Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

One repeatedly hears that some conservatives and Republicans will either vote Democrat or not vote at all -- out of anger at the Republican Party.

According to these Republican holdouts, the Republicans have governed as Democrats-lite by greatly increasing government spending and doing little about illegal immigration. Accordingly, it is better to have liberal government under liberals than liberal government under Republicans, and the Republicans need to be taught a lesson so that in the future they will govern as authentic Republicans.

Conservatives should file this thinking under the heading "Cathartic," but not under "Smart."

One of the great realizations one comes to as the years pass is how small a role reason plays in most people's decisions. From choosing products based on their packaging to deciding how to vote, passion and emotion usually eclipse reason.

Any Republican, let alone conservative, who votes Democrat or stays home out of pique with the Republican Congress or the president has chosen emotion over reason.

Have the Bush administration and Republican Congress spent too much money? Of course. And it really is quite annoying. Nothing unites conservative and moderate Republicans as does opposition to big government.

So it is not surprising that so many Republicans are furious at the increases in government spending, such as the staggeringly expensive Medicare prescription drug plan.

Add to this the fury of the conservative base of the Republican Party at the administration's apparent apathy toward illegal "immigration," and you have an Election Day problem.

Now, regarding spending, I share Republicans' anger. Republicans who don't control government spending do far more harm than Democrats who don't. Why? Because when the smaller-government party expands government, those who believe in smaller government have nowhere to turn.

Nevertheless, if it were not for the Bush administration, we never would have gotten the substantial tax cuts that have led to such a robust economy (especially impressive in light of the costs of the war in Iraq and of Katrina).

As for illegal immigration, here, too, I identify with those who are frustrated that Republicans have not done more while in control of both the executive and legislative branches of government. But at least President Bush has signed a bill authorizing the building of a 700-mile fence along the U.S.-Mexico border. No Democratic president would do that. If you care about reducing illegal immigration, isn't that reason enough to prevent the Democrats from gaining power?

And what about the single most important reason to elect Republicans -- the appointment of judges, especially justices to the Supreme Court? What sort of reasoning would lead a conservative to conclude that it is more important to express anger at Republicans than to prevent Democrats from appointing Supreme Court justices and other judges?

And taxes -- what rational conservative would prefer tax increases, one of the major goals of the Democratic Party?

As regards national security, what sort of Republicans are so angry at the Bush administration and/or the Republican Congress that they would want to replace the party that made the Patriot Act and NSA wiretapping possible with the party that opposes the Patriot Act and NSA wiretapping? And doesn't the Bush administration deserve credit for the absence of a single terrorist attack on American soil since 9/11?

How about Social Security? Why would a rational Republican want to reward the party that opposed any attempt to fix a system that will fail the next generation of Americans -- and hurt the Republican president who bravely, if ultimately futilely, spent political capital trying to fix it?

And what about tort reform? Republicans have begun reducing abuses of the legal system by passing some tort reform legislation. With Democrats in power, such achievements will be reversed, and trial lawyers and legislators will be empowered to continue to damage this country through law. That is, after all, why trial lawyers are among the biggest donors to the Democratic Party.

Finally, please remember that it was disaffected Republicans who voted for Ross Perot who helped elect Bill Clinton president, and it was disaffected Democrats who voted for Ralph Nader who helped elect George W. Bush president. Unless you run yourself, dear annoyed Republican, you will never find an ideal candidate. Compared to you and your conservative principles, real-life Republicans are indeed a failure. But compared to real-life Democrats, they are almost giants.

Vote out of anger, and you'll either vote Democrat or stay home. Vote out of reason, and you'll vote Republican. Please choose reason. If you don't like the Republican candidate, the place to get rid of him is in the primary, not the general election. The general election is not between good Republicans and irresponsible Republicans; it's between Republicans and Democrats.

I simply have to wonder
about this so called disaffection with the Republican Party.

Not that I disagree with the fact that many conservative minded people ARE not thrilled with the course of government that has taken place under the Republicans the last 10+ years. Surely the anger is a felt by many conservatives, and justly so.

As is less then enthusiastic support of "Comprehensive Immigration", the Medicare debacle, and yes, the list is getting rather long.

But I can't for the life of me accept that there will actually be any improvement in the size or direction of government should the Democrats not only gain control of the Congress but, God forbid, the White House also.

So, in my opinion, unless you are a lefty liberal, vote Republican.

And if you are truly fed up with the quality of candidates that the Republican Party presents every couple of years, don't wait until it's time for a general election. Get involved NOW, at your States local level.

Otherwise, all of those of us who consider ourselves conservative will be left to do little more then hold our noses and vote for someone JUST because they have an "R" after their name.

Again.

And that would be pretty stupid.

Again.

Vote
Nothing is perfect, but a "non vote" is a vote for the democrats and terrorists.

VOTE REPUBLICAN
and get used and abused.

Again.

The dems may not have any good ideas, but one thing history teaches us is that when the branches are divided, less money gets spent and the budget is more often balanced.
It would be a good idea for us all to get rid of the earmarks.

Super90
"The dems may not have any good ideas", so vote for them and their BAD ideas that they have already told you about. Raise taxes. Cut and Run in Iraq. Same-sex marriage. Abortion through the NINTH month. Judicial activision. Socialist/Communist programs. Remove God from NOT just the public square, but from America like the Communists in Russia tried to do. Keep black people in servitude to the Dumocrat party. Try to fool the Hispanics and enslave them as well. Use the MSM as their propaganda wing. Those are just the BAD ideas that they have already told us about. I'm sure if you are a conservative, you can add some MORE BAD ideas that the Dumocrats have already talked about, since they don't have ANY good ideas.

What kinda paranoid wacko are you?
Pitbull writes:
"libs are dangerous and they... will destroy our families by using the homosexuals"
Dude, you are out to lunch. There is no gay plot to destroy families. I mean, you think a bunch of gay guys get together in a magenta-colored boardroom and plot how to wreck the American family? That's stupid.

Lowest divorce rate in the US? Massachusetts, where gay marriage is legal. Highest? Texas, along with Alabama, Arkansas, Arizona, Florida, Georgia, Mississippi, North Carolina, Oklahoma and South Carolina aka the bible belt, where it ain't.

Don't believe me? The researcher was a fundamentalist Christian.

I Heard It Before.
It went like this:

"Oh, Daddy, I'm sorry, but I flunked only one or two of my classes each year; and I know I wrecked the car, but you have insurance and can get it fixed, can't you? Please, please, Daddy, don't ground me. And I'll clean up my room, I promise. And I promise I'll get a job and help pay off the credit card. And I'll quit the drugs, I promise. I didn't get pregnant, did I? so that's something, isn't it? And I'm not as bad as some of the other kids -- you know, that Tifany across the street got arrested. I didn't do that. Ooo-oo, thank you, Daddy. Can I have ten dollars?"

Kids and politicians and talk show hosts..........whatayagonnado?

Say What?
Mountain Rose, what is with the delusions?
George Soros' global marxist vision? I'm sorry, are you talking about Geore Soros, the ardent capitalist worth 8.6 BILLION dollars? If Soros were a Marxist, he would be living in a squat in NYC, eating out of a trashcan with the rest of the US Marxists. I think you got brainwashed by right wing radio. Try looking at facts, not propaganda.

And what would the Dems do?
Like the last time Democrats were in charge of the White House when we had a budget surplus, record employment, low interest rates, low inflation and the stock market grew more than it has ever grown in it's history? Yeah, that sure would suck for our beloved country.

Vietnam Redux.
Too much of politics is, of course, just opinion. Opinion?

http://forgottenprophets.blogspot.com/2006/10/latter-rains.html

It is hardly worth noticing. But some things do matter. Whether a tax is a bit higher or a bit lower? My powers of prophecy are insufficient to discern the merit of either. But standing true to our sons in the field? Not pulling out the rug -- if not "stabbing them in the back" (Weimar), or spitting in their eyes (Vietnam) -- this is a top priority. It is more than opinion. Of course there is a balancing, between pouring more blood on the fire, or investing more sacrifice in an attainable and worthy goal. As to which, we must each refer to our precept to discern. But my son is in Baghdad, and I consider his mission worthy of support. And I know, as we all do, that to elect a Democrat controlled house would be to repeat 1975, where an ally was betrayed, and the men who's lives were lost in that conflict were dishonored, and their death's wasted.

http://forgottenprophets.blogspot.com/2006/10/iraqnam.html

Never again. Unless it happens again. And in this, it's just up to a vote.

Super90
Where have YOU been the last 62 months? Democratic power is not healthy for national security. Were you asleep on Mars or something when 9/11 happened after 8 years of Clinton appeasing terrorist attacks on the United States?

Besides, switching to Democratic rule will not help the economy; we all have heard the horror stories of Carternomics.

Power,power,keep us in power!
The whining coming from the 'we must re-elect' the republicans crowd is absolutly amazing. They want to do their thing, IE re-elect the party and resort to name calling for the rest of us who want to do our thing, IE NOT re-elect the party. HEY, Charlie...our actions and/or reasons for taking those actions are just as valid as yours are whether you like it or not. No one is telling you not to vote to retain them, as goofy as that is to us...we are just telling you we AREN'T going to...whats the problem, huh?

Anyway, a column I read this morning by Mychal Massie address's some of the thinking of us who plan to throw the Repubs out. A small excerpt from it is below with the URL for those who wish to read more and maybe for once be informed that there really is two legitimate ways of thinking on the issue.

