Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

I see "pragmatists" everywhere I look in the Republican Party -- those who say we must always be more concerned with not offending so-called moderates than with advancing our principles. The irony is that no one is less pragmatic, in the end, than these self-styled pragmatists because their prescriptions are a recipe for failure.

Most recently, of course, the Republican branch of the political correctness sect insists that we must not oppose Judge Sonia Sotomayor's nomination for the Supreme Court because her confirmation is inevitable and by opposing it, we'll gratuitously alienate Hispanics and women -- as if they haven't already been conditioned by the liberal press to believe conservatives are ogres regardless.

What's missing from this analysis is that one of the main reasons Republicans have lost favor of late, reflected in their trouncing in the 2006 congressional elections and in shrinking GOP party identification percentages, is their alienation of the conservative base. The best-kept secret is that with 60 percent of Americans still considering themselves conservatives, Republicans only need to be true to their conservative principles to win again.

While I've always considered it hyperbolic to suggest there is no difference between the parties, I find it increasingly difficult to defend this position. Beltway Republicans, with notable exceptions, spend half their time groveling to the forces of political correctness, conceding the ideological turf wars to liberal Democrats and agreeing to operate within the four corners of the liberal- and relativist-dominant media culture without a fight.

Take, for example, the Republicans' approaches to Obama's newly announced Draconian CAFE standards and his cap and trade proposal. In response to both, they virtually concede the cultish dogma that man-made global warming is destroying the Earth, rendering them powerless to battle to save capitalism. Likewise, how many of them fight for nuclear energy instead of knuckling under to the left's destructive fear-mongering on this no-brainer alternative energy source?

Similarly, on Obama's obsession with consummating the already-started process of socializing American medicine, many Republican leaders are talking about massaging his plan at the margins rather than challenging its inevitability and opposing it head-on. The only thing inevitable about nationalized health care is that it would destroy the best medical system in the world. Yet where are the GOP Paul Reveres?

Another example is the Guantanamo Bay prison. When President Bush said he'd like to close the prison if and when feasible, he opened the door for President Obama to press forward with this insanity. Republicans have boxed themselves in on the issue and have less credibility to challenge the anti-war leftist propaganda that we grossly abused prisoners there, when the evidence shows the opposite. Instead of leading, Republicans are allowing themselves to be led, lest they be singled out for special ridicule by liberals for telling the politically incorrect truth.

Nor do many Republicans have the temerity to dispute the patently absurd leftist dogma that Gitmo is the terrorists' greatest recruitment tool because otherwise-peaceful Muslims will be so outraged at mild mistreatment of war prisoners -- in those exceptional cases in which mistreatment occurs -- that they'll join the beheading movement.

Now, with Obama's nomination of Judge Sotomayor, White House press secretary Robert Gibbs tells us we have to tread lightly in daring to oppose her. You'd expect His Shillness to take that position, but how about Republican politicians and "conservative" commentators? Why do we have to tread lightly at the prospect of the appointment of a radical leftist activist judge who believes in rewriting the Constitution on the fly to achieve the policy results that she and the Appointer in Chief desire?

I swear; sometimes our side acts as oblivious as liberals about the indispensability of our system of checks and balances to the preservation of our liberties. If the integrity of the Constitution isn't worth fighting for, what is?

Just what would Obama have to do to warrant our criticism? Just how radical and in your face would he have to be before people quit falling for his empty bipartisan rhetoric?

There will always be those who stubbornly cling to the misguided notion that Republicans could build a bigger tent through caving on 90 percent of their supposed principles and offering only Democrat lite. But the only chance we have for a Republican resurgence is if Republicans return to their conservative roots and offer a real, stark alternative to the unfolding Obama destruction.

If they roll over instead of vigorously opposing this madness, they'll have no legitimacy to mount an alternative case in 2010 and 2012. Thus, pragmatism versus principles is a false choice. It's more pragmatic, not to mention more honorable, to stick to your principles.

If the GOP continues to surrender its principles, however, it won't matter if it wins, because it will have morphed into that which it has professed to oppose.

Thought...
One of the most stark differences btw conservatives and liberals is the issue of abortion. Liberals are "against" a convicted murderer being put to death, but "for" a most-innocent-and-vulnerable-amongst-us being killed on a whim. Conservatives agree that it's more expensive to put a felon to death than a life prison sentence, but when something that grotesque is commited, it acts as deterance. Given that most people of Hispanic origin are devout Catholic, and thus, anti-abortion, why in the world would they see ANY common ground with the Demoncratic party? What part of "right to LIFE, liberty, and persuit of happiness" would they not promulgate as a reason to avoid the DEMONcratic party like the plague it is?

Just a random thought.

Drown the Republican Party
Until these thiefs decide to quit spending money they don't have, nobody in the US is going to give flip about them.

There are two things they need to talk about in EVERY election:

No Blanket Amnesty

Fiscal Responsibility

These sorry "leaders" are scared to death to give up any power whatsoever. And reducing spending means giving up power.

I don't care which party does it, but we need a new contract with America. And frankly, I would be tickled pink if a third party could just drown the republicans and put them out of their misery.

Good Article.....

"Republicans only need to be true to their conservative principles to win again."

I'm glad someone has figured it out finally....

As for Bush, well, need I say more?

Mr. Limbaugh is no help
It is difficult to give Mr. Limbaugh much credence in matters of principle when he spent eight years cheer leading a Democrat-lite Presidency.

Where were your principles from 2001-2009, Mr. Limbaugh?

73,000 mad in China solar Panels to NEV

Stand up Republicans, or get the hell out of the way!

Obama vs. Republican~Tyrant vs.Coward 1

"Republicans who pick a fight with an up-from-the-bootstraps Hispanic woman do so at their own peril," said GOP consultant Phil Musser. "If Republicans make a big deal of opposing Sotomayor, we will be hurling ourselves off a cliff," said former George W. Bush aide Mark McKinnon. "It's a bad visual. It's bad symbolism for the Republicans," said Matthew Dowd, another former Bush aide. "You want to be careful," said GOP chairman Michael Steele. "You don't want to be perceived as a bully."____________________________________

I suppose if you are suggesting that if an investigation of this woman leads to her disqualification to sit on the Supreme Court based on criticism of her suitability, resulting from Conservative questioning will lead to an “being perceived as a bully”… That's the way Steele and other Republicans see it?… then let the tyrants have their bully.

This Republican strategy of "let's just roll-over and wait for the next kick in the groin before we fight" as is being suggested by Steele and others (including these TH writers), seems to suggest another inconvenient possibility:

That the appointment of Michael Steele as RNC head was another concession to a strategy of "let's just go along to get along."

We adults will be about doing what’s best for the UNITED States of America, based on the collective interest of ALL Americans, not ONE group based on an irrational fear.

There is certain to be one thing the current strategy of the Republicans in Congress is sure to be successful in achieving:

Another resounding defeat in the next election cycle.

Obama vs. Republican~Tyrant vs. Coward 2

We should let the “race” experts in the Democrat Party and liberal la-la-land worry about race…since they are the ones who are so obsessed with manipulating different segments of the population with bringing it up all the time.

Regardless of what the tyrannical Obama sycophants think, Republicans and Conservatives should never fail to support or oppose a nomination, policy, or policy decision on the basis of a fear or reaction to "Perception."

That would be choosing a positive "perception" over standing on principle. The former course is unprincipled, dishonest, and cowardly.

The second is what any principled and true public servant should have as his ONLY basis for supporting or opposing the nomination of a person standing to receive a lifetime appointment to a federal bench.

It’s not a question of Sotomayor’s qualifications; it is a question of her potential to interpret the Constitution in an objective manner, without her interpretations being overly clouded by the prism of her feeling some special regard or sense of privilege needs to be extended by her when it comes to ruling on those she is biased towards because of Latina-ness or gender-ness.

