Was the Copenhagen Global Warming Summit Walk-Out a Win for the U.S.?

In politics, everyone wants to be seen as a mudslinging virgin -- who, like King Lear, is "more sinned against than sinning." Toward that end, Democrats have crafted the conceit that Republicans are attack dogs, while Democratic candidates are not sufficiently ruthless. After years of calling President Bush every name in the book, the left nonetheless manages to see itself as the victim in the smear game.

Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama knows how to play to that conceit. In a speech before a Veterans of Foreign Wars gathering in Florida on Tuesday, Obama went into woe-is-me mode as he responded to Republican candidate John McCain's criticism of Obama's opposition to the successful U.S. troop surge in Iraq.

"One of the things that we have to change in this country is the idea that people can't disagree without challenging each other's character and patriotism," said Obama. "I have never suggested that Sen. McCain picks his positions on national security based on politics or personal ambition. I have not suggested it, because I believe that he genuinely wants to serve America's national interest. Now, it's time for him to acknowledge that I want to do the same."

Poor baby. To hear his lament, you'd never guess that Obama repeatedly has argued that McCain picks his positions out of ambition. Obama recently told a group, "The price (McCain) paid for his party's nomination has been to reverse himself on position after position."

You've read the stories about McCain's ad mocking Obama as a Paris Hilton-like celebrity. But the media have barely reported on the Obama spot that hits McCain for playing the "same old Washington games." And in case you missed the "old" part -- the phrase appears in big letters. NBC Political Director Chuck Todd reported that Team Obama has run a "stealth" negative ad campaign, by placing ads in key markets without first alerting the media.

Oh, and while the Democratic National Committee produced a spot lampooning "Exxon John," ABC reported that Exxon Mobil Corp. execs have donated more money to Obama than McCain.

On a conference call Wednesday, Obama surrogate Richard A. Clarke called McCain "reckless" and "trigger-happy," while surrogate Susan Rice attacked McCain's Karl Rove-style "gutter" politics.

A spate of e-mails linked McCain to an "associate" of convicted uber-lobbyist Jack Abramoff. So who was this associate? Ralph Reed -- the former Christian Coalition director, who fell from grace after news reports that Abramoff had funneled gambling money to Reed. And how was McCain, who had held hearings to investigate Abramoff, "cozying up" -- as Team Obama wrote -- to Reed? It turns out Reed sent out an e-mail encouraging donors to attend a McCain fundraiser.

Pretty flimsy stuff -- and from the campaign that bristled when others tried to link Obama to the Rev. Jeremiah Wright, who crafted the phrase that became the title of Obama's book, "The Audacity of Hope."

And please, don't bring up the "swiftboating" of 2004 presidential nominee John Kerry -- not after Obama met with billionaire T. Boone Pickens and pooh-poohed the very notion that he should address Pickens' $3 million support for the Swift Boat group. As Obama said, "You know, he's got a longer track record than that."

Hey, I'm game. In the play of politics, campaigns hurl accusations at each other, but only the good stuff sticks, and only then because something about the charge resonates with voters.

So when I hear Democrats complain that McCain did not stay in a "cone of silence" before the Saddleback Church event, it means McCain won the exchange. It couldn't be that McCain won because he does frequent town hall meetings, and he's heard all the questions before -- and he has good answers. No, it has to be because he cheated.

The left then whines that the right plays hardball, and the right excels at slinging mud -- blind to the fact that both sides have able mudslingers, but only one side has champion poor losers.

And when the Democrats can't come up
with any good arguments, they go running back to the "Fairness Doctrine," in an effort to silence opposing views. Same old-same old.

O'Vomit is only doing what
the Democraps do best....lying.

Come on, let's cut the guy some slack
Hey guys... he is doing the best he can. Right now his allies in the media are trying to pair him with somebody who has more notable experience than he has. I mean, that's got to hurt a little... he isn't running for vice president you know. Right now he is coming off several weeks of sliding in the polls, he is just trying to get some footing. He is having to ward off ideas that he is a Muslim and even that he may have voted against pieces of legislation that prohibits infanticide... that's a lot of things to deal with! On top of that he is still having to stay on guard because you know as well as I do that Republicans are going to start mentioning that he is black. They are going to use that against him. He doesn't look like the other presidents on the dollar bills. Cut him some slack, because I don't know about you but such difficult issues he is dealing with are above my pay grade.

