Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

Even before Barack Obama was inaugurated, the question of what to do with the bust of Winston Churchill on display in the Oval Office arose. The valuable bronze by Sir Jacob Epstein had been loaned by the British government to George W. Bush in mid-2001 -- before Sept. 11, contrary to recent reports -- and had gazed with weary wisdom over the Oval Office ever since. Not that Winnie was alone. Busts of Lincoln and Eisenhower rounded out the trio of wartime leaders President Bush had chosen to watch over him at work even when the nation was at peace.

The Lincoln bust remains in the Obama Oval Office. I haven't received definitive word on the fate of the Eisenhower bust, but I strongly suspect it's gone. So, definitely, is the Churchill bust, its unceremonial crating and return to the British Embassy generating a diplomatic flap and many mainly British news stories wondering, whither the "special relationship"?

There is some pathos to this reflexive plaint given that what makes this relationship special of late is the fact that the CIA considers the likeliest source of a terrorist atrocity against the United States to be British citizens traveling on the visa-waiver program -- British citizens of Pakistani descent, that is. Either way, the relationship is necessarily different when some potentially lethal percentage of the British citizenry is no longer what you could call on our side. Or should I say "our" side to denote the postmodern shambles of conceiving of sides, "ours" or "theirs"?

I don't mean to go abstruse on anyone, but there is a muddle here onto which the fate of the Churchill bronze shines a welcome if cauterizing beam. Indeed, packing up and returning Churchill to the British reveals more than the current state of U.S. ties with Britain. When President Obama declined the British offer to extend its loan, when President Obama indicated he wanted the bust out of the Oval Office, indeed, out of the White House, he sent a much more significant message. Namely, he demonstrated how completely our world has turned.

The London Telegraph attempted an explanation: "Churchill has less happy connotations for Mr. Obama than those American politicians who celebrate his wartime leadership. It was during Churchill's second premiership that Britain suppressed Kenya's Mau Mau rebellion. Among Kenyans allegedly tortured by the colonial regime included one Hussein Onyango Obama, the President's grandfather."

In other words, such family lore is supposed to render the British titan who roused the Free World against Nazi Germany and warned the Free World against the Communist U.S.S.R. as popular with the new president as Guantanamo Bay. For the record, though, the Mau Mau story is a historic impossibility, at least according to the known timeline of events. As noted by the blogger Papa Whiskey via the Jawa Report, Obama's grandfather was jailed and tortured between 1949 and 1951. That's the story according to his widow, Obama's "Granny Sarah." Of course, Granny Sarah is also a primary source of the claim that Obama was born in Kenya, so who really knows? Obama himself has offered conflicting accounts in both cases. In his memoir "Dreams of My Father," Obama describes his grandfather's detention as lasting "over six months" before he was found innocent (no mention of torture). Whatever the case, Churchill didn't become prime minister for the second time until the end of 1951. The Ma!

u Mau Rebellion didn't begin until the end of 1952, one year after Obama's grandfather's release.

It seems that what we are seeing in the return of the Churchill bust is less a personal vendetta against Churchill the man and more an open breach in the Western continuum out of which a new orientation toward the Third World will become increasingly apparent. Having achieved a Washington-like apotheosis in the American imagination, Churchill serves not only as the preeminent symbol of resolve, courage and faith against the enemies of Western civilization. He serves as a symbol of Western civilization, period. One of President Obama's first acts as president was to consign that symbol to a box and send it packing.

Somewhat complicating our understanding of the incident is the fact that even as George W. Bush may have retained the knickknacks of that same civilization, the 43rd president did more to break with it maybe than any previous president, certainly more than any previous Republican president. Yes, he ordered the military to war upon attack by Islamic terrorists on Sept. 11, 2001, to fight ill-defined "extremism." But Bush was first and always an internationalist, a globalist, with no national calling, for example, to stem the massive illegal Hispanic influx that has transformed large swaths of the United States by replacing their Western, English-speaking heritage with a Third World, Spanish-speaking culture.

In countless ways, President Obama is merely extending and expanding policies already initiated by his predecessor. From securing the border, which neither man has considered a priority, to securing a Palestinian state, which both men have considered a priority, to a shared belief in bailout packages that are nationalizing the economy, a neutered lexicon with which to address Islam, and legalizing millions of illegal aliens, there is in both leaders a transformational impulse, intensified and now recognized as radicalism in Obama's case. Does this Bush-Obama nexus represent the place where what we once called "white guilt" and "black rage" overlap? It's possible.

