Poll
Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

The aborted terror plot to kill American soldiers at Fort Dix in New Jersey reminds us all of the imminent threat of attack in today’s dangerous world. It will remind Republican primary voters that terrorism, and our response to it, is still the issue of the day.

After the Republican presidential debate, Rudy Giuliani was clearly on the defensive, trying to compensate for his pathetic “that would be OK” answer to questions about the possible overruling of Roe v. Wade. His passivity and seeming acquiescence in either a pro-life or pro-choice outcome appeased none of the partisans on either side of the abortion issue. When he finally settled on a concise and forceful restatement of his basic pro-choice principles, he stood out in stark contrast to the other nine pro-life candidates.

But after Fort Dix, the momentum is once again going to shift. Americans realize the narrow escape they have had and understand the importance of having a proven and tested anti-terror leader, as their candidate in the November, 2008 elections.

Rudy’s advantage will be further reinforced by Hillary’s upward movement in the polls. After three months of going down in the polls, she has suddenly reversed field and gained decisively on Obama and Edwards. The closer Hillary gets to the Democratic nomination, the more decisive Rudy’s claim on the GOP nod becomes since he may be the only candidate who can stop Hillary from winning.

Hillary’s surge after the debate is likely due to what she once described as “the talking dog syndrome.” In her own words, in her book Living History, she writes:

“Some people are still amazed that any woman (this includes Governors’ wives, corporate CEOs, sports stars and rock singers) can hold her own under pressure and be articulate and knowledgeable. The dog can talk! In fact, it’s often an advantage if people you hope to persuade underestimate you at first.”

Later in her book, recounting her testimony for health care reform before a Congressional committee, she attributes many of the accolades that greeted her performance as “just the latest example of ‘the talking dog syndrome’ which I had learned about as first lady of Arkansas.” She goes on to quote Dr. Samuel Johnson’s biographer, Boswell, saying “Sir, a woman preaching is like a dog’s walking on its hind legs. It is not done well; but you are surprised to find it done at all.”

Now the “talking dog syndrome” is working to her advantage on a national stage.

Standing up there with five business suits, Hillary’s competent, capable, articulate, and knowledgeable performance impressed many voters who had not seen her in such a long form program before. The debate came at a time when the importance of having a pro-choice woman as their nominee was underscored to feminist Democrats by the Supreme Court decision upholding a ban on partial birth abortion. Together with a strong antiwar statement late last week, Hillary harvested a big gain in the polls.

All of these developments give Rudy Giuliani a shot in the arm. His focus on security issues, bolstered by his record at reducing crime in New York, makes him the natural beneficiary.

Giuliani’s political fortunes will fluctuate in direct relation to American perceptions of the dangers posed by terrorism. When we relax, Rudy will slip. When we are reminded of the reality we face, he will rise. Like Bush in 2004, terrorism is his issue and the greater our sense of threat, the more we will turn to him.

But when relaxed, Republican primary voters will return to the social themes that auger ill for Rudy. His “that would be OK” answer in the debate was ridiculously passive. His vigorous defense of the pro-choice position was courageous but there is no way the issue will help him win.

Want to know who will win the Republican nomination? Tell us which issue will be paramount and we’ll tell you!

Ron "cut and run" Paul is a loser...
Ron "cut and run" Paul is a worthless pile, he has zero chance of getting elected because he's weak on defense and completely ignorant about the war on terror, like his whack-job supporters. Anyone who thinks he has a chance is deluded no matter how often they spam his desperate crap.

I agree, Hillary is way overrated. I think the GOP could win even if they put up a guy who makes up words and can't string 2 sentences together coherently. Of course, Bush can't run again. They will not win without a conservative candidate, a real one this time. Won't get fooled again.

IF the VOTERS all VOTE:
Respectfully

I do NOT agree with Dick MORRIS who was certain that Bush would Lose in 2004:

Frankly, no matter who the GOP candidate is even with the Iraq war debate, the majority of the voters will NOT VOTE FOR HILLARY;

UNLESS the DEM congress approval ratings improve:
22% or even 30 something approval rating for DEM controlled congress cannot be good for HILLARY:

PELOSI, REID, et al who have achieved NOTHING but created MORE psycho hype will drag down
Hillary:

THOSE with high hopes for Obama may just throw in the towel. THEY are expending incredible amounts of energy to get him on the ticket that they may NOT turn and support the vicious evil
Hillary:

A little encouragement

Ron Paul Web Traffic

RLC Member Phil Pepin noticed that web traffic to the Ron Paul site tripled after the debate, while visits to other GOP candidate sites dropped precipitously. Although the Paul site has only been operational since March, the recent volume closely approaches the highest visit counts to the Giuliani and McCain webisites and is currently five times higher than the major candidates.

