Was the Copenhagen Global Warming Summit Walk-Out a Win for the U.S.?

Who is Barack Obama? The truth is that neither Sen. Obama's supporters nor opponents can answer that question. We know he is bright, eloquent and charismatic. But if he were elected president of the United States, he would be the least known man to be elected in modern American history, perhaps in all of American history.

That is why the remarks and views of those closest to Sen. Obama take on much more significance than the remarks and views of the people closest to Sens. Hillary Clinton and John McCain. Whether we like or dislike either of those two candidates, we have every reason to believe we know them.

The people closest to Sen. Obama -- and by his own account the two greatest living influences on his thinking -- are his wife Michelle and his pastor, Jeremiah A. Wright Jr., of Chicago's Trinity United Church of Christ. And each of them has made comments about America that could dissuade Americans from voting for Sen. Obama at least until they can get to know him better.

On Feb. 18, in Milwaukee, Wis., Michelle Obama announced, "For the first time in my adult life I am proud to be an American." Anyone in public life must be given slack regarding comments they later regret. But on the same day in another speech in Madison, Wis., Mrs. Obama said virtually the same thing: "For the first time in my adult lifetime I am really proud to be an American."

Sen. Obama later explained his wife's remarks this way: "What she meant was, this is the first time that she's been proud of the politics of America."

I do not believe that Sen. Obama's explanation is valid. I think Mrs. Obama said what she meant and meant what she said. But even if Sen. Obama's reformulation of his wife's remarks is valid, the fact remains that the closest person in the world to Barack Obama has never been proud of the politics of America, that it took her husband's primary wins to change a lifelong lack of pride in anything about America's political life. That's troubling on its own -- for his and her contempt for American politics. And it is even more troubling for its narcissism -- do Sen. Obama and his wife believe that only his success has made American politics worthy of pride?

We are therefore confronted with either a contempt for America -- if the original statement reflects Michelle Obama's thinking -- or some real narcissism on the part of both Sen. and Mrs. Obama. That narcissism is easily demonstrated. Just imagine if Hillary Clinton or John McCain had said they supported their spouse's view that until their primary victories, they had never been proud of their country's politics. Either of them would have looked foolish before the American people. That is why many believe Sen. Obama has been getting a relatively free ride in the American media, which largely adore him.

But it gets worse. The other closest person in Sen. Obama's life, the man whom the senator calls his mentor, the man who married Barack and Michelle Obama, who baptized his daughters, who inspired the title of his book "The Audacity of Hope," and whose church Sen. Obama has been attending for 20 years, has been a voice of anti-white racism and anti-American venom. In a widely viewed sermon from 2003, the Rev. Wright shouted from his pulpit, among other things:

"The government gives them the drugs, builds bigger prisons, passes a three-strike law and then wants us to sing 'God Bless America.' No, no, no, God damn America, that's in the Bible for killing innocent people. God damn America for treating our citizens as less than human. God damn America for as long as she acts like she is God and she is supreme."

He then went on to blame America for 9/11 since America has been engaged in state terrorism that has murdered far more innocents than were killed in America on 9/11. We should recall that when some conservative Christian leaders suggested that America had in some ways brought on 9/11 by its sins, these people were read the riot act by the mainstream media.

According to the Associated Press, Wright "also gave a sermon in December comparing Obama to Jesus, promoting his candidacy and criticizing his rival, Hillary Rodham Clinton. 'Barack knows what it means to be a black man living in a country and a culture that is controlled by rich white people,' Wright told a cheering congregation. 'Hillary can never know that. Hillary ain't never been called a nigger.'"

Sen. Obama says he was not present when the Rev. Wright said these things.

Maybe so. But it is hard to believe that Sen. Obama has never heard such things from his Afro-centric minister. Additionally, one must ask why a man raised entirely by a white mother and white grandparents after being abandoned as a small child by his black father would choose to identify so fully with such a pastor. Coupled with his wife's remarks, fair-minded people -- whether Democrat or Republican -- may well conclude that until we know more about who Sen. Barack Obama is, he ought not be the Democrats' candidate for president of the United States. His two greatest living influences have raised red flags.

In fact, if Shelby Steele (who also has a white mother and black father) is right, we should not only be waiting until we better know who Barack Obama is. We probably need to wait until Barack Obama better knows who he is.

Pretzels on the Left
I agree with Mr. Prager. I've also watched curiously as many on the left have twisted themselves into pretzels trying to paint republicans as hypocrites because of things said by pastors such as the late Jerry Falwell and John Hagee.

They ignore the obvious point that getting someone's endorsement is far different from being one of their followers.

I caution the left when using that logic, because I don't think the left wants to be accused of being followers of some of those who want them to win.

Who's scarier, him or her?
He's a lightweight - she's a lightweight. He wouldn't have come this far this fast if he weren't black. She wouldn't have come this far if she hadn't married down.

The choice is between an articulate airhead and a screaming ideologue. If I have to choose between the two, I'll take the airhead.

He's more likely to be harmlessly ineffective.

Barack who ?
How much did the country know about George Bush when he ran for President? He was a Governor, not a national figure. We didn't even know he had a DUI. Not that it would have stopped people from voting for him, but why did he never mention it?

Sen. Obama has been a state senator, a federal senator, a lawyer, Harvard review editor, a civil rights attorney, a person who has worked to help improve social and political change. His educational grades were much better than President Bush's grades.

Why is it OK if top Republican leaders and Presidents seek the support, endorsement and affiliate themselves with the hate filled comments and religious leadership of people like; Pat Robertson, Jerry Falwell, etc., etc.....

I see no difference in Sen. McCain distancing himself from right-wing religious leaders comments, or Sen. Obama distancing himself from left-wing religious leaders comments.

The fact that this was Obama's pastor: Sen. Obama states he never heard such statements come from this person, are you calling Obama a liar? Are you saying Obama hates America, or is a race baiter?

The only hate going on here, is your hate of Sen. Obama. Using the same kind of false accusations that/or can, be used against Republican candidates, of questionable, personal relationships. It's OK for Republicans, but not Democrats? !

Maybe Mrs. Obama is proud that for the first time in History a woman, or a black may be the President of the United States. I think that shows progress in our society, and I'm proud of that. Eliminating intolerance, improving inclusion, breaking the glass celling of the top leadership position in the world, is something to be proud of and something we should seek to do.

If you think having a black President doesn't mean more than his policies, you are wrong. He will be a role model for millions of non-whites, and that is a good thing. Role models mean a lot to society.

It Is Not Hate
We need to have a fair and equal way to understand those who would have us grant them great power over us. As "Time" said above,

"The only hate going on here, is your hate of Sen. Obama. Using the same kind of false accusations that/or can, be used against Republican candidates, of questionable, personal relationships. It's OK for Republicans, but not Democrats? ! "

It is not hate to question. You have had your chance to vote against G.W. Bush for his views or behavior. Was that hate? It is not hate to vote against Obama. It is not because he is black, green, or blue. The only hate here is the hate spoken, nay, shouted, by Mr. Obama's mentor.

It is entirely reasonable to question the motives of a man who has clearly lied about conveniently being absent on the days that Wright said these things. Great power is only granted after we look into the soul of those who seek it. As we look deeper into the soul of Barak Obama, we see darkness that we didn't see on the surface. That is not hate. That is the American people doing our due diligence, and finding the man wanting.

Tweaky Time
Tweaky, there's another candidate: John McCain.

Time, choosing someone based on their gender or on their racist makes you a sexist or genderist and a racist, or as they say in England a racialist. When you said "He will be a role model for millions of non-whites" to what were you referring? Why? Because he breathes? What if in office he starts putting in place racist policies? What about his values? Since when did the values of someone running for the position of US president NOT matter?

What happened to Ameritocracy allowing the best to rise to the top? Are you even capable of assessing competence and values or do you have a knee jerk reaction "Vote for Black Man." "Vote for woman." What if the republicans motto was "vote for old white male?" Would you like it? Would you approve? My bet is "No."

TIME writes: Barack who?
'Sounds like this is straight from TIME, the magazine and media empire, just another swooning gloss-over "I LOVE OBAMA NO MATTER WHAT" endorsement of Obamassiah...the second coming, walks on water candidate...You have to be on heavy meds and possibly in a coma to believe anything this candidate says...America is in grave danger from the ObamaNation cult that is sweeping the country...

Yes, (Mrs & Mr Obama) = f(Rev.Wright)

or just click on my name

Call it what it is
Obama is a liar. I was a member of a large Evangelical church for three years that was led by a dominant senior pastor, who was well known for his primary message.

You couldn't possibly be in a church for 20 years, and not know what the senior pastor believes. Especially, if you claim him as your mentor.

Prager please wake up?
You better spend your time figuring out why Obama and Hillary are here and giving the Republican party fits, right? Did Obama not come on board, so to speak, during the very time when the Federal Government was in full control of the Republican party? Yes, especially during the first four years with George W. as President, rather as King George. Yes, as the Republican party corrupted royally what can one expect? Besides my Republican party is now so blind that Ron Paul is considered an idiot. He is the only one worthy to be President, for which I would take time to vote. I hate Imperialism with a passion, into which the Republican party has converted itself into; the real recipe for slow demise, as history is prove.

H D Schmidt writes:Prager please wake up
It is not just the Republican party that is corrupt, the Demos are too. I don't feel that the 3 running for POTUS are the best we have to offer. As for Ron Paul, he is a nit wit. I live in Texas. My choice was Tom Tancredo and illegal immigration is my main concern. I believe that Obama is evil and has a racist agenda. All the change that people hoping for may not be what they are expecting, for non-blacks anyway.

Obama is definitely
a liar when he professes not to have heard any of Wright's inflammatory statements, because last April he discussed with Wright the possibility that he may have to distance himself from Wright because some of Wright's sermons "get pretty rough." And, of course, it's just not credible for him to claim a 20-year influencing relationship and friendship with Wright and now say he was unaware of the vitriol. But of course he needed the claim of Christianity to counter the Muslim rumors. Out of the frying pan into the fire.

Dennis
have you noticed any lapel flag pins on Barack lately? Or did you see him put his hand over his heart during the National Anthem? Oh, thats right, he does not do either of those things.

Support Barack = Support an un-american racist!

The REAL Barak, the REAL Hillary ??
If you want to discover both Barak Obama's and Hillary Clinton's deepest ideological roots, simply Google Search each of their names with those of SAUL ALINSKY and ANTONIO GRAMSCI -- and their infamous "March Through The Institutions" method of assuming control over one and all ("one" meaning you and "all" meaning everyone and everything else, as well).

Jim Guirard -- TrueSpeak.org

Obama - "The Manchurian Candidate"
His wife and Rev. Wright are not the only personages of consequence we shoould be worried about. His friendships with former leftists/60's radicals and crooked businessmen should not be excluded from thorough examination. The Dems should be even more concerned about Obama's past and his hidden biases, as their party would have to suffer the consequences in future elections. Senator Dodd's comments about past association being irrelevant are insane - - we are all judged by the company we keep.

Flat earth
I wonder why Prager seems to think the earth, and this country, are flat and one dimensional, and that we are best served by those with a narrowness to their views. Face it, racism is still alive and well. I would much prefer a president who understands the nuances of the electorate than one who imagines we all march in lockstep with one another. I will make no excuses for Wright's over-the-top rhetoric, nor the foolishness of his comments vis-a-vis HIV/AIDS, but there is a great deal of truth to much of what he said. Why sweep it under the rug of unreality? Far better that a president can see what motivates individuals and nations than one who lives in a cacoon imagining the world is simple and plain-vanilla.

