Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

What kind of president would Hillary Clinton be?

To grasp the essence of how her Administration would run aground, watch the way she's handling the Iraq War controversy right now.

She has painted herself into a corner with her bad judgment, tone deaf instincts, and stubbornness. Now she's squirming to find a way out – and looking bad in the process.

As she struggles to meld her conflicting past and present positions about her 2002 vote authorizing the Iraq war, she has become as convoluted as a pretzel.

At the same time, her style and mechanics are significantly improving. Hillary has settled on a novel, presidential-looking, and well-toned campaign vehicle: an "almost weekly" Internet video address to the nation via her web site HillaryClinton.com.

Between the chatty and overly contrived "talk on the couch" she used to announce her candidacy and her new, more formal format, one senses she has been busy getting the input of focus groups.

Her new format works. Hillary looks convincingly presidential against a backdrop of French doors that mirrors the Oval Office. She has found her groove.

But she still has problems. The juxtaposition of good advice and handling on the one hand, and flawed candidate instincts on the other, has always characterized Hillary's activities. Such dissonance in her performance continues to this day.

Hillary's problems today stem from her 2002 vote in favor of the Iraq war. Clearly, she cast it because, as a new Senator from New York, she saw Ground Zero from a front row seat.

Her constituents demanded action and she wanted to seem to be tough on terrorism.

Hillary also know that as a future woman presidential candidate, she needed to appear tough enough to be commander in chief. When no WMDs were found in Iraq after the U.S. invasion, Hillary still stood by her vote because she feared appearing inconsistent.

Now Hillary is a full-fledged presidential candidate and faces the dilemma of whether to apologize for her vote, as John Edwards did.

No doubt, Hillary remembers vividly how the label of "weak" and "flip flopper" dogged her husband. Bill Clinton challenged this labels by taking decisive actions in Bosnia and against the House Republican government shut down.

And there was John Kerry and his windsurf ad in the 2004 that characterized him.

Haunted by these memories, she has put a premium on never reversing field and refusing to say "I'm sorry."

Of course, she should have said she made a mistake. Everybody did. Voters would have taken her admission and not missed a beat.

We all felt there were WMDs in Iraq and nobody anticipated the blood letting that's happened there since. An admission of error by Hillary would have killed the issue.

Why didn't her advisors prevail on her to admit it?

Because they are scared to death of Hillary's fury, rage, tantrums, and, ultimately, of being exiled.

So Hillary refused to say "I'm sorry." As a result, she has brought herself no end of woe as she tries to appease the left.

Then the question arose of whether to cut off war funding. Again, Hillary refused to go that far.

Why? Because she felt that, as a woman with a reputedly anti-military past, she could not be accused of denuding our troops in the face of the enemy. Again her advisors likely found her convictions too entrenched to challenge them.

So now Hillary has to spin a position against the war that is meaningful but doesn't cut off funding. Now, Hillary has introduced a bill demanding a withdrawal beginning in 90 days and making it illegal to add more troops.

The bill will never pass. The 90-day clock will never make it out of the watch factory. But does this new formulation give her a place to stand in the current debate?

Not really. While she is willing to set a begin date for "redeployment," Hillary won't set an end date as Obama and Edwards have both done.

In the near future a defunding resolution will come to the Senate floor. When it does, and when she votes no, it will dominate the discussion among Democrats – despite Hillary's own proposals.

Hillary has also opened the door to massive criticism by embracing "engagement" and calling for a Mid-East regional conference – obviously including Iran – to settle the war.

These positions put her at odds with those who see a nuclear Iran as threatening Israel's and America's future and who demand tough economic and, if necessary, military action to stop it.

How can you boycott or bomb a country and then "engage" with them?

But the larger lesson is that Hillary has put herself in an impossible position by refusing to apologize and ruling out a funding cutoff.

Had she said, "I'm sorry" and then agreed to cut off funding (about the same thing as a mandatory troop ceiling), she would have coasted to the Democratic nomination.

But now she has laid out a rocky road for herself. And she has only her own bad instincts to blame.

All this begs the question of where is Bill?

He has better instincts and usually is the wiser, cooler head.

Hillary's jagged course suggests that either he is making one of his periodic visits to Hillary's doghouse or he isn't able to make her see common sense.

No WMDs ? Dick and Eileen...
You are as bad as a Liberal in saying no WMDs were found.