Press Release

Ron Paul Builds Momentum

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

May 8, 2007

ARLINGTON, VA – Congressman Ron Paul's support has soared since the first Republican presidential debate. Conservative commentator John McLaughlin, host of “The McLaughlin Group," cited Ron Paul as having given "the best performance of the debate." In fact, the Paul campaign's apparent strength has many other pundits scrambling to explain it. Paul campaign officials offer the following examples of the candidate's rising success.

Since the debate on May 3, Ron Paul:

* Handily won two post-debate polls posted by event sponsor MSNBC
* Placed a close third (18%) in a post-debate poll on the conservative Drudge Report
* Won an ABCNews.com online debate poll with 84%
* Won a C-SPAN online GOP candidate poll with 69%
* Became the third most-mentioned person in the blogosphere, beating out Paris Hilton, according to the reputable Technorati.com
* Produced a YouTube.com video that was ranked the 8th most popular overall video, and the most-viewed political video
* Was featured, by popular demand, on the front of Digg.com
* Generated so many bulletin posts on MySpace.com that the site owner News Corp. blocked all additional posts about Dr. Paul
* Became a "most searched" term on Google and Yahoo!
* Saw a quadrupling of daily visitors to RonPaul2008.com

"These figures speak for themselves," said campaign chairman Kent Snyder. "Ron Paul has quickly become a strong contender for the GOP nomination because of his powerful message of freedom and limited government."

Nam65-66
I've listed several sites that you can go read his articles and speeches. He's probably written and spoken more than most any congressman up there. He's been trying like ever lovin' heck to save this country, for many years. It's not like he's some kind of no name, hick. He's on several powerful commissions and is the ranking Republican on at least one.

See, my mother used to talk about him when I was a kid and I've been following him for well over 20 years. I've never in my lifetime seen or met a more principled man, or one I think of more highly. You have to understand, Nam, I came from a family where we had the Star Spangled Banner played at my mother's funeral and yes, everyone stood and had their hand over their heart. So, you see, I come from a long line of people who love this country.

I know there's a lot of people that haven't heard of him and the MSM is trying to keep it that way. They're literally attempting a complete news blackout on him. It's unbelievable. I realize that we have to figure out a way to get his message out there and a LOT of people are trying to do just that. This is a true grassroots effort, Nam.

I am more than confident if we can get his message out there that he will win. You can go to "meetup" on his campaign web site and find others in your area who support him. These grassroots groups are forming all over the country to work together to collaborate on how to get this man heard. Heck, you can even request that he come to your town to speak.

Actually, this reminds me a lot of the Barry Goldwater campaign. I was a little fart and my mother had me walking door-to-door handing out literature on him. I still have a couple of those campaign buttons around here somewhere.

Here's something for you:

NEVER SAY DIE, NAM! Let's get out there and help him.

No Liberty,I don't see it differently...
...but the only look I got at Ron Paul was at the debate.Same with Duncan Hunter. These two guys talk like you and I would talk, but we are political junkies. The rank and file Americans are not,and they have never heard of these two congressmen. The only time I ever saw them was at the debate and I had heard of both of them on this site and others. They appear no where else except in the debates and you are dreaming if you think either are going to be pulled out of the ranks by popular demand.I'll vote for Paul. You have already told me that he will be on the primary ballot here in New York and he'll get my vote, but I have no hope that he will go anywhere.I'll vote for him if for no other reason than to send a message to the Republican party in New York.

Rudy G.
Rudy was interviewed by Chris Wallace and when asked about gun control, Rudy answered that he lowered the crime rate in NY City.

Apparently, Rudy thinks that by disarming law- abiding citizens, the criminals will do less crime.

Excuse me, but somehow that doesn't compute. Maybe I'm not as enlightened as the liberals or the RINO's, but shouldn't we be taking guns from CRIMINALS instead of law-abiding citizens?

Bush OKs Integration with the EU???

Bush OKs 'integration' with European Union
Congress never asked about new obligation

Nam65-66
Well, Nam, if they aren't, they should be. Ron Paul is the only candidate talking about the Founders' intent of the Constitution and how we've badly overstepped its bounds, the soundness of our dollar, how very much we've strayed from our once conservative position on foreign policy, the move to integrate the U.S., Canada and Mexico, and the proper role of government.

