Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

Poor Al Gore, December is just not his month.  First he loses a nail-biter to George W. Bush, that wound reopened slightly a few days ago with the December 12th anniversary of the Supreme Court’s ruling that gave the presidential nod to Bush. And now, in another pre-Christmas let down, the former Vice President finds himself a mere bridesmaid again as runner up to another winner.

Never mind an academy award for his movie “AN INCOHERENT…” …er…I mean “An INCONVENIENT Truth” – and also ignoring the fact that he is indeed a NOBEL PRIZE winner (and don’t forget his legendary invention of the internet and being the inspiration for the iconic 70’s movie “LOVE STORY”).  Apparently none of that resume enhancing stuff mattered ultimately to the folks at Time Magazine as they chose their person of the year this week.

This time Mr. Gore finds himself losing to that wacky charmer in the Kremlin, VLADIMIR PUTIN. If you venture to www.time.com you’ll see a picture of the Russian president sitting Lincoln-esque in a pose that actually defines what the absence of a smile looks like.

Time says that this annual choice is not about honor, nor is it an endorsement. They say it’s ultimately about LEADERSHIP, or as they describe it – “bold earth-changing leadership.”  And, though they never use this phrase, they might as well have, to them Putin is a great leader because HE MAKES THE TRAINS RUN ON TIME.  He’s a leader who provides STABILITY before everything else – “stability before freedom, stability before choice, stability in a country that has hardly seen it for a hundred years.”

That’s pretty much the campaign motto of all would-be TYRANTS.

In fairness to Time, they have many times selected powerful people who’ve operated outside the norms of democracy and decency to grace the cover of their magazine as big kahuna of the year. Joseph Stalin was so-named in 1939 and 1942, the second time after the Soviets became our Allies in the Second World War.  Of course, the first time the Russian dictator received Time’s ultimate notice was in the wake of his bold and manipulative non-aggression pact with Adolf Hitler.  But, then Hitler himself was the Time’s annual designee in 1938, though they couldn’t quite muster the guts to actually put his mug on the cover of the magazine at the time.

I understand that they try to be objective and look for “movers and shakers” irrespective of the particular moves and shakes a leader might use. So, down through the decades the list of luminaries includes names such as Franklin Roosevelt (1932, 1934, & 1941), Harry Truman (1945 & 1948), Winston Churchill (1940 & 1949), Queen Elizabeth (1952), Charles Lindbergh (1927), and Mahatma Ghandi (1930), along with Hitler (1938), Stalin (1939 & 1942), Ayatollah Khomeini (1979), and The Computer (1982).

Steve Allen used to produce a T.V. show called “Meeting of the Minds,” where he’d bring together people from history for a chat.  You could get a glimpse of what dinner conversation might be like if Socrates, Marie Antoinette, Karl Marx, and Emily Dickinson, for example, broke bread together.

I wonder what the ultimate Time Magazine Person of the Year Reunion would be like?  I can envision Churchill blowing cigar smoke into Hitler’s face, Stalin mincing few words telling Vladimir Putin how much he enjoyed the stroganoff prepared for him by Putin’s grandfather, and Ghandi trying to find vegetarian hors d’oeuvres.

Vladimir Putin is, in fact, a very skilled practitioner of the art of power politics, no doubt about it. And, he will most certainly remain as the key man in Russia even after he sort of steps down from presidential power next March. He apparently looks back to Peter the Great as inspiration, but, to me, he looks a lot more like the guy his grandpa used to cook for.

Time sees leadership in terms of decisive action and effectiveness.  This concept is widely accepted as the gold standard.  But, there is another compelling way to define and practice leadership and it can be found in something Jesus talked about. One day he was approached by those who were interested in power and the proximity to power – they wanted to flank Jesus on his right and left in the coming kingdom.

Jesus responded with a philosophy radically different from the authority, manipulation, and coercion that marks the normal human exercise of power.  He told his suppliants that REAL leadership is about SERVICE – meeting needs and helping others.

Rarely, though, does the world acknowledge, or even understand the SERVANT-LEADER.  By the way, there was such a person on Time’s short-list this year. His name is General David Petraeus, the Commander of the Multi-National Forces in Iraq.