David
That was very good!

Anytime a conservative (John McCain isn't one) tells the truth about a liberal (Obama is one) then that's gutter politics! How dare those Republicans speak the truth and bring up voting records!

That's just not nice and they shouldn't be allowed. After all, good (in the libs minds) intentions is all that counts!

Tell me how that "War on Poverty" worked out, will ya?

Poor Baby Boy Obama
I don't remember a time that it took so many people to tell Americans what a man running for President was saying when we all hear what he is saying with our own ears , and they get on television and make up the biggest lies and try to compare him to Jesus in his thought pattern and radicalism on abortion as well as other things . Do they really think we can't see thru the smoke and mirrors game that Democrats have always played , this is just more spin.

Who controls the past...
...controls the future.

The Left and its annex in the Old Media are determined to control the past. They rewrite it as necessary, do their damnedest to hide the evidence, and deny vehemently that anything other than what they're currently saying, or claiming to have happened, was ever said or done. As George Will and Ann Coulter have both said, it gives liberals the "pleasure" of being perpetually surprised by reality, but far more important than that, to the extent that their deceptions succeed, they deactivate the lessons of history and leave normally well intentioned people vulnerable to the repetition of old mistakes -- sometimes fatal ones.

When an appeasement-minded Democrat faces a patriotic and resolute Republican in a national contest, the importance to the Left of deactivating the past rises to its highest heights. Obama's many attempts to escape his own past are merely evidence; the principle has been well established among leftists since long before Orwell.

Thanks, David
You gave me a great morning laugh while speaking the absolute truth!

Obama's biggest problem is that he is a whiner. You get the idea that he was the biggest tattle-tale when he was in school. Every time I hear him, I literally cringe. I just hope the majority of voting Americans want a real grown-up running the country and not some thin-skinned cry baby.

why oh why dear god
dear god. think about the possiblity of this. allow as im sure you must believe you must, those who are mostly hopelessly mired in their own darkness to stay in print , with no more than a plague of locusts on their houses.
for this author, he deserves soemthing far worse. the column is complete nonsense. but biased nionsense which could explain how he managed to get a reasonable intelligent editor to print it, looking at it from any angle think of something very special for him will you god mot of us wont complain

Good column & LOL, David
I could hear Colbert doing that as a riff.

mrb#8
After reading your post I stripped myself of all common sense, morality, courage, history and religion. I read it again and you’re completely right it didn’t make any sense from that perspective.

COUNTDOWN TO DESTRUCTION
Boy this is fun to watch the MSM's favorite son self-destruct!

Americans are waking up to a great smelling, fresh brewed cup of coffee.

Between Obalogna's comments about abortions being above his pay-grade and the proof that he'd let an aborted BABY (not fetus/embryo) born alive die.

He'd go running to his "racist" grand-mommy and hate filled wife for advice.

His association with un-renounced terrorist, weatherman, Bill Ayers and UIC not releasing documents about that association.

His questionable birth certificate, religious training and childhood citizenship.

His plan to indoctrinate kids 0-5 into his marxist cult through forced school.

His plans to dismantle capitalism

His tax increases

His National Health care monopoly

This is better than anything Hollyweird could come up with...

Reality check....either under the armpits or in politics...
BO STINKS
...of corruption and dishonesty and general moral deprivation.

I'm going to sit back and enjoy the upcoming finale..
Like in 2004..liberals sulking for weeks and months after Obalogna loses..

Dottie
Absolutely right -- Obama is Teachers Pet, Tattle Tale, Nellie Oleson, rat fink and the kid whose mother tried to bribe kids to come and play with him.