In the end, Bush kept Churchill in the room with him, perhaps to mollycoddle the Right. From the beginning, Obama did not, perhaps to avoid being mistaken for a "sellout." I refer to the new president's concern as expressed in his first memoir where he wrote about his maneuvering as an undergraduate at Occidental College:

"To avoid being mistaken for such a sellout, I chose my friends carefully: the more politically active black students, the foreign students, the Chicanos, the Marxist professors and structural feminists, and punk rock performance poets. We smoked cigarettes and wore leather jackets. At night in the dorms, we discussed neocolonialism, Frantz Fanon, Euro-centrism, and patriarchy. When we ground out our cigarettes in the hallway carpet, or set our stereos so loud that the walls began to shake, we were resisting Bourgeois society's stifling constraints. We weren't indifferent or careless or insecure. We were alienated."

Maybe he still is. Only now Barack Obama is taking that "alienation" out on the nation. Increasingly, this is how I interpret President Obama's open, aggressive war on capitalism that is designed to wrest control of the economy from the private sector and transfer it to the government. I call that Marxism. Like the symbolic repudiation of Churchill, Obama's Marxist attack on free markets plays to the same factions of the radical left he once set out to ingratiate himself with as a young man.

"When the native hears a speech about Western culture, he pulls out his knife," wrote Frantz Fanon, the seminal theorist of anti-Western Third Worldism Obama mentioned above. When a Marxist, Third World-tilting president of the United States sees a bust of Winston Churchill, he sends it packing. He may have proven once again to the Left that he's no sellout, but that doesn't mean he hasn't just alienated an awful lot of the American people.

I don't know about nexus
but I know that President Bush, like a his predecessors, respected our British allies enough to not show his arse like this third-rate, race-baiting, pseudo intellectual punk that got enough other airheads of all ages and colors to vote for him like he was going into a studion after the election like Reuben Studdard.

Well now they know. He's a Marxist radical that is going to take us down if some rinos and dims don't grow a set of cahones and start bucking him. He is out to bankrupt this country and paint it as fairness for the peasants. Well the peasants don't want his brand of fairness. We prefer someone make their money and provide a job as opposed to cutting jobs and paying little taxes to the bloated government to pass out welfare instead.

You anglophiles...
make me sick. America belongs to americans. We'll put our own hero's bust in the Oval Office-the right always wants to crawl back to England, probably would have stabbed Washington in the back had they been around to do so.

The "Leftist" Obama
learned much more from Mussolini than Marx, I'm afraid. He is going to Nationalize the economy not for the people, as Marx proposed, but for the glory of the State and it's elite leadership, especially it's "Messiah" Barack Obama. He does nothing for the people. He does everything for Obama. We will watch this nation go down in flames and our citizens hiding in basements and scurrying through the streets too afraid to speak, for fear that the wrong ears will hear them. It is already beginning with the demonization of Limbaugh and others like him. Mark my words.

Honestly,
It shows that he is ill-bred. It was rude and thoughtless. He has since snubbed the British showing that he doesn't appreciate our relationship with them.

My theory is that being in the room with the bust of such a great man was too much for Dear Leader. I'm sure Eisenhower is gone as well -- I wonder where he shipped Ike another great Western leader.

Latin America is part of the West
and don't you forget it. If you use categories like "the West" you have to accept those you like and those you don't like into the category, missey!

He Should Put Up a Bust of Jeremiah...
...Wright, that great proponent of black liberation theology, which teaches that all things white, "European" and rich only live to exploit all things colored, "African (+ Latin American) and poor.

The rich, white European is the Satanic enslaving colonist and now it's his turn to be exploited and enslaved.

The English are the consumate colonizers, exploiting cheap colored labor and indigenous natural resourses.

Huge tax hikes on the top 2%, destroying capitalism and sending Churchill packing are all part of the plan. Anybody surprised at any of this should have taken Jeremiah Wright's suggestion, back when he appeared on Hannity in March 2007, and wikipedied James Cone and black liberation theology.

