Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

A gasoline-filled device in a car bomb fails to go off. Authorities investigating another bombing incident find that after a first bomb exploded, a second bomb was timed to go off when first responders arrived. A recent event in the United Kingdom? Yes, but also in California.

Last week, the Los Angeles Times reported that a bomb was discovered outside the Westside home of Dr. Arthur Rosenbaum, the chief of pediatric ophthalmology at UCLA's Jules Stein Eye Institute. The car bomb failed to explode, despite apparent attempts to detonate it.

In 2003, two bombs exploded at biotech firm Chiron's Emeryville office. Agents believed the second bomb was timed to go off when first responders arrived.

The terrorists behind the American firebombs were not Islamic fanatics, but animal-rights jihadists bent on harming and intimidating scientists who conduct medical research on animals. They also have targeted employees of businesses that might work with researchers, as well as harassed the spouses and young children of researchers.

Americans for Medical Progress President Jacquie Calnan warned that the latest incident "marks a disturbing escalation in the tactics of intimidation and harassment."

Last year, animal-rights activists went after another UCLA researcher by placing a firebomb at her doorstep -- except that they put the bomb at the wrong home. Fortunately, that bomb, too, failed to ignite.

While the bombs did not go off, FBI Special Agent Kenneth E. Smith observed, "the devices could have detonated, resulting in significant damage."

So far, animal rights activists have not killed anyone in the United States, but that does not mean Americans should not fear these extremists. In October 2005, Dr. Jerry Vlasak, a Southern California trauma surgeon who is a leader of the North American Animal Liberation Front, testified before the U.S. Senate and defended killing researchers in order to stop research using animals.

"I don't think you'd have to kill -- assassinate -- too many," Vlasak opined. "I think for 5 lives, 10 lives, 15 human lives, we could save a million, 2 million or 10 million nonhuman lives.''

And the threats of violence and intimidation work. Last year, UCLA researcher Dario Ringach sent an e-mail to Vlasak in which he proclaimed, "You win" -- he would stop research with animals. Vlasak sent out a triumphant press release.

Vlasak told the Daily Bruin that activists had tried to stop Rosenbaum's research by appealing to UCLA administrators but had failed. "All reasonable attempts have failed, so we're going to take it to the next level," Vlasak told the student paper.

When abortion foes have harassed -- even killed -- abortion clinic workers, outrage rightly has followed. Oddly, when animal rights activists threaten and harass people who are trying to cure diseases, the silence is deafening.

When they've expanded their harassment to include people who work for targeted companies, and companies that will not pledge to not do business with targeted companies -- as Chiron refused to do -- there is little outcry.

When animal-rights activists' vandalism cowed the New York Stock Exchange so that it pulled the planned listing of Life Sciences Research -- a medical-research firm -- in 2005, the New York Times didn't bother to report it.

Now Vlasak says that animal-rights activists will move to the next level. Expect more firebombs, more harassment campaigns -- and less research. And because there is no partisan angle to this story -- no Democratic or Republican bogeyman -- there is no outrage.

Note: Saunders' husband, Wesley J. Smith, is a senior fellow at the Discovery Institute and is writing a book critical of the animal rights/liberation movement.

Animal rightists
These are the same people that would stand by and watch their children die rather than use a medicine that was tested on animals - NOT!!!!
Good nite all.
Joe

There should be support not outrage
Outrage when someone stops a babykilling with the use of force or disables a babykilling abortion mill is misplaced and is an evil response. Contrary to what you think, it is a right thing to do to protect babies from being murdered by babykilling abortinists.

The silence will continue
To be deafening on this subject. At least from the MSM.

"Animal Rights" is a favorite hobby-horse of the neo-Luddite "progressive" crowd, right up there with "No Nuclear Power" and "Death to Big Oil". It all reads back to their basic hatred of technology, Western Civilization, and incidentally the human race in general. (Other than their own very special and wionderful selves, of course.)

And since the MSM are 100% in step with "the right-thinking people", this sort of terrorism not only "falls off " their radar scope, it never gets on it in the first place.

And when one of these fanatics manages to burn down an entire lab complex, or even a university, and kill a couple of hundred people, the MSM will have one of two reactions;

1. Deny that it was anything but an "unfortunate accident"; or

2. Blame it on those stereotypical "right-wing Creationists". (Remember, they "don't believe in science".)

The MSM is, in essence, issuing the "animals first, humans do not finish" crowd a "license to kill" that 007 would envy.