Ohg Rea Tone on Rev. Wright
This is not so much about race as it is about culture - one has to grasp the context..... "Church today is somewhat of an enigma. There are so many different kinds of churches that represent so many different kinds of social, racial, and ethnic groups that it is increasingly difficult to define Christianity. It is, as well, increasingly difficult to define the nature of a pastor....."

Alan
other than the other!

Are you referencing the 911 attacks, or our foriegn policy that makes the world hate us, or could it be the part about God is D**ning America!

Alan
Oh, I forgot, I think the world is flat too!

Barack Obama
In his books, Barack Obama has told the story of the family into which he was born; about a father from Kenya whom he barely knew, who left when Barack was age 2, and about his white American mother from Kansas who along with his father was a college student at the University of Hawaii in Honolulu. By age 6, young Barack was already living in Jakarta with his mother and his Indonesian step father before moving back to Hawaii at age 10, to be raised by his maternal grandparents when his mother and her second husband divorced. His "birthright," says Senator Obama, was that he was given love, a good education, and hope.
Over the years Barack Obama had bonding experiences with white and black relatives and with Asian family members amidst an understandable struggle to find his own identity. The opportunity that Hawaii offered him to experience a variety of cultures in a climate of mutual respect became an integral part of his world view and is the basis for the values that he holds most dear.
Barack's Mother was an agnostic or an atheist and he was raised in a non religious atmosphere. Apparently Pastor Wright "brought him to Jesus" and Barrack Obama was always very grateful to him for that. Wright also married Barack and Michelle. It’s not hard to understand how Barack Obama overlooked some of Pastor Wright's short comings given this situation much like one does with the flaws of a member of one’s own family. But Barack Obama has repudiated Wright's comments and clearly loves America. Just read the last page of his book "The audacity of Hope" published in 2006. Barack Obama is the candidate for president, not Jeremiah Wright.

The real question is
WHO ARE YOU?

WHO ARE WE?

WE HAVE DEFINETELY LOST OUR WAY, FOLKS.

GOD NO LONGER PLAYS ANY PART IN OUR LIVES.

WE HAVE DISMISSED HIM.

WE ARE DAMNED........fools.

SSGT- on "God D**ning America"
I'll leave the "God D**ning America", or any other people or part of the world, to the Pat Robertsons, Jerry Falwells, John Hagees, and Jeremiah Wrights, etc. As for 9/11, or our foreign policy, I believe Ron Paul called it backwash.

Alan
of course you will. Nice try at an attempt to dodge the direct question to you. Any other helpful comments you would like to make? I thought not!!! Just like a lib puke! DUCK!

Obama and the Street Meltdowns
We are witnessing simultaneous stockmarket and Democrat candidate meltdowns.

Sen. Obama, the product of an interracial marriage, has not transcended his background, but obviously has chosen his African heritage as the dominant influence on his life. The fact that as a supposedly highly educated Harvard graduate that he would support Rev. Wright with his baggage of vile, idiotic sermons gives the lie to his carefully cultivated figure as a transcendent leader "who will bring us all together."

That support obviously will guarantee a majority of African American voters but American white males, who historically pick U.S. presidents, will desert this candidate in droves.

He cannot head the Democrat ticket and win. It is a possibility that he could advance his career and ambitions as a vice presidential candidate with Hillary.

Mrs Obama
Give Mrs Obama a few more years and she will be just as cunning snd dangerous as Mrs Clinton.

Scenario
Obama: I'm not-black, I'm not-black. Harvard Law! Nice speeches! I'm not-black.

Public: Hooray! He's not-black. That's good.

(Then it becomes known that Obama attends a typical black church with a typical black preacher.)

Public: He's black! He's black! Kill him!

***
The first rule for American black people who want to be accepted by white society is: act white. Obama has broken that rule and now suffers the consequences. If his church had been The First Unitarian Church of Hyde Park or St James Episcopal Cathedral, there'd be no trouble.

Elistist Ignorance
I firmly believe Barak has been clueless. Doesn't all of America feel the way Rev. Wright and I do? I guess not. This is just elitist thinking. How many times has Obama had to reject, refute, and condemn the words of those around him?

Now we understand what Barak means about change.
What Barak means about hope. In his world, the white man is the devil. In his world, America is a white racist society. In his world, America is the devil. It's just amazing all of this is just now coming out. It's amazing he has been on this joy ride through our political system without being challenged.

The question that will hang over Obama…Where is your judgment?

How can a man be so closely associated with Jeremiah Wright for over a 20 year period of time and not see this man’s hatred for America?

Either, Obama didn’t realize how inflammatory Wright’s opinions were.
This would demonstrate Obama’s poor perspective.
OR
Obama agreed with those opinions until he saw America’s reaction.
This would indicate Obama’s own personal view of America.
OR
Obama went to a church for 20 years, was close to the Pastor and was completely oblivious of this Pastor’s opinions about America.
This would indicate very poor judgment.
OR
Obama agrees with Wright but for political purposes has to distance himself.
This would indicate Obama is just another politican saying what needs to be said while hiding his real intents.

There are no other excuses. Either one, brands Obama as someone who not only can’t be President of the United States, but who has no business being in politics at all!

Lilly
how does looking so silly, come so easy to you? I just cannot get over how you out do yourself daily! But on the bright side of that, its great comic relief!!

Lilly
Lilly opines: "The first rule for American black people who want to be accepted by white society is: act white."

What do you mean by "act white?"

You throw nebulous phrases around with abandon. What EXACTLY do you mean by "act white?"

SSGT
You asked lilly if looking silly comes easy. Well, does looking like a Kool-Aid drinking ditto-head come easy? It must be nice to not have to think critically about anything.

"Support Barack = Support an un-american racist!"

Dennis, Dennis, Dennis
Dennis said:" I do not believe that Sen. Obama's explanation is valid. I think Mrs. Obama said what she meant and meant what she said. "

Since when can you read minds Prager? You don't know what was going on in the mind of Michelle Obama.

Personally, I didn't think there was anything wrong with what Michelle said at all. I've been saying for the last year and a half that Obama's candidacy makes me proud to be an American again.

The reason I haven't been proud of America is largely related to what an embarrassment of a human being George Bush is. But I'm also ashamed of the way we do politics in this country. No one respects anyone the other side, lies are commonplace, and vitriol is encouraged and rewarded. (This is why Hannity and Limbaugh are so popular.)

What I like about Obama is that he has done his best to change the way we do poiltics in this country. He has demonstrated, over the course of his campaign, that he is the kind of man who takes a person at their word, and assumes the best about them, unless, and until, he has solid evidence to the contrary.

In this regard Dennis, it seems to me that Barack Obama is a morally superior human being to you.

Phylo out.

No double standards here!
You can't have it both ways. The guilty by association if applied to Obama because of the Reverend Wrights tapes, has to be applied to Hillary because of the racist comments by Ferraro. You won't take it for face value that Obama didn't know how the Reverend truly felt until the tapes came out. It can't be overlooked Hillary didn't know Ferraro was going to make those racist comments about Obama either. You don't know if it was a plan to sacrifice Ferraro because of the frustration Hillary and her team were going through. If Ferraro had been fired by Hillary instead of leaving on her own, it would have been more believable. Ferraro leaving on her own proved only one thing. She was willing to fall on her sword for Hillary, that's all, her pride had to stay intact, she wasn't going to be fired. Who know's Obama? Who knew New York Gov. Eliot Spitzer? You can't have it both ways when it comes to Obama. Obama isn't the only who who's having to defend himself because he was a member of Trinity United Church for twenty years. The whole membership is now labeled racist and anti American's also because of the guilty by association rule that is being applied to Obama and not Hillary Clinton. There can not be double standards because Obama is a black man.

Michael Brown
You're the one who needs to get a clue. How can you call a man who was raised by white people anti-white? Why don't you try reading the man's books if you want to know more about him. Do you honestly think you're going to get an accurate portrayal of himthrough FOXNews, or right wing radio. Come on man. Have the courage to think for yourself. And have the decency to take Senator Obama at his word when he says that the portrayal of his pastor is inaccurate, at least until you've heard the other side of the story. All you've heard so far is the prosecution's side of the argument. If you were on trial, would you want the jury to only hear the prosecution's side of the argument.

You Obama haters are not being fair to the man. Compared to Barack Obama, you have no class, and no decency. Barack Obama would NEVER treat you people the way you are treating him. You ought to be ashamed of yourselves.

Phylo out.

Here's an idea Prager
Obama has written two auto-biographies: TRY READING THEM!

For pity' sakes...!
Aw man..!! Dimocrats done got theyselfs in a big mess..two cannidates they got one a woman screeching like banshee and saying she got 35 yers experence hell she aint straightened nothin out in 35 yers and one black fella dont know where his daddy is and wife aint proud of USA but whe wont go nowhere else in the world and a thinkin-impaired racer preacher who tells him what to think and do..for pity's sakes...!!???

Where are the brave, decent, God-fearing men women when we need them, someone whom we can all look up to and admire instead of having to defend their inadequacies ?

Black and White
I'm proud to be black he said, but he's only half black. To be truthful he should have also said I'm proud to be white.

If you are offended with Obamas friend
Try Hillary and Bills friends,Communist China, have you asked her to explain why there is cash flow from Communist China into her coffers? Why they rented the Lincoln bedroom out to a Chinese? Why our some of our secrets are now in their hands?

Whether you agree with Wright or not, he at least is an American and is not courting our enemies or taking money from them.

There are those who hold the view that our politicians decisions do bring us into danger. And that we being under their authority will suffer right along with those that make those wrong choices. Guess what all of them and us are still Americans, with the right to voice our opinions.

They may be speaking out like angry foolish children frustrated with the choices people in power are making for us without asking us or letting us vote on it, but still last time I looked they had that right still to speak out against something and also say what they think will happen if wrong choices are made. Do you want them to have that right? Or do You alone want that right and no other?

I didn't hear Wright say lets attack America or subvert it. When I lived in China, and taught there, quite a few of my students we must learn English now, but some day we will rule America. Now THAT is something real to worry about and not a fellow American getting carried away with the moment and being stupid. I bet if we searched all of the peoples lives who are saying such nasty things about Obama and his pastor we would find moments of stupidy that we could explote and ruin their lives with as well.

Please, we must respect our right to speak out against sometimes.

Won't matter
If Obama wins the nomination, none of this pastor Wright issue will mean a thing come this fall, not that it means much now.

The voters will be concentrated on two things - Iraq and the economy. Republicans will be running from Bush's record, and it will be clear that the "successes" in Iraq attributed to the surge could have been accomplished without the extra 30,000 soldiers, and have done little to provide long-term stability for Iraq.

It's almost comical how the right wing pundits have abandoned their two decade obsession with Hillary Clinton to concentrate their wrath on Obama.

maverick
You don't understand. Phylo believes that there is no objective reality. Therefore, none of this is really happening, except in Phylo's head (which apparently doesn't really exist outside of his head either). As a consequence, to Phylo, there are no standards of morality, or of behavior, since none of us really exists.

Phylo can totally ignore facts and reality. To do otherwise would mean that there IS an objective reality, and of course that, in Phylo's mind, is impossible.

