Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

The past few years have seen a concerted international PR campaign to promote Dubai as a tolerant new Mecca of Middle East moderation and amazing economic growth.

And it's working. Corporate giant Halliburton is moving its headquarters there; the famed Louvre is opening a branch in the emirate. Tourists are flocking to Dubai's luxury hotels.

But don't be fooled. Dubai, which is one of the seven princedoms of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), is anything but tolerant and progressive.

To put it bluntly: They don't like Jews.

In fact, Dubai, like the rest of the UAE, is blatantly anti-Semitic. It bars all Israeli citizens from ever setting foot in the country. People from other nations whose passport have stamps indicating they've even visited Israel must notify Dubai immigration authorities of the stamp before entering.

Dubai is also actively involved in the Arab boycott of Israel: It bans all products made in Israel and even ones with parts made in Israel.

But the emir of Dubai, Sheik Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, understands the value of using prominent Americans to legitimize his country and burnish its image in the American media.

That's why former Presidents George H.W. Bush and Bill Clinton have been the objects of Dubai largesse. Their Dubai friends have given millions to each of their presidential libraries. And Bill Clinton has raked in more than $1 million for speeches he's given in Dubai and the UAE.

Dubai's PR machine went into high gear after 9/11 - in part to distract attention from the extensive use the terrorists made of the emirate. More than half of the hijackers traveled to the United States via Dubai. The 9/11 Commission noted that $234,500 of the $300,000 wired to the hijackers and plot leaders in America came via Dubai banks.

Several months after 9/11, Dubai's newest best friend began his public association with the country. In January 2002, Bill Clinton gave his first Dubai speech (for $300,000). He' been legitimizing the country ever since.

Clinton was the rainmaker who introduced the emir to his friend and employer, Ron Berkle, the owner of Yucaipa companies and a major fund-raiser for Bill and Hillary.

Last year, Yucaipa and the emir formed a new company, DIGL, for their joint ventures. So Bill Clinton is now an adviser and member of the board of directors of a company that is in partnership with the anti-Israeli government of Dubai.

The Clintons won't reveal how much the former president pocketed for setting up this deal, except to report on Hillary's Senate disclosure form: "more than $1,000."

A lot more. According to San Francisco Examiner columnist P.J. Corkery, Clinton makes $10 million a year from Yucaipa.

Bill isn't alone in legitimizing Dubai. Other Clinton pals - including disgraced former National Security Adviser Sandy Berger, ex-Secretary of State Madeline Albright and Al and Tipper Gore - have attended highly publicized events there.

So have some Republicans - including former Bush Sr. Chief of Staff John Sununu, presidential brother Neal Bush and Rudy Guiliani.

Republican ex-Sen. Bob Dole and Democratic ex-Rep. Tom Downey lobby for Dubai; so does The Glover Park Group, home of Hillary Clinton spokesman Howard Wolfson and former President Clinton press secretary Joe Lockhart.

Major U.S. business leaders populate the many conferences sponsored by Dubai and its industries.

All of this helps legitimize Dubai. And no one mentions the problem with Israel.

Bill Clinton even created a Dubai Scholars Program at the American University in Dubai under the sponsorship of the William Jefferson Clinton Foundation. Laura Tyson, Clinton's chairman of the Council of Economic Advisers, created a similar Dubai study program at the University of London.

But not everyone is blind.

Last month, the University of Connecticut correctly abandoned plans to open up a campus in Dubai after serious complaints about Dubai's state-imposed discrimination of people based on their national origin and religion and its documented violations of human rights. (For example, Human Rights Watch has said Dubai abuses tens of thousands of migrant workers from India and Pakistan.)

The Clinton Foundation certainly wouldn't sponsor a program in America that banned Israeli students. It shouldn't sponsor one in Dubai, either.

It's time to stop legitimizing an anti-Semitic state.

my 2 cents
"It's time to stop legitimizing an anti-Semitic state."

Strong words indeed and words with which I agree.

Will anyone do anything?

I doubt it.

In fact the authors can probably count on hearing from the folks at C.A.I.R. (from their Nancy Pelosi furnished room in the Capitol) soon.