After all, he at least had to restrict it to people M told him to kill. The "animists", and their enablers in the media, have no such restriction.

And I have to disagree with Ms. Saunders about there being "no partisan angle" to this. The Animal Liberation Front is not composed of GOP Steering Committee members. Here in Ohio at least, the "ALFers" are more likely to be working for Dennis Kucinich.

In between fire-bombings, that is.

Terrorism is What it is
I Suppose that since we sent a bunch of ELF's to Their Just reward up here in Oregon That they would have to move to where Enforcement is a little slacker. I will never understand why the did not move to Washington. I think that Elf's and Alf's and Little Peta's are all terrorists and if caught and convicted should be sent to Gitmo.

revspitz
Please read the post before commenting.
You said "Outrage when someone stops a babykilling with the use of force or disables a babykilling abortion mill is misplaced and is an evil response. Contrary to what you think, it is a right thing to do to protect babies from being murdered by babykilling abortinists..."

The subject was "animal rights" and the people that would have been killed by the "rights" people would have been innocents.

Maybe you posted on the wrong article.

Packrat
No, Revspitz didn't make a mistake and post in the wrong column; this is simply the mindset of people like him or her, who think justifying violence in the right cause, in his or her case, acting violently against abortionists, is justified. But, I agree, whatever his or her problem is, the subject here was not abortion. But, anti's have one track minds so they think nothing of posting wherever they can to defend their position.

Eon, You Fell For It
I have read every word of this article and all the posts trying to figure out why this is appearing on townhall, the purpose of which is to inflame the right against the left. If you think that PETA can be equated with the Democratic Party you are dead wrong. Scientists (you know, those America-hating pinko Communist terrorist-loving atheistic anti-Creationism liberal loonies) use lab animals in biological research. They are the very folks whose labs have been invaded and trashed by animal rights activists. They are the targets of animal rights terrorism. And an awful lot of them vote Democrat.

It was the NIH (National Institutes of Health) medical research campus in Bethesda, Maryland that saw a long-term outdoor encampment of PETA people about twenty years ago---this has been going on for a long time, and scientists, who tend to be politically liberal, have despised PETA for just that long. They are the ones who come to work one morning to find that seven years of work have just been destroyed overnight by an invasion of vandals who opened cages, released animals, burned lab notes, and trashed the lab.

Yes, there are environmental terrorists who set fire to new construction jobs because they're angry that the woodland was destroyed to build a subdivision---and there are animal rights activists who would kill the biologist to call attention to the fact that he uses research animals---but these are NOT mainstream Democrats. Just as there have been anti-abortion extremists who shot and killed doctors who have performed abortions---most anti-choice people would not commit murder.

So getting the right roiled up about this---and eon stepped right into the trap---is mistaken.

my 2 cents
Where I live PETA stands for

People

Eating

Tasty

Animals.

And I have the t-shirt to prove it.

Animal Rights Activists
lilly,

Animal-rights' activists are almost always "greens." Both camps are anti-people and both ally themselves with the Left. It tells you alot about the sympathies of the Left, whose believers are also those who are most likely to be anti-traditional values, and least likely to have children or more than two.

It just so happens that scientists, who are more inclined to be non-religious and liberal, happen to run afoul of the animal-rights folks. It's a case of otherwise natural allies falling out over one issue.

Eon is dead-on in his assessment.

lilly
No one here has tried to equate the Democrat Party and PETA--although PETA is certainly more represented in Democrat circles and politics than GOP--not even Deb Saunders.

The point of the article is that "animal-rights" activists are harassing, threatening, and attacking more and more and more people--and our "watchdog" press works hard to ignore it! The point is that this goes on and the MSM, which is so quick to report every incident where a far-right group does something outrageous as being the mindset of every conservative, will not even report on these stories. I had never heard of these actions before now--and they are certainly as newsworthy as Paris Hilton going to jail for DUI!

The point of the article is not to persuade, but to inform.

interesting comments
Seems to me the only purpose for Lilly's post is to enflame the right wing. Yet, that is what she accuses us of???? Lilly, a word to the wise (although I am not sure that would apply to you), be careful whom you accuse of what because if you are just as guilty of what you accuse, you become a hypocrit.