So far the jury is out on whether she has the temperament to be able to rule objectively and may, therefore be unsuitable.

This is not a question of qualifications; it is one of suitability.

What the hell do Steele and others suggest we do?

Pretend to go along with what we feel is an unsuitable candidate on the basis of being cowed by fears that Latinas will hate us and think us "racist" because we reject ONE person who has a Puerto Rican ethnicity?

Obama vs. Republican~Tyrant vs. Coward 3

When we allow ourselves to play along with the notion that we should make decisions (as liberals and Democrats are wont to do) only through the prism of race and psychological games associated with race-card manipulation, gender and race-baiting...well...I think we ought to opt out.

That's how the libtards and Demwits operate, and it is both divisive and not the best or proper template for Conservative decision-making.

Conservatives, even if no one else is willing or honest enough to do so, must put principle and honest assessments of a candidate's qualifications and judicial temperament, ahead of and in spite of the shallow and base Democrat tactic of vote-baiting through carefully-calculated racially-inspired appeasement appointments.

We should never apply the litmus test of how we may be perceived by people whose main consideration is racially-motivated appearances...

The type of approach that Steele and others seem to suggest we take, is not in line with principled decision making; and only assigns importance to a criteria of vote-coveting based on "racist" assumptions of voter ignorance and adherence to ignorant "racial one-up-man ship.

What I suggest is that the only way this country will ever rise above this stupid rationale for decision-making created by race-baiting incorrigible opportunity-seeking demagogues like we have running our country into a racially-divided mess, is to not participate in it. F**k it! If, the MSM and the libs would have us believe, ALL Latinas are so ignorant that they would "feel" or "perceive" of us as "ra-a-a-cist."

Well, I guess that's easy for anyone who is TRULY a racist to believe...ahh...and who believes that? I certainly don't.

I credit Latinas as having the ability to discern right from wrong just as well as any black, white, Asian, or any other person with a brain of his/her own can.

Obama vs. Republican~Tyrant vs. Coward 4

Our decision-making, choices of suitable replacements for lifetime Judicial appointees and integrity in examining and either approving or rejecting candidates for the nation’s highest offices, shouldn’t be based on the threats or fears of some radical elements in society threatening to incite “an idiot’s race war” or the fear of them perceiving us as “bullies.”

To even admit to such a concern as hampering your ability to oppose this woman brands you as wanton cowards; causing more damage in displaying your lack of credibility in assessing any issue.

How can any Party that openly admits to and accept such a shackling of its own resolve to act responsibly in the face of adversity presume to gain the support of anyone, including those whose support they already have?

It’s a ludicrous and untenable position in which to willingly place oneself and from which to propose to operate.

Should the race-baiters and PC tyrants choose such a manner to object to whatever decision is made; it should suffice for them to be dealt with according to the nature of their idiocy.

The rest of us will continue to do the business at hand, which is to represent those choices that serve the best interests of America and Americans; not one special interest group as opposed to another special interest group.

We’ll leave that “bullying” to the Democrat and liberals, since they enjoy wallowing around in that political $h!+hole type of politics and racial divisionary prism of viewing every aspect of a society.

Democrats never represent those things that we have in common; only ever emphasizing and exploiting that which causes division and strife among polarized groups of individuals. That’s what motivated Obama to choose this particular woman in the first place.

Obama vs. Republican~Tyrant vs.Coward 5

If people leave us because they are caught up in the "race" game...we must continue on to do the proper thing, and expect that one day they will catch up to us.

It seems like Steele and others pushing this “to the rear, march” policy would have a better understanding of the importance of INTEGRITY.

If Steele and the other Republican cowards in Washington, can’t find the resolve within themselves to do what needs to be done; to ask what needs to be asked; and to oppose what needs to be opposed, they will find themselves on the wrong side of history; cowards hoisted upon their own petards!

I don’t know who they think they will be making any points with in exposing themselves even more, as cowards and gutless bystanders who have no stomach for a fight.

If they can’t stand and fight against these persistent Obama attacks on the Constitution they swore to “protect and defend” they deserve the ignominious distinction distinctively reserved for traitors and cowards.

It’s time Republican leaders realize that you can’t stand on principle and run on popularity.

That is a sure prescription for defeat not only in the polls but in the arena of public opinion and respect.

The victory is in doing what is right; no matter the consequences; that is the position that history favors.

Trust the American voters to be able to make a judgment in your favor based on that criteria.

As for the rest of us out here and especially on TH, we’ll continue to expose what we think makes Sotomayor unsuitable for this appointment.

And let the tyrants and cowards do what tyrants and cowards do.

They take our votes for granted
This is an excellent column. David Limbaugh is finally waking up to the problem, years too late. What he needs to realize is that most Republican politicians will continue to vote Democrat Lite as long as we keep rewarding them for doing it, rewarding them with our votes and money. Republican Senators figure that our votes are in the bag, that we will vote for them no matter what they do, so they might as well act like Democrat Lite.

Oncealwaysa Marine
You express my beliefs more eloquently than i can. Between you and Limbaugh, i have nothing to add. Thank you.

Oncealwaysamarine
You should send that piece to Steele and company. Phil Musser should talk, I believe he is the one who advised Pres. Bush about amnesty etc..he's one of those middle of the roaders, you know the ones with the yellow stripes down his back..when you are in the middle of the road as they say, you are road kill. The Repbulican suits just can't stand prosperity, they have a winning model but still ignore it in their anxiety to roll over whenever a DemonRAT barks, like submissive dogs and pee all over themselves..and in the process spray the Constitution.

They don't even have the guts to question the
Magicmessiah's credentials like they did McCain's because they are so afraid of racial
politics. They don't realize that most of us
Republican voters whether party members or just
Independents that share the values of Reagan are sick and tire of race being shoved in our faces. Whatever happened to MLK's dream?

Joel DOL..I agree, we have to repent and turn back to God. What we see as 'government today is what one of the Founders said..our government will only work for a religious and moral people..we've turned from Him. And hired
a Baby Killer in Chief..and we are just beginning to suffer from God's judgement because of it.

And here I though I was a wordsmith! You hammered out a great post.

From the community organizer on down to the lowliest union thug and ACORN election cheater, liberals have proved themselves to be nothing but scum.

I truly hope that one day, we're hunting them down like the dogs they are.

I could not agree more. I would LOVE to see the rise of the American Constitution party. Dedicated to upholding the (20 century old document, according to Comrade Zero-see my blog) and the principles of Conservatism as put forth by our Founding Fathers and Edmund Burke.

A Paddy Whack ©

When we're all stuck with Obamacare
Not too long from now
Will you still be handling your family's health
Choose your doctor, keeping your wealth?
If you will find you need surgery
Will the wait be more?
Will it be better, for all us debtors
When we're Sixty-four?

OOOOO

You'll be hurting too...
And if we let them win
I'd prefer the flu!

Will we be healthy, what will we eat?
When they hold your plan?
Makes you wonder who is gonna pay those bills
Won't Big Pharma ration your pills?
If we could take a practical stand
And reduce our risk
No more illegals, Nor Hillary Sequels!
Let's just call it quits!

I can still remember when our health care was a private choice, and we paid the bills
Then those law suits grew
Red tape and Lawyers too
Now it's sue, sue, sue!

Why should we pool our money and share?
What's your freedom worth?
Bankruptcy is not the way to spread the wealth
Poverty is worse for your health
When we're tied up in tangled red tape
Filling out more forms
Will you have choices? Will you have voices?
With health care reform?

Great points!
People who could care less are always attempting to reshape the Republican Party. Here is a PHENOMENAL read on how RINOs get treated by the Left. http://theblacksphere.blogspot.com/2009/05/colin-powell-pr ison-tale.html

LMAO First David I must say that I am really, really enjoying your bro's continuing melt down on the radio because he sees the adults coming to take back the Republican Party from him. Music to my ears.