According to Time, he was fifth on the list, reminding me of something else Jesus said – you know…that line about the last being first?

Undeniable Enemy of the Fallen Mind Set
. . . is choice.

Darkness will substitute any promise or singular feature of peace and prosperity for restriction of individual choice.

Is it not written: " If they say 'Come with us: let us lie in ambush to shed blood, if we plan an ambush for the innocent without provocation, we can swallow them alive like Sheol, and whole, like those who sink into oblivion. We shall find treasures of every sort, we shall fill our houses with plunder; throw in our lot with us: one purse betwenn us all."

Dissection of the error of political pandering migt begin with the motive of the promoter. Gore and Putin are promoters of deception which gain appeal and approval with the weak, undisciplined mind. Their common motive is simple: have government control replace individual choice in every instance possible - and this will be justified as being improvements for the "planet" or "all mankind".

Jesus, on the other hand, intervenes in our individual lives on a daily basis to restore our individual choice. He offers communion with himself as the eternal remedy against the darkness of coercion. It is no coincidence that Jesus would allow Americans to reach out to the Soviets, even for a short time, and extend a precious commodity - truth. It is not coincidence that forces of darkness from both Russia and America gather to oppose the ultimate choice of men - their choice for God. Truly, who has done more to advance the the failed agenda of the prince of this world than Putin, Gore and Time Magazine?

Putin and Gore are not free men. They are not to be admired or feared. Judgement comes to every individual man. Fear and love the Judge - he is Jesus - he is knocking.

Gore wins Time Magaz...Oops!
Pastor Stokes thinking..."I know he's gonna win, err! I'll go ahead and start the column...tired slam number one, bang! Your movie, I didn't like the message! More silly, insepid putdowns, wham!Take that, you Nobel prizer you...Wait...Putin wins... Oh NOoooooooooooo!"

Corrections
Re "Poor Al Gore, December just wasn't his month": would that be the same December when he won the Nobel Prize?

BTW, for the millionth time, Gore never said he invented the internet. He accurately said he took the initiative for putting through Congress the legislation that made the internet accessible and free to all of us, not just the military. And I expect that Stokes knows that. It's just fun to keep telling a lie if it gets you laughs.

The empty pot makes the most noise
Time Magazine likes people who holler a lot, especially if they stampede or scare people, or if they can force people to do what Time Magazine thinks is best for them.

The sad thing is that nobody cares what Time Magazine thinks anymore. Like the Nobel Prize itself, it has become a popularity contest and yet another component of the politics of Neener Neener Neener.

Lily...
...just like the lies that George Bush knew about 9/11, that there were never WMDs in Iraq, and all those other whoppers you libs like to repeat ad nauseaum?

AlBore is the one who loves to embellish around the truth to make himself look better.

Progress
is not always forward! Should be the headline whenever one of these "leaders" wins anything.

For the ZILLIONTH time!
"with the December 12th anniversary of the Supreme Court’s ruling that gave the presidential nod to Bush"

BUSH WON THE ELECTION BETWEEN THE STATES, THE SUPREME COURT ENDED GORE'S CHALLENGE!!! IT DID NOT HAND THE ELECTION TO BUSH!!!

I agree with your concept of Christ's example, but Time is retarded in putting Stalin, Hitler, and Putin on it's cover. They cherish evil as much as good and don't discern between the two.

I thought we should hold up good examples to follow, not bad ones.

For AudiR10, an anecdotal irony
The irony was that the award of the Peace Prize to the Boaracle was based on his bakvas film, and not on uniting two enemies (very) briefly: in 2000, both Musharraf and Vajpayee were praying for Bush to be elected--and both were found to be handing-out sweets on 12/13!

And you're right about Time and also its Canadian "equivalent" Macleans--they're both quite useless.

audi
You should trademark "the politics of neener neener neener". It's priceless.
(And utterly descriptive!!)

Time
for anyone who stops and thinks is a communist kissing rag for anyone who cares to fill their mind with trash. They used to be a respected magazine, back when my grandparents were in their 50s (that would be pre-LBJ).

