Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

There are conservatives who lie and there are liberals who lie. Neither blue nor red has a monopoly on truth-tellers.

However, unless one denies that there are distinctive values on the right and on the left -- a proposition that no serious liberal or conservative would deny -- how much truth is valued may be different for the right and the left.

In the hierarchy of leftist (as opposed to traditional liberal) values, truth is below other values, such as equality, opposition to war, the promotion of secularism and a number of other highly regarded values on the left.

This does not mean that the number of truth-tellers among individuals on the left is necessarily smaller than the number of individual truth-tellers on the right. It means that truth-telling is not high on the left's list of values.

Since this is, obviously, a generalization, and a negative one at that, anyone who makes this generalization is obligated to provide arguments and examples.

The first example is what is known as political correctness. Leftist denial of what is true is so widespread that we have a term for it, political correctness. There is no comparable right-wing political correctness, i.e., denying truths so as not to offend right-wing values or certain groups.

For example, among many on the left, especially academics, it has been almost impossible for decades to tell the truth about the innate differences between men and women because of the leftist dogma of innate similarities between the sexes. So deep is the left's hostility to truth regarding the sexes that a president of Harvard University was forced from office after suggesting that men's and women's brains process math and some science differently.

Similarly, many leftist professors at Duke University used the false rape charges against three white lacrosse players to reinforce the left-wing belief (itself not true) that America is racist. The truth was not nearly as important to them as proving how racist whites are.

Textbooks. A prime example of the left's view of truth is its changing the goal of high school American history textbooks from telling truth to promoting self-esteem among minority and female students by depicting more women and more non-whites in American history textbooks.

"Bush is a liar." Currently, the most widely repeated lie of the left is that President George W. Bush lied about Saddam Hussein having weapons of mass destruction. It is repeated so often ("Bush lied, people died") that many Americans now believe this. But it is not true. There were valid reasons for anyone to believe that Saddam Hussein had WMD. Saddam had used them in the past; he refused to allow unfettered inspections; he was the major foreign sponsor of Palestinian terror; and most important, virtually all Western intelligence agencies believed Saddam had WMD.

Nor did President Bush lie, as the left frequently charges, about Saddam seeking uranium in the African nation of Niger. The president said in his 2003 State of the Union address that "The British Government has learned that Saddam Hussein recently sought significant quantities of uranium from Africa." That was exactly what British intelligence reported, and the British intelligence is now widely believed to have been accurate. It is a left-wing lie that President Bush lied when he spoke those now famous 16 words.

Callling liberals "unpatriotic." Another lie of the left is that Republicans and conservatives regularly label opponents of the war in Iraq "unpatriotic." Thus, during the CNN/YouTube debate, Sen. Hillary Clinton claimed that "I asked the Pentagon a simple question: 'Have you prepared for withdrawing our troops?' In response, I got a letter accusing me of being unpatriotic." That is -- and this is not said easily -- a lie. Anyone who reads the Defense Department response to Sen. Clinton will see that what she claims is entirely untrue. Her patriotism, or lack of it, was not even hinted at. Moreover, it is rare almost to the point of nonexistent for mainstream Republicans or conservatives to call any liberal critic of the Bush administration "unpatriotic."

The homeless, heterosexual AIDS and rape. For years, mainstream liberal news media purveyed false information supplied by Mitch Snyder, the major liberal activist on behalf of the homeless. Likewise, we were told by gay and AIDS activist groups that AIDS "doesn't discriminate," meaning that heterosexuals in America were as likely to contract the HIV virus as homosexuals. It was never true in America (Africa may be another story for other reasons). Feminist groups have offered statistics on rape and sexual violence that are patently false.

Few liberal activist groups tell the truth. Not because their members are liars -- in private life they may well be as honest as anyone else -- but because whatever the left advocates it deems more important than truth.

This does not mean the right is always honest. For example, conservatives who say that "pornography causes rape" are doing what the left does -- putting their agenda, in this case a loathing of pornography, above truth-telling. I have seen no credible statistics linking the proliferation of pornography with increased rape.

But when the left ceaselessly repeats the mantra "Bush lied," it may simply be projecting onto George W. Bush what comes quite naturally to the left -- when it offers false Iraqi death statistics, false homeless data, false rape statistics, false secondhand smoke statistics, false claims about the percentage of gays in the population, and false claims of just about everything else the left cares about.