Lot of shell loaded with vx, sarin, mustard and blister agents were found. They were even reported on CNN. At what point did that type of ordinance become not a WMD?

No, Tanabear and Kimberly, they do not degrade enough to make them safe or even much less effective. Shells brought up from the ocean floor off the coast of New York and Maryland have been of sufficient strength to seriously injure and even kill. These shells were dumped over fifty years ago, Saddam's were quite a bit newer than that !

The Daily Pres in Virginia did a week long expose on these "degraded" chemical weapons. I would not wish anyone to be exposed to them, even the Enemy.

WMDs were found in numerous places in Iraq, maybe not in vast quantities, but that misses the point.

Saddam was not suppose to have any, he still had tons of them when we invaded. The lack of WMD argument is specious, and outright wrong.

The authors of this column should have attributed the statement concerning WMDs to the Media vice implying there was any truth in it.

Pappy
Wasn't the general consensus that these were left over from the first Gulf War? Even the Bush administration does not claim them as the WMDs that they warned about.

More Shrillary
Shrillary update in SC from Fox: Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Rodham Clinton said Monday that South Carolina should remove the Confederate flag from its Statehouse grounds, in part because the nation should unite under one banner while at war.

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,252842,00.html

This is the traitorous b*tch who just voted to NOT support the troops in Iraq. Now she is down here in SC telling the State what it should be doing. For those of you who are not familiar with this issue, a few years ago there was a big battle to remove the Confederate Battle Flag (not the Confederate national Flag) from the statehouse dome. This has been a source of contention with the NAACP for a few years. This fight actually cost a Republican governor the statehouse when he jumped on the bandwagon to remove it. Well a compromise was reached and the flag was brought down from the top of the statehouse to a pole on the statehouse grounds. Well the NAACP is still protesting and “officially” boycotting the state. (This is part of the NAACP’s nationwide effort to remove all vestiges of the old confederacy from the earth.)

In every national election any candidate that comes down is “invited” by the NAACP to comment on the flag. Most, with any since say nothing, those who don’t say it’s a state issue. A few open their ignorant mouth like Shrillary. She knows that she has lost this State anyway and the only thing it is good for is rolling out the black vote for her in the primary.

Notice that Obama said nothing about the flag when he was here, or if he did, it went unreported?

Hillary's apology
She doesn't dare start apologizing. If she once says "I'm sorry," she's going to be pressed to apologize for so many things she'll never have time to do anything else.

Hillary Clinton is the face of everybody's most hated elementary school teacher -- the pinch-faced old lady who hated children but who was forced to teach because opportunities to work for a living were limited for women of her generation and abilities. She may have taught her students what they needed to know, but we all suspected she kept a bottle of scotch in her desk drawer.

I've noticed too that Hilary is keeping her chin down as someone has pointed out that throwing her head back emphasizes her double chin and neck wattles. Look for some nip-tuck work before the convention.....

Good Advice
Yes Hitlary should keep her chin down because of the fight that's coming her way. Any good boxer knows to keep that chin down and protected, will she listen, probably not. She, remember, MAKES ALL THE DECISIONS. I wonder if that includes letting Bill into her bed. That makes for a funny picture, Bill standing there asking permission to come to bed!

Where are they?
I find it utterly amazing that all the moonbats always stay away from columns they cannot rebut...I am in a foul mood(no sleep) and would just love to scrreeeech right back at them...
So, who is for appeasement? Oh, can you say Hilary Clinton? And Bill appointed for stand-in senator-- over my dead body!

God spare us
from a Hillary presidency. Evil, lying, conniving b*tch.

And the Toe Sucker shills on ...
Toe-Sucker still writes about the recidivist, treasonous, lying, looting, thieving, predatory, co-serial-raping, Missus Cli'ton, as if that room-temperature-IQd psychopathology of scialism projecting manifestation of evil had ever even hinted at having the ability to "think" and/or to formulate "ideas."