I've seen their old copies of "Time." My grandparents were "yellow-dog" democrats for those who know what that means. They grew up when we had Democrats who actually accomplished things; in sharp contrast to the dimwits of today who want to socialize everything and get in bed with all the communist countries, i.e. John Kerry, Billary, Ted Kennedy, Jimmy Carter, et al. If those are the examples that the Times and the democrats want to follow; then, socialism, corruption, and takeover will follow!

PS
I left Gore off my list, for the dimwits, he's so accomplished I forgot him just like Time magazine did! Even they know a phony when they see one!

Hey str8t_talk: BRB! :-)
.

lilly: algore lies so much..............

who can keep track... ???? LOL

TIME IS A LEFT-WING RAG
Just like Newsweek, and USA Today, and the New York Times, and the Los Angeles Times, and Nation, and the Washington Post, and the Herald Tribune, and the St Louis Post Dispatch, and the Denver Post, and, well just about all the newspapers across Amerika, as well as the left-wing CNN and CBS and ABC and NBC.

Leftists are destroying America and they're too stupid to realize it and too dishonest to admit it if they weren't so stupid.

Has anyone else here noticed...
...that our Democrat friends who appear on this site usually have nothing of substance to say about the FACTS of the article? All they seem to be able to do is 'make a man an offender for a word' by pointing out some small errors in spelling or whatever. They think that by doing so, they have invalidated the substance of the article. Hey Socialists! Why don't you try and debate the ideas presented here based on the ideas themselves instead of nitpicking?

Tipper
What a name, reminds me of the song "I'm a little teapot..." I wonder how she puts up with Al the bore?? Of course, w/all the electricity they use, she probably has her own wing of the house and gas-guzzling Lexus SUV!

I wonder how much dust that hybrid has collected since he bought it? He probably can't fit behind the wheel to drive it! His head is too big to fit through the door in the first place!

ex-Wyomingite
Good Post.

I think you left off Video Game Awards, Teen Choice Awards, People Sexiest Man Alive.

I guess there are just too many to list.

Al
Gore's biggest problem is that he is a total tool. By that I mean he is someone who is willing to be used, just by making him think he's great, worthy, and letting him think he came up with the idea in the first place. That's probably why he was chosen for the VP slot, Mr. Clinton being very smart that way.

Now he's the inventor of global warning (or the warner of global inventions). There are billions of dollars to be bilked out of the US--who better to choose for your spokesman than someone with credentials who can be used?

I have to assume that either Mr. Gore is not too bright, or that he has a massive place in his ego that needs stroked. Either way, I don't care if he's Time's man of the year, but I'm certainly glad he's not been president. A useful idiot if ever there was one.

Anne, brainon, Audi, Wyoming
Some good posts and I agree with Sunthe1, we should make "the politics of Neener, Neener, Neener" our mantra to all libs w/out a brain. I think it's utterly impish and priceless. I live in KS, but sometimes when I'm on this site with all the Libs posting I feel like I've been transported to OZ! Thank goodness, most of them are sleeping in this morning or they have their Ted Kennedy affliction, hard to think with that going on!

Good Morning Anne...

Jesus leadership
The comment Jesus made to those two disciples was "can you drink the cup I drink" refering to His future suffering. I just have to decide who suffers more, John Edwards or Al, environmentalist in name only, Gore. Who has the nicer house, private plane, better food, hybrid car (such things are currently out of my price range even though I am a conservative)! Well, I guess I will still put my hope and effort into serving Jesus, who saved a wretch like me and allows me to serve the King of Kings. That beats schilling for former senators every day. Merry Christmas

This isn't over
Al has requested a recount. He is not taking this lying down.

He is reading Newsweek until the new count comes in.

Does anyone remember when Ted Kennedy was Time Man of the Year? Was it '69?

Midwest Minister
"Who has the nicer house, private plane, better food, hybrid car (such things are currently out of my price range even though I am a conservative)!"

Using this logic, can one say then that all the mega church, and t.v. evangelicals are fakes too. For example Pastor Hagee has two rather large houses and millions of dollars, and then there's Oral Roberts and his vast wealth.