Robert O... a Misconception
The West, as used in this context, refers to the Judeo Christian & Greek Classical roots of the Enlightenment period, dominant in Western European thought and political discourse during the time of our founding. This doesn't describe a section of the map but a set of philosophies that our Western European ancestors founded this nation on. No reason to get offended, other than the general tendency of all Americans to find a reason to be offended.

P.S.
I can't say that in any of my readings of Ms. West's columns I have ever noticed a dislike for Latin America. I do suspect she isn't too enamored of Muslims, however. (lol)

Ron: Are You Insane?
It's not the right that would stab Washington; it's BO and his leftest henchmen including you that have the Founding Fathers turning in their graves.

The left shreds the Constitution with every move they make. Even BO said the Con was flawed because it only said what govt could not do (to us), but failed to say that govt must do for us: provide economic justice....just another way of saying nanny state.

But not to worry, BO has always said the Constitution can be "corrected" by the courts and Congress, who can make laws to steal money from honest workers and redistribute it to Dem voters.

I wish we could dig up Washington et al. They would pledge their lives, their fortunes and their sacred honor to make certain BO fails in his blatantly unamerican move to turn the US into Cuba.

Or even worse, Cacafornia!

The Dorian Gray President.
Nicolai Chauchesku wanted to change the course of rivers. Mobuto Sesse Seko denied his people the name of their country while bestowing it on his own son.

There is a class of ‘political man’ that must interfere with all that is accepted in order to establish something that lurks within their own conflicts. Call it the ‘bouleversement’, French for “to overturn.” It is a complete overturn or change.

For Mr. Obama, the behavioralists may inquire if his revelations of himself as he forged his political man, reveal one that is enraged within . Does he so adopt his missing father in order to reject the mother he feels created a man that does not belong? Is he less a revolutionary than a rootless figure?

More than one conservative woman that I've spoken with has remarked of the President that he impresses them as an effeminate male. Is this the inner rootless? Is the President a rejectionist of the western development and strong men because he longs for his yin over the celebrated western alpha yang?

Perhaps the President will commission a bust of Karl Liebknecht or a Portrait of Dorian Gray to sit with him or maybe he’ll just think of changing the flow and direction of the Potomac.

The Brits are sadly lost
They have surrendered... we need no reminder of that in our White House...Which has apparently also surrendered :(

Portrait of George
The photos we're seeing at these press conferences, indeed the paintings on the wall, the lamps, the grandfather clock in the background--all of this seems deliberate. I'm referring to the room for one of the press encounters on Tuesday or Wednesday of this week. George Washington hovered in the background. Two American landscapes (19th Century?) appeared also. I have enough right there to write a dissertation on the symbolism.

Then, consider the large lamp and the grandfather clock also "decorating" the room. the feel of it all was very traditional, Burkean, conservative.

The Washington portrait refers us back to the inaugural image of Valley Forge. The hero taking charge.

The grandfather clock suggests that we all be very, very patient!

The lamps remind us of the Enlightenment--the project Obama wants to push forward very aggressively.

The landscapes, of course, remind us all that Green is now imperative.

Very well done, Rahm!!!

He Probably
didn't want the bust of Churchill there to remind him of what he is lacking as a man, leader, and patriot.

The Brits Probably Don't Want It Either
...for the very same reason. How far they have fallen. What a painful reminder Churchill is to all.

not half the man
Obama is not half the man Churchill was. This episode is yet one more indication of how off Obama is.

Something Else . . .
. . . about Obama besides all that's been mentioned: that he's an utter (and very dangerous) sociopath, charming whenever anything goes his way, but the minute anyone challenges or questions him, he goes into a prolonged snit and becomes highly vindictive. But that's the least of it . . . and the country (as well as Western civilization itself) may well go down because of it.

Are you sure you are not talking about Limbaugh. He squeals everytime he feels
threatened.

You might want to share with us just when
Obama has become highly vindictive. The
Churchill bust is certainly not an example.

This is the rest of this story, taken from
Newsweek: "A White House spokesperson says the Churchill bust was removed before Obama's inauguration as part of the usual changeover operations, This was stated is several
other places also.

In addition, most mentioned that the bust was
ON LOAN to George Bush from Tony Blair, and
that many people from England wonder why
Churchill is so much more beloved in the US
than in England.

And many others also mentioned that Churchill
was in charge when certain people, including
Obama's father, were being tortured and killed
in Kenya, so probably Churchill is not one of
his favorite people.