Obama is the kid who, just when the classroom conversation gets interesting, sticks up his hand and whines *Will this be on the exaaaaaam?*

Obama is my dressed-up friend Bernadette who used to come and turn up her nose at us baseball-playing girls in jeans, and get dumped off the boat dock every day and go home dripping and crying. (In later years she admitted she kind of liked that because she really wanted to be able to play with us but her mother wouldnt let her get dirty.)

And most of all Obama is the kid that all the adults loved and all the other kids hated.

Why do you want to vote for the kid for president that you hated from the time he came to your birthday party and told you that everything at his house was nicer than what you had and his Daddy was richer and his Mama was better looking and his dog was pure bred and not a mutt like yours? And it hurt your feelings until your Daddy pointed out that nobody came to play at his house and his Mama had to pay people to come to his birthday parties.

Obama is that rat fink whining kid that was always trying to get other kids in trouble.

Remember how you used to deal with kids like him?

Swiftboating?
If John Kerry were such a big war hero why didn't more of his swiftboat comrades come to his defense when he was challenged? Those who served with him knew him best and they for the most part agreed with the Swiftboat Vets for Truth. Had Kerry not made his "Reporting for Duty" statement then his war record would never had been an issue. Kerry was an anti military liberal who much like obama thinks his presence and charisma is enough to bring people together. Arrogance has no bounds.

Democrats Are The Aggessors
I have always listened to the complaining the Democrats do about Republican's and the Republican "attack machine" in complete disbelief. Do they see the same newspapers that I do? Do they watch the same evening news that I do? Democrats are the ones that are constantly invoking personal attacks, while Republican's are the one's that argue positions. I just go back to the grade school adage regarding Democrats and their complaints, "he who smelt it, dealt it".

And mrbmrb: Was you post in English? It read like those oddball emails that you occasionally receive with random words thrown together in no coherent order. Try again, please.

It pleases me to no end
that Obama's many shortcomings are FINALLY coming out. I was a "Mitten" for Romney, and really upset that he didn't get the nomination -- and conflicted whether I'd vote for McCain or not. I'm not conflicted anymore. I still don't like McCain very much, but to NOT vote for him en masse would elect this Socialist Eddie Haskell to the most important position in the world, and hurt our country deeply. I don't want that to happen, so McCain gets my vote. Hopefully, he'll make a smart VP choice, especially considering his age -- Romney, Palin or even Pawlenty.

Mom in Wisconsin

come on guys....
he's a "victim." He needs the backing of big government and Republicans are all trying to start a Theocracy, right?

mrbmrb
It was difficult, but I think that that word salad you call a "comment" was implying that this column was poorly written and that it was just bias that convinced an editor to print it. I think that's what you were saying, but your syntax, grammar, and punctuation are, well, let's just say something less than terrible.

Oh, and by the way: The author of the column, to whom you refer as "he," is a woman. Look at the picture and have someone read you the name next time. And please, go back and finish the fifth grade.

speculating
is it possible that the reason that bho hasnt announced a running mate is that anyone with any desire to ever be president has refused to participate in losing by a landslide? i predict that bho will "chose" someone who is politically destitute, consequlently feels that even a ticket to nowhere is better than no ticket at all. good luck, loser.

Get to Know the Candidates
I watched the "Get to Know ..." last night - either FOX or HNN - and found it interesting. Mac was covered the first half-hr, then Obamiac's turn.

The "good" and the "bad" of each was discussed.

Interesting about BHO's FIRST run for the Illonois Congress against an older, more experienced BLACK man. BHO lost big time, and he became angry and bitter that the voters didn't elect him. He felt personally violated that his charm and charisma that he turned to the Chicago Political Machine and got elected on the next round.

When he ran for US Senate, his Chicago machine challenged every opponent and got him elected by default.

Now, can you imagine the anger and bitterness of the Obamas (Michelle, BHO, et.al.) when he is defeated for prez?!?!?

It will be the infidels crusifying the Messiah!

Re: mrbmrb
Great name, mrbmrb. Shorthandle for Mumbler. Perfect!

Robert, as an aside to handles
I know that you are new here and frankly I am surprised that you were allowed the handle of Robert. There is a troll that posts here with complete drivel and has had many handles as he keeps breaking the rules of civility and gets banned. His first handle was Robert, his latest is Ranger29, I think. You will see his name bashed quite often as Roberto or Robert and any derrogitory discription that the poster feels is apt at that time.

