Why Huckabee Should Stay In

Was the Copenhagen Global Warming Summit Walk-Out a Win for the U.S.?

Against the backdrop of the current trend of roller-coaster/whiplash politics, I venture a few thoughts making a case that it really aint over until the formerly fat guy sings.

Mike Huckabee should resist any pressure, subtle or not so much, suggesting that he follow the lead of Mitt Romney and suspend his campaign. Of course, there is no indication whatsoever that he plans to do anything other than forge ahead, but this political season has been full of surprises and high drama.

In case you hadn’t noticed, it’s still a long time until the Republican National Convention, which doesn’t convene until Labor Day (September 1st) in Minneapolis. This will be the latest any major party convention has ever been held. The Democrats will meet in Denver the week before.

Mr. Huckabee’s continued campaign is actually very healthy for the party and the process, calls for stop-the-race unity notwithstanding. First, though Romney suggested that a protracted campaign would delay a party-wide national campaign, it’s actually more likely that any such national unity campaign, with the nomination being a done deal, would compete poorly for media attention as compared to the apparent fight to the finish of the other gal and guy.

The Democrats will have high drama while the Republicans could become the victims of the political equivalent of writer’s strike-driven viewer apathy. There simply will be no news there. Shadow boxing seldom draws the crowd a real match does – even a seemingly uneven one.

Then there is the personality thing. Mike Huckabee has one. John McCain is a great American, but he is not a great communicator. As people look for the “Reagan-factor” these days, I think it must be acknowledged that he was a president known first and foremost as The Great Communicator. And, if Barack Obama is the Democratic candidate in the fall, Mr. McCain will make many people long for the witty charm of Bob Dole.

Governor Huckabee is a dynamic and charismatic communicator who could go toe to toe with Obama in the war of words that a presidential campaign essentially becomes. His preacher training would serve him well.

And, temperament is part of personality. In the past Democrats had to scramble to deal with bimbo eruptions. Well, Republicans may soon find themselves having to handle anger eruptions on the part of their leader. This is being downplayed right now as we hear the call for unity, but it’s a very real potential problem.

Mr. Reagan had a temper, by the way – his microphone seizing indignation in New Hampshire (1980) is a famous example. But, few would suggest that his capacity for ire was a defining or dominant trait. Can the same be said of the Senator from Arizona?

People tend to a resist a mad man (as in anger, not the lack of sanity). Mr. Huckabee is certainly someone who comes across as friendly, sincere, and inviting. The platform is his comfort zone – and he is the same up close and personal.

And, there is the issue of conservative cultural values. It’s clear that John McCain’s main task during these post unity speech days is to shore up support from conservatives. However, the indication is that, despite the top-down plethora of endorsements, many in the grass-roots aren’t so sure – yet. So, it’s a good time for a real look at Mike Huckabee. Until now he’s been competing for conservative attention with Mitt Romney and others.

Is it too much to ask that before Republicans rush to the warm fuzzy of unity that one more look be given to the man from Arkansas? For that matter, maybe it will be the first look for some. What’s the harm in that?

There are some primaries on Tuesday in and around Washington, D.C. (Maryland and Virginia) – and it will be interesting to see how much the voters (the ultimate arbiters) will fall in step with the new party line.

Finally, though the war on terror in general, and the conflict in Iraq, in particular, were cited by Mr. Romney in his suspension speech, it’s far from clear that running a largely single issue dominant campaign is the best strategy for winning the White House. Certainly national and international security issues are paramount concerns – and represent major distinctions between the two parties – but a lot can happen between now and November. Prolonged wars are inherently unpredictable.

It’s the war, stupid – actually might not be this year’s victory mantra. Yes, it’s a vital issue, but does it really trump everything else?

Conservatives should take a good look at Mike Huckabee before all is finally said and done.

It’s still early in February – and a long way to September and November.

Gotta go with the Governor
As a Naval Academy graduate and active duty naval officer, my preferred candidate should be Senator McCain--a fellow alumni and retired Navy Captain, not to mention a decorated former POW. But that is not enough. Governor Huckabee has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to defending the value of human life. That fact alone earned him my careful scrutiny. I have found him to be someone who makes principled, conservative stands and then follows through on those convictions. Can I say the same about Senator McCain? Governor Huckabee has my vote.

Couldn't agree more
Stokes is right. Not only is there no harm in Huckabee staying in the race, there's a lot of good he can do for the conservative movement and the Republican Party by staying in.

Regardless of the results, here's what the voters will see if Huck stays in:

On the Democrat side, it's Hillary "it's all about me" Clinton vs. Barak "let's have change whatever that means and who cares" Obama, duking it out. Meanwhile,

On the Republican side, it's McCain vs. Huckabee in a gentleman's race discussing the issues. Why? For the good of the country! (What a novel idea.)

Here's what the voters will see if Huck bows out:

On the Democrat side, two seasoned campaigners making their pitch.

On the Republican side... (there is no Republican side)

Enough said. Well, except the least Huckabee can do is help move McCain to the right and bring the conservative coalition together for a win in November. The most he can do? Win the nomination. Sure, it might be a long shot, but it's not over, and if social and fiscal conservatives took my advice in the next paragraph, well, anything's possible.

Conservatives should take another look at Mike Huckabee. If Mike had Romney's money and McCain's political experience he would be the front-runner right now. Because of lack of funds, he failed to register with many voters and get his message out, allowing his opponents to define him. Further, he didn't properly articulate his conservative record early on, which is why so many considered Romney the real conservative, which he wasn't -- Huckabee was and is.

Whichever way this goes, Huck's doing us all a great service, and at the end of the day, he might just be the reason the Republican nominee wins in November.

Give Mike credit. Some think he's in denial. Now way! He's run a fabulous campaign with little resources, got people excited and raised some really important issues. Go Mike!

Mitt
If Huck had any Honor or Integrity he would have dropped and let Mitt go on. Mitt did the right thing putting aside his personal ambition for the good of the country as Huck or him had to drop so they could beat McCain. Huck does not deserve it if he gets it.

Huckabigot should be long gone
The ONLY reason he is still in is because he was determined to keep "the Mormon" from winning the nomination.
Sadly a lot of his supporters also feel that way. Anyone but "A Mormon," as if we are the Devil incarnate.

WELL, I like Huckabigot just a little less than I like McCain, and I wouldn't vote for any ticket that religious bigot is on. Not a chance in Hell.

With respect
Dear Marines' Dad,
The article is expressing several important points.
1. If McCain is worth looking at for the next several months, (or years) can't he be forced to define himself against a "religious bigot" (your words)
2. Let the "religious bigot" define himself for all to see, now that the field has cleared.
3. If he is a "religious bigot" let all see and hear. You are offering no proof, and, frankly, that's what I'd like to see.
4. McCain will stagnate if he is crowned too soon, as the author states. He will simply become fodder for the two Dems. to frame the debate. He will make a poor punching bag.
5. Additionally, Mr. jcdean1978, are you threatened by the fact that a continuation of the defining of the GOP might come at the hands of Huck? I am about as excited by McCain as looking at a fire hydrant. I know it's there. My conservative views have never seemed to be supported or even regarded by McCain, as well as a lot of other conservative posters on TH. Why not let him win his coronation rather than the GOP prematurely rubber stamp him?

Stop the liberal left wing name calling
jcdean1978 and Marines' Dad you need to act with more dignity like Mitt and stop calling Huckabee names.

You can't really be Mormons, because Mormons are not hateful and intolerant of others like you two. Either you are Democrat shills and are trying to split Republicans or you are McCainites trying to act like Mormons who hate Huckabee.

I can prove you are not Mormons. Mormons are honest, kind, gentle, forgiving, patient, loving, and not mean-spirited like your posts.

Good Night.

We Have Seen Enough of Huckabee
Huckabee, much like John McCain, loves the limelight the media is shining on his rinky-dink campaign. He loves to show that he is the anti-Romney and champion of the evangelical wing of the party.

But if he did think he could actually win this race, he should be contrasting himself against McCain, but that's something he won't do because he doesn't want to offend his mentor because he wants the VP slot. He wants to show that he can win the southern states to prove to McCain that he needs him.

Huck seems like a great guy, someone you could have over to your home for a barbecue. But he just doesn't cut it for POTUS. He would make a great talk radio show host.

Yeap I must be a Liberal
Because I oppose the liberal class warfare bigot Huckabee. I think both Cain and Huck are slime and 2 of the worst the GOP has to offer. Anyone who supports either candidate is either not a Conservative or is easily duped in which case I would like to sell you some ocean front property in Arizona.

We need more men like Mitt to run. He however put the good of the nation ahead of his personal desires. While Mitt has my vote, I can not support either Huck the bigot liar or Cain the back stabbing traitor. Let the DNC take control to remind us all why we need real conservatives. Nothing would put the fire in the GOP belly like a Hitlary or Hussein POTUS.

I fear for the future of our Republic.

27 States are yet to vote
They deserve a chance to have some choice in who runs for President.

I am glad Huckabee is not bowing out and sticking it to his critics.

Another day, same whiners

Eli
I'd like some more facts. Again, the article posits that Huck should be allowed to define himself, and that's not a bad thing. Let the religious conservatives, fiscal conservatives, Constitutional conservatives, and Libertarians hear it all, rather than crown McCain too early. Is that too tough?

jcdean1978
TH author Tucker's post is worth a read. Neither of the Dems have the guts to stand up to WWIV. Reagan won WWIII, commonly called "The Cold War." We now face radical Islam. Moderate Islam will not face down their insane element, and neither Harridan Hillary nor Namesake Obama will. My distaste for McCain is so strong that I can't believe I might have to vote for him. But I'm not so willing to roll the dice with four years of either Madam or Mullah, and count on 2012.

Huckabee Is A Socialist
Huckabee is the very reason why intelligent people stay away from the Republican Party, and why real Republicans (by this I mean people who define themselves along the Goldwater-Reagan continum, wonder if it makes any difference if the Democrats win. This snake charmer is a theocratic zealout, and a tax-raising socialist. This disingenous political animal speaks of a "new new deal." For those of you who do not know history, FDR unleased the New Deal on The United States and since then welfarism has brought havoc to our nation. If anyone but Lady Macbeth won the Democratic nomination and Huckabee won the Republican nomination, I would have to consider voting Democratic. First, he should drop out of the race. Then, he should go join the Democratic Party where his socialist ideas would be welcome.

Huckabee=Elmer Gantry
Elmer Gantry (Huck) for Pres!
Huckabee lets MURDERERS free in Arkansas who become my Missouri's problem when as a Jesus accepting criminal, they come here and Rape and Murder Missouri women! Thanks Huck for nothing.

Huckabee is Elmer Gantry reincarnate. He DESTROYED public taxpayer property hard drives on computers. You have to wonder what he needed to hide!!! Name any other state where this is established practice for an out going governor!

Judicial Watch, a non-profit political watchdog puts Huck at number 6 on their top ten list of corrupt politicians. We all know what good law abiding politicians come out of Hope Arkansas.

