Poll
Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

Many, perhaps even most, Democrats and Republicans are conflicted as to whom to vote for in the primaries.

Among Democrats, Barack Obama has enormous appeal -- even to most erstwhile Hillary Clinton supporters. He seems to evoke the John F. Kennedy enthusiasm that Democrats have been seeking for over a generation. He is young, vibrant, charismatic and very smart. And he is on the Left, where most Democratic Party activists are; the National Journal rated him the most liberal Democrat in the U.S. Senate. But he wears his leftism lightly, and by basing his campaign on "unity" and "change," he has alienated few Democrats, while apparently appealing to many independents.

On the other hand, Hillary Clinton has been popular with Democrats for years, and she is especially appealing to a core constituency of the Democratic Party -- women, especially single women.

So, many Democrats are genuinely torn. They admire Hillary Clinton, whom they have long known and supported, but they love Obama, whom they hardly know.

Among Republicans, the internal debate is quite different. Whereas most Democrats admire both their candidates and many love at least one of them, few Republicans love either John McCain or Mitt Romney. It is only a slight exaggeration to state that while Democrats wonder which of the two they love more, Republicans wonder which of the two they dislike, or, if you prefer, distrust, more.

Most Democrats go to the voting booth thrilled with one or both of their candidates; most Republicans are thrilled with neither of their two leading candidates.

In that way, the thinking of most Democrats and most Republicans could not be more different on this Super Tuesday. Ironically, however, many Republicans and Democrats are using the same reasoning in deciding whom to vote for: They are voting for the candidate they think has the best chance of winning in November.

Many Democrats who want Hillary Clinton to be the next president wonder whether she will always be too polarizing to win a national election. And many Democrats who adore Barack Obama wonder whether he can win given his inexperience, his youth, the fact that he is unknown -- and who knows what will yet be revealed about him?

Therefore, many Democrats are choosing whom to vote for not on the basis of who they believe will make the better president so much as who they think has the best chance of being elected president.

On the Republican side, the exact same thing is happening. Given the distrust -- deserved or not -- of both candidates among many Republicans, many are not even asking which candidate would make the better president, but which one has the better chance of winning the presidential election.

So, though they come from opposite views of their respective candidates -- Democrats from great enthusiasm and Republicans from little enthusiasm -- many primary voters in each party are choosing whom to vote for on the same basis.

I humbly but strongly suggest to Democrats and Republicans alike that they not vote today on the basis of who they think will win in November, but on which candidate they think will make the better president.

Many Americans have become so politically savvy that they are in danger of outsmarting themselves. Republicans and Democrats who vote on the basis of who will win rather than who they think would make the better president may well be making a big error. Between now and November is far too long a period of time to make any predictions.

The general election is eight months from now. Consider how much has changed in both parties in just the last 90 days: Hillary Clinton was virtually assured the Democratic nomination and Rudy Giuliani was way ahead in all Republican polls.

If there is any major terrorist attack in a Western country, not to mention in the United States, everything can change.

If the economy tanks or prospers, everything can change.

If the war in Iraq continues to improve and/or al-Qaida seems to be weakening, many more Americans may come to view the war in Iraq as having been worth the sacrifices Americans paid.

If one of the candidates stumbles, everything can change. Perhaps Barack Obama may have to confront revelations about his personal life, or about his church, or maybe some aide will get into trouble, or he may say something he regrets; Hillary Clinton may not recover from her negatives, or Bill Clinton may turn off more voters; John McCain may tire and look old or alienate much of the Republican conservative base; Mitt Romney may never connect with voters or recover from charges of flip-flopping.

So, Democrats, if you think Barack Obama would make a better president of the United States, vote for him. If you think Hillary Clinton would, vote for her. Don't vote for either because you are sure that he or she would do better in November. And, Republicans, if you think John McCain would make a better president, vote for him for that reason, not because you think he'll do better in November. And if you think Mitt Romney would be a better president than John McCain, vote for him. Don't deprive him of your vote because you don't think he'll win. Prophecy ended a long time ago.

McCain: Patriot, Hero, Conservative
Lots of people have theories about why John McCain is in very good shape for tomorrow. Some think it’s his personal characteristics. (The Pew poll offers some support for this theory with McCain’s favorable/unfavorable split at 72-18% among Republicans and Romney at 49-30%). Some think McCain has shown himself to be a real conservative. Others think being conservative or super-conservative is not enough to win elections, let alone Republican primaries. Some think the competition was weak. Still others find that Mitt Romney’s position changes (even on items in his own life story)are too much to bear, leaving them with no choice but to “question his sincerity.”

There are many reasons, but I would suggest an overriding one: the surge. Without McCain’s determination on the surge and its resulting success, the race would look quite different. In that effort, McCain did show his personal characteristics (tenacity and bravery, most clearly) and many Republicans, conservatives included, came to see him as a warrior in the toughest policy battle in recent memory. It was the means by which he distinguished himself from his competition and by which he could appeal to skeptics who came to see his past policy heresies in greater perspective. (Or it could just be that the competition was very, very weak.)

Instapundit questions Mitt's sincerity
Sometimes a candidate gets a little too much grief for misspeaking. The first time Mitt Romney said he was endorsed by the NRA in his gubernatorial run, he was wrong; the NRA rated him a “B,” which is not bad. (His Democratic opponent was an “A,” surprisingly. The NRA did not endorse in that race.) Apparently some NRA folk did some phone-banking for him, and Romney mistook that for an endorsement, and I guess I can see how that mistake could be made. The key is to note that he was told of his mistake back in December.

And then, in an interview a few days ago with Glenn Reynolds, the Instapundit, Romney claimed to be endorsed by the NRA again.

When it happens multiple times, one begins to wonder if Romney just wants to assert the endorsement and hopes that the person he’s speaking to doesn’t hear the correction.

Glenn comes across to me as a particularly fair-minded interviewer, but after Race42008 demonstrates a couple of different positions in a short span of time — telling Tim Russert he would sign the Assault Weapons Ban, telling Glenn and Helen that he would oppose it — Glenn concludes, “I’m beginning to question his sincerity.”

It's an easy choice for Republicans
As I see it, there are four contenders with a chance to become President. One is a conservative and three are democrats. It doesn't matter which one of the three democrat wins (even if one democrat falsely claims to be a Republican). They will all act like democrats, lie, force amnesty on the American people, and support the global warming fairy tale.

The conservative says he'll close the borders, not grant amnesty. govern by conservative principles, and pursue the war on terror. Why is this such a hard choice for Republicans?

Democrats and Republicans are different
Republicans and Democrats see things differently.

Democrats believe their candate is the second comming and the Republican opponent is Satan while the Republicans know their candidate when elected has to work with the oppostion party who think he's Satan.

John McCain was always a weeler dealer working with Democrats while the Republicans stood in solidarity to bad Democrat legislation. Romney (as well as Gulianni) was elected in a heavily liberal or Democrat area. I'ts reasonable to believe they comprised some of their conservitave principles to get elected in these left leaning areas. No excuse can be made for McCain on this since Arizona is a conservitave state.

It's possible Romneys flip flops may flop to the right if he becomes president. McCain however, being from a conservitave state would have no reason to move right since he should already be there.

Loving your candidate
You overlook the ONE viable candidate who has inspired Republicans: Mike Huckabee. With no money, and despite being attacked from every direction, he has succeeded against all odds, is still holding his own in many states and still has a loyal following. In fact, in the last 4 days, he has had his largest fundraising effort ever--even though the media and Republican establishment have pulled out all the stops to destroy him and the mainstream media has written his political obituary.

