Was the Copenhagen Global Warming Summit Walk-Out a Win for the U.S.?

Last week, a brief moment in time captured much that has gone wrong with post-'60s liberalism and feminism.

Brig. Gen. Michael Walsh of the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers was testifying at a hearing before the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works. At one point during his responses to questions posed by the Committee Chair, Sen. Barbara Boxer, D-Calif., the senator interrupted the general to admonish him about using the word "ma'am" when addressing her:

"You know, do me a favor," Boxer said in an annoyed tone of voice. "Could you say 'senator' instead of 'ma'am?' It's just a thing; I worked so hard to get that title, so I'd appreciate it. Yes, thank you."

"Yes, senator," the humiliated general responded.

The oxygen was sucked out of the room by Sen. Boxer's remarks.

It is hard to know where to begin in describing how reduced the U.S. Senate was at that moment. It is not due to differing politics that many in California are embarrassed to have Boxer as their senator; few Californians who differ from Sen. Dianne Feinstein are embarrassed by her.

To think that a body once called "the world's most deliberative" was reduced to this juvenile level is to mourn for America. The immaturity of a U.S. senator needing to ask to always be responded to as "senator" rather than "ma'am" in an ongoing dialogue with someone -- of equal stature, it should be noted -- should be self-evident to anyone.

However, in case it is not, two arguments should make this clear.

First, people in the military are taught to call their superiors "ma'am" and "sir." Thus, for example, a sergeant responding to a general will say, "Yes, sir," to a male general and, "Yes, ma'am," to a female general. Though not in the military, I always feel honored when a caller to my radio show says calls me sir. And I always have renewed respect for the military for inculcating that respectful form of address into its members.

*** Special Offer ***

To object to being called sir or ma'am by anyone, especially a member of the military and especially a high ranking member of the military is to betray an ignorance of the military and a tone deafness to civility that is appalling in anyone, especially a member of the United States Senate .

Second, and both more revealing and more instructive, is to understand how inconceivable it would be for a male senator to make such comments. Neither a Democrat nor Republican could imagine a male senator interrupting the testimony of a brigadier general to admonish him publicly, "You know, do me a favor. Could you say 'senator' instead of 'sir?' It's just a thing. I worked so hard to get that title, so I'd appreciate it."

If a male senator had said that, he would rightly be regarded as insecure, narcissistic, arrogant, and juvenile. Which is precisely why no male senator would ever say such a thing: He would know that he would be the laughingstock of the U.S. Senate.

For example, every Obama press conference transcript I read included journalists calling President Obama "sir," as was true for previous presidents. Can one imagine President Obama halting the conference to announce that because he had worked hard to earn the title, he expects never to be called "sir," but only "president"? It is inconceivable. People would have thought he had lost his mind.

Why did Boxer fail to think that way?

The answer is not only because she happens to act foolishly and childishly. The reason is deeper. Liberalism has lowered expectations of behavior for everyone in America except white Christian heterosexual males. They are the only Americans from whom dignified and mature conduct is always expected. Liberals treat women, blacks, Hispanics, gays, and many non-Christians, with what is known as the soft bigotry of low expectations. Many liberal women, blacks, Hispanics, and gays know that and use it to get away with conduct and speech that no WASP heterosexual male could. People rise or descend to the level of behavior expected of them.

That is why those 17 seconds in the U.S. Senate were so revealing and worthy of attention. They encapsulated the way in which modern liberalism has lowered the bar of civility for so many in America. And they revealed -- yet another time -- why this particular senator from California is an embarrassment to her colleagues, her state, and the U.S. miltary. It was not, unfortunately, an embarrassment to Barbara Boxer.

Boxer is a disgrace...
"Mrs." Boxer's comments were so typical of the liberal sensitivity of today--whimpy, narcissistic and petty. CA is in the dumps because of Boxer and her type.

The General, ma'am, looked at you and what he thought of you...well...I am sure I know what he said of you when he got home. I would love to tell YOU, ma'am what I think of you as a resident of CA and a veteran.

For one, I will never refer to you again as Sen...nope, ma'am, won't even do it once...

Excuse me
"The immaturity of a U.S. senator needing to ask to always be responded to as "senator" rather than "ma'am" in an ongoing dialogue with someone -- of equal stature, it should be noted -- should be self-evident to anyone."

Equal stature? Equal stature my foot.

Clownboxer isn't fit to spitshine the General's shoes. She's a crook, a liar, and a petty verminous joke.

childish
I sure that in her liberal circles this little girl just made a few more friends. Liberals hate our military and relish the opportunity to disrespect them.

Senatrix?
Technically she's a "Senatrix"... but I don't think the General gave her request a second thought. She's an a**hole. He knows it. I know it. You know it. The whole world knows it.

Totally ridiculous but true to form
I first heard this report from Mr. Prager's radio show, and I immediately recognized it for what it is. There is zero doubt that Mrs. Boxer is an extremely insecure and immature woman. I work in the entertainment field, and I find that the so called "prima donnas" of our little niche of the world are almost ALWAYS the least talented. They put on a rich act of haughtiness and bluster to hide their lack of talent. I believe this is one of the best ways to analyze Mrs. Boxer's statement. She is but another insecure "prima donna" covering her ineptitude with braggadocio. We must pity this woman.

Mr. Prager
Good column. I live in MN, and have been picked on for Franken. I give the country Sen. Boxer, and rest my case.
Kirk

If boxer had to remind someone
that she was a senator, she's not doing her job very well.

Dennis is correct of course that ma'am is the perfectly acceptable address.

I wish when things like this occur, the gentleman would simply get up and walk out.
A short statement would be nice, something along the lines of " I didn't come up here to be insulted by the likes of you" or "call me when you grow up".

Boxer is a typical elitist liberal, she hates the military and did this to score brownie points with her cocktail party friends.

She needs to be reminded that she didn't "earn" anything, she was voted in by a bunch of morons who actually think she's smart because she's smarter than they are...which isn't saying much.

The trouble with the senate is that she represents pretty much the mindset of the that body.....out of 100, there are about 10 that are worthy of the title, compared with the statesmen that once inhabited those halls, the rest are clowns.

humiliated?
The general was hardly humiliated, rather he showed exemplary restraint to a childish comment. The senator is not in the chain of command, but a mere legislator.

Senators and Representatives
It's come to my attention that Senators and Representatives fail to grasp their station in the country. As representatives of the people, they've voluntarily lowered themselves below those that they represent. Employers (people) do not need to engage in honorifics toward their employees (Senators and Representatives). For them to behave in such a manner would get anyone else fired.

General Walsh, who has his salary taxed like everyone else to pay for Boxer's salary, is HER superior, not the other way around. She should have been pleased to be called ma'am instead of Ms. Boxer as superiors would have called her in the military.

Our representatives have gotten inflated egos over the years. They see themselves as leaders, not servants. It's about time we, the people, remind our Senators and Representatives who's the boss and who's the employee.

Boxer
I'd have ignored her remark, and just kept calling her ma'am. It would have been worth the price of an admission to see her really meltdown,,,,

Boxer
No argument with Dennis on Barbara Boxer, except to ask why he chickened out on running against her? He talked big a few years back, then fizzled.

But I think he should have used this weeks column to apologize for being so wrong last week with his attack on Obama.

You know, Mr. Happiness sure is a negative guy.

Vlad
Obama was atacked? Oh, MY! We can't have that. Our president is so cool we just cannot say enough good about him, not enough I say!

I Agree With Boxer
There is nothing wrong with Senator Boxer's conduct and she has every right to demand the respect and awe of her subjects. To tolerate insolence from the governed cheapens the status of our aristocracy and creates insecurity among the peasantry.

There is only one way to properly run a feudal system, such as we have in America today. Any parent knows that you cannot allow little children to run around, unattended, without strong parental control. Lack of discipline and respect at home results in unruly kids and accidents. Lack of respect and discipline in a nation leads to chaos and massive disorder. Someone has to be in charge.

Americans have opted for feudalism. They have signaled their weariness of participatory democracy, republicanism, self-reliance and freedom. They gave up. They want government to feed, clothe, cure and house them. By now they have to be told how to cough by their messiah. "On your sleeves, not on your hands," he told us during the height of the swine flu hysteria.

Ruling 300 million serfs who drool on themselves and soil their pants is a demanding job. Those that take on the responsibility for our care should be admired and they are due all the courtesies befitting royalty.

It is only right that we learn the customs and practices of an aristocracy. We must learn to be humble and respectful to those lords and ladies that now govern our lives. If we make them mad, they will reduce our rations and our medical care.

Please, do not offend their eyes and ears with your disrespect. We are nothing without them.