Hillary, Rudy and Obama make this list as well as others. Check it out and ask yourself if you want any of these 10?
http://www.judicialwatch.org/judicial-watch-announces-list -washington-s-ten-most-wanted-corrupt-politicians-2007

Huckabee, crook and liar for Pres.
One of four candidates(two Rep and two Dem)who are crooks.

http://www.judicialwatch.org/judicial-watch-announces-list- washington-s-ten-most-wanted-corrupt-politicians-2007

If he had no sins to hide, why in the name of Heaven did he destroy state computer hard drives (something NO other state would stand for). This is taxpayer owned, obstruction of justice, destroying that which could prove your innocence OR PROVE YOUR GUILT. Wonder which it was?

Then he besmirches the mother of poor raped and murdered girl here in Missouri on national TV instead of owning up to his mistake like a man.
Statement from Lois Davidson, Mother of Killer's Victim, in Response to Governor Huckabee

Lois Davidson, whose daughter Carole Sue Shields was raped and killed in 2000 by a criminal whose release from prison was championed by former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, issued the following statement today in response to Huckabee's contention in a television interview that her story was being "exploited" for political purposes:

"Last night, Mike Huckabee accused me of being exploited and used for political purposes. I assure you, Mr. Huckabee, I am not being exploited. I am fully aware of the actions I have taken in attempting to inform the public of your role in my daughter's rape and murder. I have spent over 7 years thinking about this.
"I am not a dupe. But you, Governor Huckabee, were duped time and again by convicted felons who once released from prison by you began hurting people again.
"Mr. Huckabee, I am not a victim. However, my daughter was a victim. She was raped and murdered by a serial rapist that you wanted freed from prison. Please be honest about the role you played in releasing my daughter's killer."

Huckabee's dismissal of Davis came during an interview on the Hannity and Colmes television program following a Republican debate in Myrtle Beach, S.C.
Mike why don't you send Chuck Norris to "shut her up"!

Well
I'm grateful to hear evidence. Could Newt emerge in the convention and put an end to all these death wishes?

Gocvernor Huckabee
is a christofascist theocrat.

Are you really willing to endorse a man who seeks to replace Constitution of United States with a Bible?

But I agree, he should stay on the race so the people would really see how far Christian right in this country is willing to go in their zealotry and willingness to destroy all civil liberties and equal rights and elevate white evengelical Christians as ruling, theocratic class.

Huckabee is no socialist, he's a religious right wing nbutjob whjo is willing to funnel tax money directly to Churches who would then preach from their pulpits how Huckabee is God's choice for president.

He's rotten to the core, so keep him in race and how your true colors to America.

You can prove I'm not a Mormon??
So, Brett, exactly how can you prove this? I'm dying to know.

The fact that I don't like Huckabigot because he's an anti-Mormon bigot is not name calling, it's telling the truth.

Several times in several speeches and/or interviews THAT I HEARD he has said that Mormons are not Christians(which we are), and Mitt Romney should not be president because he is a Mormon.

I don't give a rip if you heard it or not, or if you like it or not. Huckabigot said it and he's a bigot for not only saying it, but thinking it.

Now go ahead and prove that I'm not a Mormon. As I said at the start of this post, I'm dying to see you do that.

Huckabee against Amnesty
Huckabee has signed both the NumbersUSA NO Amnesty pledge and Senator Sessions NO Amnesty and Secure the Borders pledge.

McCain refuses to reject Amnesty and said he would sign McCain/Kennedy Amnesty if it crossed his desk.

If ANY of you posters are real Conservatives explain why NO Amnesty is NOT one of your highest priorities?

For example if McCain and Kennedy have their Amnesty 12 to 20 million poor illegal invaders will be put on a pathway to citizenship and the right to vote.

Then 20 million new POOR voters will VOTE DEMOCRAT and kiss EVER seeing a Conservative President or a Conservative Congress in YOUR LIFETIME!

Huckabee made mistakes as Governor just like Reagan. Reagan signed the law legalizing abortion in California killing thousands of babies. Should Conservatives have rejected Reagan for this horrible mistake?

Grow up Rayfinn and stop the hating.

Mormons don't teach intolerance like you
Marines' Dad,
Mormons are very tolerant of other people's religious beliefs. Mormons tolerate Christians who reject Mormons as Christians. Mormons follow Jesus' example and turn the other cheek. You are slapping at Huckabee.

For example, Mormons don't call people names like Huckabigot. That is not loving.

Christ would not do that, and Mormons believe in following Christ's example. Mormons believe in not being contentious, you are being contentious and hateful.

Either you are not a Mormon or Mormon do not believe in following Christ's example.

Apparently Brett, YOU don't read

Brett writes: Sunday, February, 10, 2008 4:19 AM
Huckabee against Amnesty
"If ANY of you posters are real Conservatives explain why NO Amnesty is NOT one of your highest priorities?"

The majority of the posts by us REAL Conservatives, or you wouldn't ask such a STUPID question.
Amnesty, and the McCain Kennedy bill, are TWO of the biggest complaints we have against McAmnesty.
He's for open borders and granting citizenship to illegals.
Did you miss it when we flooded the halls of Congress with phone calls, faxes, emails and other protests and STOPPED McCain-Kennedy from being snuck thru in backroom deals and midnight sessions?

You're telling others to grow up. I'd STRONGLY suggest that YOU grow up and start actually reading the posts you're apparently missing when you ask such stupid questions.

Second proof to Marine's Dad
Pray right now Marine's Dad and ask God or Christ if it is OK that you post such contentious posts.

We will know the real truth by your answer.

If you don't like Amnesty
why would you do anything to allow McCain or Hillary or Obama to become President?

Conservatives would rally around the ONLY choice left to stop Amnesty and the END of Conservative Presidents or Conservative Congress for the REST of our lives.

You obvious are NOT Conservative and NOT a devout Mormon.

Excuse me, but Mormons DO
Express our feelings, and WE DO call a spade a spade.

I have no problem with Huckabees religion, and I don't give a rip what he believes, as long as he keeps it out of his campaign.
Excuse the hell out of me if I'm not "loving" towards an out in the open bigot. There is NO PLACE in this country, or campaign, for bigotted BULLSCHEIST by anyone, of any party!!

When he starts saying that another candidate(ROMNEY), isn't qualified to be president because of HIS LDS Religion, THAT IS NOT campaigning on issues. That is campaigning on Religious BIGOTRY and I WILL NOT let it slide. Neither should anyone else.

Romney NEVER made an issue of Huckabigots religion, but Huckabigot DID make one of Romneys, MANY times.

And you still haven't proven that I'm not a Mormon. My attitude towards Huckabigot doesn't prove squat.

You're an idiot, Brett
And from the crap you're posting not worth any further answers after this one. So you won't get any.
But go right ahead and continue to post your drivel. You're only making a bigger fool of yourself.

Good Night
Marine's Dad,
Remember its better for your personal character to follow Christ's example and turn the other cheek than to vent your anger and hatred at your perceived enemies even on Townhall.

You are to win men to Christ with your words and deeds not offend them with your arrogance.

Huckabigot
is excellent term.

A Conservative's View
Thank you David Stokes for eloquently explaining what it is about Mike Huckabee that has drawn many registered Conservatives to support him.

Conservatism is not a cafeteria style platform but a platform and belief system that encompasses, social values, economic policy, military and foreign policy, national security, personal and civil liberty, and Constitutional federalism. There are many out in the political arena that are false conservatives, Huckabee for all the media and talking head protestations is not one of them.

The Reagan ,er Huckabee, Democrats
With his populist message to the low socio economic strata, Huckabee offers a welcome to Democrats who are not crazy about identity politics. Clinton has imposed such rigid requirements for agreement among Democrats that they may never realize that there is disagreement. Exit polls in SC showed that 35% of Dem voters said that the US is not ready for a black or woman president.
Mac may be back, but so is the silent majority and it has never favored leftists. Huckabee started winning when Edwards pulled out and left the redneck, lunchbox cohort without a Democrat to vote for.

Excuse me...
...but don't Evangelicals believe Jesus and Satan were brothers?

Just asking.

rufus
How does Rufabigot sound.

Most all of you are telling a lie here and a lie there.
Just say i will vote for ____________, then shut up.
It would be better to aim at keeping the Communist party headed hillary, obama & etc. out of control.
Also, remember to educate people like Rufabigot if it deems possible.

Me Too, Stokes
There are many good reasons why Huckleberry should stick around - even though he has zero chances. One major reason is to keep the spotlight on McShame to keep saying he will plug the border that he helped open. Cain is about as low as anyone one the patriot scale - and is willing to turn the country into a Mexico II first, America second. The Constitution is still intact -- until Hillary or Obama get it updated so that it is "progressive." But certainly Cain has not done anything to protect the Constitution. He is all about Him and getting TV facetime. McCain is a member of the CFR and that means open borders and more "free" trade and all other follows in the distance.

Huckabee would make an excellent
president...of the Confederacy.

OK,Pandm...
...I will vote for Nam65-66.Now my lips are sealed.

@Marine's Dad
Marine's Dad,

so I gather you wont vote for the party nomineee who will either be McCain or Huckabee?

Well fine. But here's who you will be electing by default:

B. Hussein Obama: lets take a close look at your default candidate:

Barack Hussein Obama was born in
Honolulu, Hawaii, to Barack Hussein Obama, Sr., a black MUSLIM from Nyangoma-Kogel, Kenya and Ann Dunham, a white ATHIEST from Wichita,
Kansas.

Obama's parents met at the University of Hawaii. When Obama was two years old, his parents divorced.

His father returned to Kenya. His mother then married Lolo Soetoro, a RADICAL Muslim from Indonesia.

When Obama was 6 years old, the family relocated to Indonesia.

Obama attended a MUSLIM school in Jakarta.

He also spent two years in a Catholic school.

Obama takes great care to conceal the fact that he is a Muslim.

He is quick to point out that, "He was once a Muslim, but that he also attended Catholic school."

Obama's political handlers are attempting to make it appear that
Obama's introduction to Islam came via his father, and that this influence was
temporary at best.

In reality, the senior Obama returned to Kenya soon after the divorce, and never again had any direct influence over his son's education.

Lolo Soetoro, the second husband of Obama's mother, Ann Dunham, introduced his stepson to Islam.

Obama was enrolled in a Wahabi school in Jakarta.

Wahabism is the RADICAL teaching that is followed by the Muslim terrorists who are now waging Jihad against the western world.

Since it is politically expedient to be a CHRISTIAN when seeking Major public office in the United States, Barack Hussein Obama has joined the United Church of Christ in an attempt to downplay his Muslim background.

Let us all remain alert concerning Obama's expected presidential candidacy, and support the GOP Nominee, and put away the petty grudges.