Gay Pastor

I have been gifted with gaydar.
One of the main difference of Obama's church and one of the few differences from Louis Farrakhan's church is they do not preach against gays. In fact they welcome them into the church.
Now take a good look at Obama's pastor.
He's definitely got the pinky action going. He's definitely a primper. Loves dancing and swaying on the pulpuit.
Loves wearing bright peacock colors.
Ok I'll say it the old man's gay. And don't give me that crap that he's married with children. This guys flaming.
Not that there's anything wrong with that.

Lilly
I'm still waiting for an answer. What, exactly, do you mean by "act white?"

An ego the size of Montana
As was noted above, the youthful Mr Obama has written(?) not one, but two autobiographies. What a huge ego it takes for a person who has lived a short time to write two books dealing with said short life, a life which is notably lacking in substantive accomplishments.

Obama is still getting a pass
Imagine what would have happened to George Bush's campaign in 1999 if, instead of simply giving an address at a university that had once prohibited interracial dating, he had actually attended and supported that university for 20 years - a university which overtly promoted white, Eurocentric culture and values, and which advanced the notion that people of color were responsible for America's problems. Further imagine that the University had bestowed a lifetime achievement award on David Duke. Do you think that Bush would have the slightest chance of being president?

The press loves the Obama story because it sells. But the liberal media also knows that, when all is said and done, white guilt will overlook the issue, and liberals won't care, just like they didn't care when Clinton lied. Obama, like Clinton, will be a teflon president. The media will marvel at his ability to weather the storm and come out stronger, because the media has declared it to be so.

Racism Is OK In America
If Obama gets the nod for the Democrats then racism is no longer unacceptible in America.

It wil be time to fight back against the racist blacks.

the real question is
Who are you?

Who have we become?

God no longer plays the largest role in our lives.

We have dismissed Him.

Like the parent who sees the direction the child has taken, and knows it to be the wrong one, we are sadly breaking His heart.

some of my best friends are...
The notion that, because Obama was raised in part by white grandparents, he cannot have some contempt for whites in general. My Grandfather had nothing good to say about Catholics, but his best friend was Catholic. He just decided that he was "one of the good ones".

Hate doesn't make sense or play by the rules. We all have blind spots for people we know and like that help us get past our prejudices in certain isolated cases.

Obama gave a beautiful speech today. But I do not believe him when he says that his pastor never once suggested that whites deliberately attempted to wipe out the blacks using AIDS and crack. I doubt that Obama believes this tripe, but I suspect that he wanted to be part of a church for appearances, and as a political tool.

But I do think that some of the anti-white rhetoric must resonate with him on some level, otherwise he would not be comfortable in that environment. Even in today's speech he says that the Reagan coalition was born out of resentment over affirmative action and welfare, and implies that that is racism. Neither Reagan nor any of his allies played the race card. Reagan seldom mentioned race, except to say that the best way out of poverty for people of any race was a good job (which his economic reforms produced by the millions).

Once again, instead of anything of substance, Obama provides us with a great speech, full of nothing. Maybe Hillary should hire him as a speechwriter.

This is funny
>The media will marvel at his ability to weather the storm and come out stronger, because the media has declared it to be so.<

So, Wright thinking that the US government introduced the AIDS as a way to eliminate blacks is a wild conspiracy theory(it is) but thinking there is some "the media" that declares events in this country to "be so" is not?

Hey Nate, there is no "the media." There are hundreds of media sources. Rupert Murdoch does not meet with the CEOs of Disney and Viacom and the editors of the NY and LA Times to decide how events in this country will be. That conspiracy thinking is just as warped as Wright's.

Truth is
there is no race.

Now based on that premise, you have no argument.

We are many designs of the same.

Go to your room! And study some more.

Lilly
You really stepped in it this time. To suggest that "black" and "white" are modes of behaviour feeds into the racial stereotypes that even Barack Obama is trying to wipe out. If getting an Ivy League education is the equivalent of "acting white", and fomenting hateful conspiracy theories about whites is "acting black", then yes, I prefer when people "act white".

But most blacks do not act like the stereotype. Neither do most whites. I don't have the data at my fingertips, but most blacks are middle-class suburbanites, just like whites. If Black America were a country, it would be one of the richest nations on earth, certainly more prosperous than any African nation.

We win when race is recognized as an illusion; a powerful and destructive illusion, but an illusion nonetheless.

Ok, calm down people...
...after all, this ain't the Huffington Post.

Look, Mr. Wright said some hateful things that he wholeheartedly believes. He also claims to follow Jesus, who directed us to love one another.

Obviously, Mr. Wright does not do so.

As for Mr. Obama, is it really believable that one could attend that church for nearly two decades and 'never' have heard the sermons.

Either:
1. Mr. Obama's membership is in name only, as with many of us at our churches, or
2. He never heard, which means he managed to never pay attention, or
3. Mr. Wright never said such things until (Coincidentally) he was being filmed, or
4. Mr. Obama lied about never hearing such things, or
5. Mr. Obama heard and concurred.

Let't see if other options exist...

Help me out here folks. What Wright said is substantive and important in his relationship to Obama, since Obama's actual words seem far and few between. (Well, except for the speechifying.)

Explain that to Mr. Wright, Nellie
Nellie says there is no 'race.' That may be, but you will have to convince Mr. (I hate Whitey) Wright of that too.

Good luck. And yes, we are breaking God's heart.

The audacity of HOPE.
The audacity of LOVE.

The audacity of WILLINGNESS to open up one's heart.

The audacity of DISPLAYING VALUES which pay homage to our heavenly Father, and inadvertantly to ourselves.

The audacity to LEARN something greater than ourselves.

The audacity to PRAY for the good bestowed upon us, for His purpose.

The audacity to THANK the good Lord for every given breath in every given day.

The audacity to PRAISE Him by the glory we give to others.

The audacity to CONDEMN what God has shunned, Himself.

Crazy Old Coot
Insanity has taken the reins of many movements all down history's winding way. It seems as if this is happening here in the US. Blacks would have whites here in the US believe, and many whites do, that slavery was an unique experience for blacks here in the US many years ago and that present day whites must bare the guilt for this. Nothing could be further from the truth but since when does the truth matter. I see much more hate, racism, and bigotry coming from blacks every day than I do from any other race and that's the truth, but since when does truth matter?

Poncho
What is funny is to see LIBS backtracking because what they have created

OBAMARAMA, it is funny how all of a sudden this guy is for real. Libs are in shock that they thought he would be gone by now and he had broken away from the LIBS PLANTATIONS and is a follower of what, A RACIST, but wait isnt that what you LIBS have been preaching to the Black Man that all REPS are RACIST, OOOOPS seems to have backfired on LIBS and they are surely whining like Babies, WAAAAAA, WAAAAA

I think that us REPS dont have to worry about HITLERY no more because she is in for a fight of her life without us contributing and it fells GGGOOOOOOOOOOOOODDD

GO OBAMA

Endorsements
Simply having someone endorse you for an elected office is not the same thing as being mentored by them.

Obama was under Wright’s guidance and influence for some 20-years, and we must assume that Obama respected Wright as a leader otherwise why would he have put himself in that position?

Is there anyone here who would allow another person to teach them, pastor them and lead them if that person’s views were antithetical to our own?

Black bigotry
If you were paying attention, over the past 20 years,to the rhetoric of Minister Farrakhan, reading any of the Black newspapers, listening to any Black radio programs you would not be shocked by Rev.Wright!!!
Unfortunately, racialist feelings of bigotry and hate(yes, hate)are dominant among Blacks. Most, I believe, feel justified in their hate. They've shared this hatred among themselves for so long they can no longer distinguish this hatred from rightous indignation. Not recognizing this reality allows them to share their hate in public, feeling confident about it, never suspecting how revolting it is.

Left Left Left
Comments like Rev Wright's comments, can be read every day on Daily Kos, Move On,etc. This is Obama's constituancy.

the speech
Go read it. Read it carefully. The full transcript is right here on townhall.

Hey Chuck
WTF are you talking about? Nothing in your rant addresses anything I said, but maybe I assumed you were addressing me, and just misspelled my name.

who is Obama
For the last 2000 years Satan has had to have in place a possible Anti-Christ candidate. To read the Book of Revelation one sees that the Anti-Christ will arise from obscurity to mislead the spiritually blinded to him as the answer to all the problems of the world. No one can come out a say Obama is Satans "Main man" but he has come on suddenly, misleads people to his true beliefs. He is a member of one of the most far out liberal church bodies, whose pastor is even further out to the far left, then most United Churches of Christ. The Church of "Christ" is far removed from Christ. The Bible is clear on Homosexual behavior, and no no matter how the far left portrays Conservative Christians, Christian DO NOT HATE Gays and Lesbians, homosexual behavior is clearly sin, but no more the Premarital, or extra marital sex. The reason blinded people believe contrary is the misinformation of the Christian values hating media and politicans.
I for one am very leary of Obama, and how he will lead this nation to ruin. The Bible also makes clear about God and Israel, Obama and the Democrats will turn their backs on Isreal and embrace the Islamic enemies of Isreal. Is he (Obama) the Anti-Christ? I and no one else can really say, but read Revelation and see what is said.

Acting white...
I'm not sure what"acting white"is.
It depends who you ask!!!!

Lets see now
First he was a muslim. When that canard went nowhere, a new tack is tried.

He is now a black racist.

How has he lived his life?

What has he advocated?

What has he said?

I will love to see what the next lie concerning Obama is.

Too bad I wasn't there
"When I lived in China, and taught there, quite a few of my students we must learn English now, but some day we will rule America."

I would have said well you might want to get Gansu and Qinghai and Yunan at over $3 a day per capita first. They can't even rule Xizang without it bursting into revolt every 20 years or so.

Now for the China conspiracy. Yes, Clinton took in money from the Chinese (which really can't be considered a communist state) and no doubt those Chinese workers in NYC weren't giving their own money--you had John Huang and Charlie Trie and Johnny Chung in 1996.

Of these, Huang came to Taiwan when he was 4 and his father a major figure in the KMT, Johnny Ching was born in Taiwan and only Trie had close ties to the PRC.

The real issue wasn't them. Their impact was only on the funding of the 1996 election, but the real story was various US compnaies like Hughes getting export controls shifted from State to Commerce and they had an agenda of approving everything. In China these businesses had very sloppy security, including sleeping with female Chinese agents, and a host of other laspes--this is how American tenchnology like improve guidence, etc got transfered--by American companies who valued money over security.

As China is concerned, eventually maybe Lenin was right--we will hang the capitalists and they will sell us the rope. But China has a host of problems and the US is in no danger of losing its position to them for a long long long time to come.

The AUDACITY of OBAMA
This guy is so full of himself. How dare the media give him more airtime on every channe, explain his racist views. a major speech no less. The media darn well better give Senator Clinton equal time for a major speech. . Clearly if you walk like a duck, and talk like a duck as far as I'm concerned he is a duck along withj his wife and pastor.

Obama supporters; prove Dennis' premise
Once again the Obama supporters who responded to Dennis' article, prove his point. They offer no logical reason for why they are going to vote for Obama, and in their defense of him they point out the flaws of other candidates.

No
He is not a racist (at least I doubt he is) and probably not Wright either. People have abused the term racism so badly it no longer has no meaning. Racism is the belief that one race is superior to another or in the inverse one race is inferior to the other.