Character and Principles
Whether it is issues such as these or the companies who continue to due business with Iran and other such countries, there is only one cure - character.
No law will ever stop it, nor is there enough light to shine on the many examples.
People of character and principle do not make their fortune and fame by violating basic principles of right and wrong.

Nothing said here about current PresBush
and any Dubai connection, but we know it is there

Gee Dick (which side are you on) Morris.
From the article: "To put it bluntly: They don't like Jews.

In fact, Dubai, like the rest of the UAE, is blatantly anti-Semitic.

Clinton was the rainmaker who introduced the emir to his friend and employer, Ron Berkle, the owner of Yucaipa companies and a major fund-raiser for Bill and Hillary.

Ron Berkle, Sandy Berger and Madeline Albright are Jewish...but then again facts never seem to dissuade you from ridiculous arguments...

hypocrisy and lies of the neocons.
So because they bar israelis (NOT Jews) from entering Dubai, they are not progressive? how shallow and hyopcritical that is.

The ban of the Israelis from entering Dubai is POLITICAL not religious. They have nothing against Jews of other countries.

BTW, all Muslim countries (not only Dubai) except for those have peace treaties with Israel, DO NOT allow Israelis into their countries, yet they allow Jews from other countries in.

The Israelis are not to be trusted anywhere. They were cought spying in the US, Jordan and many other countries.

Another neocon's article sprung from hatred and islamophobia. Gosh i cant stand the necons.

God bless Jimmy Carter.

Anti-semitism
has roots that extend back before Marx, so it's
clearly false to claim that it's a "reaction to
the Jewish alignment with communism" as Warrior
states above.

Also on the subject of anti-semitism: am I the
only person who's tired of seeing the overused
political pejorative "neocon" standing in for
"Jew"?

bullgod
You're not the only person. I'm disgusted by the dressed up anti-semitism of using "neocon" as a bad word.

Warrior's argument is internally inconsistent anyway. If the basis for hatred is communism, then there's no reason to single out Jewish communists. Who cares if they're Jewish? If that's not the point, then stop singling out Jews.

Faust would be proud.
Loyalty to a noble cause is apparently only for infantry grunts facing hostile fire from Muslim fanatics.

Three thousand plus dead due to the aforementioned Muslims financed by Dubai banks and our presidents (and companies) are raking in some hefty cash from said banks. I expect this from Clinton and cronies because they commonly reject character and virtue, but Republicans are also on board this money train.

Israel is our only true ally in the middle east, but they are slapped by our money-grubbing politicos who are bought and paid for by the same people who want us dead.

The next time one reads of a soldier or Marine taking a bullet in combat, or when another memorial service is held for the 3,000 dead from 9/11, think of our Dubai-owned American political prostitutes. Unlike the grunt, loyalty, respect and commitment goes just so far.

Semite means descendant of Shem..
one of Noah's sons. Both Jews and Arabs are supposed to be Semites. They can both hate each other, but technically neither can be correctly called anti-Semitic.

my 2 cents
One of the more recent MEMRI posts is entitled "Mama killed 5 Jews and she is in paradise."

I know it sounds like a Palestinian C&W tune but it's there.

Uncle Max:
I read that too. Amazing. Says something about
the enemy we're facing.

bullgod
There are some truly amazing articles at that site and I think that anyone who wants to have a clue as to what they are thinking, if that's what you call it, should check there daily.

Here's one from memory - SD #388 June 2002 - Why We Fight America - Al Q'Aida Spokesman Explains 9/11 and Declares Intention to Kill 4,000,000 Americans With Weapons of Mass Destruction. Note the date - 9 months before the allied invasion.

In May of 06 about a month before starting the summer war Hezbollah boss Nasrallah made a speech ON TV in which he said among other things - "our strength is the willingness to sacrifice our blood and children."

Clerics go on TV to incite children to maryrdom.

What kind of "faith" would encourage children to do that? If they don't care about slaughtering their own children - in fact they seem to be proud ot it - why would they care about ours?

And they are constantly railing about how Jews are descended from apes, pigs and other animals - this is according to the koran - their "holy book".

"The enemy we're facing".

That's for sure. Now if the dems would just wake up to that fact.