Rest assured, Obama is not going to send
Western civilization down the tubes just yes.
Don't be such a chicken little.

More than one conservative woman that I've spoken with has remarked of the President that he impresses them as an effeminate male.

It would not surprise me that it would be a
CONSERVATIVE woman who would find him
effeminate. I mean after all, it is incumbent
upon them to find some fault with this exciting and intelligent man somehow.

But this line really kills me - "a rejectionist of ... strong men because he longs for his yin over the celebrated western
alpha yang?

I cannot speak for Obama's yin or yang but
I can tell you what I think of the alpha
man, western or otherwise. Ugh. Think Ted
Nugent. Ugh, ugh, ugh. Those of us with a
bit more sensitivity in our souls will go for
the yin any day of the week. We also aren't
crazy about being slapped around, thank you
very much.

Now go out and do some target shooting with
your new assault weapon. Leave the actual
thinking to the women.

The Constitution
An awful lot of the Amateur in Chief's supporters deride the Constitution of the United States as a piece of paper "written by dead old white men."

It matches up with the Pudendal President's apparent loathing of the real deal, a geniune hero, Winston Churchill - the one who began defending his country from the Nazi sympathizers who permeated the British Government, and later helping us sow the seeds to form our own CIA. (Does anyone want to contemplate what the US would be if we had to face the KGB without the CIA?)

I suspect that the messiah would love to have a bust of the faux Churchill, the stupid cluck named Ward. That way, he'd still get to play hero.

One Has to Wonder . . .
. . . if the British prime minister Obama worships, in terms of past history, is Neville Chamberlain.

To 'Tammy' . . .
. . . don't bother anyone here with that liberal rag Newsweak (misspelling deliberate). They are part and parcel of the 95% of the media that is liberal-left; that is, they are complete shills for the Democrat far-left agenda; that is, they have absolutely no credibility whatsoever.

And I suggest you go ask Joe "The Plumber" Wurzelbacher, Jim Cramer, Rick Santelli and others about Obama's vindictiveness and contempt for anything even remotely American or patriotic.

CHURCHILL'S IRON CURTAIN SPEECH

On March 5th, the 44th day of the 44th President, the day that this Marxist ideologue lied to the American people about the cause of the financial crisis to push his scatterbrained socialist agenda, was the 62nd anniversary of Winston Churchill's famous Iron Curtain Speech and the 56th anniversary of the death of Joseph Stalin. As Stalinist Russia was defeated by the Winston Churchills of the world and the American Right led by Ronald Reagan so Barack Obama will go down in flames winding up on the dung heap of history along with the Soviet Socialists of Communist Russia.

A different thought
It might actually be good for GB to have this bust back as with all their capitulation to Islam they might be reminded of a man who did not choose the lesser, easier path. Speaking of lesser, easier paths, how easy it is to appeal to mans baser instincts to promote oneself. True leaders call on others to rise to virtue, and victimhood and "wealth redistribution" are certainly not that.

Speaking of carpets...
Obama-Speak from his book as cited by Diana:

"When we ground out our cigarettes in the hallway carpet, or set our stereos so loud that the walls began to shake-we were resisting Bourgeois society's stifling constraints. We weren't indifferent or careless or insecure. We were alienated."

Obama is taking his narcissistic brand of alienation out on this nation. I worked as a residence hall director for a time and it was those students who WERE careless, insecure, selfish and indifferent who used the hallway doors for knife-throwing practice and took rugs from the floors to use in their rooms. "I pay to go here. I figured this rug was mine!" was the usual response. The ones who turned their stereos up to the hilt were not appreciated by the other students, either. I'm afraid that Obama is stuck in his infancy of egoism and anger.

Body language know-how says that anyone who sticks their chin up in the air like Obama does, is actually very angry!

Poor are those of us who must live under this sad, disguised and angry tyrant. And poor Bush. His favorite WH oval rug must have several cigarette burns in it by now, unless Obama has sent it to Akbar's Carpet Bazaar for use as a muslim prayer rug.

The Messiah
The real Messiah. This guy really believes that he is the Messiah. I do not. I am still waiting for mine. We are sitting around watching the death of the world's greatest democracy. We are on the path of socialism, or perhaps communism. We have forgotten the sacrifices of our founding fathers who risked death to create what was once a great nation. We are letting a bunch of corrupt politicians take over our lives. God Help us.