Quote....As an act of good faith, even the devil will seemingly help you before he ultimately comes for your soul. These Faustian "vote for me" waltzes continue, with the voters blinded to the fact that their vote, given freely, is just that – a free vote. There are ostensibly two reasons politicians offer when telling us we should vote for them. One is that the other guy, gal, and/or party is bad for us – which is synonymous with saying they, themselves, are good for us. The other is the "hell will freeze over and life will end if the other candidate/party is elected" mantra. I believe socialist, liberal Democrats are as bad for our country as lead paint is to a baby – but I'm starting to have a difficult time telling the difference between my Republican party and the liberal Democrat party. And it is specifically for that reason that I have concluded we must move beyond blind ideological support. It is time we demand something in exchange for our votes. It is not enough for candidates to promise us they will respect and fight for that which is important to us – they must deliver. And we should hold them accountable if they do not.

Assuming that . . .
. . . you're serious about not voting, or voting against the republicans for punishment's sake, it will be a total waste of time if you don't FAX or email or call, to make sure that your republican rep. understands exactly why you did what you did.

Super90: You obviously know nothing about the history of of federal government since Ronald Reagan. You seem to be suffering from Keynesian and Krugmanesque "economic thought." Boy, now there's an oxymoron.

So, as much as I was angry enough to march on D.C. with torches and pitchforks over McCain-Feingold, the Senior Prescription Meds program, the bail-out of the airlines after 9/11, The Rep. Stevens bridge-to-nowhere, etc., ad nauseum,
we cannot afford to have the taxes increased, and we certainly cannot afford another massively destructive attack on U.S. soil.

What idiots!!
So don't vote and vent your anger. Can't wait to see how angry you're gonna be when the dems are in charge. Where will you go to get rid of THAT anger?....remember how thrilled ya'll were when Clinton was in the OVAL....If you are so angry at
the republicans (for whatever) NOW IS NOT THE TIME TO SHOW IT....stop being whinny kids...like the dems are...support your party...the alternative is really scary....and wait till the teenny boppers are back in charge....THINK YOUR ANGRY NOW?????WAIT!!!! THE FUN IS JUST STARTING!

I have said...
many times that its not that I'm not going to vote, nor is it that I'll vote for A member of the Donkeys...I simply will no longer support any Republican candidate seeking a return trip to congress. It is my hope that the party remains the majority in the Senate on the chance that (A) another seat opens up on the Supreme court, and (B) Bush keeps his word about appointing a conservative in the mold of Clarence Thomas. But, lets face it, even there we have an iffy situation considering the attempt to put Meirs on the bench.

There is a simple situation here..it was we..the conservatives that put the party in power. The liberal elements couldn't do it, nor can they keep it power. If they could they wouldn't be howling so loud for us to vote. Like it or not, it was we who did it and its ours to take away. Like it or not its the adage' fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me" at work.

Super90
Is that why Soros pushed to hard for McCain Feingold? Because he hates socialism?

Or maybe thats why he disliked the tax cuts?
Because he loves the free market?

Soros plays the idiots who follow him like violins.

He already has his billions, what the he!! does he care what the tax rates are? The rest of you suckers will hit a nice 40% wall when you readch the income levels which might let you obtain real wealth.

Follow the pied piper little slave...

Ziggy, so tell me....
Wathcha' gonna do when they come for you???BAD BOY!
Don't vote....and put the dems back in power....big deal, "it is ours to take away"....FOR NOW! IF the dems become the power party, that wont be all they will take away....watch your back pocket and your kids....both will belong to the democrat party.....BAD BOY!
And as an added little feature, think about bowing to Mecca 5 times a day....
People have died for your right to VOTE and to have a say...does not matter that your party does not march in lock step for EVERYTHING you want....Watching Nancy Pelosi or Charlie Rangel in charge should scare the hell out of you...if not, well then, stay home...let the grown ups do the heavy lifting.....SHEESH!!!!!

Lefties and other liberal types
resort to name calling when others won't agree with them. It does appear to this poster that not all liberals are in the Democrat party.

Seems Ziggy,
..you are winning and crouching in a corner so afraid of getting out to vote because you did not get your way with the big boys. Grow up and quit the whinning...no one is calling any names....I feel like I am talking to my kids...attempting to make them feel better because they did not find what they expected under the Christmas tree.....GET OVER IT AND VOTE..PEOPLE DIED FOR YOU TO MAKE YOUR VOICE HEARD....that does not mean you get your way in every thing...Freedom, son, means you get "A" SAY....NOT "THE" SAY.
Vote, for crying out loud....act like a responsible person!

You are free
to make your own interpretations of anything I or others say or do. I know...I'm one of those that went to war in defense of those rights, so enjoy.

As to the current oncoming election...you do your thing for what ever reasons you chose to do them. It doesn't matter if I agree with you or not...nor does it matter if you understand or agree with my chosen actions.

Great..Ziggy
but lets' agree on this...when the dems are in charge...please do not complain about it. You helpled put them there.
And you are not the only one who went to war. Let me thank you for your service...but do not give in to the enemy now...VERY bad timing.

Kimberly...
...you sound so..so... Republican.

Why blame
me, or other conservatives...it was the Republican party that has failed to perform. They ARE our employees. I'm retired now but over the years I fired many hires who failed to perform...why should a party be different?
No, they CAN'T raise tax's...unless Bush and the remaining Republicans allow them to...Bush has a veto pen and the party has the senate filibuster...It worked for the dems didn't it...and so it goes with the other 'scare' phrases being used to freighten voters to support them. Incidently, I have already voted, and no...I don't believe in the bogey man or fear Nasty Pelosi.

With apologies to Mr. Beale
Conservatives, I don't have to tell you things are bad. Everybody knows things are bad. It's a disaster. Moderates are running congress and there's no Republican anywhere who seems to know what to do, and there's no end to it. We know that Arlen Spector and Lincoln Chaffee, and Mike DeWine are unfit to serve, and we sit listening to our radios while some talk show host tells us that Joe Lieberman is really a Republican.

We know things are bad - worse than bad. They're liberal. It's like everything everywhere is going liberal, so we just vote Republican. We vote Republican and slowly the world we are living in is getting more socialist, and all we say is, 'We just have to go along”. Let me have my two Supreme Court justices and my 700 hundred mile fence and I won't say anything. I will just go along.' Well, I'm not gonna let you go along. I want you to get mad! I don't want you to protest. I don't want you to write Denney Hasteret and Bill Frist because I know that it wouldn’t do a dammed bit of good. I don't know what to do about the moderates and the big government and the RINOS. All I know is that first you've got to get mad.

You've got to say, 'I'm a Conservative, Goddamnit! My vote has VALUE!' '
Things have got to change. But first, you've gotta get mad!... You've got to say, 'I'm as mad as hell, and I'm not going to take this anymore!' Then we'll figure out what to do about the spineless moderates and the country clubbers. But first get up out of your chairs, open the window, stick your head out, and yell, and say it:

"I'M AS MAD AS HELL, AND I'M NOT GOING TO TAKE THIS ANYMORE!"

Amen
Brother QParker, Amen

Non-Vote for Terrorists
As Maggie posted, if the Republicans fail to hold the line and "non-vote" in protest against the leftist Republicans, then the terrorists win.

The Socialist-Democrats take over, they will approach the Islamofascists with a deal: the USA will provide them money and anything else if the terrorists will leave the USA alone.

Danegeld, anyone?

and QParker...
just how are you going to tell this world you are "mad as hell and you are not going to take it any more?" By not voting? That's a real sweet plan, my friend....I know I am restating here, but....so you do not vote...what happens then?

Vote Democrat or not vote
NO WAY! I will not leave the Republican party just because I don't like everything they do these days. Voting for a liberal govt. would be FAR FAR worse.

Scary
Does it scare anyone that terrorist WANT liberals to win!

Kimberly
Get a grip! Want to make nice with Bin Laden? Think your party will not get a strong response from radical muslims who hate EVERYHING you libs stand for? Wake up. Terrorist want libs in charge because it will be easier for them to attack us again.

QParker
Okay kick and scream and throw a tantrum that really works. Sounds more like you are a left-over hippie. You WILL hurt our country if you allow the secular progressives in the liberal media and democrat party to govern us. Get mad but vote.

Well, here is my last two cents worth..
While the Republicans MAY have turned into something different than what we conservatives want, it is safe to say that allowing the Democrats to gain power is suicide for this country. ANY kind of consevative menu if favored over what the Democrats will dish out...Think of Nancy Pelosi and Charlie Rangel in power. Does that NOT give you pause...How about Hillary as Vice President...(that is her sure and ONLY road to the OVAL)and I am just foaming at the mouth to see the faces of Joe Biden or Ted Kennedy spouting the typical democrat lies and deception NIGHTLY, on your TV.
So, go ahead and NOT VOTE friends...you will have no one to complain to but your mirror.

refusing to vote
to all those who are pitching hissie fits and wanting not to vote in this election because things aren't going your way..we have children in this country that are depending on all of us to keep them safe and protect them from harm both from within and outside of the US. Stop playing with their lives and don't hand them over to socialist ideas that are from the dem. liberal side of the isle.

Kimberly
I DO want to dismantle it, however the existing people on it(beyond a certain age) should be given the option to stay or leave. That said I am 35 years old and I would like to take at least half of my SS tax out of the 'slush fund' and into my own account - its my money not Joe Senior's.

It is not the proper function of government to put all our money into the general fund then promise to pay it back later.

Privitisation is the answer.

Google 'Social Security Galveston County' and you will see why...

Mountain Rose
Do you know what The Security and Prosperity Partnership of North America (SPP) is and if so, how the Republican party differs from the Democrat party "who have sworn to rid the America of the USA."

WE NEED MORE OF BUSH?
On Iraq: CUT AND RUN from “STAY THE COURSE!”

WE GET THE GOVERNMENT WE DESERVE… and, boy, we’ve really been getting it for the last few years! Truth, values, competence and results no longer matter in America.

The problem: our President is not a rational thinker – his mind accepts information from only two sources: faith and experience. For example, he learned the "the enemy will follow us here" from Vietnam and the Domino Theory: “If we don’t defeat the communists in Vietnam, then we’ll have to fight them here in America.” Now just insert “terrorists” and “Iraq” into the one lesson Bush learned from Vietnam.