But Wright is anti-white (which is not the same as being racist). Seems you'd think Obama would have been aware of these sort of things. This is problematic on many levels.

Why didn't he know:

Obama was too obtuse to notice them; or Obama is lying. There is also the situation that perhaps Obama just doesn't go that often (but in a FoxNews interview he said that he did go on a regular basis) or perhaps Wright only say these things rarely when by chance Obama is never there. You could say he forgot..I am sure many people forget what their pastor says, but if your pastor said "don't god bless America, god damn America..."

I think that is something I'd remember...if Obama doesn't..well that is a problem too.

Start listening
If you didn't hear Obama's speech today, you should read it. It was a great definition on interracial attitudes and behavior. If you don't "get it" after listening to his speech, you are either stupid, racist, or both.

It's a little too easy (and wrong) to say that Obama is simply lying. That also, would not explain his actions, or statements on this issue. He has intelligently explained something you do not, or don't want to comprehend, so he must be lying.

I find it strange to believe that if you think Obama is lying about this, that you can't accept that Bush has ever lied, at any time. You are simply party hacks, willing to back a person whether they are lying, or not.

You need to listen and learn more about interracial relationships. Oh sure, you can say what you want, but you only show your ignorance. You only show that you cannot tell the difference between the truth, or a lie, even given the best facts and explanation.

That doesn't mean you have to agree with him, but don't base your disagreement on hate. Don't simply say he's lying, that's not enough to prove your point. It only proves your weakness to debate honestly.

Barack's Crazy Uncle
Family members don't cheer when crazy uncles say embarrassing things. Barack's crazy uncle got his loudest cheers from the congregation when spewing anti-American, racist venom. Asking Americans to believe that this wildly popular over-the-top rhetoric was unusual and out of character is absurd. It's not just a matter of Barack's personal relationship with a radical racist; it's that his ostensible family of choice, the First Trinity Church embraced a gospel rooted and mired in hatred of American institutions, grievances, and Black racism. It is frightening and disheartening to think how many times similar messages are delivered to Black congregations throughout America.

Poncho
I was just resonding to the last para in your 10:25 a.m.

WTF you dont even know what you are on here spewing BS about. Just another typical DISGRUNTED RACIST LIB huh. WAAAA WAAAA

Still have BDS I see

Obama is undeserving
Anybody that follows a pastor like Wright, with his racist tirades against whites and his anti-Americanism, is not worthy of running for office.
The problem here is the media. The leftist media always is hyper-critical of anyone that is Christian, so will they be critical of Obama for this? So far I've not seen it..they are spinning this big-time and hoping that their darling makes it thru unscathed.

While other countries' economies hum, due to lower corporate income taxes, Obama and Hillary propose higher corporate income taxes and many other tax hikes that would take capital out of the hands of individuals and sink it into ineficient Govt beauracracy. What a recipe for disaster! The only way to strengthen the country and strengthen the dollar right now is to reduce taxes and build up the economy, which will strengthen the dollar through the solid foundation that has always been our economy in the long-run.

We could turn the whole economy around tomorrow, by tapping the trillions of barrels of oil and natural gas we are sitting on here in our own country, that enviro-whackos, govt beauracrats and various special interest groups keep us away from. Shale oil, reg oil in Alaska and off the coasts, and natural gas is in abundance, yet here we sit paying $3.50 or more per gallon for gas.

The Govt is mostly to blame for the energy problems, which go back to the 70's under Carter, as well as the housing crisis which started as a small seed when the Govt loosened lending rules so that everyone (even people with bad credit and very little income) could buy a home.

Why do would any thinking person want more big-govt people like Hillary/Obama in power? There is not a single good answer that I've seen yet. They would simply start more schemes that would end up costing us years into the future, just like the energy and housing crisis of today.

It's not the Audacity of Hope
It is the bona fide NEED of the American People to find someone to believe in. Someone to get behind. Someone that seems to have a hope-full message.

What led to this need for redemption?

America is lost and is unable to find its way. Everyone is tired of the politics of personal destruction...from both 'sides' of the aisle.

Anyone that can present a message of reconciliation and (yes) Hope for America will be embraced.

Isn't it a shame that we are looking to man to satisfy that need for hope and reconciliation?

The hunger for hope is real. The notion that Barak Obama is the food to end that hunger is false.

We need to look to God.

**The first rule for American black people who want to be accepted by white society is: act white.**

What does "act white" mean? For that matter, what does "Obama: I'm not-black, I'm not-black. Harvard Law! Nice speeches! I'm not-black." mean?

You, my dear, are the race baiter.

Time & Time again
TIME writes: Tuesday, March, 18, 2008 12:03 PM
Start listening
If you didn't hear Obama's speech today,

How many times will you repeat the read his speech mantra. If you listen to a politicians speech and believe anything in it. I have a bridge to sell you.

Obama came from a mother who was an anthropologist who went native. She came from a red diaper family and hated her country of birth. He married a woman who is also angry and hates her country. His wife dominates him and even belittles him in public. His advisor's have told her numerous times to town down her rhetoric.

Obama was raised by a dominating hater and he married the same.

What a person says means a great deal less than their actions.

Those of us who supported the Republicans last election were handed our heads.

But in that case many of us were voting for the lesser of two evils.

This time there is no lesser of two evils.

DEMOCRATS
HOPEFULLY , THE DEMOCRATS WILL
SEE THAT BOTH HRC AND OO ARE
HOPELESS CASES , AND TURN AND DRAFT
A CANDIDATE FROM THE FLOOR .
OO AND HRC ARE BOTH LOWER THAN SEAWEED,
WHICH IS ON THE OCEAN FLOOR.

Stirred to Action
With all the talk about Jeremiah Wright and Jerry Falwell both promoting hate and racism, it appears that we have both sides railing against each other as usual.

When the nomination for a Democratic candidate occurs, it will be the result of a brokered convention, as neither candidate has enough pledged delegates to take the nomination outright. The Super Delegates will make the final decision and many have already switched their prior allegiance from Hillary Clinton to Barack Obama, stating that they are doing so because he is an "African-American". I'm not making this up and I don't have a particular problem with it either.

In November, there will be a general election and people either will or won't bother to vote their beliefs. From what we have seen so far, if Barack Obama is the Democrat's candidate, 90% of African-American voters will get to the polls and vote for him, no matter what the weather is like.

If you have a problem with Barack Obama being the President of the United States, whether it's because of his race, his wife, his pastor, or his views on Iraq or abortion, then your only recourse is to vote against him and hope that people who feel the same way you do will bother to get off their behinds and vote.

One thing is certain, Barack Obama has the almost total and undivided support of every African-American voter, whether they are pro-Iraq, anti-abortion, or otherwise. A united front is the only way ANY candidate is elected.
Think about it!

Obama has confirmed his fate
What is beyond belief is that a cake walk candidate given rock star status against a despised leftist woman that couldn't be a centrist if she had a knife to her throat and a lib-loving, media darling (because he slams conservatives) rino that would have to run against Iran's hackjob to win and blows it with this hate monger he has attached himself to. The entire non-black community has been put on notice. You don't know how bad its been for us and our time has come. And between the lines - YOU'RE GONNA PAY! No matter how much he and the media smoozes this over, his die is cast.

We Know Enough
We know Obama consistently votes liberal and consistently utters liberal rhetoric.

He's unapologetically liberal, and promises he to strive to send this nation towards self-destructive Socialism.

What else do we NEED to know?

Prager Not Fit to Opine about Anyone
"On Feb. 18, in Milwaukee, Wis., Michelle Obama announced, "For the first time in my adult life I am proud to be an American."

One more falsehood.

TIME, for honest debate
I am listening. Obama has proven he will give a pass to anti-white blacks. Now he gives a glowing speech in more uniting terms enhanced with experiences for all sides to see bigotry from their point of view.

I can't ever trust him. You obviously believe every bit of nonsense passed your way by moveon and daily kos about Bush that for eight years allowed you and them to never pull together for victory over terrorists and yet you condemn me for hatred. I look at the facts. You should try it.

Unca Alby
Exactly, thank you. Obama is an open book, you know what you're getting. I don't think he's going to "send the nation towards self-destuctive Socialism," though. Warren Buffett wouldn't be a big backer of him if that were the case. Even Allen Greenspan thinks Hillary is better than any of the modern spend your taxes like mad Republicans.

In Vietnam the rich sent off the poor and Blacks to fight the nations war, now, the send them off and have their children pay for it to boot. Their only sacrifice? Bush said it best, "we see the terrible images on t.v.."

HEADBOWOMPUS
Cool name. Honestly, you'd think both sides could have a better caliber of person running. In this technological age, finding a candidate that one couldn't dig up dirt on is virtually impossible.

For TIME , Part 1
"The fact that this was Obama's pastor: Sen. Obama states he never heard such statements come from this person, are you calling Obama a liar?"

Yes, I am calling him a liar. In fact, Obama himself has figured out that this lie won't fly. In his purely polically oriented speech today in Philadelphia he acknowledged that he had in fact been sitting "in the pews" when Wright made his hateful remarks.

"Are you saying Obama hates America, or is a race baiter?"

As of his speech today, in which he acknowledged he knew about Wright's remarks and refused to disown him, and in which he identified slavery as America's "original sin", I am completely disgusted with him and contemptuous of him. He hasn't got the stones to be an open hater like Wright so he hides behind eloquent speeches read off of teleprompters and cue cards. He is worse than Jackson, Wright, and Sharpton combined. He has tried to wiggle out of his responsibility for choosing Wright as his pastor and campaign advisor. He even dragged his grandmother through the mud. He is a race p*mp. He cares nothing about this country, and his concern for black people is secondary to his ambition to be Prez. He is a disgusting, selfish politician.

"The only hate going on here, is your hate of Sen. Obama."

What about Wright's obvious hatred of the US?

"Using the same kind of false accusations that/or can, be used against Republican candidates, of questionable, personal relationships."

What relationship has Obama been falsely accused of?

For TIME , Part 2
"It's OK for Republicans, but not Democrats? !"

Who said it was OK for Republicans? BTW - according to the left, many Republicans are racists, so it's no different than it being OK for Bill Clinton to have an affair with an intern but not for Larry Craig to have a tryst with a gay man - because Clinton isn't being a hypocrite when he cheats on his wife. If you're going to condemn right-wing preachers who express bigotry you first have to agree that Clinton should have been convicted and removed from office. Otherwise you are selectively choosing to allow only liberals to be hypocrites.

"Maybe Mrs. Obama is proud that for the first time in History a woman, or a black may be the President of the United States."

That isn't what she said she was proud of (for the first time). She said she had never been proud of her country before. If a white man, by contrast, insisted he can't be proud of the NBA anymore because the league is dominated by blacks he would be roundly condemned as a racist.

"If you think having a black President doesn't mean more than his policies, you are wrong. He will be a role model for millions of non-whites, and that is a good thing. Role models mean a lot to society."

So you are stating flat out that we should vote for Obama because he is black. That's a good way to put racism behind us (insert sarcasm here).

By far the most contemptible thing Obama said today was that he can't disown his pastor any more than he can disown his white grandmother. Somebody needs to remind Obama that he can choose his friends but he can't choose his relatives. That means he didn't choose his grandmother, but he did choose his pastor. It wasn't an accident of birth.

Earth to Taft
Hi-liar-y "is better than any of the modern spend your taxes like mad Republicans."