Corrupt Christian Socailist
Contrary to the spiel heard from the dope from Hope, Arkansas, Hucksterbee is a lib, just like McCain. Is there a wonder why he was named to Judicial Watch's List of the TOP TEN MOST CORRUPT POLITICIANS IN AMERICA. This does not even include his almost 1000 pardons/clemencies to some very brutal criminals, who continued in their recidivist ways, killing and raping because Mr. Christian Socialist felt compelled to let them go. Only the notorious Huey Long could be more of a snake-oil salesman who played identity politics to the hilt.

Never mind that he liked to raise taxes much much more than he "lowered" them. Under his watch, the Arkansas state budget increased six fold. His enviro-wacko views resemble those of that other religio-enviro-wacko Jim Wallis. His unfailing support of the DREAM act for Illegals' kids makes us realize why he and McShamnesty get along so well.

His anti-Mormon bigotry on prime-time television deserves a swift roundhouse kick to the teeth, his smarminess and jejune jokes against Mitt were an absolute disgrace. This man has no class in thought, word or deed. He proclaims to be a gentleman.

Au contraire, monsieur, you are slime itself. There is nothing refined or erudite in your bones. Tell me, sir, why can't you find Pakistan on the map.

Stokes writes
"Mr. Huckabee is certainly someone who comes across as friendly, sincere, and inviting."

These are excellent qualities for a potential family dog.

Thanks, but we are looking for a POTUS.

Dear Nam65-66
The term "Evangelical" is casting a big net. Major camps in Christendom include mainline denominations like Lutherans, Methodists, Anglicans and so on. They are currently undergoing massive upheaval because the same liberal bunch that has taken over universities now control the seminaries. Ordaining gays, and denying the divinity of Jesus of Nazareth are among their goals of a "social gospel," which concerns itself more with helping the poor. Actual, Bible reading and loving believers are either departing from, or splitting from (Anglicans especially)these historic denominations. Some are staying and trying to return their denomination to its historic faith, usually embodied in The Apostle's Creed.

Another camp is characterized as "Evangelicals" who do believe that Jesus of Nazareth was God come in the flesh, who died in the place of all humans, taking their sins upon himself. Think of God himself, jumping on the hand grenade that was meant for the whole human race. Evangelicals also believe that Jesus of Nazareth rose from the dead; that death could not hold Him, the author of Life. As Bible readers and believers, most Evangelicals will point to Scripture verses that indicate that Satan was among the heavenly host with God but wanted to be God; he led a rebellion by deceiving fellow angels, and was cast out of heaven. Since Satan hates God but really can't do anything to God, he wants worship from the next best thing, humans that are created in God's image. No Evangelical will ever declare that Satan and Jesus were, are or ever will be brothers.
That's a nutshell. I'll probably catch some flack by some who will say I've mischaracterized some theological point.
Thanks for serving.
U.S.N. 66-67

Huckabee was no Romney Spoiler
There was a narrative rolling around that Huckabee was a spoiler against Mitt Romney. But unlike Nader in the 2000 election, Huckabee beat Romney in a lot of places and not all of it was because Mitt was a Mormon. There was something about Mitt's personality and her ability to instantly shift the focus of his campaign that left alot of social conservatives and others wondering who is the real Mitt Romney.

It was hard to buy the doing for the country crap, he got out because in good business man fashion he did the math and concluded that he could not win.

Funny we never heard Mitt talk about how we were in a war and why that mattered until his peech.

As to Huckabee, he is certainly an interesting individual who has been written off more than once by the conservative elites because he could not meet every single solitary one of their litmus tests.

His message of populist conservatism has ressonance with a lot of people in the party and his language and corney jokes that don't work well with French Wine Sipping Republicans in the North East is music to the ears of many conservatives in the south.

Like McCain he is reflection of the complexity of what it means to be a conservative and the conservative movement which is a loose coaliion of individuals who share some ideas in common more than other ideas. Because he has ran a mostly positive campaign his supporters will migrate to McCain. At the same time , Huckabee fans will feel that their party has given voice to their values and concerns.

Huckabee should stay in for now.

Nam65-66
I'll vote for you! that's 2! Are we on our way?

What the real problem is..........
is that the LGBT RNC and RSCC thought they had the deal sewn up by an early presidential cycle and the foisting of four social liberals on the base of the Republican Party fully expecting them to capitulate. Fortunately, the base is fully aware that this particular election cycle is the culmination of the culture war. Social conservatives, by ignoring LGBT conservative talk radio and mimicking the activism of the LGBT constituencies, have prevented the use of the executive, the legislative, and the judiciary branches of government by neurotic legal professionals(Romney, Thompson, and Giuliani) to collude with neurotic medical professionals to normalize neurotic behavior and its associated paraphilias since the revision of the ALIMPC in 1955 based on the fraudulent and fallacious research of Alfred Kinsey and Evelyn Hooker. The fight is not over yet. Anything less than a social conservative and social liberal/moderate representing the Republican ticket in 2008 will mean the SCOTUS is lost for another generation. Both candidates of the Democrat Party side with its LGBT constituents which believe in the normalization of neurotic behavior. The states of Massachusetts and Californa (thank you, Mitt and Arnold)have implemented early education regarding the innateness of homosexuality, even though the professional bodies of the APA do not agree with the premature conclusions. If the goal of the LGBT Republicans and Democrats is to ignore the emotional and psychological behavior of children by becoming like Scandanavia, the EU, and Canada, then let's fully advocate for the normalization of ephebophilia and pedophilia as the aforementioned countries.

Lies about Obama
Cornpone Harry does the entire voting process a disservice with his innuendo and outright lies about Barak Obama.
It's really embarrassing to see people stoop to such levels by parroting irresponsible and unsupportable garbage.

The problem with Obama is that he promotes a socialist agenda. The debate should be centered on the issues that affect the future of our nation.

Huckabee will win the votes
of those suffering McCain Derangement Syndrome who are not quit crazy enough to vote for Obama or Hillary.

He needs to stay in as a protest candidate. I would love to see him win and hear all the people who voted for him deny it like they all denied they voted for LBJ.

A Conservative is Still in The Race
Ron Paul!

He hasn't pulled out of the race.

Yes, he has scaled back his campaign but there are not so many states in play now.

He has confirmed that he will not run 3rd party, that's it.

Granted, McCain is looking like he will "win" the nomination. Huckabee is staying in to keep the anti-McCain vote from coalescing behind Ron Paul. Ron Paul probably coudn't win anyway because too many Republicans confuse militarism with patriotism.

McCain will NOT be the next president. I hope y'all enjoy living in the Peoples Republic of Aztlan (or maybe the new Caliphate)

Read Revelation 18 for another view.

Revelation 18 (abridged)
1And after these things I saw another angel come down from heaven, having great power; and the earth was lightened with his glory.
2And he cried mightily with a strong voice, saying, Babylon the great is fallen, is fallen, and is become the habitation of devils, and the hold of every foul spirit, and a cage of every unclean and hateful bird.
7How much she hath glorified herself, and lived deliciously, so much torment and sorrow give her: for she saith in her heart, I sit a queen, and am no widow, and shall see no sorrow.
8Therefore shall her plagues come in one day, death, and mourning, and famine; and she shall be utterly burned with fire: for strong is the Lord God who judgeth her.
9And the kings of the earth, who have committed fornication and lived deliciously with her, shall bewail her, and lament for her, when they shall see the smoke of her burning,
11And the merchants of the earth shall weep and mourn over her; for no man buyeth their merchandise any more:
14And the fruits that thy soul lusted after are departed from thee, and all things which were dainty and goodly are departed from thee, and thou shalt find them no more at all.
17For in one hour so great riches is come to nought. And every shipmaster, and all the company in ships, and sailors, and as many as trade by sea, stood afar off,
18And cried when they saw the smoke of her burning, saying, What city is like unto this great city!
19And they cast dust on their heads, and cried, weeping and wailing, saying, Alas, alas that great city, wherein were made rich all that had ships in the sea by reason of her costliness! for in one hour is she made desolate

Not a pretty picture. As for bible truth, one of the things i know for sure is that verse in Corinthians which says tithing will be rewarded is dead on accurate.

Those are not lies about Obama, they are true with some minor alterations. In Indonesia Obama was listed as a Muslim on his enrollment documents at both schools. He attended the Catholic school first and transferred to the Muslim school. There is no evidence to support the notion the school was a Madrassa or Wahhabi. Under Sharia Law (Muslim) Obama is a Muslim because he was born of a Muslim father and that cannot be changed. To disprove Obama was Muslim CNN asked Obama; Obama said "No". Using that technique Al Capone was not involved in any murders--in court, under oath, Al Capone testified he had never killed anyone. In the eyes of Muslims, Obama is a Muslim---what is he in your eyes? You decide, you have the facts.

McCain or
Huckabee?

It doesn't matter, they both have LIBERAL records.

Neither will get my vote!!!!

Schwarzenegger and McCain are Buddies!
In 2003, the unprincipled Hugh Hewitt supported Arnold Schwarzenegger over Tom McClintock for California’s governorship. See http://www.nationalreview.com/debates/debates091603.asp

Political pragmatism amongst ersatz-conservatives carried the day and Schwarzenegger won the election. Once in office, Arnold betrayed the Republicans, and began to unleash a hideous evil. Five years later, Christians in California have run for the doors. See http://www.californiaexodus.org/

Both Arnold Schwarzenegger and Hugh Hewitt (now that Romney has suspended) have endorsed John McCain. Are Townhall readers too blind to the see the fruit of this compromise and pragmatism??

A look at Huckabee's Cabinet
It may be time to start looking to the future. What would Huckabee's satirical cabinet look like.

I do not hate Huckabee, but I have strong disdain for some of his actions and his words. I am a firm believer in the rule of law. When a man uses his influence to thwart that law by freeing certain criminals to society before it is time, I resent the heck out of that action. When a man who has had numerous ethics charges brought against him as governor goes out of the way to destroy the taxpayer owned hard drives in the executive branch, he has erased all evidence of his good or bad record. What he did was far worse than the 18 minutes of tape Nixon erased. The man is not to be trusted. I can understand why Mormons have trouble embracing this guy.
I see hatred posted by Mormons and Evangelicals all over this board. I feel sorry for the Mormons because they are not allowed to be a part of the Christian club, when I have known some Mormons who by their every day lives are certainly followers of Christ. The Evangelical definition of Christ is too exclusive and hurts these people to be told they are not Christian.
Huckabee has flip flopped on immigration after his statements show preferential treatment for them. I cannot trust this guy on immigration because of his record. I cannot trust him on government growth because of his record.
I do not hate Huckabee, he seems a good man. I hate his record and his disingenuousness.

There are alot of dim bulbs on
this blog, or they are anti-Republican operatives.

To say there is no difference between McCain and Huckabee, is the height of stupidity.

Please morons, quit wasting our time with your
divisive lies.

Remember Republican leaders, these few hate mongers attacking Huckabee and McCain want only one thing, a Republican defeat in November.

Huckabee and McCain would both make better apresident then Billary or B. Hussein Obama.

So, that is how you know the non-Republican posters. Their words betray them. They want a Democrat victory in November.

