Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

On the other hand, no religious or secular moral system ever advocated same-sex marriage. Whereas advocating interracial marriage was advocating something approved of by every religious and secular moral tradition of America and the West, advocating same-sex marriage does the very opposite -- it advocates something that defies every religious and secular moral tradition. Those who advocate redefining marriage are saying that every religious and secular tradition is immoral. They have no problem doing this because they believe they are wiser and finer people than all the greatest Jewish, Christian and humanist thinkers who ever lived.

But as objectionable as hubris is, false comparisons are worse. And there is no comparison between different races and the different genders. There are no inherent racial differences; there are significant differences between the sexes. To the extent that racial groups are different, they are only because their cultures differ. But a black man's nature is not different from that of a white man, an Asian man, an Hispanic man.

The same is not true of sex differences. Males and females are inherently different from one another. We now know that even their brains differ. And those differences are significant. Thus, to oppose interracial marriage is indeed to engage in bigotry, but to oppose same-sex marriage is not. It simply shares the wisdom of every moral system that preceded us -- society is predicated on men and women bonding with one another in a unique way called "marriage."

Comparing the prohibition of same-sex marriage to prohibiting interracial marriage is ultimately a way of declaring the moral superiority of proponents of same-sex marriage to proponents of keeping marriage defined as man-woman. And it is a way of avoiding hard issues such as whether we really want all children to grow up thinking it doesn't matter if they marry a boy or a girl and whether we really want to abolish forever the ideal of husband-wife based family.

Those who wish to redefine marriage for the first time in Jewish, Christian or secular humanist history may offer any honest arguments they wish. Comparing the prohibition of same-sex marriage to prohibiting interracial marriage is not one of them.

Cindy, get your facts straight
1)The Bible is quite in favor of interracial marriage as Moses married a Black woman and when Aaron and Miriam objected they were both chastised and punished for it. 2)No one is talking about aprobation of gays. That is why we hear ENDLESSLY about gays in media and entertainment and many people are just getting sick of it. 3)Prager stated that the Judeo-Christian tradition was not opposed to interracial marriage. That is correct. For most of the history of the Western world until the 17th century, there were NO PROHIBITIONS against interracial marriage. It was an imposition of racism put on marriage.

Now let's get some things clear. 1)2 gay men or women of any racial background cannot produce children on their own and raise them as mother and father. However 2 people of opposite sexes yet different races can produce children and raise them as mother and father. 2)There is no significant different between the races as Prager points out yet you ignore. There are enormous differences between the sexes, which again you ignore. 3)Societies have viewed and treated homosexuality with praise in literature and art such as in China and Japan, yet never had same-sex marriage. Were they engaging in hatred of gays or aprobation? Of course not. They had marriage as between men and women as marriage is primarily to set up a home to bear children and provide for them. The wants of adults are far subodrinate to the needs of children and society.

Slavery was considered moral for eons
Prager goes on and on about how prohibitions on interracial marriage were always considered immoral. That's a flat out lie. 35 states in the Union had laws on their books prohibiting interracial marriage when the Supreme Court held such laws were unconstitutional in Loving v. Virginia. Moreover, the Bible was regularly used to support anti-miscegenation laws. Same goes for slavery.

Slavery is actually the better analogy. Slavery was widespread on the entire planet until 150 years ago. Every culture practiced it. Slavery is in the Bible (there are long passages devoted to the taking of slaves and the proper treatment of slaves). The fact that eons practiced slavery doesn't make it "moral" under today's sensibilities. The idea that someone could keep another human in captivity, forcing them to serve, is repugnant today. But for many thousands of years, it was completely ok.

So, what constitutes "moral" behavior shifts as the human race matures.