Either you and Alan were blowing some weed at the time you heard this or you have quoted the mother of all out of context comments. I think McCain has proven time and again he wants spending cuts. He gives in all too often to the libs on spending but he basically wants cuts.

As for Vietnam, it didn't work for Kerry, the re-living of Watergate may have helped the dims in 06 but I think the un-informed voter is finally getting wise to the lib tricks. Nice try though. I thought you would have moved on to re-living the horrible Reagan years by now.

Be careful Dennis -truth is not welcomed
"The people closest to Sen. Obama at least until they can get to know him better". That is all we need to know about the fine senator. His wife will be first lady should he become president and based on her words, it's rational to conclude americans want a first lady who is proud of america, despite it's weaknesses, and is willing to represent america in a positive light in foreign countries. Michelle does not fit this bill. About Jeremiah Wright - he is not the guy americans want advising and mentoring the POTUS!

Obama's speech, March 18
1. After hearing Obama this morning I am convinced he would be an effective representative for our country in a time when we are widely distrusted worldwide. He was both firm and fair about the issues concerning Rev. Jeremiah Wright and Ms. Ferraro and did not lapse into sarcasm or cynicism.

2. The public has shown that it wants both Obama and Clinton on the ticket. This is nothing new-- the same can be said for balancing the power of Republicans and Democrats in recent election cycles.

Respectfully fellow Americans
Barack Obama shall be listed in history books as the grestest president this United States has ever known.

God bless America!

Wiseone's post to Time
Yep, you said everything that was running through my head and you said it much better than I ever could have said it. It was a speech with something for everyone and nothing for everyone.

The only thing I would add to your post is: It was nice of Obama to throw grandma under the bus!

indyconantidim, and we'll pay with our
money (taxes) and his foreign policies to "sit and negotiate" with our enemies who apparently think like his spiritual advisor/mentor "God damn america!". Well then, aren't we lucky to have this shallow empty suit self destruct and to think people gave him 32M in Jan and 35M in Feb. They must be feeling like fools right about now!

empyrius , if only you can get Barak
to believe it, the part of God Bless America, I mean. Even he knows, its over. Have you ever heard Barak say God Bless America? that's what I thought!

Love Thy Neighbor

Togetherness
I really appreciate the fact Obama is the only candidate that can bring us all together.
But before he starts on the rest of us.
I'd like to offer a little advise. Obama have you ever heard the saying charity begins at home?
Before you start with the whole U.S. population perhaps you could have that discussion with your wife and pastor. I don't know how hard you have tried to explain that we all need to just love each other ? When you get those two to love thy neighbors I'll have to admit you're a miracle worker.
So like I said charity begins at home.

shelfdesigner, now I know why Obama
thinks americans are stupid. You are either naive or really really unable to deal with reality. Obama just informed americans why each side is racist and why each side should accept it and vote for him to "bring us together". This is the most nonsensical thing ever stated - besides the "sound judgement" and "new direction" platform for his campaign. LOL!!!!

Obama is a cold, calculating Socialist
He knows that the traditional black liberal leadership is suspicious of him, because he didn't come up through their ranks. So he cultivates his membership in Wright's church, as a means of establishing his bona fides with the Sharptons and Jacksons of the world. But because he knows that he needs the other groups in the Socialists' kaleidescope, including people who are frightened by Sharpton and Jackson et al, he keeps it quiet. To the broad political audience, Obama shows the face of the man who would rise above race and "unite us".
He is a showman, a cynical calculator, a true disciple of Sol Alinsky. He is not to be trusted.

Hillary delenda est.

Sorry
"Role models mean a lot to society..."

I don't want a president to be a racial role model or a gender role model...I want him (and at this point I hope it will be a him) to be a policy leader that pursues sound policies.

I'd hate for my children to be voting for someone just because that person was Asian. Anyone that votes for someone simply because they are this color or that gender is as stupid as a sack full of hammers.

Dustyo, Wright is a mentor/advisor
that goes beyond friendship to "the person who influences my life as much as my wife Michelle does". The problem is having a president who is advised and mentored by this angry racist lunatic called Rev. Wright. Common?

TIME, all americans need to know is
that Obama picked and choose Wright as his advisor/mentor. In all his accomplishments and networking opportunities, he could have picked anyone he liked to be his advisor/mentor - HE CHOSE WRIGHT. And this, should be alarming for any american who believes that God Bless America means something. FYI - Bush was an executive i.e. Governor in one of the largest, most diverse states in the USA. He also had a well known history of struggling with drugs and alcohol and he said Jesus changed his life - americans believed him. Obama said he has never heard Wright use this kind of language in public or private before now - HE IS LYING.

I am the Greatest
Obama will be the grestest president this United States has ever known. Really?

And what in his past leads you to this conclusion. His record in both Illinois and DC has been one of..well not much of anything.

Also the greatest presidents on the list usually were in office during very "interesting" times--the Great Depression, WWII, the Civil War...you sure you want conditions present to make him great? I'd rather have a nice, boring peaceful time with the president going off into obscurity.

If you meant to say the greatest socialist president off all time, we may agree, but he will have to work hard to beat LBJ and FDR...and George W. Bush.

Obama Is Not What America Needs.
As I read some of the excuses in defense of Obama here, the twisted logic and attempt at creating racial animus as a diversion is troubling. The fact that Obama got this far prior to this Rev. Wright expose is proof that this is NOT about race. It is about the very serious question of whom has the credentilas to lead this great nation at a very troubling time in history. Leaving aside the rcent revelations regarding Rev. Wright, let's look at Obama's associations and early mentors. One an avowed communist(mentioned in his book, the other William Ayers of 60s radical fame. A former member of the weahtermen responsible for bombing the Pentagon. How about Tom hayden, another 60s radical. The evidence is clear to any thinking American. Obama ain't going to bring the utopian change that is good for America.
Do not let his eloquence and carefully worded sound bites delude your common sense.
You can judge a person by the company he/she keeps...as my wise old Granny used to say.

Encroaching Dementia?
Prager:
"But if he were elected president of the United States, he (Obama) would be the least known man to be elected in modern American history, perhaps in all of American history."

How can you say this with a straight face!?!?!? Obama is ALREADY better known than the current occupant of the White House was known in March of 1999.

Maybe he's a little bit more *unusual* a fellow than Mr. Bush was among presidential candidates, maybe his background and upbringing are different than previous presidents, and maybe you're a little more uncomfortable with him, but he's certainly at least as well known as GWB was in the months before his election.

Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity for years have urged every listener to find out what they love to do and pursue that goal as far as they can. Rush, in fact, talked today to a Texas African American who complained about discrimation going back decades to his academic years.

Rush pointed out that he was fired from his job several times and discrimated against by people who didn't like him, not because of his race. His message to the caller was move on, forget about it, and stay focused on your goals. Rush's message to everyone: Stay fixated on your goals and don't let anyone deter you. Everyone, white or black, encounters obstacles to their ambitions but it is self-defeating to stay fixated on roadblocks that are put in your way by others instead of staying focused on your goals.

Sean Hannity also encountered many obstacles before achieving success in radio. They weren't racist prejudice but just obstacles that had to be overcome, which he did.

Many African Americans use prejudice and racism as crutches to explain why they haven't gone anywhere but their excuses seem just that when you look at the careers of Walter Williams, Thomas Sowell, and Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas.

I long for the day when racism will no longer be accepted as a legitimate excuse for an unsuccessful career.

Phylo: Obama Man-Crush
Senator Obama has the charming habit of changing his rhetoric for the benefit of his immediate audience. On June 5th, 2007, Senator Obama spoke before 8,000 people gathered in Hampton University's Convocation Center. Most of them were pastors and ministers who of course shared his particular hue & “viction politics.”. He spoke mainly about post-Katrina issues and criticized the Bush administration's efforts during that natural disaster. Saying that a "quiet riot" might be occurring in America, he affirmed that he felt that America was a racist nation, that the reaction to Katrina had just "pulled back the screen" on America's racism. Obama also used rhetoric heavily doused with religious symbolism. Pretty disingenuous rhetoric from the “post-racial” Presidential candidate- I now understand how Rev. Wright influenced his speech.

After reviewing Mr. Obama’s speech I can state that to his credit he managed to cite the existence of both white and hyphenated-American racial anger. However, apparently only hyphenated-American anger is legitimate & of course the solution is more entitlement in perpetuity. Reality: Today’s Hyphenated-American’s are victims of their own stupid behavior (i.e., 70% illegitimacy, 50% school drop out, 25% prison incarceration, etc.) more often than they are victims of residual racism. But what do you expect form an ostensible white man who fell into the orbit of two minority bigots, i.e., Reverend Wright & Michelle Obama, and subsequently went “native” under their respective influence.

I once thought that despite our differences, I could sit down with Mr. Obama, have a beer & chat. Unfortunately, I am beginning to rethink that position.

Phylo, please drop your “man-crush” – your bias is showing

Liar
First Obama says that he didn't hear any of those comments and wasn't there when any of them were said. That's something that's relatively easy to fact-check, and he knows he's going to be caught red-handed in a big fat lie about that, so he gives a speech today. In his speech he says that he was aware of the kinds of things that come out of black churches and pastors, but the white community shouldn't really be offended by them because they're justified by everything that was done to black people in the past, and white people have to understand that black people are going to vent every once in a while. So he was lying before when he said he wasn't aware of those comments, right? Will the media call him out on those lies that he told all of 4 days ago?

wits07: Spare Me
"We need a thinking populace whose willing to acknowledge the sins of the father and stop pimping out others (Listeners, Families, or Viewers) in attempt to satisfy your own self serving agenda."

Spare me. Like most minimally franchised, disposable white males, I'm quite frankly getting sick of wearing a "bill of attainder" in perpetuity. And I have every right to complain about that fact without be invalidated by pedantic, intellectual light-weights like you.

fairand evenhanded
Prager should "send" his boys to war? Are you not aware that they are their own people and cannot be conscripted into the military on the order of his parents? Your argument is equivalent to saying that someone doesn't care about poverty unless they donate all their money to charity. Your rhetoric is meaningless, a reflection of the empty cranium that created it.

The Other Alan answered
What matters is whether one's views are correct, not their self-proclaimed "breadth." In any event, Obama and Wright's views are as shallow, stupid, and one-dimensional as anything out there.

Your other points are easily disposed of: For a long time, 99% of the racism has come from the left, (look at Wright for an example). If by "nuanced" you mean duplicitous I agree.

There are only three real possibilities:
1. Obama is a racist nut-job.
2. Obama is such an airhead that he couldn't recognize virulent hate-speech when he sat there and listened to it for 20 years.
3. Obama was duplicitously using Wright's racist church as a power base, is quite willing to support racist hate if he thinks it will advance his march to power, demonstrating zero integrity and character.

Any of the above disqualifies Obama for any public office, much less the presidency.

obama
Obama will be defeated in the general election and then what? Be prepared for race riots all over America- who's going to stop them? have you looked at the composition of your local big city police forces?

Or he will be elected and the country will be down the tubes and there will be have/have not riots -same result

I'll take the first option

Hey Jerseyvet
There you go again trying to be logical with liberals. Do you really expect liberals to accept advice from guys like Limbaugh and Hannity just because they're both WILDLY SUCCESSFUL?

Good post.

A few quotes VS a career
Defenders of Obama and Wright argue that it is not fair cast someone aside over a few comments, but rather to assess the totality of their careers. Did they say that about Michael Richards, Don Imus, or Trent Lott?