If 60% of Americans were reactionary conservatives like you and rushie, the numbers would not be crashing down. By all means do go on and on about "we are the majority" but I know you and your bro know better. Your day is fading fast but hey you can both still live well on the fringe.

Why do
I picture the GOP politicians as the human embodiment of the Cowardly Lion:

"Put 'em up, put 'em UP!" sounding so brave and roaring with their quavering voices,

But run weeping if someone challenges them?

I'm tired of the 'listening tours.' What a total waste of time and money.

I'm tired of the GOP being Democrat Lite.

I'm sick of hearing that the GOP is irrelevant as it seems to be a self-fulfilling prophecy!

Basically, I am sick and tired of No Choice, No Voice and No Spine so-called Conservatives.

The current plan to 'listen' to the people to find out how the GOP should put their own spin on Universal Health Care makes me angry.

What is it about just say NO! and HELLLL NO!! that they don't understand???

Up the REVOLUTION! Impeach, repeal and Replace ALL incumbents.

Embrace the Party of KNOW
Know your enemy: Liberalism/Statism

Know your principles: Conservatism (Limited Federal Government bound by CONSTITUTIONAL mandates ONLY)

Know who IS the Government: WE THE PEOPLE

Know that without opposition, Liberty will be Lost and Lost forever.

WE NEED THE PARTY OF KNOW!

Republican Lite vs. real conservatives
I no longer believe that the Republican Party represents me or the Constitutional Republic. Republicans and the Socialist Democrats have robbed the taxpayers blind while slowly sliding into the Socialist agenda. And, Republican politicians have only themselves to blame through so-called compromise and their outright greed for money and continued power at any cost. My votes are going to the Constitutionalists and anybody else who is a real conservative.

Spineless
The "so-called" Republicans in charge in Washington are a cabal of spineless wimps ignorantly trying to keep their seats by destroying the Republican Party.

Either throw all of the bums out or start a Conservative Party. It would not take long for Conservatives to be the dominate party in America if we start now. If we wait the country will be lost forever.

Is It Something Like This?
Would a Three Party System look something like this?

Republican and Democratic Parties: "We will try not to offend one another unnecessarily, striving for common ground, working through our differences, and resolving issues for the good governance of the nation."

Conservative Party: "To hell with you. We will offend you all we damn please. We are heavily armed. We will shoot you if you get in our way. The first thing is, you have to recognize that WE ARE IN CONTROL HERE."

Because that's what I am reading on this thread and many others. In that case, I hope Conservatives WILL form their own party so that their principles may become even more clear to all.

LMAO
The limbawls get more and more fringe. I do love watching their train wreck especially now that the republican Party is pushing back. As a Democrat I beg you folks to run the dream ticket Cheney/limbawl in 2012. Well that is if ole Dick is not in prison by then

How about
We organize the Constitutionalists and the Libertarians and form the TEA Party.

I'm serious!

If we had everybody that participated and supported the Tea Party demonstrations sign on and support conservative Constitutional! candidates, we'd blow all the RINOs and Community Organizers (read: Commies) out!

I guess you missed the first incidence of "WE ARE IN CONTROL HERE." It came from Barack "I Won" Obama.

To J-D-P-L
Good morning Joel. I have wanted to address this point before when you mentioned it and now that you have repeated it I am reminded. I am not trying to be snotty here but I know you to be a thoughtful and articulate person so I hope for a serious response because I honestly can't anticipate what you will say.

In your opening sentence you say that God reserved this land for us (Americans, Anglos, Northern-European-derived-Nordic peoples, WASPS, call us what you will). The trouble is, the other night on The History Channel I saw a moving program about the Cherokee Trail of Tears. The Cherokees had been on their land in the Carolina and Georgia area for time-out-of-mind, certainly long before the white man appeared on these shores, when we forced them to leave their homeland and walk to Oklahoma in the wintertime, thus killing quite a few of them and permanently removing them from land they had occupied for many centuries. And nobody thinks that Anglos occupied the land before them---we weren't there first. We insisted that we had a right to take land (because God intended us to have it, apparently).

And, Joel, your opening sentence about God having reserved this land for us is almost verbatim what the Cherokee believed about their land---that God had intended it for their use. And as I write this it occurs to me that the first line of the theme song from the movie "Exodus" shows us the Jews saying the same thing about the land of Israel, and you can bet that the Palestinians feel the same way about the same land. Remember the song? "This land is mine/ God gave this land to me."

"Manifest Destiny"? Mexican War of 1847? Same thing.

So what I am asking, Joel, with respect, is this: when any people think that God has reserved specific land for them, how, exactly, do they know that to be true? And how do they know that they aren't rationalizing?

Two parties are better than one
"Would a Three Party System look something like this?"

I'd be happy to have even TWO parties because right now we only have one. That will be proven when Sotomayor gets 90% of the confirmation vote.

The Democrats and the Republicrats vote the same way. The difference is that the Republicrats talk a little differently right before the election.

Money
They call and e-mail all the time, we really need your money today.

Screw you. You get my vote, maybe, but show some backbone and fight back.

I have never seen such a group of gutless politicians.

The money must go for all the scotch they drink every night.

I got to meet Kemp one time at a fundraiser, he looked you in the eye when he talked to you. He had a backbone.

Who owns truth?
We all know that man cannot and will never own "truth." It's most blasphemeous when I hear someone state, "That's the Gods truth!" Only and alone does God know truth in all its fullness. Man can come to know partial truth through God, by attempting to live his (inclusive gender pronoun usage)life in Christ and follow the "WAY." Politicians professing and actually attempting this life and life style would engender universal support. As for party affiliation, I'd willingly support a Constitutionalist candidate.

No difference
Some people say "You all caused this by voting conservative and not for McCain in the last election".

And I say "We did vote in 40 Republican senators, and they're going to vote like Democrats on Sotomayor's nomination anyway."

Is now spouting Mormonism aren't you? If so don't you think you should mention it?

Great article, David
I believe we are being sabotaged by worms or moles inside the Republican Party. If we do not clean them out the Republican Party may well be dragged down (left) further and further. I think that some in the left wing of the Republican Party either know quite well what they are doing, or are incredibly and inexcusably naive.

I can't help but think
Republican politicians are not doing their homework. We do not send them to Congress to go to cocktail parties. All of them must know what a failure socialized anything is. They must know that Dems always make up stuff like Global Warming to push their agenda. So what the heck. Are they out there in La La Land or are they not courageous enough to have the jobs we gave them.

Did all of you Commentors call
the Republican Senators on the Committee to okay nominees for Supreme Court? It is your duty. Let them know they are to fight anyone that is not an originalist. Accepting anything less is traitorous to the Constitution.

The key
The key is in defining what the GOP's core principles are, or ought to be.

True Republican principles are related to conservatism in governance. We ought to give up being the pro-torture party, the anti-gay party, the hateful overblown rhetoric party, and get back to our actual political principles.

Uber
"McKKKain rallies lost the 2008 election"

Let's see, there IS a US Senator who was once in the Klan, but it wasn't John McCain. Who was it, I forget. While the old senile senator from WV was wearing a hood. McCain was rotting in a POW camp (not at exactly the same time). Way to honor his service, Uber!

John McCain is best known lately for supporting amnesty for illegals and the assault on the 1st amendment known as campaign finance reform. Neither are conservative principles. You are actually reinforcing David's argument with this example.

Just so I understand, let me see if I've got this straight:

The senators who opposed Thomas were using due diligence while anyone who dares oppose Sotormayer is a racist. Anyone who opposed Bush was 'speaking truth to power' or 'patriotic', but anyone who dares oppose Obama is a racist and un-American.

