Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

Conventional wisdom last week decreed that President-elect Barack Obama had done such a fine job culling his Cabinet that only one pick -- Attorney General-nominee Eric Holder -- would present a problem, but most likely, a surmountable hurdle.

New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson -- Obama's presumptive commerce secretary -- stepped on that happy tale when he withdrew his name from consideration Sunday in the midst of a federal corruption probe.

Back to Holder.

Inside money would bet that Republicans will use Holder's Jan. 15 Senate confirmation hearing to grill him on his role in President Bill Clinton's notorious last-day-in-office pardon of fugitive gazillionaire Marc Rich. Rich, you may recall, had been hiding in Switzerland (while his wife had been donating generously to Clinton causes) as he evaded copious charges for fraud, evading more than $48 million in taxes, racketeering and trading oil with Iran in violation of a U.S. embargo. It was then-Deputy Attorney General Holder who gave Clinton cover when he told Clinton that he was "neutral leaning positive" on the Rich request for a presidential pardon.

With that big target on his chest, Holder is not the person you would expect Obama to pick to serve as America's top lawman. But Obama said he chose Holder because he is "deeply familiar with the law enforcement challenges we face -- from terrorism to counter-intelligence; from white-collar crime to public corruption." Too true.

A story in the Hartford Courant on Dec. 28, 2008, however, suggests that Holder has more than the Rich pardon to regret. Holder also will have to account for his role in the 1999 Clinton pardons of 16 Puerto Rico independence terrorists, most of them members of FALN, the Spanish acronym for Armed Forces of National Liberation, which staged some 130 bombings in the United States from 1974 to 1983.

Why did Clinton remit fines or commute the prison sentences of convicted terrorists? Cynics believe that Hillary Rodham Clinton's novice run to represent New York in the U.S. Senate was a motivator. Clintonia denies it, although Hillary Clinton did meet with advocates for these self-styled political prisoners.

The Courant story notes that four of the 16 pardonees were convicted for their role in a $7.2 million robbery of a West Hartford bank in 1983.Yet: "None of the four was pressed by the Justice Department to provide information on the whereabouts of the never-recovered money or three participants in the robbery, including Hartford native and inside man Victor M. Gerena. Such pressure is a common precondition for amnesty."

What's more, none of the 16 had applied for a pardon, because they refused to acknowledge U.S. authority.

Holder, who oversaw the Office of the Pardon Attorney, met with advocates for the prisoners at least nine times. The first Clinton pardon attorney recommended against a pardon. The second pardon attorney recommended neither for nor against clemency.

A month later, Clinton commuted their sentences as the prisoners re-leased a statement, suggested by Holder, that supported "a just and dignified solution to our colonial problem." It also noted that in liberation processes, there are "innocent victims" on all sides.

Rich and the Puerto Rican political prisoners have two things in common: They were clearly unrepentant; and they were so well connected politically that they got out of jail free anyway.

Former New York prosecutor James Comey wrote to the Senate Judiciary Committee that the outrageous Rich pardon "may actually make" Holder a better AG "because he has learned a hard lesson about protecting the integrity of that great institution from political fixers." Maybe. Or maybe Holder is the consummate political fixer.

Well.....the slide continues...........

Corruption is RAMPANT in this country.....and will be its downfall.....a rotten apple, if left alone, will rot the whole barrel....

Eric Holder's unfiness for Justice
He was also part of the regime that sent Elian Gonzalez back to Cuba. All who are involved in that travesty of justice deserve the fate to which they sent that innocent boy.

PEBO's Pick
When government, tyrants, socialists, and criminals, threaten our fundamental right to life and limb they do it in an obscure methodical method like what's happening now and even though SCOTUS tossed us a bone with Heller don't become complacent.

The nomination of Eric Holder is a glimpse of what's yet to come as the current SCOTUS members get set to retire or due to health step down. Eric Holder is known as anti gun as well as for freeing (helping to) FLA terrorists and pushing pardons for Criminals in Billy Boy Clinton's exit from the oval office.

When the case against Miller went before SCOTUS back in 1939 it was won only because the bootlegger and his attorney didn't show up to fight it. THAT WAS THE BEGINNING TO THE END!
When the bonus marchers went to Washington in the middle of the depression to ask for their government to give them their military service bonus' early at a reduced amount, they were met by McArthur, Patton, and, Eisenhower in tanks and on horseback with sabers and pistols who burned out of their shanty town and some died.

The '68 gun ban and others are slowly eating our rights away. Despite the socialist elects lip service that he respects the 2nd Amendment he isn't in office yet and he nominated Eric Holder. He might as well have brought back Janet Reno or Sarah Brady.

excerpt from my blog Bitter or Right?

Yes, yes
Make your stand here conservatives, please! This is a major issue which should hold up government! The people will understand.

Now Paneta for CIA
And Reid and the usual suspects refuse to seat Burris (the only black Sen.), but Chucky (the sequel) Schumer says Franken has clearly won MN. He'll be a real impartial adjudicator on the Sen. Judicial Committee, if Franken's *election* gets to the floor.

Remember, Nancy Pelosi said the Dem. Congress would be the most ethical ever. And the ec. has crashed ever since the Dems. have been back in control. Ethics. That's exactly what Clinton said of his admin. in 1992.

And no *stimulus*--it's just another debt we'll pay next year and for centuries. Reps. should just say, "No" and let the MSM whine. Gov't does not solve fiscal problems. All the problems now come from gov't rules, regulations, manipulations of the private sector, Fannie/Freddie/the CRAs, paybacks for election promises, and the idiot belief in outmoded and archaic ec. theory called Keynesian.

Attorney General from hell.
Holder will help Obama destroy our constitution. If he is confirmed the country will never be the same. If the Republicans don't fight this one they are complete idiots.

Pick your battles wisely.

Like it or not. The average american voter is not politically aware.

They don't know the connection between Sen. Frank Church (D) Idaho, who gutted the CIA. They don't know how Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton crippled the FBI. They don't know that Bill Clinton refused to meet with his CIA director. They don't know how Sen. Robert Torrecelli (D) NJ, handcuffing the CIA. They don't know about Janet Reno's incompetence in dealing with terrorism. The Liberal media certainly is not going to tell them.

This is not 1941. One 9-11 is not enough for today's disengaged voter. One 9-11 is not enough for blind faith in the executive branch.

Unfortunately the nation will require 1 or 2 more attacks killing in the hundreds before the country will wake up and understand the threat.

With the appointments of Eric Holder at Justice and Leon Panetta at CIA, more attacks will come.

The buck stops with Bill Clinton
If President Bush took back one of his pardons, Bill Clinton could have done the same thing. Eric Holder can only recommend pardons. It was up to Bill Clinton to approve or disapprove. It was said Bill Clinton reads everything. No one pulls anything over the head of Bill Clinton. If there's one thing we have come to know about the Clinton's is that there are no donations they don't like. You can bet the donations of Marc Rich outweigh the recommendations of Eric Holder in Bill Clinton's decision to pardon him.