Good article. I would have used more broad ideoligical examples to prove the point rather than bringing up isolated incidents, such as the Duke case...but, point taken.

If we could just purge political whores from the Republican Party, we just might beat the press, and get back to philosophy rather than tabloid politics.

lies galore

Bush didn't lie about WMD, mushroom clouds, drones that would fly across the ocean to drop nuclear bombs? He just happened to be wrong, to believe chalibi, and fake Italian forgeries.

"On October 7, 2002, President Bush contributed what was surely the weirdest of his "homicidal-dictator-with-WMDs" rationales for a war with Iraq. In a speech in Cincinnati, he first noted that "Saddam Hussein is a homicidal dictator who is addicted to weapons of mass destruction" and then warned that "Iraq has a growing fleet of manned and unmanned aerial vehicles that could be used to disperse chemical and biological weapons across broad areas. We're concerned that Iraq is exploring ways of using these [unmanned aerial vehicles] for missions targeting the United States."

Folks, are we really going to let him tell us that Iran is the new great evil we have to have war with?

Bait and switch
Taft has just picked one incident and made the fallacy "hasty generalization" that all Bush policies are suspect because of the assumption that his first premise is true. First, Taft does not offer any evidence to show that the statement by Bush was false. Unlike Prager, he offers no corroborating evidence whatsoever to prove that his assertion is true. He only assumes that Bush is a liar. The ensuing fallacy, non sequitur (does not follow) is then offered. Based on an unproven premise, he concludes that Bush is not to be trusted. Critique is good, and Prager has offered an even-handed critique of The Left's tendency to under-value truth. If Mr. Taft wants to join the discussion, we all are awaiting a fair, even-handed response. Otherwise, he has become a poster child to prove Prager's premise.

irony
Praeger nails it as always. I had to laugh at " Leftist denial of what is true is so widespread that we have a term for it, political correctness." I would simply add that in so doing (falling prey to political correctness) the left emasculates science, an irony in light of the fact that they are always accusing the right of denying science.

Bush lies.....
kill.

Aside from the fact that Prager's column makes NO sense, it is always amazing when a rightwing mouthpiece prattles on about the subject of "lies" in the political arena, as though the weight of right and left lies are somehow similar in scope.

Naw, Denny - don't go there.

The spectacular amount of lying going down in the GOP is nothing short of breathtaking. Lying has been honed by the GOP to an art - to the point where they don't even TRY to cover up the deception anymore.

Not only from Bush, Cheney, Rice and Rumsfeld, but look at lesser liars: Larry the toe tapper, Limbaugh the doctor-shopper, O'Reilly the phone sex creep (to name a few of the ickier ones)

jan
Did you know that the "politically correct" push for saying "Happy Holidays" to accommodate most everyone at Christmastime was started in the 90's by Newt Gingrich's Republican controlled Congress? Now THAT'S irony, given the yearly vapors the rightwing displays come November, at Bill O'Reilly's behest.

talibanman
another typical lib. You have been called out so often for your distortions it is surprising you still bother to show up. But other than shilling for moveon I guess you really serve no purpose other than present yourself as an object ofg ridicule. As for lies, your current heroes, the clinton's are the true masters of that particular form of communication. How many times have we heard from the two smartest people in the universe, they don't recal, can't remember or have no knowledge of events they were intinately involved with. Missus clinton problems however that unlike bubba she is a particularly poor liar.

Whatever happened to Scalping?
Beheadings are a weak Muslim tactic of instilling fear into a normally civilized populace.
Terrorists should be scalped in America.

Whatever happened to Scalping?
How much money can one hope to gain from beheading Americans.
How much money would be made from scalping terrorists?

Does the left value truth?
No.

The left values taking your money and using it in ways that make them feel better about themselves no matter how terrible the outcome.

The left values living under the blanket of freedom that better men and women have provided them. The left values taking the credit for providing the blanket while holding those who actually did in contempt.

The left values attacking the very institutions that make America great, and they do it under the cloak of compassion (it's for the children).