If the Republican establishment and media elite had shown half the kindness to Huckabee that they've extended to Romney (whom they've given a free ride), Huckabee would have wrapped up the Republican nomination tomorrow and we would be rallying around a witty, articulate, genuinely compassionate conservative. We'd have a proven Executive who has beaten the Clinton machine on their home turf. Instead, the conservative pundits launched an all-out assault on Huckabee in an attempt to shove a flip-flopping Country Club phony down our throats. As many are realizing too late: they bet on the wrong horse. Not only will the Republicans pay, the entire country will pay when the Democrats easily wipe up the floor with John McCain aka this year's version of Bob Dole.

John McCain is a fine man
VOTE FOR FRED
http://ImStillwithFred08.com

Fred Thompson is still our choice. Fred Thompson, a young attorney working for the justice department, hand picked by Ronald Reagan, helped defend some of our choices to vote for “the Republican,” Richard Nixon. Fred Thompson, as a senior Republican diplomat, left us with a coherent interpretation of our conservative views. Fred Thompson gave us a conservative focus that allowed us to find a new interpretation of ourselves as Republicans. Fred crafted thoughts and opinions into simple effective coherent statements and published those, point by point on his website as a primer to assist in finding our way as a nation. Fred has set an example and laid the groundwork for the next generation Conservative.

Vote your principles, GIVE FRED DELAGATES IN THE CONVENTION, no need to waste the signs, keep them up as a symbol of principal. We now have a responsibility to choose again, as for me, I’m going to vote for Fred if his name is on the ballot.

Sticking to our guns and strength and standing by Fred now costs one vote. The campaign for the White House was about us, not Fred. The campaign for the White House was about who we chose to lead, not the available choices. Give Fred the delegates in the convention to symbolize our conviction to our principles, not for Fred, for us.

The right to choose cost some of our fellow citizens, countrymen and family the ultimate price. Our price for our right to choose based on our principles is one vote.

VOTE FOR FRED…

Always vote for principle, though you may vote alone, and you may cherish the sweetest reflection that your vote is never lost.
John Quincy Adams

The best man is
Huckabee.

Well This is Kinda Interesting
How much you wanna bet that, were some bunch of fine folks to come on and opine that we should vote the "best" candidate, the one who most embodies what we want in limited government --

-- and you know who I'm talking about --

-- that Prager (and others) would state, "Don't throw your vote away."

Hmmm.

So, I'm guessing that voting for someone who's "electable" is a bad thing, because he's not the "best", and voting for someone who you believe is "best" is a bad thing because he's not "electable".

I may yet just stay home after all. This is all too confusing.

It would have been nice
for articles like this to have come out when we really had the best running, who were declared "unelectable."

Democrats have it easy
--
Their purpose is to ravage and destroy, so all they have to do is anoint the chieftain who is the most charismatic advocate of sack, rapine, and pillage.

Given the history of events like Ruby Ridge and Waco, and the international policy experience of Rwanda, I'd have to say that Billary is a slam-dunk for them.

(Aw, c'mon; you *KNOW* who was really making the policy decisions in the last Clinton White House while Good Ol' Bubba was furthering his quest to define the true definition of words like "sex" and "is." Would a trouser-snake-twirling snatch hound like Bill *ever* chose a woman as hideous as Janet Reno for Attorney General knowing he has to look at her during cabinet meetings?)

Those of us on the other side have had the same kind of slam-dunk, but in reverse.

We want a limited-government constitutionalist willing to gut it up and reduce government overspending, overtaxation, and "Big Brother" intrusiveness, both foreign and domestic. We want the abolition of whole departments of the federal government (Education and Energy, for a start), and the enforcement of the Bill of Rights as if those first ten Amendments were - honest to God - the literal law of the land.

On the "social" side, we want someone willing to get the federal government out of the issue of voluntary abortion, kicking it back to the state governments where there's a chance for people to get their voices heard and respected.

Federalism is, after all, our friend.

And we've still got a candidate supporting that platform. Even with zero charisma, he's gotten *TONS* of grassroots support.

Damnably, however, what the RINOs leading the GOP are going to give us instead of Ron Paul is going to be the Dole '96 campaign all over again.

Yet another Goddamned spinelessly "bipartisan" specimen of Rockefeller Republican.

*Sigh!*

BOHICA, folks. We're getting screwed again.

--

Well argued, Dennis
Four years ago, as a Democrat, I supported Kerry because I thought he was electable. He turned out to be a terrible candidate. This time my vote goes to Obama, despite my fears that the Republican attack machine will chew him up and spit him out. This is a man that appeals to our "better angels", something the country needs desperately. And though I'm not voting on race, I can't help but think of the symmetry of, within my lifetime, watching televised scenes of Bull Connor's thugs spraying high-pressure water on peaceful demonstrators and now seeing the serious possibility of, not a black President, but a President who happens to be black.

Maybe it will even show that most white Americans are people of good will on race and get us beyond identity politics. That would be a pretty good outcome for the country even if you don't agree with his politics.

TRUE TO SELF/Honest to God
Why do people vote for who they think can win which is really who others say they think can win who gets more coverage so the media is deciding your vote!?
In the primary its not to pick who we think can win against the D. Its who do most republicans want, if most republicans want him then more votes will already be MORE likely to vote for him in the general.; then some will follow. We don’t win by guessing who will win by being complacent or not even being a true republican; we win by standing for what we believe in. I’m not voting for something I do NOT believe in for the sake of winning so a quote "R"(republican) is in the WhiteHouse. If I vote for something I don’t believe in and they do get in the W.H. I still lose. I win by being true to myself.

liberal media
yesterday, I looked at the "head to "head" numbers and MCVain had fallen to a tie with Clinton and was being beaten by Obama, but today I see that the "Liberals in Control" are managing an election day "head to head" win scenario against both Clinton and Obama!
After FL (although it was really bad before) the MSM, inclusive of FOX, became outright McVain cheerleaders; even O'Reilly, election eve, last evening focused on free Huckabee exposure! It's sickening to see Americans being "herded" like this, very Orwellian.
Looked at my Newsmax "spam" just a minute ago, and saw the "leader": Mass now in play! Went to realclear for any new polls and still saw a 22.5 aggregate Romnet lead in Mass, but NOT a word about McVain's AZ being in play, and shows recent poll at only 9 point lead for McVain! Private internal polls by AZ GOP show McVain tied with Romney, and I'll be LMAO if Romney takes WTA AZ.

Thanks Prager, I'll Vote For Huckabee
Okay, even though he is not likely to win first in many places, I will vote for the best man, Huckabee, and I also hope, since he is the best man, that he remains in the race until the end, even if he is not winning.

Admirable but misplaced optimism
You say," I humbly but strongly suggest ...that they vote not on the basis of who they think will win in November but on which candidate they think will make the best president,"

If the voters were capable of such a rational approach to their elected officials and all such monumentous political decisions as this, AND if the parties nominated candidates who will fit this description, we wouldn't be in the mess we now find ourselves in.

Vote your conscience
Great article. According to the 1992 exit polls, if people had voted the way Dennis Praeger suggests
Ross Perot would have been president. We would not have a continually rising deficit and debt. Manufacturing jobs would still be in the United States, along with many other outsourced jobs.
And, our foreign policy would be very different.