Picking Putin had a lot to do with his turn around of the sad shape of the Russian society. It was very bad, and by our standards nothing to brag about. I don't like Putin, however, he kills any journalist that disagrees with him.

I will be sure
not to purchase Time. (Not that I ever do. I get a look every once in awhile in my doctor's office.)
Just wondering:would Putin be such a great leader if he didn't have oil money to finally pay for pensions and weapons and power????

Taft
I can tell you are a typical liberal. I am glad you agree with me that John Edwards and Gore are "fakes" to use your logic. Also typical of liberals is lumping people together and attributing stellar bad qualities to all in the same group also known as sterotyping.

MM
I asked you a straight forward question, Sir. Don't answer it, fine, but please enough with the liberals are all the same tripe. Edwards wants to help the poor. Find me a poor presidential candidate that endorses the same. There aren't any.

OOps!
I hit the wrong key and entered my post before I finished. I will not defend the hypocrisy of fellow ministers but it seems some liberals are ready to overlook anything in their spokespersons. As I said in my first post, I serve Jesus, not other ministers, or poloticians. And I best serve Jesus by trying to help others. Happy New Year!

Who cares?
No one reads Time anymore. Just the thought of the weather wizzard winning a Nobel "Peace" prize had lowered the standard yet again. Al blames all the worlds troubles on the U.S., he is a bitter man, and he sits in his 10,000 square foot energy eating home, after he has arrived home on a fuel hog privite jet, and delivered to his abode in a 9mpg limo. Then he tells us to ride bikes. The latest report on gobal warming is, it aint so, no trends of warming, and no definitive proof that if there is warming man has a lot to do with it. Al needs to just ride off into the sun set, no moon set....

MM
Merry Christmas to you.

Califson
You can't be sure though, about global warming. I'm not for taking the chances. Here in California it wouldn't hurt to clean up the air anyway.

Supreme Court’s ruling
I object to your characterization that the
"Supreme Court’s ruling that gave the presidential nod to Bush." You should say
"that ended Gore's attempt to steal the election"

To Taft
I certainly agree with you. We have the responsibility to be good stewarts of what God has given us. The air and water are cleaner now where I live than they were when I was a boy, and you hve to credit the EPA and those who pushed the agenda. However Gore and his followers have a different agenda, its all about power and money. They can not prove gobal warming, but I give them credit for putting across what may way been the biggest lie in our lifetime..Take a look at this site.

http://www.timesgardian.com/2007/121907/121907-8.html

Califson
I couldn't get that link to work. Your right about the air getting better in California. I can actually see mountains some days. I'm sure there is some big money involved, and believe me, I'd be very happy to find out they were wrong.

Oh one more thing
Riding bikes or walking isn't going to do our fat society any bad. I'm off to take my Beagles for their walk. Have a good day.

irrelevant
Time Magazine and the CBS Evening News are about as relevant as black and white TVs, and less interesting. If not for reading Townhall, I wouldn't have known who their Man of the Year was. Even knowing, I still don't care, and I suspect I have lots of company.

Gore
He was awarded the nobel peace prize and was second choice for the TIME man of the year. where is the guy who beat him in the election. Preparing to slink out of office with his tail tucked between his legs.

Taft
Beagles are cool. You are right; riding and walking are good things, not bad. What's bad is that the GW scam is much more than walking to work (the little people, that is, not Owlgore). It's all about transferrance of money. But don't take my word for it. And rest assured that the "someone" below means the U.S.

BALI, Indonesia – A global tax on carbon dioxide emissions was urged to help save the Earth from catastrophic man-made global warming at the United Nations climate conference. A panel of UN participants on Thursday urged the adoption of a tax that would represent “a global burden sharing system, fair, with solidarity, and legally binding to all nations.”

“Finally someone will pay for these [climate related] costs,” Othmar Schwank, a global tax advocate, told Inhofe EPW Press Blog following the panel discussion titled “A Global CO2 Tax.” Schwank is a consultant with the Switzerland based Mauch Consulting firm

Schwank said at least “$10-$40 billion dollars per year” could be generated by the tax, and wealthy nations like the U.S. would bear the biggest burden based on the “polluters pay principle.”