Because Bush is not rational (strictly empirical and subjective), objective facts and evidence such as the latest National Intelligence Estimate (NIE) are meaningless to this anachronistic man of several millennia ago. The reality of Iraq is what he thinks it is, and so our country and our precious soldiers are in for much more of this growing catastrophe, incompetence at the top from day one and continuing for the foreseeable future, and SPIN, SPIN, SPIN.

Meanwhile, on the economy: “TAXCUT AND SPEND” REPUBLICANS have absolutely no fiscal responsibility or accountability! The last time we had a balanced budget and pay-as-you-go legislation Bill Clinton was President and the Democrats instituted these Congressional controls. So much for Bush mythology on who has conservative values. Furthermore, Bush’s supply-side economics has not conserved our nation’s economic future.

SUPPLY-SIDE ECONOMICS… has sold our kids and grandkids down the river!

George Bush’s $3 trillion dollar tax giveaway to the rich has been a disaster for average Americans. Supply-side (trickle-down) economics is a bogus theory promoted by those who benefit from it. In a mature capitalist system, supply side never rules, it’s always the demand side of the equation that governs growth and well-being. Think about the 1930s Depression, General Motors had plenty of supply, but demand evaporated.

Previous U.S. recessions have been cured with only $200 billion in tax cuts targeted to the middle class, because the consumer (the great middle class) spends that tax cut and primes the economic pump. But George Bush has raised the debt that our children and grandchildren will have to pay from almost $6 trillion to almost $9 trillion for this current recovery, which is uniquely without wage gains, and which has shrunk the middle class that makes America strong and great.

Corporations (the supply side) are now loaded with cash, but there’s no place to spend it because they don’t see any demand. So many corporations are using that cash to buy back their stock – WOW, isn’t supply side wonderful in how it fulfills America’s needs? As the rich-poor divide increases, we’re headed toward previous shining examples of trickle-down economics: South America of the recent past and feudalism in the Middle Ages (South America and feudalism also had no wage gains).

Repubs Seek Only To Maintain Power
You know it's absolutely hillarious for me to read columns like this by Mr. Prager and others of his ilk. For months they were telling everyone that would listen that the Democrats would do ANYTHING to regain power because it was all that they cared about. The premise for this being that Republicans were only about using the power the now hold for the common good of the people.

We now know that this is total bs. With predictions of a possible takeover of both houses of Congress by Democrats after 10 years of Republican rule, Repub/Con pundits, activist
and media are in a state of absolute panic at the thought of losing "POWER". Articles like this say it all using "scare tactics" to bring
disaffected conservatives who say they wont vote back to the ballot box. Their desperate plea goes something like this:

"YOU MAY BE MAD AT THE HOW THE REPULICANS AND PRESIDENT BUSH HAVE RUN THE GOVERNMENT BUT IMAGINE THE HORROR OF DEMOCRATS LIKE PELOSI AND REID IN CHARGE..IT WILL BE THE END OF THE U.S. AS WE KNOW IT AND THE TERRORIST WILL HAVE WON!!!

It's totally hillarious reading this stuff and whats even funnier is that many on the right actually BELIEVE IT. LMAO

Finally, Republican dont want to maintain power for powers sake?

GET REAL...

ummm...one more thing...
I took the time to watch Bill O'Reilly on the internet last night....now, I know you all think he is a blowhard...and it might be true...however, he speaks real sense. He comes from where I do, has the same education and family values and thinks as I do...blowhard or not. MY consevative party would be exactly the way he describes it....It won't happen that way, but that is the conservative I aspire to be. The Republican Party can NOT ever be that image in today's world...they would never get elected to anything...so, anyway...that is my last two cents worth.
Miss Mellie is OUT!

Sorry....just had to add...
Stop complaining about George Bush...he is NOT running...neither is Dick Cheney....move on...for crying out loud...it is getting OLD!

So How Do We Win, Not Just Lose Less?
How DO we motivate Repubs to lose this pose of spinelessness and this kowtowing to the bogus idols of "moderation" and "centrism" that were totally unknown in the land prior to 1994, and start proudly proclaiming conservative Constitutional principles, talking the talk, and walking the walk? How do we convince them that taking principled stands and compiling consistent track records is not only the right thing to do, but (except in a few districts) politically smart?

Dennis says: " Now, regarding spending, I share Republicans' anger. Republicans who don't control government spending do far more harm than Democrats who don't. Why? Because when the smaller-government party expands government, those who believe in smaller government have nowhere to turn."

That last sentence seems to sum up the oh-so-clever little strategy of the RNC & the Rockefeller caucus & the highly paid consultants who think that the apathetic "undecideds" and (IMO largely mythical) moderate-welfare-staters in the alleged "middle" can be attracted by blandness and inoffensiveness. That notion doesn't even pass the laugh test.

The GOP will have us believe that it must always move left to appeal to these alleged "moderates" and "undecideds," and that taking a stand to the right on nearly any issue entails a risk of alienating these people that I honestly doubt could be made to care, or to vote Republican, in the first place.

I frankly have come to expect that this political "strategy" is not so much aimed at actually reaching out to this (mythical?) middle, but on preserving the Big Sugar Daddy Pork Barrel Welfare State status quo for the political class' own collective benefit. True conservatism and limited government is anathema to the self-interested career pol and bureaucrat, & they will spin any fairy tale to slip out of actually implementing and living under it.

We are told that only the GOP could possibly protect us, & that we must swallow their bilge for the duration of the "War on Terror." I got news for you; the fight against terrorism is not going to end, so any phoney compromises we make in its name will become permanent. I see no contradiction between real conservatism and legitimate fighting against real terrorism. I fail to believe that no one in a 3rd party could not do as well in this area.

The subject of Socialist Insecurity was mentioned. It appeared to me that this last rather desultory effort to reform this massive fraud and fiscal nuclear time bomb has at least put the lie to the legend of the "third rail." Actual seniors were not that worried by it, as well they shouldn't be since they would not receive a dime less. The AARP is one of those bogus advocacy groups actually run by leftists, and should be disregarded. Younger workers have an overwhelming interest in a complete structural change toward an ownership and private investment based syetm; they are the ones getting royally shafted & I'm surprised they aren't more vocal. (But then, the pop media carries the AARP's water and ignores dissenters) Social Security simply amounts to a second stealth income tax + a giveaway program, with the deferred costs simply punted into the future (of course now we're running out of road to punt that ball down!) It was, and is, all about creating dependence on government and keeping career incumbents in office. Therefore, I believe the real opposition to true SS reform comes from the political class itself.

OK, back to the topic: this smells like a stunt, a manipulation being practiced upon us. All through the last 3 Congresses they pointedly blew us off, or threw us dry bones. Now they want to scare us with (admittedly true) horror stories of renewed Demmie hegemony instead of giving us a reason to support them. We're being shoehorned into a phoney choice by a self-serving established political class. The GOP establishment is motivated to move left because supposedly that's where all its opposition is. It has no competition on the right. The only way to motivate the Repubs as a party to move right is to provide some competition over that way.

Remember, conservatives are NOT enacting "extemism" as the lefties & pop media would have you believe, but want to correct over half a century of destructive extremism the Demmies and the other Left have inflicted upon us.

IMO the pro-Second-Amendment advocates have shown the way with a great degree of success by basically making it clear to every politician that wobbliness on this issue will not be tolerated. They exploded the myths created about their position and issues, both the pseudoscientific and the political ones. We who want to see a restoration in other areas as well will have to start having and communicating expectations, and providing sticks as well as carrots as needed. Let the GOP pols do the worrying about "what if the Democrats win," hopefully every day of every session of Congress.

Oct. SUPRISE preview!
http://www.nysun.com/article/42334

Just when we think the Democrats can't find a lower level to slither to.

OH, and you Democrats who delude yourselves that all Cristians will change their CORE BELIEF because of something YOU SAY? Sure they will! You go on thinking that. You can really win peoples trust by insinuating they are stupid!

Nice try Dennis, I don't buy it one bit.
All this "pretty pleeeeze still vote for us" whining from party-liners and sheep-like shills is pathetic and disgusting, and more than enough evidence for me that the 2-party system is now but a two-headed snake with the same vile body and both heads sharing the same venom. Not good enough. There has to be a price paid. I'm not helping to perpetuate this broken system and feed the snake by voting exclusively along party lines, no matter what my "fellow conservatives" say. "Conservative" used to mean something entirely different than it does now, so I hate even referring to myself as one, and I have little allegiance to current "conservatives" who have buried the concept of national fiscal conservatism and small government, in favor of petty, small "moral" issues like gay marriage and stem cell research. You only THINK those things are important in the long run, because you've bought in the "party platform" mentality, and to me you are just part of the two-headed monster. I no longer buy it. Meanwhile there are real issues, BIG issues, being supressed or ignored altogether, not the least of which is the future economic well-being of our nation.

Look into the future a few years. The US Government is already running itself broke at an incredible pace. China is financing our debt, and will at some point just about OWN us, while rapidly building up military assets and acting as an adversary in the Middle East and at the UN, as is Russia. China will have the growth, China will have the money surplus, and the geopolitical influence. Even the war on Islamist terror will seem small in a few years compared to what's looming after it, economically. (China is far more Capitalist-conservative than we are these days.)

Will I vote "D" across the board? Of course not. But I'll vote against any entrenched incumbents on both sides, in favor of Newbs from outside of professional politics, and more importantly I'll support nearly any Independant or Libertarian candidate I can, just for the sake of driving a wedge into the current "bloc" party system, the two-headed monster. That's how my vote can mean something. You can scream as loud as you want about the Dems "wanting to lose the war on terror". I'll take my chances on them winning Congress, and meantime I'll just have to trust the Military. Maybe a Dem congress for a few years will force conservatives to again decide what conservative really means, what the big issues really are, and what the future of America currently looks like when you look beyond the petty sensational headlines. I know what the overfed two-headed snake gets me, and I'd like to starve it, and introduce a predator into it's environment.