Like her every-bit-as-psychopathological erstwhile "spouse," fat-hope's Billy-Bubba Blythe, Missus Cli'ton is little more than a lizard-brain-stemmed demonstration of the fact the power lust is a noxious weed that florishes only in the vacant lots of empty minds.

empty suits
I hope the people in this country will not be so partisan in '08 so as not to see clearly that these empty suits do not want what's best for our country. Just look at how hard Hillary has to work to maintain any kind of credibility. I'm not saying that America isn't ready for a woman or black president, but neither one of these two are remotely qualified to run our military, much less the rest of the country. I'm not crazy about any of the republican candidates, but if it's Guiliani vs. any dem I don't think the dems stand a chance.

crabby schoolgirl

AudiR10:

I am much amused by your characterization of Hillary as the frustrated schoolmarm with whisky hidden in the desk. I was fortunate enough never to have a crabby elementary schoolteacher, but I recognize the analogy. Perhaps you'd be amused by another one that Hillary brings to mind.

I went to college at UC Berkeley in the 1960's, when rebellion of various kinds was at its height. Hillary reminds me of the girls who were so jealous of the so-called privileges of their older brothers that they let their legs grow fuzzy and wore combat boots and army jackets to class (never going so far as to join the army, of course.)

Hillary's grating voice reminds me in particular of an angry feminist who made a speech in a lecture hall-sized biology class. This girl fumed that the Olympics were biased in favor of men; that the reason girls' performances lagged statistically had nothing to do with their being five inches shorter and 40 pounds lighter on average. It was all because of systematic discrimination.

I can't remember how she gained the floor or why nobody rose to rebut her. But it has stuck in my mind ever since how severely it limits a woman's credibility to sound shrill and angry in public. If I'd had the presence of mind at the time, I wish I'd pointed out that my credibility as a public speaker has always been limited by the fact that I sound like Walter Brennan.

This is something no he-man will ever admit, of course, but it's a big advantage for a man to have a basso profundo speaking voice if he craves credibility on matters of grave significance.

I've gotten old-fashioned in my old age -- one of the hidden blessings of the passage of time. One of the things I've come to believe is that sensible people use the assets they're stuck with to best advantage. Old Hillary is still trying to outboy the boys. Tut, tut. I don't expect Hillary to show up for her anti-war vote in her brother's fatigues, but she hasn't moved far enough from that mindset, I'm afraid.

There were WMD's
They were carted off to Syria in convoys manned by out of uniform Russian soldiers under the command of retired Russian Generals. Our administration knew all about it but for some unfathomable reason, Bush unwilling to antagonize Putin and the Russians, kept it hidden. There was an article in the Washington Times which the Bush Administration endeavored to suppress and downplay. There may have even been a nuclear laboratory which Syria may be using today.

neoCONS in sheep's clothing
reply to Gene Touchet--
Where did you get the idea that David Brooks is not a neoCON?!?! If you search his earlier columns, his sentiments become clear. He is simply like Perle, Wolfowitz, Kagan, Podhoretz, May, Gaffney, Krauthammer, Kristol, Wurmser, and others of their disingenuous ilk-- chagrined that many have studied what THEY OPENLY ADVOCATED well before 9/11 (PNAC) and figured out how they pulled it off by snookering the Bushies, and then America, with their ulterior agenda. Let some scream the oh-so-predictable, platitudinous red herring ad hominem calumny litany "moonbat," "anti-Semite," etc., but simply read what THEY wrote and said in speeches. check out the OFFICIAL W.H. advisory roles of the following when we got into this misbegotten, misguided and ill-fated quagmire: Libby, Perle, Wolfowitz, Wurmser, and Feith.

It is small consolation indeed, but at least neoCONism has been exposed for what it is, and what it hath tragically wrought. But one must be willing to study a bit carefully (none are so blind as they who will not see), because the progenitors and perpetrators artfully wrapped themselves in cloaks of fighting "the worldwide WOT" and "freeing the Iraqi people" and "establishing democracy that will be friendly to America" and "fighting the terrorists over there so we won't have to fight them here" and "getting rid of WMD's and potential nuclear threats."

Oh what a tangled web they weaved when at first they practiced to deceive...

Tomgee
I worked for a lawyer who used to be a Marine, and he told me the same thing: that if you can pitch your voice low, you don't have to speak as loudly to carry it across the room.

I actually sold this story to the Readers Digest Canada, but it does illustrate the point. I was on a WestJet flight to Vancouver and a very long line developed before one of the two johns available. Most of the people in line were Canadians so they just stood there. I am not Canadian so went to the head of the line, rapped sharply and said in that voice the Gunnery Sergeant, DI and Mom would know well, "Time's up! We got a line out here!" Out slouched a twenty-something with a makeup bag the size of a snowmobile -- who had spent the last 20 minutes re-doing her face in there! Someone in the line as I resumed my place asked respectfully, "Ma'am, were you in the Army?"