McCain sucks!!!
I'm glad we didn't vote for him. They better not even think about another McCain. McCain is absorbed with his hatred for George W. Bush. All he cares about is seeing George shamed. He goes out and promotes all of the Liberals talking points even on Fox News. He thinks it makes him sound so open-minded. But it actually makes him sound no-minded. McCain, liberals do not have open minds. Their minds are closed. Slammed shut and thrown away the key over hundreds of years ago.

Rush Limbaugh Is Not My Savior

Very good post all should read!

REDSTATE-RedState’s leader and my friend, Erick Erickson, wrote a piece today titled “The Peter Principle”, in which he compares Peter’s thrice denial of Christ to Republicans who dismiss the views of Rush Limbaugh, Mark Levin, and Dick Cheney. Cheney was at least an elected leader. The others are not.

Rush Limbaugh is not my savior. He is neither my savior for my personal spiritual needs, nor the savior of the Republican party of modern conservatism. Rush Limbaugh is an entertainer. Period. He often says things I agree with, but he is driven by ratings. In order to ensure these ratings, he must incite and inflame. It is his job to keep “the base” irritated and agitated. And in doing so, he very often turns off those in the squishy middle that so many here are willing to purify from the party. The problem is, we need their votes to return from minority status.

Semantics about comparing Peter’s denial of Christ to Republican’s criticizing Limbaugh aside, the larger point of Erickson’s commentary is the suggestion that we should not be attacking our own, but instead be attacking “the left”. Using various references to scripture, he chides those of us who would criticize these modern day apostles:

Been there, done that
"larger point of Erickson’s commentary is the suggestion that we should not be attacking our own, but instead be attacking “the left” "

We've been there, and done that. For more than 10 years all we did was demonize the Democrats before each election without ever cleaning up our own party. Then we patted ourselves on the backs for "voting for the lesser of two evils" as the Republican party moved further and further towards the Democrats.

Eventually it reached a point where there was no difference between the two parties. In fact what is going to happen proves that, that a large majority of the Republican senators will vote for Sotomayor.

Who are "the left"? Not just the Democrats, but every Republican who votes with them.

Hmm
I think you'll find that a strict conservative tent will be a very small tent indeed.

The False Cult of "Moderateness"
I knew this whole cult of "moderateness" was a smokescreen & a crock ever since it cropped up around 1989 when Reagan left office, & GHW "Voodoo Economics" "Kinder Gentler" "Read My Li-oh, never mind, my bad" Bush the Elder took the helm. There'd been a constant barrage of calls from "conservative" as well as leftie pundits for the GOP to slough off the "right wing" (i.e. the base) of the party.

These "independent moderate" voters we're supposed to court are a funny bunch. Supposedly they're perfectly OK with the most far-left, totalitarian big government confiscation & control proposals you can imagine - like those on the table now - but let a real conservative so much as clear throat & they scram screaming from the "extremism" & "partisanship." At least so their self-appt'd spokespersons assure us. These critters seem invisible themselves, tho, especially at the polls on Election Day. No matter how shamelessly the "centrist" pols pander to them, this electorate segment doesn't seem to actually show up & vote GOP. O no my precious, the "centrists" are relying on the conservatives to suck it in & pull the lever for them.

It is bad enough to pander to an actual electorate whose votes actually are in play. Of course, trying to out-Dem the Dems is a losing proposition anyway, they OWN "welfare" and "redistribution."

It scrapes the very BOTTOM of pathetic to pander to phantoms that don't even exist!

This phoney "moderate" stance & "bipartisanship" is nothing but capitulating & grovelling to the totalitarian Left!

Conservatism IS the true moderate, reasonable position! Proclaim it proudly!

GunnyG-BrianR-SFA1973-Others
The PROBLEM with a BIG TENT is a STRONG WIND.

The Whigification of the GOP
Fact is, this is coming from an element in & out of the GOP who abhor true mini-gov conservatism & don't want to do it. They are the careerists & elite class & their buds. There has been a strategy in play to alienate & marginalize conservatives in the GOP, & minimize, "redefine" & water down, if not deny, conservatism. The Dems-in-all-but-name, the Rockie elite, & the McCainiac max-gov 'pragmatists' have all closed ranks against the real conservatives. As w/ the Dems, government is what they do, & they want it to be a growth industry.

Even now, this McCain project called "National Council for a New America" is plotting to keep the GOP prisoner. McLoser needs to go on out to pasture already. He has been the most destructive force in the GOP & it's time other GOPers, especially Mike Steele, either disown him or get branded as fakers & losers along with him.

I honestly believe these neo-Whigs would rather LOSE than go conservative! (They themselves are set either way) They want the GOP NOT to be a vehicle for conservatism, but a holding pen for conservatives; a feckless straw-stuffed foil for the Dems that just takes up the space a real opposition party could occupy, & uses up the political oxygen a real opposition party could use.

We need to either uncompromisingly wrest control of the party from this bunch (IMO Steele is OK in his role, he just needs some stiffening of resolve by being surrounded by conservatives instead of posers) or walk out NOW & get busy building a 3rd party. It's a long shot, but a neo-Whig party that can't be corrected is a guaranteed waste of effort.

Let's hear no more tripe about how 'Ronald Reagan is dead, get over it.' We know, & that's not the point!

Ronnie, Barry, & Bill may all be gone
But their hope & vision still lives on

Agree
I agree with the Don't Tread posting. It's exactly right that ever since President Reagan retired we have heard that we must moderate, and it has never worked.

The liberal Republicans also forget that it was by being a true conservative that Reagan pulled all those groups into what was a VERY big Republican tent. It was one of the biggest landslides in history, Reagan's second presidential win.

Yet no Republicans ever tried to use Reagan's tactics. It's sad that even though Bill Clinton and Obama are liberals, that they are the only ones who studied president Reagan and copied his tactics like communication (but not conservatism). Obama and the Democrats are true believers right now, like Reagan was, even though they believe in the totally wrong things.

So the liberals will copy the mechanics of the Reagan presidency, doing a bad job of it, but Republicans won't even try.

yes yes
"I honestly believe these neo-Whigs would rather LOSE than go conservative!"

Yes the last election was very much "rule or ruin". After McCain was coronated through rigged process, liberal Republican columnists sneered "What are they [conservatives] going to do? Vote for Obama?" They figured that we would be the "chicken" and veer away at the last minute, by voting for McLiberal.

"They want the GOP NOT to be a vehicle for conservatism, but a holding pen for conservatives"

Yes I think of the Republican Party as being a decoy. Conservative pour their votes and money into the decoy party, but nothing ever gets done. It prevents a real conservative party from forming, and conservative candidates from winning.

"There has been a strategy in play to alienate & marginalize conservatives in the GOP"

Yes, during the early days after McCain clinched the nomination, he flew around bear hugging all the RINOs. His team didn't even want to meet with conservatives, and leaked to the media that we conservatives would be "replaced" by moderate Democrats.

It was only when McCain was almost hopelessly far behind in the polls that he caved in and went to CPAC, appointed a conservative running mate, etc.

Right on, Mr. Limbaugh!
Principles and expediency are almost universally mutually exclusive. We know that trying to be accommodating is not working out so well for us, so why not try going back to and sticking to our principles. Obama is a Christian even if you don't like the flavor of his Christianity. I see LDS as not christian simply because they added a new book just like Christianity and Islam. This is like saying all Christians are Jews even though they added a book and worship the same god. But whatever, that is between you folks. We are a nation of Christians but NOT a Christian nation. Although the nation of Christians is changing quickly too

Not going to take it any more
Learn from the Democrats

Take a look at any Democratic blog -- they are constantly critizing their leaders, any time they move even a little to the center. Their base continuously pushes their politicians, to keep them true to their party principles. There is constant talk about primary-ing (defeating in a primary) any centrist Democrats. That's because the Dems know that their party will drift to the center unless the citizens keep pushing it.

