to reclaim our inheritance if we have the faith and the guts to do so. Anything else is just more of the same old same old that will never produce a different result. This is the election and now is the time to exercise our authority as the rightful owners of this great nation to reclaim the birthright that has been stolen from us. If we fail, we may not ever get a chance to recover from it! If you don't believe that this is the time and now is our chance, given that no candidate is a sitting V.P., can you tell me when this opportunity is going to come again?? Can you give your excuse why we have to elect one of these politicians once again?? Can you explian how they only are wise enough, smart enough, experienced enough? After having made a mess of things, can you tell me why we should now trust them to fix it??

Visit my website, read what I have to say, then e-mail me and tell me , am I wrong?? Thanks, Joe

spelling correction
explain, not explian.

Congress Approval Rating
Dick,

Check-out congressional approval rating at RealClearPolitics.com. It's in the 20s. Maybe you should be advising both parties to secure the border instead of opening the floodgates.

Bottom-Line
01. They are already here and MANY of them have been here for years and are solid members of the community.

02. They are a conservative lot of folks, very family oriented & church oriented.

03. Say what you will, they work HARD and are far more willing to get their hands dirty than many Americans are.

04. Enforcement DEFINITELY needs to take A BIG STEP UP! Deport any aliens with a criminal record. Build A BIG FENCE and monitor ALL OF IT!

05. Assimilation MUST OCCUR and FAST! Also, the ANCHOR BABY issue needs to be addresses one way or the other.

IF STRICT ENFORCEMENT and ASSIMILATION are part of it, I COULD BE PERSUADED to support it. Otherwise, SCRAP IT NOW!

P.S.
Morris's only consistent position is Anti-Hitlery. Whatever she is for he is against and vice-versa. TH could do a lot better than Dick Morris!

Time for a Biblical plague
to descend on DC.

Georgetwin
01. So what?
02. So What?
03. So What?
04. Agree except add "deport all that can be found".
05. Agree if Anchor Baby is eliminated

Exactly Right
Morris is right. The greatest political mistake of the last fifty years was when the Republicans allowed themselves to be portrayed as opposing the 1964 Civil Rights Act. In 1960, Richard Nixon (yes, Nixon!) got well-over 20% of the black vote. Martin Luther King Sr. had been a life-long registered Republican and Nixon had the support of the great Jackie Robinson. If the Republicans could have just maintained this support, they might have never lost another presidential election and the country would have been spared Jimmy Carter ("history's greatest monster", according to The Simpsons).

Instead, they alienated black voters in 1964 and have been futilely trying to get even some of them back ever since. Now, it is true that Goldwater and those other Republicans who opposed the Civil Rights Act believed they were acting out of principle, not bigotry. That is, they objected to the idea of the government telling a restaurant or hotel owner who he could serve in his own establishment. The fact that these Republicans were honestly motivated by principle does not change the fact that: (a)they were wrong; and (b)the political consequences were disastrous.

Similarly, I know that many of you who oppose the Immigration Bill do so out of principle, i.e., you believe that entering the U.S. illegally is wrong and, therefore, no legislation that allows these illlegals to become legal can be justified. But you are not dealing with political or economic reality. The political consequences of obstructing immigration reform are that the Republicans will alienate Latino voters just as they did black voters forty years ago, and they will be consigned to political oblivion for a generation.

And, as a matter of economics, the fact is that illegals come here because they can obtain better-paying employment, and employers hire them because employers have a demand for inexpensive labor that is not being filled by the current workforce. This is a win-win voluntary transaction. Those of you who believe in free markets should give that due consideration. And you should also have more faith in America's ability to handle a wave of immigration. We've dealt with much greater challenges than people wanting to come here to work.

dICK mORRIS
Is an idiot

Illegals want this, do they?
It seems to be glossed over that this bill won't work because a)illegals have to return to their home countries for years and b)pay $5k to get citizenship. The reason they came here illegally in the first place was to NOT WAIT and NOT PAY.