"Nah," I replied. "I'm from New York."

Clearly, Ms. Hillary is NOT from New York.

HILL AND BILL
White trash in the White House Part II.

Hillary has never shown common sense
why should she start now?

Every policy position she has ever offered when not concerned by her constituents has been a far-left liberal bromide based on the idea that utopia can be forced on us with enough social engineering by the government. There is no reason to believe that she has lost that instinct for sticking her nose into other people's business (while at the same time bristeling indignantly when anyone questions her own behavior).

More of what we don't want
"What kind of president would Hillary Clinton be?"
No need to watch how she’s handling the Iraq war controversy. She'll get around it somehow. It’s simple. Her presidency will NOT be a carbon copy of Bill's presidency; Bill's will be a carbon copy of HERS because HIS administration was driven by HER.
Look for lots of lesbian political appointees.
Look for lots of divisiveness – you haven't seen anything yet!
Isolationism and appeasement leading us into a much larger war.
Socialized medicine: no health coverage for men over 60 (men aren't her constituency); the unmarried teen girl who needs an abortion is.
An all out push for gay "marriage".

One poster on another site wrote: "It is the Democrats' fascination with death and communism that is the prime mover of such dementia."

Never saw it put any better.

Sedonaman
Your post reflects my own nightmare of what the Supreme Anointed One could accomplish with Executive Orders, and the abuse thereof.

I note most of the moonbats refuse to comment on Mr. Morris' column mostly because he has committed the most heinous crime imaginable from the Dems: apostasy.

Hillary a Mary Magdalen
Like the prostitute Mary Magdalen, Hillary is now sorry that she has sinned? But it seems that voting for the war, was not the only sin that she comitted. What a pitty! Someone shoud inform Hillary that Jesus is not around to forgive her.

Visceral!!
Sorry folks, I'm new to this site but my reaction to anything clinton is strictly on a visceral level. I find them totally repugnant, oh, heck, I just better shut up here. My blood pressure is up just thinking about her.

Nobody should apologize
I am no fan of Queen Hillary by a long, long shot, but if there was ever to be anything I would admire her for it would be for NOT apologizing about her vote. No WMD? Well of course not, Old Uncle Sadam only had a few freakin' months notice we were coming. I would have been suprised if we HAD found them.

No the only people Princess impresses with an apology are the moonbats.

Please, please, Dick

Dash42:
Thank you.

I forgot to include Affirmative Action in the list.

Bad judgment.....
Sure, she's made mistakes .....

She believed Dick Morris was on her side.
She believed Bill would be faithful.
She believed W would never lie about WMDs.

Turns out she was wrong on all three.

sedonaman
You're welcome...

Elisabeth: Does a Republican President (Bush) require Criminal court level proof of evidence? While a Democrat President (Clinton)only require civil court level of proof?

In both cases, the preponderance of the available data indicated that a) Saddam had WMD (which have been found); b) that his history indicated that he would use them on unprepared targets (Khurds, Iranians); c) that the height of irresponsibility would be to assume that he would not.

Of course, if we had a newsreporter speaking with Ahmajihadist while he detonated an IED targeted on a US military convoy while a Repub was in office you would state that it was 'staged' or 'manufactured'. If St. Bill or the Supreme Anointed One were in office I suspect you would be calling for his head.

Elisabeth,
You give us the tired old BL BS.

Um, the Democrats do not get their intelligence from the White House. Do they?

Democrats and Republicans in government both get their intelligence from the same place -- the intelligence agencies. And they draw their own conclusions.

Do President Bush and Darth Cheney edit the intelligence reports before they go to the bipartisan oversight committees? How are they supposed to have "lied?"

By the way, I don't expect you to actually answer me.

The fact is, Democrats voted to authorize the war because they wanted to POSTURE as being tough on terrorism. They lied about their true feelings, and voted to invade another country for political expediency. And now they need an excuse. The BL BS is the best they can do.

...

AudiR10, you cracked me up! If Hillary is the child-hating school marm, Bill was the PhysEd teacher -- and girls volleyball coach!

Yes Elisabeth, poor Hillary.
As you noted: "She believed Bill would be faithful."