We need the same thing, but pushing to the right, to conservatism instead. Knocking Specter out of the party was a big step forwards, but not enough. The Republican politicians need to politically fear us more than the left wing. They'll take us for granted if we let them.

More conservatives
need to start echoing these sentiments. Every Republican who bemoans the extreme right positions of McCain (GET REAL!!)and therefore defected to Obamba. McCain is the poster-child of MODERATE and was the FAVORITE Republican of the MSM UNTIL he became the nominee.

Republicans WIN and WIN big when they uphold the values of our Founding, the values outlined in the Declaration of Independence. These are the values that DEFINE an American. Anyone who hold these values despite the country of citizenship is an American. And anyone who forsake these values, despite country of citizenship is not.

We should not accept people who ARE NOT extremist in defending Liberty and Freedom and the rule-of-law. We should fight anyone not matter what color skin they have or what sex they are if they think feelings and empathy towards one group justifies the oppression of another, or overrules the rule-of-law.

Just Like Clockwork.........
.........as soon as a new controversy comes up, caused by Dear Leader of course,Soros and ACORN sends out some extra trolls.

There are several news ones today...but they all have the same tired talking points...straight from the horses' mouth,George Soros.

While many are debating the racist,Sotomayors' appointment ...Dear Leader is manipulating all the other socialistic manuverings that is tightening the trap doors on us. He is out there every day...making new pronouncements taking away rights from the citizens....and no one is stopping him.

Funny Thing About Republicans
Republicans will preach a sermon to anyone who will listen, about how we simply cannot try and appease our enemies about. And they will cite historical example after example to show how trying to appease your enemies simply will not work. And they are absolutely right about it.

But when it comes to their political enemies, the Democrats, their strategy is: appeasement. They try every which way they can to accomodate the Left, work with the Left, reach across the aisle...just about any and every way they can to try and get the Left to like them and work with them.

Confounding as hell.

Bait & switch
"Republicans will preach a sermon to anyone who will listen, about how we simply cannot try and appease our enemies about....
But when it comes to their political enemies, the Democrats, their strategy is: appeasement."

It's because of a bait and switch tactic by the Republican politicians. They talk like conservatives before the election, but act like Democrats after it.

They get away with it because there is no enforcement mechanism within the party. Lots of Republicans vote for the "lesser of two evils" election after election, even though the Republicans in Congress never do anything.

To bypass MSM?
Trools already have this system;

http://sweetness-light.com/archive/obamas-online-trolls-to- keep-at-it

Conservatives need to organize one also.
This would require thousands of volunteers to each mass relay e-mail bulletins.
The bulletins would be sent on an "as needed" basis rather than a regular schedule.
Only those in the area who need to be informed would receive the bulletin;
( unless there was some way others could help too.)

A general message to all members would begin with a mass mailing to State relay stations.
State relay stations would mass mail to districts within their State who would mass mail to subscribers.
Each relay station would also respond to the sender to confirm they are relaying.
If there is no conformation then an emergency relay station would substitute to maintain full coverage.

A bulletin could also originate at a State, County or City level to inform of local issues.

This is just a rough outline that would need refinement by the people involved to guard against misuse of power.

It would begin with an e-mail explaining the idea and the need for honest communication so people can make wise decisions.
It would ask responses for relay volunteers and suggestions on refining the system and people who just wanted to receive the bulletin.
It would ask people to pass the e-mail on like a chain letter so the first one reaches as far as possible.

NEED;
Ways to prevent commercialization and/or sale of political influence.

Special "Hot Button" issues would be formatted for printing and distribution.
Hot button issues like guns or abortion, etc., have advocates who feel strong enough on the subject to have OfficeMax or some local printer print out 100 copies for $5 so they can distribute them door to door or in front of markets.
Many people get more than $5 worth of p!ssed off over their hot button issue.

Hal
Inasmuch as I no longer follow any organized religion, I feel a little awkward defending the Mormons, and I invite a practicing Mormon to pick up this debate, if necessary.

You obviously know little about the Mormons, because, if you had ever picked up a Book of Mormon, you would note that the subtitle is "Another Testament of Jesus Christ." Further, the official name of the church is Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. You and the Catholics may not consider them Christians, but that is certainly what they consider themselves. I attended that church for about 45 years and, paying more attention than Obama did to Rev. Wright, do not recall ever hearing anyone mention Allah, Buddha, Zeus or any other supposed deity as the object of their worship. Moreover, I certainly never heard anyone in a Mormon church say anything even remotely resembling Rev. Wright's now infamous epithet. Do a little more research on this topic, before you pop off again.

One thing I do know is that I will not peacefully be "converted" to Islam (or any other religion, for that matter), and I will not peacefully be subjected to Sharia. As an
American, that is my right.

REPUBLICANS
Republicans should not concern themselves with offending "moderates". Most "moderates" would never vote Republican if the Republican candidate runs a "me too" type of campaign. McCain lost because too many conservatives regarded McCain as a RINO, who provided very little difference from what the Democrats were advocating. Republicans should present the voters with a choice, not an echo. This requires accepting the fact that one cannot appease a liberal, nor attract votes from the traditional hard corps Democrat special interest groups. Go after those who have reason, patriotism, and common sense. Force gun control to be an issue. Force economic responsibility to be an issue. Place the blame for the impending Social Security collapse where it belongs: on liberal Democrats who started raiding the trust fund to buy votes through Great Society type programs. Blame the Democrats for the current economic depression because it was their over-regulation that prevented businesses from making sound business decisions and to make decisions based on political correctness.

I have picked up the Book of Mormon but that was all. I knew the title. What I know was taught to me long ago during inflight emergencies; I think it was George's way of relieving tension seemed to work for both of us LOL. He did say that I was the first true heathen that he ever met. I am not certain how to take that LOL.

"... You and the Catholics may not consider them Christians, but that is certainly what they consider themselves..."

If they do then that works for me. But I was indeed concerned usually a new book means a new religion

Was not meant as an attack at all and sorry if it seemed that way. But I did think if he was going into scripture he should have revealed that...

When we have taken steps that have violated the Geneva Conventions we rightly have been criticized, so as we move forward I think it's important to again live our values, to live the agreements that we have made in the international justice arena and to practice those.

Good article David
McCain is a great example of Democrat lite and look where that got us. Because he was the less of two evils, I regretfully voted for him instead of a good conservative that had no chance of winning. I am tired and done with voting like that. I must stick to my principles as well, and if my true conservative does not get into office...so be it. I need to do the right thing and trust God is in control. If this is the end of our country as God has allowed it, I don't want to have anything to do with its demise.

Lot's of good discussion going on...

http://www.the912project.com/

A New Season
Raised a democrat in a county of 35,000 residents with only 8 registered republicans. When I first voted for a republican (Reagan), I feared that my grandfather would come back to haunt me. But my vote was for a conservative and not a republican. I have continued to vote that way in every election since, including this last one, though only because of Palin; otherwise, I would have stayed home. My point is that the time has passed for a conservative republican party and I wonder why there is a determination to continue a warfare which will not end even if by chance some conservative does emerge to give leadership. The moderate, blue-blood republicans will simply continue their internal struggle which will bring the party back to the sorry place in which it now finds itself. I noticed that one of the first things which Rush said on the day after the highly sucessful Tea Parties was that this should not lead to a third party movement. I was thunder-struck. As much as I admire the wisdom and work of Rush, he is dead wrong here. Now is the time when the wisest among us with conservative values out of both parties should be finding common ground, both intellectually and politically. They need to meet together and over time present a carefully thought out platform for the birth of a new politcal movement. Its outlook should be solidly to the right, conservative in every aspect, and carefully structured to begin to build a new approach to a party with emphasis on the grass roots, ground level work in the states and localies. It should attract Americans from every area of our nation concerned with the preservation of not just our nation but the rapidly disintergrating culture. I simply hope it is not too late! Wake up to realize that we have not just elected a new president with views which we can not abide. We have entered a new season, and that calls for a fresh, innovative and visionary response.