The current Republican administration is not perfect, nowhere near. However, for liberals to think they have the country behind them will prove foolhardy next election day. If not, we're in trouble because whlie liberals have more liberal countries to relocate to. Freedom loving, self reliant Americans do not.

Pray for America.

Dennis Prager- Uh...what is "NO", Dennis

Dennis Prager writes: "Does the Left Value Truth?"

The Left values 'truth' only insofar as it is something against which they can define themselves. In that sense the truth is of 'value' to them, as a means to an end (i.e., defining themselves in opposition to it), but they do not value the truth for itself or aspire towards it.

"for that they exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshipped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen." (Romans 1:25)

Does the Left value the truth?
Having grown up around Lefties, one of the things I remember is their strange relationship to the truth. I found that they talked a lot about the truth, but didn't respect it.

Since the goal of the Left is to deconstruct our culture, they spent enormous amounts of time discussing how the things we know are not really true after all. They go on to tear down every hero we hold dear in the Western world.

The thing that is so weird about this practice is that they seem so proud of themselves, like a toddler that has scribbled on the wall.

Oh for goodness sakes...
Dennis Prager, can you not find anything more substantive to write about in 2007 then this armchair mumbo jumbo??

Truth?
You meant to say your "version" of the truth, right Dennis?

Both parties do not have a monopoly on truth.

The left thinks that "gorebal warming" is man made with no evidence to show.

The right think that god exists with no evidence to show.

Let's not throw stones at glass houses Mr. Prager, least of all, you.

Good article Mr. Prager
Even as the posters at TH have provided links, and unfortunately copied excerpts from documents, to the left wing trolls who come here they still deny the truth. Indeed, some of them are professional truth deniers. The neo-communist’s most ardent belief is that there is no lie that can not be made to be truth, no matter how outrageous the lie is. How do you make an outrageous lie the truth? Why you repeat it endlessly via your minions on the Internet until some cretin who graduated with a degree in journalism is hoodwinked into picking up on it. Once any journalist posts the story, even if all the journalist does is forward it as "xx is saying" it begins to take on a life of it’s own. After a few hundred repeats from the liberal journalists it then becomes "common knowledge" no matter that nobody of any credibility has ever done an investigation of the story at all. Once it has become "common knowledge" nothing can dislodge it. Things that if you just came out an said it aloud in the beginning would make you think the person saying it was insane get repeated and believed. Things like the WTC truther idiocy.

pt 2
How is it possible that lies can be spread so easily? Once again we can blame the liberal court. They have basically given the newspapers unlimited ability to spread lies and libel without fear of retribution. They have made it almost impossible to sue a newspaper without proving "absence of malice". In other words you have to prove that the newspaper editors or reporter’s State of mind. It isn’t like a hate crime though. The courts assume ANY white on black crime is a hate crime from the beginning and the defendant must prove it isn’t. With the newspaper stories you have to prove that they were thinking evil thoughts from the beginning. So, since dueling was outlawed many years ago, and the court ruled that you can’t sue, there is no check left for the newspapers and their stepchild, network news.

As one of my favorite court journalists used to say "bad cases bring bad law". This ridiculous ruling came from a civil rights case from 1964 in Alabama in which a police commissioner sued the NY Times over a a few incorrect items in a story it posted. The Supreme Court only had outcome in mind and had no concern for what their ruling did to the law.

The Left denies objective truth exists
All the Lefties I know routinely deny that objective truth exists or is even "knowable" by us flawed human beings. Since everyone sees life through his or her own "prism" or has his or her own agenda, desires, etc., there can never be any agreement, in the Leftie's mind, about objective reality.

Leftism is nothing more than a rigid set of dogma. I can't distance myself from such people fast enough.

come on dennis
come on dennis are you really trying to say that a majority of americans believe bush lied because of a lie? how much evidence will it take for you to accept the fact that he did lie ... i find your denial to be astounding.

and your idiotic claim that america is not racist leaves me speechless. why just the behavior of the gop alone when it comes to vote caging belies this assertion. i could go into many many more examples of institutionalized racism but why bother when you are so hung up on the duke case.

dennis you really are incapable of intellectual honesty as demonstrated by this column ... it is a real shame, because some people on the right have this capability. i guess ideologues are hard wired differently ... hey dennis.