Yes, we were ALL surprised that a dedicated husband like "'Ol DropTrou Bill" would be found to have been unfaithful to his loving wife. Again. And again. And again and again. Poor old naive Hillary. I'm sure that little girl had no idea what was going on.

It was almost as shocking for me to find out that Paris Hilton may have been, you know, "sleeping around."

I just hope those two kids have been able to work things out.

Apologize for what?
Why should HRC apoligize for her Iraq War vote?

She voted based on what she KNEW AT THE TIME.

Who on earth wouldn't do such-and-such differently if they knew the future at the point of decision?

I'm certainly not an HRC fan but I would have some respect for her if she'd stand up and defend her vote as such. Just because people think she's a witch doesn't mean she has a crystal ball.

She should know better than anyone that there's no appeasing the appeasment left.

Okay, for the sake of completeness...
Elisabeth, I'll respond to your first point as well.

"She believed Dick Morris was on her side."

Dick Morris is on the side of the Democrats. A LOT of Democrats don't like Hillary. They see the same things in her that everyone does.

But don't feel sorry for her. She is playing him more than the other way around. She is the only candidate the Democrats have that is still supporting the war. She's the closest thing the Democrats have to a candidate that supports our COUNTRY during a time of war.

Being attacked from the Left will only reinforce her public positioning as a Centrist.

By the time the nominations roll around, Democrats will realize that she is the only potentially electable candidate they have for a national ticket. She'll win the nomination in a walk.

But you don't have to worry. The whole "I'm a Centrist" thing is just positioning. She's a Socialist through and through. To her left are only people like the Unibomber, Al Gore, Putin and the Dear Leader.

No WMD's in Iraq?
Any country which had a 'device' which had actually killed several hundred thousand people would have demonstrated they indeed possessed a WMD - in Iraq's case, the WMD was named Saddam Hussein.

NO WMD? Remove thy head from rectal defilade and observe reality!

Is Hillary commiting Hari-Kerry?
It’s just so darn hard to unsay something that you have said before over and over. You can fool some liberals all of the time and all liberals most of the time, but Hillary is beginning to slip out of that comfy political space into the "You can't fool all the liberals all of the time". It’s a very uncomfy place to be.

Hillary is weaving one tangled web after another and she is starting to stumble over her past public pronouncements. Let's see did she vote for it before she voted against it, or against it before she voted for it. It is getting awfully difficult to follow. Even dedicated demos are getting sleepy. The words "Go ask Alice when she's ten feet tall" seem to make really good sense at the moment.

Who is the real Hillary?
More than 10 months will elapse before the actual election year will be upon us, yet the number of personalities displayed by Hillary Clinton already threatens to exceed the number of haristyles she sported during the time when the dark side was in ascendency-OOPS-I mean the (Bill) Clinton administration. Which of the several identities she has so far adopted in the campaign are we likely to see again, and which have been dropped because they failed to pass muster with her focus groups?

We have seen the "first-woman-to-run-for-president" Hillary. Thanks to the much needed history lesson her minions received from the conservative media, we probably won't see that one again. Then there was the "Mom" Hillary. I'm betting we'll see this one whenever it comes in handy. Ditto for the Oprah-esque "let's chat" Hillary so nauseatingly portrayed in her candidacy announcement. And then there was the "I'm an American first, and a Democrat second" Hillary who gave a cagey response to an interview question put forward by Greta van Susteren about cutting off funding for the Iraq operation. This identity will probably be trotted out if an international crisis arises (e.g., Iran nukes Israel) that calls for patriotism and bipartisanship and discarded again as soon as the national mood shifts. Most recently, of course, she has morphed into the shrieking "60s-anti-war-rally" Hillary who demands that the war be ended in 90 days or else she will end it immediately upon becoming president. (Who, exactly, is the target of this threat?) To add further confusion to the question of Hillary's true identity, the 60s throwback Hillary has been juxtaposed against the authoritative "Oval-Office" Hillary who speaks earnestly, in measured phrases and comforting intonations, about her commitment to progressive causes in her online speches.

How many more personalities will she reveal between now and November, 2008? And will we ever see who she really is?

Thanks to Dick Morris for providing the inspiration for much of my thinking. The reason that I enjoy his column and his television appearances is that he provides more insightful analysis of Clintonian behavior than any other commentator does.

One More Thing
Is it not at least possible that her own hubby will sabotage her campaign simply because he cannot stand having anyone other than himself in the spotlight?