What if a few million republicans
armed themselves with injector-dart guns loaded with thorzine and lithium and went one day and took over the Constitution Party?

Sadly so true!
I think that some Republicans have become so "washingtonized" that they are the ones who have lost touch with the realities outside the Beltway. The leaders of the Party have became chamelions letting the dominant Beltway political culture and a desire to please the MSM determine their political tint.

The GOP was on the wrong track with McCain who was a "moderate" Republican if there ever was one. Bush bent with just about every left wind that blew, save the war. These people never seem to learn.

I am close to being convinced that conservatives are going to have come up with a cohesive third party in which principles are their greatest priority. Then we will need the backbone to go with it. I believe that will have a better chance of "winning" than the amorphous blob that currently stands for very little of anything.

Some Republican Leaders
have left Conservatives in the dirt pile. Come 2010, many will repay the favor.

We should not be happy with a win, if it comes because our principles were surrendered and just because Democrats are such losers.

From now on, a "moderate" Republican will not receive my vote. Not a chance.

I am here about Petraeus and his yes, we did violate the Geneva Commission, What do you think the limbawls and Cheney think about that? The general is a conservative hero is he not?

Did Happy Hour start early for you, Hal? I have no idea what this post of yours means? Do you?
Are you losing what little awareness you had left? Poor thing.

Oops for Cons
From Gallup - "So far in May, Barack Obama has averaged 65% job approval. Since World War II, only three of the previous eight presidents elected to their first terms -- Dwight Eisenhower, John Kennedy, and Ronald Reagan -- have had a higher average approval rating in May of their first year. Obama's average exceeds those of the three most recent presidents -- George H.W. Bush, Bill Clinton, and George W. Bush."

And as the economy continues to turn, Cons will be left holding the bag once again.

Bill Clinton/Barack Obama -
What's the link between them, if any?

My thought is, I remember when Bill Clinton went through his impeachment trial and how he beat the wrap that he should not have gotten away with. If I remember right, I might be wrong on the number... it seems to me that there were 150 FBI files that he pulled on all that were going to vote for his impeachment. And guess what? Wasn't he found not-guilty? Attorney General who? Oh that's right, the "honest Eric Holder" He'll get to the bottom of it...hah!

So what's similar with Obama's administration? It seems to me that it is the same as the Clinton's - but 100 times worse. What do you think happened to all of the files?
My point is that both parties are corrupt to a point, the only answer that they know to Obama is "yes messiah!".
As far as the article goes, I believe he's right on point. And as stated previously - it is time for a 3rd party.
Sarah Palin - start your 3rd party. It's time they all head to jail. Yeeha!

Republicans Betrayed Principles
Americans were dismayed to see the Republicans rack up years of giant deficits while claiming to be the party of fiscal responsibility. No one likes a hypocrite and that is what Republicans became.

That said, their core conservative message can still attract voters, but they really need some charismatic leaders. Right now, the tone of Republican leaders and celebrities is, shall we say, mean, angry, and authoritarian. People like Limbaugh, Hannity, Tancredo, and Beck are a huge turnoff to the average American. If Republicans cannot strike a reasonable tone, they will not get elected.

Republicans have also changed from the merry fiscal warriars to the extremely pious Jesus party. The close proximity of religious christian zealots to goverment power is very frightening to most people.

Find the next Reagan and return the Republican party to what is was in 1980 and victory will be found.

RINOs

As long as the like of Powell, McCain, Collins, Graham, Snowe, et. al., are in the party leadership, conservatism hasn't a chance.

The Second protects the rest

The Constitution Party's Agenda
will completely shut down so many un-Constitutional DC bureaucracies. It will make DC a ghost town, but our Constitution would be 100% completely reinstated. The 100% un-Constitutional Federal Reserve system would be eliminated. America would be put back on the gold system. The UN would be driven out of town. NAFTA would be scrapped immediately, and the border would be sealed shut with National Guard troops deployed for emeregency duty. The American manufacturing base would be restored, and a VAT would apply to all foreign goods being sold in the US in addition to a VAT rebate for American goods being sold overseas to balance our trade deficit and protect American manufacturing interests. It would actually eliminate the Executive Branch's funding of Planned Parenthood (READ: Abortion Murder Clinics) - something Bush could've easily done but of course never actually did because Bush was NO CONSERVATIVE. The Constitution Party was, until recently, known as the American Taxpayers Party. The IRS, the Department of Education, and the Department of Energy, and possibly the redundant Department of Homeland Security would all be eliminated. Unlike proponents of the Fair Tax, we want to abolish the 16th Amendment altogether because Congress can still always raise the Fair Tax down the road just as they did the Income Tax which started out at 1% in 1913. So many of the worthless, un-Constitutional, and Socialist bureaucracies in DC would vanish overnight. That's what should have happened if the GOP were ever Conservative.

Rush & Hannity Are GOP First
Hypocrites 2nd. If these guys were Conservative, they would have had Ron Paul or Chuck Baldwin or Bob Barr on their shows. Hannity brought on MCSHAMNESTY!!! of all Socialists on his show after cutting him to shreds repeatedly before he ever was the GOP nominee. WHAT A TWO-FACED HYPOCRITE! The man has no principles whatsoever! Rush just decided for the Presidential election, "Well, we need to sit this one out!" That's a cop-out when you have perfectly fine Conservatives running in other parties. Rush recently got an unexpected phone call from George I, George II, and Jeb Bush on the occasion of his 20th aniversary on the radio, and he practically worshipped the men going all ga-ga. If he were a Conservative, he never should have taken the call!!! Both of these guys are endless warmongerers, too, like their beloved GOP. The excuse that "they'll attack us over here if we don't get them over there" is LAUGHABLE and INANE NONSENSE for justification of UNCONSTITUTIONAL nation-building and meaningless guerrilla warfare! Where does it say in our Constitution that we are to remain in foreign countries and engage in nation building and soldiering and policing foreign countries, especially when those said countrymen are perfectly capale of policing their own populations??? IT'S NOT THERE! These guys, like so many in the GOP, wrongheadedly equate American exceptionalism with militarism and American patriotism with militarism and Empire. The LAST thing on Earth our Founding Fathers wanted was to establish an American Empire with the US Constitution. By continuing to support the GOP - right or wrong - as they do, Rush and Sean have demonstrated emphatically that they are just GOP party hacks. In other words, they're HYPOCRITES! Listen to Glenn Beck or Michael Savage; these two are waking up gradually to the URGENT NEED fo an Honest-to-God, Constitutionally Conservative-to-the-bone 3rd Party that not only talks the talk but walks the walk.

Hannity & Rush
are DRUNK on the GOP Kool-Aid. They'll be on the ship of fools when the ship sinks, too. I think it's heading for Niagara Falls. It is sickening to hear Hannity and Rush go into obeisance mode whenever anybody in the military or related to the military calls their show. These guys just love perpetual war and nation-building - 24/7/365 -that is killing these guys needlessly for UNCONSTITUTIONAL reasons - endless nation building. Then, Hannity has the audacity to have "Freedom Concerts" to garner GOP support for this UNCONSTITUIONAL continued incessant deployment of our troops that is now leading to suicides. It's sick, and it's morally repugnant!