The Death of Our Be Loved Conservatism
Part 1

It has slowly become quite obvious to ''US'' true blue Christian Conservatives that much more died than day when Ronald Reagan was Buried .
Little did I know my tears were for ME , my friends and former Marine friends . Actually all of America and the world in the long run .
Our Hopes for a better America inspired by only President Reagan (after Carter horrific years ) restored this Countries honor like never before since or after WW 2 .
Our Traditions , moral values and ethic's were buried along with him that sunny day in California . Who could have believed back then this would happen to us Conservatives and this Country ?
There was no formal Funeral Arraignments given us but as Robert Dole failed and the Bush's both came to office .
So called "'MODERATE " RePub's took over that party our Funerals were being planned and our Grave sites dug all along . There were no Ceremonies for US sense the Media , Abortion rights advocates , ACLU , Unions , Criminals , Big Government high Tax Lovers , Global warning or Tree Hugger's , UN , Colleges or those on Welfare ,Gay's , Illegals all hated us along with Moderate RePub's .
Of course Liberals , Socialist , Marxist and Atheist were no shows as well and they all smiled at our possible passing .
Now We have 3 so called Social moderate Conservatives ''That Ain't Conservatives even close " carrying the RePub's Parties Banner now (((again )).
I see losing the 2006 Election total embarrassment , beating and whipping taught them nothing . Nothing at all for the up coming 2008 Election . How sad .
We are much alone in a crowd of many since words like '' CONSENSUS "without common sense will never have merit with Conservatives since we learned Reagan stood tall and all alone when he said to the world Russia would fall while the world laughed at him .

The Death of Our Be Loved Conservatism
Part 2

This is getting very old and tiresome having to Vote for men that couldn't carry even one drop of Dirt of Reagan's Apple tree's baring much fruit of VA 's Top Soil and the heights of our Blue Ridge Mountains and the size and depth of the Atlantic ocean feeding many that chose to fish . We feed those now that don't and want fish . Reagan would bare a tear knowing there were more paid not to fish .
We are in a deep Hold in the earth and it is a swamp infested where no Country would like to go that knew any better and would ever happen or to be Buried Ronald Reagan taught us and we once also believed .We were all wrong sadly .
I see the Grave diggers getting out of their Trucks . I can see their Faces in the distance . There is a White haired Tall man with a wife laughing .Oh Me it is Bill Clinton and his wife.
I also see a young black man named Oboma who is a slim Fellow and a very old Tired looking man they called John McCain . They carry Shovels in their hands and they all smile in their oneness , unity and friendship as they bury us . They bare no flowers for us or this country . Our smiles are gone as well while we all watch the Burial of our much beloved Conservatism I pray not since it is our COUNTRY we Love much more than Conservatism ......It is America that isn't breathing or seeking the shining star over the hill anymore .

Words?

I try to be objective about these things but all I've ever heard out of this man are vague platitudes which can be interpreted to mean whatever one wishes.

Spectre of Doom
A spectre has been haunting the American economy for decades---decades of growing massive debt, enormous taxation, worthless money-----and, unbridled government.

Candidates aren't dealing with these issues and implications for the future.

I want them talking to us about this spectre of massive debt, enormous taxation, worthless money, and unbridled government; so we will be informed when making decisions.

I need to know what they intend to do to stop this progressive economic cannibalism of our economic and future prosperity. I, also, want to know whom we should blame for decades of this cursed economic quagmire of quicksand dragging us down.

Putting the nation's economy in shape with a footing of sound money ought to be the highest priority for our nation in this decisive year; absolutely more important, than the same old mind games, media scare tactics, tiresome platitudes, emotional pandering, utter nonsense, coming out of the mouths of this year's crop of candidates.

It's time for logical and rational analyses.

Begin with the absolutism of this as the major premise: The capital formed during the latter 19th century and early 20th century is the capital that made the 20th century, the American Century, and rewarded the American people with the highest standard of living in the world.. That capital has now been squandered by the Marxism of Democrats, and replaced by massive debt, enormous taxation, worthless money.---and, unbridled government.

treacherous republicans writes:
"reagan was a loser who tripled our national debt. it is a disgrace that he is revered..."

On what planet do you reside, tr?

Try reading the Constitution and then explain how President Reagan tripled the national debt.

Hint: Presidents are part of the "Executive" branch of government.

The Anchoress on unfair attacks of Mac
I’ve been writing for the past few days about my complete disillusionment with the far-right and their finger-wagging, hyperventilation that Republicans and “true” conservatives must vote for Mitt Romney, for no other reason, apparently than because he is not John McCain.

There has been some really shameful demagoguery against McCain from people who ordinarily would show some respect for a man who spent 6 years in a VietCong POW camp, too, which to my way of thinking says many more negative things about the sign-holders and aspersion-casters than it does about McCain.

UPDATE: Here is an except from the link below - the statement of a fellow POW of McCain’s who does not support him politically:

A friend, whom I know to be reliable, was across the hall and one door down, from McCain’s cell when McCain was first captured. He has told me that he saw Communist officers enter the cell where the wounded John McCain lay, incapacitated. He heard them offer McCain early release and heard John answer that he would go home when we all go home. He heard the voices of the officers rising until they were shouting angrily at McCain and threatening him. This was followed by screams of agony from John McCain, and a stream of obscenities from him. He could not see what they did to him and I never heard from John McCain what it was. This does not sound like a collaborator.

The man has a son in Iraq and one at Annapolis - he is undoubtedly a Patriot. To call him a “Benedict Arnold” as these people do is disgusting and out -of-line. It is, more than anything, what I find disturbing about the excesses of the far-right.

While Prager is unually inept
and usually illogical - though he claims to be uber logical - I'm still thinking through today's column.

Taking account of what you think other people will do is standard practice in stock market investing, i.e., considering the knowledge of crowds. If you think Hillary is the most electable you are making the judgment that the crowd, as an aggregate, knows something that any one individual could get wrong. People, also, like to be on the winning side.

All in all, I think Prager has elected to discard some of the constituents of the process that people use in making up their own minds, i.e., we do take other people's opinions or behavior into consideration.

Ergo, Prager is once again being unrealistic about humans and our behavior. My advice: vote for whom you think is best as long as they have a good chance to win; and you have to decide what you think is "good."

andlike Truehawk I will vote for the man I think is the best, Mike Huckabee. Fred, I won't vote for Mitt because he is just such a damn phony. He is playing all of you like a car salesman with a big fine looking house that is made of sawdust and mirrors. Rotten inside but nice and shiny on the outside.

Sam
I don't know who you were responding to, but it surely wasn't me you quoted.

Perhaps "terminally repulsiveness's" maniacal posts directed to me had you confused.

Should vote for who Dennis likes?
Last week on air Dennis said only ego could keep Ron Paul in the race because he has no chance to win. Today Dennis says vote for who you think best regardless if he can win.

Well Dennis, which is it? Maybe you would have us vote for who you think is best to be sure we get it right.

As a Republican I find Mit, Huck and Mccain completely distasteful, and would never vote for any of them. This is exactly how I felt about Bish2, Dole, and Bush 1 (the reelection year) so I abstained in those years. Thank goodness the ego maniac Paul has stayed in the running so I can at least vote in this years primary.

So far
the candidates that revere the Constitution in "both" major parties have been run off leaving us, again, with lousy choices .
The primaries system is stacked against real people in favor of professional politicians and will remain so until the next revolution unless The People change it.
If the idea is to decide who CAN win everyone should be allowed to vote for 1 candidate in each party regardless of which party they identify themselves with.