Please know that it is not you that is being refered to.

B.H.O. is no reformer
B.H.O. is no reformer – he’s a gangster-style, old school Chicago hack. B.H.O. is not “The One” – he is by calculative composition a champion of his master’s agenda (Unions, Planned Parenthood, and Mr. Saros et al). B.H.O. will change our capitalist country into one, big union shop run by the Democrats; bent towards the left so far that his socialist European friends will recognize him for the Communist at heart he really is.
I do not fear him; I loathe him for the holocaust of the Unborn (and in some cases the Born) he so adamantly supports. I do not think is name is funny; I think his name speaks defiantly of his family’s murderous, African-Muslim roots.
The more his candidacy is vetted, the more we learn about the puppet-masters behind the scrim of the burka. The G.O.P. will have enormous crossover votes because we love to win, believe our country is the best the world has ever seen, and mightily disapprove of American apologists. We will elect McCain because he actually will put the country first – and has the alarming record of cavorting with Democrats to prove it. John may not have led the perfect, conservative life but no one has, eh? McCain’s life is an open book and Obama’s is shrouded in mystery, deceit, and dope.
See you at the polls!

Here's My Take On It...
They whined about the Supreme Court's decision in 2000, forgetting the fact that Dems in Florida don't know how to vote and you-know-how didn't even win his home state.

They boo-hooed about being swift-boated in 2004, and perceived voting irregularities in Ohio when there were none.

What will be their excuse this year?

Say NO! to socialism ... say NObama!

Omarxist
No offence to sheep, but Obomunists slogan should be “Change ewes can believe in”

stretching more than the truth now
Boy, this article stre--e--e--tches really desperately to try and equate Obama's criticisms of McCain to McCain's trivializing Paris Hilton commercial and his overt challenge to Obama's "ambition" (Obama doesnt call McCain "ambitious", tho McCain himself has admitted running out of pure ambition). So far the left has flung tinted water compared to the mud from the right. So far....

And "Slowpoke"--its kind of ironic, don't you think, an AMERICAN calling AFRICANS 'murderous'? Never mind our own genocide of Africans via slavery, but we also stand by and allow the economics of corruption and famine ravage that continent in the name of access to natural resources.

Great Article!! KUDOS
Isn't it interesting how angry the annointed BO gets when all that is being brought up is his record? I can't believe that he is calling Republicans liars for bringing up his record of infanticide by being the only one to vocally oppose saving the life of babies who survived abortion - simply because the history was not established constitutionally. The DNC must be trembling in fear at the severity of the "nuanced" BO's latest gaffe. Just what is BO thinking? How dumb does he think the voters must be to go along with his idiotic rants -- as well as how embarrassed the MSM must be for supporting this loser? I'm betting that the Dumbocrat convention is going to turn into a circus with perhaps Hillary getting the nod. I can hardly wait to see how this all plays out! If I were BO at this point, I would triple my security, hire a food taster and buy a flak jacket.

"David" missing the '/SARCASM' tag
My favorite part was his, "...you know as well as I do that Republicans are going to start mentioning that he is black..."!

I know Republicans have mentioned that he was Marxist.

I know Republicans have mentioned that he promotes socialist policies.

I know Republicans have mentioned that he uses Saul Alinsky methods.

I know Republicans have mentioned that he expressed numerous anti-American sentiments.

I know Republicans have mentioned that he has changed positions on many, many important issues to pander for votes.

I know Republicans have mentioned that he coddles up to terrorists and terrorist states.

...BUT "BLACK"...?!!?

well, GEE...I think THAT was ACTUALLY done almost exclusively by OBAMA, HOWARD DEAN and many other DEMOCRATS these days!

Oh yeah: and also...
...THE MEDIA

THE MEDIA

THE MEDIA

...did I mention that just about everywhere in THE MEDIA you can read that Obama would be the first BLACK president?