One incident was enough to make those men into pariahs, whereas Wright has made repeated anti-American statements for which he (unlike the men I mentioned) has never apologized.

For cleverness_of_me
You can add Jimmy "The Greek" Snyder, Al Campanis, and Ben Wright to the list. I'm sure that with a little research we could add a dozen or so more names.

How about John Rocker?

Note that the career "death penalty" was imposed on each of these guys even though their career was in sports, not politics. This is the left's definition of the First Amendment. We are free to say anything the left approves of.

I'll just say it--
I don't know about y'all, but I would finally really like to see a solid minded candidate step up and say the following: "I am running for POTUS, and I definitely support the laws on the books concerning all factors of stopping illegal immigration, huge fines on those that hire them, bring back the manufacturing jobs that have been out sourced, follow the constitution to the letter, cut off welfare to all able bodied people who are able to work (if you can't find a job your local center will place you in one of your ability), Pay as you go for health care, send all drug dealers and addicts to an island to fight each other , abolish the aclu, keep religion out of politics". You can fill in the others.

As for the candidate, he or she must make full disclosure of their past, if any affairs, fights, crimes , bribes, etc. And tell the people that I am "not for sale". And I don't pander to anyone except legal Americans. And if I commit any crimes while in office, then toss me in prison and throw away the key.

Think a candidate like that will ever exist??
We can only hope.

barack Obama
I suggest for those interested in Mrs. Obama's political opinions may wish to read her thesis written while at Yale. It dovetails into the thinking of his religious advisor Pastor Wright and therefore, may offer some insight behind Barack's facade through his two admited most influential relationships.

Barack knowing himself
Dennis,

I believe you are right on the track. Today we learn from Obama that his loving white grandmother was a racist. Does Obama suggest by this that if his very grandmother was a racist, white America is necessarily racist? A therapist would have a field day with this.

Nancy

wow
That was a great speech today. Your grandkids kids will be studying it in school someday. And perhaps they'll have the wherewithal to examine the responses people wrote on the internet. Then they'll wonder why right wingers were so blinded by their preconceptions that they couldn't see the greatness of the speech. You people are embarrassing yourselves and your great grandchildren.

It was fun listening to right wing radio today. They worked in concert to do everything they could to belittle the speech. But more often then not, their responses were incoherent and desperate. Prager actually said that Obama was lying in his speech. Huh?

It's clear to me that you people don't want the nation to overcome racial differences if it is accomplished by a Democrat. Party loyalty trumps the good of the country for you I guess.

How some of you can admire Bush and harbor hatred for Obama is beyond my ability to comprehend.

Phylo out.

Liberal line of the day
Phylo writes:

"How some of you can admire Bush and harbor hatred for Obama is beyond my ability to comprehend."

What is beyond your comprehension would fill dozens of books.

BTW - unlike the moonbats at liberal sites, we conservatives who criticize Obama do not do so out of "hatred" for him. We do so out of love for our country and the knowledge that Obama ia is an empty suit who is totally unqualified to be President.

What is also beyond your comprehension is that Obama's speech today was just one more example of how the man can take more time to say nothing and do it more eloquently than anyone in recent memory.

As some of us have noted, Obama's speech today revealed him to be just another cheap political hack. The man who claims to be a uniter has in fact become a divider, according to recent polls. He even threw his own grandmother under the bus.

What a guy!

You could run a DREDGE up the mississippi & come out with something better.

Phylo...
2 things for you to ponder.

1st Very few, if any, "hate" Obama. Where we stand is that the only he has shown us is rhetoric. No substance. It also seems that your abilities are extremely limted in scope.

2nd Fora prime example of "hate: all you need do is to read fairand evenhandeds posts.

(Why is it that Ron Paul supporters are verifiable fruitcakes, and at every turn marginalize themselves in just a few posts?)

.

No PC Presidency
Yes, Red Flags. Obama should answer whether he also lied about his wife's remarks. All the 'hate whitey' stuff is important to deal with -- but we shouldn't be distracted from the foreign policy implications of Obama's red flags.

Obama can't disown his allegiance to the Third World. I sympathize with poverty in the Third World. I think its in America's national interest to help solve the problems of the Third World. But the American Preident's allegiance must be primarily to the national interests of the United States. I don't think this is true of Barack Obama.

Why did Obama pounce on Hillary's comments about Dr. King and LBJ? Because it served his interests to play the race card before South Carolina. Why did he make his big speech today? Because it served his interests.

hi Phylo!
Just explain this, if you could please:

"Change you can believe in!"

Oh, and just in case you wondered, Hitler's campaign slogan? "Freedom and Bread"

interesting
So Prager thinks Wright is as contemptible as Falwell and Robertson and Hagee. But does he actually think that Falwell, Robertson, and Hagee are contemptible (and has he written columns like this attacking them?) or is this just simple minded hypocrisy as it seems. The kind of thinking that says it is awful when people do x, unless they agree with me politically then it is ok.

Phylo
I didn't watch it but I read it, and I got chills at the end. It was fantastic.

There's a perfect storm brewing...
Part way into the March 18th Obama speech on skin color I felt a collective sense of disbelief, then an indrawn breath, slowly followed by a gathering sense of determination, and a little smile...

There's a perfect storm brewing and Mrs. Clinton has got to be jumping up and down with glee!

Thanks to Fox News, Americans everywhere have been able to peek into what's behind Barack Obama's twenty years of affiliation with "Rev" Wright and his church's "GD America" hate-filled racist agenda.

In my opinion the only thing Obama could have done in his speech that might have placated white Americans is to announce his withdrawal from that church, and his utter repudiation of the pastor who led it.

But in his speech Obama tried to distance himself from the grossly divisive and insulting "Rev" Wright sound bites, because they've been exposed. And went on to vigorously defend the church, and his own continuing association with "Rev" Wright, his "spiritual" adviser.

Obama is half black, half white, he might have had a chance to represent Americans of all skin colors. But he chose instead to defend the divisive views of a radical minority that chooses to hate America and define itself as victims.

It is my hope that Fox News and conservative commentators do not let this one slide. We're a nation at war with a foe that would delight in the mass murder of many more than 3,000 Americans on our own soil.

We need to be very careful that the person who takes that 3 a.m. telephone call in the White House represents the best interests of ALL Americans.

I sense a perfect American storm brewing, and Barack H. Obama's justifiably right in its path...

A Double Standard
Theres such double standard amoung liberals. I've noticed a few posts that state what if a white presidential candidate attended a church whose pastor spewed hatred for Blacks and Jews? Do people honestly believe that he could withstand the scrutiny from the liberal elite? Heck no
Here's another example: Suppose Dr. Willams or Dr. Sowell (People I believe have more qualifications to be POTUS than Obama) were to run for president? You think Minorities in this country would support them? More than likely the liberal elite would classify them as an Uncle Tom becuase the actually succeced in a white mans world. Liberals like nothing more than to have their cake and eat it to.
BTW-Wiseone said better than I ever could in his post at 17:25 to Phylo

An addition
I also meant to add to the following
Do people honestly believe that he could withstand the scrutinty from the liberal elite as well as most conservatives?
Unlike most liberals, most conservatives would not condone that kind of action although there are few that would. I am certainly not one of them.

Prayer
I am child of God before I am human.
I am Human before I am Black.
I am Black before I am American.
I am American before I am Me.

This is true individualism grounded in real associations not rhetoric or intellectual kung-fu.

my prayer is that all the writers who have tooken time out of their precious lifes to consider if they are treating others like they want to be treated. This is the true answer to racism.

I am guilty as with many of being energized to fight in the arena of ideals over issues that won't add an once to anyones character or content.

Please stop fighting with me and others to score points. This forum truly is the crab pot. lets stop fighting each other to get out of the pot and help each other to escape.

Dennis' kids issue
To the person that said maybe he should send his kids to fight in the war. If you even listened to his show at all he has stated many times he has encouraged his youngest to join the military. But then again I am responding to someone that thinks we are at war with Iraq because of Israel. Sorry to break the news to you but they were not at odds with Iraq at the time of the invasion (if at all). Please get your facts correct before you comment.

Dishonest
Prager: "That's troubling on its own -- for his and her contempt for American politics. And it is even more troubling for its narcissism -- do Sen. Obama and his wife believe that only his success has made American politics worthy of pride?"

What is troubling to me is that there are people out there that actually have pride in our politics. Of course, Prager is on shaky footing here. It doesn't take a swift mind to realize that if there is one thing most Americans will readily agree on is that our politics suck. Check out the polls. Check out the messages on this and other websites. The disdain for our politics comes from every corner and it is nearly unanimous. So, Mr. Prager, I'm not buying your indignation.

Not to beat the Michelle thing to death, but Michelle Obama specifically said that she wasn't proud because her husband was winning primaries. Well meaning conservatives: put yourself in Michelle Obama's position. Previously her opinion of politics was much like most of ours...pretty jaded. Then she finds herself swept up in something some call a movement. Some criticize that movement as a "cult," but honest people can't claim that it hasn't been extraordinary. The point of that movement was changing politics into something that is more positive than what we have had in years. You would have to have a heart of stone not to be moved by that. That is what she was talking about.

Reading the transcript of Obama's speech
today....My first reaction in that first few paragraphs was of being lulled into the eloquence, rationality and calmness of what he was saying.
The speech, in the second half, completely fell apart in its attempt to "heal the racial divide". It was blatantly racist in its embrace of black victimhood, its encouragement of a double standard of behavior, and its barely veiled references to white claims to superiority. I was truly staggered at how offensively racist it was to the DETRIMENT of blacks....I would've been offended to the core if I were black. Grandiloquence is simply a cover for Obama's beliefs that the less than discerning, wanting-to-feel-good public is lapping up. I truly cannot believe that they are not NOTICING this!
Where is Bill Cosby when we need him????

Who is Barack Obama?
Let's see. I think that you are the same person
who, last week, tried to tell us why women are so
depressed, completely overlooking the obvious -
men are such schmucks. Women want to get married
and have kids. Too many men aren't worth marrying.

But I digress. I will bet that you asked this
question and then tried to answer it without
reading any of the books he wrote. Try it. It might help. I am not sure that anyone could be
completely insightful about another person, but
putting some serious effort into it might help.

If that doesn't answer your question,
nothing will!

A response
Most of the responses to my earlier post about Obama's speech seem to boil down to two things:

1) You don't hate Obama; you disagree with his views.

Fair enough. My bad. I take it back. It actually makes me look like a hypocrite because earlier, I admonished you all to assume the best about people, like Barack Obama does, and here I am assuming the worst about you. Please forgive me.

2) Obama is nothing more than fancy rhetoric.

Here, I have to disagree.

First of all, rhetoric is powerful. Anyone who knows Reagan knows that.

But secondly he is more than just rhetoric in the sense that he is a true leader. He showed that today in his historic speech on race. He took an issue that had the country embroiled in a controversy over race––arguably one of the most trecherous of subjects––and he calmed the country down. This line of attack won't work against Obama because the difference between him and the reverend could hardly be more stark and obvious. Not even the right wing blow hards will be able to spin this thing into oblivion.

And the amazing thing is that he accomplished this by being honest, by being clear, and, most importantly, by encouraging both sides of the imbroglio to start thinking about things from the other's perspective.

Barack Hussein Obama is about far more than rhetoric. What he's all about, is leadership. Something this country has been sorely missing.