Huckabee
Huckabee in his relentless personal attacks on Romney turned me off to him after Iowa; I'm sorry I ever wrote a letter and/or email on his behalf and donated to his Iowa campaign.
The Huck wants to claim leadership in faith, but his vitriol for Romney and now proven collusion with other GOP campaigns against Romney disgust me.

"terminally repulsive"

I know this is going to be a blow to your fragile ego - but I have been reading other columns while you have been sitting in Mommy's basement going apoplectic about Reagan's record.

No - I don't need to Google anything about our nation's greatest 20th century president. Unlike you, I was actually a living ADULT during his terms and know firsthand the FACTS - not the revisionist history (aka, "fantasy") you Left-Commies drink like Koolaid.

Keep the faith, though. Someday, perhaps after you achieve mental adulthood - you too will outgrow the liberal mental disorder and enter recovery.

Unfortunately, as someone registered in one of the later States, the Primaries are generally a one-horse-race by the time May rolls around and the Election is always a "choice" of the lesser-of-two-evils. This time around I do think the Primaries could last until May.

Charlie
Huckabee and Romeny and their backers are angry at each other because each wants to be the only man standing to fight McCain, and neither wanted to step back for the other guy. Huckabee can claim that In Missouri, Tennessee, Georgia and Oklahoma, that if it wasn't for Romney, he'd likely win. Romney makes similar claims. No one really knows, of course, it its true. What we do know is that this disagreement is personal and that their camps seem to believe it. And so, they both try to claim that it's the other guys fault if McCain ends up winning the nomination.

"terminally repulsive" asks:
"are you saying that the gop, beginning with reagan, hasn't run up our debt like a teenager with a credit cards..."

No.

I'm saying you need a civics lesson. Learn which branch of the government controls spending.

And while you are at it - find your "Shift" key on the keyboard. You know, the one that makes the little letters into the big letters. You might also familiarize yourself with the punctuation symbols while you're at it.

The Only Conservative
Ron Paul is the only conservative in the race. You can vote for him, vote to save our country, or you can vote for a RINO and watch the USA slide further down the drain for four more years.

The choice is yours.

Dennis
What percentage of folks out there put money on the NY Giants to win the superbowl? Those are the folks that will take a chance on someone not 'electable.'

I'm disgusted that the most conservative candidates never got the coverage and have already abandoned the race.

Wouldn't it be fun to have a nation-wide primary that happened on the same day and NO POLLS to tell us who we should vote for?

What do we really want?
If someone asked me what I want in a president I could give them a very direct answer.I want a man who believes in principles and values to lead our nation based on the Constitution. Where government takes a backseat to the people and what the people can do for themselves. I want a leader who is going to tell me the truth even if I don't like it.A leader who can look our enemy in the eye and not back down,in fact send the "don't mess with me"attitude.A leader who the rest of the world will have an awe to when he speaks.I could go on but I'll just say I believe that man, that leader is Fred Thompson. Now come back with childish slams and personal attacks, then try to attack his record or his proposals to solve the major issues we are concerned about. Electable? You're funny we don't have a clear choice we can agree on as a party because of that irrelevant word

For McCain
I have pointed out the electability of John McCain to remind everyone that any other Republican nominee, and particualrly Romney, almost certainly guarantees a Hillary or Obama presidency that will mean appeasement in foreign policy, increased government spending and the nomination of left wing judges to the federal judiciary. Sorry, Dennis, but in the world of practical politics, electability cannot be ignored.

Having said that, I do support John McCain because I think that in this day of war with the radical Islamic extremists, we need the best Commander in Chief available, and that clearly is John McCain. Also, McCain is a pro-life fiscal conservative who will be good to his word about cutting government spending and who pledged to the Federalist Society in January 2007 and ever since then to nominate strict constructionist judges to the federal judiciary (see the column in the February 4th Wall Street Journal by Northwwestern Law School Professors Stephen Calabresi and John McGinnis arguing for McCain as the best hope for the appointment of conservative judges).

Actually, Dennis
You make a good point in one regard. What would happen if we just let the chips fall where they may....no endorsements by anyone, equal media coverage for all candidates, and NO POLLING data?

How much do polls influence our decisions? How accurate are they? I look at pollsters in the same way I look at accountants...what do you want the bottom line to be? An accountant will cook the books to project what the boss wants, not necessarily what the raw numbers will indicate.

Kinda like unemployment figures in an election year.

Huh?
Wait, you're saying I should vote for the best candidate? Gee, I never thought of that before. What a brilliant insight. How does he do it folks?

If you haven't gotten enough polling information yet, defineitly listen to Prager today to get an audio poll of his audience members. It's a thrill a minute on the Dennis Prager show. Weeeeee!

Phylo out

Prager makes a good point, but
does not continue to the logical conclusion, especially for conservative voters. If we have so much fundamental angst about our choices maybe we should focus more on affirming our philosophical commitment than on 'buying' any particular nominee.

Today's choice is much like the offer of a good deal on a used station wagon or a luxury coupe, when what we really want is an SUV. Perhaps this is a good time to look for another car lot and leave the lemons to the other guys.

You people think that if you shout loud enough and use the power of al the corrupt media, you will sience common sense - but you are wrong. Ron Paul is the only one with asound foreign policy and one that hasn't been tried in awhile.
Try respecting sovereignty, both our own and that of other nations. Try discourse to settle our differences or just agree to disagree. If we mind our own business, we wil have very little conflict with the rest of the world.

Ron Paul also knows how to defend our country better than any of the RINOs. If we don't squander our energy and money policing the world we will have a stronger national defense than ever before. And have you considered that, at this moment, we could not defend our own soil against an invasion because of our international escapades?

Interesting how my last post mentioning Ron Paul disappeared. Watch if that happens to yours Pianogirl. VOTE RON PAUL!

MOST VOTERS ARE POLITICALLY SAVVY?

.....Prager ...You cannot possibly believe that ...

.....If you substituted the word "illiterate" for "savvy" then you would begin to make sense ...

.....In a recent poll a majority of Republicans thought that McCain was best suited to deal with the illegal immigration problem ...does that sound like savvy to you? ...

.....McCain is benefiting from "name recognition" ...media labels like "war hero". "maverick", "character" ...in other words thirty second sound bytes generated by the media in an attempt to select the Republican they think will be most easily defeated in November ...

..... From beltway insiders it is the notion that "he has paid his dues", the "it's his turn" mentality that gave us Bob Dole (another RINO who prided himself on his ability to work across the aisle) ...and who was easily trounced by Bill Clinton ...

.....Let's face it ....the average voter is unaware of the issues and votes with his "gut" ...he is politically illiterate and easily influenced by the media .....COLOSSUS

A Vote for Mitt
I just voted for Mitt Romney. I believe he is the best choice for America. He is a successful business man and that's what America is all about as Calvin Coolidge said: "The business of America is business."

Moreover, I think Mitt would be as cool under pressure as Eli Manning. From what I read about John McCain he is a reckless pilot with a temper that can explode at any moment. With all his other baggage, he needs to fade away like MacArthur and John Kerry. If not, Americans, and the rest of the world, will observe the truth of the Peter Principle at the highest level of command.

Sam,
why bother with someone who only posts here to incite people. He is cowardly roach that does his little damage and scurries away when the lights go on. He won't even give you a fair chance to step on him.

Dislike The Most?
In the last two days I've been receiving robo calls from the McLame campaign. Every one of them has been a mean-spirited distortion of Mitt Romney's record, ironically in the areas where McLame is the weakest; immigration, taxes, abortion. I will NEVER vote for that creep EVER! If he runs against Obama I will vote for Obama just to send a message to the party that character matters and this low, aged guttersnipe is not worthy of my support.