Voting Intangibles
What would entice anyone to vote (or not vote) to the detriment of their own best interests? The economy is good. The war against terrorism is going less well, but at least Republicans realize there IS a war and the Bush administration is presumably making adjustments as the terrorists ramp up their efforts in order to influence the outcome of our elections. Republicans must be credited with the fact that we have not suffered another attack on our own soil. Conservative justices have been safely installed on the Supreme Court. Energy prices are down. So what gives? Why the threat of some conservatives to sit this election out in order to "send a message" that every single one of their policy initiatives has not been enacted into law? Have they never heard of consensus, of give-and-take, of compromise? Only in a dictatorship would any faction get its entire agenda. Are they waiting for a messiah? Conservatives with this attitude are spoiled brats that need to grow up. They will turn this government over to the socialists at their own peril. If this happens ready yourself for vascillating, indecisive half-measures that will only embolden our enemies.(Remember Carter?). Would disgruntled conservatives prefer that to a government that is trying to do the right thing over tremendous opposition both at home and abroad? We expect a government by grown-ups. We citizens should be grown-ups too.
Vote!

Mountain Rose
Yes, thats the one...I've read the communist manifesto, and yes the Dems do seem to love it...but do some in depth checking on the SPP also...its the one world government people laying one more slab in its foundation...And, in my opinion, since the one worlders are in both party's, I see no way to stop it, no matter who does or doesn't vote or who they vote for if they do. Its a very sad thing to me that near the end of my days I get to see my beloved country on its last legs.

Term Limits
Dennis:

The answer is NOT to vote out the disappointing Republicans in the primary where the deck is stacked in favor of the fat dumb and happy incumbents who have a huge edge financially and attention of the voters is unfocused. Rather we must have TERM LIMITS if we are ever to get both accountability and responsibility in government. Your "hold my nose" and vote for the politicians who have done little to earn your vote than a few tax cuts countered by huge increases in spending is just lame. Also without a doubt the Administration has let us down in Iraq and refuses to even acknowledge its terrible failures. even George Will has had it with the Bush Cheney drivel as he recently noted in his column at http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/15460708/site/newsweek/

He states therein:

"A surreal and ultimately disgusting facet of the Iraq fiasco is the lag between when a fact becomes obvious and when the fiasco's architects acknowledge that fact. Iraq's civil war has been raging for more than a year; so has the Washington debate about whether it is what it is.

In a recent interview with Vice President Cheney, Time magazine asked, "If you had to take back any one thing you'd said about Iraq, what would it be?" Selecting from what one hopes is a very long list, Cheney replied: "I thought that the elections that we went through in '05 would have had a bigger impact on the level of violence than they have ... I thought we were over the hump in terms of violence. I think that was premature."

While you may disagree with Mr. will the fact remains we are left with almost no choice this year but to "send a message" to the incumbents that they have violated the People's Trust by voting in part against our interests.

Look all the doom and gloom of the Republican apologists will end on Nov. 8 when they can start to rebuild the party with new blood...as another election is only 2 years away and at least for some of us we will have an opportunity to find (hopefully) politicians who are responsive to the voters. Of course none of this would be necessary if we had term limits and Republicans and Democrats could throw out the corrupt politicians without also voting against their interests.

A non vote or Dem vote
A non vote or Dem vote will mean:
Judges making laws.
Abortion becoming legal.
Marriage being re-defined.
Terrorist having to be fought here rather than overseas.
The military being weakened.
Babies being killed for cloning experiments.
Christians being silenced.
Age of consent laws being abandoned.
The US Constitution being watered down.
Government running our private lives.

Just to name a few. Are you really willing to see america go this way? Values voters ARE not going to sit home!

Really??
Who says so? "Values voters ARE not going to sit home!"

As to the rest of your post, IE,

Judges making laws.
Abortion becoming legal.
Marriage being re-defined.
Terrorist having to be fought here rather than overseas.
The military being weakened.
Babies being killed for cloning experiments.
Christians being silenced.
Age of consent laws being abandoned.
The US Constitution being watered down.
Government running our private lives.

Hasn't that BEEN going on under the Republicans??

Fighting there vs here? What makes you think that we actually have that as an option? True, no more attacks here since 9/11...Do you believe thats a permanent situation "if only we'll re elect the Republicans"...

Not based on emotion
The idea to send a clear signal to our party now is a smart move based on facts and not emotion. By doing this now we can fix our party before 2008 and allow some real conservatives a chance to run for office. Also if the GOP wins and has total control after this election, then 2008 sets up the Libs for an even greater victory... which could mean President Hitlary.

Holy COW..I leave for a minute and blam!
MAX Brand...Ilove you...I am a married woman and it would not be right...but would you leave your life and join me!!??? JUST KIDDING....but how so right on you are.
Let's face it,....there will never again be the likes of our beloved Ronald Reagan...a true STATESMAN...(his life story can be seen on the BIOGRAPHY Channel...great watching)And there is not one party out there that fulfills the wishes of each and every citizen, ALL THE TIME...but we need to stop acting like spoiled children...NO one gets EVERYTHING but it is about choosing the party that is the closest to your own thoughts. Surly that is NOT the democrats....are any of you out there, in any way similar to a Ted Kennedy, or a Nancy Pelosi...wanting to just throw your hard earned money away to lazy shiftless ingrates. Think about it....I hate the idea of voting against something....VOTE FOR your PARTY....the alternative is a total difference to what you believe....Neither the Dems nor the Pubs are cookie cutter parties....vote the closest to your own interesst....THINK OF THE ALTERNATIVE...

Bush Fumbled the Ball

.....Prager...

.....Bush tried to govern the country the same way he governed Texas where he got 43 per cent of the Mexican vote and about 15 per cent of the black vote...

.....what he overlooked was that Democrats in Texas are more conservative than Republicans in New York...In trying to live up to his promise of "being a uniter instead of a divider"...of being President of all the people...not just Republicans and promising to reach across the aisle to work with the Democrats...all this...led to his falling out of grace with the conservative base...

.....he should not have joined with Ted Kennedy and Federalized Public Education...he should have vetoed McCain-Feingold without a second thought...he should not have expanded medi-care when Social Security is on life-support...he should not have supported what amounts to an amnesty bill for millions of illegals...

.....all of these mistakes were made in good faith but were anethema to his conservative base...now the base must hold their nose and vote to maintain control of both houses until '08 when they will have an oppertunity to put a "real" conservative in the White House.....COLOSSUS

What have you really done?
So many opinions! But I wonder how many of you who say they're not going to take it any more, they're going to teach "them Repubs" a lesson have actually;
1) attended your party primary 2) met your candidates and gone to a session to listen to their platforms 3)plastered the yard with candidate signs 4) donated $$$ 5) worked in the campaigns of the candidates that share your views on key issues 6) joined your LOCAL party and gotten involved in it's LOCAL education and growth efforts 7) put a bumper sticker for your candidate on the back bumper 8) said anything positive about that candidate/party to your water cooler buddies etc etc
Please, don't rest on righteous outrage but vote today and tomorrow GET INVOLVED in the campaigns that do reflect your own views

Ziggy
Republicans are fighting to stop the things listed above and will continue to do so. And yes as long as we stay on the offensive and take the fight to the terrorist it keeps them from coming in here to bring the fight on our own soil. You are only here to spread more of the liberal lies that we have heard day and night. You concrete our resolve to keep liberals out of office.

We won't be voting Democrat either
2.7 TRILLLLLLION DOLLARS
Thats more than 17 million a day - 365 days a year, dripping off of each and every Congressman. Republicans AND Democrats AGREE that there are no Constitutional limits on what the Government can spend money on. We have no Constitution. No right to own property.
And you want us to vote for more of the same? Do I have idiot written on my forehead? Republicans and Democrats run the Government. If I don't like the Government, I have to stop voting for Republicans and Democrats. How is that logic flawed? You lie or are deceived if you think the smart people like me are going to vote Democrat. We will be voting Libertarian, Constitution, etc...

jcdean
What a load of garbage. The libs and their bias media have really done a job on you. You are willing to sacrifice the whole party for what your "I'll show them" mentality. It's politics! What makes you think that you will get a better crop next time if you punish our party now?

jdieter
That's fine but right now there is no other party to vote for in THIS election. So if you sit back on your butt and don't vote then you let down the country big time by allowing others to run it by default.

Concerned
here, here!
I fail to see how weakening the party is going to help those representatives, who do care about our issues, fight for them. I care too much about the apointment of judges, the security of our country and the long term moral and economic health of the nation to figure that two days, let alone two years under Pelosi etc is worth whatever message we would send to the Republicans. There is a better way to speak your views to the party than sitting on your vote people!

mountain rose
Oh my what an argument. Counterfeiting is real. North Korea was caught doing that recently. Bush IS NOT a one-worlder. That's just insane.

But concerned..
liberals ARE in office, and of course thats why the majority of the conservatives now refuse to support the Republican party. See how that works?

JoBo
Thanks! Finally another voice of reason!

Ziggy
That is an insane way of thinking. Dems are NOT going to do one single thing for conservatives so our voting to support them would be more than ridculas. More liberal minded folks in the Rep. party are WAY outnumbered by conservatives. And third parties usually don't fair well in big national elections. Perot voters helped put Clinton in office.

wasted vote
I live in an area in which my incumbant Republican Congressman, Senator and Governor will win by comfortable margins. I really want to send them the message that I'm not happy with their free spending ways and since I couldn't stomach voting for their Democratic opponents, I "wasted" my vote on Libertarians this year.

I think Mountain Rose
is right in here observations about the motivation behind all this currency changing going on. In baseball sometimes its the first hit of the game is the one that wins it, the early stages of one worldism may be all the warning we get before its fait accompli. Sure Bush is a one worlder in my opinion just like his old man was/is.