Violence on Superbowl Sunday, Anyone?
It's like Dan Rather running with dubious documents by a known Bush-hater and -attacker: the ends justify so much.

Objective reality is denied by most college professors, except in the hard sciences, it was my unfortunate experience to learn.

The reference to the heading is the totally discredited claim that the media made love to in the early 1990s. Christina Hoff Summers made mincemeat of it back then.

But, as Mr. Prager correctly says, "Being a liberal means never having to say one is sorry." Facts be damned.

swiftboat "lies"
There are frequent statements in the press that the Swiftboat veterans lied about John Kerry, but those who accuse them of lying do not point out what the veterans said that is not true. This bothers me. If they want the public to know the truth, they should point out which statements are false and put forward their evidence, as the veterans have. Since they fail to do that, I have to assume that the Swiftboat veterans were telling the truth. Unfortunately, many people believe the lie if it is repeated often enough, so smears against the veterans and smears against other good people, such as judicial nominees, often are successful in the political arena. The people need to demand the facts and the evidence.

Resa
You have picked a good example to evaluate truth vs lies. There are 2 stories concerning Kerry's VN service. He claims he was a hero while there, and then after his service gave a version of events there to congress. The SBVs claim his account of his tour was/is false, and so was his stestimony to congress. Who to believe? Check the numbers is a start. Kerry never had more than a couple vets from over there support him. The vets who denounced him outnumbered his supporters even from his own crew. But numbers aren't everything. The SBVs claimed his purple heart claims were bogus. It seems to me this would be easy to refute. 3 wounds in combat, come forward medics, doctors, crewmembers. Was he always alone when wounded? Or was he just alone when submitting the paperwork? There have been claims his separation from the Navy was a bit hinky. Trot out your records, John. I carried around my little Honorable Discharge notification in my wallet for years as ID, not having a drivers license while in school on the GI bill. Show us the paper. Since the claims against him are many and if false, quite easily refutable, i conclude, since they are not refuted, they are indeed true. Those millions who voted for him either believed him, had no wish to investigate, or didn't care. The whole business indicts the mindset and priorities of the lefties. The Duke 3, another case of charges and counter charges. Where was the regard for truth from the left? Apologies for running off half-cocked? Folks who gave even lip service to truth were virtually non-existant. Apparently, everyone of those 80 odd professors was perfectly content with their premature condemnation based on lies. Prager is exactly right. Many lefties do have a positive regard for the truth -- its just that other things are more important.

The Left
values truth about as much as Rosie likes going on a diet!

They're STILL covering for their hero Bubba and working to revise the many scandals of Team HillBill(y) so that Der Fuerher Frau Hitlery can run amok.

Evidently she missed a few things the last time she looted and pillaged the WH.

BTW all, check my blog for Part Two on raving greenie libdolts and two other stories on how libs stifle freedom of speech.

Bama...
...You're a liar.

I rest my case.

If you don't remember, is it a lie?
Robert, talisman, both of you don't remember the USS Cole, the Marine Barracks in Lebanon, and that Sadaam paid the families of the bombers? These are examples of Sadaam's terrorist policies. And the fact that he pretended to have and would not account for, WMD makes the whole story come together.

Dennis is right. There are NO facts above to refute him. Liberals hold their screed above the truth.

The Big Lie
Great article, Dennis. Of course the Left, as a political movement, has no compunctions about not telling the truth. The "new" Left (not really so new, but newer than what Dennis refers to as "traditional" liberalism) is fascistic -- suppressing free speech (in the name of so-called "political correctness,") attempting to control every aspect of people's private lives, in the name of "health" or "environment," or whatever else has become a substitute for religion, and most of all, by demonizing certain groups of people -- and most especially Americans. And so, just as fascists sixty odd years ago used the "Big Lie" to demonize Jews, gypsies, and other "non-aryans," the Left also demonizes particular target groups, most especially Americans, as racist, sexist, materialistic, whatever. (If one has had, as I have, the opportunity to live in those countries that buy into the "Big Lie," -- and almost any country in western Europe fits into that category -- one can see just how non-racist Americans are by comparison.)