Obama attacked
Ted, you can attack Obama all you like, just be right. In this case Dennis was wrong, just ask George Will,Peggy Noonan and Henry Kissinger.

Remember this
You are a LIAR GEN BE-TREY-US

The Libs of this country think the Military is the ENEMY and then we are going back to the
PRE 9/11 days again

Just look at what this LIB CONTROLLED CONGRESS has xcalled our Troops. You Libs know the TROOPS you Claimed so much to support during the VBush Admin

The Marines are Murderers, Murtha (D)Pa.
The troops are acting like the SS brigade Schumer (D)
their are more but you LIBS have never liked our military and never will. I recall coming home from Nam and most their were Drafted and had no say in what happened and where TREATED LIKE SCUM BY YOU , PEACE,LOVE and DRUGS and 60s,70s Hippies who some are now LIB LEADERS In Congress
Why do you think Obama wants a CIVILIAN FORCE AS STRONG AND WELL FUNDED LIKE OUR MILITARY AND WHY?
The problem with Libs in Congress is THAT YOU COULD CARE LESS ABOUT YOUR MEN AND WOMEN IN UNIFORM. Its Shows by the way you treat them.

USING THE WORD MAAM IN THE MILITARY IS A COMMAND OF RESPECT

HE could have called her what she really is DOUCHBAG

Most libs. have never been in the
services, would be scared to death to enlist, and abhor anything middle to cons. on the right side of the pol. spectrum where much of the military sees its political leanings.

After all Colin Powell rose to Joints Chief of Staff as a Republican, because that is basic military culture, altho' his pol. leanings are toward Carter and Obama, about as far left as possible without a hammer and sickle at their sides.

Kirk -- 7:36 a.m. Post

As one who has taken several prior swipes at you Gopher Staters, my semi-apologies. I suppose it is fair to say that only HALF of the voting electorate in your state are morons.

[Never mind that Virginia's senior senator -- Jim "Born Fighting" Webb -- similarly chose to act like an immature brat at his "Welcome to Washington" reception with the president. What a total bunch of clowns!]

You can send Boxer an email
Just Google *Senator Barbara Boxer contact.*

I sent her:

You, Senator, are a SERVANT of the PEOPLE, and not some feudal lord or master to demand a title.

Did you ever serve in the military? Did anyone in your benighted family?

In the military, those serving show respect by calling senior male officers "Sir" and senior females *Ma'am" AND YOU WERE CALLED *MA'AM.*

You are no more senior to any enlistee in the armed services than my dog's left hind foot.

You should apologize.

Prager
Leave it to Prager to throw such a hissy fit over such a trivial issue.

Of course, it's a Democrat, so he'll grab onto the issue like a pit bull and never let it go.

I get the feeling that Prager sees the entire world through a filter of whether or not it makes Democrats look bad. If it does, it makes it through the filter of his mind and he gets very excited.

Notice that he had nothing to say about Mark Ensign' affair. Not a ward. That's not embarrassing. Nooooo. Asking to be called Senator instead of ma'am is apparently a much greater disgrace to the Senate in Prager's filtered mindset.

You're losing it Prager. You're hyper-partisanship is making you look foolish.

Phylo out.

Boxer is punch drunk
Next to pelosi and the 2 idiot ladies from Maine, boxer is the biggest jacka$$ in Washington. She is a fool.

phylo
If only you know what you were saying you would be embarrassed enough to go back under your rock. boxer is a punk and unless she is a complete moron she knows that in the military women are addressed as "ma'am". So which is it? Is she a complete moron or was she justing trying to punk off a brig. general?

"I worked hard for it"..Yeah right b#&ch

I was about to post something profound when the morning’s coffee and bran muffin kicked in. So would you all please excuse me a moment while I go send a SENATOR BOXER to sea.

Ignorant + rude = Senator?
I am a woman (albeit, Christian, heterosexual and white), so in that sense only is Ms. Boxer my peer. Therefore I will call her what no man is supposed to call her: insecure, narcissistic, arrogant, and juvenile.

During the heydey of the 60's and 70's, the lexicon of common courtesy and civility were expunged from the "educated and liberated," American life. Only in the South, did this archaic tradition of addressing a superior by "Ma'am or Sir" continue. The elitist of course looks down upon this portion of the country as dumb. For shame.

Ms. Boxer's disdain for the military was behind her stupid, arrogant display, I have no doubt.

Her state derives a tremendous amount of money from the presence of perhaps as many if not more military installations than any other state. The California schools receive huge amounts of federal money to educate the children of the troops who spend a lot of money in the state.

No wonder California is in such bad shape if they elect the likes of Feinstein, Boxer and that real mental giant, Pelosi.

Phylo
"Notice that he had nothing to say about Mark Ensign' affair. Not a ward. That's not embarrassing. Nooooo. Asking to be called Senator instead of ma'am is apparently a much greater disgrace to the Senate in Prager's filtered mindset"

PUHLEEEZE. The Ensign affair is dwarfed by the stench of Dim scandals swept under the rug and moldering. Seems like you're interesting only in the scandals that touch a Republican. If Ensign were a Dim, he could have had sex with his houseplant and nothing would be said by the media, or by you.

My Wish.
Maybe before I die, I will get to see the generals, maybe even the colonels, arrest Boxer, and her cohorts.

n
"Is she a complete moron or was she justing trying to punk off a brig. general"

That's easy. She is undoubtedly ignorant over the military tradition of "ma'am", but she was clearly trying to put the general in his place. It was a power play, pure and simple. No respect there, just contempt.

People rise or descend to the level of
behavior expected of them.
SOME, I repeat, SOME, women and SOME Blacks try to use the soft bigotry of low expectations, in situations where they are expected and required to act like responsible adults, in order to shirk that responsibility. I once worked for the Department of Motor Vehicles and, OCCASIONALLY, I would see Blacks or women who pretended to be stupid, stood there grinning at me, tried to get me to do their thinking and assume their responsibilities for them. Since I'm neither sexist nor racist, this behavior made me angry. It also made me suspect that the person doing it could recite Plato's Republic from memory-in the original Greek!

1960Republican

My Wish
"Maybe before I die, I will get to see the generals, maybe even the colonels, arrest Boxer, and her cohorts."

That is a truly GREAT wish.

I'd just love to hear the general then, as babs is standing against the wall..."SENATOR, would you care for a last smoke?"

Phylo Se Fiser
"Not a ward?" I believe you mean "not a word,"
you (sic) man.

1960Republican
The Generals are fighting to defend free speech, including rude, stupid, snotty speech.

Dennis this stuff is catching
A member of a local school board here in So Calif admonished other member that she should always be addressed as "capitain" her rank while serving in the US Navy. Needless to say this woman is a total nut case and is part of an ongoing set of lawsuits between the board and herself.

The amount of self doubt, self absorbtion and self delusion expressed by Boxer in her need to make an issue of being address as Senator not ma'am is beyond comprehension.

Senator Embarrassment, D-Calif
Mr. Prager: Being brought up in an earlier and more enlightened time, having served in the military, and having an earned PhD in the sciences, I could not agree more with your basic tenant. Having earned the right to be addressed by Doctor, I never use the title but operate on a first name basis with business associates. On the rare occasion I run into a person with the misguided attitude of Ms. Boxer, I tell them "You can call me Doctor".

I would prefer not to...

Since I know of no particular requirement to refer to Barbara Boxer as, "Senator," I believe a more proper response would have been,

"Yes Ma'am or would you prefer, Highness?"

While I realize it would be beneath the dignity of an officer in the military, it would sure be fun to watch the contortions on the face of this arrogant twit who prefers to be adored and honored by those whom she views as her servants.

How Did The Turtle Cross The Road?

Or send stimulus checks to 10,000 dead people?

Or why no other country is willing to loan the United States one Wilsonian dime?

Or pay for health care when we do NOT have enough doctors?

Or tax the "rich", who are no longer rich?

Or explain why Nethanayu is on the side of Iranian protesters?

Or why Obama has stated that we are BROKE?

Or why Biden is on Auto-Pilot?

Or why the Federal Reserve refuses to be audited?

Your Liberalism/Progressivism is killing the patient, America.

It is time for another REVOLUTION or FORT SUMTER.

And, I am Ms.

Meanwhile Phylo...
The reason there is no mention, not a word, about the adulterous affair of Mr. Ensign is simple: The article is about Barbara Boxer and her pompous, arrogant remarks.

If the article were about adultery in the Senate Mr. Ensign would have been mentioned along with Ted Kennedy; chief senate resident rapist, murdering adulterer.

Time for titles
Fellow conservatives,

I think it is high time for we conservatives to insist that any lib troll on this board address us by "wise one" (I am open to suggestions) or we refuse to respond to them. IGNORE them if they refuse to give us the respect which we have earned by being conservative. THAT will put them in their place!