Now, having said that, the real purpose of this article was to inform us of the misrepresentations by the msm on a serious issue: terrorism. Whether that terrorism comes from Islamic radicals or over-sensitive freaks like PETA, the result is the same: innocent people suffer. And the msm doesn't seem to take that issue seriously. Is anyone surprised by that???

I am an animal lover. I have five wonderful pets. And I do not like to see people being cruel to animals. Of course not! I have a hard time watching Animal Planet's Animal Cops. Some people are just so inhumane. Ever see a dog starved and beaten so severely it has to be put down? There is NO excuse for that type of behavior. But I'm talking about idiots that take pleasure in torturing a pet-not medical researchers. Yes, it is a disturbing thought that an animal is tested upon in search of cures but what is the alternative? Most medical researchers at the very least ensure their test animals are fed, watered, and have a nice clean living area. Without that opportunity, how many lives would be lost? Granted, I do not believe animals should be test subjects for vain purposes like cosmetics but medical research is a necessity. Those who don't like that need to grow up.

Anti-abortion activists are just as bad as Peta, imho. Blowing up abortion clinics and doctors is NOT the way to 'protest'. It is ignorance at its highest. Frankly, I am sick and tired of the arrogance of some anti-abortionists...and a few pro-choicers as well. BOTH camps have validity AND error! There IS a solution to this issue. But until supporters in both sides calm down enough to listen, there's no point in discussing it. Therefore, this issue will never be resolved. And that is SAD!

I assume that Vlasak is a Vegan,
purist that he is, but how can he justify slaughtering innocent and helpless plants to satisfy his grotesque appetite? What makes him worth more than a bushel of soybeans or ears of corn? Is he not aware that plants feel pain, and that they aren't anesthetized before being harvested for parts? Oh, the horror of it all!

Me, I eat plants AND animals. It's kill or be killed, the human way. Get over it.

Fanaticism
Many in the animal-rights, ecological, environmental, and pro-life movements may not want to admit it, but some within their movements have alot in common with Islamic radicals.

It is obvious.

Each group feels its movement is so noble, so righteous, that any action to further its agenda is justified.

Even when life itself is not threatened, there have been cases where automobile dealerships have been targeted, their inventory maliciously damaged or destroyed by fanatics within the enviro movement who have convinced themselves, or been manipulated by demagogues, into believing that their pristine goal of "saving the environment" permits...even requires...them to destroy those dreaded suvs and large pick up trucks.

There is a certain purity of emotion, devoid of reason, that controls them.

This is very troubling. And it is not new. Fanaticism has always been with us(humanity).

Debra has written a good article.

lilly, Yooper, Flagwaver
lilly;

The "animal-rights" movement is simply another facet of the New Age anti-intellectual and ultimately anti-civilization movement that has afflicted the civilized world since the end of World War Two. Animal-rights activists, ranging from PETA to ALF, all operate on the principle of "a rat is a dog is a human", granting the human race no higher status on the evolutionary scale than, say, a howler monkey. This definitely conflicts with the theory of natural selection, and is further confirmation of their lack of intellectual rigor, as well as their romanticizing of what they have no understanding of- namely, the difference between sentient and non-sentient life.
They would prefer that humans be oppressed or restricted on the behalf of animals. As a result, they direct attacks against, not only researchers, but home builders, car dealers who sell off-road or recreational vehicles, supermarkets that sell meat products, and virtually anyone who "uses" animals in any way. Here in Ohio, they have attempted to burn down entire housing developments, as well as attacking university research centers that engage in medical research using animals as test subjects.

Now, considering that it is the "progressive" crowd (Democrat or otherwise) which is heavily invested against "urban sprawl", "exurbs", "gas-guzzlers", "environmental impact", and "eating bad foods" (defined as a non-Vegen diet), where do >you< think these clowns fall on the political spectrum?

Yooper;

I have to disagree with you (slightly). While it is true that you find a substantial number of "progressives" in life sciences and the so-called "soft" sciences, generally the deeper you go into the "hard science" part of biology, the more moderate-to-conservative types with Ph.Ds you encounter. (AT least, that's been my experience.) I personally believe it parallels the results in engineering; the more you are compelled to depend upon hard, quantifiable fact backed up by mathematical proofs for results, the less likely you are to be seduced by philosophies or "movements" predicated upon subjective judgments or "feelings".