Lying has become so much an accepted part of the Left's modus operandi, that Dan Rather must have been shocked that he was actually "punished" for engaging in it. One has only to look at the many corrections the New York Times has been forced to issue -- for it's blatant "mis-statements" over the years, reflecting the far Left agenda of publisher Salzburger. But perhaps there is a silver lining -- the stock price of the New York Times has never been lower, and CBS's ratings are certainly nothing to brag about either. So perhaps, even on a subliminal level, people are getting sick of the "raging lunacy" of a movement whose primary agenda is hatefulness and destruction.

can you be a bit more detailed
gee ... i was called a liar ... with no proof or details given. once again i find myself almost speechless with the intellectual acumen of a right wing foamer.

as to the dkos conversation, i would like to take it further ... without a doubt dkos is a fine example of a blog that actually delves into issues albeit with a left wing perspective. it is worth reading becuase the community is engaged and on the cutting edge of the body politic. it should also be noted, many left wing blogs aspire to the same standards while i fear the right doesnt have the same qualities. i suspect right blogs are much more willing to bow to the powers that be and/or the the tent is much smaller.

as to lying again and the swift boaters ... they are a perfect example of how the right wing is willing to lie. oh well, i dare not say too much more or nam 65-66 will surely call me a liar again. LMAO

No more patience
The Neo communists (a great truism) care only about winning to support their ideological agenda. Unfortunately, many of the baby neo comms here aren't even smart enough to see their own indoctrination seeping into their vitriol laced propaganda. The Right cares about and debates right and wrong. That's why conservative candidates get beaten up by the base. Progressive Socialists get a free pass from their base unless they support our military. I'm no longer interested in engaging the idiotic sophmoric simpletons who repeat the lies of the Left with no logic or reason to support them. Because, "they KNOW they're right." And you can't argue with an idiot.

Vic, see coultergeist's..."why don't ...
It is a strange comment on the human intellect, if you consider their antics sincere. This person makes their point all from kos articles that quote from huffington articles that quote from democrats underground that quote from... I lost track of the points they were spinning.

Anyway this person makes your point, but even more interesting, why do we care. We all know they are lying, even they do. Prager's point is trying to discover "why" they lie. It either is Savages point that it is a disease, Pragers that it's a value inversion of their character, maybe it's a strange perversion like masochism that a sound mind just dosn't get, or mine...that they must be being paid to lie nobody is just that evil.

It's simple, really
There is a simple explanation for why so many on the left don't value truth: how many of them have any kind of real belief in the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob? Extremely few that I've ever met. When you don't believe in an eternal judgment or anything beyond this earth, all that matters is the here and now and whatever advances your interest at the moment. What constraint do people who DO believe in the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob have to be truthful? Well, for one, the 9th Commandment (Ex. 20:16), and for another, the warning of Rev. 21:8 that liars will suffer eternal damnation. The thing that has really changed in our society in the last 40 years is how so many on the left can lie totally unashamedly - and even when their lies are exposed, they seem to feel no dishonor or remorse or twinge of conscience. This trend became institutionalized with the presidency of Bill Clinton. I'm sure any leftists who read this will riposte with Bush's supposed lies, but I defy any left-winger who subsequently posts to this article in response to my post to answer these questions: do you believe Bill Clinton's word can be taken at face value? And if so, on what is that belief based? And screaming about Bush's alleged lies doesn't answer my questions, my leftist friends. Oh, by the way, leftists, to the best of my knowledge, Clinton has never admitted lying about the things we all know he lied about as President, so if you parrot the bumper-sticker slogan "At least no one died when Clinton lied", you WOULD be calling Clinton a liar.

they don't BELIEVE in objective truth
TTSSYF at 4:00 AM hit it on the head.

I think they would value it, if they believed there WAS such a thing as objective truth. Truth is a human construct to them, and therefore differs from person to person, not objective reality to which we should conform our minds. Witness how often they say "that's your truth" or "that's my truth" not THE truth.

Everything else a far left liberal believes flows directly from this fact.