Ignore the Democrat hatemongers!!!
Support a Republican candidate.

How do you know who the Democrat hatemongers are?

They want the Republicans to lose in November.

If someone won't vote for the Republican nominee, a Republican would have to be as stupid as they are to listen to them!!!!

STOP MCCAIN - VOTE HUCHABEE

.....Don't listen to the "experts" who keep saying that it is mathematically impossible for Huckabee to win enough votes for the nomination ...that may be true but he can win enough votes to stop McCain and to force a brokered convention where anything is possible ...

.....In all the remaining primaries registered Republicans should turn out to vote for Huckabee ...at the least it will be a protest vote against McCain ...and at the best it could force a Brokered Convention ...Vote Huckabee .....COLOSSUS

Virginia and Maryland heavily McCain
Real Clear Politics is listing polls in VA and MD after the Romney suspension that have McCain with 30+% leads.

http://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/2008/president/va/v irginia_republican_primary-506.html

Kansas gave 36 delegates to Huckabee. LA hasn't awarded any because no one got 50%. WA went slightly to McCain. However Paul and Romney had enough votes that they might pick up some of those delegates. Huckabee is going to have to have much more impressive wins to garner the delegates for a brokered convention.

Conservative v Moderate v Socialist
I believe the Conservative will be a better choice than a Moderate who will be better than a Socialist for POTUS.

Our country has been burdened with Socialist minded people since the FDR New Deal that was the begining of the welfare state and Social Security.

The Great Society of the sixties, produced by LBJ, opened the doors for the Civil Rights movement by Reverand Martin Luther king, Jr. to be signed into law and great strides by many ambitious Black men and women began .

After Rev. MLK, Jr. was assasinated his movement was taken over by race baiters who were only interested in wealth and fame for themselves.

Consequently a lack of education, single parent homes with babies born out of wedlock, minimum wages, crime, refusing responsibility for their actions, both Black and White families have been held in poverty by welfare and medicaid.

However, there have been many successes by those who chose to become educated and released by the stranglehold of poverty and welfare to create a better life for themselves and their families.

Every country in the world that has chosen Marxism, Socialism, Communism, Fascism has failed or is failing. Europe is struggling to convert to Capitalism along with several Asian and former Communist states.

Perhaps with this bit of information you can determine the Robin Hood Syndrome (Socialist), robbing from the rich, who pay your wages, to give to the poor who refuse to do the work illegal aliens do and rob from everyone else in our country is most certainly an ignorant choice.

2nd choice all around.
BUT at least I could hold my nose while voting for Huckabee, I wouldn't even cast it for McCain.
Oh don't get me wrong, I would make SURE that the Senator and Representative were my first priority anyway, because they can thwart the president at every turn, BUT McCain lost ANY respect I might of had for him, when he said "we were bigots" for NOT wanting to have our country overrun with illegal aliens. All FOR LEGAL immigrants, but the ones who came in the WRONG way with NO health checks, NEVER do I want you as my fellow citizen!!! NOT EVER!
Why would I ever believe that you respected MY country, the one that my family since the 1630's fought and died for???

Huickabee
At best, Huckabee is a RINO. He may be a very fervent Christian but his behavior is that of a RINO. Being pro-life does not make a Republican. One needs to enact smaller government, lower taxes, let people keep what they earn (There's a story that teaching people to fish is more valuable than just feeding them for a day). This story demands teaching people to fend for themselves. Huckabee's tax policies in AK did not teach people to fend for themselves.

He's very weak on far too many other critical items today. While it's good to keep Republicans in the news, it would have been far more beneficial for Romney to remain than Huckabee.

Really, what is Huckabee's objective? More power, more power, more power.

Conservative Christians alone cannot win the POTUS race. Republicans are a welcoming tent of ideas, the Dems are a welcoming tent of outer description. We welcome Christians but are not exclusively limited to them.

ERAN

.....Voting for Huckabee in the remaining Primaries keeps McCain from getting the necessary delegates he needs to lock up the nomination and it will force a brokered convention which is the only chance Conservatives have to stop McCain .....COLOSSUS

Ridiculous
This is maybe the worst 'analysis' I have seen during this campaign. It is not good for the GOP two have to liberals still in the race. One is ignorant when it come to economic policy and the other in national defense.

Huck is actually the worst of the two. He is frightening when it comes to foriegn policy and liberal on fiscal policy. Look at his record not his rhetoric. Where are the flip-flop cries. Was it that 'flip-flop' was code for Mormon? I think it was.

An alternative
In my opinion, Mike Huckabee is not a realistic alternative to McCain. His past political record is nearly as seedy, just in a different way. Huckabee's governing and political behavior is heavily left, although he is an excellent orator, nearly as good as Obama, who manages to capture millions of voters without any iota of a solid platform.

On the conservative spectrum, he might be a tad right of McCain -- but "a tad" is not enough for millions of us, especially those of us who do not want any tampering with the language of the Constitution to make it more Biblically consistent.

My guy was Hunter until he left. Then it was Thompson until he left. I voted in the primary for Romney, and then he left. I never really supported Tancredo, but I have watched the GOP sink 4 excellent conservatives. If McCain gets the nomination and Ron Paul runs as an independent, as I suspect, I will absolutely vote for him. Never for McCain and never for Huckabee -- they are WAY too left-leaning for my tastes.

Reaching across the aisle occasionally is one thing, but these guys make camp there.

The watered down party
Republicans are a welcoming tent of ideas, the Dems are a welcoming tent of outer description.
And that is exactly why the Republican party has failed Conservatives and real Republicans alike. The Republican Party has allowed itself to become so watered down, so bastardized that it bears no resemblance to the former late great Republican Party that even conservative were proud to be part of.

Now there is little difference between the so called Republican Party and the Democratic Party, they both tax, they both spend, they both undermine the Constitution and federalism and they both have become a self perpetrating failure to the American people.

We like an under-dog
That is a great article. It is fun watching Huckabee win states after the media says that he doesn't have a chance.

I'm disappointed in the negative comments. Our country was founded by Christians who wanted freedom to worship for all people (even the non-Christians). If you disagree with Christianity, then you are allowed to do so thanks to our freedom.

Rayfinn, did Mitt's record
give you pause?

The true Conservative left...Ron Paul!
Bluerev, you are one of the few sane voices on this blog.

The rand about McCain, Huckabee at this point is irresponsible from true republican standpoint.
What happened to real conservatism in America?
I would love to read things the town-hall staff come up with, in the case
of Ron Paul winning the nomination…
If you guys think McCain or Huckabee have a chance to win with democratic nominee, think twice.
It is almoust obvious at this point, that the only candidate, having chance to defeat democrats is Ron Paul. It’s time the republican camp start preparing itself for this possibility and starts talking to Ron Paul instead of ignoring him..
It’s not over until is over..

STOP MCCAIN
If everyone who has not yet voted or had a caucus, vote for Huckabee - at least his votes may stop a McCain noimination and then we can get a brokered convention which we need desperately. Why anyone who believes in the values of this country and the conservative movement would cast a vote for McCain is beyond my comprehension. He is a democrat in POW clothing! I admire anyone in the military but that does not automatically qualify for presidency of this nation. McCain has joined with Democrats to push the worst amnesty bill (stats say over 20 Million illegals - Mexico says closer to 40 - who are being supported by taxpayers to the tune of over 300 Billion dollars - McCain/Feingold which cuts your free speech during elections - the Keating 5 - one of two Republicans to vote against tax cuts - and you want this hot tempered, vile man to lead this country? We need to rise up and somehow stop him. There are no choices out there - McCain who will anger more people, Billary(the most corrupt duo who ever lived in the White House) and Osama/Obama who is the most liberal of the trio...Huckabee right now by staying in could save the nation from the dirty three....He is not my first choice, but he's better than the others. Hate to compromise but cannot in all good conscience vote for McCain -

Brokered Convention
All the comments about a brokered convention reminds me of an old Ronald Reagan story about the kid who wants a pony for christmas and on christmas day finds a big stack of horse excrement. The kid grabs a shovel and desperately starts digging. When his Mom and Dad ask why he is digging, the young kid explains "there has got to be a pony somewhere under here."

A brokered convention/open convention or whatever you want to call it is simply not going to happen. For it to occur, Mike Huckabee would need to win 93% of the remaining delegates. Since McCain won Washington on Saturday, the math starts to get worse. Also, there are no delegates awarded from Louisanna because state party rule requires that before the delegates are awarded, a candidate needs to hit a 50% threshold. Any chance for a brokered/open convention died when McCain won all but 3 of the congressional districts in California. Coupled with his wins in the big winner take all states (New York, New Jersey) and his California like win in Illinois, plus a win in Missouri, makes the road to McCain not getting the necessary number a 7 in 100 chance.

Huckabee can win
Huckabee can beat Obama or Cinton in a debate. McCain, not so sure. People will see McCain as more of the same, not so with Huckabee.
As for the mormons calling me a bigot because I don't believe as you, that makes you a bigot. The rest of you are un-informed, or believe mis-information about Hucakbee. Some of you just hate Christians. Huckabee is closest to the founders of this country than any other candidate.
Romney is a liberal. He is for gun control, for destroying embryos, for mandating to the states healthcare, will not further the pro-life movement. This from his lips, in this campaign. Doesn't sound like he wants strict constitutionalists on the Supreme Court.
Huckabee is consistently conservative. He has values, something Romney does not.

Huckabee's comments about
Romney's religion were taken out of context by a press trying to create a controversy. Huckabee is more liberal than I'd like, but he's no traitor (Gang of 14) like McCain. He's the only orator who can beat Obama at his own game. Paul is NOT making a 3rd party run and in fact is scaling back his presidential efforts to concentrate on getting reelected. Huckabee is the only hope we have. And 7 out of 100 is not NO chance.

Oh, another thing
Huckabee has taken the anti-amnesty pledge. McCain refused to do so.

Evidence?
>His[Obama's] mother then married Lolo Soetoro, a RADICAL Muslim from Indonesia.<

Maybe there's some new undefined version of the term RADICAL, especially when it's spelled all in caps.

Can anyone, anywhere provide one sliver of evidence that Obama's step-father did anything that would merit calling him a RADICAL Muslim, like promoting jihad against the West, engineering suicide vests or car bombings, or even making his wife wear a burka and head scarf.

If I were to say that Laura Bush married a RADICAL Christian, you'd think me the radical. Yet, there's more evidence that Bush is a RADICAL Christian than there is that Obama's step-father was a RADICAL Muslim.

Context
Huckabee's words about Mormons were taken out of context?

You mean the words he spoke as a keynote speaker at the Southern Bigo..errr.. Baptist Convention in SLC in 1998, denouncing Mormonism as a dangerous cult?

Pancho
I didn't know about those. I was referring to his recent interview. I think his current stand is the more important.