Yes, vote for who is BEST for America
vote your conscience, not JUST the party line favorite. Not the media darling.

ModerateMark
Yes, I almost alluded to the British election system. It makes a lot more sense than McCain-Feingold.

Doesn't it bother anyone else
that the Iowa caucus, NH, FL etc (the early primaries) have more influence than the country as a whole?

That, coupled with the slanted/biased and unequal coverage from the MSM...I feel manipulated. Heck, all my favorite candidates bowed out long before today.

I don't want an 'electable' candidate. I don't want the one that has the most Money going in. I want to vote for someone I can feel good about voting for because they espouse my values.

That is why I will not vote for the 'electable' candidate.

The bitter pill in all of this is that a handful of states have already influenced the election choices.

Mitt Romney
You are wrong on one point - there are some of us who are and have been excited about our candidate. I feel like Mitt Romney is the most talented candidate we have had in many years. I have always been confused as to what people are looking for. I have researched all the republican candidates and there is nobody else with so many awesome attributes. I have attributed much to jealousy of him - and there is much to be jealous of!!

Don't over-analyze
This is a great article, and I've always told people not to over analyze the candidates, but vote for who and what you believe in.

Don't let anyone tell you your vote is a "wasted vote". A vote is NEVER wasted if it's for something you believe in.

This talk of only voting for someone just because they have a better chance of winning is crap. Every single election cycle, every single one, there are people that tell you have to vote for the "lesser of two evils" or some nonsense.

Don't listen to that bull. Vote for what you believe in, for who you believe in.

How Ironic!
You know, Dennis, I did just what you suggested and voted for who is best--MIKE HUCKABEE.

Ironically, you somehow forgot to mention him. So I will. He is the only conservative candidate running for the GOP nomination. Slick Mitty's position on the issues changes with the direction of the political winds. And McCain is a moderate hostile to conservative beliefs.

For those of you still deciding today, check out http://www.mikehuckabee.com. I dare you!

BTW, fiscal conservatives, which governor candidate left office with a $850,000 surplus in his state's treasury?

HINT: NOT Mitt Romney!

Lust on the left
Prager said "Many Democrats are genuinely torn. They admire Hillary Clinton, whom they have long known and supported, but they love Obama, whom they hardly know."

Sounds like Bill.

Mr. Prager is right
We should vote for whomever we think will make the best President. So, I'm seriously considering writing in Fred Thompson.

How about now since Alternative energy is a damn joke you Liberals are jamming down our pocket books and kids minds .THAT WAR WANT BE PRETTY TO WATCH !

Agreement (almost)
For the most part I would have to agree with Dennis's suggestion. Republicans and Democrats both should look at the issues, accurately determine each candidate's positions on those issues, then vote for the one which most closely matches are own personal positions. In doing this, it is hoped that we can overlook much of the campaign rhetoric that distorts the candidates' positions on those issues.

On the other hand, electability should not be entirely dismissed by the informed voter. Much can and will happen between now and the general elections in November. But one thing that we can say with some measure of certainty: there are two candidates on the Republican side who, based on the past performance in the primaries/caucuses, are unrealistic choices. We must then ask ourselves whether by voting for one of these two, we might actually be diverting a vote away from another candidate with whom we agree on most, if not all, issues, thereby helping another candidate with whom we have little or no agreement whatsoever.

It is up to each voter to use good common sense, as well as truly informed opinion regarding the issues, when casting his or her vote.

Happy Super Tuesday to all!

Since when did "many Americans" become politically saavy. Just because millions of them are reading blogs now does not mean that they know how our government works. Many of the so-called saavy still use the phrase "the President passed legislation." Apparently "saavy" in this case means increasingly ignorant as you have pointed out in the presidential selection process of both parties.
The races we really need to focus on are our congressional reps. If we do not take back the House and Senate, we might as well just hand over our entire paychecks to the feds if Hillary or Obama are president. That's really intelligent, I admit Ron Paul is right about a lot of things, but given the fact that he isn't a serious contender, you could save a lot of time by staying home and writing "RON PAUL" on a slip of paper and posting it on your refrigerator!

It will have exactly the same effect.

the best candidate...
I voted for the best candidate out there: Ron Paul. Everyone else is contemptuous power-hungry scum.

Funny excerpts here, Denny:

If there is any major terrorist attack in a Western country, not to mention in the United States, everything can change.

--You're just dying for this, aren't you, Denny? You neocon types love it when we're attacked. That's why you love inflaming the rest of the world. Of course, the cowardly neocons don't actually fight. That's the job of other lesser beings, right, Denny?

If the economy tanks or prospers, everything can change.

--Newsflash, Denny - the economy *has* tanked. There's this little sub-prime mortgage crisis going on. Maybe you've heard of it. Or maybe you've heard of the impending doom from all of GWB's giveaway programs (prescription drugs and myriad other entitlements) that dwarf Clinton's.

If the war in Iraq continues to improve and/or al-Qaida seems to be weakening, many more Americans may come to view the war in Iraq as having been worth the sacrifices Americans paid.

--Improving? If the results weren't so tragic, this would be comical. Or maybe arming our enemies in order to claim "the surge is working" really is a positive development. Or maybe our allies the Turks bombing our allies the oil-rich Kurds is wonderful news.

No wonder why people are leaving the GOP in droves.

Idiot.

Intelligent is voting in lock step with what a party tells you. You get McCain or Romney. Take it or leave it. That's almost as good as Cuba. You get Fidel. Take him or leave him. Tell me, what do sheep like you have for lunch?

wally
You must have voted for Bush.

Ron Paul
Ron Paul is in this race for the long haul. It's the classic tortoise and the hare scenario playing out. The sprinters are dropping by the wayside. Soon it will only be McCain and Paul left in the race for the Republican nomination. Ron Paul, running the steady race for freedom, liberty, peace, prosperity, limited constitutional government, strong national defense, etc...., will eventually win out. After all, when faced with the choice of McCain (liberal-Rockefeller wing of the GOP) and Paul (libertarian-conservative wing of the GOP), who do you think the delegates in Minneapolis-St. Paul will support?

Go Ron Paul, All The Way!!!!!

My vote is for Huckabee too!
Unbelievable how Romney pulls the strings and his media talking head puppets do his bidding. Wall Street Mitt will say/do/promise anything to get a vote. He and his camp will also cast millions (of dollars) of stones at his opponents with mischaracterizations, half-truths, and manipulations breaking Ronald Reagan’s 11th Commandment. Very sad.

The only true conservative is Mike Huckabee. Huckabee has my vote and my loyalty.

All the liberals will vote for him in November. HaHaHaHa!!!

Convincing argument?
If it's not about electability then I should be writing in Fred Thomson today. Of course electability is a big factor. To claim otherwise is preposterous.

A military hero now ready for presidency
He served his country by wearing the uniform. He has been honored for his service and has continued to serve his country as a U.S. Senator. The venom on this thread is heavy
There's a lot of sniping, and vitriol being thrown around in this thread, yet most of the posts say very little.

So far I've seen a lot of "Nya Nya, my guy is better" yet very little to back that up.

The Huckabee crowd is concerned with one thing, Keeping an "Evil Mormon" out of the WH.

The McCain crowd have completely deluded themselves into believing the guy who endorsed hillary clinton, and was Jon Kerry's 1st pick for VP is somehow a Conservative.