Liar Liar
Let's take the biggest liar of them all...Clinton and look at his history. Research the amount of unnecessary conflicts and deaths that he caused (Somolia, Kosovo, etc...) He even bombed an asprin factory in Africa to try to take the attention off himself the day he was put on trial, and of course we know who lied there. Lying about 'just a BJ' is still lying not to mention that in turn he committed adultery and has no family values of his own. If you want to read a good book by somebody with an unbiased approach to Clinton you can read "Dereliction of Duty" (Patterson). If you want to talk about other main liars, look no further than his vice president Al 'I invented the internet and we are causing global warming' Gore. If you want to read another good book you can check out "The Politically Incorrect Guide to Global Warming and Environmentalism" (Horner). Of course it doesn't help if most of main stream media covers up for these people either, but that is a whole other subject.

Jessica Lynch....
...anyone?

Agenda trumps truth
The furtherance of the agenda always trumps the truth for liberals. Anybody who can read or can hear knows this.

When is the last time you heard a liberal admit that forced busing didn't improve minority performance in public schools?

Or that more blacks were entering the middle class at a faster rate before The Great Society than were entering it after The Great Society?

Or that concealed carry laws have NEVER turned a road rage incident or sporting event into the streets to Tombstone, as they alway predict when trying to fight the passage of CCW legislation?

It was only recently we discovered that scientists at NASA purposefully misrepresented data to make it look like 1998 was the hotest year on record, when it was in fact 1934.

One need look no further than the environmentalist movement to see that agenda ALWAYS trumps truth for the left. All the predictions of global cooling, mass starvation deaths, world wars and the looming scarcity of raw materials people like Paul Ehrlich made in the 1970s THAT NEVER CAME TRUE...are ample examples of this.

Ah, but maybe they were just "wrong", huh? Liberals get to be "wrong". Conservatives only get to "lie".

censored

Are there any other people serving in the military that you think have "betrayed" your endeared "Move-On" organization?

Or are all people putting their lives on the line to provide us the freedoms we have "liars" as well?

Bush lied or Robert lied...
Robert writes: "Bush lied or exaggerated or whatever...
about how much of a threat Saddams maybe WMD was to the US...go read the PHilly speech...it is "Saddam is coming after us"..."

Are you attempting to make Bush appear as low as FDR who cost America hundreds of thousands of lives, not to defend America but in reality to defend social fascist communist Russsia from social fascist nazi Germany. While FDR claimed that we were defending Europe, he proved himself a liar by allowing Russia to enslave various European nations into communism - the end results were that far more civilians were murdered by Russia than were murdered by Germany.

The left has different motivations ...

From what I have observed, a liberal is focused only on what they want to change in stark contrast to a conservative that wants to preserve a specific political/social model for society.

A liberal's thought is very disjointed and is not constrained by any interconnectivity between any concepts. This why liberals appear emotional and angry to a destructive level. A conservative grasps this interconnectivity so there is a fear that chaning something will break something else as a unintended result. This is why conservatives appear cold and rigid...almost anti-emotional.

For example, as a result the traditional American family has been nearly completely destroyed by liberal policies which undermines society. The left actually hates the traditional American family and desires to inflict the government as a replacement. People that want a traditional America family are forced to home school and remove the television to protect thier children from the "deconstructionist" liberal forces in society today.

What Dennis Prager is suggesting can be taken much further to better explain the gulf that now divides America.

Moral relativism
Secular humanism is based on the pillar of moral relativism which states that right and wrong do not exist, that morality is etched in the water of a continuous spectrum of gray. In the real world, truth on the other hand is a binary concept. Under a clearly defined set of circumstances, a proposition is either true or false. There is no middle ground. To libs, the idea that any of their propositions must be in congruence with empirical fact in order to be considered to be true is entirely incomprehensible. It's like a mom who tells the kids "because I said so", or the Dope from Hope, whose idea of truth was whatever bs he laid on them off the top of his head. The way libs believe their own fantasies remids me that doge eat their own sh*t.