Phylo out.

PS

I must say, I enjoy arguing with conservatives more then liberals. I've been spending most of my time recently arguing with libs about what a disaster Hillary would be as president. You folks are right about one thing. Liberals tend to be more emotional. Arguing with them is almost impossible. On blogs that is. Strangely enough, when you get into the higher echelons of critical thinking, the liberals surpass the conservatives.

Phylo out.

Barak Obama
Perhaps I missed earlier references to it but you are the first who pointed out that Obama was raised by his Caucasian mother & grandparents. Why is he not white-oriented? Is he ready to damn his mother & grandparents?

Phylo
That was really a top notch post!

race
The Obama campaign is loving all of this focus on race. They will eventually turn this around in their favor. Then, anyone who dares speak ill of Obama will be accused of racism.

bigmomma
Obama said today to forget about this race stuff and get down to what's important to us. I think you misunderstand the man. One thing though, as sure as the sun rising, Sean Hannity, whose mentor is a lunatic racists, will harp on racism tell our ears bleed.

Phylo
I appreciate your recognition that we can find Obama extremely likeable and disagree with him on virtually every issue. Too many people on both sides have a real problem distinguishing personalities from policies.

“The man who claims to be a uniter has in fact become a divider”

“He even threw his own grandmother under the bus.”

Dude I just listened to the speech and I heard Obama not only talk about the frustrations of Black America, but also the frustrations of White America. I heard him talk about not only black resentment but also white resentment. I heard him talk about both black and white ignorance. I heard him talk about both black and white accountability for our racial insensitivities and self destructive habits in a manor that no politician in the 21 st century ever has.

Obama didn't pander to whites nor blacks in his speech and he condemned the ignorance on both sides while also acknowledging the concerns, fears and doubts on both sides. As for his grandmother, he said he couldn’t disown his white grandmother (who he has said made racist comments) anymore than he could disown his pastor of 20 years for his imperfect comments.

I guess the only thing that would make you happy is if Obama just condemned his pastor and the ignorance of blacks without acknowledging the ignorance and shortcomings of whites, even if the ignorance is in his own family. Honestly, if you think the speech today was divisive and Obama was being a “political hack”, then I don’t know what else to say to you except God bless, and I wish you the best.

Taft is Daft
That's it. Change the subject to Sean Hannity, and then disparage him. This is called a "straw man" argument, has nothing to do with the point of the article or the discussion. Please, post only when you have something intelligent to say. Oops. That would be never in your pathetic case. And just how is one going to forget about this "race stuff" when your hero himself said there was a deep divide in this country, and he is running to "bring Americans together." BS, it doesn't pass the smell test. Your guy is an out and out phony.

Phylo steps out of one pile ...
... and into another.

"First of all, rhetoric is powerful. Anyone who knows Reagan knows that."

Beer seems "powerful" to a teenager who's never had a drink.

Nicotine seems "powerful" to a teenager who doesn't smoke.

And Obama's prose, which is written for him by staff members, seems powerful to those with a limited understanding of political concepts. You know, the kind who find the difference between "hate" and "disagreement" to be beyond their comprehension.

"But secondly he is more than just rhetoric in the sense that he is a true leader."

Oh really? What/who has he ever led. Being a legislator is not "leading". Being a mayor, a governor, a company President, a combat officer, those are leadership positions. One can be a political hack and be a legislator, especially if one can get elected by having any and all who disagree with one accused of being racist by followers and surrogates because one is a female or a minority. One can even vote "Present" more often than "yeah" or "nay" combined as a legislator to avoid being pinned down on one's positions and get the starstruck who support one to call one a "leader" without doing anything to earn it.

"He took an issue that had the country embroiled in a controversy over race––arguably one of the most trecherous of subjects––and he calmed the country down."

All he did was deepen the divide. Just because the liberal sycophants in the drive-by media were enthralled with this speech doesn't mean squat. In case you haven't noticed, he is losing support among white males.

Barack Obama is an empty suit. A political hack. His " rhetoric" was best described by the great Obiwan Kenobi in "Star Wars", who said "The Force can have a tremendous influence on the weak-minded."

Phylo
I've been trying to tell them.

Thank you, for clearing the air so easily.

wiseone
Obama writes his own speeches. Sure he has input from others. Every author does. But, at the core, they are HIS ideas. Don't be so dishonest as to take that away from him. If you Republicans want to beat Obama, have the honor to do it on the merits.

Phylo out.

Anthony Thomas, Part 1
First of all, I am not a "dude".

More to the point, all Obama did with this speech was cop out. He talked all around the subject without saying anything. Did he call on Wright to stop being a racist? No. Did he call on Sharpton to stop being a fraud? No. Did he call on Jackson to stop being a race hustler and shakedown artist? No.

Today Obama solidified his position as the black Bill Clinton. When Clinton first got caught with his pants down he lied. Then after the lie was exposed and he was impeached he stood in the Rose Garden abd decried "the politics of personal destruction". The same politics of personal destruction that he and the Democrats had used against Newt Gingrich and would go on to use against Trent Lott, Tom Delay, Mark Foley, and Larry Craig, just to name a few.

Now we have Obama, who was caught condoning racism and hatred for America. At first he lied, just like Clinton. Then, when he realized he couldn't get away with his lie he made a speech in which he decried the very kind of racist, hateful speech that his own pastor made a habit of issuing. So just like Clinton, Obama now wants to say hey, let's all stop destroying each other and try to get along. Just like Clinton he expects to pay no price for anti-Americanism and racism of his associates Wright and Myer (the terrorist who bombed the Pentagon and said, post 9/11) that he should have done more), and his perpetually angry wife.

And just like Clinton he and his friends will return to bashing Republicans, hating America, and spreading discontent among their constituents as soon as they think it's safe. The only time guys like Clinton and Obama want everone to play nice is after they've been caught with their hand in the cookie jar. I wish I could say he didn't fool anyone with this weasel-worded political hack stump speech. But apparently he did succeed in fooling you, phylo, and a lot of other lemmings.

My grandparents had less...
than most grandparents of minorities and I'm tired of all the whining of blacks in America. My grandparents were European with absolutely nothing by our standards except a dream to come to America and get their kids educated. So, all this whining is a mystery to me. Two generations later we are successful and contributing--because of America. I don't believe that Barack Hussein Obama has a fraction of the patriotism that my grandparents had. My grandfather cried at the sound of the national anthem. Neither Obama, nor his arrogant wife, are patriots. I'd rather vote for a stupid man or woman for President, than to vote for someone who did not--at their very core--love this nation, even with it's flaws. And--oh, by the way--I don't need Barack Hussein Obama to give me "hope" again. I ALWAYS have hope and pride in America. It is indeed the best government in the world.

Anthony Thomas, Part 2
"I guess the only thing that would make you happy is if Obama just condemned his pastor and the ignorance of blacks without acknowledging the ignorance and shortcomings of whites ..."

You see AT, this is the problem. There weren't any white preachers in the Trinity United Church preaching hatred and racism. What specific acts of which specific white people are you talking about? Will Obama turn to stone if he denounces black hatred and racism without trying to excuse it with vague references to white racism?

I'm not one of his speechwriters, but if I was I would have insisted that he include the following in his speech.

1. The vast majority of white Americans who live in this country are not the descendants of slaveowners and do not deserve to be treated as racists or as if they 'owe' all black people something, and

2. Nothing any racist white man did, past or current, excuses the kind of racist black culture that haters like Wright promote. The reason it is inexcusable has nothing to do with "justice". It has to do with practicality. As long as black men insist that there must be some kind of retribution, revenge, or they must carry a collective grudge, IT IS BLACK PEOPLE WHO WILL SUFFER THE MOST.

That is what would have satisfied me, because it would have given ME hope that Barack might actually accomplish something. That he might be something more than another political hack empty suit.

But instead he wants to maintain the status quo while saying we have to have "change".

Impressive rhetoric is for intellectual lightweights. Leadership is more effective when it's implemented by example.

My grandparents had less...

"That is what would have satisfied me, because it would have given ME hope that Barack might actually accomplish something. That he might be something more than another political hack empty suit."

If elected, he'll accomplish something alright - he'll take the divisive and disgusting race hustle and grievance industry to new heights.

Coming out of Chicago, that's really all he is: a clever hack. The fact is that, in ramping up his image as the 'great black hope', being associated with Wright on Chicago's south side served his purposes quite nicely. It's significant that even Oprah couldn't stand him.

Do you think he really applied himself to learning anything of the country, or the world for that matter, that might serve the nation in dangerous times rather than tearing it up to serve partisan liberal interests?

Someone here mentioned that he's a novice and not as dangerous as the now well experienced klintons in applying the leftist agenda. But the inculcated guilt established through educational indoctrination, will enable him through his legal race racketeers to maw maw their way to new levels of public brigandage.

Wright serves no god from his pulpit other than the god of white hate and plunder and ali bama will smile approvingly while orchestrating and plotting the raids.

Racism is alive and kicking...
I know I am in a "conservative" blog, but majority of the posts show the racism is alive, and kicking covertly.

Jerseyvet:
I know people like you, who are the great loyal listeners to hate-mongers like Sean Hannity, and Rush Limbaugh will never want to talk about racism in the US. It wasn't like in the 1800's when African-Americans were lynched, it was in the 60's. Most of the white southerners did not one fine day say "well racism is just wrong, gosh darn it, we are going to change from today, and treat everyone with dignity and respect". It happened because brave people like Dr.King protested peacefully, to achieve change. Ofcourse, you want to compare these kinds of things with the racists like Limbaugh and Hannity who want to push it under the carpet.

People in the "conservative" side always like to talk about WWII, while the United States was liberating millions from Nazi atrocities, African-Americans serving (not all of them) in a segrated army. They served their nation, but to be back to society that treated them as non-citizens. The anger is very real, and not be slighted away or to be said " well it happened so get over it". Try to say this with the Jewish community in the US about holacoust, there would an uproar, that would halt the United States. Even much of the racists in this country are courting Jewish folks because of their status in the society, the most powerful group in the country, which they have legitimately claimed by their hard work.

I guess most of you are blinded by nationalism(not be confused with patriotism), and racism to the extent, that you can't really right from wrong. Now, we can have discussion of how some African-Americans are using these things to get away with murder(literally OJ). But, to dismiss this, and to slip it under the rug is not just outrageous, rather cancerous to this country.

For Nellie
You and Anthony Thomas still don't get it. This discussion is not about me.

Wright is a pastor. He is supposed to be guiding his congregation. My objection to Wright is that instead of guiding them to the side of God he is instilling them with hate, anger, and, ironically, despair instead of hope.

My observation about Obama is that if he were truly the great new leader you claim he is he would have recognized this, the same as conservatives have, and would have already done something about it.

Instead he just keeps changing his story to fit whatever facts he thinks he can't hide anymore, like a little kid caught in a lie.

That's your great hero.

I think
your name is an oxymoron, fair/evenhanded, since your posts are all viciously attacking Israel.
The Isrealis' didn't lob hundreds of rockets into Lebanon last year, Israeli's aren't lobbing rockets into Gaza. Unless you are deaf, dumb and blind you know that Hama's has taken over Gaza. The Palestinians are from displaced
Jordanian and other Arab people; the Israelis
are in THEIR homeland, given to Abraham by GOD
you can deny it all you want but that's the truth and if you have a gripe about it take it up with God. And being a sovereign nation, Israel has every right to defend itself and it's citizens against enemies attacking them. Unfortunately it's being led by a flaming liberal who is too chicken to do what he should be doing, defending his people. Get off your antisemitic bigotry.