On the "left" OR "right".

All real scientists know that "you can't fool Mother Nature".

Flagwaver;

If dimwitted "celebrities" (defined as "people who are famous for being famous") did not already exist, the MSM would have to invent them. Otherwise, the MSM "news" crowd might actually have to work for a living.

And BTW, note to all;

My attitude toward "animal rights" terrorists and those who commit similar acts toward abortion doctors and/or clinics is exactly the same; break the law, go to jail.

REALLY break the law (i.e., kill somebody in the process of making a "political statement")?

Say hello to Old Sparky.

cheers

eon

What are you PETA folks going to do when
the HEB or Winn-Dixie is no more? How will you feed your families? On turnips? I can, will and do provide my family fresh game. My daughters can dress a deer fairly quickly and love it when we get a wild hog. I love the grocery store-please do not misunderstand me on that, its my favorite place! But we are prepared. Also, you will be welcome at our table when your kids tummies start to hurt.

Activists and Groups
Can the President of the USA declare "martial law"? I mean without the approval of the Senate and Congress? In any event we need some kind of apparatus or law enforcement agency to DISBAND ABOUT 99% OF THESE FRIGGING ACRONYM GROUPS!

Free speech ends when the speech harms another person, place or thing. BTW, why is our Justice Department and the IRS so afraid of the ACLU (Anti-Christian Lawyers Union)?? This group harrasses and intimidates anybody and anything they bloody well please and nobody fights them or tries to disband them. The merely go into submission

revspitz
is not really off topic, since the overarching message of Saunders' article is that the MSM, and presumably the federal government, ignore most domestic flavors of terrorism. She did not happen to cite "pro life" terrorists as an example, but if she had written four or five more paragraphs, the subject would have been unavoidable.

And "revspitz" does a fine job of demonstrating they hypocrisy that often exists among self-defined conservatives.

No one could disagree that "it is a right thing to do to protect babies from being murdered by babykilling abortinists..."

But protecting babies by committing other murders cannot be excused on any ethical, theological or moral grounds. You believe either that all human life is sacred, or you don't. The fact that the life you choose to terminate is an adult life, rather than that of an unborn child does not confer any moral superiority upon you. It makes you a murderer, no different from those you choose as your victims.

American Terrorists
I return again and again to TH because I find many of the posted "Comments" to be both provocative and entertaining (are not solid ideas necessarily entertaining?). However, most of the postings for this article seem to land rather shy of Ms. Saunders' diaelectic:
1. Cruelty to animals is morally, ethically and legally WRONG.
2. The use of animals as expendable experimental subjects has produced enormous advances in Science generally and Medicine in particular. These are, as truth must always be, very POSITIVE moral, ethical and legal undertakings.

I do not know that I have ever listened to a "Vegan" reconcile my dentition and complete enjoyment of beef steak (rare-medium rare w/ a very cold jack of beer!) without resorting to, "Well, we are not just animals!"

Furthermore, where does one place the borders of The Race of Reason?

Interesting questions for which I have no simple answers. Where are you, Roger of Occam?

Revspits
You are a person of contradictions. You fight for the lives of our unborn and that is good, but you applaud doing so by taking the life of someone else. Do you at least see the problem with that line of thinking?

MURDEROUS LEFTIST HYPOCRITES
Leftists would be silent if not for lies and hatred. Take animal "rights" extremists, please.

Recently I met a very agreeable chap. We became good friends until the subject of politics intruded. He is a left-wing zealot. A Bush-hating, card-carrying liberal.

I pointed out the consummate hypocrisy of Democrats who promote abortion, including partial birth abortion, while they defend and support terrorists and murderers.

I pointed out that since President Bush took the war to the terrorists, there have been NO terrorist attacks in America except by Leftists, in the name of "defending" animals and the environment. Earth First and ELF are two such terrorist groups.

He spat back about the "right wing" murdering and lynching black Americans. I asked him to cite the date and time that last happened.

Silence.

Last year, Leftists caused tens of millions of dollars in fires and other damage. One Democrat student at Cal Tech was sentenced to something like ten years for firebombing an SUV dealership in LA County.

