Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

Elizabeth Edwards complained to the Progressive magazine that antiwar critics such as Sen. Barack Obama are "behaving in a holier-than-thou" manner on Iraq. Too bad for Edwards that Obama opposed the war in Iraq in 2002, while her husband John Edwards -- as well as Sens. Joe Biden, Hillary Clinton and Christopher Dodd -- voted for the Iraq war resolution.

Holier-than-thou antiwar Democrats. Isn't that phrase redundant? Elizabeth Edwards now is more than John Edwards' wife. She has become his Spiro Agnew. Remember Agnew, President Richard M. Nixon's first vice president and designated verbal hatchet man, known famously for dismissing critics as "nattering nabobs of negativism"?

Mrs. E isn't quite as lyrical as Agnew. Recently, she told Salon.com that Hillary Clinton seemed to feel the need "to behave as a man and not talk about women's issues." Not much alliteration in that slam.

Worse, last month, Elizabeth Edwards complained: "We can't make John black, we can't make him a woman. Those things get you a lot of press, worth a certain amount of fund-raising dollars."

That's right: All Edwards has is a wife with cancer. And as fiercely as the couple tries to play that victim card, Edwards remains in third place. His RealClearPolitics poll average of 12 percent lags far behind Clinton's 40 percent and Obama's 21 percent.

Elizabeth Edwards also accused Obama of "lifting her husband's best lines" from 2004, "which is maybe not surprising since one of his speechwriters was one of our speechwriters, his media guy was our media guy." She complained that Obama is using John Edwards' rhetoric -- turning "hope is on the way" to "the audacity of hope" -- which I guess is wrong because Edwards apparently now owns the word "hope."

Every time an Edwards opens his or her trap, you can feel the desperation. And no matter how nasty they get, it can't help, because John Edwards' biggest problem is that he comes across as the biggest phony in the race.

He's the swell who charged UC Davis $55,000 -- for a 2006 speech on poverty; the self-styled populist who not only treated himself to two $400 haircuts, but also passed the tab along to his campaign; the global warming scold who built a 28,000-square-foot mansion.

Edwards is so full of himself that he doesn't do his homework. He demanded that fellow Democrats forswear contributions from Rupert Murdoch, the man behind Fox News -- oblivious to the fact that Murdoch's HarperCollins had paid him a $500,000 advance, and $300,000 in expenses, for Edward's 2006 book, "Home: The Blueprints of Our Lives."

Elizabeth Edwards disingenuously told the Progressive that when her husband voted for the war resolution, "Mostly the antiwar cry was from people who weren't hearing what he was hearing. And the resolution wasn't really to go to war. The resolution, if you recall, was forcing (President) Bush to go to the U.N. first."

That's simply not true. The resolution title was clear: "to authorize the use of United States Armed Forces against Iraq." There was no language requiring Bush to win U.N. approval.

And how does Edwards deal with a vote he now calls a mistake? At a February Democratic forum, John Edwards crowed, "I think I was the first, at least close to being the first, to say very publicly that I was wrong."

Elizabeth Edwards is trashing the front-running Democrats because her husband is trailing in the presidential primary -- and rather than take each of them on directly, he is hiding behind his wife's skirt.

Uh Oh.

Twenty posts in, and not a single defender of John Edwards [and, thankfully, just one off-subject post from a Paulbot].

I fear that our progressive friends may have woken up to the fact that Mr. Edwards is a sure-bet loser. What a shame.

One last thought
do you suppose he is hanging in there to get matching funds??? Will he be able to keep them if he later withdraws??? My opinion of trial lawyers is $$$$$$$$$$ above all else!

Sentido:
Why don't you explain how you would have handled 9/11? I'm sure you have lots of experience leading men through lethal national tragedies, so please, allow us to partake of your genius.