Of course we have the usual handful of Paulites shilling for their High Priest.

Prager tells more truth than many on this thread can see. Don't vote for the candidate you think is most "Electable" We tried that in 1976 with Ford. We tried it again in 1996 with Dole.
Remember how those turned out? Our "Electable" candidate got stomped.

Now that thompson has pulled out of the race, the most conservative candidate we have is Mitt Romney. Speaking as one who voted Thompson in the MI primary, I'm asking all Fred-Heads along with anyone on the fence to take a good look at the candidates, and vote for the only candidate left on our side that Stands up for our values.

It's Not McCain,(transgressions too numerous to mention)

It's not Huckabee (Social conservative, fiscal Liberal. Nanny stater)

and it's not Paul, (Good economics, Insane foreign policy)

That only leaves one,

Romney 08

Good question, but I wasn't considering voting on a candidate that's gone. I was referring to candidates that are still available for voting, such as Huckabee or Paul for example. I've seen the posts by someone requesting people still vote for Thompson, but I don't understand why if he's off the ballot. As far as I've heard, he's gone. I guess that would be an instance where "wasted vote" would be more applicable...but that's just my opinion.

the arrantly ignorant electorate
It is ASTONISHING that so many who are upset about ILLEGALS invading America do not get that McAmnesty is LYING when he says, a la Presidente Jorge Bush, that "border security and enforcement must come first," even as Mcamnesty retains Smilin' Juan Hernandez to work for him, who previously worked for Vicente Fox. A poll just said that people imagine by 2:1 that Mcamnesty would deal better with ILLEGALS than Mitt, though Mitt has been endorsed by Tom Tancredo for "walking the walk" on enforcement, while McAmnesty winks at his ILLEGAL amigos.

Fabius Cunctator
I have no idea if God's angry at our country. You can ask us to pretend we're God, but that's a nonsensical thing to do. There's no one on this planet that knows what God thinks or how He would react, and there's many people that don't even believe in a God. I personally don't think our government should be run like a church, but instead should be run according to the Constitution (not a huge federal government, but allowing states the right to run things not specified in the Constitution).

This country can still be a great country even if there are numerous imperfections within it, regardless of religion. People can still have liberty regardless of religion.

There can be lengthy debate on many of the points you make, too, so I won't respond to them.

Jackpine Savage...
You claim Romney is the most conservative candidate. Fair enough.

Do you mean the same Mitt Romney who passed that insidious "assault weapons ban" in Mass? The same Mitt Romney who was pro-choice? The same Mitt Romney who promoted government intervention in health care in Mass? That Mitt Romney, or do you buy that he's undergone a fundamental paradigm shift and is actually a true conservative now?

Maybe you buy his "epiphanies", but for me, his governing record speaks louder than his current rhetoric. Remember, Mitt-Flop has a well-documented history of pandering to his *current* voting populace.

My question to you is, where do you think Mitt-Flop will stand in 6 months if he (God forbid) gets the nomination?

My prediction is that he'll have spoken to some generals/admirals in the military and... wonder of wonders, he'll have another "epiphany," and advocated a timetable for withdraw.

And of course, it will have nothing to do with the fact that 70% of voting Americans want us out of Iraq. Just keep telling yourself that.

Mitt is a smooth-talking snake oil salesman. Anyone who's paid attention to his record knows this to be true. He stands for nothing, and will only say what's popular.

Sorry - I had enough of that with Bubba Clinton. I'd like to at least know where a candidate stands before supporting him/her.

King Liberal...
In a way, this hard-core conservative is hoping the GOP dissolves. The inmates have hijacked the asylum under Bush's disastrous tenure. All the former conservative principles Team Elephant allegedy used to espouse are flushed down the toilet. I'm completely disgusted with the party after they abandoned every conservative principle and boosted the power structure in DC.

My entire life, I thought GOP candidates were either good or at least significantly "less evil" than the Dems. Not so anymore. The GOP is far far far worse than the Donkeys because 1) they dishonestly claim to be conservative and small-government oriented, and 2) they actually *increase* the size and scope of the federal government *far* more. Some die-hard GOP zealots say things would be much worse with the Dems in charge, but the data refute that claim.

This is why the GOP is shrinking everyday, ever-more. The 1994 Revolution is over. Goldwater is no longer cited or respected.

Therefore, my respect and support for the GOP is no longer justified. I'll likely leave the party along with most of the other former Republicans with IQs over 90.

Read before you vote
Guys make sure you check out the article "The Intoxication of Inspiration" on the blogzine SAVAGE POLITICS (not related to Mike Savage) at http://www.savagepolitics.com. It is awesome......everyone should read it before voting.

Agree on sentiment, disgree on conclusio
Though I agree that people should vote their conscience, I disagree with your conclusions that people do not believe in their candidates. I believe Michael Medved, though wrong, is happy about the concept of a McCain presidency. I, as with many others including your other friend Hugh are very behind Romney. There are always those who are not happy, IE: Ron Paul followers, but as Abe Lincoln stated: (I think) "You can fool some people all the time, you can fool all the people some of the time, but you cannot fool all the people all of the time". I believe the word please can be substituted for fool and you have most situations in politics. People will never be completely pleased with anybody, It didn't happen with Reagan (at the time at least, history is kinder than present time), it doesn't even happen with most people and their selves. Rare indeed is the person that is even completely happy with who they are, so how can you expect everyone to come behind one person. Personally, I hope Romney wins because, I do not want to vote Democrat or Libertarian in the General Election. I will not vote for Mc Liar!

I'm not a Democrat or a Republican
Many of Mr. Prager's readers are not Democrats or Republicans. We align ourselves with a third party or vote independently of party.

Those of us in this category always vote for the best candidate.

The best presidental candidate is the one that can win because it doesn't do you any good to put forward someone who you might like but has no chance at winning.

King Liberal
King Liberal said: "The question now is if McCain wins will the base of the GOP split off into an ultra conservative party? For Democrats that would be a dream and the best case scenario-a GOP purified of the far right and ready to sit at the negotiating table in a non-partisan way."

I'll stay with the remnants of the GOP base under your hypothetical. Perhaps due to a stereotypical "country club" Republican upbringing, I believe in fiscal conservatism, a strong military, traditional family values, and moderation in all other categories. If the extreme right wishes to leave the GOP to form an ultra-conservative party, I bid them adieu, even at the cost of temporarily marginalizing the Party. Perhaps we can work something out with the Libertarians and a few Moderate Democrats.

In the present election, I favor Romney but will support McCain wholeheartedly if he wins the GOP nomination. I am a Party loyalist, for better or worse. When I was a young College Republican, I recall Democratic and Republican moderates cooperating to make government work at all levels. Partisans were barely distinguishable from one other as most folks converged towards the center. There is something to be said for moderation. Did you know that Wikipedia currently classifies "Rockefeller Republican" as an archaic descriptive phrase? I guess the Rockefeller Republican wing of the GOP vanished with the nomination of Barry Goldwater, a relic of the ages.

Huckabee Manipulation
John McCain puppeteering.

Mitt Romney was ahead on the first ballot cast in W Va., when McCain realized that he was going to lose - he had his delegates vote for Huckabee to deny Romney a victory.

I guess everything is fair in love and war.

McCain won't get my vote in the general election.

I have lost ALL RESPECT for McCain!

I will do everything in my power to deny McCain the presidency.