To King Liberal
Perhaps you live in the South, or in a small town or rural area somewhere, in a place where Christian Evangelists are considered normal and mainstream. Please try to understand that in the larger context of this country, they are viewed as a lunatic fringe of religious extremists. We are a secular nation. We were founded as a secular nation. When Huckabee said that he intended to take back this country for Jesus Christ, he disqualified himself for public office. The Evangelists want their own narrow standards written into law and forced upon all Americans. There is absolutely no way that non-Evangelists of either party would accept that.

Do the correct thing Huck.
The absense of enthusiasm among Republicans is overwhelming. It does seem that Obama is a candidate of destiny, with the sheer numbers of supporters and money flowing to him. His public speaking and ability to convey complex concepts in flowing rhetoric is magnetic. In the meantime we Republicans are acting like children having a game of softball with the owner of the only softball walking away because the game is not completely going his way.

Nonetheless, Huckabee should withdraw and Republicans should then attempt to build enthusiasm about McCain. There is no enthusiasm that can build around Huckabee; he has shown himself to be a witty but not wise politician clothed in religious garb.

King Liberal
You may well be right about the GOP being over.

But, let's back up a minute. McCain has angered all 3 legs of the Republican stool. He's spoken about "tax cuts for the rich" (economic leg), not being upset if Roe V Wade wasn't overturned, (social conservatives leg), and then the main leg (which I don't have a good name for) has many reasons to be unhappy with him: immigration, hamstringing the war effort, Gang of 14, McCain-Feingold, etc.

So, basically, a decision has been made to do without the far right of all 3 legs and to replace them with Independents. That's a losing strategy as Independents are notoriously fickle and unreliable.

I disagree with Lily and swamper
I'm not an Evangelical, but I can support Huckabee. And swamper, we on the far-right are never going to even vote for McCain, much less show any enthusiasm for him.

Huckabee sold out to McCain
During the South Carolina primaries, something happened. All of a sudden, and ever since, Huckabee turned into McCain's attack dog against Romney. Why? I believe Huckabee was offered the VP slot. So truthfully, Huckabee hasn't been running for President in over a month! It's all been a charade!

Look at the history! McCain played sleazy politics on Romney, distortions, half-truths and down right lies. Mr. "Run a race with honor" was silent about McCain and continued to blast Romney, who after Florida, wasn't even the front runner. Never a bad word about McCain.

Huckabee will continue the race just to get more notice. But I can promise you, come VP time, it will NOT be Huckabee.

McCain will win Arkansas without the Huck. McCain's VP will be from a State that is going to be considered a must-win State for McCain.

Welcome to hardball politics good ole boy Huckabee, you were used and abused. You sold out your campaign, your morals and ethics and then got slammed by the man you became a prostitute for. I used to have such respect for Huckabee, but when the pedal hit the metal, he became a two-faced politician over night.

It was electorate manipulation at it's worst if you ask me.

howdy, hacksomore
Good grief,
"Romney's religion were taken out of context by a press trying to create a controversy. Huckabee is more liberal than I'd like, but he's no traitor (Gang of 14) like McCain."

Not nice to smoke such stuff, Hackamore. First: You're stupid and uninformed if you think McCain's a traitor. WAY outta line, Pal!

"[Huck's] the only orator who can beat Obama at his own game."

I don't follow you. Huckabee is a southern pastor, not an orator. Nothing says it all better than to give Obama the word: You're an ultra-Left radical and the voting record proves it: a "choice" champion who voted AGAINST the ban on barbarous infanticide among other negative points. You haven't even flipped that disgusting proclivity. McCain can easily make that slam dunk. (Obama isn't going to be President; He's now a silk purse; our Commander-in-Chief will make him out the sow's ear he even resembles today.) Orator ! Give us a BREAK !

"Huckabee is the only hope we have. And 7 out of 100 is not NO chance."

OK, that's better than totally empty. How can it become more apparent he's running for a place on the ticket from here to the convention >>>> ? Vice President, and even that much is close to NO chance.

dreadnaught
you are the one who is stupid and uninformed if you think McCain isn't a traitor to the party.

We can only speculate as to why Huckabee is staying in; it's pretty apparent that he's not going to get the VP nod as McCain has said he wants someone with his same philosophy. Perhaps he has Liebermann in mind.

Just remember, if McCain doesn't have a majority of the REGULAR delegates going into the convention then all bets are off. The delegates will be free to vote for whomever they want. It doesn't even have to be McCain OR Huckabee.

Rufus:
I do agree that Huckabee leans more toward socialism or more commonly a populist. But, don't put all Christians in the same catagory. That is called being a bigot.
I am Christian and I don't agree at all with Huckabee's mindset. If you don't like him, don't like him, not a whole people group. That is the same as saying -all blacks are ________. Or all Hispanics are _______. Or all Mormons are _____, or all athiests are _______.

we're doomed
Gov. Huckabee is not above criticism, but I'm afraid the level of the attacks represented here reflects an enthusiastic ignorance that could decide our future.

I just can't get over the irony that the very people who demand tolerance for unorthodox beliefs and lifestyles are the first ones to attack anyone who upholds traditional morality and a belief in God. It is disheartening to see that so many people believe tolerance is a one-way street.

If these people would spend as much time actually learning about Gov. Huckabee's positions as they do condemning him, I think they would come to a different conclusion.

pancho
There is more evidence that President Bush is a RADICAL christian???

Please tell us what that evidence is.
Did you read that in the alley where you live?
We've seen rocks smarter than you.

Huckabee: I don’t want to be VP?
Will Huckabee be on the ticket as a VP?

MSN-How does being vice president sound? Republican presidential contender Mike Huckabee on Sunday called it the office that no one would refuse but also one that he doesn’t want or expect.

“No I really don’t,” the former Arkansas governor said when asked if he wanted to be vice president — assuming that Republican front-runner Sen. John McCain won the November election.

“I’m not going to be asked. It’s pretty evident that there would be a whole lot of people on the list long before me and one of them would say yes,” he added.

I was going to say something similar but you did a good job with it.

You left out one other possibility though,

The could also be supporters of former candidates who are just bitter because their candidate is no longer in the race and exhibiting sore looser attitudes.

The childish, school yard, liberal like name calling has become all to common over the past year or so since the 2008 election cycle has started. If those who engage in such behavior are truly conservative then the conservative movement is in more danger of self destruction than domination under a liberal controlled government.

I agree with the author of the column, if you like Huckabee or not we need a two man race to maintain some debate on the conservative side till after the conventions or the Democrats will dominate the news coverage. In this case no news from the conservative side is bad news for building support.

Watch it, hon.

Your elitisism is showing again. You may want to leave your NY apartment every now and then and take a good look around.

Hmmm. I was going to vote Romney or write in Tancredo next Tuesday. Maybe I'll vote for the slimy huckster if it will help bring about a brokered convention. Something to think about.

King Liberal
First, I disagree that the Republican party is "moving further to the right". Both parties have moved steadily to the Left for the last 100 years. To say otherwise is to lack historical perspective.

But it is precisely Huckabee's economic populism that will give him broad appeal to Independents and Reagan Democrats. In fact, Americans all across the political spectrum are distrustful of the globalists free-trade ideas.

nonsense, hackamore
Nobody can be held captive to the party he chose to represent. Being a traitor is simply becoming an enemy; to Christ (Judas) or your country (Benedict Arnold, the spooks in past Communist cells in America.)

You are trying to brand someone who patently wouldn't kowtow to groups within our party. Just don't vote for him, Sir. As for this point:

"McCain has said he wants someone with his same philosophy. Perhaps he has Liebermann in mind." PLEASE! He's never said such a thing. (There can't even be someone who fits that part; Liebermann either."

"f McCain doesn't have a majority of the REGULAR delegates going into the convention then all bets are off. The delegates will be free to vote for whomever they want." --OK Dick Tracy; all bets are on today. Don't impose your conditions on the entire GOP yet.

I think we need to give up on Paul
Voting for him in the winner-take-all states instead of Huckabee will do positive harm; and I say that as someone who finds many of his ideas appealing.

We've got to get on the same page, folks, if we're going to get a brokered convention.

Interesting speculations, and making a lot of sense. Not that the Rockefeller wing was ever a big part of talk radio listenership. Recent voting results have conveyed a lot of new information subject to lots of interpretations. One thing i perceive, with chagrin, is how few principled conservatives there are. Someone said we are assuming a position similar to the black folks who vote more or less monolithically Demoratic. I would say there is some truth to this, but conservatives tend to be much more critical of their candidate than yellow dog Dems who vote ticket, not individual. Despite all the sneers at the Religious right, and principled small govt conservatives (mean-spirited racist homophobe misogynists to some :-D) it will be difficult for the GOP to elect anyone without us.

Funny you say that. I've always felt a degree of North vs South in the words used by a lot of the Huckabee haters.

The elite of the conservative movement have a hard time accepting a conservative who wasn't born into the ideals and had them ingrained in them from an early age but managed to develop conservative ideals though hard work and Faith.

Some of our best presidents have been those who managed to achieve success despite the odds against them.

Huckabee has been an underdog since day one, except for a brief surge of popularity in November, which the conservative elites and media pundits quickly tried to squash by forcing Romney down our throats.

Bluerev calling Baseball doc
I understand your "strategery" and it has a certain appeal because, like you, I believe that McCain must be stopped. However, I have voted for the lesser of two evils for the last time. (I'm not calling Huckabee the Spawn of Satan but I disagree with him on too many issues to support him.)

You said, ".....In the upcoming Primaries a vote for Paul = a vote for McCain ..."

My reply: I could just as easily say "a vote for HUCKABEE = a vote for McCain". I believe that either candidate would beat McCain in a one-on-one Republican contest. I prefer to say "a vote for Paul = a vote for sound money + lower taxes + secure borders + individual freedom".

You said,"....What Paul supporters need to do is to vote for Huckabee to deny McCain the nomination and force a brokered Convention ..."

My reply: Paul supporters and all lovers of liberty need to vote for Paul.

You said,".....A (brokered?)Convention would give Paul supporters a forum to make their case to the delegates ...if McCain wraps up the nomination in the Primaries then Paul won't get that chance ....."

My reply: "NOTHING in the the Republican establishment's treatment of Dr Paul suggests to me that they will allow Dr Paul to speak unless HE brings enough delegates to the convention. They have treated him and his supporters as pariahs. They will invite Romney, Thompson, Guiliani, Huckabee and perhaps even Brownback to speak but Ron Paul will be sitting with the Texas delegation throughout the proceedings. Yesterday's results suggest to me that there are enough anti-McCain votes to go around. Regardless, I want Paul's message of liberty to be heard. Giving up to support Huckabee's version of the "nanny state" is something that I will not do. I suspect there are many more like me out there.