The Edwards Campaign
I think you could find an indication of Mr. Edwards' chances in the fact that it is his wife who makes the news, not the candidate himself.

blondie and dagwood
these two remind me of a comic book version of the Clintons. the edward are both subtle prevaricators who throw out verbal spears then run behind a tree and hide. true to the clinton tradition they triangulate then lie, lie, lie. When I see John on tv, I can see the little bubble coming out of his head saying, "Blondie, I'm home."

outer limits
Here's a man who can't even win his home state who is campainging everyday to assert his relevance. I find this very strange. He knows he can't win; he knows no one wants him as a running mate; and, I think he knows that, like billary, half of America simply detests him. He seems to be running on the idea that his tagline is 'I'm from the South, so I have relevance'. Is he thinking that billary will choose him as a running mate? Is that why he is hanging around or does he want to be rejected by America one more time?
I wrote him off when I first heard he was trial laywer.

I've heard
that having negative thoughts is not good for your body when fighting cancer. That watching funny movies and laughing releases good endorphins and that having a more positive outlook on life helps the body heal. If this is true, then Eliz E is on the road to self-destruction bigtime. Yes, I'm sorry she has cancer, but she is doing herself no favors by being the attack dog for her husband.

And last but not least, it is very off-putting for a voter to think that the man running for president of the United States of America has to have his wife fight his battles for him!

Can't imagine who would select him as their first choice.

Wondering
Have you people noticed, you never see john mark karr or john edwards at the same place, I think there something to this.
They sound the same and they both are captain high pants.

John Edward's Mouthpiece
I too am sorry about Elizabeth Edward's cancer. My mother died of lung cancer when I was 13 and my stepmother of skin cancer when I was 31. Recently my father-in-law died of stomach cancer. This dread disease has hit my family where we live. But it is truly pathetic to see her lash out against both the other Democratic candidates and the general public because her husband can't catch a break in the run for President. The people have seemingly decided that they don't want John Edwards. That's politics for you. Grow a thicker skin, get over it and move on.

question(s)
the dems' big three are Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama and John Edwards.

Are you saying that the republicans can't come up with someone better then that?

Gimme a break.

There is still a long way to go.

Elizabeth the mouthpiece
It is downright cowardly of John Edwards to use his wife Elizabeth as his mouthpiece. It would be pathetic if she didn't have cancer, but it is downright cowardly since she does.

Debra says "John Edwards' biggest problem is that he comes across as the biggest phony in the race." The reason he comes across that way is because he IS the biggest phony in the race -- and that is saying something considering how many are in the race. It is shameful that he has his terminally ill wife serving as his naysayer and public mouthpiece. It certainly shows what little character he has.

About that full head of hair...
I read somewhere that trial lawyers are supposed to have higher than average levels of testosterone - in this case it makes them scary and showy in the courtroom so they can win big bucks for their clients.

But John Edwards with his Breck Girl hair seems singularly lacking in the manly man category. Male hair loss is often (of course not always) linked to high levels of testosterone in the form of DHT - if you are losing your hair you're very likely more of an alpha male type than the guy with the full head of hair across the table. I don't know about you, but for "leader of the free world" - I vote for the guy with the least hair - Giuliani anyone? I want my leaders experienced, grizzled, scarred, seasoned veterans of the real world - not pretty boys.

For Edwards, alas, it's not just that. His wife constantly fighting his battles for him is really embarrassing all around. I feel bad for the guy. Even one of my close friends - a flamingly liberal lady who loved Edwards and supported him to the bitter end in the last campaign, admitted that her "boy" did not do at all well in his debate with Dick Cheney. Dick came off as a hardcore serious world leader who can play rough and run with the big boys. Edwards came off as an also-ran lightweight, seriously lacking in any "gravitas" whatsoever. And, the fact that she called him her "boy" always got me. I don't want a boy running this country. That's one job that really needs to be left to a man.

I am very sorry that Mrs. Edwards is dealing with cancer but I do think about the huge constraints placed on the medical community by the irresponsible actions of people like her husband. Sue enough doctors and eventually, when you need a treatment or a cure - the guy who could have found it or advanced the research was, oh gosh, too busy paying a fortune in liability insurance, settling lawsuits, and abandoning medical practice altogehter. That's too bad.