Parker
And dont forget with ted kennedy, expert driver!

The Answer is Simple
Nothing "Senator" Boxer does has any relevance to the issue at hand; it is all about her sense of power. People like Boxer aren't just narcissistic, their personal arrogance is a danger to the office she holds and the people she represents.

What do you call...
...politicians - like Boxer - who pass a "stimulus" bill, allot $20,000,000 to build one bridge, and claim that "10,000" jobs were saved (which means that each employee was paid $1.00 per hour)? Fools comes to mind. Liars would be accurate. I can think of other things, but my dear old Mom raised me better ("no cussin in front of women, sonny").

For some reason, I'm reminded of Mark Twain, who said that he had never wished anyone dead, but had read many an obituary with glee.

Ms. Boxer
Ms. Boxer would have a nervous breakdown if she visited the South. Responding with "ma'am" or "sir" is as ingrained as it is in the military. For us, it shows respect to the person with whom we are engaging, deserved or not!

Worse than Boxer, Pelosi
claimed in one month we lost several hundred million jobs. There are ONLY 300,000,000 in the entire country.

These people are STUPID.

It must be the smog in CA.

AndIfNot-N-Kirk-GatorBait-StDenis-Others
She worked hard?!?!?! All this Ugly, Hairy Legged, Harridan of a Leftover Hippie had to do to be elected Senator was get other Hairy Legged, Hippie, Harridans to vote for her.

BTW have you noticed how AGITATED Liberals are lately? Bob Beckel was outright HOSTILE on Hannity last night. I saw a clip of Bill Maher’s show where they had a panel discussion. Meghan McCain was the Conservative (?) Voice and Paul Begala and 3 other Libfags were the Liberal Voices. I am no fan of Meghan McCain, but Begala was OVER the line in the way he addressed her. One of Meghan’s jarhead brothers needs to punch Begala RIGHT IN THE MOUTH! SOMETHING has the Obamadrones all FIRED UP! WHAT is it that they know that we DON’T? Be careful of getting an Obamafag agitated. You could have your hair pulled, your face scratched and he could hit you with his purse.

It would be nice if someone, anyone,

instead of accepting it on faith, would prove we have a POTUS.

If obama was born in Kenya as his paternal grandmother says, he had to be naturalized. If someone has to be naturalized to be an American, they hardly qualify as a natural born citizen.

To eligible to be POTUS under the law of the land, a person must be a natural born citizen. They cannot be a naturalized citizen.

Further complicating things is that obama may not even have been naturalized. That means the U.S.A. has a foreigner sitting in its highest political office making life and death decisions for people who are foreigners to him.

Citizenship
Eddietoo @ Jun 23, 2009 - 11:04 AM EST

Native Born Citizen; born in United States and its territories. (McCain, born in the US Canal Zone, a US territory), eligible for POTUS

Citizen; qualified, but born to US Citizens abroad... many military brats all into this catagory (like me), not eligible for POTUS

Naturalized Citizen; came here, played by the rules, became a citizen... not eligible for POTUS

It is ridiculous, but a child born to illegal aliens is eligible for POTUS, but I am not, go figure. I don't think citizenship by birth should be applicable to anyone who is born to someone who is NOT a citizen, not a resident alien, or a tourist, or a student visa holder, etc. Your parents should BOTH be citizens to be a citizen if you are born in the USA. Phooey on border babies.

Eddie
"If obama was born in Kenya as his paternal grandmother says, he had to be naturalized. If someone has to be naturalized to be an American, they hardly qualify as a natural born citizen."

IF is the key point and there is no proof he was born in Kenya.

"To eligible to be POTUS under the law of the land, a person must be a natural born citizen. They cannot be a naturalized citizen."

Yes according to Section 1, Article II of the US Constitution, perhaps when the US was only 11 (or 4 or not yet a year old depending how you count) there was a legitimate reason for this clause, but not now. It should be repealed as Orin Hatch has tried to do and many others have called for. There is no reason on earth why Elaine Chao (Zhao Xiao Lan/Chao Hsiao-lan)or Carlos Gutierrez or Arnold Schwarzenegger should not be allowed to run for the presidency. If Bobby Jindal had been born six months earlier in India instead of Baton Rouge you think he'd be less loyal?

"Further complicating things is that obama may not even have been naturalized."

Care to weave a rational tale how his mother smuggled him in from Kenya. There are few illegal aliens in the US from Kenya and to a man they came to the US legally on a visa and then overstay. Any proof his mother was ever in Kenya or in Kenya in 1961?

Hearsay isn't proof.

West Texan
"Citizen; qualified, but born to US Citizens abroad... many military brats all into this catagory (like me), not eligible for POTUS"

Untrue. George Romney born in Mexico to two US citizens (who were living in Mexico in exile over the US policy against polygamy)ran for president in 1968. He lost the nomination to Richard Nixon who went on to win the presidency.

Hsiao Bi-Khim (Hsiao Mei-Ch'in/Xiao Meiqin), born in Kobe, Japan and lived much of her life in Tainan moved to the US to go to high school. Her father Taiwanese and her mother an American. Had she been 35 (went back to Taiwan in her mid-20s) and had she lived in the US for 14 years (lived in the US for about 10) she could have ran for the presidency.

In 1998, as an advisor to then mayor of Taipei, Chen Shui-bian, members of a minor pro-China party, the New Party complained that a foreigner was acting as a major advisor to the mayor of Taipei in violation of the Civil Service Act, she then renounced her US citizenship. She eventually became a member of the Li Fa Yuan from the DPP (Taiwan's legislature) but wasn't re-nominated for the 2008 elections as some in the DPP felt she was too pro-China calling her China Qin--ironic isn't it? She is quite easy on the eyes as well.

Georgetwin
"BTW have you noticed how AGITATED Liberals are lately? Bob Beckel was outright HOSTILE on Hannity last night"

I'd bet its the following:

NBC's Chuck Todd: "The honeymoon is coming to an end for President Obama, but it's not personal. It's professional, as now the public appears to be judging the president on some of his actions." (NBC's "Nightly News," 6/17/09)

How....
did we get from talking about "senator" barbara butthead to the DEAD story of obambi being a citizen? NO ONE CARES anymore he is president get over it!!! You people who are still talking about birth certificates and where he was born need to go away. Its getting creepy now.

akagi
you'd say anything to protect your boy.

CALIF
BOXER,FINESTIEN ,WATERS. Kinda speaks for the stupidity of the electorite out there.

n
It's getting creepy out there.(SURE IS!

Make Boxer pack her boxes
"It's *DOCTOR* Evil. I didn't spend six years in Evil Medical School to be called 'mister,' thank you very much."

Boxer, you're a d0ucheb*g.

Can we count on our freedom-loving common-sense California voters, of ALL political affiliations, to PLEASE vote this embarrassment out of office? I know you're all out there, and I have faith you're not ALL patchouli-stinking, Burkenstock-wearing, leg-hair-sportin' liberals. Even among California Dems, I know many of you are not brain dead and can clearly see the disrespectful embarrassment this woman truly is.

Please do the nation a favor and send this gold-digging political opportunist back to her world of cocktail parties and looking down her nose at people WITHOUT the title of "Senator."

Stan
Not my boy...isn't calling a black man boy seen as well racist? No, I am not in the business of protecting him, but I am a willing foe of ODS just as I was aginst BDS.

n:

Exactly. They are like a dog with a bone. They are as bad as those on the left with their claims against Bush.

Obama is president and unless something very unusual like he has a massive stroke or something (and then you'll have President Biden who in my view would be far worse than Obama)he will be president until at least January 20, 2013 and I expect him to be president until January 20, 2017 and looking at the state of the GOP, I don't hold out much hope for a Republican in 2016 either. A member of the GOP will eventually re-gain the White House, but it may be a long time coming and the demographics and time aren't on your side.

BOXER?
Hoe about McCain saying,Barrack is doing okay as pres. Man! we are in trouble!

Citizenship
Akagi, your reply to Eddie actually validates my conjecture. I do not believe a naturalized citizen, no matter of what stature should serve as POTUS, not my grandparents or cousins.

I will research your proposition for further understanding. I do not question the loyalty of Ahnold or other foreign born (to US citizens or not) to the USA. I actually do question the loyalty of many native born politicians in this country, and of course many Hollyweirders... thus poses a question! Would a stalwart naturalized "American" US Citizen be a better POTUS than a native born scumbag? Yes.

I do make a distinction between being an American and a US Citizen, a citizen is a point/matter of law, being an American is matter of the soul and heart, they are not synonymous, but should be.

