Was the Copenhagen Global Warming Summit Walk-Out a Win for the U.S.?

Barack Obama has waged a brilliant, disciplined campaign for the White House. To the extent that Obama's campaign demonstrates his strategic and organizational abilities, the junior Illinois senator has the potential to be a great leader. The son of a Kenyan father who came to Hawaii for a university education, Obama can claim a personal story that makes him, as former Secretary of State Colin Powell put it, "a transformational figure" in American politics.

Having opposed the war in Iraq before it began, Obama never had to gin up phony excuses for voting to authorize the use of military force in Iraq -- as did four of his Democratic primary election opponents, including his running mate, Joe Biden. He had the cleanest slate of all the Democratic presidential hopefuls, and thus appeared as the candidate most consistent with his party's values.

Yes, he is impressive, but here are my problems with Barack Obama:

Taxes: During the last presidential debate with GOP opponent John McCain, Obama repeatedly claimed that under his plan, the rich would pay "a little more" in taxes.

A little more? Obama has proposed increasing the top tax rate to 39.6 percent from 35 percent. He also has talked about extending Social Security taxes on those with incomes above $250,000. The Tax Policy Center noted that if Obama carried through on the idea, which is not included in his official plan, "the proposal could raise effective tax rates on labor income for high earners above 52 percent (and more than 55 percent for residents of states with high income taxes such as California)."

The Tax Policy Center also estimates that, under Plan Obama, 49 percent of Americans will not pay federal income taxes. So when Obama talks up his plan to send a $500 to $1,000 "rebate" to American taxpayers, he is talking welfare. And if half of American voters don't pay income taxes, then what is to stop them from raising taxes on the half that does? So much for Obama's 30-minute television commercial calling for a "new era of responsibility."

Iraq: When Obama talks about Iraq, he usually focuses on the $10 billion spent in Iraq each month that could go to domestic spending, not on the more than 4,100 U.S. troops who have made the ultimate sacrifice on foreign soil. Will Obama decide that he can leave Iraq even if it collapses -- then wash his hands and toss the blame to George W. Bush, as he has done for the last two years?

Afghanistan: Then how much support will there be for the war in Afghanistan when it costs $5 billion a month?

He's no moderate: In 2005, Obama could have joined the Gang of 14 -- the group of seven Democrats and seven Republicans (including McCain) who worked out a compromise to successfully limit judicial filibusters -- but he didn't. In his memoir "The Audacity of Hope," Obama explained his decision thus: "Given the profiles of some of the judges involved, it was hard to see what judicial nominee might be so much worse as to constitute an 'extraordinary circumstance' worthy of filibuster." Moderate? Hardly. Obama even voted opposite 78 senators who confirmed the nomination of Chief Justice John Roberts.

Results don't matter: Obama served on the board of directors of the Chicago Annenberg Challenge from 1995 to 2002. The challenge spent some $49 million to reform Chicago public schools -- with nothing to show for it. According to a 2003 audit, "There were no statistically significant differences between Annenberg schools and non-Annenberg schools in rates of achievement gain."

In his first memoir, "Dreams from My Father," Obama writes about his days as a community organizer and of his efforts to fight inner-city crime and improve public housing. He barely addresses whether a project met its stated goal of reducing crime or improving housing. To him, the effort worked if participants felt good about being organized.

The pander problem: You see it in his call for a 90-day moratorium on housing foreclosures -- which he rightly scoffed when Hillary Rodham Clinton first proposed it. Sounds good. Who cares if it works? Ditto his promised 5 million "green-collar" jobs.

One-party rule: With Democrats running the House and Senate, an Obama White House threatens to bust the budget, just as one-party rule bloated federal spending from 2001-2006 with Republicans in charge of both Congress and the executive branch. Already Obama's proposed stimulus package has grown from $60 billion to $175 billion, while D.C. Democrats now are talking about a $300 billion package. See what happens if he is elected.

If those are the policies one favors sur
If you think that currently the wealthy are over burdened, and the problem in Iraq is that we have not done enough, then you probably should not vote for Obama.

My guess is that Obama will do fine by getting the voters who favor his policies.

It is not clear why a moderate should favor giving Bush a free hand with supreme court nominations when Bush did not appoint anything but people who had proven themselves to have doctrinaire conservative voting records. The result of the group of 14 plan was not likely to produce moderate nominees, so why is it a measure of moderation to be a part?

There's more
Obama would raise taxes on those making >$250K (in his infomercial, he said >$200K). Of the 8 million making >$250K, 4.6 million are small businesses. Now, small business provides 70% of U.S. jobs. He would also have high corporate taxes (second highest among developed nations) and his individual tax rate (I see estimates of 56%) would be similar to Norway and Sweden. Then, he would renegotiate trade agreements based on social issues. Notice that all new revenues would go to funding his programs, none to reduce the national debt. Can you think of a set of policies that could slow the economy more?

More taxes...
You left out the fact that the Bush tax cuts from 2001 and 2002 will expire in 2010. BHO has not intention of renewing them. By default this is a huge tax increase for ALL taxpayers.