He speaks of the very traditional conservative principles for which all real conservatives used to stand. More than that, most Americans did too. Remember the old adage about getting government out of our lives? How about personal responsibility and individual liberty?

Who else do you see talking about these issues? Dr. Paul not only talks, his extensive voting history shows that he walks his principles also.

Remember what conservatism was all about? This is what I recall.

- limited constitutional government
- personal privacy
- personal responsibility
- strong national defense
- fiscally responsible government
- individual liberty

Do you see it differently?

Inappropriate glee and bad analysis . .
Morris comes across as almost giddy about the aborted attack on Fort Dix because, he perceives, it helps Rudy--who obviously is Morris' dog in this fight. But Morris is wrong. Rudy showed himself for what he is during the first repub debate: an ex big-city mayor who is in over his head. Add in his morally challenged life style and famous meannness--both of which will come through loud and clear as the campaign proceeds--and he's toast.

Worse yet, again because he perceives that it helps Rudy, Morris pays a back-handed compliment to Sen. Clinton. Yes, he must concede, despite his recent predictions otherwise, Sen. Clinton is riding high in all polls against all opponents because she appears to have done well in the Democratic debate. But not to worry--that's only because of the "talking dog" syndrome. What blather. Fact is, Sen. Clinton is currently riding high because she is outperforming the other candidates. And barring some major change in the dynamics of the race--which, at this early stage, is certainly a possibility--that dog may talk her way all the way to the White House. Of course, if that happens, Morris will simply write how he knew all along that that would happen.

Liberalgoodman, the ACLU
will probably go after the informant, you know she was after all a "true American citizen", they will say she was "profiling", that is the keyword they always like to throw out there.
AND for any state to allow driving violations by ILLEGAL ALIENS 50 or more times is outrageous!
Don't worry, we will be hit again, there is NO way it won't happen what with our porous borders, and the visa overstayers. Then the handwringers who are ALL FOR allowing law breakers to keep on keeping on!

Rudy may be losing his 9-11 Hero status.

This is one of the funniest...
...threads I have read on Townhall!Sam and Davy Rockett have really outdone themselves!Did you two guys collude on this?

Look, whenever someone starts off a post that says "The American people will(or will not)accept (or support) a man who..." blah blah blah! The first thing I do is laugh out loud! You guys appoint yourselves as the spokespersons for THE AMERICAN PEOPLE!Did you interview ALL the American people? Look,if you get your information from looking in the mirrow every morning, just say YOU believe so and so.Ok?

I do not plan on voting for Rudy in the primaries or the general election, but I don't fool myself in thinking that "the American people" think just like me.Can't you guys just give us YOUR opinion and the reasons you arrived at it without dragging the "American people" into it? And if either one of you think that the "American people" are just dying to nominate Ron Paul, then I think you need serious help.

The guy in my mirrow this morning said that what the "American people" want is Nam65-66 as president!!! He has never had an opinion that I disagreed with!!!

Step aside Mr. Morris
This is the anthem I hope America will sing after Nov 2008.

To the tune of "Video killed the Radio Star."

Internet killed the lying liberal TV media star.
Internet killed the lying liberal TV media star.

The American people are smarter than the liberal TV media by far.
In their minds and in their hearts, they saw through lies of the lying liberal TV media star.

Can't wait!

The truth will set us free.

davy c rockett
Wow. That's scary. Encouraging neighbors to turn in their fellow Americans who believe the public servants in our government have overstepped their Constitutional bounds.

Heck, that would be every Barry Goldwater conservative out there. Not to mention nearly every Libertarian.

I hope people can see what is happening.

liberalgoodman
" It was the FBI informant who got them guns. Without the informant, they would have been absolutely nowhere."

Yes, I find it interesting on how many occasions this has been the case.

liberalgoodman
Your right in that the average citizen is smarter and keeps us safer than politicians or any policy they can imagine up.

However, seeing how Fort Dix Six were immigrants and some of them in the country illegally, does make me wonder just how stupid most of what politicians on both sides of the aisle since 9/11 have enacted isn't the most commonsense way of fighting terror at home or abroad.

No danger
The Fort Dix plot shows how safe we are. It was the FBI informant who got them guns. Without the informant, they would have been absolutely nowhere.

Also, notice that their "terror cell" was not "foiled" by any of the illegal Patriot Act activities. It was a tip from a store clerk. Nothing Bush or Giuliani have done make us safer.