Furthermore, I can think of at least three things in Dick Morris' three-line bio that should disqualify him of any credibility.

This is bigger than about republicans

Blah blah blah

All bilge

Down with both democrats and republican mafias.

Enter Stage Left
We are apparently about to sanction, once again, the act of human slavery. This so-called immigration bill is nothing short of the reintroduction of slavery into the United States.

The current slave masters (George Bush, et al)see only one color and that is GREEN so we may all be groveling at their feet for a few morsels in the not too distant future.

If I might suggest a very important situation to those who would like to eliminate my middle class status, I strongly suggest you disarm me first because I happen to know what freedom means and I do not intend to relinquish it without a fight, and I do not fear your elitist powers since even the devil himself fears truth and justice.

By the way Morris, you are still devoid of anything even resembling common sense and logical rationalization.

What crap
I read the first paragraph and stopped right there. What crap. Can someone tell me when Dick Morris ever had an opinion he didn't amend the following day when he was proven wrong?

Dick Morris on Amnesty.
He ignores the obvious fact that the people hurt the most by the artesian flood of hungry, pliable, poorly educated and unskilled Latinos are the U.S. underclass of Latinos, blacks and poor whites already here. Surveys of U.S. Latinos show clearly that the majority of them want immigration control. Border control is necessary, and Bush simply gives lip service to it now. But the only way to solve the problem is to de-magnetize the jobs magnet by strict employment controls. That would not only stop the inflow, but by attrition, the 12-20 million existing illegal aliens would eventually self-deport.

Politically
Mr. Morris has a far better instinct that I of how things will play out politically. However, I believe the future Hispanic vote would be huge in favor of the Dems whether Republicans favor some sort of "comprehensive" immigration reform or not. Most of the immigrant voters will see the Dems (rightfully so) as the party most likely to provide greater entitlements, and so will deliver their votes to them.

Principals aside, I'm not aware of many times it has worked well for Republicans to try to out-Democrat the Democrats. The Repubs will be spun as the ones who opposed the bill and as anti-immigration whether it passes or not.

And I don't really see the validity of the analogy between the 1964 Civil Rights Act and this situation. The illegal aliens are in the country illegally, they are not fellow American citizens. There is a procedure for immigrating legally, and I have not seen one TH poster yet on this subject who I perceive would not stand united behind those immigrants who are here legally and who view themselves as Americans.

Morris
Dick Morris? Oh yeah, that's the guy who worked for the Clintons and now makes his living bashing Hillary, acting like he's always been a conservative, right, that one?
Morris is best known for managing Bill Clinton's successful 1996 bid for re-election to the office of President of the United States? that one right?
Morris once joked he will leave the United States if Hillary Clinton were to be elected president in 2008? that one right?
Hey Dick, get a grip, you're not conservative, go play golf with McCain!

OrlandoCajun
The first 3 are just My Humble Opinion of a LARGE majority of illegals. Are there criminals among them? Certainly, there are rotten apples in EVERY barrel. My overall point is, THEY WANT TO BE HERE! With some major adjustments I COULD BE PERSUADED to support this bill. As it is written, SCRAP IT NOW!

Dick,
This is not just about party politics, this is about the future of our country.

Immigration unchecked will destroy our economy and put the burden of supporting all these unskilled, uneducated immigrants on the tax payers, to the tune of billions a year. As seen with the Fort Dix incident, some illegal immigrants also seek to do us harm by engaging in terrorism here in the U.S..

The two party system is failing.

The factors you leave out of your article are the huge portion of the population who do not usually vote, or those that consider themselves independent and swing from party to party depending on the issues they find important.

There are many more potential votes from the pool of non-voters & independent voters that the Republicans could pull from in 2008 by choosing America first and opposing the immigration bill than the few potential votes the Republicans could get from the Hispanics if they pandered to them and supported the immigration bill.