Get The Crying Towels Ready!
WAA! Elizabeth, they’re not letting me win! WAA! Elizabeth, they’re mussing up my hair! WAA! Elizabeth, DO SOMETHING! WAA! WAA! WAA!

edweirds
It is truly amazing that the dims even pay slightest attention to these adolescent whiners. Having enjoyed a career of stealing millions through questionable lawsuits they now claim they want to remake america to fit their vision. Other than act as cry baby johnnies pit bull what new ideas have they proposed. List all socialist dims they only promise more taxes and govt programs. Are the libs and the dims they support in congress so incredibly stupid that they think that after trillions have been spent on broken programs they will suddenly start owerking will additional tax dollars. If 60 billion is a starting point, why not try for 160 billion to really get things fixed. When that isn't adequate what will stop them from demanding more billions in tax dollars. Oh course once they wreak havoc on the economy tax dollars will be much harder to extort for bankrupt citizens. How do you really take anything from a mega millionaire with credibility when they claim to understand the poor and poverty

Elizabeth Edwards
unto herself is another reason not to vote for John Edwards. We don't her as a first lady. I find her juvenile and catty.

HC has now taken a thirty point lead in California. Between Elizabeth and her mouth and Barack continually sticking his foot in it they are now going down in a blaze of glory. HC was in the beginning in third place.

Regarding Elizabeth saying
that "we can't make him (J.E) a woman," well, he already is a woman. He ain't called the "Breck Girl" for nothing.

Ambulance chaser
Edwards reminds me of one of those dirtbags who promise to make you a millionare if you hire him to take your case. You know the type; "I'll turn your wreck into a check". As much as I hate to see Mrs. Edwards suffer from cancer I can't help but think how many doctors did this snake oil salesman put out of business with his bogus lawsuits. Some woman gives birth to a kid with a cleft pallet no problem call in John Edwards and he will make you a lottery winner. I find it ironic he runs all over the country spreading his two Americas gospel while living in a 28000 sq foot mansion. It is also hypocritical that he decries the lack of health insurrance while he helped create the problem himself. But now that he has his millions it's time to repent right. This clown has no business being close to the White House let alone occupying it. He can't even take on little ole Ann Coulter without calling out his wife how is he going to deal with OBL? There is a reason he is in third place and it's not because Osama Obama stole his message it's because he has no credibility. He may be able to fool a jury but not the electorate.
I am John Doe.

Joke
$55K for a speech on poverty? Must have gone like this- Send me a bag full of cash every day for the rest of your life and you will be poor, but don't worry it won't make me rich, just blessed. (Into his sleeve- HaHaHa what a bunch of suckers).

Skirt Man
"Elizabeth Edwards also accused Obama of 'lifting her husband's best lines' from 2004,"

How good could those lines be? He lost.

I'm sorry that John Edwards isn't appealing to more Democrats. I feel he's the most beatable candidate in both parties. What would he do if Ahmadinejad started in on him? Have his wife ring up Ahmadinejad on the phone and call him a big meanie? I don't like his politics but this business of having his wife being his Luca Brazzi is so unmanly. That's a big ewwwww factor in a potential President.

Don't get fooled again
As a North Carolinian, let me caution everyone to avoid Edwards. He is a shameless huckster who fooled the good people of NC into electing him Senator as a "conservative" democrat. He started running for President as soon as he was sworn in as Senator, even after promising that he was their to serve the people of NC, and had no aspirations for higher office at the time. I talked to someone in FLorida who said she was thinking of voting for him. The load groan I made put her off for a second, but she has convinced me that he can get the democratic women's votes. Hopefully, that won't be enough, and doesn't look like it will to this point, to give him any traction. Anyone who believes Edwards better have their hand on their wallet and thier watch.
