Why a Black Artist Replaced the National Anthem

Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

A third contribution of the left's values to what Marie did is the elevation of the artist to the status of demigod. If the feelings of mere mortals can determine what is right and wrong, the feelings of an artist are even more important.

There is no hubris like that of many contemporary artists. At some point in the second half of the 20th century the belief arose that artists formed a moral elite.

Given the moral idiocies that have been more the norm than the exception among 20th century artists -- the countless artists who have glorified Communism, Fascism and Nazism -- facts alone render the idea of artist-as-moral-beacon foolish. But even in theory the idea has no merit. There is nothing in art that renders an artist more morally elevated than a sanitation worker.

Sure enough, being an artist was Marie's justification for her dishonesty. Asked on her website, "Wasn't this dishonest?" she responded:

"I can see how it may be perceived that way. But I looked at it a different way: I am an artist. I cannot apologize for that. It goes with the risky territory of being an artist." Marie also told the press, "I don't think it is necessary for artists to ask permission to express themselves artistically."

Artists are above morality. While you and I should not deceive people, artists may.

The fourth contribution of the left to the Marie episode is its constant reinforcement of a sense of victimhood among all Americans who are not male, white, heterosexual and Christian. The moral consequence of this is that the victim, like the artist, like the feelings-determine-morality individual, can do more or less whatever he pleases.

It should be noted that many individuals on the left condemned what Marie did. And it is not for me to judge whether they did so out of conviction or political necessity; one must generally judge actions, not motives. But to the sincere liberal and leftist, I ask: Do you not see how left/liberal values made this episode possible?

Individuals on the left may condemn what happened in Denver City Hall on July 1, 2008. But, in fact, it was a triumph of leftist values.

Final note: If you do not now fear for America's future, please go on the Internet and watch the Denver city officials respectfully watch a woman substitute her own song for that of the National Anthem. Watch how not a single official stopped her, or even demanded that the National Anthem be sung afterward. And listen to the applause. Then you will fear for our country's future.

What is right in my own eyes......
individual liberty is right and should be left also. One forefather put liberty this way, "It is not your right to do as you please, but your right to do as you ought."

What this gal did is relativism right to the core. Doing what she feels is right in her own eyes.

She was asked to perform a specific and chose to rebel doing her own thing. That is pretty typical of many Americans. If you can not do what asked, it is not your right to grand stand.

Grand stand is and comes when you have no other choices, but to do or refuse and issues are made of your refusal.

Now for multiculturism is a defined term to certain groups only. Afterall, my forefathers came with their very defined Swedish culture and yes, we eat Lutafisk on holidays and other cultural idenities. On the other hand we do not have our national holidays or events, because we melted into the society. That is where many cultures have refused to go and find mutual assimilation and leave their particular idenities at their doorstep, but push it on everyone else. As if it is an liberty, when it is doing what I want and not what I ought, by not being more inclusive by giving up cultural specific idenities.

That's Denver under the Hick for you....
It surprises me not at all that the National Anthem was bumped at a solemn celebration hosted by the City of Denver. In many ways, Denver is a metaphor for the waning days of the United States as a moral and political force in the world.

Denver may deny it now, but the "guidance" in the Denver Police manual stands that officers shall not pursue the issue of whether or not someone they have detained is an illegal alien. If they learn that this is true, they are not to charge the person concerned, or even notify Immigrations and Customs Enforcement.

The process is a very clear criminal conspiracy on the part of the city of Denver's mayors and city council, implemented by city police leadership, to systematically violate Federal immigration law.

Of course, President Bush's vote-mongering among Hispanics has led him to prevent Federal officials and law enforcers from pursuing evident illegal aliens who have been attracted by Denver's "Sanctuary City" policies - when the Bush Justice Department has concerned itself with the question of illegal aliens lately, it's been to gerrymander local elections in places like Port Chester, NY - to assure that illegal aliens living there are adequately represented on the city council.

Bill Clinton and George W. Bush should both apologize to the citizens of this country for failing to enforce our laws dealing with immigration. But the city of Denver has also contributed to the problem to an inexcusable extent.