The 2004 U.S. Census Bureau's Current Population Survey http://www.census.gov/prod/2006pubs/p20-556.pdf shows that there were 197 million citizens in the U.S., but only 142.1 million of those were registered to vote. That alone provides a pool of 54.9 million potential voters who could be encouraged to vote, especially if they feel passionately about the immigration issue.

Of the 142.1 registered voters only 125.7 voted. That means there is already 16.4 registered voters out there who may vote in 2008 if motivated enough, and the immigration issue is quite a motivator.

Politically I'd be looking to the pool of 71.3 million citizens who did not vote in 2004 for future votes before I look to making criminals into citizens so they can vote for my party in future elections.

And remember not all Hispanics in the U.S. are in favor of amnesty either. There are many Legal Immigrant Hispanics and Americans with Hispanics heritage who either worked hard to immigrate the right way or were born here and oppose amnesty.

Maybe the Republican party wouldn't need to look to the illegals for future votes if they would stand for the ideals they once stood for.

There have been many mentions of Reagan in this campaign, so they know the conservative voters want to return to the days when the party stood for something.

Buenos dias, amigos!

IQ OF 87, KENNNEDY'S CHOICE
Heather McDonald: “From 1990 to 2004, Hispanics accounted for 92 percent of the increase in poor people. Half of all children born to Hispanic-Americans in 2005 were born out of wedlock -- a reliable predictor of social pathologies.”

Robert Rector of The Heritage Foundation: “ a low-skilled population will cost the welfare state far more than the immigrants' contributions to the economy and government. He argued that low-skilled immigrants are costly to the welfare state at every point in their life cycle, and are very costly when elderly. Just the 9 million to 10 million illegal adults already here will, if given amnesty, cost an average of $300,000 -- cumulatively, more than $2.5 trillion -- in various entitlements (Social Security, food stamps, Medicaid, housing, etc.) over 30 yrs.

Peter Brimelow, "There is recent evidence that, even after four generations, fewer than 10 percent of Mexicans have post-high school degrees, as opposed to nearly half of non-Mexican-Americans."

Ann Coulter: “Since Teddy Kennedy's 1965 Immigration Act, more than half of all legal immigrants have been unskilled, non-English-speaking Mexicans. America takes in roughly 1 million legal immigrants each year. Only about 30,000 of them have Ph.D.s. Why on earth would any rational immigration policy discriminate against immigrants with Ph.D.s in favor of unskilled, non-English-speaking immigrants?”

MORRRISSS!!!!!!! DICK! DICK MORIS!!!
YO, DICCCCK, TELL ME, DICKKKK:
WHO DO I TALK about paying $5k fine and skip paying income tax?
Everyone in Mex have families - and they will bring them all (ALL) here.
Are u an idiot or pretend to be, or do you think YOU ARE TALKING TO IDIOTS???

TOWN HALL - KICK HIM OUT!!!!!!!!!

Still laughing...
Man my sides ache after this one. Morris, you almost had me there. That the Republican party would be harmed if they do not pass the immigartion bill, that is too much. You are so good at sarcasm that I almost thought you were serious. Add to that the Republicans abdicating their base for the sake of a false perception that illegal latinos would actually vote R - all at the increadible expense of our country's security, wow, you are really good. You are really good.

Or, you are an idiot.

Politics
If either Republicans or Democrats do what Dick Morris suggests and sell out the security of the United States in order to gain political favor they should all be turned out of office. This would be a gross violation of the oath of office that they have sworn.

William Whiteley

DICK MORIS! EILEEN MCGANNNNN!!!!!!!!!!!!

EILEEN - DO YOU KNOW WHAT DOES HE DO TO WOMEN'S FEET???? STAY AWAY FROM HIM - OR - TAKE YOUR SHOES OFF - YOUR CHOICE... :----i

As a resident of texas with dozens of
LEGAL hispanic friends, I can tell you that the majority of hispanics, at least the ones that I know, are also against this legislation. Legal citizens do not want additional competition for the jobs that they have. It will stagnate wages and opportunities for advancement. This is Economics 101.