A leftist conspiracy against Bush..
About the only truthful point Prager makes is that Liberals and Conservatives both lie. That's it! Whether or not it was George Bush who lied about an intelligence report or anything else - Bush is the Commander and Chief, the President and number one advocate for making the case to invade Iraq and overthrow Sadamm. It was George Bush who decided to single out North Korea and Iran, calling them members of the Axis of Evil. My opinion, engaging these two countries to prevent hostilities is a far better strategy than calling them names and insulting them. Bush first made the case to invade Iraq based on WMD, then it changed to Sadamm is committing genocide, then to establish a free democracy in Iraq. Which is Bush? You cannot keep changing your reason for invasion every time a previous reason proves untrue.
Prager, if you are going to call the Liberals out, you better offer more than just pornography to cast a even balance of blame. Conservatives right winger extremist were so intent on making the case to invade Iraq, overthrow Sadamm, and then establish a center for no bid contracts for special interest groups to make boat loads of money off of. This war is and will always be about the Conservatives wanting to get a major control of power in oil rich Middle East. Republicans can spin it any way they want, and Democrats can sit there with their tails between their legs and not say anything, but this war is a war of choice, and a power struggle for oil wealth. Why have so many coutries that are associated with the UN refused to play apart in this war? The major players in the UN, Russia, France, Germany, China, and others who could of made a dramatic impact in our success there have refused to do anything. Why is that? Why has the UN advocated that our place in IRraq is not helpful to the region? Did all these other nations see through the lies and deception that Bush and his conservative cronies were attempting to accomplish?

equality
Dennis Prager said: "In the hierarchy of leftist values, truth is below other values, such as equality ..."

The lefties don't care about equality either. We used to think they were in favor of raising low wages. But their immigration policy has brought low wages even lower. It doesn't matter to them, though. They will keep portraying themselves as protectors of the poor.

Dennis Prager said: "In the hierarchy of leftist values, truth is below other values, such as equality ..."

just one question
If many of you on the left do not believe in the God of the Bible, what is it that keeps you from lying? What force keeps your behavior in check? I sincerely would like an answer.

As Standshisground mentioned, those on the right are restrained by the knowledge that there is a God who has something to say about lying. Since we are all sinners, it is unlikely that we would never lie. However, true Christians will feel the conviction of the Holy Spirit when they lie. For this reason I believe that those on the left will lie, lie more often and lie about bigger things because they have nothing to restrain them.

I am currently teaching a Worldview and an American History class for high schoolers. It is frightening to see how far we are slipping toward socialism, with the end result being that we won't have the will to resist communism. That is the great strategy of communism--destroy a country from within.

Tom's twisted conspiracy ...

So Tom ... are you suggesting that Bush bombed the twin towers to get oil and government contracts ??

You make no mention of 911 as if id doesn't exist.

Please explain.

My fellow Conservatives....
who I like and admire (RETSSGT, GunnyG, SSAFU7392, NAM65-66, and so many others at TH), we are not going to change the Liberals' minds. You have to have a mind for it to be changed.

In my satire on Dan Rather I think I stated the whole problem with the Liberal mindset: "Its not the facts, its the seriousness of the accusations". (Punch on my name to see it, I know another shameless plug!) All the Left understands and believes is contained in that statement. It means emotions, Liberal core values, and "feel good" OUT-WEIGH everything.

By the way, this will be my last post till late this evening. I am going to a meeting concerning the installation/startup of a broadband wireless internet in the Miss. Delta.

See everyone later.

Mr. Prager resists to learning
Coal in my basement starts sprouting (I translate a Polish saying) every time when the terms “liberal” or “left” and “conservatives” or “right” are used like they mean something. They are so abused that they become meaningless. One can even argue, as I tried, that they mean the same, http://www.henrykkowalczyk.com/freedom_lost.htm .

Therefore, Mr. Prager, please work a little harder and arrive with new lines.

BTW, it is my second reminder, you show resistance to learning.

Unintentionally Hilarious
"Liberals Lie and Conservatives Lie... but let's just stick to liberals, shall we?" What rubbish.

Let's see... where to start... which 'side' consistently opposes the findings of EMPIRICAL SCIENCE? That would be conservatives (evolution, climate change, you name it!)

Larry Summers did NOT say what you quote him as saying. He pointing to subtle differences in the statistical distributions ("tail properties") of certain abilities, NOT that men's and women's brains "process" anything differently?

One can go on and on. But this is just so silly, it's hard even to take it seriously.

Dennis Prager
This article is beneath your dignity. You assert that the left does not value the truth. However the issues you insist are examples are issues which are still under debate. Issues for which research is ever changing our understanding.

The right can go thru the world assuming that questions on human nature are shut and closed... But in fact meaningful quantitative analyses of human nature is in its infancy.