Michael Moore has been quoted as saying "There is no terrorist threat". And at the dems convention in Boston in '04 he was a prominent guest. Wow.

This is where the phrase Lenin used - "useful idiots" comes into play.

Over and over and over and over .....

NeoCan two-faced hypcrisy
I have been to Dubai many times, it's actually one of my favourite cities. And I have lived (not visited, lived), in other middle-eastern countries.
So let's leave Clinton to the side for the moment and talk about the Bush family and their support for religious freedom in the area.

Bush Sr. and Jr., Saudi and the Bin Laden family, for one. There are 6 MILLION non-Muslim workers in Saudi and not one single Church, Temple or Synagogue... sorry Jews are forbidden to set foot in the country so of course there cannot be a synagogue. Hey Bush, why not a little thumb-screwing with your friends to get some religious freedom there.

Yemen for another, (a friend of Bush Jr. in his WOT). Not a single Christian church in the capital. The Christians, mostly from Ethiopia, Eritrea and Somalia meet secretly in cellars, changing their place of service weekly. They are harassed, arrested and spied upon by the PSO (secret police). Non-Muslims, by the way, are regarded as so unclean they are not even allowed to set foot in the cemeteries. A country where non-veiled African Christian women were spat at on the street and called whores.

Back to Dubai.
Churches are listed at:
http://www.godubai.com/citylife/ls2.asp?article_id=2006/GTY%23286
Temples are listed at:
http://www.shaivam.org/siddhanta/toi_dubai.htm

By the way, during Ramadan the Mosques give lectures on Islam for non-muslims.

So you NeoCons, get your own two-faced house in order.

And a quote for those who think all Muslims belong to Al Qiada, if your bias allows you time to read it, which, for many I doubt: ( http://www.godubai.com/citylife/ls2.asp?article_id=2006/GTY%23286 )

"Neither are their judges to be removed from their jobs nor their monks from their monasteries no one is to destroy a house of their religion, to damage it, or to carry anything from it to the Muslims houses.

Should anyone take any of these, he would spoil God's covenant and disobey His Prophet. Verily, they are my allies and have my secure charter against all that they hate.

No one is to force them to travel or to oblige them to fight. The Muslims are to fight for them. If a Christian woman is married to a Muslim, it is not to take place without her approval. She is not to be prevented from visiting her church to pray.

Their churches are to be respected. They are neither to be prevented from repairing them nor the sacredness of their covenants. No one of the nation (Muslims) is to disobey the covenant till the last day (end of the world).

Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) set wonderful examples for us to follow. He stood up when funeral procession of a Jew passed. When asked by companions Why he stood up for a Jews funeral? Prophet (PBUH) replied, all human are equal in nature and it is our duty to pay respect to the departed soul".

So get your fingers out of their dark place and SUPPORT those Muslim countries that are TRYING to battle the tide of Muslim Fanaticism instead of just blindly and ignorantly kicking any Muslim country just to suit your own biased political aganda.

The very expression Mecca of
The expression Mecca of anything smacks of intolerance as Mecca does not allow anyone to visit there except Muslims at the price of your life. And Saudi Arabia does not permit people to carry bibles or wear crosses in their country. The sad thing is that Europe has bought into the Idea of Israel being the bad guy in the Middle East which is the big lie of the Arab Nations who cover up all their failure and inadequacies by blaming everything on Zionism.

Jewish communists
Yes many secular Jews participated in the Bolshevik revolution and were party members in the Soviet Union. However it was secular and religious Jews that were also at the for front of the various dissident movements in the Soviet Union later, this of course was the reason that Stalin ended up purging Jews from the government and then from the Soviet Union period. So trying to say that it is “all political” or has anything to do with communism is laughable. While some people might use it as an excuse I believe the term would be “red herring”.

Dubai
This should be continually talked about during Hillary's quest for the Presidency. Shame on Albright who ancestry contains Jews, persecuted by Hitler. Shame on former Pres. Bush!

Antsemitism = Response to Jewish Racism
Israel steals Arab land and gives it to Jews. Israel refuses to allow Arabs to return to their homes. Israel then complains that Arabs treat Israelis the same way, but without the theft. Boo Hoo. The root problem is not antisemitism. The problem is Jewish racism.