Boxer is a poor excuse for a Senator
Boxer, and I repeat, Boxer, is a very poor excuse for a Senator. I always vote against her and always will, even if they run a chimpanzee against her. At least the Chimp is not a chump.
"She worked hard..." my a**! She's a joke!
California - wake up! Stop electing these immature political hacks!

Akagi, answer this
If Il Duce has nothing to hide, why spend a reported 900K on lawyers to keep his records private?

If I had to provide my ORIGINAL birth certificate to obtain my Merchant Marine Officer's license, why doesn't he have to provide HIS.
Same for a passport, a security clearance and many other licenses and certificates issued by the gov't....WE, the curious have a right to demand that this guy PROVE he is eligible to sit where he does.

Bad enough that he's grossly incompetant, we don't want a fifth columnist destroying the country on behalf of our enemies.

Fighting to defend it where exactly?

The US military are tools of US foreign policy and have little to do with protecting free speech or anything else.

You and I KNOW what it is. I just want to see the LOONS start SCREECHING!

I suppose it depends where you are, in the rural south this is the case, but not so much the large cities like Atlanta and the like.

I have no idea why she'd have an issue with the term ma'am. She's a nut.

Arrest her for what? You want the US to be like some banana republic where the military gets involved politics? No thank you. I'd rather them stay where they should be under the control of the civilian leadership, you want to live under a military junta, might I recommend Myanmar

Buddy, I'm hearin' ya. I agree 100%. I had to show a boat-load of documents in order to join the service ten years ago. I had to call up my folks to see if they still had any of those old documents.

I want to know... (and I'm a former military public affairs guy) WHY can we not get access to his "certifying" documents via a FOIA request? (that acronym, for those wondering, stands for "Freedom of Information Act" request)

Yes, I get it, it *IS* his personal information. But, it's also *OUR* office of the president. The citizens have a right to know (codified in the Constitution), without a doubt, whether the person sitting in the WH is Constitutionally-eligible to hold that office.

My experience in life is: where there's smoke, there's fire. If he's keeping all of this a biiiiiiig secret and under wraps, you can bet there is a very good reason he doesn't want any of it released.

"Most transparent government," my foot. Release the g*d-d*mned documents.

When his citizenship (or lack there-of) leaks out, we will be in a constitutional conundrum the scale of which we've not seen since the document was drafted nearly 250 years ago. Expect chaos. The congress will have to overturn EVERYTHING the man did in his time squatting in the WH. EVERYTHING.

There are some who claim that to be a US citizen you must be born in the US of two US citizens. President Obama and George Romney and Bobby Jindal (one fool even claimed that his parents became US citizens before he was born, a feat that is impossible) prove how false this claim is.

Those who become US citizens via naturalization can't become president nor due to the 12th amendment serve as vice-president. I find this a rather stupid clause. Hatch's proposal was for any citizen who has lived in the US for 20 years (no matter how they became a citizen) should be eligible for the presidency and I find this reasonable.

As for the names. Zhao Xiaolan (Elaine Chao) born in Taiwan, her parents fleeing there from China in 1949. Moved to the US when she was 8, married to the Senate minority leader and served as Secretary of Labor under Bush 43 and director of the Peace Corps under Bush 41.

Carlos Gutierrez was Bush 43 Secretary of Commerce who fled Cuba with his family at the age of 7 and Arnold you know. Think Gutierrez has any loyality to Cuba? Think Chao does to China (the country her parents fled from) or Taiwan and the country she left at 8 has changed so much it really no longer exists. Arnold has loyality to Austria? Makes no sense that they can't run if they desire.

Does it make sense that Ward Churchill could run for president, but Chao can't? I think on this point you and I agree.

Character Flaws and B. Boxer.
Sen. Boxer upbraided the Gen. with her self-congratulating, “I’ve worked so hard ..."

What of the work it takes to acquire flag rank in the U.S. Military?

It's an accomplishment to be elected to office, but is it actually 'hard work' on the same par as being a successful career military officer?

Sen. Boxer was a much tainted, public individual before this fit of pique and bad style with the General.

Pease remember, (and never forget) that this is the individual that has been a facilitator for not one, but two convicted child porn traffickers out of her offices.

On judgment and wisdom, what does it say if you don't have the eye to spotting and vetting the staff you let loose to wreck havoc in the lives of children; giving the child abuser the imprimatur of your congressional offices over the years.

Then, on 'hard work', remember that Sen. Boxer was one of the most flagrant "check kiters" caught-up in the congressional bank check overdraft kiting scandal of the early 1990's. She was one if not the most abusive of all those democrats caught up in the abuses of the House bank and franking privileges.

She should be hanging her head in shame instead of directing forms of address.

Hardly. If this was the case the Congress could do a few things. Propose an amendment to repeal the idiotic clause in the Constitution and have the states ratify it. They could "for the good of the country" as would be their claim pass a law giving Obama the authority to stay on as president and hope the courts sit back and allowed them to do this. Or they could remove him from office in which case Biden would be president. They would no more have to undo everything he did than they had to undo everything Nixon did. And not to be picky, the Constitution was drafted 222 years ago.

And who is he to provide these documents to? The loons howling over this? They'll just claim the documents were faked or there was some other grand conspiracy. Obama giving the documents or acknowledging their claims by releasing them only gives credibility to nuts and you remember the warning about that, never argue with fools as they'll only bring you down to their level and beat you with experience.

Mr. Prager
Sir, I think you're overanalyzing the reasons for Boxer's puerile incivility. You write, "Liberalism has lowered expectations of behavior for everyone in America except white Christian heterosexual males. People rise or descend to the level of behavior expected of them."

I think the reason is much more simple than that: she's an immature, insecure, narcissistic b****. That's it. Nothing more complicated than that.

Colin Powell didn't rise to the ranks of CotJCoS because he was a Republican--they could have found a number of those more qualified than he, but because he was BLACK and claimed to be a Republican and those were much much harder to find. How many chairman have been ROTC grads with a C average (and lower if you pulled out his ROTC grades) or any ROTC grad as far as that goes? How many chairman had a past CO give an eval report saying he showed poor leadership skills and should not be promoted which is always the end of your career at that level...of course unless you are Colin Powell. And how did he repay this? By treason. That'll teach the GOP to listen to the likes of Jack Kemp. No it won't...they'll still pander, still get les than 10% of the black vote and still get stabbed in the back by those they tried to "reach out" to.

Liberal blacks called Colin Powell a House Negr0, I bet they have a different view of him now.

Akagi
"And not to be picky, the Constitution was drafted 222 years ago."

LOL. Akagi likes playing history "gotcha". This is your response to "nearly 250 years ago"? What part of the word NEARLY don't you understand?

BTW, you are WRONG. It's not 222 years, its 221 years, 9 months and 6 days.

Tone down on the smug, superior-intellect attitude, bub. Do you really think you are smarter than the rest of us?

Phylo
It isn't trival, she showed great disrespect for an officer of the United States. Also, sure he will do anything to put the left and the Democrats (usually the same but not always)in a bad light just as those on the left will do the same to those on the right and the GOP (again usually the same but not always). Seen Rachel Maddow or Keith Olbermann? I rarely, can't really stomach these two clowns. But recall one of her guests was Hilda Solis and she was making a big deal about her parents being immigrants. Well, Elaine Chao's parents were immigrants too and some how I bet she didn't have her on her show ever or make a big deal over the fact her parents were immigrants? Why? Because Chao is a Republican and Solis is a lefty Democrat, that's why.

And
"Tone down on the smug, superior-intellect attitude, bub. Do you really think you are smarter than the rest of us?"

I haven't met all of you. I guess it depends on the person. Give me a name and I'll tell you. For someone for example that thinks you can get US ciitzenship within a year of arriving on US soil, yes, much smarter. For someone who thinks Japan was never under US occupation, again, much smarter. Case by case basis, "bub." As for you, jury still out.

Senator Boxer and the general
Senator Boxer was NOT out of line for telling a service member to call her "Senator". Generals answer to Congress and need to be respectful to ALL of them, not just the Repulsives. I was an assigned pilot to the Assistant Division Commander, 1st Infantry Division, Ft. Riley, KS. A one star general. And let me tell you, he WOULD NOT TOLERATE a subordinate calling him "Sir". He was to be addressed as "General", and nothing else was allowed. Ask anyone in the military, other than the NAVY, and they will tell you the proper military address for a general was, "General". There is NO reason why a general should not be held to the same standard of respect for a United States Senator.
What Repulsives are mad about is that Senator Boxer is a WOMAN. But they can't say that. Good thing she isn't black. They could call her "coon" then.

And If Not
And 221 years, 9 months and six days would be rounded to 222 years would it not? If I had $221.75 it would be rounded to $220.00, not $250.00. I suppose you could say you nearly had $250.00, but that wouldn't exactly be accurate and looking at the War of Southern Secession and a host of other events, *IF* it was ever proved that Obama was not a natural born citizen (about as likely as he being an alien from the planet gurk gurk too)it would hardly be the greatest crisis, constitutional or otherwise since the document was drafted. The statement was inaccurate and overblown.