Q.E.D.

"SO YOU'RE FOR ABORTION BUT AGAINST KILLING TERRORISTS" - Bumper Sticker

Pointless Sunday Morning Rant
Please don't bother to follow this post with a "Lilly, what's your point" message because I will tell you up front that it has no particular point and is meandering. But reading through the posts since mine I notice some equation of vegans/vegetarians and PETA and leftists (Democrats?). This made me think of a couple of things.

First, every time I go to the supermarket I am amazed at the lines of products that were unheard of in my Midwestern childhood seventy years ago. Then, anybody who ate yogurt would have been considered a far-left crazy hairy radical and probably an anarchist. Now, the store offers about a block-long selection of yogurts. Some things that we may associate with extremism can become mainstream---"avant-garde" means "they go first". I assure you that in the Midwest of my childhood not only yogurt but bagels, pita, avocados, kiwis, tofu, pierogies, soy milk, and pizza were not household words.

Two, I noticed a post from Jamie (a survivalist?) the person who eats home-shot deer and wild pig, I can't quite agree with her that the grocery store is my favorite place. Maybe it used to be. But I have been seriously scared lately by reports of the contaminants in our food that are being snuck in by our global suppliers. This morning up early (and online for something quiet to do until my husband woke up) I posted to another thread on my experience re China-farmed seafood just the other day. Then after my better half got up we ate breakfast while reading the two daily papers we take, and both papers were full of more articles about Chinese (and similar) mess where they are raising and manufacturing our food. OUR food. Not just theirs. OURS.

So can we pull all this together for some kind of a point? a) I agree that some of the food extremists are kind of...extreme and I'm not at all tempted to follow them. But b) after a time they often turn out to be right, seems like.

I see that many of you don't want government regulation, even of our food supply. But I also see that unrestrained capitalism is bringing major crap into our grocery stores---not just stuff that is worrisome, but stuff that has killed people. So I don't know what the solution is.

Jamie, maybe you'd better set a lot of places at your table. We'll all bring the wine.

Terrorists are illiberals in action
First, what is a liberal? A liberal (small "l") is a person who believes in the principles of the Western Christian Liberal Enlightenment. One of these principles is that the political is not personal, that each individual has certain inherent natural rights which supercede your political views.

This is the islamofachists, the animalfachists and (for that matter) the fachists of the 20th century such as those in Italy, Spain & Germany.

And much of this is tolerated in our universities. Prior to Sept 11th, Radical Islam was openly welcomed in our schools and colleges. Radical anti-Americanism still is, as is animal rights and the rest.

Will the middle cease to hold? Will big research interests start funding death squads to go do unto the animal rights crews first? That, boys & girls, is why we have concepts like that of the rule of law.

And this illiberal thought, this tolerance of illiberal approaches to what are otherwise legitimate (if misguided) political views, is what we need to end. We need to end the tolerance of this approach in our schools.

The evil left....
lilly writes: But reading through the posts since mine I notice some equation of vegans/vegetarians and PETA and leftists
--------

I have seen it on a much more personal level: the animal rights activists who disrupted an afternoon speech by a professor were the exact same individuals who attempted to disrupt the evening event hosted by the Republican Club, the same folks who had disrupted the ROTC event a few weeks before. Same people, different slogans, in this case exact same individuals.

Bomb-throwing anarchy has returned...

terrorist
all terrorist should burn after they have been killed slowly. I dont care who or what they are all who wish to use fear and itemidation are nothing more then bullys and trash. Blinded by aboslute faith in whatever cause they follow they will destory everything to get what they want.

It could be
that Saunders' car bombers were as inept as she makes out or the bombs were not meant to go off. The animal rights people could be as dangerous as that fool televangelist who said we ought to take out Hugo Chavez. Or they could be her bloodthirsty terrorists. The bombs are as disgusting to me as some fool fundamentalist holding up a sign saying "God hates fags" or a pro life (anti abortion) fool shooting into an abortion clinic with no harm intended. This type of protest in extremist, misdirected, and generally ineffective.