No Dick
The Republicans need to do what's right, instead of what they, and you, deem to be politically expedient.

In the long run, the GOP and this nation will be better for it.

Dick
Out of the ashes arises the Phoenix. If we have to kill the GOP in order to clean it up then so be it. Like the hispanics are going to vote that way anyway. Get Real! Free money in the form of social services triumphs their so called family values and so called religious priciples. I say so called because as one who is forty something and a Californian I have been dealing with this issue my whole life. I have yet to see these religious and family values. Look ast the illegals. It isn't what they say it is what they do. Nothing they do supports the hypothesis of religious and family values.

Usual lame arguements

Similarly, I know that many of you who oppose the Immigration Bill do so out of principle,
With respect to the statement about illegal aliens wwritten by georgebushisgod, "i.e., you believe that entering the U.S. illegally is wrong and, therefore, no legislation that allows these illlegals to become legal can be justified." Notice that your statement admits that these people have entered the country illegally. "Illegally," in case you have forgotten the means that they have broken the law, and when you break the law, you commit a crime. By staying here, they continue to commit crime, on a daily basis. So, Yes, I do believe that any legislation that would reward these criminals for their crimes cannot be justified.

With respoct to another section of that same post, "And, as a matter of economics, the fact is that illegals come here because they can obtain better-paying employment, and employers hire them because employers have a demand for inexpensive labor that is not being filled by the current workforce. This is a win-win voluntary transaction. Those of you who believe in free markets should give that due consideration," did you really think about what you are advocating? "..demand for inexpensive labour that is not being filled by the current workforce," because the "current workforce, or U. S. Citizens, expect to be paid a fair wage, and have decent working conditions. But you know that. Then, there is the part about this being a voluntary transaction, and people who believe in free markets should give that due consideration. So a belief in free markets means I should countenance law-breaking? And, if voluntary transactions are automatically good, then there should be no government mandated minimum wage, right? Oh, a voluntary transaction between consenting adults with respect to professional ladies and their clients should be legal, everywhere, should it not?
Rot!

No no no
This isn't about being a republican but about being an American.

B.S. - NO IMMIGRATION AMNESTY!!!
I don't like Dick Morris telling us what we should do. There is absolutely NO need for a new bill, just enforce the existing laws! There wouldn't be an immigration problem if we weren't giving away so much free stuff, food stamps, free health care, housing assistance, etc. Quit doing that and it will work out. Otherwise we are doomed into being slaves for those who are living off the system. It can't work forever.

The NEW Latinos
Don't you get it? Illegal latinos ARE the new niggers! Steal it now(someones social security number), sneak in, and get everything else (medical, food stamps, etc.) free later from the goverment. Your piece is full of caca!!!!

Amnesty is a HOAX!
Adding 20 million illegals to the American Workforce will place younger Americans who are just starting their lives at a strong disadvantage and make unemployment lines much longer.

The jobs left vacant by the newly made Mexican/Americans will swiftly be filled by a swarm of new illegals.

This Amnesty Bill simply legalizes theft of our Birthrights.

Kennedy and most other buisybody politicians live so remote from this problem they are not capable of seeing the harm they cause America.

If this Amnesty passes, America will soon have no middle class, there will be only the very rich and the very poor.

Wellfare?
Third World Nations do not have Wellfare!

Single issue politicians
I am so tired of these self-serving politicians. They have one issue and one issue only--getting re-elected. Everything boils down to whether or not a decision impacts their re-election. There isn't a statesmen in the whole lot of them. They don't "represent" anyone but themselves. What a scam. They bring in the votes and generations of Americans get stuck with the bill.
Oh and Dick, sure the Latinos won't soon forget that GWB signed this legislation into law. Just like the Black community has never forgotten that the republican party overwhelmingly did more to advance civil rights than the democratic party did. Right??? Just like the Blacks, the Latinos will forget too. But, I don't think conservatives will forget how the republicans sold our country for a potential voting block. I think this will do the republicans in. That's most likely why the democrats are pushing so hard to get this done now. They'll gain votes and destroy the opposition party at the same time.