Huckabee - Bow out for Good of GOP
Unfortunately for a myriad of reasons, Mr. Huckabee might do well to sit and consider some salient facts about himself. A) He has aligned himself with Anti-Catholic groups. The Bible Belt isn't nearly as intolerant as it was 150 years ago. And Catholics DO vote Republican as well as Democrat. B) He alienated Police Officers and State Prosecutors when he tried to use his powers as Governor to cover up his eldest son's animal abuse while at Boy Scout camp. That the boy later made Eagle doesn't negate the fact that Huckabee pressured people to cover up a crime. C) As Governor of Arkansas, he pardoned more felons that former Gov & Pres Clinton. D) He is not Vice Presidential (or Cabinet) material with A through C above (and I'm sure he has even more skeletons in his closet which will bring him down as soon as the Media stops toying with him and gets serious about digging into his past).

If Huckabee is half the "Christian" he purports to be, he'll step aside for the good of the Party. The USofA doesn't need a man hiding behind the white sheet and pointy hat of "Baptist Preacher" representing us unless he's squeaky clean, which Huckabee is not.

This isn't like shopping for a dishwashe
Dr. Stokes has said what I was thinking, except better.

Picking a president has important humand factors.

It's not not so right brain like buying a new car or something.

pandm
It's rational to think that invading another country that poses no threat you security, with no exit strategy or basic knowledge of the cultural and religious elements of said country is a radical move.

Now, please provide evidence that Obama's step-father has done anything that could be considered radical by a rational person, which obviously you're not.

Now that's funny
I don't care WHO you are.

Healthy debate
"Very healthy"... indeed, finally a voice of sanity. Though it may taste like bitter medicine to McCain. But hey, I recall not enjoying McAmnesty being forced down our throats.

Right, if McCain is the nominee, not only will people dream for a better communicator; voters will be so sick of hearing the same postured talking points and speeches they will choose the commercials. Lets hope he keeps speeches_ the speech_ to a minimum. A great orator McCain is not. And a Party communicator? That is a laugh.

str8t talk,

I have no patience with a smart-@ss who breezily takes in vain the name of the SON of GOD,

And then wastes bandwidth here and where ever he goes with his boring drivel. Hope this moron steps on a rusty nail today. (Figure of speech, Jesus.)

Huckabee continuing the race
I fully agree with you that Mike Huckabee should stay in the race. I get tired of people saying he should drop out. I don't like McCain and I don't like someone telling me I should be for him. Like you say "we have a long way to go before the convention". Let's see what happens.

due process
Its like, after one benefits in the process they’d like to change the way it works. McCain jabbed Romney in the debate for his ads saying, “you can spend all your money” if you want. It was a sore spot for McCain that someone was actually campaigning against him – who knew that would ever happen? (Isn’t there a law about that, somewhere?…hmmm).

Huckabee should stay in the Race
Yes, Huckabee should stay in the race. He is the most frugal candidate in the race, and we need someone to intervene on our behalf against the Washington Big Spenders. Lobbyists and big business interests have overwhelmed the interests of the people of this country. Secondly, he knows how to campaign and utilize grassroots supporters. His campaign has surged from no where to second with the enthusastic involvement of his volunteer supporters. Third, we all deserve a chance to vote for the republican nominee; even if Huckabee is a long shot, I appreciate his tenacity. He is authentic and likeable and can attract those not usually friendly to the party and the youth vote.

McCain is NOT INEVITABLE
If other states that haven't voted yet don't let him get the delegates he needs, his train has to idle on a sideline. Meantime, conservatives- tell the RNC WE WILL NOT ACCEPT MC, we DEMAND a true conservative, who will rise by the convention. We defeated Ted and Mc's immigration debacle, we do not have to accept the McC garbage now being shoved on us! We are free Americans- fight for what we want! Don't leave it to the RNC or the MSM.

God can derail McCain anytime in any way; no one is promised tomorrow. Anything can happen in 9 months, even the birth of a new conservative choice.

One more thing -
I do not have anything against Gov. Romney's religion, but I do have a problem with his claiming to be a conservative. He has said, when running for governor, that he was more like an independent and would not continue any Reagan policies. Additionally, he said that he was more liberal than Ted Kennedy on the issue of gay rights. He was pro-choice and signed into law a bill providing government payment for abortion with a $50.00 copay. These are not the views of a conservative. He is a big-business advocate who wants to ship more of our jobs off-shore, make more profit for large corporations, and dissolve the shrinking middle-class of this country. For those reasons, I could never vote for Romney.

In fairness
to John McCain, this would be something different for him: actually opposing the liberal agenda rather than making backroom deals with them.

Economics
DollarBuilder is running polls on which candidates would be best for our economy. Both Huck and McCain are getting blown out by the Dems:

http://dollarbuilder.blogspot.com

I think that Huck should stay in for lots of reasons. Americans should have a choice between a liberal and a conservative. People say that Huck is soft on immigration and taxes, but he has the strongest position on illegal immigration and he is for the fair tax. It would be impossible to be more conservative!

To all of the Adults Here
We should all flag everything that "Jesus H Christ" says as offensive. On top of his "handle" which is studiously insulting to many of us here, he made a statement that is beyond any bounds of human decency: "i hope someone ties you up and rapes your children in front of you".

That he is a democrat does not excuse his statement.

Let's send him back to the "Daily Kos" where his ilk belong.

Bluerev: Agreed....

a consistent conservative?
I have little in sync with "Christian conservatives" on much of their social agenda, but Amnesty Juan has also jabbed his wagging gadfly finger in their eyes in the past calling them intolerant, etc. Similarly, he called those among us who derailed the scamnesty plan with his name on it "racist" and "nativist" because he wanted to suck up to Hispanics for votes, the country be dammed. Juan McVain thought seriously about officially bolting to become a 'Crat, and his thought process is over on their side regardless.

Amnesty John would have us believe, now that he needs us, that he is a "consistent conservative," yet since 2000 he has veered ever leftward, such that only a few RINOS and the 'Crats were left of him on Senate votes per National Journal... hmmm:

http://nationaljournal.com/voteratings/sen/lib.htm

How to explain Kennedy-McAmnesty? And McVain-Feingold? The Gang of 14? Opposing and stalling court appointments including Justice Alito for being "too conservative" because they did not believe in legislating from the bench?

Juan McAmnesty is consistent all right-- and he has been too consistently errant... wandering off the reservation of reason!

NotSure Huck. being (Cons. choice)
There was something in the way he answered a question about biblical issues on a past CNN debate seemed to staged,to planned, not honestly from the heart true beliefs but rehearsed. We've been burned last election George Bush a cons. Christian look what he's doing contrary to the word of God now in giving muslims Jewish land, causing judgment on our land here.Look at how he's been above board very diplomatic with muslim faith calling it a religion of Peace? I do not know Huckabee's stand for Israel at all. His theme song and playing guitar gave me a nightmare flashback of Bill and his saxasphone.
Mccain is in favor of same sex marriage and that is a NoNo to Christians. His past votes on abortion I'm sure is not too favorable. The one candidate I looked favorably on in the past and would like to have know more about is Alan Keyes who made it a point in standing for the Ten Commandments to be displayed proudly as a Foundation for our Country in Law and Truth I would've like to have heard more from him on other issues but We Never Get the ONE's we like in order for the party to carry Moderatism. Who knows what big wheels hold the puppet strings what you see is not always what you get. A lot of Conservatives Have Been Burned to Politics from Compromises to other faiths and Global Political Elitist Push from pres. What have the Candidates spoken on this I don't hear anything?

This snake charmer is a theocratic zealout, and a tax-raising socialist. This disingenous political animal speaks of a "new new deal." For those of you who do not know history, FDR unleased the New Deal on The United States and since then welfarism has brought havoc to our nation. If anyone but Lady Macbeth won the Democratic nomination and Huckabee won the Republican nomination, I would have to consider voting Democratic. First, he should drop out of the race. Then, he should go join the Democratic Party where his socialist ideas would be welcome."

I appreciate your article, including its logic and its spirit. The Republican powers are eager to dismiss Mike Huckabee, or ignore him as much as possible. I believe that to be a huge mistake, and that McCain will not win in November if he is the nominee.

Funny, I went to Mass this morning, and He didn't say a word!

Re: Education, Homeschooling comments
I noticed a few seemingly disparaging comments about Huckabee and homeschooling. I don't know whether Mike was homeschooled or not. I do know that he graduated with a college degree after three years and managed to graduate with honors. As for the inference about the homeschooling issue: My wife is a public school teacher. We believe in the need for good public schools. However, a little research turns up the fact that homeschooled kids often score higher than those turned out by many of today's public schools.

The real bias
The idea that Romney suffered anti-Mormon bias has no basis in fact. South Carolina has the highest population of Southern Baptists in the world yet self-identified evangelicals in SC split their votes evenly between Romney, McCain and Huckabee (who the media reminds us daily was a Southern Baptist minister more than 15 years ago) I'm not seeing any bias there at all. Romney also got equal shares of the evangelical vote in Florida and Missouri. In contrast, Utah went for Romney by almost 90%. So where's the bias? Where's the bigotry?

bias part ii
Every time Huckabee does well, it is downplayed in the media with "well, he just won the evangelical vote." But when Romney won largely Mormon caucuses, the Mormon factor was never mentioned. That's called media bias

I watched all of the debates and never once heard Romney asked a single question about his faith. By contrast, Huckabee was grilled on his beliefs---or simply ignored-- at every debate. I saw Huckabee hounded by the press trying to trap him into saying something negative about Romney's faith. He resisted the bait at every turn.

I guess he finally took the bait when a reporter spent WEEKS with him and earned his trust. The reporter convinced Huckabee that she was somewhat of an 'expert' on Mormonism. So Huckabee asked this so-called expert an honest question. It's a doctrine many non-Mormons find puzzling. I live in a neighborhood that is 90% Mormon and it's my understanding that Mormonism DOES, in fact, teach that both Jesus and Lucifer are spirit children of the Heavenly Father.

Asking a question can hardly be called launching an attack.

bias III
Romney spent tens of millions attacking Huckabee with ads that objective third-party media outlets evaluated and declared patently false.

The most vicious blamed Huckabee for Wayne Dumond's parole--issued by a Democratic paraole board. Governors can't issue parole. They can only offer clemency. Huckabee DENIED clemency to Dumond 3 times! The sentence used in the ad to attack Huckabee was taken from a letter DENYING the clemency request!

final thoughts on bias
Romney had every possible advantage: millions in donations; millions more in his own money; millions funnelled into the 'Club for Growth' and other attack groups by his wealthy friends, plus countless millions worth of free PR from all the conservative talk show hosts. Now he blames flat-broke Huckabee, who was denigrated and ignored by the mainstream media and crucified by the conservative establishment.

Romney lost because he failed to resonate with the American people. He came across as phony. Americans don't like people who seem phony. It had nothing whatsoever to do with being Mormon. The only thing being Mormon did for Romney was insure that he got 90% of the Mormon vote. That's the only bias we witnessed.

Romney dropped out because he didn't want to blow any more of his fortune on a losing proposition. It was a business decision, pure and simple. In the last quarter of his campaign, he had to put in $2 for every $1 donated. Yet even in dropping out, the media gave him a free ride and called him "noble." That's called bias.