He mentioned his intention for this in the Primaries, but I've noticed that no one has really asked him about it in terms that it would be a tax increase, one that he is choosing to put on all taxpayers.

YAY! More taxes.....didnt our forefathers start this country trying to get away from heavy tariffs and religious oppression, et. al.?

Debra

Are you kidding me? Debra! The Democrats are going to blame Bush for years to come over their failures and stupid media and media lemmings let them! Including conservatives! Truth need not apply here. Critical thinking skills need not apply here.
Education? What in the heck is that? Far too many people are absolutely clueless about how their government actually works.

A Small? Obama Problem to Add
Apart from taxes, there is the minor matter of Obama seeing the judicial system as an agent of income redistribution. While he seems to grasp that this was not "unfortunately" included in the Constitution, this was after all an imperfect document conceived in the pre-Obama universe without the benefit of his "intellectual rigor" as Colin Powell is pleased to refer to it.He, of course, promises to remedy this by nominating judges whose "hearts" he has examined. What utter crap

lon
Obviously you don't think the wealthy what ever that means are overburdened. Isn't it interesting how Obama does everything he can to keep his taxes as low as possible. It is so obvious that you are passionately in love with Obama. Just go with your friends from acorn and try to vote as often as possible and leave everyone here alone. Except don't try it at my polling place because I will be waiting for you. It is disgusting to even think you live in the same state as me.

OBAMA'S "ORGANIZATIONAL ABILITIES"
He is just a puppet with Axelrod pulling the strings

Obama's organizational abilities
were evidenced when he couldn't even put two sentences about his healthcare platform together when his teleprompter went down at a Town Hall meeting this summer. Obama and his leftist illuminati rhetoric are going to make American unrecognizable.

Rich ARE overburdened Lon
"If you think that currently the wealthy are overburdened,"

Lon; who carries the largest moneybags? I say wealthy Americans are carrying most of the cash. If they didn't have money, how could they invest in the American economy? If the Obama plan for that wealth is to confiscate it, then the money isn't invested in our economy. He defeats a recovering economy, One.

The same economy would have provided jobs for Americans; which now are lost to them and the struggling economy. Jobs are lost, Two.

If the wealthy can keep more of their own money; they'll invest in the stock market. By taking that money then, Obama not only costs us jobs and hurts the anxious economy; he also takes venture capital away from the markets. This, together with his higher capital gains taxes, sends investors OUT of our stock market into foreign markets. Again we lose jobs, and more folks will require relief. Three!

It's easy to see Obama will be finished after one term, since his effect on our society would prove disastrous. We can only pray global terrorism won't strike that society as well.

Then; come 2012; look for Sarah Palin to win the White House and fumigate it. That makes FOUR.

It's altogether better if we elect McCain/Palin; save the economy and jobs; not have to fumigate the White House, and make tons of cash at lower tax rates playing the greatest bull market in American history and giving ALL Americans a larger burden of wealth!

VOTE for McCain and Palin, 2008!

Sensible Debra Saunders...
We are not allowed to ask hard questions of the "Dear Leader" - he knows what's best for us mere rubes.

Personally, I am very skeptical of his place of birth, I think it was Kenya and his mother shuttled him quickly to Hawaii, where she and her parents lived at that time.

Therefore, he is not eligble to even run for President.

Heres what we do know about Obama.
Subject: Heres what we do know about Obama
We do know he has never held and executive position.

We do know he has never had to balance a budget.

We do know he is a lawyer by profession.

We do know he broke his word on public campaign financiing.

We do know he misled us about his relationship with A.C.O.R.N.

We do know he misled us about his relationship with Rev. Wright.

We do know he misled us about his relationship with William Ayers.

We do know he Pal's around with people who hate Israel.

We do know he Pal's around with people who hate America.

We do know he is endorsed by people who hate america.

We do know he says U.S. Troops are killing innocent civilians.

We do know he has pledged to reduce the size of the Military.

We do know he votes "present" on tough issues.

We do know he has voted raise taxes on people making $42.ooo a year.

We do know he believes in using the force and power of the federal government to re-distrbute wealth.

We do know he has voted for un-restricted abortions.

We do know he has opposed lowering the cost of energy.

We do know he has spent 1 million dollars a day in "Ear Marks" for everyday he has been in the Senate.

We do know his voting record in the Senate is the most Liberal.

We do know if elected, he will appoint liberal Judges who support, taking property from homeowners under "Eminant Domain", going soft on violent criminals, going soft on corrupt businesses.

We do know his supporters are registering convicted felons.

We do know if elected, the Liberal Democrats will control The House, The Senate, and Executive Branhes of Government.

We do know he supports the "European Model" of democracy where they now have 12% un-employment, $8.00 gallon gasoline, High taxes, slow growth, weak military.

OBAMA PLAN IS A PEANUT BUTTER AND JELLY
EVER HOUSE HOLD WILL BE GIVEN A PEANUT BUTTER AND JELLY SANDWHICH!HE SAYS YOU GET NO GUN RIGHTS NO RECPECT FOR THE UN-BORN,HE MOCKS THE BIBLE!