Ziggy
Stop listening and reading MSM reports. the Majority are still supporting Republicans its a minority in the party that aren't!

Jobo
has a point even if you think it without merit.

jdeiter...the thing is this..
for EVIL to happen, all that good men have to do is NOTHING....
VOTE...and get your voice out there...If you allow the Dem party a foothold...who and what are you going to bring your complaint to....Hillary?..
Fat Ted?...AlGore? My sides are hurting from laughing so much....perhaps Charlie Rangel will give you a voice!
Listen, the best and ONLY hope is what we have in the Repbublican Party....JoBO is 100% correct..get involved...I did for a long time till I got a bit older....Local gov't is just as important as the National stuff...GET Involved and let the locals know what you think. That is what they get paid for. VOTE!

No other party?
Libertarian? Constitution? Write in.
When someone hands you a basket with two rotten worm filled apples in it, and you pick the apple with the fewest worms, they will tell you that you LIKE rotten apples, and the proof is - that you voted for one!
I don't give a rats a$$ about what Republicans and Democrats claim to disagree about. I care about what they AGREE on. They agree that there are NO limits on what the Federal Government can spend money on.
That they can charge me taxes on my own property. That they can kick my door down with no warrant. Throw me in jail if I don't produce "my papers". Stop me from bearing arms. Stop me from peacefully assembling. If you are "SCARED" about what "The others" will do, I say, send me a million dollars or the world will explode.
Scared little rats voting for the people that have destroyed your Constitution.
Smart people see this Two party system for what it is. The biggest fraud ever perpetrated in history.

IF...conserned...
the majority (as you say) are still supporting the Republicans, then whats all the whining about...the party will be OK...with out us!

Too much at stake
There is too much at stake NOT TO VOTE! People you put these folks in office and probably supported them until this round of MSM assaults started. VOTE!

Reasons to vote Republican
Just count the number of troops in Iraq, Afghanistan, and the rest of the world and that is the number of reasons to vote Republican. If the dems have their way they will cut funding of the war on terror and put our soldiers in deeper jeopardy.

Actually all Americans will be in deeper jeopardy, if the dems get their way they will have America playing patty cake with the likes of Al Quieda, that idiot in North Korea and the one in Iran.

On a personal note, I don't want to lose the tax cuts and believe me I am not rich. My husband and I just celebrated our 40th wedding anniversary and it would be a shame to redefine marriage as anything but the union of one man and one woman. I wonder how many of the babies that have been aborted would have grown up to be truly great Americans, like a scientist who would come up with a cure for cancer or alzheimers or any of the other terrible illnesses, or a true statesman who could be respected and admired for his honesty, intelligence and morals.

I am not going to have to hold my nose to vote Republican, I am going to do it proudly and with the knowlege that it is the right thing to do.

ziggy
It is a priviledge to vote! Ask those in countries that aren't allowed to. Hey if you don't want to vote then stay at home but then you have no right to run your mouth about what is going on in government because you opted out of the system.

Too much at stake!
Yes, I am so scared. I'm sure I will die and my children will all be raped if I don't vote for a rotten apple. I can't believe this fear mongering works so well on people.
YOUR CONSTITUTION IS GONE!
When the House holds a vote - Republicans AND Democrats vote. You are looking at a Government that Republicans AND Democrats created. If you don't like it, you have to STOP VOTING FOR REPUBLICANS AND DEMOCRATS!

Undecided?
I just know we are ALL undecided.
And Republicans are real eager to go from bad to WORSE!

Retreat will bring that war to America.
If you think you want to bring that war to America, check this out and see what you can expect. This woman has lived through that he11.
http://www.AmericanCongressForTruth.org

If that war ever comes here, YOU or a loved one can expect to get your own personal sample of this!

Hmmmm
Are you admitting then the Party NEEDS the conservatives now?...the ones they told 4-5 weeks ago that we DIDN'T get them(Republicans) elected or re-elected?...the ones the party leadership said it didn't matter what we did or thought...they had the plan...??????

I fought for that right
so I always have it to do as I want with it....got it??

jdieter
Good grief! It is right now what it is. In this election, we have two parties to vote for. Ranting won't change that this time.

ziggy
Who said the didn't need us? Oh the MSM said that Republicans didn't need values voters...they are so truthful in their facts.

jdieter
My constitution IS NOT gone!

"lose" your tax cuts?
Maybe you missed the posting about 2.7 trillion dollars a year. THE GOVERNMENT GREW FASTER THAN EVER BEFORE IN HISTORY.
My property taxes (In a REPUBLICAN State) are through the roof - 4 times higher increase than my measly "tax cut". My telephone taxes went up, my permits and stickers went up.
This Country truly has nothing to fear, but fear itself. Why should we fear fear? Because it is fear that gets the liar elected. Just read this blog! People actually believe the BIG LIE that there are differences between the parties.
I say again, the Government is made up of Democrats and Republicans. If you don't like the Government, STOP VOTING FOR THEM!

jdieter
Your problem is with your local and state govt. Our taxes here are not through the roof. Gas taxes are being cut and so are property taxes because or local and state Republicans are listening to the people. I am a middle calss American and i can not think of ONE thing that the govt. needs to do for me personally that it is not doing already.

MyOpine , Concerned
MyOpine, if you believe the Democrats would handle the war any differently, explain to me why the Democrats en mass voted FOR the war, and every single appropriations bill? Hmmm? Democrats are very good at war, and love war. Remember Vietnam? Korea? WWII, - yeah, Democrats. Your fears are being exploited. Both parties are spending billions every year to make your poor little brain think there is some difference between the parties.
Concerned: Have you never heard of the Libertarian or Constitution parties?

Ziggy and Faust
Quoted by Ziggy as a logical reply which is anything but logical:

"Quote....As an act of good faith, even the devil will seemingly help you before he ultimately comes for your soul. These Faustian 'vote for me' waltzes continue, with the voters blinded to the fact that their vote, given freely, is just that – a free vote."

Since the author of the above is unlikely to be a believer in God, the author certainly is not a believer in Satan, or of "good faith;" so the whole paragraph can be seen as a deception, as a marketing ploy guided by whom, or what?

"There are ostensibly two reasons politicians offer when telling us we should vote for them. One is that the other guy, gal, and/or party is bad for us – which is synonymous with saying they, themselves, are good for us."

Never a bit of it! If I were to say, "Alcohol is bad for you: I recommend pot," is that the same as saying "Pot is good for you?" To say that one person or party is bad is not at all the same as saying that anyone running on the other party ticket, or that party, is good. If you're going to tell me you're good, you're going to have to convince me what about you or your party makes that true! Nothing in the past 40 years of leftist brewing government suggests anything remotely resembling good or truth.

"The other is the "hell will freeze over and life will end if the other candidate/party is elected" mantra."

Well, we're approaching the possibility that this is true. Thanks to a few Democrat presidents and congresses the world has become a far more dangerous place. It's all to close to literally blowing, which make make Gore's global warming a reality of the most sinister and immediate kind, while Democrats want to pretend to wage war with words, bribes, giving our forces to the UN (such an august, honest body!) and blowing up asperin factories on enemy soil.

"I believe socialist, liberal Democrats are as bad for our country as lead paint is to a baby – but I'm starting to have a difficult time telling the difference between my Republican party and the liberal Democrat party. And it is specifically for that reason that I have concluded we must move beyond blind ideological support."

So, this quoted author, because good isn't good enough, or quick enough in coming, would have us vote for a known bad? That will "show them" they're accountable all right.

"It is time we demand something in exchange for our votes. It is not enough for candidates to promise us they will respect and fight for that which is important to us – they must deliver. And we should hold them accountable if they do not."

Agreed, but name an instance in the past twenty years when a Democrat has been "held accountable?" This is not the party which dismisses any members for "little things" like campaign corruption, adultery with miner, young employees in the White House, theft from the White House, renting rooms in the White House, lying under oath. Anyone could go on... No, if a Republican is even accused of a transgression Democrats scream to a man, "Even the possibility that this happened is so serious a breach that this person MUST leave." When a Democrat is guilty of far worse transgressions, they all hold hands ranting, "This is nobody's business; only the petty minded would prosecute this!"

jdieter
Dems will handle the war different they don't support it on any level. They have already said they will cut funding for the war, that they will bring troops home and that this is an illegal war. GET a GRIP. They DO NOT SUPPORT THE WAR! They DO NOT FEAR TERRORIST!

Concerned
You know, that any police officer in the country can stop you and demand to see your drivers license. (you will go to jail if you do not provide it. "Your papers please") They can do a full body cavity search "for there own safety", They can kick your door down with no warrant because they heard "scuffling" inside. Can you name one category that the Federal Government thinks it is not allowed to spend money on? You cannot contribute as much money as you want to whatever politician you want. You cannot even put up a billboard that says "vote for fred" without being arrested. (read McCain Finegold)
Go ahead. Vote for more of the same because you are scared. You scared little rats have ruined this country. I say, go ahead and finnish it off.
Believe the big lie that the parties are different. Hell, they spent billions trying to convince you of it. How can I change your mind with a few words.

Right...
As I said in an earlier post, lefties and other liberal types tend to call others who won't agree with them names..or, in your case insult them...If you think MSM is my basis of thought, have at it...the time has long past since I gave a whit about uninformed, passing annoyances. Here's the bottom line lefty type Republicans...vote the party back in...if you can...don't worry about what I or other conservatives have told you or are going to do...I most always do what I say and in this case, the die is already cast. IF concerned is right that the majority of conservatives still support the party, heck, no worries mate...if, on the other hand he's wrong, then there remain 6 more days of crying time...then its house minority status for the Republicans, and deservedly so.
So let it be written, so let it be done.