Dear Dick: Are You KIDDING ???
I hope, Sir Richard sirrah, that you were jesting when you wrote this column. Have you forgotten the 1986 Simpson-Mazzoli Act that was supposed to have solved the Invader problem of that time ? I don't recall it ever being enforced in any serious fashion.

This new act will not be enforced in any fashion either, should it pass. There are any number of "waiver" provisions that can be used to let members of the politically-correct victim groups of the day pass in. There will be no wall, no extra troops to guard the borders---nothing that will offend the interests of the large corporations and wealthy individuals that contribute to both political parties on the national level.

As to who supports what politically, O Richard, the Republicans' soon-to-be-former base is the white lower- and middle class. They are precisely the ones whose interests have been compromised by this misbegotten mishmash of a bill. Hispanic Invaders, O Richard, tending to be poor and demanding public benefits, are natural Democrats. The GOP should be concentrating on keeping them OUT, while keeping native-born whites and blacks IN.

Anyone who supports this proposal, Sir Richard, is either a knave or a fool. Pray tell me, sirrah---which one are you ?

Your servant,

Lord Karth

I would much rather
lose the Republican party than lose our nation.

Amnesty will lose our nation and our sovereignty.

Instead:
Close the border--solid.

Force ALL 20 million illegal mexicans out.
1. Jail time for illegals if not employed otherwise deport.
2. Major fines for employers who hire illegals.
2a. $25,000 base fine plus $5,000/illegal.
3. ALL Americans must apply for, and obtain, a tamperproof identity card with picture and thumbprint.
3a. Citizens must prove they are citizens with this application, of course.

ALL public advertising must be in english. No more printing of forms for every language possible. This is an ENGLISH nation.

Must have a green card to re-enter our country. Must speak english, no criminal record in either country.
Green cards processed in maybe two-three entry points.
Any proof of a job waiting in our country or a former job held here gets priority.

An application for citizenship can be tendered at any time. The old requirements for naturalized citizenship apply. Speak/read/write English. Have job waiting. Have a sponsor. etc.

What do you all think of this procedure??

Right on. Your experience as mine, tells us a he-- of a lot about how people are going to act in the U.S.A. when the place is just handed to them.

Very few people know about the Welsh in Argentina or anywhere else for that matter. Notice they placed themselves very far removed from mainstream Argentina. Pretty country though.

Even though the average Latin from Mexico or elsewhere did take it pretty
hard to get here, and yes most of them work pretty well, they will not assimilate very well because there are just too many of them all at once, and they are arriving when the Multi-culturism bandwagon is at its height. It's called an INVASION, and has about the same results for us.

They are inundated by mexican music, stores, next door neighbors, television, radio, movies, parades -- that foreigners can't do in Mexico because it's prohibited for foreigners to particpate in any way, shape or form in politics. Yes, they are very tough on foreigners in Mexico. They just want tourists, here today - gone tomorrow.

Dying at the Border

Bush Administration, Dying at the Border

This is from “Skeptical Economist”. This is the one of the best articles I have ever read on economics and illegal immigration.