BET YOUR BOTTOM DOLLAR "OF COLOR" ON THAT ONE!

Uhhhhhhhhh Me a Marxist?
I remember one Marxist guy who hooked up with a Russian guy by the name of Lenin. These guys drew up a plan to get all the people in their part of the world to give everything they owned or ever hoped to own to the STATE.

Then the STATE would divvy everything up so everybody was equal! Sound familiar? Problem is there are too many American citizens know this form of governance is a miserable failure because everyone starves to death waiting in the bread lines while the heroes of the fatherland were feasting on caviar and washing it down with the best vodka the peasant could make.

Obama needs to get a job that does not require very much depth. He is not ready fro prime time.

Negative ads
I heard a poll on the radio that said Obama has run 900 negative ads attacking McCain personally as opposed to 300 negative ads by McCain. Why doesn't the GOP find this information and publicize this since Obama is always saying McCain is more negative. Its another democrat lie.

mrb's prayer
Mrb's "word salad" (by the way, nice phrase, Shrinque) was actually a prayer, petitioning God to curse the author with "something very special". Since this posting was not issue-specific and does not mention the author by name (or even by the correct gender), it can be copied and pasted into countless threads, and make just as much sense wherever it appears.

(I like to think that God appreciates irony, and that Mrb might wake up tomorrow with a "very special" surprise.)

And yet the Left says that the Right is hate-filled. On behalf of the Right, I'd like to say that I do not wish any of them any personal ill; I merely wish them perpetual defeat and the eternal thwarting of their ambition to enslave me and mine.

In example after example, you'll see the Right condemn its own for crossing the lines of propriety, while at the same time you'll see the Left applauding its own for doing the same. We reprimanded commenters who wished Sen. Kennedy harm, but much of what one heard from the Left upon similar news about Robert Novak was "yeah, and about time too!" A television pundit some years back wished an early death on Justice Thomas, but I don't recall seeing anyone do the same to Justice Ginsburg when she was battling cancer.

The Left is constantly accusing the Right of illicit activities that are eschewed by the latter and perfected by themselves. They've been doing that all my life, and the Clintons were masters at it -- until recently.

Psychiatrists call it "projection". Goebbels called it "the Big Lie". I've had enough of it, but I don't expect ever to see it stop. Pretty much all I can Hope™ for is that the "New Media" will call them on it as often as possible. That's Change™ even I can believe in.

Projecting Projection
Bush and Company have mastered the Goebbels playbook, and the only projection happening is the authoritarian right wing worrying about some vague thing they call "communism" or "socialism" that they see every time someone uses the word "justice". The neocon agenda is completely predicated on the Big Lie, and McCain was there in some crucial moments of its implementation ("New American Century".....).

If "hearing a poll on the radio" counts as evidence, there are really serious problems of rationality afoot in here. And a CRITICISM is not a personal attack. A "personal attack" ("The ONE") is a personal attack. So even if the numbers are right, they are irrelevant.

Wow....

Close, but a clean miss
"Bush and Company have mastered the Goebbels playbook, and the only projection happening is the authoritarian right wing worrying about some vague thing they call 'communism' or 'socialism' that they see every time someone uses the word 'justice'."

No sooner do I invoke it than one of them comes on and demonstrates it.

I like how we're not "the right wing", but "the authoritarian right wing". If that were a code word for enforcing our laws and suppressing crime, then it would fit. I think it's safe to presume, however, that the commenter did not intend it thus and used "authoritarian" in lieu of "fascist" because everyone now laughs at the latter.

But Jude is partially right: we do worry about Communism or Socialism, but we do it only when the usual suspects attach the adjective "economic" or "social" to the word "justice", and we are right to do so because, euphemisms aside, that is in fact what they mean.

As a rule, our federal prisons are cleaner and more humane than those of the Gulag or the Laogai, but rest assured that if you actively resist the regime of "social justice" once it controls all the levers of power, that will be your destination.

-------------------

PS: Any candidate who can utter the phrase "We are the ones we have been waiting for," and who exhorted his followers to recognize that the day he supposedly secured his party's nomination will come to be seen as the day that, among other miracles, the rising oceans began to recede, deserves to be ridiculed as "The One". Sure, McCain has gaffed along with the rest of them, but if he had said anything that stupid, wouldn't you scoff?