Concerned
You actually believe what politicians say?
They are saying those things for only one reason. To convince people that there are differences between the parties. To perpetuate the big lie.
Democrats voted for the war! and every spending bill related to it.

My Two Cents Worth
Where the Republicans have failed is where they have acted like Democrats. Setting up and funding intitlement programs is a socialist (and Democrat) activity. Failing to control the border is something the Democrats do because they think the illegals will vote for them since they let them in. The Dems even support letting illegals vote and against providing identification to prevent voter fraud. I would love for Social Security to be dismantled and let me invest my 7.625% in a savings account that actually earns something and is not spent on other pet pork-barrel projects. I also get to control my spending of it upon my retirement rather than the government telling me how much I can have a month.

jdieter
Oh poor put upon oppressed american. Poor thing all your rights are being trampled upon. Friend you do not know the meaning of oppression. You have freedom to complain even when you make no sense. You have freedom to live any way you want. You have freedom to make decisions and change. NO ONE BUT YOU IS OPPRESSING YOU!

I have no sense!
Thanks for your kind thoughts.
Look, If I were in charge I would have given every pilot an UZI after 911 - and dropped a nuke on Afghanistan. I WOULD NOT have created another HUGE Federal Beuracracy to search Grandmaws underware. And I certainly would not create another HUGE Federal Government entitlement for Prescriptions.
You go ahead and be scared of those mean Democrats who want Terrorists to kill my children. Go ahead and be irrational. I really don't care about people so full of fear. Jesus could teach you a thing or two. Put your fear aside and think logically about what they do! Not what they say. Historically, Democrats have gotten us into every war we have had.
Oh wait. I'm asking you to think. Sorry. I'm outta here.

ONe more for mister concerened
Freedom?
I see asians riding four people on a half broke motorcycle. They have the freedom to drive any vehicle they want, no stickers, no registration, no helmet law, no mandatory insurance. They can build their house any way they want. No permits or codes. They can live in holes in the ground if they want. In Mexico you can walk into the drug store and buy some anti-biotics. In.... Oh never mind. Next time you are at the DMV, enjoy your "Freedom".

jdieter
One of the few who really get's it.

If you've got a couple of hours to spare, have a look...

http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-4312730277175242198

Yeah, it's sounds like the same old at first, but if you keep watching, it will scare the crap out of you!! It's truly amazing the audacity of some of the statements made by these "officials".

"for EVIL to happen, all that good men have to do is NOTHING...."

All that "good men" have to do is trust in God. We know how it ends, and what we are going to have to go through before it does. Voting sure as heck isn't going to change that. It will be just as it is written. Or do you consider God to be a liar? Or worse, don't believe He exists at all?

Evil will do whatever it takes to try to win. If evil can't get the votes, it will resort to fraud. Or do you expect evil to be virtuous and play by the rules? LOL!!

We have only as much freedom and property as "they" choose to give us. It seems that they are "choosing" to take a great deal of it back now. I expect a great many people to lose their homes in the very near future.

But, I could be wrong. Only time will tell. But my gut feeling is that we are being hoodwinked.

whatareyougonnado?
I see no other solution to the problem than to not vote for the politician or the party that fails to live up to the mandate they recieve from their supporters. How else does the angry voter truly express his anger at the politician who compromises his integrity and violates the very principles he expoused when he sought the support of the conservative base?

I will not vote for a liberal---even if he is more conservative than the liberal extremist...

the best way to keep the party conservative is to withhold support from the liberals. Better to have a liberal government under democrats than republicans? You betcha...

the nation always gets the leadership it Deserves.

jdieter
How can you comment here when you obviously have never even watched the news?
Rangle, (Head of DSA), has already stated he intends to DEFUND the war. That is what Socialist Democrats always DO. They take the militery budget and squander it on PORK.
They weaken America to the point where some tyranical country thinks we are pushovers and we are forced into a war EVERY TIME it happens.
Check back in history and notice Democrats have weakened American Defence every time they get in office.
THIS IS NOT A GOOD TIME TO DO THAT
AND I don't have a Democrat Secret Decoder Ring.
Please use just plain English if you reply.

jdieter
Oh good. You would have dropped a bomb on Afganistan. You would once again punish all for the actions of some. Well at least you are consistant in your misguided views.

jdieter
I will agree that both parties have a spending problem. But it is what they spend the money on that makes a difference to me.
I do not want my money spent on:
funding abortions
funding embryonic stem cell research
unlimited social service projects
to name a few.

Bad intelligence
Why was it bad? Because Dems cut the budget for intelligence spending and limited resources for on ethe groud intllegence gathering.

See...
You libs are turning my brain into mush I can't spell LOL

Rangle said blah blah - the bomb
Again, it is foolish to base your beliefs on what politicians SAY and not on what they DO as a whole.
I vote third parties and independents. Libertarian (like Ron Paul) Constitution, even green or Nader. You should realize from our conversation that I don't like a huge Federal nanny state unconstitutionally taking care of every tiny aspect of my life from cradle to grave. I cannot vote for more of the same! I don't want a Government that throws me in jail for making the wrong kind of toilet.
Re: the bomb. You drop it, and Pakistan Complains. They you tell the Pakistanis "Do you want one too!"
And you tell the Iraqis, and the Iranians and every other country that doesn't cooperate 100% with the FBI in their terrorist hunt, that a they can expect the same.

Republicans don't love the Lord like Dems do. Republicans fear the Lord, Dems love the Lord. WHAT??? Last time I checked "fear the Lord" in biblical terms means RESPECT.

Kimberly: Naive
"Why is America so fiscally unprepared for the next century? Like many of its citizens, the United States has spent the last few years racking up debt instead of saving for the future. Foreign lenders — primarily the central banks of China, Japan and other big U.S. trading partners — have been eager to lend the government money at low interest rates, making the current $8.5-trillion deficit about as painful as a big balance on a zero-percent credit card."

+We generated the majority of said debt in the form of $1.4T annually in entitlement spending (the biggest chunk of the federal budget) over the last 40 years (Republicans have only been in charge for the last 12 years)- the majority of which has gone to subsidize individuals who think (or rather FEEL) just like you.

While I agree with tort reform to a degree, it's hardly a success to rein in legal abuse without also going after reform in our insurance industry or Big pharma - two industries backing the Bush administration that are big abusers and beneficiaries of the legal system, but barely getting a nod in regards to reform.

+I assume you’re one of those mental defective leftists that think the “Association of Trial Lawyers of American” are altruistic secular saints in $1000 suits & BMWs. Liability adds to the cost of everything including the cost of drugs & medicine in general. Do you know that the US military had trouble finding a drug company that was willing to produce Anthrax vaccines? Why? Liability due to the slimeball trial lawyers that are the DNC’s biggest financial backers after the NEA. Quite a few drug companies have remove themselves from the vaccine business due to liability. Do you know that there is going to be a shortage of primary care MDs in the next few years? Why? Liability again. Why be an MD and be a productive member of society when you can be a slime trial lawyer that makes big $$$ suing said MDs? The DNC certainly won’t bite the hand that feeds it.

Not one Democrat has said that we should not go in and rework Social Security it to some degree, and Prager knows this. But Prager also knows that rather than Google "Where Democrats stand on Social Security" his readers will swallow his "all or nothing" diatribe on the evil opponents to GOP control.

+Reality: Social Security is a PONZI scheme that is heading for a near term financial crash. There is no Social Security surplus- it has been used by both parties to hide the true size of the national debt. DNC’s solution? The Democrats have slowly transferred all of the income tax burden to the top 50% of wage earners (= $50K or greater annually: top 50% pay 96% of all income taxes.) The bottom 50% essentially only pay payroll taxes which consist of Medicare & Social Security Taxes. The Democrats “solution” is to buy more votes from the “parasite class”: forget the first $15-20K in earnings and then raise the taxable income limit from $80K to $110K IOT make up the difference. This would of course place a greater tax burden burden on the majority of taxpayers- expendable, minimally franchised men like myself. Republican solution? take a small part of an individual Social Security “Contribution” and invest it the Stock market in the form of a 401K.

+Unfortunately, most people who support the DNC’s policies WRT wealth redistribution are those persons who have placed themselves firmly in the “To Each According To HER Needs” Column.

jdieter
That is just stupid thinking. You want to bring harm to innocent oppressed people in regions that are being controlled by terrorist. You're thinking like another oppressor!

Non Voter as Traitor
I cannot comprehend that anyone who considers themselves a "conservative" would not vote on any US election day. To go to the polls is to affirm the sacrifice of of all patriots who have suffered for liberty. From Crispus Attucks to the most recent casualty in Iraq, one must vote if for no other reason than to honor their sacrifice.

To not vote out of resentment is the equivalent of urinating on the graves of the fallen that now lay dead in expectation that the living will sanctify their death by voting. To do otherwise and stay home, like a spoiled child, is to be nothing more than a puny, bed wetting traitor.

Wise libertarians vote GOP
JDieter talks sense. I sympathise with you. I really do. BUT, bottom line, JDieter, if the only REAL choice is between a less-rotten and a more-rotten apple, I know what I'm going for. I'm libertarian too. And the way to get us there in the end is to vote in the more libertarian-leaning Repubs at the primaries, just like Prager said. They are on the increase. We'll never get there in the short term, but with Republicans in charge, we're more likely to get there in the long term.

Three things
Three things occur to me as possible solutions.

1. Get involved. Like JoBo said. Get involved with the local party of your choice. If you want to make the Conservative or Libertarian party a viable choice for upcoming elections then get involved now. If you want to strengthen the Republican and ensure the resurgence of core values then get involved now. Attend a local dinner or meeting. Find out who the local politicians are -- don't like what you see? Get loud and offer some alternatives.