The U.S. and other wealthy nations need to “contribute significantly more to this global fund,” Schwank explained. He also added, “It is very essential to tax coal.”

CalifSon and Taft-Global Wming
You've both alluded to a very important point about our environment. We all want clean air, clean water, and we all want to be good stewards of the earth.
That's precisely what's wrong with Gorism: it takes the focus off of those things and puts the focus on how many billion dollars can be funneled to some department (?) at the UN who will do (?) with it.

People think that if they rally around Gore's rant, they've done their job. Meanwhile, there's a huge pile of waste eddying around in the pacific ocean that came from... California beaches!!!. It's composed of bits of plastic litter, all put there by... INDIVIDUALS!!!.

I'd be willing to bet that some of those very litterbugs are out demonstrating about global warming.

Chicaree
The guy who beat him (and Frankenstein) is presiding over yet another quarter of economic growth, while Gore gets more practice being a bridesmaid.

This is the news as Drudge sees it:

(RTTNews) - The Commerce Department released its final report on gross domestic product in the third quarter on Thursday, showing that the pace of GDP growth for the quarter was unrevised compared to the preliminary estimate.

The report showed that GDP increased at an annual rate of 4.9 percent in the third quarter compared to the 3.8 percent growth seen in the second quarter. Economists had expected GDP growth to remain unchanged at 4.9 percent.

The GDP growth in the third quarter marked the fastest pace of growth since the third quarter of 2003, when GDP surged up 7.5 percent.

This is the news as Clinton News Network sees it - all "bad news" and "lousy year" Priceless:

Best stocks in a lousy year
Bad news at Bear Stearns

Wyoming
Good points - the "good steward" thing doesn't mean "ruler of the earth". The tree huggers out here have fought tooth and nail to prevent any clearing of trees in the courts. The pre-emptive action would have produced natural firebreaks (bit God forbid, someone might have made a dollar of profit on a baseball bat or a chair). Instead, we get forest fires that destroy up to 500,000 acres at a time, and the tree huggers get to show how much they love trees by watching millions of them go up in smoke. Very logical.

Wyoming
Sorry for the weird prepositional placement. I don't mean there are trees "in the courts", of course.

ex-Wyomingite
-"Moore and Gore."

Classic.

Hope they aren't reading this though because they might copyright that phrase and start a new movie company together.

First Movie... Planet Earth's Circumference is Growing Several Inches Every Year due to Landfill Expansions. Big Corporate Coverup Exposed.

Bondbeam
Last I heard, Owlgore was explaining "food credits" to MM.

AZPhil
Yeah I heard something about that.

Wasn't AG trying to buy credits from the local Curves and Weightwatches to lower his Fat Footprint. They agreed to not eat at Burger King for x amount of $ and he gets to keep eating at Burger King. Looks like a win win situation for everyone...even Burger King.

Gorebal Warming
Will you all note--Mr Gore is not trying to find a way to harness the methane bubbling up out of the Bering Sea--Or the gasses escaping from the Great Rift of Africa. I guess he will acknowledge that there is not a lot he can do about the hundreds of volcanoes of the world. He spends his time in the big cities admonishing gullible people to pay his companies to plant trees. With a big grin for the poor idiots in Hollywood (and elsewhere) that fall for his scams. Ladies and Gentlemen--It is all about the money!!! There is no sign of the forests supposedly being planted. I have a personal message for the charleton. "Mr. Gore--I'll plant my own damned trees".

Taft
There aren't any "poor people" in this country- just slobs who can't even take advantage of demo wealth redistribution.
Anyone that WANTS a job and is capable of performimg one gets it.
stop the drivel- go live in Brazil or Peru or Cambodia then talk poverty.

eor
Finally caught the Evan Almighty movie on DVD. Spent a little time watching some of the extra's etc... and caught the so called "Green" effort they put in to "offset" their carbon footprint. Good intentions however misinformed I guess. In one segment the dirctor urged everyone at home to switch to the compact florescent bulbs to save energy. While saving energy isn't bad, what about the mercury that's in those bulbs when people start throwing them in the trash? Can anyone say Mad Hatter?