That wasn't
the post I'd planned but it was a series of offensive posts that set me off. I grew up
next to a wonderful, orthodox family and their daughter was a friend, her mother was the gentlest, sweetest lady that died when she was too young of cancer. The family who bought their home a few years later were conservative jews and their kids were part of the neighborhood
group of kids, we played together and went to the movies together. And I resent those kinds of
mindless rants from ignoramuses.
Original post: Obama's mentor..definition of mentor per Websters school/office dictionary:1. a
wise and faithful counselor. 2. a teacher or coach And Obama doesn't agree with Wright's
bilious bigotry? Kind of makes ya' wonder.

realdemocracywhatever, 10:26 PM post.

Jerseyvet NEVER once wrote or even implied that racism... in any form or in any shape... is ever acceptable.

Clearly, it is not!

So please take YOUR filthy race-baiting and return to the dailykos or moveon or huffington.

Be gone.

Still looking for comments about McCain

Um, who are YOU going to run for president. And what is he doing, good or bad? You don't even know, do you? Amusing.

brockdlovesamerica
What part of your tiny brain thinks anything in the column, or the comments on the column is about McCain. Take your filthy troll comments back to the daily vomit, please. Please! PLEASE!

scottkkk...............
Don't use your other login to commend your own post jerseyvet.........probably this comment section might not be good enough for ya..........try the HATE club

To TAFT
You say "In Vietnam the rich sent off the poor and Blacks to fight the nations war, now, the send them off and have their children pay for it to boot. Their only sacrifice? Bush said it best, "we see the terrible images on t.v.." The truth is about 5 percent of those who died were Hispanic and 12.5 percent were black -- making both minorities slightly under-represented in relation to their proportion of draft-age males in the national population.
Make you lib stat slinging trick moot eh? Look name one thing he has led that would prove to thoughtful voter that I'm voting for a leader of a known quality? and Phylo you say we know him....How do we know him? two books? ya ever heard of a book called "A million little pieces"?

Racism
RealDemocracyman:

Racism properly understood is the ideology that one race (usually one's own) is superior to another race or in the converse a race is inferior to another race. Has Limbaugh or Hannity ever said anything to indicate they share this belief? And for the blacks in WWII, at least they didn't round you up and put you in camps like another group I could name..and they fought proudly too--hear of the 442nd Infantry?

I have yet to hear a Sansei preacher say GD America, have you?

Oh and to compare the extermination of 6 million Jews to what happened to blacks in the US in the 1940s or even what happened to the Niisei makes you look like the total idiot that you are.

Go get a life or a job.

Why is Obama running for Pres?
Why is Barack Obama running for President?
He claims that he is uniquely qualified to “bring our country together” and that despite his lack of experience and relative youth, he has demonstrated superior “judgment”.
Obama has now acknowledged Reverend Jeremiah Wright, used incendiary language that widened the racial divide. Obama says of (his) fellow congregants that (their) anger is real; it is powerful; and that not understanding its roots, serves to widen the chasm between the races.
If Obama is really the Reconciler in Chief, why didn’t he change the hearts of Rev. Wright and his flock over the past 20 years? Everyone is asking what influence the good Reverend had on the candidate, but shouldn’t we be wondering why the very people Obama knew best, still hate America, the White Man and Israel?
With regard to the issue of judgment; Obama demeans President Bush, John McCain and the Clintons claiming that they didn’t know what was going on inside Saddam’s closed police state, (10,000 miles away) when he didn’t know what was happening in the pew right next to him.
I think that pretty well sums up the qualifications issue.

Obama Dilemma
He either knew his pastors belief system and condoned it or he exercised poor judgment in his due diligence.

He is now the easier candidate to defeat in November.

If you are a democrat, you now want Sen Clinton as your nominee.

If you are a republican, you want Sen Obama as your opponent.

If you are an independent, Sen McCain is looking better.

This outcome is all about finally getting a read on Sen Obama's belief system. You are influenced by who you associate with..You become what you think about most of the time.

Sen Obama's dilemma is now a huge democrat dilemma.

Akagi...
You look like racist from all that rant I read.

"And for the blacks in WWII, at least they didn't round you up and put you in camps like another group I could name..."

Wow how grateful African-American should be that droves of them were not sent to death camps. That's a great excuse to wish away virulent racism right? Not to mention the lynchings that killed a lot of people. Ofcourse you never gave any legitimate answers for the very important points I rasied. You know maybe we should enslave white Americans for a while, then find out after centuries how they feel about it, will probably put the whole thing to rest, and they will able to answer whether this is legitimate feelings or not. I mature enough to understand it's not the entire white America, because even during those terrible times, there were millions of white Americans who stood up with Dr.King. Also the brave Abraham Lincoln who ended slavery, but I am not talking about those noble people. I am talking about racist/bigots like you.

I am sure you are not "Akagi"(fake Japanese name), sure go so ahead this is your blog, change it to your real racist name. IMBECILE!!

BTW looks you need job and a life, commenting @9:53 am, you loser.

Typical White Person
I can answer who he is. He is another TYPICAL Politician that is finally showing his colors.

enough puns for ya?

I think he is finished. In the same week, Barack said he didn't hear the Reverend ever say those inflammatory things, then he said he did. Which is it? You can't go to that Church for 20 years and not know what the preacher is saying.

Speaking as a Typical White Person, I lost all respect for him during this whole thing with Reverend Wright, and then for him to say his grandmother is a Typical White Person and these things are bred into us... WTF! How long would it take for me to be called a racist if I said his dad was a Typical Black Man because he got a white woman pregnant and left her???

I hear how black people can't be racist, yet Barack knew this preacher for 20 years, had him as part of his campaign team, and he has the nerve to tell us that he didn't know the good reverend spewed that kind of race bating and hatred??? Even his wife said she isn't proud of America. Yes there are some bad spots in our history, but this is the same Country that she was able to go to an Ivy League Law School and the same for Barack. They grew up in more privilege than me, and they have the nerve to talk like that...
What kind of Church or Preacher spouts that kind of un-Godly hatred and lies? The ones that come to mind are - Oh yeah Muslim Mosques, filled with the people that hate us and want us dead because we aren't muslims. I never hear that from any Christian denomination church I ever attended.
Race relations will not improve, nor will the circumstances for many blacks until certain blacks stop thinking other people owe them something and when people can talk honestly and frankly with each other without bringing race into it.
But who am I? Just another Typical White Person.

Obama Church Endorsed Hamas
The story of how Senator Obama's church has officially endorsed the Hamas charter which calls for the murder of Jews is here:

http://www.wnd.com/index.php?fa=PAGE.view&pageId=59456

Democrats will not raise it as an issue before the primary, simply because they see nothing wrong with the idea of Muslims finishing what Hitler started. In the mindset of the average leftist Democrat, the Jews deserve what they get - just as America deserves what they get for supporting a {gasp} Jewish state!

The abiding anti-semitism of the left is nauseating. They cloak it in terminology (anti-Zionism) which they hope will be more palatable, but their true hatred shines through.

Your average leftist Democrat has ZERO problem with Hamas hero-worshipping the Grand Mufti of Jerusalem, who was an avowed Nazi.

They will stretch credibility by suggesting that Prescott Bush was a Nazis, while refusing to speak of the fact that their beloved Islamofascist Hamas, Hezbolah, and PLO are all sprung directly from WWI Nazi Arab support groups.

What do we care about?
Apparently it means more to some people whether the candidate wears a pin or holds his hand over his heart, than it does to consider the issues in the election. Little pins in lapels don't make the wearers patriotic. Praying loudly so that potential voters can hear you doesn't make you religious or ethical. And standing with your hands at your side when someone's idea of a patriotic formula is recited doesn't make you un-American.

Who Is Barack Obama?
How many people know John Bush McSame sought the endorsement of the Rev. John Hugee?

How many people know the Rev. John Hugee believes the Catholic religion is "a whore?"

How many people know the Rev. John Hugee believes that when the big rupture comes Jews in Israel will face a choice of either accepting Jesus or burning in hell?

How many people know John McSame went to a Baghdad market said it was safe and didn't tell us he was guarded by over 100 soldiers with attack helicopters flying overhead?

How many know John McSame, 71, doesn't know, is lying or is having senior moments when he is saying al Qaeda militia men (Sunnis) are training in arch enemy Shiite Iran?

Gator Ray

How many people know John McSame was one of the Keating Five and what he did in that scandal?

How many people know John McSame once joked that Chelsea Clinton is so ugly because Janet Reno must be her mother?

How many people know that conservative Republicans in the Senate have taken issue with McSame's volatile temper?

Gator Ray's misstatment...
I'm new to the site, and will introduce myself with this preface. While Dennis's on-air persona is the epitome of patience, sensitivity and composure, most comments on this topic reek of anger and vituperation. By matching their vitriol with Pastor Wright's, bloggers have unwittingly confirmed Pastor Wright's fundamental thesis that racism in alive and well in America. I shudder to think that most of my fellow Preger listeners can be propelled so easily into hate-filled diatribes of their own.

With respect to Gator Ray, he reveals his ignorance of escatology (the study of last things) when using the term "rupture" instead of "rapture" to descibe the catching up of end-time saints pictured in 1 Thess 4:16. Pastor Hagee does indeed subcribe to this interpretation, but most Christians--including McCain in all liklihood--whose theology is heavily influence by amillenialism, do not. (Gator Ray's lifts his observations from a recent editorial from David Sirota, who also needs to do some homework.)

For the last seven years, I've followed Hagee's ministry primarily with respect to his support of Israel, and don't recall him disparaging Catholicism. The historical rift between Protestatism and the Catholic Church has certainly inspired some hate-filled rhetoric over the past several hundred years. But it's a stretch for Gator Ray use the Reformation as a phiolosophical basis for rationalizing Pastor Wright's indefensible charges against the U.S. government.

Forget Wright. READ Obama himself
Read Dreams of my Father. This guy is a major psycho racist. Every page drips with resentment and stories that you think.. No , wait, this is a parody. This isn't really his book. Obama's parents didn't fight their daughter marrying a black man, but he can't accept that. A PICTURE(!) of some of their ancestors tells him the real truth. Looking at their squinty eyes he KNOWS they are really racists. Even though his Great great grandfather was a decorated soldier for the Union -- I swear to God I am not making this up -- Despite that HIS WIFE'S MOTHER was RUMORED to be Jefferson Davis's SECOND COUSIN. Shazam!! the REAL truth is out at last. This guy is a N-U-T NUT with a capital NU. What was your wife's mother's second cousin? Can you even find out? My wife's mother was born Czech. I am sure some of her second cousins are Communists. So??????

who is senator obama?
He is a man of great distinction. Barack is a man of his word. All of you bible beatin' thugs should get a life and get off of his case. He will be the nest President of the U.S.

Michelle Obama
"She needs to be more Jack-EE and not Jack-ay" per Obama's campaign on Katie Curick. WHAT?!!!

Michelle Obama's salary - $300K - WHAT?!!!

She left her high powered law firm job to work with the poor - WHAT?!!!!

Did anyone catch this crap? PEOPLE, PEOPLE, PEOPLE.....W-A-K-E U-P!!!!!!!!!!!!!