Scientific rigor has barley begun to be applied to the discipline. From sociology to economics, a mystical a priori approach is only now beginning to be replaced by a full-fledged empirical scientific analyses.

What is truly disturbing is the rights fear or the possible outcomes of this enlightenment. And there insistence on regression to dark ages religious mysticism as an antidote to the failure of mathematical mysticism.

Censored -- get your facts straight
Here is the quote from the Larry King show:

"During my service in the United States Congress, I took the initiative in creating the Internet."

But, don't take my word for it. Look up the transcript yourself --> http://tinyurl.com/2lxh

The left's embrace of "gay" thought ...

Another excellent example on the difference in thought between liberals and conservatives is the reaction to the term "gay". If one asks a youth the definition of "gay", the response is that "gay" means perverted, twisted, or deception. In contrast an older person sees "gay" meaning happy or joyful. This is the effect of liberal change upon society.

For a conservative, the rise of feminism in western society is now leading "gay marriage" and the continued deconstructionism of the entire institution of marriage to be replaced by the nanny state.

Excellent! We know who the useless idiot

are... It's pretty obvious... no, it's very obvious!

And the answer to Prager's question, "Does the Left Value Truth?" in a word is "NO!"

The left also doesn't value freedom of speech if it's not in their favor... ie: "Clinton Kills Negative GQ Story."

What the left DOES care about is power, being in the WH, and controlling our lives. And at least where the clintons are concerned, they'll go to any.. ANY... measure to get and retain that power. How about the clinton list of 45?

The Screaming Sponge
__Say it LOUD, Say it Often, the sponges will absorb the liquid. Liberal legislation has created a gigantic society of sponges in America. They do not see themselves has sponges, because, over the years, it has become the norm. From birth, to death, there is a government program sponge to meet societies needs. With that, has developed the ability to tell little white lies, political correctness. Enforcement measures, included in this liberal legislation, are seldom enforced, and greatly rely on the individual receiving benefit to be truthful. A very speculative process, when dealing with humans who's main agenda in life is prosperity. America now finds itself with huge government bureaucracies, and attached private companies, employing millions of people. Their job security, and individual prosperity, relies on them truthfully tending to business. Again, I say, this has been a very, very, speculative process when dealing with individuals without checks, and balances, in place. This has created a society of individuals absorbing all they can, by any means possible. A little lie here, and a little lie there, becomes the norm, and is accepted has just doing lifes business. The people this liberal speculation has really hurt, are those in our society that have been truthful to America, and Americans. It is sad to see, and hear, the sponges, but our society is now at a point to wringe them out. Lies have proven to be an instrument of death, to this Republic, and our Constitutional law.

Right honour, Robert!!
Can you believe these TH'rs? As if they really KNOW the truth! They probably think it was wrong to jeer the troops when they came home from Viet Nam... and that it was wrong to ask "why do they hate us" after the attacks on 911... and they CONSTANTLY make fun of Al Gore and Bill Clinton; two men who will go down in history (well, Bill, already "went down", but that's another issue)!!

momof5girls - Just one question
Remember, many on the left DO believe in a "God of the Bible". And, those who don't, like myself, keep our behavior "in check" by having a conscience. One can have ethical and moral principles without having to believe in a "God of the Bible." I DO believe in God; I just don't think that any one religion can call him theirs alone. I think God can touch anyone regardless of his or her religious affiliation. God is everywhere, not just in Christian churches. But, even some atheists I've known have a moral compass far superior to SOME Christians I've known. And, it can go the other way too, of course, depending on the individual. I think it's sad to paint groups (liberals, conservatives, etc.) with such a broad, condemning brush. We are INDIVIDUALS, some with moral ethics and some with not - and not necessarily dependant upon one's religion. People lie. Some who lie are Christians and some are not. Some are liberals and some are conservatives. Lumping people into groups to be "better" than they are isn't productive and really doesn't help in earnest and intelligent discourse.

EMPIRICAL SCIENCE?

I am waiting for you to supply something that EMPIRICAL SCIENCE has PROVEN....it is certainly NOT EVOLUTION AND CLIMATE CHANGE! Stick to scientific subjects such as gravity, etc.

I also suspect strongly that a dis-belief of these two examples is NOT limited to Conservatives.