Jeremy
How is calling a person ma'am or sir a sign of disrepect? And that general you claim demanded people call him general sounds like a world class pigu. Too bad somebody did smoke his backside on some battlefield somewhere--sounds like where he belongs, decomposing under a plot of grass someplace, but seems to me he was one of those REMF, a f'ing pogue. So diu nie lo mo on him. And if she was a black woman, I'd not call her a coon, but a stupid black woman. Or is Senator Stupid Black Woman better?

Also, as anyone here can tell you, I'm not a Republican.

A Good Response...
From the General would have been "Ms. Boxer, in my culture ‘ma’am’ is the term of respect we use to address those who are senior to us, and I used it with you to show my respect for you, your office, and position. We address people by their job title, in your case that would be ‘senator’, when those persons are our juniors… recognizing the importance of the job over the importance of the person. So, I was addressing you with my utmost respect, but, Ms. Boxer, if you wish me to address you by your job title I will be more than happy to.”

Can't believe how out of touch and petty my elected representative in the Senate is.

She may have asked to be insulted
I could be wrong about this, but I have heard that in the Army addressing a superior by their rank instead of "Sir" or "Ma'am" can be a subtle way of indicating a lack of respect, depending on the context.

"Sir" and "Ma'am" are terms of respect, "Senator" is just her title as does not necessarily indicate respect. I would address that silly twit as Senator because that's her title: I would not call her Ma'am.

Given the Senate's approval rating, what makes her think Senator is a sign of respect anyway?

Madame Senator

I believe that calling someone a Scumbag Sleazeball is a complement compared to calling someone a Senator. They have worked hard over the years to give me that impression. And SENATOR Boxer is close to the bottom of the cesspool of those SENATORS! I have zero respect for any of them.

Thanks, Shawn
You explained it much better than I did.

Hey, if she wants to be addressed by her title then how about the very accurate "Pork-grubbing abuser of the public trust and leech on the taxpaying citizens"?

Why He Doesn't Release Birth Certificate
1. Because he knows he was born in Hawaii

2. There's no evidence that he was born anywhere else.

3. The US Supreme Court refused to take a case claiming he wasn't born in Hawaii.

4. Most important--the people who claim he wasn't born in Hawaii, or who say they'd like proof, are so stupid and silly that they, in essence, don't count. Except on TH, no one can hear you. You don't exist. It's as if you're shouting that Obama won't prove that the earth is round, and you're not sure...

How do you people find your way home at night? Or do you just not ever leave the house?

To hide the truth or not to FEAR the....
the truth? When Americans see their country being taken to hell by Obama why wouldn't they ask questions and seek answers?? WHY DOES OBAMA HIDE HIS DOCUMENTS IF HE HAS NOTHING TO FEAR?

It isn't just the original birth record, it is all of the other records, transcripts, passports and documents-- oh so neatly and shrewdly tucked away from view---after all, Obama is keeping them safe---safe from us. What might we do if we found out what is hidden there? What might we be able to STOP HIM FROM DOING if we saw what was hiding there out of his fear--- his fear of punishment?

I've got a pretty good idea about why this is all so secret- THE-FEAR. It is the biggest and most treasonous fraud ever committed upon the American people. Obama is not eligible to serve because he is not a natural born citizen according to the Constitution.. Of course people will make fun of anyone who says this. They will call you names and shame you if they can. Why listen to those whose only real retort when challenged is that they won? And why have the bust of Churchill remain in the oval office as a daily reminder of those man's words: The only thing to fear is fear itself? Get rid of that darn thing ASAP!!

I keep remembering what C.S. Lewis said about the devil. People ridicule the idea of Satan just so you will be embarrassed to believe that he is a force of evil. After all, they joke, he is not real and is just a made up, funny old man in a red suit holding a pitchfork----just too silly for words, you know!!

But, if you read the Scriptures you will see many references to that funny old fellow-Satan.

If Obama didn't have anything to fear, there would be no guessing games, no hiding, no lying, no tricks, no fake crises, no former mentors under the bus, no hidden campaign donors, no cover-ups, no teleprompters and no incredible haste to ram his agenda down our throats. What's that we smell??? The stench of FEAR!!

I agree with Mr. Prager
Kids aren't taught to say yes sir or yes ma'am anymore. They aren't taught to show respect for their elders, teachers or law enforcement. Liberalism has coursened dialog and behavior. No one is the boss of me is the attitude; unless you are an elected official. Then you are royalty and the electors are your servants.
Boxer and many other Senators and Congressmen have total disdain for the people they are supposed to serve. Dennis accurately described the attitude of Senator Boxer and her ilk. We are serfs who need to be told what to do, when to do it and how much we should worship them.
Sorry Senator, I only worship our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. You are merely someone we selected to represent us in Washington (well, represent the State of California). That can be easily remedied. The fact the California is in such bad shape shows that the electorate in California is foolish or misguided.

California Should Fall Into The Ocean

Maine is plugging for an across the tax cut.

Vermont is aiming for secession.

Obama signs a tobacco bill that protects children, but not adults. Further, the nutters gave $10bn to tobacco farmers in the Farm Bill and cut off the water in some of their farm areas.

Of course, my Californian friends can come to Louisiana.

SImilar Idiocy
This reminds me of the time that a friend of mine attended his son's parent-teacher organization meeting. Fred was not the type to make this a habit and left the attendances to his wife. But there was a big to-do brewing and he wanted his voice to be heard.

Fred's son went to a private school in New Jersey that was just chock-full of liberal parents. The school had a requirement that all students address teachers as "sir" or "ma'am." The liberals were up in arms over this. They thought such practices to be "demeaning" to their children. Fred could not disagree with them more. In fact, he was livid when he heard about the movement and that was what caused him to attend the meeting.

The leader of the liberal group, a woman, began the "debate." She ranted and raved. Steam was coming out of Fred's ears as she did. She ended her tirade with something to the fact that caling teachers "sir" and "ma'am" was totally unwarranted and innappropriate.

At that point, Fred's steam pressure had excede its valve limit. Hs stood up and said, "So how should the kids address their teachers? A__hole?"

Fred's wife cringed and slid under her seat. But Fred made his point and the rule stood.

When he told this to a agroup of us. The laughs and applause rocked the room. Fred was never one to mince words.

Barbara "The Bimbo" Boxer is one of my senators. I have never voted for her and never will. However, there are many who did. As P.T. Barnum once remarked, "Nobody ever went broke by underestimating the intelligence of the American public."

Louisiana
"Of course, my Californian friends can come to Louisiana."

Where half the state is under water and the rest is under indictment and home to one of the worst public school systems in the country if not on the entire planet. Not to mention you'd have to be a LSU fan I suppose. I'd pass on that offer.

You're a moron. The General was following military protocol when he called her "ma'am." Unfortunately, the pernicious sow outranks him from the point of view of the military, and we are required to address officers and civilians appointed above us as "Sir" or "Ma'am." The only exception is NCOs.

My, but you're a hemorrhoid!

Kenneth
That story is a hoot! I've got to remember that story!

Your BG sounds like a cross between the Queen of Hearts in Disney's "Alice in Wonderland" and MAJ Frank Burns!

"Certification of Live Birth"
Is NOT a Birth Certificate.

Under the Law of the State of Hawaii, persons born anywhere in the world could obtain a Certification of Live Birth as Obama's mother did for him.

The Law just required her to have been a resident of Hawaii before her child was born to be given the Certification of Live Birth as Obama has.

His sister Maya was born in Jakarta Indonesia yet also has a Certification of Live Birth as if born in Hawaii.

Hawaiian state law allows children born outside Hawaii get valid Hawaiian birth certificates (S. 338-17.8)

[§338-17.8] Certificates for children born out of State. (a) Upon application of an adult or the legal parents of a minor child, the director of health shall issue a birth certificate for such adult or minor, provided that proof has been submitted to the director of health that the legal parents of such individual while living without the Territory or State of Hawaii had declared the Territory or State of Hawaii as their legal residence for at least one year immediately preceding the birth or adoption of such child.

(b) Proof of legal residency shall be submitted to the director of health in any manner that the director shall deem appropriate. The director of health may also adopt any rules pursuant to chapter 91 that he or she may deem necessary or proper to prevent fraudulent applications for birth certificates and to require any further information or proof of events necessary for completion of a birth certificate.

(c) The fee for each application for registration shall be established by rule adopted pursuant to chapter 91. [L 1982, c 182, §1]

Random thoughts
As someone else pointed out, military folks are accustomed to addressing ladies as "Ma'am". We should thank that...person for allowing the BG to stop implying she's one (that would be misleading).