"Vero Possumus"? I'm still laughing.

your prejudice is showing
One more thing... Is "hearing [about] a poll on the radio" somehow less valid than seeing its results on MSNBC or reading about it in the New York Times? Are Limbaugh and Ingraham somehow inferior to Olbermann and Krugman?

What a surprise.

Charles Martel
Great posts.

"Social justice" defines the goal of equal outcome instead of equal opportunity to succeed.

"Economic Justice" describes the way of life where the recipient of largesse doesn't have to work for it. It also covers the person, like Jude, that thinks they should be paid what they want and not what they are worth.

Ayn Rand is coming back to haunt the left.

I really like it when leftists call the right wing "fascist" or "authoritarian". They never realize that the Nazi's were "The National Socialist Workers Party", the true dictatorship of the proletariat.

But the left wing keeps trying to establish that socialist nanny state indistinguishable from Germany and the Soviet Union in the late 1930's and early 1940's, all in the name of "justice".

GREAT ARTICLE!!!
Debra clearly shows the Dhimmicrat Party methodology in portraying itself as the eternal victim, while previously overlooking the dubbing of Sec of State Rice as a skeeza (whore), Colon Powell as an Uncle Tom, and President Bush as a Nazi and worse. Other examples could be cited ad nauseum. In the lockstep liberal mentality, this is fair play.

But Heaven er ah ObamaMessiahland forbid that conservatives attack the vicious babble of the left. The lack of "sensitivity" becomes a media event and is reported with ominous "gravitas" by "objective" news lemmings.

CHARLES MARTEL
BTW love your use of my illustrious ancestor's name, the victor over Jihadist armies at tours.

Some Truth
The only power that the Left has over the Right is the power the Right lets the Left have. For too long the Right has been led by cowardly eunuchs who fold at the first salvo. If the GOP jellyfish would one time stand erect, they'd see that the Left is nothing to fear.

Someday we may see a true patriotic and unapologetic rightist who will have the guts to face the rath of the Left, remain standing, and then fire back with even greater ferocity.

He, and we, would see that what the people truly want is strength, especially at a time of war or peril. All of the polls, opinions, and surveys that seem to say we want integrity, honesty, civility, inclusiveness, diversity, sensitivity, kindess, fairness, bi-partiship, and the like are frauds.

In our private moments, when we don't have to put on our false faces to the world and risk condemnation, we want strength and resolve in our leaders. We want them to slay our enemies, achieve victory, and leave us the F alone otherwise.

All other beliefs on this issue are wrong. Period. The debate is over.

Barack Hussein Obama..Useful Idiot
The lying, whining, sniveling little boy runs home to his mommie 'cause that mean old bully called him bad old names.

In real life, Barry is so disappointed because no one is calling him bad old names. He keeps suggesting what to call him and no one is picking up on it. Makes him so mad.

He made sure he shielded himself from criticism at the start. Any negative word about him was made to appear that it was because of who he is,not what his record is.

The picture gets clearer every day about what he is and who he is. That picture is not pretty.

Fascism is alive and well in USA
Unlike socialism, fascism is a system which is quite comfortable with the illusion of private ownership of businesses and other property so long as government sets all the policies and procedures. Then, when the government meddling causes disasters, the fascist voters and their representatives scapegoat the "evil" owners. Do you see anything familiar with how our government treats the oil companies, mortgage companies, the former S&Ls, etc.?

The slogan of both left and right wings of what amounts to the American Fascist Party is, "There ought to be a law..."

WORDS ABOUT PROPAGANDA
"All propaganda must be so popular and on such an intellectual level, that even the MOST STUPID of those toward whom it is directed will
understand it... Through clever and constant application of propaganda, people can be made to see paradise as hell, and also the other way
around, to consider the most wretched sort of life as paradise."

A private conversation about the gullibility of "clingers?" Could be.

Actually, it's Hitler in 'Mein Kampf.