GOP Is Conservatism's Biggest Roadblock
Marketing 101. Whenever you have very few competing products, two for example, the weaker product inevitably becomes identical to the stronger. Beer, razor blades, laundry soap, political parties. In our two-party system, the weaker party has become identical to the stronger. The GOP is a sham party. It is run by the same elitists who control the Democrat party. The GOP exists to keep the Democrat party from having any real competition. Of course the GOP has no principles - that's the point. Smaller government? Lower taxes? Even in states "run" by the GOP, tax rates and government interference in daily life is only marginally distinguishable from straight-up communist states like California. Wake up, conservatives. The GOP is not your friend. Which GOP Presidents put the following lib-nazi judges on the bench: Sonia Sodomy? Sandra Day O'ScrewWhitey? Anthony Kennedy? David Souter? Earl Warren? Get it? America's two-party system is illegitimate. The government it has produced is illegitimate. Ask the growing majority of Americans who understand that it is pointless to participate in sham voting.

Excellent points, David!! Thank You!!
I hope that you send your comment to each and every Republican Senator! Very well said, indeed!!

Show em who's boss
With no decent presidential candidates since Reagan, it's time to mount a major revolt. A little complaining will get nowhere as long as we put up with the likes of Specter and Stevens. Switch to Constitutution Party or vote Independents, either way, throw the bums out. I am absolutely sick to my stomach of this party and it's unwillingness to take off the gloves.

It does not matter which denomination you come from Joel. Yet, this is a political forum

The very fact that it matters to some that have challenged you tells me that you have made it an issue by posting it.
If you wish to proseletyze then expect comments.
This belongs in another forum.
Why do you mention this at all????

It's all about Power & $$
The reason so many Republicans (not all mind you but many) are so willing to abandon even basic conservative principles and sell out to the left is due to an addiction to power and a love of money. As long as they retain their power and their "nest is feathered" the don't care about what the future holds for the rest of America. The answer is pretty simple - fire them and hire those that are true to their own beliefs.

for Rich not Wealthy
"We need to be angry, Congress needs to know we are angry."

In 2004, observing the meltdown of Howard Dean, Rush Limbaugh observed: "Anger doesn't win elections."

That applies to us, as well.

The Angry Left turned off most ordinary average Americans.

And so will the Angry Right.

Lose your anger.
Project a positive, sunny, upbeat, optimistic vision of America's future. (Like if America took your advice, explain what a wonderful country it would become in 10 years or so.)

for Joel
Joel says: "Is it bad for America to be an Empire? I say that it is not bad at all. We just need to admit it, and act like it. ....I am referring to the expansion of our power and influence around the world."

You can't seriously claim that "American Empire" is consistent with traditional conservative principles???

You sound a lot more like Woodrow Wilson or FDR than like Taft.

American conservatives traditionally believed in *avoiding* foreign entanglements.

But you see, this is what happened when the Religious Right and the neo-conservatives (who used to be messianic liberals before they became messianic conservatives) totally trashed Reagan's "Peace Through Strength" policy into an "Aggressive Forward" military policy.

RINOs won't leave unless FORCED out

Great column, Mr. Limbaugh. Right on the Money.

David Limbaugh writes: "...the Republican branch of the political correctness sect insists that we must not oppose Judge Sonia Sotomayor's nomination for the Supreme Court..."

The "political correctness sect", certainly including people who attack conservatives like Colin Powell, are NOT Republicans, and pretending they are won't make it so.

They won't be changing *their* views, but they demand that you to change yours.

Okay then, let's change. We could have just let them walk away peacefully. We can "change" by taking "affirmative action" and helping them out the door.

If we don't publically repudiate the feckless political hacks that have destroyed the GOP from within, then it's time to abandon the GOP and form a conservative party.

It would be a lot more fun to "clean house", kick out the squatters and take the GOP back.

And there is no time like the present.

nationalism vs. federalism 1
James Madison came into the federal convention with a plan for a national government,..HE WAS DEFEATED. So if anyone should know what the form of our government is to be, he would have a pretty good idea. So I give the following from federalist 39...

That it will be a federal and not a national act, as these terms are understood by the objectors; the act of the people, as forming so many independent States, not as forming one aggregate nation, is obvious from this single consideration, that it is to result neither from the decision of a MAJORITY of the people of the Union, nor from that of a MAJORITY of the States. It must result from the UNANIMOUS assent of the several States that are parties to it, differing no otherwise from their ordinary assent than in its being expressed, not by the legislative authority, but by that of the people themselves. Were the people regarded in this transaction as forming one nation, the will of the majority of the whole people of the United States would bind the minority, in the same manner as the majority in each State must bind the minority; and the will of the majority must be determined either by a comparison of the individual votes, or by considering the will of the majority of the States as evidence of the will of a majority of the people of the United States. Neither of these rules have been adopted. Each State, in ratifying the Constitution, is considered as a sovereign body, independent of all others, and only to be bound by its own voluntary act. In this relation, then, the new Constitution will, if established, be a FEDERAL, and not a NATIONAL constitution.

nationalism vs. federalism 2
The concern at the time of the federal convention was along the lines of "Hey we have independence, but how to make sure we gain from this?" There was the realization that the states needed to stick together to be strong enough to fight off other nations, and there was excessive taxing on trade among the states. So what did they do? They fromed a collective, representative government for common defense, treating with other nations, and powers such as building post roads and offices and regulating commerce(interstae trade) that would promote the general welfare of all the states with greater freedom of intercourse among them.
There was no provision for legislating for the individual. Why would there be as then the people of one state would then be subject to the governance of those outside their state? The states each were unique in their identity, such as Mass. and Conn. with their established religions, MD was highly catholic. How could others understand their unique needs and desires.
Federalism was decided upon as that which would benefit the states in regards to their external affairs and through freer trade. Further, many states had entirely adapted the D of I into their state constitutions, and others ahd language essentially saying the same; inalienable rights, and government formed to protect life liberty and property/fruit of labor.

nationalism vs. federalism 3
So what should we be hearing from the whigs(GOP)? We need to hear not, how they are going to violate our rights to life, liberty and property/fruit of labor less than the other folks, but rather how hard they will fight to oppose the ongoing illegal actions of those in power. How they will abide by the imposed constraints of the US constitution and no longer violate the rule of law by ignoring the clearly limited delegation of powers.
How they understand that besides being illegal, when congress takes more responsibility upon itself, it only increases those areas it will act poorly in. This is only natural as increasing oversight without increasing the ability of those who govern to be knowledgable and wise in those areas, will always increase the chaos factor.
So until we start hearing this from the whigs, they themselves need to be opposed.

A Strong Defense
The Constitution, of course, supports a strong defense, and so does the Constitution Party. We thoroughly support our US military and the defense of America. The Constitution was, in part, established "to provide for the common defense" of the American People. Since when has the GOP defended the porous American borders??? Instead, the Neocons in the GOP (and even the Democratic Party)have perpetuated this lie that we are "defending freedom" by engaging the enemy in an endless guerrilla warfare, doing the work of the native nation's soldiers. The only reason we are in Iraq and Afghanistan is to keep a watch on Iran and hope we can kill as many terrorists as possible. That's it - pure and simple. The GOP and all of the criminals in DC know there are terrorist cells in America right now with nuclear bombs waiting for the signal to let 'em rip. These terrorist cells are well hidden and were established by the reckless un-Constitutional policies of these two criminal parties doing the bidding of their Wall Street financiers. These cells are mostly operated by Iran's Hezbollah, the Arab Muslim Brotherhood, Hamas(controlled by Syria and Iran) and al Qaeda. Knowing they thoroughly screwed up with the borders and America will inevitably be attacked again worse than 911, they have hedged their bets that they can keep Iran in check with a military presence in Iran's backyard and attract as many Iranian, al Qaeda, Muslim Brotherhood, Hamas and Hezbollah terrorists to the Iraqi neighborhood by using American troops as bait and martyrs. Many in these terrorist cells are assimilated in the US population - even married with children & posing as "infidel" Christians. Some might even be in the US military for all we know! THEY KNOW THIS, & THEY KNOW THEY BLEEPED UP BAD!