There is an old Polish adage: The Jew always shrieks with pain when he strikes you.

Dick, you are howling in agony. Let the Israelis clean up their racist act before they play cry baby over the responsee to their hatefulness. My bet is that if Israel granted justice to the Palestinians and allowed them back into their homes there would be no problem in Dubai.

Dubai anti Semite? Or just protectionist
Ron Berkle or Ron Burkle of Yucaipa CO is Jewish (I think), as well as Medeline Albright, and Sandy Berger and I don't think anybody can contest that both GW & HW Bush and Bill Clinton have been darlings of the Jewish community & huge supporters of Isreal.

If Dubai is buying Anti-Semitism they're doing a pretty crappy job throwing money at pro-isreal candidates & politicians.

Dubai
Initally, I also heard on the major media channels that Halliburton was moving its corporate headquarters to Dubai. Later, when I listened to CNBC they specifically mentined that it was only a branch that was being established in Dubai which has been dubbed "the Houston of the East." The corporate headquarters will remain in Houston.

Morris, Jews and Foreign Policy
Anti-Semitism is evil. Any sane person knows that. But, frankly, the question can't always be: is it good for the Jews? Just sometimes we have to ask: is it good for America? is it good for the world? is it good for peace? Etc.

Two or three facts stick out that will cause some readers to blow their tops.

(1) Jewish neocons were key people in pushing us into the foolish invasion of Iraq. I'm talking about Wolfowitz, Feith, Wurmser, Perle, Abrams and others. Now, if I were Jewish perhaps I would have favored the attack, also. After all, Saddam clearly aided Palestinians against Israel. But I'm not Jewish. I'm just a normal average Christian American. I want Israel to exist peacefully, but invading Iraq is no help toward that goal. What we achieved was a mess, thousands killed or maimed, alienating the rest of the world, huge, huge debt, etc. And Israel is at the top of the most-hated-country list. Let me add quickly lest I be accused of anti-Semitism (well, that will happen regardless), that many prominent Jews opposed the invasion. Unfortunately the ones who had the ear of the Administration were aggressive, miserable, conniving, stupid hawks. I hope that describes them adequately. And to think that Wolfowitz is now head of the World Bank. Shouldn't he be tried as a war criminal?

(2) Israel is a heavy burden on the USA. We've provided them over 100 billion, plus many, many other measure of support. This over-indulgence of America was the initial factor that eventually led to 9-11. What a heavy price we have paid - and still pay - for all-out support for Israel regardless. The reason? No love of Israel. But domestic politics. Jews give about 50% of all funds for political campaigns, and if you were to defy the AIPAC and allies you would likely be smeared beyond belief. Many questions. Just this one: "How does continual expansion of Israeli settlements on the west bank contribute to peace?" American policy should be pro-Israel, true - but ALSO genuinely pro-Palestinian. For years no politician could even mention a Palestinian state - remember Hillary some years ago? Israel must: (1) Leave the West Bank and Golen Heights entirely; if settlements remain, they must agree to be under Palestinian law. (2) Accept the Arab section of Jerusalem as the capital of Palestine; (3) Reimburse Palestinians for lands seized etc - Jews got billions from Germany etc for the Holocaust. Oh, and the Palestinians had nothing to do with the Holocaust though they have paid a steep price for it. Hamas, by the way, was encouraged by Israel at the outset to combat Arafat. Hamas won because Israeli occupation is humiliating, killing Palestinians, stealing more of their land, etc.

(3) I see Morris on O'Reilly and consider him a sleazy weasel indulging in gutter smearing. He is one of those Jews whose first concern seems to be Israel. As stated above, I understand why Jews take a particular interest in Israel, in light of their history, but US foreign policy cannot be always determined by Israeli desires and interests. Most American Jews realize that. They are patriotic Americans. It's the AIPAC-types that have caused us so many deaths and so much damage.

Much more to say. But it's late and time for bed. Meanwhile, think, read both sides (we seldom hear the Palestinian case), and smile.

bullgod
Am I the only person who is tired of people accusing others of anti-semitism when they dare point out the facts of any wrongdoing by someone who just so happens to be jewish?