HUNTER 2008

Republican voters still get to decide who their nominee will be. Money only buys elections when people act like sheep. If 80% of Republicans are indeed seeking a conservative, we can nominate one. We can nominate Duncan Hunter. The money players won't like it and are trying to convince us only Rudy, Romney, or McCain can win. Hogwash. 49% of people will never vote for Hillary. Only 60% voted last time and turnout was the difference. My belief is Rudy would push turnout down. There might even be a third party, splitting the vote. Give Americans a chance to vote for a candidate who WILL secure the border and watch what happens to turnout. Americans want their government to fulfill it's most basic responsibility.

The primary responsibility of the U.S. government is to protect the territorial integrity and people of this country. They have completely abdicated this responsibility. Both parties have been complicit in this. We are being told it is not possible to control our borders, enforce our laws, and thereby control our destiny as a nation. Hogwash. We are being sold out by corporations intent on importing workers for jobs that can't be exported with the taxpayers paying the true costs, financial and human. If we act like sheep and don't stop the inundation across our borders, we will lose our country without a bleat.

Homeland TYRANNY Alert!!!! - PA website
The Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency in partnership with the Pennsylvania Department of Health as a Crime Prevention & Safety Initiative's has similiar views on who is a Domestic Terrorist.

http://www.pa-aware.org/who-are-terrorists/domestic-5.asp

Alabama site has apparantly taken down their pages on their views now. Hmmm.

My quick thought
The only thing that comes to my mind about Rudy and terrorism is that he was savvy enough to get recovery started without either the feds or the state. Maybe he should run for the Mayor of New Orleans.

Homeland TYRANNY Alert!!!!
Check out this article that is going around the net.
The Alabama Department of Homeland Security (ALDHS), established in June of 2003, has recently constructed a website that defines Domestic Terrorists as those who oppose gun control and a strong federal government.

Top Three Republican Candidates
I watched McCain equivocate up a storm this morning on 'Meet the Press.' Romney did likewise this evening on 60 minutes. Giulliani has been doing it all along. They used to believe this way, but, all of a sudden, they've changed their minds. Go figure.

These three guys are going to say whatever it takes to appeal to the Republican party base. They are nothing but a bunch unprincipled pragmatists--their records prove it--trying to look "reasonable." If you're interested in getting a straight answer out of one of them about exactly how they plan to implement any of their ideas, you can forget about it--it will never happen.

Hopefully--and we can hope!--Republicans will see through the facade and reject these shallow figures for a candidate who actually has a plan to do something about our problems, and the proven resolve to implement it. That candidate would be Ron Paul. I predict he will again show up the "three stooges" in this weeks debate.

3 of these guys were illegal
3 of these guys were illegal immigrants and a few were from places where we were nation building under Clinton.

If anything it just shows the American voters that are home borders are not secure, yet "we gotta support the Iraqis" or were doomed.

You think we might be a little doomed if we don't secure our borders at home and do something about illegal immigration.

Hmmm, Rudy don't think so. Rudy don't play that game.

Spin it, Spinmeisters Morris and McGann
Reading between the lines...

Isn't it funny how these guys are using this foiled plot to try and boost Rudy into the front of the pack again, after a slamming in the first debate.
It's sad. They would probably even use a unfoiled plot or god forbid another tragedy to exploit, to get their man back on top.

In the second debate I can guarrantee they will stay away from abortion, and have a over emphasis on the WOT.

Politicians and spinmeisters, the scum of the earth and it shows. Your not foolin me, I see through your craftiness.

Giuliani's stance
of aggressively pursuing the GWOT is shared by
every Repub candidate except Ron Paul. Why not
support other candidates who share conservative
concerns other than national security?

Rudy's the worst of the viable candidates. IMO,
he should get out of the way so real conserva-
tives (like Duncan Hunter,e.g.) could get more
air time.

Pulleeze!
Dick Morris is in the bag for Giuliani. Giuliani didn't do anything on 9/11 that any other elected mayor of New York would have done and now he is an expert on terror.
He reminds me of that guy in Italy years ago that made the trains run on time. Nominate him and conservatives sit on their hands come November.

No Border Security/No Homeland Security
Rudy proposes to make citizens of illegal aliens like these guys from New Jersey. He does not want to enforce the immigration laws. He wants to change them. We tried that in 1986, we made citizens of some of the people who tried to blow up the WTC in 1993.

Mr. Morris
GIVE IT UP!!!!!! We do not want the bald Hillary!!