Cont'd...
To believe the Iranians will flinch is folly. To believe they can kill all the terrorists and terrorist masters overseas is folly and a fool's errand. To believe they can somehow thwart the impending attack on our homeland by being overseas is illogical deduction, the sort of prevarication we would expect from the likes of Bill Clinton. It is only a matter of time before we are hit with a violent terrorist attack. They will catch us at our weakest moment off guard. In preparation, politically, we need to insure for OUR OWN SURVIVAL that neither one of these un-Constitutional criminal parties is in power when or after the bombs sack us hard.

Instead of doing the politically incorrect thing and expunging the nation of all Arabs, Indonesians, Iranians, Afghanis, Muslims, Moroccans, Malaysians, Indians, Sudanese, Somalis, and Pakistanis (all Muslims) which they should have done after 911, the two politically correct parties in DC will have an ecumenical Kumbaya prayer session and vigils ad nauseum and just find another fight to pick with an elusive terrorist enemy overseas to assuage our anger and calm our fears; leave the borders wide-bleep open for yet another attack to please their corporate masters on Wall Street who like the cheap labor; and establish another Department of NO SECURITY for political cover.

Cont'd...
Any military operation knows it cannot be successful without securing the border and securing taken enemy ground. Did Patton leave the taken ground undefended in WWII??? OF COURSE NOT! That sort of makes me wonder why Fallujah was taken then no longer defended and had to be retaken with a fierce fight a SECOND time. In addition, they never secured the Iraqi borders for quite sometime. It's obvious to me, a former military man, that the whole intent was to allow the terrorists to come and get us. This is reprehensible! There is no wonder our boys are contemplating suicide over there with endless missions.

Limbaugh and the Lemmings
Mr. Limbaugh says, "I see ''pragmatists' everywhere I look in the Republican Party -- those who say we must always be more concerned with not offending so-called moderates than with advancing our principles."

Or could it be that at least some of those "pragmatists" don't accept the idea that Republican principles should include doctrinaire stances that can't stand scientific scrutiny, are not as black-and-white as Limbaugh suggests, or simply don't meet 21st century realities?

Take Limbaugh's dismissal of climate change, for example. I suggest that he walk into the earth sciences department of any major university in the world and express his point of view. He'll get the same bemused look that people get who claim to be receiving radio signals from their dental fillings.

Or take Limbaugh's assertion that support of nuclear power is a "no brainer"---when in fact its safety and its long-term economic viability when compared to more benign alternatives that can be put on line much faster has been a subject of lively controversy among expert observers for a generation.

Or take Limbaugh's assumption that America has the best health care system in the world---when even thoughtful people on the right recognize that it is significantly broken and needs SOME form of repair.

I applaud the "pragmatists" who are at least thinking outside the kind of reality-challenged box that Mr. Limbaugh and his ilk have
placed themselves in

Thanks David
for a well written article. However I'm not sure if there are 60% of voters left in the US who do not have their hands out wanting to be fed by the producers. And if the margin is close then 0bama's ACORN will certainly make up for the difference.

I believe the best strategy is at the state level where we can win as conservatives and eventually cut off funds to starve the beast that the Federal Gov't has become.

Well, johninoregon
Its nice to see you're a regular koolaid drinker of the "debate is over" crowd. Outside the box? What a hoot. I'm sure these brain whizzes in college with today's indoctrination would be a meaningful test of realities. I mean come on, algore flying around in private jets and running his mansions on outrageous usage of electricity along with all the dims and celebs pushing this nonsense. And what does he do? Buys credits. Give me a break.

These losers have you duped and you have the nerve to come after conservatives. At least we have enough sense to know they're getting rich of the green boondoggle while the rest of the world loads up on oil, coal and nuclear.

What? You think you're only gonna breathe American air? What a doofass?

GOP & the Bush Bailouts
I just purchased a book that was endorsed by Ron Paul. It is titled "Meltdown". It is written by Thomas E. Woods Jr., a senior fellow at the Ludwig von Mises Institute in Auburn, Alabama. It is an indictment of the Fed and the Wall Street financiers who bought off the Dems and the GOP who suported Bush's bailout. I am about to show you just how the GOP and the DEMS, the two criminal parties in DC performed their duty as Corporate whores for Wall Street. The following information can be found on page 5 of this book:

"When in September 2008 the House of Representatives entertained a $700 billion bailout package - soone to be renamed the "rescue plan" by the Bush administration and its media accomplices - for the financial sector, the public response was swift and clear. Democratic Senator Barbara Boxer of California reported receiving nearly 17,000 e-mail messages on the subject, nearly all of them negative. Of more than 2,000 calls to her California office(on a single day), only 40 callers supported it - that's 2 percent. Out of 918 callers to her Washington office, exactly one was in favor. Other members of Congress reported similar reactions. Ohio Senator Sherrod Brown reported that 95 percent of constituent communications on the subject were from bailout opponents.

What could make a representative disregard so intense an expression outrage on the part of his constituents? Take a wild guess. The securities and investment industry (READ:WALL STREET), according to the Center for Responsive Politics, contributed $53 million to congressional and presidential candidates in the 2008 (election)cycle, placing them second behind lawyers. Congressmen who voted in favor ofthe bailout when it appeared before the House on September 29 had received 54 percent more money in campaign contributions from banks and securities firms than had those who voted against it."

The GOP Betrayed the American People
IN OTHER WORDS, THESE WHORES ACCEPTED BRIBE MONEY FROM WALL STREET TO BANKROLL THEIR CAMPAIGNS IN EXCHANGE FOR BETRAYING THE WILL OF THE AMERICAN PEOPLE. THIS IS GOVERNMENT OF, BY, AND FOR WALLSTREET - NOT THE AMERICAN PEOPLE. Everything I have been telling you people about these Corporate Wall Street whores is there in black and white for all of you to see. You can choose to believe the truth or act like Democrats just like your beloved criminal GOP and continue to live in denial of the TRUTH.

GOP & Dems Accepted $53 Million
in Treasonous, Criminal bribe money to get re-elected and betray the overwhelming will of the American People in exchange for keeping their Wall Street financiers fattened with the American taxpayers money. THIS IS REPREHENSIBLE. To continue to back this party of TRAITORS is reprehensible. This is not a Conservative party; it is a CRIMINAL party just like the Dems. A new political paradigm can only come about with sea change in DC - with the establishment of new 3rd parties like the Constitution Party and the Libertarian Party. I hope 2010 and 2012 bring about political revolution in DC, the lieks of which we haven't seen since 1776.

Joel freom Cynthia
Then, I apologize!
It is my opinion that this lasdt election
was all about feminism, race and religion and this is why we are stuck with a radical socioalist.

I, although I disagree vehemently with your doctrine, voted for Mr. Romney and took some heat for doing so.

It is not important to me what a candidate believes in his religious convictions as long as they are true Americans and moral and will uphold the constitution of my dear country.

As long as the canddate does not bring their personal convictions into the White House I have no problem.
This was what Mr. McCain did when he said he would not water board one terrorist to save thousands of Americans.

And, thanks to Mr. Huckabee and his dirty tactics towards Mr. Romney we now have an ever growing Marxist society.

So, since you were asked what religious affiliation you were without any praeching on your part just goes to prove my point.

Do you love America? Do you believe in morality?
This is good enough for me!
Our theological differences will be sorted out in a different place.

Again, I apologize.
God Bless America always

Dragging us to the Left

In case no one has noticed, this country has been moving more and more to the Left since John Kennedy. Whenever the Republicans concede to the Democrats, or try to be Democrat Lite as you say, we allow the country to move more to the Left... and eventual destruction. If not destruction, it will be a country that will not be familiar to most of us today!