It is no secret that the Bush administration is failing and failing badly. The woes of the administration are legion, Iraq, immigration, the economy, Katrina, health care, gasoline prices, etc. The impact on public opinion is profound. Bush is well on his way to being one of the least popular presidents in U.S. history. His current popularity rating of 31% may be a high water mark. The twenties and perhaps teens are not that far off. Increasingly he has lost, not just liberals and mainstream Americans, but conservatives as well. The key question is why? Why has this once promising administration gone downhill so far and so fast? Is it just bad luck or is their a deeper force at work? In my view, the ideology and practice of Open Borders has condemned this president to complete failure. Could the Bush administration turn itself around by changing its stance on immigration? Yes, but it is exceedingly unlikely to happen. Bush is doomed and may not finish his term in office.

do any thing, say anything, support anything just so you can hold the reins of power. your previous employer taught you well dickie boy

Bull!
While I CANNOT speak for anyone else, as a LEGAL immigrant, I RESENT the notion that people like me who oppose amnesty are anti-immigrant. I am simply anti-ILLEGAL immigration. If we are NOT going to enforce our immigration laws, then let's make it fair: let's remove the laws from the books and inform the world that EVERYONE is welcomed -- NOT just those from countries that border the USA, which geographical location make it EASIER for them to swim or trek to here!

http://osi-speaks.blogspot.com/2007/05/whats-wrong-with-congress-immigration.html#links

Take a flying leap Morris...
NO, NO, NO......ENFORCE THE LAWS! NO MORE LIES! We are mad as hell as we aren't going to take it anymore!!

Pulleze!
Does anyone listen to Morris anymore? His opinion and analysis on most anything is lame and illogical to be kind.

What planet did you come from?
Dick:

What planet did you just fly in from? Any Republican Senator or Representative voting for this bill will have an impossible time ever getting re-elected. America is mad, Republicans are mad, and the members of Congress are clueless!

You make a valid point about the Immigrants not voting for the Republicans, but they will not vote for them anyway. They are like sheep that believe any stupid thing the Dem.'s can lie about. All the Dem.'s have to do is to tell them they are going to throw out some more welfare scraps and they jump on the bandwagon.

Good point Dick in this column. I bet you will laugh all the way to the Dem. convention that you convinced some of the stupid Republicans that they should support the Immigration Bill by using reverse psychology.

RR

Lest we forget.
Dick Morris was an influential member of the Clinton administration. He is a Democrat. He still praises Bill Clinton with regularity. The fact that he hates Hillary doesn't change who or what he is.

This piece of garbage article clearly shows where he is coming from. It also shows that Town Hall is not the conservative site it appeared to be at first glance. Apparently, Town Hall is now "fair and balanced".

Dick Morris is mistaken
Let's be honest... if we can put a man on the moon and if Germany had no problem with the logistics of moving 6 million people then it would be a breeze for the USA to seize a chunk of Mexico and have our trains, buses, and aircraft running 24/7 to deport the illegal aliens.

Time to get mean. They can't have our tax money, wreck our jobs, and change the nation.

Did Dick Morris Have A Hooker Write This
Maybe this was phoned in from a rehab clinic?

This without a doubt the type of garbage that caused me to leave the Republican Party and demonstrates just how out of touch the party elite (or in Dick's case the wanna-be elite) with the sensibilities of the average American.

Sorry Dick, but you bastards can't have my country just yet!

Besides, what makes anybody think that Mexican illegals will make any better political choices up here than they did when they were in Mexico? Anyone with the common sense that God gave a gnat can see what a wreck that country is today.

No thank you Dick, now get out of the way!

Irish Catholics
Dick,
I hear what you are saying; but in my heart I feel that Irish Catholics and Latino Catholics are somehow fundamentally different as groups. Maybe it is the work ethic of the Irish European and a what seems to be a predisposition to poverty in the South American Latino as a group; I may be being a bit racist here, I hope I am not. The Mexicans have recently defied the Pope on abortion in Mexico, I understand. I see a lefward lean on many fronts. That notwithstandig, yes, we need to maintain and retain the conservative element of the Latino community.

Dick What Are you Talking About
Dick,

I have to disagree with you on this one. The republicans don't even get the hispanic vote in the first place and you say that hispanics are 13% of the population that's not a large number considering we have 300 million people in the US. There are only 41.3 million (US Census) in the US and 1/2 are illegal they can't VOTE. The best thing the Republicans can do is vote against the bill and get their base back.

What a shame
What a shame