If legitimate animal testing will save the life of one human, sorry for the animals but the human comes first. The key word in that sentence is legitimate.

ummmmmmmmmmm....
we should take out chavez course, that's just my opinion

Research on animals is bad . . .
but research on human embryos is not? Even when the arguments are the same for both sides? And if you can try to justify killing to save animal lives how can you not therefore try to justify killing to save human lives? It's okay to persecute a cop for firing his weapon, no matter what the reason, but a "down-trodden, picked-on person" can be explained away (Unless he's a Republican white male, of course - they're always bad.).

I guess I am neither conservative nor liberal . . . just confused.

Terrorist or Organized Crime?
Our Justice System is well aware they are dealing with dangerous organized criminals.

They should arrest every member of that criminal gang and everyone who has contributed to it or helped it in any way.
They are all equally guilty and should pay the same penalty.

It is always some innocent person who suffers the consequence of misguided emotional idiots meddling in affairs they know nothing about.
Every one of those "Criminals by Proxy" should be used to test drugs on.

LAWLESS COUNTRY
yes, greens are terrorists like many others, and yes, you can't touch 'em.

MyOpine
The government will just tell you they can't find them and it's not plausable to arrest all of them. Just like 20 million illegals. Yeah right.

MyOpine
"Every one of those "Criminals by Proxy" should be used to test drugs on."

Hi feeling well I see LOL.
eastlake joe is correct you know. This regime couldn't find a mall with a phonebook

Gee, Hal
As I recall, the LAST regime wasn't too good at "finding" illegals, either.

minowe
The explosive growth has been during the Bush Regime and the very last years of Clinton but this is a Bush Regime made problem for the most part That it still exists after all these years certainly is his

Folks
Be well perhaps later

a warning
What these leftist fools forget is that its us conservatives that own most of the guns.

Keep pushing. Bomb another research facility. Burn another housing development or SUV dealership. Keep trying to outlaw hunting ... but watch out because if you keep it up you never know where the "Right Wing NRA Bubbas" will turn up.

Hal Donahue
I am not sure of what you are trying to say.
I doubt you are either.

If you are trying to Bush Bash you are wasting the effort with me. I am so disgusted with Bush over that Amnesty thing I don't care how you insult him.

Let's talk about your buddy Kerry;
http://www.kerrystreason.com/index.html

Fight fire with fire
Let corporations like Chiron, or the individual researchers hire (or do it themselves) hire some people to bomb the homes of the activists to see how they like those tactics! What do you want to bet that makes front page headlines in all of the liberal rags?

SOME ARE WRONG AND KNOW THAT
Dear subject twisters/evaders:
Forget the past (OR say: everybody was "bad" then...OK?)

WE ARE TALKING ABOUT TODAY'S Muslims and Christianity.

Today's Christianity: peace and forgiveness
Today's Islam: killing non-Muslims, no rights for women, stoning their own, etc.

IF YOU DO NOT SEE THE DIFFERENCE,I CANNOT DISCUSS WITH YOU.

BleedingHeartLib=Moral equivalency kook
Anyone who equates bombing - a felony designed to physically injure and kill with a person holding up a sign saying "God hates fags" (which I personally find morally outrageous) which is constitutionally protected free speech doesn't deserve to be at-large in society. Fit him for a "special white coat" and keep him locked in a room where he can do no one, save himself, any harm and not breath the same air as the rest of us.

What you said is incorrect:
"yes, greens are terrorists like many others, and yes, you can't touch 'em."

You can't touch 'em, I have no qualms about using physical force (of any degree) to stop those lunatics bent on dispensing their "eco-terrorism"

The price of freedom is constant vigilence.
I'm watching.

lilly
Once again you insist on stereo typing people. I really don't care where you grew up. My family has been making and eating their own yogurt, sour cream, cottage cheese, farmer's cheese, cream, butter for generations. No one would have ever dared to call us even remotely hippie, or weird. As usual, your intellect is sorely lacking as you attempt to paint everyone with a broad brush.

animal rights activists
Yeah know as an avid animal lover I believe in humane testing only, but I gotta say these guys take the cake. It reminds me of the idiots who blow up the abortion clinics in the name of 'life'. Really stupid.

Second Amendment ...
the cop can't be everywhere and often when he does his job some lawyer tries to stick it to him. In the end it is up to you to defend yourself and your holdings ...