A vote for Huck.. is a vote for McCain
By the continual sliming of Mitt Romney..these two RINOs have essenially been maneuvered by the LSM into place as their DEFAULT REPUBLICRATS.. so the Libs win either way..

The two parties have not offered us
a candidate we can feel confident about because they are in it for the power. Having duped the American people into thinking only "they" can govern, and having cleverly divided us into liberal vs. conservative ideological extremes, we are left every election with the choice of the lesser of two evils, and the elites want it that way. It is how they keep power to themselves.

The DEM/GOP/MSM propaganda machines promote these lies, and we wind up with partisanship instead of leadership! Our resources are squandered, our military weakened, the future is being mortgaged to the hilt, our sovereignty is being sold out, and our freedoms are under assault.

The only way to get a different result is to actually do something different. We must act this election to send a message to the elites that tells them their performance has been poor and their results unsatifactory. The best way to do that is to deny them the Presidency.

If you are interested in how the elites have perfected their scam, I urge you to visit my website, JOEOLIVAFORPRSIDENT.ORG. It is the one place to learn the truth about the lack of leadership in Washington and how we got to that point. Check it out, why not? The elites have stolen our inheritance! It is our job to reclaim it for the future generations of this great nation, and if we don't do it now, when will we ever? Think about it. Thanks, Joe

When Three Run Againt One What Then?
Just thatI concluded above before the West-Verfinea Vote.

JUST WHATI SAID FROM ABOVE:
IN THE CONVENTION THEIR IS GOING TO BE AND OFFICIAL SHAKE DOWN. CHEATERS ARE LOSERS!

When three Candidates immerge to support each other, split votes, to defeat another candidate of the same party, it begs to ask a very crucial and very important question. Are these running hoping that the most electable one will favor the other two with positions in the Whitehouse of government?

Such seem to be the case for McCain, Huckabee and Giuliani against Mitt Romney. All the negative press of MSM against Mitt, falsely claimed, while praising the three assumed musketeers, "All for one and one for all," as the ones to carry the GOP. Rubbish! If you cannot imagine the collusion and plot, and you vote for either of the three, you disserve what you get. My brother’s personal view, and he, cannot vote, but took a deep interest in the face-off.) Ron Paul, he is a better man than McCain, but is too liberal on social issues, and weak on the war.

So, if you trust MSM to make your choice, you don’t like Mitt. Well, it is just because you never opened his book or gone to his web site to learn just where his value are. Later you will be sorry you did not. "Be Prepared" Scouts Motto Don't vote if you are not prepared. Don't play lottery with your vote, you may as well vote for an old goat.

Barack Obama
I have yet to find anyone that could name one accomplishment for Barack Obama.

I found lots of positive attributes and found that he has a great personality.

Do you vote for attributes and personality???

actually, Jackpine...
Reagan was accused of being "unelectable" by the Rockefeller wing of the GOP back in 1976. The Rockefellers backed Ford... and got Carter, which they deserved. Fortunately for the country, the Goldwater-esque Reagan got the nod in 1980 and redefined the GOP.

Romney is quite different. He governed as a liberal, talked as a liberal, but has since had numerous rhetorical "epiphanies"... coincidentally, since he decided to run for prez. Unfortunately for him, his record as chief executive is significantly out of phase with his current empty rhetoric.

You can believe Mitt-Flop all you like. You have that right. I'm just not falling for it. Neither are most principled conservatives.

And maybe you appreciate that Mitt's flopped to the right... but as disingenuous as he's proven himself to be, what makes you think he'll "stay the course" to the right when the majority of voters in the general are opposed to what he's spewing now? What makes you think he won't have yet another "epiphany"?

Whom do I support? Surely not McCain. I believe McCain has a shameful record as senator. I will never vote for McCain *or* Romney because I don't believe either is conservative.

I support Ron Paul, the only true conservative in the race. Unfortunately for the US and the GOP, the Rockefellers have usurped the Goldwaters... but I'm still firmly in the Goldwater camp.

For me and any other Goldwater Republican, to vote for anyone but Paul would be throwing my vote away.

Accept Reality-Bosnia
Good points. This is always left out of the equation somehow. We'll never know, but all other things being equal, I believe we would be in a very different position today had the war been undertaken by a Dem president; or if the Dems had followed the maxim of politics ending at the water's edge rather than undercutting the war effort the moment they saw the chance to reap some political advantage.

"I have yet to find anyone that could name one accomplishment for Barack Obama."

He has none. He was hand picked by the left for one reason and one reason only, his color. MLK would be proud.

Your statement is no less inane.

Voting for a candidate only because you believe he can win isn't exactly wise either.

What worth is winning at the cost of your soul?

The purpose of Primaries is for the parties to determine their nominee based on what the party faithful hope to accomplish. Going with the flow just because everyone else is doing it, is Liberalism.

primary and caucuses
I think the system shouldl be changed. What’s up with this caucus thing????

I live in Clark County Nevada and if you go look the Caucus that was done in Jan 08; today is Feb 05 and it shows on the Democrat side 98% counted. If you look at the state county by county; there are about 3 or 4 counties still showing less than 100 % counted.

Who Won; how can Obama have the most delegates; when the counting is not complete ????? This needs to be reviewed; don’t ya think.

I definitely think we need to change the system.

The Real Winner

Al
I appreciate your honesty.

I don't agree with much of what you said, but I still appreciate the honesty, and lack of the usual vitriol.

As for Ron Paul, Domestically I think he's great, but his foreign policy, (or lack thereof) is downright frightening.

In today's world we need someone who is going to stand up to the crazies who want to kill us.

What is at stake?
Does anyone remember Gerald Ford? In his first year in office, he gave us John Paul Stevens, one of the most liberal justices on the Supreme Court. 33 years later, Stevens is still on the court. McCain is a Ford with a turbocharger. At least two justices, including Stevens and Ginsburg, are ready for retirement. McCain will surely replace them with liberals.

West Virginia
Dirty politics. Huckabee celebrating a win in WV that was given to him as a gift from McCain. Two slimeballs in the same fungi pod.

If the neo GOP continues in this liberal madness, I will personally stomp for Hillery.

This is the most liberal and corrupt election I've ever seen in my entire life.

for the dems; FL MI and NV
Don't you think ;

If we can't count all the votes (98% counted) then none of them should count and all the delegates should not count either.

That is the way it should be

Jackpine...
Honesty is the only way to go for me. And I don't think I'm usually that vitriolic... but I admittedly do have a tendency to fight fire with fire when I see an inflammatory post.

In any case, my main point on Romney is that I have no idea where he *really* stands on *any* issue because he's "evolved" his stances on controversial issues everytime he's run for a different office with a different voting populace. Abortion is the best example: a pro-life alternative to Chappaquidick Teddy for Senate... then, after he "evolved," became a pro-choice candidate for governor... who once again "evolved" back to pro-life... coincidentally, just prior to when he announced he'd run for the GOP nomination for prez. It's just a little bit fishy. Same with gun control.

So where is Mitt-Flop on abortion or gun control? The data show he's wherever the majority is. And that's how a Romney presidency would look - he'd check the polls before making any decision to see where popular opinion stood at the time, then go with it. And I have a problem with that.

As for foreign policy, all I can say is stop this insane Bush Doctrine which is *creating* more "crazies" who want to kill us. And stop funding endless wars that are literally bankrupting our economy. And they don't "hate us for our freedom." They hate us because we have a military presence in their land. At least that's what the 9/11 Commission Report and CIA said... and I agree with it.