I like your comment about planting your own trees. Personally I only own about 10 acres but my neighbor owns about 40 next to mine. Together we planted about 700 trees and shrubs in what used to be farmground. Wasn't good for farming and it looks a lot better with trees on it now. Nothing wrong with planting trees as long as nobody is getting hoodwinked in the process.

Yet another debate-avoiding ploy
Taft wrote: "You can't be sure though, about global warming. I'm not for taking the chances."

Yeah, that's what liberals always say when they've 1) failed at all other attempts to silence their opponents on a topic, and 2) have no valid argument for their particular point of view. Come to think of it, #2 is always the case...

It's funny, though. They don't seem to accept that argument when the topic is "when does life begin?" and the stakes are "You just might be committing a murder." Funny...

Thing is, though, I can be sure about THIS about global warming: the attempt to blame it on man arose because of an anti-capitalist political agenda, not because of genuine scientific concern. So I'm not paying it even the smallest attention, until I'm convinced that the neo-Marxists and the charlatans have been driven entirely out of the scientific process. That hasn't even begun, and until it does, my response to ANY action based on human causes of global climate change is "Not in a million years."

(Unrelated to this topic, please visit my political blog, "Plumb Bob Blog: Squaring the Culture," at http://www.plumbbobblog.com. Thanks.)

NASA Debunks Part of Global Warming Myth, Will Media Report It?
By Noel Sheppard | November 14, 2007 - 12:23 ET

Is the National Aeronautics and Space Administration filled with climate change deniers?

Such seems likely to be alleged by hysterical alarmists in the press when and if they read a new study out of NASA which determined that "not all the large changes seen in Arctic climate in recent years are a result of long-term trends associated with global warming."

Goes quite counter to all the recent media reports, as well as assertions by Nobel Laureate Al Gore...
---------------------
Over 400 prominent scientists from more than two dozen countries recently voiced significant objections to major aspects of the so-called "consensus" on man-made global warming. These scientists, many of whom are current and former participants in the UN IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change), criticized the climate claims made by the UN IPCC and former Vice President Al Gore.

The new report issued by the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee’s office of the GOP Ranking Member details the views of the scientists, the overwhelming majority of whom spoke out in 2007.

Algore signs
I had an idea for two signs for the 2000 election.
#1. At the top it says, "GORE MEANS STAB".
Under that is a picture of Algore with horns, upon which taxpayers are impaled.
Under that is his name, "AL STICKITTUYA".

#2. At the top it says, "GORE MEANS BLOOD".
Under that is a picture of Algore with bloody vampire fangs.
Under that are the pale bodies of taxpayers.
Under that is his name, "AL BLEEDYADRY".

These can be used the next time he runs for anything.

Ron about Gorebal Warring
Glaciers are frozen water needed as condensation for barren and frozen lands of this planet, causing drought and flooding. When glaciers melt, some water runs into the oceans filling space filled by sea ice which contracts when it melts. Some water thaws the ground below where the glacier was, and soaks into the ground.

The heat of the sun, and the absence of cold from glaciers and sea ice will cause more water to be evaporated from the oceans, lakes, and rivers into the upper atmosphere than there presently is; and the winds will blow it evenly around the world, providing normal rainfall world-wide, even where there presently is drought, and barren and frozen land, preventing flooding.

The worldwide rainfall will cause long-dormant seeds under glaciers and in barren lands to sprout and grow into new plants, the best way to go green. The new plants will inhale carbon dioxide and exhale oxygen, which we breathe. There will be so many new plants, that we might have to increase the amount of carbon dioxide we generate, to provide enough for all of them

A glacier in Greenland is melting, returning the land to the way it was a millennium ago. Larger crop yields are already the result, and the codfish have returned. Put the UN there.

Parts of the world are still experiencing record low temperatures. Snow fell before leaves fell, and over a month before winter started. We need global warming as soon as possible.