Unless of course you prefer being like the English and the Aussies .... Google for the net effect of passiveness and citizen disarmament in these places. England is swimming in cameras to 'protect the citizens'. Orwell was a prophet.

A point
I think DD877 has a point. The animal rights (aka bowel) movement needs martyrs.

And, since Dr. Vlasak talks so bravely of killing people, I volunteer *him* as the first to go.

Make it terrorism
when they commit these acts against Doctors, researchers, etc.. Define terrorism as an act with the death penalty.. We wouldn't have to execute more than 5, 10, 15 of these terrorists and save a whole lot of trouble not to mention lives. Self admission, such as Vlasik has done, would be enough to hang!

Vlasak
Did I read right, Vlasak is a surgeon? I wonder what happened to his frog in biology class.

Questions
Every time this subject comes up someone writes about anti-abortion murderers and abortion clinic bombers as if it was happening every week [frequently adding that the perp was allegedly a fundamentalist Christian, therefore all other Christians are in agreement].

Can someone please tell me how many people have been convicted of either act in the last 40 years? Or even accused? And of those, how many actually were followers of Jesus Christ? Please tell me how many unexplained such actions took place?

I haven't heard any such reports in several years. The last one I remember was that guy in, I think, Georgia, that hid in the woods for a couple of years.

I have, however, read more than a few reports of eco-terrorism from ELF and harassment of animal researchers in that same time frame.

Apply abortion clinic laws...
Imagine how the animal rights crew would be silenced should they be treated the way that abortion protesters are? From attempts to apply RICO to buffer zones, PETA would be silenced....

Helllooo?!
Why is this guy Vlasek still walking around free?

Hasn't he threatened the lives of several (admittedly unnamed) persons?

Did Saunders get the following quote right?

"I don't think you'd have to kill -- assassinate -- too many," Vlasak opined. "I think for 5 lives, 10 lives, 15 human lives, we could save a million, 2 million or 10 million nonhuman lives."

Excuse me Dr. (and we use the term loosely) Vlasek, but ONE human life is too many, no matter how many animals you save. That's the whole point of using animals for research (DUHHHH!).

I don't know where these whackos come from, but the last thing I want to read is that a researcher has emailed Vlasek that "you win". This is only going to encourage him.

As with any other terrorist it is the opposite approach that is effective, so be warned Dr. Vlasek. I don't do research of any kind, but I am involved in construction, and we do work for companies that might be doing research with animals. I haven't fired a 30.06 in many years, but I haven't forgotten how. And I will remember real quickly if you decide to leave any of your surprises on my doorstep.

dollface
He probably refused to dissect it and prefered to experiment I mean practice on humans. Lucky Frog.

American Terrorist?
I'm thinking I'll be reading about Bloods and Crips, Aryan Brotherhood, M-13, Hell's Angels, maybe even the Mafia.

Instead, Saunders publicly admits she doesn't know what the word "terrorist" means by using an ultra-fringe group of animal fanatics as an example of such.

And, as is typical from the usual suspects on TH, the MSM, leftists, environmentalists on all levels(been a rash of terrorist incidents perpetrated by the Audobon Society lately?) are all served up as the enemies of an civilized society.

Yawn...

sooo pancho,
you aren't the least bit concerned with dr. vlasek's threat to kill humans to 'protect' animals? or do you prefer to remain deaf, dumb and blind to such threats?

Bombings and terrorism..
..are a legacy left by Irish terrorists, who trained Libyan terrorists and Yassar Arafat's Fatah movement in the cowardly art of leaving bombs in crowded places to make political statements. Basques and Red Brigands copied their style. Those terrorists created terrorist training camps under the direction of IRA terror specialists. Copycat institutions are the legacy they left behind, including what used to be centers of religious education and turning them into indoctrinators of hatred and violence. Were it not for Irish bombings of the sixties and seventies, this would be a different world today, and the likes of Timothy McVeigh et al probably would not have materialised in the manner which they did. Lives would not have been lost.

And now the IRA are saying, "no more bombing". And we leave it at that?

I have to agree
that (at least) the leadership of the green, animal rights, and many leftist groups have a similar mentality as the Islamic fundies. Both fanatical in their ideologies and willing to resort to extremes. (And yes lily), these groups are tied to the Left. Maybe that explains why leftists never seem to criticize Islam.