Anyone else (besides that...person) believe she worked harder for her title than the BG worked for his? What has SHE sacrificed?

She's a female Boxer. According to the AKC, that makes her a...?

The country's definitely on the decline when public officials need lessons in common courtesy. God help us all.

""Certification of Live Birth" Is NOT a Birth Certificate."

Actually it is because that is what Hawai'i calls their birth certficate and as Factcheck.org pointed out it is EXACTLY like the the COLB of one of their employees who was born IN Hawai'i at about the same time as Obama.

So again, any proof Obama was born anywhere but Hawai'i, not Hearsay...PROOF. No. Any proof his mother was in Kenya...EVER! No. Any proof she was there in 1961? No. Don't you think Hillary and McCain would have found out exactly where his mom was in August 1961? How do you suppose he got from Kenya to Washington State only a few weeks after his birth? How about the two newspaper announcements in two Hawaiian newspapers announcing his birth just days later? Any immigration documents to show his mother was in Kenya in 1961? Passport stamps that she was or she entered the US in the summer of 1961? Passenger manifests? Any immigration documents conencted to Obama? Did she smuggle him into the US? If so, how?

If so and he is an illegal alien, how did he get a US passport?

You know how stupid all this makes you all sound?

Reply
I just received a reply from Barbara Boxer to my e-mail regarding her lack of class in chiding the general for calling her ma'am. Boxer says she and the general had a very cordial, mutually respectful meeting after the hearing.

I figure since she sent a reply, she had gotten many remarks about her gaff. She doesn't normally send a reply referring directly to your e-mail.

Senator Boxer's Faux Pas
Although our politics differ, I have no ax to grind with Senator Boxer. When I heard the remark, I cringed. No one should publicly humiliate a well meaning person-ever, for any reason. The general was being respectful. The senator had a lapse in judgement. I am sure he overcame his momentary annoyance. I hope she regrets the tenor of her remarks. Civility matters.

Ma’am,
Your totally deplorable, disrespectful, arrogant and egotistical conduct toward a
member of the armed services belies the very reason you have not earned the right
to be called a US Senator; let alone one from the great state of California.
You have no grace, no elegance and no respect for those who have put their lives on

society. You are an embarrassment to the senate.
When you earn the title like the general earned his, perhaps people will address you

respect from me either. Just remember...the people are coming!

Boxer...
...was out of line for admonishing the general. Anyone who has been in the military, unless it has changed since I was in, knows that when you address someone of higher rank it is as either "sir" or "ma'am," unless they are enlisted personnel and work for a living. She should be admonished for her admonishment.

Even though his medical records are sensitive in nature, Senator McCain released all of them; Obama released only a letter testifying to his health, the rest Obama kept secret. Obama's college and law school transcripts are sealed, as are records of his state senate and Congressional actions to the extent possible.

There is persistent pattern of secrecy by Obama, in every aspect of his life, not only his birth. For that reason alone, we are justified in asking that he prove his origins. And why the secrecy if he has nothing to hide?

By the way, you are incorrect - a COLB is not equivalent to an actual birth certificate. They are distinctly different entities.

SCOTUS is divided over whether or not to hear cases against Obama; if one justice switches sides, they can hear these cases. Justice Scalia has said as much publicly.

Last but not least, why has Obama spent over $800,000 retaining the services of three law firms, specifically to block inquiries into his birth? Doesn't this set off any alarm bells with you that something is amiss?

_Senatrix_ is a potentially useful coinage, but it doesn't quite apply to Baa-Baa Boxer. _Senate_ comes from the Latin _senex_, "old man." (The Roman Senate was a council of elders.) The distaff equivalent of _senex_ is _anilis_ (whence the adjective _anile_, the counterpart of _senile_). Although there's no etymological connection, _anilis_ is agreeably close to _anus_ in spelling and pronunciation.

But back to the column. Boxer may have worked hard for the title _Senator_, but the voters gave it to her. It's not hers in perpetuity or by right. Indeed, it's not hers at all. It belongs to her office, which she is manifestly unworthy of.

equal stature?
Dennis, while I generally agree with your point, I think you should provide some information to justify the assertion that the General and Sen. Boxer are of equal stature. My understanding is that technically, the highest ranking military officer is subordinate to the most junior member of the House of Representatives. Do you have any evidence to the contrary and how does that square with civilian control of the military and our Constitution?

Boxer is a disgrace
But so are a lot of politicians at all levels and of both parties.

The only way we can have true change is for ordinary citizens to be involved at a grassroots level and constantly holding these people's feet to the fire on everything at all times.

A very brief history of public idiocy
Jimmy the Greek--black athletes bred that way
Al Gore--It isn't pollution that is harming the environment, but the impurities in the air and water that are harming the environment.
Michael Richards "you're n.......!"
Joe Biden-- "I have a higher IQ than you"
Barack Obama--57 states
Christian Bale--[100% unprintable]
Barbara Boxer--nuff said.

Who will be the next iconic idiot??

The biggest embarrassment
is the fact that the State of California keeps electing this radical defender of partial birth abortion and infanticide. She is truly sick!

The General should
have called Boxer "Senator Maam".

Alice
I think the general addressed her properly as military protocol required. But I actually think "Madame Senator" would have been more proper myself.

The General is well-disciplined
It's too bad he didn't call her "honey".

Akagi
"Louisiana
"Of course, my Californian friends can come to Louisiana."

"Where half the state is under water"

No, only the very Southern part of LA.

"and the rest is under indictment"

No, again.

"and home to one of the worst public school systems in the country if not on the entire planet."

Not true.

"Not to mention you'd have to be a LSU fan I suppose."

I have never been a fan of LSU.

"I'd pass on that offer."

I did not ask you, but Texas has a great school system.

Dr. Evil versus Sen. Boxer
FWIW, Chuck DeVore, a prospective Republican opponent to Boxer, has posted the juxtaposed Dr. Evil/Sen. Boxer interchange on YouTube.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IsGR83Imoto

Boxer hates the Army corp of Engineers
She has an axe to grind with them.

Boxer wanted the ARMY Corp to designate the LA River (a flood Control Channel) into a "navigable river" so the feds could assert authority & do whatever she wants.

Boxer wants to create her own lil west coast NOLA disaster by building a massive high density "Community Redevelopment" along 35 miles of the LA River.

The LA River sits on both an earthquake fault and is LA's main flood drainage channel-the absolute last place a high density development should be built-for obvious reasons but for the dumbest of people.

Alice in NY
Senator Ma'am! That's priceless!!

Oh, No--Not Akagi Again
Akagi is a crashing bore. A pseudointellectual pedant who produces a relentless flow of disinformation, misinformation and half-truths. The little twit does not know when to JUST SHUT UP. But does a crashing bore ever?

Akagi, The Moron:
Didn't you know that factcheck.org is an arm of ACORN/Obama? You stupid twit.

Come up with a reason why a citizen of the US, in posession of an authentic, valid Hawaii Birth Certificate, would even need to obtain a COLB. You pretentious mental midget, you.

Back on topic, Babs the Boob
Did this stupid twit that the morons in CA repeatedly elect think that the General got to his position by drinking lattes? The only thing I can think is that Babs deserves CA and vice versa.

Unfortunately, there used to be an even stupider twit in the Senate. Even more unfortunately, he is now POTUS. God help America. We are SOoooooo SOL. And that is the Obama O in between the S and L.

LouLouise
Don't reply to Akrapi. He started the Commie Manifesto and got stuck on the 2nd page and everything flows from there.

King Elect O has not produced for us public US citizens a valid birth certificate of any kind from anywhere and refuses to reveal his college records:

Best guess--all show Big O is not a natural born citizen.

Eventually, this problem will come out.

That will happen when the left that still doesn't like his Gitmo or Afghanistan policies finally turns on him.

Then some criminal commie will *out* Obanana's records, just like they got at Palin's emails and Joe the Plumber's MVD records.

Until then, go to teapartypatriots.org and find a place to take over the streets.

Akrapi, the cert. of live birth is not
a real Hawaiian birth certificate--that is called the *long form.*

You can write to Hawaii and find out the above is the answer the state itself gives.

Hawaii itself requires the long form when applying for driver's license, passport, and any gov't services.

Why Boxer interrupted the way she did
In the back of liberals' minds, they're still oppressed, or victims of something. They see the GOP, the military, and heterosexual christian males as bullies that have always been in power.

When liberals get elected, or appointed into positions within the state, whether it's local or federal government, they see their position as a means to right the wrongs. They don't see government jobs as service, they see it as a vehicle to fight oppression, real or imagined.