MIKE HUCKABEE ALL THE WAY
Has everyone in America lost their ever-loving minds???????? The only real, truly honest, unpretentious, genuine article is Mike Huckabee. Mitt, the Plastic Mormon talking head, McCain, the arrogant patriot, and I won't even discuss the democratic trash walking around, are all so full of hot air, their talk alone could fuel this country for a year or two. I wish they and the media, including this ridiculous excuse for a conservative outlet would just shrivel up and die.

Vote the Best--- Dr. Ron Paul
I am voting my conscience, and that is for Dr. Ron Paul, no matter how unelectable the Main Stream Media has painted him. We will probably never see a candidate with his honesty and character for the rest of our lives! I am not going to have to explain to my maker why I voted for any of the other evil, lying, flip flopping candidates, Republican or Democrat,in this election race if I cast my vote for Dr. Ron Paul. You should consider this seriously also, unless you want to explain to God why you voted for an evil, dishonest person! God Bless America and Dr. Ron Paul!!

HOW WE GOT HERE
ARE REPUBLICANS SMART ENOUGH TO LEAD?

.....Past performance does not necessarily predict future results but if we look back ...Reagan could not have won, as he did, without a solid Conservative base ...

.....After years of being the minority Party Republicans were given the blueprint for success by Reagan Conservatives ...but was the GOP smart enough to follow the formula of Reagan? ...

.....Apparently not because the first thing that Bush Sr did, after winning with a large plurarity on Reagans coattails, was to begin moving the Party to the left with his "Kinder/Gentler" policies ...this got him and the Republicans ejected from the White House for eight years until Bush Jr sneaked in ...

.....GW was rewarded with majorities in both houses and was in a perfect position to advance Conservative ideals but what happened ...he continued in the steps of his Daddy with "Compassionate/Conservatism" and moved the GOP further to the left ...the Republicans in Congress ...encouraged by the President began to act like Democrats with budget busting spending Bills ...this got them kicked out of office in the 2006 elections ...

......Now the GOP has marginalized the Conservative base that gave us Reagan and are asking us to support a "Maverick" John McCain who has spent his career siding with the Democrats on major issues against his own Party ...

.....Maybe the Republican Party is just not smart enough to lead .....COLOSSUS

baseballdoc
No, they're not smart enough to lead. That walk to the left was a killer. An obvious one after '06. The RNC wasn't smart enough to 'get it'. Now let's look at the base. We have some voters who mention 'the mormon' every time they endorse Huck. Can you think of anything more stupid than bigotry? Then we have the moderate 'change' voters who back McCain. Huh? McCain, in washington for damn near 3 decades, represents 'change'??? The liberal RNC backs McCain (the very ones who took that left leaning walk) in spite of the 06' shout down. Moderates, leaning left, applaud the demise of conservative talk radio and yahoo over the MSM, following their endorsement of a candidate.

I am begginning to believe the GOP is no longer a home for conservatives. The moderate/left kicked us out.

Analysis
Last night on Hannity & Colmes I watched the "analyst" (I forget his name) ask the democrats who liked Obama to name one single accomplishment of their hero.

Out of about 10, not one could list anything whatsoever, except to say "inspiring".

They pretty much all agreed that they were voting for someone who is "electable" in place of anything else.

CC
I saw it too. Voters are down right frightening these days. I remember a time when voting was serious, thoughtful business. This current generation make a mockery of the system. To make such a serious decision, giving someone the highest seat in the free world, is taken so lightly based on 'feelings' or some other foolish sentiment.

Enthusiastic about McCain!
I'm voting for McCain with great enthusiasm. I'm a Republican who thinks this party has lost its way, and voting in the "establishment" candidate (Romney) is stupid. Why would we want to reward the current dysfunctional party with more power? I'm thrilled and vastly entertained that the party apologists (Rush, Prager, et. al.) are screaming so hard. I think the electorate and the party are moving left in a visceral reaction away from the party of GW Bush. (So does that horrible Dick Morris, by the way, a man I think is about the lowest form of life. In this case, I agree with him.) Reasonable moderates love McCain... the far right wingnuts are bawling like babies. For once, I'm not holding my nose!

It's futile to attack Obama's record
I'll just go on the assumption that he has no accomplishments. He's very inspiring. No other candidate has that. They all have fancy resumees. I don't think that matters.
McClellan had credentials. Grant was a drunk.
Bush has a bad record. Obama has no record. Obama disagrees with Bush. Everywhere Obama goes, success follows, erasing the trail of failures his predecessors made.
If he is elected he should choose Hillary as a vice president. He could then proceed to walk into KKK headquarters and challenge them to a duel. He'd be more bulletproof than Cheney or his lawyer. (If they win the duel then Hillary is president).
You attack his record because you are strategicly impaired. Make him show his plan. He's feasting on Neo-Lib dislike of Neo-Cons and there is less visa versa nowadays. He's inspiring them. Democrats are the ones showing up to VOTE. They even have proper identification. They are running out of ballots.
Who can claim to be inspiring in the GOP?

John McCain's Illustrious Record
John McCain has a brilliant record of drafting legislation in the US Senate, look no further than his recent attempt to grant amnesty to illegals. A very wise Republican President once said:

"In the first place, we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faith, becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace, or origin. But this is predicated upon the person’s becoming in every facet an American, and nothing but an American… There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn’t an American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American flag… We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language… and we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people.”—Theodore Roosevelt, 1907. Were have all the good leaders gone?

Paper Ballot
I asked for a paper ballot in my local Illinois polling place. Don't trust touch screens. I am a computer programmer, and who knows where your vote is really tallied, and there is no way to do a recount or paper trail.

Anyway, I was happy to see that the paper ballot still had Fred THompson's delegates as a choice. So I voted for Fred. I think the touch screens had programmed him out.

I was very disappointed on the judicial nominee side of the ballot, as so many of the seats has absolutely no one on the ballot! THe democratic judges were running unopposed.

In the general election, I want every seat up for election to include the following choice:

NONE OF THE ABOVE

If that choice received a majority, then all the names on the ballot are thrown out, and the runners up in the primaries get to have a runoff election, and if none of the above wins again, then the third round choices.

How say ye?

Fred who?
At least Ron Paul still inspires Conservatives despite his unelectability.

Prager's economic bone-headedness
So let me get this straight Dennis. You claimed today that a Democratic party victory would "ruin the economy.....they will raise taxes and raising taxes will ruin the country"..

No kidding? Wow! What a profound declaration. What a earthshaking prediction! I've got news for you Dennis. During the Clinton years, taxes were raised, yep. The economy flourished, the rich didn't run off to South Africa, everything was good. And your brethren on blowhard radio who announced dire prediction....Well the sky didn't fall. The economy blossomed spectacularly, no thanks to all you conservative bone-heads, and your childish fear-mongering.

You might want to review the economy's performance under Democratic regimes vs. Republican regines over the last 100 years, Preager. You might learn something

Never Thought I'd Agree with Prager
I never in a thousand years thought I'd agree with Dennis Prager, but this column makes sense. I'm a staunch Democrat but am having a terrible time making up my mind whether to support Obama or Clinton. John Edwards was my first choice but now I'm faced with a quandary. I love Obama's youth and optimism but admire Clinton's strength and tenacity. I also badly want to support the first serious female candidate for President. My best friend is angry at me for not whole-heartedly supporting Obama, but I don't feel I know him well enough to vote for him. I'm sure many Republicans are also conflicted. Anyway I think the mood of the nation is very bad for the incumbent party and Bush has brought us only war and recession.