We probably won't come to an agreement on the strategy for stopping McCain. However, while reading some of the ignorant and personal attacks that sometimes occur in this forum, I recognize that I am dealing with a person of character.

The following quotation illustrates where I am coming from regarding our conversation:

They tell us, sir, that we are weak; unable to cope with so formidable an adversary. But when shall we be stronger? Will it be the next week, or the next year? .... Sir, we are not weak if we make a proper use of those means which the God of nature hath placed in our power. ....The battle, sir, is not to the strong alone; it is to the vigilant, the active, the brave. Besides, sir, we have no election. If we were base enough to desire it, it is now too late to retire from the contest. There is no retreat but in submission and slavery! ..... What a powerful quote from Patrick Henry.

The truly sad thing is, if he spoke those words today, but had the nerve to speak them IN a church, he'd be discounted as a right-wing kook pandering to uneducated evangelical bigots.

Bluerev right on
I just came in from a gorgeous 75 degree day in Arizona to get a cold drink and catch what some Democrat idiots think they can accomplish on this blog.I suggest that no one answer them and like children who want attention- they will go elsewhere. After this missive, I'm going back out to enjoy my sunny yard!

In the meantime, I urge everyone to tell the RNC loud and clear- WE WILL NOT ACCEPT McCain! We defeated him last year on his amnesty railroad and we'll do it again. Bring on a true conservative candidate and we'll get aboard.

Otherwise, - to repeat- if everyone works toward preventing him from getting enough delegates in states which haven't yet voted, before convention-time we'll identify that candidate we can follow. The USA fought one revolution to gain freedom from a tyrant and we're not likely to bow to a new King John!

I Like Mike!
I like Mike he is not "Perfect," but hey GWB was the Poster Boy of Conservative Republicans and well his record is far from Conservative, so I guess its best to see a persons short comings ahead of time instead of when they are making policy that is absolutely NOT Conservative. Mike indeed has a history of being soft on Immigration, which he has turned around by signing Senator Sessions Pledge. He has a record of being a bit liberal fiscally, but you cant deny that his taxes brought Arkansas out of the Dark Ages! He is absolutely Pro Life, Pro 2nd Amendment, Pro Family, and he is cautious when it comes to Foreign Policy which we Need. So when you put him alongside McCain he is the Most Conservative and the countries only hope!

Huckabee=Elmer Gantry - I agree
While admitting that I have, of course, never met Huckabee, my "gut" impression from what he has said and done in this campaign tells me that he is a fraud, a charlatan using our Lord to get elected and is a mean, hate-filled man.

I also am alarmed by his comments about the
Constitution being amended to follow the Bible. I am a Christian but that REALLY concerns me and I can only imagine how non-believers would vote should he get the nomination.

I'm not happy with McCain but I prefer him to Huckabee. Sad state of affairs when those are our only two viable choices.

McCain played Huckabee like a violin
When Huckabee loses, it will be his own fault. McCain played him like a violin. After Romney launched some negative ads, like all successful politicians do, Huckabee agreed to a "non-aggression" pact with McCain where each wouldn't run negative ads against the other. Meanwhile, McCain's supporters in the East Coast Republican media tore Huckabee to pieces with every vicious, negative smear in the book. McCain whispered that it all came from Romney, and apparently Huckabee & supporters believed that lie.

Huck was apparently won over by the thought that a real live war hero had spoken to him, and made a deal. One Republican columnist remarked that it looked like Huck had a "boy crush" on McCain. That agreement allowed McCain to skip on to victory.

immigrants v. immigration
There's a big difference between being soft on immigrants and being soft on illegal immigration. Go to YouTube and watch Huckabee's speech to CPAC. He gives a wonderful analogy.

No one appreciates someone breaking into their house....but if you put the ladder up against your window and wave the thieves in, you can hardly blame them.

Governors have NO CONTROL over our disastrous national immigration policy. All they can do is cope with the immigrants that have climbed the ladder put up by the US Federal Government. Huckabee chose to approach it as a pragmatic leader, rather than a demagogue. He chose to demonstrate common-sense driven compassion (offering scholarship opportunities to immigrants who EARNED them by superior academic performance--it wasn't a hand out)

As President, he has pledged to take down the ladder and stop inviting people to break into this country. That's the important point!

Being compassionate to immigrants 'waved in' by the Bush/NAFTA gang is a far cry from being soft on illegal immigration. Don't confuse the two.

Research records not supp. characters
Having a baptist degree does not spell conservatism these days. Some Baptists are becoming lenient on homesexuality these days one of their conference in Texas I hear. Jessica Simpson singer, reality star her daddy was a former baptist minister now he's prostituting his daughers on the airwaves for the almighty dollar. Being a former veteran does not equal patriotism and good old fashioned values. A man's actions speak further then their words. How did they vote, who's their buddies, what decisions did they make in life. I know the man went through some stuff in a prison camp and stood up for patriotism but would he vote for a homesexual marriage and bring our nation one step further to debauchery and sinfullness. Lying to cover up your son's actions using deceipt and power doesn't sound too righteous to me. Honesty and godliness speak further into their character. By their fruits you shall know them.

ModM & JH
When I made that comment, it was an actual quote by more than one New Yorker that has been to TX, OK & KS regarding the three states, by saying "Where are the cowboys and Indians?" I am part Native American, although I don't look it, I took on the fairer hair of my ancestry. Those who usually don't frequent these states don't realize we have modern amenities, except much cleaner air and less polluted minds.

I hope you'd be loaning them that ammo from the business end of whatever weapon they want to "borrow."

That's the only way to make sure they "get the point."

Don't foreclose on the democratic proces
McCain's supporters would like to crown him as the GOP nominee right now. Are the bigshot politicos and pundits afraid of letting the democratic process play out? Are they afraid of that the little people will make choices they don't approve of?

Huck's Backlash Vote Short Lived
I like Mike, but the "backlash" vote against Mac will fade in Virginia, Maryland, and DC, and Huck will have to measure if it helps or hurts his own future should he start coming in a distant second.

I still wish folks had backed Huck as the conservative/moderate instead of supporting Mitt. Now we have a moderate/conservative in Mac. But Mac is okay by me. The claims that Mitt is a conservative all around are spurious to "social-leg" conservatives.

Huckabee's got a lot
of negatives that would ensure he's torn to pieces in a general campaign. He a preacher from the "Religious Right", played fast and loose with the gift box at the Governor's mansion, etc. Didn't we lose an election a couple of years ago because of the MSM going after the sleazy Republicans? His campaign fund raising and campaign organization is just short of a joke. He's having a good time, obviously. So glad. My guess is that if he's the nominee the electoral college results will look a lot like Johnson-Goldwater, and Huckabee won't be playing the part of Johnson. Sad to say we just tossed the best candidate.

donna winney
Well, set's just see what happens.

Huckabee still doesn't much of a chance. The fact that he has any chance at all is only due to Romney suspending his campaign. Otherwise, Romney and Huckabee would be splitting the conservative vote and McCain would be stacking up enough votes to become the nominee before the convention.

Inasmuch as you like Huckabee, YOU SHOULD BE THANKING MITT ROMNEY for taking the high road! Remember, in most states, Romney ran far ahead of Huckabee. Huckabee got WV only because of McCain's strategy to take Romney out.

I can't stand McCain and would have happily voted for Romney, Thompson or Huckabee (in that order).

With a lot of luck, Huckabee could beat McCain or, maybe it will force the final decision into the convention. Then maybe we will get a chance to support the best cantidate we have seen for a while: Mitt Romney

Alex
I agree that we probably just lost our best cantidate. The fault lies in the primary vote setup, not the votors or the cantidates. Romney, Thompson, Hunter and Huckabee split the conservative vote and Paul siphoned off the far right, putting McCain in the lead. State conventions or caucuses are much better because they provide (or should provide) for more than one vote.

The best system is "vote for two" to boil it down to two cantidates, then a run off vote to decide the winner.

Had that been done, we would have a very different situation today. Romney would have won in Iowa, NH, Fl, WV, CA, WA and AZ and probably CO in addition the states he did win and Huckabee probably would have won in the South as he did.

Another Character Trait
Governor Huckabee is demonstrating a character trait I can appreciate. He doesn't cut and run.

Hockey Mom
How very true, so sublime! ;) Ha ha! Thanks for the "tip." LOL

I agree, Wally.
Up through Super Tuesday Romney had 7+ million primary & state delegate votes to McCain's 8+ million (or maybe it was 8 to 9). Anyway, Huckabee had half as many as McCain, but it was enough to be a spoiler. My guess is that Huckabee was angling to get enough votes to make a convention deal to be VP on the McCain ticket. Now, of course, McCain doesn't have to do that. Well, the "winner take all" approach is designed to get an early candidate. So that's what it's apparently done. Of course, McCain could still do something that throws open the convention. Maybe.

"Another Character Trait
Governor Huckabee is demonstrating a character trait I can appreciate. He doesn't cut and run."

OR... MAYBE HE'S JUST FULL OF HIMSELF!

Huckabee
illustrates the power of the religious right, and more power to them. So long as the GOP is to the right of the Dems, the possibility of a strong RR vote is there. Mark Foley, inept Republicans, and wily Democrats sent them home in 06. Huck shows what they can do when given someone to vote for. However, too much a candidate of the RR faces backlash from those who quaintly fear a theocracy. Fortunately for the rest of the right, its fairly easy to find a candidate satisfactory to the RR and cultural values voter. Conservatives are tougher. There are some people they just will not vote for.

The other thing
of course is Huckabee's name. If he's on the ticket some Democrat will mention Governor "Huckleberry" and the MSM will repeat it and he'll be a laughing stock. Remember what happened to Dan Quayle over a spelling word.

Hockey Mom
Another thing, I would have to do a thorough background check on JH as I don't believe that he/she could PASS inspection. I passed mine so easy the guy said "They think you're as good as gold." is quite correct. Although I personally have serious issues with Huckabee, there are not as many as McCain. Everyone must vote Huckabee from here on out as a protest vote against McCain. We may not be able to stop him but, we can darn sure keep it exciting.

I give it about the same odds as the republicans winning in November, slim to none. The party has become too infested with children willing to put their faith in Santa Claus. I see little difference between any of the four remaining except Obama. His followers scare me. They would drink the koolaid if he asked them.

John McCain - vietnamn vet Santa

Mike Huckabee - pastor Santa

Hillary Clinton - Mrs. Claus

Barak Obams - Santa deserves our worship and should replace Jesus.

Conservatives still rule
Fact: there are more conservatives than Moderates in the Republican Party. Fact: Romney has suspended his campaign not relenquished it. He still controls his delegates. If Mitt conservatives would vote for Huck in the winner- take-all states McCain won't get the delegates he needs. In the porpotional states, just vote for your favorite. Then McCain will have to choose one of them as VP or maybe.... Mitt and Huck will work together to end McCains bid. Think of that.

Need some help bro? I probably got a few laying around.

writes, "Mitt and Huck will work together to end McCains bid. Think of that."