What Boxer was saying in essence was this: "General, you bullies can't push me around anymore and demean me in your chauvenistic way anymore. I'm in power now, I have the title to prove it, and you can't take that away from me or pretend it isn't there. I'm the one questioning YOU, and you will speak when spoken to, understand? It's MY turn, and I waited LONG for this chance, I will NOT have you ruin it by calling me ma'am."

Boxer sees herself as the poor oppressed woman in the chick flick that finally stands up and decks her male boss, much to applauding audiences. She sees herself as the quintessential "empowered woman".

Barf.

NAlcoba
It's a peculiar thing, this species of feminism (for there are many feminisms) that rejects everything about patriarchal society, including the entire male sex.

Mary Daly was a professor at Notre Dame who wrote a number of large books proclaiming that men were not only unnecessary but an absolute hindrance to the development of a just society. If I remember rightly, she advocated research on parthenogenesis and thus the elimination of all the ugly men (that is, all men).

She was fired by that rather conservative school some time after (perhaps because of) her requirement that men not be permitted to enroll in her classes.

I confess that, as a male, I found her books unpleasant, though I requested that the library at my college purchase them in the interest of ideological diversity.

Had she learned of my intervention on her behalf, I suppose she would have written to my department chair and demanded that I be fired for snooping into her business.

Yes, barf.

West Texan
You have to excuse Akagi, I think because he's foreign born he hasn't a clue about our Constitutional requirements.

I wonder if he would dispute the opinions of
Senator Leahy (of the Leaky sort) or Michael Chertoff when they discussed the issue (re: McCain) at a hearing April 3, 2008

Leahy asked Chertoff (a fmr. Fed judge) about any doubts he might have regarding McCain's qualifications. This was a couple of days prior to the Senate passing a resolution that Obama agreed with and voted for.(April 10, 2008)

Chertoff: "My assumption and my understanding is that if you are born of American parents you are naturally a Natural Born Citizen.
Leahy: "That is mine too.

PLURAL..Parents/Citizens Obama had ONE AMerican parent who was a minor at the time of his birth. (singular)
His Father, Obama Sr. was a citizen of Great Britain via the British Naturalization Act of 1948; and this citizenship was passed down by law to his children including Barach Obama;
Obama was born in 1961 as a British subject, then when Kenya rec'd it independence in 1963,
a Kenyan citizen under his father until age 21 when he had to choose. This made him a dual citizen if indeed he was born in Hawaii.
Obama admitted on his website that he had Kenyan citizenship and let it lapse.
So regardless of any speculation, he doesn't fit the criteria as enumerated by the FOUNDERS
unless Obama was born prior to September 1787.

Akagi, it doesn't matter what you think about this Constitutional requirement, it's there and can only be changed by an Amendment. It's not so stupid, it was a wise move on the part of the Founders, to prevent divided loyalties and we are wondering just where Obama's lie after his obsequious bow to the Saudi King.

I think that this
article was very interesting and the analysis of liberalism and our degenerating society seemed accurate.

As far as I am concerned it is very simple. Barbara Boxer and the rest of the current crop of far leftists in government and the media are despicable. She is not fit to shine that general's shoes.

Heres what we do know.

"Small minds concern themselves with small things."

Boxer has a small mind.

I commend the general...
for not calling her by a title she truly deserved.

Dogwood
I met Chuck DeVore in April at the local Tea party where he spoke. I was very impressed. There is hope.

AS for the Senator who seems to have her boxers in a twist. My Parents raised me to use the terms Sir & Ma'am as a sign of respect. I still use them today. She obviously has a different idea of the definition of respect.

I think she is correct. The batch of our current politicians hasn't EARNED any respect. I believe they have soiled the once honorable "service" our politicians once provided.
Going forward I will use the term Senator whenever addressing our elected officials no matter their status or rank.
Kind of like saying "have a nice day" when ya really mean firetruck off.

Kenneth - Reply # 91
Thanks Kenneth for your memorable story! It's always a joy to come across some good, old-fashioned, side-splitting American humor.

You're quote of P.T. Barnum also brought back a memory of yesteryear. It was 1964, a good time in higher education when professors were professors and students were afraid.

Sitting in American Government, a freshman class for students at the University of Missouri, Professor Lyman T. Sargent began his lecture with this quote "The Masses Are A*ses." My, how times don't change.

Best Regards,

Shenyang, China

B.Boxer has...
...proven she is not worthy of the title she so desires by her idiotic actions. If I ever have the misfortune of encountering her I'll refer to her as "Barb" or "Hey, lady".

As far as Obama's birth certificate, I kind of figure the guy is legit (I may not like it). He should really put this whole thing to bed and just give up his bona-fides. Why not?

Haste Makes Waste
. . . old-fashion
. . . your

Senator and maam is too good
How about Dike or Lesbie. She would probably qualify for those titles which would be more fitting for her demeanor

This was indeed....
....a new low point from a government entity that excels in achieving new levels of declination.

JD's Handsome Son...............
What the heck.......? Hot Air just like Boxer...

I GET IT NOW !
Barbara Boxer's title is more important than her country.

Through the years in the business environment I have known many people who determine their success by the title they attained, not their acomplishments. I heard a business owner once say, "I can't give them a raise, so I'll give them a title." Too bad, many unqualified Senators get both.

DON'T BLAME BOXER
Boxer is usually in a drug induced stupor. She's not at fault if she mixes up her meds. Blame CA voters.

HEY, LADIES !
Ladies: Boxer, Pelosi, Feinstein, Clinton, Sontamayor and Napolitano. You ladies are an embarressment to my gender.

We worked hard in the 1960's and 1970's to make sure women had equal rights, equal pay and every opportunity to accomplish whatever we were capable of doing. With these new opportunities came a responsibility to be the best you could be with integrity, honesty, and
fairness. You six ladies listed above do not represent any of these virtues. Did you miss something along the way or were our efforts in vain?

Perhaps the guys were right all along, you belong in the kitchen.

REBA
TX is just plain embarrassing.

Boxer, pelosi, finstien, clinton
nolopotono and sotomayor. You don't ever want to meet me anywhere and expect any type of respect.

You are all failers and certainly do not belong in our Country as leaders. Get back in the cribs or whereevere you came from.

By the way, ca does not have the only women failers, look at az, il and other states.

The General's answer

The General's answer should have more properly been "Yes, Ma'am."

Good article and good points, Dennis.

Respect
99 % of our Politicans do not deserve any respect. They are not working for We The People, they only work for Lobby and Special Interest Groups that keep their off shore bank accts. full. Until American's wake the hell up, nothing is ever going to change , the Politicans are going to keep sticking it up our wazoo's. Rather you are a Democrat, Republican or Independent you better think about your next vote on who will serve you honorably or those that are going to keep sticking it to you. We need total changes in Washington, Term Limits, Paying of Social Security, and no more same pay for rest of their lifes.

Boxer's comment:
Sorry, but you and all the other conservatives (of whom I am one) are wrong on this issue. Here's why:
--Everyone, you, I, senator or a cocktail server, has the right to decide what name he/she wishes to be known and addressed by. If she had asked the General to please call her Barbara, would we be as upset?
--Having spent 24 years as an Army officer, I can tell you that the use of titles is very common among military personnel. Of course "sir" is more frequently used, but "Colonel Smith", "General", and "Sergeant Jones" are also common and perfectly acceptable.
--Of course Boxer is touchy. What woman isn't? I have never known one who had the same easy acceptance of others' personal quirks as do most men. The hyper-sensitivity of many, if not most, women is an on-going problemn for males in not only the armed forces but also law enforcement organizations and indeed in many ordinary workplaces. This is a fact of life, men and women are different, and what works and is acceptable in one context might well be totally offensive in the other. It's tough, but we have to get used to it.
Boxer in this case is entirely correct.

You and all the other conservative commentators are wrong on this one. I am a conservative but this is a phony issue. Here's why:
--Everyone, senator, ballplayer, cocktail server, and you and I, have the right to decide how we choose to be addressed. Would we be all over her if she had asked the General to please call her Barbara? I think not.
--Having served 24 years as an Army officer, I can tell you that the use of titles among military personnel is very common and entirely correct. Of course "sir" and "ma'am" are commonly used also, but to state that the General is "trained" to only say that is wrong. On countless occasions I have referred to a superior as "Colonel Smith", or General Jones", and to my subordinates it has always been by their titles,ie. "Sergeant", "Private", etc.
--Of course Boxer is touchy. She is a woman. Is there a woman anywhere who is not more "touchy" than her male counterparts? The "hyper-sensitivity" of many women poses an on-going problem for males not only in the military but in law enforcement agencies, fire departments, and indeed in many just ordinary business operations. This is a fact of life in modern America and we simply have to accept it and deal with it.
Boxer is right on this one (maybe the only time).