2. Get vocal on national issues. When the President speaks out on behalf of privitization of Social Security or tax cuts and gets ridiculed in the press or drowned out by irrelevent side issues -- get loud!!! Write letters to the editor of your local paper. Write your local politicians (even if they are Democrats they keep track of numbers for and against -- one reason they voted FOR the war before they were against it).

3. Get behind a single issue that has resonance with the American public. Immigration is one of many. Taxes are another. Look into the Fair Tax. Buy the book or log onto the website. Type FairTax.org into your search engine and you should be able to find it.

There are things we can and should be doing. I've been as guilty as the next person. Too busy dealing with kids and jobs to get involved. Trusted in the system to get us through. But the system is only as good as the people running it.

It's time for those of us who love this country and the ideals it was founded on to get our hands dirty and change things for the better. In the meantime, I'll vote for the best alternative I have -- this year that's the Republican ticket. In red state NY I don't expect things to change, but I have to do my part.

Kimberly
Did you pay $500.000 to have dinner with Clinton and have face time with the super-star of the little people? I wouldn't pay $.05 for dinner with that fool.

cant let this go Concerned
You wrote "You would once again punish all for the actions of some." Yes, I would gladly kill everyone in Afghanistan to end terrorism.
When you see 12 year old girls getting their throats slit, you can't sit back and do nothing, just because some innocent person might get hurt. You have to calculate how many innocent lives you are willing to sacrifice to stop the evil.

OOPS
That's blue state NY. Shouldn't red be for communist?

and thank you for calling me stupid
I really appreciate the kind and logical discourse.

Bucko
AMEN!

I Wonder?
My vote would be for every American citizen to refuse to pay their taxes this coming year. Republican or Democrat...that is the root of the existing problem with our once great country. The rich continue lining golden pockets while 99.9% of us never see much but our mortgaged back yards for the rest of our natural lives.
What happened to a "UNITED" America? A two party system will be our ultimate demise. "We the people" have become "we the sacrificial" in these times of favoritism and unaccountability. Just imagine...Who will pay for the prisons to house those of us who grow weary of being nothing other than a social security number? Although I do not condone a massive revolution, I do wonder just how long the government will continue to pick our pockets while hiding what we have the right to know, and holding themselves (as elected officials) to a standard lower than they expect from those they purpose to represent. Our government has become nothing more than a secret society of back patters hobnobbing with the rich and famous while we foot the bill.
Just when did we forget that all of us are immigrants?

jdieter
Then what you say is we shouldn't help liberate these innocent children of God from their oppressors, we should just kill them all because they have no right to live in freedom from Terrorist like we do. You are sick!!!

Wasted vote??..you betcha'
Talk about your wasted vote...have we forgotten that little flop eared fool? what was his name...Oh yeah...ROSS PEROT!....TWICE he spoiled it for the Republicans and we got Clinton....Don't anyone try to tell me that voting anything but Dem or Repub is not a waste of time. We need to remain a two party system...anything else is useless. It is silly to parse the parties....you get nothing in return.

There's a diff ya know...
Most conservatives do indeed plan to vote from what I've seen. They just don't plan to cast one for any Republican looking for a trip back to congress? Some will vote for a minor or third party,a few of the least committed for a Dem....most,like me, will leave the race blank.

Not supporting the Republican party with ones vote is not the same as one not voting.....

AMEN..BUCKO.
I wish I had said that! :-)

Bucko
I am not swayed by fear mongering. You are. Like I said, the parties spend billions to convince you there is a difference between them. You should be worried about what the parties agree on. Not what they claim to disagree on in their propaganda.
Were I in charge there would be NO fallen American soldiers, only smoldering ruins in Afghanistan where I had the balls to do what needed to be done, and nuked em. We nuked the Japs to SAVE American soldiers lives. Think man.

jdieter
Why don't you just go over to these places and look these children in the eyes and tell them they deserve to die because they are forced to live in countries where terrorist reign, not because they did anything to deserve their oppression, just because you feel they don't deserve freedom or the right to live in freedom.

Vote Third Party?
Voting for a third party in this kind of an election is the same thing as saying;
"Ok, Whatever you other guys decide!"
You know the third party has no prayer and you are agreeing to accept whatever the majority vote for.

And I am a GREAT example of the consequence.
I voted for Ross Perrot and got Clinton!

jdieter
That exactly what we want nuclear wars! You are a dangerous man.

What! Wasted Vote?
Clinton signed 9 out of 10 of the Republicans contract with America. We got a balanced budget and welfare reform. 22 million people kicked off welfare. Federal agencies CUT. Employees FIRED!
The Government thinks YOU LIKE a big huge nanny state controlling every tiny detail of your life - because YOU KEEP VOTING FOR IT! So who's wasting their vote? They guy who votes for what he wants, or the guy who votes for what he doesn't want?

Look the children in the eye...
My contention is, that far FEWER children would have been killed had we simply nuked Afghanistan.
Didn't you read the post about "we dropped the bomb on Japan to cause LESS death and suffering."
I can't stand fear mongers. I'm outta here.

Teddy Kennedy
Liberal dribble..."we can't force our views on others in other parts of the world"
Translation- they don't deserve our help in becoming free democratic governments.

Our George is a genius...
Bush, that is. Ya'll still think he does not know what he is doing. Well, I hate to spoil the fun...here it is...if the repubs do not take the majority this week...that's OK..and I think it is what the leaders are hoping for. We will have the dems for the next two years..to scew things up as usual...then in '08 we get a chance to put the grownups back in charge. So, my thinking is to let the dems have this...keep them busy playing with themselves...ROVE IS A GENIUS, I will believe that to my dieing day.

jdieter
Don't let the door hit you in the a$$ as you run out of here.

In this war Republicans aren't our enemy
I am incredibly disillusioned, disappointed and disgusted with the Republicans in the House and Senate. They appear to be unable or unwilling to pursue the agenda they were elected to enact. Over the last two years the Republican side of the aisle has been characterized by a lack of clear direction in virtually every area of their oversight.

I used to be optimistic about the Republicans after the 1994 Contract with America and their seeming determination to draw a clear distinction from the national Democratic Party. They appear to have forgotten those things in the intervening dozen years.

Here’s the tough part; what is the alternative? The other party is NOT an acceptable alternative. Democrats are a reprehensible party populated by an unprincipled group of unpatriotic socialists. They are so deluded by their hatred of our President that they are willing to believe any number of wacky conspiracy theories about the war and/or the Bush administration. Their irrational beliefs should disqualify them from any position of prominence or power.

We are presently in a war and our finest and brightest young men and women are bravely toiling in harm’s way. So sitting this election out is not an option. How should we then respond?

I can only speak for how I and my family will respond. We will, unenthusiastically, be voting Republican. After the election we are going to go to work to reclaim the core principles both political parties have abandoned. If I were in the military, I think that’s what I would want my fellow Americans to do.

While the Republican dilemma in 2006 is similar to the dilemma faced in 1992 in the aftermath of Bush 41 which resulted in the Perot – Clinton debacle, these are much more serious times with much higher stakes. Our country’s most valuable resources are now on the battlefield in the war on terror. Would we want Bill Clinton in the office of President right now? Do we want Nancy Pelosi in any line of succession to that office right now? For my family, the answer to both questions is a resounding no.

Nuke?
Nukes have fallout that harms unintended victims.
We have more horrible weapons that are easy to confine to the target country.

For instance;
EVERY ONE OF OUR ENEMIES have an ongoing shortage of food. Using plain old Agent Orange to destroy furtile regeons would kill just as surely and render that area unfit for humans for DECADES.
Those people already KNOW & FEAR hunger.
Make a good example for the next enemy?

Values voters??
Who ARE those guys anyway? They can't be conservatives...we've never gotten value for our vote from the Republican party.

Hmmmmm....they must be Dems...that party knows which side of their bread is buttered and who buttered it, and always produce for their supporters..or at least make the effort.

Yep, thats it...

I am sick!
And like killing children! Thanks for your kind words. You argue on the one hand FOR the war in Iraq, but whine about the proposition that nuking Afghanistan would have stopped all the Muslim violence for ever. You are willing to kill a thousand marines to save 10 enemy children. My nephew is a Marine and he would gladly give his life to save an enemy child. While the enemy straps bombs to their children, we give them medicine.
You haven't made a logical argument to counter my proposition that fewer lives would be lost had we nuked Afghanistan.

MyOpine ??
So, it is more humane to kill them by starvation? Well, as long as every other Country gets the message that their entire society will be totally destroyed if they don't start arresting terrorists, I'm for it.

Wake up: Bush is not a Conservative
This is about the twelfth column that I've read on this "Please forgive us and Vote Republican" theme. Don't you guys have any principles?

Republicans have had six years of total control and chances to make things work better. In that time I have not heard any mention of a balanced budget admentment or a term limits amendment. Whatever happened to the Contract With America. I think that we "fiscal conservatives" and "smaller government conservatives" were conned in 1994 by the Republicans.

These "Republican" columnists have been either supporting or making excuses for an incompetent Bush Administration for six years. And the Republican Congress has been guilty of aiding and abetting Bush's anti-conservative agenda for its entire six years. This includes record spending growth, record budget deficits, record numbers of special interest earmarks, record numbers of no-bid contracts to favorite cronies, record numbers of guilty pleas for congressmen and their aides, record numbers of jobs outsourced overseas, record numbers of illegal immigrants, and record trade deficits.

Then there are the expensive and inefficient new LBJ-type programs such as No Child Left Behind, and Medicare Drugs. Then there is the incompetent and wasteful response to Katrina. Then there is the record spending and record stupidity associated with the Iraq debacle -- the bull of the Bush Administration's white elephant herd.

Under Bush, discretionary, non-miltary spending went up twice as fast as under Clinton. I don't know many true conservatives who still think that Bush is really conservative. He is certainly not a "fiscal conservative" or a "smaller government conservative".

I think it is time to see how our government works when Congress actually acts as a check and balance to an out-of-control Executive Branch. That is what the founding fathers wanted.