Who's the culprit?
Sure, Obama can't be trusted. If he knew what he was doing it could be slightly different, but he doesn't. But, his loose strategy is to move money away from the workers to the idle.
Yet, he was elevated by the DNC, who supported his candidacy to the detriment of Hillary Clinton. I believe the powers atop the DNC now were frightened of losing their positions to Bill Clinton, should Hillary have prevailed. They could deal with Obama, because he'd give anything to sit in that Oval Office. He was chosen.
So, I cite the DNC for pushing Obama to his position now, for failure to vett him properly to the degree that he's never produced a legitimate birth certificate qualifying him as born in the USA. So, not only do I cite the DNC for that failure, but its flagrant disregard for our Constitution. Is it any wonder that Obama would evidence the same contempt for our Constitution? He's already criticized this document drawn up by masters because it doesn't define what the government must do for the citizenry.Obama knows better than the Founding Fathers! While John Kennedy said "Ask not what your country can do for you," Obama will ask what the country can further do with his constituency of So. Chicago first in mind.
He calls for "redistribution of income" which is basically what black leaders have tried to foist on this nation by calling for reparations.
I'll bet the farm Obama's not concerned about those folks in Appalachia! So. Chicago, Detroit, Phila.,Baltimore,LA, these are Obama's targets and the money will come from tax increases. And, don't believe it'll be only on the richest, not with the amount of money projected in his favorite programs. Not possible.

Don't Forget
The punk says our Constitution has a huge blind spot, and he will fix it.

Arrogant sob has built NOTHING his entire miserable life, yet says he knows better than the founding fathers how to build a nation.

Cannot put into words how much I loathe that socialist turd.

Obama's Peanut Butter Sandwich

Obama is very proud he shared his peanut butter sandwich with another student and rightfully so.

I wonder if he would have been this proud if the teacher ordered him to share half his sandwich with other students.

Bravo
Well done. This is one of the first credible critiques I've seen on Obama: taxes, lack of results, partisanship, question of single-party rule. I have been so exhausted this campaign season by the lame/untrue criticisms coming from our party: tire gauges, he listens to Palestinians too (God forbid), he's a "socialist", ties to people from thirty years ago. Why is it that only now, four days before the election that we get this kind of sober assessment; nevertheless it will be drowned out by the blithering idiots who are now running our party and have trouble forming an honest, intelligent argument based on facts.

Don't Waste our time
>We do know he Pal's around with people who hate Israel

Ken- This is the election for the United States. If Obama "pals around" with people who hate Kazakhstan, Cambodia, or the UK, I could care less. Once this election is over, the party will be fumigated and the neocons and theocons are history. If you don't learn to put America's interests first, or have trouble understanding the founder's admonition against entangling alliances, you need to find yourself another party.

One line from the History Channel..

"What happens over there, matters over here."

Like it or not Europe has gotten us into two big wars.

Asia has gotten us into Viet Nam.

Iraq got us into the Middle east.

Africa has gotten us into Somalia and soon Darfor.

Isolationism doesn't work. I too wish it did but it doesn't.

MY QUESTION
.
Do not buy the line posted often at Townhall that "we are already half socialist."

To debunk this dangerous and dishonest lie, think of:

FREEDOM OF SPEECH
Half-gone?!

NO.

But if it were to go,
IT WOULD BE COMPLETELY GONE.

IGNORE the "siren calls" of the socialists!
____________________________
SOoooo, just for fun, why don't we ask Obama:

Whether it would be reinstating "The Fairness Doctrine" or your THUGOCRACY muzzling individuals with lawsuits and threats thereof, which half of "Freedom of Speech" would you leave standing?!

Say what?
Barrack Obama is neither brilliant nor impressive. He is a diabolical schemer who is trying to strong-arm his way into the White House. I pray enough sensible Americans can see this clearly and will turn back his effort on Nov. 4. I wish all consservative pundits would refrain from using such positive qualifiers to describe this socialist, illuminati, empty-suited little windbag.

It Obama is brilliant...
...why won't he released his records from the colleges he attended?

Questions about Obama
The article still paints this B.O. candidate in a more positive light than he deserves.

First, there's a serious lack of positive character traits. One example: B.O. keeps droning about change in a very superficial way but every time that details are demanded they are wrapped in smoke and mirrors calculated to obfuscate and not enlightened until he trips on his own tongue and the truth comes out as the episode with Joe the plumber. This tells me B.O.’s modus operandi is to deceive and that’s no person I want as president.

An important value that is linked to character that you want in a president is patriotism, enlightened patriotism as envisioned by our Fore Fathers. As an example: The ABC buffoons asked Sarah Palin if Nobama was less patriotic than McCain after some remarks she had made earlier which seemed to question B.O.’s patriotism. Palin answered in a neutral manner; otherwise she would have been pilloried by the MSM. The truth is that there is no comparison. McCain’s family history alone puts him ankles and above the pretender. With McCain’s honorable service and time as a POW followed by years of more honorable service in the Senate the Nobama pipsqueak doesn’t reach McCain’s little toe.