I like it. Let's make it happen. If we could learn to stick together as a group sans party, we might get situations like this. Newt's speech at CPAC noted this. He's put together a rather suprising list of conservative planks that garner widespread support among member of both parties and independents. Check it out.

Pay no attention to the false prophet
Please don't feed the troll.

He is soon to become a non-entity here.

"McCain played him like a violin."
If so, he's about as familiar with the instrument as I am (I played the trombone 'til out of HS, 20-some-odd years ago; I couldn't tell you the names of the parts of a violin). It's kind of looking like Huckabee played Mcain against Romney, not the other way around.

Yesterdays results proved, yet again, that McCain can only win in states the Democrats are virtually certain to control in November. Even then, he usually gets only a split-opposition- provided plurality. Ridiculously too-far-in-advance polls to the contrary, McCain CANNOT win the general election, barring a performance by the Dem's candidate that makes Inspector Closeau look like Fred Astair.

While I don't think Huckabee is much better than McCain ("This is the attack ad I've decided not to use"- give me a break! Maybe it's an Arkansas thing?), if he can grab enough delegates to prevent McCain from reaching the magic number, the convention may turn into something we conservatives can live with. While a genuine 3-stool conservative would be nice at this point, rather than McCain, I'd settle for someone who is reliably REPUBLICAN.

What's Right With Hope
Hope and happiness seem to be on Huckabee's side. Haven't you noticed? Huckabee's people are happy. They're hopeful people. What could be better for America than to let the world see that Americans are happy, hopeful people?

Huckabee has begun a dialogue with many foreign leaders, having visited 40 countries in the past. Don't you know that his infectious personality has already influenced leaders on America's behalf?

The fact that Mike Huckabee has been able to visit over 40 countries, even prior to his bid for Presidency, speaks well of Mike. He is a hard-working, ambitious man who is willing to use his skills as a great communicator to influence the world for the good of America.

The media has been proposing that one reason for Mike to stay in the Presidential race is that he is having the time of his life. May I propose to you that the reason for Mike to stay in the Presidential race goes much deeper. As it is evident that he has a record of being a hard-working man, he's continuing to work hard to become America's next President because he cares deeply about the future of our Nation.

Mc/Huc or Huck/Mc Ticket
is what will beat the democrats this fall. I am hoping Huck stays long enough to earn enough delegates so that Mc can seriously consider him for VP. This joint ticket offers three distinct differences and advantages for us in the fall. First the defense/military experience with Mc. The strong pro-life/marriage with Huck and Mc. The executive experience of Huck as governor coupled with the fact that he has defeated the Clinton machine in Arkansa. We will keep all the red states that Bush won in 2004 and even stand a chance to flip CO and Pensylvania and Colorado. We will get 60% of 45+/seniors, prolife voters, military voters, security voters, whitemen and ALL of the south. GOP wins by a 5-8 point margin.

latebloomer
I think you have it about right except for the fact that Huckabee and Romney would BOTH probably be totally out had it not been for Romney's suspending his campaign. Otherwise, McCain would have likely have gotten CO and VA instead of Huckabee and likely Texas, which he may get anyway.

Romney's suspension of his campaign not only gave Huckabee a chance, it greatly increased the probability that McCain won't reach the magic number and thus re-opens the possibility that Romney himself could be a contender in the convention. Although I don't think Romney planned that as his strategy (not knowing in advance that Huckabee would stubbornly stick in to the bitter end), that seems to be the way it is playing out.

Now that McCain has won in WA, it is even more likely that Huck is history but Huck's wins in CO and VA really hurt McCain. GOOD!

as for: " It's kind of looking like Huckabee played Mcain against Romney, not the other way around."

I don't think so. Huckabee was obviously auditioning for VP by playing stalking horse. Now, he has become a liability to McCain who did play him like a violin until Romney stepped aside.

Huck is the best choice for
conservatives.

HUCKABEE'S INTRANSIGENCE
As President Reagan once told Robert McFarlane, "Going over the cliff, flags flying, is still going over the cliff."
Don’t let the idea of Conservatism take us over the cliff down to Obillary Socialism.

McCain should quit/ Romney re-enter
McCain does not have the support of the conservatives. He should quit. Then Romney would reenter the race, and it would be between him and Huckabee.

McCain won
It's a fantasy to think we'll have a brokered convention which will choose a real conservative. McCain will get the delegates he needs, and even if he didn't, he would be chosen because he had the most delegates. A convention is not going to take the nomination from someone with a thousand delegates and give it to someone with 200.

To Huck or not to Huck

Someone has written that America is not yet ready for a black or woman President. If that be true, and I suspect it is, then the Republican nominee this year will likely become POTUS in spite of George Bush's support.

I am a Ron Paul man, but now that my marvelous doc has no chance, I have to choose between McCain and Huck. Therefore, I choose Huck. My reasoning is that Huck is a great speaker, great enough to excel either Democrat by a wide margin. And he may well be trainable in constitutional governance while serving as President. Perhaps Dr. Ron Paul (another Baptist and a brilliant teacher) could mentor him.

I have also noticed serious evidences that McCain is suffering from age-related dementia. We don't need another old fool in the White House, particularly a Republican old fool, but that is what McCain offers us now and gradually more so in the near future.

My conclusion is that we really have only two choices: (1) vote for Huck, or (2) punt to the Democrats in hopes of getting a better shot at the top spot in 2012 (as recommended by Ann Coulter and me). Upon reflection, however, I would now rather go for the gold with Huck if that is still even remotely possible. Perhaps Romney will offer him his delegates in exchange for joining him on the ticket. Those two would be a magical combination with the sheer power of a political hydrogen bomb. The Democrats would be decimated. President Huck could make for some exciting times as he grows into the office, and I'd like to see them…really like to see them.

Staying in makes Huck look brain dead
Huckabee's excuses for staying in the race are yet another reason to think he is brain dead and totally out of touch with reality. The bottom line is that Huckabee is too far behind to get the delegates necessary to win the nomination. That's why none of the other reasons Huck gave for staying the race make sense. Basically he's just too stupid to understand the basic mathematics that he has lost.

If Huckabee is really working for a brokered convention, then he should say so.

ColinCody, Don't count on it
My whole family is behind Romney, even though he's "suspended" his campaign.
He hasn't officially quit the race so we hope to get him back in. A brokered convention might just be the way to do that.

But having said that, DON'T count on Huckbigot getting the nomination, and especially don't count on him tapping Mitt for the #2 spot if by some miracle he does get it.

WHY?? Because by his own admission in an interview with Sean Hannity he has admitted that one of the reasons he's stayed in the race when he didn't have a prayer is to keep "The Mormon out of the White House."

For that reason alone, myself and my family will work to keep Huckabigot from getting the nomination unless or until he SINCERELY apologizes to Mitt, the LDS Church, and it's members(yes, I am one of them) for his bigotry.

Romney's decision
I believe Romney 'suspended' his campaign because the Huckster and McCainiac would continue to work together to deprive him of delegates as they did in the case of West Virginia where he clearly had the plurality of votes until they made a deal giving the win to the Huck.

In addition, Romney was spending much of his own money on his campaign while the other two were basking in plenty of free media face time. He was forever forced to do ads answering the Huckster's misrepresentations and subtle, anti-Mormon innuendo. It was simply a cost/benefit evaluation made by financially astute technocrat.

Now that Romney's out, the Huckster has more than an even chance of picking up Romney's conservative supporters given their plain disgust with McCain.

I also agree with stokes: the Huckster has a personality, a wit and he is extremely good at thinking on his feet. McCain is a dud by comparison.

Just because it is 'his turn', is no reason why the party should 'go down the drain with with McCain'.

McCain Vs. Obama
Moderate Repulicans. Think about it. Those two in a debate. Obama already has his base fired up about change. What does McCain represent? How many years in congress? Thats right. Plus its the black man being held back by the man. Who is the man? McCain. You guys pay too much attention to the polls. Obama will take the high road. He'll just talk in generalities with no real plans about how he is going to change washington. (Just like Bill Clinton when he fooled a lot of you last time.) Our only real hope is to have another agent of change, like Mitt Romney, whose campaign uses the slogan "Washington is broken". Its not just broken . Its broke. Keep voting for Romney and Huck. Keep McCain away from those debates. He'll get creamed.

what happens if
The MSM keeps referring to the Democrat candidate needing x number of delegates for a candidate to win the nomination.

Is this also necessary to win the Republican nomination?

If so, what happens if neither candidate hits the magic number?

What about the Doctor?
Has everyone, including the media pundits, forgot that Ron Paul is still in this race, and could be a real surprise candidate? Remember how Abe Lincoln got elected. He was as much an underdog as Dr. Paul, and with the help of his enthusiatic supporters, garnered the win at the convention. Check it out if you have time. While you are at it, google Ron Paul and join the Revolution if you are fed up with business as usual in Washington and don't trust the flip floppers and liars who are running for president, including the Republicans and the Democrats! Also see if you can find where Dr. Ron Paul has ever lied or "conveniently changed his mind" about anything. Folks, he is for real! God Bless America and Dr. Ron Paul!!

War is not just a campaign issue
This debate just shows that Huck supporters are not that much more serious about the fight against Islamist jihadists than the Dems. This is not just a debate on what is , or isn't, the # 1 campaign issue. Romney was right when he said that it imperative that we get organized to win in 2008, because the consequences of a "give up" strategy against AQI terrorists will REALLY hurt our country! Wake up before you are living under shari'ah law.

Huck loves McCain
I saw it in the debates. The Huck defended McCain against those terrible attacks from Romney. Why, Huck and McCain were a great tag team against Romney. The two love each other and for good reason. They are almost twins. Both beat up on the GOP especially conservatives. Both have serious ethics issues. Both supported Democrats. Both have serious enemies from their former/current colleagues. They are one and the same. Both are disgusting candidates.

It sticks in my craw that Huck attacks MccCain for the same things he defended McCain for against Romney. He is dispicable.

Huckabee for Defense Secretary
Huckabee gave a rather intriguing speech at the NRA in September, during which he deftly merged his heartfelt evangelical beliefs with his deep passion for gun rights and hunting. He recalled the time he was in an antelope hunting contest in Wyoming. After several hours of stalking prey on a miserably cold, windy and snowy day, Huckabee had his chance. An antelope was 250 yards away, but right at the edge of his range as a shooter. Then a miracle happened:

"I decided that one way or the other, this hunt is about to be over, because I can't stand any more of this cold. And somehow, by the grace of God, when I squeezed the trigger, my Weatherby .300 Mag, which has got to be the greatest gun, I think, ever made in the form of a rifle -- for my sake in hunting, I've never squeezed the trigger and not gotten something -- did its work, and somehow the angels took that bullet and went right to the antelope, and my hunt was over in a wonderful way.

Thanks to those angels, that elk was dead."

Let's put Huckabigot in charge of missile defense systems. Remember Charlie's Angels? Huckster could take out Bin Laden, Ahmadinejad and Kim Jong-il in three shots.