Every election
They tell me how "high the stakes are".
The Democrats DO exactly the same things Republicans DO. Of course they "say" all these things to scare you into thinking there is a difference between them. You should read what you are saying about Democrats. The only reason Democrats say all these stupid things is because their voters are stupid.
They don't actually do anything that Republicans don't agree to. See, the way it works, is that the House VOTES on bills. Yes. I'll bet you didn't know that. The majority party doesn't get everything it wants. It needs minority party votes to get anything done. So, therefore EVERYTHING the Government does is done by Democrats AND Republicans agreeing on it. Then they go outside in front of the cameras and claim they are against what they just voted for.

Fight the war...
Like we want to win it...if thats what jdieter is saying I totally agree. No more mister nice guy...no more 'winning the hearts and minds' before we win the fight...If killing them all is what it takes to save the live of even one American fighting man, then I say lets get to it.

Unhinged Republicans/Conservatives
As a Democrat reading some of these comments, one has to wonder about the sanity/stability of repub/con posters in Townhall.

Here's another part to the series:

"Unhinged Repubs/Cons"

"Democrats are a reprehensible party populated by an unprincipled group of unpatriotic socialists. They are so deluded by their hatred of our President that they are willing to believe any number of wacky conspiracy theories about the war and/or the Bush administration. Their irrational beliefs should disqualify them from any position of prominence or power."

"Setting up and funding intitlement programs is a socialist (and Democrat) activity. Failing to control the border is something the Democrats do because they think the illegals will vote for them since they let them in. The Dems even support letting illegals vote and against providing identification to prevent voter fraud."

"But I can't for the life of me accept that there will actually be any improvement in the size or direction of government should the Democrats not only gain control of the Congress but, God forbid, the White House also."

Actually, 'values voters' is a media coined phrase used to talk about 'christian conservatives, with out useing the word ''Christian...

How do you know what Dems want? Re the war, the vast majority of Dem politicians voted FOR the war and every single appropriations bill.
The bottom line is that the Government is run by both Democrats and Republicans. They soend 2.7 trillion last year, and the deficit grew by 3 trillion. That's almost 36 million dollars a day every day of the year, dripping off of ever single congressman.
STOP VOTING FOR THEM! Vote Libertarian or Constitution or write your own name in. Or Bozo.
But please, stop sending them the message that you LIKE them spending 37 million dollars a day each, and that you LIKE communist central planners running every tiny detail of your life from cradle to grave.
They are ALL Torries.

Boozer - did you vote in the primarys?
THAT is where you take our your anger on an incumbent. NOT THE GENERAL ELECTION. To argue otherwise is insipid. Lambasting anyone for not having 'principals' is to strain the gnat and swallow the camel. My guess - like all "conservatives" advocating your position - you're another D seminar troll. Which leads to a related question, but why are all (D)em tactics totally depraved and scummy? Is there a conservative equivelant? They are the party of vote fraud, gerrymandering, disinformation, engineered media surprises, storied non-stories, and wholesale BS. I mean, what kind of sick pinhead could consider voting for THAT? R's have definite issues, but anyone who can't see the clear cut difference (failure of leadership vs. total moral and ethical depravity) is just flippin' blind...there is no help for these people.

The third party vote is null because it goes for one of the two either Rep. or Dem. You screwed up in your Primaries and now you have to pick from the lesser of two evils.

Boozer
Dems say vote for us we have never done anything wrong or immoral. We are the cough cough new party of values cough cough puk!

you see how they think
if any of you rino,s are reading this blog and and previous opinions from the libs on this blog and cant see that you have to go vote gop. you are opening the door for these kind of people to be running our country, now that scary! at least with your own party in office you have people that mostly do things the way repub. think they should be done you and i may have a problem with some of the things that they have been doing but that can be repaired by writing them calling them or e mailing them once we are in power again to vote the way we want and force them to rule like conservatives want them to. dont throw the baby out with the bath water. you have to fight for things in this world ,like the right to vote. alot of people died to give you that right and to throw it away because everything doesnt go your way is a slap in the face of freedom and those who gave there lives for you to have that freedom.

RIGHT!! Transparent isn't it. Convinced me to go GOP without a second glance.

Dear Soldiers past and present
Thank you for your service and sacrifice. We support you and we are proud of what you are doing at home and around the world. You are what America stands for.

Democrat by birth, Republican by choice
There are a lot of Democrats out there who don't realize that their values have been abandoned by their party. I know I was raised by two of them. My Dad went to his grave thinking if you were anything but a democrat you were just wrong. My Mom is still that way. I think it stems from loyalty to family. I also am loyal to the values they passed on to me, like being honest, working hard for what you want and not waiting for someone to hand it to you, that when life on earth is done I will be held to account by my creator for all I did, said and thought while on the earth. My parents taught me that my conduct would be my reputation and that my reputation would reflect my character. I learned that there is a price to pay for all of my actions.
All of these things, to me, are conservative values.

I may not always agree with the folks that are elected but I know that no that no one pleases everybody all the time. We have voices to let our likes and dislikes be known. Primary elections is when we should choose the best candidate and not try to teach them a lesson in the General Election when you will have to abandon your most basic values for those of a party that hold none of them.

I hope there are some more Democrats by birth that will become Republicans by seeing that there is a difference in the two parties.

There are a lot of cliches to describe the Republicans of whom you refer ("Cut off your nose...","...from the frying pan into the fire")

If they do not heed your warning, and their conservative friends can't convince them to do otherwise, we can only hope that a David Letterman marathon is on during election day to keep the liberals at home.

If you want to influence the GOP...
...and hopefully you do, the time to do that is during the primaries.

And if you want a greater voice, get active.

Vote:
THE MOST IMPORTANT THING YOU CAN DO FOR GOD, FAMILY AND COUNTRY

IS TO VOTE!!!

Not just when you have the time to do it, but at every opportunity that is given to you to do it.

If you do not vote, you are leaving your, and your families, fate in the hands of others. A low turnout on Election Day means that a fervent, well organized minority point of view can easily win and push this nation in a direction it might not want to go. The Iraqi people recognized this when 12 million people (almost 80% of the registered voters) faced threats of death from just such a fervent “terrorist” group and voted for democracy; a concept they didn’t quite understand but knew that its liberties would be far better than the tyranny that such a minority group would establish, given the chance.

So when you vote, make sure you know for what you are voting, and the repercussions that might result from an uninformed decision. Find time to study the issues and be committed to them before you choose. Know what groups have opinions and beliefs similar to yours and see what their recommendations on the issues are. Conversely, see what the opinions of those groups you oppose are and study their recommendations, then cast your vote wisely.

Farmer's Wife
I know for a fact there are more than two. Have faith.

Jeff
There is NO CONSTITUTION PARTY in congress now nor will there be after this mid-term election. You are voting for a democrat if you vote for the Constitution party on Nov. 7th. Can you live with that?????

Choose Carefully
Anyone can vote their emotions, fear, anger, whatever. When folks finally decide that knowledge is the true power and that when they take the time to study the issues and how all the candidates stand on them their vote will really count for something they can believe in.

TWO PARTY SYSTEM
Like it or not this is what we have in America right now. You can't change that in this election. No-votes and other party votes are asking for a very liberal left-wing democrat party for the next two years and you can thank yourselves if that happens because YOU HELPED!!

some of these posts are hilarious
'All the republicans want to do is retain power'

DUH!

What do you think the Democrats want?
Oh thats right their motives are as pure as the wind driven snow...LOL!

3rd party
I'll take a Dem Congress for a while if I have to, just to further the cause of making a 3rd party a reality for the long term. This is what you don't get in your "values voter" paranoid state. Far-left socialists also think they are "Values Voters". I love Dems and Pubs alike whining about any vote cast for a 3rd party. What does that tell us? Hey, it ain't about freedom anymore? It ain't about choice? That, for me, just about sums up the current 2-party system, and all that is wrong with it. A vote for a 3rd party is a vote for change, a vote for accountability, and a vote for the longer term health of my troubled government and the nation it holds hostage.

ARE YOUR HEADS AS EMPTY AS YOUR RETORIC??????

Two Points and Comment
Spending - Remember that for virtually every program from the President passed into law, the biggest complaint from the Democrat leaders was that it "didn't spend enough money." Which party is the home of the biggest spenders?

Social Security - A program that is fundamentally flawed must be fundamentally changed. The proposal by President Bush would have done that without scrapping the very basic principle of providing a safety net -- as did the program enacted under President Roosevelt. For those already on SS and close to retirement age, no changes would have been made. For those who preferred the present system, no changes would have been made. It was based on choice for those who wanted to participate.

The President sought bi-partisian support, the Democrats refused to help, offered no alternative programs and IMO only wanted to deny President Bush the opportunity to solve the coming problems with social security. AARP accuses the president of making cuts while ignoring the potential for increased benefits for those who would have participated. On the other hand their idea makes adjustments, which certainly in the lexicon of the left -- are cuts.

Between now and election day, I plan to look at the candidates and determine to the best of my ability (in spite of or perhaps regardless of the ads) those with principles that come closest to matching mine and vote for that candidate.

The Republician Party was formed in the 1850's to defeat slavery. There wasn't always a Republician Party until people with CONVICTIONS started voting Republician. You can help get the Constitution Party started by voting for it. Or you can reward the Republicians who are currently in power for their deplorable showing over the past 6 years by re electing them.

A "Mythical" Centrist
Prager may disparage it, but I will be voting Dem to get a check on the Republicans. I am one of the "mythical centrists" referenced above—we do exist. I believe in conservatism, but not a Christian-based brand. I WANT divided government; I WANT oversight of the Executive branch; I WANT subpoena power to root out corruption and ensure respect for rules; I WANT bipartisan consensus on important issues, rather than 51% of the people running roughshod over 49%.

The arrogance of the current Republican Party astounds me.