The Media is acting Like Racists
Your penultimate paragraph makes an excellent point – one I recently brought out in my blog. (www.tom-reid.com). When we do not hold people, and especially our elected leaders to the highest standards we do ourselves a terrible disservice. And when we do not uphold those high standards of everyone we are acting in an insidiously racists way. Pogo taught us something the liberal press has not yet realized, we have met the enemy and they is us. By giving President Obama so much slack, they are in fact, acting in the most racist of ways.

And as to Ms. Boxer, m’am, you have worked hard to earn a few other titles by which you are referred so perhaps we should start using them towards you as well.

Your comment:
"TX is just plain embarrassing."

Yup Pordner, I lived in Illinois when my husband was sationed at Rantoul AFB. Talk about embarrassing. In the 20th Century Illinois has given us Al Calpone, Jesse Jackson, Mayor Daley & machine, Blagojevich, George Rockwell, Hillary Clinton, Ron Burris and Barack Obama. Don't do us anymore favors.

The only good thing to come out of Illinois since A. Linclon is A. Stevenson, R. Reagan and D. Van Dyke. Their numbers are few.

How about call her "Ex-Senator"
If California re-elects her next time around, they're just as petty, clueless, and embarrassing as she is.

It is so unbelievable to me, that her TITLE (the prestige, the power that come with it) is her motivation, and not a deep desire to serve the people of her state and of her country. There's just so much selfishness and arrogance in that attitude.

Ma'am, you don't EARN the title Senator, it is a PRIVILEGE bestowed upon you by the people of your state. YOU should call each and everyone one of your constituents ma'am and sir, with humility.

Jeez, where do these narcissists come from?

Reba
I'm another former Illinoisan. Born and raised there, married there, worked there, came to TX.

I still love some things about the state. For one thing it has the prettiest state song in the 50 (not the 57 O thought there were).

People should check it out on the Web and play it on their computers. A true love song for a political entity that deserves better politicians than it gets.

I was there during the Kerner scandal. I'll never forget attending a speech by his wife at the state fair in Springfield. She was almost falling-down drunk at the time. Talk about a VIVID memory!

Where do these narcissists come from?
California, lol, Chicago -- wherever liberals can be found. . .

Boxer the buffoon
In better days, this vain hag would have been publically tarred and feathered. We do not live in better days anymore.

Former Chicagoan myself
The only good thing I can think about it right now is Pizzeria Dewey's (might be called something else now). But they can KEEP their dang politicians.

I'm in Seattle now, or "Berserkley North", enviro-whacko capital. A lone voice in the wilderness. At least our Senators (Murray and Cantwell) don't get enough limelight to showcase their liberalism. I'll write them and ask nicely if they can pull Babs Boxer aside and say, "Do us all a favor and get over yourself, PLEASE."

Greg
"In better days, this vain hag would have been publically tarred and feathered. We do not live in better days anymore."

Hey, wow, so that's completely reasonable. We should totally tar and feather people who commit minor social offenses.

Perhaps, just perhaps, some flaws possessed by liberals are incidental, and not rooted in the vile soil of liberalism?

Perhaps, if conservatives want to be taken seriously, they shouldn't come across as frothing zealots who turn every issue into one of innate liberal evil vs. purehearted Amurrican conservative goodness?

Nah; that'd be waaaaay too complicated.

Co-workers
Barbara Boxer is a person in authority just as the General. Co-workers what is going on??

Feinstein is a Fine-Swine
What kind of moral integrity would you expect from a senator from the land of fruits and nuts. She's like a NASCAR driver always steering left.

When she asked the General, "You know, do me a favor... could you say 'senator' instead of 'ma'am?'? It would have been hilarious if he had said "Yes MA'AM!" Even better if he had said, "Yes Madam!". Madam as in charge of bordello.

Oldprof - TX
Glad you finally made it to Texas. We're pretty independent minded down here. Many of us still have that old pioneer spirit and values of our Founding Fathers.

One thing I did enjoy about Illinois were their Indian Summers. Never have them in Texas where I live, but oh those winters.

I'll check out Illinois's state song. Thanks

I Meant Boxer not Feinstein...same thing
I was thinking Feinstein when I meant Boxer. Same difference, really.

Oldprof - TX
"By thy rivers gently flowing,
O'er thy prairies verdant growing, Illinois,"

The melody is lovely, a wee bit of ye 'ole Irish lilt to it.

Thanks for sharing.

Hypothesis
California is a state in the United States of America. Barbara Boxer was duly elected to represent that state in the US Senate by the people of her state. That state is virtually belly-up supported by the royalty in America: celebrities, the governor being of that ilk also. So what's the theory?

Ma'am, you're a clueless clown clinging to an imagined title in a land of make-believe and infecting the rest of this country with your psychotic narcissism. Simple and an apparent logical deduction according to the facts . . .

Reba
I sometimes lead discussions of recent novels for a local book club. A recent one was set partly in Illinois, so I handed out a sheet containing the lyrics to that song and played it on the harmonica (a musical hobby of mine going all the way back to 1948). They LOVED it.

The TX state song doesn't really stand up to it.

But I like not having a state income tax or Chicago politicians.

Reba #14
You might change your mind about Lincoln being good. Try reading "The Real Lincoln" or "Lincoln Unmasked" by Thomas J. DiLorenzo. Mr. DiLorenzo is a professor of economics at the Sellinger School of Business and Management at Loyola College in Maryland and to add to the credibility, the foreword is written by Walter E. Williams: John M. Olin Distinguished Professor of Ecomonics, George Mason University

THANKS DARRELL
I'll get a copy of "The Real Lincoln". I've been a serious reader of the Civil War for over 20 years, but there is always something that turns up historically to change perspective. I know that Lincoln was not totally anti-slavery as history has shown him to be.

I am now reading "The American Lion" by Jon Meacham. It is about Andrew Jackson's years in the White House, our first president of the Democratic Party. Believe it or not, the government of the 1830's parallels our government today in many ways. Interesting read.

Senator Embarrassment
In my opinion, this episode only shows to what degree the military has deteriorated. Had it been General Eisenhower, a man of utmost decency and civility, the response would have been, "Ma'am, I'm a soldier, and as long as I shall wear this uniform, I'll say, 'Ma'am'. Since you are obviously unable to understand, please allow me to say, 'Good bye,
Ma'am, and have a nice day!", and with those words, General Eisenhower would have left the building, and with those words this General should have left the building.
-MA

Shocked! Outrage!
This is the most important thing that has ever happened in the Senate. Ever. Keep up the great work Denny. The GOP will be in the minority forever with "thinkers" like you leading the charge.

Surprised.
I was surprised to see Prager using the term WASP. If he believes in creating a color blind society he should just use the term ASP which does reflect a value system.

Where's the problem?
As long as other Senators are addressed as sir or ma'am, where's the problem?

I'm reminded of a scene in a movie (one of the Airplane movies, I think) where a passenger corrects a stewardess who called him "sir" by telling her he was a doctor.

Later, when a medical doctor was desperately needed, the stewardess asked him for his medical help, since he had said he was a doctor. The man then confessed he had a Ph.D., not a medical degree.

How About 'Public Servant'?
Would the Senator have been insulted if the general had called her "Public Servant Boxer" or "Servant of the Californians"? Probably, because it's not about her constituency. It's all about her.

Get the President Involved
The president should have called Boxer and told her if she ever talked to one of his Generals like that agin he would make sure she wouldn't be elected to dog catcher.

American's embarassment: Obama
Well, here we are AGAIN discussing usurper Obama, as if he were a REAL PRESIDENT, when in fact he doesn’t even meet the basic ELIGIBILITY requirements to BE president (not born on American soil). It’s not a small matter of him not providing a real US birth certificate when asked by the American people, it’s that HE DOESN’T HAVE ONE TO BEGiN WITH because he was BORN IN KENYA.

Which by the way, makes every bill Obama signs and every THING he DOES acting as president, iLLEGAL. And pretty much means if we let this go on we are breaking the law right along with him. CONSTITUTIONAL CRISES!

Come join me and help put up another billboard around the USA:
“WHERE’S THE BIRTH CERTIFICATE?”

i'll keep this short and sweet...
Boxer is a piece of you know what. End of story.
Blowfish out.

Re: MoniQue
Factcheck.org has already debunked the claim that Obama's birth certificate is fake.

http://www.factcheck.org/elections-2008/born_in_the_usa.htm l

Factcheck?
There are few better causes to recheck facts than when Factcheck says something... and in the opposite direction from what Factcheck says.

Madam Boxer
Politicians rank right up there with the world's oldest profession. Thus ma'am - short for Madam - seems nearly interchangeable with Senator.
